Reviews (page 3 of 8)

This is 90's British Rave Music. That context matters. At a 90's Rave, I can see how this might be the perfect music. Always floating at roughly the same energy level to enjoy being in a crowd of people while on mind-altering substances. Although, I suspect it would actually be better mixed live by DJ who can feel and shape the energy of a crowd in the moment. Divorced from that context... it doesn't work. It's not interesting to listen to while on a run or driving to work by myself.

I enjoyed this to an extent, but it is way too long

Det kan være en moderne klassiker så mye det vil, men to timer e for langt.

It's alright - nothing particularly groundbreaking or innovative. Standout tracks - Saint Angle, and Jah the Seventh Seal

Not a fan of drum and bass but can appreciate the musicianship of this album

The good news about this album being too long is that you don’t really need to listen to anything after the first track in order to hear all this album has to offer. I understand this is foundational for the genre so I’ll be nice and give it a 3.

If this was leaner I might be more inclined to give a better review.

I mean, fijner dan die eerdere dnb plaat, maar nog steeds zo veels te lang. Een naar boven afgeronde 3

Prettig dat dit soort platen altijd komen als ik nakijkwerk heb. Goede nakijkplaat.

6/10 - I do like some drum and bass but this is just too long, but not objectively bad though

I actually really enjoyed this, but once again it was enjoyed over a period of three days. I can't imagine digesting this in one sitting. I'd feel so fatigued. Great house music, especially with the addition of the female vocals. I can only take house music in small doses and this album is far too long. 2.5

Really cool, sort of production/sample heavy house, seems like it'd be good for studying etc

It was interesting but became redundant rather fast.

Ooh, a portal back to some terrible Sydney nightclub in 2001, at 2 in the morning, with no responsibilities and a head full of something or other. Also really good focused work music!

Pleasant enough. Is it must listen? It’s a good example of drum and bass. So maybe. 3 stars.

Goes on too long

I would have enjoyed it more if the songs were half the length, maybe more

Fine, I guess. I understand how this became the progenitor of all D&B but I still don't actually care for this kind of music too much. At least sober and in the light of day

Um… not sure why this is here? I mean just listening to it is actually hard. It’s good background, bad foreground music. But certainly not an album I needed to hear before I die. So… 3 cause I did like it in the background. Boolean: No, really no. Something else from 95 really could go here instead

I remember at some point in the later 90s buying a Goldie album (not this one), curious about all the critics' hype about the esoteric aspects of drum-n-bass, and feeling more than vaguely disappointed that it didn't really conform to my idea of what makes music interesting to listen to. I was a little hopeful when I saw that we got a Goldie album for today, imagining his apparently acclaimed debut album might have a little more variety than the later one I bought, but also fairly resigned that this could cover a lot of familiar territory. I guess it falls somewhere in between all of that, as the epic title track does indeed have a bit more variety at times, and Diane Charlamagne's voice continues to break up the too-precise and mathematical-feeling drum beats, but it's also nearly two hours' worth of fairly similar-sounding music that seems remarkably impersonal. The other tracks that seemed somewhat distinctive were "State of mind" and "Adrift".

enjoyed having this in the background as I worked but didn't do a lot for me otherwise

Doesn't quite escape the feeling that it's background music for a hipster clothing store. And there are moments in its 2 hour length where you find it yourself thinking "Well, this could have been an email." But as background music that iutstays its welcome it's okay.

On comprend l'influence, l'album est un peu trop long et s'essouffle sur la fin.

This list might be doing something to me because there were moments I genuinely enjoyed on this one. They overstayed their welcome and were surrounded by moments I wasn’t a fan of but I was still surprised.

inoffensive turntable

the album cover concerns me. 21 minutes for one song? bonkers, you are not pink floyd. Would I listen again: i like a little bit of drum and bass. not this much Deserves to be on this list: why the hell is it here 2.5

This was cool but it sure is way too long

Cerramos semana corta con un artista que no ubico para nada, lo cual me agrada. Reflexivo, introspectivo. Algunas canciones como "Sea of Tears" me hacen acordar a proyectos actuales como DOMi & JD Beck. Me gustó de a ratos. Me resultó repetitivo y en un punto me agotó. Hasta el lunes, gente

Don't love but I understand Goldie is the man to jungleists

I usually hate these British electronic albums, but I didn't hate this one. By no means does it mean it is good or belongs to be on this list. The biggest problem as everyone knows is the length. This made fine background music while I worked (until the song with monkey noises came on). Is this album bad? No. Is this album good? No. Would I listen to this again? No. Low 3.

More interesting than other drum and bass music I’ve heard, but ultimately still grates after a while. This album is nearly two hours long as well (the double album, they did release a single version).

Started as pleasently surprising frutiger aero + amen break ahh drums. Jungle. No monke though. Album ended with my thoughts about it ending. Dreams, even.

