Enjoyable Sunday bantaloons

60s flower power rock

Jaunty

60s sound, with some pop songs that you never knew the artist of, until now.

"How's the weather? Whether or not, we're together" (How can I be sure) Volviendo después del parón con un disco ligerito.

Enjoyed it. Struggled with the rating - there are a couple of bangers but also some filler. A high 3 I think (I've been too generous this week).

60s vibes, was ok. Couple of good tunes on there

Cool vibes

Fun psychedelic pop, nothing amazing but pleasant and nice . Loved grooving, how can I be sure, and opening track.

Enjoyable, you can really get a sense from this band's move from early 60s blue eyed soul/doo wop to a more psychedelic sound. Interesting.

Eh. Good. Fine. Average. Not my generation.

Really dig it. Not a great album top to bottom but you can't go wrong with some solid Soul. "Groovin" is one of the all time great songs.

I thought this was a fun listen - has some of that doe eyed earnestness of some of the music of 60's. Dipping their toes into phychadelic rock, which I could have used more of.

Early folk rock. I dig it

V chill and new for me

A decent outing. Very much 60's pop music. Is a very pleasant album to listen to, music and most of the lyrics, maintains its upbeat personality. Songs like "you better run" explore a more psychedelic sound but still fit well with the album. Also contains their 'biggest' hit "groovin'" which is a great song and is real groovy song.

Not bad. Groovin is obviously the best song on the album.

Today I'm listening to Groovin' by the Young Rascals. It's all very familiar, and I'm enjoying the music and like I've said many times before - context is nice. Of course I've heard 'Groovin' and "How can you be sure" many times on the radio and in popular culture. These songs aren't created in a vacuum, so it's interesting to see how a song fits in within the context of a large number of songs. I've always been more interested in the full album as a way to understand an artist. Singles are lovely and all, but I would like to know where they originally came from. I'm currently listening to 'A Place in the Sun' and I definitely prefer the original - but they bring some soul to it and do a decent cover. It makes me want to immediately find the Stevie song and give it a listen again. Listening to these albums is great because of the roads and rabbit holes it sends me down trying to figure out how popular music came to be. Oh Stevie Wonder you have made my morning better. And I can now imagine a place in the sun, and there is hope for everyone.

Another style of music I just don't care for. It's not bad, but not for me. Does nothing.

Cool music. I took into account how old it was in the rating.

This was really fun for about 15-20 minutes!

This was a surprisingly fun time.

Nice, easy listen. Recognized some parts from recent samples (poolside)

It feels weird to describe a Gold selling record with multiple Top 10 hits as a hidden gem, but that's what this is to me, having never heard of this before.

Eh....

was fine, did not dislike.

Groovy Baby

Lasi viskiä, kesäinen niitty ja taivaalle tuijottelua-musiikkia.

Didn’t realize they did the original of that Pat Benatar song

Back in the day I thought this band was sappy. Still feel that except for the great Groovin (life would be ecstasy, you and me endlessly groovin'....superb lyric) and How Can I Be Sure and You Better Run. My favorite is missing: I Ain't Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore. Felix P great singer just needs better back up and more better songs

Truly a solid record, but nothing groundbreaking. Not quite sure how this group stands out to the rest of the similar sounding bands of the era. 3.5.

Kako je dobre muzike bilo u '67, ovo zvuči smiješno u poređenju.

Late 60s sugar pop

When I read the blurb for this album on the streaming service, it mentioned that this album where The Young Rascals started dipping their toes into psychedelia. I immediately tensed up and gritted my teeth as I hit play, but I didn't seem to find too much of that while listening. It felt poppy in a way that I was anticipating, given the time, and the horns felt really bright and were a welcome touch. As a whole, though, this just didn't grab me. It wasn't bad, but I just didn't care about any of it. Oh well.

Disco normalito de los 60s, estuvo bien.

-so this album is by no means “bad” but i find it very uninspired and lacking in creativity. there was certainly a “sound” that most bands had in the 60s and that’s great, but this just feels like a collection of all those tropes regurgitated to be really palatable. in other words, a bit of a ripoff. don’t get me started on the soul stuff -that being said, as i mentioned, not bad. if this were the only album i’d ever heard from the 60s i’d probably love it -Favorites: Find Somebody, Groovin’

fuckin hippie mfs. nah mentira, it was just fine. me gustó el title track

We have The Beatles at home. Fav tracks: Find Somebody,

Another boring psychedelic 60s album. Next, please. Favorite Track: A Place in the Sun

Ok. ★★

Old school soul tunes in the same era of the Monkeys maybe? Not really my cup of tea, but the vocal harmonies are nice. Happy subject matter. 2.4/5.0

It's... fine?

