Reviews (page 3 of 7)

It is what it is, and that's bloody great

Lots of classics, could be good wedding songs

I liked it, Cathy's Clown was my favourite. The Album as a whole is not my favourite and I do have to admit, the lyrics don't really interest me, it's just about sex/loving girls mostly, I mainly liked this for the music and the harmonious singing of the brothers.

This was the music my mother told me she chose over Elvis when she was in high school. They have a recognizable sound, but it is hard to classify—a little bit country, a little bit rock 'n' roll. There's a good, fun mix of stuff on this album. I didn't try dancing to it, but I agree it was great for listening.

This was some fun music for the day.

A nice Happy Days kind of listening experience. Some out-dated gender ideas, etc., but otherwise very, very...nice.

It’s good to hear a classic like this. I hadn’t realized Love Hurts started with The Everly Brothers. A good listen.

Fun songs, gorgeous vocal harmonies. A great nostalgic voyage. Very good album. 4 🌟

didn't know them, was quite good

There are several true classics of the early years of rock and roll on this album. There's also more filler than I'd like to see, but that was pretty common for pop albums in the pre-Beatles years. It's still a pretty top notch album, with lots of catchy hooks and those classic Everly harmonies. I enjoyed this. Fave Songs: Cathy's Clown, Love Hurts, Stick With Me Baby, That's Just Too Much, Made to Love, Always It's You, A Change of Heart

I really dig it. I like 50s/early 60s stuff. Especially groups that clearly heavily influenced Beatles, etc.

Clearly dated, but still great stuff.

Catchy but a little repetitive. Overall good and fun

They really have such a distinctive sounds. There are two iconic songs on this album, Love Hurts and Kathy's Clown. The other songs sound like early 60s bangers.

Liked it

pretty fun, a little cheesy but forgivable for the era overall, it’s groovy - 8/10

makes me wanna go to a sock hop and ask my sweetheart to go steady<3

Good ole Everly Bros.

An artifact from a simpler time of rock and roll. Obviously the Beatles listened to this intently.

Fanade HÅRT

Utter bubblegum. Finely tuned pop songs of the era. A sub 30 minute album like the good old days! Sprinkling of classics (Cathy's Clown, Love Hurts). Will never play again.

Classic album from the early 60s. Nice harmonies and melodies, kind of soothing to have in the background. Short and sweet. I enjoyed it.

eerste nummer en al fan. Leuk, warm stemgeluid en leuke harmonie. girls girls girls.

Cliché, sweet, harmonising vocals, classic

I'm not very fan of this kind of music, but it's nice.

Brilliant 60s pop. So many songs that I've heard without knowing who sang it.

Great variety of musical styles and different emotions. Each song was just right. Took me back to the Enchantment Under the Sea dance.

I liked the album. Kinda the same as The Beastie Boys where a lot of the songs sounded similar, but it was good.

This is the 50s/60s style I definitely like. In fact the path Spotify went down after the album finished has been delightful.

Per goth depression

Easy listening 🎧

oldies but goldies

This is a band who had so many great hits due to their lyrics; Wake up Little Susie, Cathys Clown, Dream Dream, Lucille, Till I Kissed her! So I am cutting them slack on this album of puffted put together songs. They were like The Beach Boys who too, were pushed into fast hits, fast profits $$£. I think it’s important to look at the when and why these albums were produced. My desire is qualitative not quantitative. Great acoustic and good group performances. Listen to their greatest hits and you’ll see their true talent. And in my own words”I am awake-tee hee...Suzi”

Agradable Rock 'n' roll juvenil.

Not bad... but this album is very very generic. And, surely, much music from the time when it was released is more interesting than what this album can offer. It's funny, an enjoyable record, at least at times, but it's not memorable in any sense. It hasn't aged very well, to be honest. It's a nice album, not very interesting, with some rock sounds, short songs, very direct and simple. And it feels very bland after some songs go on too. So, I wouldn't say that it's good either.

great harmonizing from phil and don. nice little ditties "for listening or dancing". saw them open up for simon and garfunkel once. "love hurts" and "so how come (no one loves me)" are highlights. the white bread take on "lucille" is funny.

cortito y simple, melodías pegadizas y lindas armonías.

These are definitely the guys that got your granny’s panties dropping. This is a clear transition from the music of the 50s to 60s, even containing some suggestive lyrics at times. It doesn’t really resonate today, but I can see how this would have been amazing at the time.

