Just a Xmas album that I don't have too much to say about
Good album for Christmas, but this one belongs in the "good music / bad people" record bin. I read up a bit on the Wrecking Crew because I know Carol Kaye was a monster on bass sessions.
Good stuff. Classic Xmas songs with the PS treatment.
This album is a masterclass in wall of sound asthetics, and for that it's worth listening to for anyone who's serious about music production, mixing, or history. I find the wall of sound endearing, and makes for an easy long stretches of listening on the headphones without killing my ears. But definitely I don't want all my music to be wall of sound. For the music itself, not sure there's anything to say, saccharin formulaic christmas songs with good performances, but not something to seek out. I think this album 100% fits the "albums you have to listen to" for me. But one listen is absolutely enough.
Honestly, that’s a really good Christmas album. Definitely going to have this one on cover to cover (maybe minus Silent Night with Phil Spector’s monologue) next holiday season. Really liked Santa Claus is Coming to Town by The Crystals and The Bells of St. Mary by Bob B. Sox. 7/10, 3 stars.
I am always quite ambivilant regarding christmas songs.
Sometimes regarded as the best Christmas album of all time (DISAGREE!), this is a prime example of Spector's "wall of sound". It's a good album. Pitchfork: n/a Rolling Stone: n/a Best Songs Sleigh Ride Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home)
Inconsistent but some of the best XMas songs are on here. 3 stars for being seasonal.
Nah, not on January 5th - sorry.
I was expecting more from this as it is always billed as an album with superb production. It reminded me of the Beach Boys doing Christmas. Lovely hearing these songs again. Again being the operative word. Maybe they are too familiar for me to have an impact.
A compilation full of good renditions of Christmas classics. It's a fun listen during the Christmas season, but obviously not really going to be touched any other time. At this point I'm so Christmas-ed out that I'm listening to this in a sort of stupor. But it's solid. It's all-female 50s-60s rock groups produced by everyones favorite murderer/producer Phil Spector! You know what it's gonna sound like. Best songs are "Sleigh Ride" "Winter Wonderland" and "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" which is featured in every Christmas movie you've ever seen. I'm a pretty vanilla Christmas person myself. Love the classics. Solid 3/5, fun for the season. And never forget, boys and girls: Phil Spector shot a lady in the face and killed her. And to all a good night.
Ok Christmas album with some great songs but gets old real quick
Very cool to have this at Christmas, it’s very of the era in terms of production quality, but I liked that it as a take on Christmas that wasn’t just religious and clearly influenced so much media following it.
Helt ok för julmusik
Solid with some of the best christmas songs I know. Creepy that I have to think of Phil Spector being a murderer whenever I hear it now...
its an album I will listen to once a year only. I listened to this while cooking the Christmas dinner and it served its purpose. 3 stars
It's Christmas music! Great Song added to playlist: - Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)
A little boring.
Crunchy chocolate bar, nougat
This is a great Christmas album but tbh I’m over Christmas by Christmas Day lol. Would have been nice a week ago 0:)
Meh
classic. can never go wrong with these songs.
7/10
As far as Christmas music goes, this album goes pretty hard.
Classico album di Natale, bellissime voci, un paio di chicche che non conoscevo, e bellissima la versione di Christmas (Baby Please Come Home), forse la migliore che io abbia mai sentito.
I'm not a massive fan of Christmas music but this was a nice collection of songs. I knew more than I first thought and it was a festive listen though I wouldn't really listen to full albums of Christmas songs. Overall nothing outstanding but I guess a fitting listen for today.
super
Groaned when I saw this one bc not a big fan of Christmas music, HOWEVER my big gripe should be why isn't this called "Darlene Love presents..." Talk about women being the creators of Holiday Magic. Good nostalgic album.
Listening to this one precisely on Christmas Day. In the West, this date is highly symptomatic, and the way the American cultural industry has encapsulated it is quite bizarre. It is telling that this album was produced during turbulent nights, excessively exploiting the musicians and pushing them to exhaustion in order to create a record that sounds happy and harmonious. This is the kind of “Christmas spirit” produced by the United States. Nothing new under the sun — but it is always meaningful to look closely at these contradictions. More than forty years after the release of this album, Phil Spector, its producer, committed the murder of an actress, making it even clearer that his concern with the record was far more about sales and business than about spreading any genuine message of Christmas peace and love. Despite all this, the talent of the singers and musicians is undeniable. This is, of course, a product made for sale, but it is equally undeniable that it is a beautiful one. The singers possess immense talent, and despite the industry’s exploitation surrounding them, it is still possible to find living, genuine art in their voices.
