Classic Eno 3+
First, I don't actually know Brian Eno's early solo music, though I do like Roxy Music. His name for me evokes \"ambient\" -- I have the app Bloom which I thought was great. So starting with just that shaky foundation, looking at this album, I don't know what to make of the title or the art. Starts out with Needles In The Camels Eye which I immediately link to the camel cigs in the album art maybe it's a big find it in the photo game? Otherwise the song strikes me as pretty forgettable. The next song, The Paw Paw Negro Blowtorch, I like quite a bit but then gets weird in a way that doesn't make me want to put it in heavy rotation. Next up Baby's on Fire (better throw her in the water) sounds quite cool and is clearly clever. Solid guitar solo. But my first listen left me cold I had to go back and play it again to start to see what's good about it. I want to be the kind of person that appreciates experimental music and can immediately soak in the new ideas and revel in the weirdness. But I found it took several listens to start to get enjoyment from these songs. In other words, this album was a little bit of a chore. The creativity and confidence are evident. Clearly an important album. I love me some Bowie, Talking Heads, etc and Eno pushing the envelope is clearly how we get there. The album is brimming with ideas. But am I going to want to listen to this over and over for pleasure? No, I don't think so. I do, however, respect it.
I liked this much more than the other Eno one I got. I would listen to it again.
I actually enjoyed this album i thought it was funky and fun to listen to! 3.5/5
I don't think I fully "get" this album. (...yet?...) It's not bad - there's a lot of melody in here. But in terms of songs and structure/writing, there's far less. And yet from reading about it that seems exactly the intent. Brain..lacking..anchor. Something I definitely appreciate from Eno's own words was that lyrics were a true afterthought for many of these songs, if not all - making the voice "just" another instrument. e.g. "On Some Faraway Beach" is nearly all instrumental with a lovely if not simple melody and the vocals don't come in until late in the song, almost as just an orchestral addition. I like that non-traditional aspect of it. Yet for every time I think I enjoy the different aspect/s of the album, I find myself reaching for something to sink into. Some hook or memorable chorus - anything - to keep me coming back. e.g. "Dead Finks Don't Talk" is ... different. 4 minutes of being different within itself. I love the piano / drum march intro then the vocals join which are most unexpected and jarring. This song is a good microcosm of the album itself. 6/10 3 stars - I think this is a tough one to give much higher on only one or two listens - potential slow burn and will come back to this one.
Not a bad album but a lot of it is pretty unique instrumentals. It’s experimental and in the 70s it probably has some first sounds. Nothing I’d return to though. 5.8/10
Experimental glam rock, yet detailed and polished, and it hit the heady heights of 26 in the album charts at some point in 1973, and that's what it is, a minor hit for a minority. Why would I listen to this again?
Quirky like Bowie but nowhere near as cool
Weird. Kinda good, kinda bad. Think this one needs to sink in a bit more before I decide whether I actually like it or not. For now it's a 3 star for me.
Hey pretty good. Got a little weird towards the end but it's Brian Eno. I was a bit surprised the first half of the album WASN'T as weird as I was expecting.
This was a unique album. Each song sounded notably different from one another in a good way. Fav song: Driving Me Backwards
Second listen. I heard this first from the Rolling Stone top 500 list. First time, I thought it was ok, but this time the songs are really sticking with me. I am enjoying the sounds and lyrics. Definitely fits the time with other acts like David Bowie. 3/5.
Actually quite liked it
3.5/5
not baddd
am unusual and confusing mix of sounds. reminds one of Bowie + Elvis Costello
Punk. A bit weird
babys of fire
Favs: Needles in the Camel's Eyes / Some Of Them Are Old Score: Decent 3
Skemmtilega experimental.
Okay
This was fine, not really my cup of tea
Quite a boring album but it got me listening to some newer stuff of his and enjoy the instrumental ones
3.5
look what funny sounds i can make
Pretty good but didn't blow me away.
Quién invito a Ryan emo... Nocierto si está dos trenzas ...3
I feel like this is what you would get if the Talking Heads were one guy and somehow a bit weirder. Still some catchy stuff but overall pretty out there.