So squeaky, so clean. Do have to say, the quality of this recording is superb. Looks like most of the tracks were remastered in 2003 or 2007. Sounds good.

It's pretty good.

The songs are good, their singing was excellent. A lot of music from this era suffers from being associated with an idealistic image of the era portrayed in movies and tv. If you dig in just a little you’ll see that these are 2 middle-America boys writing simple and catchy songs. Can’t help but note that some of the lyrics (hilariously) reflect some outdated sensibilities. I like it, likely won’t be returning.

It's a good oldies bop... but I don't wonder why THIS album, cuz there's plenty of iconic oldies missing on this list, and this really was just fine to me (an oldies aficionado, if I do say so myself).

Their harmonies always sound good, and Stick With Me Baby and Cathy’s Clown are all-time classics, and Love Hurts is good (but done much better by other artists). Most of the other songs are pretty unremarkable.

a bit dated but some nice melodies on here

I don't really know what to say about this one. Not too bad in some respects bit certainly not something I would seek out.

Enjoyable but kinda vanilla. I do tend to enjoy harmonization, which is a staple in this album. Fun to see what helped lead to Beatles / Simon + Garfunkel, hard to decide between 3 and 4 stars here… leaning 3

Декілька пісень мені сильно не сподобалися, особливо A Change of Heart.

Pop añejo. Maestros de The Beatles y de Beach boys. Desfasado total.

Do the Everly Brothers count as industry plants? It's very obvious what they were going for with this album, even 66 years into the future. They seem to be two good looking brothers, targeting the teenage girl demographic with love ballads and 50/60's rock&roll, two genres that were very popular at the time. I don't hate this album as I do like the sharp guitar tone, a staple in he music of this era and the two singers have great vocals, stacking their harmonies very well. But at the same time, it's very obvious how generic and unoriginal they are. It honestly just sounds like a soundtrack for an old teenage heart throb rom com, well made but very shallow.

Again, another part of the puzzle, further and further upstream.

Thursday June 4th, 2026. There wasn't really anything wrong with this album, I would just rather listen to Chuck Berry. I'm glad I listened to it once though, it is pretty good classic rock. 7/10.

Overall: 2.56 (rounded to 3) Consistency: 2.25 Originality: 3 Enjoyment: 2 Virtuosity: 3 1. Made to Love - 2 2. That's Just too Much - 2 3. Stick with Me Baby - 2 4. Some of the first songs sounded unfinished and ended abruptly, but the last half of the record was nice.

Nice songs. Many artists of the sixties and seventies were inspired by the Everly Brothers, namely Paul Simon. Not an amazing record, but a nice listen, with recognizable songs that are hard to resist.

it doesn't really do anything for the modern ear, but it definitely served as inspiration to artists emerging in the late 60s and early 70s. Paul Simon being one.

27 minutes of the same sound, just different lyrics

Not the strongest material here, until the stone classic “Cathy’s Clown” wraps it up. So why is it on the list over better Everlys? I don’t know, but it doesn’t matter that much, as any record featuring their uncanny harmonies and punchy energy is worth a listen. It hurt to learn that the brothers hated each other in later years. Doesn’t seem possible with the way they vibe together in song. But there’s show biz, and there’s show business.

60s simp pop? Ehhh okay. I guess it was a product of it's time.

Easy enough listen

Enjoyable album.

Bouncy bouncy bouncy.

no sé porque siento que no le puedo dar 3, va más a un 2.5 pero sí me gustó, igual va 3 por redondeo feels a little dated, maybe that's it

1960 early rock n roll innocence

Tosi lyhyt

Like the deeper tracks

So hey basically Hank Williams for the suburbanites. Enjoyed it though. Also... the original of Love Hurts! Hahahaha I'm going to have the Nazareth version in my head for days.

I really liked the harmonies. I enjoyed a lot of the music but did sometimes find it a little boring. The lyrics were not so good, very dated. A nice short album, but it feels very much of its time and I probably won't listen to it again. Fav song: Love Hurts Least fav: Made to Love

Clearly very influential and I'm glad to have listened but it's not music I'd go back to. Feels very formulaic, and I know you need the formula to then have future musicians break it but I was quite bored of it by the end which is impressive with such a short album. Nice harmonies though and it's fun that these guys were on Graceland when we had it just a few days ago. Favourite song: Lucille Least: Made to Love

Easter egg

Good stuff

A coupla really fun tunes in there

5 - old timey easy listening rock. Pleasant enough.

