So So Album with a lacking lead singer imo
Initial Thoughts: Oh! All girl rock band from the 90's? Sign me up! Final Thoughts: Sick. Very garage band energy, where the vibe is very raw. Some nice blends of rock and punk. That being said, not all the songs here were bangers. But when they hit, they hit.

i really like this album. i would say this album is pretty abrasive, but i think it's also pretty fun to listen to. the problem i have with a lot of other abrasive albums is that i don't find them fun to listen to, but i appreciate sleater-kinney's approach to songwriting and the apparent meaning behind their songs. i love that their music does not cater to the typical notion that music made by women needs to be soft, elegant, pretty. their music can be harsh, noisy, aggressive, and that doesn't make it any less womanly. good stuff.
These songs mostly blend together through the swampy guitar chords and drums mixed with the purposefully off-tone guitar licks and wailing off the vocalist. Mixed together it makes for a great song, but lay all of them out together and they’re hard to tell apart. An enjoyable album, but could have used some more range. Only complaint. 4/5

Who says punk can't be musically complex? These songs have great interplay between the guitar riffs and the rhythm section. All three of them lock in — the music is tight. Excellent, high energy album. I really liked it and could see myself loving it with more listens.
This is a good listen. I've always felt like Selater-Kinney holds a really weirdly balanced place in music where they are underrated to the normal everyday person but overrated to the more underground people who seek out more alternative music. Like everytime I go to listen to them I'm like "oh yea, Sleater-Kinney, some artists I really love, really love Sleater-Kinney". And then I listen and I'm like "yea it's good." I think influence was probably a big reason why people hold them in high regards.. I mean they made cool alternative rock music out of Washington state in 1994! Anyways, I liked the album. They are good and many legit music fans love them for a good reason. I love Carrie Brownstein and I feel like I forget sometimes that she's a founding member of the band.

This is okay but I was really hoping for hooks. Every song I'm waiting for the hook. And by the end, there were none.

This album wasn't as memorable as some of the other albums in the same vein, but it still hit the soft spot I have for female-led hard rock. I really liked little babies and the title track; heart factory is also pretty good but I might just be saying that because it's what I'm listening to as I write this.

I don't know what to make of this. On the one hand I was really impressed with the guitar interplay between Carrie and Corin, the riffs are really exciting and there's a real urgency that jumps at you right from the start and it just doesn't let go. I'm writing this and it makes me want to come back to it, but I must admit that I got exhausted by Corin's (or is it Carrie's?) vibrato voice toward the end. I guess that makes it a real punk rock record.
This album is perfect if you feel like listening to a woman yelling in a fan.

Le groupe Sleater-Kinney nous propose ici un tour de leur magasin spécialisé dans les colliers à clous et les laisses de clébards. L'endroit est évidemment miteux, totalement insalubre, la moquette est couverte de bave et de puces. Les Sleater-Kinney nous présentent tour à tour, l'air un peu honteux, quelques objets de leurs collections parmi lesquels des colliers faits en cuir synthétique de basse qualité et de clous qui se détachent facilement, mais aussi des laisses en nylon fragile avec des mousquetons qui se coincent fréquemment. L'odeur nous guidera très vite vers la sortie.
Figurez vous que j'ai étrangement apprecié cet album, pourtant ammené par un groupe de pétasses. L'habit ne fait pas le moine vous en conviendrez.
Shouty US fem punk rock. Strong in most areas TBH. It's just not my thing so find it hard to judge/compare. Washes over me.

Gritty and driving and earnest to the point of undeniable authenticity. The counterpoint-y moments (which seem at times almost like anti-harmonies) are interesting. They get a lot of mileage out of a pretty limited bag of tricks – which adds to the punky vibe. "One More Hour" and "Heart Factory" and "Little Babies" (which maybe inspired Le Tigre's "Hot Topic" and might should be read as ironic) and the dark and intense closer "Jenny" are best cuts. Def prefer S-K (and Le Tigre for that matter) to YYYs, in the category of ultra-hipster and overrated (only slightly so in this case) around the turn of the millennia.

