pretty cool

I have this on vinyl from back in the day and used to play the singles when I was a DJ. I loved their sound and that dance/indie fusion that was around at the time. Playing it again now I still like it but across a whole album it drags a bit. It’s a good album, it’s just perhaps not as good as I remember. Or maybe music moved on.

Never heard of them. Liked it. Nice to bounce to at the standing desk. Would have bet money it was 80's tho...

Like listening to Unbelievable by EMF on repeat for an hour. Probably could have died without hearing this but still pretty good in a cheesy 90s whiteboy hip-hop kind of way.

Connected is in the movie Hackers. Pretty cool song. But like a lot of early 90s electronic music, this all sounds pretty samey. Fun enough, but really nothing special.

A fun listen

Ja pretty good niet heel bijzonder

interesting sound, better than I remembered. Connected is a good song.

It's alright... pub music.

Barem 3.5

at least it wasn't more 80's.

This is what I remember 90s dance hip hop being. A little jazzy a little funky honestly not a bad album but I don't see myself coming back to this. Nothing is really standing out for me Repeats: Connected, Creation Skips:

It sounds so dated now but it sounded so fresh at the time.

Anyone growing up in the 90's probably dance or seen people dance to Connected and Step it Up. Heard these songs countless times but first time every listening to this album. It's decent though at the 40 min it starts getting a bit old. Well, I doubt it's the last time I'll hear the song Connected, however the album Connected, probably the last time.

I’m sure this was pretty cool at the time but pretty run of the mill at this listen.

Connected is pretty good and I've heard it a bunch. The rest of the album is ok.

It's fine. It sort of sounds like what I expect everything in a city in England would sound like in the mid 90s. Couple of good songs but the whole album is a bit much.

Okay, from what I can see, this is not The Foreign Exchange's Connected. I don't know if this was a rather poor inside joke or... regardless, Stereo MC's Connected is a rather splendid trek in the possibilities that the early 90s had to offer in regards to eclecticism and musical versatility. When it hits, it hits and, as it does, you'll want to clamor for a little more. A vast, wondrous landscape indeed. Favorites: Connected, Ground Level, Everything, Sketch, Fade Away, Playing With Fire, Don't Let Up.

Blind album and artist. It's okay, and that's pretty much all I have to say. Mediocre, as the youts would say... "mid". Electronic Hip Hop and pretty much all filler.

It definitely grew on me. First half comes off incredibly corny, especially with the lead track sounding like every 90s commercial. Second half had me in a groove and a little sad that it ended.

3 Less remarkable Massive Attack. There’s nothing here I would describe as unenjoyable, but it also doesn’t feel like anything I haven’t heard before. The title track was probably my favorite of the bunch, but outside of that, I don’t think there’s anything I could point to as being particularly re-listenable or even commentable if I tried. If I had to use one word to summarize this album, it would probably be “forgettable”. But hell, I’d take a forgettable album any day over having another album like Suicide… at least nothing here is going to haunt my dreams for the foreseeable future.

Good tunes

It's one of those albums that is very much of its time, you listen to it today and it feels dated and shows how much music production has moved on in the 30+ years since it was produced. Not a bad album, just nothing that particularly sticks in your mind

fun and lively dance rock. i didn’t hate it.

Meh. It's fine.

This was another one that was ok but I’m not sure why I need to hear it before I die. Sounded like a wannabe Beck or Beck did it better, depending on who started first.

Que brûlent les goûts musicaux des gens nés dans les années 80.

Love the title track in '92, and still love it today. The rest of the album's aight.

Not bad. Good music to bop to while working.

Aww, takes me back. I had forgotten I saw them supporting Madonna in the Blonde Ambition tour back in the day. I think I had the album too. This holds up pretty well. I still appreciate a bit of acid jazz, though this does get a bit samey tbh

I'll let my 10-year-old daughter's take on the album serve as my review: "Eh. I mean, the music is okay and I like the way it makes me feel. And the vocals aren't BAD exactly. But the words aren't very interesting and they're just saying the same thing over and over again. I don't think I like it very much." Same, kiddo. Same.

Connected and Step it Up were big hits at the time, especially Connected. And I still like the music, even though it aged and faded. However, I fail to see why this particular album should be celebrated more than 30 years after the fact. No one cared about that album at the time, all people cared for were 1-2 hit singles that have more or less disappeared from our culture. Yet another bizarre album choice.

Well, thus started off great. Connected is a banger, the rest of the album did very little for me though. I wouldn’t rush to put it off if it came on the stereo, but equally, I don’t think I’d ever seek this album out to listen to.

It's fine I guess. The beats are good - that's it.

First couple songs were fantastic! But then - meh.

Love the Stereo MCs so was pleased to see this as the album of the day. However I had lots of interruptions while trying to listen but the tracks weren’t as good as the ones we usually listen to. I’d thought I was going to give 4* but for this album maybe higher 3* is a better grade !

Not bad I guess, just sounded a bit dated. I just don't think the list needed more British hip-hop. By the end, the accent really started annoying me.