Fab Chrimbo songs
Very festive!
I mean, it's classic Christmas songs.
THE christmas album pretty solid christmas songs, maybe not an all the time album for me personally but good for christmas music 3 stars- 8/10 as christmas songs 5.5/10 as music itself
Süßes Weihnachtsalbum!! (Aber halt trz ”nur“ ein Weihnachtsalbum)
very fun christmas vibes
Overall rating by me: 6/10 Notes: Nothing special, just old-style Christmas songs.
Some definite classics on here, but I don’t know that I’m going to be listening to the whole album that often.
Merry Chrisis
a few absolutely terrific classics (sleigh ride, christmas [baby please come home]) and a few not so terrific songs.
Phil Spector sucks
Some fun Christmas tunes I know. Others I didn't know, but still captured the Christmas vibes really well. Personally, I'm not too much into music from the '60s, though I'll excuse it because it's Christmas music :)) Not the best Christmas album I've heard. I thought it was funny that the producer was thanking people on the last track. I've never heard of something like that before.
Would like a bit more of dynamic
cri mah
Fine enough Christmas classics.
Watching on Christmas was great. It brought vibes, not a lot more. I loved "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus".
Pretty good Christmas album, though don’t love that it was produced by a murderer.
Proper Christmassy x
christms 👍
so this is obviously one of the best christmas albums of all time. this captures the essence of the holidays so well. (had no idea phil spector was evil until reading other reviews)
Banging
Oude kerstmuziek. Staan een aantal echte classics op en het outronummer is een prachtige touch. Ik luister qua productie liever naar Mariah Carey of Bublé, maar voor een keer op eerste kerstdag is dit ook erg fijn om te luisteren. 5,5
This is the only time you should accept a gift from Phil Spector!
I don't tend to like Christmas music, but let's see. Vocals were nice always and the maximalist production felt sometimes right like in The bells of Saint Mary but sometimes too much like in Frosty the Snowman
Kerstmuziek. Prima, klinkt wel gezellig. Ben geen groot fan
classic christmas album, no notes
Definitely some Christmas classics on this album that I love to hear every year. I've heard most of these songs many times, but didn't realize they were all on one album and the history of that album. Have to say that the "Silent Night" at the end with Spector doing the talk over about the album is a bit bizarre and self-serving.
wish phil spector didn’t kill anyone
BIEN POUR NOEL
pretty standard christmas music. i like christmas (baby please come home) because i’ve heard it before. the ending was really sweet, it exemplifies the christmas spirit. a bunch of artists coming together to share merriment and jolly.
Classic Christmas songs with a very old-school feel. Not really my thing, but it was fine overall. Some songs were enjoyable, but not something I’d come back to often.
Some great Christmas hits on here. Lacks the definitive versions of many of these songs though and Christmas songs are pretty average by definition.
Spector did a great job with this but it’s still Christmas music…
Good!!!
3.5
3.5/5 - Still a lot of the main Christmas songs on this list. Wall of sound is always good.
It's a good Christmas album nothing more to say. I hate the fact that Phil Spector's name is associated with this. I hate that scumbag so much.
Hate Phil Spector, love Darlene Love’s “Baby Please Come Home”.
album giáng sinh thôi, meh
It's an ok album for me because it's good but I'm not really very passionate about Christmas songs, specially in English (because it's not my first language)
All Favourites!!!
Good to very good Christmas Music - very nostalgic.
Track 1. (White Christmas) Love this version, actually, it's so good. Never heard of Darlene Love before, though lol. 7.4/10 Track 2. (Frosty The Snowman) The Ronnets, icons they are and this is also good. 7/10 Track 3. (The Bells of St. Mary) Never heard of the artist, nor the song tbh. Good though. 6.8/10 Track 4. (Santa Claus Is Coming To Town) oh hey, Crystals, my icons. But this isnt that good tbh... 5.5/10 Track 5. (Sleigh Ride) Most iconic Christmas song argue with the wall against my icons, the Ronettes. 8.2/10 Track 6. (A Marshmello World) It's alright. 6.2/10 Track 7. (I saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus) Again, iconic and really good, actually. 7.6/10 Track 8. (Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer) Sounds a little uncanny tbh, not that amazing. 5.3/10 Track 9. (Winter Wonderland) basic. 5.5/10 Track 10. (Parade Of The Wooden Soldiers) Don't think Ive ever heard this song before, its alright. 6/10 Track 11. (Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)) Yes, so iconic and such a classic. 8/10 Track 12. (Here Comes Santa Claus) sure... 4/10 Track 13. (Silent Night) not really a song, so. 3/10 Notes: It's actually really cool how these icons came together for a Christmas album, really cool. Overall score: 6.2/10
good back ground chistmas music
Cool, unique sound that was later adopted by much of Motown. I really like the sound.
best song: sleigh ride worst song: - surprise song: -
Well, it's perfect for what it is and sounds amazing. Too bas that "what it is" doesnt interest me very much.
