Never heard of these guys. Cool stuff. I dig this punk vibe.
Sounds like "default" rock by definition.
Gonna be honest, didn't really pay attention much while listening to this one, but what I did hear didn't wow me either. Decent and interesting punk music, but not really what I'm looking for.
it was ok
Plaat begint veelbelovend met de blazers in Know Your Product. 7/10 Highlights Know Your Product Lost and Found Ostralia
Classic crunchy punky.
I can enjoy this under the right circumstances
The Good: It’s for ever! The Bad: Sometimes things should have an end… The Ugly: … or not b ours… Aussie punk before punk was born… kinda. Did I like it? Kinda. Will I listen to it again? Dunna. Can I tell you something special about this album? Na. 3*
alright
A very pleasant surprise - never heard of them or heard them before - and it was decent punk record
Nice album, I've enjoyed playing it and it flows well. punky and good riffs all around. Not something I'll revisit but I don't mind ! Definitely prefer the other Aussies from the same era !
Not boring, not mind-blowing....middle of the road for me.

Turn up the volume of the guitar, I can almost hear the singing
I thought this was pretty decent. Definitely better than some of the other punk that we’ve heard.
A good selection of uptempo punk and rock songs. The band behind the vocalist was on point and the drawn out lyrics works well with the fast beat. A good listen overall
Well, whaddya know? We actually got some real punk on this list instead of the post-punk, pop-punk crap we’ve been wading through lately. You can definitely hear the parallels to The IStooges here, but The Saints are more melodic. They were one of the first punk bands and their sound helped birth the movement’s explosion in the mid-70s. They provided substantial influence on many big name descendants in this style, and you can hear future bands like the Ramones, the New York Dolls, Rancid, and the Libertines in these songs. It’s hard to believe this album is from 1978 because it still sounds alive and fresh today.
Know Your Product kicked the album off with a bang, I'm a sucker for a good horn section and this song delivered. Bass was a highlight throughout the album, nothing fancy but dude was jamming. I think the rest was just average, nothing special but enjoyable enough.
Loved the guitar work in this!! Punk = cool. His voice is v funny though, sounds like he's speaking almost?? Hahaha guess it was probably an artistic choice and you know what, I don't hate it
Went to read their Wiki to learn about them. Fucking Nick Cave reference. I can't escape him
Was OK.
Decente, no tiene algo que destaque mucho, pero es escuchable.
Never heard of this, but I agree with others it sounds super polished for a punk album, which I really like. Good musicality; these guys feel underrated. 3*
The R&B sound is completely lost here and only the first track has the horns section. These guys were probably on Kurt Cobain’s mix tapes.
Solid punk record.
Not my favorite, but it wasn’t the worst thing I’ve ever heard. 3*
From the description I was expecting way more horns. They were really only present for the first song. More punk than the wiki blurb would have lead me to believe. Still a good album.
Not bad actually.
okayish
I don’t know. It was fine I guess but pretty forgettable
It was cool to learn that this came out even before the Damned released anything, but it felt very generic even though it was so early to the game.
Surprisingly good. Wish the mixing was better so I could hear the vocals more.
Interesting to read about this band both coming from the Aussie pub rock thing which sort of explains their incorporation of like Northern soul / British R&B / the blues into their sound, and also interesting to read about their disillusionment with the "conformity" of the London punk scene that they emigrated to. I like this album on first listen, definitely see room for this band to grow in my esteem though.
6/10
This was an awkward day for a listening experience but I think I was able to get the gist of this. It's punk with a slightly happy-hippie energy. It's quirky but carefully executed, which is something I expect from Australian talent. It sounds older than it is, though I feel the bones of the project could make for a really solid modern-day interpretation. The mastering feels too raw, which is funny when I'm listening to the remastered version. 3.1/5
Good times, dig.
This was a pretty fun album. Not something I see myself coming back to, but still a good time.
Didn't stand out to me.
2.6 2x decent
I'm not sure why I liked this, haha. I had a hard time getting past the lead singer's voice, but as it went on couldn't find anything to get upset about. Solid album. Maybe a 3.5 for me? Needs more listens.
Punkzinho que parece que estaria na soundtrack do Tony Hawk, bem massa, mas começou a ficar repetitivo. Voz toda torta característica do estilo.
Neat.
Standard punk rock of it's era. The horn section on a couple of tracks helped it stand out a bit but I can't imagine going back to this.