Brian Eno is so interesting for all of the different sounds and space he likes to explore. His first solo album is really centered around a mix of glam rock and "art pop" that seemed to be the avant-garde sound of the time, picking up where he left off with Roxy Music. However, a lot of these songs take influence outside of those genres and bend them to fit a thematic record. "Cindy Tells Me" for example takes the framework of a Beach Boys-esque pop song and throws in a psychedelic approach by adding in distorted guitars. This isn't the space that I most celebrate Eno as an artist, but it's also uncharted territory for me. It's music that takes time to sink in. Overall, it lays the groundwork for one of the most brilliant producers the music industry has ever seen, and it's a really fun album if this is your type of wheelhouse. Favorite Song: Baby's On Fire Least Favorite Song: Drive Me Backwards
Is this good? Is this bad? Who knows? It is just uncategorisable. I listen once I think it’s absolute drivel. I listen again, I think there’s something incredible to it. You can tell Eno has some spark of genius/madness and the contribution he made to Roxy Music, Bowie and Talking Heads is discernible from this record. Do I want to listen again? Yes. And also no. I’m not reaching for the album anytime soon. But I am adding it to my library. The three stars isn’t fair but it’s all I have right now. It’s a placeholder until I make up my mind. Is this a one star? Or a five star?
Reminds me of Bowie, and its a little shoegazey in places too. Overall not super exciting though
Quite good album, not amazing.
This was mostly pretty good. Particularly liked Baby's on Fire; Cindy Tells Me. Didn't really like: Driving Me Backwards; Blank Frank; Dead Finks Don't Talk.
3/5 niceish album, but not enough
Not so sure about this…
I feel like I would enjoy this more if there weren't sounds or vocal stylings in at least every second song that feel like they were put there with the express purpose of being annoying.
Avant garde
Familiar glam flavours … Bowie, Roxy and 50’s recreations Like the more left field Eno
un poco psicodelia está guay pero se me ha hecho largo
Ok
Not sure what I just listened to, but it wasn't all bad, I guess? I see people comparing it to Bowie and I'm confused because this is nothing like Bowie unless you just think everything weird is 'like Bowie.'
This is kind of what the previous album should have been. While I think Barry Adamson took himself too seriously in not taking himself seriously, this strikes a better balance. More musically interesting and innovative too. Favourite track: “Some of Them Are Old”
Smorgasbord of an album but overall pleasant listening.
Good? Presumably very conceptual for the time but it didn’t grip me really.
...und du sahst aus wie der junge Brian Eno ...nachweinen guten Tag!
kind of annoying but catchy... nice vibe production-wise "driving backwards" is HORRENDOUS my god i had to turn it off just shut up "some of them are old" is quite nice last song is shoegaze amazing
Pretty cool
Had moments but I did not like what was done with the vocals, might have been something in the harmonies that was throwing me off. Also did not listen to this album in the best mood so I skipped the back half of a couple songs once they had lost me.
Love the creativity and the shoegaze-esque atmosphere. Very ahead of its time. Solid album, strong 3 low 4.
Ok
An interesting one for sure, but not really a strong record IMO
i liked the songs later in the album - soothing
I've been a big fan of Eno for a long time, both his solo works and also his incredible producing with the Davids Bowie and Byrne. This is not my favorite album, though. It's a bit too poppy, and nothing like his later ambient works. It's just fine!
Quite a few songs that I greatly enjoyed, quite a few that I didn’t care for. A perfect 3
Experimental, but without direction which makes it hard to follow at times.
Rock experimental. Interesante
bowie-esque
Got better as it went on. Loved a couple - On Some Faraway Beach & Here Come the Warm Jets
Weird
Better than Roxy music. He’s a music icon, but never listened. Thought this would be more experimental. There was some fun experiments especially with the last few songs, made it worth it.
While the front half of this album tends to lose the plot in all its production tricks, the back half manages to nail the balance between instrumentation and cohesion. A solid Bowie-esque experimental album all around.
Worth a listen but nothing remarkable
Very unmemorable. Nothing much to dislike, but nothing I particularly enjoyed either.
Really diverse set of songs, good for mind wandering
Felt like a Bowie album ahah. Good listen
Roxy music -lite
Super disjointed / not a cohesive sound throughout … a few highs but a lot of wtf songs. Didn’t really enjoy it 2
I don't think I'm smart enough to appreciate bryan eno.
No entiendo a Brian Eno
In Season 4, Episode 7 of Friends - The One Where Chandler Crosses a Line - Ross brings out a keyboard and plays wordless sound poems. Apparently he and Chandler has a band in college called Way No Way. This reminds me of that.
Nah brother. Just a really average rock album with bleeps and bloops. I really like Brian eno, like really love his ambient work, but this was not it.
It’s fine. Not really my thing.
