Reviews (page 5 of 7)

I thought I was going to love this based on the first track. Enjoyed the horns. Rest of the album didn’t live up but still solid. 3.25/5

Not really my bag! Generic late 70’s punk. Quite forgettable unfortunately.

Long album but some decent tunes.

Fun punk album from Australia's first punk band (supposedly)

I actually was enjoying this a lot but then I got really tired of it partway through. I feel that way about most of the punk I’ve heard though so this wasn’t exceptionally unappealing to me or anything. *Fav tracks: Know Your Product, Memories Are Made of This*

Hard rock music, mumbly vocals, I couldn't understand shit. Stand-out: No, Your Product

I wanted to like this but it's just rather unremarkable. Listened twice and no songs jumped out or got stuck in my head.

Punk rock! Enjoyable, but alas, incredibly samey after half the album!

Must have been great at the time.

decent punk sound, seemed similar to other albums in the genre.

Yikes, the lyrics. I can hear how this album could have been influential. Had to turn the RDMH cover off because it wasn't it. Three, for the number of times each song was on this album. 3.

Pretty good punk rock album. Would listen to again.

aika hyvin tehty tämä. vokalisti on ahdistunut mutta silti melodinen.. voisi vähän vähemmän sitä klassikko punkki kieliturvonta aksentti tyyppineen. kuulostaa kun kieltä pistänyt pari ampparia ja vähän ulkona läähättää lääh lääh lääh eikä oikein saa takaisin sisälle suuhun lääääh lääääh... loppua kohden alkaa vähän viettää.. ihankun ei jaksettu enää tehdä musiikkkia jahas kiva sivuprojekti mutta tehääs nyt muutama biisi tähän loppuun vielä hohhoijjakkaas. no kyllähän ne vie soihdun loppuun asti. sytyttävät liekin.. vähän kuitenkin lattea, kuin pariisi 2024 konsanaan. private affair

surprisingly good punk, at least you can hear the lyrics.

Pretty good punk rock from a group I had never heard of before. Nothing groundbreaking, but solid. I enjoyed the faster songs, which thankfully was the majority of the tracks.

This is kind of a fascinating album, it's late '70s punk from an Australian band. I had pretty low expectations based on the album cover, but it's actually pretty solid overall. What's by far the most unique thing is their decision to add a horn section on a few songs, including the opener "Know Your Product". Honestly, I'm not sure if the horn thing works for me, and it seems to have been really polarizing in the time. They have a few more scaled back songs that I really like though, including "Memories Are Made of This" and "A Minor Aversion". Honestly I don't really know what to think here. I think it's a bit of a mixed bag, but I definitely enjoyed it on the whole. The highs are high, but it has a few weaker spots. At its best its got a bit of a Stooges vibe. It definitely lost a bit of steam near the end, but very solid overall. Favorite song: Memories Are Made of This Other: Know Your Product, Lost and Found, Private Affair, A Minor Aversion, No Your Product, This Perfect Day, Untitled, (I'm) Misunderstood 11/22/24

Aussie punk rock isnt bad! its never been a must-listen genre for me, but this reminds me of Ramones here and there. Also I'd never hears of The Saints before either, I liked it more than I thought I would. Some songs have a real in-your-face feel thats pretty trademark of the genre, it just seems a little more lighthearted here and there like the harmonica in Run Down. Interesting album to say the least!

The instrumentation was great, punchy and fun. Singer, bog standard punk guy. 4/5 music 2/5 voice

I thought I'd grown out of pink, but this felt fairly modern and mature.

Just some basic punk. Easy listening, nothing special.

Albumi #92, 28.10.2024 Aussibändi The Saintsin toinen albumi on 70-luvun punkaallon perusteos. Erityismaininnan saa b-puolen avausraita ”This Perfect Day”.

One of the better punk rock albums I’ve heard on here. 3.5

Tight drums and surprisingly good guitar work. A couple songs blow, private affair and the last one. Ebbs between phenomenal, like on the opener, and fairly standard early punk. Sounds with "retard" in the chorus running tally = 1

7.2 fun punk nothing special

it was fine - perfectly fine

It's uncannily quite good. No really! Whatever happened to this band?

Rating: 5.5/10 Not bad, did not care for most of it though. Choice cut: Know Your Product

new hypothesis: the more straight time you play, the worse horns will sound. Bunch of songs with generic rock backing & snotty sounding vocals, a lot more like Green Day or Elvis Costello than cool 70s punk. No, Your Product is cool and then it picks up for a while again. rounding up for 70s punk outside the UK/US. music: hated. (⌐■_■)

It makes sense that Australian punk would be kinda cool. This is not all killer, there is a decent amount of filler, but the main sound is very sick and the good songs are very good.

