Reviews (page 5 of 7)

I don’t know why music critics seem convinced they know better than the rest of us and keep shoveling multiple noise rock albums onto these lists, knowing we’re likely to tolerate them at best and hate them at worst. This album is a prime example of why critics don’t always know best. My Bloody Valentine’s m b v is a collection of crunchy guitars layered with just enough distortion to obscure everything else, unsettling ethereal vocals that are difficult to decipher, and percussion that feels like an afterthought buried somewhere in the background. Add in a tempo so damn slow it’s as if the entire record was filtered through maple syrup, and you’ve got the complete package. Realizing I still have one more album from this group to get through before I’m done may be the understatement of the year.

Another uninteresting entry from these guys proves that they shouldn't really be in this list in the first place, let alone 3 times

As someone who used to sort of like My Blood Valentine, or Loveless at the very least, I do not like this album. It's just more of what they already made in the past, but less interesting.

Not really impressed left me a bit cold. Has lost charm over the years just sheed of shoegazing.

Unnecessary noise in parts, but not the worst thing this has generated for me so far

It noise and a lot of distortion. I get that is what the genre is, but I don't want to listen to it. The noise approached something resembling a song in some of the tracks, so it doesn't get the lowest score.

Nah not for me, nothing I want to hear on here!

Quite dull and uninspiring tbh

Rubbish

Geluid

This was a strange album. It's like a souped-up version of the ambient sound music they play at yoga sessions. So inoffensive enough to listen to, but then there would be the occasional more 'wake up and listen' intervention, which was often unwelcome rather than stimulating. Not very good.

I found this to be a pretty tedious listen. It felt like there was an unnecessary excess of effects; perhaps there to mask the fact that the actual songwriting just wasn’t very compelling. The vocal delivery was also rather dull throughout. There were moments where the atmosphere worked well, but for the most part, it came across as a messy exploration of distortion, effects, and melancholy that dragged on far too long. Overall, a few redeeming moments, but not enough to make me say this was good, or even mediocre.

I didn't get this at all.

Whiney and noisy, shoegaze but lacks substance. Very very meh

Niet mijn ding

Mostly-noisy ethereal shoegaze.

Don’t understand why these types of albums are on this list. It is background music at best.

boring ambient music. lyrics are more of a non-descript hum. heavy, heavy on the distortion. 2.5 stars

Not for me

Number: 119 Date: 05/02/2026 Artist: My Bloody Valentine Album: mbv Year: 2013 Genre: Shoegaze Familiarity: Well-versed Rating: 2 Before: ======= I love My Bloody Valentine. in fact, "Loveless", released 22 years earlier is one of my all time favorite albums and is a contender for my top 10 essential albums, definately in my top 50. That being said, I was a bit disappointed the first time I listened to "mbv". I only skimmed through it to be honest, so this will be my first full listen. During: ======= So I had company over and listened to the whole album whilst talking with them and did not hear much that grabbed my attention but will skim though it again and rate each song. After : ======= I wended up giving all the songs a 3, though there were a couple that were close to 4 and a couple close to 2. Seeing how's this album isn't that much different than "Loveless", I'm going to have to give it a low mark for suitability. 3 my personal rating 1 suitability for this list 2 impact ----------------------------------------------- 2 composite rating

Sounds a bit like Trent Reznor drowning in quick sand. I like bands that use the wall of sound, but this one didn't fully work for me. All blends together, until you get to around nothing is, in which it all becomes the auditory equivalent of slamming your head in a car door.

1. found - 2 2. tomorrouu - 2 3. uuho - 2 4. Yes - 2 5. Am - 1 6. New - 2 7. Another - 2 8. nothing - 1 9. Wonder - 1

In 1999, Star Wars Episode 1 was released onto a public that were ravenous for any new Star Wars product. The consensus at the time was that the movie was...let's say "flawed" but that it was definitely worth the wait to have a new Star Wars movie. And hey, the kinks would obviously be worked out in the subsequent movies, right? Cut to a few years later when everyone basically feels duped by the new Star Wars and with a clearer head can see The Phantom Menace for the boondoggle that it always was. So why are we still letting people get away with calling this anything other than a waste of time?

Boring. I found this album boring and like watching paint dry.

Not my jam, but also was pretty distracted while listening to it.

I’ve tried to get into MBV before. I guess there is a reason I never could. Trying way too hard to be cool. I said it. 1.8

I don’t know. Some interesting moments. Certainly a vibe. But on the whole, boring. 4/10 Acceptable

2 out of 5. This album is a bit like a run-on sentence in how monotonous it can be.

Not good

Nah not the one at all

Sorry, hipsters, but this shit is boring. I guess moaning over sustained guitar notes works for some people but I prefer actual riffs and songs.

The first two tracks sounded like they were on a radio station that wasn’t exactly tuned in. This was not a great listen.

s m h …there’s a time and place for shoe gazing in a sea of noise, but I stare at my shoes wondering why this was included. The production is murky, and the vocals being mixed purposefully low and indecipherable is just annoying.

