Loveless is a mesmerizing drone of excellence, a show gazing masterpiece. Why then MBV? To recapture lost glory? Money? Can anything match Blown A Wish? No. Soon? No. I can see if they musically went in a different direction but this is just an inferior attempt at Loveless 2. Skip.

read "My bloody Valentine" thought "yeah metal" wait this isn't Bullet for my Valentine. this is rather boring

Boring

Just noise this time. Not enough good music to go along with it. 2/5

Didn't enjoy some of the songs at all

i have heard loveless, wasn't really my thing, shoegaze rarely is so..... let's see she found now is ok, i like it, soothing, just maybe not my thing i really just don't like loud guitar noises im sorry shoegaze fans i hate you all i hope you're happy with this music but i am definitely not someone release from the guitar hell that is only tomorrow pleaseeeeeeee man i'm not having fun right now. this is just not my thing. and what do you mean it's only the third track dude what fourth track's ok. im just numb to this at this point i can see why someone would like new you. kinda reminded me of cocteau twins why does in another way sound like that :( . i feel like this is the heavy brach of the genre. this song is to shoegaze what heavy metal is to metal. yes? and nothing is is to shoegaze what thrash metal is to metal. i actually kinda like this, but i would like it more if it wasn't three minutes of literally the same sounds over and over and over again final track. can't wait to finish this honestly. the end is interesting. space sounds. overall, just really not my thing. i was kinda hoping that listening to this would change my mind on shoegaze as a whole, like something would click. but no. everything's the same. this is really just not for me. which reminds me, i feel kinda bad giving this a low rating just because i don't connect to it. i think bad ratings should be for things that i find bad. i don't find this to be bad necessarily. just not for me. the second half seems more experimental so that is interesting. i can see how someone might like this but hey, for the 20th time, i am not that person. bye.

No. Not for me. Random cyber-goth meanderings.

Some guys just try too hard to be cool.

Didn't know what to make of this. After a while it just got a bit tedious to be honest.

I don't dislike MBV, but I can't see through this to where the music is.

That was a nothing album

I’m in a group chat where the other members are excited about My Bloody Valentine touring for the first time in a decade. This is my second MBV album and while I liked it more than Isn’t Anything, it’s confirmed my hunch that I won’t have FOMO if they all go without me.

Jesus christ this was terrible. Almost a 1.

Too depressive for me

mbv claim to fame must be the heavy low grade background noise behind every song. I think the reason this one made the list was because of the 20 year break between albums. Their pre-breakup music has the same undertone drone. Not for me, I like the beer way better than their music. (2.1*s)

This was tough to get through. Just incessant droning and bored echoing vocals. I liked some of their prior albums but this one had no highlights.

This album is not my favorite but I don't hate it. The songs lowkey sound like Church music lol

I like this album because of the music. I don'tlike how there's barely any lyrics but I think the background music sounds great. I like the sound of the Instruments and I kinda like this album. I wouldn't recommend it to people though.

I dont like this album because its not my style and its boring i woudnt reccomend it

I'm sure someone somewhere considers this brilliant to to me on this day it's allot of noise. So yeah my listening was less than ideal as my current gig is wearing me out and making me crazy.

You know the joke about sparkling water, how it tastes like it sat next to a fruit while it was being made? That's what this album feels like. It has the essence of music, but it's not quite flavorful. I genuinely like Lo-Fi. I also discovered through this app that I like shoegaze. But this is a little too much of both. I constantly feel like I would like this more if it were turned up. I constantly feel like I would like this more if the distortion wasn't drowning out the true sounds of the songs. I constantly feel like I would like this more if the vocals weren't so wispy. At the same time, I feel like changing those things would ruin the heart of what this is supposed to be. So I'm torn. It's not quite enjoyable, but it's not so bad. It has its moments where I'm totally digging it, and then I'm just bored to tears.

No matter how much shoegaze is on this list it is too much.

2/5 for the tracks that are somewhat tolerable. That means the ones that have structure, the ones that aren't purely weird noises and tracks that abruptly end with no real resolution. I wouldn't encourage anyone to listen to this album in full.

67% Best: only tomorrow; new you Must-Hear? No

Ui, was isch dänn das.

First album was definitely a lightning in a bottle for My Bloody Valentine. Every subsequent release is like a parody of that album. m b v is basically a boring and uninventive pastiche of their earlier work. It is very disappointing and it was definitely a waste of time.

It’s a sound in search of some songs

A lot of questions on this one: why was the drummer in such a hurry? On nothing is was the record stuck on a 6 minute loop? What’s the target audience for this? Confused 2/5

No idea how this took nearly 20 years to write. Slow, dour and irritating. Each song was a battle

Couldn’t get through it. Musically, it wasn’t terrible, but adding the vocals to it makes it nearly unlistenable.