Can definitely hear the first buds of punk spring in this. Gritty, spiky, angry but still with heart and meaning. Not spectacular for me, but if they're as influential as they say, then well worthy of inclusion on this list.

Nothing special, but enjoyable.

Lauded as a punk act - more pop punk then anarchy though - decent listen

got that brat / whine edge voice down. some good songs but at a point the songs fade into redundant could i write poetry to this? n

There's some fun songs, especially Know Your Product, but lots of songs are indistinguishable from each other.

War rockig.

This is a fine punk album, but it doesn't stick out to me in the grand landscape of punk music. I liked it, but it doesn't feel genre defining. Maybe the issue is that the spotify version feels so compressed, but it just feels a little lacking from a truly great classic album. Best Songs: No Your Product, This Perfect Day, Untitled Worst Songs: (I'm) Misunderstood

Per me è basic, è buono ma stufa

carino eh, davvero, ma non è particolarmente polarizzante né in bene né in male. quindi tre stelle.

I'm not a big punk fan but this is a good album.

I’m not a huge fan of the style, but it’s not bad.

Between The Damned, The Clash, Wire, and many others, 1978 was a golden age for punk… but I’d never heard of Australian punk band The Saints. Perhaps a footnote or a rambling sidestep in most mainstream punk biographies, they actually predated the above British bands when it came to breaking through, and remained active right up to singer Chris Bailey’s death in 2022. So, in I tiptoed as a delicate newcomer, to be smashed full-in-the-face with the delightful surprise of opening track “Know Your Product”. Upbeat, catchy, confident… and an absolutely glorious horn arrangement. This is self-confessed punk by-way-of Sam and Dave’s “Hold On, I’m Coming”... inspired. I was geared up for a whole album of horns, but unfortunately they only show up on one other track (“Orstralia”). However, there are a handful of other intriguing diversions here that kept me guessing and placed the band slightly left-of-centre by punk standards. There are vaguely country stylings in “Private Affair”, there’s the rapid-fire acoustic spittle of “Memories are Made of This”, and there’s the frenetic harmonica throughout “Run Down”). Chris Bailey’s vocals are good, but his register is so low that it’s often obscured in the noise: I found myself wishing for him to leap up an octave to send each chorus into the stratosphere. Instead, he stays firmly on the ground amongst Ed Kuepper (guitar), Ivor Hay (drums) and Algy Ward (bass) I won’t fault the rest of the band’s performances, because they aren’t sloppy in the slightest: listen to the instrumental prowess on show here, the locked-in groove of “(I’m) Misunderstood)” (like a jacked-up “I Saw Her Standing There”), or the nifty guitar solo at the end of “Lost and Found” to hear them at the height of their powers. I imagine they’d have been a riotous spectacle to witness live. I was loving “Eternally Yours” from the first second, but sadly it just couldn’t retain the giddy, gristly joy of “Know Your Product”. It’s worth sticking out, though, if only for the delightfully daft throwaway finale of “International Robots”. Anarchic all the way to the end.

Nog nooit van gehoord en ik weet nu ook waarom. Pas op, 't is niet slecht he, maar klinkt een beetje als een afgedankte versie van The Stooges. 3.4

Another album that just has the same song TWENTY SEVEN times

Fun and energetic punk

Just a great punk record. Urgent and energetic, short and succinct.

I wanted to like this more than I did. It's definitely ahead of its time with its tightness and polish that didn't really match the rest of what was happening in the punk world back then. It's probably a 4/5 in 1978, but a middling three now as it sounds like a lot of 2000s bands, but without the infectious catchiness that made the best of those successful. I think it's maybe the singer's voice - not sure it quite matches with a slightly more polished production? 3/5.

Overraskende god!

Never heard of this band before, and I was put off somewhat by the 27 song long running order, but if you listen to the first 13 that made up the album, its a fun, raucous garage band punk rock sound. And the trumpets!

Another band I had never heard of and loved. Standard punk album. if you love punk you will love this. There are some great songs on this. I really enjoyed know your product, memories are made of this and private affair. Favourite song: Memories are made of this. Least favourite: All good Album artwork: Cool cover

Favorite Track: Know Your Product

Wouldn't have guessed it was from 2009. Pretty convincing throwback.

Mate as well be called Iggy Ramone and The Stoogies, 70’s rock punk, I like it

In a crowded lineup of similar albums of the same genre and era, this one is just slightly above average. It had a good sound from time to time, but didn't have much variety or distinctiveness.

Ivgy Pop impersonators... but not bad at it...

Good punk music, and it was enjoyable. I would listen again.

I was intrigued with the opening number and its horn section. The intrigue faded, though.

Stand out song: Know your product. Apart from that, the rest didnt stand out. However, i did like the overall feel and sound of the album so i think i will come back for another listen. Overall, just OK.