Not really my thing but didn't hate it either

Nothing exciting or notable here. Just a collection of average songs that lack originality.

Trite, saccharine 60s pop with slight "psychedelic" tendencies. Not sure why this is on the generator, seems like there were a ton of bands in this vein and nothing on this album is very notable musically. I do appreciate that they were a bunch of Italian guys from NJ though, represent fellas. 2/5.

We already have every Beatles record on this list, do we really need every Beatles rip off act too? It’s fine, I guess. Inoffensive, but I didn’t need to hear this before I die.

"Mom can we get the Beatles on the way?" "We have the Beatles at home"

Kind of like a mid 60s album. Not much else. A few hits otherwise kind of blah.

Groovin is a right track 👌 dynamite. The music and the voice are great in this album, but I just don’t rate the songs. Simple as

Bien normal

1.5 One of the most mediocre, unextraordinary albums I’ve heard for this project. Nothing interesting going on, no good voices, no interesting lyrics, nothing new. Idk what reason could justify this being here. At least it’s short. I’ll forget this whole album by tomorrow.

Meh. Early Beatles-inspired rock. Nothing terrible, yet entirely forgettable.

Fine but nothing memorable

Decent music from the 1960s, so I’m giving this album 2 stars…

Cursed album cover. Music itself isn’t so bad. Kinda mildly groovy, nuts and bolts 60s pop soul stuff. Nothing too special. It hits initially like Zombies Odessey & Oracle if the music was a lot more average and inessential - Clodessy and Snoracle. Something with better songs and similarly cartoony but non-cursed album artwork would be The Best Of The Lovin’ Spoonful also issued in 1967. 3 stars minus 1 for the artwork.

Album #86: Groovin’ - The Young Rascals Genre (W): Blue-eyed soul, psychedelic pop, psychedelic soul, garage rock Singles: You Better Run / Love is a Beautiful Thing, Groovin’ / Sueño, A Girl Like You / It’s Love, How Can I Be Sure / I’m So Happy Now I have listened to this album once before. Thoughts?: An unremarkable, generic and boring album with one amazing song on it. Sounds like a basic soul band, but Groovin’ is such a gorgeous song. Favorite songs: Groovin’, You Better Run,

It was okay. There were a couple tracks I'd call good, but the rest for forgettable, useful to set a movie scene to the era, but nothing that ages well as something to continue listening to 60 years later.

This album was all over the place, and I can't say it worked for me. The variety of styles just makes it seem disjointed. 2.2

It was a nice album not to much going on felt a bit repetitive. Also went through ALOT of relationship statuses during that

Technically it's fine and inoffensive. Taken in the scheme of 1966 it's poor. Why listen to this when you have Beatles and the Stones, The Who, Love, Buffalo Springfield and The Monkees!!

There’s better albums to dedicate your time too. They sound too similar to so many other artists that do it better. The title track, Groovin’, is a banger, but that’s about it

I knew a song here but was shocked these guys were as big as they were. I guess is heard of them but never listened. Mostly old fashioned but a little bit of 60s psychedelia mixed in.

Og på How Can I Be Sure, Nina Simone.

Okay now this feels dated, not bad but not particularly strong. Gives off "trying to be like the Beatles" vibes. Not an album I had a bad time with either, but just nothing grabbed me about it. Not a name that has stuck around.

Some nice guitar work and general vibe but nothing very memorable.

I can't imagine a time where this album was ever fresh or interesting. It might be a good example of a very specific type of music that was popular in the 60's, but it is incredibly safe. Not a fan.

nem bom, nem horrível. 1,5/5.

Mais um album completamente comum dessa lista

Psychedelic Soul-Pop from the mid 1960s, which sounds a bit dated now. I remember their hits single "Groovin'", and I vaguely remember "How Can I Be Sure".

A bit too old for me

60s rock, ok. Meh! 🫤

Another perfectly fine album but I don't know why deserves to be on this list. Feels kind of like a Temu Beatles band. I was originally going to give a three for this, but I'm going to drop it down to a two for its monotony and boredom.

de verkar vilja vara lite allt möjligt..