It was fun, but obviously very outdated and saccharine lyrics! In the context of when it was made, I get it from a music standpoint. Super simple, bunch of 12 bar blues. Not really my thing, but I can appreciate the history.

A real nostalgia trip, as the Everly Brothers were a favourite of my dad. Not something I would usually listen to, but their voices are amazing and the short songs are perfect slices of 60s Americana

Upbeat, poppy, croony, 1960 standards and classics. Bridging from the 50s into the 60s. They've been covered so many times it's hard to separate it out the original from the influence.

Started off pretty dicey with the "handmaid's tale"ish track made to love, but got a little better after that with some unique bits. 2.5/5 -> 3/5

muy lindo

Short and sweet, great voices, very dated now, Love Hurts the standout track

Made to Love - 2/5 That's Just Too Much - 3/5 Stick With Me Baby - 2/5 Baby What You Want Me to Do - 2/5 Sigh, Cry, Almost Die - 4/5 Always It's You - 3/5 Love Hurts - 3/5 Lucille - 3/5 So How Come (No One Loves Me) - 2/5 Donna, Donna - 3/5 A Change of Heart - 3/5 Cathy's Clown - 3/5 Average score: 2.8/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ apparently these guys were a major influence in The Beatles and other groups (which i can definitely hear), so i see why it's on the list. i don't think this is an album or artist i would actively seek out otherwise, but it was an alright listen overall. because of the album's influential sound (and because i just didn't find it so bad), i gave it a more generous score than i normally would. realistically, it's like a 2.5 in terms of personal enjoyment

Pleasant with one or two songs I’ll revisit

Very sweet and innocent. A different time.

This was cute. The Everly Brothers have that quintessential 50s white guy sound, complete with a cover of a song from a black artist recorded just 3 years earlier. I didn't know Love Hurts by Nazareth was a cover so it was cool to hear that. Cathy's Clown was probably the best track on the album, but just not my fave of this genre.

S'alright

Some nice harmonies here from legendary Everly Brothers, I knew of a few tracks on this, but they do kind of blend from one to another, It is an enjoyable listen though, but still dead average with probably 3 stars.

I much prefer the Everly's harmonies to lots of their contemporaries, bar Simon and Garfunkel. Still, this was all a bit much. And some of the lyrics are painful from this era.

Here's another one I wanted to like more. It's pretty straightforward, the songs are mostly nice, the brothers harmonies are pretty lovely (are they actually brothers... Yes). The bigger songs like Cathy's clown, lucille and love hurts stand out against the others. I felt the second half of the album was stronger than the first which is a bit unusual. I like the everly brothers, it was a nice thing to have on, but it didn't feel like a strong album. Perhaps it made more of a mark at the time, 1960... Mind you this was their second album that year, that's a big ask. Maybe I'll just be putting on their greatest hits in the future. But it was still nice. A strong 3.

Enjoyable but would never crave listening to this again.

The songs that weren't outright creepy didn't do anything for me

(grand) mum’s music.

Pretty good but samey. I had no idea that Love Hurts was a cover.

Its very much of the time. All the songs end up sounding the same, but the musicianship is excellent.

Doet me vaak denken aan old school blues riffjes.

3 out of 5. One of the best parts of this whole challenge is learning where songs originally came from, like the song Love Hurts.

Beautiful vocals and kind of innovative for the pop vocal style that was so dominant at this time. Love Hurts is enigmatic. Impressive.

Alright, kind of corny lyrics but more fun than expected

High 3 Thought id like this more since its such an influence on so many favs. Its funny to sing in thirds literally all the time.

It's fine? Another odd inclusion, who would possibly need to hear this before they die? Also a lot of the lyrics aged poorly. I'm good never listening again.

Simpler times! Nothing deep, it’s all about the harmonizing.

I like this style but I didn’t really connect with any of the songs

This was a hard album for me. Is this what my music sounds like to them? Great harmonies, easy to digest lyrics and melodies, but dated. Not in a good way. I'm old.

a bit sparse on the arrangement, occasional high and tight vibrato isn't my favorite. minimal but effective guitar is the highlight.

Enjoyable overall. Not sure I would listen again. That final song brought it up to three stars.

Odd that the only song that doesn’t objectify women and/or blame women for not loving them is a cover…

If there was a bit more song variety I feel it would get the 4

I enjoyed this. 3.5/5

So 1950's, but then again it was weirdly whiny for a guy singing it. I have a core memory listening to Cathy's Clown with my dad, and so that song hits a little. Are there moments that are a little weird now, sure (Made to Love) but it was the 50's. It goes a little between pop and country which is also kind of interesting mix for back then. Its fun to hear the oldies and some are really catchy and fun but nothing really stands out as amazing.

