Reviews (page 7 of 8)

3/10 - There was one or two ok songs, but most of them were too long and Farmer John and Mansion on the Hill were just bad. love and only love was not bad but it did not need to be 10 minutes.

Neil vähät välittää: ääni väreilee persoonallisesta ihan vain pahan kuuloiseen, ja biisit venyvät horisonttiin saakka. Ainoa ilmiselvä koukku on F*!#in' Up:issa, mikä ei riitä silloin, kun kuulija tuntee houkutusta skipata puolet raidoista niiden puolivälistä lähtien. Tiedän, että artistin kitara kuulostaa upealta, ja että materiaali ei ole mitenkään paskaa. 2,5

I have a ton of respect for Neil Young as a songwriter and acoustic guitar player. I don’t care to listen to him play electric guitar.

Not a huge fan of Neil Young so not a huge fan of this.

Not available on Spotify.

Fine. Songs were too long

Some sort of mashup of country, rock, and grunge but unfortunately took the worst elements of each genre. Overly distorted guitars, off pitch vocals, and ridiculously long outros.

Rolled my eyes when yet another Neil Young album came up, but put it on anyway and was surprised to find myself enjoying it, briefly, before i realised that once again it is shit

Just a bit boring

Vet inte vilket album i ordningen jag fått med Neil Young. Så jävla bra är han ju inte.

Might be the worst Neil Young album I have listened to. Can definitely see how influential he was on the grunge movement, but this just wasn't all that great. 2/5

Ziemlich Country. Ein paar Klassiker. Ok.

Pretty solid moody country rock. About what I expected from what I’d heard of Neil Young before. I can see why Pearl Jam liked it so much.

It was OK. I like Neil Young but didn't really care for the songs.

I’ve had a few Neil Young albums on here and some have been really good and in comparison this one is just incredibly mid.

90s Neil Young makes the list? Nothing jumps out on this album. Again with the too long songs.

Other than Fuckin' Up everything else was pretty middle of the pack. A couple decent jams I guess. Regardless Neil Young is always great. I'm a little surprised this is what is considered one of his bigger albums as I didn't find anything special in it. His discography is expansive so maybe his hits are just spread through 25+ albums and Ragged Glory is considered a cohesive and impactful project. It's worth a listen but I'll be moving on from this one pretty quickly. 2.20 stars.

That feeling you get when the album generator spits out ANOTHER Neil Young album. Ugh. I just don't get it. I really don't see the genius in this warble and noise. In a lot of the songs, like Over And Over and Farmer John, even the band sounds bored with the music, phoning it in at best.

Definitely Neil Young. Definitely the same slow beat in every single song. Does not stand out. I can hear better dropping by any club with a live, local band. This sounds like a garage band that has to pay a club to get a gig. It's awful.

all of the rough edges of a live performance with none of the energy, but mostly fun to listen to

I keep trying to like Neil Young but never pull it off

"F*!#in' Up") Wertung: 🐸(🐸)/5

Bland-ass classic rock rips off REM to stay relevant

This album sounds like an old man with no voice trying to stay relevant and failing miserably. Seriously, why is this on this list?

I tried, but I couldn't take more of it after three songs

not available

Had to check I didn't accidentally put on a bootleg live album at first. This was apparently the intended sound. Right out the gates we get a 4 chord basic country jam with weak vocals and bad lyrics. This would be okay, but it's SEVEN MINUTES LONG. By the end it felt like purgatory. We don't get anything resembling interesting until the third track and by then I'm exhausted. This thing didn't go anywhere near the inside of a studio. It's a bunch of demos.

Unrecognisable as Neil Young. Really unenjoyable.

As a fan of Crosby, stills, Nash and young I was expecting a better album, no song in particular jumped out to me, probably wouldn’t listen again, but can appreciate in itself it is not a bad album, just not to my taste. 2/5.

This is very 'rock'. Especially seeing the accompanying videos on YT now that Mr Young has removed his work from Spotify. Sounds obvious, but then so does this, to me. Didn't offend me, but didn't really entice me either. One star for covering Farmer John, even though the version here is turgid, and the accompanying video awful.

allowing neil young to sing is a crime against humanity mansion on the hill love and only love

Not the Neil Young I was expecting. I found this to be average, maybe a bit below average. At times it was a bit boring as well.

Only stand out songs are Over and Over and Mother Earth. Farmer John was so annoying had to skip half the song.

I'll take 70s Neil Young any day over this. Seems kinda boring and u inspired

Kind of bland rock and roll to me.

I don't care for this version of Neil Young at all.

This one missed the mark a little, there wasn't really a stand out song, there were some nice guitar rifts tho. Felt like I was listening to this album for hours, which is never a good sign. As a side note it does make me think how he's gotten this far without being able to sing.

Normally like Neil Young but this didn't do it for me. Also marking it down because he has far too many albums on this list.

