Gonna lean into a 4 here. A ton of interesting material that rarely disappoints

Nothing quite wrong with this and I found the album enjoyable, but it never really congealed fully for me either. Reminds me of Pink Floyd along other things in a good way, and has an interesting sound, but I also think maybe it’s a bit too far away for me.

as of current this album hasn't fully clicked but i still highly highly respect it. it's a little long for my taste, but it's clear a huge amount of effort went into this thing. both the first and last tracks are completely flooring. looking forward to coming back to this when I'm in the mood for it

A very good psychodelic rock album. It opens very strong and ends on its best and longest song with 'cop shoot cop'. In the middle it kind of mellows out, which is certainly due to its long runtime at 70 Minutes. It is quintessentail psychodelic stoner rock with not much happening and the occasional 5 Minute solo. But the addition of an orchestra is brilliant.

Tering Vibey Kan 5 sterren worden

All songs are too "grand" to fill up an album. 90s idealism of a united world put together in the form of music. Somehow works, but since every song seems to be a Lord of the Rings size story, it gets tiring to go through all of these in one album. Good songs separately, but I don't think it works well together as an album.

good vibes

Daydreamy

Very nuce

I just discovered this one - what an amazing cohesive album. It’s an impressive contemporary to OK Computer and introduced me to an intriguing artist I’m interested in seeing more from.

Pretty frickin’ sweet record. It goes all over the place but always brings you back to some calming sound bath to make up for any discomfort it has caused you (very considerate!). 8/10

Wow. That second half (last four tracks) was awesome. Had to listen to the whole thing again immediately afterwards. An enjoyable experience.

87/100

Love this

Very solid album, felt it was a tad long though.

Fantastic space rock for sure. Will need to relisten 4.3

Lovely psychedelic album, floats effortlessly through every track, and a truly inspired sound. Not such a fan of the noisy tunes, as they feel out of place and haphazard in comparison to the rest of the album's meticulously detailed sounds.

This is a mad collosus of an album. Something I know I would have got into at the time if I'd come across it. I enjoyed this a lot for all its crazed meanderings.

Spacey, entrancing

I was expecting something totally different, and I was happy to be wrong. A bit of Britpop, a fair amount of Madchester, and healthy dashes of Krautock. Makes for a good roadtrip album.

I never knew that “space rock” was a genre, but I like it. It’s a bit slow-moving, but it’s got a nice ethereal vibe. 4/5

I’d never heard of the Space Rock genre and I, for one, am on board. I love that this album is designed to be so immersive. The blending and transitions are really well executed, moving from chaotic ambiance to a bright pop groove, pulling back to abstract, then hitting the gas again, all without any indication the track has changed. I’ll definitely be checking out more of Jason Pierce’s work.

Loved the opening track, but as the album went on it lost me a bit. Wide variety of sounds but every track still seemed pretty similar in terms of structure. felt like this could have benefited from some <5 minute tracks. If almost any of these was a regular albums closer track it’d be a bright spot on the album, but having every song be a big sprawling album closer type tracks hurts it. Too much of a good thing, so overwhelming that it is underwhelming type thing

Only tracks I knew going in were the title track and Come Together, neither of which I'm HUGE on, but this was a pleasant surprise overall. Really started coming together for me in the back half when they really ramp up the intensity. 3.5/5

Whiteboy play the tripped out space gospel

Really enjoyed this album - some of it is quite britpoppy and some is a bit more spaced out.

quite unexpected in a good way

first listen great album super interesting, last track was way too long

It was strange and I really really liked it

Not what I expected but it was very good

pretty weird

I enjoyed this album in general, particularly the more spacey tracks. There are a few low points, especially the rockier Come Together and Electricity, however it generally gets better as it goes along. The album builds up to a nice atmosphere and the production works strongly in its favor.

All rising action; a little overwhelming as a single listen.

Never heard of this group but really liked this album. After initial hesitation of another 90s-oasis-type-band, I was treated to an ambient, rock album with a nice mixture of songs and tempos to keep it from getting boring. Even the 17 min Cop shoot Cop is worth it's runtime. A nice discovery!