Wall of sound Xmas, pretty much what one would expect. Mostly familiar arrangements with a few less familiar.
Before listening: I'm not sure I'm in the mood for more Christmas music today but i will try my best. The album art is cute, its giving old magazine ad spread in a charming way, if not a little pedestrian but this is Christmas music. I don't recognize anyone on the cover but many of the songs are familiar so well see. Also wig. Listening: Sing it. I don't know if i can rank Christmas music in the same way as all other music so this is going to be odd. The instrumental feels weighted. Sleigh Ride is great. Homey feeling. Christmas ( Baby please come home) is a classic, this rendition especially. Don't love the thanks over silent night like let me hear silent night, it was silenced. After listening: I am glad i listened to this one, i wasn't super excited when we stared but i came around by the end. It's a solid Christmas album but I am also not in the market for ranking Christmas music against one another. It doesn't feel like embracing the festive nature or something. 7/10
A pretty good collection of classic Christmas songs.
Vintage Christmas vibes. Not too much autotune so pleasant
Some obvious classics which elevate the entire album.
I absoloutley love older Christmas songs. Anything made post 1990 (or anything produced by mariah carey) just isn't what Christmas feels like.
Having worked retail jobs for some years, Christmas music has mostly been ruined for me, and it's a rare day when I choose to put it on of my own free will. That said, it's the holiday season and I'm feeling generous; this is probably the best Christmas music can aspire to be. Having the album be a compilation of various artists really helps cut down on the repetition that a full Christmas album would typically involve. The production is unusually good for this kind of music. In general, many Christmas songs have wimpy, music-box instrumentation with the vocals way in the front of the production, and there's none of that here. The instruments and vocals are balanced to the point where you feel we're all in the room together (I guess this is Phil Specter's "Wall of Sound" concept). I particularly like the trumpet solo on "Here Comes Santa Clause". Darlene Love's "Christmas", which originated with this album and is probably one of the best Christmas songs out there, is the standout here. At the end of the day, though, these are still Christmas standards we've all heard a million times, and I felt my attention wandering on some tracks. I think this is ideally just thrown on in the background to contribute to a holiday mood; just a slightly elevated version of what we do already with Christmas music, but I'd rather hear this than a Spotify playlist that might subject me to something too saccharine and annoying (although I'd put "Parade of the Wooden Soldiers" off this album in that category).
Most of the songs were good but the album as a whole is less dynamic. It hits different during Christmas time tho.
Not too interruptive, fine background music.
As a Colombian this Christmas music does not resonate deeply with me. Still, I think it’s a good attempt to recreate these classics.
Pleasant. Not Extraordinary.
It's good. It's Christmas. The weird message from Phil Spector at the end was an unfortunate mistake, and weird. Three stars. (Favorite track: Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).)
Christmas album with Christmas classics what could go wrong
8/13 bekannt 6/10 Beste Songs: white Christmas, Santa Claus is coming to town, sleigh ride
its a christmas album nothing to add xd
ja typisch kerst whatkennaysaaaaaaaay. cant go wrong with it duhhhh
Classic Christmas sound. This is the highest rating I could give any Christmas music.
merry christmas what do you mean he killed someone
This is the perfect album to have on in the background during Christmas Day. It is definitely some of the most soulful and passionate Christmas music out there and I really appreciate the layers of instruments that make each track feel grand. It’s definitely not my first pick for what I’d listen to around the holidays, maybe I’m looking for something a bit more poppy and upbeat, but with that being said I do think it captures the spirit of the holiday excellently.
Nice Christmas songs.
really not thrilled about the idea of listening to this album but decided to get through it for the actual talented artists involved but fuck you phil spector i hope you rot you piece of shit i really love some of the vocals on here (especially darlene love) but yeah its christmas music, it has its place but its kind of an odd thing to rank because its purpose is so specific. as a christmas album its really great but if i’m ranking it like i would a normal album then its just fine so going above or below a 3 feels wrong in a way i can’t explain top 3: - christmas (baby please come home) (darlene love) - winter wonderland (darlene love) - sleigh ride (the ronettes)
M'ha fet molta gràcia q fos de Nadal. Si no es per festes no me l'escoltaria, però està bé perquè te totes les cançons que sempre sonen. Per tant, li donc un 3.
merry christmas!!
