Reviews (page 4 of 7)
8/10 very well put together
I would rather listen to this album 100 times than another Britpop album ever again. 8/10
Was surprised by this one as the term post-hardcore waved a few red flags. But once I actually gave it a listen, it subverted my expectations. It's an enjoyable experience that flows well, especially the first three songs which feel blended together. There were times where I lost interest which mainly occurred in the second half and the 3 Songs EP, but aside from that it's an album I can see listening to again in the near future. I liked Turnover, Shut the Door and Merchandise the most out of the bunch. One of the few albums I've listened to where I prefer the bass and drums to the guitars and vocals. The grooves were really interesting and made what would have been your average punk/grunge album just a bit more special. The guitars and vocals itself were fine, just more serviceable and didn't stand out as much. Did like how there were two vocalists which provided that extra variety. I knew one of them sounded familiar once I found out they were in Minor Threat, whose album was a bit too fast and thrashy to listen repeatedly, but was a lot of fun. It made me want to listen to Out Of Step again.
I enjoyed the driving bass intros on a few of these. There's a lot about this album that brings Jane's Addiction to mind --- the vocals in Song #1 in particular and the guitars in Brendan #1. I found a lot to like.
Short, fast, kicking ass.
Short but sweet, good album.
Fugazi - Repeater Notes: - I used to own this on vinyl back when I was buying vinyl - Vocals by Ian Mackay of minor threat and embrace, and guy picchotto of rites of spring - Fav song - Shut the door - Great bass, atonal guitar, punchy drums, fantastic vocal delivery - Everything a good Fugazi song should be! Least fav - Merchandise - Guitar was less creative on this song than on other ones - Chorus was good but the whole song is a bit repetitive 3.5? 4? depends on my mood
Solid punk album
LOVED IT
Incredible album, incredible band, incredible everything
Great surprise for me ! Love the energy of the album
Really glad I had a chance to listen to this band for the first time via 1001. In the hardcore/punk world, I'm more into the post-hardcore vibe and this album fits very well into it. The vocals are violent, raw and emotive and the guitar parts are perfect to support this. I'll come back to this album again and maybe I would give it 5 stars in the futur?
I’m st least a little surprised and disappointed that I'd never heard Fugazi before now. I enjoyed the fast pace of these songs and the passion in the vocals. These guys sound both intelligent and passionate, if maybe a little cynical. I guess that’s a good recipe for becoming a punk musician. I’m definitely listening to this album more frequently, and will check out more of their albums and side projects. Very cool band.
Rock, garaje. Punk.
Quite liked it.
This is a gateway record to hardcore music. Alongside the Pixies, their chaotic and rough sound heavily influenced grunge, and thus all rock to come thereafter. The album is called "Repeater" in reference to how the songs feel like a time loop. These multi-layered complex snippets of music are copy-and-pasted over and over with slight alterations. This can bother many listeners, but to me it's rich and aesthetically pleasing, and never drilled in to be annoying. In fact, it perfectly matches the spirit of punk, doing whatever they want, and ironically making them unpredictable, as you don't know where they'll take the music. Good examples of this include the uncomfortable guitar chord in "Blueprint" that goes on for like 10 seconds in the middle. Great track order and smooth transitions. The first tracks are so well put together that it sounds like a medley. And for most other tracks, one ends abruptly straight into the action of the next. No bullshit. Loved the whole album, although loses a bit of momentum following "Greed". But the closer "Shut the Door" is my favorite track, and I enjoy the additional 3 songs (although probably better left out).
HL: Turnover, Blueprint Dammit if this gets a 4 then so should “Rage Against the Machine” (1992).
Minor Threat rules but Fugazi really kicks ass Despite Ian being a super annoying straight edge punk that basically invited that "holier than thou" attitude the album is super solid. I prefer 13 songs but these vocals still have that aggressive / raw feel while somehow sounding super polished. . . a beautiful in-between black flag and wire! I've really enjoyed rediscovering these punk albums I fell in love with in college. Fugazi is a top 3 punk band of all time for me. Standout Tracks: Blueprint
ASÍ SÍ.
I can see why Fugazi gets a lot of love from "music people." I've really loved both albums I've checked out!
A great early example of a genre I enjoy
Fugazi knew how to kick ass
These guys are just having fun and we're just along for the ride. A nice mix of punky reggae ska jams.
One of the best post-hardcore releases that still feels true to its punk orgins. Favourites: "Repeater", "Blueprint", "Shut The Door"
3.5
As I wrote in my Minor Threat review, I really respect Ian Mackaye alot. And I do like Minor Threat a good deal, but Fugazi is so much richer and more rewarding. It's astonishing how ahead of their time they were. Probably only held back from a wider influence by not being on a major label - but that's an important part of their story and their credibility. Indie in the truest sense, before it became a nearly meaningless term. Although I do like the two singer approach for its dynamics and contrast, whenever Ian MacKaye starts singing, I half wish he was the only singer in the group.