Verging on masterpiece territory

good good

First track made me pretty curious and the rest of the album left me pretty interested in this group. Really fascinating and eclectic blend of different sound styles all at play, with some more cool throwbacks to early punky stuff just as at home with spacey lullaby tracks. I'm not sure I was in the right mood to really get into the orchestrated maudlin break-up tracks, but some of the jammier tracks I don't want to write off just yet. Just such a big album to really get into in just 24 hours, so I'm leaving it as a light 4 for now with the intention of some further listening. Fave tracks: Ladies and gentleman we are floating in space/ I Think I'm in Love

I had never heard any of this album before. I thought the opening couple of tracks were okay, but it lost me for a while from I Think I’m In Love onwards & I was pretty much gonna write it off as background music - quality, but background music nonetheless. Then I was woken up by The Individual - Sometimes noisy shit just works so well. No God Only Religion had a similar effect on me, but the final track, Cop Shoot Cop, clinched the deal. Where’s this mother been hiding for 25 years? Beginning with the most famous lines John Prine ever wrote, featuring the great Dr. John on piano & backing vocals (nice that he could be involved in something this epic 30 years after recording Walk On Gilded Splinters) this is an amazing piece of music. Background music indeed!

Space rock / dream pop. Very good.

Enjoyed this one a lot. Love the whole feel of the album, especially the more "space rock" songs - reminds me of early Pink Floyd, but with their own original twist. I really liked the title track, stay with me, and cop shoot cop. No dislikes. Very solid all around, will be listening again in the future 8/10

4 stars.

Might listen to some again

Excellent, title track was my favorite. Last track did not need to go on for that long though

Really enjoyed this one. Some really cool psych/space rock cuts on here. Some people say there’s too much going on, but I kinda like that. Well produced too.

Never heard of this but pleasanrly surprised. Cool Waves and the title track stand outs 3.5

Ladies and Gentlemen, we are still loving this album

I liked the album as a whole, but felt that the later songs were a bit worse than the earlier ones. The songs I liked the most were probably the opener, Electricity and Cool Waves (and the last song which was 17 minutes long)

Some super cool ambient & neo psychedelic rock Whole album flows really well as if it is just one long song. Some songs are a feast for the ears without being overwhelming. Super melodic giving some songs a lullaby feel in parts.

respect the void

I think I`m in love - сильно долго разгонялись Ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space - открывашка таки запала в душу.

I think, I'm in Love

Come Together, All of My Thoughts, Electricity, No God Only Religion, Cool Waves.

it is a great album, loved all the sounds and magic over the songs along the record. Perfect

Pretty listenable psychedelic indie

Very dreamy. Sometimes abrasive. It’s good, though the jam kinda drags in a bit. You have to be in the mood for it. Still a good album. Not my cup of tea, maybe when I am depressed. 4/5

Love it

This opens soooo well, lovely layers of melody. Album is probably a bit too long - plenty of aimless noodling, quite possible fueled by a bucket load of illicit substances.

Good sound, too slow for my liking. My favorite song is Electric, also the fastest song on the album. Good, not my favorite.

I thought I was in for another electronic music album by the looks of the album cover, but I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Great hooks, lyrics, musicianship, and overall presentation. This is a sleeper hit for me. I have a great admiration for Spiritualized as a complete album, not just a track here and there. The final track is a ride...

: What happens when you inflate shoegaze so much it gets overblown? We TRANSCEND I'm telling ya, we TRANSCEND! Because you see, we're just floating in space!!! : You're just high, Susan, cut it out.

(Broken Heart me dévaste)

dope nok

I really like this album and have downloaded it for more listening.

Way better than I expected, actually. The title track is fantastic alone, and the rest of the album holds up.

I don't know how I missed this one the first time around. Really enjoyed it.

Its like Britpop meets Shoegaze and I'm here for it

Mi nuevo comfort álbum

Great will listen again at home

3.75/5

This is the second pleasant surprise in two days. Very unique album with some 80's new wave/proto-industrial vibes mixed with some jazz, noise and ambient. Not the most groundbreaking material, and not without some weak moments, but overall this is good shit. Come Together and Cop Shoot Cop are my favs here. The generator is on fire! Can we make it 3 in a row? Here... we.... go....

joojoo on se hyvä.... progressive psuyhdchedelic rock album. EI kiipeä viiteen tähteen EI EI EI, annetaan neljä... menee ylös alas kokoajan... jos pysyisi ylös niin viisi mutta ei.... liian monta kertaa putoaa laatu. stay with me. paras.

I enjoyed a lot of this

Not my most favorite album, but could definitely hear how it influenced other bands (like Coldplay).

