Strong and short
This late 50s rock isn't usually my thing, but the Everly brothers bring something different. Love Hurts is a great track
This album is white bread. Nothing special, but solid. You can bring it to the beach for lunch and you'll have no complaints. Don't feed white bread or this album to ducks, choose oats instead.
Really liked the surf rock song to start it off that was pretty unexpected. Album turns into pretty standard 60s rock love songs and whatnot with some cool guitar splashed in every so often. Was not expecting to know any songs on this album but Love Hurts which has been covered a bunch I believe. Nice to hear the original. Pretty standard enjoyable album
Ah old people music. Nothing spectacular about this one. Didn't realize Love Hurts was a cover so that's cool. Pretty vanilla but has some pretty parts. This is a 2.5 for me but I'll round up because it's Friday but don't think I don't think you're old and white as hell, Everly Brothers.
This was the first album so far that I had never heard. I had known of the Everly Brothers but never have knowingly listened to them before. Definitely old school. The kind of 12 bar blues thing with the turn arounds are fun. Their harmonies are great. I can see why they were popular back in that era. I don't know if this is a popular record of theirs, but it's a solid one.
A record from a simpler time. Or a harder time when pleasures and ambitions were simpler. Early rock 'n' roll that is very sweet with lovely harmonies. Rating: 3.5/5 Playlist track: Always it's You Date listened: 14/10/23
I’m trying to figure out why “Stick With Me Baby” is so very, very familiar! That was a highlight. Overall - pleasant album.
One of those groups that captures the best of their era and genre. This album is a fun listen; not top-to-bottom amazing but listenable all the way through with some classics. Some good discoveries here too: "Cathy's Clown" is the biggest hit, and I confess I wasn't familiar before. Also I'd only ever heard the Nazareth version of "Love Hurts". The original is great!
The lyrics may be dated, but I still enjoy the sound.
Easy listening, but a bit soporific for me. Uncomplicated lyrics and nice bops.
3,5
Ah, the pop music of the late 50's/early 60's. There's something fascinating about pre-Beatles music, it's almost like some kind of naïveté got lost when the Fab Four came around. It sounds old, charming and upbeat. Not something I'll often go back to, but I certainly won't mind whenever I hear it.
The Everly Brothers are cool, a few hits here and there, nice vocals... but they are so harmless at the same time. It doesn't push anything forward. I think a 3 is a fair rating.
The Everly Brothers are a 50's - 60's pop group, similar to Elvis Presley or Buddy Holly. A lot of their content deals with how lovely girls are, and being in love. It absolutely feels of its time in that respect, but it is fantastic music all the same. The Everly Brothers were one of the first "rock 'n' roll" groups, and were there at the formation of the genre. Their harmonies added something to an already popular style of music, and allowed their music to stand out from the rest. I'm sure younger kids are wondering why these two are huddled around a box with a phone in it on the cover of the album. Overall, a great record. Nothing I would rush out and buy or listen to, but this late 50's - early 60's rock 'n' roll isn't really in my wheelhouse of favourite genres. That being said, I'm not disappointed about having to listen to it today either. It is perfectly average. Favourite songs: Lucille, Made For Love, Love Hurts, So How Come (No One Loves Me), "Donna, Donna" Least favourite songs: That's Just Too Much, "Sigh, Cry, Almost Die" 3/5
Rating: 6/10 Best songs: Made to love
2.5 kinda fruity if we’re being honest
Rock viejuno.
Poodle skirt heaven. Absolutely delightful. If by delightful I mean cringeworthy. But it is bouncy, fun, and sounds great. None of the songs hang around too long, belaboring their point (such as it is).
Bit samey really. Thing of it's time.
Super short. Barely had time to think about it.
A fun time for sure
Simpele rock uit simpeler tijden. Het klinkt nu in ieder geval enorm gezapig en braaf. Vervelend is anders. De nummers zijn wel allemaal onderling inwisselbaar.
This was a nice easy album to listen to. It’s pop music with harmony vocals and a little rock and roll/surf rock influence. You can clearly see this kind of music influencing early Beatles albums. The choruses are catchy but simple, as is the instrumentation and lyrics. There’s not much wrong for an album of this style, there’s just not that much more to it.
The HAIR!
1960 - Rock & Roll
3.5 I actually enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. Was really expecting this to be bubblegummy, sappy oldies stuff, and a lot of it is, but it’s able to do so in a fun way, the kind that makes you want to do the twist with that girl you’re going steady with and then get a milkshake after at Pop’s. The opening track Made to Love in particular was so incredibly catchy and had a lot more in common with surf rock than I expected. Yeah, maybe it’s a touch dated, but I really don’t feel like it’s objectionable in any way - just a cute, fun song, though to all my homo homies out there, I see you and think you’re made to love too. It really doesn’t get any worse from there though - it has stronger and weaker moments for sure (Love Hurts, Lucille, and Cathy’s Clown were the highlights for me), but nothing that’s unenjoyable. As a whole, it really is the kind of album that makes you want to go back to the era… before you remember that times were crazy problematic back then. Oh well, I’ll stick to Johnny Rockets. Final thoughts - between the album title, lyrics, and cover art, these guys had to be like the One Direction or Jonas Brothers of 1960, right? Like, I have no idea if trapper keepers or even stickers for that matter existed back then, but if they did, your grandma’s was probably covered with ones of the Everly Brothers.