Fugazi might have the greatest rhythm section in rock ... ok maybe ranking just behind Entwhistle and Moon. But my oh my are they ever fast and tight, laying the ideal foundation for the bands stinging guitar / vocal attack. Unbelievably I had never heard this album before today. My favourite Fugazi album had been The Argument which shows off their more melodic side, but Repeater just might be my new favourite. It's just a non stop assault that still manages, thanks to the amazing bass playing, to remain clean and clear. In my previous review...of Ministry...I said that I will never warm to shout singing but somehow with Fugazi I can listen past it, maybe because musically it's so clean and tight and impressive technically. 4.5 🌟
A really high octane outing that is probably a seminal rock album at a time of style transition. It really bridges the gap in between a more 80s style of hard/glam rock to what has now become known as garage/grunge rock. Repeater's subject matter addresses a wide variety of themes such as greed, violence, sexuality, privacy, drug abuse and death. Of which the themes are at the forefront of the grunge movement. Best: Repeater Worst: Brendan 1
Good album, I like 13 songs better or to be technically the first EP. Still not as good Minor Threat though.
The oval office and the lobby probly listen to fugazi but this is my first time. The old me would have loved it. For him, 4
I had to complete a mourning process for Minor Threat before being able to appreciate Fugazi. But they really are a pretty fantastic band. Ian MacKaye has the best yelling singing voice in the business, so I still have a hard time with his vocals when they are more “tuneful”.
Enjoyed a bit
That sound, that energy. Love it
Unlikely I've ever heard before, but mega ties to the punk/ska stuff I've been interested in. Not bad!
Excellent album. Fuga,I might have the best rhythm section in American Punk, (Minutemen?). And they are on full display on this fabulous album. Yes, sometimes the vocals can become jarring...grating, but really only on a couple of songs. In general the songs are really really good. Highly recommended. 4 🌟
Onko olemassa taidepunkkia? On. Fugazi on aina ollut mulle vaikee bändi lehestyy, varsinkin kun on kuunnellut saman sällin Minor Threat bändin suoraviivaisempaa ilmaisua aikaisemmin. Oon alkanut lämpenee tälle pikku hiljaa. Kämppis maksoi joskus vuokran antamalla kaikki näiden vinyylit (paitsi tän) mulle kun sillä ei ollu rahaa 😂 4/5
Uuh Fugazi toimii aina.
This album seems so straightforward when you start listening to it, and then it keeps surprising you as it goes. It sounds like a normal punk album, right down to the starkly plain lyrics. Underneath that lies so much more. The songs are well-crafted and leave a lot of room for the instrumentals to shine. Intense, but subtle. This album is a powerhouse of a debut 4/5
Really good punk!
It depends if you prefer garage rock form the 90s or alt music with a clearer tune structure.nof it's the former, Fugazi ar one of the best.
Fuck, what a banger. Really enjoyed the “jammy” parts
Post punk brilliance.
Fugazi is basically a lesson in how to be an older punk. You can't be angry in the same way a kid can, but you can still show fire and not sell out. You can show that growth can be good. I always preferred Minor Threat's immediacy, but now I'm a bit older, I can actually enjoy this a lot more. Damn, the track Repeater sounds a little bit Paul Simon. It's really good. Half the speed of MT, but Ian MacKaye is still obviously there, still expressing. It's really good, it zips, it's fiercely anti capitalist, it is a good, but not quite five star album.
Post-hardcore classic. Probably my favorite Fugazi album. 8-9/10 1. Reprovisional 2. Two Beats Off 3. Repeater
I love old school punk.
Fugazi is one of those 'just before my time' bands. I was too busy discovering Dinosaur Jr and Pixies in the early nineties to go back in time even a few years. I knew Fugazi were important and I can certainly see their influence on bands that I was into (especially something like At The Drive-In, much later) but I prefer 'my version' of this sound. Listening to it now I think I am enjoying the historical references more than the music. It certainly has it's moments but it's a bit too jazzy for me and I am not too keen on those muffled, indierock voices. 7/10
I did enjoy much of it. Some I thought was dated. Would love to give a 3.7, but I will be generous and round up to a 4.
Fugazi holds great importance for their contributions to the post-hardcore genre. They are my favorite band's favorite band. Underneath the screaming vocals and loud guitar, these guys are expert songwriters. It is computationally complex without becoming overbearing or boring. It is simply a better vehicle to carry hardcore punk to new heights. Obviously they are not the first post-hardcore band, with the likes of Minutemen and Husker Du doing great things with the genre in the 80's, but 90's post-hardcore was ran by Fugazi, alongside Unwound, The Jesus Lizard, and a particularly notable album from Slint. I think this is the stuff of champions.
