Reviews (page 5 of 7)

Brian Eno is just a chill dude who likes to make chill music.

The songs with lyrics were kind of dreamy. I could take or leave the others.

Yeah. Sure. OK.

Prog rock is not so much for me. However, I appreciate how experimental it was for the time.

Was looking forward to another Eno album to see how it compares to ‘…Warm Jets.’ Found it more enjoyable and connectable. Although, felt like the tracks were quite brief, just starting up and then faded out. A kind of nothingness or at least never gets going or leads anywhere. ‘Meh’ is the most fitting summary. Kinda beginner soundscape, ambient, stock backing/slightly experimental music. Struggling to find the one track I like most because it’s all kind of nondescript nothing.

I am a fan of Eno as a producer or other acts, but I never really spent time with this one. It is certainly interesting, but not something I think I'd ever come back to.

I enjoyed this album, definitely some movie soundtracks vibes at times.

Listened July 2021. I find it hard to rate this kind of ambient music because I find it perfectly pleasant and would happily put it on in the background anytime, but I can't say I really love it or would choose to listen to it often. I respect the craft and what people enjoy about it, even though it isn't really for me.

Interesting listen as I was hiking up a new mountain

Solid. A little funk. 3/5

I prefer the longer, purely instrumental tracks of e.g. Music for Airports, as far as ambient Eno is concerned, but this is good too.

Kinda interesting, kinda dull. Eno'msayin'?

Im not sure how I felt about this one tbh. A fine listen all things considered, but nothing really grabbed me

Good but not my favorite Eno by far.

Probably as much as I could like an ambient album.

Not Eno's best work. I definitely consider this album to be a bridge from his experimental pop/rock to his straight ambient work.

This is a cool album. Sounds like it could have been recorded today. Sky saw sounds really cool. May revisit this later. 1001 album worthy: yes - 77/140

St. Elmo's fire is a pretty good song. Rest of the album is ok. Not what I would normally listen but wasn't the worst. 3/5

I can respect the artistry and talent that went into this album. That being said it just didn't click for me but I can see why people would love it.

He's one of the few artists who deserve to have multiple albums on the list, because they're all very different. I don't like his later work very much, but this is good. Favorite song: sombre reptiles

This guy has been around for a long time, and was with Roxy music before they rose to famousness. This album is very early electronica along with some mellow rock tunes. Some of these sound like they would be perfect for museums or airports. Overall pleasant and cutting edge for 1975.

I have heard of Brian Eno before but had no idea what his deal was. His deal is apparently Phil Collins drumming with some electronic woobly noises mixed in and occasional uncaptivating vocals. I like the album cover -- did it inspire Conclave (2024)? Highlight: 'The Big Ship'

Aika ambient. Ei paha! 3/5

I recently heard FredAgain talking about Brian Eno, so was keen to hear his work. It's a bit like a fever dream in all the right ways? Fave Tracks - St Elmo's fire - Golden Hours

A little too much silence between most tracks. It doesn't make it flow very well. The music is alright for the most part. My favourites were St Elmo's Fire and Golden Hours.

Likes this better than the last Eno album I got two days ago. Lyrics were kept to a minimum and I was able to enjoy the ethereal music landscape. 3/5

A classic. Love the mix of ambience and art rock. Not fully enticing to me than some of the more rocky stuff but still very solid

Very unique and strange. A lot of instrumental. Not sure is listen again but interesting hearing the different parts come together.

Similar to Heroes by David Bowie to me. Top end good songs but also some experimental wacky music. Is it innovative and unique? Yes. Is it the best album I’ve ever heard? No. This feels more like an album geared towards winning critical acclaim rather than toward gaining actual listeners…prestige music

It's a fine 2.5

This is perfectly pleasant but feels a little directionless. I had ‘Here Come the Warm Jets’ earlier in the project and loved it, this is just ok.

Imagine the Berlin trilogy, but Bowie's vocals were replaced by Baz from the pub.

I enjoyed this a lot more than I feared.

70s background music. 5/10

Weird, not bad, a little too out there to love

We're swampwith stuff like this now but it must have been groundbreaking at the time and is still a pleasant listen

I really struggled to get into this. I was hoping I might like it because I do like ambient from time to time but there just wasn't anything I was grabbing onto here. I even gave it a second listen in hopes it might just be something that grows on me but nope... still can't quite gel with it. I do see where it was really influential though so I'll upgrade it a level to acknowledge.

A quirky and ambitious album. Likely Eno’s most accessible album with star-struck features to boot. At times utterly beautiful, at times wincingly awkward - but always strikes a nice balance. Definitely an album to put on at a dinner party, but with deeper meaning. It deserves more from the listener.