Absolutely unexceptional sixties pop; no reason for this to be on this list. Title track is pretty decent though.

There are some cool guitar riffs on this but the rest sounds like cheesy “oldies” pop to me

I don't really see what this is doing on the list. It's not *bad*, it's just not *good*.

Great title track, the rest is decent but unremarkable.

It's never been so hard to give a rating. Immediately after listening to the album, I completely forgot what I was listening to.

A few decent and interesting singles plus a whole okay run-of-the-mill '60s rock-filler album to listen to if you'd like to I wouldn't

2.5⭐️/5 03.05.2026

Really only here for Groovin' although You Better Run kinda rocks too

Boring album. Couldn’t tell you if it was the 60s or 70s but it definitely was not groovin on a Sunday afternoon

I was shocked to learn that Groovin was originally sung by a bunch of white guys. Or that Pat Benatar had a hit from covering one of their songs. It was an ok album.

Not that memorable.

Feels like someone took all that is good about jazz, threw that in the trash, and then brought in some of that new fangled rock stuff, and found some earnest white boys to front the whole thing.

i was not groovin to this album. Would I listen again: no Deserves to be on this list: no 2.2

Fun listen, but hardly a standout.

This is #day554 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… let's go groovin' on a Friday night, shall we? I don't find this record very groovy. Actually, it's not groovy at all. Well, maybe just a tad bit. So, I guess, no groovin' then? This is a 2 out of 5. Looking forward to #day555.

I don't want to listen to the Beatles and this isn't what I meant

Not for me.

Did people forget about the 60’s because of all the drugs it just because so much of the music was forgettable? That was mean, this album is fine but maybe just not for me. I apologize for my sass.

Ei tää nyt oikeen lähteny.

Meh. Forgettable.

Unmemorable, sorry

60’s equivalent of landfill indie, pretty bland, inoffensive but also unmemorable. Felt like library music for 60s nostalgia shows. Some cool instrumentation on the sitar (obviously) and the flute. 2.0/5.0 Best Song: the last one whatever that was called

I liked the first song and the last song. Everything in-between was immensely mid. It wasn't a bad album, wasn't a good album, it was just an album.

Pretty mediocre 60s pop

Yeah, this is not an essential album. For anyone. In any genre. The Wikipedia entry says volumes about how stupid an album's inclusion is, and this one is on the wrong end of the line. It's not terrible, but it is a nothing burger album. Genuinely, who needs to hear this album by a long-forgotten band with little significance in even their musical era? Despite this, it's passable, and I have heard worse things from the generator(looking at you, U2's All That You Can't Leave Behind, you steaming shit pile). So I guess it's not totally deserving of a 1, but it's not quite good enough to justify a 3. So a 2 it is.

Poorer version of the Beatles

It was similar to The Zombies' album but I was not in the mood for it this time. It felt lightweight and insufferably youthful. I guess, the dumb album cover might have just repelled me completely.

Not a lot to get excited about here.

Bang average, I was so happy when the algorithm gave me some Monkees after this as if to say "now this is what they were trying for". Very dull. The exception is the title track which is sublime, comes out of nowhere and I had to check it wasn't a cover version.

Maybe the most middle of the road boring average 60s album I've ever heard. Sounds like they heard a single Beatles song, a Byrds song and a Beach Boys song and had to make a whole album. Not really anything unique about this at all. There's some okay brass strings and reverbs and stuff on here, but it just lacks any charisma. Favourite songs: none stood out really. Overall around 4/10

I was super skeptical, after all the 70s rock I was ready for a break and it didn’t seem like an album from the 60s would be that. The first opening vocals really had me though. I will say this is definitely “groovy” I love that there is an Italian version of “groovin”

Thoughts before listening: 60s era pop rock group. Seems more like a label trying to capitalize on the hippie movement than an actual band with merit, but maybe I'm wrong on that. Review: So it seems that the Young Rascals are actually in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. That tells me that they were at least critically respected in their time and were more than just a marketing ploy. That being said, I am not really hearing much here to grab my attention. I mean its perfectly fine pop rock, but there just isn't anything really interesting happening here outside of some catchy melodies. I'll give this 2-stars.

Typical folk pop from the 60s

Hey Copilot - write me a 60s / 70s style guitar based album, don't make the tracks too memorable though....

Man was that boring.

