Interesting

It's a really long album. When the music is good, I usually don't mind a long album...but this was really long. Did I mention how long it was? One good song, 1979. The rest are relatively forgettable after a few listens... It isn't bad...just too long. :) 3/5

A lot of people think this is their best album. I just direct them to Siamese Dream. There’s a lot of songs on here. Some hits, some not. The ones that aren’t hits can be really meandering. Either way, this is some good 90s alt rock.

3.6 kinda fell off after 1979

Too much filler.

this album has enough good songs to be a 4/5 it's too damn long and unorganized and the love songs suck. at times i was genuinely emotionally moved (to forgive, 1979 is still THE song), other times it went hard af (zero, bullet with butterfly wings).

Instrumentally fantastic. Billy Corgan is an incredibly polarizing vocalist, one which I can only handle in small doses. I can listen to a song or two of Smashing Pumpkins and be done, so it’s hard to rate this album any higher than a 3.

Siamese Dream couldn't be on this list? It had to be the 2 hour album? Anyway ... Haven't listened to this album in at least 25 years, so this was kind it a trip. Holds up surprisingly well, though it definitely could've been trimmed down a little bit (why does "Beautiful" need to be on here?). Would be 3.5 stars if I was allowed to give half stars.

Schizophrenia

An eclectic mix of 90s rock sounds. Sometimes it's generic 90s rock, sometimes it sounds grungy, sometimes it sounds like proto-pop punk, sometimes it goes into nu-metal. It's always pretty interesting. I like that Billy Corrigan doesn't have what you'd call a traditionally "good" singing voice. But that doesn't stop him! He hits all the right notes, and he sings with confidence, and that more than makes up for having such an odd timber. But for the love of god why is it over two hours??!? This should truly be a 3.5 or even slightly higher, but compared to my last few days of excellent albums, I really cannot round up to the 4. Plus I refuse to give such a long album a pass!

3.6 + Ugh, I've had a love/hate relationship with this record since it came out. SP was my first love, and I fell hard for their "Siamese Dream" sound, that blend of neo-psychedelia, chamber/dream rock that was swirling with loving flourescence. Billy Corgan was a long-haired flower child with a breathy, angelic voice tinged with just enough acrid edge. With "Mellon Collie", Corgan became a bald-headed vampire and the music took a much darker and uglier turn. Almost thirty years later, my opinion is still tinged by a sense of disappointment. I still think much of this record isn't very good. Some songs should have never left Corgan's notebook ("We Only Come Out At Night"). Others would've better served alongside a vast catalog of B-sides ("Galapagos"). And of the hundreds of times I've listened to this record, I've probably listened to "Tales of a Scorched Earth" all of three times (still sucks). Despite all of this, I admire Corgan and the Pumpkins for pulling off what felt like a coup at the time, a true flex on all their haters. The amount of music and the breadth of genres here is truly staggering. To pull this all off, they underwent some months of brutally intense, assembly-line recording sessions. Looking back, I wonder if Corgan miscalculated. Being on top of the world, I can understand an ambition to maintain one's eminence. But given the band's impending implosion shortly following the recording and promoting of this record, it's clear that that unchecked ambition destroyed what could've been a gentler dally with fame. What could've been if they had focused on the 13 good songs on here, and worked them over obsessively as they had on "Siamese Dream"?

Could be phenomenal with a bit of quality control and a single album

This album is very long. The Pope is Catholic. It's good music, but my ADHD brain absolutely refuses to pay attention to a single piece of media (music or otherwise) for 2 hours straight. You could cut this album down so much, because it's so insanely bloated that even The White Album is quaking in its boots. The entire second disc is just the first disc again with different lyrics. Good thing the first disc is so great, otherwise this would have been completely unbearable. Quick! Name any lyric from the song "Stumbleine"! Okay what about "The Two Of Us"? ... Jokes on you, that's a Suede song and not on this album! "Tonight, Tonight", "Bullet With Butterfly Wings", "Jellybelly" and "Zero" are the obvious highlights and they're all in the first 20 minutes. Then Billy Corgan rambles about dropping his sandwich into a sewer drain for an hour or something while doing his iconic "yelling but also trying to not wake up your parents" voice and the next big hit is "1979" and you can officially turn the album off, because no new ideas occur after that point. Has anybody ever said that this album is really long before? I feel like an innovator here, truly full of new ideas and funny quips. My body is ready for "69 Love Songs". Lay it on me.

An excess of filler and hubristic ambition overweight proceedings here, as the title alone tips off. The quiet-loud dynamic reaches its breaking point here. There is overreaching on both ends of the spectrum – too much rage/fury too quickly contrasted with too much cloying/lullaby-ness leads to unevenness in extremis. When they are well balanced ("Tonight Tonight," "By Starlight") the sweeter/slower/more melodious cuts are vastly superior to the metallic posturings and faux Nine Inch Nonsense. A skilled melodist, Billy C is an overrated lyricist; "despite all my rage/I'm still just a rat in a cage" is high-school literary magazine territory, hooky and rage-y as it is. And the record is overlong, too. Yes, there's a lot to like, but also a lot to overlook -- so much on both sides of that ledger equates to much too much overall.

Having only one day with this album was tough. It’s soo long. There are definitely a few good songs on here but I think lots of it could have been cut or this could have been two or three different albums. The vocals sounded really low in the mix which I found interesting. Almost like he was trying to hide. I feel bad only giving it a 3 without feeling like I gave it a full chance but I also don’t really feel any desire to hear any of it again asides from 1979.

some good songs but way too long

Some of my favorite songs ever are on this album. But there are like 15 other songs that kind of suck. How do I balance that? Ugg

There are some great songs on here, but it’s too bloated. Edit it down and you might get a solid five star

You mean all four songs I really love from the Smashing Pumpkins are all on one magical album? Neat! Oh, wait, you mean this is basically like listening to three whole albums in a row that have about one hit each? Hmmm. There's a lot of nineties rage to get through. "Tales of a Scorched Earth" nearly made me give up, but I was happy to get to the autoharp on "We Only Come Out at Night". I do appreciate and like the varied styles in this, especially regarding said hits, which each sound very different from each other. Billy Corgan has an awesome, distinctive voice, but by the end I'd quite had enough.

I Verdena.