If you want to listen to an album of loud, atmospheric music with quiet, irritating vocal sounds you should listen to Houmous & Chutneys 73rd studio album ‘Loud Atmospheric Music With Quiet, Irritating Vocal Sounds’ 2.4

Omg, c’est encore plus plate et inintéressant qu’hier, la fin du fun incarnée, mais ça franchit pas la frontière du 1

mid af

Scanned it. Didn’t like it. Won’t listen to it all.

I just don't really get this music. Not horrible but not something I enjoy.

Not sure if this band is quite my vibe. It's a little trippy, like something I'd imaging would be great for taking hard drugs to, but when your sad. Crank the reverb up on the guitar, and occasionally sing a soft high voice, but don't sing too often

This album is not great, not my style. 2/5

I know that it was a stylistic choice, but I hate the mix on this album. Everything sounds muddy and the vocals are buried. There's actually some interesting things happening, and with a decent mix I'm sure this would be better received.

I liked the vibe and atmosphere. But nothing really grabbed me.

I did not know my bloody valentine sounded like that. Not my thing usually, and think other bands do the same kind of thing better.

Brown noise that helped me cultivate 10 acres in Farming Simulator. If I need to zone out and not think much, this works

What an odd album. The first few songs felt like I was a notch or two off of the intended radio station. It honestly sounded like my headphones went bad. The more I listened to the radio static the more I started to... well "enjoy" isn't the right word... "tolerate" it? I did actually enjoyed the song "in another way." Ultimately, I'm conflicted with this album. I think I could be indoctrinated to enjoy it, but on first blush it's not really my jam. A little too much noise and not enough music.

This isn't anywhere near their best, and shouldn't be on this list. In fact, I think that Loveless is on this list, which begs the question "what the fuck is this album doing on this list at all?" 2/5

very long electronic music. not really my thing - didn’t feel anything to really connect to

Not good

Not a huge fan of them, but I do like them. Atmospheric but underwhelming. Not their best.

Inaudible and what I could hear was boring

One minute into the first track and I knew this one was going to be a slog to get through. Boy was I right. The mix is ridiculously muddy and the songs go on and on and on and on with nothing happening. I really hope my friends and I's band wasn't this rough to listen to in 2007, but it might be the case. This one gets 2 stars because, despite being rough to get through, I save 1 star reviews for ones that I laugh at and say "how the hell did this one make the list?".

Too sad to be ambient, too ambient to be sad

Interesting as I have never heard this group before, and I respect that this album is in a certain genre of music more about creating an aura, but it's not really for me. This is good for an ambient mood if you need it, but is mostly fuzzy instrumentals.

This one? No. No. No.

They're fine. A little too quiet and whiny for my taste. I was definitely surprised to see more than one of their albums on the list. Who cares that much?

Not good

A little less interesting than loveless. Shoegaze is definitely not my first love, but its actually quite nice to listen to at work. Even so, I would still put on loveless any day of the week over this.

I've got this album in my collection, but I don't think it's that great. Most of the shoegaze stuff passed me by at the time, and even when My Bloody Valentine reappeared with this album, I wasn't convinced. The critics were, but what do they know? The tracks seem a bit long. It's all a bit wavery, to the point that if I had this on vinyl, I'd think I had a defective pressing. If a shoegaze album should be on this list, I don't think it's this one.

2 really hate this style of vocals

It’s not bad but I can’t just listen tj 45 minutes if this shit. Not for me but I get why people want it. For me it’s too light to be heavy and heavy to be light and I’m just not interested in this. I heard about this band growing up like they were some mythic Beatles like geniuses. Shit is good but it’s not mind blowing good. But I’m bailing. Bye.

I don’t like as much as their older work. 2/5

Vähän raskaampaa munien puhaltelua, ei jatkoon

I wasn't feeling this and the distorted guitar work was tedious and kind of annoying. There's nothing here of interest to me.

Not my thing.

2+ Stars (6/15)

Weird album

Äänimaailma on kiva, mutta tää jää mulla harmillisesti aivan taustamusiikiksi. Odotin, että joku kohta olisi napannut kiinnostuksen, mutta ei. Missä on My bloody valentinen aiempien aikojen pieni anarkia? Ehkä pitäis pysähtyä kuuntelemaan tarkasti, mutta tää ei kutsu siihen heti.

I keep trying to listen to this record, but can’t make it through the first song. Been saving this one until I finished listening. It’s been months and many attempts. Let’s just say it’s settled and the answer is that I don’t like as much as their older work.

If I wanted to hear one long distorted guitar riff I'd go into my brothers room and do it myself. That's how I felt on multiple tracks on here. Why is this on here? Because it's Anglo-Irish? What does that even mean? Just say Irish. Hm!!! That question made me google and Anglo Irish actually means British Irish so this feels very similar to someone trying to hide their face so they can sneak into a party. Enough with these mediocre British albums!!

The most recent album from this group, doesn't hit the highs that Loveless does, that's for sure. I'm frankly non-plussed by this. Saved a couple songs, but just unnecessary to me. Might be harsh, but don't care because I've got a lot of reviews to catch up on. Favorite tracks: She Found Now, If I Am. Album art: Hard to tell what we're looking at, heavy blue filter over what, a wall of pictures or something? The font is so juvenile, not sure if they were trying to be funny with it or not. 2.5/5

#41 felt like it needed some lyrics.