1 2 3 Repeater!!!
Grunge-rock-punk. Me ha gustado.
crunchy grooves, expressive guitar riffs, and some genuinely solid lyrics. for any fans of The Knife out there: i noticed in the song Blueprint he says "what a difference a little difference would make." which is a lyric in Raging Lung off shaking the habitual... i have to imagine karin got it from this album; pretty cool source to pull from.
Prefiero la música a las voces, pero aún así, pues me ha sorprendido.
This album rocks, and has a blast doing it. The drums and bass are tight and mixed fantastically, and everything is really riff-y. Lots of statement songs, the band definitely had something to say and said it. The right kind of punk rock.
Is nice
Let me preface my ignorance. Grew up in NorCal listening to Clear Channel Radio Stations. That being said, the intro to Turnover had wondering what I had been given. When the guitar kicked in I was leaning in a little. When Ian comes in, my reaction is"Oh Punk Rock". Well I don't know shineOla. By the Time Brendan 1 one comes on I realize that these guys know how to play and write music. This album gets better the longer you listen to it. Cool riff driven music. Cool time changes. Ian's voice at time reminda me if Bon Scott. Love the funk that gets sprinkled in to the mix.
I don't really love any of the songs on this one, but I love the energy of all of them. I could really listen to this all the time.
It's pretty good actually, good equality in the album. You can find these hardcore songs pretty punks, but other ones are more like post-rock and post-punk which I really love, to find it in this album. Nice
Noisy! Enjoyed it.
This album fucking rips. Very into it.
I’m here for this one.
Hard and fast punk and grunge, listen to it loud
I don't know much hardcore but I like Fugazi, this is my favourite of theirs
Classic white people doing the "contemplative rage" approach. One of my favorite Fugazi records. Best song in the Transworld - Interface video. Chad Fernandez part.
Wugazi without the Wu? Who could have imagined!?
Merchandise 👍
I love Fugazi. Only wish I’d seen them live.
Full emotion. Great riffs. Solid.
Possibly peak Fugazi, a tremendously lean and disciplined sound.
It's not something I would listen to often, but when the moment is right this album kicks ass. My favorite song was Merchandise
I was expecting something much harder based on the wiki. Better than expected, like the punk vibes.
That was really good. If punk rock is the kid that shows up late every day, possibly drunk or high, and proceeds to ask the teacher smart-ass questions from the back row of the classroom, then Fugazi is what would happen if that kid went on to become valedictorian. There are a lot of musical ideas packed together here, and the songs feel longer than they actually are (which I mean in the best possible way). I'm also a big fan of the interplay between instruments and the loud-soft dynamics; it reminds me of Slint at times. The 3 Songs EP (sometimes included with Repeater) is also worthwhile. Best song: Shut The Door is absolutely killer, but there are so many others to choose from as well.
A pleasant surprise on the music here, I particularly enjoyed the guitar riff in Blueprint, but I didn't get much out of the lyrics throughout.
It was okay.
6/10
I love the idea of Fugazi more than the music of Fugazi. I wish I liked them more.
it's cool stuff. fugazi has always been a band that i knew of and generally knew what they were, but never listened to. some of the songs are great, and some are ok. the album feels more like a collection of songs than an album based on the flow, but i suppose that is the typical approach with a band like this. pretty raw production.
Nope!
This is one for the punk / hardcore fans, and if ur into that, this is ur jam. Not a half bad album personally
Bit hit and miss for me on this one, appreciate the vibe
Some very solid pubk attitude to this one. Never got into Fugazi in a big way but I respect the fuck out of them.
I didn't really get this album as a whole, but there were moments I enjoyed 3/5
Not bad for 90s rock. I enjoyed the tone of the guitar, it had energy and felt like you could rock your head a long to it. Felt punky and not too grungy. No real song stood out but I liked the general vibe of it. 3 stars which for a rock album in the 90s is good coming from me.
Post-hardcore.
3/5
5.5/10
In line with what i love about Am-Rep style bands, but this somehow misses the mark for me overall. Not bad, just generic and unmemorable.
Great
I don’t like punk all that much, mut it’s okay I guess
fena değildi bazı şarkıları skipledim
Direi un bel 3, abbastanza ignorante!
This was good and I can see how it is influential and ahead of its time but I just can’t get into the vocal style. Will try some more Fugazi at some point since I am intrigued by this. It might click deeper on another listen but after two runs through that is enough for now.
Should probably give this a relisten later down the line, but this just didn't do very much for me on the first listen. It was enjoyable enough though
Trop rock mais pas mal
I want to give it less stars but Ian MacKaye has a pretty good voice and one or two guitar riffs are better than I remembered. I really only like the song waiting room which is not on this album. It makes me think of skateboarders and the fun we had in high school in the 90’s.
