Reviews (page 7 of 7)
I had high hopes for this - I like some early Floyd and I'm always up for out-there music made by auteurs. But this is just bad. Every songs starts with me hoping it'll be something, and there's the odd possibility of a good idea, but it's smothered in this lazy childish, half arsed whimsy. At no point was I intrigued or interested and evedy time a song finished I was glad. The worst was 'Love You', which just irritated me beyond belief. A parody of emotion.
This was garbage. The album is filled with off key vocals and out of tune guitars
This, combined with The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, makes me quite grateful that Barrett left Pink Floyd. I don't like his shit at all. 1.5 stars is more accurate than 1, as it didn't give me a headache. But I'm rounding down.
Did not like this at all
I'm not a fan of the Barrett-era Floyd stuff, so this one didn't do it for me either.
Rätt tråkigt
Drivel
nope
This must be the voice you hear when you're in hell. Oofa what a chore this was. Honestly it's not shocking that Pink Floyd took off after his departure. 3/10
"If it's in you" is the laziest thing I've heard in a long time. As far as originality: the good tracks feel like they could have been done by the Beatles. Someone somewhere clearly appreciates this "hidden gem" of an artist but for me, this album can stay buried. Top tracks are "octopus" and "no good trying", but the bar here is low.
Absolutely not for me
Not my cup of tea, feels like off key demo tapes. Not sure why it’s here
Give me a break.
By trying to do a lot, he’s managed to do nothing good at all.
I'm pretty sure this qualifies as torture under the Geneva convention
I normally finish albums on this list. This one I just couldn’t. I’ve only had a handful of late 60/early 70s folk albums from this list and I fall asleep through the best of them.
d frag isch, isch das album würkli us musikalische gründ daa druff oder eifach us "fun fact gründ"? terrapin tömt öppe wie ichsmer vorgstellt han, finds jz nöd schlecht aber joooo no good trying findi da schochli spannender, wenn au da mich nüt würkli packt love you isch ja schrecklich ja es zieht sich mit dene akustikgitarre schrummschrumm lieder sicher han ich das au eifach s gfühl wege droge und so aber muss schochli an andere guy denke wo au so es komischs album gmacht het (sehr guet beschriebe ich weiss) yees I'm thinking, yeees I'm thiiiiIIIIIIÜÄÜÄÜÄ- HAHAHAHAHA HUERE LUSTIG seeehr cool, dass sie das dinne glah hend aso s lied selber isch schrecklich aber es git am lied trz öppis "echts" find cool hanis mal glost! aber gfalle hetsmer nöd, 1 oder 2 (für terrapin und no good trying und de allgemeini vibe wo scho au öppis spannends mit sich bringt)
This album started with what I thought was going to be a lofi solo album. The sort of thing Graham Coxon or someone cool would list as an influence. And the first song possibly was there. Afterwards, what followed was confusing, and quite unpleasant. The melodies random, the instrumentation difficult to listen to. In conclusion, I thought it sucked 1 star.
This album is like waking up from an anaesthetic after having a kidney removed. Your mind is cloudy and your mouth is dry. There’s no sign of a nurse and none of your family are by your side. In fact, you’re alone in this plain white room. You push the call button, desperate for a glass of water. Nobody comes. You begin to wonder if this is a nightmare.
Wrong list. Should be on 1001 album ypu dont need to waste your time on.
The music isn't bad but his voice and style of delivery drove me nuts.
Atrocious
"Turns out Syd wasn’t as mental as the guy who decided to give him a solo album." Bijzonder hoeveel mensen dit dan nog 5 sterren geven. Dat lijkt me een soort ultiem snobisme. Dit had voor mij allemaal niet gehoeven, geen fijne luisterervaring. Weg ermee, 1 ster.
"Madcap"? Bit too mad for me.
Do you have trouble sleeping? Listen to this.
I think I am on the wrong list. This should be on the 1001 albums you never want to listen to before you die. 1 star or F-.
Hate to be mean, but I’m glad Gilmore split ways with Barrett early on.
It's difficult for me to understand how this abominable album made it onto this list. The critic must be a real Loudermilk.
