I actual do not mind Dana Electronica, when it is done well and hoping. Tight has too many longer, slower songs that I would not use the Dance genre. Not bad - decent musical arrangement. Can't believe they have 2 discs...

This type of music is for someone. That someone is not me. Electronic music like this is punishingly boring and I can't imagine being moved by this. I guess if I was doing club drugs I could tolerate it but I'm not so I can't.

Some pretty banging UK garage to reminisce to... I can imagine some of the shade being thrown on this in the reviews but as a child of the 90s/00s garage was right up my street. This probably isn't the finest exponent of the genre but it's decent enough for me

I've always been a fan of UKG, and MJ Cole's work is especially great. His classical training really shows up from time to time here, and it all makes for an undeniably electronic and highly danceable album that still makes for something smooth and easy to relax and focus with. It's a great album for driving and doing IT work, and I'd love to get this on vinyl. I was a bit young when this first released, but I would have loved to see the UK electronic scene first-hand back in the 90s and 00s. I totally recommend listening to some of MJ Cole's more recent work too. Some of it is very chill and even quite orchestral. Favourite: Sincere

A decent dance album. Not something I would regularly listen to, it had some bright spots.

I only listened to disc 1 (tracks 1-16) since disc 2 was just remixes. BOOOOOORING!

I really love this album. I don't think I'd ever heard it before. It definitely feels a bit dated, coming out in 2000, but in all the ways I love.

I've definitely never heard of this album or Mj Cole, so I love when this project is able to expose us to completely new music. This album was fun! Nothing spectacular to me, but very pleasing boops and beeps that had my heading nodding along with the 2000s dance rhythms. I found the sound to be very dated to that time period, with the female vocals reminding Ciara of Destiny's Child because of the vibrato and crooning. Probably not something I'd actively seek out to listen to again, but I found it harmless and entertaining for an hour and change.

This was a real mixed bag. Lme of the tracks I had to skip as they were too garagey for me or I didn't like the vocals,but others I quite enjoyed - I like some of the beats and bleeps. Apologies - my language for describing this genre is very limited!

Knowing this is one that's rated bottom I feel obliged to give it a 3 because this is not Throbbing Gristle! Very much of its time repetitive garage beats, that goes on too long, and I never did like garage, but for some reason I've always liked the song Sincere and Crazy Love was a nostalgic bonus.

What kind of egomaniac thinks that there’s enough good material here for a 71 minute album? There’s a decent half hour, maybe. Somewhere in there there’s a Motown/Marvin Gaye idea, and it kind of works. I quite enjoyed the little bit of MCing when I came up, but there is so much filler on here. And how would you dance to this? Maybe I not taking enough cocaine to really get into it?

To be honest, as far as my limited exposure to garage goes, this is pretty nice. Very jazzy in places, great vocals. It's like if So Solid Crew stumbled into a jazz bar at 1am with their Casio keyboard. Favourite tracks: Tired Games (very cool chopped guitar loop), Attitude, Slum King.

I really like this. Its a chill dub record with a lot of soul.

A good house/underground album that created the perfect mood for getting some work done. Super chill with some decent vocals throughout the album. Nothing too crazy but could be worth a lookin on a chill out playlist. Best: Tired Games Worst: MJ FM Interlude

It’s always funny when you see the Wikipedia excerpt and it has a couple sentences and then this album is in the 1001 albums list. Clearly no one else likes this album except the guy that made this list. I know I don’t. Another album on this list that probably shouldn’t be. This is just a 2000s club Dj mix. Not sure what’s the point. 2.3/10

This is a perfect example of the British bias on this list. It’s nothing noteworthy. It’s boring and repetitive to the point of annoyance.

Oddly difficult to listen to. Multiple tracks have the exact same name, which makes seeking out a correct track list in this age of streaming music not the easiest thing in the world. Compounding on this, the Deluxe Edition I found seems to be unlike every other deluxe edition of an album I've ever seen. Instead of preserving the original track list and tacking on more to the end, it replaces and omits tracks from the original.