17th August 2023 Listened a day late cos of Dusty and Sheppeck’s staying. 90s dance hip hop, can hear the influence of US rap and how this must have influenced UK garage and hip hop of the early noughties. 3.5 if I could.

Meh: I didn’t love nor did I hate. Just felt like mid music which I could listen to and not pat much attention to. Maybe it’s just not for me and many would love this but overall a forgettable experience. Really don’t have much to say so I’ll just rate it and inoffensive 3.

Ritmos tranquilos, estilo mezcla entre pop y disco. Ambiente chillout de principios de los 90. Para sesiones relajadas

un album de 56 minutes pour une course de 50 minutes. C'est parfaita hah et le vibe etait bon. 3.90

Funky, groovy. A little bit dark and Primal Screamy. A read a review, and it said the rapping sounds like an afterthought, and I must say it is pretty shite. There's some Massive Attack vibes going on thee too. Pretty good, bopping at my desk. 3 / 5 stars.

The album was alright. I wasn't familiar with any song or the band. I didn't skip any songs and it was easy listening to it.

I wanted to sing ahwwah after every line in every song. I didn't mind this album ahwwah, probably won't listen to it again AHWWHAH

Groovy as hell and equally as forgettable.

Is it a bit monotonous in the end? Sure. Does is really need to be on this list? Probably not. Is it funky? Yes!

I knew the song Connected and liked it pretty well. I was liking it ok, but after a while I couldn’t tell if the album had completed and restarted or if I was still on the first listen. It seemed a lot the same and that made it seem to go on too long for me. Maybe back in the day this would have held my attention, but today it did not.

Similar in style to Fun Lovin' Criminals, Stereo MC's one-hit wonder status must merit them worthy of inclusion on this list according to the author(s). It doesn't. And on top of yet another shoe-horning of a mediocre UK band onto the list, I wonder if it's their UK bias. Again… 2.5/5.

I only knew the album's eponymous song but I didn't mind the rest of it. It did feel like it dragged, though. I thought a couple of the tracks could have been left off, especially as it was somewhat repetitive. Overall a likeable throwback from the 90s.

Rating: 6/10 Best songs: Connected

Not great, not terrible.

BL: never heard of stereo MCs but Will give it a bump AL: it was good but suffered from the same problem the soul II soul album did last week. Dance albums just aren’t that listenable. If I was blazed out of my mind though this would be crazy. FT: “connected” “ground level” “step it up” 3/5

Kind of funky, the flute gives me a feeling of disco. The instrumentals here are the main focus, with the rapping feeling a bit placeholder-ish. It's mostly a vibe. Favorite tracks: "Sketch", "Fade Away"

3.3 - “Connected” is a jam but the rest sounds like H&M music.

cool but not my type

I heavily judged this album by its cover at first but my fears were allayed by the first track which was one of those songs I’ve heard but never knew the details of. It’s also my favorite track on the album. It keeps going along well enough for the next handful of tracks but I’m not sure if I was sleepy or what but I got bored about halfway through and was pretty much over it. Maybe making this album about a half hour wouldve really helped it.

Not exactly my jam, but a classic.

3 stars

4/12, 33%

Some classics here. Enjoyed. 3.5 stars.

Prima voor op de achtergrond

Middelmatige rap-dance muziek. Buiten de 2 hitjes weinig speciaals

Fun to bop to

Is that lightning in space?

Oh, this is who sings that song! Really enjoying the first two songs, “Everything” is a low point with cheesy melody and cringy rapping.

This album has a great sense of rhythm and really great bass lines. However, the rap portions really take me out of it. This mix of hip hop and trip hop doesn’t really quite work and it all starts to blend together after a while. However, the music itself is a great representation of trip hop.

I knew I recognized the name Stereo MC's - then the title track opened the album. Riiiight - Connected. Good tune, cool beats and combination of vocals was solid. Step It Up is another one I knew but didn't remember was by Stereo MC's - also solid. But otherwise it's kind of boring - the whole sound gets old fast. I'd be good with 3-5 songs, but not a whole album.

Started strong but there was too much looping with not enough to listen to.

Easy to forget just how big Stereo MCs were, and they won Brit Awards in 1994 that should have gone to Suede. But I don't hold a grudge and approached this with the usual OPEN MIND. And it's not bad, it's dated and a little saney but is more enjoyable than I anticipated. Best song is one of the singles I'd forgotten, Creation.

Groovy, blends into the background. Nostalgic for those of us the right age.

Wish 'Massive Attack'.

This is like easy-listening hip-hop. There’s not one aurally offensive track here. The opening cut is a real winner. In fact the first 4 , from Connected to Sketch, reel the listener right in. Problem for me was that it just starts to feel a bit samey. I loved some of the samples, though - the Stones piano bit in Playing With Fire & the repetitive riff from Carole King’s It’s Too Late, in The End. Overall, a pretty good listen.