Proto ska with the horns. This rips!
A little light, but I enjoyed it a lot. ★★★
First listen
Hmmm, it is OK. Sort of punk, sort of Iggy Pop-ish.
BORINGGGGG
Fun punk rock, but it sounds just about the same as every other punk rock album on this list.
I thought this was the antagonist from Warriors when the album popped up. Alas, it's not, pretty decent 70s punk from down under. A few stands out tracks, great opener, good all round effort. I enjoyed it.
Got bored and had to change it
Never heard of them, enjoyed this album and wanting to listen to more
Definitely reminds me of The Ramones. After not long, the songs started to all sound the same though.
I liked it, but it’s not going in the rotation or anything
Most punk albums would be a 1 or 2, so this being a 3 is actually a big compliment
Hell yeah I would totally play a Tony Hawk's Pro Skater to this Really solid early punk. Apparently these guys were on the scene before *any* of the big British wave bands, which is cool. I had never heard of them. This is a very strong three, like the top percentage of threes. Looking at my 4s they are all stuff I think is rather clearly a cut above what I've given threes to.
Pretty cool collection of punk rock songs. Softer than the punk that would come in the 80's but harder sounding than its genremates. We love an inbetween genre evolution piece. This shouldn't be a complicated tastemakers album to anyone and if it is they have unique context. Additionally if this is your favorite album of the genre nothing wrong with that but you have some elite knowledge. My gripe with this album is it seems to try and be a concept album, which doesn't make itself clear enough to the audience. The album is too long for punk and not fancy enough to be a progressive act between genres. 3 stars. Better albums exsist but if you listen to this you should walk away smiling.
Sounds like all of the "The ___" bands from the early 2000s, but better.
tidy rock album
Worth a listen
A new discovery for me and another band to file under the header - bands I would have loved when I was 16. Listened a couple of times but feels very generic punk to me - not bad - but no real moments that grabbed me. I'm not sure if their qualification was because they are Australian? Buzzcocks/ Stiff Little Fingers had better be on this list if the Saints qualified.
The intro of 'Know Your Product' sounds exactly like Julian Casablancas exclaiming 'yeah' with cool New York apathy. Turns out these fellas are from Australia, and with the surprising advent of the blaring horns a few seconds into track 1, it becomes less Strokes and more Jet. That is, trying hard to be liked, and as a result a tad throwaway (and the melody is very similar to The Temptations' 'Get Ready'). Thankfully the horns slathered everywhere, don't crop up for the rest of the album (except the ordinary 'Orstralia'), confirming this is pure gimmickry. 'Internarional Robots' is the other album bookend and just as dopey. 'Memories are Made of This' is an excellent track, leading with acoustic guitar coupled with punk drawl. 'A Minor Aversion' is the equally good companion piece, and it gives the Saints a bit of a USP vs distorted contemporaries - think Psychedelic Furs, think Violent Femmes (and with all their melodic capability). It has a college-rock feel that really resonates. 'Untitled' is similar in approach, and the lack of ramped up distorted guitar allows a certain melancholia to trickle through against the resigned vocal, in the most effective way. Aside from that 'This Perfect Day' is a rocking humdinger delivered with a curled-lip. But overall when comparing with contemporaries, The Cramps, The Ramones, Modern Lovers or others this does falter somewhat. It feels rather average, that's except that core of acoustic punk which gets this to a high three.
alright album
Not crazy about most punk but this was wasn’t too bad
I really liked the first song, which got my hopes up for the rest of the album, but otherwise I found it to be a pretty typical albeit solid punk record.
Another artist I wasn't familiar with! Australian punk band "pursuing a more R&B sound," with horns? Sign me up! I liked this. I assume The Vines worshipped these guys.
okay this was fun

It is fine, nothing more or less. 3 stars

G’day mate. Never heard of this before in my life. You call that a punk album! This is a punk album *pulls out a copy of Random Access Memories*. This all Saints stuff is OK I suppose but not totally bonza. It must of fell out of the forgettable tree and forgot to not hit every branch on the way down. Throw another album on the 1001 barbie, now there’s a good drongo.
It’s fine, but ultimately did not move me.