Heard before: no New Jack really hasn't aged well, and I thought it sounded like a TRS-80 in a tin can at the time. This wants to be an evolution of that, but even when the performances over the top are good, the beats are really bad. And it's a producer's record. I like my music either colder or warmer; this is just tepid, try-hard hotel-lobby music. The fake designer shop bag on the cover kind of says it all. Listening to this in the middle of a heavy traffic on a rainy day was quite an experience. Not great, but not bad either.

Why are there so many of these shitty electronic albums on this list. Do people actually listen to this slop, or is this a part of some large underground conspiracy? Terrible British electrocheese

Some good stuff on here, but ultimately a little dull.

When I first listened to this with my tinny AirPods, it sounded like elevator music. Gave it another listen in my car, and it sounded completely different with the bass drawn out. While I have almost no appreciation for the evolution of UK Garage, I can tell how an album like this was influential to the Disclosures and Jamie XXs of the world in developing the electronic dance music landscape in the UK. To me it does still have the vibe of a European coffee shop lounge singer rather than an underground club scene, but I wasn’t there in the late 90s/early 00s to know. What I do know is this doesn’t belong on this list and is clearly another example of the author favoring nostalgia over true classics.

I hadn't heard this before and was surprised at that. I really enjoyed it and wanted to learn a little more about the UK Garage scene. Nice mix of soul vocals, smooth basslines and dance beats.

The YouTube music version is the deluxe version. Which means it's over two hours long. If the goal of the author(s) is to list the longest albums in the goals of ensuring the album is never completely listened to... then they have succeeded in making sure that I don't die.

There are moments that this finds its groove for me and the electronic vibe works. The lighter touch of the first half of the introduction is a good example. Tired Games and Attitude also have their moments, but i feel like it's got some electronic jazzy rap that begins with Bandelero and pollutes most of the rest of the tracks. This quickly becomes irritating and given that the album is pretty drawn out... i was happy when it was over.

I don't know much about electronic music in general and without any relevant information on Wikipedia I have no idea what makes this one stand out or what may make it historically relevant. But here goes. The album is quite varied between tracks, but not many of the different styles present here are very convincing and most tracks sound very samey in themselves. The more hiphop-oriented tracks such as Bandelero Desperado, MJ FM Interlude, Slime King were absolutely atrocious and I had to skip them halfway through. The random 80's disco track Rough Out Here, while certainly not the worst track on the album, felt very out of place. The soulful crooning of Elisabeth Troy really was the only saving grace of this album for me. But with such a boring backdrop, it wasn't enough.

Thankfully this wasn't J Cole like I first thought. Love me some good house music. This one is a bit funkier than most that I've listened to which is a cool different vibe.

Had this when it came out, had a trendy girlfriend into garage, but I found it repetitive back then - now it is just generally repetitive crap with a generic beat. Even the title track, which felt epic at the time, is just dull

Here we go again. UK musician who topped at 14 on album charts and is in the list. Not just a fact, but what the wiki thing above says. Just because an album is in the top 20 on its release doesn’t justify it being on this list gov. Especially when it isn’t even on Apple Music.

As much as I usually appreciate a break from rock stuff with a little 'lectro, this one didn't do too much for me. So many of the beats are -of-the-era, high BPM techno tracks that just don't have a place in heart or my ears. "Bandelero Desperado" made a big splash, I was certain I'd heard that before, but it was because Azealia Banks sampled it heavily on her song "Desperado." Still, that one was great. Can't say the same for the album unfortunately, it was mostly forgettable. Side note: "MJ Cole" is a really weird name to me, obviously the existence of several famous MJ's plus the more recent J Cole just makes this seem made up. I mean I guess everything is made up, but yeah. I just can't help but imagine J Cole with the Michael Jordan crying meme face on his head. Favorite tracks: Bandelero Desperado, Slum King. Album art: I do really like this cover, a burning bag from the MJ Cole store, on a nice infinite blue plane and backdrop. Stylistically, it just looks really nice. Well done. 2.5/5

Arrgghh... a 2hr+ british house dj album. No fucking way I'm listening to this whole thing. You know it's going to be good when the second album of the double album only has 1 song that's cracked 100k plays on spotify. Did all these beats come from a Casio keyboard?? What is this? Made it about 10 tracks with frequent skipping. Albums like this really kill the credibility of that book.