Not bad. A decent easy-listening drum and bass album

It was alright. Nothing special.

such an interesting album - some songs i really resonated with and others i didn’t. the soundscapes/sampling was lovely and i would return to this album when i’m in the mood to zone out and vibe out

Honestly some really great music just way too damn long

Didn’t really leave an impact on me. But was alright to work to so 3 stars

Call me tarzan the way I love jungle

album #23 DnB is not really my thing, but i like the vibes throughout this album. does the title song need to be 20 minutes? absolutely not, but i do respect it! i think a lot of the people who give this a low rating and call it slop, drivel, or for low-iqs are simply overly pretentious people who think they are better than dnb. probably classist too lol! you are not better than people because you like to huff lou reed's farts <3 it's easy to see the lasting influence this had on dnb in general, even as someone who isn't a huge fan. a lot of the synth injections were super atmospheric, which i liked! i wouldn't listen to the whole thing again, but definitely 1 or 2 songs to keep :) it deserves it's place on the list because of how it essentially brought jungle to the uk dnb scene. very cool. ꩜ favourite track(s): saint angel, sea of tears ꩜ least favourite track(s): adrift ꩜ album rating: ★★★☆☆ ꩜ number of albums left to review: 1,066 ꩜ number of albums from the list that i agree with being on the list: 10 (+1 Timeless) ꩜ albums from the list that I would consider on my list: 3 ꩜ albums from the list I won't include on my list: 19

I enjoyed this more than I expected. I had expected to appreciate it technically, but for drum and bass to just not be my sound. However, this is a very chill album with the soulful vocals of early 90s house music, but with more complex beats that have helped it age better. This would've made really good background music in my studying days.

Never have I ever chosen to listen to a whole trance, dub, or jungle album on my own...that said...I was stunned that this was going to be a two hour ordeal. Then, I looked down while working and had happily just rolled right through the whole thing and onto a slightly different LTJ Bukem track. It was pretty good and made great work accompaniment.

Has its moments, like the atmosphere, but pretty monotonous in the long run.

Not a genre I'm that familiar with - but will accept that it owns its place here as an EDM milestone. I didn't mind it, but can't see myself coming back to it

Līdz galam nenoklausījos, nav gluži mans žanrs, bet vispār patika.

Timeless is considered an important and influential release in the history of drum and bass, but it didn’t really connect with me on a personal level. Without the context, I found it difficult to fully appreciate its significance.

essential drum and bass 90s vibes. so reminds me of vintage clothing and r

It can work as background music

Not my favorite and not exactly sure why it’s on this list?

As background noise during gaming, this album is incredible. Perfectly engaging and yet spacey enough to warrant it falling behind my focus. As a general focused listen, it's frustrating. Dance and electronic music, in most cases for me, needs to be related to something physical; working out, actually dancing, going for a run, just SOMETHING. But when I'm listening to these records either on my phone in bed, or at my computer, or in my car due to a lack of ability to currently do otherwise, their purpose is ultimately thrown out the window. Also for the record I listened to the full 105-minute version of this album. It does not need to be that long.

I remember much of this from my university days, sharing as I did, an house full of folk who weren’t averse to drum and bass. I’m not a huge fan of Deb but this isn’t bad in places. Despite its title however, it’s not Timeless but rather of a time and to an extent sounds a bit dated now

The algorithm really pumping out the "you weren't cool enough to listen to this then it came out" albums. I have to be honest, I don't LOVE it, but can fully appreciate the impact it had on the UK music scene.

I liked it but it went on for awhile

I've never really liked drum and bass music so I unsurprisingly didn't love this. There were some moments throughout that didn't have a relentless dnb beat and were more reminiscent of r&b/soul, like in State of Mind and Adrift, so I did enjoy those parts of the album.

its ok but its drum and bass. I can enjoy it as background as its not too demanding 2.5

Good tracks, bit long though so tended to zone out for large periods.

I’ve experienced some wonderful success overcoming some significant challenges, and getting through this album was one of them. Not that it was bad, or even necessarily too long given what it was. It is just somethjng that resisted any kind of close attention being paid to it. In the end I probably enjoyed it way more in retrospect than I did while it was happening. I was thinking 2 throughout, and now I’m giving it 3.

I'm a bit conflicted. On the one hand it's a pretty good album overall. Good compositions and production. On the other hand it was a slog to get through. It's almost 2 fucking hours! I don't have the patience for that.

Electronic dance music is admittedly not my thing. This album is really, really long and it just sounds very repetitive to me. I had a lot of busy work at my desk today, so it was fine to just play it in the background while I was doing other things, but I wouldn't seek this one out to listen to again. Not bad in any way, but just not something I would listen to.

I liked it more than I thought I would

The Rabbit could never make it to its remix

Good just too long. I like the style and ambient vibe. But I skipped through songs at the end as I was getting bored. No standouts. They sounded very similar to me. 02-12-2026

Alright but some of the songs are longer then they need to be

This was cool but it dragged in the second half. This album was ahead of its time, some of it is dated but some of it still sounds fresh. The first 45 minutes or so was going to get a 4 but it just kept going too long and the last few songs were to similar sounding to be necessary. Cut a few songs and this is an easy 4 but as it is, it’s a 3 for me.

Like the vibe, will listen to it again.

An important, groundbreaking, influential piece of music with some great iconic sounds but as an album doesn’t flow terribly well. Dos the album title track really have to be 20 minutes long? Having said that would I be right in saying it was when jungle music became drum and bass and arguably then taken seriously as a musical genre?

Long but the length wasn't an issue but wasn't super enthralling either

21 minute opening track, dont pmo. Every song thereafter was like 7 mins long. I'd never sit down and listen to this intentionally but I'd put it on in the background. Ps2 instrumentals were cool

I have a few notes before I give my rating. 1. Knowing that the main two audiences for this platform are from the US and the UK, I think there are genres from both sides that the other generally underrates. For the Brits, they tend to dislike hip-hop and country- I think that they don't really get why rap and hip-hop is important, but that's fine. For Americans, however, they really do not like DnB and British electronic music. That's a real shame. I love this stuff! I think it's one of the best exports to ever come out of the British Isles. 2. That being said. This album is waaaaay too long and has too many disparate parts. There are some things on here I quite like, but they're buried between mountains of mediocre music, none of which really relates to other parts. It just seems like a DnB compilation album of music that wasn't good enough to make it on the first compilation. I did really enjoy some songs, but a 20 minute opening track? Let's be serious. Don't know why this is on the list.