These Australians have a distinct sound to 'em it's wild. that said, for the first wave of punk I see where a lotta the inspiration began. This feels like a distant cousin to modern pop punk and a closer cousin to the specific rock that AC/DC proliferated. Unfortunately it falls into the pitfalls of most albums on here unfortunately. It's just way too poppy for me. No saves but a newfound appreciation which is worth something I suppose.

decent punk

I like punk rock, but never heard of these Aussies before. Interesting...

Was unfamiliar but this was a lot of fun. Will return to it.

Helt ok punk. Lite mer rock bitvis och "behagligt". Men för mig är punk lite som ska, kan inte känna njutning som når högre på betygsskalan. En stabil trea (skulle nog aldrig under några omständigheter sätta på en punkskiva tex)

The Saints are one of those bands I probably remember more as a patch on someone’s jacket or backpack, rather than ever listening to their music. You can hear the influence an album like this would have had on the skater punk/ska era of the 90s and even early 00s garage rock revival. There are moments when I thought I was listening to the Hives, but I can also hear how they were influenced by bands like Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers. They feel like the missing puzzle piece in the evolution of punk. The production on this album is also surprisingly crisp. The horns really add something. A very likable album.

I liked the late 70s sound but the songs weren’t there for me

First listen Saved 7/13 Top track: Know Your Product

Not really my thing, but had never heard of them or any of their music, so gave it a full spin. Not bad - nothing into my playlists though. Rock in the punk age, rather than pure punk

Perfectly serviceable 70s punk.

Standard 70's punk rock. Nothing new here but good fun if it is your bag-of-bananas.

Bien pero ritmos muy repetitivos

Good ol' Australian punk. Iconic for its time, alright now

Imagine the Smiths where the bass remains the same, the drums and guitar are dialled back in the mix, and the singer, rather than Morrissey, is some drunk Aussie off the streets of Canberra. That's pretty much what we're working with here. The standouts on this album were the bass and horns. The bass guitar was very energetic and motile, arpeggiating up and down chords at just the right time and gluing the rest of the band tightly together. The horns/trumpets, in the few tracks in which they featured, were tight, punchy, and just a little low-quality (a la Got To Get You Into My Life, Beatles version). I'm a fan of that sound. There were some catchy (albeit extremely generic in the punk genre) guitar riffs, but I wish they would've gone all-out and played it with more gusto. The electric guitar sound is often very washed out here; same with percussion. Again, the bass definitely keeps the band afloat, establishing a solid energy and defining the chord progression when the guitar fails to do so. The singing is very typical of the punk genre – namely, unrefined and technically not great – but it works. Kind of. Great energy throughout the album. Some fun moments too – International Robots, (I'm) Misunderstood, Orstralia, to name a few. Trust a punk band to not take themselves too seriously. I just wish the music was backed up with better recording choices and a stronger vocalist. 3/5 Key tracks: Know Your Product, Orstralia, (I'm) Misunderstood, International Robots

Old school school punk sound in the new age. Also, they bring out the horns!

This sounds great. Not sure I managed to give it the concentration it deserves today, so I'll be back for another listen

If I liked Punk music more, this would be great album! Unfortunately I don't, but I recognize that it's a great entry in the genre! Some fantastic jams here.

Pretty decent old school punk. Would have been four stars from me if it wasn't 75 MINUTES LONG. 40 minutes should be the absolute maximum for any self-respecting punk record.

This reminded me more of early rock & roll than punk rock. As always, the highest compliment you can pay to punk rock music is that it sounds like something else. This punk rock sounds like something else, so it’s not too bad.

I liked it but coulda skipped a few tracks

Another band in the late 70ies on the way (?to punk?) not so bad, not so outstanding. nobody gets alarmed.

Some good songs, some bad songs. It all cancels out to create the most mediocre album of all time.

cool punk tunes, good vibe. bit samey though

They are a great punk rock band but why are the horns gone after the first track? With them all of the later songs could have a more interesting structure.

I liked the horns that featured on I think two of the songs.

It’s okay

This is a lot more interesting than the Ramones, but I am still not a huge fan of this style of punk music. I appreciate how the songs sound different from each other.

01) Know Your Product - 7,5 02) Lost and Found - 6,0 03) Memories Are Made of This - 7,5 04) Private Affair - 6,5 05) A Minor Aversion - 7,0 06) No, Your Product - 7,0 07) This Perfect Day - 7,0 08) Run Down - 6,5 09) Orstralia - 7,0 10) New Centre of the Universe - 6,0 11) Untitled - 7,0 12) (I'm) Misunderstood - 6,5 13) International Robots - 7,5 TOTAL: 6,85 (69/100) Current ranking: 130/173 Second punk album in a row. I'm not really a fan of punk so this is gonna be interesting. But this one IS kind of interesting. We have horns, we have harmonica, we have some slower songs here and there... It's still not my cup of tea, but it's not as shouty and repetitive as some other punk albums.