Neil Young is one of the most frequent artists in this challenge with 9 appearances. He's undoubtedly a great song writer and has recorded some great early work. But I really don't see what's noteworthy about this album, aside from being a Neil Young album. It's not terrible, just some pretty standard garage rock songs. Hardly his best work.

Neil Young & Crazy Horse continue their slide into irrelevance and obscurity with this release from 1990.

2.5/5 For the amount of time I listened to Neil Young as a child, I never noticed how whiny and nasally he was. My dad will roll over in his grave, but I just did not enjoy this album. The musical quality was low, and the singing just grated on my nerves. I will not be listening to this album again.

Some bright moments (Farmer John for example) but mostly very lifeless and derivative. Neil most his mojo??

Gammal man har tappat såsen och kastar stela ingredienser i grytan

Neil Young's gotta be one of the most overrated of the oldie rock acts out there.

Finalement il ne grow pas tant que ça sur moi

sayerrrrrr laisse nous tranquille

So two Neil Young albums in a week. While I loved On the Beach, this one not so much. This is the stuff that made me dread listening to two Neil Young albums in a week. It was a solid three for the first third, but by then just became interminable, indistinguishable jams with Young's whhhhhiiiiiiiiiiny voice throughout.

This album didn’t convert me to being the Neil young fan I’m told I should be. He can be a great songwriter. But nothing grabbed me here.

Neil Young's frail voice is just not suited for these heavier compositions. And some of the tracks just go on and on and on and on and...

"Hey let's put some generic blues scales over badly recorded sessions and yell over it". Don't get me wrong, I usually love some good ol' Young, but this one just doesn't work for me.

I wouldn't define this as Neil's best work.

I saw this album and thought, "I really can't do another Neil Young today". Justin said it was better and I should give it a shot. It's better. The music is much better, but his voice. I just can't.

Pretty dull

Meh. Neil Young and Crazy Horse are OK, but this is a boring and repetitive album. 2/5

Not bad but not on Spotify so 2 stars.

Rageddy four chord jams with no discernible point of interest beyond Young's distinctive warble and lyricism. Granted that's a pretty good draw, but the painfully extended solos over a drab rhythm section kill any momentum this could have built from some interesting vocal passages. Even the vocals have a pretty thick layer of cheese at points. A thinly produced bore for me. Fave track: Love to Burn

Not feeling this one, unfortunately. Liked Rust Never Sleeps better. + Farmer John (I heard Parmesan and cackled) + Love And Only Love

Never been a huge Neil young fan. He’s got some good songs, I like Harvest. Maybe this deserves a 3 but his singing brings it down to a 2 for me.

I hate his voice.

Sounds like he’s singing a karaoke version of his own songs

It's fine. It has some nice guitar work and is pretty competently made in general, but it's definitely not exciting and nearly all the tracks go on for way too long. You could easily lose 2-3 minutes of generic jamming off of nearly every track. It wore on me more and more as it went on - it's just all a bit generic and samey.

I am not fond of this album. I do like Mansion on the Hill, though. During the song Farmer Hohn I kept thinking about champagne eyes, wondering if they would look really cool or really creepy.

Country medio grungero, es como si Seattle estuviera en el sur y fueran todos racistas. No me gustó

Neil Young kind of sucks

We'll see if I have the time to listen to it on YouTube... Turns out nope, I didn't have enough time to listen to the whole album

Good instrumentation, boring lyrics, absolutely terrible singing lmao

24th February 2023 Listened on and off on Friday afternoon, dump trip and bit of cleaning before going to London for Harv’s stag on Saturday. Had to listen on YouTube, potentially sacrilege to say about Neil young but sounded a bit like a dad and his mates in their garage. 2.5 if I could.

Utter nonsense that the people behind this list lost all touch around 1985 so that this shit ended up with a nod. Either that or 90s music is worse than I thought. 4/10

Just meh.

Neil has become an authoritarian sissy bitch in recent years. The censorship culture we live in these days is absurd. I can't respect anyone who agrees with silencing honest skepticism and dissenting opinion. Freedom of thought is vital to a healthy society. I liked "Harvest" a lot but this album was pretty flavorless and uninspired. It wasn't unpleasant though. The guitar playing was pretty lackluster; I kept wishing a talented guitarist was playing instead. I don't think Neil Young deserves as many spots on this list as he has

New content for me. Nothing really stood out and hooked me in, but it was, like, fine 2.5/5

Repeat album for me. Not my favorite from Neil, but it still had some moments.

Ragged Glory is the 18th album by Canadian/American singer-songwriter Neil Young, and his sixth album with the band Crazy Horse. It's a critically acclaimed garage rock album that was released around the beginning of the similar sounding grunge rock era. I enjoyed some of the songs on this album, but overall I thought Ragged Glory sounded like any other mainstream rock album. Not a bad album, but nowhere near the best either.

Yet another Neil Young album, and this one scores low on the 'why is it here?' scale. It doesn't seem particularly important or revolutionary for the artist, let alone for music in general. I don't mind the music; F*!#in' Up is a tune and the general garage rock feel is enjoyable. Even the length of some of the tracks didn't bother me too much... at first. Second time around the instrumental breaks really seemed to drag. 2.5 stars.