- Don't think I've listened to a full Smashing Pumpkins album before - Enjoyed it, but it's WAY too long - Would probably rate it higher and be more likely to listen again if it was half the length - Fav songs: Porcelina of the Vast Oceans, Thirty-Three; Tonight, Tonight

I found this much better than I expected. 1979 is one of the great songs of all time but I am a bit meh about the rest of their singles. This thought had a surprising tone - some really good songs.

not a fan of the lead singer voice still the calmer songs and instrumental songs (which there are a few) are decent though 3.5

Vaikea löytää edes muutamaa suosikkia, joten löysin kaksi: Tonight, Tonight ja Thirty-Three.

Feels like a 2 hour long song, its not bad it just gets mind-numbing less than half way through

Never was a big Smashing Pumpkins guy, but the bloat on this album lessons the impact overall compared to the leaner Siamese Dream. Instead, this is the album where Billy Corgan's massive ego went on full display. Jimmy Chamberlin shows you why he is such a highly regarded drummer, but who needs multiple 7+ minute grinding grunge dirges?

decent

If the album was only 14 songs it would be a much higher score. Second half was repetitive, but I’ve gotta give it up for 1979.

I could see why someone else might like it. It's punchy and rythmic, strong hooks, coherent mood but just not for me I don't think. Sounds pretty dreadful on my brother's car stereo too which doesn't help. Just seems sort of relentlessly one dimensional despite being competent and tuneful. I dunno. Okay.

As with many double albums, there's a great single album here once you get rid of the filler.

I don't hate the Smashing Pumpkins but I was not the biggest supporter either...there are some great tracks and if this album was smushed down into one, or smashed down into one album if you will...This would be one of the greats of all times. (I know some already think that.)

Husker at jeg hørte en del på denne for ca 15 år siden. Flere tøffe riff, men vokalen er ganske enerverende. Sikkert «bra», men ikke helt min greie.

The hits are good. The rest is not.

3/5 Reminds me of Violent Soho with more substance.

So far loike the instrumental track more than anything else. Nothing much standing out. Tracks I like - Ode to Noone, Galapogos

Da e jo lyttbart, men alt for langt. Seriøst, ka e poenget med dobbel-CD

took me two full days to listen to, i kept getting bored and moving on. like the white album, i dont think an album this long can ever be _great_, because there’s bound to be some stinkers on there. this had some good songs and some bad, but if it was half the length with only the good songs it would be so much better

By cutting out a little over half of these songs the Smashing Pumpkins might have had a great album, there are just so many misses here. Just build it around "Thirty-Three," "Porcelina of the Vast Oceans" and "By Starlight" and it's their second (or third) great album of new material in a row. As it is a lot of it is a slog to get through. I'm pretty sure I've only ever listened to this front to back one other time and I probably won't ever again, I'd rather listen to "Siamese Dream" or "Gish" or even "Pisces Iscariot."

Way, wayyy too long for its own good. Billy must have thought he was a genius after Siamese Dream because he went all in and did a two-hour album about... I don't know about what. Now, I think this album has a lot of great songs. The singles are incredible and shows Billy's talent (see what I did there) for writing engaging songs. Their mix of alternative rock, dream pop and heavy metal is rather bold, especially considering it was rather uncool to be this pompous and metallic at that time. When the magic sticks, this album becomes one of the best of its era. But it's two hour long. Of course there's gonna be fillers. And while there are no really bad moments to be found, there's plenty of unremarkable songs though. Which makes me wonder why Billy thought it was a great idea to put out an album this long. For that reason, I prefer Siamese Dream (and even Adore), but there's no denying this is one of the most iconic alternative rock album of the 90's.

Waaaaay too long. There's certainly some hits, but a lot of miss too. I understand why and how this is a critically acclaimed album, but I never want to go through it again

I'll do a short critic, cause I dont have time left now that've listen to this 2hours album. Couple hits, nice vibe - but way too long and unequal.

It's hard to rate this album well. It's a major record of the 90s, the intention behind it, to make a concept album so long at that time... It's spectacular and quite off-track. However, I don't know if in the end, it is totally successful. There are a lot of unmemorable songs. I feel that it could have been an excellent album of about forty minutes, since there are also plenty of good tracks like Tonight Tonight, To Forgive, Cupid De Locke, Where Boys Fear To Tread, 1979, By Starlight... The concept is very good, but extended over two CDs, it's too much, sorry.

I honestly want to give this more stars but the singers voice is wretched and the melody behind it is boring. Some decent songs but I couldn’t wait for this album to end.

Great album! (Silly title)

Never got into them, always found them a bit pretentious and try hard. Some songs are okay - I suppose, wouldn't turn them off if they came on the radio but eh. Overrated.

I love Gish and Siamese Dream but this album.. I've always been disappointed by it. A few songs are ok but overall it's not very good.

Früher 4. Jetzt eher 3.

Its a good album but overly long as it seems to repeat itself the longer it goes. The high lights are very high... Tonight tonight is a great song. Ultimately I had difficulty digesting it all in one sitting 3 🌟

Always good to revisit this once in a while. It’s not their best work and it’s definitely bloated, but their ambition is realized in this collection that’s daunting for anyone who isn’t a Pumpkins fan. It’s a rewarding listen despite its overbearing presence, the singles hold up and are well-placed. I’d say it could use some editing, but two hours of this shit really sums up where this band was, egotistically, in the 90s. 3.5

It's 6 hours long, I'm not gonna lie it all started blurring at one point. There's everything here. Harder rock and more indie sound. Probably some goodies to save, but I started giving up around the 3rd disc. One to revisit I think. Few songs per day haha

Maybe his voice would grow on me - but I doubt it. Bill (2/5) Little heavy sometimes. Like their sound. Shannah (3/5) Brilliantly balanced album with some of the best riffs going. Almost perfect.(4.5/5)

this album is too long but it does have a lot of bangers

This album is so deeply 90s. I find it hard to dislike, but there are no songs on it that weren't on the radio that I really like. The idea that this was whittled down from 60 songs seems crazy. There are several more I would've cut, but maybe if I gave it a super close listen, I'd change my mind. Regardless, there are six pretty great songs here and they're spread out enough that the filler-ish songs don't hurt you. 'Bodies' is probably the best of the lesser-known songs? But it is also maybe the most performatively sad of them all. I mean - love is suicide. Sheesh. Sidenote - around the time this came out I had a friend I made music with and we had the idea of doing an original Christmas album by a band called Bring Cosby and the name of the album would be Bells and Holly and the Infinite Santas. That was the best part of the idea and that was as far as it went. Maybe some day.

It was ok but did not set my world on fire.