A 2hr electronica album? Fuck... MJ Cole is a UK Garage/House/Electronica DJ from London. This whole album reminds me of those "alternative takes" of songs that make the deluxe edition of certain records. It's like hip hop/R&B artists contacted him to Remix their songs. Because of this, there isn't much flow to the album. The album cover looks like a pamphlet for a shitty brand of cologne. I've been known to hate electronica, but I must say, of the electronica I've reviewed thus far, this is one of the least shitty ones. I'm thinking I'm more receptive to this record because of the inclusion of lyrics (sung by a bunch of different artists). Like yesterday's album, this record suffers from the issue of overstaying its welcome. 2hrs is just too long. Overall, not a terrible album, but just way too long, and way too generic. Nothing really jumped off the page with this record. Easily forgettable. Nothing super special but had some fun. Wish it was less repetitive.

Another enigma album on the list. It's the first time I have heard about Mj Cole or about any of his songs, and after listening to the whole record, I'm not really surprised. It is basically a simple house beat, with some other instruments added on top and an atmospheric vocal as a topping. Although this description applies to many bands, like Massive Attack at times, or anything based on samples, it just didn't work this time. I wasn't into that album, I didn't like any song, I didn't feel the atmosphere at all. Very below average experience and honestly, I'm wondering, what was so special about this album in the first place, to show up on a list like that. Probably 1000 albums is a bit too many, for such a short history of modern music.

I've never heard of MJ Cole or any of the music on Sincere. The piano starting off the first track was promising, but the music quickly shifted. Wikipedia lists this as House music. I've heard of House music but that's it. I'm not sure what rating to give. I wouldn't tell anyone that they shouldn't listen to MJ Cole, but I can't recommend the music either. I just don't know what to do with this album. I made it through the listen, and it felt long.

I listened to my own Frankenstein's Monster version of this album, as the album on my streaming service of choice was all mangled and missing songs, so if that affected my experience with the album in one way or another, I apologize. As for the album, this was perfectly alright, in fact, I liked it more than most electronica albums from the era, so I really REALLY don't understand how this has such a low average rating. Like, it's weird this is where people drew the line, and not with a multitude of other albums that are just as bad if not worse. I liked it overall, it reminded me of the music in Sonic R, and that can be a good thing in the right mood, I think.

Oh if we're doing turn-of-the-century UK garage/house stuff then there's so much more you could do than include MJ Cole, although he deserves some respect for breaking through to the degree this did. It's FAR too long and only really has Crazy Love to stand out, especially in a genre that was doing some really cool shit around the same time that didn't get the acclaim. It gets a low 3 just for the massive nostalgia but probably doesn't deserve it compared to some of those who should've been represented on the list.

Did not gel with this at all really. Not my jam in general, and this doesn't seem to be a particularly good example of the genre? The 'Be Sincere' motif does a lot of heavy lifting, I didn't count but it felt like it featured on at least a third of the tracks. That said, there's one guy who contributes on a couple of tracks (Danny Vicious) who is the most obvious inspiration for Kurupt FM - they even do an interlude where they pretend to be running a pirate radio station and it's just as cheesy and painful as the worst Grinda bits... 'all the text message crew'... but with a bit more layered in. 1/5

Not really my thing, some of it was alright

Sincere isn't bad, it is just simply too much. If there were ten, even five less songs on this album, I'd be more favourable, but it feels as though Mj Cole has very little to say in such a large amount of time. Pickings are decent, but sameish, and that's where the inherent problem lies. I saved about four or so songs to revisit, but I guarantee that I will likely never touch the rest of the album ever again.

This type of music became popular in the late nineties, and stayed popular till the early naughties. As far as "this" type of music is concerned, Sincere is far from representing any substantial musical achievements or much in the field of originality. Also: extremely overlong. So: Meh, what's this album doing here?

Reading around this suggests that it's on the list as a good example of a genre. OK, I get that. I can live with the idea of that. But, well, it's just all just a bit boring I'm afraid. I quite like electronic music it seems, but this isn't my cup of tea - just seems a bit mindless and without a hook or some style to get me into it. The persistency of the drum line doesn't help possibly. I wouldn't choose to listen to this again, but if it were background music for cooking to, for example, that wouldn't be the end of the world. It can have a sympathy 3, but it's probably a 2.5 in reality.