Very clean, poppy and polished. Easy to listen to and definitely an effort to catchy melodic candy tunes. I really didn't know that Love Hurts was here... crazy after growing up on the Nazareth version.
Nothing great, nothing offensive. Just so so
Good classic 50’s music. Made for Love sounds pretty cringey and out of touch, but it was solid 50’s pop.
Pleasant but dated. Best track: Love Hurts
Ok album
Þetta er dálítið kósí, ömmufílingur, einfalt.
Short but sweet album, entertaining although the lyrical content hasn't aged too well
This brand of sixties teen bopper love songs have a tendency to be rather creepy. Couldn’t help but rate each song - “phew! this was not as stalkerish, incel and misogynistic as the previous one… no wait….oh dear” Love the guitar sound and love that it’s short and it’s pleasant until you listen too closely. But not a keeper. It’s a creep in’
Eh, rock & roll so mild it's functionally easy listening. Very much of its time. I wouldn't seek this out but would probably enjoy its ironic usage in a Lynchian context. Fave track - "Love Hurts" is the famous one, right? Yeah, that one...
Didn’t know Love Hurts was originated by the Everly Brothers. This is simple, nice harmonies. Standard sound for the time. Nothing bad, nothing great.
Nice
I have this album on vinyl in my attempt to listen to more Everly's album tracks instead of only the "Best Of" or "Greatest Hits" compilations. Apart from Cathy's Clown and Love Hurts, the rest of the songs are fine, but the quality is inconsistent. Short, but overall very listenable and enjoyable.
The lyrics are really outdated at points but the songs are still pretty good and it’s short enough for me to actually put my attention to it. Still though my likelihood of re-visiting it isn’t high and I don’t really want a date with the everly brothers (and I definitely don’t want one with their corpses). 3/5
Det är så oförargligt på något sätt.
Yeah this was alright! Quite pleasant. Lots of love songs ennit about them moaning about being messed around. Do they ever sing about them being dicks? Bet they're not squeaky clean. There was the one about the weird bloke I suppose. But overall pleasant music!
Not my style at all
Fun doo wop/pop record, innocent but ultimately average and samey
7/10 I really like that!
Cute little collection of songs - Cathy’s Clown in a banger.
Just not my vibe
3.5
A bit dated bit actual still good.
2.5 stars. classic 60's music. Similar to beach boys, but "sounds like everything else"
Ei ollenkaan ärsyttävä, genreen nähden sopivan lyhyt. Toimi!
I have trouble rating albums this dated. I can definitely appreciate how interesting this must have sounded back in the day, McCartney and Lennon were known to be the British copy cats of The Everly Brothers in the early days. But I still can't really identify with this music. It sounds more like a curosity, a testament of an era rather than something to enjoy on daily basis. When I think of that I start to worry like what if my favourite music will sound like that to my kids? Or was there a point at which they managed to make music that is timeless and will remain enjoyable for the generations to come? If so, this kind of oldie makes really appreciate the geniuses of Paul McCartney or Brian Wilson. I'm giving it a neutral 3/5
Ah yes the good ole 60’s, back when women were treated as objects. In all seriousness though I do enjoy this era a ton, but their voices had a bit too much twang for me. Twang probably isn’t the right word but you get what I mean. It was just pleasant, and I was in a good mood listening to all the songs. Bonus points for being such a short album, gave me ample time to relisten. Not quite good enough to be considered as a four sadly.
Sigh, Cry, Almost Die
It's disposable pop. I spent a lot of time listening to the Everly Brother on my walkman back in the early 1990s and I have to say that these are not the best songs to illustrate them. They harmonise well, and they're mostly inoffensive, but far more interesting things were happening in music, driven by people who were not as straight and white as the Everly Brothers. What the Everly Brothers did was to decant some of this work into a nice white boy package, to make it easier to sell. It's a shame that we don't have more recognition in this list for the now sadly mostly forgotten inspirations.
one of the early albums from these guys. Although it lacked the hits they are famous for it certainly demonstrates the harmony these guys have.
LUCILLE sounds just like pretty woman !!! I really like Cathy’s Clown because of the unique sound. Everything else sounds like something else, but they did it first so I guess it was unique at the time! I don’t listen to Simon and Garfunkel that much so idk their inspo from this, but I do hear what the Beatles have taken from it.
Bubblegum pop at its finest. Great harmonies and pretty good (or catchy) guitar playing. Not sure which playing is the Everlys' and which is session musicians. Maybe I would rate this higher if I understood where the Everly Brothers stood in the whole pop and folk rock progression. I guess they came before the 60's explosion so maybe this is here because they were major influencers. But tight harmonies aside, I don't see what's so special about this album or why it and not, say their debut, is on this list.
Cathy's Clown is the only song I recognize. This was a fine listen. 3 stars.
Quelques paroles pour le moins problématiques
cheesey, but OK
Okay
This is a fine Everly Brothers album. A few great songs, a bunch of good songs and some filler. Not sure why this one gets on the list.
The harmonies are superb by otherwise I think this is just ok
My least favorite of the early rock and roll records we’ve heard so far. It was fine, but nothing spectacular about it.