Dig Me Out is the third album by the American rock band Sleater-Kinney. An all-female band created as a rebellion against gender roles and the rock industry's male-dominated hierarchy. This punk rock album was critically acclaimed and is considered the band's breakthrough record. It has a heavier sound than their previous album and this may be a result of the new drummer - Janet Weiss - who would become the band's longest-serving drummer. The vocal interplay between Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein was amazing and has been praised by many. This was an awesome album! It was rockin', but also had moments of beauty where I was just enthralled by the noise the band was able to produce through their instrument and voices. I'm surprised I have never heard of this band before.

I did not like this. It was too shrill. Thing is, it should be up my street. I’ve heard so much about Sleater-Kinney over the years in relation to bands I’ve loved. This was a surprise to me.

Strong start to the album, and ending, but the middle dragged on for me. Hella amazing punk rock / riot grrrrl energy, beautifully dark closing track, but I really have some problems with how the album was mixed, maybe that's just me. 3.5/5
Some noises I can stand....
This is a seminal riot grrrl album and one of the best. Almost every song on here is energetic and ferocious, and the ones that aren’t are great as well. Just an all-around classic for a fan of punk and arguably the best of its subgenre.

One of my favorites. So raw, so catchy. It grabbed me immediately back in the 90s and I revisit it regularly.
I've always wanted to listen to this band, but never could bring myself to actually do it. I wasn't blown away, but I also didn't hate it. If I had heard this maybe 30 years ago, I might have been more into it.
It's a good album with a cool vibe but sounded very much like the Grates in parts and I would rather listen to them.

A bit too raucous for my tastes but this album had its moments
Man, talk about a band that helped define the music of the 90s. This album contains some of the best guitar work of the decade with vocals that just rip your face off. It’s not my favorite of Sleater Kinney’s, but that’s just a compliment to their discography.
I dig the punk feminist energy; I do not dig the incessant warbly vocals expressing that energy.

The singer's voice makes every song sound too similar. She's a cross between Natalie Merchant & Belinda Carlisle trying to sing a mix of punk rock. Not for me but I appreciate the music.

The songs are well-crafted, they are skilled musicians, and I like the lyrics. I just found it difficult to listen to more than a couple of these tracks at a time.

I can see plenty of bands in the late 2000s that would say this album is a massive influence, especially The Grates. Average album in my opinion though.
My musical education started in the nineties, and of course I've been aware of who Sleater-Kinney are since that time, and their importance for the riot grrrrl movement taken in its larger understanding. An old friend of mine is a huge fan of this album, for instance, and I've always loved the reference to the Kinks on its cover and artwork. But oddly enough, before *Dig Me Out* popped on this app, I had never given it the attention it fully deserved. And boy oh boy (or should I say, *girl oh girl*), how excited I am to finally discover it properly. The energy on this LP is just fantastic, earworms abound (whether they come from the melodic guitars or the impassioned vocals), and the tracklisting has the sorts of dynamics I usually love in rock albums. A quick listen might give you the wrong impression that the songs are quite the same, but their respective moods are actually pretty different from each other, Sleater-Kinney always picking up the ball to send it in an unexpected melodic direction from song to song. To be a little more specific... The title track opening the album is as tense as it should be, thanks to its minor chords, "One More Hour"'s vocals are as catchy as its quavers on guitar are enticing, "Heart Factory" is the band's version of a blues cut using nineties quiet-loud-quiet shenanigans to great effects (nice percussion sounds in the background, by the way), "It's Enough" is short and sharp, "Things You Say" has an elated chorus, while groovy and organ-laden "Dance Song '97" foretells what Le Tigre would do a few years later--here referring to another important riot grrrl figure, Kathleen Hannah (more about that later on). As for the last track "Jenny", it aptly closes the proceedings on a moody note that leaves you wanting for more. And these here are just highlights among many others. I don't think there's a single dud in this fantastic record. I rarely give 5 stars for albums I didn't already know by heart on this app. And here I am giving such mark now. So I'm buying this LP right away. And speaking about riot grrrrls, it also gives me the occasion to buy another record by Bikini Kill on the side. Bikini Kill is the first band of Kathleen Hannah, another pivotal figure of that "girl indie punk-rock" movement who would later found Le Tigre, as I said earlier. I've had my eye on that Bikini Kill release for quite some time now, and I can't resist taking it as a companion piece for *Dig Me Out* (at least if I can find a version of it that's cheap enough). So thanks, Dimery and co. sleater kinney always has and does know how to rock. even their minor efforts or “okay” albums are unique and boisterous. this is a great album with a lotta of heart. for a three piece, the guitar tones and space these folks fill is astonishing. it doesn’t deserve to be this big. wallops you in the chest and head. fierce and ferocious, yeehaw.

