Funky, exactly what you'd expect from Jamiroquai

A lot of extras I didn't care for but I like the main album

This is like a combination of jazz and funk. It feels very '70s. I really thought the singer was a chick until I saw the music video. The image makes me think of the QAnon Shaman from Jan 6th (ugh!). This album has great energy and I really liked it!

Funky, jazzy, groovy, pretty damned good stuff. Very musical, fantastically recorded.

finally its FUN out here i see why so many artists cite jamiroquai as inspiration the tracks on their own wouldn't be that impressive, this is more of a whole product. and the album in its entirety is more impressive than the songs.

Listen to this album Mr Trump

8/10 Favorites: Too Young to Die Blow Your Mind

I had not listened to this album before, and really as a whole, much Jamiroquai all the way through. I always found songs I loved though. This album is no different. So much going and so many influences found throughout. I thought at points I was listening to Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, or even Al Green. I'm gonna give this one multiple spins for sure. Biggest Hit - Whatever It Is, I Just Can't Stop Biggest Miss (if I had to choose) - Didgin Out Hidden Gem - Blow Your Mind

Listened to and from work. Really enjoyed this! Many of the tracks felt a bit samey but the good tracks were great. Revolution 1993 is an absolute banger!

extremely fun and catchy with great melodies

It’s almost impossible to stay in a bad mood when you’re listening to Jamiroquai. The moment you press play, there’s a kind of physical buoyancy that takes over—like the music itself lifts you a few inches off the ground. I’d never spent time with their debut album, Emergency on Planet Earth, but it carries the same vibrant pulse and effortless cool as the later records I discovered after first seeing the wildly inventive “Virtual Insanity” video. Jamiroquai has a rare gift for fusing pop, jazz, R&B, disco, and funk into a seamless, groove-driven soundscape—what’s often labeled Acid Jazz—that feels both polished and organic. The result isn’t just music you hear; it’s music you feel, and it’s an absolute joy to sink into.

groovy album, some great tracks

Funky, smooth, 70s vibes. Jamiroquai are just iconic. Instruments on fire - didgeridoo

I enjoyed the funky, jazzy tone of this album. I thought this was pretty fun to listen to. Some interesting instrumentation throughout made this all the more enjoyable.

Emergency on the 1001 album generator, Jamiroquai is coming to change the game.

This was pretty good but also not the same tempo I feel like I have gotten from other Jamiroquai.

Funky jazz. 4/5

ТОП

À l'écoute, ça funk énormément, j'aime beaucoup ! Puis je lis 1993, les reviews mentionnent Stevie Wonders, c'est vrai que c'est pas franchement nouveau. Je n'ai pas écouté les lyrics, juste dansé !

REALLY NICE, like this style

I was surprised by how much negativity surrounds this record, especially accusations of cultural appropriation. Some of that criticism feels fair around imagery and presentation, but musically it feels overly harsh. What I hear here is homage rather than theft. This sounds like musicians deeply in love with funk, soul, and jazz traditions and trying to carry that language forward, not exploit it. More importantly, the music really works. The grooves are deep, the bass is irresistible, and the band plays with a looseness that makes everything feel alive rather than studied. This is one of those albums where it’s hard not to want to physically engage with it. It made me want to grab an instrument and play along, which is usually a good sign. There’s a strong sense of joy and motion here. Even when the record leans into its message-driven moments, it never forgets that the groove comes first. It feels communal and embodied, not preachy. That quality alone sets it apart from a lot of more self-serious records that aim at similar themes. Listening to this also reinforced something I’ve been circling for a while: there’s real value in picking a single song and just playing along by ear, even imperfectly. Albums like this practically invite that kind of interaction. You don’t just listen to them, you feel pulled into the rhythm. For me, this is a genuinely enjoyable and engaging record that earns its place through feel and musicianship. Whatever debates exist around its framing, the music itself is alive, generous, and hard to resist.

Immaculate, maximalist funk-laced acid jazz production, this is a fun album right out the gate for Jamiroquai as their first offering. The Stevie Wonder influence is very clear, especially in Jay Kay's vocals, and quite a bit of the album was a fun and vibey listen. Also huge respect for making good use of a lot of alternative instrumentation, like the didgeridoo sections on several tracks. My biggest gripe is that many of the tracks become repetitive and could be cut significantly shorter, I think this is especially true for "Too Young to Die", "Blow Your Mind" and "Revolution 1993", the longest tracks on the project- I liked them, but I feel like they could've done with a little honing. Favorite Tracks: "When You Gonna Learn?", "Blow Your Mind", portions of "Revolution 1993" Least Favorite Track: "Too Young to Die"

It's funky, it's disco as hell, it's a damn good listen. There's less of the expected acid jazz vibe in this project it seems (although it does pop up like in Whatever It Is, I just Can't Stop), with a lot of the funk and R&B sounds featuring much more prominently. Lots of slappy bass, funky brass, and crunchy guitar riffs make for a lot of great music that sounds like a throwback for an album released well into the 90s. I will say I did struggle to stay engaged throughout the 2+ hour production. The individual variety in each track and general eccentric nature of jazz/funk give it a lot of staying power for me, but there's certain tracks that seem to get lost in the wash. After Disc 1 I felt like I needed to give myself a palate cleanser before diving into the back half.

What a legend, he is the Stevie Wonder of the 90s with how funky this album is. Also, the addition of the didgeridoo is just so cool. Straight vibe throughout.

++*: Revolution 1993 ++: When You Gonna Learn (Didgeridoo), Hooked Up, If I Like It, I Do It, Emergency on Planet Earth, Whatever It Is, I Just Can't Stop +: Music of the Mind, Blow Your Mind, Didgin' Out +-: Too Young to Die 8,8/10

i was so shocked when i found out this was a band of white guys. i thought this was a solo Black artist. shocked. thoroughly enjoyed! bops!

Really enjoyed it, a lot of tasty textures. Though I gotta admit there were points where I forgot I wasn't listening to Stevie Wonder

I zoned out getting groceries while listening to this album; between this and Percy's review, apparently Jamiroquai makes some damn good music for being productive. So far it's been Big Seth Hours on this list, and that trend has not died here; yet another Certified Seth Classic. Comparison was the their of joy on my first listen; while this album was a hell of a continuous vibe, I didn't find it to have any highs as high as the big Jamiroquai hits I've been exposed to over the last few years (Canned Heat, Virtual Insanity, Automaton). But once I got over that unfair standard, I found a lot of joy here. The instrumentation is reliably funky and incredible, with some of the best (and only) didgeridoo implementation I've ever heard in contemporary music. Some of the lyrics felt very on-the-nose and obvious, with calls for peace and unity and other such messages, which wound up sounding a little preachy to me on first listen; while I did get used to them eventually, it's just not a style of lyric-writing I'm typically drawn to. Yhis album feels like the first step towards Jamiroquai becoming the version of themselves that I'm imagining in my head... which still makes it an incredible listen. Highlights: When You Gonna Learn?, Too Young to Die, Hooked Up, Blow Your Mind, Revolution 1993

Love me some acid funk. Only issue I have in this one are the lyrics being on the weaker side, often resulting in the singer relying a bit too much on the "doo-doo-doos" and other jazzy/funky onomatopeia. Didgeridoo is a lot of fun, always a fan of incorporating wonky instruments. The mix of sounds is a bit on the crazy side sometimes, going from spacey electronics to jazz solos, but I find it enjoyable.