I didn’t really like this. Sounded like a wall of noise or being played under water. Nothing memorable and very meh. 1.75

Highlights: new you, wonder 2

Fine to listen to, but not that good like as far as being good. I’m surprised this band was so popular but it’s cool people like stuff like this.

It started as a nice soundtrack to listen while crocheting on the bus; finished like a glitch in the matrix.

This album, while quite edgy and powerful from a sonic perspective, gave me a nasty headache. For me way to much sustained distortion without real melody and no groove.

Very slow but did not dig it

I think I would have liked it better if I wasn't dealing with a headache & sinus infection today.

I came out to bat for Loveless and, should Isn't Anything come up, as I suspect it will, I will take a smaller bat and bunt it into the infield of acceptability. However, this album adds nothing in particular to the MBV catalogue nor to this list. 2 This was not as bad as it ought to have been considering that it largely struck me as the work of a 50 year old man attempting to reproduce that stylish pose everyone thinks he was cool for doing in his 20s - setting the guitar just so, mumbling just so, spurning capital letters. I thought as I listened that m b v might have a pleasing utility as a different sort of stick with which to give loveless another few whacks. This was very cynical of me. Luckily my listening to this album coincided with my reading a Barbara Pym novel which elicited great sympathy for the notion of people in their 50s living in the shadow of their lives in their 20s. We must all do what we can to try to be happy. For myself this will include not listening to much more my bloody valentine going forward. Apart from when I have to. 2/5

a bit boring :( everything sounds the same

I'm 3 songs into this thing so far and I am struggling. The first song was entirely forgettable, so much so that I didn't realize the album started until track 2 which was also forgettable since I don't remember it. Track 3 just ended, but wasn't any good. The remaining 6 tracks didn't get any better. You can't give it a 1 because it's not actively bad in a way that makes you want to shut it off immediately, but you can't give it higher than a 2 because it stinks. No way this is one of the 1001 best albums ever made, or even one of the ones you need to hear at any point in your life. I bet the reviews section is going to be littered with people falling all over themselves to love this thing. Post review read: I was wrong, a lot of people actually seem to agree with me on this one. Shocking

Kevin Shields in 2013: 'Hey guys, i've just finished the new My Bloody Valentine album. I know it's been a while but I hope it's worth the wait!' That's great Kevin. Unfortunately it's not 1991 anymore and whatever hallucinogens people were on that made them think Loveless was good have worn off now.

3/10 Mostly horrible. There was a song that felt it warranted the term, but couldn't be bothered to work out which one it was. Feels like it only appeals to people who are bored with all other music and need something Different as they've tired of listening to everything that is Actual music. Maybe they review 10 albums a day and get to tell us what is worthy. Painful. Headache inducing. Nothing finishes, it just gets cut. No form. Nothing here to see stop stopstopstop s t o p

It's okay I guess. I do try to push myself out of my comfort zone and am sometimes really happy I did. Other times I'm just bored. Unfortunately this album falls into the latter category.

Not for me. I don’t get it. It’s just noise

15/03/2026 Wow, My Bloody Valentine are bloody boring. A solid no from me. Spotify listeners: 791k

There’s a few spots where this opens up into something but so much of the time this album forgets that it’s there

Sounds like noise.

It’s not for me, but in a way that almost is.

Liked it but it was not my type ig. Liked the songs but I felt like distortion was too much. Fact that I didn't like the type got score really low. So 2/5

It’s noise… but it’s… good… noise? I think I have a headache.

The sound on most songs were scratchy and difficult to listen to

I got excited for a second, as I thought this was a metal record; turns out I was thinking of the band Bullet For My Valentine. This is lo-fi indie noise rock, a hilarious disappointment from what I initially thought it was. It’s ethereal and boring and I hate the patented “breathless whisper” style of singing. A lot of the tracks sound like they’re an intro for an actual song that never kicks in. I did not like it, and I’m always extra annoyed when all the song titles are in lower case, that’s when you know it’s gonna be bad. 2/5

It’s fine

Wasn't really into MBV or emo music when it came out and it seems my tastes have not changed. More ambient/shoegaze than I'd prefer

boring!

ok. 2.5

I have never got the reverence surrounding MBV. I don’t find their music transcendent, I don’t find the guitar sounds stunning. Their stuff bores me and frankly it pisses me off that all three of their studio albums have made it on to this thing when there are so many fantastic albums and artists who have been overlooked

Jez and Super Hans would reject this for Danny Dyer’s Chocolate Homunculus as being too shit.

Oh look, my shoes. I must gaze at them while distortion plays.

Reminds me of Ross Geller playing on his synthesizer.