It seems like the soundtrack to a movie. The instrumentals were more agreeable than the songs with lyrics.

Very interesting album. Standout songs: Golden hours Everything merges with the night

This is fine. Not for me, but it's not bad music.

Not a bad listen but not many really memorable tracks

Some interesting experimental sounds mixed with more traditional synth-pop. Not bad but no need to listen other than as background music.

I don't have too much experience with the ambient music we find on this album, so it's hard to fairly assess it. I had it on as I worked and it served as perfectly acceptable background music, but at no point did I feel that I needed to stop workign and jsut lsiten, as I do when I hear albums that really connect with me. The guitar on "golden hours" was awesome, and the melody in "St. Elmo's Fire" was catchy, but other than that nothing really stood out to me.

Best Song: St. Elmo's Fire. It feels like a song from a show that has puppets, but in a good way. Worst Song: Little Fishes. This sounds like your character in an 8-bit video game about farming just ate a bad mushroom and now they're dealing with the consequences until they can sleep it off. Overall: It's certainly got a calming quality, to the extent that it was as though I kept forgetting that I was listening to music. Slippery music. Music that evades conscious attention.

6.5/10

Brian Eno!!! I know of him because of the um err um MGMT song (I'm not a plebian, I swear). I've seen this album around before, though what I've heard about it doesn't really come to mind. It's a pretty good album cover. Definitely an iconic one. Gotta be honest - the minimal, ambient approach doesn't really do much for me. There are some good moments when the piano is the center focus, but the songs based around percussion and guitars are all pretty thoroughly unmoving. I have no clue how to describe those electronic tones that appear on some of the songs (particularly St. Elmo's Fire), but I quite enjoyed them and haven't heard a similar sound elsewhere. They definitely give the album a reason for belonging on this list

Seems pretty schizophrenic. Half of the songs feel like a pop-rock record (and not a great one, though “I’ll Come Running” is vaguely fun and “Everything Merges” is quite good). The other half are much more ambient – “Becalmed” is lovely, “Big Ship” and “Another Green World” both appeal, and “Zawinul” sounds like Ambient 1 outtake. Warm Jets is superior in first category, Music for Airports (and others) in the latter. As with everything Eno, there are lots of interesting bits, but ultimately this feels indifferent too often.

Listened to this twice. It's "ok". But there's no wow factor. Nothing toe tapping or singalong. Not that 'relaxing' either for so-called ambient music.I did recognise the theme tune to BBC2's Arena in there which I liked probably more from familiarity. The album seems to have been made primarily for the artist rather than for an audience. And 'experiment' as others have commented. Lucky he didn't need the money TLDR : Ok. But it won't be going on my playlist

I know I’m supposed to find this all influential and stuff, but most of the time I just don’t really get what’s so special. The instrumental tracks are all pretty groovy, but sometimes I forget that I’m actually listening to music. The lyrics to the songs with words are generally corny.

Strange...

I listened to this yesterday, and it barely made an impression (negative or positive) except I remember the "I'll tie your shoe" lyric. Lots of soundscape stuff, minimal lyrics. Yeah, I'll have no memory of this soon. Oh, yeah I forgot the annoying saw sound in the first track "Sky Saw."

I've been liking this guy more than I thought I would. Ambient's a pretty hard sell on paper - shit I can listen out my window to some pretty cool ambient noise, but that's not really what this is- there's a lot of structure and creative instrumentation. Some heavy hitters guessed and he gets what so many noise/ambient/dance musicians of later years do not - you can still be fucking interesting within a repetetive framework. Mylo. Beta Band. Anyway the lyrical ones remain kinda silly in the best way.

A well constructed album of music I don’t jive with.

I went into this album with a completely open mind… Then album started and I couldn’t wait for it to be over… But soon after, I really began to enjoy it and it left me in an almost meditative state, which I was really surprised at. I do with it just did away with lyrics completely, as the music ended up feeling really really good. The lyrics are what stopped me really enjoying the music as much as I could have. In Dark Trees was the beginning of me enjoying it, The Big Ship also great… after that I sort of zoned out of knowing when the tracks changed. Pleasantly surprised. Side note, as the album radio cane on after, I learned that Brian Eno made ‘An Ending (Assent’ which is the music Sky Sports always used for their ‘The Gloves are Off’ Which was also a nice thing. Solid 3

I was happy to get Brian Eno album after recently reading about his role in producing some of Bowie's most interesting albums, as well as U2, Talking Heads etc. However, whilst this album is definitely a collection of interesting and diverse soundscapes, they rarely turn into anything more than that. Oh for Bowie to work his magic over these starting points.

Very good listen. Solid 3 and would listen again. Bet Eno was the music teachers pet.