Over-ambitious scope. 2 hours and nearly 30 songs is huge. I'd prefer half the songs and more than half the running time please! Good variety of rock and pretty songs. The singles cover the variety. Would have been as good as Siamese Dream if paired down to 12 song.

Exciting album from the 90's with several hits. A bit fluttering in style and too long for my taste.

Decent. Too long to finish. The slower the better.

The more alt-rock style songs vibe with me, the more hard-rock / metal songs I could do without.

I assumed I'd give up on this thing's egregious length but muscled through the whole thing. Another album cemented in my mind by the dominating video presence of Tonight Tonight. I like a lot of what the band did musically but I really don't care for Corgan's singing and his lyrics are a particularly disagreeable blend of self-pitying, self-indulgent, and self-important.

* really enjoyed it, would listen again

Was something different

Take me down). 3/5.

Every double album automatically loses a star straight away. It's a shame as they were obviously very productive at the time and there's loads of great riffs and some very good songs. Just too long and a lot more whiny than Siamese Dream the shorter better album before this.

not as bad as i was expecting considering i don't like billys noncey voice but 2 hours. fucking hell have a word.

To me melancholy and infinite sadness are the times when I'm not getting completely and utterly drenched in the jizz of the entire Chelsea first team and backroom staff. It's been a tough 3 weeks now without being covered head to toe in the jizz of the entire Chelsea first team and backroom staff and I'm gasping for it. I can barely picture Glenn Hoddle cumming on my back. I need it right now!

Mellon Collie and the Infinitely Long Album, am I right? Behave yourself Corgan, you're from the punk generation, you're not in Yes. I do really like most of this album but it just goes on far too long. Far, far too long. No one ever needs to make a double concept album, ever. It's a shame because the singles here are some of the best songs of the 90s. If they'd shaved about four and a half hours off the running time this could have been one of my all time favs.

Very of its time: pained grunge vocals with grand strings, melodramatic songs. I love they way they have all-out gone for it. Very good songwriting and production, this album absolutely deserves its place in rock history.

Struggled with this one. The music is pretty great, honestly. The lyrics and all that are fine, pretty standard "angry/depressed adolescent" fare. Some I really enjoyed. Others were just fine. Honestly, I really don't love Billy's vocal styling, and if anything was "just fine" it was likely because it featured vocals over music or just had a "meh" musicality.

eh, this album was decent but just not really my thing. the vocals are definitely unique, it doesn't completely put me off because it kind of works but it is kinda weird. I don't have any attachment to it so it wasn't that special to me, but it was decent!

Hit and miss, with some really great songs and a few that are over-indulgent. Very much of its time, shows great range in the band, but when it comes down to it I'd rather listen to Siamese Dream.

Wow, I thought a two-hour runtime was self-indulgent, until I discovered there’s a SIX hour edition. Girl, bye. Standouts here are: • Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (title track) • 1979 • Beautiful • Lily (My One and Only) • Farewell and Goodnight

I dig a few songs but as an album it seems to drag.

Plenty of good songs but way way too long. Songs in the middle blur together. 6/10

In HS, like many others, I liked The Smashing Pumpkins. In retrospect it's just above-average for me. I waver between a 3.5 and a 3. I think Siamese Dream might be better but not sure, maybe it'll come up in the list.

Did not need to be a double album. Highlight tracks: 2, 6, 8, 5(D2)

Some nice grunge, but 2 hours is a lot even if it is good. will revisit it again at some point.

Another album that I am familiar with but never really sat down to listen to. Decent but can't see myself listening to it often.

It's OK - some good riffs and tunes but I'll never listen to it or them again.

This album has a lot of nostalgia for me, which is interesting since I never owned it. Buying a double disc like this was like $33 in 1995! But despite never actually having the album, I know it well. It brought back a lot of surprisingly positive vibes from my 6th and 7th grade years. The thing is that I couldn’t make it through the album listening now. Just too long. The Spotify “Deluxe” version seemed to have 50 tracks. “Thirty Three” was the standout in what I listened to.

I remember not owning this as a kid and that I felt like I was the only person I knew that didn't have it. I remember thinking it was just okay outside of the hits and I still feel that way 25 years later. I really liked some of the songs and I kind of hated some of the songs. Overall I just don't love the way that Billy Corrigan sounds.

2.8 - a big blast of nostalgia here. Some great tunes like 33, Tonight Tonight and even a few others that didn’t make singles. Just a little too epic at times for my tastes. Enjoyed it more for the flashback than the music. It’s been years since I listened to this and likely will be a number more before I do again.

Good but way too long

I enjoyed most of this, but would have been fine with it being about half the length.

Didn't age as well as I thought it would have. Other than the song I remembered (Vampire), none of the others were familiar to me. Sounded...bad...on the car stereo. Maybe a listen in a better environment would be different; but the 90s quality stereo in the Rav4 should be just right for this given the era....

Listened and enjoyed

Despite liking the Pumpkins, despite my roommate playing this album a lot when it first came out, I never really liked it that much. Another listen didn't change my mind. I don't have the attention span for it. What a great single album it would have made, instead it's a double filled with many boring and uninteresting songs. The hits are great, I love Bullet with Butterfly Wings and 1979, but it's not worth a 2 hour listen. I'd rather listen to Siamese Dream.

Struggling with feelings is never fun. Does listening to a whole double album which reflects those feelings help or hinder? I respect Corgan's self expression and the ambition of this project but I kind of wish he would lighten up. Send some hope (maybe on a deeper dive I would find it but I couldn't devote that much time to a 2hr+ album!). On this album, the hits are terrific - the orchestration on Tonight, Tonight is simply stunning and keeps the track pulsing with energy and verve - and some album tracks stand out - Cupid de Locke, for instance - as charming highlights. Overall, though, this isn't a project which thrills me - sometimes the sentiment, sometimes the length, sometimes the cynicism in me seeing a band wrap up teenage angst for mass consumption (possibly unfair) - one to respect, rather than love.

I'm a SP fan, but even when this was released, I found it somewhat disappointing relative to Gish and Siamese Dream. Years on, I feel even less enthusiastic about it, as the lyrics come off as written for a much much younger and angsty person than I am. The sound and production are impressive though.

No matter how hard they try to rock I think the best they can do for me is a 2.8. Never have I reached for this album and I never will

Good tunes, but really, really long. I might love this album after a few more listens, but those listens probably won't come for a while.

Actually a lot of variety in this album. Some noisy mid-90s hard rock, but a ton of different moods and sounds.