I could have done without this album. Below is my complete thoughts while listening to the album: Country Rock, simple, gritty, guitar forward - which is okay because Neil's voice is the weakest link. Overall, this is exactly what I would expect to hear when walking into the random country bar down the road. And those guys probably would have full time jobs, unrelated to music.

Ehhh its fine. I didn't grow to appreciate "Young" Neil Young till I was older, So, it will take me some time with middle aged Neil Young.

It was alright, Neil goes in the Bob Dyla (and now geese) catagory of great penmanship but a grating voice to listen too and that does lower my enjoyment greatly. The country music also isn't my cup of team which makes it just boring for me to listen too. Overall 5/10

Indulgent

Not the best of Neil Young - in fact quite opposite - while it wasn't terrible, it is quite nondescript and it doesn't have much spark. I'm not going to feel missing out if I never listen to this album again.

Niet beschikbaar op Spotify

Enjoyed the first couple songs, then lost interest

Neil Young is best to me in smaller doses.

Did not get this, totally bland

Don't really know about this album.. Nothing particularly thrilling to me... Repetitive and did not like the riffs or solo that much... I did not dislike it but I would not rate it as a must listen of an album... Small 2/5

Yeh lil bit of country rock, sounds a bit like its been recorded in a garage

Not really a fan of his voice

Annoying voice and face. Boring music that goes on too long.

Not my thing. Sorry, Mr Horse and Mr Young.

Wikipedia has this down as a "garage rock / grunge" album, huh? At this point of the 1001 list, I'm quite tired of Neil Young!

Neil isn't really my guy, but I think he did a good job with this garage rock style

not even mid

Kind of repetitive, but also kind of different, unfortunately it stands out in a not so good way

Had to listen on YouTube, low quality with ads. Don’t think I would have enjoyed it anyway. Not Neil’s best.

Just your standard rock album of that time.

Ihan ok

It was okay, his earlier stuff is better.

Bored tired blues dad sings the blues rock dad lyrics of the lib man. I like my guy Neil, but he has waaaaayyyyy better albums. This sounded like a couple of dudes that just wanted to “jam like the old days in the basement with a beer.” This album could have been made by any moderately famous local band in anywhere town. It’s fine, doesn't deserve to be on this list.

I really tried to like this... but I have heard feral cats fighting in the streets that sing a sweeter song than this guy. He can certainly rock a guitar, but seriously, who let him touch a microphone? Stand out tracks: Mansion On The Hill, Love and Only Love, Mother Earth.

Too many Neil Young Albums

ehhhhhhhhhhhh

Not the best of Neil young

Off to a bad start: a generic country song about the country that just doesn’t end… this album is looong and boring

This album shows me that I won’t be so fond of every recommendation I get haha, but that’s part of the fun. Ragged Glory feels very dated, and not in a way that makes me feel fond of music from decades past. As much as I tried, I couldn’t get past the experimental garage rock sound. Just not my cup of tea I suppose.

Would be a great album if it focused more on the bold lead guitar parts, but falls back into the tired and trite Young-isms of way too long runtimes, repetitive verses, and bargain-bin songwriting.

I like the music but not a fan of Neil Young's voice over this garage rock sound tbh. Not a bad listen in general though.

Not a fan of his voice. Farmer John probably my favorite song. 2.5 out of 5. Enjoyed the music more than the singing

Throughout my listening of this album, the effect has always been the same: The song begins with an intro that promises a good, if not great rock song ... and then Neil Young starts to sing, and the song is ruined. Whoever thought it was a good idea to ever give Young singing duties didn't do him (or us) any favour. Young might be a good song writer and musician, but his voice is not suited for this kind of music. 1.5/5

neil who? never heard of him.

Can't listen to it as Neil Young took his music off Spotify. Don't care.

An album-length reprise of ‘Rocking in the Free World’. Not really worth the trouble, imho.

Don’t get why there are so many NY albums on this list, don’t get it

I liked the background music but hated his vocals. I would listen to the backing band again, but I think I will stay away from more Neil Young if I can help it. Favorite track: Mansion on the Hill

Not my favorite Neil Young at all

This was an ok album. Get like Neil young was better in the 70s. This is a decent album from the early 90s that matched the rock style. Between his voice and some of the songs don’t really do it for me. There are some songs that rock pretty hard. Overall it’s ok. 5.3/10

Some decent rock music. Didn't know Neil Young had this phase in his career. I'm not really sure what about this album makes it "one you have to hear before you die." By the end, however, I was kind of waiting for the album to be over. Not Young's best.

Liked this significantly less than the last neil young album

I bought this due to the hype when it was released. I quickly sold the CD back to a record store. All the songs have the same tempo. It's boring.

