Reviews (page 6 of 7)

Pretty, but pretty boring.

Not something I’d jam to alone but could see this being in the background of a fancy dinner party

Don’t ever need to hear that again. Feeling a bit angry, but not 1 star angry.

World Beat before it was cool. This is Ok. Kind of fun with many unusual instruments and choices. And not speaking the language, I can't understand the lyrics, and it's important for me to know and enjoy what they're signing about. I wouldn't have this in any rotation. It's ok. Just not for me.

Interesting album, although had to listen to a compilation as album wasn’t on Apple Music which is disappointing

One thing I've learned about doing this project: Bossa Nova isn't my scene. Maybe if I spoke Brazilian Portuguese, I might like this more but the language barrier didn't help.

60's psychadelic music sucks in English; it's not any better in Spanish. Dos estrellas.

Inte så mycket att säga, italienskt, pop, ointressant. Svag 2a

I mean I really fucking hate this cover. This man looks like he murdered his whole family and then buried them under the stage whilst performing this album.

Quite fun, not really a genre i vibe with but i appreciate it nonetheless

Language barrier

It was okay. I appreciate it what it is but I didn’t not understand the lyrics

Not my jam

I understand that this album was extremely influential on Brazilian music and progressive for its time, but it felt pretty outdated when I was listening to it I’ll give it a slight pass though since it’s 57 years old Definitely some fun songs on here, Clara and Eles being my personal favorites, but others fall a bit flat I feel like this is one of those albums that other people probably hold in higher regards than I do so while I had a decent time listening to it, I can’t give it more than two stars Favorites: None

It felt like I needed GP to hold my hand and guide me through this one. A Little too flowery for my liking.

I liked some of the instrumental work on this one but overall wasn’t very keen

Boring music, boring voice

Can't say I enjoyed it too much. The vocals are just okay and the production is super jumbled and hazey, to the point were it's hard to decipher individual instruments. 4/10

That cover goes crazy hard

brazilian, like the idea of naming the first debiut album with your name 2 W przedostatniej piosence sie modli

It's nice to step outside of the UK/USA for a change, but surely, there must be better options than this??? Sadly, this album doesn't inspire me to explore that hypothesis. To be clear, I didn't HATE this, but it certainly didn't interest me in any way. That groovy organ on the last track was, I'm afraid, too little too late.

nit so wirklich auf spotify

You know, I can understand the appeal of this album. It’s a great mix of Bossa Nova, Industani classical, r&b and a few others, but it comes off uninspired and confused. A few of the melodies are cannibalized from other songs of the era, but they’re good melodies regardless. I’ve not listened to any Brazilian music so I don’t have a baseline for how to rate this, but do to the meandering nature of the album, and my general ignorance of the genre, I can’t rate it very high

Meh. Could've done without this one.

My first bossanova album. It was ok, but not totally my style.

Best thing was the album art. Music was too bubblegum for me.

I sort of like the last song but the rest did not impress me. 2 stars or D.

I enjoy Tropicalia quite a lot. So I appreciate the historical position of this album. But honestly, recording Brazillian music in the style of Brian Wilson and the Beatles was pretty inevitable. If Caetano hadn’t, someone else would’ve shortly. And what made the world go mad for Psychadelic studio trickery was how GREAT the songs of Wilson/Lennon/McCartney were. The songs here are not great. I only hear two that I would rate as mildly good. And an album without quality songs is like a house without a foundation. You can dress it up in silk and chintz but it won’t hold up for long.

This album didn’t really resonate with me. I neither loved it nor hated it. It mostly just drifted along without making much of an impact. On a positive note, the album art features a wild photo!

Meh, perhaps if I was Brazilian or understood Portuguese this would have more impact.

Didn't really enjoy the music, wasn't for me

Debut solo album Bossa Nova / Latin / Psychedelia / Rock / Pop. This is something I'd never usually pick out for myself. That's why this journey is so cool. New sounds. This isn't my thing, however I appreciate the musicianship and art. Cool album cover art.

There were some cool and funky moments, but for whatever reason I still found it quite hard to get that much into this one. Probably just my lack of experience with Brazilian music, which just makes it a sound I am a lot less used to. But I'm definitely open to this one growing on me in the future.