Great album. It's a vibe

I know its interesting just not really my taste. But it's great for analysis. It's a fusion everyone must know as generall culture but it doesn't have to be your favourite.

Here’s another turns out - I’m a Jamiroquai fan. Who knew?

Such a fun album to listen to! I never would have checked this out if it wasn't for this challenge.

This was better than I expected. I had very low expectations because Jamiroquai was kind of a joke among my friends. I almost didn't bother listening to it, but I'm glad I did. I heard shades of Stevie Wonder and early Michael Jackson.

i love love love jamiroquai! i really need to listen to more of their music

185/1001 Jamiroquai 'Emergency On Planet Earth' 1993 This will ruffle a few feathers. Jamiroquai are my 'guilty pleasure', and yes, that shouldn't be a thing; like what you want etc! There's always been an accusation of 'cultural appropriation' levelled at Jay Kay (the only constant member), but, and this is the important bit, what they do, they do very well. The album oozes energy, funk and exceptional musicianship. Like a lot of 90s albums though, it's too long. It's on my shelves (with three others). Always heard the name but never listened to them until now. It's an enjoyable album that clearly wears it's influences on its sleeves. Although I would never say I prefer this to those artists it draws influences from, I had a lot of fun with this record and could see myself returning to it in the future.

Wow what a great album! I only knew 1 Jamiroquai song growing up and I didn't like it. I went into this with an open mind though and was really surprised at how good it was! Super funky, and a nice vibe A very high 4 ⭐️

This is a fun, funky romp. Incredible musicians and JK is an entertaining front man. I really don't know what else to say about this one other than it's a solid debut and certainly worth the listen

Insane predicting and good ass tunes to vibe to

Great album, good funk. Not too short not too long( if you count the origimal songs and not the live performances), enjoyed it a lot. A true visionary and one that i think has set the tone for what 2000's music would become. Very tempted to give a 5 star. Overall a good 8/10 for me.

Das Debut, der Sound ist typisch und angenehm groovig. 4/5

Napoleon Dynamite! Jeg nød hele albummet, fed funk, overskuds vokal.

This is funky and fun. Always enjoy an Acid Jazz vibe. Had me bopping along in my seat on the bus. The bass playing stands out. And I really dig the extras on the remastered edition, which is saying something

Very very good A little long but good Funky funky, pretty funky

Funkyyy - loved When You Gonna Learn? and Blow Your Mind

Pretty funky.

If this was the 90’s I’d despise this choice, as I couldn’t stand Jamiroquai. 30+ years later and a much more open mind really allowed me to enjoy this. It was a fun and groovy album.

Nice! These jazz grooves are always welcome.

У меня претензии не к закосу по черных, а к песням по 10 минут

Funny that I own three (!) Jamiroquai albums (including this one), and I only learned now that the band members are English--I always assumed from the heavy 70s/funk sound that they were American. Regardless, I'm happy to see that they're represented in this collection, and while I'd have preferred their later album "Traveling Without Moving" as the lone selection, I'm guessing we got their debut because the editors weren't all that jazzed by Jamiroquai (pun intended). It's a strong album overall, and my favorites are probably "When you gonna learn?", the title track, "Whatever it is, I just can't stop", and "Revolution 1993", but it's hard to go wrong with any of the tracks except perhaps the final didgeridoo extravaganza. I *was* a bit disappointed by the videos to their singles, especially for "Too young to die" and "If I like it, I do it" and "Blow your mind"--the whole big fuzzy Cat-in-the-Hat/buffalo-man look for Jay Kay and RHCP dance moves kind of diminishes the quality of the songs. But a small quibble for a fun and strong album overall, and it took this listen to the album for me to recognize the (often ham-handed) activist messages in many of their songs.

"Emergency on Planet Earth" is the debut studio album by English funk and acid jazz band Jamiroquai. Acid jazz, soul and funk are the Wiki-listed genres. The album is "characterized by its acid jazz foundation with layers and socially charged lyrics." The core bandmembers were Jay Kay (vocals), Toby Smith (keyboards), Stuart Zender (bass), Nick Van Gelder (drums) and Wallis Buchanan (dideridoo). A host of other musicians also participated on the album. Additional instrumentation included trumpets, flugelhorn, guitars, turntables and percussion. Commercially, the album reached #1 in the UK. The critical reviews were generally positive noted for its 1970's styling. The album begins with "When You Gonna Learn." Multiple horns. A funky beat. Handclaps. Weird vocal sounds. Very groovy and 70's sounding. A protest song about environmental destruction and social injustice. String sounds open "Too Young to Die." Horns and a deep bass. They're bringing the funk again. Kay vocally improvising with "do do do's and da da da's" recalling Stevie Wonder. An urgent guitar is initially upfront in "Emergency on Planet Earth." Soaring horns and a slapping bass. Another song on environmental and social issues. "Blow Your Mind" is an 8-minute funky laid back jam. Bass in the forefront. Psychedelic keyboard strokes. Horn fills and Kay vocally mimicking the horns. The music is mostly 70's groovy funk and soul. There are spots and elements of jazz and even jam band. I appreciated the rotating upfront lead instruments which included the bass, guitar and horns. The two instrumentals were impressive. You can do a lot worse than use early 70's Stevie Wonder and the Isley Brothers as your chief influences. The lyrics tended towards politics and the environment but I have to be honest; I was more focused on the music than paying attention to the lyrical details. This was a fun album. It sounded good today. Some of the songs are a little long but overall this is an album worth going back to.

Album #978 I couldn't think of any Jamiroquai songs I knew before listening, but I had the feeling I wouldn't like this. When he started singing in the first track, it clicked. Oh, right! This is the Napoleon Dynamite dance song guy! Sadly, that song isn't here, but this is a really good funk, dance album. It harkens back to 70s Stevie Wonder, and I will revisit it in the future.

I liked this more than I thought I would when reading the description. Upbeat jazz is up my alley and I had a good time listening to this.