This was a pleasant surprise. Compared to a lot of the punk records I’ve encountered in this project, Eternally Yours stands out musically. The playing has real shape and intention, and the arrangements stretch beyond the usual punk minimalism. The horns on the opening track immediately set the tone and add a sense of swagger and texture that pulled me in right away. I’m listening here more through a musical lens than a lyrical one, and on that front this record delivers. There’s groove, looseness, and a willingness to reach beyond genre constraints that makes it more interesting than many of its peers. It feels less rigid and more exploratory, which I appreciate. That said, it’s not something I see myself returning to regularly. The discovery itself was the reward. It’s a record I’m glad to know exists and glad to have heard, even if it doesn’t stick in my long-term rotation. This lands as a high three for me. Musically engaging, especially for its genre, and a genuinely nice find, even if it doesn’t quite cross into essential territory.
Fun and quick but not necessarily memorable
A lot of energy here...wonder why I've never heard of them
Started strong but faded a little
It’s ok. Just blends in. Nothing soecial
The era of punk where you could churn out 20 songs that all sounded the same
This album is at its strongest on tracks like Orstralia where there is some unique instrumentation to drive the sound. Unfortunately those tracks are few and far between with a lot of somewhat forgettable punk music in the gaps. Not a bad listen, but not one I’m likely to go back to either.
Like it
Solid album, not for me.
This was a decent early punk album, but nothing really jumped out at me. It has the raw energy and attitude you expect from punk of that era, and it moves along at a good pace. That said, there wasn’t a track that made me stop and think, yeah, this is the one. Everything kind of blended together once it was over.
Wat nondescripte protopunk. Of is het glamrock? Hoe dan ook, het is niet goed genoeg om van te genieten, niet slecht genoeg om af te zetten. De sneeuwvlokjes buiten zijn momenteel boeiender.
just another rock album to be put into this list. somewhat fast, a bit punky, yet nothing really special. 3.5/5
I was surprised I’d never heard this band before. They’ve got that garage ’70s punk rock sound that’s pretty listenable. Nothing on the album completely jumped out at me except for maybe '(I'm) Misunderstood'.
This album was from 2009 but I honestly could not tell - it sounded straight out of early punk era of late 70’s/early 80’s.
Fun album, although I got tired of it before the end even though it was a little over half an hour.
Interesting punk with other noticeable influences of other genres. I dug it more than I usually do.
Never heard of these before. It’s punk but with rounded edges and an interesting horn section to add a different style of punk energy. A decent record and probably worth a listen, although not sure when I’d find the time to come back.
This was A Minor Aversion, but Memories Are Made of This.
Ok 2/5/5
3.5
Pure Punk. You can hear a strong Iggy Pop influence. I also think the lead signer borrows a lot from Mick Jagger. Musically its pretty basic, but sounds a lot like the best of early punk. Definitely appreciate the inclusion of lesser-known bands like this over the fifth best Neil Young or Joni Mitchell album.
copy and paste punk
Cool, never heard of these guys so that's always appreciated. Sounds like a decent punk album, but nothing super smashing great, definitely not bad either, probably once again middle of the road for me.
A little more nuanced punk. The horns are nice but after more than an hour I had enough for this life
Just ok
Well, it's always nice to see another Aussie band in this collection, and The Saints seemed to have held up decently well against a lot of other 70s punk albums from this project. I suspect part of their decent showing is that they seem to be more musically- and song-oriented than a lot of their contemporaries. But punk's never been my cup of tea, so it's hard for me to really judge the more subtle merits of the band and album. But kudos to them to include horns on their lone hit "Know your product".
Wanted to listen to this band as I’d never heard before but they were highly regarded in Creem. It’s ok
i'm rating it a 3 because people seem to think that they are too good for punk music just because they listen to genres that are considered "cult"
When this started I was like "yea this is a punk album". If someone was like make punk music for this movie, this is it. Really falls off as the album goes, don't love the black eyed peas moment but it was the 70's, it's not bad but it's not particularly groundbreaking.
It’s ok. Not an album I’d always put on but probably would have been part of my late teens skateboarding rotation had I discovered them back then 🤷♂️
Good album. Would listen again.
Solid late 70s punk album. This one really isn't obnoxious sounding. Vocals are typical for the style, kinda not caring, kinda trying. I got through this album and didn't feel the need to skip anything.
Sounds like one of those punk albums that tanked at the time and later became influential in retrospect.