Not great, but I discovered Brian Eno's entire catalogue might be some nice and interesting background music.

There was some weirdness as expected but overall was a good listen

Only a great record if you preferred the b side of Low

2.5 stars. Much of it is instrumental and very minimalist and experimental. "St Elmo's Fire" closest to a traditionally structured song.

It's nice

Points for originality and authenticity. An enjoyable and important album. Not one I’m likely to put on with much regularity.

Maybe Eno's best one... Influential but dated.

Interesante pero mejor con Bowie.

Brian Eno is on another planet. Nothing bad about it but I admit I don’t get it.

At least it was better than Here Come The Warm Jets. But when you credit some of the instruments as choppy organs, spasmodic percussion, club guitars, uncertain piano, restrained lead guitar and unnatural sounds…I think that says it all.

Meh. 2.75

Didn’t love this but enjoyed more than Here Come the Warm Jets. That’s about all I have to say. Shrug emoji. 3/5

Not the worst Brian Eno record I’ve heard, but I’m still phar phrom being a phan. It wasn’t annoying like some of his other stuff, which was nice. Not very difficult to get through. Length isn’t a problem. A respectable outing from Brian. 3/5

tried listening to this a while ago and gave up a few tracks in. I just didn't like how dated it sound to me at the time. After giving it a full listen, I'm conflicted. I like it however, I don't really get the hype. Just seems like a really odd electronic rock album from the 70s. I can't really think of anything similar too it, its really one of kind, but i kind of don't care to hear anything else like it. I also don't get how this ambient, like I get ambient doesn't always mean subtle and atmospheric, it more has to do with timbre/texture or whatever. I don't hear it, I feel like I've heard far more textured and detailed compositions on other ambient projects. I guess i can give it pass because its like one of the first ambient albums. ok last few tracks are absolutely ambient, but the rest i dont get it i hope this grows on me because this is something i should like

Three stars solely on how amazing the title track is. Some of the other tracks are a bit hit and miss for me.

It was okay, the most remarkable thing for me was that it was from 1975 and the production is so good.

It’s seems there is really an excessive amount of Brian Eno music that it considered essential. I’ve enjoyed his work with Roxy Music, but the solo stuff has generally ranged between bad and middling for me. Today’s album may be the best of his solo stuff that I’ve listened to so far, but his solo work simply doesn’t click for me. I enjoyed listening, but am left with absolutely no desire to listen more. In fact, writing this review the day after listening, I had to take a minute to remind myself what the album actually was.

Very Brian Eno. Well produced and he's having fun playing with sounds.

Vreemd ambient album. FAVO: Becalmed

Chille achtergrond edm

Pretty good for some ambient alternative ish

Heaven is Eno ambient instrumentals. Hell is Eno vocals.

Another album that suffers from my busyness. Didn’t feel strongly one way or the other. Masterful musicianship but it was kinda weird and stylistically broad

3 stars

Loopy instrumental rock. Phil Collins on drums. Soundscapes with electronic elements. Mostly pleasant.

I enjoyed most of the instrumental tracks, not a great singer though is he!?

Lots of beautiful soundscapes. His voice is not the strongest point but never was a borders a little bit on those dreaded words 'pastoral' or 'whimsical'. It's proggy which used to be a huge no no for me but I've mellowed of late. Can hear Bowie's Low in here which is probably why it resonates somewhere... Fripp is fantastic when his guitar appears Worth a listen and feel better for having heard but it's a 'know why it's here' 3*

I love Brian Eno's work in general but have a great appreciation for his production work. Especially the stuff he did with David Bowie. But this album seems a little mechanical or something to me. Like it doesn't have the normal humanness to it if that makes sense. It's sort of sterile. While I still like it, I don't think this is what I would have chosen to represent Brian Eno on a list like this. 3/5

Interesting. Weird. Not bad. 3.25

Eno is my favorite NYT crossword answer

music to work to

It’s ok

An eclectic mix of slightly weird vocal songs and excellent musicianship. Had to listen to it at least 3 times to get a handle on it but I liked it.

Don’t know it. Like him as a producer and performer though

I also thought Brian Eno was on my no-fly list, but his was pretty okay. His melodic sense is sound and he certainly got rhythm and his boundary-pushing is near-constant and interesting. Breaking down preconceptions, I give you…Eno.

There’s something very incredible about St. Elmo’s Fire. The rest of this, I wish was as enchanting. I really love Eno’s contributions on Bowie’s Warszawa, but other than that his songs are just sort of Eno-land for me.

Strange and not my thing but at the same time beautiful and haunting.