Fun album, some songs were kinda long though

I only knew Jamiroquai's big hits in the acid jazz style, so it was interesting that this album is a more organic funk sound.

can be a bit corny sometimes but i rate it. the smoother calm shit on here really nice

Nice groove, great musicians. I was not too fond of this in the 90s but like it now.

Original, cool as ice, and an artist with one of the best car collections. What’s not to like.

Excellent album, always a groove with Jamiroquai

Fuck yes, groovy as all shit.

4 out of 5 Lot of great tunes. Good vibes and fun beats. Go Napoleon!!

Yeah that's funky 4/5 great one good discovery

👏👏👏

Album 955 of 1089 Jamiroquai - Emergency On Planet Earth (1993) Rating : 4 / 5 Now this is how you do modern funk. From the first track, the groove just locks in - that bassline is thumping, the fluegelhorn is fluegelhorning, and the whole thing channels the spirit of the early ’70s while still sounding fresh. I’ve heard plenty of folks throw around the “Stevie Wonder impression” line when talking about Jay Kay, but honestly, I’ll take it. The man’s got soul, and this band knows how to play. The mix of jazz, funk, and acid jazz keeps things interesting, and the production is smooth without losing its energy. It’s got rhythm, it’s got message, and it’s got style. I really dig this one - easy to let it play and just enjoy the ride.

Not bad at all! But not my style either. Didn’t listen to the full album. Glad I gave some of it a listen though :)

Najlepszy utwór: Emergency On Planet Earth

I liked this album, the version I heard had another side of live music. Good tunes!

Chill album, great listen. Favorite songs: Too Young to Die, Music of the Mind

Funky, poppy

Well! That's a first time I've heard a didgeridoo on an album here! Prime cut funk, and Jay Kay has a delightful voice to listen to. Honestly enjoyed my time with it. Although I have to dock a point for cultural appropriation.

Loved listening to this again, as it has been years. Far more my speed than some of the other albums I've been listening to lately!

I’d rather listen to Herbie Hancock or Stevie Wonder, but this is a very suitable stand-in.

I didn't think it was going to be that great but honestly, it is not bad. It is something I'm actually really shocked that I enjoyed. It really sort of nails that 70s funk sound really well for it being a 90s album. I also really like that sort of jazzy funk sound that is present in a song like "When You Gonna Learn?" It is definitely a good dance album that is actually pleasant to the ears. Definitely an unlikely winner for sure. Favorite Tracks: When You Gonna Learn?, Too Young to Die, Music of the Mind, Emergency on Planet Earth, Blow Your Mind Rating: 4/5

That was pretty funky. I gotta say, for an English white guy who is pulling directly from classic african american funk and created the group name based off a native american tribe, he's got some groove. Especially like the electronic elements. 3.5/5 - 4/5

Funky rhythms and hard hitting bass lines

This is a great album and can see where this is going but would argue this is maybe his third or fourth best album so makes me reluctant to give top marks.

Really impressive sounds. The synth on a few songs hit hard. That's enough for me to swoon. Well done, Jamiroquai!

Not generally my style and all I knew of them before was that big video in the.. 90's(?). Too pop/dance-y for me. So I didn't have high hopes for this. But it's definitely better than that. Sure, the singer wishes he was Stevie, but I don't find it annoying like a lot of folks seem to. This is pretty pop-funky throughout. Decent song structures AND actual musicians playing instruments! So, that's a big plus. Some nice funky bass poking through in places. I appreciated the occasional guitar riff sneaking in amongst the horns, too. While I don't think I'll be coming back to this album as a whole, there are a couple that I earmarked for a playlist. Favorite: "Music of the Mind" Sorry singer guy, but the instrumental wins! "Whatever It Is, I Just Can't Stop" has more interesting music/instrumentation than most of the rest, too. I'll give this a 3.6 and am feeling generous because none of it actually annoyed me, so getting a 4 today.

4 estrelas, importante, lançou estilo e tudo!

It’s a damn good rip off of 70s funk

> The Beatles Very fun

Much as I remember it. Good, funky, tracks with decent musicianship. Probably an album you only really must have listened to before the end of 1993. If you haven’t in the intervening decades, you probably don’t have to squeeze it in before you die. My test for a 4 - would I play it again? Probably. It’s good.

Solid mix of funk, soul, r&b, and hip hop. Still captivating today

8 He’s right there is an emergency on planet earth

Just excellent. Creative, fun, moving, different and familiar all at once.

I had no idea what to expect going in to this one, but was pleasantly surprised. It has a really cool, jazzy feel throughout, overlayed with a Stevie Wonder singing style overlay.

Fun album with a good message. Enjoyed lots of tracks off this one, i enjoyed the jazz/pop fusion.

Oh this was great!

Great but not their best album. 4/5

Fun and funky! Very Stevie Wonder inspired. Good find, drags on a bit though. Tracks to Track: Too Young to Die

Very fun. Nothing stood out but a second listen will definitely happen

I really like Jamiroquai and as I have aged I like it a lot better. First he starts with such a unique sound. It has this lounge, jazz vibe with techno undertones that just make you want to move. Then he overlays it with such deep, impactful meaningful vibes. As I listen everything hits a little more importantly as an adult, and he just wants us to make smarter choices and make this whole world a better place and then we could all have so much fun dancing along. What a beautiful world it could be if we just listened to Jamiroquai.

SO grooovy. This deserves a deeper listen but I'll have to come back to it. None of the songs especially stood out to me but it has great energy and I enjoyed dancing to it while cooked vegan jambalaya.

It's cool to hear what Jamiroquai was creating before Virtual Insanity became wildly popular. They have a cool factor to me from that video alone, lol. This is jazzy and funky and has great social commentary in the lyrics. It veers a little too much into jazz land for my taste at times in the first few tracks, but the funk helps bring it back and keeps it fun and interesting. I really like the horns, and the didgeridoo too! Lots of creative instrumentation that I think get better and better as the album goes on. Especially loved Revolution 1993. This was pretty great!

This is quite funky. I can remember when I first heard of this artist, I've enjoyed his work for a long time. Easiest comparison is Stevie Wonder, and that's unbelievably high praise. I'm having trouble deciding between four stars and five stars, it's just that good... but I tend to reserve five stars for things that can be life changing, and this isn't quite to that bar.

Thought ones going to hate this. Kind of cool funk

Classic Jamiroquai sound. Lots of funky grooves. Enjoyed it.

Liked jamiroquai. First time around so wasn’t a chore.

I think the average is right on this one - 3.5, but for the sake of whole numbers, 4/5. Other folks probably do it better, but its just such a fun listen. Started in a kinda grumpy mood but was grooving by the end. 4/5

Enjoyable!

Funky and soulful. Not a cheap imitation, but heartfelt.