This is a wholesome little love album and a fun trip through the highs and lows of relationships from a very 1950s 'young lad' point of view. I had no idea they were the originators of Love Hurts. Neat! This is so old-timey that I can't envision just randomly listening to it, but it was enjoyable while it lasted.

Love this genre of music. Great feel and a cheery vibe throughout the record. Short and sweet with great musicianship both vocally and instrumentally.

Fun harmonies, songs felt really short. Not the sort of thing I’d normally listen to but it put me in a good mood. Got a bit samey towards the end.

Fine. Made me want to listen to their bigger songs and album(s). This album doesn’t seem worthy of this list. Is this the shortest album we’ve had on this list at 28 minutes?

Pretty good, though some of these very short songs blended together after a while

The Everly Brothers, I think, are best in “Best of” compilations. They made a solid block of 5 star music. The rest of their stuff is still “pretty good.” This is an easy 3 and I rolled the idea of giving it a 4 around in my brain.

Felt like I knew most of the songs for being covers or because they've been covered (in French for some of them). Quite pleasant and I enjoyed it, even though I don't know when I could feel for playing this album at home. 3.5

First listen

28 minutes!? It gets a full star for that. Blood harmonies are dreamy and haunting. Especially like Kathy’s Clown 3.5

Wingey vocals. There's some fun instrumentation on here but the singing and lyrics did their best to kill the enjoyment for me.

This is older than what I usually listen to, and I had reservations judging from the cover, but I liked it. Nice production and guitars, good songwriting.

bite sized and fun liked more than expected prob higher 3

made to love was not a vibe and so close to intl women’s day smh — song of its time i suppose…. i do like their sound kinda fun if ur in the mood

You get the sense these guys were nerds even in 1960, and certainly the way they castrated Lucile on here was nerdish in the extreme. Still, it's all very pleasant and quite singable, especially Cathy's Clown, which has got tremendous harmonies. Minus several points for being boring and also very old-fashioned in terms of gender roles, but not something you'd rush to turn off.

Old school rock and roll at its finest. This sound has a definite vibe. Meeting up after school lets out in the 50’s at the corner drug store and sipping on a root beer float while dancing to the jukebox. You can hear the rich influence these sounds would have on the burgeoning rock scene to come.

It’s creepy when they sing the blues

Decent album

é ok.

Listening to A Date With The Everly Brothers is like stepping into a 1960s time machine, full of harmonies that totally influenced the Beatles and the Beach Boys. I was kinda surprised the only Everly Brothers album on this list didn't have hits like "Wake Up Little Susie", "All I Have To Do Is Dream", or "Bye Bye Love", I mean, what are we even doing here? Though. It does have their big hit "Cathy's Clown" and the original, sad version of "Love Hurts", but it's more about deep cuts and cool covers like "Lucille". At only 27 minutes, it's a fast experience that captures the style of the era, even if some of the lyrics about all the girls, girls, girls in "Made For Love" feel pretty dated by today's standards. It's got this sweet sound, but the amount of sappy love stories that keeps it from being anything but bubblegum pop. Those harmonies are amazing, totally timeless, and you can tell they really influenced a lot of other singers. It's not the greatest album, but it's a fun listen and brings back memories of old diners and stuff.

It has the charm of an old dresser.

Doot doot

This one will woo the damsels Fave track: Made to Love

When you buy your gal/dame that fancy doodad she’s been wanting. 3/5

Funny how their 1958 self-titled album has so many better songs, and yet this one is on the list (and also apparently ranked higher on Billboard when it was released)

This is okay. I think it’s worse than its antecedents and its descendants, but it’s still fine. It’s pretty bubblegummy but not in a fun way.

Classic late1950s/early 1960s bubblegum pop with very nice harmonies and clean instrumentation. Lyrically, it's pretty simplistic - but you wouldn't expect anything more from this style of music. Would potentially get old in a longer format, but at just 27 minutes it's a pleasant diversion.

Decent.

Great album, not what I was expecting from the album cover. I would call this 'classic rock' but there are clearly some folk and singer song writer style influences. Interestingly, I wonder if there was such thing as singer song writer when this came out?

Tiny tunes from old times. Nice.