Clearly ahead of its time, a great work in creating an ambiance with instruments and exploring diffent moods … Not aloe of replay value and seems like an album that might grow on me … me not being a huge fan of ambiance music and the sound being replicated so many times now makes it hard for me to put it higher than a 3 but the innovation and spacey vibe of the album makes it hard to go lower A solid 3 with chance for long term appreciation

This album HAD to be drug induced. The thing is, is this isn’t bad, it’s just different. This is art rock I think. A soundtrack for a b movie thriller or a odd space movie. I could just let the music take me on a thoughtless journey. It’s almost hypnotizing. I’d be ok with Brian Eno’s vocals being removed. I have no choice cut because I really can’t separate the songs from one another.

Pleasant to hear, as expected, but not actually engaging.

I liked it better than the other Eno album we had on the 1001 list. This one is worth saying "you gotta here this before you die".

It was arty and interesting but I didn’t exactly like it

Respeto hacia Brian Eno.

Brian Eno is a name that I know is "important" in music, but I've never listened to his work. And, after listening to it, it sounds like "important" music. It's comfortably experimental.

I liked this album, it was interesting without being too far out there. The track "Golden Hours" really stood out to me.

Ethereal, pop I guess

Quiet, calm atmospheric music. Quite pleasant to listen to in the background, but not really my thing.

Enjoyed this one more than I thought I would. Interesting combo of funk and electronic 70's music.

Interesting.

Experimental sounds, combinations ( Castinet guitars - who knew you could make that sound with a guitar). I am sure musicians and producers love to see if they can make these sounds. As a consumer, however it is not really my thing. Glad to have heard it, but probably won't have these songs on my fave list :-)

I liked it, but I feel I would have enjoyed the trip better with some "mind-bending goodies" :D

I realize that Brian Eno is a pioneer in Electronica, and I am a super fan. However, I tried to think of this album from a more "just some person thinking about listening to an original electronica style album." And with that, I think it is probably heard as a little strange. It is very different and I think it helps to understand that nobody was doing this, or even more so, daring to to this. Brian Eno put this out there knowing some of the audience was going to be unsure about it. I would say that if you are not me, you might still have that view. I can't say it is bad, because of what it is and represents, just as well I can't say it is a must hear just because I am a superfan.

There were a few songs I liked, especially the instrumental ones.

It took me some time to finish the album. To me it’s a complex piece of work, some numbers have a fantastic sound and rhythm while other songs are far away from my understanding

Was pretty cool

The word “soundscape” kept running around in my head while I was listening to this album. It is impressive how Eno can create an emotion or feeling. The few songs in which he sings detract from the flow and mood, however. I enjoyed it, but don’t know that I’ll ever revisit it.

Favorite Track: I’ll Come Running

At times, its like the progenitor for all that lovely indie game music that's come since. At other times its this weird cacophonic chaos. I'm still waiting to get Ambient Music For Airports to dish out a high score for Eno.

IMO this was a weird one. Very artsy, which is why my infant didn’t get it. She didn’t seem too bothered by it though, so 3/5

I liked this better than the other Brian Eno album on this list, this one is more listenable, less ambient music. As a producer Eno made some of thebmost iconic albums in history. His solo work is much more experimental. This was pretty good

eh it was alright, nothing super special, but sounded nice none the less 2.7 stars

I'll give Another Green World credit, I liked it more than i thought i would have. This generally does seem to give off some of the same vibes that the other Brian Eno album i looked at (the music for airports one) but it seems that here he tried a few more things that album did not try. Although, these new ideas could sometimes make it feel like Eno was in over his head sometimes. The majority of the songs were tolerable and were pretty decent at best though. I do prefer Brian Eno's airport album though since it feels more consistent in terms of quality as opposed to hopping all over the place. Best Song: In Dark Trees Worst Song: Sky Saw

Funny, the songs with words really didn't do it for me... The ambient, however - totally awesome! The Big Ship is SUCH A TUNE!

Interesting but a little too strange for me

It's more a curiosity than an album I think needs to be heard. You can hear sounds of what would later become Bowie's Berlin period, and some minimalism and ambient textures that would later become Eno's "Music For Airports". The resulting work is... pleasant, but dull. Favorite tracks: "Becalmed", "Sombre Reptiles"

I can tell it's great but not really my thing

I liked this more than I thought I would. While I don't know that I'd want to listen to this again, I enjoyed the run through of this album and actually listened to all of it.

I was put on to one of these songs a few months ago and loved it. Had never heard of Brian Eno or this album before that but this is a good listen.

There's no doubt Bowie was listening to this and it helped him shape the Berlin Trilogy. I preferred the ambient tracks over the songs with vocals. Detached and icy. There's a good chance this will grow on me but for now, it's decent and influential.

I enjoyed this more than the other two Eno albums on this list, it still sounded pretty experimental but had a bit more purpose to it.

ei missaa.. ei toki jarre tasoa..