Pleasantly funky and reasonably positive dance/hip-hop/indie crossover thing. Lyrics are nothing to write home about, but has a positive (if slightly superficial) vibe. Tends to blend into a funky wash. I'm sure they were fun live. Sample choice is exquisite, and they are tastefully deployed (which is certainly much better than most early 90s equivalents), which make this album sound less dated than many of its contemporaries. I like Connected, which is a great single, but the album is more of the (pretty good) same.

Funky early morning work jams

Favorite track was "Step it Up"

Fun bit of techno beat here. Very appropriate for clubbing.

Some cool stuff. Recognized the lead track.

Nice blend of hip hop, electronica and indie

I don't know if it's actually any good (it sounds a lot like the kind of dancey 90s fluff I'd normally score pretty low) but to my surprise I quite enjoyed this - it's infectious. Maybe I just needed some funky breakbeats to oscillate along to on a chilly day.

As 90s and as British as you can get.

This is egregiously Bristish 90’s. Not always a bad thing!

I found myself liking this more than I thought I might. Honestly that cover photo was a "yikes" moment. I had never heard this group's name before, but I certainly recognized several of these songs. Not a bad listen but I probably won't ever find myself going back.

что-то непонятное

Bam! 1992 in your face!

I felt like I was watching a Telstra ad during a lot of this. But it provided a chilled soundtrack to a Sunday morning game with the kids.

Not exactly groundbreaking, but groovy. And certainly not a masterclass in variety or consciousness-raising, but slightly more substantive and interesting than disco or other dance music. The beats are fat, accessible, eminently comfortable, though they flirt dangerously with dreaded sameyness (which may be a benefit in if one likes the general vibe [which one does]). Dude's voice is distinct and he does like to go on so about "reality." The use of backing vocals is both extensive and judicious. The whole thing suggests that it's easy to be casually hip, or was in the '90s anyway – hard to say whether that's a feature or a bug. (Is that sax solo on the closer a riff rom Carole King's "It's Too Late"?) Found a niche, didn't they, and a moment in time and this feels just strong enough a record to get them out of one-hit wonder territory (though they seemed a very strong candidate, as evidenced by their rapid disappearance). Rounding up because they exceeded expectations, which were awfully low, but it's a 3-4 toss up.

Stinks of early 90's madchester fall out and inoffensive indie rubble. Best Tracks: Connected; Fade Away; Step It Up

Gotta get yourself connected, writing's on the wall, blah, blah, blah bedected, stumble you might fall (stumble you might fall). Never heard anything except that song and there's a reason for it. Though, the rest of the album is decent, it's nothing to worry yourself over. Being disconnected from this album doesn't matter much in 2022.

Connected was a huge hit in its day, but I couldn’t have told you the artist’s name. It’s a very strong start to this album, but none of the other tracks deliver the same punch. Still, the rhythms, though somewhat dated now, strike a chord in me. I wouldn’t turn this off if it were playing, but doubt I would seek it out.

A 2 if I’m paying attention. A 3 as background noise. I listened to this on a road trip, so 3 it is.

First impression: looks.like sth I would hate, and shou be filtered by my setting (where I exclude hip hop, pop and world music) In fact, not that bad, not an album I would come back to, but it's fine

Some good stuff in there, but samey after a while.

Enjoyable -- liked Step It Up and Creation. Not my favorite but nothing I disliked

Il y a 2 hits, dont un que j’aime beaucoup. Autrement, c’est du pop léché assez conventionnel.

This is the most 1992 album I've ever heard - for better or worse! Pretty mellow and enjoyable. Did not particularly enjoy the background vocals on this, sounded a bit off. I don't know if I'll ever revisit, but it was a nice background to my morning.

I was really feeling this at the start, but it got pretty repetitive and boring further into the album.

I've never heard of Stereo MC's before today. They are a 90's hip hop/electronica band from the UK. Their music reminds me of Moby or Bran Van 3000 a bit (typical run of the mill 90's hip hop). The album was good, I didn't have a compulsion to skip any of the songs, but it also just blended in with all of the other average hip hop bands of that era. I enjoyed the addition of the saxophone at times, and the mixing of beats and samples was well done. I also enjoyed the female harmony accompaniment as well. Overall, an average album, not terrible, but also not groundbreaking. Favourite songs: Everything, Playing With Fire, Creation, Ground Level, Pressure Least favourite songs: Chicken Shake, All Night Long 3/5

This was new to me. I mostly enjoyed it.

this is like the English version of Dee lite. makes me feel like a much more upbeat 90s version of skinnyman with none of the politics. that's probably me talking shite. it's ok, it's not the hidden gem i was hoping for but its genuinely not a bad album.

I always assumed Stereo MCs were American until I listened to this. I was wrong, this is very much the sound of early '90s underground British dance music crossing over to the mainstream. It's much better than I expected, a decent take on the electronic music sounds of the day and some (not so great) rapping thrown in for good measure.

3.5 stars. Easy listening hip-pop. The standout "Connected" is very catchy and the rest of the album carries on the funky easy feel and the simple lyrics.

this album was funky and jazzy but it was so so repetitive to the point where it was boring.