If this album is on the list, 2013, it's release year, must not have been a good year for music overall. While the production is slick, the songs are mostly abent. I've heard many amateurbands do much, much better. 1.5/5

While My Bloody Valentine may be the progenitors of Shoegaze, it still doesn't make their music appealing.

This group's name should be My Boring Valentine. Mostly just a lot of vaguely rhythmic background noise.

I have to admit, based on the love I had for their 1988 debut when I heard it for the first time months ago, this was an underwhelming listening experience. The droning guitars were slightly irritating; I felt pushed away from the music rather than pulled into it. Only two songs were winners for me (“who sees you” and “in another way”), so it seems only appropriate to rate this as a two. If I want to get my My Bloody Valentine fix, it’ll be their earlier albums. Having said all that, a bit of a rant: as a Journalism major, I HATE the apparently long standing trend of artists forgetting all their grade school education and they only use lowercase sentences… ugh!

4/10 - I do not know why but I thought My Bloody Valentine was a punk rock band. The music was not necessarily bad and there were some interesting parts but overall it was just kind of boring.

I was expecting more

Not a bad album. Probably wouldnt listen again but not the worst.

I felt like a zombie just gazing at my shoes. Not for me, dog.

No private session used for Spotify. Another one of my favorite music jokes is something along the lines of Q: "What effects pedal does the My Bloody Valentine's guitarist use?" A: "All of them". It's funny because it's close to the truth, it's an interesting sound but at times it makes me feel a bit disoriented. I do like noise rock, but not shoegaze, this isn't for me.

all a bit samey, got boring real fast

I was excited to listen, but disappointed in the end result. This album constantly sounds like you are on the edge of something amazing, but never really delivers. A lot of it is very flat and noisy.

This is one of those albums that I know the band’s name and nothing else before listening. Now that I’ve listened I’m happy to report I haven’t missed a thing. A lot of this sounded the same…annoying.

Their magnum opus didn't grab me and neither did this

Best Song: who sees you. This had at least a sort of appreciable energy to it that I could get behind. Worst Song: if this and yes. Fully put me to sleep. Overall: Stop making me listen to these albums. It's all so tremendously monotone. I can only imagine wanting to listen to this while coming into (or out of) anaesthesia. Otherwise, this style of sedate and prolonged music does nothing for me.

Hard no.

Really forgettable.

I found this one a bit hard to care about. I guess MBV would have made an interesting live experience, though necessarily a pleasant one. Weirdly melodic, but so drenched in noise, distortion and feedback that it's difficult to sense the landscape. It's bit like driving and finding yourself in the middle of a rainstorm, and looking through the windshield. All forms distorted, barely shapes. And you quickly feel disoriented and a bit lost, even as the path you are on is a familiar one, one you have taken hundreds of times. All of a sudden these curbs are dangerous. Everyone around you is as lost as you are.

"Souvlaki" should have been on here instead of giving mbv three spots on the list. This one isn't very good. They took out everything that made "Loveless" so special and beautiful and replaced it with even more noise. Almost sounds like outtakes from that era.

I wasn't really a fan of this one- it wasn't interesting enough to grab my attention at any point while I was listening. Felt like I could fall asleep at any second.

An interesting sound by My Bloody Valentine, the first of their stuff I believe I have heard of theirs. However after 22 years of not releasing an album, perhaps they should have left it where their band belongs - back in the early 90s. Most of the album just sounded like fuzzy noise, with some semblance of lyrics underneath. Best: she found now Worst: in another way

I just listened to an hour of noise. Was it unpleasant noise? Not always, but it's hard to think of it as music when you can hardly understand the vocalist and the sounds all blend together. I haven't listened to 'loveless' yet, but this gets a hard no from me. 1.5 stars, rounding up to 2 'cause it wasn't as annoying as the Tom Waits record I'd listened to yesterday.

I thought i'd like it, but i found the first half too droney to listen to. Best track 'If I am' 2

I can see this would appeal to some people, but it's not to my liking

Eh, idk. Kinda boring to me, and there were times where there was a weird reverb thing going on that bothered my ears. Not atrocious but just not for me.

Huh. I found it to be a bit of a snooze. Nothing really hooked me. Not very dynamic.

Noisy, distorted, echoey, very ok weird alt-rock. Not my jam.

Self indulgent noodly emo prog-rock? An interesting listen, but not a keeper

m b v my bloody valentine 2013 1. she found now: 5/10 2. only tomorrow: 5.5/10 3. who sees you: 5/10 4. is this and yes: 2/10 5. if i am: 3.5/10 6. new you: 4/10 7. in another way: 4/10 8. nothing is: 1/10 9. wonder 2: 4/10 overall rating: 3.7/10

I didn't hate it, but I also didn't like it. Overall just makes me feel like they're so tired and I think they should've taken a nap instead of recording an album

It started out good and I enjoyed the first couple of songs. But as time went on it really started to sound exactly the same.