This album it's really good background listen ing and I know there are people get a lot more out of it than I did

This album left absolutely no impression on me.

Godfather of modern electronic music

3.5 but the title track is an absolute 10/10

Brian Eno is everywhere! But strangely, I think this is the first time I've heard an album by him. I largely enjoyed it, as I suspected I might, but I wish we'd gotten an earlier album, as this one makes me feel like he's better collaborating and/or inspiring with others, and I'm pretty sure some of his solo work is great as-is. Just maybe not this one. It felt too much like music for an art museum exhibition, and not for active listening. I think the main issue for me is just that there's just too few tracks with singing and/or lyrics, which would have made the album a lot more interesting (I think), and less easy to kind of tune it out as ambient music (as interesting as it is for that); basically, I was hoping for more tracks like "Everything Merges with the Night", but probably harder-edged too. I *will* say that, as ambient music goes, especially from the mid-1970s, this is quite impressive, as it feels like it anticipates music from *much* later; there's even hints of Radiohead, Air, and Chemical Brothers in some of the better ambient songs, and the album as a whole makes me think of some of Ween's albums (at least to me, and I know none of those bands are technically ambient anyway).

Sky Saw got off to a good start until the singing happened... rest of the album was better but never as good as I wanted it to be.

good background music but not my type

Nice background music

I found this boring album somewhat interesting.

Near the end of this exercise, 5 Brian Eno albums (and more that he influenced / produced) in. I can see the breadth of his influence, and I appreciate his will to experiment and innovate. But his music is so often repetitive that I just can't become a fan. I REALLY liked the opening synth in Sky Saw, grew absolutely sick of it after 3 minutes. I'll Come Running was my favourite track, at least until "I'll come running to tie your shoes" ad nauseum in the back half of the song.

From the opening notes and sounds, I was very optimistic about this album. I think I said it in an earlier review of an Eno album, his contributions to the canon of popular music is significant, he has produced some of the all-time great albums over the years, but I find his efforts as an artist difficult to embrace. So it goes with Another Green World. The sonic landscape is fantastic, but the material sounds like it was written by an alien. There's something so detached and odd about the songs themselves, lyrically and melodically. So, there was a lot to like, but in the end, this did not speak to me and reinforced my estimation that Brian Eno is one strange cat.

I’m not familiar with Brian Eno’s work prior to the 80s. While I don’t think Another Green World has the same draw for me as his later work, it’s something I plan to explore. I liked this

I heard from a friend that Brian Eno has a secret husband called Howard. I don't think I trust him though, he's never met Brian. And I mean, Howard Eno? 2.7

Never knew there was another St. Elmo’s Fire

ÄPÄRÄ!!!!!!!!! avioton lapsi.. noh nykyaikana saa jättää sellaset hengittämään.. no työvoimaa sentään... korjataan tää huoltosuhde huoh... sky saw

The songs are really good. The experiments are not as listenable, but are short enough to keep it interesting.

I hadn't heard any Brian Eno before this. It's pretty good, I might check out some more.

Decent, but nothing to write home about.

Some fairly indifferent songs and he only sounds half-in and thus many cuts feel half-baked. The more ambient instrumentals are best cuts – no surprise – by some distance. Still, it's Eno so it's interesting, but lacks souls (also characteristically).

Not usually much for ambient but I enjoyed most of this one.

This was fine, and better than the Airport ambiance album.

I think I prefer Eno as a collaborator. I wanted to hear Roxy Music do I'll Come Running while listening to this. The Arena theme tune is still great, if a little short.

Very cool experimental album. Cool grooves and soundscapes through out. This one probably needs a few listens, but more melodic than expected.

2024-03-02...

A lot of this was really boring. I liked the openings to these songs. But a lot of them didn't go anywhere.

I can see how this is an important album historically, but musically it really didn't do much for me.

Not my type of music, but the bass was great on this album.

Excellent, I'd never listened to this before

some songs were cool…some songs sounded like elevator music…

Eno has collabed with all the greats. This album is just okay for me though. To quote Oukast, I’m just being honest. Mad respect for the dude, though.

couple of nice instrumentals and the rest of the songs are pretty non-offensive, wish there was more substance

Enjoyed the listen. Definitely can see how Brian Eno has become big in film scoring, this early album shows his delving into these themes. 3/5 only because I wouldn't find myself putting this album on very often, but appreciate what it is.

3/14, 21%

Didn’t think I was going to like this, but I actually kind of did. It made for good background music while I washed dishes and did some other chores. “I’ll Come Running” was probably the highlight. Started to get kind of tedious near the end, but I’ve heard a lot worse.