Nice chill organic-sounding dancey-trip-hop. A few nice singles that I remember from the long-ago. I don't have anything negative to say but then again .... I don't know, it's not entirely memorable? i.e. nothing made me sit up and take notice and/or give me chills - the inherent nature of the music, the style, etc - gives the overall sentiment and impression of a bit of repetitiveness. It's not bad, per se, just more of a vibe that's interesting but harder than normal to distill into individual songs or "tracks" - your mileage may vary. So in sum It's more of an attitude record for me, something that would likely be great background/party/gaming/sleeping soundtrack - passive listening. And there's considerable value in that. 6/10 3 stars.

How do all of the songs sound the same?

EMF. Jesus Jones. Beats International. The Shamen, ..The Stereo MCs.. etc. Typical early 90s UK dance music that sounded quite dated even by end of 90s (at least to me, I still like the sound of 80s dance music very much). Songs itself are fine though ("Connected" is 5*) and perhaps, with a different production, this might have been a semi-classic - not on the level of Screamadelica (1991) or The White Room (1992) or Blue Lines (1991) but still, definitely a proper 3* album I would say...

Good vibes but that’s kinda of it for me

First time listener for Stereo MC and Connected was better than I expected. It's kind of cool and funky and it has a catchy rhythm throughout. Probably won't convert me to a fan, but there could be a lot lot worse things to listen to. Enjoyable.

Better than expected!

Fun, trippy, groovy, very '90s. It's an enjoyable listen and definitely a throwback to my college days. But ultimately, excepting a few stand out tracks, much of this album is still pretty forgettable. Title track is the ultimate ear worm. Fave Songs: Connected, Ground Level, Creation, Chicken Shake, Step it Up, Playing With Fire

Cool Prefs: Connected, Everything, Step It Up, Creation Moins pref: Chicken Shake

Decent background music

Inoffensive but a little dull.

05/17/2022 Decent, and very of its time. Full-on 90s in every way. Opening track is a bop, and the rest are pretty fun in a corny, dated way, lol.

Not bad, just kind of forgettable.

Digging the triphop beats here. Very funky. Lyrically it can be a bit on the nose sometimes but overall a really cool release.

Totally chill vibes.

Solidno je. Pjesmu connected sam uvijek voljela a ostalo će otići u zaborav :')

Slušljivo, nedaleko od lošeg, ali si neb pustio ovo, i neb ništ imo protiv albuma da svira ovako negdje, pozadinski.

Po coveru sam očekivo neku lošu verziju fristajloa, ovo je zapravo dost solidno

A one-hit wonder album. The rest of the stuff sounds enough like the hit to make it enjoyable, but it's not different or adventurous enough to make it interesting. Best track: Connected

I know the title track and it's really good. The rest of the songs are new to me. I enjoyed the music and style. I really need to hear more of it to rate it properly. 3/5.

Bändin nimi + levyn julkaisuvuosi nosti varautuneita ennakkoaavistuksia. Onneksi tämä osoittautui kuitenkin jokseenkin positiiviseksi elämykseksi. Leppoisan kuuloista elektrofunkia(?) mukavan soljuvilla rappivokaaleilla(?). Tällaista musiikkia ei nykyään enää kauheasti tehdä. Ei innostanut ihan nelosen arvoisesti mutta solidi kolmonen.

Tends to sound the same after a few songs. Ok

I wasn't quite sure what to expect from an album listed as Acid Jazz. Then I realized just how much I had heard the titular track. I think this is a nice groovy album that is very listenable. It gets a little repetitive at times and falls flat at others.

Genre: Alternative Dance 3/5 Another British album, another 90s album, and another album the internet deems alternative. Almost 70 albums in and I've run into this formula quite a lot. Hopefully this means rather than they're being an inordinate amount of them, I'm running into them early, but I won't hold my breath... I haven't even gotten any Radiohead yet. But as for this album, beyond the title track, which is a pretty killer hip-hop/R&B sort of jam in the neighborhood of Prince, the rest all sort of meshes together into a blend of drum loops and British accents. For what it's worth it's certainly listenable and enjoyable, but lacking sonic variety. Might be a sneak hit for some people who haven't listened to a Prince album yet.

Thought it was going to be better but hasn’t aged that well

Has it's moments. Very groovy, and up my alley but gets a bit repetitive after a while.

Good beats. Nice grooves. Cool flows. Might have been more impressive in the early 90s uk.

I agree with one of the critical reviews. This album was nice to listen to but quite forgettable. It felt like elevator music.

Tri jer connected. Ostalo je jako mlaka verzija happy mondays bez ludila ikakvog i klišejiziranim hipi dipi tekstovima

Good music very 90s

This album was a nice mix between Hip-Hop and Electronica, a nice easy listen and good to pop on and nod your head to - but would have been amazing to see at a festival. It was nice to hear some female vocals throughout the album - something that was not common at the time of release. Best: Connected Worst: Chicken Shake

Very much a product of its time, 90s dance music mostly spun from very early hip hop, staying faithful to 70s funk. None of the tracks are amazing, except "Step It Up." Nothing awful, you definitely get an enjoyable experience from start to finish. Main complaint: songs are too long. Why are they all around 4 minutes or more? Not much progression to keep interest. The Rolling Stones sample in "Playing With Fire" caught me off guard. Favorites: Connected, Fade Away, Step It Up

Not as bad as the other reviews think, just casual east listening. Kind of reminded me of Cake. Not something I’d search out, but better than other albums I’ve given a 3 to.