Whimsy and etherealness mixed in with nonsensical lyrics and unorthodox song structure. Points for the spacy vibe of the music (as I also picked up in my listen of Roxy Music) but just not something I can comfortably and joyfully sit through given the pointlessness of it all
Digno disco, nada especial. temas que irritaban, temas que todo bien.
Driving me backwards is absolute rubbish. Some tracks worth listening to but nothing to make me want to listen again.
Mutiger/progressive sound, aber teilweise zu wild und nicht so gut
I didn’t really get this, and I didn’t like it.
Brian Eno hat in soviel Sachen seine Finger drin und ich finde alle scheiße
Nothing stuck with me
wat een kabaal.
There were a couple if thought I might like. But, nope
I thought I would like this more than I did.
It's alright. Some songs are just repetitive, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but not really my jam. Best song on the album in my opinion is "Some Of Them Are Old" that one is good
I've heard this a few times and find it interesting, but perhaps because it's influential, it doesn't sound as fresh or exciting as it probably did when it was released. Still, something to check in with periodically. High 2s.
It's just one of those that I didn't really enjoy.
Once again, I just don’t get Brian Eno. Looking into previous ratings he seems to be consistently a 2.5/5 artist for my tastes. This was a decent listen but also quick and manic interruptions of weird avant-garde cacophonies of grating noise didn’t work in my opinion. 2.5/5 rating down this time
Kept one song
Meh
I’ll pretend you didn’t make this album, Brian… Bonus star awarded because there as some genuine creative moments. “Some Of Them Are Old” sounded pretty alright. I liked the Hawaiian slide guitars; very Spongebob. Unfortunately, these fleeting moments are drowned out by the overwhelming weirdness of the rest of the album.
I’m thinking I don’t care for Brian Eno…luckily there are only…3 more of his albums to get through on this list…
Odd
I'm really mixed on this one. Some of the songs I was vibing with and others pushed me away. I'd never heard of Brian Eno before so I may need to check out some more of his work before forming an opinion on his music.
There's something about 70s "art rock" that I don't like. It seems overly grandiose/dramatic to me. Having said that, I'm a sucker for a noisy Robert Fripp guitar solo, like the epic one on Baby's On Fire.
Not my cup of tea. 2.5
3/10 I found it pretty dull
I didn't warm to this. It sounded like some obscure indie outfit from 2000s so I Guess ahead of it's time?
Never heard of this guy before and I see I have not missed anything. Terrible.
This isn't something you listen to. It's something you have to endure.
Rock, 1974 -> 2
This is a fine example how experiments can go wrong.
Enimmäkseen rokkia. Vähän taiteellista tai kokeellista sellaista, mutta oli myös miellyttäviä hetkiä. Kokonaisuutena ei kummiskaan oikein ihmeellinen. Parhaat: On Some Faraway Beach, Some Of Them Are Old
Good album! didn't leave a massive impression on me tbh but don't have anything negative about it either
sounded over produced and a waste of some good talent. Album would have been better without Brian Eno
This was ok, but damned irritating at points. Very Bowie-esque sound that tries too hard at times. Just be a good rock album and stop interrupting the flow with stupid avant-gard bullshit.
I gave it a second listen just in case, but no better next time round. The vocals grated, the experimental sounds annoying
Kinda boring to me, something felt very 'flat' about the audio/the mixing.
Mostly just noise 2
Wasn’t really feeling this at all.
Honestly not a fan of this album but i liked 2 songs but I love his album music for airports
Experimental/art/avant pop and glam rock. Most of the tracks are really annoying. Several of them start out as just slightly annoying glam rock tracks, but then in the middle of the song, Brian Eno decides to throw in some weird ass instrumentals that make you wonder what you're listening to. The only track I thought was decent was "Baby's on Fire". 1.5 stars.
ol’ sourpuss himself.
Eno is a weird guy and for the early 70s this must have been new and out there or something. Doesn't really land today though. His debut solo album has some semblance of a well crafted work with a bunch of muppetry thrown in for good measure. Background squeaks, squawks, and robots make the record sound a bit juvenile but I can't say I didn't like that aspect. It's just a strange compilation and I'm neither enthralled nor disheartened by this one. Wonder what wild creations Eno and Zappa could have created if they teamed up on a project. Watch out because Here Come the Warm Jets at 1.94 stars.
yeah fun i guess, not super memorable. one song had cool drums
Hugely influential artist... 2 Stars
Unfortunately found it a bit boring
Forgettable, its a one and done record ill likely never play again Standout - on some faraway beach
That was a hard album to listen to
First song was alright, 2 and 3 made me feel a bit ill. Cindy Tells Me had a nice bit of Bowie going on. Then Driving Me Backwards upset me again. Enjoyed the title track.