Overall not bad but too long and too much of a mix of styles without excelling at any of them and no song really sticking out

Many great songs and many so-so songs. This album could have used an editor.

No Rain is very strong.

Smashing.

It’s fine, just too fucking long.

I know this album! 1979 is a bop

Was never really a fan.

It had a lot of great songs, but it just is far too long for what it offers. The vocals, though good, can be a bit much for me after about an hour of listening. Definitely more good than bad though.

I admire bands that take on ambitious projects, and this is certainly ambitious. 2 hours of music with a good variety of styles. I'm not a fan of Billy Corgan's voice, and some of the harder stuff I can't stand, but overall this is pretty good. 3 stars.

some pleasant gems here but this double album overstays its welcome. Strong preference for the 1st disc here. some fun genre-bending fakeouts

Have always found this to be at the proggy end of rock for my tastes but I gave it a chance and found it interesting (and Rockier than i imagined) if a little bloated. not sure I'll rush back but a decent piece of work and can see why others may adore it. 3/5

Instead of releasing an amazing album and a completely shitty album, The Smashing Pumpkins decided to release both of them together. There are some truly great tracks on this album like Muzzle, Porcelina, Thirty-Three and yes, 1979. But there are also some meh tracks like Cupid and Galapagos that would've been just fine to be B-sides. Then, there's the terrible, awful no good tracks like Butterfly Wings and Zero, Come Out @ Night, etc. Siamese Dream and Gish were so good, amazing even. But, this album seems to have targeted the LCD in music trends at the time and went for broke and it worked. They sold 11 million copies. But they also lost a fan with the release of Mellon Collie. Then, nearly 30 years later that feeling was solidified when I saw them tour with Janes Addiction (who were amazing) in '23. Corgan was pretty lame in his snuggie cape thing he was wearing. I really didn't think he was a freak until he tried to be one.

Its a good album but overly long as it seems to repeat itself the longer it goes. The high lights are very high... Tonight tonight is a great song. Ultimately I had difficulty digesting it all in one sitting

It wasn't awful. However, after the first disk I got a bit tired of it. I'm not the biggest fan of this sound, and they put their best two songs in the front. However, I really liked the piano in the songs it was in. Favorite track: Tonight, Tonight

Really liked some of the songs and enjoyed the majority of them. However some songs I could live without hearing. I think it would’ve been better as a single album rather then double and so there wouldn’t be as much, or any filler songs. (3.5)

Overall interesting more instrumental than I expected.

A bit more underwhelming than I remember it being originally when it came out, but still solidly good!

Okay album.

The instrumental at the start is amazing! I loved it! But then it gets worse. There's a few good songs, but most of them were unlistenable for me. I'm only giving it a 3 because of that first song.

The Smashing Pumpkins best album, including a few of their most popular songs! It's crazy to think that this album is certified diamond. This album is huge with 28 songs and they all fit the vibe of youthful problems. This album helped pass the time during my workday, but it could also be played during a night of partying.

Too long. But pretty decent. Would I listen to it again? Not sure. His voice is quite annoying. I can't remember why I was so against this album. But reminded me of Jordan (?) in Virginia.

Yeah this is a good album

Liked their music

Infinite

Want to like this album, and there's some great tracks, but also a lot of filler

Wasn’t into them at the time, don’t feel like I missed out. Some nice tracks tho.

Why is the album cover so familiar ? I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. ***

Good but it drags on a tad.

Hit and miss. The good was very good though.

This is more like my kind of sound. I still don't feel it completely. I can only remember Bullet With Butterfly Winds, which I really like. I should listen to them again: I think I can find interesting stuff from these guys.

More of a chore than I remembered

Good, solid 3.5

A lot of good usage of distortion effects throughout and certainly a very distinctive voice that lends itself well to the music. Not quite what I was expecting going in but all around ok.

Eh. same review I had in highschool. It's a bit long and whiney. I'm more of a Siamese Dream fan :) I rediscovered Muzzle on this listen, which is my standout track <3

Good album, good band... The vocals never sounded good enough for me... But it's growing on me. I'll give Smashing pumpkins another try ☺️

Way too long. Take the best tracks and turn it into 45 minutes and it's easily a 4/5 album, even if his voice is a bit annoying.

reminds me of my old mp3

It was fine, but it was very long, and it kept getting more and more "heavy" towards the end.

1979 was OK, but not such a fan tb

There are some really amazing tracks on this album- I love zero, tonight tonight and 1979 but this album is long and it has a depressing feel to it which means I had to listen to it in 4 sittings. The tracks can go for 6-10 minutes sometimes so that took the score down a little

Great songwriting, although I'm not sure it had to be as long as it was. As with most double albums, it could have been cut down. I also didn't like the guitar sound. The heavier moments didn't have that visceral punch that the best albums of the era had - Superunknown, Nevermind, Badmotorfinger etc. For this reason, the ballads worked better.

It's fine but annoying at points

Interesting, but too hard rock on the border of metal

Not as bad as contemporary reviews made it out to be. It's a little bloated, but there are definitely more than one cd's worth of good tracks here. "1979" and "Tonight, Tonight" are worth the price of admission alone.

Pretty good. Too american/thrashy rock for my taste.

Zero is a filthy banger.

I have this cd.

I quite liked this. A bit long and a little repetitive but I like that kind of music so that was okay.

A great album, but a bit long for me. I'm not the biggest fan of Corgan's voice, but the mix of genres and styles is interesting. In my reading about the album, apparently he Corgan runs some wrestling company. Fun fact I guess.

I do enjoy the Smashing Pumpkins; just don't love this album as much as Gish or Siamese Dream.

Smashing Pumpkins are “cool guy” music in my brain, even if they haven’t really been relevant in a while. The big singles off this album were on the compilation record I had as a kid, and I’ve played them over and over again ever since.

Lekker rocky, aparte lead vocal.