I usually don’t listen to mainstream Christmas music, but when I do, this is what I enjoy.
I mean, good Xmas music I guess
I mean, who can't appreciate Christmas songs. That being said, I'm listening on 12/29 because I missed this on Christmas. I am a bit Christmased out at this point.
Excellent album, with some of the best christmas bangers ever!
The recording over Silent Night is endearing, but makes for an eerie experience in 2025.
Wall of Sound+ Classic Girl Bands= Brilliant Overplayed Christmas Songs in Dec= Pass
It's an album full of Christmas songs. What do you expect. Also fuck you Phil Spector hope you rot in hell.
Maybe take Phil Spector’s name off this one and cut the outro
Took be back to the fifties... an era I did not exist.
I like apple pie. But I don't want to eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I like some of Phil Spector's productions too. But there can be too much of too muchness. Especially with Christmas songs, which I can only take so much of as well. If this was just the single "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" backed by "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town," it would be perfect. But I've begun to think the 45 rpm was Spector's ultimate medium: the full-on ecstatic adrenaline rush in three minutes and then you're done. A little bit of that guy goes a long way.
Got it on 25th of December.
It sure is a phil spektor Christmas album.
Heart Xmas: the Album, with added ick courtesy of Phil Spector.
As far as Christmas albums go, pretty great.
Rock solid Christmas album. Seasonal and fun. Great powerful production given the era.
A good Christmas album. So it’s obviously only played one month a year. Kind of makes it middle of the road for me.
January 7th is probably the wrong time to rate this
Fun Christmas album
Nice album for the holidays. I'm not exactly sure why this is on the list. Are these the definitive versions? I grew up with the "An All-Star Country Christmas", same songs and just as good of an album. That probably won't get recommended. I have nothing bad to say about this album though.
This is an album I've probably heard many times growing up, but ad no clue what it was called. It's a solid classic Christmas compilation!
All the classics in one spot.
Hard to enjoy, knowing about Phil Spector now
Pretty cool that 1001 albums recommended this on Christmas. I was so tired of hearing "Last Christmas" and "All I want for Christmas is you" over and over. This felt like a much better collection of Christmas songs. It had warmth and comfort even if it wasn't the best musically. I can see myself coming back to the album when I am down.
From the heyday of Christmas song recording comes this gem. The songs are on point and it's all topped off with a personal message from the manipulator and convicted murderer himself. Love the art, hate the artist.
Christmas, Christmas!
Yeah a Christmas staple. Doesn't feel quite so sentimental.
Great reminder of how phenomenal those girl groups were. And ANY chance to hear the great Ronnie Spector should not be passed by. But Phil can kiss my ass.
Holy shit he killed someone ????
Can’t talk trash about Christmas albums.
Great songs but this is just a compilation of classic Christmas songs, is this really a must listen album?
Yeh xmas vibes
Christmas in all of this album
I feel like it is tough to rate a Christmas album, especially around Christmas time. The songs are well-known, well-executed and well-produced. But I feel as though it is hard to do anything special with it, which it therefore didn’t do. 3/5
It's a Christmas album
Good old fashioned Christmas music
This was a fun Christmas surprise. I heard that everyone gets this record on their first Christmas. It's a fun collection of songs with some absolute classic versions of tunes that I will definitely be adding to my Christmas playlist. Fun fact: this was the day that I learned that Phil Spector was both a convicted murderer and died of Covid
It's a Christmas album, its fine.
Happy Christmas!
ну да, это сборник рождественских песен, и что дальше
Good
Upbeat julestemning på boks. Produksjonen blir litt slitsom etter hvert. Høydepunkt: The Ronettes - Sleigh Ride
Thatbis a good surprise! I didn't listen to this album at Christmas, but should have. The album is full of vhristmas classic and bring the magic of Christmas even if it is not. Good to xheck nee bands and recognise the classics. However, I ask myself if it should be on this list. Good discovery, but is it a necessary album, if so Sufjan Stevens albuns could also be easily mentioned on this list. 3/5
A solid Christmas album that you can play in the background of your Christmas party and it won’t draw a lot of attention to itself. Also Phil Spector is a murderer.