Bit too edgelord for me
On paper this is exactly my jam but sadly the sound just wasn't doing it for me 😔
621/1001 2026.05.25 🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑
It's fine. Punk with a little more attention to the playing. It's fine.
Lyssna igen
Turnover
So good, these guys definitely inspired Nick oliveri.
An interesting and enjoyable album.
More punk than expected
2.75 It’s not for me but I can recognise that it’s compelling and good at what it does
Couple of bangers, not as good as red medicine but still one can still get jiggy
I’ve heard of the band a lot. Not really my style, but I appreciate the influence
Muito bom!
A solid album maybe songs are too similar hit they are all good so it was ok for me bit could understand if others wont like it
Początek tej płyty był tak ciężki, że chciałam się poddać. Później zaczyna już być czyściej i bardziej spójnie, ale nadal kipi ona tym rodzajem chaosu, który uważam za nieprzyjemny. 5/10
Solid
The music and lyrics were good but, the vocals were irritating.
Rv
Average for my taste
All respect to Fugazi, absolute real ones. Anti-capitalist rhythm and noise, deprecated melodies. Do I love this album? I like it. It's basically perfect at what it's doing, but tbh I don't totally love what it's doing.
The offspring vibes in some songs, not a difficult listening, but not really connected
Not bad but probably won’t put on again.
So this is what got Kurt to pick up a guitar. Sure, I like Nirvana. No, wait, I like exactly four songs by Nirvana. I *think* I could find four Fugazi songs I like, but I don't need to hear this again. Solid 3, but my 1001 albums should be all 5s ... at least in theory.
I liked the overall grungy tone of it, but nothing really stood out to me. I can't really think of an exact part that I particularly found outstanding
Loved the vibe, but didn’t find myself drawn to particular songs. Will probably have to listen some more to get into this one.
Straight up Electric Angry Energy Punk to its Core
Based on listening to this album I felt like Fugazi is cooler than they are good. Kinda like the 90s Turnstile lol
First-time listen for me, and I liked it! The band sound real tight throughout. Favourite track: Shut the Door
3.2
This was a totally fine rock album, nothing really stood out to me in particular but it wasn't grating or offensive.
That was pretty cool. My favourite was Shut the Door. I'm sure that was very influential.
Solid
First time listener - I thought it was pretty interesting and I think I'd come back to listen again. It feels like a missing piece of a puzzle.
Instrumentally good but vocals not so. 3/5 3/4/26
Do you think it would make Fugazi angrier than they already seem to be if they found out that I listened to this album while high. Do you think they'd be even angrier if they found out I liked it? About as clever and direct as this sort of thing gets!
I don't like Post-Hardcore at all, but I kind of enjoy Fugazi. They seem to do it with more finesse, or they simply came first and everyone else just copies them and ends up as a lesser version. Either way, this is leagues ahead all the 2000s Cringe Rock that it inspired and I simply can't stand. Key tracks: Merchandise
An interesting introduction. Although I musically would give them the four stars, the vocals in parts ruin it for me. favourite: "Brendan #1", "Two Beats Off", "Shut The Door" 2,5
Enjoyable listen and exciting to hear the threads that connect it backward and forward through the genre
You know, I didn't like this a lot, but I found it interesting. As a guitarist there is a lot to like here (the riff from Styrofoam is the highlight). It's abrasive and sloppy, and the songs where the vocalist screams a melody (rather than just shouting tunelessly) are enjoyable.
wasnt too bad, wouldnt care to listen again. I was promised anger...it was tame
This was alright. I liked the short, quickfire tracks.
I enjoy this album more than I thought I would at the beginning. A lot of energy. I could imagine listening to this in a smoky underground club.
Solid alt rock album
This was great
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ - “We owe you nothing, you have no control”…Three stars. Tom.
I liked this more than I expected to.
7/10 Highlights: Turnover Merchandise Blueprint
I was expecting to enjoy this, but it felt like a big juicy nothingburger
weirdo music alert
I like their politics but musically, Repeater was a bit of a do nothing album for me.
I can see why people might like this, but not one id be coming back to 3*
As far as Albums go, that was pretty good
This one was good and high energy for my morning jog, but I found it difficult to take any of it in/ remember it. A day later, I can’t even really conjure up what I heard. On the same run, I switched to Gang of Four, because I’d heard they were similar bands. I treated it like a double feature. This morning, I can even still quote lines from that Gang of Four album. I think that’s because the Fugazi just rolled over me, whereas Gang of Four had more (yowch) style. Perhaps this is called Repeater for a reason, and I’d need to hear it again to allow it to sink in- but ain’t anybody got time for that.