Fun listen. Hard to judge something so old. It starts to go pretty far back on the chain of influences for artists.
Les chansons ont défilé comme une belle petite brise caressante.
Old
Kind of typical 60s subject matter, all about love and heartbreak, dated lyrics especially in the opening song. If you ignore that there's some nice sounds there. Their singing voices are really good and complementary though, which I can definitely appreciate. Saved tracks: Baby What You Want Me To Do, Love Hurts, Cathy's Clown
Je pensais que c'était l'album que j'avais, mais non! Très old school, pas mauvais mais redondant un peu. Love Hurts de Nazareth est meilleure!
No lo terminé todavía
first song had weird ass lyrics but it was cute ig
HL: “Cathy’s Clown”, “Made to Love”, “Sigh, Cry, Almost Die” RIP Everlys “A Date” definitely deserves to be on this list, also suffers from the syndrome of inspiring other songwriters I love more. Sort of like Little Richard, though this album’s sanitized cover of “Lucille” does the original no favours. September 29, 2022
If these two boys are calling you from a pay phone, hang up and call the police
p52. 1960. 3.5 stars THE sound of pre-Beatles white teenage America. In their heyday, the Everlys hit the sweet spot - cute AF for the girls, and cool enough to appeal to the guys. However - there's a lot of filler, and some of the sentiments in the songs are so sweet that they strip enamel from your teeth, but those harmonies can save even the most dire pop song. When they get a great song - and there are some great ones here - it's fabulous. There is just too much filler and saccharine to rate it more than 3 stars.
Decent but short
mid
The way they describe love in the lyrics is so down-to-earth and lacks any expressive details.
They are a legendary duo from a time in music that long since evolved and changed. The lyrics are a bit outdated but the songs themselves are beautiful.
Get out the Brylcreem, grab yourself a cheeseburger and get on down to the drive-in. This album conjures up images of pure rockabilly.
decent instruments, repetitive lyrics, songs just trail off and don't properly end.
an ok album, not my cup of tea and nothing special in it for me Fav track: Love hurts Least fav: Cathy's clown
7/22/2022 - ALBUM #176 Today's Album: "A Date with The Everly Brothers" by The Everly Brothers - This album kicks off with some absolute HEAT. It might be fairly dated in its base idea, but the first track, Made to Love, is a beautifully warm and joyful production of jangly keys, plucky guitar strums, and some sturdy surf-rock grooves. The next track That’s Just Too Much serves as a hypntoizingly sweet and slow country ballad and continues to show off the warmth of the mix. I find the songwriting to be very comfortable without falling into a really boring sound. Yes, it reeks of the early 60s, but it does so as more of an ambassador of the sound of that time and less like a contemporary. If there was an artist I could best compare them to, it would be the early work of the Beatles; very basic and fundamental songwriting that is performed with expert finesse and consistency. Obviously, this album just barely scratches the level of brilliance that the Beatles were on, but there is still a life and energy in this album that justifies it’s enjoyment in the 21st century. Overall, I would say this album is about as mainstream pop as you can get for the 1960s, but I think it stands as an important piece of music history and holds some really good tunes throughout. Give this one a listen if you like the early Beatles or Beach Boys. Highlights: Made to Love, That’s Just Too Much, Love Hurts, Cathy’s Clown Score: 7.25/10 A classic in one sense of the word ;) An early 60s gem
super old school American Graffiti diner nostalgia. Kind of a one-trick pony album, but there's still some catchy stuff here
Here's what I imagine a dating profile for the everly brothers would look like: We are: Two caucasian, gentle brothers who sing about love and girls. You are: A teen girl. Any teen girl, really. Our label says you're our core demographic so you'll probably like our songs, right? We like: Long walks on the beach, serenading pretty girls, and self-pity. We are incredibly lonely and sad. Please date us. Our talents: We can harmonize incredibly well. Despite this, our songs are shallow and we use our harmonizing talents exclusively to sell records to girls like you. Come see us live too! Where we see ourselves in ten years: We'll have a pretty good country-rock album, but we ultimately have solo ambitions. Phil (the younger brother) will smash his guitar during a live performance and walk off, thus cementing our solo split. More notable than our solo efforts, however, will be our impact on pop music, influencing the likes of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and Simon & Garfunkel. That's gotta count for something, right?
Easy listening but starting to feel pretty dated
-I mean, it just sounds like an album from the 50's basically -It's nice, but just not interesting -The first version of "Love Hurts" is on there -"Lucille" has a pretty cool riff -Other than those tracks it seems pretty generic
10/10 album cover - också svängigt som faen!