Not my thing
Hard to get through honestly, some part were straight paintful Favorite: Late Night
Robot devil here, "you're songs lack subtlety!" Boo aweful.
Even the singer sounds bored by the songs
I mean this is just like... Actively bad a lot of the time?
Through Shiiiiitteee
So boring. Everything sounds the same.
I literally don’t care syd
Take your own advice, Syd. It's no Good Trying...
The major upside of any breakup is no longer having to pretend that you like/care about/enjoy certain things. Turns out, I was lying to myself about enjoying this truly ridiculous nonsense music and all the other albums of this ilk. Pretentious drivel.
i'm sorry. this was just terrible and very hard to listen to
Not for me. Spangly guitar strumming, inebriated, hippies that can't sing. I think I may have been alright dying before hearing this one.
Very British.
i didn't hear any "laugh" throughout this album
Пьяный пацаны на лавочке орут песни получше, чем этот персонаж
Sorry, aber für mich klingt das nach einer unfertigen DEMO-Platte. Als Zeitdokument vielleicht für eingefleischte Fans brauchbar.
Not for me.
Couldn't get into this one, found his voice too much.
Oli aika vaikea kuunneltava. Keskittyminen herpaantui pahasti. Tajusin etten oo tainnut koskaan kuunnella Pink Floydin ekaa levyä, tämä ei tosin hirveästi kannusta siihen.
Tough to get through. Still stuck on Piper at the Gates of Dawn when Pink Floyd had already moved on.
“Wouldn’t you miss me at all” Shame to hear how unfinished this is, while also knowing that Syd was quickly being consumed. Credit where it is due, he changed RnR forever, but it quickly left him behind.
It was a bit boring, up until If It's In You, where it sounded like a bad X Factor audition. That took it from 2 to 1 stars.
Not my type of music.
This album feels exploitative. Syd barely feels present here. It gives me the ick.
Music taste is very subjective, with us all influenced by the characteristics that make us an individual. For every album on here, there will be someone who loves it and someone who hates it. Critics however seem to be in general more aligned to a collective consciousness , and certain acts are more lauded, maybe because they are good and I just don’t understand? Know it’s almost blasphemy but I just don’t get the love in for Pink Floyd. I’ve tried, because have always been told how good they are,I really have tried from multiple angles, the big album, the 1st album the later ones and no I just don’t get it personally , just leaves me cold asking and… So I entered this with some trepidation. The solo album from the guy who left because of a mental breakdown. And I got and felt exactly what I expected. I don’t ever want or need to hear this again. I found it a real drag to get through, after 2 tracks had to turn off and came back later, and then the 3rd track made me want to switch straight off again, what whimsical bs. Just really not my thing, but ok on Wiki look at all those top lists it’s on, again I must not be intellectual enough to get it, maybe?? Do think it’s a case of the critic knowing what happened to this guy so it’s the “enlightened work” of a person with mental health issues. A very questionable view, insight into his condition yes, enlightened genius? To me it’s like a supposedly renowned chef serving up a tin of dog food, it’s still just dog food. The lyrical content isn’t exactly exacting, and musically it’s somewhat basic without any interest, nothing wrong with simple lyrics and basic instrumentation, some of my favourite music is both, but what I consider interesting. Oh what do I know well I just don’t care. It’s finished now so can stop writing to distract myself 1 Star
Very boring
I know but I prefer later pink floyd after he left anyway. just not for me
Dull dull dull
Hate to say it, but everything Pink Floyd touches turns to bland.
sad crazy man plays weird rock
Not knowing anything about the background of this album it just sounds like unfinished edits and outtakes, parts of songs that had potential but these are just the shit recordings of them. Not really enjoyable. Sounds very generic early British grunge.
Crap
Sloppy, unengaging writing and performance.
Jeesus mitä paskaa
British rambling at its worst. A bit sloppy and undefended. 2/10
Saying somebodies artistic creation sucks is usually inappropriate, but i will tell you why I didn’t like this album at all. The howling caterwauling vocals that weren’t any particular melody. The off tempo and inconsistent chord changes and beats. The lyrics seemed hackneyed and cliche.