There is a scene in Family Guy where Meg is tortured by being forced to watch the other 178 hours of Monty Python sketches that aren’t funny or memorable and she says “I’m a girl! I don’t even like the good Monty Python sketches!” https://youtu.be/GPzO-kNvEYw?si=mwkDX6t1Zhye535l That is how I feel about mbv. I’m a fan of catchy music that sounds good and is fun to listen to! I don’t even like good My Bloody Valentine!

m b v is not only the second shoegaze album I've listened to on here so far, but is also the second in a row, and I must say the genre still isn't clicking with me. I like some aspects of it, but just feel like shoegaze is taking a good base and doing nothing with it. Many songs on this album are just the same fuzzy guitar riff over and over again with very little variation, becoming monotonous very quick. And the singing is atrocious, just moans and mumbling through the entire thing, like am I missing something?? There were a couple of songs that I kind of liked, like "if i am", but of course that one strays away from the strict shoegaze sound. m b v only gets a 2 because it's not completely annoying, like some other albums, but that's not much of a compliment at all. Favorite Song: "if i am"

Not a favourite

The only good thing about this album is that it's under 50 minutes long. When would you listen to an album like this?

Not something I would listen to again but it didn’t offend me

was not a fan of is this and yes nor was I a fan of nothing is. not an album for me.

Ok I’d like to start with the positives, the biggest being the guitar playing is sick and super haunting. The other positives is that this album is super smooth and buttery, I normally couldn’t tell when a song started and ended cause it all flowed really well. And I’d also like to add that the music is super chill and relaxing. Those things being said this album felt empty to me. Like it had the charm and the atmosphere of a great indie rock album but they forgot to actually write music and lyrics. I’m obviously being dramatic but it did genuinely feel empty and hollow of an album. I’m hoping to get more form this artist in the future cause instead of this album being not for me and putting me off, it did the opposite and made me hungry for more and hopefully something more substantial.

2.5 - Meh

I barely heard some interesting melodies because of the excessively processed instrumentation.

A couple of ok-ish tracks. But then the guy insists on singing…..

Meh. Some tracks are alright. But mostly I just wanted it to end.

I don't think I'm cool enough for this one unfortunately.

Shoegaze is apparently my least favorite genre. I can understand why people like this but it’s not for me. And it drove me crazy that it sounded like I was listening to a band playing in a club from outside on the sidewalk.

Some ok stuff, but largely not that interesting

Only Tomorrow

I'll give it 1.5 because I gave worse albums 1.5, this is horrible. Incredibly boring, horribly produced. I finished it over three days, little by little. I don't understand what it's doing on this list. 1.5/5

Thought I would like this a bit more...

Best Track - "Only Tomorrow"

Oh sorry, I dozed off there for a few minutes. Those droney guitars can be so soothing...

2/5 Fav: new you

??? droney. c

This was my first exposure to My Bloody Valentine. After I was underwhelmed by the first listen, I followed the advice of AI to turn off volume normalization in my Spotify settings and to listen to the album in thirds. Distorted, fuzzy guitars droned over softly sung, mostly indecipherable lyrics in the first three songs. I imagined Smashing Pumpkins, but I can't picture Billy Corgan wailing over these. The next set of three introduced an organ, stronger drums and random electronic sounds, but the vocals, though more pronounced, remained dreamlike, ethereal and equally unclear. The final three start off kicking, with strong and menacing guitar and synth and powerful, hypnotic percussion on "in another way"—I thought of Nine Inch Nails at one point, but the spiraling synth, almost like bagpipes, washed that away. The power and hypnosis kicked up a notch for "nothing is," and you could feel the intensity grow like an oncoming locomotive as the instrumental barreled toward the end. The final track, "wonder 2," changed the mode of transportation from train to jet, a concert growing in intensity and loudness (except the voices) on the deck of an aircraft carrier. Glad I gave it a second, more informed listen, but it further confirmed that this is not my thing. Respect the effort, though.

Virke bare veldig dårlig produsert. Ingen bangers

I love my bloody valentine but I felt as if I was just waiting for this album to be over, very little musical variation, and I know that is the whole point but it’s too much for me. Their other stuff is some of the best stuff I have heard however this one isn’t for me yet. Big fan of noise rock and shoe gaze but I’ll have to come back to this one

Muddy and droning. I don't like it very much.

This is a tough one to rate, as I think if you're in the right mood some of this really is nice textural canvas rock, but a lot of it really drags, or just doesn't appeal. Overall I think it's a nice try but mostly misses for me.

Took me a minute to get into the vibe of this. Once I got there it was okay. I much prefer Loveless though.

Couldn't remember if I really hated the last MBV album or surprisingly liked it. Oh there were two albums already and I hated them both. Noise noise noise. Not really sure what the allure is here. There's some atmospheric allure to a song or two. Reading my last reviews it definitely isn't as bad as the other two.

Playing catch up so listening to all 3 MBV albums together. I'm partial to a bit of shoe gaze/ noise distortion and feedback. Gold standard for me is J&MC as they deliver the above along with great tunes and vocals that capture the emotion of the songs. Whilst MBV have some good tunes they are vocally pretty weak - with the vocals washed out and placed low in the mix and as a result I struggle to form connection with the songs. MBV is the worst offender and is by far the weakest of the 3 albums with no notable tracks so scores a 2. Isn't Anything the debut is bit more punkier/rougher and I think would have been fun to see live - scores a 3. Loveless is the best of the lot - with the most polished and accessible songs and strongest vocals.