Some good tracks, wtf is this cover art

Favourite Songs: You Better Run

Exactly what I expected. Nothing more, nothing less. Sweet 60s pop

Turhan pirteetä näihin fiiliksiin mutta iha jees 2/5

It’s got a few moments but sounds really stale to me. It just doesn’t have a place in 2025 other than as a historical document.

The Monkees were already the American answer to the Beatles. These guys were the Monkees 2 (or 3, or 4, etc.). They were probably the most famous band in the their neighborhood at least.

This was like the most cliche 60s pop/rock album ever. Almost parody level. It wasn’t too bad, it just sounded very anonymous.

- feels like something Starlord would listen to - feels like something Starlord would listen to - not really my kind of music, and I’m curious how it ended up on this list - was told that it sounds a lot like other music that existed at the time, so in the same vain as above, I’m curious what makes this album so special

Quite confident this will be forgettable psych pop

An oldie and kinda good.

Misleading title, I wasn't grooving much to it. Most songs are kinda sleepy and the psychedelic sounds are quite bad. Kinda like The Monkees but even less interesting.

The Beatles at home

I only know a couple of songs by The Young Rascals ("Groovin'" and "Good Lovin'"), and thankfully, one of those happens to be on this album. I've had some pretty mixed feelings about sixties psychedelic music, so it's a coin flip as to whether or not I'm going to enjoy this album. Time to get groovin'! Well, I didn't do much groovin' to this album. There were some songs that were okay, but most of this album was really boring to me. Musically, I didn't think there was really anything noteworthy on this album. The guitars, drums, and vocals were all fine, but I didn't think The Rascals did anything particularly noteworthy or unique when it came to their musicianship. I did like the horns on the first couple of songs, and I liked the keyboards and flute on "It's Love," but other than that, I just wasn't attached to anything on here. I didn't care for most of the lyrics on this album either; most of these songs felt like generic sixties pop songs about love, and I didn't think these lyrics had anything interesting to say. The title track was pretty good though, as was the aforementioned "It's Love," but they couldn't do enough on their own to lift this album above two stars. Sorry Rascals, but when it comes to the sixties, there are just far better options than you guys.

No. 8 It is in fact very groovy, very the beatles very the beach boys. The guitar is guitarring. But i would not listen this constantly.

Some completely nice and enjoyable songs here and there but lack of any sense of identity makes it very forgettable, high 2 Fav song: Place in the Sun

Too 1960s for me - it hasn't really aged well at all!

Was fine. Classic 60's rock, inoffensive and 90% of the time about love. Good vocals and compositions. Nothing outstanding though.

Groovin'

What the heck is this Aoty score 67/100 Really expecting nothing from this Super boring stuff, really no reason to ever put this on

I think they should've put more compression on the guitar on "Find somebody" I basically don't remember a single song a day after listening

best part of this album is the cover art i think 2/5

Not for me

A bit dull, but not that bad. 5/10

Never been a great fan sixties pop music, with the exemption of the later records of The Beatles, but this doesn't even come close. Never heard of this band either, or knew any of the band's hits. I guess they weren't that big on the other side of the Atlantic ocean. Psychedelic sixties pop, blue-eyed soul, yes, but this has done better by other artists of that time. A star for the title track, a song that completely fits its name, but other than that, nothing new under the sun. Wouldn't be my choice for a place in this list, but hey, that's what we're in for! 2/5

Okish.

"We have the Beatles at home."

People always say not to judge a book by its cover, and while this rings true, you're still gonna see the cover first, and the cover for Groovin' is *uniquely* ugly. And unfortunately, The Young Rascals can't really outrun this bad start. We're following the rough blueprint The Beatles laid out here, and while The Young Rascals escape to uncharted territory on several songs here, the results are mixed. Something struck here, and I realized I think a lot of these songs sound like sitcom themes, which doesn't bode well. Honestly, the best tracks usually lean into gimmicks, as well as psych, which makes the gimmicks go down a little smoother. Some songs here I actually kind of like are How Can I Be Sure, Groovin', I Don't Love You Anymore, You Better Run, and A Place In The Sun. These all have at least something going for them that keeps me happy. However, the rest of this is the "obnoxious, saccharine hippy music" side of psych. There just isn't much here to distinguish The Young Rascals from their peers, and what is here is usually not that good. There's a couple of moments that save this from a 1, but I just don't like this thing.

Ranging from pointless to annoying, this album was not for me.

Good, but didn’t do much for me.