I liked state of mind :)

very cool, easy to get lost in which i really liked. inner city life is great

It's not bad isn't something I would choose to listen to.

Too long and repetitive

"Solid DnB fairly ruled by annoying vocals" is a reaction I have frequently to these sort of records. Do you want to make music, or do you want to be the soundtrack in a shoe store?

pretty good. Very Everything But The Girl

Not bad, but a bit samey after a while.

Favorite Track: Jah the Seventh Seal

Nice. But tracks were too long for me

Chill lowkey D&B Neuro type music. Great for studying or have something in the background, thats not to distractong but you start to move your head

that was in fact Timeless. it was emotional, had cinematic elements. not much to dislike here

++: Saint Angel, Sea of Tears, A Sense of Rage, Adrift, Kemistry +: This Is a Bad, Nah the Seventh Seal +-: Timeless, State of Mind, Still Life, Angel, You & Me 6,7/10

actually enjoyed this for the most part. the length and the random seagull sounds are my only real complaints.

очень необычное и запоминающее звучание. ощущаешь себя погруженной в инди игру нулевых. треки на фон зайдут еще как

Loved the first part, then got really bored.

Very well constructed. There's always a repetitive part, but something new changes in the background or moves to the front and becomes the repetitive part before it gets boring and then the motif comes back later on. There's a lot going on in general, but it all fits together well. That being said, it should have been 2 albums. It's way too long. Disc 1 would have been 4 star. And it does get boring eventually. Favorite song: sea of tears

Fine as background I suppose - but I'm not really interested in a full 2 hours of pretty anodyne dance/trance/jungle.

Only listened to half but I really liked it except idk if songs need to ever be 15 minutes but who am I to say

It went on too long

Songs are just to long and there isn't enough variety within them to justify it, I like them just not 7-10 minutes of them

I’d don’t know man. Some of its good

Groovy sounds of 90s London, innit Bruv.

This is how I would imagine it sounds as molecules crash, converge, and create a zygote into a baby. It's peaceful and soft, then chaotic and manic and everything inbetween. A world inside a world.

Some gems in here, but a lot of very long songs that don't make much of an impact. Great study/work album though. 3/5

Fuck me, another two hour long drum and bass album. It sounds fine, and I kinda actually enjoy it, but again, two goddamn hours of music that all sounds the same. Take your 3 and leave me alone.

The album has some cool beats, it’s something that I could just have on in the background . 2.5 stars

Listened while working and was good for productivity.

This is a really long album of dance/electronic music. It was okay.

Really long songs. It was fine.

This is bad and sense of rage are standouts

I’ve never heard of Goldie before, but I see that this is yet another nineties electronica (okay, specifically drum and bass, for all the taxonomy sticklers out there) album from the UK. Also, much to my dismay, I see that this album clocks in at just under two hours. I’m definitely too mature to be stewing over that fact as I type this. I don’t hate listening to stuff like this on principle, but like jazz music, I feel I have no frame of reference other than “okay, that was fine to listen to, and it was definitely music.” Maybe Timeless will be the album that finally breaks through to me. Timeless wasn’t really my speed. I didn’t think this was necessarily a bad album, and I didn’t find anything grating about the music, but it was just tough to get into, and then get through. The title track was a slog to me. There were some distinct segments to it, but those segments that broke away from the main flow of the music just weren’t interesting to me, and when the main flow of the song came back, my ears couldn’t discern anything that had changed or evolved with the melodies. Diane Charlemagne’s vocals were really nice though, and they definitely added a distinctly nineties feeling to the songs that she was featured on. I enjoyed the next song, “Saint Angel” a bit more, but like the opening track, it just didn’t justify its run time to me. I did like “State of Mind” more than the first two tracks. I liked the gentler melody that wasn’t as reliant on rapid fire drum machines, and Diane Charlemagne’s vocals were very welcome again. “State of Mind” is when I started to get more into this album and finding more things about it that I enjoyed. “Sea of Tears” was probably my favorite song on the album. I liked the way that the song developed (which, at twelve minutes long, was a welcome thing to hear), and each different segment of the song felt like it was building on the previous segment, and adding more emotions to the sound. I really enjoyed the bass sounds on “A Sense of Rage.” I felt like this was one of the more unique songs on the album, especially with how the bass was utilized. “Angel” was really nice too, mostly due to more of Diane Charlemagne’s singing. All the other songs that I didn’t mention were fine, but they just didn’t bring anything to the table that I found noteworthy. This isn’t the type of album that I’d sit down and actively listen to again, but I wouldn’t mind having it on in the background while I take care of some tedious computer work.

State of mind is a tremendous song. Uplifting, beautifully sang with a heartfelt message. Inner city life is a near as possible a distillation of panic and calm in the same record. Those 2 songs are 2 of the best released in the 1990s. The rest of this album is ok but one for the drum and base heads really. It meanders a bit to put it politely.

Sprawling Drum & Bass odyssey of an album. It's pretty good too. But of course the 21 minute title track pretty much overshadows everything else, almost rendering the other songs unnecessary. Key tracks: Timeless

Good music to code to but not really that great to sit and really listen too.

pretty spacey but cool sounds. Sci fi music to cruise through space to (or; what Paul Atreides listened to in his room). Kind of morphs into songs from The Matrix which I like less.