Excuse me, you've "never heard of this artist before"... Get the hell off this egotistical British musician list, take a walk, and think about where everything went wrong in your life.

Supremely groovy. Good stuff!

First album, beautifull. Ambiance is very nice and warm. Brings back memories of a good time.

## 🌍 In-Depth Review: Jamiroquai's "Emergency On Planet Earth" (1993) Jamiroquai’s debut album, *Emergency On Planet Earth*, arrived in 1993 as a seismic fusion of funk, acid jazz, and social activism. Fronted by the charismatic Jay Kay, the album became an instant classic, topping the UK charts and establishing the band as pioneers of the burgeoning acid jazz movement. Below is a focused analysis of its lyrics, music, production, themes, and legacy, followed by key pros and cons. --- ### 📝 **Lyrics: Protest Poetry with Urgency** Jay Kay’s lyrics serve as a manifesto against global injustices, blending environmentalism, anti-racism, and critiques of consumerism with raw directness: - **Social Inequality**: "White gets two and black gets five years" critiques racial bias in sentencing . - **Poverty & Media Apathy**: "A little boy in hungry land is just a picture in the news" condemns Western indifference to famine . - **Environmental Crisis**: The title track frames Earth’s plight as an "emergency," demanding action against "modernisation" . While sometimes criticized as didactic ("foresight is the only key to save our children’s destiny" from "When You Gonna Learn"), the urgency resonates 30+ years later . The exception is "Blow Your Mind," a love song offering emotional respite . --- ### 🎶 **Music: Acid Jazz Innovation & Live Band Virtuosity** The album’s sound is a masterclass in genre fusion, anchored by legendary bassist Stuart Zender: - **Rhythm Section Dominance**: Zender’s basslines (e.g., "Too Young to Die" and the slap solo in "Emergency") blend funk grit with jazz fluidity, using Warwick basses and compressed effects . - **Eclectic Instrumentation**: Didgeridoo intros ("When You Gonna Learn"), Latin percussion ("Music of the Mind"), and orchestral strings create a lush, organic tapestry . - **Vocal Comparisons**: Kay’s Stevie Wonder-esque delivery drew accusations of imitation but also admiration for its soulful intensity . Tracks like "Revolution 1993" (10:17) showcase extended improvisations with trumpets, pan flutes, and hypnotic grooves . --- ### 🎛️ **Production: Organic Authenticity vs. Rough Edges** Produced by Mike Nielsen, the album prioritizes live-band energy over polish: - **Strengths**: Raw, roomy acoustics highlight instrumental interplay. Bass and drums dominate the mix, creating visceral funk . - **Weaknesses**: Some tracks suffer from muddy textures ("Whatever It Is, I Just Can’t Stop") or excessive length ("Revolution 1993") . The stripped-down approach contrasts sharply with Jamiroquai’s later synth-driven work, emphasizing human performance . --- ### 🌱 **Themes: Eco-Consciousness & Anarchist Spirit** The album is a "protest record" targeting systemic failures: - **Planetary Emergency**: Climate neglect, war, and consumerism are framed as interconnected crises . - **Anti-Authoritarianism**: "Revolution 1993" explicitly urges listeners to "fight the power" . - **Cultural Appropriation Concerns**: Kay’s use of Native American imagery (band name, headdresses) sparked debate, though intent was homage . This thematic boldness defined Jamiroquai’s early identity before shifting toward pop escapism . --- ### 🚀 **Influence: Shaping Acid Jazz & Beyond** *Emergency*’s legacy is multifaceted: - **Genre Catalyst**: It propelled acid jazz into mainstream consciousness, selling 1.2M+ copies and inspiring bands like The Internet and Anderson .Paak . - **Bass Revolution**: Zender’s techniques became a blueprint for funk bassists . - **Timeless Relevance**: Lyrics about inequality and ecology remain startlingly current . Despite criticisms of derivativeness, its innovation in blending retro funk with 90s activism remains influential . --- ### ⚖️ **Pros & Cons at a Glance** | **Aspect** | **Pros** | **Cons** | |------------------|--------------------------------------------------------------------------|--------------------------------------------------------------------------| | **Lyrics** | Urgent, socially conscious; exposes injustice | Occasionally preachy; lacks nuance | | **Music** | Stellar bass work; genre fusion; live energy | Overlong tracks ("Revolution 1993") | | **Production** | Organic, authentic band sound | Inconsistent mixing; dated effects | | **Themes** | Bold eco-politics; unified message | Cultural appropriation debates | | **Legacy** | Defined acid jazz; influenced neo-soul | Overshadowed by later pop hits ("Virtual Insanity") | --- ### 💎 **Conclusion: A Flawed Yet Essential Funk Monument** *Emergency On Planet Earth* remains a landmark debut, balancing fiery activism with musical virtuosity. While its earnestness and uneven production reveal a band still honing its craft, the album’s fearless fusion of jazz, funk, and protest messaging cemented Jamiroquai’s place in music history. Its warning—"we got emergency"—feels more urgent than ever 🌏🎶. > ✨ **Key Takeaway**: A time capsule of 90s rebellion that transcends its era through sheer passion and groove.

Didn’t know what to expect. Felt like I was in a trance for most of it (in a good way). I really like the funky vibes. Reminds me of Stevie Wonder. Some of the jazzy instrumentals are chaotic but I appreciate the unpredictability.

massachusetts '98

Wait this was surprisingly good

Wow. What a blast from the past. This is a double album with a few live tracks thrown in on the last part of the second disc. One thing is for sure this was meant to be listened to from side to side. This was written, produced, recorded, arranged, and performed to be listened to end to end and side to side.

8/10 great first album, good lyrics mixed with funk/jazz/pop

Super fun album enjoyed it a lot.

79/1001. I saw Jamiroquai about 25 years ago, back in 1999 in Helsinki. Red Hot Chili Peppers played the next day at the same place but we chose this gig instead (couldn't afford both as poor students you know). The gig was good and fun, but still I think that perhaps we should have picked RHCP. Well, it seems they are still in business so perhaps it's not too late... My favourite album from J-roquai is Synkronized, this one is a bit too Stevie Wonder pastusche. Well aren't they all? But good grooving and solid tunes.

This is SOOOO funky and fun! Omg I love it!!! Even the instrumentals are great (although they arent my favorite). I love how this is funky yet sounds like you are in space. Such a good album. The instruments and band are fantastic! Even the Live/Demo versions are awesome. Liked Songs: "When You Gonna Learn?" , "Too Young to Die" , "If I Like It, I Do It" , "Emergency On Planet Earth" , "Whatever It Is, I Just Can't Stop" , "Blow Your Mind" , "Revolution 1993", "Brothers Like You - Live" , "Music of the Mind - Live"

So good on so many levels. Not sure anything like it came before or has come since.