I love Neil Young he has created some beautiful anthems and his music is brill. However, this album I did not get for some reason... the hymn to Mother Earth was strange and I'm not sure whether to laugh or how to feel. I was a bit bored and not particularly into this album. I'm reading the background info about this supposedly being garage-rock or something and I just don't get it. It just feels like dad rock to me. I'm confused and giving this a 2.

Rock n roll, lange numre, soloer, country mixed med hard rock

better than I expected

the holy trinity of dad rock: Neil Young, DMB, and Stelley Dan

Mag ich nicht

“Impressive primitivism coming from a 45-year-old rock icon.”

I like a lot of Neil’s songs, but this album is a bit of a gargled orgy of his vocals (that can get old fast) and drums & rhythm that are way too boring and repetitive. Both times I’ve seen him live, things dragged on a bit too much. Maybe I don’t like his music as much as I thought.

don't really like

Ik kan veel hebben van ome Neil, maar valse zang én valse gitaren is een beetje teveel van het goede.

Interessant iets dat iemand die vals zingt meerdere keren in deze lijst staat.

Didn't really care for this album. Found the songs boring and too much jam.

I don't like this. All the Neil Young touchstones that I love are here: fizzy guitars, weird lead parts, his unique voice. But there is reverb on the snare. And the songs just aren't there. It all just sort of blended together when I listened. I'll stick to pre-1980 NY. I mean "It's only someone else's potato chip" should never be a lyric, right?

Hard listen really. I just don’t like his voice.

“Ragged Glory” by Neil Young and Crazy Horse (1990) This is not Neil Young’s best. But it’s a prime example of what he likes to do when he’s in complete control: good garage rock, capturing the spontaneity, improvisation, and cohesion of four guys playing their hearts out, heedless of the deleterious effects on their (and our) ears. Lyrics on this record are typical for Neil Young—thoughtful, mature, and focused, laid down over unsurprising, plain melodies and chord progressions, but not likely to be remembered. There are no earworms here. Vocally, as usual, he has a sloppy approach to intonation, especially at the ends of phrases, where his downward slur cuts out before he reaches pitch. To this one could add a complaint about his idiosyncratic locution, which is a burden to those not familiar with Neil Young’s singing. (He has a tendency to ‘add a syllable’ in the middle of vowel-consonant blends, but I’m from Missouri so it doesn’t bother me. It drives New Yawkers crazy.) His lead guitar solos are soulful, but not very demonstrative of creativity or a high skill level. It seems like every song ends with extended distorted sustain with plenty of drawn out feedback—a nice device, but it’s overused on this album. Exploratory and experimental, it could have been replaced by a tasteful fade on several tracks (like he does on “Mansion on the Hill”). Crazy Horse provides steady and reliable instrumental and vocal backing, without much flourish. “Mother Earth (Natural Anthem)” is a pretentious, if not pompous, hymn that could have been appropriated by the Green New Deal lobby if it had been performed without the Jimi Hendrix-style solo distorted guitar. But it has nice choral sound. If you’re a Neil Young fan like me, you’ll find this album, well, comfortable. If you’re not, you could skip it and Rest In Peace. 2/5

Eh. Drawn out proto-grunge that seemed very dated. Not bad; just not memorable. No clue how this was Pazz and Jop’s #1 album for 1990.

Neil Young unremarkable eighteenth studio album? Yeah, that sure seems like essential listening along with everything else he ever recorded. Kudos to the creators of this list! 2*

From the first handful of tracks I could tell this really wasn't for me. I don't understand why you'd make an album with a "raw" sound when recording an album gives you the opportunity to give your listeners something that they couldn't experience live. Because of this production style, I find the tracks to be samey and patience testing.

Well that sucked.

Album was alright. I wasn't blown away by it. Instrumentals sounded like how it's supposed to sound for hard rock. Sounds dated even though it was released in the 90s.

I am not a Neil Young fan. This album did not help improve my feelings about him. Also, I don't need an album full of jam sessions.

Boring dad rock.

I'm learning through this list that I don't really care for Neil Young. Also, Wikipedia lists the genre of this album as “grunge” which…no. Absolutely not.

One word Wednesday: Undistinguished

This ain’t Harvest as Neil goes full grungy garage on this record. Definitely not dinner music. Not my fav Neil Young but he still shows his brilliance

Guitar work was nice. Still can't stand his vocals.

This is exactly the kind of trad-rock that sends me out to sleep.

Not my style. I suppose I can see why some people would like it, but it didn’t seem special to me.

Pretty Sweet, aber slightly bitter - 2

Drunk karaoke

Least favorite so far. Kinda disappointing

Is it better to burn out, than to fade away?

This is boring. Really dislike the long jams at the end of songs. Mansion on the Hill is a highlight.