A little on the long side

Well, that was sure a journey. First thing's first: I don't hate this album, but I don't love it either. You can tell a ton of work has been put into the creation of the 28 songs bestowed upon us, but it's painfully obvious that the quality of these 28 tracks varies heavily. Side 1 is nothing short of phenomenal. Atmosphere and diversity is superb, not to mention the musical prowess on display is unmatched in all albums of the era. Of the 14 songs there was only one I had a strong distaste for (Love) whereas the other 13 were stellar amalgamations of grunge, symphonic rock and alt rock sown together into an exquisite tapestry. Side 2 on the other hand is an utter disappointment and a horrible journey through all the worst cliches 90s music has to offer. The distortion is there and it's worse than ever. The gentler cuts sound banal and laughably stupid. This isn't to say there aren't highlights but the lowlights outweigh them and that's something I didn't want to happen, even more so after the appraisal I gave Side 1. Highlights are few and far between but are as follows: Thirty-Three, 1979, Thru the Eyes of Ruby, Stumbleine. THAT IS IT. Of the 14 tracks these were the only ones that in any way, shape or form brought me satisfaction. I want to tell myself I'm being too harsh on this, but I really don't think I am. It's almost as if an entirely new band recorded the other 14 tracks. The quality and solidity of the tracks took an ugly nosedive almost right from the get-go and I really can't say I would ever listen to it again. If Side 1 was a gorgeous tapestry, then Side 2 is an ugly snot-entwined piece of off-white pieces of garbled chewed up rope. This album sure is a tale of two halves. I'm torn. On the one hand I seriously admire and adore the first side's masterful blend of genres and artful diversity on display. But on the other hand I outright despise the lack of effort and beauty on Side 2. I thought this would be higher than an average 5, but I just can't bring myself to increase the score. It's sad but ultimately not that hard of a decision. 5/10

This is an album that I wish I had half-stars for. This is almost a 4 star album. And, if I listened on a different day, in a different mood, it would probably be a 4 star.

Very long but a few good songs

Some bops but the Spotify version is six fucking hours long lmao

I listened to this once in the 1990s and again today. That’s 4 hours of listening I could have spent on something that elicits more than a perplexed shrug. Interestingly, an album produced and cowritten by Billy Corgan — Hole’s CELEBRITY SKIN — is one of my favorite albums.

There are very rare cases where albums justify being over two hours. This is not one of them. It’s not even like a lot of it was trying different things. Just a bunch of muddled, grungy 90s rock with a singer that grated on my soul after 2 hours. There are some decent tracks in here surrounded by a whole lot of bleh. Even the more well-known tracks are not that good.

This album is way too long and convoluted for there to be just a few songs that I like on it. I can see the vision, but it isn't my kind of music.

i liked playing these guys on rock band, i can respect the musicianship here, but 28 songs is way too much for an album and they don't earn that length at all. white noise muzak

1995. p756. 2 stars. Tedious 90s alt rock. It's a double album of limited ideas and filler tunes, so points immediately deducted. And the vocalist sounds like a constipated weasel. 2+ hours of my life I will never get back. Pass.

Other than Bullet with Butterfly Wings not my thing.

It’s too long! Also someone in another review said the singer sounded like Cartman from South Park and I couldn’t unhear it.

A bit lawwwwng and I thought the mixing was a bit dirty.

Seems like everyone had a copy of this album lying around in their car back in the 90’s. And like the smell of hot upholstery, it’s almost nostalgia-inducing, but not quite. This may be the most middling band in history. I can’t bring myself to hate them, but I don’t like them either. They’re just kinda there, sitting between an almost empty lighter and a dog-eared road map.

Didn’t judge their music by the album cover but the rating would have been the same

it was fine, after Tonight, Tonight, I thought I’d love the album and then every song after that was either grossly grunge or just forgettable (except for That One Song) so IDK! Maybe I need to relisten sometime (but also, some of the worst people I know have that one Target shirt w this album cover on it. maybe that’s a part of it)

one truly great song on here and it takes over an hour to get to it. fuck this shit

Didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it as much as Siamese Dream, which was two stars for me. Does it rate three? Hmm. I’m not sure it quite gets there. Two hours was a bit much.

Liked the SP, liked angsty heavy rock then 1 day was a day older and just didn't and haven't since. Can kind of intellectually see this, album though if it had been a snappier run time would have been easier, 2 hrs ( too long for anyone would i like my favourite albums if they were 2 hrs long, not sure), it's just an emotional turn-off, it's almost endless, don'tmind him as a vocalist but 2 hrs of his raging about whatever, for me is well beyond too much. Nothing else to really add, there are bits, songs I like but it all became a total non engaged chore, 2 Stars

Good lord this was painful. +1 stars for Billy Corgan keeping the NWA alive.

interesting but not my kind of music

Damn, there are some good moments here! But then the wrestler opens his mouth, and it all goes to shit.

... Another Pumpkins record and my review for the last still stands. Tonight tonight may be one of the best rock songs ever written, but a few hits a good album does not make. I like this band, I don't love them. Their albums are self indulgent and bloated. They are in the same bracket as Queen, good songs, annoying albums.

Kinda emo so far... im sure it really speaks to teenagers. too long, i don't get the hype

- thoughts so far are that I really like the instrumentation but that the vocals aren’t my favorite

Album 193. Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness — The Smashing Pumpkins (1995) Oh nooooooo, 2 hours of this. I can't stand it. It's a nightmare. Still disturbing background noise, but cohesive with some good songs. 2/5 Liked: — Tonight, Tonight — Bullet With Butterfly Wings — 1979

This was a huge album in the late '90s. I recall it being eagerly awaited by their fans. I like the singles, but I don't think I ever heard the whole thing through before. It's good, and it very much evokes a particular time for me. "Despite all my rage, I am still just a rat in a cage!"

Overly long and very boring. Once you get past the hits it's unbearable.

not my personal cup of tea but i can def tell this is iconic

Long with lots of skips - sorry mellon. guitar tones are pretty boss though

It's cool if he wants to do this kind of thing behind closed doors, but this is really none of my business.

2 stars for the 2 hours of this I’m not listening to

The pitchfork review calls it an album "only teenagers could love" and maybe I would have loved it if I'd first heard it years ago but I'm now neither a teenager nor a Smashing Pumpkins fan. I enjoy the songs where they do something different but I can't tell if I actually like them or just want a break from the rest of album... It felt like an achievement to have made it to the end- I don't think that's how listening to an album should feel. Favourite song: Cupid De Locke Least: Tales Of A Scorched Earth