I have never heard of this band before, but not only was that a mistake, it was a generational failure on my part! Maybe this album sounds so great, because I have listened to it for the first time, so I was was fresh and I didn't know what to expect. But then, I have listened to "Dig Me Out" for the second and third time, and I have to say - it's even better than I thought. One of the songs, "Jenny", instantly went of my 'favourites' list. The punk rock music Sleater-Kinney present here is not exceptional in any sort of a way, it's just solid, very interesting clean melodies, a "dirty" guitar sound and a very solid drums. But what puts the songs together is the vocal - it's simply amazing. You can feel the anger, some sadness, but also real feeling of freedom. It reminds me of Alanis Morissette song "You Oughta Know" - very similar style, full of energy, anger and disappointment. Honestly, even though it doesn't sound great, with a powerful style like that, you can sing about flowers - I would hate them with a passion. Great album!

I really fell for Sleater-Kinney with the One Beat album. I didn't know what it was about, I only knew that a girl I liked liked it, so I listened and then found a bunch of songs grappling with 9/11 and it just had me, all the way. Still love every song on that one. That said, I think the vocals are an acquired taste with SK and if you can acquire that taste, you're good as gold. But if you can't, it's just never gonna work out for you two. I like the vocals, but this one still doesn't hold me in thrall like One Beat. Still, it's a welcome bunch of songs that I might like more if I listened a few more times.
The astringent guitars mesh wonderfully with vocals that bring their own healthy dose of vinegar into the mix. The real MVP though is the drumming; this whole album pulses with a brooding intensity that is provided largely by its motor. Dead good, this.
Realllly liked this. "Heart Factory" and "Jenny" are aces. I just love the guitars in so many of these songs. I think I said this before, but sonically it reminds me so much of Fugazi in places and I literally can't think of another band that I can make that comparison with. I want them to combine forces in a supergroup and I'd like that to happen right now, please.
This has such an attitude that no matter what you do with the album itself it stays with you. You wanna raise a feminist fist and say “fuck the patriarchy”. Every tune is punk in all the right places while possessing some straight banging riffs and biting lyrics.

I've been bad with my 1001 Albums project the last two weeks, so I'll keep this one short: This is girl rock at it's finest. Sleater-Kinney was famous when I was in HS. They were the darlings of college rock. Progressive. This album was merely okay, though.
A step above pure noise. Lyrics don't speak to me although some of the songs might be more enjoyable if they were being sung by someone that sounded like they were having some fun. I do like the guitars here and there but not the production. Best song: Words and Guitar. Yeah, listening to this once was more than enough, but I'm willing to grant this album does belong on the list. 2

A terrific record full of spiky fury and dissonant sound, Corin and Corrie swapping lines and punchy guitars, everything you could want from riot grrrl. Four stars only because The Woods should get the nod over this.
Genres: Punk rock Formed: Olympia, Washington in 1994 Run time: 13 songs, 36 min 34 sec 36 minutes is a short album. I enjoyed the album. It was well written with excellent musicianship. It’s on the list of 1001 albums to listen to before you die. If it came out 20 years earlier, it would be considered revolutionary. While it is a good album, and the group are talented, I wouldn’t personally have included it on this list, but then again most of the albums on the list aren’t that revolutionary or trailblazing. I will probably listen to this and other Sleater-Kinney albums again. My Rating: ***

Only ever listened to Sleater Kinney in passing or on compilation albums but they're clearly very much my thing. Like this a lot.
This is full of energy, pop punk style stuff. Feels a bit short of edge and a little lightweight, plus the vocals are quite grating, there's not enough variety there. Still, a tight 35 minutes, we've had much worse albums. 2/5.