To call Shields a one-trick pony doesn't cut it. The incessant use of the whammy bar and massive reverb is one heck of a sound, but played repeatedly for 20 years it loses its edge. Secondly, being nearly 20 years in the making, they offer fayre like 'is this and yes' which could've been knocked up in ten minutes. That being noted, I can dig some of this, subject to the pull of the melody rather than the effects. 'only tomorrow' develops into a hypnotic circular track, which they have a skill for. 'who sees you' has the same captivating swirl. 'she found now' may be the most enticing track with some delicate vocals that match the atmospherics. 'Loveless' remains their best and only really worthwhile listen.

Warm, hazy shoegaze swells built from endlessly blooming guitars, submerged bass, soft electronic pulses, and murmured, vapor-thin vocals move this shoegaze album like standing inside a pastel-colored jet engine—beautiful in its swirling, enveloping blur, but so thick and indistinct that the longer it roars, the harder it becomes to tell one shape from another.

what are they even saying...too alternative for me Nice musicals tho!!

12. shoegaze

I kinda like shoegazey stuff like this. So I mostly liked the record. It was interesting and felt like something out of a dream. Not really sure that I see it as a must-listen though. There's just nothing about it to make me say it's great. Overall: 2.25/5

The more I listened the worse it got

Bloody boring is what it is. I can appreciate that some would get lost in the noise and drone, the fuzz and layers. It didn’t capture me.

An aweful lot of noise, with nothing else that would really make this enjoyable to listen to.

I just can't get on with it.

As my good friend says: eh.

So much less coherent than the previous MBV on this list.

It's like listening to muzak with crappy headphones next to a jet engine.

I love long songs, but they need to have a purpose. These didn’t

What a remarkable achievement. This was the first time anyone had walked into a Guitar Center at noon on a Saturday and packaged the ambient noise as an album.

Absolutely didn't need to be on this list. Every album by these guys is on here. This was more of the same and not relevant anymore. Not groundbreaking, just more distorted guitar droning with whispery vocals

There's a limit to how much shoegaze I can handle

Another "critics favourite", you need a degree in noisology to fully appreciate this "gem".

Couldn't bloody get on with it.

How many mbv albums do we need? I struggle to see the relevance of what was once a vaguely innovative band releasing essentially the same sounding album some 20+ years later. It's like they fell asleep for those 20 years and didn't notice that the world had moved on

Not if this was enhanced, obscured or amplified by my tinnitus. Not a fan, but I see why some people might be. It's not objectively bad in the most part, but it's not for me.

I thought i liked shoe-gaze....maybe i dont.

Atmospheric, hard to tell when one song ended and another began but I enjoyed the vibe, a specific mood, couldn't find a standout song but I enjoyed when they punched up the sound in the middle of the album,

I always thought MBV was an emo band before hearing a single song of theirs. This is a lot of droney guitar distortion. I'm in a small music club in Portland. Anyway, it's fine, not for me, not sure why it's here. 2*

There were brief moments of this I appreciated, and maybe this is one that would grow on you after repeated listening. But there were too many moments of I hate this to give it another shot

Interesting concept but bit dull and unforgettable

Shoegaze sucks Best Song: N/A Rating: 4/10 Stars: 2

This album absolutely did not do it for me. I can't call it bad but all I heard was noise, distortion, and breathy vocals.

Feels dated, some bits ok, but overall a transport of guitar sounds.

Took me a couple of listens but as into it but I still don't enjoy shoegaze

Should be titled "My Bloody Sleep App." This is what happens when white noise, distortion, binaural beats, looping audio software, and a rogue flanger decide to show actual MUSIC who's boss - and fails. I know this is designed as atmospheric music, but I'm unsure of which planet's atmosphere - as evidenced by the breathless vocalists gasping for air like a pool of koi fish silently begging for bread crumbs. Strengths: There are some guitar chords on here. Weaknesses: They sound like they're lost.

It was fine shoegaze, nothing earth-shattering, but enjoyable enough as some background music while one works on something else. I cannot imagine intentionally returning to this album though. Especially the last track.

There’s three standout tracks: she found now only tomorrow new you The rest of it just bled together and the wall-of-noise approach was oppressive in the last few songs.

The warped guitar sound of MBV is always fun to hear and there's lots of cool chord changes on these tracks but...man cannot live on cool chord changes alone. These cuts *superficially* resemble songs and hint at having verses and choruses but never fully commit to the idea (though "New You" comes close). As a result, a lot of this sounds like unedited first-draft material that could've used a couple rounds of tightening up

Apparently for like fifteen years I've been conflating the name of this band with the music of Bullet for My Valentine. I can only assume that when I've heard their songs without attribution I've assumed they were The Jesus and Mary Chain songs. It seems like their earlier work would make more sense on this list and I forgot most of this shortly after listening to it, although it was not unenjoyable. 2.5

Slow dreary distorted rifts. Minimal singing and generally all sounded the same.