Oh, that song. This was alright, don't find a lot of cause to listen to this kind of thing though.

"Connected" is a great and groovy song, I really dig it! While the rest of the album is listenable, I didn't feel it ever measured up to the promise of the title track. 3

Hearing the title track sent me straight back to the early 90s, with the alterantive dance / hip-hop music that was being played along side Big Audio Dynamite and EMF. "Connected" was the only track I recognized. "Pressure", "Don't Let Up", and "The End" had a good groove. The album was good.

Dance, hip hop. No está mal

Rap, but without the bragadocio, misogyny, racism or swearing, but with some catchy hooks. Very nice, but somehow it feels a bit hollow. Maybe I'm getting unured to the loathsome rap culture. I hope not.

Great 90's music lol

Definitely enjoyed this one, a good blast into the past for sure. Good beats, good music, good lyrics and good vocals all add up to a fun retro (90's) listen!

Not bad Not bad

Solid enough and full of nostalgia.

A couple of great songs and little to dislike throughout

Está movido y pegajoso el ritmo. Siento que era una canción larga e interminable, como que todas las canciones sonaban igual.

Dad then open for Happy Mondays. Fun album.

// Favs: Creation / The End Score: Decent 3

Good listen. Surprised me. Won't listen all the time but good nostalgia.

Good album…not quite my style…

funky and fun. I'm a sucker for those guitar riffs over a beat

That single Connected is so damn good. Need to listen to more from the album.

Felt very of the age, but a good flow on the album that I did enjoy

The grooves were pretty similar. Funk dance rap just isnt for me

dunno yet

Ziemlich cool!

Omg this made me laugh. It didn’t even sound as dated and funny as I thought it would be. But MUST I hear this before I die? No.

I’ve been waiting for this album to pop up on this list. It was destined for this list, British, trip hop, Brit pop, white hip-hop in one. I bought this album at a Goodwill b/c I like “Get Connected” and was pleasantly surprised by the full album, it was part of my regular post college rotation in Luverne. Lots of chill vibes, good samples, good to drive to. I can take or leave the backup singers, it dates it a bit, but I see what they were going for. It is a bit too one note and too one note to be this long. 3.

Not what I would typically describe as up my alley but I enjoyed this one

Niet helemaal tot het einde kunnen draaien, maar erg leuk en fris.

Leuk plaatje wel. Zou het zelf niet zo snel opzetten, maar kan dit wel waarderen.

Vrolijk.

2 bangers, then the rest was ok

Don't really remember it tbf

Blast from the past. Little bit of it's time but some of still sounds great.

It sounds its age but still pretty good. Some definite bangers and good rhythms all the way through

I like the punchy rhythm tracks, catchy bass-lines, backing vocals & and snippets of sax and guitar. They’re the kind of band that, if you hear them in a bar, you bob your head and say “wow this is great”, but it’s hard to maintain for a full album. Now that I’m a rap aficionado (thanks to 1001 Albums) I can say that the white boy rapping is not one of the high points of the album. They should have had guest appearances by someone like Nas or Ice Cube or at least dropped some explicit lyrics. I would have liked one or two more instrumentals like Chicken Shake.

Nicht alles ist gleich gut gealtert, manches war damals schon reines Filler-Material (All Night Long - och lass mal Schatz, ich geh lieber schon schlafen) aber Connected und, weniger totgespielt, Step It Up kriegen natürlich very much Love. Joah, ich sach dann mal: 2,9.

stereotypical 90s electronic. fits a vibe for sure, but no meat

Connected is a bop for sure. yea this album fades into a funky backbeat groovathon.

It reminded me of R&B when I was 5 y/o, interesting but nothing remarkable

The title-track is a great tune, but the rest of the album, although not really bad, just doesn't keep up. Three stars anyway, cuz it's something I could leave playing in the background.

Enjoyable, though probably 25% too much rap and creative background vocals. Still fun to listen to a dance/electronic album with a killer title track.

Not bad. Kinda like a proto-, poppies version of Thievery Corporation. Connected is still a banger!

Repetitive and a bit boring

I knew the first track, I like it. A few others are nice tasty jams, but overall a bit one-dimensional and got a bit bored by the 2nd half. 3.5 down to 3.

Über diese Platte habe ich mich zumindest nicht geärgert. Wird zum Ende immer besser. Vermag bei mir nicht ganz zu zünden, ist aber nie scheiße.

pretty much essential 90's, not bad but nothing great either

Cool hits but not my cup of tea.