4/10 - nothing special it was a decent album but didn’t stand out at all

Didn't like this as much as I thought I would from the cover and description. Just not for me I guess.

Something about the Portuguese language really distracted me from the music and made me feel annoyed with the album. I was glad when it was over.

I knew this day would come. I guess that's what listening to 1001 albums is about. Some stuff will stick, some stuff won't. I didn't particularly think this was bad, just not my bag. I actually have heard the first track somewhere before. I'm sure if your Brazilian this is a classic album. At least give it a listen once.

Had it's moments but not as punchy as I hoped. I'm increasingly disappointed by psychedelic rock

Not too exciting.

Didn’t get much from this

2 not for me.

slightly odd Brazilian pop

Definitely an interesting one. No doubt the song compositions are great. Just not a style that will warrant a second listen.

Not my bag baby

terrifying album cover - music isn't much better

Hard to rate Hard to dislike Hard to love

This album is ....different..... It's part of a musical movement in the 60's called Tropicalia. This genre combines literally any musical genre together and trys to make them play nice together, but they usually don't. It's like Brazilian psychadelica. It's weird. Like, this album has traces of psychadelica, pop, rock, traditional Indian music, Bossa Nova....it's just a melting pot of any style of music or musical instrument imaginable. Not my favourite. Favorite songs: So Loco Por Ti America, "Alegria, Alegria", Eles Least favorite songs: Clarice, Anunciacao, Clara 2/5

I always get scared when there’s psychedelia described in the album. Having said that, I was pleasantly surprised. Would I listen to it again? No. But the musical arrangement flowed nicely and I appreciated the rhythm. I would give this 2.5 if I could.

Not what I was expecting from the cover. The music is really good, but the singing is just so terrible. Probably on purpose like a tom waits sort of way, but I hate tom waits too.

Lyder som meget andet... Men spansk....

I will never understand singers who sound bored while they sing

2.5 Fine but unexciting

It was ok, most tracks were just decent background music. Clarice was good but drags on after a while. Superbacana was pretty fun. Soy Loco Por Ti America was nice. Best song: Superbacana

I have no context to say is this was good or bad. The guitar work was good but I didn’t find it exceptional, and lyrically it all sounded like Portuguese to me, though the nod to MJ and the Beatles seemed misplaced and awkward. Respect to his efforts but I probably will not be looking for this one and defer my opinion to others who know better.

It’s okay. I neither liked nor disliked it.

According to his face on the album cover he is very angry at everything. Unfortunately I don't understand a word from what he's singing, but it doesn't sound angry. Still very boring though

If I'd been a few (25) years older I've dropped some acid, put this on my turntable and had a groovy time in my pad with other hip brighr and happening things. Cosmic.

I normally really like World music, for the sincerity and novelty of it - "Shaka Zulu" by Ladysmith Black Mambazo and "Buena Vista Social Club" being great examples. Ceatano Veloso did not have that appeal, for those reasons. He's doing something that sounds a little "put on," like a Carnaval mask (huh? HUH?).I craved some Brazillian Jazz and got an attempt at psychedelic-pop (maybe?). And not a really well executed version of that. Nothing to say about the lyrics or themes because I don't understand Portugese (I assume it's Portugese).

Tropicália

Pretty boring and unremarkable unfortunately.

Ok, this was way off my radar and was released before I was born. That and the fact that I don't enjoy 60's Latin music much made this a tough listen. 19M people listened to the opener "Tropicalia" and "Alegria, Alegria", that's impressive and the dude has had a long career from the looks of it. I got zero enjoyment out of it though and believe I could have happily gone my entire life without hearing this album. It may be a huge album in Latin America and hold a special place for people who enjoy this kind of music but it was lost on me. I didn't hate it, just don't see the relevance or impact since it wasn't a hit in the US. 2 stars?

It’s an interesting album, obviously very South American but certainly very influenced by the North. Unfortunately I don’t understand a single world of it 5.5/10

Not my thing really

Not for me, but a new sound that I enjoyed.

Enjoyable rhythms and vibes throughout.

I was surprised that I knew "Soy Loco Por Ti America". Still not my kind of music

Couldn't connect to this.

cupacupacupacabana

Fairly the same throughout it felt like, though that's probably due to my inability to speak Portuguese

I found it all kind of dull, to be honest. Except for Soy Loco Por Ti America, liked that song a lot.