3.5 rounded up for history and nostalgia. Great album that still holds up in emotional range and palette. I actually think some of the more popular songs are my least favorites because the more traditional rock and roll instrumentation has not aged well to my ears and the vocals are really hit or miss on how they connect to me. I think this would still slap live but I don't see myself reaching for most of these songs to listen to at this stage my life when the third wave vibes also feel super dated. except for words and guitar. Therefore, the best songs for me though are turn it on, words and guitar, it's enough, and anything that goes more for personal punk euphoria than anthemic drawling anger. Jenny and the crawling guitar in it is the best of the latter though. What a closer.
i enjoy later sleater-kinney, but tbh a lot of these songs were a bit overwhelming. i like punk, but i need songs to like.... take a break sometimes. hearing the same guitar do the same thing for an entire song is a little tiring. later sleater-kinney does that and i appreciate it anyways hell yea pnw riot grrrl
things you say is literally an anime song and that is prob why its the only track i actually like album is just so loud and I GET IT but its hard to look at it and be like hell yea i got my tea in my comfy seat and BOOM SOUND AND DISSONANCE some of the guitar work on some of the songs are really good. HOWEVER the vocals have this weird vibrato that i cannot get over. i do not like it 2/5

Untitled2 can sml by baiting me like that. I could not tell if he was being genuine or if he thought pointing out that I was listening to ANOTHER punk album sung by two lesbians would make me teehee like a hyena (I did not). For reference, I historically do not enjoy punk and untitled2 has falsely accused me on numerous occasions of dressing like a lesbian. Turns out he were a day behind and was actually referring to Trafalgar, which was sweet because I did really like that album. I have nothing to say about this one though, since all I heard was ear splitting wailing that really did not feel fervent or angsty, just pathetic. God that hurt to admit, because untitled2 is a misogynist and this just gives him more fuel to add to the fire.

Yes. She was better on Portlandia, but this wasn't horrible either. Maybe it's the fact that I'm used to women yelling in my ear or maybe it's the intense feelings of self hatred contained within me, but the raging hemorrhoidal lady in my ear was kinda comforting as I sat at work trying to not fall asleep. Wow. You know usually I love these random albums, kind of like one loves a puppy. It’s fun, it’s exciting, but every now and then it takes a shit on your carpet. This time, the shit was taken inside my ears and lasted 36 minutes too long. Her shaky voice made my skin crawl as I begged and pleaded with father time to make the album end already. Fuck. That. Shit.
Holy shit, it’s the chick from Portlandia! I never knew she was a “musician”. Also, I found a Sleater-Kinney song already in my library and it’s actually somewhat good, unlike this album. Maybe she should stick to acting…

The first album generated that i could not push past, I found the playing repetitive, the vocals absolutely terrible. No melodies. There are simply no redeeming qualities for this style of music.

This album could’ve been really good for me if the vocals did not have an EXCESSIVE amount of vibrato/just shakiness to them. I like to female vocals over hard rock/punk, but this killed it for me. Songs have good grooves though. 4/10
Honest clean fun. My (perhaps uninformed) pov on the Riot Grrl movement is that they were largely uninterested in what anyone else thought about them – their concern was what they thought about themselves. Which is cool.

What happens when you are too late to the grunge party, but decide to go for it, but throw in a little punk so that you don't get accused of being posers who missed the grunge party boat? One star: that's what.
Very strong musically, real guitar prowess and powerful drumming. It’s no mean trick to fill out this much sound with a power trio with no bass. I vacillated on the singing. Tucker’s most common vocal tone wears on me at length, not least because when she’s really shouting it out she tends slightly but consistently flat to my ear. Brownstein is easier to take and really tempers the vocals when they’re singing together but here voice here isn’t strong enough to carry a song. I liked what I heard of the lyrics but would have to spend a lot more time with this to get more of a feel for that. Overall I think I like this as well or better than anything I’ve heard out of the Riot Grrrl scene.