It's dynamic alright and okay enough.
not bad
3.7
Haven't heard of them before. Honestly they sound quite cool. Not amazing or groundbreaking but I had fun 3/5
Extremely generic punk. This is probably some shit that was kinda popular only in the UK and made zero impact after a year, but Robert Dimery kinda liked it, so here it is.
goed recht vooruit album, maar beetje middelmatig wel
Great music to listen too on this early morning that I happened to listen them too during. Sounds like The Clash, The Who and Lou Reed’s stuff. Fast and quick but in a good way, these songs don’t have to be long. Recommend. 7/10
Fun, if slightly unmemorable. A low three.
This is just flat out a pretty good rock n roll album. Right up my alley. I never heard them before but definitely will add to my listening rotation
Got away from British punk and got sent right into Australian punk! It’s a little more polished than the last couple punk albums I’ve had. The lead singer has a decent voice and the guitar was was very good and high-energy. The opening song was an absolute banger, but unfortunately that was the height of the album. It’s gonna get the same score I give most punk albums: 3/5
Чувствуется что это очень влиятельная запись. Весьма неплохо. Поставил бы и 4, но все же пусть будет 3, так как часто слушать все таки не стал бы
I liked it. More like a 3.5 and while punk, can really feel some glam rock influence.
Punk aus Australien. Nicht alles gleich gut aber solide.
Aussie Dead Boys.
Für mich zu punkig
Mediocre early punk.
questi so fregni
Super solid punk rock record!!
Decent, candid punk album. Hadn’t heard of these before so lacks the reputation going into it that a lot of the albums on here have. Maybe that’s harsh
Solid musicianship. But that voice constantly pulled it down into the basement of the high school talent show.
This is fine
Não é tipo de gênero que costumo ouvir, mas tem boas batidas, é bem animado, um clássico rock. A segunda faixa é bem mais animada e me identifiquei mais.
Bit repetitive, but fun also.
Mis favoritas en primera escucha son Untitled, Memories Are Made Of This, A Minor Aversion, Know Your Product
Decent tracks,
Kept forgetting I was not listening to the Ramones, which is a reductive review for sure. 2.5
my favorite kind of punk vocals where they draw everything out and make every vowel sound like someone going bluuuaaaarrrrgggghhhhh it just makes things sound more punk rock
I initially thought this was long and repetitive. I was listening to an extended edition :-( I think it was fine enough besides that
It’s alright
Didn't mind it however I felt some of the musical choice to have the vocals down low and the guitars up high quite jolting. 😅
Fun overall. 2nd song is a bop More jangly guitar rock than punk Sounds both of its time and contemporary on some songs?
Pankerica
It was a fun album for the most part. However, after 15 tracks, I'd had enough. I don't think I'll be listening to this album again anytime soon. 3/5
This was a fun find as a part of this process. I hadn’t heard of them and the music is pretty good.
Punk rock is not hugely our genre but this is decent enough.
Enjoyed it. Would listen again . Stands out for the time
Snotty garage punk from the first wave. Is it ground breaking? No. It's just straight up good fun. Best Tracks: Know Your Product; No, Your Product; Run Down
Pretty good Aussie punk album. #AussiePunksFuckOff
I was not familiar with this group but I liked it well enough. Poppy garage punk, I liked the energy and the sound, 3+ stars.
Better than I expected. I'd call it 3.5 for a fun mix of pop punk and garage rock songs. I'd listen to it again and maybe check out the earlier catalogue.
I have a vague recollection of this band from the before times, but certainly didn't really know much of their music. I found this pretty fine overall...
It was good it was a change of pace. I liked it a lot more than the past rock albums I have gotten. No highlights but it was solid through out
Fine. 3.5
Totally solid punk album. I would have no objections if this was being played at the function.
This was pretty good, though I was hoping there'd be more varied instrumentation beyond the first track. It's by far the best track of the album and the only one that says to me "This is a unique group worth listening to". I liked the rest of it too, but I wish they did a bit more. They clearly had the talent. It's basically a pop-punk album, if you can call something that in the 70's. It's not terribly aggressive and while the lyrical themes are mostly in line with punk music of the time, it doesn't have that edge that some of the more popular (or even the more interesting) punk bands did. Like if someone said "make a generic punk album that will get played on the radio" this would be it, minus the first track.
A nice little punk band with horns. Not ska. Bet they are fun live.
I enjoyed this Australian flavor of pretty straight forward punk.