Decent techno/electronica, just not to my taste exactly. Some samples I had heard used in other, later songs.

I enjoyed this album listen! I generally like lofi techno/electronic music. This album felt a little long and repetitive to me but it was nice music to have on in the background while I was working on various tasks. Overall, I liked this album fine but would probably only listen to it again if I needed some chill lofi music to have on in the background while I was working or doing other tasks.

This is ok. A little rough in places

90s drum n’ bass. Groundbreaking for electronica. Loong, repetitive songs, but that’s the genre.

Buena grabación en el estudio y gracias a las voces femeninas resulta soportable. vale para escuchar de fondo.

1. Never heard of Goldie in my life, but apparently he’s a very prominent EDM figure? 2. Wtf, the first song is 21min… this is going to be a long listen 3. Ah ok, you can already tell 5min into the first song that he’s a D&B artist 4. Timeless sounds like multiple songs/ideas/beats spliced together, dude just needs to stick with one or split into multiple tracks 5. This is the exact music I imagine was played at the 90s rave clubs 6. Ok, State of Mind has some more jazzy funk to it, maybe it won’t all be the same D&B rave music 7. Sea of Tears has weird as hell background sounds 8. Adrift is very vibe-y, liking it a lot 9. Why does every song have to be more than like 6min… 10. I can see why Inner City Life is his most popular song, it’s definitely the most easy listening and good bops 11. I’m a huge EDM fan, but D&B tends to be one of my least preferred genre of it. The album overall is good, but it has the same negatives I have from most D&B in that it feels like the songs blend together a lot and there’s not much variety overall

interesting, but not my style

Ganska tråkigt att lyssna på, men bra bakgrundsmusik. Trea

Never really sure how to rate music clearly made for clubs/raves. If I was zonked out of my mind and at a club this may have been a 5 star banger but for listening sober while I'm working in my office it was not a great listening experience. I don't think it was bad but really no idea how to judge it so giving it 3 stars.

That is very good. I don't recall hearing it before, which is a shame because I can D&B all day long. High 3s but imagine it will grow to a four with repeats.

Only recently discovered bass and drum as a result of this project. I like it, but I'm still not sure I get it. Perhaps it is a think in this space, but this album seemed overly long and repetitive. Like the intent of most songs was extending the thread until it became tiresome and therefore just there (and for ADD me becoming more forgettable). I'm neutral here. Perhaps I'll try again, but my wife hated it and it is two hours...so, probably not.

I enjoyed it, more complicated and involved I would have figured but entirely way too long.

Not bad but all these jungle/breakbeat trip hop style electronics need to let me be in the right mood for them. There's enough variety on here though to keep it interesting.

A bit on the long side. Might have received an extra half star if it was half the length. I'll say 3/5

There's a lot of blastbeat drums in this, damn. I thought this was gonna be some kind of "golden oldie" Nanci Griffith type album and was not expecting the jungle clinic.

90s drum and bass perfection 🤌🏻

timeless indeed!

I like this but if this comes at the expense of Amon Tobin I'm going to be pissssssssssed.

Oh! Something I know nothing about. I've never heard of Goldie before. And wow...105:47 run time!? Fun album. Got my D&B fix for a while.

Not bad. Has some good atmosphere and drum and bass lines but the songs and album as a whole goes on and on and on. The vibe is on point though.

Nice drum and bass album that I wasn't expecting. It was nice to hear something different today with this really good album. I have not heard of him before today but his story is interesting and the music is really good, if you like d&b. It reminds me of listening to edm in the basement of my friends house smoking weed when I was in my early 20s. Good times.

I was dreading that the hour and a half ish length would be a complete turn off but listening to it while working on something it turned out to be a great companion for just working on my stuff. Its atmosphere is more laid back than I imagined, more new agey and also more RnB inspired. Again, it makes for a pleasant experience when you just want to have something in the background that isn't just ambient music. So yeah, pretty good I think

Alright

It's Goldie, it's timeless, it's jungle

fun, if a bit overlong

Appreciate the concept and liked the more ambient tracks but not a dnb guy

D&B, oddly familiar sounding

Interesting, ambient - I quite enjoyed it for a change. I don't think I'd seek it out again if I were in the mood for ambient-y things though.

Wipeout: the album. Makes me want to play Wipeout.

not a big fan of this music but it sounds ok

not for me, but not unpleasant

The 21 minute intro song is great but the rest of the album is pretty hit or miss I'm not generally into jungle music though. 6/10 Favourite: Timeless Least Favourite: Adrift

Dad- 6 Mom- 5 Mike- NA Lori- 5 Michael- NA Miles- NA Cole- NA Avg- 5.33

Nice drum ‘n’ bass with a mix of samples. The album actually takes some moments to breathe too. It’s not just wall-to-wall breakbeats. There are some mellower intros and outros and the occasional softer track that changes up the formula. I actually could have skipped those bits — I’d rather maintain the high energy. But I enjoyed this overall.

There's something really impressive about an album that starts with a 21 minute track. I love that kind of boldness... not all of the time, but with this kind of album I definitely did. I blinked and this album finished. It was amazing though, I really thoroughly enjoyed it. I listened to it while in a flow state hammering out some interface designs at work for an all-day work event and it was a perfect thing to listen to while being so focused. I really felt like this album breathed and that's unusual for this sound.

Good ol' 90s Electronic music. Drum 'n Bass was a staple for me around this time, while attending raves for breakdancing and other things. The music is upbeat, drums are fast, incorporating airy sounds and harmonizing female vocals. Reminds me of my youth, but not something I would listen to regularly.