At the time, I was much more into the harder end of garage, but actually, these fairly detailed and lush garage tracks that still manage to slap are pretty great. I enjoyed it far more than I expected and was 2 stepping found the house all day!

Boring, straightforward electronic pop songs. The vocals and vocal samples are particularly dated. Perhaps would have been exciting upon release but challenging to listen to decades later.

This took me many days to get to. This is not for me at all, but I understand the appeal. I do feel like it's on here because of the overrepresented bias towards mediocre music from the UK from this time period on this list, but that's neither here nor there.

A tantalizing collection of turn of the century UK garage music, MJ Cole delivers the goods with his Sincere album. Featuring the standard female vocalists and the male deejays hovering around and a surprising guest in one of the greatest hip-hop producers of all time (?), Sincere does just about the many bountiful things that could be expected in popular dance music in the early 2000s. It may not be for everyone but it is still a plentiful experience. Favorites: Tired Games, Attitude, Bandelero Desperado, Crazy Love, You're Mine, I See, Sincere (Re-Cue'D), Rough Out Here, Slum King, Free My Mind.

Suprised to find I like this. Seriously not my normal thing but it's so smooth and infectious. Garage/dance/ambient? Not sure but well produced and hypnotic. This chart does throw up some suprises.

This is boring and pedestrian. Generic throw-everything-into-the-mix electronic garbage. The singers are so darn generic it hurts to listen to. Maybe at the time of release it was something, but this is just bad.

MJ Cole is an artist I’ve never heard of, although sometimes I think I might live under a rock in regards to popular music so that may not mean much! The deluxe version of this album is over 2 hours long, so I think I’ll still with the standard edition, thank you very much. Songs I already knew: none Favourites: none When this album started, I thought, “We’ll this is certainly different.” It’s definitely not the type of album I would gravitate towards, being garage music. During track one, I was unsure but felt like I’d give it a chance. However, by track 5 I’d had enough. It reminds me of the type of music chavs would have playing from their phones as a teenagers, while they were trying to beat me up for looking different. Admittedly, that does bring in some bias, but the music is genuinely boring anyway. Somebody tell MJ Cole that it’s ok to have a different tempo once in a while.

Started off absolutely hating this but it grew on me. I never got into UK Garage, finding it too soft for my likes but this does have some nice grooves to it and is definitely enhanced by Elisabeth Troy's singing on some of the tracks.

Couldn’t tell which songs to listen to since there was only the deluxe version on Spotify. So I stuck it out for the requisite 70+ minutes, and boy was this 70+ minutes of techno. 3/10

Repetitive and boring electronica that shows the author of this list did not realize 1001 was such a large number. He fixed his mistake by throwing in random, generic British albums.

Is this good? I mean, not really. It’s fine. Repetitive and vocals are sometimes cringe. Beats are usually well put-together but kinda sounds like a mall soundtrack, or music for a bad racing video game. Do I want to hear this again? No, but I wouldn’t be upset if I did.

Didn't know being a remixer was a thing. First off Danny Vicious was extremely annoying. STFU, dude. The repetition in the songs is tiresome as well, like in "You Are Mine." I guess I was expecting verse-chorus-verse, as opposed to a remix of a song I have never heard. In the end, I just got bored with it. I didn't hate it, but it just doesn't interest me at all. Next.

I've been thinking recently how I've never given an album a 1. What would it take to give one? There's so much variety to music and so much to possibly find endearing in any style that it should be pretty rare. I'm not sure this album is that low. Probably a 2. But I felt like handing a 1 out. And I was looking to skip through to the end or just turn it off from the second song and all of its annoying cut-out and skipping effects, and loops. Tired Games was a fitting name. So I think I have a new criteria. If I can't stand to even finish the album, that's a bad sign. I let the whole thing play but Crazy Love and Free My Mind were about the only things passable to my ears.

Best Song: Sincere. I like the slow jam atmorphere here. Worst Song: You're Mine. The presence of the female vocals throughout the album led me to believe that she was here to stay. Removing her just made this track feel like it was missing something. Overall: Music that is unexciting, but might also not be designed to excite. Relatively simple, straightforward, vocal-dominant electronic. At times it feels as though it's trying really hard to be soulful, and not always landing.