Not bad. A decent early punk album. 3/5 Might listen again
This was quite interesting, more than I was expecting for a 70s rock group I'd not heard of. But still I think unlikely I would revisit. 3.4/5
first listen fun vibe, nothing too standout
eh
Not bad. I generally don't like punk too much. I love the energy and the grit, but I dislike the "proud I don't know how to play this" ethos. These guys know how to play though! Overall it's pretty good. (Especially the horns!) I don't love the guys voice. Mostly it's just Ok, but occasionally he leans into the punk vibe and it's a bit screechy/whiny. I miiight come back to listen to this again sometime. It's a solid 3 for me.
Decent
Never even heard of The Saints. Fun little punk album. I liked it.
rock/punk australiano quindi gasa ma da metà album ti stufa un po'
Dug it more the longer I listened. Paired well with the mood I was in (open house night).
Some cool use of different instruments.
Australian punk is a new genre for me, but to be honest it’s pretty similar to punk from anywhere else in the world. The album opens with the update “Know Your Product”, a pointed blast at consumer culture, featuring an excellent horn section which definitely adds a bit of pep. The album sags a little after this but there are some nice touches of humour and political savvy. Judging by this album they were unjustly overlooked at the time, but interesting in retrospect and definitely an influence on the second wave of punk bands like the Boomtown Rats and others.
Solid! Crunchy semi-punk I’d never heard before.
62/100. While the album sounds good and the playing is tight, there’s a ceiling to how far it goes. The songwriting stays serviceable but rarely striking, and the genre-blending feels more exploratory than fully realized. It’s a solid second effort.
Pretty good punk album nothing too special
Fun little album, nothing that amazing
Rating: 2.9 The lost soundtrack to a Tony Hawk game where you play as a kangaroo. Never came out for some reason.
while admittedly much of this album sounds dated, there are some pretty cool songs on here. “midnight” and “body count” particularly stood out to me, the latter of which kicked off his metal side project of the same name. the rest of the album is what one might expect of a gangsta rap album, hyper misogynistic with over the top violence.
At first this felt like a bunch of generic filler songs and by the end, that opinion didn’t change.
Interesting usage of a horn in punk music. Reminds me of I can't get no satisfaction.
1978 is way too late to be making this type of music
Not my thing really. Mod rock/punk in style a bit like The Jam. Basic instrumentation, singer not the best
"Punk with trumpets" Tony - 2025
I'd never heard of this band before listening to this album. Pretty solid, but no songs stuck out as something I will return to. A very tight punk band, cool that there are horns on some tracks.
'Know Your Product' blasted through my Bluetooth speaker and I was automatically excited about this album! The horns were absolutely pumping! The rest of the band (singer included) reminded me of generic punk bands of the 70s-80s, a kind of groany/flat voice and that guitar sound/riff type that is prevalent in that era. Sadly, the rest of the album is fairly generic. The horns waved goodbye and I don't remember hearing them again. A harmonica turned up at some point. There were small areas of catchyness and you could tell they were trying to vary the tone throughout. I'm sure if 'I was there' when this album was big, I'd understand more. But, like a lot of albums/bands of this time ('The Replacements', I'm looking at you!), I didn't buy the hype. 3 Stars.
This is pretty standard late-70's punk, but on the catchier end of that spectrum. It's good stuff, but not much to set it apart from similar-sounding bands from that time. Standout Track(s): Lost and Found, Memories Are Made of This, New Centre of the Universe
All very fun, but all SO samey like sooooo samey. Liked the little laugh near the beginning of International Robots.
I liked the first part it sounded great I liked sax and trumpets. Than album slows down and I think lost that energy even though it had This Perfect Day in the middle. But after that returned to being mid. Overall I think it's a good punk rock album for it's time I also think sax and trumpets are definetly interesting. Will I listen it again? I highly doubt it, but I definetely found few songs that I liked. Fav songs: Know you product Lost and found Memories Are Made of This This Perfect Day Orstralia 3 or 3.5/5
You know 5/10
I started this thinking it would be ok, and the brass was a nice touch, but it quickly got dull. Punk shouldn’t be this shiny and clean imo.
Great energy and rhythms on this record. The guitars are great, vocals get me moving and the overall sound is really appealing. Digging this record a lot and will certainly explore more from this group.