6.5/10

yeah it was fine 3.5

Good old sound! 3/5 #musicsky #albumsky

Musical revolutions were sparked in the 50s and 60s. In some cases, the music was so groundbreaking that it is still worth listening to today. This album is not one of them. It sounds too much like completely outdated pop from a bygone era. It was interesting to hear the original version of Nazareth's cover of Love Hurts, which I often listened to in my youth. But I don't need to hear it again. 3/5

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would, after judging it by its cover. Still not the greatest thing ever, but it was fine. High 3.

Really enjoyed this but probably wouldn’t listen again in a hurry

Love hurts earns this at least a 3. It's chill and makes me reminisce, as long as I don't listen too much to the lyrics.

The most 60s album I've listened to . Not necessarily bad but this one especially feels more dated than other 60s acts 5-6/10

Classic 60s stuff. Liked the feel the album had, very easy listening. The vocals are great. However, every song did sound pretty much the same.

Teenage but Fine. Like a lot of early rock n roll type stuff, I enjoy it while listening but its instantly forgettable and doesn't make a strong impression. I would listen if its playing but not necessary seek this out again. One song had the kind of walking beat that reminds me of the early beatles music, which made me wish I was listening to one of those instead. Not bad but not special. Highlights: ?? I don't remember any of them specifically, lots of songs about about dating Cover: Generic, matches the album.

Musical puppy love.

When to listen: at a retro diner with a milkshake (or even an egg cream!) on the jukebox. Fun album, great voices, lots o boppos.

Pleasant enough, but oh my god every song sounded identical - I didn't realise autoplay was running and I'd been going through multiple albums of theirs! I want to give this a 2 for being samey, but... it was nice music and I guess being able to listen to an extra hour means it was not bad at all! :)

Good music, just not for me

Harmless, Elvis-without-the-hips. Reminded me of the Back to the Future interpretation of the 50s

Rating: 7/10

Had definitely heard OF the Everly Brothers, but didn't recognize any songs.

Catchy and pleasant

Great sound, classic late 50s/early 60s songwriting. Some of it raises an eyebrow. No major stand-outs

Perfectly pleasant but not very impressive. Was nice to hear some pre-beatles pop either way, feels like it's a period of music that gets overlooked these days.

This actually sounds pretty good for 1960 - no issues with the production and the stereo mix is good. But the songs are of variable quality. We start with a rocker and then a ballad, and neither move me. Stick with Me Baby is more effective, with pleasing harmonies and nice guitar parts. I like the next track too, a blues piece that shuffles along at a moderate pace, piano in the background. I don't dislike Always It's You either, another ballad but it's not syrupy sweet. Love Hurts is a classic, here in its first recording, although it wasn't a hit for the Everlys and it's not the definitive version. Lucille, the Little Richard song, is covered next and it's a credible performance. Cathy's Clown is last, the big single, a midtempo song built around the vocal hooks. Nice melodies. At a trim 28 minutes, I have no problem recommending this one. There's clearly better albums to come later in the decade, but if you want vocal harmonies and the 50s sound, this might be nearly as good as it gets.

For the time.. roots

Catchy melodies, great voices, nice harmonies but as expected cause it’s from 1960 a bit simplistic and some of the themes are outdated and can feel a bit awkward. Has to said though Cathy’s Clown is a tune!

Hyvin perinteistä pop rokkia. Hyvän kuuloista. Parhaat: Made To Love, Lucille

3.25/5 Stars Top Songs: Lucille, Made to Love, Stick With Me Baby

It's fine. A bit repetitive. They clearly had a theme

These guys really influenced a bunch of other acts by emphasizing strong harmonies and songwriting. Simon & Garfunkel would never have been huge without the Everly Brothers. That said, the music hasn't aged particularly well.

love all the 60s and 70s bands that are named as the _____ brothers. upbeat and fun

I love a 50s baby bop. the OGs of blue eyed soul.

Harmonies are nice, but it's pretty dull.

Today I learned Love Hurts by Nazareth is a cover. Also The Everly Brothers have amazing harmonies. But why this album?

Yes, they are famous. Yes, they are ok. But I still don't like their music.

2.8/5 A nice little album that can be a little bland but I enjoyed the songs.

This is super dreamy. Reminds me of the music my dad listened to. It really takes me back!