The title track is the only one off this album that I'd ever heard, and it continues to be in rotation for me due to it being on one of the Hackers soundtracks. I enjoyed this album as it played in the background, and am feeling generous enough today to give it 3 stars.

leuk album funky 3/5

What if Madchester was from Essex? Honestly not the worst thing in the world but the lyrics were a bit too woo woo for me and the instrumentation, while pleasant, wasn't hugely distinctive or variable throughout the album. If I'd been a teenager on eccies in the early 90s, then I'd probably love it.

Holy shit, such a Cheese-Fest. At first a was like: hm, nice funky beats, smooth voice talking over the rythm, could this hit the same spot Parliament/Funkadelic or Tribe Called Quest do so good, but I was disappointed. The lyrics are such on the nose, cheesy bullshit and the rythms are nothing I havent heard before

1.5 stars It opens with the one song I know, the best song as far as I could tell from the album. And it’s a song that I’ve heard dozens if not hundreds of times but always zone out because it’s not interesting. It’s background music to the early 90s, and doesn’t serve any other purpose.

Connected is a great song. Sadly, there were other songs on the album.

Certainly fun album, but it just doesn’t vibe with me :(

I remember the title track, the rest was kind of hard to get through.

I can't understand why so many albums with a single good song made this list. Frankly it's infuriating. But this at least had the one good song. In contrast to the albums that somehow made the list despite sucking from start to finish.

Oh damn... OK so you know these folks. Well if your old anyway. This album was everywhere for a minute. At this point it's been on TV shows, commercials, movies, other songs, you name it. It's also very earwormy to me. As soon as I heard it I remembered it all. Not good nostalgia, more like Patty Hearst. It's not bad if you are into this genre. I'm just not.

Yeah, quite fun. Some nice compact funky beats. I heard some of the vocal lines before and associated them with madchester and indie stuff - I never noticed previously that the beats are hip/trip hop like and it has a more electronic feel.

ну скучно

Great beats, inane lyrics, woefully repetitive.

ipod advertising music in all the worse ways. It is so unremarkable and nothing music it slips into a curious awfulness. 2.

The 90s can keep this one.

quite fun but eh?

Ok to listen to once but I don’t need to do it again. Some songs are just fillers here. Maybe I am this harsh with the record because I have never been a huge rap fan.

I am sure that back in the day I would have vurned my face off in aomw club dancing to this or some other similar club-hop 90’s english combo. But in thw cold light of day, its not an album for me. Does not hold my attention or interest.

Boring ass UK disco

This would normally be my kinda thing, but I found this overly simplistic and repetitive. The musical equivalent of "are we there yet?"

Very of it's time. Just by the sound of this I could immediately place it within a few year period, which in itself is quite something I guess. Didn't particularly enjoy the album as a whole and not sure it really deserves to be on the list. 2 will do

Damn this is boring… Not bad, just boring. Just more Brit Bias… and considering how many good hip hop albums are missing, it’s kind of just pathetic the people who put this list together are allowed to talk music ever.

Simultaneously feel way too young and too old to enjoy this. Maybe drugs would help.

This was fun, I knew this one a little bit. I don't know if I will go back to it, but I enjoyed it the first time

dance. 1992 -> 2

I found this album replacement-level. The lead singer has an okay flow, not good, not bad. It's got a decent enough groove, and "Connected" is a good enough song, but it's fairly forgettable.

Inoffensive - well, unless you count the fairly terrible early ‘90s “rapping” - and bland. Though it sports a warm jazzy funk and hiphop vibe, it doesn’t vary much or leave much of an impression. I’ve always liked the namesake single that leads off the album, the rest just floated by.

Didn’t grab me - wannabe triphop without the class

Very upbeat funky jazzy hip hop music. The lyrics could be a bit more substantial but was very fun listen

Don’t know this and the album cover is hilariously 90s. Old school jazzy dance music. Hip hop but British. Way more dance heavy and kinda fun to listen to. Easier to listen to while doing something or moving around because when trying to just sit and listen and take in the music, it gets repetitive. Overall it’s okay. Probably not my choice of album as it doesn’t really stand out over the whole length. 2/5

I didn't really finish it but I get the the gist. Psychedelia infused electronic pop music. Akin to Dee lites, and various others. Theres some charm here worth considering in the lexicon of music. But substance is not here.

Nice to have a good groove, but I run out of steam quickly much as I like what I am hearing at the moment.

That title track is inspired. The rest... not so much.

I think an initial reaction to this might be that it feels very of-its-time, reflecting dance music still in its infancy. But by the time this came out, New Order, Primal Scream, and Massive Attack had already created house-influenced music that was more layered and - crucially - more varied (to say nothing of the actual house artists making more vital music at the time). There are some good beats on this, but they're rather simple and don't show much evolution over their runtime. The pace is steady and relatively slow, the vocals laid-back to match. Outside of a flute that pops up occasionally, there are few music surprises that really pop. This is fairly catchy, so I find it impossible to outright dislike, but it's too short on exciting and unique moments for me to really like either.