The Everly Brothers are among my favorite traditional pop bands of the 50s and early 60s. From the romantic guitar to the longing harmonized vocals, these songs are suited for both casual listening and dancing with a loved one. It's an easy listen, less than a half-hour long, and a mix of fast dance hits, slow romance, and even some blues. Lyrics are abysmal: the Everlys and Bryants can't write for shit. But I do prefer the melodies of their original songs over the covers; they put significantly more effort into their own songs. "Cathy's Clown" is a classic I grew up listening to, great instrumental and chorus. "That's Too Much" sounds like an early Beatles song, but I can't remember which one. "Love Hurts" also has an early Beatles vibe. There aren't any tracks that sounded awful, but I guess I just like their style too much. Favorites: Sigh Cry Almost Die, Always Its You, Love Hurts, Cathy's Clown
Not their biggest hits here, but solid vocal harmonies and groovy rythm as always
Growing up in the 90s this stuff seemed ridiculously dated even then (weird that music hasn't comparatively changed anywhere near as much since), so it does sound ancient and kinda silly in that "She's my girl and we're going steady" way. I can't imagine that the world this album sells me ever really existed. That being said, I don't buy the "ugh this sounds so white" nonsense in so many reviews here. Do you dinguses also complain that Curtis Mayfield albums sound "ugh so black"? Course ya fuckin don't. You wouldn't dare. Get your heads out of your arses. Anyway, this really wasn't my thing but it was undeniably catchy. Those vocal harmonies were a bit sickly sweet but impeccably done and at 27min or whatever it's the perfect length for an album I've never heard before. 3/5.
Polite pre seismic 60s revolution songs
Very 1960s, some bops, and overall good music objectively, but I probably wouldn't really come back it again.
This was the most I've heard from the Everly Brothers. I enjoyed listening to the album. "Love Hurts", "So How Come (No One Loves Me)" and "Cathy's Clown" were the tracks that stood out the most for me. The Everly Brothers are talented, and the music is good. I do have a hard time with this early era Rock and Roll that is so focused on the teenage life. I don't want to listen to "Made to Love" again... so creepy.
Better than I had expected.
Beh, musica anni 60, molto orecchiabile, tipo beatles, ma americani e più melensi.
There wasn't a huge amount to this one, but it's good enough. Cathy's Clown is a banger. The harmonies are excellent, but this comes from that tweener era of rock where the genre doesn't feel full developed in a lot of ways 3/5
Easy listening. Not bad.
Everlys are great, I don't feel like this was their strongest album though
Musical. But cheesy as FUCK.
It's...fine. I guess. Actually it's a bit boring. It all kind of sounds the same too. It's not that bad though, just not super interesting. I do not expect that I will be going on a 2nd date.
I'm going to adjust this up by one because I think in a more normal headspace I'd enjoy it more, usually down for some rock 'n roll and this is a decent offering of that.
I used to love the Everly brothers when I was about 16. While there's a lot of nostalgia here for me, the album as a whole is just a bit too much of the same for me. Was gonna give it a 4 out of sheer nostalgia but I really don't think I vibe with it enough any more.
Generally enjoyed this. More than I thought I would. Pleasant collection of pop songs. Lots of nice instrumentation and excellent vocal harmonies throughout. Some real hits (e.g. Love Hurts, Cathy's Clown), and some horrible misses (their cover of Lucille is particularly weak), but overall pretty good. Also helped by clear, crisp production.
Vrolijk rock 'n roll plaatje. weinig tijdloos, maar aangename muziek
The story of the Everly Brothers is largely tied to their tremendous impact on their musical era and the proliferation of their style. While not as polished or innovative as the acts that would follow, it would be hard to envision the Beatles, Beach Boys, the Yardbirds and many more without this group's impact.
An observation. It seems like the best tracks on albums from late 50s/early 60s are covers of Little Richard songs.
nice little ditties
Not as bad as I was expecting! Didn’t know that was the original love hurts lol
Leuk ni echt mijn ding
Nice and simple 60s pop. They obviously influenced the Beatles.
It's...fine. I guess. Actually it's a bit boring. It all kind of sounds the same too. It's not that bad though, just not super interesting. I do not expect that I will be going on a 2nd date.
Thankfully short. Not an album for me but I can appreciate how it has been influential on others. Therefore, 3 neutral stars
Nice. Cutesy ballads. Very saccharine. Elliott Smith references “Cathy’s Clown” in one of his songs, which is cool. I wonder how many unhappy marriages resulted from this saccharine lovey propaganda in that era?
Doesn't get me hard, but it's certainly better than the black crowes
Historically important, check. Listenable, check. Enjoyable, check. Sought after, nil. Commercially viable in the late 50s / early 60s does not translate sixty years into the future. This is much more about recreating a time period similar to the HS dance scene in Back to the Future.
This is fine for what it is, the whited-down, I mean watered-down version of early rock and roll. I'd head to the hop and twist the night away listening to this.
I think this is quite a well put together album, with the vague theme of going on a dates with the Bros. The music is pleasant but wouldn't go out of my way to listen again
Classic Don & Phil, Classic 60's pop, we love 'em 61 years later. Cathy's Clown is a stand out here.
A short, fun, whimsical collection of songs
Can you imagine a date with the Everly Brothers? Would you choose Don or Phil or both?? I would pick whoever the lad is in the orange cardigan thing. The other one is too busy ringing dial-a-disc.
Pretty early rock n roll. Lovely harmonies. Bit dated now, though. Pleasant enough - 3 stars.
Fav songs: - Baby What You Want Me to Do - Love Hurts
Right over the plate early rock n roll
Fine early rock and roll. Influential to many, but forgettable listen.