I liked it for what it was. I didn't understand any of it, but I could at least enjoy the music. 2.5/5

Old jazzy Brazilian music with poor recording quality. Culturally relevant, but I did not enjoy this.

No Felix navidad.

Not for me

Nope. No thank you.

This one was not for me. 1.7

Average singing at best but man I really dislike psych rock - doesn't matter the language. 4/10.

Eh. Not for me.

Brasilia is not really my thing. And this is no Jorge Ben

Inoffensive but slightly irritating mambo and Latin rhythms.

I liked the other Brazilian album better

Nothing remarkable. I just listened and can't remember much about it. 1.5/5

That's not my taste in music.

It's like listening to nothing.

Interesting and not something I would have sought out on my own. That said, no urge to listen to it again. 2/5

Solid soundscape specially for the time , fun listen but the language barrier limits my application .

Not my thing but pleasant

Not my vibe tbf but pleasant 3 / 10

Can safely write that I’ll never listen to this album again. At least knowingly. Two stars for effort, musically all over the continent.

This was tuneful, listenable, and had a creepy cover.

Caetano Veloso is alright, like a lot of foreign-language stuff it leaves a limited impression, but it sounds nice in places, isn't too long, and Superbacana is great. A high 2.

This is an album of a certain era, interesting to listen to, but not going to be in my regular rotation.

Huge Caetano Veloso fan but never could get into this record. Sorry!

It's not every day you sit down to listen to Brazilian 60s music, and for that I'm quite thankful. I think the combination of not understanding a word he's singing, and a Euro/Latin pop musical style I've never really enjoyed (which seems also always fated to mysteriously *atrocious* recording quality, even in the remastered version of this album), and that horrid turtleneck on the album cover, all conspired to make this a somewhat tedious listening experience, with a partial exception to the brief but kind of catchy "Superbacana", as well as the oddly Spanish-titled "Soy loco por ti, America". And although it's probably not fair to either Caetano Veloso or his album, I'm dinging a half-star each for (1) the fact that Veloso himself said that this album was "amateurish and confused", and (2) the Wikipedia entry used the term "artistic cannibalism" as a seemingly distinctive trait of Tropicália music, when it just seems to be describing eclectic influences. Even the "1001 albums" book entry doesn't have much to recommend about the album itself, sadly (although I did enjoy reading that artists like Beck and David Byrne really enjoy Veloso's music).

Loses a star bc it somehow remains derivative while foreign

Not for me 2/5

could i write poetry to this? n

Seems like the vocal melodies have no relation to the music.

blaah, masentava levy eikä peruslänkkärille avaudu mahdollisessa hienoudessaan.

Paikoin jopa ehkä koominen, ei niinkään hyvä, mutta kuunneltava

Didn’t really move the needle for me

Pleasant background music

This was some fun Brazilian music. Made me want to dance along.

Pretty hideous

Ultimately felt like corny, swinging sixties, cocktail music…..also maybe it’s just me but the photo on the album makes Caetano Velcro looks like a serial killer

1967 grows even more mental. From looking at the ‘Disraeli Gears’ inspired artwork, I guessed at psychedelic folk rock and wasn’t far off. Destined for people far hipper than me this was ok. The language barrier (Spanish lyrics?) proved to be the thing that prevented me from giving this no more than a cursory listen. 2/5

Too happy sounding for my taste.

Best Song: Tropicália. Some fun, bouncy rhythms in here. Worst Song: Ave-Maria. Real discrepancy between my expectation of a song based on its title and the reality of it. Overall: It's just a blitz of Brazilian samplers, where it felt like no song settled enough into a rhythm to be appreciated. This might just be my ignorance to the genre, but I didn't glean a lot memorable from this one.

Good moments but nothing stood out as ear catching. And unfortunately the language barrier takes away from it as well. 2.5/5

Second half is better than the first. Wont listen again. 2.2

This was a pretty fun album to listen to while not knowing what was being said. The instrumentals on this were groovy and upbeat. Overall it was a positively fun album but the drawback was it was in Portuguese. 5.0/10

Wow! This is kind of bad. Listening to this album just feels underwhelming despite me having no expectations for it.