What in the Peepshow is this all about? State Of Mind wasn’t a bad tune but the rest….not for me. Meh.

Reading the reviews on here I thought I was in for a bad ride. This is actually pretty good. Not sure what these people are smoking. It may not be Dark side of the moon or the Abbey road but its definitely a must listen.

Jungle is massive - it's nearly 2 hours long. There are some beautiful textures though. It's much more mature and definitive than I expected.

It's dreamy, it's percussive... it's a little too long (see almost any 90s album, including the classics), but it's good. Would probably kill as a DJ set, I almost get a sense of FOMO from trying to be more attentive than it likely is seeking from a listener.

drum and bass

I'm not the biggest fan of 90s electronic. I do love a lot of electronic music but something about 90s electronic drives me nuts. A lot of the times I think it's the vocals or I just find it kind of boring. This record is actually pretty decent though. I still don't love the vocals or the drums but they do some pretty cool psych stuff which I really vibe with.

This is vibey ear porn. One of those that I don't gravitate towards, but when its on, its easy to get sucked into it. Its trancelike and flowy. Easy to vibe to. The drum machine sounds like 90s, which is slightly annoying, but the cool bass lines and synths keep this going.

For me was 1995 one of the best years in music, but Trip Hop was not my fist choice. Some tracks sounds still very fresh

mis primeros pasos en DnB

It's OK, I guess?

Extremely nice atmospheric drum and bass; really captures the urban spirit of the scene. I wouldn't listen to all 105 minutes of it at once most of the time, but at least a disc or even a few tracks would be solid.

Nice music to listen to while working. Reminds me of the YouTube lofi music craze of today. Has some R&B vibes and obviously electronica. Reminded of some Radiohead productions. Inner City Life makes me think of Flight of the Conchords. Notable songs include Saint Angel, State of Mind, This Is A Bad, Sea Of Tears, A Sense Of Rage, Adrift, You And Me.

Curioso. No conocía a Goldie. Se me hizo largo, pero es es curioso.

This album has some highs and some lows. Some tracks have some deep instrumentation you can hear with good headphones. Where it lacks though is the progression. Many tracks run LOOOOONG and don't progress into anything more than the first 120 seconds give you. There's some good stuff here but it would have been more impactful at half the length.

It's fine, I guess. I definitely didn't hate it but felt that there was not enough going on. Looking at the cover, I was expecting a sci-fi/cyberpunk sort of vibe, but at the end, I didn’t really get what the atmosphere was supposed to be. The songs didn’t really convey anything in particular atmosphere-wise. If the songs had leaned into trying to represent some sort of visuals, it would’ve been a lot better. A feature-length sci-fi-themed drum and bass epic would’ve slapped, but this is not it, unfortunately. This album had a lot of potential, in my opinion, but turned to be kind of disappointing.

I had never heard this before. It's great for when you are working and need something in the background. I don't think I will ever listen to this again, but glad I heard it.

I don’t think this music is intended as work-from-home background music played from an iPhone (is any music?), but it functions nicely for that purpose. I only knew the first track going in, but the radio edit lol. It’s long, it’s repetitive, I probably wouldn’t have put this on otherwise. But I liked it fine.

On paper this should be a solid 5 star album for me. I love DnB and particularly adore breakbeat, but there's something that causes this album to fail to click with me. Maybe it's the vocals, or the fact that every track is just too slow? There's moments where I expect everything to start kicking off, but it just slows down and then fades away without ever really hitting whatever it is I'm expecting here. It's possible that I also might be slightly put off by Goldie himself, seeing as he's always come over as a bit of a dick, with a big chip on his shoulders for never making it big. Maybe this is an album made for other producers? I have a similar problem with other "golden age of DnB" artists, like Roni Size , it's all a bit ambient and tame compared to what was coming just around the corner in the late 90s and early 00s.

20 minute song is preposterous but its ok because its good saint angel is goated. the wheelback at 4 minutes is aura the bass on state of mind is so annoying

It's one hell of a long album. Listening critically rather than passively takes a mammoth effort, only rivalled so far by Bitches Brew. 'State of Mind', a nice little bass hook and pleasant enough soul melody, is strung out for over 7 minutes when 3 will do. 'Sea of Tears' has a pleasingly ambient 6 minutes, then segueing into a more beat-heavy 6 minutes. It becomes a repeating soundscape after a while, with minimal variations on a theme. Dropping in a soul melody here and there, the ever present synth swell, the unrelenting jungle beats. Certain moments, such as the heavily jazz-leaning firebreak of 'Adrift', or the well constructed build of 'Kemistry', or the Prodigy-similar 'You and Me' give further interest - but otherwise this album is to be treated as an atmospheric companion rather than an album to actively enjoy.

Drum n bass is not my go-to, but as far as this genre is concerned, this album is decent. I wouldn't pick it but I don't mind it. There's enough "color" (vocals, strings, etc) beyond the underlying drum-n-bass to keep it interesting.

I know that Goldie helped lay the groundwork for his particular subgenre of music, but maybe he was a victem of his own success, because nothing about this sounds particularly interesting or different from dozens of other drum and bass artists. Not bad, just sort of generic, and I feel like I've heard a million variations of these sounds before.

Sometimes this would give DJ Shadow vibes, but it also occasionally sounded solidly 1990s. & Despite a few re-starts, it largely blended into the background. Not bad, but nothing noteworthy.

Classic World Market music. Not bad, just unremarkable to my ears.