3/5
Country, rock and roll. Suave y melódico. Un poco aburrido.
well, once again, i was not there then, but this feels to me like the squeaky-clean idea i have of the early 60s. it was fun, and definitely cool to see where nazareth got their one big hit from. always fun to find a new cover, especially when, like here, i didn't know it was a cover in the first place.
Loverly
are you going on a date with them both?? or is this some kind of trick hmmmm
Made to Love Baby what you want me to do Sigh, cry, almost die Love Hurts Lucille So how come (no one loves me)
This isn't an album I'm gonna go play on repeat or anything, but it was kinda catchy. I think I enjoyed it most just from a "history of music" perspective - it wasv especially interesting hearing the original versions of "Stick With Me Baby" and "Love Hurts"
it's alright. Old album.
3
Cheesy lyrics Good voice(s) 3.5/5
very nice album, sounds good
A bit dated, but still enjoyable for a listen. Just maybe not a repeat listen.
Largely inoffensive 50s pop with a few highlights. Love Hurts is great
3/5
This was ok. Kinda my parents’ 50s music snuck into the 60s.
Unique sound….liked
- cute - people stole from you, guys! - nicely boring
Didn't mind this album at all. Sucker for harmonies and this type of music usually has something going for it for me when done well which I think this is. Good album 3*
Uhhh sounded okay but the lyrics were a bit creepy. 5
"Sigh, cry, almost die I can't kiss you again" (Sigh, cry, almost die) Me gusta bastante este tipo de música, pero en cuanto te fijas un poco todo se vuelve mega creepy.
6/10. Alright, dated but not in a bad way, nothing exciting.
3.6 - A glimpse into America, fresh off McCarthy and towards the end of Jim Crow. Sanitized and sweet rock n roll. Wholesome and painfully white but brimming with a soulful innocence. The singing and vocal harmonies really set this off. It’s a pleasant listen that I could come back to again.
Perfectly fine - just old...
Rock viejuno.
Pretty boring, fine background music. 6
Ahhh, the 60's I was spoon fed this stuff all of my childhood. I enjoyed the listen but it didn't stand out to me in anyway. 3 of 5
Classic early 60s rock
I now see where The Cactus Blossoms got their sound from.
bom porém mt 60's, enjoa no final
Nice lil album
Very old timey rock 'n' roll. The biggest surprise was this tame version of Love Hurts which felt... weird but nice.
Lovely harmonies but the songs are too treacly for me.
I'm not as into oldies as I once was, but the Everly Brothers were definitely some of the best.
This reminds me of Dad, it's his era, I think he liked these guys. Because of that it's dripping in nostalgia and difficult to be objective about. It's a nice listen though, comforting, familiar, reassuring.
It probably is because I'm not familiair with genre but my overall feeling is that everything sounds nice but nothing stands out. Would need to come back later to judge again.
Vanilla
This is fine
Meh
It’s classic The Everly Brothers. Still enjoy it quite a bit.
Pleasant, sign of the times
Pre Listen: The album title is making me feel coerced. I never agreed to date even one of the Everly Brothers, much less two. I don't wanna get tag teamed by these guys oml. No expectations. Notable Tracks: Love Hurts - Favorite song on the album. Has the best harmonies on here, which is already this things strongest aspect. I may have heard this one before too? Post Listen: Album wasn't really anything good or bad. Didn't even have a least favorite song. Just some run-of-the-mill late 50's early 60's romance pop, with a bit of blues sprinkled in. I wouldn't have liked this album even back when I craved this kind of thing, it's so generic and boring. Literally nothing special here. It's not bad, their harmonies are actually pretty damn good, even if their individual voices are a bit...sour? I don't know, I just don't vibe with their sounds. Everything else is just so bland. I couldn't finish the last song of the album from how boring it was, even though it was relatively short. Felt like eating somewhat dried out white bread, slice after slice, with nothing else. Would be a lot better in moderation, used as parts of a sandwich with other songs of the time period. 2/5.
"Girls, girls, girls were made to love." These guys would be so Me-Too'd today!
Laaaaaame.
I appreciate their harmonies and their place in music history, but the actual music doesn't really hold my interest, to be perfectly honest. I was pleasantly surprised to hear the song with my name in it, though--even if she was kind of a jerk to them.
Dated, in every way. Musically quite pleasing, but not my cup of tea.
очень одинаково звучит от песни к песне вокал быстро надоел старая манера исполнения и инструментал, все очень просто и скучно вроде есть популярные песни не буду переслушивать
This was so boring, I'm happy it was short.
Really hard to get excited for this one with no “hit” singles. It’s fine - they sound great but nothing on this album made me want to re-listen or hear more of their catalog.
favs: that’s just too much stick with me baby lucille cathy’s clown rating 1.6/5
Ok
Wtf l’album le plus court de tous les temps Eh bah je me fais chier, heureusement que c’est court, l’album n’aura pas 1 uniquement car il est absurdement court Lucille : pas mal
I mean the writing and arranging aren't bad, they sing some sweet harmonies and all. But, yeah it's an album for a teenager in the 50s. Oh wait, 60s! Genius Hits the Road came out this year, just go listen to that.
The harmonies are well done, but the album is very dated. This must be a pick of historical relevance. 2.5/5 Probably won't listen again
I love their voices and I actually really liked the closing track but overall not my favorite songs from them
Again, not really my thing
3.5/10 - The 60s pre-Beatles/Bob Dylan albums are tough. They are fun for about two songs and then devole into repetitive whiny bs.