This was a hard listen. It feels like it wasn’t all the way finished. I think if the production was better, and maybe the playing at times too, this would be a really great album. Sadly it isn’t. None of the songs could keep my attention for the whole run.
1 stern
Suckt, sehr nervig
Wow, that was tough. He may have been a Genius, maybe, but by this time in his life, someone should have just said no.
br*tish made it to if its in you and that was hard enough
It's hard to separate the tragedy of Syd Barrett from the quality of his post-Pink Floyd work, but by this point, sadly his best years were clearly behind him already.
1. terrapin - 1.5 2. trying - 1 3. love you - 1 4. land - 1 5. globe - 1 6. here - 1 7. octopuz - 1 8. golden - 1.5 9. gone - 1 10. cold - 1 11. feel - 1.5 12. you - 1 13. night - 1
Nah
The Good: The album cover. Great color, great lines… The Bad: There isn’t much color or lines in the album. The Ugly: Totally removing any fondness I might have had for Syd B Is the only reason that Syd is on this list due to him being the co-founder of one of the greatest bands ever? Then again, IMHO, Pink Floyd really became great when Syd had already been replaced. So we have some psychedelic music, some incoherent singing, and a lot of acoustic strumming. Kudo’s to those who can find joy in this album! I won’t be able to listen to this album again… 1*
Zzzzzzzz! Self indulgence at its worst.
There was a fifth Beatle!? Just kidding. He's way worse.
This was a rough listen. Nothing here that I'd want to hear again. 1 star.
Didn’t enjoy it. The only reason it was even released was that his name was Syd Barrett.
Fav: Terrapin Least Fav: No Good Trying These feel like demos to actual songs that resurface on YouTube, just very messy
01) Terrapin - 6,0 02) No Good Trying - 5,5 03) Love You - 5,5 04) No Man's Land - 5,5 05) Dark Globe - 4,0 06) Here I Go - 5,5 07) Octopus - 6,0 08) Golden Hair - 5,0 09) Long Gone - 5,0 10) She Took a Long Cold Look - 5,0 11) Feel - 4,0 12) If It's in You - 2,0 13) Late Night - 4,0 TOTAL: 4,85 (49/100) Current ranking: 368/387
Complete waste of time.
Suckt, sehr nervig
Hawk tooey
Ooooh na.
That was not pleasant, nor is it supposed to be but I’d be happy to die without hearing this tbh
Yes, schizophrenic musicians are interest. But the Piper at the Gates of Dawn gives any music fan a full taste of Syd Barrett AND is actually an album; and a really intriguing, cohesive one at that. This? This comes across as a basket of basement tapes.
This was terrible. It almost felt like this guy was tricking everyone into believing that since he came from a famous band that he could do whatever he wanted and they'd eat it up.
Awful
Absolute sack of shit. What a waste of my time.
Oh god this was intolerable. This voice is so horrible and mopey and just drags on like it doesn’t matter. I really hated this and I just can’t see why it’s on this list: it sounds like he gave up trying immediately. Boring, gross.
Was going to give it a 2 because I just couldn't get into it, then after hearing Late Night it had to drop to a 1.
This was actually awful. Why on earth is it regarded as one of the 1001 albums I must hear before I die? Is it because it's so notably bad it must be heard to demonstrate how bad music can be? Nothing personal against Syd, I reckon if I were to record an album it would be similar to this. Just as horrific. To make matters worse, I'm pretty sure I listened to this album a while ago and forgot to leave a review, so have had to endure it for a second time.
Some of this is interesting. Some of its quite bad. If Its You sucks a lot. Waste of time Its one of those things that is hard to listen to, because it's bad, but clearly Barrett is not right.
Just awful. Sounded like a Beatles reject. I mean I love Pink Floyd but please stop shining you crazy diamond….stick to gardening.
About what I expected...which is total crap. 1.5/5
Listened to this for another list and really didn't get it. It's not good. 1/5
One of the more egregious, unnecessary inclusions on the list. To the rubbish bin with ya...
Underwhelming, deteriorating Psychedeleic Rock.
Sorry Dylan I’m slacking
1 - there’s a reason punk Floyd got good after this dude left Really not my type of music and this guy has no substance The ad lib parts are absolutely horrrible too
Damn that's bad
Very unstructured and the compositions are boring at best. Most interesting; "Dark Globe" and "Octopus". The lyrics are interesting, the music is not.