British rap, the same thing every single time

Was there only one drum sound in the 90s??

As horribly dated as you might expect from a band called Stereo MCs. I kind-of liked some of their songs the first time round, and one or two are still catchy, but the whole album is very samey and quite annoying in places.

Lobby music 2 stars

Not the biggest electronica fan, and the album itself went on for too long. Someone the individual songs are good, but on the whole I would probably only listen to those songs (like the first track), and not the album as whole.

Annoying

Bem nada a ver. Conhecia a primeira música Muito usada em ads

Me: So then, random album generator. What special album have you got for me having reached landmark album #100? 1001: Well done! Time to get your ears around Connected by Stereo MCs! Me: Interesting! I loved Step It Up at the time, and Connected has a great 90s groove. However, now I'm listening to it, I'm concerned! After the opening Connected, there are a lot of beige tracks such as Ground Level and Everything. The highlight of All Night Long is the long period of silence in the middle, with the low point coming when you realise the song hasn't finished! The second half of the album is better than the first half, but that's not a huge achievement. Pressure and Creation are both solid foot tappers, but I expect more than this from a list of albums that I Must listen to. 2 stars, and try harder next time! 1001: Sorry. 😢. I'll try harder for album 200.

A very corny and empty album. Not really terrible but completely asinine.

Starter pack 90's band

Nä. Pallar inte 1001 mediokra brittiska album från 90-talet som man absolut hade kunnat dö utan att ha hört. Connected är väl helt ok, men i övrigt har jag haft tråkigt med den här skivan.

Fashionably unfashionable in a post-Madchester haze, this Brit crew rides the tail end of the baggy train with a funky swagger that’s more endurance test than ecstatic groove. They spread 70-plus minutes of well-meaning, occasionally catchy hip-hop-house fusion that might’ve felt fresher a few years earlier—or trimmed down to a lean 35. "Connected" is the jam that justifies the price of admission, and "Step It Up" earns its keep with punchy horns and a touch of uplift. But like Deee-Lite without the cosmic kitsch, they stretch one good idea into a dozen pleasant-but-pale variations. "Sketch" even photocopies their own hook, just subtler and less fun.

Generic 90s band. Just ok

At this point, I'm convinced that every album that features a song from the soundtrack of the 1995 classic film Hackers is in this book.

Neutral with lot of boring parts. Did not touched me at all.

I like this type of Alternative Rock and Dance Music combo, but I don't think Stereo MC's are among the best acts to do it. Still, it's not terrible a makes for acceptable background music. Key tracks: Connected

90's one hit wonder. it all sounds the same. 2.5 stars

Colorful and almost fun to listen to, but it’s too long and wears itself out. Broad in the scope of the genres and sounds it touches which results in a kind of unfocused album. It’s also pretty dated in a way that’s difficult for me to ignore. I also did not find Rob B.’s performance on the mic all that compelling or charismatic, which is pretty critical for this kind of music in my opinion. Another one where I perhaps too American to enjoy this. I felt worn out by the halfway point. The mixing holds up.

Ok so it had the one song??? I don't know who this is impressing

Really not very good. Wouldn't listen again

Saying the album is worth listening to is a stretch but the singles from this album are bangers making it a very hard thing to rate really feels in-between a 2 and 3 for me.

De pana a veces me preguntó cuáles son los requisitos para entrar en esta lista de 1001. O es el álbum de country más x posible, o es un álbum como este que tú dices, pero cómo llego esto aquí

In the realm of hip-hop it was pretty listenable, but still not something I'd leave playing if I had the option to turn it off. Occasional background singer parts broke the monotony of the drum+bass. Didn't do much for me.

Some of this is kess annoying than the rest - rather musical, yet still rap in the end.

A few good party songs here and there. Not a great album.

Not my thing

Very british (derogatory)

p695. 1992. 2 stars Classy early Brit rap/house music, let down by filler and lack of variety. Most of the songs sound the same.

Certainly of its day, but quite enjoyable. High 2s. Opening track is seminal.

1. connected - 3.5 2. level - 2.5 3. everything - 1.5 4. zketch - 2 5. fade - 1.5 6. night - 1.5 7. ztep - 1.5 8. fire - 1 9. prezzure - 1.5 10. zhake - 1.5 11. creation - 1 12. end - 1.5

Not keen. Never have been. Mild funky hip hop by numbers. File with Faithless. Mild dance music by numbers.

This low rent version on the Gorillaz was as boring as it was unoriginal. Easily skip this for those who did it better.

The opening track is a jam, and there's scattered tasty 90s moments, but too much of this bloated album sounds dated

Now this is uber nostalgic! Don't think I've ever listened to Connected/Step It Up without it being in film or radio. Other songs are quite generic.

Mwah niet slecht maar niet echt boeiend

Dull, largely uninspiring set of songs from an early 90s fallow period in British music. Connected and Step it Up narrowly rise above the level of mediocrity, but it’s all largely forgettable. Too ‘cool’ for its own good and lacking any passion.