The Saints bring along a few “new” ideas, but they never have the courage to fully rely on them.

Real punk rock. The first song was a little much and I didn't want to listen to the rest of the album. But it got better with every song. It had a very clear punk sound but also included the quirkiness that comes from Australian musicians. Favorite is Memories are Made of This. Will definitely listen to again!

A couple of unique tracks. Run down throwing in the harmonica randomly. Feels like a soundtrack to Tony hawk video game.

What stood out about this album is the addition of the horns; in addition to its punk roots, the horns give this album a very proto-ska sound, as well. That said, the sound was most obvious and standout on the first track, "Know Your Product", and then faded more into the background as the album progressed. So while the horns was a notable occurrence, it wasn't a prevailing one. Otherwise, this was pretty standard punk for this particular era. It was fine, but it didn't really offer anything that stood out to me.

Преступно мало духовых.... Потому что эта хуйня меня удивила

Middling. I like the horns and appreciate a punk act with chops but nothing jumped out at me. I expect I'll eventually forget this band. I get why they had their moment but don't think it's timeless by any means.

boring but never bad

„Memories Are Made Of This“, „This Perfect Days“ & „A Minor Of Aversion“ wissen zu gefallen.

Enjoyed this more than I expected.

Australian punk.

Ja. Immerhin eine schöne Klangvielfalt mit nettem Rock.

It’s ok

New enjoyable discovery!

Decent and at time I thought it neared on good but suffer from many of the same punk rock problems of terrible singing and unremarkable instumentation.

# 191 : Solid album that totally rocks, Punks not my thing but this was good. Some awesome tunes on here. I'd spin it again if it came up. Favourite Track : Run Down

Decent punk rock. Not sure what makes it more special than other alternative groups like The Strokes. The vocals bothered me at first but grew on me by the end.

skating music???

This was groovy and surfy, i digged it

Can’t find the quote but I’m pretty sure one time George Carlin said something along the lines of “if you work in advertising, kill yourself.” and that basically sums up the ethos of this album!

Classic sounding punk album. Pretty decent over all. 3/5

Not a band I know. Love the first song, love the horns. The next few songs are more standard-issue punk, but still enjoyable. Favorites: Know Your Product, A Minor Aversion, Orstralia. I ended up listening to an extended album and it included a great cover of River Deep, Mountain High.

Stable rock but nothing that stands out to much for me

It’s kind of ok for me but not much more than that

This is ok

Totally serviceable punk rock. The delivery doesn't seem as angry or angsty as would benefit the music... it seems a bit plain or disaffected. I like both Memories are Made of This and A Minor Aversion, apparently a time where they were allowed to use the "R" work. ;)

вроде не бесячий панк, но на все выходные меня не хватило конечно)

Ástralskt pönk. Já já, alveg hægt að hlusta á þetta.

3 stars

27 songs wow it didn't feel like that many. This album is pretty mid. Easy listening for a classic rock style album but at the end of the day, pretty forgettable.

Felt repetitive most of the time and also it felt really long, even tho is not completely bad.

Not sure why’d you’d sling this on over any other UK Punk from the time

Banda de punk australiana, no es mala la verdad, pero tampoco la gran cosa.

It's good punk. But it's not great punk. And it's certainly not world-class punk. But it IS good punk and I happen to like punk.

Great Early Punk Record

Лучшая песня - Know Your Product.

Is "Know Your Product" and "Orstralia" the origins of modern ska? Sounds like a band you'd hear playing Tony Hawk. Like the bass and electric playing off each other on A Minor Aversion. Not exactly my style, but an enjoyable listen.

Another artist I've never heard of! It's not quite punk to me, but it certainly has that aesthetic right down to the production quality from this period. I also can't help but compare to Bob Dylan. Maybe it's just the singer's voice, but it has an electric Dylan vibe to me. As if Bob Dylan got into punk rock.

no pensé alguna vez escuchar punk australiano, no estuvo mal

Nice bawdy punk with tunes and a good sound. Just a bit short of stand out songs but pleasant notheless.

Good basic Aussie punk/garage. The only real reason this seems notable is that they were very early on the scene as a punk band.

Aufgeregt schrammeiliger Punk Rock.

I'm not familiar with this 'Aussie punk rock' band. This is a really interesting album, I'm liking a lot of what I'm hearing. 'Memories are Made of This' is a great song. Really cool/trippy vocal effects on 'International Robots', the closing track. I want to to listen to more of their stuff. Definitely a good one. 3/5

Fine punk 3/5

This is an album full of great punk rock instrumental performances undermined by mediocre vocals and melodies. I loved what the guitars and bass were doing throughout. But the vocals lacked energy or something. I mean, this came out in 1978, just a year before “London Calling” and “Singles Going Steady,” and two years after “Ramones.” And while the band arrangements could hold up against those albums, the vocals simply cannot. A shame, because it almost was great.