This sounds like improvised busking
No very good. Bad vocals. Very depressing.
Pretty sure he just hit record with no preparation at all and just kept going in one take. For the whole album.
Yes, I definitely need to listen to a man making an incredibly boring album during a breakdown. I would take every single Pink Floyd album above this. Then again I never 'got' Piper at the Gates of Dawn either, so maybe I'm just not on board with Barrett.
5/10. I found the album to be fairly disappointing. This is mainly because I had really high expectations. I am a fan of Pink Floyd, and prog is my favourite genre. In my opinion, Pink Floyd is the single best band to ever grace this Earth (not to be confused with my favourite band; that one is TOOL). Because of the sheer spectacular musicianship that takes place in Pink's Floyd music, as well as Syd Barrett's status as one of Pink Floyd's founders, I expected this album to be a masterpiece. However, it was a letdown. In fact, it felt below average in comparison to most of the albums in the 1001 album project which I've reviewed so far, let alone one that came from a founder of the single greatest band to ever exist on the face of the Earth. The tracks seemed to be boring, and they seemed to fall flat. The heap of outtakes that capped this album made the experience a lot less pleasant. While I would give this a 3/5 if it were by some average ol' hippie Joe doin' a solo album, I will give this a 1/5 instead, given the circumstance that this album is by a Pink Floyd founder.
Listening to paint dry is more entertaining than this.
This was an absolutely slog to get through, never listening to it again. My infant hated it too
This was always going to be a tough listen for me. I have never been a fan of Pink Floyd, so coming into Syd Barrett’s solo work I was already on the back foot. “Terrapin” felt like a very flat opener. It reminded me of a weaker Beatles outtake rather than something distinctive in its own right. From there, the album never really grabs hold. The loose, fragmented feel might be part of its charm for some, but to me it just sounds unfinished and meandering. I can understand why people are fascinated by this record. There is a vulnerability and fragility to it, and knowing the story behind Barrett adds weight. But purely as a listening experience, I found it dull and difficult to stay engaged. It is a one out of five for me. Favourite song: None stood out. Least favourite: The album as a whole just does not work for me. Album artwork: A really cool and striking cover. Easily the most memorable part of the package
Can’t believe this is worthy of the list.
Ciertamente puede armar una canción, lo que no puede hacer es cantarla.
The was the worst recorded music? Yet!
I like albums where people are sort of dicking around and finding interesting little nuggets - Bowie's made a whole career of that - but I reall don't find much that's interesting here. He's got the presence but nothing breaks through.
This had potential but fell flat. Syd Barrett gets a lot of acclaim and I don't know why. 1.7
Not my thing, a bit too slow and folksy.
Still better than Tim Buckley.
In general, I am open experimental and outsider music - Daniel Johnston has some magnificent work, for example. I can’t get into this at all. Barrett has a fascinating life story and this album does have its in the rock pantheon but it’s not my vibe.
This album really is tragic. Syd Barrett obviously had ability to write fun and sometimes heartfelt songs, but the entire album feels half-baked and underwhelming. Almost as if it suffers from the same things that afflicted Barrett. If this were re-released with proper production and a cleaner sound I think it would be much better, because in it's original state it's a hard listen
Terrible, how did this make the list?
Some decent tracks, but others were downright cringe.
Awful. He was always terribly overrated.
Not to make light of mental illness, but this jerk losing his marbles was the best thing to ever happen to Pink Floyd, cos this is shite
Говорят, старина был шизиком. А по музыке его об этом не скажешь, уж слишком скучно и базово
Sad.
Weird but not in interesting way
In de beschrijving van deze guy stond dat ie pink floyd had opgericht.. what happened
Grosser Name - aber es fehlt mir der intellektuelle Zugang ... oder etwas LSD.
Further Evidence that not everything should be recorded.
Fucking really?
Dreadful
Got almost two full songs in before I gave up on this one. Just awful.
Unlistenable.