Solid Christmas Album. 3 stars.
Halt Weihnachtslieder 3/5
Classic
3.0 RYM
Fun, nice, but a bit too samey.
Seasonal fun
Good stuff
It feels illegal to listen to Christmas music after Christmas is over.
Very nice, these songs are classics and listened through all the Christmas period, and it's easy to listen to, once.
Sometimes things line up correctly. Got this album on Christmas Day. My dad and I were listening to this as we were waiting for the rest of the family to wake up. My and I just hanging out and enjoying a contemporary Christmas album. The album was okay but Phil Spector’s “Wall Of Sound” technique of producing got a bit annoying after a while.
This is really the quintessential Christmas album. Christmas time has a lot of weird issues, but ultimately it does bring people together and make them happy. And I appreciate that this album avoids most of the a weirdness that can come with Christmas for those of us entrenched in the traditions but not the religious side of it. I dunno if this is my favourite Christmas album ever, but it is definitely clear that these version of the classical folky Christmas songs are the ones that appear everywhere. Either these or the Sinatra versions. Sleigh Ride is probably my pick from this album.
I was fairly impressed with Spector’s Wall of Sound back in the day. Now it just sounds dated and irrelevant. Of course, generally, I’m not much of a Christmas music fan. Bah, humbug!
I mean, it’s American Xmas music?
The production is stunning! Not all these would be included in my personal favorite set of Christmas songs, but Baby Please Come Home is one of the best of all time for sure!
It’s famous artist of the time doing standard Christmas covers. The singers are great, and it makes some of the numbers better then what we normally hear but you can only really listen at a certain time of year.
Un par de classicsss Da nostalgia y facil lo ponen en mood de navidad Pero si no es navidad esta mas o menos
Thx Phil Spector - great classic Christmas hitz - not murdering
En klassiker! Hört och kört många jular.
This is definitely of an era... A relentless onslaught of Christmas.
If you ignore the producer, it's a great Xmas album.
clásicos, pero todos cantados muy del mismo estilo
Não curto muita música de natal mas acabei gostando bastante das músicas das ronettes
Classic christmas songs but might not feel so awkward if they took Phil Spectors name off the cover.
Giving it a 3 stars as probably set bar for change in Christmas music avail from contemporary artists. But style of music not to my taste
not bad. It works.
cute that they put a christmas album but i wanted something else LOL merry christmas im ngl i skipped through this cause all the songs sound the same and im tired of christmas songs but its solid for a christmas album
Can’t really fault it, it does what it says on the tin. Just some really great covers. Won’t be listening again for a while now though 😂
Solid classic Christmas
Some classics, some boring songs
Classic
Fun classic christmas
Awesome compilation of songs that capture the essence of Christmas. I love it but I can't give it a hight rating because I will be playing it only once a year. I recommend it.
not really my kind of christmas music, but not terrible
ho-ho-homicide!
I never listen to Christmas music on my own, but this was filled with classic bangers and I appreciate the cuteness
Will add the album to this year's Christmas Playlist.
It's great, It's the Phil Spector wall of sound, but i left it a day too late. 3 points for now, but added to next year's Xmas listening!
Not the best collection of Christmas songs I’ve ever heard but got the job done on a Xmas day drive
Christmas innit.
Classic
Fun! But creepy when he speaks over Silent Night.
Good for Christmas day that's for sure!
Christmas. 60/100 Score edited 28/01/26
Solid entries I guess but not my go-to if I were needing this fix.
It killed Kennedy?! Needs more sleigh bells?! Hätte ich wahrscheinlich im April besser gefunden
As far as Christmas music goes, this is about as good as it gets. Bonus points for the creepy as hell Phil Spector VO at the end.
This is a good Christmas album however, just like every other Christmas album, nothing special. At least these songs are more original than the usual slop you hear though. I don't think this is top 1000 of all time but it's not bad to have on in the background
Classic Christmas Musc
As far as christmas albums go this is a fairly cool one....
fun christmas music, but I felt some of the less interesting songs made the hits hit less
I mean, it's a bunch of classics. Not sure how to really rate this -- all well performed songs, not all my favorite renditions but certainly many that I know and enjoy hearing.
All the old feel good bangers. No Michael Buble to be seen. So only the Grinch would give it a weak mark.
Don’t think it should’ve been in top 1001 albums but still good if at Christmas time
Hard to make a judgement on this one, sounds like most other Christmas themed albums to me. Good job I was given this album to listen to today though, or I suspect this would have been a lower rating, aha.