Solid punk performance from Australia. Solid and edgy but listenable.

Not bad background music, nothing stood out as amazing but kept me in a good zone

Paint by numbers punk music but I quite enjoyed it.

Decent album, not a lot of stand outs but a good listen. Was going to give it 2 star but then realised it's late 70's which needs kudos

Some decent moments on here. Rattles along nicely

Early punk hits to shake your rump to. You can clearly see where they are inspired by and have inspired other punk, alt rock, and post punk groups. Its interesting for a few minutes but gets a bit repetitive in the end. Still an easy listen if your just jamming along on some work or looking for a mid-afternoon pick me up on a commute home.

An interesting mix of instruments not normally heard on a punk album.

Standard fare

Pretty good album. Not a big punk guy but I enjoyed this one. I'd say I wish I could make out what the singer was singing a little more easily, but that wouldn't be very punk would it?!?

3/5 Best Track: Untitled

Punk isn’t my thing

Besides being the hated rival of my Atlanta Falcons - I have no experience with "The Saints". Didn't have time for the entire album, but the tracks I listened to, I enjoyed. Punk with horns - I love the idea. This is not an album I would return to, but I enjoyed my time with it. I would choose this over the Ramones or anything Green Day has churned out.

I colleague gave me this record when he got rid of his vinyl collection. Pleasant surprise. It's very similar to OG UK punk like the Damned, but more energetic. I think it's good, but not essential. Favorite song: Run Down.

Hyvä meno ja alussa kovia biisejä. Lopussa vähän hiipui.

Not a bad record, good straight ahead riffs, bass lines were good. 3/5 but may kick it to 4/5 at a later time

It's ok.

early punk, rock, petite touche ska. bien agréable tout ca 7/10

Is this the grandfather to ska? The horns are going wild. This is some solid punk. Good all around.

Solid early Punk album. Not sure what to say. Nothing popped for me but I might revisit in the future.

some sektch language, okay punk rock otherwise

More like bunk rock

Started off pretty decent and then kinda fell off for me personally. Full of energy, though, so points for that.

Cool punk music from Australia

One of the old ones that was actually okay, although still pretty forgettable...

70s punk sound. Kinda gets boring while listening to the entire album.

I liked it, but it can be a bit one-toned at times.

Hey, a punk album getting over a 2 is pretty rare from me. Some of the riffs were good and I liked the vocalists' voices. Definitely one of the better punk albums I've gotten, but, sadly, only good enough for a 3. My favourite songs were Memories Are Made of This and No, Your Product.

Ça sonne comme une parodie de Clash, ce qui n’est pas toujours une mauvaise chose

They sound like a punkier Velvet Underground. Not quite defining their own style, so it’s not entirely original, but they’re all enjoyable, fun songs if you don’t think about it too much. 3/5

Some songs had mid 2000s rock feel. Not bad

I guess I felt that, although it was a bit of a punk-ish band, there wasn't anything overly distinctive here. What made the Clash the Clash was they were wasn't just a punk band. There was something more there. I just didn't feel it. It wasn't bad, but I just... felt it could be more.

From the opening few seconds of Know Your Product (what a beauty) I was thinking ska punk like Goldfinger, Rancid, or the Johnstones (maybe Fishbone too? - I don't quite see them as punk though). It's the horns. I was surprised in my quick read not to see these guys tossed into that genre, they're just seen as early punk. Anyway, this album brings a lot of energy and the horns fused with the strings and drums give it a nice melody. Even when the horns aren't there they've got nice melody to go with their tempo. It's smoother than other punk and the album hummed along for the first half, though it did feel a bit repetitive by the middle onward. My other favorites besides the opening track were Lost and Found, Private Affair, Orstralia, Misunderstood. Great start to the album but it couldn't keep that pace. Torn between a 3 and a 4.

Didn’t know the band or record. It was enjoyable. A second listen may benefit.

if radiohead wrote this it would be a 5

2.7. Gotta admit. I've never heard of the saints. From 1.5 listens of the album without any context I thought it was pretty straightforward. Know your product was the one that stood out for me. I'm sure if I was australian and/or dig deeper in the discography I'd appreciate it more

What a quick listen. Aussie Punk doesn't waste any time. Some good, if not forgettable, tracks on here.

Excellent first 3 songs but loses momentum in the 2nd half. Fun listen but not in the top tiers of the genre.

It was a decent rock album. No apparent classics but all the songs seem like they could be.