Goldie is a bit of an oddity. He looks (and acts) all 'ardcore. But then drops this, nearly 2 hours of contemplative, slow-reveal, jazzy d n' b rollers. There are quite a few sublime moments on here for sure but by jings it's overlong. Would like to hear an edit where someone from the record label stepped in and made a tight mixdown under 50 minutes. I remember buying this (on cassette) the week it came out and being a bit flummoxed by some of it. Probably still the case today, though definitely worth a listen.

Good for what it is. Not my style. Ahead of its time.

not bad but not for me

3.5 It's chill.

i don’t even know what version to listen to as there’s a 2x CD version… a normal CD and Cassette version… then there’s the 2x LP version… they’re all different 🫠 the version on spotify is the 2x CD version and it’s nearly 2 hours long which is just too long for a focused listen, and i am not doing chores for 2 hours! it seems most EDM albums is just really long. there’s been the occasional song that i really like. “sea of tears” is amazing.

great background music vibes

It's not that I don't get the pleasures of sinking into the celerity and flow of the 'bass and drum' sound, it's that the monotony and space-agedness of the enterprise leaves me cold. Stemming from 'jungle,' in reality there isn't much resembling a jungle here, more like a scrambling for the next hit, a hunting for yet another bump. That's something I've experienced and that I've enjoyed, but I gotta be out for that: the impact of such a record is thus too narrowly defined. I know that not all brilliance fits every mood, but I'd like to think that it should accommodate more than one. On top of that, the vocals, provided by Diane Charlemagne and Lorna Harris, are a weak link difficult to overcome: uninteresting, detached. Upswing for influence tho.

Interesting

I didn’t finish the whole two hours but it was enjoyable! I liked the beats, I could see looking more into the discography if I want to get more into drum and bass. The vocals were solid too, I swear I’ve heard this stuff before. It’s not on my regular listening, but if it was it could be five stars.

This has the haters comings out if the woodwork. I'm not a D&B fan but you can tell this is an excellent representation of the genere. This passes the purpose test as well, as in this record has one and accomplished it

I've gotten a few albums that are either Jungle adjacent, or actual Jungle albums like this one. So far, I feel like this list is targetting some of the "weaker" projects. Timeless is good for a fan of the genre, but if you aren't a fan of the genre it's too long, and may be a little hard to stomach. Great live though. 3/5 feels too low, but 4/5 feels to high.

Too long, but good otherwise

Born Marigold Clifford Joseph Price MBE, better known as Goldie, is an English music producer, DJ, and thespian, with frequent TV appearances as the Blue Peter dog. Goldie was a Golden Retriever who was a Blue Peter dog, appearing on the show from 1978 to 1986. She was owned by presenter Simon Groom and her name was chosen by Blue Peter viewers. Goldie was known for being a sweet and friendly dog. After finishing her TV role she forged a path in music. When people think of the 1990s, they usually think of important cultural milestones, like Gladiators, or Mr. Blobby’s harrowing rise to power. But tucked away among all that chaos was another event almost as significant: Timeless by Goldie, an album that changed music forever, or at least for about an hour and a half. Timeless is described as a “drum and bass” album. “Drum and bass” is a type of music where the drums go at roughly the speed of sound, while the bass hums away underneath like a very relaxed cow. Goldie, who is not made of gold and probably isn’t even called Goldie in real life, took these ingredients and stirred them together into something that sounds like the future, if the future was mainly made of really fast drums and dolphins crying. The album opens with the track Timeless, which is confusing, because that’s also the name of the album. This makes it difficult to know whether you’re listening to the song, the album, or just the inexorable passage of time. The music swooshes around your ears like you’re trapped inside a washing machine that’s fallen in love with you. Goldie apparently made Timeless as a tribute to breakbeats, inner-city life, and possibly to people who enjoy having a minor existential crisis on a dancefloor at four in the morning. There’s singing from Diane Charlemagne, who has a voice so powerful it could probably knock over a horse from fifty feet away, which is why she mainly stuck to singing and not equestrian sports. One of the standout tracks is Inner City Life, which sounds a bit like sadness trapped in a rave. It’s about living in the city, which is like living in the countryside, except there’s less mud and more chance you’ll be mugged by a fox. Throughout the album, the beats get faster and the bass gets deeper, until eventually it feels like you’re being gently chased by a swarm of bees made entirely of sound. Some tracks last for fifteen minutes, which in dog years is roughly a whole day. By the end of it, you’re not sure if you’ve just been listening to music or if you’ve accidentally been uploaded to the internet. In conclusion, Timeless is a very important album because it proves that music doesn’t have to make sense to be brilliant. Goldie showed that you can take any sounds you like—drums, bass, whales having an argument—and smoosh them together into something people will call “groundbreaking,” mainly because it makes their floors vibrate. If you only listen to one album in 1995 (and can time travel), you should probably listen to Timeless, unless you hate loud noises, feelings, or the concept of time itself. In which case, maybe just stay in bed. The Outhere Brothers, “Don’t Stop (wiggle wiggle)” provides an alternative aural treat, but only fails to make this list as it is a 7” single, rather than the 45” extended drumular bass standard.

Surprisingly nice! Maybe it just fell at the right time. Really good cleaning music as well. Can't quite give it a 4, but was considering

Damn this is a long album. The leadoff and album namesake "Timeless" takes a large chunk of that runtime at just over 21 minutes. This termed "DnB symphony" certainly takes its time and has its moments, but doesn't have nearly the propulsiveness of other DnB we've had on this list (e.g., Underworld). State of Mind is a definite shift of direction, but I enjoy it quite a bit. I appreciate the bass thrumping and demented vocal sample of This is a Bad. Sea of Tears is a personal favorite of mine here. I find the use of the dolphin whistle throughout to be kooky, but wonderful and love the thick basslines. Still Life is scratching a certain itch for me. I like the dustiness of the snares. Between meeting interruptions that album took me through my entire morning. I'd say that I enjoyed it just fine, but there aren't any individual tracks that I long to go back for. This is pretty much definition 3.