Thought it was pretty bad but it did grow on me tbh

I just don't care for Neil Young,

This is a country album pretending to be a grunge album, in a very cringe-inducing way. The kind of album your friend's mom would listen to and think about how it's super heavy or edgy, when the "edge" it has feels incredibly fake and shallow. And that's before getting into the fact that half the songs are at least 2+ minutes too long with some of the least interesting guitar solos I've heard. Milquetoast and generally uninspiring

Neil young sucks ass

This album is... fine. It has some solid jams on it, but my god does this album really deserve to be on the list above so many other deserving records? I really like Neil Young, but he is already clearly over-represented in the book. Then to put on a late-career jam record without any major hits? Completely insane. I could see this as a must-listen specifically for Neil Young fans, it certainly represents and interesting return to form in his career, but it is absolutely NOT a must-listen for everyone. Musically this album is a 3/5, but in the context of being a "must hear before you die" it's a 1/5.

I do not like Neil Young on a good day. I have a hard time getting through his classics. That makes this album a really tough venture. This album sounds very much like Neil and a bunch of guys got together on a Saturday afternoon in a garage, started hammering beers and noodling around with instruments and turned it into an album. Nothing within this album is a "classic" or even worthy of a repeated listen. It is just a collection of tracks that are OK, but terribly forgettable.

Nope. Just don’t get Neil Young….voice is just so whiny. Waaaay too many of his albums on this list for my taste. 1

This made my teeth itch and was genuinely difficult to get through. Appalling

Vždy v každom hudobnom časopise chvália N. Y., aj všetky jeho spolupráce ako CSN&Y a všetky možné inkarnacie týchto hudobníkov, ale ja to proste neviem počúvať. Asi preto, že nie som američan...

456/1089 - I like horses as animals but not in the form of a shitty garage band with a whiny singer. This music would be impressive for middle schoolers to do and kinda sad for high schoolers to do.

"no no dude you gotta believe me, the 20th studio album by neil young, THAT'S where it gets good." it's the 20th anniversary of neil banging out the toons and this is what i get. this man has gotta be one of the worst vocalists i've ever heard in my life. it's monotonous dusty country-tinged grunge because i guess he has to have a grunge phase. when am i allowed to invoke my constitutional right to the 8th amendment?

No me gustó

🫩 every song sounds the same and they're all 9+ minutes. how is this album on here

Banalisierter Country dank Rockgitarre. Nö.

Neil Young tries his hand at garage. No Neil, no.

Ploddingly awful rock whinging decades after it even stood a chance of being remotely relevant. Appears to lunge aimlessly between formulaic blues rock shapes and chord changes borrowed from far superior Dylan material.

Really didnt like it. But thats ok

On one hand I'm impressed that someone who really can't sing has released this many albums and is featured on the many 1001 album lists over the years. On the other hand, the same thing can be said about Bob Dylan......

Pleeease, have mercy. No more Neil Young records! There are a select few artists this list choose to include in absurdum, and Neil Youn has joined that group now. This will of course be my subjective view, which is reinforced by the fact that we're approaching the latter part of this list. But this record was so incredibly dull! Everything Neil Young touches isn't gold, ok? Neil's singing felt more labored and borderline out of tune than before. No memorable melodies to latch onto. It just felt like a really unpolished record overall. It is less folk and more distorted and heavy than previous Neil Young records, which works against itself. Overall a really boring record, which might not be as bad as I'm making it out to be. But I really suffered every single minute listening to this. Strong 1.

Electric Neil Young is really the worst Neil Young. How would I know, you ask? Because there are so incredibly many Neil Young records on this list. On this album, his singing really doesn’t work. It feels whiny and out of key. The dad rock influences don’t work in his favor either, and the whole thing just falls flat. The songs drone on for too long, and not a single one really feels like anything special.

Some of the songs are alright but I am not a fan of Neil Young's voice...

Bitchin rock riffs but the same song structure 10x. Neil should stick to acoustic guitars.

this album was ass

No soporto la voz de Neil Young. Lo siento mucho.

I can see why some would be into this, but it's just not my cup of tea

Not for me. 1/5

Still don’t get Neil Young

Really boring album would not listen to again , if this was the only album I could listen to I would stop listening to music ! What a depressing ride it was…not for me

Just kind of same-y, muddy, and downtempo. Blends all together.

I don't like Neil Young. This is my third Neil Young album. It was the worst... So far.

This is so unappealing, uninteresting, long, boring and energy draining. Through almost the entire album I had the feeling that I was listening to the same ideas over and over again. The same rock/country bases, same irritating vocal melodies, same garbage and passionless solos and same rhythms. The songs are obviously not the exact same, but they feel like they were all produced under the same awful blueprint. And to make matters worse, there are 4 songs that surpass the 7 minutes mark. There are a couple of exceptions. 'Farmer John' and 'Mother Earth' are the only songs that do something different. First one has a more alternative rock sound and the last one is basically a choir singing over a guitar. I honestly think these are the best tracks due to them breaking a bit the monotony, but still uninteresting. This was a pain to get through the two times I listened to it.

Wtf am I listening to😂 Based on the album cover, this was the last thing I expected it to sound like Im not finishing this😂

Crazy Horse is Great! Neil Young.... His vocals make me mad. No way this guy became famous sounding like this. I think these songs all had potential if not for him. Music was not interesting enough for me to want to hear the whole thing so I didn't. We've heard something along the lines of this before. I don't think i'm missing out. Also hate the country mix.