Couldn’t get all the way through unfortunately. Very hard to listen to a lyric focused album that’s in another language. The vibes were good though in the half of the album I listened. But it just became too much after a while.

decent vibes but idk the language

Reading about this album beforehand got me pretty excited and then it ended up being a little bit boring to me. I was hoping for more variety of sounds or for him to lean into the psychedelia part harder. It wasn't bad by any means. It was an easy listen but nothing really stood out to me until at the end he busted out a sitar. It didn't help that I don't speak Portuguese which made it really easy to zone out.

I appreciate the fact that this is an important release in music history, but I am not too fond of the genre

Brazilian men are incapable of carrying a tune due to the inherent nasal quality of Brazilian Portuguese. Brazilian women are not afflicted in this way due to women's natural vocal superiority

Not feeling it.

Not for me

Imagine if your high school Spanish teacher had the class make a song in Spanish as an assignment. Then she compiled the best songs and made an album. This is that album.

Boring with a capital B

Another foreign album. Music was OK but I don’t like listening to foreign lyrics. I give this 2 stars.

Don't get this at all. Too much going on

Can kinda see why it was influential but it' s not really my kind of thing

It was interesting learning about his life and influence in Brazil. The music didn't do much for me.

This album seemed a little disjointed. Definitely just not my jam. I feel if I spoke Portuguese this album might mean more to me (although I seriously doubt it). Additionally, Caetano looks like a serial killer on the cover. It's a bit unsettling.

I'm sure this is highly regarded in Brazil, but it's just another 60s album in another language to me

Seems good as far as Samba (is that what this is?) goes. It could be phenomenal in that genre, for all I know.

I'm not into foreign language music.

Remembers me on some film-music from the sixties. A pleasant diversion from the recent albums. But sounds a bit too aged for my taste.

Mixed views: psychedic pop elements are very nice especially in the last song but I probably wont listen to this album again.

This has some groovy moments, but overall it's stuck in that 60's rock sound that is hit or miss for me.

Some of it is pleasant. There's some chilled tracks with nice violins and guitar. Some of it is kind of boring. In fact it's mostly boring. I'm not really into it. 2.5 rounded down.

2/5. I do think there is a beautiful nature among the songs of this album but I there is a language barrier that I do need to know to understand the importance. The instrumentals do not save it, a little outdated psychedelic music fronted by lyrics I need to understand but do not. I did check them out and they are interesting, and I do understand the importance of the album, but do not enjoy listening to it too much. It's not terrible, some good songs but not great either.

2/5 idk spanish dawg

No hablo espanol

Couldn't really get into this. Music wasn't awful just not my thing. 4

Not my cup of tea. Gets real psychedelic at the end.

Sin más

Latin flavor, pleasant enough

Í mörg, mörg ár hefur mér fundist höfundaréttur ekki ná fram þeim tilgangi sem honum er ætlað. Þessi plata verður því miður fyrir barðinu á höfundarétti. Ég gat ekki hlustað á nema örfá lög (sem eru á öðrum plötum) vegna þess að hún er ekki aðgengileg á Íslandi og það gekk ekki að finna plötuna annarsstaðar. Tónlistin virtist vera fín en ég ætla að giska að ég hafi bara heyrt rjómann. Set hana að minnsta kosti ekki aftur á.

Couldn't understand the words

•Not owned: Streaming •2.5/5

Interesting at times and cool percussion but pretty bland Standout songs: No Dia Que Eu Vim Me Embora Say Loco Por Ti America

First listen Saved 4/12 Top track: Tropicalia

This is so '1970s tropicalia' that it's comical. Imagine the girl from ipanema on acid. I'm sure it was very popular in Brazil, but not for me, thanks.

Some great songs here, but not a consistent project throughout

Never heard of him, nice but not for me

Some cool percussion and it sounds silky smooth. But it is too close to muzak, and I was kinda bored while listening.

2/5 I can see the appeal, but it sounds far too much like elevator music to me.

Meh, its fine.

Not really my kinda music. Not terrible. Maybe a 2.5

Interesting album art. Music is kinda meh for me.

Didn’t hate this, but I’m very far from loving it

It's very 60s, it's very Brazilian, and it's not for me.