This album was boring, repetitive, and formulaic. It lost steam almost immediately and it never picked back up. The album was also about an hour or so too long. I did like "I See" and "Sanctuary" as standout tracks, but overall this album felt more like a showcase of MJ Cole's production skills rather than an enjoyable album listening experience.

Sleazy, soulless and boring. I feel like this made the list purely on the merits of the two singles (title track and Crazy Love), and there are better UK garage albums *and* better garage/house crossover hit single albums that could have made the list instead.

Bit boring

I can imagine a mood where I am into listening one of these songs. As an album it's uninspiring at best.

Lyrically and musically very uninspiring. Could've gotten 2 stars if it would've ended a few songs sooner.

My album of the day gets refreshed just before 11:30 pm. So, it's New Years Eve and I'm excited about what I'll get for my first album of the year. And I get this. What a mixed bag. Plus, in iTunes, there were several versions of some songs or were mislabeled. Quite a bit of this was trash. But there were a couple of respectable songs in there (Free My Mind). But a lot of it was nondescript. Ok for what it is, background music at a metro bar or if they're lucky, part of the soundtrack for some streaming series. But the album is definitely not worthy of a 1001 list. Scale: 5 - My absolute favorites. 4 - Albums I like. 3 - I enjoyed listening to it but wouldn't seek it out. 2 - Didn't like. 1 - Absolute shit.

Good ol’ UK Garage. But not really good. I never liked this early 2000s rave era electronica to begin with. I don’t think it is something you NEED to hear before you die. This record is pretty repetitive. There are some cool moments, but it’s repetitive nature and overall length of the record ruin it for me.

Nice dancey album, good grooves. 4 stars.

90s bloat never gets better. "Let me see if I can fill this cd with music" is an atrocity, even if the music is passable.

First thought: this music makes me feel like I'm browsing a shitty store at a mall. Unfortunately, this didn't change as I sat through the rest of the album. I love good dance music but this feels like the most generic, blah version. I really don't understand why this is on the list as I feel like there have to be more groundbreaking or better versions of this subgenre of dance music. I don't hate it, I just personally find it very boring. Standout Tracks: N/A

This was actually a bit better than I was expecting. Not amazing, but better than a lot of the other electronica albums I have listened to. The songs actually manage to be interesting and aren't way too long. My favourite songs were Rough Out Here, Hold On To Me, and Free My Mind.

Un bon album de salon de coiffure house. Celui-ci commence par une attente assez courte sur le canapé proche de la porte. On est ensuite pris en charge par Jessica qui vient nous enfiler une blouse puis nous shampouine avec beaucoup de délicatesse. On s'installe ensuite devant le miroir et explique à celle-ci comment on va les couper avec l'aide d'une photo de Robbie Williams. Jessica se met alors au travail et nous pose des questions de plus en plus intrusives : "Ca va ? Ca fait combien de temps que tu les as pas coupés ? Tu mets de la cire dans tes cheveux ou pas ? Hein ? Alors ? Tu réponds oui ou merde ?!" Elle nous montrera ensuite l'arrière de notre tête puis nous fera enfin payer. C'était pas trop tôt.

Un bel exemple de coiffeur house nous est offert ici. Une charmante jeune femme vient nous proposer un shampoing pour lancer les hostilités, avant de nous aposer un tablier autout du cou. C'est alors que le coiffeur principal vient faire son entrée, prodiguant de savants coups de ciseaux, tout en nous demandant comment ça va. Nous repartons malheureusement en trouvant que la coupe est trop courte (au contraire de l'album).

Some decent tracks. I've never been a big fan of UK garage/UK-style house, and even if this is a landmark record of the genre, it still doesn't really resonate with me.

If this album has a redeeming quality I could not find it.. Disappointing to have to suffer through not one but two disks.

Great voice. Could barely get thru the first hour so I’m assuming the second hour was like the first.

I like a lot of the beats, especially the drum and bass featured on the first two tracks and then popping up elsewhere. But I don’t really care for the pairing with the singing of Elisabeth Troy and the rapping of Nova Casper.