2/5
I can't deny that it's pretty creative, but it's not for me. I didn't really like it.
Mich hat das Album nicht mitgenommen. Der Sound an sich ist ok, manches experimentell. Aber nichts, was ich regelmäßig hören möchte. 2/5
Mostly OK, but I didn't really find it interesting, although Dead Finks Don't Talk was irritating beyond description. Very glad he got into ambient music instead of this shit. I can sort-of hear the beginning of this direction in the final, title track.
3eme album proposé après 'My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts' (noté 2/5) et 'Before And After Science' (noté 3/5). =>2/5
Enjoyed the first song. The rest gave me a headache
Weird art pop/rock. Felt too esoteric and different for the sake of being different.
Un disco raro. Con canciones melódicamente buenas pero que están retocadas para darle una vuelta de tuerca distinta y experimental. A veces logra convencerme, la mayoría no. 3/10
Wasn’t into this
Various noises that I didn’t feel much towards
Not another Eno album 😭 it's better than the last one but that's not saying much
4/10 - hmm disappointing, when I saw Brian Eno pop up I got excited but this is such a non-Brian Eno album... but have to give credit to him for evolving
*1973. British dude. *This sounds like a bunch of B-side Beatles tracks... some okay stuff, but mostly not. RATING - 5/10
It was ok, but not anything great. Unexpected more given his producer career
In my experience, when someone tells you that an artist isn’t for everyone, but this album is their most accessible, it never bodes well. An once again “Here Comes the Warm Jets” proves it to be true. Eno’s “different” way to make albums may inspire artists to make great art (U2), but left to his own devices the songs are just…weird.
- Uhm, speciaal. - 0 nummers toegevoegd aan MMMM - 0 nummer al toegevoegd aan MMMM 2*
Bubbling with ideas. Lots of interesting songs but the vocals are awful. File with the velvet underground as the critics choice but does anybody listen to this 51 years on. It is certainly a level above the mush that is portrayed as music now but that is the equivalent boast of beating your cat at darts.
The Eno-Sphere is vast and contains multitudes of great works. But at its center is a black hole of albums that I can't seem to enjoy. King Crimson, Roxy Music, and Eno's solo stuff just leave me flat. The "kitchen sink" approach has earned him "genius" status, but a bit more focus and restraint might go a long way towards earning my attention.
Boring sorry, just some bullshitting around, felt like a mix of psychedelic rock and like musak that plays at a massage place or something, at times I see why it's here because it sounds like shoegaze done 15 years early and that's cool but I don't really like this album much; this really didn't resonate with me at all
After 3 or 4 Eno albums I’ve come to several conclusions. 1.I don’t get it.
Not my jam. Too noisy, aimless guitar solos
Boring
Well, they tried.
Some good stuff here for sure, although experimental ambient/pop is not really something I ever actively choose to listen to.
Just… noise. It’d be a 1.5 if I could give it that but just… no
Ok 2/5
What a strange mix of music. Some of the songs are alright but there were definitely some duds and more noisy ones.
Yeah, turns out I don't like Brian Eno when he sings. There's so much music he's touched that I think is fantastic. This is a solo effort/Roxy branch that I don't think that way about. There are some interesting moments, mostly instrumental. It was already in my streaming library, but I'm not sure it will stay there.
Oh look, art music. I just don’t care.
Meh
Najpierw pomieszanie ciekawych zabiegów z mega denerwującymi dźwiękami. Potem im dalej w las tym więcej nudy
Pues no me ha gustado demasiado, un poco estruendoso para mi gusto.
I liked it more than other Brian eno but still think he might not be for me
Thought, or hoped, I would like this but did not. Not a fan of the affected voice he used at times. Musically somewhat interesting but collectively not for me.
He is not okay
The wiki article says ", and blends glam and pop stylings with avant-garde approaches". Avant-garde indeed. I don't think Brian Eno is ok.
I did not particularly enjoy this record at all and I have zero interest in revisiting it.
Shoulda stayed with Roxy.
Hmm, bit strange.
eh
The more annoying end of glam.