It wasn’t gratingly bad so much as relentlessly Neil Young: whining vocals, twangy guitar, and an annoying commitment to the same chord for very long stretches of time. Maybe there’s something to admire in the tenacious mediocrity, but any amount of this sound is more than I personally need.

not my style of music at all, tried bur had to drop

Meh. Not the best Neil Young. Not sure why it is on this list. Country Home and White Line decent songs. Farmer John is a disaster. Almost feels like it is a joke.

Half-assed terrible country rock from a guy who can't sing. No thanks. The kind of terrible junk that makes hipsters swoon. Unbearably bad.

Desperately dull. Almost angeringly so

He really should've hired a singer.

Fuck off, Neil Young. For real, how many Neil Young records are on this thing? This is like the third one I’ve gotten in a week. 1/5

очередной уебищный альбом ничем не отличающийся затянутый скучный хуйня

Lethargic shit

Not my thing at all

I do NOT like Neil young’s voice. And I do not like egregious 8 min songs for every song on an album! The actual music isn’t bad per se but it’s truly nothing special. I do not understand why this album is on the list. This is just reheated leftovers!

Nope I just don’t like Neil Young - his vocal style is somewhere between angry cat and drunk uncle at New Year.

Probably in a minority here, but I’ve never really listened to Neil Young, and wouldn’t be able to name any of his songs off the top of my head. I obviously know the name, but his music is not the type of rock I’ve ever listened to - a little like The Rolling Stones, which the first song on this album reminded me a bit of. God… some of this is painful (currently on Farmer John and boy is it hard on the ears) Had to turn off the final track - was hurting me head. As a bonus I also started to listen to his “Like a Hurricane” as The Mission covered it. I can safely say that I think the Mission version is immeasurably better in all regards. Guess I am not a Neil Young fan.

Not sure if this is essential and also too long.

I hate this. It's melting my mind how boring it is. I understand that this is garage rock epitome, a classic by a legend. But there is no writing, ("give love a chance", "I keep fuckin up". How clever, how novel). And I know and love some of Neil Young's work, he can be incredible if he wants too, don't know why he decided to make no effort here. I get the concept, it's supposed to be jamming and music that is free, but the "improvisation" doesn't work, all the songs are incredibly too long and don't seem to land. They don't go anywhere interesting, they don't feel fresh or coming from the heart, they feel lazy and bloated. In a way, it does succeed in doing what it aimed, it does feel like a jam session, one with your dad making music with his buddies from work. No freshness or originality whatsoever, sounds dated even for the 90's. Wouldn't be here if it hadn't the brand Neil Young. No.

Ngl. DNF. Dad music.

I have enjoyed Neil Young in the past, but his vocals on this record were hard for me to listen to. Best Track: Over and Over

Neil Young has always been more miss than hit and this is sofar into miss teritory you can't even see your way out of it again.

Dont like neil young

Time to pack up and move on Neil. Dreadful

This is the 5th(!) Neil Young album served to me by this list. Please, make it stop. I didn't like ol' Neil after listening to 4 of his other albums and this album did not make a fan out of me either. How many damn spots on this list does Neil Young have? Surely there's better albums out there.

Sick of his voice again. Also, Neil Young appears too much on this list and dropping other 90s albums for this is trash.

Yeah. Ragged indeed.

Album No.8 I believe this is my first impression of Neil Young. Overall I'd describe the album as mediocre or a bit worse. There's no particularly horrid part of it, the vocals could be better but they're sort of tolerable I guess (not as much in certain songs like verses in Over and Over). I didn't like the longer songs as much particularly, like the instrumental section in Country Home. The album wasn't the most engaging. I'd give it a 1.5/5 Favourites: - White Line - Mansion on the Hill - Days that Used to Be

Not a fan. Please no more. Very boring and Neil Young has a bad voice

Probably my least favorite Neil Young album. I don't know, maybe it's because this is album 20 for him, but I think he kinda lost the magic.

I don’t really see the necessity to continuously recycle Neil Young on this listing. There is no variance in the music.

Why the hell is this album on this list? This is not good. It's dull and uninspired, the songs are clumsy and ponderous, there's no energy or excitement and it's a pretentious attempt to appear relevant. And the singing...it's more like caterwauling. Lord, it was hard to listen to this garbage.

This is DULLLLL. Guy can't sing. Every now and again I get an album that really makes me question why I'm even bothering with this list and this is one of them.