A couple of talented young brothers - solid songwriters, amazing harmonizers - produced into a clean-cut, extremely marketable package, trying to hang on to the perfect '50s through the turn into the tumultuous '60s. The only recognizable tunes from this album for me were "Cathy's Clown" and the original version of "Love Hurts", which I knew much better from Nazareth's cover in the '70s. The rest of it seems like a perfect time capsule of its day - well-performed, but not something I feel a particular desire to listen to.

Had merit. A bit dated.

I liked it, especially Always It’s You. I’ve always liked their harmonies, especially on their slower tracks. Not sure if it’s enough to my tastes I’d listen again though.

First time listening to an album from them. Wasn't expecting much but it was honestly a lot of fun! Even though some songs felt quite similar there were still some bangers here and there and the overall vibe was great 3/5

Basic but really enjoyable and fun!

A different era, slow countrified harmonized pop. Big influence on S&G, Beatles, Beach Boys... the list goes on. Great to hear in the background like crickets.

I can see that in 1960 this was probably the bees knees. But for me, it was just okay. It felt a little like I was listening to the chipmunks.

Their harmony style is so iconic for the time period and I think that they were a huge influence on others because of this. Fun, Grease-like vibes that bring youthful joy, but also not something I gain a lot from when listening. It was sort of like popcorn -- enjoyable but not very substantive.

Ganska trevlig lyssning! Ganska stark trea!

Trevligt, men gjorde inget större intryck.

Mysigt, men lämnas också ganska oberörd. Svag trea!

Ur-pop!

This is my first time listening to an Everly Brothers album all the way through. Obviously, the precision of the harmonies here is remarkable. Also obviously, the themes are pretty dated, but I mean, this album came out in 1960. There's no real malice in the themes, so you just kind of shrug it off. This is good, but not great.

Solid harmonies and guitar work - might actually try to play a few of these someday.

When reviewing albums pre-1970s or so, the thing I keep in mind is that the world was a bit different. The Everly Brothers put out their first album in 1957 - then follow-ups in 1958, two in 1960, 1961, two in 1962, 1963, 1964, two in 1965, two in 1967 and 1968. It was just create albums and hope for a hit on them. Sell the single. So is it a great album? Not necessarily. But times were different then and Cathy's Clown is a great single. Then we get Love Hurts which I doubt most people even know as their song. Plus, the album is short and actually quite listenable. So I don't get the overall low rankings here. Solid 3.

Mourn, yearning, love's fool. Sonido evidentemente sesentero, me encanta. Repetitivo pero clásico y acogedoramente desolador.

Nice album. I liked "Love Hurts" which I first heard sung by Nazareth. "Cathy's Clown" was also familiar to me. I understand the big deal about the brothers, their harmony is amazing.

Lots of tunes off this one transcend time and were covered by others.

Quite the throwback, lots of classics here.

Wish more of these albums were 27 minutes. This one didn’t leave me wanting more though

Solid, enjoyable stuff. Simpsons: Yes

I enjoyed listening to the Everly Brothers and hadn't realised that they first recorded Love Hurts. But as Maggie commented, its a bit samey.

Pleasant date

OK, so the lyrics jarr. But they're 65 years old and (thank god) we've moved on. This is otherwise classy pop at a time when the rulebook was still being written. 3*

The guitars start off like The Kids in the Hall. This sounds like the music my childhood friend's dad would play. This was a simpler time, before the government flooded the streets with psychedelics and cocaine. Just a string of love songs. It's good for what it is, but Buddy Holly did it better. Some good harmonies, though. I'll give this a 3.

As played out as Cathy's Clown was at a previous place of work of mine, I've kind of grown to like the Everly Brothers and their harmonies over the years. Even Cathy's Clown has become enjoyable to listen to on occasion. 3.25/5

I don't think I would listen to this on repeat or anything, but occasionally we get these early 60s albums and the long songs are still less than 3 minutes and there's something I really like about that. This was fun, and would be an occasional listen from me. 3.25/5

These brothers sure know how to harmonize, throw this one on the jukebox

Some hits on here

Nice pop songs with a bit of country twang. This was a sweet and wholesome throwback that I'd be happy to play again. The opening track “Made to Love” is really good but the lyrics are a little silly. It’s about a father giving his son ‘the talk’ about girls, but all he says is “girls are made to love,” which isn’t really anything. I was expecting the father to say “girls will break your heart” or something, but I guess Everly Brothers are too wholesome even for that.

Solid rock and roll album that's jam packed with catchy love songs. Lyrics are a little dated but it's not always fair to judge things like that when this was released around 65 years ago. I liked it overall.