No me apetece.

Seemed like a poor quality recording

Njae, trodde det skulle svänga mer.

Hard to rate it. Not Shoegaze expert/fan. Falls for me between 2 or 3

Some okay songs but not sure why they picked this album. Turning this band off after an extended listen feels like turning the extractor fan off.

Underwhelming.

Oooooooooeeeeeooooooo beeeeaaaaabeeeeerooooo laaaaaalaaaaaaa mmmmmmmmmmm

Three of these was simply too much.

oh noise oh noise please stop 2

This album was a bore. There were interesting moments here and there, but the beginning is just such a slog that it’s hard for me to recover from it. Also the vocals are almost exclusively whispered. Why? There are two different singers, why do both of them do this? I will admit that there were some very unique and creative ideas in the second half, I would have loved to hear that throughout. However, they didn’t stop this album from feeling like a chore to listen to. 2/5

Nothing grabbed me from this album it was very mild I have heard much better from this band interested to know why this album was selected as don't feel it represents there best work.

I can't give this a 1 because it seems like the artist is at least sincere in making this album. Instead I rate this droning, uninteresting, and unintelligible album a 2.

Dad- 4 Mom- 4 Mike- NA Lori- 3 Michael- 6.5 Miles- NA Cole- NA Avg- 4.38

Liked this better than Loveless, but that is not saying much. Individually, the songs are sonically interesting, but as an album it starts to blend, and no single thread or progression makes it pull together. Just not my cuppa, I guess

Eek...they should have stopped in the 90s. I love Loveless but this is just boring.

kind of like Loveless, but if it was only the songs i don't like. surprisingly dull.

This album was either really boring or I just wasn't in the mood for it

While I can appreciate the moody atmosphere of some of this record. It never really drew me in and was relegated to background music quickly. The last couple of tracks were borderline unlistenable.

This whole album sounds like its building up to something big that never comes.

It’s like if someone whose deaf had never listened to Deftones and tried to recreate it

Inte min kopp te. Instrumentalt och psykadeliskt på något vis

Background noise good for a nap. Not my thing

This was not good. It was really boring and went on and on. I don’t know I was having a good time on this project for several days and this one kinda ruined it. Sucked

All dirge, no splurge. It’s like if you took all the tunefulness out of The Cure and added a fuzz box.

*M B V*... I'm sorry, but this is most fuzzy nothingness to me. During it's 45 minute run time I just kept waiting for it to be over. I liked this better than *Isn't Anything* but not by much (4.6) ★★

No melodies anywhere. At least Loveless and Isn’t Anything had them. 2 stars

The biggest disservice this list could have done to this album is delivering it one day after Loveless, and that’s what it did. It’s still good, but hearing it right after Loveless made it feel very unnecessary. It’s not in the book called Two My Bloody Valentine Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.

I feel like this was a band the "real" music kids were into. This album wasn't enough to help me understand them; they should have gone with Loveless, which is more accessible. M b v feels like an album you like if you already like the band. Also, do the lyrics actually matter, or are they just more texture? I don't think I understood a single line.

I came. I listened. I got a headache.

I'm not sure I get what this was. Some of the songs were like kinda shoe-gazey, and some were just like rhythmic noise (seems to be a trend in my albums here lately...), some with a male lead singer, some a female. Some very electronic and fast-paced, some more drowsy and organic-sounding. There were brief moments when the music was enjoyable, but most of the time I was just left going "wtf even is this?". Two stars.

The previous albuns its ok, but this one is a rubbish. There's nothing special ou different to justifie be on the list. Absolutely pass. Sorry. By the way this noisy sounds bothered me. Two stars is most that this deserve.

Switching to my good headphones certainly helped but my hearing is already starting to go. It's just a wash of color without any root for me. I can appreciate the craft but going to save any good will for their first two albums when I get to them.

I like the shoegaze element more now I’m in my dotage than I ever did at the time. There’s something hypnotic and compulsive about it. That thing where chords are deliberately manipulated to drift in and out of key really, really sets my teeth on edge. So a big of a mixed bag for me. Glad I heard it, not sure I’ll go back to it.

I really wanted to like this and Shoegaze in general, but it always seems to fall just short of my expectations.  It's like let's get an electric guitar and go crazy with effects, but unsuccessfully.

Loveless is definitely one of the greats. Even though I didn't love loveless, I remember this one being a disappointment. Look forward to listening again. 1000% does not need to be on this list however. Everyone is good with Loveless. Trust your readers to slightly think for themselves??

An interesting experience, I will say quite relaxing and experimental 2/5

I can understand how it could appeal to some but it's not for me.