This one surprised me. I usually blow through the punk/rock albums offered up here but I actually listened to this album all the way through. I liked the energy and the songs with horns. There was enough variety in the songs that it didn't get to sound too same-y. I ended up rather liking this one. 3.5/5
Lightweight early punk - it’s fine but very ubremarkable.
Engaging but a bit too rowdy for me
I'm sure that this was a seminal album in the punk movement or something, but this is just not my genre. It was alright -- three stars.
Garage-ey rock
so so ... and how can Punk have all these instruments
Waa ok but needed more trrumpet.
Great opening track but didn't keep it going, all got a bit generic
Noisy boys making noisy noise. I would rate this as standard punk, but was interested to read their first album came out before most other punk.
Listening to this for the first time... haven't we had this before? I guess the difficulty with listening to an unfamiliar band, (on the 1001 list), is trying to establish whether they were inspired by or an inspiration to a particular genre.
An unremarkable but nonetheless pleasant punk album. Nothing life-changing here, it’s neither hardcore nor pop punk - just regular, standard punk music for people who aren’t completely drunk (yet). It lacks a bit of punch and all songs sound pretty similar (as is the case with most punk albums, honestly), but there’s also nothing really bad. Probably won’t listen to it again by myself, but I could at least blast a few tracks at a party without having my friends run away in terror.
Punk is not really my genre, but this had a couple that were enjoyable.
This was an interesting blend of kind of punk and rock from 2009 that I'd never heard of before. It did start to get a bit repetitive for me but it was overall a decent 3 star album.
Know Your Product //
Album 849 of 1089 The Saints - Eternally Yours (1978) Rating : 3 / 5 Some fun punk with a surprising splash of horns right out of the gate that grabbed my attention. There’s solid musicianship here—especially the bass work—and the album has a loose, raw energy that keeps things interesting throughout. Not something I would have likely stumbled onto outside of this project, but that’s part of the fun. If punk is in your wheelhouse, this one is well worth a spin.
Favorite Track: Lost and Found
Wasn’t familiar with this band but a good punk rock album.
I’ll give them a three for the horns on a few songs. That is all.
Decent ‘70’s punk/garage. Sounds a lot like The Stooges & New York Dolls. The Strokes sound like they took a cue off of these guys. Liked it. Not sure about making the 1001 list though
Billy Idol learnt a lot from this, I’d wager.
It's fine, it's just good enough classic punk music, 2.5
Great
aussie punk
It was ok. Another one that it hard to remember too much about the next day good or bad.
No salgo del punk con esta app. En este caso, punk rock australiano clásico con ciertos toques bailables, tal y como me gusta a mí este género. Me sorprendió la inclusión de algunos instrumentos de viento, sobre todo en la primera canción. Decente. 3/5
Really not bad. I enjoyed the listen. Slightly post-punk.
Nice punk album.
The horns are unexpected, the sound is a bit too polished, but the punk attitude is there. It’s not groundbreaking, but I dig it.
their sound reminds me a lot of david bowie. i really enjoyed listening to the album.
I had never heard of these guys. Australian punk band, cool. This was a good listen, but probably not one I'll revisit much. I added Orstralia to my playlist because I love the horns.
I enjoyed this so much more than other punk albums that sound basically exactly the same, and I’m not sure what it is that makes it different to my ears. Guess I will never know. (ntm.)
sympa en vrai!! j'avais jamais entendu parler d'eux du tout, l'album est quali je trouve, les musiques sont cool. elles sont pas non plus incroyables ou mémorables, mais ça s'écoute !
Good musicianship but it's not my thing
Good punk rock record
It’s ok. The lead seems to really like himself to the point of being smugly insufferable.
Like all of the classics that came out of this era that fall under the 'punk' genre there's some samey-ness but the interesting parts are what they did differently than their contemporaries on the the other distant areas of the planet. Definitely a worthwhile listen and might occasionally make it into punk rotations. I'm biased because I love a lot of what was happening between ~1975 and ~1982.
Kind of standard grunge/punk really. Nothing stellar but not too offensive.
First couple of tracks I thought I was really onto something here. But I did find it started lacking variety and losing my attention halfway through each of three listens. I do quite like the early punk and ska-adjacent vibes but beyond a couple of strong tracks it probably won't stay with me too long.
Off the cuff remark: a dirty slice of rock'n'roll that must surely be an influence on the likes of the Hives and Birdland Standout track: Know Your Product Relisten?: I would be happy to but in all honesty I don't think I will look for it...