- Mom can we get The Beatles? - No but we have The Beatles at home. The Beatles at home:

Title song a classic. The rest felt like a so so collection of show tunes

Pretty mid. Nothing memorable but I did recognize the title track.

Problem is, I'm just not into it Groovin is an ok single and title track Funny to listen to an album in mono

Ehhh... I don't hate it but there was so much other music being made in 1967 that I am so much more interested in. Definitely not something anyone needs to hear before they die IMO. I didn't know until today that they wrote and originally performed "You Better Run," the Benatar cover of which I also learned was the second video ever shown on MTV.

So very, very 60s. Thank God for those bands that pushed us beyond trite, inoffensive platitudes in sung poetry

Groovin' was fine, but just sounds like 60's pop

Whatever. 2.65

I didn't feel it was that remarkable, but there was a couple of songs that I liked, it was okay

Gear: Grado Hemp Artwork: 🖍️👌🤨 Production: 🔊🔇😐 Music: 🔃6️⃣0️⃣ Rating: 👌(👌)/5

Tut niemandem weh

Felt like a copy of The Beatles and/or The Kinks. Quite uninspired though the harmonic playing on "Groovy" was quite nice. I have difficulty motivating why you would listen to this compared to many other good 60s records on this list.

I left my wallet in El Segundo sample!! Worth 2 stars at least for that. Doesn't quite have the same level of interest as A Tribe Called Quest have for me though.

Nothing wrong with it, but it didn’t stand out to me. Title track is good and Stevie wonder cover is good

Interesting and talented band I would like to check out more but this particular album would not be in my top 1001.

Pop pap.

This album is very dull, very standard, very uninteresting, very safe pop rock album. The more listenings I gave it to, the more I hated it. The only elements that got my attention were the horns in 'A Girl Like You' and 'I'm So Happy Now'; the flamenco intro to 'Sueno', which last only just 10 sencods before starting to play another plain song; and the distortion of the guitars in 'You Better Run' makes the song stand out from the rest and gives it a bit of attitude. I'm giving it 2 stars, as in my last two listenings I was doing a lot of skips. Finally, I want to rant a little bit about these type of records in this list. I don't get it. They feel like pure filler. These albums that clearly didn't do anything to push forward the music boundaries are the ones that makes me hate this list the most. Not the album, but the list.

Dear god, the 1960s were full of albums like this, they're a bit much to be honest. A pain to listen to.

2/5. The genre is called blue-eyed soul and that feels weird, I don't know why. And I appreciate them writing their own works, compared to the Byrds for the most part. It just didn't hit me, like in a playlist, one song here could be good but a whole album felt a little tired by the end. I wouldn't even say it's bad but it's not for me. Best Song: How Can I Be Sure, Groovin, A Girl Like You

A pleasant but ultimately underwhelming entry in the rich tapestry of 1967’s musical landscape. You Better Run stands head and shoulders above anything else on the album.

Inoffensive background noise. Nothing you have to listen to before you die. 2.4.

Another band trying to be the Beatles. Personal enjoyment: 2/5 Relevance to this list: 1/5

It’s fine for what it is. A couple of songs I actually like. But the rest comes across as fairly derivative for the time. 2.5/5

Underwhelming bland Beatles wannabes. Favorite songs: You Better Run, Groovin', A Place in the Sun, I'm So Happy Now Least favorite songs: How Can I Be Sure 2/5

Not terrible - - but would I ever listen to this again? No

This was good. It had that oldies feel mixed with a little bit of psychedelia. I don’t know that I would ever go back to it, but it was fine

Boring. Upbeat. But boring. 2/5

The album starts fairly middle of the road inoffensive 60s pop rock and then you reach Sueno. Sueno suddenly introduces flamenco stylings, but this still doesn’t lift the overall album from mundanity. Groovin is however a great song. Overall the album is a pleasant enough snapshot of the era but nothing to write home about.

I genuinely could not tell you anything about this album, except I don’t think I hated it?

This is one of those albums where I just have no strong opinions. It was fine. I wouldn't turn it off if it was playing in the background, but I'm pretty sure it has left absolutely no impression (positive or negative). So: 2/5

2 sterne

Meh, its ok but it blends in with too much of the 60s not-beatles

To me, this just sounded like average commercial pop from the ’60s. While it’s clearly a smooth blend of soul, sunshine pop, and light psychedelia, it ultimately felt too bland for my taste. Nothing really grabbed me, and it’s not something I see myself returning to in the future.