Second Brian Eno album sounds a little like the Talking Heads. It's derivative
A mishmash of random nonsense
Hmmm... This was a difficult one. Challenging to listen to with some very busy tracks and chaotic arrangements, but still was musically cohesive. Intermixed between the chaos were more calming, simple tracks. I appreciated the accomplishment but didn't enjoy the experience.
I’m not sure I see the value in experimental music. Don’t we pretty much have pop music figured out? Verse, chorus, verse. The I, V, vi, and IV chords of C – G – Am – F in the key of C major. We’ve got it. Do you play with the combinations and add your own spin? Absolutely. But we don’t really need people to experiment with the fundamentals. We’ve got those figured out. It’s like cake. Flour, sugar, eggs, butter, milk. Do you play with the combinations and add your own spin? Absolutely. The person who decided to put icing on the exterior was a genius. The person who added raspberries on top had a neat idea. But we don’t really need people to experiment with the fundamentals. We’ve got those figured out. Do we need you to take out flour and replace it with broccoli and see what happens? No. Or maybe, but I’m not going to eat it. Feel free to conduct the replacing flour with broccoli experiment and you eat it and go “oh, well that didn’t work but I suppose it was worth a try” and throw whatever that is away. Don’t then sell it in your bakery and say “come try this experimental cake and see how bad it is.” Anyway, I suppose that if you’re not going to make music that sounds good and that people enjoy that this is kind of the next best thing.
A collection of ideas, not really coherent.
I want to listen to more Ambient Eno. This isn't that. 2/5
Weird doesn’t always mean good
Hmmm ... did not convince me. Brian Eno has made so many great songs. But they are not to be found on this album.
The experimental nature of this album is neat, but a lot of the sounds just aren't to my taste. I might re-listen to this later, but for now it's just too much noise.
sehr lärmig. am afang hets teils no geili idee oder übergäng zwüsched de songs. aber mit de zit wird s album eintönig.
Das meiste beim ersten Hören zu experimentell. Fav: Dead Finks Don't Talk
Not my style
Not a huge fan at all. Glam and Avante garde are not for me.
Not bad for a first album. It’s clearly still a bit chaotic and rough around the edges, but there are a few great moments here and there. I liked the riffs in Baby’s On Fire, and Driving Me Backwards struck a chord with me. I totally understand why Eno and Bowie would click later on. I would have given it a 3* for the instruments alone, but I really disliked most of the singing (Dead Finks was almost painful), so it’s closer to a 2*. Definitely not a bad album, it grew on me as I listened, and I enjoyed it more than I would have imagined... but I don’t think I’ll replay it anytime soon. 4/10
Found this to be fairly hard to listen to. I can hear the elements that shows talent but talent does not always make for great music. Or even particularly good.
I don't know how to feel about this one. It is intriguing to me. I may return to it.
enjoyed the start didnt love it as it went on
another day, another album that makes me wonder why it's on the list.....
holy shit all I hear is talking heads. a couple of good stuff but the rest is just meh🤷
Well that was an interesting album. It wasn't very good. But at least it was interesting.
This album did not sound like I was relaxing on some faraway beach, oh no sir. I mean, neither was it awful, but this art rock album felt too much like the Beach Boys and not enough of Brian Eno's unique music personality. I mean, there was electronic sounds like R2-D2. I learned Eno was ahead of George Lucas.
Not as spacey as a lot of his stuff.
Loud guitars and yelling
Little weird. Songs were long.
Tredje plattan. Suck!
2.5
Nah
We've had quite a lot of Brian Eno albums on this list. I also keep hearing how Brian Eno is one of the first electronic music pioneers. Having heard a few albums now, I must say I don't understand the fascination with him at all. He does have some tasteful tunes here and there, but it's mostly VERY mediocre to me. Perhaps it was groundbreaking when it came out, but it feels very beige now. This album feels like a mix between a musical and Talking Heads. You're never sure whether it's sincere or not. The weird screams at the end of 'Dead Finks Don't Talk' is a perfect example of this. It sounds ridiculous, but I'm pretty sure Brian thought it was dope. No particularly noteworthy song here, all felt pretty boring and I'm glad it's over. Pretty tired of Brian Eno as well honestly, and I hope this is the last we see of him on this album. Time can be better spent on other more joyful things.
bofbof
This album was just noise to me. I usually listen to these while I work, but it was very distracting.
Sometimes noisy and offbeat, with occasional similarities to the Velvet Underground’s use of distortion. It sits somewhere between glam and pop, with just the right touch of experimentation. Unfortunately, it’s not always successful, despite some strong moments. Very close to Bowie, perhaps too close, but ultimately less compelling.