I've only really discovered this in the past few years, so I don't have a huge connection with it. There are some fantastic songs on it, particularly the first three. It is quite jam rock-y and, um, space-y in places. So it's one where I find I need to be in the right mood for it. Its a relaxing sort of chill out album, but also quite emotional in places. The last song "Cop Shoot Cop" is 17 mins long, so could be seen as a bit self indulgent. But over all the album is very well produced and put together. You can tell a huge amount of work went into it with a wide range of great musicians. 8/10

It's pretty good, but becomes quite unfocused at points. Especially that final track which just drags on for no reason at all.

I used to like the title track a lot. I still do, but I used to, too. Except the reissue album cover looks stupid, like a tilted lego. The whole album is noisy and repetitive, but in a good way. Elvis and Beatles references, besides other rock n roll throwbacks, make it feel like part of a grand tradition of pop.

Inesperado, muy bien, 4 alto

Well this was nice to hear again. Been a while. I forgot how consistently good this album is. Maybe not quite a 5-star, but I will be spinning this one more frequently now. If you dig this, check out Spacemen 3. more stripped-down and droney, but also great.

I was not familiar with Spiritualized. Surprising because they align with the late 90s chill vibes I adore---Air, Zero 7, Groove Armada, etc. I loved the psychedelic cacophony background in I Think I'm In Love. Electricity brought the rock to the spacey roll. Cool Waves went on a bit long but I admire the use of the London Community Gospel choir. I can't parse out all the instruments used in this kind of music---horns, keyboards, and definitely some magic trips, but I totally dig. AWESOME album cover and that blue would win Pantone of the year if I had a say. SIDENOTE: I was mesmerized by the blue. If you listen on Spotify the header art is great and the blue is actually a very subtle gradient (I pulled it into Illustrator to confirm this), which makes it just glow and float (like in space). Beautiful, wild. I'll explore a lot more of Spiritualized.

Very pretty instrumentation, vocals were appropriate for the style and didn't sound like messy shit. Really pleasant to listen to, even the discordant and "noisy" bits. Probably not something I'd listen to again or regularly but really enjoyable the first time through. 4

Good album, but an example of how CDs encouraged overlong albums.

Dude put work in on every song, a bit sad sometimes tho

Dit was best tof

It wasn’t as great as I remember it.

Bizarre, sweet, triumphant. It's a long listen but it rewards with major crescendoes, heartfelt performances, and very jazzy chaos. Only thing that's a blemish is the new cover art for it which is not as interesting.

This one surprised me. Not sure why I had a view in my head that I hated this band. Turns out it’s actually very good

This is a cool record. Brash and loud. Modern psych rock?

Very nice. Different. Varied.

I enjoyed this a lot, but wasn’t a huge fan of the lengthy noodling on some tracks.

4.5 really nice album with lots of cool soundscapes. Something I've never heard of and very cool discovery . Def worth a revisit

Interesting. I like the last song, but it's 17 minutes long haha. A quiet, melodic album.

Never heard this in full before but now appreciate why its spacerock gospel is loved so much. Borderline euphoria in contrast to extreme melancholy: what a mix!

Really, really good.

Where have I been with regards to this - excellent!

Nice blend of electronica and shoegaze indie. Like it! A lot!

I never heard about Spiritualized and didn't have much information about "space rock", but I loved this album. The last songs are a little bit exaggerated for my taste, but the first songs are more than a good reward to receive for these last songs. I rate it with 4 stars for the whole album, but absolutely 5 stars for the first half of the album. It's very nice to note that the late 90s (that I lived and liked very much) still have these hidden gems to find out.

Still sounds great.

I like it, has some great tracks. Also doesn't fall into the space rock trap of extended spoken word sections

Really like this. One of the few albums we've had so far that I've actually listed to from start to finish before, but it must've been at least a decade since I last heard it all the way through. That beginning section is wonderful, it tails off a little in the middle, and then picks up again at the end with that closer. Just squeaks a 4 for me.

An old favourite I still regularly listen to, the arrangements for strings and choir elevate this album beyond Jason Pierce’s previous work with Spaceman 3 and the earlier Spiritualized albums. Hard to be objective about this album as it informed/(s) so much of my musical taste, but I particularly love the repeating bass refrain on “I think I’m in love”, the juxtaposition of the lost, plaintive lyrics on “All of My thoughts” against the chaos of the music, the emotive use strings on “Broken Heart” and the tentative steps towards acceptance and even hope on “Cool Waves”.