Fun and funky throughout and all without Virtual Insanity. Solid album.

Jamiroquai! Hell yeah! I probably would've picked another album of theirs to represent this list (their discography gets better after this, trust me), but I won't complain too much. I've always been a fan of funk and it just made sense for me to gravitate towards Jamiroquai and their funky, acid jazz sound that brings the 70's to the 90's with a little twist. Heck, even the didgeridoo makes a few appearances here, can't say that for too many (if any) funk albums. Favorite tracks: When You Gonna Learn, Too Young to Die

Emergency On Planet Earth is an album that i enjoyed way more than i was expecting to. Considering the only Jamiroquai songs i have heard before this were Cosmic Girl, Automation and Canned Heat, I didn't really expect that they would be a funk/acid jazz band so i got confused when i saw the funk tag. The music on here is great and really brings me right back to all the funk albums from the 60s and 70s that i did with Jay Kay's voice really providing a more modern touch to the album. The last two tracks were also pretty nice diversions which didn't take away all too much from this album. This was certainly a really enjoyable funk album. Best Song: Emergency on Planet Earth Worst Song: Didgin' Out

Amazing and entertaining

Jazz-Funk *only* properly works live. That said (1) Thirty years on, this album still (almost) works; (2) I’ve seen Jamiroquai live, and they were very good. (cf. St Germain)

i thought Jamiroquai was a guy (not a band) until today. this was super cool though!! seems like an easy album to have running in the background

Great funky sound.

Bra, stabil funk.

BEST SONGS: - Too Young to Die - Hooked Up - Music of the Mind

So these are the Virtual Insanity guys? The same dude who was moving across that floor is pumping out these Stevie Wonder-esque tracks. There's quite a bit more to it. I hear this great blend of star-showered space grooves built for small Friday night club atmospheres. It's undeniably contagious and has swagger that lifts it to great places. I'm a sucker for some great jazz fusion. Vibes all around (8/10, 4/5 on this scale)

This was a lot of fun to listen to. I had no clue what to expect. I thought it would be too psychedelic or trippy, but it was the perfect mix with the grooves. I love his voice. Sorta Stevie Wonder-like. The instrumentals were good, but felt unnecessary.

This is some impossible to resist, good times, positive vibes music! Soulful jazz-funk that takes influence from Stevie Wonder and Parliament. A joy to put on, and would definitely play again.

Ok, so this is no joke good. I am a Stevie fan, so I was caught wondering if this was him on a few tracts. A nice blend of R&B and funkpop. I do dig it, and will give it more PT.

Very nice songs, great voice. But the sounds and voice feels repetitive after some songs.

Definitely one that I overlooked when it debuted. Good, solid acid jazz/funk.

Went in only knowing Virtual Insanity and that song from Napoleon Dynamite. I liked it. Funky, Jazzy, Futuristic. Maybe a little corny, but I like corn too.

Really much better than I expected. Kind of Bruno Mars-ish

This is just unbelievably fun.

Their usual goodness, right from the start.

Pretty jazzy, didn’t like the lyrics at first but I was just listening to it at the gym as background noise and it kept me through my workout. I would relisten when I just want mental stimulation instead of lyrics.

Felt like I was playing Persona V again

This guy wore a comfy-looking hat and we thought he was so quirky in the 90s. Listening to it now, he sounds like a bit of budget Stevie Wonder, but I dig the mixing of genres. A fun album, 4*

Better than what I thought it was going to be. I really like Jamiroquai '96 album. This was a good fun album. I enjoyed it.

Fantastic and fresh sounding funk album from the early 90s. Easily one of the best of that decade.

Can't believe Jamiraquai don't suck

This was super cool. I had heard of these guys but was not familiar with their work, this was fun to listen to.

Since Napoleon Dynamite was my only introduction to Jamiroquai, I was curious how this would go. But what a way to start this journey. The blend of funk/jazz with some amazing, provocative lyrics was not exactly what I expected, but I loved it. It was easy to just enjoy the music, with a fun variety of instruments, but also felt important to go listen to some songs again with the lyrics pulled up to see what the message was.

A faixa título, "Too Young to Die" e a instrumental "Music of the Mind" são as melhores. Algumas músicas se estendem mais do que deveriam, mas nada que tire o brilho do álbum. Ótima estreia

OVERALL: HOW was this made in 1993. Probably the strongest 4 I'm ever going to give. This is like Stevie Wonder, but he's a band and a little worse. So many good songs, basically every song could be argued to be a 10/10 and I could agree (except for Didgin' Out). Very funky, very soulful, very groovy, so good. Revolution 1993 and the title track are masterpieces. Didgin' Out is pretty bad, but it has potential and could absolutely be salvaged. I always knew Jamiroquai as the Virtual Insanity band, but this is really good. So close to being a 5, which would be the 4th in a row, but some songs could be expanded on and the last song sucks. SONG AVG: 8.655/10 PERSONAL RATING: 8.95/10 When You Gonna Learn?: Pretty good, nice funky track with great blending of jazz and soul. No way this was made in 1993. 8.75/10 Too Young to Die: Sounds like Stevie Wonder, who I love so I really like this one. Very alive and funky, great message and great vocals. I love the horns. 9.75/10 Hooked Up: Very fun. Its like the previous song, but has worse lyrics and more fun instrumentals. Also, it actually ends instead of fading out. 9/10 If I Like It, I Do It: Holy bassline. Soulful and funky, great energy. I'm not British, so I don't really know too much about what he's talking about, but it seems important so that's nice. 9.25/10 Music of the Mind: Such a great instrumental, honestly could be the best on the album. It's only held back by the lack of vocals, but it's really good. 9.8/10 Emergency on Planet Earth: Masterpiece. I can't believe that this was made in 1993, and that it sounds both this futuristic and is as thematically relevant over 30 years later. 10/10 Whatever It Is, I Just Can't Stop: It's cool I guess. Following the title track is either the easiest or hardest thing, and the one here is particularly strong. This song is good, nice drums and pretty groovy, but isn't as good as the title track. 8/10 Blow Your Mind: Very smooth, very funky. Great use of horns. 8 minutes is a bit much, but it doesn't really feel like it. Nice message as well. The ending kinda drags on for a bit, but it's got good pacing otherwise. 8.5/10 Revolution 1993: This reminds me of Close to the Edge, but jazzier and slightly worse. Everything is done really well, except for the lyrics which can sometimes be a bit dry. Groovy, funky, soulful, intense, heavenly. Such a good song. 10/10 Didgin' Out: This ain't it. It would work much better as an instrumental for someone else's vocals. 3.5/10

Pretty good. Not really my thing.

I enjoyed this far more than I expected. Very solid album. I’ll definitely get around to this again

That’s a really cool album with a lot of influence.