Snaaaaark
Very avant garde, nothing special here for me though. It’s decent but nothing to write home about.
So I'm sure this was brave and innovative at the time, so I don't want to speak too badly of it. That means I'm not going to say much. A couple of the tracks come very close to sounding like songs.
Not at all what I was expecting from Eno - not for me.
Weird
Like all Eno albums on here, this is pretty bad.
This album was a little too avant-garde for me. Not great. What the fuck was "Driving Me Backwards?" I could have gone my whole life without that one. Definitely didn't love it, but this had moments ("Needles In The Camel's Eye") which makes it a 2 instead of a 1. I just am not a Brian Eno fan apparently Liked Songs: "Needles In The Camel's Eye" , "Cindy Tells Me" , "On Some Faraway Beach"
almost liked songs: Some Of Them Are Old, Here Come The Warm Jets This just isn't enjoyable. The sounds on this album are far too annoying; effects, instruments, vocals, they're all annoying. 1.5
Liked a couple of songs. The soundscape was often cool. But the singing mostly drove me nuts. 2/5
I'm really not a fan of this album. I don't think it's bad music, just not my style.
The little exposure that I have had to Brian Eno has led me to believe that I didn’t like his music at all. But I didn’t mind this album so much…to use some other reviewers’ words, it seems to be more accessible. My favorite track was probably On Some Faraway Beach, which is for the most part an instrumental track, and has this dream-like ethereal quality to it. I could see playing this song if I really needed to relax. But in the end, I just didn’t like this album much…I can understand, however, how this may appeal to others. But for me, it’s a two star record.
Mixed bag. After reading the bio of Brian Eno it sounds like he’s great at producing so some of these songs were really cool or had parts I really liked but for his own artistic expression there were parts I hated that I think I can only contribute to his choices. The way he sings on Driving me Backwards drove me insane. I really disliked the first half of Dead Finks Don’t Talk but really enjoyed the second half. Enough to get over the first half even, but not enough to get over Driving me Backwards. I could see someone liking that song for the same reasons I dislike it so I think it’s a taste thing but I can’t get over it. Would’ve been a 3 otherwise.
this album had me at first being like, "aight this is fun" and then the album continued and I was like, "this is less fun" and then the last two songs, i really just hoped it was over. not the worst thing ive heard... so a two stars it is
Can’t tell if this list has me burnt out on 70s British rock, or if this just isn’t a good album. There are definitely moments here and there where it shows some promise, but the majority feels like it drags on with monotonous rhythms and randomly placed noises. A couple decent tracks but other than that, nothing that stood out or that makes me want to come back.
I really liked the first song, but what happened to the rest of the album?
I'm really very grateful that music and artists like this exist, as they really pushed the envelope and showed that what was possible, musically, could be so much more interesting and different than what came before. I'm also very happy that the music created afterwards means we don't have to pretend that this is good anymore.
I love many things Eno was part of, but The Warm Jets is not one of those things. It's pretentious babbly art pop that can't finish. It's four in the morning, you had too much whiskey, and you don't have any Isaac Hayes to make it over the finish line. Here and there, you get it right, while elsewhere, things just go a little dry. In no way does the music on this record relate to me or evoke an emotion; it's one night in Paris for me. Sure, I will return here and there as I have over the years but not sure it will ever click, then again sometimes I just prefer to cum on and feel the noize.
Favorite Track: Dead Finks Don’t Talk
this is not what i expected. the first song is good. this has robert fripp on it which is pretty cool. the 2nd and 3rd songs are like david bowie. so i dont really like those ones. Driving me backwards is an absolutely beautiful semi-ambient song, i absolutely adore it. I HATE Blank Frank. the background vocals on Dead Finks are awful. the weird machine ending was kinda cool though. as much as i loved the more ambient songs, the rest of the album was kinda awful.
Just can't really get into this one. art pop with an experimental bent. feels deliberately subversive to traditional pop sounds while maintaining the structure and melody, but ultimately I don't find it enjoyable to listen to, outside of a couple tunes (Dead Finks don't talk, Baby's on Fire) but ultimately, I'll skip this one for his ambient stuff.
Many songs sound like a bad David Bowie cosplay, despite being before a lot of Bowie's work which is kinda weird. It gets better listening with full headphones instead of IEMs
I was only aware of Brian Eno's more atmospheric stuff, which is better than this. I guess he had to start somewhere, but it doesn't mean this album should have been included here. 2*
Happy to never listen to this again.