Excellent. Makes me wish I was a stoner.

Bit trippy but tells a story through it.

Eating cake on the toilet

The smack-addled, cinematic end of Britpop.

This one was cool

I actually liked it :o

Reminds me of a movie soundtrack for an imaginary film about rocket ships being lost in outer space. Super interesting, really chill, I love it

I’ve liked

Cool waves sounds so spiritual. Felt like listening to a soulful hymn.

Expansive, excellent. Surprised that i hadn't heard any of this before. Reminded me in places of the Kula Shaker album that i adored in my early teenage years

that was good!

4.5/5. Kinda a classic. Solid rocker

Forgot how good this album is

Great album

7/10. Honestly, pretty good, at least in the background.

I’m a big fan of the sound, not a big fan of the length. 7/10

Great album. Had been awhile since I’d listened but really enjoyed that. Climbatize is amongst the best things the Prodigy have done. One Star off for that Firestarter nonsense but otherwise a top album

i loveeee the name of this album. also i can hear the influences of pachelbel's canon in the titular track. not the last person to do that and probably not the first but still very neat :)

I liked the vibe of this one, and how it utilizes rapid tempo changes. Some the the tracks drag on a bit

Exceptional album 💿 in my opinion I have loved it for years. The opening track melts your heart.😁

Groovy baby

A dreamy album full of vast orchestral instrumentals that take you to a place off into the ether. Just as the album name suggests - we are left to feel as though we are indeed floating in space (and time). The addition of Elvis' 'Can't Help Falling in Love' on the title track, sets you up for a kind of mystique the album is going to bring. Best: Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space (I Can't Help Falling in Love) Worst: No God Only Religion

1. The rock defined genre 2. Vocals along with bg vox 3. Societal lyrics

Cool atmostpheric album. Won album of the year over Radiohead ok computer. Need to give it a relisten.

Hits you like a psychedelic assault. In a good way.

I loved the atmospheric quality of the album but it was a little messy

I enjoyed the album but there were moments of chaos and noise I had to fast forward through. Overall a 3.5

I think this album unfairly gets called a one-song-album a lot, but there's a lot here beyond the title track. The first three songs (including that title track) are all fantastic, and there are some great deep cuts throughout. It's too long, and some of the songs also feel too long on their own, but this is brit-pop required listening to my ears.

love the layers and drones, cool find

chill and melodic so far. hoping it keeps up and its a solid 4.

Very cool space rock album. I always love discovering stuff like this.

Spiritualized's 4th and the most known album (1997). Great neo-psychedelia with noise sounds.

Very nice album

Really good album, not sure why I didn't get into it at the time. Title track, come together, and electricity were my favourite songs.

This is what Oasis thought "Be Here Now" would sound like.

The opening track is earth shatteringly beautiful and one I've loved for ages. I never got far into the rest of the album before though. Come Together is good, but a bit sludgy, like Primal Scream at their dullest. I Think I'm in Love won me back again though, beautiful and layered and textural and sad. By All Of My Thoughts I'm starting to wonder if every track really needs a full wall of sound freakout - it leaves a lot of the songs feeling a bit too similar. Final thoughts - every time this goes slow and vulnerable, it's amazing. Every time it tries to be 'rock and roll' it's dull. Had three tracks been dropped it'd be a five star album.

This one was pretty fucking cool. I'm gonna recommend this one to my future self when I took a look over these in a few years. Lots of sounds bro, listen again.

Lots of free form expression here. Love the interplay between distorted guitars and brass. Great. Dirge like at times.

The title track is so good, I went on YouTube where some fella had put together a one hour loop of it. There are a few more long and explorative numbers on this album which I enjoyed so I will certainly be playing this more.

I really like this album. It rocks hard in places, is very spacey and psychedlic too a la Spacemen 3...but better than Spacemen 3. Also has a Mercury Rev vibe in spots. But as usual its the solid songs that make this a very satisfying listen. 4 stars

Atmospheric panning on Come Together is trippy as hell. Definitely a depression album. Cop Shoot Cop got a little grating but probably just didn't align with my mood.

The title song will forever be stuck in my head, and this is a GOOD thing. It is the absolute best song on the album. All I want in life's a little bit of love To take the pain away Getting strong today A giant step each day The rest of the album is good. I enjoyed it. Standout: Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space.