It was love at first listen with Jamiroquai when my sister came back from her Erasmus in Brighton with this album. A truly unique band that brought jazz-funk back to life right in the middle of the grunge wave and even sparked a whole new generation of didgeridoo fans. A little rough around the edges, sure, but the album’s organic vibe was a great breath of fresh air after the synthetic sounds of the 80s. Great music all around, both technical and danceable, with even the non-charting tracks shining. The first two albums by the band are totally my jam.

Great tunes, Honestly enjoyed it very much

Super fun. Upbeat, party, psychedelic dream funk Really dug this

Ah mais c'est bien en fait Jamiroquai, si on passe sous silence les 8 minutes d'instrumental relou au milieu.

I was very pleasantly surprised. I thought Jamiroquai was a one-hit wonder, but was proven otherwise

Pretty fun. I saw a review that said it sounds like Stevie Wonder which I would agree with.

Ive been listening to seven days in sunny June by Jamiroquai a lot recently I love that song. I enjoyed this.

7/10 - idk why I expected jamiroquai to be a rap artist but I was mistaken. I enjoyed the funk music a good bit.

Sounds like if Stevie Wonder was a little poppier and could see

Jazz Funk brilliantly arranged , produced and marketed for the pop charts. I challenge any listener not to , at the very least , tap their feet to the entire album.

Not an album I would have looked at but it was good. I like the lyrics and message. The music is also fantastic! It’s a mix of classic Sly and The Family Stone mixed with some Parliament. Plus anyone that can mix in a didgeridoo to the music is awesome in my book. My favorite songs are Music of the Mind, Revolution 1993, Emergency on Planet Earth, and Didgin Out

Always up for the funk. I've been a fan of Jamiroquai since Traveling Without Moving hit during my record store days. Never went deeper until now. Great album, with a couple of absolute killer tracks ("When You Gonna Learn" and "Revolution 1993")

Jamiroquai is definitely a band that made their mark in 90s with the ever changing landscape of grunge, the swing revival, and bubblegum pop-alternative scene, with something that was just a bit different. I am more familiar with their hit album Travelling Without Moving, so it's nice to explore the beginning of the band. Bring on the funk as this album is just fun! Favorite tracks: Hooked Up, Music of the Mind (nothing against Jay Kay, but this instrumental is the jam), and Revolution 1993!

I enjoy the Jamiroquai songs I know, but I hadn't heard any of their albums in full and I didn't recognize anything off Emergency On Planet Earth. I found it a little disappointing at first but it did grow on me somewhat. I'm skeptical that this is the best selection to be the one Jamiroquai album recognized on the list... again, I haven't heard it, but surely we'd be better served with Travelling Without Moving ("Virtual Insanity")?

7.5/10. I knew I would like this album but seriously I think it is probably the most infectiously energetic one that I've listened to so far. While I don't think there was a particular stand-out memorable track, it was very consistently enjoyable. The almost strained vocals are great and the jazzy groove is are obviously the highlight. As I say, just missing a stand-out centrepiece, but deserving of a high score just on vibes.

Jamiroquai didn't hit the charts in my country until the mid 90's with songs like Virtual Insanity and Cosmic Girl, so I was curious to listen to their debut. This is a straight Stevie Wonder rip, which has made me hear their later songs in a new light. This is a well made and enjoyable album, but entirely derivative. I'm glad they evolved past this in later records.

i like the dynamics in this album and mix of all instruments, album has incredible jazz energy. I like it.

Not much to say, just a super fun album. Although hearing this makes it clear that Jamiroquai has a sound and sticks to it. Not the album with Canned Heat on it (Great use of that song in Napoleon Dynamite), but Canned Heat wouldn't sound out of place on this record despite that song being recorded 6 years later.

El mejor de la semana so far, me gustó bastante. Es un 3.5 pero como no hay mas estrellas supongo que esta mas cerca de un 4 que de un 3

happy mood guys

This is a solid debut album. It's a bit samey overall, but still not enough to be boring. It's well produced and written, very funky and groovy, showing the trademarks Jamiroquai is known for.

I always liked this band or artist or whatever, it's a fun and unique sound and will always enjoy a listen.

3.8 Very nice. Flash from the past - I loved travelling without moving as a kid but never explored further after they released Little L and I hated it. Nice throwback to go earlier on, definitely something good here, pretty solid debut. Some 70s funk/acid jazz with a 90s twist. Need to go back and absorb travelling without moving again now, must be at least 25 years.

Long but quality

Before listening to this album, I was only familiar with "Virtual Insanity" song. Definitely has 1970s sound and vibe. It was quite an enjoyable listen. Nice throwback.

I never got super familiar with this particular album, but it has some really strong tracks. Plus, Jamiroquai really helped put acid jazz on the map for mainstream success. He always strikes the perfect balance between jazz, funk, and soul.

Он конечно классный,но 2х часовой альбом это конечно перебор

Some of the lyrics are solid while others are a little shallow. That said, it's pretty damn funky. Revolution 1993 is a great example.

I'll be honest with you and admit that I thought Jamiroquai was a person, not a band name. But ok, I was wrong about that. They're a group, cool. I then assumed that, based on the sound, the genre and, I'll be honest Jay Kay's voice, that they were primarily a black band. Hell, in listening to this album I was drawing comparisons of Kay's voice to Stevie Wonder and Al Green. These are things I sincerely thought. I know now how wrong those assumptions were, and I honestly was a little disappointed to see that an acid jazz and funk band called Jamiroquai, whose sound is reminiscent of 70's soul and funk music, is primarily a white band. It shouldn't be this way, but it honestly kinda took the wind out of my sails on this one. It shouldn't, but it does. Anyway, the album is fantastic. The mix of funk, soul, jazz, disco, and whatever the hell else was on here is just absolute ear candy. I could've listened to an hour more of this. I thought I had more to go and was so bummed when I realized I was on the last track (which is a really weird choice for a closer, if you ask me). Seriously - this was made for me. I've loved pretty much every jazz and funk album I've been dealt in this project, and this just took things up a level. The grooves, man. It's the grooves. The grooves are perfect here. Four stars. Just still here being stunned that Jay Kay is a white guy. Go figure. Standout Tracks: When You Gonna Learn?, Hooked Up, If I like It, I Do It, Whatever It Is, I Just Can't Stop, Revolution 1993

Yes it’s all been done before but it’s upbeat, some good tunes and hopefully turned some people at the time to something different.

boy, this is smoooooooooooth

Old school funk with a make over.

I liked how jazzy it was

Man this was fun. So much fun. They’d be fun to see live I bet.