Oh boy. Another Eno album. Eno ran so Fiery Furnaces could fly.

Some pretty feel-good upbeat songs like St Elmo's Fire. Then some songs, like Becalmed, that make me feel like I am sitting inside one of those suicide pods waiting for the chemicals to take hold and slowly kill me. That being said I think there should be something on here for everyone.

7. Its fun

I get it, but I like how this influenced Bowie's work more. Transitional to the true ambient work that is his real legacy.

Very interesting album, with some different musical instruments. I liked the instrumental tracks the best. 3 stars.

Very gentle and ambient. Would dig it while high im sure

Brian eno is either genius or total fraud. I’m still not sure which. A great band… 2.5 while I work it out.

Another Green World. Not his best, but some gems in there. Becalmed and the title track are very nice. Everything Merges With Night is also decent, as is In Dark Trees. The rest is relatively forgettable.

Interesting music. I see how much Eno influenced David Byrne/Talkingheads. Lots of instrumental...kinda "weird", but unlike most any other music you can listen to. Not sure how often I will return to it, but certainly worth a listen.

Brian Eno is creative and innovative, but I don't love this album.

pioneiro do experimentalismo

Interesting background piece.

Well, it’s not what I was expecting, obviously, but it doesn’t mean I didn’t like it. I think for 1975, it’s a very interesting call to go for an album like this, and in a lot of ways, I think there's a semblance of some modern production here. I don’t think there’s a whole lot to say other than “it sounded really nice,” and I think for my tastes, it did a really good job of filling its soundscape up to keep me captivated. It’s like a 3 – I don’t think it’s super great, but it’s a really chill listen and it’s something I’d recommend. Just not like, mind-blowing or anything.

Too chill

Too much ambient idc about. The actual songs are okay.

Forgettable

I mix of alternative rock songs with a steady beat and a chorus, artsy instrumentals, and beeps and squawks without reason. I liked a few of the more sensical songs.

As an album, I don't particularly love this; however, as an aural art expo, this is pretty fascinating. There are so many different vibes and sounds throughout the course of the album that it really feels way ahead of its time and like it could easily be incorporated into some of the modern video game soundtracks, or even electronic music pieces nowadays. Pretty cool experiment if nothing else. Fav tracks: Zawinul/Lava, Becalmed, Over Fire Island

If this album was a desert it would be a small single scoop of vanilla ice cream with no toppings. Not the fancy vanilla either, store brand.

Mediocre. Background music.

I love a lot of this album, but I get lost when Eno’s yet to be fully expressed ambient side pops up. It’s a shame.

I normally don't love (mostly) instrumental albums, but this one helped me relax a bit yesterday during a really stressful day. So that was nice.

Really nice album. Kind of a mix of ambient songs and chill/weird songs in the style of Ringo or Harry Nilsson. His voice actually sounds a fair bit like Ringo. Definitely deserves another listen but also not something I'm totally itching to listen to again. But really enjoyed it. 3.5

1. 3/5 2. 3/5 3. 4/5 4. 2/5 5. 3/5 6. 3/5 7. 3/5 8. 2/5 9. 2/5 10. 3/5 11. 3/5 12. 2.5/5 13. 3/5 14. 3/5 = 2.82

OKish.

Good and chill, just not totally my thing.

3.5 I feel like I should’ve liked this album more than I did. Heck, I should’ve loved this album. But something was missing for me. I think if the album focused solely on instrumentals, or maybe combined instrumentals more evenly with vocals, it would’ve felt more cohesive. A lot of the instrumental tracks stood out and were lovely whereas a lot of the tracks that included vocals didn’t really ring any bells for me. The album felt younger than 1975 within the instrumental tracks. I think the lyrics were— for the most part— interesting, but easily the weakest part of the album. There are some songs I’ll be adding to my playlist, but a lot of them felt forgettable, even within the album.

There are some interesting things going on here, especially on the instrumental numbers, which most of the tracks are. I can here the beginnings of Brian Eno's well-known ambient explorations to follow. (John Cale, Robert Fripp, and Phil Collins -- among others -- contributed to this album. Very cool.)

Not my favourite Eno stuff, but it was fine.

Interesting project, no liked songs but saved in library

Som legalzinho

nothing special

Solid. Nothing spectacular. 3/5

Never knew that station ident was Eno.

reminds me of low by david bowie, i see why people like this and it could definitely grow on me but didnt really enjoy it on first listen

This album feels cinematic, like each track should be playing during a shot in an award winning film. This also means that the album can fade to the background though, which made it less engaging for a stand alone listen. It also felt like many of the songs ended before they should be done, which was unsatisfying. Favorite track was st elmos fire.