I don’t want to have to come down on this album hard. I have a high tolerance for country-rock, I was raised in a home where a lot of it was played. Even if I don’t like it, I can see the appeal in its best offerings. But this is not the genre’s best offering. In fact, the genre isn’t even the big problem here. The problem, unfortunately, is Neil Young’s voice. Neil is HURTING to hit those higher notes. It’s not lovably aged like the later Johnny Cash recordings. It’s not charmingly personable like Leonard Cohen or Yung Lean. It’s just screechy and rough. Neil Young is an incredible musician, but nothing here warrants him attempting to sing his way out of things. From “Over and Over” up through “Love and Only Love”, it is a slog to sift through the singing, only to find some very safe, typical country-rock guitars and drums. It’s not all horrible though! The conviction on “White Line” is fairly compelling and memorable. “Mother Earth (Natural Anthem)” is almost like this cruel teaser at the end of the album, showing that Neil and the band are capable of unique song arrangements and quality performances. But the rest of this album, from tracks 3-9…a slog. I’d go listen to earlier, more iconic Neil Young, if that’s what you’re searching for. And if you want good country rock from the 90’s, just do Garth Brooks. Nothing to see or hear on Ragged Glory here.

Solid guitar riffs and old school rock feeling to the album. It doesn't connect with me though. It feels to slow and I'm not a huge fan of the singers voice in most of the songs.

Oh yet another album by this dreary man.

Wolałbym spędzić resztę życia na bezludnej wyspie mając tylko "Dirt" Alice in Chains, niż jeszcze kiedykolwiek słuchać Neila Younga. Ta płyta konkuruje z The Libertines o status najgorszego doświadczenia muzycznego na całej liście.

Country.

1. country - 1.5 2. uuhite - 1.5 3. up - 0 4. over - 1 5. love - 1 6. john - 0 7. manzion - 1 8. dayz - 1 9. only - 1 10. earth - 1

I don’t like Neil Young as a person. I find him whiny, self important, and incredibly annoying. I like a lot of Neil Young’s music, but this album is not a part of that. Neil Young doing acoustic folk music is very very enjoyable, but Neil Young doing this weird rock offshoot is not something I can bring myself to care for. His half singing half yelling schtick on this record is not good. It’s certainly not the worst album on this list, but it ain’t great. 1*

Listen. I can concede that although Neil Young is a sanctimonious prick, he is also a talented songwriter. Sure. There are at least two Neil Young albums that are reasonable inclusions on this list, one of which we’ve already reviewed. This album is not the other. I got the impression throughout listening of a live band that’s unexpectedly playing very loudly at a restaurant that you showed up to just to eat and spend the entire meal hoping they end their set soon, or at least turn it down. Neil’s trademark sorta-off-key vocal affect does not work on this album. 2/10

You know that guy. The middle aged dad who used to be in a pretty cool band when he was younger, then gave it up for a while. Now he’s got the dusty old guitar down from the loft and is determined to show these darn kids with their modern music what real rock ‘n’ roll is, with proper guitar solos that last 10 minutes and edgy swearing and everything. Oh yes, and he’s also somehow turned into a republican and is startlingly homophobic. Yeah. Fuck that guy.

so my first neil young experience i had heard of him but didn't really know anything about him i think i got unlucky with getting this project first because it was simply not good

ahh neil young, my long-term musical nemesis. its been a while since ive heard an album of his and id be happy for the next while to be even longer NNN

I can not.

I like Neil's early stuff but this sounds like a sad tired rehash. It's 1990 and his time is gone. Has he anything further to say......? For me the answer is no. I've given Harvest and After the Gold Rush a 5* but htis is a 1*

I don’t like country.

Den her plade var nok det værste "grunge" jeg nogensinde har hørt.. hans stemme virkede ekstra træls på den her plade

every song sounds the same and every song sucked balls except for Farmer John, which was funny

Zug schlaf 6:30 …. Myy wife…i like heeeer…and her haaairr…she’s niiiice…

Really uninteresting It sounds really half assed by someone who has no soul. I can't stand it. His voice fucking sucks.

Really didn't like this one. Something about his voice just irks, like how everything is over pronounced. The music itself sounds very average, run of the mill kinda rock.

Shocker of an album. Sounds like they were jamming in a shed. No effort to sing properly and solos don’t sound fluent. Ps I like Neil Young

First impulse: this music is okay After 2 songs hearing Neil Young singing: nope! Not for me.

The music is not terrible but the voice sinks it hard

That's not for me. An hour of bar rock. It's so mild it almost disgusts me. I don't know how this particular album happened to be on this list. Wasted time... 1.5/5.

Wow this was bad.

45-year old man's midlife crisis album. About as shit as it gets, and of course it had to be over an hour long.

If my eardrums are ever subjected to the sound of Neil Young I assure you I will have been restrained in some manner beyond my ability to escape. I will never, EVER, willing listen to the annoying, grating voice of this douche nozzle. Fuck Neil Young now; Fuck Neil Young tomorrow; Fuck Neil Young Forever!

Not on Spotify

Couldn’t listen to it

Hate his voice

Not on spotify

didn't appreciate...

He sounds like he’s in pain and honestly I’m in pain too

Not a fan of Neil Young, avoid his music at all cost. I listened to this against my will but I did like two of the songs, Love to Burn and Over and Over. I have concluded that if anyone else sang his songs, I’d probably be a fan, just can’t get over his voice.