"We have the Beatles at home"

It's definitely music

Harmless 60s pop but did nothing for me

Groovy

Not great, not terrible, not memorable

It was fine, but hardly memorable and I didn't hear anything which made me think it was amongst the finest or most influential albums of all time.

Find Somebody.

Had a couple songs I recognized but a very sub par record.

Not for me

It is pretty groovin' so it does what it says on the tin. It's also uneven with some early 1960s sounding tracks, easy listening, soul, and psychedelic pop. Pleasant enough but the first time I've asked: why is this included in the list? The Zombies, the Easybeats, and, heck, The Monkees all did this better.

Niet echt mijn soort muziek.

A Girl Like You and Groovin' are nice songs that still feel relevant. The rest of this feels very much like the mid 60s early rock album that it is. A bit dusty, but not without its pleasures.

Possibly the worst album cover I've ever seen. I would have been embarrassed to have had to pick this up and walk over to the cashier in a record store. I think I would have had to have hidden it under another album or something. The music isn't quite as bad, but was lacklustre. There's one big hit, which last all of two and a half minutes, and everything else sounds like a cross between The Beatles and The Stones. Tawdry two points.

60s vibes. The flute comes out for the last 2 songs of the album. Of its time.

One or two songs in thinking it wasn’t too bad but it was very repetitive and dated.

Unmemorable Psychedelic Rock. Unfortunately not meant to be listened to on headphones, because the complete switch between left and right ear for the guitar is super unpleasant.

The name, year, album cover, and genre had me coming into this with a good amount of prejudice, but ya know what? It was just fine.

Other than the title track, this album is forgettable. It sounds like a pale imitation of Motown combined with some lousy folk music. The songs are spent after one minute and don't go anywhere else. I'm annoyed before the end of each one. Guess you had to be there.

easy listening

completely forgettable. had to be there?

Never heard of this band so this is gonna be interesting. The cover is certainly something... A Girl Like You: ooh a little jazzy with the brass and some harmonies. pretty nice. 4/5 Find Somebody: This is very Beatles core ngl with the guitar it reminds me of ticket to ride. I don't love it just because I can't really hear the vocals so 2/5 I'm so Happy Now: ooo crescendo to start pretty nice honestly 3/5 Sueno: Wow a little spanish to start fancy. I quite like this honestly. 4/5 How Can I Be Sure?: A little slower. Nice. A little boring. 3/5 Groovin': Wow title track. Some harmonies. Nice. 3/5 If You Knew: Harmonies. A little repetitive. Don't love it so 2/5 I Don't Love You Anymore: Typical 60s stuff tbf so 2/5 You Better Run: okay going off the title this is kinda creepy sort of run for your life. Nah I don't like it 1/5 A Place In The Sun: so repetitive and kinda boring 2/5 It's Love: It's alright. I don't love it but don't hate it. Pretty average. The wailing in the back doesn't do much for me 2/5 Overall: 2/5.

Just all feels a bit vanilla pop soul really. There was a vague outbreak of psyche on track 2, and a nice riff on ‘You Better Run’, but otherwise all very uninteresting.

Not a fan of British invasion music. This sounded relatively not bad for this genre, but I also did not like the poor audio balancing

Had me yawning

Nothing exciting

Sometimes this wants to rock, but then it goes back to sounding like showtune-influenced soft rock with no balls and no personality. I like 15% of this.

I agree with others not sure why this is on the list

Was expecting something really modern for some reason, but it's so not. Just an album of basic 60's pop. Nothing spectacular 2

The only reason this doesn’t get a 1 star from me is because I’ve remembered just how bad the albums are that swim in the cesspit that is my 1 ratings. This just manages to keep its nostrils above the floaters. It’s a very low 2 from me. I have also learnt a new genre label, blue-eyed soul. So there is that I guess.

There is so much to like on this record, but there is so much to dislike too.the first two and last two songs were great. The highlight was most definitely 'Find Somebody'. The rest was ok and kept my toe tapping and head swaying in a Stevie Wonder style. This is all well and good at home, but on a train in the way to see my favourite band? Maybe not. The only thing stopping me giving this a 3 star rating is the fact I cave my friends favourite bands record a 4 and he will be cross with me. So it will have to be a mid 2.

Incredibly bland

Is every album from the 60s in here or something? Terminally dull with no redeeming qualities

This is some late 60s vibes in a bottle. “Groovin” is a great song, but I have been overexposed. It wasn’t until track 9 “you better run” that I felt much of anything when listening to this album.