Very nice pick for Christmas. Took me back to simpler times.
Great album for the season, but it's probably not fair to compare a Christmas album with famous singers and groups playing all well known songs verses a single group playing all their own work.
This was like being at my nans on Christmas. It’s warm, I can smell cigarettes and party food and the Christmas lights are flashing red blue and green. Honestly didn’t know some of these were by the same group. Don’t like Phil Spector tho x
Good music. A new take for Christmas for the release year. Cringy message at end knowing the history.
Classic Christmas songs that I was already playing to please my elders every year during the holidays. For that I’m grateful, but they’re sugar-sweet pop songs and they’ve only survived because they were written to cloy and not offend.
One of the better Christmas albums for sure. 3.5-4
Phil Spector created a sound that has been expounded upon for generations of people that will never even know his name. Great Christmas listen
Fuck you 100 album generator and your inability to save properly. Cant remember what i wrote but something about compilation albums and can they be great, and why not it is about albums not 1001 greatest artists or whatever. Also the Ronettes sound like the Sopranos and its hilarious once you have tht in your head.
It's full of bangers and super fun, but to call this an album is cheating. It is at best a compilation, a great one at that
Classic
Phil Spector delivered the most aggressively, killing, joyfully, shooting, his, victim, Christmas album. 7.5/10.
very awkward now…. but this was a jam
Pretty solid holiday fare from a …MURDERER!
Pretty groovy collection. It’s still a Christmas album though.
I prefer more classical takes on these Christmas songs
The benchmark for these Christmas songs.
Some classics.
Frábær jólaplata
Bara solid jólaplata. Pottþétt geggjuð þegar hún kom út, en í dag virkar þetta bara sem safnplata með vinsælum jólalögum 🧐
Was not expected to know so many, he really produced a lot of christmas classics. The Ronette's sound was my favorite of the groups, a very unique tone and fun harmony. The layers of instrumentation were consistently high on every track in the album. Unfortunately unlistenable 99% of the year
A pleasant surprise for Christmas Day. Lots of classics on here, enjoyed the listen overall. Read more about Phil Spector as a result, very interesting…
This was a straight down the middle Christmas album. It didn't try to do anything fancy, just gave you the hits and got out quicker than Santa up a chimney.
Enjoyable Christmas album
Saturnalian
Man I wish I had actually listened to this on Christmas. Good Christmas album.
Better than some of the "gifts" Phil could give you! Xmas music largely annoys me but this album has a lot of all-star vocal talent with one epic track on it. Top tracks: "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)," "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus"
Definitely a Christmas album. The Ronettes prevented total boredom
Would be a 5 on Christmas Day, but I didn't listen to it that day. Will definitely revisit during the festive season
Thanks, generator, for this sparkly gift.
The fact that Spector ended up dying in prison a convicted murderer somewhat taints the festive shimmer of this one. It also doesn't help that I'm listening to it in January. They're perfectly charming Christmas songs though, and there's no denying 'that' production style does bring a certain something to proceedings.
it's a christmas album but i can't get over the fact that it's a 13 year old singing some of those tracks Would I listen again? Technically Deserves to be on this list? Not even the best Xmas album 3.4
Classical Christmas music two weeks after Christmas doesn't go down well. Okay, I'll give a...
Pretty average Christmas album, and definitely not the one I would choose to put on this list.
So, I have been informed that for the first time Christmas Day rolls around per project, the website has it set up so that this album comes up automatically. Pretty funny stuff. Makes sense, naturally. It’s been a very, very cool and rewarding first year on this website and I’m looking forward to finishing the fight to the very end. I know I still have a long way to go, but I’m going to keep going, and review every single album on here. Who’d have thought that my first album on the website put together by a convicted murderer would be a classic, upbeat Christmas album. For those unaware, that is unfortunately the legacy of Phil Spector. So just hearing his jovial voice in the last song on the album is honestly a bit haunting, obviously unintentionally so. What happened man… As far as the album goes, it’s 3 stars. It’s just a bunch of Christmas Songs and nothing more. If I was more of a Grinch I’d give it a 2 because Christmas songs are just boring and kind of annoying to me, but I can’t do it. You definitely know what you’re getting in to with this one, and even still I just can’t dislike it all that much because of how talented and happy everyone is performing these classic songs. “Sleigh Ride” is the best of the bunch for sure. That song is just way too happy and catchy to hate and I think the Ronettes sing it wonderfully here. There are a few songs on here I actually haven’t heard of at all before, so that’s a bit notable I guess. For instance, I’ve never heard of “A Marshmallow World” or “The Bells of St. Mary” before. Overall, this album was a very appropriate and fun time, and I’m thankful I got to check it out while opening up presents with the family. Merry Christmas everyone!! Don’t kill people. Murder is generally frowned upon.