Only on this site do you go from Pantera to the Everly Brothers, and I absolutely love it!

Auch bluesigere Momente wie „Baby What You Want Me to Do“ geben dem Album zusätzliche Farbe. Insgesamt wirkt die Sammlung geschlossen, mit einer ruhigen, selbstbewussten Art, die ihre musikalische Handschrift klar erkennen lässt.

Charming harmonies. Quaint lyrics.

Excellent harmonies/singing. Musicianship is competent if not all that exciting. Lyrics are sappy or saccharine, a product of the times. I can see how they were influential, but not something I'll come back to.

Surprisingly fun. Perfect for what it is. There's even some cool production, especially on "Sigh, Cry, Almost Die" and "Cathy's Clown." I enjoyed this record, but I wouldn't say it moved me. Three stars.

Easy to listen to Pop goodness.

It's the 50s (and early 60s). I liked Lucille. their harmonies are pretty good and some of the songs are pretty catchy.

Made me feel like cruising to the soda fountain to perve on the local broads.

Light and fun - though from a different time. (3/5)

The vibe from many 50's movies This collection is missing many of my fave EB tracks, but still great to hear in 2025

A album with exceptional harmonies, but certainly not my favorite. That would be their debut album THE EVERLY BROTHERS. That is the one with the all of the hits, including "Bye Bye Love" and "Wake Up Little Susie", and personally that is the album of theirs that I would have included. For those complaining about the lyrics, me thinks you are projecting far too much. Sometimes sweet and innocent is exactly that and not some dark Lynchian lie that is waiting to attack. Silly hipsters.

The album is largely meh, but there's a couple real treasures on here, with Cathy's Clown really being a standout track.

Good harmony

This is a very easy listen. Stand out songs - Cathy's clown, Love hurts

I love their harmony and their guitar, but their overall approach is so dull unless they pick up a song with some soul like Lucille. 3/5

What do I do with this? I got no real frame of reference. I listened to the Oldies radio station growing up, but when it played stuff like this, my attention drifted. It all kinda sounded the same from the perspective of someone in the 90s, let alone today. I don't think I'd ever seek this out, but it doesn't get me angry, so 3 is probably a safe rating.

no thank you

I get the historical significance of the album and they have great voices but it got kind of boring and cheesy as the album went on

Great sound, great harmony. Not my kind of music, although it was a pleasant listen.

OK. But not the best Everly Brothers album

bitlsi prije bitlsa. neka ih

Some of this just great- Cathy’sClown and Live Hurts. Production and voices flawless but overall just a little too saccharine for me.

I didn’t realize that Love Hurts was performed by them!

I kept resorting back to this listen as a history exercise. We couldn't have gotten to The Beatles-Simon & Garfunkel-The Stones-Linda Ronstadt-Beach Boys-etc had we no Everly Brothers. From this historical and foundational perspective, I can appreciate the music. Would I myself have a date with these brothers? No.

It’s good but it’s so buddy holly like I can’t see past it

Listening to "That's Just Too Much" as you drive home down empty roads after a trip to the grocery store where you decided not to buy the 22 dollar pork shoulder for a Sunday ragu. You'd be excused if you let a tear roll down.

++: Stick With Me Baby, Baby What You Want Me to Do, Sigh, Cry, Almost Die, Lucille +: Made to Love, That's Just Too Much, Always It's You, Donna, Donna, Cathy's Clown +-: Love Hurts, So How Come (No One Loves Me), A Change of Heart 6,3/10

Correct

Good for its time.

For one time, an old but good listening album

A bit twee and tame but does grow on you, understandable inclusion here 3*

Some of the lyrics definitely did not age well. Very vanilla, but tunes are inoffensive

Would not buy

Pretty middle of the road pop album. What's all the fuss about, anyways?

This was nice, clean cut 60s stuff. Not too exciting, but not offensive.

Easy breezy listening. Can't hate an album that's 12 songs and 27 mins. Love Hurts is a staple and there are a few others that would be nice to slow dance or shuffle to with my girlfriend in 1963. RIP JFK.

another early pop group from way back when, mostly lovey-dovey songs from two brothers. the two blend bits and bobs from rock music and country music. the music is fine, but bland and inoffensive. again, there's only so much i can reasonably say about music that came out around this time... a lot of it just blends in with each other, and this album is no exception to that. it's very formulaic and modest when it comes to what it offers, and really... you turn it on and you're not surprised. this is the kind of music the average person just listened to back then. and i just have to wonder why... there wasn't anything better out there? at least it's tolerable to me.