This kind of music from this era is not exactly something I would want to come back to. It's very repetitive in theme and in style. 4/10
Simple rock 'n' roll which was diluted a bit for mass appeal. It's not terrible, but even for that time there's better examples of the genre knocking about.
Man I was just not in the nostalgic sounds when I listened to this album.
Crazy but it felt like 27 minutes was too long for this album. They had a hit, a few derivatives, and then a bunch of mopey slow songs. There just wasn’t enough variety here. I get that they can be called “pioneers” in the genre, but they don’t have enough content to really fill out even 30 mins here without it getting tired. Not my favorite.
Foundational to modern music I guess but I’m glad things have gotten better from here.
First time with The Everly Brothers. No denying the influence their sound had on the early Beatles and the British Invasion to follow. That said this wasn’t my daily cup of tea.
Two horny dudes with annoying voices.
A fine little album but I found it impossible to really focus on it.
Yawn. Standout song: Lucille
I really wanted to love this. My grandmother had a sweet spot for The Everly Brothers, she even introduced me to them as a kid. But even as a kid I was like “ what a bunch squares”. No joking aside their biggest problem is their music is so of its time that it holds it back pretty significantly. This music is completely edgeless. It’s as wholesome and “square” as it gets. Not a terrible waste of my time, I liked the song “baby what do you want me to do”. But yah the album is underwhelming, I was impressed that they play their own guitars, that’s cool.
They sure are brothers alright. I actually feel nothing bad about these guys, I quite enjoy Lucille. But it's nothing more than teenage gossip waiting to happen. Someone's blues for when Nancy Stevens doesn't say yes to the Prom (5/10, 2/5 on this scale)
Later rock n roll album from the Everlys

Slow and sleepy. Also a wee bit creepy. Why did they seem to think love was so dark and life/death?
A date with the Every brothers shows how much music has moved on from that date. Thankfully. Another review states "so white it hurts" and I couldn't agree more. Thankfully the Beatles (and others) are just around the corner to move music along. The longest song is 2:41 just so the radio can play a few more ads. I feel most of the songs here have not aged well. I am interested that the end of many of the songs just appear to fade away against a definitive conclusion.
An opening song that is so painfully of it's time that it was hard to listen to. It also blows my mind how different rock sounds from this early 60's sound to how it sounded by the end of that decade. Psychadelics really upended the art form. All I got outta this listening experience was a preference to go listen to Dion & The Belmonts. This album is so lacking in anything distinctive that I'm getting suspicious about it's inclusion on this list being "Love Hurts", a song that was famously covered many years later by Nazareth. "Cathy's Clown" is fine, but again, just go listen to Dion or some other doo-woppers, teeny-boppers, or surf-rockers that immediately come to mind - they did it better than these two. 2/5, did not make me feel like I was in The Sandlot enough
Very dated. quick sings and only 27 minutes
Cathy's clown is a standard for the age but the rest of the album is very samey and formulaic. Not much depth but definitely a swinging time was had by all
🥱
Sigh, Cry, Almost Die is what we do on a daily basis living in this capitalist hole of a shit ass world.
The cover doesn’t inspire confidence, but let’s see what it’s about —- For lack of a better word, it’s very “sockhoppy.” I guess that has its own charm, but it’s so twee and same-y that it doesn’t do much for me. Favorite: Love Hurts (heard before) 2.5
Ive never listed to it but this quite feels nostalgic and romantic.
Basically quite disappointed with this. Was expecting better songs. But it just dragged on a bit. Nothing very exciting.
Pretty basic lyrically. Girls girls girls. The singing and harmonies are good, but nothing extraordinary or complex.
Nice harmony but most of the songs were a bit boring.
1,8/5
This looks hella dated. Unfortunately, it is exactly as dated as it looks. The opener greets you with a chorus of "Girls, girls, girls were made to love", which reduces them to an object for the male gaze even before you get to the part about stalking them at the end. The rest of the songs aren't much better, being basic 60s pop with basic love lyrics that can devolve into misogyny at times. It might have been influential in 1960, but this just didn't age well at all. Maybe it's here for "Love Hurts", which was covered many times by various artists(the most well-known is by the Scottish hard rock band Nazareth, who are better than these guys despite being rather run-of-the-mill AOR). In seven years, we went from this to Hendrix and the Beatles, who leave everything here in the dust. It's not really a good record despite clear pop hooks and harmonies, but at least it's nice and short.
Nice date guys :) 59 days left... 2/5
This album is so generic 60s.
Nice harmonies, a few decent tunes, but not something I would listen to anymore
Sounds very dated and some of the lyrics aren’t great for now.
Doesn't do much to get my heart racing. Maybe would be more exciting if I was 14 and living in 1960.
The kids in the day probably loved it. It feels super cheesy.
This is so boring, lyrics and music are predictable from the first seconds of every song. Poor, heartbroken fcukers.
pop-rock de los 60, beach rock, tipo beatles, suave, amor, etc.