Quite repetitive and boring but 2nd half is calming. Stand-out: Golden Hours

Weird feels music

A collection of prog-pop vignettes. Not bad actually (possibly helped by the fact that any given piece is rather short).

3/5 Very interesting for its time Quite enjoyed Melodic, electronic

It's so hard to judge music that has instrumentals all through it. Yeah, the music is great, but how often am I really going to listen to it? This album, especially the songs with lyrics, really grew on me as I continued to listen. Would I ever just put this album on? Probably not. I'm interested in hearing more of Eno's work, though I would like to hear a similar sound with more vocals.

Not my cup of tea, nothing grabbed my attention.

to be honest, the sound of another green world is exactly what i imagined a brian eno album to sound like. mostly instrumental, and a mix of electronic, ambient, art/experimental. the vocals themselves weren't anything special, because eno's strength lies in the instrumentals. maybe the album as a whole could be considered boring, but the instrumentals could have such moments of beautiful brilliance that i wasn't bored. these types of instrumentals were still new and different for 1975--not to mention the kind of creativity that went into this album. there were fiddle-like and outer-space sounds, and i don't know how the album managed to sound cohesive, but eno managed it.

This was an intriguing listen! I found this to be enjoyable music, though I wasn't really moved by it. I would say the highlight of the album for me was the background piano. It always sounded a bit mystical, as if each track had short little piano "themes" dancing across them. This was a creative endeavor, and while not particularly wowed, I never knew what was coming next. Certainly a unique listen! This is one of those albums I'd like to return to for more listens and pick up on new nuances!

Expectations were on the floor after "music for airports"

There's probably too many Brian Eno albums on this list. This is the 5th one I've reviewed, not sure how many more there are. Anyway, this one is not doing anything for me. Just bored and uninterested throughout.

During my first playthrough this left with no real impression, even though Brian Eno is often brought up as a pioneer in electronic music. I was working while listening and nothing really stood out. I skimmed again now just before writing this, and it's actually not that bad, but not great either. I think it just passed my by since it's mostly ambient and mellow stuff. It would work much better as soundtrack to a movie rather than a typical album. Might be something I'd put on again while working. Weak 3 overall, not that exciting.

Very ambient and different. It didn't really leave any big impression but it was still nice. I think i need to listen to this a bit more to have a real opinion. Could be anywhere between a 2 and a 4 so I'll give it 3 for now. "Sombre Reptiles" was quite cool.

Ganz cool eigentlich!

"The Big Ship" is one of my favorites for a long time. The rest of the album is just so weird and intriguing, but overall I think it settles as an average album for me. I come back to it every once in a while, but it doesn't quite click with me like Eno's ambient stuff does.

3.5/5 needed more weed for this prolly but still a vintage fun time. Love a dark atmospheric synth

It was ok

6/10. Pretty good album once you get past the super abrasive first song. Not quite my thing though

Intriguing album and no doubt influential to the electronic genre.

I tried to put my "year 1975" shoes on to understand this album, its background, and the weight it had on music, and it was not an easy task. It demands attention, context, and a pinch of musical snobbism to appreciate it completely. Unluckily, I do not count on these attributes today since it is summer, school is closed, and I have been dealing with a 5-year-old that does not give rest to my soul. I think I am adding this to my backlog and moving to the next album.

Long live Eno

I don't dislike it, I just don't see the point of it

Good but there are better Eno albums out there!

Interesting album. Not sure if it's good for background music, or putting on headphones for a dedicated play through.

58 of 1001 Brian Eno - Another Green World Favorite Track : I'll Come Running Rating : 3.5 / 5 Awesome ambient music. Eno was doing some new things. The first couple of tracks were a little too electronic for me, but it picked up. Can appreciate the man's talent and vision. Certainly one to keep in the library.

First song isn't great. I like St Elmo's Fire, The Big Ship, and Little Fishes. So far it feels like there are some good songs, one or two nothing songs, and some average songs. Every song sounds so different it feels like I'm shuffling a random playlist. The short interludes were interesting. I think this is one of the most engaged I've been on an album so far because I'm really trying to determine if I like it or not. I would say this is an enjoyable listen. I appreciate the originality, but I'm not going to listen to this one again.

Decent.

Bizarre album, not even sure what to say

Love a bit of Eno baby! This wasn’t his best ever but it was good. Couple of duff tracks but overall it was a pleasant listen.

It's pretty crazy that this album was recorded in 1975. There's a lot of modern ideas here. For the most part I found it pleasant to listen to, but there was nothing really that grabbed me except for the track "Everything Merges With the Night" which I really loved. I can see a lot of influence on Smashing Pumpkins in that track.