The voices and harmonies were cool. Nothing to complain about it was a nice time.

Loved the music and the harmonies, did not love the attitude toward women.

Just fine

# 597 : A Date With The Everly Brothers A Date With The Everly Brothers - A quick nostalgic detour. This album is old—and it sounds it. A Date with The Everly Brothers is a quick listen, packed with sugary tunes and those signature harmonies the Everlys are known for. They sing beautifully, and the songwriting is solid throughout. Unfortunately, the covers drag it down, and the genre has been done better elsewhere. It’s enjoyable in the moment, but leaves no lasting impression. The music is charming but bland, and in today’s context, it doesn’t offer much beyond a warm glow of nostalgia. Best Track (if you must): Cathy’s Clown – a timeless tune that still holds up. Honourable Mention: Stick With Me Baby – sweet and sincere, even if it doesn’t stick for long. Verdict: Short, sweet, and beautifully sung—but ultimately a nostalgic detour with limited replay value. Closing thought: A pleasant date, but not one you’ll be telling your friends about

A collection of rock love songs that is fitting to the time period. Simple tunes with clear vocals. I’m not adding this to the playlist anytime soon, but I have no issues with it either.

I am a big Everly Brothers fan. However, this album only had two of their better songs on it. I still enjoy the harmony and quick paced songs.

say what you want about their style, the harmonies are solid. good to hear the OG "Love Hurts"

Pretty generic rockabilly to me. Didn’t hate it, but probably won’t be going back to it either.

It's definitely well made, with great harmonies and musicality. It's not my thing, and it's not even the best of the Everly Brothers, but it's good.

This is actually pretty decent doo wop.

My sisters favorite. Good for the time. Not my speed.

Misogynistic love song lyrics that aged like milk, but otherwise enjoyable 60's good white boy music.

It’s as if the clangers dropped acid and recorded an LP. Worst album on here so far

a little repetitive and doo-wop for my taste soz

I sure hope their dad taught them about consent, not just what girls were made for. Dubious consent issues aside, this is a fun romp into the late 50s/early 60s zeitgeist, priming teenage girls for the eventual onslaught of the Beatles. My preference is for the rockabilly songs over the mopey ballads.

This was fine. A little campy. I hate Cathy’s Clown though. It's annoying.

Actually enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would

It had a classic sound, but the lyrics were nothing but cringe.

Classic early '60s oldies - a little too early to be right up my alley, but enjoyable nonetheless

Some pleasant songs

cute little wholesome record, love the vocals and the chemistry on it

Sonically, this is so enjoyable and light. Lyrically? yikes

Basic "of it's time" album

From Eminem to Everly Brothers - hard transition. It is a nice sound, some odd lyrics but clearly they were quite gifted musicians.

This is truly music from a different era; it feels difficult to imagine ever being this innocent as a culture -- and of course, we weren't, we were in denial, but if you can settle into a certain pop music space, the energy and the harmonies here are still compelling.

A fine example of pop from 1960

Long time “aware that the Everly Brothers exist”, but first time listener! In a word, I enjoyed this. It’s basically the live skiffle band at the 1955 prom in Hill Valley: Marty McFly is trying to avoid Biff Tannen so he can fix up his own mom and dad, and the Everly Brothers are crooning “Earth Angel.” From a music history angle, you can hear so many early sounds and styles on this album that would later be refined and deepened by the likes of the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and Simon and Garfunkel. I did enjoy this, but I'll round down to a 3 while saving my 4s and 5s for the acts that later built on this early, good work.

Good vibes, consistent sound, 27 minutes, all great things. Plus fun songs recommended after

Unfailingly pleasant and polite, but the best stuff here has done better by others ("Love Hurts"), as has the worst stuff ("Lucille"). Mostly this is a reminder of why the Beatles were such a big deal.

I'm enjoying this a lot more than expected... The best songs are straight 12 bar blues jingles. Some morbidity in the lyrics at points. Won't go back to this but glad I went here, and read the Wikipedia while listening.

Not bad, a few cinematic tracks - you can hear early Beatles emerging from this. Sugar sweet harmonies and plenty of major chords, Gretsch guitar reverb and twang. Would listen again

Decent to listen to and the harmonies are fantastic

Go on a date with two brothers? What kind of fucked up shit is this? Favorite track: Stick With Me Baby

Some lovely moments.

I enjoyed the music, the rest is … quaint