Perfectly splendid. Nothing earth shattering or life altering, or, for that matter, memorable. But quite splendid.

Classic first generation punk.

Oh when the saints

Good punk music. I like the saxophone. This is one without much to say.

For 1978 punk music this is quite good musically, good urgency and not so dumb. Vocals are snarly and reminiscent of Psychedelic Furs and musically a bit like Stiff Little Fingers. I’m not totally won over by the vocal style, but I prefer this Australian punk to much of the English punk of the same period.

I've never heard of The Saints before, so I was really curious to see what this album would be like. Things started off strong with "Know Your Product." I really liked the guitar parts, and the brass arrangements punched things up and added some depth to the sound. I would have loved to hear more of the brass sound in the later tracks, but alas, I guess it wasn't to be. I thought the lyrics were really great throughout the album, minus a choice word that got repeated on "Memories Are Made of This," and the overall musical sound of the album was good too. This album managed to have the punk feel, while still feeling really well played and thought out from a musical standpoint. The biggest detractor for me is that the album started off really great, but never managed to hit that same level of greatness anywhere else on the album.

Alright, got tired after a while

Cool, but unremarkable.

Amazing start to britpop.

HL: "Know Your Product", "No, Your Product", "Run Down", "Private Affair" Not complaining about finding a new Australian band! The lush production in certain songs clashes somewhat with the two-fisted punk songwriting, and other certain songs could be written by any number of British bands in the 70s. It's still an enjoyable time 3.5 August 14, 2023

This was fun! I think the music got a little too same-y for my tastes, so I probably won’t reach for the whole album too regularly, but some of the individual songs are really great.

A good, fairly interesting pop album. Love the brass on it, and the Antipodean grumpiness in the lyrics. Vocals and songs are pretty middle of the road otherwise though.

An early punk album that didn't get annoying halfway through? The genre must be growing on me. Just the right amount of edge without sounding lame

Aussie punk. Good energy but I didn't find anything about it distinctive enough to be truly memorable. Ultimately, I guess that makes it Eternally Somebody Else's.

Never heard of the Saints so happy to listen to them. Some nice tracks and lyrics and a sound I can get behind.

Decent early punk album. Not totally blown away.

Catchy at times but not very memorable. A bit more melodic than other punk albums. By the end of the album I ended up liking it more than when it started. Went from 2 to 3 for me You hear a few punk albums and you’ve heard em all. It’s hard for me to enjoy punk this far into the 1001 generator

I didn’t manage to listen to the whole album but what I heard was alright. 3*

Enjoyed it. Will probably listen again and it may climb the rankings.

BL: never heard of before, will see how it turns out AL: thought it was pretty fun. The major problem for me is for a punk album there just isn’t no bite. I’m sure with a better mix & master engineer these problems could’ve been solved but nothing really stuck out and it all felt rather sludgy. This should be a case study on exactly why mixing and mastering is so important. FT: “private affair”, “no, your product” “this perfect day” 2.5/5

It was fun! I have nothing special to say other than I enjoyed my time on planet earth while listening. 3/5

more biker bar music except this feels like a biker bar scene from a musical. memories are made of this did not age well

Good. Sounds a little bit like Bowie, a little like The Ramones. I think New Centre of the Universe is my favorite one. Not an album I see myself coming back to.

Very meh.

honest punk rock

Another punk album

Really like the sound but should have been 30 minutes in and out.

typical punk album

Either this list or this algorithm loves punk music. I enjoyed it, horns and harmonica were a decent touch. Slightly better than The Clash’s self-titled, nowhere near London Calling. I need a break from punk.

Less raw than many of their contemporaries, with a horn section that adds a tinge of ska. The lyrics aren’t much to write home about though.

I really likes the anti establishment lyrics of this album. I actually think I might enjoy punk rock! This album reminded me of the clash another punk rock band.

Beaucoup de fun, énergie et rythme infectieux

If I had heard this when I was younger it might've grabbed me a bit more perhaps, but there's nothing about this that impresses me any more than the bands that I already consider to be the real pillars of punk rock.

Remaster on Spotify makes this sound very modern, which honestly may make it worse for me since it's so clean sounding. I like my punk noisy and slightly abrasive, this just feels too polished and safe. It was... fine.

Pretty reasonable for background listening but nothing jumped out.

Right up my alley, its got that 70s punk voice going on which is an acquired taste. The bass work is really well done as is the addition of the horns. Seems like a top heavy album, and the back end peters out a bit. Still very enjoyable. 3/5 Favorites: Know Your Product, Lost and Found, Memories are Made of This, Least Favorites: New Centre of the Universe,

Very enjoyable album

Kinda reminded me of The Stooges. I don’t know how influential this album was/is, but to me it sounded like the musical ancestor to 2000s garage rock.