Ganske midt på treet. Fint med litt variert instrumentasjon
Horns and punk rock? What a concept.
This was a solid album. None of the songs made it to my favourites playlist, but I didn't hate any of the songs either.
Kinda early punk? Idk it’s ok
It was ok
3.5
I don't really have that many strong opinions about this one. It's a bit more musical than some other punk-rock bands, but it still feels a bit samey in my opinion. It's just ok.
Im not a huge fan of classic rock honestly, highlights were Ostralia, and untitled.
Solid and above expectations - a rare combo of punk band and seemingly actual good musicians. Enjoyed the incorporation of the horns
Fine. Pretty punky.
Lyrics can be pretty dated but the music is good
2.5 upgraded to 3 because I have a soft spot for music from down under
I enjoyed Eternally Yours more than I expected, it's a more polished punk sound than a lot of stuff from this era and the horn section definitely goes down well with me when used, I've always enjoyed ska-punk and adjacent genres. It's not flawless, the bookends of the album are weaker than the middle, but the run through the middle is really good and No, Your Product is a genuinely brilliant song that sounds 25 years ahead of its time. Think it's a high 3 on balance but there's quite a bit of good stuff on here and a coupla tracks I'd definitely go back to regularly. 3⭐️
Does exactly what it says on the ti 3
Good.
I was tempted to give this a four to compensate for how weary I've become of Punk music on this list. I can tell this is one of the better ones, my toe was tapping, the songs didn't quite all sound the same and the band sounds tight. But all the same, in the grand scheme of what's available this isn't that noteworthy.
This album is like a Tinder date, good first impression, then straight downhill.
Quintessential punk.
There's a lot of punk on this list - and I like punk - but let's be honest, most of this is hard to distinguish between. It's good. Whatever.
All around good rock and roll, but none if the songs are significant or memorable. You can never really know what’s going to carry a song or album to the big leagues, and The Saints never figured it out either.
This project loses my appreciation when the albums all start to blend together. This is what I thought at first with this album then those horns came in and I went wait wait wait. This perfect day is a fantastic song. I don't normally love punk but this album might convince me otherwise. That being said -- I do think it's a tad too long.
Like the vibe, but got quite boring
Not too shabby, fun listen. Good energy, varied songwriting and instruments, like the acoustic guitars . Not a lot more to say3,5 Star
I can dig it. Sounds a lot like The Strokes to me
Punk Rick with instruments? Very nice.
This was a solid punk record, and the horn section really elevates many of the tracks. Most of them sound very similar, but it is generally enjoyable to sit through.
Fun punk. Could have used more horns! (31 known/63 new)
Whatever, generic punky energy, blends into the background.
uhhhh no
I quite liked it but it hasn’t left much of an impression I think that’s called damning with faint praise
3.5/5
A new one for me which I'm surprised about as I liked a bit of punk back in the late 70s. Great album
Decent for punk music, not entirely my taste but it was listenable. 5/10
Didn’t do it for me. 2.5
I like punk but I don’t see the point of the album on a list like this
Opening track is a banger, decent the rest.
I'm not huge on punk, this was fun though. There were some good rifts and you could tell they had fun making the record. They aren't trying to come off as too serious or anything. Pretty good stuff
A fun punk album with some new wave influences. Listened to it while I was at the gym which was a good fit. The horns were a nice addition. "Know your Product" was the best track but I also enjoyed the slower "A minor Aversion" stood out. The album breathes of a band having fun and I think it would be great to have seen these guys at a concert. Strong 3!
Solid punk. I liked the horns I the opening track. Vocals sound influenced by Lou Reed. But the use of the R-word was totally jarring.
Solid late 70s punk bad. Not incredible, but hardly bad. 6/10.
Another punk project from a band I’ve never heard of. This had good energy and some decently diverse song structures and vibes. I could hear their influence going into more recent bands I know. Still, probably won’t come back to this.
Not my main type of music I listen to but it was good for what it was
Semi-decent, wasn’t my favorite.
Not breaking new ground in the genre, but pretty fun. Not a bad draw as this thing winds down. No idea what the last one will be, hopefully something distinctive.
I liked it. Not loads. But I might listen again sometime. Nothing completely grabbed me, though I did like the sound of the band.
Pretty solid, and subtly diverse, but doesn’t leave much of a lasting impact. 3.5/5
Oh look, another late ‘70s punk band I haven’t heard of. This one wasn’t terrible.