Surprisingly good. I thought this would be just another Beau Brummels band with a boring 60s-folk sound, forgettable and unenjoyable, but it was actually much better than expected, even though there was only one standout track in my opinion.

Title track is fun

Too dated to decide if it was influential. Just 60s pop, nothing special. 2

5.5/10. This is so forgettable. "1,001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die" has so many boring rock albums from the 1960's. I want more crazy shit like "Gris-Gris" on here!

OK. Sure. At least it's not another 90 electronic album. Equally as unnecessary though.

2.5 - Meh

What the hell is this album cover lmao don't hate it, but it just isn't doing much for me. Seems like inoffensive wedding music

Fell under the same vibes and got lost within the very popular zombies/turtles at the time. It was ok probably wouldn't listen again

The hit title on this was just as boring as the rest of the album.

Completely forgettable 5/10

The Beach Boys sans latent schizophrenia? Whoever mixed Find Somebody should be shot against a post. Anyway, the rest of this album was pretty forgettable. Considering the short length, I gave this a few spins and while it's a fun listen and very easy-going background music I could not look you in the eye and honestly say I remember a single song off this album.

Perhaps because we are in the middle of buying a house and moving stuff down south, my brain had no space for this - it didn’t resonate in the slightest - trusting I’ll learn something from you guys through your comments

It doesn't sound like Beatles to me. If anything, I'd say it's inspired by reggae, although it sounds nothing like it. Much loud and annoying, but fine really

Music like this is like being molested. You don't like a bit of it even if you find yourself subconsciously tapping your foot along to the rhythm at times. At least you're happy it'll be over in a short time

Not a lot to say about this one, didn’t particularly impress me but wasn’t poorly made either. Either I’m missing a historical element to this album or it’s just one of those albums you either get or you don’t. Just feels like it was put in here out of favour, which is fine, it’s not my book/list lol. 2.5/5

I know the name and recognized their sound and the huge hit "Groovin'". Funny they call out "How Can I Be Sure" on the cover when that was a minor hit for them. The only song I enjoyed other than "Groovin'" was "You Better Run". Not sure how this makes the Top 1001, I didn't find much about it unique. It had a Motown production quality with vanilla radio friendly songs but nothing to make it stand out or for me to ever want to listen to it again. This one completely missed the mark for me. Aside from the one mega-hit this just didn't have the muscle, vocals, staying power or musicianship to make such a prestigious list. It was an incredibly boring album. 2 stars.

Its fine

Generic 60s

Just a bit boring

Not for me. 1 recognizable song.

Boring

Never heard of this band. Based on the artwork and the year, I am really not looking forward to this. Don’t love it. Sounds like an episode of The Brady Bunch.

A few ok songs but too many hokey cornballs that overshadowed anything good here. The "big hit" called out on the album cover is actually terrible, the only thing worse is the cover art itself, followed closely by the band name. Nothing memorable so not sure why it makes the list, at least it was short. 1.5.

A very digestible 34 min album. Nothing great but nothing to complain about either. Although this album doesn't feature the top track "Good Loving" by these young rascals, it does have a few good tunes, "Groovin" being the next big hit. Not much praise or slam from me here...2.0.

Relatively plain and forgettable. I wouldn't call it bad but overall pretty empty. I can't see any reason I needed to hear this before I died. I came out of this listen pretty blank with little to say about which I guess is an indictment in itself. 1.81 stars

Mostly inoffensive tracks. It's fine other than the guitar on Find Somebody.

Thanksgiving Day = Mostly short songs, 35 minutes. The hits are okay, other parts sound dated.

Pretty boring overall

found this grating and annoying and felt that its only relevance was its inclusion on this list and maybe it deserves to be forgotten to time !

Eh, I find this sort of 60s psychedelic rock a bit tedious

Milquetoast sixties pop rock/blue-eyed soul. Both things I like but I did not find this to be memorable in any way, shape or form.

Standard 60s album. The most, even.

Bits and pieces of interest but nothing that made me feel it needed to be on this list.

If by "groovy" they meant "bland, unobtrusive and utterly inoffensive", they were spot on.

Leer volwassen vocabulaire ofzo amice

Like a even more chill bee gees

Well, that uhhhhh... sure was Extremely Sixties. Like, I'm not convinced I disliked it per se, but wow, yeah (also it should've got to that last track sooner).