All rather samey, no real bangerz and it's all a bit "why won't me bird kiss me". We need something exciting at least once I think x
Forgettable. Cathys clown is a good track
Helt ayt Tregt Bra melodier til tider
Lyrics are outdated but the music is catchy and very remniscent of that era
Album 126. A Date with The Everly Brothers (https://open.spotify.com/album/4Nro0nGcWVybv8cZXmSU4P?si=mp69IjC6SsO4ezc3ThZThw) — The Everly Brothers (1960) Sweet oldie music. I can mark out only Love Hurts, their original song that covered a lot of times. In others, just okay 2/5 Liked songs: — Love Hurts
Didn't really love this one. 2 stars for me
Overall Rating - 2.38/5 (4.75/10). Other than Love Hurts, this album is extremely forgettable.
2.3 2x nothing wrong just a little old timey
Not very interesting or exciting. I see why other acts of this era became bigger household names. Not a bad listen just plain.
Saccharin for the ears
Two part harmony kings. Familiar songs. Classics all.
These guys feel like a staple at every record store I've ever been to. It's nothing exceptional to me but not bad either. Very 50's rock n roll. would fit right in a david lynch movie.
Love a short album. This was fine. Nothing too memorable though.
It was fine. The opening track didn't age super well, though...
This style of early ’60s pop just doesn’t do it for me. The sound feels repetitive and exhausting, and I don’t find much here that’s genuinely enjoyable. I can appreciate its place in music history, but as a listening experience, it’s not something I connect with at all.
I think the Everly Bros. writ large have made some good, interesting music in their prime but as a standalone album I don't think this one is particularly notable. I'd give the artist a 4/5 but this sample not so much.
Opening track is giving... rape culture. I was reading some of the other reviews and someone said these 60s sockhop albums have simp energy, and that resonates with me. Oh, Cathy's Clown is a banger, I know this one. (Again with the simp energy) So Love Hurts covered by Nazareth later becomes famous... and hate to say it but they did it better. Lucille is a little Richard cover. Went back and listened to it, and as Frankie said, "theres no way they did that better." Absolutely not. I will say it has more emotion and spice than any of their other songs, but thats not saying much. The only thing this album accomplished was making me a Little Richard fan. Probably wouldnt listen again, but Cathy's Clown is a standout.
I liked a couple of their songs, however I was struggling by the end of it to get through it. Little doses would be fine. I guess they must have been heart throbs back in the day.
Cute but not much too it
it was ok
Ouch. So glad the Brits rescued us from this.
Music for my Mom.
classic 60's american music. not that bad but not my type. I would definitely love it 5 years ago. but now its just meh.
I always had a soft spot for The Everly Brothers - or at least some songs of them like "Walk Right Back". This album, in its whole length, doesn't really move me. It's ok, but underwhelming for such an album list.
2.3 God if I was on a date with them I'd be falling asleep in seconds. Harmonies are nice but my god make it interesting. So glad Beatles took that and within 4 years evolved it so much the world was forever changed. This is why the Beatles get the credit they deserve.
12 song 27 minutes instant 5. This is the most let’s meet up at the milkshake shop in our convertibles I love you girl album we’ve gotten so far. Girls were made to love is so garbage rhetoric but like obviously it’s dated. I get so tired of this type of music so quickly at least this was only 27 minutes long. For that it gets a rating bump. Thank god they stopped making music like this.
Doof
I know it was 1960 and all, but surely there were better, less schmaltzy albums from that time?
This was pretty much what I expected. Nice tunes, nice voices, pretty dated.
Well Kathy's clown was the only song I recognized so wondering again why this is on the list...???
This is alright, nice harmonies and pretty simple rock 'n' roll / pop songs about girls. Feels a bit basic listening to it in 2026, though I love the fact that the cover recommends they are songs 'for listening or dancing'. Good inspiration for someone who doesn't know what music is, really.
Hör bara det - ”Ah-bi-pa-pe-lula, she’s my baby”. Nåväl, lagom album att göra comeback i cirkeln till. Tack Bert3000 och alla deltagare för festen, jag vaknade först igår. Stark tvåa. Albumet asså, festen var en femma.
tråkigt men gulligt. fint omslag
Songs your great grandpa listened to while wooing your great grandmother.
Most, if not all, of these songs are less than 3 minutes and I despise that. Short songs can be good but all of these kinda mesh together into a big glob of love songs. The vocals are nice and the tunes are catchy but thats it. Favorite Tracks: Stick With Me Baby, Donna, Donna
Not a fan
I feel like some Boomer is sitting in his basement bar or garage with his MAGA hat on listening to this and thinking about the "good old days" when pinching women's butts and copping feels wasn't considered sexual assault. This music reminds me of being in the car with my parents with the "oldies" station on. It does harken back to a simpler time, but I don't think the people who "remember" the '50's realized how dark it actually was for a lot of people. This music just acts as cover for that. Otherwise, musically early rock is a relic of it's time and other than it being a piece of the chain that led to more interesting music, it's pretty simple and boring.
Didn't enjoy it
Very pleased that this lasted shorter than a sitcom.
The only positive was “Love Hurts”which Nazareth later covered much better
Kinda silly
Sounds like the last record of the 50s in alot of ways. Original version of “Love Hurts” was a nice surprise. 1.9/5.0
#811. Its fine, I guess, but this not something I could ever get into. 2/5: meh
It's like listening to Back to the Future.