Another unique album. I feel like we have gotten a good dose of 90's electronic/techno but not too much in the DnB realm. Interested to have a listen as DnB is making its way back into popularity in the EDM space. State of Mind stood out to me as a soft and pretty track after the previous two harder tracks. Overall this one had its brighter moments and no real lows. It was a tad long, but no real complaints after all was said and done. Was thinking low 4 at a point, but it kinda drifted at the end. Happy to give this one a high 3.

I listened to the cd/casette version because the other version is hella long. I'm not a connaiseur of drum 'n bass but I think this less frenetic sound is the origin of the genre(?). I kinda liked it but even the shorter version of this album is an hour which makes it a long sitdown for something not exactly in your comfortzone

Uppskattar detta, bra gammal DnB men inte tillräckligt intressant för att berättiga albumets längd. Lyssnar gärna på detta i bakgrunden dock!

för jävla långt

A couple good tracks but overstays its welcome

Okay, now I know what drum and bass is.

For the most part I know Goldie from the stuff he did with Metalheadz, but not really his personal stuff. I mean Photek and Dillinja ring a bell, but I don't really remember names... Platinum Breakz compilations maybe? Anyway, back then I was more into jungle that drum 'n bass, also psychedelic downtempo stuff like Children Of The Bong and trip hop like Tricky. This sound nice tho, haven't listened to anything like this in years.

First listen

Must have been cool to hear during its debut

Feel like I should enjoy this more but everything sounded the same

Very long background music album. But the sort of music that is in a video game stealth mission.

im not studied up on the complete history of dnb but for 1995 this seems like a cool collection of tracks feels cool, feels fun, doesnt feel too trapped in the past to appreciate

Actually enjoyed this much more than I expected. It was great as background music for working, and I often found myself vibing to the very deep bass and jungle drums. I only knew the radio edit of Inner City Life going into this, but there are a couple of good songs on it. It's obscenely long though, and quite repetitive in places. Also a bit dated, so the album title is unfortunate!

Listened to this for about 40 minutes and thought, “man this album really sounds like one song”. It was in fact 2 songs… 5/10

Wanted to rate it a 2 at first but I started vibing a little by the end of it. The list should have better dnb albums but it’s always nice to work while listening to these

It's all competent and fine though it does leave me a bit cold. So getting g through 2 hours of this is a bit much TBH

I'm sure this was groundbreaking and awe inspiring in 92 but I can't listen to 2 hours of this musical clip art. Sounds like a 2003 college music art project, some decent bits across some of the tracks but basically reminds of "the sound" from friends. Very low 3.

Best lachen D&B stukjes, maar 2 uur lang is wel ongekend.

I found the beats to be jarring and dissonant, but I enjoyed the dreamy vocals and spacey synthesizers, as well as the more soulful, jazzy stuff. There is music on this album. Take note, Fatboy. 3

Cool listen, lots of themes and melodies that I recognize used in other artist's work. -Timeless -This is A Bad (ending melody is definitely used by another artist- very familiar)

Pretty good background music, but doesn't get beyond that for me. And too long!

I’m a bit torn here. I love Drum and Bass. It’s my favorite type of dance music by far. I don’t really like Goldie and his brand of softer DnB. I also don’t really like DnB as “listening” music because it gets repetitive and boring very fast. So what it should be? I’ll give it three stars, but if you want to get a taste of DnB please attend a party or a rave rather than trying to listen to this boring drivel.

very cool. too experimental to get replays. fun when high. painful when hungover

Pina Colada, Pool, chillen und „Inner City Life“. Brauchbare Trance & Lounge Klänge aber keine hall wach Momente.

PS2 D&B

Diane Charlemagne is everything on the "Inner City Life" part of the "Timeless" suite that is the 21 minute opening track of the Goldie album, also entitled "Timeless." Beloved in 1995 by the UK music periodicals and other trend-starved critical outlets gazing across the pond (Village Voice, Spin, Alternative Press), but most Americans are only familiar with Goldie because of his brief romance with Icelandic superstar Björk. Drum and Bass emerged from the UK Jungle scene, which translates as a variation on Techno, Dance Music and Electronica the finer points can be endlessly discussed by afficionados of the genre. I appreciate the propulsive lightness of "Saint Angel" "State of Mind" is harp, piano, synth strings and soulful vocals. Lovely, feathery, stuttering, ethereal....but ultimately background music that overstays its welcome.

I enjoyed this. Got a little repetitive, but still good.