This is one of the better punk albums on this list so far. I really like Know Your Product. Singer's voice is good, but the iconic punk guitar sound just feels like it's the same song throughout.

Big Tony Hawk Vibes Pretty standard generic punk From the same area as King Giz and Tame Impala so that's P cool

70s punk, like the Ramones, but not as fast. It was pretty good.

Recall a generally favorable impression while listening to this, but it sort of drifted through without making any very distinct mark. Seems like possibly an early artifact of punks road to more mainstream alternative rock.

It’s ok pop punk.

Sounded pretty average to me. Not Bad, Not Great. Right in the middle. I may check out their other stuff.

Pop punk.

Never thoughts I'd hear 70s punk with horns and harmonica. They should have leaned more into that. Fun album.

at first glance, the sounds like just plain old punk rock, but the more you listen to it the more complexity creeps its way into the music. I went from “I think I’ve heard the song 10 times in a row" to this is amazing punk music.

I would definitely give it a second listen!

Never heard of The Saints but they’re good. The tone of “Memories Are Made of This” surprised me. Love that bass line - it’s more complex than I was expecting for an early punk album. There’s a nice mix of songs like that and more typical riff-driven 70s punk. Even the straight punk songs often have details that distinguish them, like the bluesy harmonica wail on “Run Down.” There’s a Stonesy energy on a lot of these songs.

A solid early punk album. First few tracks are especially good

Enjoyable

Aussie glam grungy stomper.

This is one of the better punk albums on this list, but it's still not a genre I enjoy listening to for an extended amount of time. Well, they have tried. 3/5

The frontman looks a little like Kevin Morby and I can hear it, too. But the Saints' bread and butter is punk music well worth a historical note. The entire record's solid, with bright spots hinting at a ska hybrid yet to come.

Definitely a good album. I enjoyed it for the first time hearing it. Exceptional for the genre. Just wish I knew it better.

old school punk from a band that i’m surprised isn’t talked about more! technically sound, with more complex arrangements than you’d expect from a punk group. loved it.

Pop-rock actual con ritmos un tanto rápidos. Algún ramalazo de punk. En ocasiones guitarrero. Bastante comunes sus temas entre sí. Le ha faltado algo de variedad

Good album.

Ummm. Solid Australian pub punk rock. Ramones vibes (especially from vocals). Unmemorable. 2.75

I’ve established that punk is not my cup of tea, but this brew did not give give off the soggy stench of hot diaper. I got whiffs of R.E.M., which I believe did the trick for me. Guitarist gets the Secret Sauce Award, he was really putting in the work, especially in “No, Your Product”. I’m feeling generous tonight, but if this generator gives another punk album, I might just have to call it quits.

pretty good but completely forgettable, like Black Panther 2. Well someone had to say it, and the critics weren’t. 2.5 if I could. Also, this is a plea to Wolfmeow to not quit. I love reading your reviews, you constantly make me laugh. Please suffer through the punk albums, if only to make the embers of my cold little heart keep me somewhat warm in this dreary winter.

Sku ha vari bättre som en EP men ändå helt bra sång för sång

Surfy vibes meets more driven rock with R&B and a bit of the Ramones.

Started strong and then progressively got worse until it ended with a chipmunk voice. Probably should be a 2, but I'm giving a 3 because of that opener. Best track: Know Your Product

3.5. Great music, bit long

I quite enjoyed it but not sure I would listen again

Liked it. Liked it

kriitikot.. sanoivat että tässä punkkiin tehtiin läpimurto... R&B... Horns... ON KULTTIKIN OSANNUT TORVIA KÄYTTÄÄ... 2009 albumi.. Noh...

I appreciate the saxophone punk vibe

The better of the punk albums I've listened to so far. International Robots is a standout.

New to me, very good, would give it another listen

Aggressively average punk rock band. It is entertaining, much more pleasant than Ramones or any other punk, or post-punk I have recently listened to, but truth to be told, it's still surprisingly uneventful. The riffs are quite catchy, bass line and drums are pretty good and consistent (too much consistent). The vocals were toned down, compared to the rest of the music. I remember harmonica in one song, unfortunately I don't remember which one, they all sounded too similar. But still, it's nice to find out about a band from Australia!

Bit fed up of saying it, but this is fine

Energetic and fun, but doesn’t stand out from other punk albums.

Decent but ultimately forgettable Punk album

Good album

Lacks a certain je nais se quois, but I enjoy the guitar more than yesterday's.

This album is loud.

Good punk shit

Punk rock

basic punk rock

Pretty generic punk rock, makes me think of the Ramones, but less raw. Not bad, but nothing out of the extraordinary.

Good generic punk to play in background.

Decent Punk from the 70s. It's good, but I don't have the formative memories of this album in the way I do with The Clash or Sex Pistols.