Quite a nice collection of Christmas songs. Some enjoyable versions of some classic songs. But a Christmas album is just never going to be my thing. Fav song: Sleigh Ride Least fav: Parade of the Wooden Soldiers
Really odd listening to this on Boxing Day. Very happy I didn’t leave it later. Some god songs even though the guy is a murderer. Specific rating - 3.4 Fav song - Christmas (baby please come home) Least fav- silent night
This album deserves its spot on the list for the wikipedia read alone- at my count this guy has five albums he produced on the list, and then you reach the murder section. The album itself was exactly what you'd expect- lovely to listen to on Christmas morning but hard to rate Christmas songs that highly. Favourite song: Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) Least: The Bells of St. Mary
Kiva kuunnella näin tammikuussa. Olihan tuossa silti tunnelmaa!
For what it is, this is pretty decent Christmas music. I have a soft spot for the Christmas songs of the 50s and 60s, the old timey quality takes the edge off the saccharine content. But it’s still just basic Christmas songs.
Merry Christmas, Joe and Matt! You filthy, musical creatures. We’ve survived everything from hip hop dross to untouchable legends. It’s been a pleasure slogging through the sonic swamp with you both. Here’s to finding more absolute filth and the occasional masterpiece in 2026. Oh some fairly unremarkable Christmas songs at Christmas I guess I will be generous and rate this too!
very fun even if it runs on slightly too long. they save the real banger for the end
The sound of a cute bouutique that has nothing I actually want to buy in it at Christmas.
Fine. Didn't feel like a Christmas album in June
So this is Christmas? This album gets more wild when you look up who Phil Spector is. Favourite track: Sleigh Ride.
Enjoyable.
A collection of well sung christmas songs: fine but nothing more than that. Also, ending this thing with a christmas wish from Phil Spector doesn’t feel right in hindsight as well.
Bom, mas não serve para outras épocas a não ser o Natal
Christmas classics
It’s a Christmas album
Its christmas music
Good solid christmas music.
It’s a Christmas album yeah
70% Best: White Christmas; Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer; Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) Must-Hear? No
These are the most classy Christmas songs known to man I think. Most grown-ups have heard these so many times... They are good for Christmas, but I would not listen to it outside that season
Classic hits
Christmas at the Wall of Sound
I'm not really sure if this belongs on this list because it's a compilation, but getting this on Christmas day was a nice touch. Obviously I've heard most of these before, but I enjoy this type of Christmas song over the more more modern Mariah Carey ones. Sleigh Ride especially is a legitimately excellent song.
Would be amazing if it wasn't Christmas music. Christmas (baby please come home) goes unnecessarily hard for a Christmas song. Years ago I was surprised to find that it's nigh impossible to find an artist that hasn't done at least one Christmas song. $$$
Santa's sleigh crashes into the Wall of Sound with mixed results. This is hard to rate because really you'd just listen to it one month out of the year (if that), so let's go right down the middle. Highlights: "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" (The Crystals), "Sleigh Ride" (The Ronettes), "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" (Darlene Love)
Not a bad Christmas album- glad for the festive music pic for the holiday.
Classic Christmas songs.
Convenient that I got 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 album for Christmas! ── ࣪˖ ࣪ ⊹ ࣪ ˖ ── The album was alright — better than the usual crap they have at Macy's around the holidays, but there was nothing particularly noteworthy about it. If I were in charge of 1001Albums, I'd have included "The Beach Boys' Christmas Album" instead but to each their own. I don't think Beach Boys seem appropriate for the occasion anyways. Also, fuck Phil Spector.
Christmas ini
Christmas
A typical Christmas album. Nothing extra to say
It’s Christmas music. Not much to get excited about here.
Good Christmas album
Phil Spector produced some good music, but it's Phil Spector. Don't want to disparage the good artists on this Christmas album. It's good if you want some good American ballads for the holidays.
Feliz navidad
Maybe the random generator is biased towards christmas music for christmas, but it's a bunch of classics that set the mood well.
I dig most of these individually, but the fill album to too much. It gets grating. Classic wall of sound and strong female vocals celebrate Christmas, from the little Jewish man.