Another new to me band and album. They are a post-punk band and this album came out leading into the grunge era, which I can definitely hear in some of the music, so I can see how the album probably influenced some of those early grunge bands. The album was a bit hit or miss for me. I liked it, but don't think I would seek it out to listen to it again.
ok but just sounds dusty
Pretty much any band from the 90s onward that's worth your time will be able to tell you how great Fugazi is. I've read about how it's the one band that unified the hardcore punks and the indie rockers in the DC music scene at the time. They're unquestionably foundational to pretty much everything I like listening to. And yet, I don't care for Repeater. I don't have anything against them, really. It's all perfectly fine, and it's got a few memorable moments (mostly from Guy Picciotto). I guess I just don't really care for Ian Mackaye, I didn't like Minor Threat much either, after all. Maybe I was just born too late to really get what's the big deal about Repeater? After all, I like Red Medicine well enough, and I really do enjoy The Argument.
Certainly angry and expressive.
Pretty nice. High 3/5.
I think I wanted to like this more than o actually did. When I saw the suggested playlists underneath on Spotify it was some punk ones, but this leaned more towards generic 90s alternative. It was alright, but I probably won’t listen again
It was ok album - not something I’ll likely come back to listen too again but enjoyed it as a change of pace.
2.5
Pretty cool post-hardcore. Didn’t go as heavy as I thought it would and I don’t know if that’s good or bad.
Just ok
Intense and rhythmically incredible. Love Ian Mackaye.
Never really appreicated Fugazi, always assumed their were one of those bands that I just wouldn't like, but this was a lot more polished that I was expecting.
Angry sounding, but nothing really stood out. I also was raging at physics so that probably influenced it
kinda punk kinda fun
Just yelling and the songs sound the same
Rock / punk sound, similar to many others of this genre
Standout Songs: Brendan #1 Merchandise Two Beats Off Reprovisional
Good band. Particularly like their ethos. Music is well built. But I just don't connect with most of it.
Didn’t have a chance to listen - will have to try another day.
I can always get down with a little Fugazi. Great hard rock / punk album. Highlights: "Blueprint" and "Reprovisional"
3.5
Ok
Dug this post-hardcore punk project. Vocals aren't my favorite but I did enjoy the riffs and whatnot. 3/5.
3 - I only know Fugazi from their Demo album 'Instrument Soundtrack' so to hear them in full form was a big switch up. A bit more hard than what I'd normally listen to but a good listen regardless. Fav Songs: Merchandise, Greed, Blueprint
This is not my thing but I appreciate their contribution to emo later. On this album I really appreciated the pulsing bass line but idk I'm just not really a punk fan even tho again I appreciate its roots and history and stuff. It just doesn't do it for me. I appreciate this album and would listen if someone else put it on but i wouldn't pull it from the crate myself
Ok, this is pretty decent, perhaps 3 stars even though I am not a fan of this post-hardcore stuff, but it's decent stuff nevertheless
Sometimes, nothing beats a bit of post-hardcore to smack you in the face. Not every day. But sometimes.
Economical punksters.
Not the mood I was on, but can see how a lot of music I like came from this
Good, but not their best
This seems like a step backward from 13 songs. Definitely less interesting.
A couple good songs. A couple that I wish I hadn't heard. Overall, pretty mid tbh.
This was a good Blueprint, but was about Two Beats Off from being great.
Sympa mais pas non plus à se rouler par terre
I always loved the classic Fugazi tracks, but had never listened to Repeater until now. Holy - is this thing ever good. The musicianship is great (not to mention the reggae-influenced backbeat), both vocalists are impassioned as anyone, and the lyrics are deep and thoughtful.
At times this album will get into a groove I really like but it never stays there very long. These guys are clearly capable of more complex and interesting rhythms but seem to prefer a more … let’s say expressive … somewhat chaotic style. I can see why this band has such incredible appeal to so many people but it doesn’t immediately grab me. I certainly don’t dislike it though. I see a potential to like it. I would listen again. I didn’t really get any of the lyrics on this listen at all and my general impression of them is that it may make my opinion more favorable when I do. Placeholder 6/10 ⭐️
Reminds me of a bar house band - It's not bad while you're having drinks with your friends, but you forgot about them as soon as you leave.
Nice album. Every once in a while, you'd read a lyric and be like "huh". It kept things interesting. It wasn't anything outstanding, though.
Loud and chaotic with some mixin’s of delight. Shut the door I did like.
I wasn't sure I liked Fugazi, but it turns out I do.
Nice album men lite för hårt för mig. Gillade dock att det som var pauser i vissa låtar, lät nice. Gick inte att hitta utan +3 songs, men idk om det gjorde så stor skillnad
Punkity punk.
If they had a better singer/a singer I enjoyed more, I'd rate this a 4* album, I reckon. I like a lot of the music and some of the lyrics are good, but I can't seem to get past the vocals.