I really enjoyed this one. The last track is way too long, but other than that it's a very enjoyable album.

The album title describes the state the album exists in with a mix of space rock and brit pop/rock. It's a lot of fun, but maybe a bit long.

Tremendously good album! Widely regarded as a classic and rightly so. I love it, there are a couple of tunes on it that are skippable, so 4 out of 5 for me. I’ve had this album for years though, so that may affect the rating too.

cool experience but not something i would actively listen to. except track 1 that one was nice!!

I was slow I'll listen too it today. Did hear the can't help falling in love with you thing though, and that was absolutely amazing.

ladies & gentlemen i am truly floating in space. such magical instruments along with the lots of other noises so much noise is the best thing i have ever heard. who doesn't love a pirate x shoegaze crossover? going to listen to it in the dark later for sure

I picked up this album years ago from my dad thinking that I was into some cool weird "ladies and gentleman we are floating in space"shit. Album still holds up but is honestly not anywhere as bizarre as I remembered it.

- stuff damon albarn listents to - space

quite calming too

A fun spacy mellow album. 0RS

Tiene momento verdaderamente hermosos.

Chilled out album. Some nice strings and easy vocals. Creates a dreamy kind of atmosphere when listening. Some interesting arrangements with different instruments lending each song a slightly different character

Straight out the gate, I'm impressed by how this album does not waste any time. You want a title? You got a title. With absolutely no delay, the first thing you hear from this album is a woman's voice saying, "Ladies and gentlemen, we are floating in space." Aside from that, the music is pretty solid. It's kind of a shoegazy, atmospheric rocker with a lot of interesting effects that give it a feel sort of halfway between a traditional indie rock album and a collection of ambient recordings. I think I'll come back to this one.

surprisingly awesome

I dig it. Spacerock is definitely for me.

This was an absolute pleasure.

Really easy listening. Not a sound I'm used to, but I really enjoyed it. Kinda like a trance rock joint. Would definitely listen to this again. Kind of a hidden gem of a record.

Good album. Last song is really long. Would listen to again.

Inspiration from Pink Floyd can be seen. Parts are too generic rock. 3.5

fye 9/10

Not as good as I remember

Not a big fan of spirituality, in general, not the music group. I did like this album. Songs flowed together and the first song on the album has an interesting cannon.

Nice background music.

Reminds me of The Verge + Beatles. Cool use of orchestra and rock harmonica!

Floaty moments reminiscent of the Flaming Lips intersperse anthems defining that 90s/early 2000s guitar-band sound that I can't quite put my finger on.

I am a fan now

I'll admit, I really got into this. It's good background music, but I occasionally tuned in and enjoyed what I was listening to. Can't name many specific tracks, but loved the vibe and will probably be back. Very spacey. Favorite track: "Home of the Brave"

Great album. Title track and Electricity are must-haves, and the back half is appropriately druggy and fuzzy - perfect ending. Maybe a touch long.

This is.... Not my cup of tea, exactly. The cacophonies were at times hard to sit through, but I also enjoyed many songs. Not an album I'd frequently listen to, but one I respect. 7/10 F.T.: Cop shoot Cop...

I liked the overall sound of the album, was really well constructed, but i'm not sure if i would listen again cause is so sad. My favorite song probably was electricity, it sounded more psychodellic than the rest

1997. Key Songs: Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space. Broken Heart, I Think I'm in Love

Fuzzy heartbreaker of an album.... I love it.

Liked the first couple of songs, then it started to drag on. Broken Heart's into does feel like you're floating in space. Great pick me up song towards the end. That song and Ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space stood out. Cool album and band I've never heard of. 3.5/5

Better than I thought - I'll have to listen again

3.4 2x

Never listened to Spiritualised before today, but I'm quite enjoying this. An underlying cocktail of psychedelia, prog and space rock, and yet a vey 90's club sounding album. Guests include Dr John, BJ Cole and the LCGC.

2.5/5 Favorite Songs: Come Together I Think I'm In Love Electricity Broken Heart

Very smooth

Interesting listen bc it was different, but generally a little too spacey. Title track was my fave by far. Electricity a good rock out and music really pretty on Broken Heart.

The Individual

i really like the pharmaceutical imagery in this album. fitting for the emotional themes on the first half. instrumentally though i think it pops off in the back half. i'm not huge on Cop Shoot Cop but the ones before are atmospheric as hell. deserves to be one of the 1001? yea

Nothing too great nothing too bad.