Kickin’

Great punk album with hits of super early ska-punk. Not a perfect record by any means but a great overall album.

Mediocre punk/rock n roll crossover. Lead singer has annoying nasaly voice

This was a long one. I have heard of the band before, but never had a chance to listen to them, so this was cool. The length of the album definitely hurt it, as towards the end most songs started to blend together and sound like one another. There were a few welcome breaks in style sometimes, but most songs didnt sound "unique". However, I still enjoyed this style of early "punk-rock" almost. Best enjoyed in smaller doses though.

27 songs seems a bit much. This album is extremely cohesive-- or maybe monotonous depending on your point of view. Personally, I like the vocals and I like the horns and the hard driving beats here. But ten songs might have conveyed the point as there isn't a very wide range of the sound. I read this album as solidly punk-- and it's pretty good for the genre. So the problem is me. I just have a somewhat limited appetite for the album length in this genre by almost any punk band. A Minor Aversion is the exception here, but it's just not enough, especially because the vocals are very consistent no matter what and where.

A lot of 70s punk sounds exactly the same... not that it's bad. It just sounds like a lot of other stuff.

This is a pretty good album. I’ve not hewed of this group before. Punk with horns was a great mix on the first track.

Punk never fails for me. another good one!

It's alright.

I had to listen to this a couple of times to write a sincere review and get my thoughts in order. Love the first track with the trumpets, as it goes along it got a little more indistinguishable. BUT it was a vibe and put me in a good mood.

Yeah I liked this. Good sound, good voice, nice beats. But I guess it's not so amazing that I'll come back to it a lot

I owned an Ed Kueper album and I had heard of The Saints but never listened them. The first thing that hit me was Chris Bailey's distinct voice. With a voice like that you know you'll end up singing in a band. Musically, he and Kueper create a raw energetic sound somewhere in the space between punk, R&B and glam rock.

It's been a very punky week. I liked tios one, and from Brisbane of all places! I'd listen to more of the Saints, in the right mood

Fun energetic punk. The cover confuses me but the music is very straightforward. Opens strong and keeps up the pace with short fast songs and lots of attitude. Favorite track: I'm Misunderstood.

Very Black Flag, I liked it.

Starts off suggesting a variation then seems to revert to the norm. Solid with some punchy lyrics.

Solid and honest straight forward garage/punk rock. Love it! RIP Chris Bailey

It's a fun listen. Early Brit-punk was one of my fav genres a lifetime ago but I wasn't familiar with these Aussies, who fit right into the genre despite geography suggesting otherwise. It definitely scratches that 70s-80s punk itch, and although they do stay confined to their genre (making it a liiiiittle repetitive), there's enough experimentation and variety to keep it from slipping into the boring-zone. I enjoyed it. Bit basic looking back at artists doing similar things at the time, but was probably really solid album when it came out,

Surprised I have not heard of this group before. Great punk jams on this album. Upbeat, casual, and raw recording. More acoustic guitar than I'm used to on a punk album, but it really fits with the sound here.

70s Australian punk Ok

The Australian version of the Ramones . Great guitar sounds and good energy from the band ; just can’t connect with the vocals .

Never heard these guys before, but I enjoyed the album. They've got a good punk/rock sound that I'll probably listen to again in the future.

Más o menos

It bangs a long at a consistent rate, but not much variety between songs here

Listened to on 2/15/22 Favorite Song: Lost and Found, Run Down This album made me wish I was in a high school dance scene in a John Hughes movie. All in all very good but BIG 80s energy

Once I got through the first couple songs, I immediately thought these guys sounded similar enough to the Clash to have influenced them. Turns out this band was quite influential, but nothing really stood out to me for a relisten moving forward.

2/15/21 Good background music. Would be great in an 90s sitcom soundtrack. I feel like I want to rebel against my parents when I listen for this. Overall all songs were very similar to me, did enjoy the guitar. Favorite: No clear favorite

Nice and tight. Very listenable pop music with a little grunge feel.

I loved International Robot! It was interesting to hear such a mix between rock, and punk. I thought that the punk heavy songs were more interesting than the rock heavy songs, but overall a solid listen.

Who knew the Strokes were out in 1978? To me it sounds like they owe alot to this band for their sound. That and the Ramones. Solid surprise -

Pretty lackluster for a punk record. Which is actually pretty punk. An inoffensive listen. Will definitely give it another shot.

every song sounds like so many other songs. cool though decent

Basic punk.

Pretty good punk - stand out memories are made of this 3.5

Interesting melodic punk from a band I had never heard of before. Really just average though, but I did enjoy the inclusion of the horns. 3/5

Un album punk qui me fait pas grand chose. Mais ca sonne quand meme bien. 3.15