There is scant web info on this album and just a bit about MJ himself. He bested Dr. Dre to win 2001 Best Producer for this album at the MOGO (Music of Black Origin) Awards. That’s impressive although I had to read the date several times because I said 1991 in my head more than once. Thats the sound I hear. One that was 10 years behind its time. I skipped next before the end of almost every track.

Fun, appealing dance music. I’m not sure I’d be able to pick MJ Cole’s style out of a lineup of other DJs / producers but this is solid music for dancing or working out. The back half gets a little more eclectic. There’s some moody, atmospheric numbers and the disco-soul of “Rough Out Here” was a pleasant surprise.

Very cool drum n bass rnb record. I enjoyed it. Production was fresh (for a 22 year old album), performances were cool. Hard to try to break it down and understand what was done "in the box" and what wasn't but maybe that's more fun to not know what was sampled and what wasn't. I think drum n bass deserves some spots on this list but I question whether this is one of the best ever. 3/5 for me!

Utterly antiseptic and more synthetic than sincere.. Will age about as well as cubic zirconia, though one suspects some stylish people in stylish capitals found this a stylish auditory accessory for at least a season. (Note: from the review linked on the official site: “Many will argue that 2-Step/UK Garage is a shallow, one-dimensional genre that will fade like overchewed gum. However, albums like “Sincere” go to prove that UK Garage is more than a fad.” Editors seemed to go with “fad” [one thinks “shallow and one-dimensional” to be more on point descriptively] as it’s been pulled from the official list and is now “ex.”)

Very boring and bland electronic music

Well, I didn't actively hate it so I can't give it one star... but I DID actively DISLIKE it so it's not getting more than two from me. The main problem is that it seems willfully lacking in self-awareness. It feels as though Mr. Cole is purposefully looking away from his influences and is unwilling to acknowledge the boundaries that he's trampling on. Everything he puts out here he presents with a totally straight face. He wants this taken seriously which is a problem because much of it is really very cheesy and silly. And it seems that even the listening public agreed as it only reached #14 in the UK. Why THIS, of all the UK Garage albums, merits inclusion in the list is beyond me.

Supermarket friendly UK Garage. The beats are desperate to be good, glitchy & bass heavy but the cheesy R&B vocals ruin it - and I mean really ruin it. It's like a kid who wants to be daring but then runs back to his mum. Not bad, just really really really dull. Best Tracks: Introduction; Bandelero Desperado; Strung Out

Just not for me, the songs are too same-y and get a little annoying pretty quickly.

Just a boring listen. Nothing stood out, no particular feature was amazing, reminded me of the music companys play for you while on hold. Not sure why this albums on the list, I’ve heard WAY better electronic production.

Be sincere, be sincere, be sincere...OK what exactly are you trying to say to me? Do you even know? I found this monotonous and grating on my nerves. I read that so many people just love this! We are all so different and everyone is entitled to be moved by whatever it is that moves them. However, this does not move me in a positive way at all. I just want to turn it off.

I'm wondering if the people who gave this a positive review or even the people involved in making this album could pick any of these songs out of a lineup. I'll admit that electronic music isn't always a favorite genre of mine but I like some standout artists and albums. I'm definitely not a person who thinks you can't make good music using computers or that dance music can't be interesting but this is the kind of music that people hear and (wrongly) believe those things. Blah, blah, good beat, blah, blah you can dance to it, etc.but boring without the use of club drugs.

Almost as boring as the album cover suggests.

"Sincere" is the debut album from English Garage DJ MJ Cole. English Garage is a genre of dance music originating from England in the early to mid90's talking elements from R&B, jungle, dance pop and also encorporating gospel piano riffs and female vocals. Considered more soulful than Chicago House also big at the time. MJ Cole worked as a tape operator and sound engineer in that musical area before making his own album using a sampler and Atari ST. Truthfully, I had trouble getting into this. Almost all the songs had beats similar to Bell Biv DeVoe's "Poison." It also kind of reminded currently of Disclosure. Some songs of note here. "Crazy Love" features Elisabeth Troy on vocals with her soulful voice. Nice keyboard intro and progression. Got that good beat. "Sincere" was the biggest single and features Nova Casper & Jay Dee on vocals. It has a cascading keyboard melody and creates almost a more chill/jazzy atmosphere. Maybe it was the repetitiveness of the songs or the genre itself but I had trouble focusing on this. It is not bad sounding by any times but just grab me. If you're more into the 90's house-type music, this might for you.