It’s interesting as a curiosity but my word it’s a shambles. He wasn’t fit to record and it’s mess of half written and half performed songs. I never really got the Sid was the genius story. He wrote whimsical songs. He fell apart. This seems half a sincere attempt to get him through his problems and half an attempt to exploit them.
moments that were ok but come on this is pish
When man and rhyming dictionary combine.
I don’t think I’m going to make it through this entire thing. Not a fan of any adoration of Pink Floyd add to that a healthy dose of exploitation of someone with a mental illness and I’m incredibly uninterested.
Did not enjoy.
Sad. Mostly in a bad way. This list is too British.
Unzumutbar!
This is just dire. I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan, but really the music only started getting interesting after SB left. It's interesting (for Pink Floyd nerds like me) to listen to the individual members' solo stuff (and also the albums they released as a group when not all of them were part of the band). Roger Waters clearly adds the edge, David Gilmour makes it melodic, and Syd Barrett makes it whimsical and lacking in any depth. This album is atrocious, it starts of kind of okay as psychedelic folk type stuff, but towards the album just completely degenerates into a mess. Guy can't really sing, the songs aren't interesting lyrically or musically, 1/5.
Never understood the obsession people have with this dude. This album is forgettable and bland. Definitely didn't need to hear it before I die.
Nie dokończyłem nawet takie chujowe
Not good
Combines the worst of early prog and psychedelia with hints of lame folk vocals. Early Pink Floyd had good moments courtesy of Syd, but he also contributed some awful guff.
This is one of the worst things I've ever heard with no redeeming qualities. It sounds like you gave a drunk homeless man a guitar and told him to record an album that day and you'll give him more hooch. Lyrically, melodically and artisticly devoid of anything. Give me a guitar and 24hrs and I truly believe I could do better. Solid 1
I tried but I couldn't find a reason why this is on the list. Also, i did not enjoy the album at all :( Sorry
Not my tempO
A little out there for me.
Nope
Just a blank canvas of same-sounding acoustic guitar and singing. I got nothing at all out of it.
Not too good.
Ok
Rating: 1/10 Absolutely awful album. Hated everything about this, the vocals are awful, the musicianship sounds demented in the worst way possible. A truly awful album, quite possibly the worst one yet and one of the worst albums I have ever heard.
Not sure why Syd Barrett is on this list. "Long Gone" sounds like an early Rolling Stones song.
Inte min kopp té
Rough, maybe bootlegged version o youtube? Whimsical but pshcy rock in this way is not my thing
Uninspired psychedelia. Not my jam.
I know this album came out before a lot of Pink Floyd's more successful albums. But it really feels like a bad Pink Floyd knock off. It's terribly boring.
BORING
Okay.
awful singing
This record is the soundtrack to a cautionary tale of mental illness. It’s the Syd Barrett story laid out musically and it’s just as sad. His influence is obvious and important on tracks like Astronomy Domine and Interstellar Overdrive, but this is not that. So much so in fact, that it showcases how much he missed the rest of Floyd, not the other way around. I had to listen to Meddle to clean me ears. 1/5
Not my thing
Pink Floyd regards Syd Barret very high and has mentioned how influential he was for their sound and how he was a cornerstone in the band, basically pulling the strings. That might be true, but it's a bit funny how they made their best stuff after he left the band. I can see many resemblences between this album and the first two Pink Floyd albums as well, but those albums at least had some songs that were pretty good, and they sounded like they were mixed by professional musicians. This has nothing of that. It sounds terrible, the songs are jibberish and incohesive. Maybe some songs reflect his mental wellbeing at the time, which would be both interesting and a bit sad, but it's still not anything I would put on or listen to.
Sorry Syd, I know you were instrumental to Pink Floyd and probably a great musician in your own right but I didn't like this. The album is all over the place and feels often like listening to the first demos of songs. It feels a bit anti-folk. Some songs have potential like "Golden Hair" and "Long Gone"(although just turning the volume up in the mixing instead of a crescendo is cheap)". All in all it will get a one but a strong one as I feel it has potential just the execution is not really worthy of an album.
Not very memorable
To me, it seemed like he was trying too hard to sound like The Beatles and The Doors.
Oh no..
Starts off okay, but just descends into madness, pretty sad considering the situation
He's a fucking terrible singer. The rest was ok
I like PF but not a fan of this.