This is classic post-punk- sharp guitars, excellent bass lines. Guttural, brute-sounding vocals with political lyrics. It’s cool. THREE STARS
Ok
Post-hardcore has never been a genre I connect with much. However, you can't hate on this one. It's good music and reading the reviews made me respect his $5 shows. Alas, I can respect a lot of these albums for their influence and still not run to put them on my shelf.
Much better than I expected as a post-hardcore album. Singer sucked which was no surprise. Bass absolutely rules on this album. Very solid 3 here.
Really solid album actually, thought it was going to be rough in the beginning. The bass solos throughout the album ruled. Lyrics were a bit weird and not my favorite singer.
Honestly solid album, just sonically not for me. Powerful guitar and vocals.
Greed is a good track - I respect this album for it's place in music history... but I won't be rushing back to listen.. But i also won't skip when it shuffles?
The songs where Ian McKay sings are good and when the other guy sings I just get secondhand embarrassment.
One of the things I’ve found doing this project is that I am no fan of the noisier albums in the main So the fact that this was a fairly decent listen is entirely to its credit
Love Fugazi, some good tracks on here. Can definitely see how it influenced skate music.
En terme d’Indie Rock, c’est pas le pire, il y a même une couple de bassline assez chanmé qui sauve quelques tounes
3 de 5
I think this is ok, but npthing more than that
Huh. Although this was actually pretty good, so much of me wanted a band called "Fugazi" to be better. It's such a good name, why would you not use it to make anything less than amazing music? This is not a rational response, but I'm accepting my own irrationality today.
Not sure what this is trying to be Best Song: Blueprint Rating: 5/10 Stars: 3
A surprise one for me. Never heard of them, glad I have now. Post punk rock is spot on. Tight band, some great times.....just too many. I think this album would grow on me over time.
Oh, Lord. Generic punk. It doesn't have the energy or the creativity of other punk albums, and there isn't a standout song of the bunch. There's a really good reason I had never heard of them or this album before.
Very angry sounding I can understand why it's hardcore
Not bad. I like the dirty, fuzzy guitars and it's pretty rocking at times. I'm just struggling to engage with it much beyond that. I can't really make out anything he's saying.

Ok didn't really have an impact on me
Still not impressed... This is a band I was keen to listen through their albums a little while ago, I got up to Steady Diet Of Nothing and just couldn't push on. Which is a bit odd as I really liked 13 Songs, but it seems they're other albums just don't do it for me. Maybe it's Guy's vocals that I don't like, or maybe it's something else. Oh well. Highlight Song/s: Merchandise
Thia album has a very crazy sound. I can feel the innovation, but the genre is not my cup of tea.
Followed Minor Threat with this, enjoyed it, incredibly punchy
Okay
Not bad, but not really my taste.
This is cool, thought it would be harder
Pretty good
Seriously hard rock with some change of pace and nuance - not bad, never annoying.
A nice album for thrashing and bashing. I enjoyed a few tracks and thought that musically this album represented its genre very well.
another debut album. haven't heard of these guys before. this album is all about destruction. it's consistently loud and extreme, with song topics and lyrics fitting towards the urgent energy presented. try not to turn it up too loud! unless you like that sort of thing... like many other punk and hardcore albums, this album is full of socio-political references. for instance, the track "repeater" is about the infinite cycle of violence that happens again and again and again. it's got a great concept, but the main problem is despite the impactful messages... the tracks blend. they blend super easily. while engaging, it didn't leave too much of an impact on me.
Felt like I was skating in Tony Hawk Underground, but nothing that was too memorable
Post-hardcore? Alleen daarna? Wat een drama joh, Two Beats Off is een zeikerig traag nummer. Waar is de energie van eerder gebleven? Waar is mn dubbele kick? We gaan toch niet opeens halve ballads doen he? FAVO: Merchandise, Blueprint, Joe 1
3.5
It is okay but a lot of other bands do the heavy music a lot better. A B level band that earns a 3.
Highlights: Brendan #1, Merchandise. In a nutshell: post-hardcore, but make it a little grunge-y. Overall: 6/10
It was ok, nothing special 3 ⭐️
Interesting
I've had lots of people tell me, because I like heavy music, I should listen to Fugazi. I never did until now and I can see why. From the crunchy guitars to the shouted vocals there were things on this album I liked. However, nothing really wowed me. I'd probably give this album a 3.5/5 but for the sake of this experience I'm rounding down to a 3/5. I'm sure I will hear more Fugazi and maybe like one of those other albums more.
Fugazi ethos = 5 stars always
Punky
It's alright. I'm just tired of all the punk on this list.
Solid 3 without mind-blowing experience. Good stuff.
What!? I thought this was Marillion's Fugazi!
Some of the songs are good, some are meh, some are bad; so overall, it's meh.
n estava esperando isso ser punk
Instrumentals are good, but the vocals are off putting and tiring.