Progressive and good sounding. Rounded up to a three

Struggled to get this to 3. Not much spark.

pretty alright, interesting stuff

Interesting

An album I suspect I need to explore further before making a final decision. There is curiosity value to it and you can see clearly the roots for later work with Bowie and Talking Heads.

Particolare

Just when I thought I didn't know anything about Brian Eno along comes the title track, and can confirm, yes it's from Arena... So apparently it's seminal, it's certainly technical. It's pleasant that's for sure, but I'm struggling to be able to analyse much more of this.

Pleasant but mostly unmemorable.

I like the textures and minimalist feel. Robert Fripp makes great contributions, remiscent of what he did for Bowie a couple years later, especially on the openning track. Phil Collins, I've always found to be a highly creative drummer - it's a shame he decided to pick up a microphone. Speaking of picking up a microphone I'm not sure if it's Eno's voice or phrasing that I find off putting but I could barely listen to his singing, and for that I deduct a point.

castanet guitars and Leslie piano have never sounded better. Or worse. nor has the gorilla on drums

Pop rock. Original.

Another Green World is the fourth album recommended for Brian Eno on this list for me. I still generally like his work, but this album is like the others I have listened to in that the final rating is a little mixed. The album is uneven, particularly when it comes to the tracks with vocals. "I'll Come Running" is the track I'd probably skip on a re-listen. I don't think I can round up to a full four stars, but I liked a lot of what I heard.

Me hace acordar al gabi nervi

Nogmaals luisteren

It was ok. I thought it would be a bit more trippy than it was, but it was quite tame.

Thought I would enjoy this album a lot more than I actually did. I'm a big fan of Eno's work especially on Remain in Light. I didn't enjoy a good few of the songs on this album but I respect Eno for experimenting with sounds even though there are a few pop tracks on this album that weren't bad at all. Overall 7/10

Ça m'a semblé court!

Fripp, John Cale, erm Phil Collins. Fripp's guitar contribution makes the album. You can hear how Bowie wanted him to do the work on Heroes. I like the idea of how Eno was working against pop music at this time. Especially given his Roxy background. This sounds like a bridge to punk in ethos, but most definitely not in substance. He's not the greatest songwriter, but he knows how to put a song together

Interesting. I don’t think I’ll come back to listen to it again, but I’m not mad at what I heard

Treads the line between the genius and the eccentric, and not so carefully. It also demonstrates where U2's best albums came from.

Exactly what you can expect from Eno. Ambience. Not a bad album to have in the background.

Because Eno strays from his own ambience niche by incorporating some normal songs with vocals in this album, it has to be compared to all the albums out there. And this is where the album fails to convince, it's just very unremarkable and forgettable

Enjoyable tracks with some structure and groove, not as alien as you might assume.

ok for background, but fairly boring and dissonant

18th October 2022 Listened in the afternoon and finished in the morning of the Wednesday. Watched Blonde in the evening. Ethereal and magical, the production is clean and sharp. 3.5 if I could.

Another Brian Eno album 🙄 I definitely enjoyed this album more than I have his others -- it had good flow and definitely was more interesting to me than the others I've listened to. The music still tends to fade into the background though.

It’s not terrible - but like some other solo Brian Eno albums - does it need to exist?

The blueprint for indie prog rock. Weird in a sort of cool way. It drags a little bit but is overall a fine experience. Especially to my fresh ears having NEVER really listened to Eno previously.

Not my fav Eno, but a good one.

Pop elegante y fácil de escuchar. Buena voz e instrumentalmente, correcto.

I actually bought this album on vinyl probably 30 years ago, and I have to admit I've hardly listened to it. It was good to revisit though. Some interesting stuff on here, although it sometimes veers into elevator music territory. Not a fan of Eno's voice though. 3 stars.

I liked this more than I was expecting to.

This felt like listening to a playlist on shuffle. A nice mix of some of the best and some of the worst songs ever created. Eno's music always gives me vibes like I should be listening to it in one of those sensory deprivation tanks to get the full experience, because I kind of have trouble focusing on the more ambient tracks.

It's good but not my type

Nice Mike Oldfield/movie soundtrack vibes. Pretty good.

This wasn’t as way out as I was expecting and I enjoyed it. I think I even recognised a track from a soundtrack. Solid 3*

This was hit and miss. Like some of the more ambitious numbers...

Meh. Ok album, no stand out tracks. Its OK for relaxing, I guess. 3/5

Not much here for me beyond the guitars, which made me think about Big Red Machine. Excited for the more ambient stuff though.

Great background music, it's hard to dislike but it's not easy to get excited about it either.

This slowly faded into the background as my attention waned. I liked what I payed attention to, and I’ll probably listen again. I like and enjoy some Roxy Music and Brian Eno. But mostly for, well, ambiance.