Didn’t love the last album by them but went into this one with a totally open mind, and again, I just don’t get it. It’s like there’s a fuzz over everything and it kind of ruins the listening experience for me. I want to like them, but ugh.

On the first track, I had to play something else on my speaker to make sure the static sound wasn't because the speaker was broken before switching back. Later songs are not quite as noisy, but still a bit too much for my taste. There is something about ethereal music, but it's not really my thing - I like my music to have a bit more direction. Either it annoys me or I forget I'm listening to it - both mean a 2.

I'm not a fan of shoegaze, and this only helped confirm that opinion. I honestly thought the stream had glitched at a couple points. Distortion can be artfully done, but its use here just felt antagonistic. Giving this 2* only because the latter half could be decent background music if you're feeling particularly melancholic.

Not for me at all

Not really good music for my tastes

Meh, fuzzy noise. Not my cup of tea. It was a bit headache inducing.

i mean i guess

It was interesting reading up on the production of this album, as many will notice the two decade gap from MBV's previous studio album to this. Sounds like there were some recordings completed prior to the band's breakup, pretty much making "mbv" a mishmash of both old and new work. You can kinda hear that here, though. There's not really much of a flow across tracks. The only other MBV album I've listened to was their debut album earlier in this list and this just feels like more of the same: the obscured vocals, and atmospheric, distorted guitar sound that MBV is known for. This just reaffirms that I still don't care much for shoegaze. That leaves one more MBV album yet to appear for me on this list ("Loveless"), maybe that one will finally impress me, but I doubt it.

As background noise, okay. Not sure I’d call it music, though.

This was a much softer sound than I expected from a band called My Bloody Valentine. All these years I’ve heard their name but never their music, I assumed that they were some kind of hard rock/pseudo-metal band that played on the same bills as bands like Slipknot and Korn. But here we are, and the sound is much more airy and less aggressive than I ever would’ve imagined. All that said, this was mostly pretty boring. A lot of the songs sounded the same and I was surprised this wasn’t their debut. I’d forgive them more if it was. But this is three albums into their discography and this is clearly their sound. I don’t get the hype at all with these guys. There were some solid tracks (see below), but mostly I just didn’t care. Sorry guys. Two stars. Standout tracks: who sees you, new you, in another way

First time listening to My Bloody Valentine and I hope it's my last.

MBV is not who I thought they were... but still not for me.

This was very boring and not at all memorable. Rounding up to 2 because it didn’t grate on me.

This was too muddy and murky, even for my tastes. Second half better than the first.

I’m never coming around on mbv, I’m afraid.

Boring

This goes for a vibe more than anything, which is good because the rest doesn't do much. Instrumentals are bland, the distortion washes everything out, and the vocals barely show up. I know it's what they're going for and that's what keeps it from a 1, but this isn't great.

I hope no one actually waited 22 years for this. Even if you liked “Loveless”, it doesn’t add anything really interesting to the MBV formula. Shoegaze sucks.

This album got a lot of hate in the reviews, and I can see why. Shoegaze isn't pop music. But it's not as terrible as these reviewers would have you think. I enjoyed the layered sounds and droning vocals. I did have to check the time on some of the songs, to see if I needed to skip. Overall I didn't love this, but I didn't hate it.

To me this is pretty mediocre. I feel like their other earlier albums were much better. Maybe this is a more mature version of the band. I probably won't listen to this album again.

There's clearly some musicianship tucked into these recordings, but there's so much noise in the midrange that it's impossible to cut through it all. I don't get the appeal.

This is my second MBV album and I recall not caring for the first one. I maybe liked this a smidge better? I can understand why other people would like this but I don't. It's a bit too ethereal for me. Maybe more of a 2.5.

Some of this was painful to listen to. There were a couple of good tunes on here, but I'm definitely never gonna stay away from this album.

Did not enjoy this one at all.

Shoegaze, føles langt uden rigtig at være det, ikke ligefrem opmuntrende

Wasn't a fan personally. Too much distortion

Bunch a noise. Not going back to it.

Muito emo, muito longo, muito chato

Listened to it a few days ago and nothing is memorable about it

Somehow weird… too weird for me

It's vibe music that I'm not really here for. Maybe I missed something because I feel like they are pretty well regarded. I'll wait for their next album on the list. Will I listen to again: 5%

The dullest thing I’ve heard in a while, and I listened to this on the way to a conference about insurance policy wordings

Not for me

Meh. 2 stars.

It’s a shoegaze album. But a critically acclaimed shoegaze album. Make of that what you will.

Suurimmaksi osaksi ihan pelkkää melua ja junnaamista. Muutama ihan ok hetki, mutta ei kyllä iskenyt yhtään. Parhaat: if i am, new you

One or two I didn’t mind, but not really my thing. I’d probably like it more if I was on acid.

i can do low key, but perhaps not this key. Not sure what this was adding to music in 2013.

Boring. Didnt click like Loveless did

Not my kind of music. Some of it didn't even seem like music at all.