#722. Reading a few other reviews, it seems that I'm the odd man out in thinking this isn't super impressive. I mean, I don't hate it by any means, but I really don't see why this would be held in such high esteem. 3/5: acceptable
Definitely better than I was expecting.
Good listen.
I think this is another one of those cases where the bands I really like happen to like this band a bunch, but I dont. 3/5
I don't love the songs, but this definitely feels like a workshop in cool-sounding bass tone
I get the mass appeal this band has and it's legacy, these songs feel raw, and get their point across in a great way, it's a staple of punk and it's themes.
This album definitely had that cool grungy sound that defined the early 90s, even though Fugazi came out of the East Coast scene instead of the Pacific Northwest. The raw energy and attitude are there, and you can hear how they helped shape the underground sound that bands later ran with. The problem for me is that no one song really stuck out. It all blended together in a way that made it hard to find a track I wanted to go back and revisit. The vibe is consistent, but it lacks those standout moments that make you hit repeat. Overall, Repeater is solid in style and influence, but it felt more like an important piece of the puzzle than an album I would want to spin again. Respect for the grit, but not much staying power for me.
Pretty unique album. If you hadn’t given me the year you could’ve convinced me it was made anywhere between 1980 and 2010. Every time I thought I knew where the album or even each song was going they would subtly subvert my expectations by throwing in a weird chord in what sounded like a standard progression or changing up the timing or something. I liked it, would give it another listen or two. 3.5
Beginnings of something heavy, but the album itself didn't rock my world
Maybe you wouldn’t be so upset if you’d just take a fucking aspirin.

Fugazi is a cool band, but this is not a full album of no misses. It feels like a first album and there's nothing wrong with that. It's wildly influential in the underground scenes but that doesn't make it a 5/5.
Looking back having not been aware of Fugazi at the time, it’s clear to see the influence they had. It would have been a different story had they succumbed to a major label, but then things would have been different for everyone else too. Around the time of Repeater I was entrenched in death metal… This album holds up. The band have a natural tightness. Comfortable balance of aggression and innovation. Makes me curious to how it would have been at the time of its release watching everything unfold. Worthy of your time.
Post hardcore/alternative rock . Raw sound. Moody bass lines
okay overall, not my vibe
Enjoyed but not to shout about. I do like some post-hardcore (at the drive-in being my favourite) but this was very average for me.
Solid background noise for landing my kickflips
When I was a young 'un, Fugazi were cited as a cautionary tale. The stuff you wheeled out when you wanted to scare the horses. Turns out they're just pussycats. Ok, not quite, but the distance between them and, say, Hüsker Du or Sonic Youth (to name two alt contemporaries who got far more airplay and column inches) is rather small, I'd argue.
Fugazi is one of the bands that always gets cited as a major influence on Nirvana, but I'll confess that I haven't dabbled as much as I probably should have (excuse me while I, once again, imagine what my life would look like if music streaming existed when I was in highschool). After listening to Pixies, another band often cited on that list, I was a little nervous about this album. Fortunately, this went better. Your mileage may vary based on your feelings about punk rock, but for me: if Pixies were "fine", I give Fugazi a "pretty good". 3.49/5
Good.
Enjoyed that more than I thought I would.
RIBENA 🗣🗣🗣
Big fan of the mid-paced tracks but not as fond and of the punkier songs.
Is this my rating?
Not really my bag
"Turnover" and "Blueprint" were the real standouts for me. I was surprised how listenable this album was for me. Punk is hit-or-miss with me. I like that they actually wrote songs rather just the same two chords over and over. I preferred the tracks where there was actual singing rather than the "typical" yelling.
Pretty cool sounds! 3/5
A lot of this passed me by, not in a boring sense but in a sense that all songs faded into one guitar feedback-laden soundscape, with a high point in the title track and a fantastic bookender in Shut the Door. This isn’t meant to be a big artistic statement, though, more of a crazed shouting session - some shouting achieved via vocals, other shouting subbed in with guitars that have the same effect, the sort of sound that would make you want to hang upside-down off of a basketball hoop. Another album that would benefit from another listen, no doubt. I guess that’s the same with most albums that are just ‘good’ on first listen, then can become a personal favourite. For specifics, though, Repeater isn’t as high-energy as it makes out to be from the outset. It’s loud, sure, but not necessarily constantly crazed as some of its contemporaries are. Especially in the finale of Shut the Door, it even slacks off in some sections, making the subsequent loud sections an even better payoff than earlier in the album when they’re in constant supply. I do think I’ll be listening to this again, to at the very least have a listen to the lyrics more closely.
• 3/5 • Some great riffs and tight rhythm and guitar work, but the vocals drag it down for me
I liked it. Got a little repetitive, but the energy is great. Definitely a different style of hardcore. 3.5/5 Probably will listen again
Very average gritty music.
not sure i am the biggest punk rock fan. But it was a fun listen and I may listen to it again later.