This is a 1 I don’t give lightly. I love Floyd, and the legend of Barrett is fascinating. But even by his own admission, this is not a representative artistic statement from him.
So you know how sometimes, band members get booted for having creative differences, and the person getting kicked out says "screw you guys, imma write the music I like and it's gonna be awesome!" And then they produce absolute swill? This feels exactly like that. They say Pink Floyd was never the same once he left, I can only assume that's true because they got better.
If you like a droning monotone singer you'll like this. I don't.
Trash.
This is... Appalling. It's Beatles-esque late 60s psychadellic pop way past the pinnacle of Beatles-esque late 60s psychadellic pop. Syd sounds almost exactly like Neil from the Young Ones. From a musical history perspective, this may be an album to include. From an objective point of view, this album is terrible. It shouldn't have been made at all. It definitely shouldn't have been included in this list on the basis of any merit inherent in the work. Dear gods. "If it's in you" is atrocious in a way that actually, legitimately gives me a headache. This is a car-crash of an album and it feels ghoulish to be even listening to it.
It's not the worst thing I've ever heard. It's not good at all, either. I honestly couldn't wait til it was over so I think it has to be a 1. On a wider note I'm not sure I get this one's inclusion. I guess it's a historical interest thing to know what Syd Barrett was doing after he left Pink Floyd, but like, who is this for? This album feels more like a set of demos or 30 mins of noodling around in the studio than an album. Best song: Octopus? maybe?
Nope.
This sounds like a Ringo Starr album if Ringo didn't have the benefit of John, Paul, and George helping him write and perform any of it.
Jesus wept, this was hard work!
I think this might be what I sound like when I'm in the shower, singing, after having had a few too many. It isn't a very appealing thing to listen to. Most of this is incoherent. I wouldn't know that this was in any way someone attached to the formation of Pink Floyd. This was just not very good.
I know Syd Barrett's name from Pink Floyd, but I've never listened to any of his music before (not even Piper at the Gates of Dawn). I know the man was going through some pretty heavy stuff when he made this album, and I feel a tad guilty being critical of it, but woof, this was not my cup of tea. All of the songs just kind of blended together. Nothing really stood out to me, and there was nothing about this album that even separates it from other psychedelic music of the era. It honestly sounds like someone was making a movie about England in the late sixties, and just as they were wrapping production, they realized they forgot to have a soundtrack, but they only had $400 left in the budget to put towards the music, and this was the result. I listened to about 30 minutes of this on my drive to work, and when I got out of the car, I went to check how many more songs were left, and when I saw that I was only about halfway done with the album, I fell to my knees and cried out to God, demanding to know why he would make me suffer more than Job. I'm going to listen to Spoon's Hot Thoughts to cleanse my palette.
Sounded slowed down. Appreciate someone getting critically acclaimed and having my shower voice though.
this album was a mess. I feel like there was some flashes of brilliance but it was mostly just rambling and jangly noise
A wandering tirade of musical randomness. Very disappointing.
I find it totally fine and 100% acceptable for artists to complete vanity albums. There is nothing wrong with that and there are times when they come out great. I say that to make it clear that I don't have a problem with this record existing. But despite it's historical context, it has no business on this list. It doesn't show the listener anything special about Syd and the songs themselves are not good. So I'm afraid this one is a dud.
Fuck off, Pink Floyd wanker.
This just feels like the exploitation of mental illness. There are fragments of good songs on here (No Good Trying, Late Night), but the majority of it has the feeling of watching something you’re not supposed to be privy to. If It’s In You is a horrifying listen.
So sloppy I kinda hoped this was a mental asylum recording like skip Henderson
Mostly random strumming. Some songs sounded like a dog giving birth. Just feels like someone real high threw shit at the wall to see what stuck.
This reminds me of going to your friend's cute older brother's performance at an open mic night or something. You know, the instance when your crush abruptly ends bc you realize his art kind of sucks ? :/
Sounds exactly like something a guy who dropped too much acid during his life would make. Would not listen again.
Nope.
Not for me. I’m sure there are people who absolutely love this and can break down every chord and lyric but I just couldn’t get into it at all.