This was a tricky one. I know the bands name but don’t think I’ve ever actively listened. Those droning, dissonant bends made me queasy. I know that’s the point. It just didn’t hit for me. Maybe someday in the future.

Boring at times, exciting at times. The rhythm and percussion department absolutely shine bright on this album and the lead/vocal melodies are rather soothing and romantic. Chaotic blend of grunge & noise with almost falsetto vocals. Wild mix.

Sounds like it's underwater. Just not digging it.

Rock to hard rock lean to an otherwise alternative album.

None of these songs begin or end.

I can’t say I really like this album. A couple of songs were good and I could see potential. Then there was Nothing Is….which sounded like the needle was skipping back the whole song. I am not a fan.

Musically, not bad. Got bored to tears listening to it. Not one stand out track. A gruesome twosome stars

o o f 1 . 5

good background music

Aika tasapaksu

I don't get it? The album title is an amusing reference to the band, but the whole aura of the album was lackluster. It felt like Lana Del Rey but with punk and not at all interesting or inspiring. At least the album sounded cohesive?

I mean, this album just wasn't very moving for me? It was like lo-fi, somewhat ethereal, somewhat ambient, somewhat grungy noise rock. I liked it okay, and it was fine for background noise, but not really worthy of this project, in my opinion.

Seems to go on and on!! So many effects and repetition.

Noisy. I was into it at the beginning but it just keeps going and doesn't change.

Maybe I wasn't in the mood for that but it just didn't work out for me

Not amazing, the end half of the album just sounds like a mess to me. Sludgy krautrock isn't my bag.

Thoughts before listening: My Bloody Valentine's comeback album. I constantly see them get raved about by music journalists and I never really got it. So far on this list I've had their pre-Loveless album and it was fine. I'm sure I'll enjoy this as well. Review: I dont really like this. It's all just so droney and many of the songs don't feel complete. Every song is just a wall of noise with whispered vocals. I remember liking a few songs on the earlier album that stuck to more typical late 80s alt rock sound, but that is missing from this album. I'll give it 2-stars for at least being interesting even if it isn't actually enjoyable.

some of their older stuff is really good, but this is not a pleasing sound. listening to this album also made me almost fall asleep, not saying that in a good way

Bit like a shitter version of the Jesus and Mary Chain. The songs seemed to go on forever.

My most charitable assessment of this album is that it sounds a little bit like Cocteau Twins and has a very ethereal ambient sound. My less than charitable assessment of this album is that most of it sounds monotonous and I can barely distinguish the vocals from the rest of it like it's sort of a low-level wall of noise. This is the first album of theirs that I'm listening to on the list. And from what I can tell their other album Loveless is reviewed well. I'm looking more forward to listening to that than this album. The last four songs are a little bit better than the rest, with new you as my favorite because I can hear the instruments not covered in reverb noise.

Okay, aber hat jetzt keinen krassen Eindruck bei mir hinterlassen.

Just noise to me, which I guess is the point. I'd rather listen to Mogwai.

I don’t know if it deserves to be in the same category as Bjork, but I didn’t enjoy this. Maybe Bjork should have been a 1

¿Sabes cuándo empieza a sonar un disco y piensas "este rollo no es para mí"? Pues eso es este disco en mi caso. Que no digo que sea malo, pero no es para mí.

background music. buzzzy distorsion

Seemed more like ambient music—no selections really stood out.

Not my thing, but I didn't hate it. The music seems like a noisy jam session that they tried to make into songs. The all lowercase song titles almost dropped this down to a one star.

Did not enjoy. I have little experience in shoegaze music, so I’m clearly not the intended audience. I found it muddy, droning, low-fi and boring. I couldn’t understand one word of their lyrics as thy were buried in the mud.

Ok background music.

Loveless was much better. This is a muffled din of ambient mess. I see what they were going for but it was devoid if any melody or detail make it interesting.

Previously rated: Loveless (2/5) Isn't Anything (3/5) ********************** Bleh. This one sounded like the first one heard. Wispy, indecipherable lyrics over repetitive ambient noise. This is 2013?! Did we really need three albums from them? Wait, I'm less than 30% through this list. There could be many more! Best: in another way. Worst: nothing is

Maybe I’m not into shoegaze.

2 - good to listen to if you want an alternative sound without words

Still surprised they aren't a screamo band, still prefer the tracks with the male vocalist, still not a fan.

My least favourite MBV album. It has its moments, but mostly it is just noise that gets irritating very quickly.

i had high hopes for this :((

Not much of a progression from Loveless and nothing on the album quite as interesting.

This is the album one would get if Brian Eno wiped his arse on a pineapple whilst a work experience kid recorded the noises. And that gets it an extra star.

sounded like emo ambient noise honestly. tolerable but not memorable

Not my coffee!!!??