Psychedelic sounds mixed with some boss nova vibes

Pretty intolerable for the most part. It's a pity because samba has been pretty good to me on this list so far.

Little strange to me.

Not for me Clive

Good vibes but too many rattling noises. Respect the various instruments used. Something I would expect to hear on a cruise. He has got better songs on other albums.

Not really my thing and not sure it ever will be

Hispanic music

I really don't get it.

Was excited to listen to this, but in the end was let down. I usually really like this kind of music, but this album really lacked something. It misses a few real standout songs. 2.5/5 Probably won’t listen again

Yeah it was alright

kinda meh for what i expected

Más o menos.

# 109 : Didn't understand a friggin word! Still quiet pleasant but nothing I would listen to normally or again probably. Great album art work with that 'Serial Killer' portrait.

Don’t get it really. OK, but not something I had to listen to before I die

Its super soft acoustic music. Not my type, so I am not a good judge

Kde bola atmosfera, chybala charizma a naopak. Nekliklo to tak uplne ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Caetano Veloso is not an album for me. I am not a fan of this type of music, which I describe as 60s Brazilian pop. Favorite song(s): "Tropicália", "Alegria, Alegria"

The music itself is good, but lyrics are important to me and I can’t understand this one. I think it’s Portuguese?

Fun, but so far this is my least favourite tropicalia album (that includes Beck)

I'm not big into Brazilian music, so it was pretty forgettable. I did kind of like the last track (Eles) with the Indian instruments. I felt the singer needed to back away from the microphone a bit. You could hear his mouth opening and his breathing too much.

Nothing particularly compelling, a disjointed piece of tropicalia kitsch

Ok, but forgettable.

Not bad, but cannot understand a word.

Zeer spannende muziek, maar ik versta er weinig van. Het zal best een mooie film zijn. **

AJ: porque Cat: I liked it.

Didn’t enjoy this. It’s not really the kind of thing I enjoy listening to. I don’t have a problem with non-English singing either. Musically not my thing.

There was just too much going on with this music so it just didn't hit my ears right -- too many tempo changes, too many styles, too many noises with the same vocal style through our. Wasn't bad but just really wasn't for me

Didn't do it for me personally.

This album is best suited as background restaurant music at a restaurant trying to be fancy. Or an elevator?

Only 2, too far in time and space away from me...

Definetely this is not my favourite music genre.

good elevator music. clarice

From Brazil in the 60s. Very cool for its context but wouldn’t listen again. Rating: 2.3

Interesting? Somewhat? But I don't understand any words!

Strange but fun at times

Perfectly fine to listen to, but every song is so similar they kinda all blend into 1

I felt like I was listening to a Brazilian Burt Bacharach cover band.

Oförargligt men inte särskilt bra.

Not much that I enjoyed 3 out of 10

Cheese.

Not that exciting psychadelic rock. Like a combo of 60s rock and latin music.

Interesting. Like Spanish Austin Powers music.

2 It seems our summer of love-era psychedelic scene made its way south at some point. Hearing a fusion of more traditional Latin American music with what reminded me of The Zombies was interesting at first, but I feel like it ultimately kind of resulted in the worst of both worlds, as no part of this album comes anywhere near the abstractly trippy or catchily danceable highs of either genre. I will say, I’m trying to open my mind as much as I can with this list, but some of these foreign language albums can be hard for me, as I’m a very lyric-driven person and only fluent in English. I really need something else strong to grab onto if I’m going to be drawn in, and this didn’t give me that. Didn’t dislike, but I found it pretty forgettable, and I don’t think I’m likely to return.

i actually listened to this one through. it did have big nandos vibes running through it.

Not great.

A sunny and bright dance in the 1960s. I can see why it was popular back then. Entertaining but not the best thing I’ve heard.

Para muy fanáticos de este tipo de música y este estilo de voz brasileña. Con algo de ritmo, no me ha llamado mucho la atención

don't like it

Not too bad. Favorite Track: Soy loco por ti, América 2.5

One of the things I like about this process is being able to rummage around in the rock and roll basement (in the basement..down in the basement) and find out who is playing/writing/producing on these records. When I saw who it was I went looking for Gilberto Gil and sure enough there he is co writing some of these tracks. I saw Gilberto about 10 years ago at the Opera House, one of the most extraordinary nights of my life. We got there about 30 minutes before the start and the place was heaving, they were singing and dancing BEFORE the gig, they had their own party happening just in preparation for the great man. Then the gig started, hooley dooley. I'm starting to think Dimery is just ticking boxes for the list. This is ok, it drifts along and has some interesting moments and some nice moments, Clarice is lovely. But would I ever listen to this again? No.