Some absolute shite on this album. Golden Hair was one of the ponyest
Well that was an exercise in trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, wasn't it? Maybe this is the curse of such high art: when it's almost kinda sorta borderline music, that's the only way our mere human minds can process it. In any case, my puny brain gives it a 1/5.
Seems that Syd was as bored singing this album as I was listening to it.
p220. 1970. 1 star. Drug addled half baked outtakes from an acidhead casualty do not make for interesting listening. WTF is this doing on this list? "I tattooed my brain all the way/Won't you miss me? Wouldn't you miss me at all?" Actually Syd, no we won't.
Yeah, there's a reason he wasn't in Pink Floyd anymore
Meandering and dull. He sounds like he's making up the tune as he goes along.
Foei, wat langdradig
Sorry not it, mailed two books today though
Heard before: no Hard to get through, to be honest. To some extent that's personal preference - it just feels like whimsical 60s psychedelic pop, without enough edge on the psychedelia to get me through it. Is it on this list because it's interesting that Syd Barrett was a founding member of Pink Floyd, despite not being there for the band's actually good albums?
Oof
Another awful album
Dreary, meandering and dull.
Kids. Don't do drugs.
If this guy hadn't previously been a part of Pink Floyd, there is no way this album would have been made. I can appreciate a touched mind's deranged performances (RIP Wesley Willis), but this is just nonsense.
Nope
The album is garbage. I realize Syd was in Pink Floyd but that doesn't make his music good. The album is best described a psychedelic folk music. It takes two separate genres that aren't good to create another genre that is worse. Maybe that is the noteworthy part of the album.
weird - aber nicht das gute weird (meistens). Golden hair und long gone sind hörbar, der rest eigentlich nicht.
Not for me
fuck this tedious and boring POS.
Oof, this one was tough. Very all over the place and the songs seemingly kept repeating?? Or else the album was just making me crazy, which is entirely possible. I'm seeing in the other reviews that this album basically documents Syd's degradation and, yep, that tracks.
Did not like it.
This sounds like something I could have made when high
Pretty bad. 1 Def. Some pretty good lyrics, but nothing to redeem it...
Shite
Straight up junk drug music. Hard no for me, dawg.
The vocals ruin this album for me. It sounds like a drunk at karaoke complete with the shitty echo of a school gym. This effect could be used pointedly in a single song, but instead it's throughout the whole album.
didn't enjoy at all
1 Star - Don't know why it's on this list. It doesn't seem remotely psychadelic, which is what I thought his appeal to most people is.
Still not over the Bert Jansch fiasco to get into more folk so this album needed to throw a few upbeat tracks my way. Recognised the name and obviously as he’s a founding member of Pink Flloyd. Reading he was kicked out for “perceived mental illness” and “excessive use of psychodelic drugs”. I’m getting massive Beatles vibes off this record in part. Particularly Ringo-ish. The lyrics are simple and juvenile. And the upstroke guitar style playing in infuriating. I am also sensing a disconnect between the audio quality and style between tracks and further reading shows it was recorded over a number of years and the album has various production credits. I’m feeling quite laboured getting thru these albums as of late so I’m needing something I already know and I’d already rate as a 5 star album. 17 albums in and only one song added to my various Spotify playlists is not a good sign.
It goes against the spirit of the whole album-a-day thing but I stopped listening to this after "golden hair". I can see why some people might like it. Some kinks / small faces / Beatles vibes but overall depressing and folky. Not for me.
Just bad
Hogwash
Not terribly good.
Did not enjoy
never cared much for barrett-era floyd. it all kinda sounds the same. psychedelia on psychedelia. i think i'd have appreciated this more if it was something i had explored in my formative years. hearing it now for the first time its just sad and boring
Highlights: Terrapin Lowlights: Dark Globe, If It's In You A hybrid of folk and psychadelic, nice guitar playing...Improvisational? I don't know, most of the album sounds sloppy and unrehearsed. Contains some of my least favorite tropes in music: The random conversation before/after a track is played because the artist felt it relevant to include it. I did not like this album.
yo, mis gorgoritos y mi guitarra
good lord, what was that. he can't sing.