I see what they are going for. Just not my thing

maybe have to listen to it more than once to get it

I believe that's called soundscaping - flowed by while working and didn't mind it, and evokes some emotional resonance but can't say I'll be listening again and again

Mostly fuzzy and instrumental. Shoe gaze, or whatever this is, isn’t really my thing.

no comprendo

This turned out to be a big nothing-burger. Loveless stands alone as the only really significant MBV album imo.

It was ok. Kinda meh

Personally i find it quite nice. like garage ambient. Is it memorable as the first album, no. Is it a must hear, no (just listen to the first album).

Not bad but definitely not my style.

Kind of boring to me.

Thick fuzz, heavy reverb, slow tempos and grinding churning rhythms, ethereal vocals and lead guitar melodies struggling to escape the event horizon of the dense sound. Good at what it is - noisy textural psych best played loud on a gloomy evening. A welcome new album from a cult band whose reputation grew lots during a long time away, but not one I'd call essential in any way. A few highlights but also a couple of real torpid stinkers that just draaaaaaag onnnnnnnn and the whole thing is pretty monotonous.

If you love FUZZ you'll love this!

I find this a questionable addition to the list. It wasn't off-putting in any way, but it certainly got boring after a while. Its importance seems to come more in the reunion and release of a multi-decade album. Shoegaze emphasis on space will never match post-rock's efforts in making space meaningful.

The dissonant and cacophanous portions are a relief from the sublimated, unfocused, muddy remainder. I didn't hear a reason for this band to have reunited.

Sounds like someone fell asleep on an effects chain and just decided to release the result. It’s all fuzz and haze, no hooks. Just droning guitars and a vocalist that sounds like she's whispering through a pillow. The vocals drift in like a bored ghost and then vanish before you can care. Do you ever walk into a room and forget why you're there? That’s this album. Spins: 2 (somehow) Playlist Additions: - only tomorrow

lol at first I thought there was something wrong with my internet connection or something? They drone in a way that sounds like static. I felt like I had to try hard to hear the melody. But the melody wasn’t interesting enough to be worth effort.

1.5 Same as the other two MBV albums we've done, no? Cant get into it.

Loveless is a mesmerizing drone of excellence, a show gazing masterpiece. Why then MBV? To recapture lost glory? Money? Can anything match Blown A Wish? No. Soon? No. I can see if they musically went in a different direction but this is just an inferior attempt at Loveless 2. Skip.

read "My bloody Valentine" thought "yeah metal" wait this isn't Bullet for my Valentine. this is rather boring

Boring

Just noise this time. Not enough good music to go along with it. 2/5

Didn't enjoy some of the songs at all

i have heard loveless, wasn't really my thing, shoegaze rarely is so..... let's see she found now is ok, i like it, soothing, just maybe not my thing i really just don't like loud guitar noises im sorry shoegaze fans i hate you all i hope you're happy with this music but i am definitely not someone release from the guitar hell that is only tomorrow pleaseeeeeeee man i'm not having fun right now. this is just not my thing. and what do you mean it's only the third track dude what fourth track's ok. im just numb to this at this point i can see why someone would like new you. kinda reminded me of cocteau twins why does in another way sound like that :( . i feel like this is the heavy brach of the genre. this song is to shoegaze what heavy metal is to metal. yes? and nothing is is to shoegaze what thrash metal is to metal. i actually kinda like this, but i would like it more if it wasn't three minutes of literally the same sounds over and over and over again final track. can't wait to finish this honestly. the end is interesting. space sounds. overall, just really not my thing. i was kinda hoping that listening to this would change my mind on shoegaze as a whole, like something would click. but no. everything's the same. this is really just not for me. which reminds me, i feel kinda bad giving this a low rating just because i don't connect to it. i think bad ratings should be for things that i find bad. i don't find this to be bad necessarily. just not for me. the second half seems more experimental so that is interesting. i can see how someone might like this but hey, for the 20th time, i am not that person. bye.

No. Not for me. Random cyber-goth meanderings.

Some guys just try too hard to be cool.

Didn't know what to make of this. After a while it just got a bit tedious to be honest.

I don't dislike MBV, but I can't see through this to where the music is.

That was a nothing album

I’m in a group chat where the other members are excited about My Bloody Valentine touring for the first time in a decade. This is my second MBV album and while I liked it more than Isn’t Anything, it’s confirmed my hunch that I won’t have FOMO if they all go without me.

Jesus christ this was terrible. Almost a 1.

Too depressive for me

mbv claim to fame must be the heavy low grade background noise behind every song. I think the reason this one made the list was because of the 20 year break between albums. Their pre-breakup music has the same undertone drone. Not for me, I like the beer way better than their music. (2.1*s)

This was tough to get through. Just incessant droning and bored echoing vocals. I liked some of their prior albums but this one had no highlights.

This album is not my favorite but I don't hate it. The songs lowkey sound like Church music lol

I like this album because of the music. I don'tlike how there's barely any lyrics but I think the background music sounds great. I like the sound of the Instruments and I kinda like this album. I wouldn't recommend it to people though.