I genuinely find this album's inclusion on this list baffling. This album seems like super standard 90s techno released after the 90s had finally shuffled off. After reading a bit more about UK Garage techno, I understand a little bit more, but continue to be confused. This is one of the few albums on this list that I won't make it even close to the whole way through. It's just uninspired and uninspiring. 2/5

Garage that's neither too dumb nor too smart, and more than hooky enough. Female voices add texture. Much of a muchnes but in the most pleasant way.

An easy background listen

A bit inconsistent and yet redundant at the same time. Songs are all over the place. Not a must listen, but I guess it's ok as a UK garage token album. Best tracks: Rough Out Here and Slum King

the voice was just incredibly obnoxious and there was potential but it didn’t reach it…

I like the idea, but i could not connect with this. There's a lot of effort that goes into creating music like this, I get that, but this ends up grating to me. Repetitive and mostly the vocals are ... not good at all. actually I think I'd probably have boosted this a full star if it were all instrumental.... (although some of the repetition is jarring). I just don't like it and wouldn't listen again. 3/10 2 stars

First 4 tracks I was "WTF?" but it really kicked in after that. Brave move putting out a 2 hour album, but it worked.

It had it's moments, but it didn't capture my attention. With the little that I know about electronic music, this seemed a tad boring and generic sounding. Really not much for me to enjoy, move on...

Genre: 2-Step 3/5 Well, go figure, another white DJ trying his best to insert himself into the culture a la David Holmes. This time, though, it's done with a bit more class, and a lot better production and songwriting. 2-Step, somewhat of a continuation of the UK garage and house music fads that swept the 90s, is part-techno, part-hip hop/neo soul. Plenty of talented vocalists, all lesser known in the broad world of music, lay down some decent performances over what are essentially more ambient, more thought-out breakbeat tracks. The title track, Sincere, was a moody, sensual track with some neat vocal sampling and good arrangements and production. Attitude was another interesting song early in the setlist that piqued my interest, but lasted a little longer than necessary. A lot of the tracks on here, enough to run for a 67-minute span, are somewhat stale representations of a genre that sounds like it has ample room for experimentation. Others are just blatant trip-hop ripoffs that sound stolen from old Massive Attack projects. A bit stale as a whole, but not bad, fairly inoffensive, and easy to listen to.

Quite mellow. Excellent singing by Elisabeth Troy. I am surprised to say i like this. Sincere (the song) is well known and a club classic. Definitely a 3, but although early UK Garage and influential, probably not a 4. Enjoyable enough.

Ça s’écoute bien en travaillant. Intéressant, mais trop long. Il y a de belles trouvailles, mais il y a aussi une genre de recette qui rend les tounes prévisibles.

Je connais maintenant le UK garage. La pochette ne m’inspirait pas du tout. C’est finalement moins pire que je pensais. Il y a certains bons éléments, certains bons beats, mais à part une musique de fond, ce n’est pas vraiment mon bag. Et c’est vraiment trop long.

I really liked this.

EDM album out of the UK Garage scene. Beats are uniquely jittery and almost erratic, creating an interesting foundation for the smooth padded synths and jazzy samples. This is all layered over some lovely vocals, many of which are lent by Elizabeth Troy. I am not a fan of the UK Garage scene. I find it to be clunky and somewhat abrasive in how it handles the beats, which is usually the crux of the genre.

Middle of the road UK garage? I didn't mind this so much and particularly enjoyed Sincere and Crazy Love. Slum King as well. This is firmly a 3.5 for me.

Eh, I didn't like UK garage at the time, and this hasn't converted me. At least it didn't actively piss me off, which some of the genre definitely did back in the day. Fave track - "Rough Out Here", but maybe that's cheating as it's a straight ahead soul track, not very garagey. "Slum King" sound amusingly like it could come from "People Just Do Nothing" 😆