Out of date?
Fun but just not my thing
Very dated with some questionable lyrics as others have mentioned. Musically inoffensive and nice harmonies but probably won’t return to this.
Pretty uninspiring. Just normal 60s pop rock.
156 La música suena piola, hasta que escuchas las letras que envejecieron como la leche. Saludos cordiales (?) desde el 2026
From doing this list, I’ve learned that when an album has a short runtime and has a dozen songs, it feels like it takes 3 hours to listen to because it’s agonizing to get through. Also, I’d like to hear The Everly Brothers cover Master Of Puppets.
Mid album
The objectification of women put me in a bad mood to start with.
Nah, not for me. Not a fan of thin, pop from any generation. Yes, they have nice voices and there are a few (a few!) musical touches here. But, I can't abide the syrup-py love junk. And of course, as many have mentioned, the stalker-y or "women exist for men's pleasure" lyrics. I guess it's Ok for the list because some people do like the pop stuff and it is representative of music of that era. It's just too bland for me. I'm generously giving it a 2 because it's not like it's annoying or poorly done.
As a small kid, I grew up listening to The Everly Brothers as my dad was a fan. So I was surprised that I don’t know any of the songs on this release. No Bye, Bye Love, no All I Have To Do Is Dream and no Wake Up Little Suzie. Had there been any of those, I might have looked upon this more favorably but as it is, this is very of its time and not particularly exciting. It’s less than 30 minute runtime is a bonus!
I grew up listening to this style of music in the 80s... But I preferred The Beach Boys. The album is fine, I'm just not in the mood for it, so 2 Stars.
vit musik
This date was hardly worth the free meal. Also, I’m not into threesomes
Reminded me of my nana who loved the Everly Brothers
This album was a little too... simple for me? The lyrics weren't carrying much weight, the vocals were alright I guess, nothing about the composition stood out at all, and the themes were pretty flat with a good amount of spite that didn't really feel justified. Also, the obvious objectification of women present throughout pretty much every song in the album is very problematic as well- women were not just "made to love" and it seems The Everly Brothers weren't able to understand them beyond their ability to kiss and have sex with a man "Girls, girls, girls were made to love That's why some have eyes of blue That's why some stand five feet two" WOOOOOOOOO EUGENICS WOOOOOOOOOOO
Music has moved on, and despite the misogynistic undertones, it's just too lightweight for me. I can hear the influence they had on the early Beatles, so they get marks for that
They packed in so much incel energy in just a few songs, lololol. Also, I was a little surprised that it was recorded in 1960, it feels much older in style than that. They're like the transition point from crooners to rock and roll.
To me it's too boring, it's an old black and white film that's pleasant but dull, admittedly didn't finish
Not a date I agreed to.
Every time I think pop music now is generic I listen to shit like this and realize it could be worse.
Charming at first, but falls off when each and every song is about girls, girls, girls. I guess I should credit the album title and cover for zero nuance. There are much, much better albums that came out of this era of music.
Their fourth album. Rock n Roll / Pop. Hmmm, pretty bland. The lyrics are awful. I know this was 1960 but even so the lyrics are so dumb and the music flat. They even make Lucille sound shitty. Thank fuck society exploded into all directions and people had things to get wild about other than 'girls' to put into songs.
Think I would rate this higher if I didn't understand English to hear how cringe some of these lyrics are. Music sounds great, harmonies impressive. Cathy's Clown maybe doesn't deserve to be burried as the last track. But my first feeling on seeing this album in the future will be cringe.
A date with The falling asleep halfway through the album even though it's only 27 minutes long. 6/10.
I'm usually not interested in this kind of music, but it was still fun to listen. It's a pure slice of American history, so dated and typical of its time that it almost sounds like a parody. It also made me wonder how the music we love today will be perceived in 60-70 years. Probably just as cheesy and dated, for the most part... Musically speaking, they sound like a competent act, if you're into this very specific genre. I liked the old-school blues and doo-wop vibes. The vocals are all right, and a couple of tracks (like Sigh, Cry...) remain surprisingly catchy. They kind of grew on me after a while, and I enjoyed it more than I expected - even though it was probably more out of curiosity than for its musical value. Certainly not something I'd come back to, but I can understand their appeal back in the days. This kind of band was already an endangered species in 1960, though. The rock'n'roll tsunami would soon make them irrelevant. 4/10
In a single word: Boring.
I'll give that all of this watered-down-rock-n-roll of the 50s and early 60s (like the watered down blues to come) was an important historical bridge between young white people and the promised land of the real artists of the day. The need for a bridge was a product of a racist culture, to be sure. But that culture was a reality so I think that bridge served a very important role. Standing sixty/seventy years out, however, we now have full access to the promised land. Why should every music fan go back out and stand on the bridge? Put another way, WHY IN HEAVEN'S NAME DO WE KEEP RECOGNIZING AND CELEBRATING THE IMITATORS AND IGNORING THE GREAT WORKS PRODUCED BY THE ORIGINAL JUMP AND ELECTRIC BLUES BANDS AND ROCK AND ROLLERS OF THIS PERIOD?? From this perspective, these recordings are limp pop; well recorded, but really bland and boring.