I dont like this album because its not my style and its boring i woudnt reccomend it

I'm sure someone somewhere considers this brilliant to to me on this day it's allot of noise. So yeah my listening was less than ideal as my current gig is wearing me out and making me crazy.

You know the joke about sparkling water, how it tastes like it sat next to a fruit while it was being made? That's what this album feels like. It has the essence of music, but it's not quite flavorful. I genuinely like Lo-Fi. I also discovered through this app that I like shoegaze. But this is a little too much of both. I constantly feel like I would like this more if it were turned up. I constantly feel like I would like this more if the distortion wasn't drowning out the true sounds of the songs. I constantly feel like I would like this more if the vocals weren't so wispy. At the same time, I feel like changing those things would ruin the heart of what this is supposed to be. So I'm torn. It's not quite enjoyable, but it's not so bad. It has its moments where I'm totally digging it, and then I'm just bored to tears.

No matter how much shoegaze is on this list it is too much.

2/5 for the tracks that are somewhat tolerable. That means the ones that have structure, the ones that aren't purely weird noises and tracks that abruptly end with no real resolution. I wouldn't encourage anyone to listen to this album in full.

67% Best: only tomorrow; new you Must-Hear? No

Ui, was isch dänn das.

First album was definitely a lightning in a bottle for My Bloody Valentine. Every subsequent release is like a parody of that album. m b v is basically a boring and uninventive pastiche of their earlier work. It is very disappointing and it was definitely a waste of time.

It’s a sound in search of some songs

A lot of questions on this one: why was the drummer in such a hurry? On nothing is was the record stuck on a 6 minute loop? What’s the target audience for this? Confused 2/5

No idea how this took nearly 20 years to write. Slow, dour and irritating. Each song was a battle

Couldn’t get through it. Musically, it wasn’t terrible, but adding the vocals to it makes it nearly unlistenable.

If you want to listen to an album of loud, atmospheric music with quiet, irritating vocal sounds you should listen to Houmous & Chutneys 73rd studio album ‘Loud Atmospheric Music With Quiet, Irritating Vocal Sounds’ 2.4

Scanned it. Didn’t like it. Won’t listen to it all.

I just don't really get this music. Not horrible but not something I enjoy.

Not sure if this band is quite my vibe. It's a little trippy, like something I'd imaging would be great for taking hard drugs to, but when your sad. Crank the reverb up on the guitar, and occasionally sing a soft high voice, but don't sing too often

This album is not great, not my style. 2/5

I know that it was a stylistic choice, but I hate the mix on this album. Everything sounds muddy and the vocals are buried. There's actually some interesting things happening, and with a decent mix I'm sure this would be better received.

I liked the vibe and atmosphere. But nothing really grabbed me.

I did not know my bloody valentine sounded like that. Not my thing usually, and think other bands do the same kind of thing better.

Brown noise that helped me cultivate 10 acres in Farming Simulator. If I need to zone out and not think much, this works

What an odd album. The first few songs felt like I was a notch or two off of the intended radio station. It honestly sounded like my headphones went bad. The more I listened to the radio static the more I started to... well "enjoy" isn't the right word... "tolerate" it? I did actually enjoyed the song "in another way." Ultimately, I'm conflicted with this album. I think I could be indoctrinated to enjoy it, but on first blush it's not really my jam. A little too much noise and not enough music.

This isn't anywhere near their best, and shouldn't be on this list. In fact, I think that Loveless is on this list, which begs the question "what the fuck is this album doing on this list at all?" 2/5

very long electronic music. not really my thing - didn’t feel anything to really connect to

Not good

Not a huge fan of them, but I do like them. Atmospheric but underwhelming. Not their best.

Inaudible and what I could hear was boring

One minute into the first track and I knew this one was going to be a slog to get through. Boy was I right. The mix is ridiculously muddy and the songs go on and on and on and on with nothing happening. I really hope my friends and I's band wasn't this rough to listen to in 2007, but it might be the case. This one gets 2 stars because, despite being rough to get through, I save 1 star reviews for ones that I laugh at and say "how the hell did this one make the list?".

Too sad to be ambient, too ambient to be sad

Interesting as I have never heard this group before, and I respect that this album is in a certain genre of music more about creating an aura, but it's not really for me. This is good for an ambient mood if you need it, but is mostly fuzzy instrumentals.

This one? No. No. No.

They're fine. A little too quiet and whiny for my taste. I was definitely surprised to see more than one of their albums on the list. Who cares that much?

Not good

A little less interesting than loveless. Shoegaze is definitely not my first love, but its actually quite nice to listen to at work. Even so, I would still put on loveless any day of the week over this.

I've got this album in my collection, but I don't think it's that great. Most of the shoegaze stuff passed me by at the time, and even when My Bloody Valentine reappeared with this album, I wasn't convinced. The critics were, but what do they know? The tracks seem a bit long. It's all a bit wavery, to the point that if I had this on vinyl, I'd think I had a defective pressing. If a shoegaze album should be on this list, I don't think it's this one.