TOOOOO Monotonous! Stupid lyric's! Suitable for addicts!

Did not like this album at all. I like some Neil Young, but not this. The rhymey-rhyming was really, really, really bothering me. His voice felt off, just such a bummer of an album.

Maybe there was a good album here with a different singer, but I cannot stand Neil's voice. It is terrible, especially with this fake-grunge sound that he was going for. I almost turned it off. The music was uninspired and not noteworthy. 1/5.

This is a chore to listen to, with its extremely boring musicality, Neil's less than enjoyable singing, and just the utter "whatever"-ness of it all. I was coasting through most of this album thinking it could scrape by with a two star, but the second (!) ten minute song on the album really broke me, with just a complete lack of joy coming from within. This is music made to appeal to the most trivial of stereotypes from the era, and the fact that this has been lumped in with grunge for years now is a sin. This is dad rock, through and through, and while I absolutely love Young's On the Beach, this is nothing similar to that at all, and is much worse off for it. Maybe its Crazy Horse's fault? I'll have to keep that in mind when listening to his other albums.

Not on Spotify due to politics. Checked it out on YouTube and he can't sing, you're not missing much.

Can't listen to this album on Spotify. 0/5

This was not my favorite album of his.

Not on Spotify

F*ck Neal Young. Will not listen to his crap

Monoton rock som er fullstendig uinteressant for min del.

Oh my god. I knew I wasn't going to like this very much due to the length and the year, but I did not expect it to be this bad. His singing is awful. I usually don't mind his voice, but it sounds so bad here. These songs are super long for no reason. It's just 10 minutes of the same thing over and over. There's no reason for the songs to be so long. It's aggravating. I don't really understand why this is on here. Some of the songs really pissed me off. My favourite song would be White Line I guess because it's the shortest song.

First song was good. Absolutely awful vocals in the middle part of the album. Guitar was cool though

Really not my cup of tea at all.

Fuck neil young taking his shit off spotify. I’ll never forgive him for this. ez 1 star. fuck u neil

Fanns inte på Spotify

Unable to listen due to Mr Young's stance with Spotify

Awful singing over good guitar playing. I didn't make it through the second song.

Not available on Spotify

God Country Home is awful. His voice is terrible. Out of tune. Whiny. Skip. I've made it as far as "over and over" (track 4) and I'm going to have to abandon this. The instrumentals are OK-ish, nothing to write home about, but his voice is absolutely fucking awful. He can't hold a tune any more than I could hold the plums of an enraged bull elephant. This is dismal. People actually like this crap?

Love Neil Young, but I don't love his grunge phase. DNF

The man can't sing, but some of the guitar licks are ok.

This fucker wants his music off Spotify and now I have to jump through hoops to try and find his old ass album? No thanks. Just like people who complain about piracy, if you make it difficult for people to find your content, they either won't or they will pirate. I can't even be bothered to pirate this guy. I don't pay for all these music services so you get a 1-star for being a tool.

Couldn't finish it. Never really enjoyed his voice, but this album seems worse than the others. Tracks too long

Neil, from a fellow Canadian…sorry eh, but yeah, no. I almost didn’t make it through this whole album.

Not on Spotify anymore cos he had a fit about Joe Rogan talking about Covid. Seems like a tear, didn’t listen to it, 1 star, would not return

Could not listen, not on any platform

Snowflake

could not access this album

unable to listen on spotify

I'm just not enjoying this very much. I like a few Neil Young songs so I was thinking I'd be a fan, but no. Unbelievably boring

twas ok 1.5 stars

1 Is this a joke? This sounds like a joke. It sounds like he’s making fun of himself. Also I can’t tell what it wants to be. Is it country? Is it rock? Folk? Some songs even gave me hair/glam metal vibes. The whole thing overstated its welcome from the start and lasted through to the end. Seeing that it came out in 1990 it’s clear that Neil Young was begging to stay relevant but I have to imagine this is what the death rattle of the 80’s sounds like. Favorites include: Mansion on the Hill I guess

Honestly can't stand Neil Young's voice.

Sounds like a cover band? Mom pick em up i hate it here

Country punk this shit ass

I'm glad that I already liked Neil before I heard this. I like that he is willing to experiment with his sound, but that doesn't mean that I am willing to automatically buy into his b.s. like to wonks at RS are prone to do.

Unable to listen to as Neil Young has removed all albums from Spotify!

Didn’t like this one

Neil has some great songs. Unfortunately none were on this album. “Old Man, ❤️ Of Gold, Harvest “come to mind and they would score way higher than this 💿. This album did not show his true talent.

Dull. 2* - 1* for several 10 minute long repetitive songs.

Immediately no.

Neil Young, you are the force that has ruined country music. I cannot stand this. I do not care. I will not listen to these again.

I absolutely hated this album. I was having a bad time on a rail replacement but atm which perhaps as added to this but whatever what fucking irritating music. Each song was wayy too long as well. Eugg