Toneieieieieieight. 2 uur lang die zeikstem

not a bit of me

TT better than I remembered, lovely outro into JellyBelly, Billy's voice still kinda annoying me but I love those chords out of chorus. Very lovely strings, very epic opening. Jelly Belly is the kind of pumpkins I hate, mindlessly thrashy, Billy's whiney twang just doesn't suit heavier material for me. Some great little progressions in between large swathes of messy 4 chord guitar sections. Good solo. Also could be my speakers, but this sounds MUDDDDYYYY. Likely intentional but still. Zero is a classic, fucking love those harmonics and will forever. However jesus I didn't realise how much of the problem I had with the pumpkins was Billy's dumb fucking voice. Here is no why, forgettable instantly. BWBF is a ripper, no surprises there, Billy ends up with a bit of edge in this one. To forgive and Ode to No One, to be honest, spaced out on these ones, I was too busy googling fucked up stories of Billy during the late 2000s when it seemed to be his mission to ruin every tour he went on. Funny stuff. Came back for Love, a pseudo-electronic nu-punk thing, kinda slams in the verses, well mixed, surprised by this one. Billy needs more processing on other tracks, I think half the time the problem is his voice is just floating over the top of a lot of low and low-middle end in these tracks and it's just all you can hear. Cupid de Locke immediately a breath of fresh air with some pretty strings. Galapogos is a nice song, softer, slower, art rock stuff just suits Billy better, the guitar gets to shine, can hear more rhythm in the bass. Muzzle, another song that sounds exactly like every other song, soft, loud, soft. Porcelina, cool guitar sound in the chorus, I literally cannot stop thinking about Billy's voice once again, how little it fits. take me down my fav song I didn't already know, obviously beach boys or generally 60s pop inspired, it's pleasant, especially after approximately 50 minutes of 90s guitar driven art rock, I would expect more variety from a self proclaimed concept album, let alone one inspired by the White Album. 1979 is a song for me that is incredibly overplayed, but came as a breath of fresh aire after an hour and 20 of stuff I was just not interested in. Tales of a Scorched Earth not bad. Thru the Eyes of Ruby genuinely I think one of my fav songs on the album, clean, classic rock, great riff with some cool very 70s psychedelia stuff going on, Billy is reasonably mixed with some backup singing to help him out, i also actually don't mind it's length. It's a shame this is such a negative review, I don't like not liking things, I just expected such an acclaimed record to offer me more than the 4 singles I already knew. A couple of very pretty transitional and interlude songs in there I liked a lot, but for the most part I think this album is, for one, PAINFULLY long, Billy and the producers should be shot after including 2 hours of music on this record. There's a very good reason not many bands do, if this record had ended on 1979 I would have walked away going "Not bad!" but instead I'm subjected to another 45 minutes of torturous nothings narrated by one of my least favourite voices in 90's alternative rock. I think a huge part of this listen was expectations, for such critical success, I just really don't see the big deal. I have read a lot about the commercialisation of the music industry and music journalism reaching it's height around this time being a reason, hipsters casting into the ever receding tides of 90s popular music trying to reel in something meaningful, large, poetic, and reeling in something, indeed large, gargantuan, but inedbile. There is just no helping feeling that 2 thirds of the album could be cut and the album would be much better.

Saw the Artist. Expected the worse, Got a little below average. So I guess it was a positive overall experience

I'm not a fan of rock or any metal genre i used to like them but now it's a thing of the past so I would like it if you would pick other albums from other genre

This is the prototypical double-album that would have been a lot better if they just boiled it down to one disc. Neither the sound or the songwriting are varied enough to support two hours of music, so a lot of these songs just mush together in a wall of guitars and Billy Corgan's caterwauling. There's good music scattered throughout but it's a chore to listen to the whole thing to enjoy all of it.

Too long album to stay interesting.

Nope. Wobei ich "Siamese Dream" besser finde.

First two songs I enjoy, after that I really can’t remember it.

No me gustó mucho el estilo..

6/10. Need to feel more vibes

this album was long as fuck and changed genres 20 times and took me all day to finally finish it and idek what i think about it bc it was so all over the place

You know, there are some great songs here. Billy Corgan is a good guitar player and a decent songwriter. He’s got a whiny voice, but that’s what we liked in the 90s. However, this album is too damn long. There simply isn’t enough variety or novelty or good humour to justify this length.

I owned this double CD when it came out. I listened to it quite a bit, even if Billy Corgan’s vocals were and still awful. This album holds up for what it is, but I wouldn’t revisit it. It doesn’t make me cringe as much as some other albums of my youf, but it’s not great.

Why the fuck is this 2 hours long?

i cant believe in this 2 hour huge album they were like "yeah let's put the hit 2/5 of the way down the 2nd half of the album that's what were gonna do". which sure, prob for the best as this album does drag (obv the length ain't helping) so yeah. if it was 20mins shorter i might of rated it higher.

What a boring double album, I was tired of his bland voice by the third track (I had 25 more songs to conquer). There's only so much of this particular kind of guitar work that I can handle before I start dreading everything. Honestly, it really made 1979 look like a 5/5 hit song, when it is like a 3 at best.

Overall not a fan. I was almost able to come up to a 3* because of some of the songs I recognized and liked, but so many of the songs were too slow for my taste, and the album had a lot higher concentration of ones I didn't enjoy because of the density of those

Considering I tend to change the radio station when popular Smashing Pumpkin songs come on; I was already not prepared for a 2 hour album session with Billy Corgan and friends. After the first song, I thought I might have a change of heart on these guys but Billy's voice is too much for me. When will this end? Help.

This was the first one I’ve gotten where it felt like a slog to get through. 2+ hours of song after song with a nasally/whiny voice is too much. Only a few saving graces in this. Likes: Bullet with Butterfly Wings, Galapagos, 1979

It was okay

al right too calm for me,a dn a litlle old

I don't know why so many people say this is their best work or their greatest album. I found it to be lackluster.. it did have a good emo rock type of vibe I for sure liked Siamese Dream better. I'm still not sure if I'm totally into this band or not lol. 2.5/5 for me

This started well. First couple of instrumental tracks were accomplished and made for good listening. However, most of the album is pretty dire - noisy and unremarkable.

you really can have too much of a good thing

I dislike the vocals, but musically there are a lot of good things here. Sadly it is yet another bloated double album and my religion forbids those from receiving a good scores.