Отличная музыка

Quite a good album and it has the style I enjoy

pretty cool modern funk album. there was a lot of catchy and dancable stuff on here and enjoyed it! it was fairly consistently good and i did really enjoy listening to it. for me, it didn't really rise to the occasion of "truly great" but it is definitely fun!

Only thing that comes to mind when I think of Jamiroquai is the final dance scene from Napoleon Dynamite. Otherwise, I've never dug into their music and have really no expectations. Kind of an interesting aesthetic at play here. Like a Disco-revival of sorts with a significant dose of the funk. Music of the Mind is way jazzier than anything I expected to find here. Low-key fire. Whatever It Is, I Just Can't Stop is an absolute jam. The bass is thick and groovy as fuck and love the sex guitar. This would be a great set filler. Also, Didgin' Out goes way harder than it has any right. Honestly didn't expect to enjoy this as much as I am. I've listened to this probably 3 times today and I have yet to tire of it. More bands need didgeridoo and jazz flute. THis as a surprisingly high 4 for me.

Feels like a new age Michael Jackson with some psychedelic sounds infused. Cool album overall, definitely interesting. 4 stars

This album is the bee's knees and that's without Canned Heat on the track list. This could be an everyday listen with how in the groove I got. Very high 4 with a potential of being a 5 in the perfect circumstance.

It was never boring, a very diverse album with interesting musical solutions and ideas. It was enjoyable, maybe a bit long. I don't think it was easy to digest, but I liked it a lot.

I would have it five stars if it were traveling without moving. That's my favorite jamiroquai album.

It's good. Takes me back and puts a smile on my face. Upbeat yet chill. I dig it.

Simpatico, niente da dire, ma troppo particolare per me.

Great listen- lively funk album that remained interesting. Little bit on the lengthy side but enjoyed throughout

Actually quite enjoyed this. Really gave me vibes of George Michael, Scissor Sisters and Robbie Williams. There was another artist this reminded me of and it took a bit for me to get it. I had the song in my head and eventually it clicked. Canned Heat which I then discovered was by Jamiroquai so turns out I had heard them before. This album was fun and funky, solid 4 stars from me!

Tasty record! If I was a bass player, this record would be in an eternal loop for my entire life.

jazzy, good not great

Sirvió de nexo entre el mejor funk de los 70 (con obvias influencias de Stevie Wonder) y lo que llegarían a hacer Daft Punk (que bebieron de las mismas fuentes y del propio Jamiroquai) No es su mejor disco (The Return of the Space Cowboy (1994) o Travelling without Moving (1996) , pero contiene dos pepinazos como "When You Gonna Learn?" y "Too Young to Die" , además de un buen rollo digno de ser escuchado.

It’s hard for me to imagine someone not enjoying this.

Pretty good, but not really my style, 7/10.

So funky I think I need to get tested for something

Gonna have to agree with the majority of reviews and say this sounds a lot like stevie wonder. But that’s never a bad thing and I think it’s a much more maximalist approach. Also didgeridoo.

Always meant to listen to listen to them & regret not doing it sooner. This was groovy

This one may not Blow Your Mind, but it may cause an Emergency On Planet Earth.

I love Jamiroquai and their funky/spacey sound. The didgeridoo on this album is so fun and adds to that vibe. I think that all the songs here are a good representation of their sound, minus Revolution 1993 (Its too long and sadly a bit uninteresting to warrant its length). While I prefer The Return of the Space Cowboy, this album is still amazing in its own right.

Very good, love jamieoquai

This was an awesome record that I had never heard of. Made the conneciton to Canned Heat from Nepolion Dynamite, but otherwise don't know any of their other tracks. This record is fueled by energy and forces you to bust a groove. For that alone, I must rate it highly and the overall intrumentation is super groovy and fun. 8/10

“white’s goin on?”

Überraschend gefälliges Album, dass sich gut durchhören lässt. Die teilweise anspruchsvollen Songs sind gut arrangiert. Die Unterstützung von klassischen Instrumenen ist ein bisschen wie das Salz in der Suppe.

I never heard of this group. The sound and all the instruments, reminds of Chicago of the 60's. I do like Chicago.

I really like this, always have. Back in the day I think my “legit” friends would sneer at Jamiroquai but I never saw the problem. It might be the funkiest thing that’s been made since the 70s? Interesting to read that growing up, Jay Kay was a grubby street urchin and not a trust fund crusty - that could have gone either way. I don’t think I love it though, a little bit too much filler, rambling skatty lyrics and the singles are all pretty similar.

This is Acid Jazz at its best - one might think since Jamiroquai is so connected with the genre. I say it is indeed cool but there could've been a bit more quality over quantity.

I really need to start reading the genre before I listen because I was thinking it would be a metal album or something like that. This was nothing of the sort, it was the perfect music on a sunny day and it just made you feel good when you listened to it. Wasn’t familiar with Jamiroquai but I will get acquainted with them more now

Love it, not their best album in my opinion but nonetheless very good. Jazz funk done brilliantly but I think as a band they improved even more after this album. Jay Kay is an extraordinary talent

Hot take: if Jamiroquai hadn’t become briefly popular with Traveling Without Moving, they would have maintained more clout. They are an incredibly impressive band. But they felt like a novelty act in the 90s. Never mind that funk and disco really weren’t that far away from them. I mean, Green Day has been making the same shitty music for 30 years. Why couldn’t a 90s funk band have seemed more directly tied to the funk movement 15 years earlier than they ever did? Good band. Good album.

Catchy and fun.

Enjoyed this a lot while driving. Totally new to me but it grabbed my attention from the beginning.

Good vibes

This shit had me movin like Napoleon… last song (Didgin It) was epic

Cool guy! Consistently fun album

I had seen these guys' music videos but never listened to a full album - way more jazzy and dancy than I ever even knew! Really good and fun - I feel like I could put this on anytime and it would brighten my day

Funky electro-jazz that is a classic. Every track punches the funky, 70s soul vibes with house beats. The album has many slower tracks such as Hooked Up and Music of the Mind. Standouts: When You Gonna Learn?, Too Young To Die and Emergency On Planet Earth.

First time hearing this, had some later Jamaroquai albums, but never dived in further back. This is a great debut, so funky, great mix of genres, solid 4

There isn’t one single on here that stands out, but the experience of the entire album is joyous. I want to have a Jamiroquai experience rather than any one song. Their concerts must have been great.

Pure fun!

You know what, I don’t seek Jamiroquai out, and I don’t think that’s likely to change, but I do always enjoy him when he shows up

Gotta say, a lot of this was fun and tuneful

Came in expecting chill trip hop, left with a funky Stevie Wonder-esque experience.