Ok, ok, I see you. A Christmas album on Christmas. Very cute. But honestly, come on. This? I mean it's cool but it's missing a lot of the real classic recordings from this era. I know it's a compilation specifically produced by Phil Spector, so there weren't going to be any non-Spector tracks here. But still, for me no Christmas album is complete without some of the real classics (Brenda Lee, anyone?). But it serves its purpose as a Christmas album just fine. As an album overall? I dunno. It's cool I guess. Something to listen through, not to. I wouldn't ever put this on except as background music at a Christmas party, you know? Like I would never choose to sit down and listen to this intentionally in or out of the holiday season. So I don't really know how to rate this. So I guess it gets the benefit of the doubt and gets three stars. Meh. Standout Tracks: Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)
A nice little compilation.
R&B version of Christmas Classics. Enjoyable and surprising take on Christmas Classics.
Well, it's a Christmas album
Christmas compilation long time before Last Christmas.
Schöne Klassiker - "ganz zufällig" hier am 26.12 ausgewählt.
Some absolute classics here that I didn't realise were from Spector. Even though I think Christmas songs are overdone in the modern age.
3+ Stars (9/15)
I didnt know these songs were that old. I dont really like newer versions but these are nice. Until at some point its too much.
Solid Christmas Album Standout songs: Santa Claus is Coming to Town Sleigh Ride I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus
It's a Christmas album
Not for me
No soy gringo así que no siento ningún apego hacia la mayoría de estas canciones, o a Phil Spector. As an outside looker, I feel like this should have been a Ronettes album since their songs are the ones that stand out the most. Sleigh Ride alone constitutes half of this album weight, and Frosty the Snowman is featured in one of my favorite scenes in Goodfellas, so those are the three stars. The rest are okay Christmas classics, but I really didn't like the renditions of Santa Claus is Coming to Town and Rudolph. I don't know why, there is nothing wrong with them, they just didn't resonate with me. Or maybe is because I'm listening to a Christmas album on the 29th of March, Idk.
Got this on Christmas 👍 To be honest I've never felt the Christmas spirit less in my life, and I've tried anything, I even watched "Home alone" this year... still nothing
I put off listening to this until the first day back at work in January. On principle really It’s actually a pretty decent Christmas album and it clearly helped define a set of classic Christmas songs. And it’s short and doesn’t include Mariah Carey. I’m obviously unlikely to listen that regularly, but I might break this out next December as a one off
I'm not a big fan of Christmas music but I have to admit this does have all the classics
So many classics on this album. That's undeniable. I like Christmas music, but only in small doses, and I like to choose which songs and when. I feel like some of the songs on this album have personally held me hostage. How do I hear them so many times for 6 weeks every year even if I'm actively trying to avoid them by being a hermit?
I’m not a fan generally of these sorts of things, but I find this bearable, despite my personal hatred of all things festive (bah humbug). This is objectively, quite possibly, the definitive gold standard Christmas album despite the nature of the man who produced it. And I would gladly listen to this on repeat, than be subjected to the Mariah Carey Christmas album ever again.
Not gonna lie, I wasn’t expecting Phil Spector the Murderer to show up on here. Music, classic and iconic. Guy, terrible and evil. The fact that it’s here on December 25th? Silly and goofy.
All albums will be 1, 3 or 5 stars, with no further commentary or explanation given. Played via Spotify, first time listen.
just christmas classics. i don’t have much to say, but i actually enjoy christmas music in moderation
soulful merry carols potser us sembla cutre... però a mi això de deixar una dedicatòria a l'última cançó em sembla bonic i rodó
Christmas
Christmas
It’s good, but I probably don’t need to listen to THAT much Christmas music on my own accord. 3/5
It's okay
5/10
I am biased because I am not a big fan of Christmas music... but the tunes are familiar and pleasant. They've just been worn out over the years. A solid three stars from me.
Solid Christmas album, loses a star for Phil Spector because I don’t like him
Wow. The music as a whole didn't really surprise me too much (besides frosty that one was just funny). It'd probably get a 2, but I'm feeling in the Christmas spirit so a 3 it is. Happy Holidays everyone! :]
Listening to this a week after Christmas because I'm playing album catch up at the moment... What a delight. This album is exactly how a Christmas album should sound. Every time the Ronettes or Darlene Love show up you know your'e gonna get something good! You gotta be a real Scrooge to not like this album.. Favorite track: Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)
I'm not big on Christmas music, but this one is good. Darlene Love is great on White Christmas and absolutely fantastic on Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).