Good songs, vocals like nails on a chalkboard

This was too long, should’ve cut half the songs

26/02/2026 *1. mellon collie and the infinite sadness - not looking forward to this album.... said i wouldn't dnf any album, but reallly contemplating it lol. two hours!!!!! like the strings... really nice as it's going on actually. a lot gentler than the other album on here. 2. tonight, tonight - really liking the strings again! still don't like the vocals again. too whiny..... *3. jellybelly - sounds more metal.... like the guitar though! emo lyrics.... drumming is great!! really love the sounds at the end! 4. zero - already know this one. remember loving the sound, but the lyrics put me off so much that i stopped listening to it... vocals aren't bothering me so much on this one, don't know why! just got to the last verse and take it back. *5. here is no why - bit slower... his voice reminds me of a grungier brian molko.... tooo whiny and american :( not grating me as much as the other album... need to compare afterwards? liking this one a lot more so far. *6. bullet with butterfly wings - already know the chorus of this? vaguely know the rest of this. immediately less whiny. imagine it'll start soon. lyrics are a bit cringey. don't like when he screams.... love how crunchy the guitar gets!!!! feel like i am frying my ears <3 7. to forgive - love the organ. backing vocals make it sound less whiny. nice :) 8. an ode to no one - not massive on this one. kindof started liking it and the tempo has changed..... not massive again. making me work on sending off my portfolio (again!!!!), silver linings...... 9. love - more electronic... not a fan *10. cupid de locke - harp!!! liking this one so far... reminds me of alice in wonderland for some reason??? spoken word? reaaaaallll nice!!! 11. galapagos - love the shoegazey instrumentals.... like a song from a gregg araki movie...... really lovely. 12. muzzle - nothing to say lol, not my thing again. 13. porcelina of the vast oceans - more subdued... really loving it about a minute in, but still got eight more to go lol. just got loud.... don't dislike it, but was enjoying the peace. not as big a fan of the louder bits and zoned out towards the end, but really enjoying the dreamier songs on here. *14. take me down - different vocalist?? realllllly loving it without the really whiny voice <3 really sweet lyrics as well. gorgeous :) 15. where boys fear to tread - onto the second album! had a quick break in between.... liked the riff during the chorus, especially towards the end 16. bodies - getting very sleepy now.... still 12 songs to go!!! don't like the screaming vocals in the chorus. reminds me of metal vocals..... 17. thirty-three - immediately more dreamy.... still not a fan of the vocals. reaaaalllly loved the one song that wasn't whiny :( 18. in the arms of sleep - not big on this one, but wouldn't complain if it was in the background :/ over this album now.... so long.... *19. 1979 - didn't realise i'd heard this one before! liking it so far... less whiny than most of the other songs. 20. tales of a scorched earth - louder. not a fan. reaallly not a fan oh my god. very emo. waaaayyy too screamy for me :( 21. tru the eyes of ruby - begging this man to shut up oh my actual god. why is this song and album so long. losing the will right now. liked the dreamy ending. 22. stumbleine - aarrhg. really thought this album would change my mind on the smashing pumpkins after the first few songs, but it's gone downhill again. 23. xyu - please stop screaming..... mary had a little lamb bit is very im14andthisisdeep. do not like metal music and this takes far too much influence from metal for me....... like the screeching at the end. 24. we only come out at night - electronic again... not big on the more electronic songs so far. this is reminding me of that godawful quirky white stripes album....... 25. beautiful - not liking the start of this. if you got rid of the second half, i don't think it would affect the album much! really not enjoying this anymore. not a fan of the beat or the tinkling sound. 26. lily (my one and only) - reminding me of the shit white stripes album again. too twee. 27. by starlight - like the fade in. guitar is nice.... still realllllly don't like the vocals 28. farewell and goodbye - so glad this is over!!!!! my thoughts on this are up there i am not spending anymore time on this am going straight to bed...........................

I usually like rock but there’s something about this album- not sure what, that does not make me want to listen to it again. Songs i liked: Love, Take Me Down,

Not for me

Good alternative group from the 90’s. Good sound, and music.

What a slog of an album. 2 hours of Billy Corgan is about 110 minutes more than I can stand.

When to listen: October moody. My college boyfriend had a few songs from this album in a mix he made me and I liked those songs, which made me think I’d like this album. But it was truly meh to moi.

TL;DLA :D 5/10

Wow, a come down and a half from reviewing some of their other work. It starts really badly with poor quality production and whiny, jeery vocals - like the Gallaghers stumbled into a rock band. They return to this kind of sound a number of times in the album. It has brighter spots and some songs were reasonable, I guess that shouldn’t be a surprise when it’s 2 HOURS long and 28 tracks to choose from. The slower songs are ok and a few more typical rock tracks that are fine. But that’s clutching at straws. Clearly to the true fans it’s brilliant and there must be some poor blighters who have listened to the 5 hours 51 epically long extended super runtime edition. I was just left thinking why they bothered. If they picked out the 6 or 7 best songs and left it at that, this still wouldn’t be that good of an album, but it would have taken up less of my life.

"By Starlight" is possibly the most dreadful song I have ever heard.  Something about dead eyes and a painful droning on.  Like a drunk at a karaoke.  There was no real expression of despair it was that same person that cant see their own drunken demise. The final song was so flat and dire it nearly washed away anything of note down the giant musical drain for me. Rolling back I loved Siamese Dream, so this was utter confusion.  Just in case I was hallucinating I re-played that album as a way to center myself.  Not sure what I learnt but it's like the vocals took a major dip.  "Zero" for example sounded like a child americana making "meeeaahhhhhh" sounds and chatting with a terrible accent (not all Americans have a bad accent) but about midway through I heard the old rawness I previously liked. It wasn't all a miss, there were plenty of OK songs, but it was so long and bedraggled that I think my connection with the music started to wane.  I only just accepted the vocals on SD and this was just too much for me.  Why couldn't they condense this into a decent album I have no idea.  Ironically, I was confused why I liked SD as previously didn't engage with Smashing Pumpkins and here I am now confused why I now don't like this.  And what the hell is "Cupid De Locke" all about.

58. tonight tonight

too damn long

Didn't really dig that

Not as bad as I remember it but still not a huge fan of smashing pumpkins.

Would have given this 3 stars but fuck this album for being over 2 hours long, no one needs that much Smashing Pumpkins.

Well for what’s it’s worth this album was long, too long to be exact, and a lot of the songs were just straight up awful. Sometimes his voice actually sounded pretty good (mainly on the softer songs) but majority of the time he sounds like a mosquito buzzing in my ear. Overall I definitely did not need to listen to this album.

This is a good album to revisit. I haven't heard it in a while.

**A mix of good and bad. Some good greasy listening tracks and some with just loud noise.

Has some bops, but also had no business being that long

#244/1001. To be honest, I'm only half way through, so giving a rating now feels like cheating. On another hand, I have 1 hour of experience already, which is about 30 minutes more than a good album should last. The album just turned 30, which makes me about 22 when this came out, still in potential target group. And yes, I think Siamese Twins was on the turntable every now and then and some friends had this one on their shelves - parts besides the hits are familiar. This also includes the too heavy metal sounding guitar, and the horrible voice of Corgan (did he want to sound like he had a flu or something?), but also the beautiful acoustic pieces. Some musical experimentation audible here and there, nothing specially inventive. The buzz guitars sound the same every track. For me the best songs are the ones where the distortion or guitars are turned off. Perhaps instead of the 28 songs one could get a rather nice Mercury Rev fanboy acoustic album somewhere around 30 minutes. Rather that than a 6CD 30th anniversary, thanks.