Loveless is a fantastic album; several songs really stick with me, I find myself humming them days after listening. This album feels like a collection of b-sides that came 15 years too late to be interesting. The songs are fine, but mostly forgettable. It really lacks the magic that Loveless has. The only bright side to this album is that it makes me want to listen to Loveless again.

didn't really dig it idk

Not my style

The first MBV album I've listened to. Decent industrial sounding instrumentals and vocals, but not an album I'd listen to again.

Not my kind of music. Just distortion and emo lyrics.

It's just very loud noise, there first album is definitely there best and my favorite.

Not sure about this one. I mean, it was ok but it made me think of that Family Guy episode where Brian was trying to get his book published. You know? Except this time it's like "Whose leg do I need to hump to get my album on the 1001 list?" I will say I appreciate Brian's commitment to his art but question the choices of whoever submitted their leg.

New You was the track I liked the best on the album. With the distortion turned down to like 8 it was much more approachable than the rest which hits like an unflinching sonic affront. Not saying this track is amazing, but it's pretty good. Very hard to like this band then and still hard to like it now.

Best song - only tomorrow

Sounded like I was listening to music behind a door or underwater quite a muffled indistinct sound. Nothing to object to but not very clear

Meh, good background music

Heard it before?: Yes Enjoy it?: I don’t mind it, I just find their other records far better and to more my taste Favourite song: Track 2 - only tomorrow

Shoegaze.. do we need it? I don’t know. Do I need it? Definitely not

Honestly, I did not give this my dedicated attention and perhaps the rating is suffering, as a result. All I know is that I had it playing as I did some work and tasks today. The primary reaction that I had was to look at the speaker and roll my eyes and think “When will this end?” I mean, it didn’t hurt, but I found no enjoyment at all from the experience.

Did the name “shoe-gaze” really come from critics watching MBV look at their feet instead of the audience while performing? Too funny. I don’t know that this is a step forward from their previous albums, outside of the final songs becoming aggressive and noisy. Maybe it's here because it took 22 years to release. I prefer their earlier LPs. I’m surprised that 1001 would add 3 MBV LPS to their list, but according to Wiki this one got the hook, not surprisingly.

Nothing interesting at all about this album

Standard MBV noise

Ugh! Dismay, dreary, depressing - I didn't even finish the album (only the 2nd time) Life is too short for this album

The same noisy guitar drones through the album accompanied by a mumbling incomprehensible singing. This wasn't that great but I've heard worse.

its like a mediocre version of nine inch nails with tv static turned up in the background. very meh. should stay in the 2000s.

People here complaining that it’s too repetitive… and they’re right

I'm far from the biggest My Bloody Valentine fan, despite their sound being pretty adjacent to my taste. While Loveless had some great moments, I found there to be a lot of lackluster moments as well, and the general flow of the album to be lacking. While this album is much more consistent, it lacks the highlights of Loveless, and generally feels a lot blander. I really want to like these guys, but they never quite get there with any of their albums.

Couldn't get into it.

Not my thing

Slaapmuziek.

I literally cannot hear a word they are saying, they may as well not speak at all. I see so much hype around mbv but I just do not get it at all. The genre of 'noise' just does not really encapsulate me at all, it is mostly an ear ache. I probably will not revisit this, but I hope it grows on me if I do choose to. Favourites: she found now / new you / nothing is

This was very much background music to a streaming exclusive coming of age California teenager tv show. Nothing much of value I didn’t hate it I would give it a 2.5

MBV (and shoegaze in general) is really not my cup of tea. I consider this album as basically b-sides to Loveless. Everything's in the same ballpark, but demonstrably more boring.

Started calm and non offensive then it turned in to a droning mess without purpose or soul. Saw that they didn't make another album after that which I was happy to hear.

This band is a dude who has built his entire identity on his sick tattoos. The guitar effects are cool and all, but there's got to be something more. Best track: in another way

Every MBV album is the same wall of fuzz that only gets a 2/5.

This feels a bit too much like hard work. Clearly a lot has gone into this, it's a really complex layered album, but it's a bit too far gone from what makes a pop song; there's not enough real energy and structure in most of it, and the overall effect is too heavy to be ethereal but too lacking in... something... to be dark. 2/5.

Dissonant, meandering, mumbling, fuzzy, unintelligible. It’s “A” type of music but not “My” type of music.

There are some interesting things going on here but mostly sounds like repetitive garage echoing in a trash can. I definitely need to be in the mood to listen to this but would prefer it in the background ... which would mean I wouldn't be lustening to it any way. I want to listen to this again with a more production focused ear to see if there is anything worth keeping or determine if I thought there was any hope of saving anything from this album. This is definitely not a "must listen to" album but I give a two in hopes that there is something experimentally interesting that could be improved upon. That said I could believe a second listen may confirm the masters need to be shredded in order to save future potential listeners.

In some ways, MBV reminded me of a band I really like, The Dandy Warhols, mostly in the sense that they seem to want to make pop music that demands something of the listener. But where the Dandy's give you ample riffs and hooks and melodies to grab hold of and then throw in obtuse indulgencies for good measure, MTV starts there and keeps pushing. There were moments of pleasure, but this was hard to listen to. I don't get why this is important. It's like annoying abstract art in sound.