6/10 Liked a good chunk of the vibes in this album

I listened to this and immediately forgot it.

I like a fair amount of Spiritualized but don't find enough hooks to ground me in space. I can't argue with the ambition or epic quality here. Great album title, too.

This was a new to me band and album. There were parts of it I really liked and parts that I just didn't get. It had a very "space-like" vibe to it. Lots of instruments and just lots going on. At times it was too much going on. The last song is 17 minutes long and a good portion of it just sounds like a lot of noise. I didn't mind it playing in the background while working, but I don't think I would seek out any specific songs to listen to again.

Uff I'm so happy I was sober when I turned this on! This is smooth, interesting, and very well-crafted - just not for my daily rotation.

I used to like this album a lot more but I do find it kind of excessive and cacophonous now. Electricity and the title track are great but I don’t think there’s much else good

Hmm a bit out there

Weird, sleepy sometimes, definitely spacey. Didn’t love but didn’t hate!

I went in with fairly low expectations, I'd already had an album from them that seemed up my alley but left me disappointed. Though here it started off really well I lost my goodwill as it went on, kinda pretentious.

Började toppenbra men tappade ordentligt i andra halvan

Härlig början men sen gick intresset fort ner.

Favorite Song: Ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space

nice vibe 17 mins for 1 song is crazy

amazing album title everything else was just mid

Interesting album with a mix of mind warping cacophony and gentle atmospheric pieces. I like it, but would probably not sit and listen to this album again. What I would like is for some of these songs to show up in a generated playlist.

I once had to carry a gong up a big ramp for Spiritualized and then they only used it once! I resent them for this and have marked this unfairly as a result. (It's actually decent)

The level of production is quite incredible and some of the tracks are outstanding, but there were a few times when I felt it got a little lost.

Favourite: broken heart Its okay but a bit weird

Early on, I could already tell that this was pretty overwrought and almost too grandiose. The production itself isn't necessarily a problem for me, everything just sounded almost too Britpop-y with some spaciness added in. Ultimately forgettable I felt.

This one doesn’t fit in any genre. It has a unique sound and style to it. The album starts off strong with a very spacey, almost psychedelic title track that uses counterpoint and interpolates Elvis Presley of all people; and also uses a very common chord progression that everyone knows (Pachelbel’s Canon). And it works really well. A bit on the repetitive side, but it doesn’t detract from the overall creative flow. I’ve never heard anything like this before and probably won’t again. This is truly a unique experience. Unfortunately too much droning for my taste. 3 stars, but totally worth the listen.

This was mostly alright, a little on the boring side. A 17 minute track is crazy, one of the longer songs I've heard.

I fought I’ll ever listen to it again but I didn’t hate it

I’ve heard a lot worse on this list.

Bonus point for Dr John.

An enjoyable mix of songs that flowed together nicely

Often trends towards boring.

Nice chill album for a quiet afternoon. I've listened once before. The Individual and Broken Heart are both good songs.

mood based album. I'm sure somedays this really hits the spot. Today was meh.

nice to know it

The packaging arrives as a prescription medication blister pack with the instruction “1 tablet 70 min” — an invitation to take the whole thing as a single immersive dose rather than a collection of songs. It’s either the most pretentious or most committed album concept of 1997 depending on your perspective, and the music inside takes that instruction seriously. Jason Pierce builds something genuinely atmospheric here — space rock, gospel, drone, and orchestral ambition layered into a record that asks for complete surrender. The gospel influences are present but submerged in texture rather than front and center, which means they register as color rather than conviction. “Broken Heart” in particular creates such a complete atmosphere of stillness and calm that it becomes genuinely nap-inducing — and not entirely in a bad way. There’s a real distinction between music that puts you to sleep because it’s boring and music that puts you to sleep because your nervous system simply lets go. This is closer to the latter. The problem is the same one that landed Lazer Guided Melodies at a 3 earlier in this project — the atmosphere is carefully constructed and occasionally beautiful, but it rarely asserts itself emotionally in a way that demands full attention and rewards it. Playing it in the background while working felt entirely appropriate, which is probably not what the prescription packaging intended. “Cop Shoot Cop,” the album’s seventeen-minute centerpiece, tested that patience further with a noise section that required editorial intervention — a reminder that commitment to atmosphere and commitment to the listener’s time are different things. Two Spiritualized records, two honest threes. Well crafted, occasionally lovely, and best experienced horizontal with nowhere urgent to be.