This is perfectly serviceable for what it is, very well-produced, and exactly the sort of thing that just gets my back up - sorry, it's just not for me. Groovin' (the track) is good though, and brings back summer memories of oldies radio stations, but the rest is just... mneh. Faves: Groovin'; You Better Run

This exists in dome dort of musical limbo. It's not blue eyed soul, it's not psych-blues or rock. It's basically trash pop of the time

It’s fine. Mostly forgettable.

Middling 60s pop; I've heard lots of other groups do this sort of thing better. For so-called ‘rascals’ there wasn’t much mischief or cheeky humour - it was all a bit placid.

How many stars can you dock for a horrible album cover? The sound is alright but felt pretty average

The Jizzles. Who fucking cares. I'm not writing anything about this. Next.

Very strange album cover. The music just sounds like typical 60s pop. Nothing groundbreaking. Highlights: Groovin'

Very painful to listen to. Seems like an industry blow off of songs trying to capture the essence of much better artists like The Beatles and Burt Bacharach. Groovin’ and A Girl Like You are at least musically pleasant. But that drone on Find Somebody made me want to scratch my eyes out. I would not recommend this band.

I recognised one songs . Some of the songs almost sound like they should be in a musical . Not a huge fan

Sounds like a knock off from various influences, like The Beatles, Zombies and Motown, without really meshing them into anything original. Inoffensive but kinda dated and doesn't really stand out

This is the kind of old-timey music that gets used in commercials for prescription drugs. Catchy and inoffensive, this Blue-Eyed Soul is the foundation for vanilla artists like Simply Red and Rick Astley. Not my jam. One and a half stars. Given a half-star because I like Pat Benatar and didn't know that "You Better Run" was a cover of a song from this album.

i don't like the art

Pleasant tunes, but overall pretty tepid stuff. Important to remember, I suppose, that while the late ‘60s ultimately became associated with Hendrix, the Doors, Zeppelin, etc., this is what people were actually listening to. The title track is a solid jam, and you don’t necessarily want to fault folks for being merely listenable, but when it all seems so calculated not to offend, there’s very little to recommend multiple visits.

Tough to imagine an album cover making a worse first impression. Let’s see how this goes. Very funny to me that this week we’ve had Revolver (two songwriting geniuses at the height of their powers), Axis: Bold as Love (innovative guitar god), and now this album that seems to have been made by a group of enterprising high school students? With the help of their band teacher, they snuck into the studio and recorded their little songs. (Looked at Wikipedia: they were all like 23, so it kinda tracks.) I was singing along to “I’m So Happy Now,” so I have to give it some credit, but wow, what a difference in the caliber of songwriting and the originality of playing from other albums this week. And I was familiar with “groovin,” but still don’t like it. This was a pretty boring, generic album. Probably a 2 but I could maybe talk myself into a 1 yet.

I literally just finished listening to this about 25 minutes ago, and I already can't remember anything about it. If this was any more middle-of-the-road, it'd be made by Armco.

This is just a lot of 60's-style vaguely folky rock, with clumsy use of stereo. At least one track where I thought, "Oh, hey, that's where this is from." But overall kinda meh.

Started off pretty well, then got to track 5 (How Can I Be Sure) which had me reaching for the skip button. A few more of these before finishing off better with You Better Run. Overall, a few decent tracks in the style of the Beatles or the Kinks, plus some absolute dross

Groovin' is inoffensive 60s easy listening, fine for a Sunday morning, not good enough for the list, another 2. Won't remember it by this afternoon.

This is fine, pretty generic sixties stuff. Most of this stuff feels like it's been done a lot better and a lot tighter elsewhere. Nothing wrong with it, but it's mostly forgettable. How Can I Be Sure and the title track are decent enough, but not enough that I'll deliberately come back to them. 2/5.

The Little Rascals > The Young Rascals

Boring.

Inoffensive and fun, easy listening

They were very upbeat back in the day. And mono. Apart from the part track with jazz flute there was very little that grabbed me.

Offbrand Beatles, don't really understand what impact this had on music history to make the list.

Meh. Hasn’t really aged well, just sounds like the beach boys

A couple of classics on this album, How Can I Be Sure and Groovin’ but overall a bit blase ….

It's got the hit single "Groovin'"... and that's about it. Gets overly sappy at times and the rest is your run of the mill 60s pop & blue-eyed soul music.