The high points are obvious and undeniable, but it's sprawling, two hours long, and has some real emotional insights like "love is suicide." Didn't finish.

I loved this album when it first came out and I was much younger. Listening to it now was much different. There were some really great tracks and then multiple songs in a row that just felt like filler. There was no need to make this a double album since a lot of the songs could have been left in Billy's head instead of making it to the studio.

really enjoyed the first half of this album quite a bit but my interest died off into the latter maybe it deserves another listen so that it might grow on me

When they weren’t screaming, I didn’t hate it. But they scream a lot.

I started skipping after a while, this album may have gotten away with a single cd, but two whole hours? Get over yourselves you self-important wankers. Half these songs were filler. Only reason I'm not giving it 1 star is 1979.

Not bad confussing not my style

Some real art, but just too long to appreciate as a single album for me. I struggle with getting a feel for double albums sometimes. There are some absolutely solid pieces of rock songwriting here - all the singles are really great. Love some of the riff and hook writing. There's too much of it for me though and personally I find it feels like song after song after song - I couldn't find an overall arc that helped me stick with it.

I do not like grunge and its loud and harsh

#44 I appreciate the heavy guitar but that's it

Pre listening thought: this album is 2 hours long so it better be really fucking good to justify the length Post listening thought: it was not good enough to justify the length I never listened to smashing pumpkins in their heyday, they just kind of passed me by. On the whole I like what the instruments are doing. I do not like billy corgan's voice. It is definitely an acquired taste that I have not acquired. I feel like I would have given this an extra star if they had a different vocalist (it's so completely distracting how much he sounds like a muppet) and maybe another star if it had been 40 minutes long. So much of what I like about this period in music is here, so it's weird this is getting a 2. But right now it's a 2. Not so unlistenable that it's a 1 but I probably won't be listening again.

Litt for langt album for meg

Mediocre music does not deserve a double album

At one hand, it's not as bad as I expected it to be. Some moments were pretty fun (especially Jellybelly). But annoying moments are really annoying. 3 and I am excluding one point because I do it with all albums that shouldn't be double

Not as bad as other albums I’ve had to listen to for this album. Some songs were almost good but were brought down by other songs in the album. Also, 2 hours is too long for an album imo.

this gets points deducted for just being wayyy too freaking long. screw that. some decent ballads and guitar riffs but lots of nothingness and an awful singer's voice? really? Would I listen again? No Deserves to be on this list? No 2.2

Struggled more than I thought I would.

Bit of a slog at over 2 hours. Can't believe there are longer versions of this album. Fav tracks: 1979 Saved a song: N RYM: Y (#338)

Bon début mais l’album est trop long.

There are some interesting pieces here. But not enough to warrant a double album, much less one I needed to listen to (as a complete album). Lots of drama — although I give them credit for showing range on a few tracks. Some tracks are unlistenable. A 2.

Not my cup of tea . Some songs were good though . Also I don’t think the two hour length is justified… love the art cover btw

I think I coulda died without this one.

Not my cup of tea

Okayish - would have been my thing when I was a teenager but a bit whiny now.

Not really a fan of their music. I’ve heard their singles before of course but I’ve never heard the entire album and honestly, it’s just not for me.

Self-indulgent and bloated, nothing here justifies the two hour running time. It would be too long at half the length. There are moments of promise here, and songs like the album opener “Tonight, Tonight” hint at something more dramatic and theatrical than the post-grunge slog that makes up the brunt of this album. I’m not a fan of this band, obviously, but there are songs on Siamese Dream that still stand out after all the years; not so here. There are few memorable riffs, the quiet-loud thing doesn’t work because the guitar tones when it gets loud are so distorted that they don’t have any dynamics; the only thing that really stands out to me is how cringey Billy Corgan’s lyrics are. And that’s putting aside his whiny tone. It’s less angsty and more a parody of angst. Fucking awful honestly. If there’s an identifiable concept or theme running through this album to tie it together, I must have missed it. You’d think that because Billy Corgan is such an egotistical gasbag that he’d at least be able to back it up with something musically worthwhile, but you’re not going to find it here.

3 classic tunes among a lot of bloat.

I simply don’t think this album was for me, I can musically see the appeal and it’s a very well done album but it’s just not my personal cup of tea in terms of vocals, genre, and the 2 hour runtime. If I really sat down and gave it another listen I think I could rate it higher but i honestly don’t have the push to even listen to the second half. I do really love the song from them I’ve grown up listening to like ‘Tonight, Tonight’, ‘Bullet With Butterfly Wings’, and ‘1979’ Strong 2/5, leaning towards 3

bloated

A promising name. Unfortunately, the album falls short of my expectations.

Grunge really isn’t my thing but I was curious about this since 1979 is a great track. Then I found coming from the back of the previous 1.5 hour album that this was even longer. No album should be 2 hours. Specially when you listen to one per day, it’s just too much to take in and do justice. Tops you can listen to each track once. Honestly, this was quite boring. 1979 is good as ever, the rest was meh. The vocals that work so well on 1979 just feel whiny on other tracks (Body). Probably a weak 3 star but due to the length a 2 star. I couldn’t wait for it to end.

If you randomly select any 10 of these songs, we're looking at 3 stars. Handpick the best 10, we're looking at 4/5. But I absolutely cannot get through this entire thing again, I promised myself I wouldn't after my listen 2 years ago. Unabridged, this is 2 stars at best

I think this record has the same issue with it now as when I originally heard it back in the day, it’s just too long. There’s some real highlights but it gets bogged down

I hate the Smashing Pumpkins and Billie Corgen's irritating ass voice.

I was never a massive fan of Smashing Pumpkins. Listened to Siamese Dream when it came out and went back and checked out their first few record because of that. They def have some jams. But I remember feeling fatigued by them when Mellon Collie came and out and never bothered to listen it. The singles were played constantly and didn’t really appeal to me and Billy Corgan kinda annoyed me so I figured why bother. I think it’s too late for me to hear this album for the first time. There’s way worse music out there but it’s another case of my built-in impressions coming in colouring my reaction.