The first track kind of felt like a tease. It felt like 80s gothy pop synth (which is one of my favorites). Then the rest of the album felt REALLY 70s glam rock (which is one of my least favorites) and I just wasn't into it. Highlights: Needles in the Camel's Eye
Brian Eno is such a weird dude
3/10 - So many of these songs are not enjoyable to listen to. I enjoyed On Some Faraway Beach a lot but Blank Frank and Driving me Backwards were not good at all.
Explores the edges of music, not usually in a way that I enjoy. I found it more irritating.
There’s an idea in there somewhere but it is not executed in a way that makes it listenable
I'm surprised to not really enjoy this as I've really loved a lot of his production, especially when he leans into the "weirder" stuff. Im not so into 50s or glam rock and that comes through a lot here and tbh his voice is just kind of annoying to me.
It was ok
bah blah blah
Mostly noises
Jeg er stadig ikke fan. Der er ind imellem spændende elementer. Men alt for lagt imellem dem.
Never really got this
Weird vibes, not really my thing
Found this one ok but quite boring. He should stick to the meditation tunes.
In every song, there was a weird noise in it at some point, which resulted in me having a headache by the end of this. But it still isn't his worst effort on here.
boring
Is this before Brian Eno invented his own genre?
As diverse and creative as I expected. But that didn’t make it any good.
I did not like this album. 2 stars
weird, ok, didnt finish
Not everyone who did acid made good music
The worst I've heard from Eno. He should've stuck to instrumentals.
2.5 Respect Eno plenty but it mostly wasn’t for me
Ok. Better than I thought. Bit groundbreaking. Not rubbish. Amongst the best? No, not really. Kinda experimental which is a theme here. High 2 stars? Maybe?
The older Eno is so much better.
There are a few points that remind you that this was capable of being good, but the rest was too avant-garde to be enjoyable
This brian eno guy sucks
Musicians stop being annoying challenge.
Doesn't push the envelope quite as far as it could and gets caught in a musical no mans land as a result. Maybe it's because I had a King Crimson album yesterday, but this feels like it just doesn't do enough. Gets stronger as it goes through.
I could pick out some cool moments, like the outros or the shoegaze song, but the core of it is not very interesting
left my head just as quick as it had entered
I am horribly sad and maybe my sadness is worse than this album because I kinda liked it.
- This album sometimes embodies the phrase 'critics can't make art' - It feels like he's throwing all the right ingredients into the pot but the end product is less than the sum of its parts and just comes out being weird for weird's sake - The talking heads influence is palpable, but it comes off as more of a bad imitation - The tracks don't do a great job of blending instruments at times, they feel disjointed like his Garageband looping track got away from him"
Really not for me
The best I can say about this album is: it was creative. Maybe a little too creative. Points for sounding weird, but not much of it sounded good to these ears. 1.8
not horrible
This is a typical mid-70s album experience. I mean that not in a complimentary way.
70s rock, interesting but I will not listen to it again
2 out of 5. I could see (hear) what Brian Eno was trying to do with this album but it still droned on a bit too much, but there is a little fun to be had here.
That’s definitely fascinating but too weird for me to enjoy it very much. Brian Eno has a lot of interesting ideas, but he is not a good singer and only a couple of these songs really grab me. Still, I come away curious to hear his other albums. Best song: On Some Faraway Beach
Not in the mood.
I can’t stand his voice and it seems like he took all of the least pleasant aspects of experimental rock at the time and smushed them together.
Annoying.. I liked the outro, but maybe just because I knew it would soon be over...
A few songs were tolerable, but not enough.
Certainly better than his ambient music album that I got earlier, but still, I’ll always have problems with the choices Brian takes. His experimentation lent itself to being annoying. The whole thing was rather a bore. 2/5
Every time I started to like something on this album, something was going on that made me want to turn it off. Weird sounds, crazy nasally vocals, just weird.
Not sure why but not my thing.
Guess I'm not the Brian Eno market
I was expecting to enjoy this more than I did. I recognised the name Brian Eno so did some Googling and found him to be from Roxy Music. I’ve enjoyed the Roxy Music albums I’ve heard, so I went into this with some optimism. It’s just to wacky without enough wonder for me to me. I can see objectively that the music is interesting, but it just didn’t make for a pleasant listening experience. I like that going solo allowed him to work on quite different things, but I think I’ll stick with Roxy.