I see why this is called space rock. It felt like it was flying by in the distance.

I enjoyed this. Kind of soundscapey, kind of shoegazy, occasionally a little funky, kind of Stone Rosesy. This is a decent album that I had never heard before.

It grew on me as it went along. Spiritualized was bit too discordant sound for me. Still, I could listen to this album in the future to mix it up. I like “Stay with Me.” “Cop Shoot Cop…” but there’s no reason it had to be over 16 minutes long.

I was somewhat familiar with this seeing as it came out the year I graduated high school. There is a lot I like here and I feel this is one that would keep growing with more listens. Love that it popped up on this list to give me a fresh listen.

2.75. Weird in a way that I can appreciate, just not enough to listen again.

3.25 - Much better than the last album I listened to by this band.

chill vibe, a little too long overall for my taste

I'm frustrated that parts of this album suck so much, because the other parts are incredible. Such an incredible soundscape. It's too good to be a 2 I guess... But it sucks too much to be a 4. I pray that a more polished album by them exists - Wait 2nd song sucks and is completely different - 3rd song has a fun intro... where will this go? I like it! - This is a TOUGH one. Great highs, terrible lows. No way it's a 4, but does it deserve 2? - I'm frustrated that parts of this album suck so much, because the other parts are incredible. Such an incredible soundscape. It's too good to be a 2 I guess

I liked the first 3 tracks, felt the 4th track was a little too long, and then fell back into the groove until the last song which was just too much. If this album was all like the first two songs it would have been an all time classic.

Their actual genre is “Space Rock”? How could you possible know what rock sounds like in Space? It’s impossible to have any sounds! I guess psychedelic rock would be a better descriptor. The upbeat sections I found were good. They're pretty complex and there’s a lot going on with the instruments but it works. Particularly like the bass lines that ties it all down and provides the structure for the rest of the band. Definitely has some highlights and lowlights. Like what’s the deal with Cop Shoot Cop with the random section in the middle?

A decent crossover between ambient, indie, psychedelic and maybe some pop as well. Nothing really stands out, though there are a few good moments across the album.

Ecoutable

Started out as an oasis want to be ended with a psychedelic mind bend. Listened to it while cutting down tree limbs which heightened the experience. 6.75/10 Top song Ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space

Another solid album that reminds me of the Dandy Warhols (two days in a row for that vibe). Liked it front to back more or less, but found it forgettable.

Some songs were decent, others not so much. Liked the energy early, but the album started to lose me near the end. Really cool that Dr. John is on a song. 2.5/5 Probably won't listen again

I like Spiritualized. I had liked Spacemen 3 as well. I may never have got myself anywhere near as fucked up on any kind of drugs as anyone out of either of those bands, but I still get it. Luckily Spiritualized (both bands in fact) were/are capable of taking drugs to make music that doesn’t necessarily require the listener to take drugs to enjoy. While it’s reasonably well accepted that Jason reached the full realisation of his sound on this album, I personally was enjoying the ride more before he got there. My explanation is that I find the fullness of the sound here to be detrimental rather than beneficial to the sound he’d established on their first two albums. I understand how the strings and horns etc may help deliver the intensity of emotion being expressed, but to my ears the density of the arrangements become oppressive and I long for a little room for the songs to breathe. Of course there are occasional quieter moments and I’m genuinely not afraid of noise, but when the outcome sounds like a reel to demonstrate the effects of the mastering “loudness wars” of the early 2000s, I feel the need to call “too far” and “what about the dynamics?”. Thankfully the 1001 also includes Laser Guided Melodies so I’ll get to vote there in a manner that shows my love for the band. Here though, and it pains me to say it, I am, as is often the case, going to need to go against the grain and sore this criminally lowly.

I enjoyed it but I don’t have the motivation currently to explain why. The most recent Spiritualised album is really good, I can tell you that much. 3.5/5

Autoroute album. Tried to listen to it when it first came out but couldn't get in. This time it was more accessible, or I was more amenable, but still the kind of band you'd sit down at the gig for.

Forgot

already listened to it. i like it, unique sound. i'd consider it post-britpop but i don't think other people do

this was really familiar before i noticed it was by the same dude who made spaceman 3. pretty standard shoegaze album, its okay, may click better at other time

Drags on for a long time and doesn't do much to justify its runtime. But the good bits are very much here, especially the opening first few songs are exceptional. Just a bit of a tired listen otherwise sadly. 3/5.