Back in 1991, MBV's second album, Loveless, hit me like a ton of bricks. It was such a unique approach to guitar rock. It was dreamy and noisy at the same time with Bilinda Butcher's breathy vocals floating way under the mix. Who knows what she was saying but who cared. I drove a couple of hours to see them live. And even though my hearing was damaged for three days afterwards (loudest show I ever saw), I was so glad I went, for they vanished for the next 22 years. There were rumors of a follow-up. The story I heard was Kevin Shields had recorded two album's worth of material, but for one reason or another, he scrapped them. As the years went on, a new MBV album seemed as likely as Half-Life 3. And then one day it suddenly dropped. And the reviews were great. I don't know that I ever bought a CD so quickly. And ... it was fine? I mean, I knew it wasn't going to be Loveless, but I was hoping for something a little more interesting. All the MBV elements are there and that's cool, but where Loveless was ethereal, this one is rather suffocating. Sounds like it was recorded in a closet. Also, it seems rather safe. And kind of tired. And the glorious hooks that were all over Loveless are missing here. Maybe that's the point, but if so it's a lousy point. I tried listening to it today without any of this backstory. Just wanted to evaluate it as an album. My opinion remains unchanged. It's a case of too little too late.

Wasn’t into this at all. Nothing offensive really, except “nothing is”. New you is the only track that even resembled a song to me. They basically waited 20 years to drop a ambient music for studying and concentration youtube video. Best: new you MMM: unfortunately the only memorable thing about this album was the painful repeating guitar and drums for 3.5 mins on nothing is.

Struggled a bit with this to be honest. Nois is fine but I also need a bit of a groove

Noise pop. Coñazo

I love a good raw feedback sounding album but nothing really got me on this one. There were a few small moments I thought a song was going to grab me but then it repeated the same pattern.

2.5 Difficult listen. Odd music.

1/9, 11%

I didn't think it was that bad, will have to listen to their first album. Second half of the record did drag out a bit

Fuck me, this is monotonous. Saved from a 1 by the electronic loveliness of is this and yes. And, lads, not using capital letters doesn’t make you look cool.

Not my favorite. Muddy guitar that sounds a little generic dirty rock guitar. 2/5

Just couldn't appreciate this album. The vocals seemed really low and I couldn't really hear them over the music. Music seemed to be a consistent hum and I could only really pick apart the chords and changes in a couple of songs.

mid bad valentine if you ask me. Not good content from them.

Not horrible, but pretty boring. I would put this on to do some homework or studying to.

Seeing "self produced" on an album description is rarely a good thing and "MBV" is a good example of why. The production is just bloody awful. It's a pile of wailing vocals buried under a muddy mess of instruments. Utterly unintelligible and completely ignorable.

Listened Before? N I understand that these guys were MIA for more than two decades at one point, during which their fans had given up hope of them ever producing anything again... but here they are. So, I believe there's a bit of rose-colored glasses syndrome going on here... because this record is awful. Repetitive, incomprehensible, and noisy. I won't stoop as low as to give it a 1 star review because I understand why it's here... but I will never listen to it again. It was bad. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Only Tomorrow

That was boring.

Seems to be missing what made their early stuff reasonably interesting. And that was a stretch

Hated the first few tracks. Distortion is not music sorry not sorry. Rare case where they lose a point off the average because they failed to pull off being artsy so badly I can't even muster pity for them

too noisy

A very uneventful and unnecessary album that was also plagued by awful (or intentially awful) mixing

Kinda boring and spacey.

Did another one before. It's a unique sound, but one that makes everything feel like a first draft, rather than actual finished songs. It's not for me.

Couldn't hear a damn thing

Prefiero el loveless.

Okay, I've now listened to all three MBV albums thanks to y'all, and this was definitely my least favorite. They are not my thing and I'm glad there's not more.

Just give me a good album pls

Offensively dull

There were aspects of this album that I really liked, but when taken as a whole it just fell flat. I genuinely love music that has a lot of interesting and even disperate things going on but this album really seemed to take that idea and make it boring somehow? I did really like she found now though

So fuzzy

Kinda boring

Jakbym słuchał soundtracku do kilku gier na raz.

4/10. Has the texture of porridge. Would probably be excellent to listen to if I was trying to fall asleep

Unwittingly and entirely against my will I have now listened to the ENTIRE My Bloody Valentine back catalogue. I wish I could say it had been in any way an enjoyable, interesting, or fulfilling 2 hours and 13 minutes. Whilst there is more identifiable tune going on here than their previous two efforts, it is still basically dirge, but with modern production. This album took from 1997 until 2011 to come to fruition. I would rather they hadn't bothered. Rating: 2/5 Playlist track: only tomorrow Date listened: 06/10/22

- Hey we invented a genre that's so dull the name is literally just staring at the floor, want to listen? Nah I'm alright thanks mate.

Atmospheric and moody, also dull and repetitious

Just keeps going on and on.