One time album, nice punk music…
First reaction was - what an uncoordinated mess. As this is their debut album I can only hope that they improved with time - well actually they would pretty much have to as getting worse is nigh on impossible and staying the same just highly unlikely. Post punk normally displays the same attitude as punk did, which this does, while demonstrating some degree of technical competence - which this does not. Individually they may have reasonable ability - but the concept of playing as a band seems to have escaped them entirely.
Didn’t like the album. Vocals detract from the punk comp’s.

oh man, Sleater-Kinney... I remember working at a film post-production facility in Seattle in the early 2000s. Almost all my co-workers were uber hipsters (mostly great people but committed to the hipster/filmmaker lifestyle). My boss absolutely worshipped Sleater-Kinney. He was my least favorite person there and maybe colored my impression of them. It's been 20 years so maybe I can give them a fair shake now.... Not bad

I think if I came across this band playing this set live, I would be ecstatic. Really interesting and at times compelling use of two guitars (downtuned) & drums without bass. Some welcome variation in styles and textures - songs like "Buy her candy", "Things you say" and the awesome closer "Jenny" (among others) particularly catching my ear. The B52-esque "Dance Song 97" also appeals. However, applying my "would I come back to listen to this album again" criteria, it's not quite hitting my 4 star threshhold...just a bit more punk angst and angularity across (most of) the set than I'm ever in the mood for. I am, however, looking forward to exploring more of the band's work - a quick look at some recent videos suggests they've evolved in really interesting ways. 3.5 stars for this one.
There’s a lot of this I loved - the opening (title) track is great & sets the tone, although I found some of the rest just a bit repetitive. I liked Turn It On & Words & Guitar, but my favourites were the very poppy Little Babies and Dance Song 97, which I thought was outstanding. A good listen.
I have wanted to like Sleater-Kinney for soooo long, and I think (finally) the penny is dropping for me. Listening to this through three times in a row, and the songs are really starting to click for me. I always thought SK should be right up my alley (punky, impassioned, smart, fiery and fresh), and was disappointed that I didn't get it... but I think it has finally happened. I am listening to it right now, and every song seems awesome and distinct to me, which it didn't earlier today. I love the way they weave their guitars in a way that is quite unique. It is reminiscent of the "guitar weaving' that Keith and Ronnie do in the Stones, but is also not like that at all. I love the punk rock energy of this record, and the short songs. Not a lot of soloing. They really mean what they are presenting. I love that honesty and force. Working in Scratches taught me to look out for women who had something to say. When I'm sick of hearing the same thing over and over (and let's face it, not a lot of blokes have anything fresh and interesting to say in the field of rock and roll), it's worth looking for women, who likely DO have something new and important to say (and a new way to say it). This album is a really good example of that. It took me a little work to understand it, but I'm really glad that I put in the effort. The rewards are great. Thank you, 1001 albums generator, for forcing me to give this record the attention it deserves, and it finally made sense to me today. Only 20-odd years too late, but better late than never.

My general musical opinion of the 90’s is that 90-96 is pretty golden then 97 onwards is a mixed bag. Sleater-Kinney seems to be the one of the better bands of the late 90’s this music sounds so fresh, emotive and primal while sounding like the classic punk bands of the late 70’s. For a more 90’s example Sleater-Kinney sounds like a more primal and less wire-y American elastica. The rawness of the album gives off the illusion that you’re in a sweaty rehearsal room standing right before them playing their instruments it’s surprisingly amazing. Something about this band strikes an exact inner rage, I don’t exactly know how though but it’s a great power the band has on me, and this is my first listen. It’s a 5/5 for me but I could easily see the next person giving this a 1 for the exact reasons why I like them it’s all pure matter of taste.

The "Girl Punk" band Sleater-Kinney. Genre: Punk Rock Reminds me of the old punk-rock Go-Go's before they became a pop band. Singles: ------------------------------- One More Hour Little Babies Overall, I think it has a good sound. I think I'd enjoy it more after I've heard it a few more times. Rating: 2.5+
Mercifully short at 37 minutes long. I was hopeful that I’d be into this band but I just found listening to this album a chore.

In general I like Sleater-Kinney. I've heard a variety of songs from the band, and I think I listened to a full album of a recent release in the last couple of years. The tracks on Dig Me Out seemed new to me. I have a soft spot for this band because of a track or two that I will always listen to, and because of what I think the band is trying to add to the music scene. I will accept any invitation to listen to more material from this band. With that in mind, I think that you need to be somewhat rested in order to take in a Sleater-Kinney record. They have some great, well-constructed music, but it's screamy at the same time. There is a chance that this record could grow on me, but with a first listen I'm rounding up to get to the 4 stars. I may not remember on my own to come back to this album, but it might slip in for a replay because I never get too far away from the circles that include this band.