You know, I used to be an absolute sucker for this type of standard 90s indie rock. And in a way I still am, I gues it's just that as I discover more music, my standards get higher. And so while this is nowhere near as amazing as Radiohead or anything like that, it's still a hell of a lot better than all the other generic shit that I can't be bothered to remember the name of.
I know this artist/album? is kind of a cult classic, I'm not sure if I really get it but it's a cool enough rock album, not amazing, just fun Sort of a Garage Pixies or somethiiiing?
Not too bad. Some songs are a little slow.
Some nice stuff, nothing too great. 3 stars
No strong feelings, would probably listen again though.
I’ve always appreciated Fugazi on an intellectual level while never really being emotionally affected by their music. On this listen my reaction is much the same. Solid stuff but doesn’t grab me.
Cool record, not a fan of when it gets noisy and I was a little worried because of the thin buzzsaw guitar tone right off the bat in Turnover but it all worked out (got used to it?)
Punk is not usually a genre I seek out or enjoy listening to, but this album is an exception. I didn't find the vocals to be as "punky" as they usually are, which was a big plus. But the thing that made this so enjoyable for me was the interesting composition and hard-to-miss drums on every song. The lyrics/vocals weren't the forefront, but it all works well together instead.
would have given this 3.5 if it was possible!! no particular song stood out to me but i really like this band's sounds
starts off annoying but gets a lot better
Super fun album but loses steam multiple times throughout the album.
I respect these guys so much for their ethos, but this album doesn’t do it for me. Much prefer 13 Songs and In on the Kill Taker.
Nearly 4 - great treat of a find. Rocks
Not my favorite style of vocals, but I dig this sound.
Solid post-hardcore album from front to back.
Didn’t love it, didn’t hate it. It did feel all a little bit like noise by the end. I probably would have liked it more if I’d heard it in the nineties when this was more my thing.
Not bad, not spectacular.
Repeater was another album that I bought after seeing it listed in the initial 1001 albums book. It sounded like it was right up my alley, so I scooped up a copy, and gave it a listen. I’d love to tell you that I fell in love with Fugazi on that day, but that’s not the case. I don’t remember hating Repeater, but I’ve never listened to it since then, even though I’ve been meaning to give it another shot. I’m happy that Repeater repeat day is finally upon me, and I’m hoping that I’ll discover a new appreciation for it, now that I’m considerably older, but only slightly wiser. As much as I respect Fugazi for their dedication to their art and their cause, Repeater just isn’t really my jam. I love the lyrics (easily the most hardcore part of their post-hardcore label), but musically, I just like things a bit more melodic. And if traditional melodic structures aren’t there, then I want something weird and wild, like Einstürzende Neubauten. However, neither of those were really present on this album. I’ll do think the rhythms on this album were excellent, almost to the point where the band sounds so cohesive, as if they’re one singular organism, which is an impressive feat. For a post hardcore album, I don’t think Fugazi’s sound is inaccessible, but most people will probably find it a touch boring. Naming this album Repeater, as a contrast to Revolver and revolutions is incredibly brilliant, and I enjoyed how a lot of the songwriting fell in line with that theme. One thing that did surprise me about this album is that enjoyed Guy Picciotto’s vocals much more than Ian MacKaye’s. I’ve always had the impression that MacKaye was the heart and soul of Fugazi, so I was shocked that his vocals weren’t my favorite. I can’t say that I had a favorite song on this album, but there also wasn’t anything that I had a strong dislike for either. Repeater is an interesting album, and a blistering social critique, but it’s not something I’m incredibly fond of listening to.
I'm sure this album is important in the evolution of rock music, but I found it to be a bit of a slog and not as good as I was hoping.
This rocks. Very punk and fast-paced. The music is quick and flows together well paired with the scratchy vocals. Solid record from a band that I know is coveted, but I'd never really listened to before.
For as raw as it is, the album is extremely polished, well put together and thought out. Knowing nothing about Fugazi, I thought the album was alright, reading more, I thought they are awesome. Wish I knew about em in era.
Good old punk, but nothing stand-out
I had never heard of these guys but will definitely be listening more. Didn’t like all the songs but there were some good ones.
will listen to again
This is one of those bands I grew up knowing existed but never gave them the time day. I suppose I never really thought this would be my kind of music but the fact is, this is quite good. I can see how these guys have been a big influence on the post hardcore genre itself. This would have been amazing live in it's day too. Some cool melodies and even cooler riffs here. Kinda want a skateboard now.
It's pretty close to being a great record, but I think upon another listen I would get a better idea if I enjoyed it or if I thought it was worth repeat listens. 3.5/5
Scuzzy.
I know Fugazi is supposed to be important to the history of punk somehow but after listening to this one three times I have got absolutely nothing for you. It's . . . fine but completely unmemorable.