During the 4th song I wondered if the first song ended already. Sounds a bit like comforting noise

On the first listen I thought the car radio was broken and had to skip. On the earbuds it was okay I gues but I remember very little of it

Love MBV but this one isn't for me

Boring. Some new sounds but very monotonous.

I don’t really enjoy the shoe gaze genre. It feels like it’s trying to be modern psychedelic but without any substance or talent. I didn’t absolutely hate this album but I wouldn’t revisit it either. 3.7/10

Herranjestas miten tylsä levy. Miten voi olla näin paljon huonompi kuin loveless :D

Shoe gazing noise, can hear My Vitriol in Loveless - seems like a better album than m b v anyway. So rating this low but Loveless higher

Alt rock/indie. Genre is known as Shoegaze. Extreme volume and heavy on guitar texture/distortions. My Bloody Valentine is thought to be the godfathers of Shoegaze. New you was good, psychedelic experience Wonder 2 was trippy

thumbs down.

Two MBV albums? i don't know if i agree - i mean the first "Loveless" even if it's not my favourite music I can definitely understand being on the list; it really sounded and *felt* like nothing i'd heard before. I suppose though the same things I could never fully connect with on Loveless apply here as well - underwater/warbly effects to the extreme... just doesn't seem as revolutionary when it's another album of the same. None of these are truly "songs" in any traditional sense - again, that's kind of cool in the abstract but it's also not really working for me as any sort of background or atmospheric mood. I've just ended up either being annoyed/distracted at what is often approaching grating. The first half was fine - but after 20 minutes or so it really started to fall apart, and maybe it's simply that after 20 minutes of this ... that's enough. Also the final two cuts are omg please stop - especially "nothing is" - a joke on anyone who bought this album. come on, now. A 20 years waiting for the same thing is a long slog - I'm fine with Loveless on occasion but a big no to the remix. 4/10 2 stars.

Robert peut bien aller se faire foutre avec ses albums de merde de indie et de shoegaze sensés représenter les années 2010.

It was okay, good as background music

Very noisy. Some songs felt like I was listening to them on a radio station as I slowly left the station’s range and static took over.

I have tried and tried to get into Loveless, but the wall of sound buried melodies and mumbled vocals just don't do it for me. This album seems more of the same but it seems to have more moments where I found myself nodding my head and thinking ok yes this part does work. On a couple of occasions they dial back the distortion and feedback to where one can actually hear individual instruments. Still the overall feel is of pleasant noise instead of stirring music. 2.5 🌟

I'm not sure this album was worth the 22 year wait. The DJ Wrongspeed thing is annoying.

Though I love a few good noise & post-rock sounds -- A Place to Bury Strangers, Mogwai both come to mind -- I couldn't get into this.

5th May 2022 Listened in the morning, chilled in the evening. Quiet day. It goes straight in as if you’re late to the gig, or you’ve heard them playing in the garage and you want to see what the noise is. Speaking of noise, I think that’s what this is. In a good and bad way.

This was just loud

Slow, melancholic, droney. All together not too bad.

Not a big fan of MBV anyway, and this didn't change things.

Some songs took me back to my emo roots, but mostly it was bleh

Didn’t mind ‘in another way’ but overall boring.

det är väl sisådär. fattar inte den här genren.

Couldn't really get into it much.

There are a couple of songs that hit the stride quickly, like new you and if I am... but yeah, most of the others just miss the mark. Not something I'm likely to pull out ever again.

When I got this album, I just thought "Ok...let me listen to this 1-star album"... However, after listening to the whole album, I was kind of hypnotized by this noise ambiance song with dirty guitars....so, 2 stars are enough for the power of hypnotizing songs, and maybe this is the reason to include the album on this list.

not my cup of tea

I love the album artwork, but 2013's bloody valentine sounds remarkable similar to 1991's. There doesn't seem to be any stylistic innovation or growth, which is surprising when there's a 22 year gap between albums. It sounds like elevator music for a 2000's wannabe indie neo-noir film that no one saw. This is too much of a downer for me, I won't be coming back to it.

Guitarrero y un tanto oscuro. No me ha aportado nada y no me ha gustado que no se entienda casi nada de la voz del cantante

Several years ago I bought a synthesizer. I don't know how to play keyboards, but had it in my mind that I would learn. I was fascinated by all of the buttons and knobs, and spent about an hour just making random noises. Eventually my wife reached her breaking point and told me I either needed to use headphones or she was going to divorce me. If only she would have recorded the noise I was making, it could have been a follow up album to this. First song was static and strumming. Second song is distortion and some kind of unintelligible singing. And it just didn't get better. I'm all for distortion in rock music, but there has to be something more than this. It's like if you took a Smashing Pumpkins album, made the singing shitty, and put the speakers under water. Why does this album exist, and why in the world is it on a list of must listen to music?

bland and also horrible

Wow. I hated every moment of this. I ended up playing something else a couple of times to check my speakers were working. Awful

What an indistinct roar. It's not even good enough as background noise. 1/5

I tried but that was ass bad

Watery pish