An absolutely okay listen. Some decent hooks here and there; political message I’m greatly sympathetic to and really good production. And yet, this album quickly became background. The sentiments of the Riot Grrl movement, while of incredible social importance, lose a lot of their edge in favour of lyrical tropes. Yes, their preoccupation with women’s empowerment was vital, but I guess there’s only so many ways you can articulate that without recurring to extremely ham-fisted preaching. Similarly, (I think) Corrin Tucker’s voice sounded totally incongruous on this record. For a genre which advocated sincerity and conviction, her sanitised warbling conveyed anything but that. Overall, a decent record which has aged well in some respects, and poorly in others.

Hated it the first listen but it really grew on me. The dueling guitars are interesting and got a little jangly which I’m all for. Not crazy for the lead singers voice but that easy to move past. Tons of slappers on here.

Love Sleater-Kinney! This is probably in my top three of theirs (behind One Beat and The Woods in that order). But honestly all their records are great. Corin has such a great voice! She and Carrie's guitar interplay is always so exciting and full of energy. Janet is a badass. A shame she's no longer with them. All together, great band.

Love the music, don't like the vocals
Holy shit what a surprise. I've been meaning to get into this band but didn't realize they were this good. I really am a fan of the riot grrrl movement. Tucker's vocals scream energy and emotion, often haunting or filled with ambition or desperation. Drumming is consistent and powerful, not too complex, but adds to the chaos, necessitated by the lack of bass. The guitarists have a post-punk sound to them, making them stand out in the 90s indie sphere. You can hear some grunge influence, such as the finale "Jenny." Songs are fast and short, with an average running time of just a mere 3 minutes. I applaud the feminist lyrics, which use extensive settings and metaphors (nothing obnoxious or meaningless), utilizing both vocalists well to engage the audience. Fan of the whole album, although the formula could get a bit tiresome near the end. Favorites: Dig Me Out, One More Hour, Heart Factory, Words and Guitar, Little Babies, Buy Her Candy, Dance Song 97, Jenny
Power to them for being an influential chick band but to shrill for my likings
If I had to compare them to the far more commercially successful Pac NW band Hole, I'd take Sleater K any day. They have a good energy level and attitude.
The first 2 tracks are catchy. I especially like the second one with it's guitar lick and background vocals. In fact there are good guitar riffs throughout, the intros to some of the songs are Gang-of-4ish and at times the vocal interplay reminds me of the B52s. The lead singer can be screechy. It would have been an epic 1976 release.
I like their energy but after awhile the vocals became quite shouty and annoying. Someone else here mentioned quite aptly that its like your girlfriend yelling at you for an hour. After this album was finished, Spotify continued to play similar riot grrl style music by the Breeders and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and I must say that I enjoyed them much more.

Those monotone vocals suck what little energy this album has out of it. It's especially annoying when they talk over each other. It was too poppy and childish most of the time. Plus, I wouldn't give any riot grrrl anything more than a 2 on principle.
Never heard of them, but I love this asthetic. At some points I felt that the vibrato or whatever it was called was a bit overdone, but otherwise super.
Struggled to really enjoy this one and I'm not sure why. It's got energy but somehow felt like a slog to get through despite being 26 minutes long. Dance Song '97 was my favourite, I guess it stood out from the punkier, scuzzier tracks. Jenny is nice and moody too actually. There is some good stuff here, so I'll round up from 2.5.

Super fun. This album is the reason I need to do this. I've never got around to listening to a full Sleater-Kinney album despite knowing they informed a load of music I like. Some of that uncontrolled vibrato in the vocal annoys me and a love a heavy bass, which is inevitably not ever going to feature in an early SK record. Still, enjoyed and will return.

p805. 1997. 2 stars. Average white girl punk band with nothing to add to what The Runaways and The Go-Gos have done before. In fact it sounds like the Go-Gos. Well done of its kind but not essential listening. Why is this on the list?
This album was difficult to get through. A prime example of how a bad singer can ruin an album. The instrumentals weren’t entirely that bad but it was hard to get past the rough voice. Wouldn’t not re-listen. 2.3/10

I'm also listening to the Rolling Stone top 40 punk albums of all time. This one is number 14 which means it's better than Dookie, Milo Goes to College, 13 Songs, and Enema of the State (spoiler: it's not). I like this fair enough. I really like the instrumentation but I'm not in love with the vocals.