Really hard to rate this one after a couple of listens. Feels like an album that will definitely grow on me over time. Love the sound on here. The electronic vibe really work on certain songs. Come Together and Electricity were the two stand out songs for me. However I do think there are a few filler songs too. Trim a few off this and it would be getting a higher rating

Depressing

Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space sounds lush, but drifts too long without strong variation or momentum.

Certainly weird. Not bad at all. And definitely interesting.

A really surprising listen, tonnes of influences from other artists and songs. This whole album feels like one big trip and journey, it gets really crazy towards the end, I need a few more listens to understand it better.. Their cover of come together is probably the most original one I've ever heard, how they split out the verses and choruses is really creative. All in all a great listen but nothing that blows me away, solid middle of the road.

A fine easy listening album that I enjoyed walking at night to. Couldn't hear parts of the album too well but it was overall fine.

It took me a few days to listen to this. It just didn't grab me, at first. That's a shame because there's some very good music in here. The emotional content comes very slowly but it is varied and interesting. It's a very slow-burn album. It does, however, remind me a little bit of Sigur Ros, which is a positive comparison for me. It's affecting. Anyway, by the end of it, I liked it. But I don't think I'll listen again. So 3/5? I guess?

It has its moments. Didn't hate it, didn't love it.

Nice psychadelic rock! No song grabbed me instantly though but I might to listen to thr album a few more times

I will say, this was significantly better than their other album on this list. I still didn’t love it, but it had some real highlights. The title track and “Broken Heart” were phenomenal, and there were parts of “Cop Shoot Cop…” that I liked a lot, though it really lost me during the middle portion. The rest of the album was alright. Nothing offensive, but nothing I particularly want to revisit either.

New listen-entertaining

I grew into this. I’m not sure “space rock” is a genre, but this was very listenable

Some of these songs are really good. The first one got on my nerves but the rest of the record started to settle in. I might listen again to hear the songs that I liked. I probably would not get a physical copy. This one is just all over the place. The structured songs are great,I just feel like there’s too much filler. It’s like going to a restaurant that has several cuisine options. It feels like there’s no identity. I’ll put it slightly better than The Black Album.

1997. Interesting sampling and soundscape of space. Calm and fun. English psych rock.

Wasn’t too bad of a listen and that’s about all I got for this one

Interesting... I mean they really went all out. I will say I'm glad to have listened to this, like this is truly out there. First track is really awesome, the rest didn't stick out.

Meh, its not the great thing

Not too shabby

Fumoso, astratto e un po' noioso

Some good songs but nothing stand-out

Kind of easy and safe ethereal music that is more about giving a vague sense of spirituality than creating great music. These sounds more like soundscapes and emotional tones than a band with distinct tracks and singles.

I really enjoy the textures and tones on this album. No tracks jumped out at me, so it a fairly balanced album. Over all I didn't love it and I didn't hate it.

Some great parts but some filler. It got better as it went on

Hmm, this should have been better.

This one was hard to rate. Some of the songs are enjoyable. Some are fine... until about halfway through when they just become a noise generator (The Individual). Some of the songs I really just didn't like at all (Cool Waves). This album also has one of the longest songs I've run into (17:01) and it's not bad.

Is this the Gorillaz? Has a very Gorillaz vibe to it. This might be an inspiration for the Gorillaz. 6/10

I was sorely disappointed with everything after the title track

I don't know how to feel about this. It's very rich and interesting but is a bit harsh on the ears at times. Very mixed feelings between 3 and 4. Broken Heart is a beautiful track.

I liked the production and arrangements but too much of the album sounded unremarkable

The first track set my hopes high for this to be some quirky, spacey, ethereal album but then it just kinda turned into a rock album with some gimmicky effects. Some interesting moments but not enough to warrant being longer than an hour

Feels like I’m floating in space. Amazing transition between songs 2-3. And 6-7🫴🫳 And I guess more of them than I’m going to liste but odd how it’s not all of them… The lowest possible 3 you could imagine.

Interesting sound.

Was a solid four before the last song. I ain’t listening to all that. Happy for u tho, or sorry that happened

I expected to like this a lot more than I did

The answer to Jimmy's question is a resounding no