Easy listening in such a beautiful language. Sounded fine to me but not thrilling.

OK, nice enough. Pleasant, if slightly forgettable tunes, and cheerful 60s production. My Portuguese is sadly lacking, so I can't really get the impact of lyrics. The music is light and frothy and upbeat and cheesy, with a Latin swing that is fun. Pleasant enough, but doesn't really grab me.

I thought I'd like this more than I actually did. I like music from Central and South America, but I found this rather disappointing.

Found it quite chilled out but I didn't really like it. Not understanding the language feels like I'm missing out on a lot of the album's nuance.

Nando’s music

I like the vibe but it is not like I'd oftern or ever desire to hear this again.

Needed more artistic cannibalism.

it sounded nice.

I liked some of the guitar work, but overally this wasn't anything I could get into. Didn't want to turn it off, so it had that going for it, I guess.

it was okay. too quiet for my liking- and by that i mean it was too sheltered and relatively the same.

It's...eh? At the risk of an easy/novice comparison... the only other Brazilian artist i've heard on here was Clube da Esquina which was mind-blowing and has become a favourite. This album doesn't have anywhere near the same musical passages, drama, diversity, and occasional explosiveness of expression that that one has. And I realize it's a lame comparison (sample size of TWO) but I can't help but make the parallel. And this just comes up short and uninteresting overall. 4/10 2 stars

Tries my patience to be honest. All seems very adept and there are some interesting "textures" but orchestration is scatty and the often used vocal echo/reverb is oppressive. There is a lack of direction which may be due to cultural differences. Not for me and I don't think ill be exploring the extensiveback catalog. 2.5

Halfway there. Am I halfway done, or do I still have halfway to go? Can I rate this as a 2.5?

A little too kitchen sing for me... more a collection of interesting sounds to music than music itself. Not my cup of tea.

Music for a bad Spanish restaurant

I didn’t like this. An odd mix of psychedelic Brazilian and spoken word weirdness. I think I’m not hippie enough to enjoy this.

Overall pretty bland. I did like the attempts at Billie Jean, but I wouldn't listen again.

Brazil does 60s psychedelia. Pretty straight forward and not my thing

This is why I love this challenge. This is the kinda stuff I love listening to. I didn't really enjoy it, but I'm happy I listened to it since it's so outside my wheelhouse. It was a very interesting mix of genres that didn't feel very coherent. An experiment absolutely, but one that I don't think was a success. Too many things were tried to be done at once and it results in a confusing mess. But it was a really interesting listen to but I don't think I'll be returning to this. 2.5/5

Very Euro-popish so not my cup of tea. It didn’t hurt my ears but I’m going to be tough so only 2*

Not my jam, music was entirely forgettable, not completely offensive, nothing jumped out.

Messy and hard to understand

it sounded wrong but it might just be that portugese i believe is not a nice singing language imo

Jajajajajajajajaja

Listened Before? N Ehhhh... non-english stuff again. I gather from wiki that this is some sort of groundbreaking album. I don't know what it is and I don't speak Portuguese so it's very "meh" to me. Added to Library? N Songs added to Playlist: Tropicalia

I guess I'm not a fan of Tropicália. I find the overall sound a bit light and the music unstructured. I thought maybe I just wasn't in the mood, but when spotify (twice) offered up other Brazilian artists afterward I started bobbin' my head and snappin' my fingers.

Brazilian singers have the most mellifluous voices and I think Caetano Veloso is the smoothest of them all. This debut album by him would go perfectly with lounging on Ipanema beach on a beautiful sunny morning while sipping a pina colada. This is a decent debut but its a bit inconsistent and it doesn't features any keepers like his later material, eg O Leaozinho, or Sonho Meu. But that voice.... ahhh.

He is a brasilian singer, I haven't referents of him and the samba I don't like, sorry.