Primitive rapping ability over somewhat interesting beats. Not sure why it’s here

This is so late 80s early 90s sounding it’s crazy. It’s almost easy listening with beats. You’ve got your British guy sing-rapping over various harmless beats and melodies. No abrasive sounds in the whole thing. I don’t hate it. It’s done background music. But not a lot interesting going on with the possible exception of the title track.

All night long was kinda cool. I like how bass forward this album is. Aside from that these guys had one song idea and repeated it ad nauseum. It’s just a break beat, a bass line, a non-catchy hook, and a guy “rapping”. Seriously for a group called Stereo MCs the rapping on this is atrocious if you can call it rapping, it’s more like talking with some end rhymes.

Hmm, mislim, da vem kaj bo to. O ja, od nekje poznam komad "Connected". Ta je čist kul. Zelo of the time and place (early 90s Britain). Je pa 5 minut mal dolga za komad k je cel cajt eno in isto. In za vse komade, ki sledijo. Nekak forgettable, en tip kinda rappa, uzad ena ženska zapoje vsake tolk, muska je v vsakem komadu throughout the song ista cel cajt, ni neke blazne variacije, velik ponavljanja refrena. Naslovnica je bl zanimiva k sam album.

One 5 star song and a lot of filler

Connected - 3/5 Ground Level - 3/5 Everything - 1/5 Sketch - 2/5 Fade Away - 2/5 All Night Long - 1/5 Step It Up - 3/5 Playing With Fire - 4/5 Pressure - 2/5 Chicken Shake - 3/5 Creation - 4/5 The End - 3/5 Average score: 2.6/5 ⭐️⭐️ not quite my tempo. it picked up some steam toward the last half though, which i can appreciate

Of all the forgettable albums I’ll listen to for this list, I hope I forget this one the most.

Litt kjedelig i lengden.

It does what it does pretty well, which is supply danceable, mindless beats. This is much more suitable for a 90-themed dance club than active listening. While some of the songs are catchy they are lacking in substance (both lyrically and musically), and the production style, background sound effects and synths, and rapping make it very dated. I feel like they were trying very hard to be cool and trendy, rather than trying to break ground. And that’s ok, but it doesn’t make for essential listening. I assume its inclusion on the list reflects the author’s bias toward pop from the UK. 2.5 stars, rounding down.

Dance/rap/electronic group. Not bad music. Good sound. Even rap is old school. Nice.

There's nothing offensive about this. I admire how unapologetically English it is. Most songs are decent, but go on for far too long. You know what you are getting with this within the first handful of tracks. 'Everything' picks up the pace. You can tell that 'Creation' is going to be a single as soon as you hear it. This might have felt fresh in 1992, but it feels incredibly dated now. I imagine it would have felt dated within a decade of releasing. I'm not sure why this is on the list.

-…yeah, this one was a bit of a nothingburger for me. all the songs blended together but not in a good way, i honestly can’t remember a single sound from here. just hype moments and aura ig -Creation was pretty good from what i remember. there is a silver lining here but yeah, not for me i suppose -Favorites: Ground Level, Creation

Mediocre

This definitely sucks

The definition of meh

If you were to distill the year 1992 british music scene into a single sound, it might just be this album. Connected is a quintessential 90s artifact, a mix of hip hop, electronic, and acid jazz that is undeniably groovy, though perhaps a bit trapped in its own era. It is mostly an alright album, it's a polished, feel good record that hits high highs with its singles "Connected" and "Step It Up" but struggles to justify its full runtime with its repetitive beats and loops, and laid back but mediocre rapping from the whitest rapper alive. It’s probably perfect for a retro dance party, a morning run, or nostalgic background listening, but doesn't offer any depth or variety required for a focused, front to back listening session.

1/9/26. Interesting, feels like an accessible format for hip-hop for the time it came out. Enjoyable and inoffensive, but I think a bit forgetful.

Sorry but, easy listening radio rap is really not my thing...

Oh...kay?

Connected and Step It Up are good nostaligia trips although rest of the album is pretty unremarkable. I seem to remember the lead singer being a bit of a bell end but cannot remember why. Mystified why this on the list - what ground did it break? Who of todays artists owe their career to the Stereo MC's? Why not put the Venga Boyz on the list?

Why does this sound like the most generic, inoffensive rap I've ever heard?

No cuts on this album I particularly liked or disliked.

Inoffensive lobby music. Generic. Perhaps a victim of its commercial success. Not bad in any way, just not very exciting.

Didn't really care for it.

Am I supposed to dance to this?

Another in a long series of albums that probably sounded great at raves in Manchester in the 90's but otherwise are not good. I'll give it 2 stars because none of the songs are egregiously long and it's almost Christmas, so I'm feeling generous.

Should’ve been called “connected and 13 other attempts at recreating connected”. Great song, average album.

Electronic pop rap. That's three strikes from me.

There have been allot of albums with a one hit wonder on this list. this one was more : "i think i heard this? maybe on a commercial?" Not too bad but nothing special to me

This really doesnt belong in this list. Its ok and fun but just another album.