Funky album with a positive message that makes me want to stop polluting the earth and sending people to war. Favorite songs were 8. Blow Your Mind 10. Didgin' Out 1. When You Gonna Learn 7/10

This is a funky album. I've heard the name Jamiroquai many times but never listened myself. I'm not sure what I thought this band was, but it wasn't this. My favorite songs were "When You Gonna Learn", "Music of the Mind", "Emergency on Planet Earth", and "Blow Your Mind". Honorable mention to "Didgin' Out", which is entirely Didgeridoo. That's awesome. This was good background music and had me moving my body all funkily at my desk. I'm surprised that this album was written in the 90s. It is clearly heavily influenced by the funk and soul sounds of the 60s/70s. 8/10

Jamiroquai Good! Genuinely enjoyable, well-crafted blend of soul and dance, I’m glad that I’m able to embrace them now. B-

I like early jamiroquai

Chill jazzy funky late night vibes! Loved diving deeper into their work after only being familiar with the bigger hits.

didn’t know acid jazz as a genre before this album. Favorite track: Too young to die other picks: emergency on planet earth, blow your mind, music of the mind, when you gonna learn

Hyvät funkkis-jazzit! 4/5

Better than expected. I’d probably listen again.

Fun album, but probably won’t revisit. Not as great as their other stuff. 3.9

Just such a fun album to listen to!

one of the classics in my past. the second CD is totally unnecessary, though

It was subtle and intelligent yet bombastic and urgent. Not every song drew me in and it’s a little one-note at times but it feels completely it’s own and the musicianship is magnetic!!!

Love the first song

I’m going to want to listen to this funky, festive album again. Unfortunately, I couldn’t remember any particular song shortly after listening. Maybe that changes with repetition.

Listened Before? N Surprisingly good. Like many Americans I'm only familiar with "Virtual Insanity" by these guys. That was two albums AFTER this one. I really grooved on the sound here, the singer has a great voice and the band is talented. I will revisit it. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: When You Gonna Learn?

4 - I enjoyed this, some songs I think didn't need to be there. For a one off album I think it's good, but not sure how much diversity there is overall. It's such a distinct sound, and he has an insane voice. Just think this is it's ceiling?

this guys slaps

I honestly think he approached funk/jazz in a new way that hadn’t quite been done before. I enjoy all of these songs, but to listen to them all back to back is somewhat of a chore. Also, hate to say it, because I was really into the groove, but some songs didn’t need to be that long. There were certainly parts of this project that could have been cut. Thoroughly enjoyed it though and would listen again, but probably not as a whole album. 4/5

Jamiroquai is always a vibe. My favourites aren't here though.

only knew this band's name (but not how to pronounce it) so I didn't expect much. Assumed it would be more of the EDM that I can't stand. Very pleasantly surprised. Dancy but very funky. Liked it enough to download!

Fun neo-soul/r&b. I think if I could spend more time with this not on vacation I could get to a 5! Very funky!

Really good! Felt old school meets new school. No real standout songs, but good variation and consistent vibe

Strong acid jazz debut album by Jamiroquai from the first half of the 1990s. They made a record that still doesn't sound dated after 30 years. It's groovy though it lacks more memorable songs compared to their later albums. I loved their hits from the late 1990s and preferred some of their other albums to this one, but I realised it is their only album on this list, so I'll give it a 4 instead of 3.

Funky, jammy goodness. What's not to love?

Mischung aus Funk, Acid Jazz und Soul Im tollem Arrangement. Wirklich gut zu hören.

Never heard that band and never was exposed to this type of music. Loved it though and added it to my Spotify liked list.

This was such a fun album! It really had me vibing!

This music is pretty infectious. Perfect to put on in the background. Funky, smooth vocals, with great bass lines. I didn't listen to disc 2 (with live/demo versions) as it was simply too long. I'm between a 3 and a 4 but we'll round up for Jamiroquai. 7/10 (3.5/5)

Acid jazz, soul, funk. Muy animado. Un 4.

Absolutely wow back in the days

Funky. Similar to Stevie Wonder. 4/5

Damn near a 5

Intriguing mix of soul, funk and jazz. I had just started exploring Soul due to Hillevi. I had never heard of this artist before. Quite an eye-opener.

Groovy stuff, just slightly overstaying its' welcome.

Today, I learned that Jamiroquai is a portmanteau of "jam" and "iroquois" ... which is unfortunate. However, the grooves are still good.

Funky et jazzé, entraînant. L’influence de Stevie Wonder est palpable

3.5 stars. Fresh funk/jazz, very upbeat. Standout is "Too Young to Die"

Very funky, with great bass lines. I've listened to Disc 1 twice and enjoyed the listens. Has some funky/jazz elements with elongated tracks and was overall pretty good. 4/5!

Groovy

Good album to vibe to

Funky jams!

I really enjoyed this record. The music was great and the lyrics were passionate.

Groovy baby

Emergency on Planet Earth feels like a record out of time. It's employing a lot of musical ideas that weren't in style in the mid-90s. This version of jazzy funk was relegated to the 1970s, but Jamiroquai made it popular and fun again using new production technology. Fantastic record even if it doesn't include Virtual Insanity.

Really funky and fun, but kind of falls off near the end

funky...

Best way to describe this album is funky. It was fun, upbeat and gave me 70s/Stevie wonder vibes. The back end of the album might have dragged a little bit but overall this was very easy to listen to and an artist I plan to explore more.

This is fun, but forgettable for me. Still nice to have a cheerful album for a change

I enjoyed this tight, funky, little number. I mean really, who doesn't like a good bit of didgeridoo now and then?

Live tracks were great!

a great mix of jazz, funk and hop. A treat and well done!

Often I find myself bored when all of an artist's songs feel too similar, but even though Jamiroquai has a signature sound, I still weirdly like their music. As is often the case with this funk style, the production is full of lots of little instrumental details that make for an interesting listen. This is a longish album, so it's a good choice if you want to feel funky for an hour or so.

Í minningunni var ég að hlusta á þessa plötu í Hagaskóla, og svo kom hún bara út þegar ég var búinn með heilt ár í MH. Oh well, þetta er mjög næs plata fyrir því.

Funky. Liked it. Worked as a whole album, and the jazz funk and acid jazz elements worked well.

the best way I can describe this album is fun with a capital F. You cant help but enjoy yourself during this one, funky in all the right places, it runs a little long but thats it! I dont see myself staying in this genre for long but its fun to visit.

My feet were tapping!

Rating: 8/10 Great album, very funky and fun to listen to. Not much more to say, this album is an hour of great funk. Favorite songs: When You Gonna Learn?, Too Young To Die, Music of the Mind, Whatever It Is I Just Can't Stop, Blow Your Mind, Revolution 1993, Didgin' Out. Least favorite song: If I Like It, Do It.

Very groovy! Love it! A bit too long sometimes, but it’s fine if you’re in the right mood.