Ok - a bit 60s psychedelic. Pleasant singing. I'm not won over.

Contrasting opinions on this- I like the genre but this album veers wildly from chaotic tunes to steady almost enjoyable Brazilian beat pieces It seems like the Milton Nascimento album- there are so many other better albums out there but the '1001 album' judges just choose the first album by an influencial band and stick with it?

An ok listen, but the nuances of this perhaps passed me.

Jazzy though a bit samey.

was ok, nothing amazing but not offensive to my ears either

2/5 It's good.

I'm probably being too harsh on this album, but it did nothing for me.

Brazil the "tropical paradise", revolutionized by the "tropicália" movement. Combining the traditional and the popular, as well as the foreign and the local, the mentioned movement changed the culture and even the politics of Brazil. One person deserves respect for igniting such movement: Caetano Veloso. Did his self-titled album captured at least the beginning of this movement? Perhaps. But I don't get it. Chill vibes, psychedelic bossa nova, decent voice... it didn't clicked with me. Maybe a couple of lessons in Portuguese and Brazilian history might help. Still, I appreciate it. I didn't enjoy it, but I respect it

Kinda interesting, but mostly pretty forgettable.

2/5 nothing special

I don't know man, I don't have the energy to sit down and translate lyrics. Fine musically but I can't fully appreciate this album

alla terza canzone voglio infilarmi dei bastoncini fino in fondo alle recchie

This feels like the follow up to Murph and the Musicians playing the Holiday Inn in the Blues Brothers. Just didn't hook me with anything...

Not bad

Is this Brazilian lounge music? I don't really know what lounge music is, but it might be this? This list has a well-observed bias for American and UK rock music. There is occasional token representation from the rest of the world - sometimes the selections fit as an influential example of the evolution of musical styles and fusions. But why is this relatively boring Brazilian album from 1968 such a must listen in music history? The finale, "Eles," was the only song that was interesting. And then it was thankfully over.

This album is pleasant enough due to its “tropicalismo” musical instrumentation. However, the arrangements are disjointed at times and of course, I don’t know Portuguese. So I would rather listen to something else.

Psychedelic tropicalia. Not bad, just not particularly interesting. Best Tracks: Tropicalia; Clarice; Soy Loco Por Ti America

Decent background album.

not even exotic vibes can save this

No hablo engles

A cool eve sonata, pretty relaxing.

Didn't listen to all of it. Fairly easy listening

Inoffensive middle of the road music if you were looking for something to put on to build the mood.

Not my cup of tea. I might give it another to see if I'm missing something. As it is its 2 🌟 well see if in time that goes up

Brazillian bond themes. Not altogether interesting, a bit all over the shop.

Not my music at all, defintly wont be listening again in

pretty bad

Not as great as some of the other latin stuff ice gotten.

Fine. Not into it though.

quite nice, completely forgettable. meh. 2

Pensando que esta lista de 1001 discos era muy anglocentrista y me sorprende con Caetano Veloso. La verdad es que aparte de "Soy loco por tí América" me ha parecido bastante aburrido aunque en 1967 seguramente fue una novedad interesante.

Love the album cover, but the music not so much. It's pleasant enough, but a bit easy listening-ish. 2 stars.

Prima latin album, maar niet heel bijzonder

Mye av det samme

Tropicalia, samba, harmonisk

Not my language, not my style.

Pedos get 1 star.

Латино-американська пеніс музика. Оцінка: середня-висока 3

Fuck me no

okay for a minute.

Might hate this kind of music more than reggae. At least as much

The reviews are entertaining and informative. I couldn't separate the artist from the music. His relationship with his wife started when she was 13, he was 27. Creepy. Zero stars

Just couldn’t get into it. Had potential but falls flat.

The lip smacking is really annoying innit

Yeah. No.

Made it through 3 songs, could not finish.

This is really interesting! I like the variety and Style. Edit: Left up the original review, but downgraded to a 1 after learning of the pedophilia?!?

On a hot dusty afternoon, stopping for gas and a soda in an off-the-beaten-track latin american town, I imagine this is what's playing on the crackly AM radio in the corner of the store Probably important to a lot of people, but for me, this is a hard pass

Def serial killer vibes from cover