#291. This whole album is a bit "is this over yet?" This is the kind of shit you find for less than a dollar at used record stores in a desperate attempt to get rid of it. 2/5: yawn
The Pawpaw negro Blowtorch, wtf is deze muziek?
weird semi-experimental 70s pop w/ farty-sounding synths over beds of guitar harmonics & out-of-tune pianos. maybe notable for a "let's see how many different sounds we can coax out of guitars & synths" but I'll take Eno's work w/ Bowie over his solo stuff. Particularly the annoyingly grating "Oh no"s on Dead Finks. Ugh.
Not as good as his later ambient projects.
On Some Faraway Beach was nice. The album was mostly annoying, though.
bissl weird
Here Come the Warm Jets is the debut solo album by Brian Eno, originally released in 1974. This record was recorded and released after Eno left Roxy Music, on the grounds that he couldn't fully explore his musical ideas in the band. He tries to keep that same glam feel on this record, but adds some avant-garde flares like primitive electronics. The songs on here range from pop to straight up weird. You could tell Eno was starting to experiment more with electronics on some of the tracks. I'm not the biggest fan of Eno's voice and some of the weird vocal things he does are kinda annoying. This record is weird, but not my kind of weird. Never was a fan of the whole glam thing anyway. Eno's later work is much cooler imo.
well another weird album by Eno. 2 stars
Nah, not for me. I can't get into Brian Eno. I preferred the airports album over this one.
Aptly titled, this album was coming in “Luke Warm” vs coming in hot for sure. I didn’t necessarily hate this but it didn’t grab me much either. I tried to find something here, but the most interesting part is probably the album cover art.
I get it. Let’s throw some musicians together who might not normally gel, only to see what transpires. Art for art’s sake. But oof this was tough listen. There were some sounds here and there that I did like, but this exercise is not about 1001 Sounds You Must Hear Before You Die. Eno should’ve stuck it out a bit longer with Roxy Music.
I respect the creativity and some interesting sounds here, but I’ll never come back to this. Didn’t really enjoy it
It sounded like some cicadas popped up in the middle of Cindy tells me. I didn’t love that. Much of this was unpleasant noises. 1.75
Bored
alright nothing to write home about - 2.5/5 - in dead finks don't talk, it sounds like louis theroux is rapping at the 2:25 minute mark
Trash
Maybe this is important somehow but I did not enjoy it
I HATED driving me backwards. Favorite was here come the warm jets
I can't find a song off this album I want to hear again. But it did get me thinking about a few things. Paw Paw song; I lived in Paw Paw for a year with my girlfriend, now wife. What the hell was that weird sound I kept hearing in this song? A Kazoo? We lived in Kalamazoo for a bit too. Baby on Fire was a trip. This would be fun listen while on shrooms. Dead Finks. Haven't heard the term finks since I was a young kid. Whenever me and my sisters would tell on our older brothers, they called us finks. I'm guessing finks = snitch in today's terminology? This was a little too far out there to be an enjoyable listen. But I'll give a 2 for Paw Paw, kazoo, Kalamazoo, Finks and writing a song about burning a chick alive while she laughs about it. 2
Had a headache and thought this might be nice. It was not what I expected and now everything hurts. I feel betrayed by my expectations. I thought warm jets meant like on a hot tub. Fuck. I'm the opposite of relaxed now. 2
No demasiado de mi agrado. Raro.
Couldn't quite get into it, COVID brain can't pinpoint why 2.5/5
Have Like Eno quite a bit in the past and he is definitely a boundary pusher, this one pushed a bit too far for me.
there were some moments, but i don't think i'd like to hear the vast majority of this again. i'm just not sure how you could pick this as what you need to hear from brian eno given his entire repertoire
Meh I think it kind of got in it's own ass about being avant garde or whatever you want to call it.
Well... that was mildly irritating.
Not my favorite.
This guy is pretty strange, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. But this album is boring.
This is... an interesting album, it is just stuff happening but not necessarily in a good way most of the time. I understand that this is quite an old album, but it is not something that I would choose to have in the background. It's not too great, but some work has been put into it, yes.
4.5/10
Weird synth punk. Not my bag.
This album kind of felt unsettling to me. It was uncomfortable listening to some of the songs
There were some cool chill jams on here that I could get into every now and then. Not really still something I can listen to everyday.
His songs are good when there is a little to no singing. Unfortunately, this had a lot of singing.