Great punk rock with the occasional bubblegum pop nod thrown in. The warbling vocals can get a little bit much across the whole album, but you can't fault its passion. Best Tracks: Dig Me Out; Words and Guitar; Little Babies
I really enjoyed this - having recently been listening to their "The Center Won't Hold" album and wondering where all the thrashy guitars and waily vocals went, this was an interesting comparison - I just can't believe I missed this the first time around.

Record labels did a horrible job exposing gems like this to me when I was 27 years old. That's the only explanation for why I never heard this until now. What an absolute fucking joy. After 309 albums, I live for moments like this: Finding something new (to me) and immediately falling so hard it that a band becomes a new obsession. This warranted a repeat listen right away, since I didn't want it to end (but props to Spotify for following it up with a banger by The New Pornographers). We could all use a little more Sleater-Kinney in our lives.

i had not heard of this band before but i seem to be getting a sequennce of 90s Indie famale led rock. Some of the tracks are a little manic/ punky and repetitive for me but overall i liked the sound and the vibe, and would go back for more.

Sviđa mi se, daj što više ženskih bendova, i'm up for that. super album, nije na razini tipa eto već spomenutog Lonesome Crowded West i Perfect From Now On, ali je zadovoljavajuć i dobar. vrijedi poslušati.

I am not familiar with SLEATER-KINNEY or their third album DIG ME OUT at all. I’m not into the Riot Grrrl movement, except for the exposure and loving THE SLITS’ CUT from the 1001 Albums Generator. I know THE SLITS are more an inspiration to the Riot Grrrl movement rather than being part of the movement itself. The only other indirect exposure I have with the band prior to listening to DIG ME OUT is that I am aware of and like CARRIE BROWNSTEIN very much as an actor from the television series PORTLANDIA. First new album in a while that I had never heard before and really enjoyed. Dig the riot grrrl’s! Need to listen some more, but this is good stuff.
Wasn’t great, wasn’t terrible. I understand the influence they had, but I felt like it was the same song, with the same dissonance and muddled vocals, track after track.

Pleasantly surprised
The third SK's studio album of 1997. Nice punk rock from 90s. I like the energy raw sound and nice vocals of this album. The cover is an homage to The Kinks' 1965 album The Kink Kontroversy.
A lot of fun, and super energetic and creative. I just wish a lot of the songs were looonger!
I find this album a bit boring. It may be important politically, but from musical point of view it is very standard.

Arg och fantastiskt välspelad punkig rock! Älskar. Underbara riffs, bra sång, bra trummor. Finns egentligen inga svaga spår. Öppningslåtarna, Dig Me Out och One More Hour sätter tonen för albumet, med hur de blandar punkiga verser med melodiska refränger. Dance Song '97 jättebra! Heart Factory har bra refräng, arg och het. Sista låten, Jenny, är lugnare och mer melodisk, fantastiska gitarrer och trummor och magiskt outro. Bästa låt: Jenny.
Their influences are clear but there is a lack of identity. For the most part this is just messy but fleetingly there is a glimmer of cohesion.

I really wasn't a huge fan, taste is subjective I suppose. I found some of the guitar work interesting, but to me it felt like a throwback to 70's punk, which is cool, but the band really didn't seem to bring anything new to the table. Singer is always yelling, even on quiet songs, which became irritating.

There are few things more pleasurable in music than chaotic dissonance cohering into blissful melodic order, and then crumbling back. And that's what Sleater-Kinney do time and time again, and the trick never wears thin.
Verlaine's guitar, Patti's yodel, Joey/Dee Dee/Tommy/Johnny's/'s pithiness, Thurston/Ranaldo/Gordon's turbulence. It's amazing when a band can wear their influences so proudly, yet still sound utterly unique. Every song is an anthem to be played while the world collapses, and during its reconstruction.
Live this album such energy and passion. And the songs are great. The high-pitched, warbling vocal style is an acquired taste, but one that I have acquired and now crave. These women rock with enthusiasm and they have the chops...especially the drums which are exemplary. Can sound thin due to the 2 guitar no bass set up but never shrill, I can say as a bass player and bass lover that I don't miss it. 4 🌟