2 really hate this style of vocals

It’s not bad but I can’t just listen tj 45 minutes if this shit. Not for me but I get why people want it. For me it’s too light to be heavy and heavy to be light and I’m just not interested in this. I heard about this band growing up like they were some mythic Beatles like geniuses. Shit is good but it’s not mind blowing good. But I’m bailing. Bye.

I don’t like as much as their older work. 2/5

Vähän raskaampaa munien puhaltelua, ei jatkoon

I wasn't feeling this and the distorted guitar work was tedious and kind of annoying. There's nothing here of interest to me.

Not my thing.

2+ Stars (6/15)

Weird album

Missä on My bloody valentinen aiempien aikojen pieni anarkia?

I keep trying to listen to this record, but can’t make it through the first song. Been saving this one until I finished listening. It’s been months and many attempts. Let’s just say it’s settled and the answer is that I don’t like as much as their older work.

If I wanted to hear one long distorted guitar riff I'd go into my brothers room and do it myself. That's how I felt on multiple tracks on here. Why is this on here? Because it's Anglo-Irish? What does that even mean? Just say Irish. Hm!!! That question made me google and Anglo Irish actually means British Irish so this feels very similar to someone trying to hide their face so they can sneak into a party. Enough with these mediocre British albums!!

The most recent album from this group, doesn't hit the highs that Loveless does, that's for sure. I'm frankly non-plussed by this. Saved a couple songs, but just unnecessary to me. Might be harsh, but don't care because I've got a lot of reviews to catch up on. Favorite tracks: She Found Now, If I Am. Album art: Hard to tell what we're looking at, heavy blue filter over what, a wall of pictures or something? The font is so juvenile, not sure if they were trying to be funny with it or not. 2.5/5

#41 felt like it needed some lyrics.

If this album is on the list, 2013, it's release year, must not have been a good year for music overall. While the production is slick, the songs are mostly abent. I've heard many amateurbands do much, much better. 1.5/5

While My Bloody Valentine may be the progenitors of Shoegaze, it still doesn't make their music appealing.

This group's name should be My Boring Valentine. Mostly just a lot of vaguely rhythmic background noise.

I have to admit, based on the love I had for their 1988 debut when I heard it for the first time months ago, this was an underwhelming listening experience. The droning guitars were slightly irritating; I felt pushed away from the music rather than pulled into it. Only two songs were winners for me (“who sees you” and “in another way”), so it seems only appropriate to rate this as a two. If I want to get my My Bloody Valentine fix, it’ll be their earlier albums. Having said all that, a bit of a rant: as a Journalism major, I HATE the apparently long standing trend of artists forgetting all their grade school education and they only use lowercase sentences… ugh!

4/10 - I do not know why but I thought My Bloody Valentine was a punk rock band. The music was not necessarily bad and there were some interesting parts but overall it was just kind of boring.

I was expecting more

Not a bad album. Probably wouldnt listen again but not the worst.

I felt like a zombie just gazing at my shoes. Not for me, dog.

No private session used for Spotify. Another one of my favorite music jokes is something along the lines of Q: "What effects pedal does the My Bloody Valentine's guitarist use?" A: "All of them". It's funny because it's close to the truth, it's an interesting sound but at times it makes me feel a bit disoriented. I do like noise rock, but not shoegaze, this isn't for me.

all a bit samey, got boring real fast

I was excited to listen, but disappointed in the end result. This album constantly sounds like you are on the edge of something amazing, but never really delivers. A lot of it is very flat and noisy.

This is one of those albums that I know the band’s name and nothing else before listening. Now that I’ve listened I’m happy to report I haven’t missed a thing. A lot of this sounded the same…annoying.

Their magnum opus didn't grab me and neither did this

Best Song: who sees you. This had at least a sort of appreciable energy to it that I could get behind. Worst Song: if this and yes. Fully put me to sleep. Overall: Stop making me listen to these albums. It's all so tremendously monotone. I can only imagine wanting to listen to this while coming into (or out of) anaesthesia. Otherwise, this style of sedate and prolonged music does nothing for me.

Hard no.

Really forgettable.

I found this one a bit hard to care about. I guess MBV would have made an interesting live experience, though necessarily a pleasant one. Weirdly melodic, but so drenched in noise, distortion and feedback that it's difficult to sense the landscape. It's bit like driving and finding yourself in the middle of a rainstorm, and looking through the windshield. All forms distorted, barely shapes. And you quickly feel disoriented and a bit lost, even as the path you are on is a familiar one, one you have taken hundreds of times. All of a sudden these curbs are dangerous. Everyone around you is as lost as you are.

"Souvlaki" should have been on here instead of giving mbv three spots on the list. This one isn't very good. They took out everything that made "Loveless" so special and beautiful and replaced it with even more noise. Almost sounds like outtakes from that era.

I wasn't really a fan of this one- it wasn't interesting enough to grab my attention at any point while I was listening. Felt like I could fall asleep at any second.