Another proto-punk album served up to me. This one felt more "full" than previous albums I've been recommended, which was a good change of pace. Unlike a lot of the "look, we're anti-establishment, including, but not limited to, the establishment of music composition" types of punk bands, this felt like it came from a place of conscious effort to make a good sound coupled with the tones of punk and the lyrical motifs to tell me just why we're so upset with everything. It isn't my favorite album, it isn't the best punk album I've heard, but I did rather enjoy it. It's probably a 3.5/5, but I'm going to have to round this one to a 3/5 since it was just a little too long, and no one song really turned my head.
sounded a bit generic to me - was alright - quite long
Not terrible. Won’t listen again, but it was kinda fun.
I liked it more than most of the punk I've heard on this project. If a punk band keeps getting better, musically, do they veer off into another genre? Isn't one of the characteristics of "punk rock" that they just aren't all that talented? 3.5*
This sounded like decent proto New York dolls. Probably advanced for its time.
1 ou 2 chansons de punk, c'est rigolo. Un album entier, c'est un peu long et répétitif.
Pretty nice, all good and fun, not anything too crazy. Best Song: No, You're Product Rating: 6.5/10 3 Stars
horns and punk! it’s good for me
This album was pretty fun, but I also didn't get into it. a 1 and a 4 at the same time....a three>>>????
Aussies don't know anything about rock music
This was cool! Pretty standard punk album, but it felt like their instrumentation was a bit tighter. I like the horns and some of the other instruments. This felt like The Clash or The Sex Pistols but just a bit tighter and better produced. It also kind of felt adjacent to maybe the early more punk Motorhead stuff.
Just a decent punk album. Has its place in music but it does not feel like a world-changer 3/5
Blandly bland
Not bad bit of steady punk rock
2.5 stars. Run of the mill punk record. Wasn't terrible but didn't really stand out too much to me. Horn section helped.
Do you think The Strokes are a massive fan of this lot? I couldn’t tell the difference at times - could also hear a Richard Hell influence. Made me miss the art of the two minute pop song. Like Bertie Botts every flavour beans, pop one in - if you don’t like it there’s a whole bag of different ones. I wouldn’t say there was too much deviation in style but it was very fun and easy.
Due to the whiplash from current events, I'm struggling with just about everything except looking at my dog. Music included. The song Minor Aversion helped a little.
“A dumb thing done well is still a dumb thing” This is pretty good for punk.
"Eternally Yours" by The Saints is an album that, despite its impeccable production and polished sound, ends up being generic and formulaic within its genre. The band demonstrates technical skill and a keen sense of melody, but the compositions seem to follow already established formulas, without bringing innovations or surprises that challenge the listeners' expectations. As a result, although the album may please fans of the style, it does not stand out in the vast panorama of rock, leaving a feeling that it could have explored its creative potential more.
Surprisingly enjoyed this!
Good, fun punk rock. Deserves a relisten but I’m only giving a 3 on the first time around
I liked the horns
I’d never heard of them, and at first I thought I’d made a real discovery as I loved the mix of punk and horns. However, by the end of the album I did feel like the songs were all bleeding into each other.
Punchy and tight punk from the late 1970s that doesn't sound dated even today. Still, I felt like this album was 3-4 songs too long, I'd personally enjoyed it more if it had been a shorter. I wasn't really in the mood for such music today, perhaps on other days I'd give it a 4 but it is no more than 3 from me.
The opening track elevated this beyond standard punk fayre, but it quickly regressed to the mean. I enjoyed it overall, the sporadic (not enough!) use of harmonica and the horns were welcome additions but not enough to make this album stand out in the punk scene.
It was alright
I was a late bloomer to The Saints with their mid-80s albums All Fools Day and Prodigal Son which were more representative of their move into an R&B pop type sound. But this effort was still an enjoyable listen too. Very similar feel to bands like The Damned and even a little Generation X. It’s interesting that these Aussies don’t really get mentioned in the discussions involving early punk rock because they have moments that put them in the same school as The Clash and Sex Pistols.
The low points of this album really dragged down the rest of it for me, as I thought there were some really great tracks on this. But a decent amount fell pretty flat.
Enjoyable album. Some nice early punk vibes and horns were a nice touch (can sometimes be a big miss for me). Curious to check out more of their stuff. 3.25