Electronic trance music. Not entirely sure how to rate it. Sounded good, but also nothing stood out to separate it from others things I know. Not even sure if it was good enough to have the artist's name stand out

So to preface, I am not very familiar with drum and bass music. When I was a kid exploring music on newgrounds, the drum and bass music section always seemed repetitive and boring. So ever since then I’ve never taken time to listen to any professional/established d’n’b artist, until I got to this album. And I really enjoyed the first song. It’s TWENTY ONE MINUTES LONG, but it somehow manages to not over stay its welcome. It has a multitude of beat switches and tone changes, and it keeps finding ways to maintain your attention. Genuinely a great song. I also liked the third and twelfth song, but this is where the problem comes in. In-between those 3 songs are just a mess of the same sound. Like it’s not nails on a chalkboard offensive to the ears, but it’s so atmospheric that nothing stands out about the other tracks. They all blend together to create an hour and 18min long loading music for the 35mins of music that’s truly remarkable. Strangely however, I don’t hate this album, it’s very relaxing and “sound-scapey”, it’s grand and epic in tone. I just think that the atmospheric background music just overstays its welcome. Like if the album was 6 songs and just under an hour long, I think this album could’ve been a 4 or even a 5. But I think this album is definitely worth your time if you already are a big fan of drum and bass or if you have never really listened to it before. Goldie is probably the way to go for an entry into the genre.

Interesting mix

По мнению А: 3/5 По мнению С: 4/5 ИТОГОВАЯ ОЦЕНКА: 3/5 (06.02.2025)

90s Drum and Bass, pretty good - not the best I've ever heard in the genre but certainly not the worst. Gotta be in the right mood / doing the right activity for this to be listenable.

Very 90’s. Good background music

Wayyy too long

Dated but not in a bad way. Bit too long at parts.

idk I liked it but far too long. I enjoyed the tracks with melodic vocals the most

Vitas meets Grimes meets Meow Wolf Omega Mart ambient music. Certainly put me in a weird headspace while eating mixed nuts at 1 am. I know, I know this was groundbreaking... and probably somewhat inspired the aformentioned music (that I like a lot) but... 3/5. Would listen to again at 1 am, but probably not on purpose. It's another one of those albums where I feel like I heard the whole thing by the first song, then confirm that I have indeed heard the whole thing by the third song, and then listen to the rest of the album.

21 minutos dura la primera canción. Innecesario.

Goes on way too long. Some interesting ideas but ultimately becomes tedioius.

Sì, non male, ma eccessivamente lungo.

It's decent background music. That's all that really comes to mind.

cool, some bits even super favorite song: adrift

This is a wild album to include on this list. I don’t dislike it overall, and it’s hard to believe someone was making drum and bass like this 30 years ago, truly a very influential album. The opening track is shockingly soulful, and the breakbeats throughout really work for me. I’m not entirely sure it needs to be 21 minutes long, but as a DJ, this would be the absolute perfect bathroom break track. “Saint Angel” hits a little more aggressively, and feels like it would be at home in a goth club, the matrix soundtrack, or an edgy credit card commercial. I dig it though. “State of Mind” is where the album starts to lose me a little bit, it feels more pop than dance music, and I’m not overly into it. The rest of the album is sort of hit and miss, I’m not sure it’s really worth reviewing this one track by track, but it’s got some highs and lows for sure. The piano in “You And Me” feels very Felix Da Housecat’s remix of “Sinnerman” in a very good way. I don’t know if I’d actively listen to this again, but if I was for some reason ever forced to start DJing again, this could be a good album to keep in my back pocket for just the right show. 3*

I have to admit I first balked when I saw the AOTD is nearly two hours of 1995 drum n bass, but I actually found this pretty enjoyable to zone out and do repetitive tasks to. This album makes nice use of some pretty funky/soulful samples and strikes a nice balance between letting the song meander and returning to its central motif. The 20-minute opening track takes a little while to get there, but it settles into a nice groove, and I liked both of the abridged remixes at the end as well. I swear there's some Mario Kart samples in here. I wouldn't put this on in its entirety again but any particular song would fit in nicely to a shuffle of jungle/dnb on the rare occasion when I put that on for menial tasks. 6/10

Never heard of this artist. Interested to find out what they sound like. At first glance, by the name, I immediately thought 80's synth solo artist. So far interesting, almost trip-hop. It's interesting. Definitely reminds me of 90's rave or something

I've been aware of Goldie as an artist and personality for ages, but never actually known what his actual music was like. I didn't realise he was so influential in the DnB scene. I guess this is what it is. It's not something I'll ever celebrate or go back to. I'm not bothered by the super long tracks as so many are. I vibe with it well enough, and it works well enough in the background while cracking on with work.

Take it or leave it.

3/5 trochę za długie chociaż takie do lecenia w tle w pracy to calkiem niezłe

Certainly didn't hate this. It's a long listen for sure.

really chill and album incorporating some pretty solid breakbeat tracks

Expected heavy metal or prog from the cover art and was surprised to hear what sounds like some kind of partly acoustic drum and bass variation with vocals. Hard to decide if I like this. Not an instant hit, but there is something interesting to it! Too long for a re listen at the moment. Giving it a 3 due to the varying quality of the tracks. Would probably have given it a 4 if it was shortened down by curating the track list more.

I like the choppy rhythms of drum and bass/jungle whatever other subgenres of britronica are based on chopping up and reassembling the amen beat or whatever. Not sure how one dances to it. Apparently his son knifed somebody!? Classic pom ignorance. Anyway the choppy stuffs fun, but there are too many beatless interludes and the whole damn thing, at least what's on spotify and appears to correlate with the wiki track list, is too damn long.

If the Hackers soundtrack had less enjoyable music riddled with poorly sampled drum sounds, this is what it would sound like. There were a few ok spots, but I can't fathom how people could ever have listened to drum n bass as a primary musical style.

Some great EDM, not what I was expecting at all (I think I got Goldie mixed up with Goldie Lookin Chain!), so it took me a while to get into it, but I did enjoy what I heard.

Cool sounds and shits.

70% Best: State of Mind; Angel Must-Hear? Nah

Before I put this on I’m praying it’s better than Roni Size (gave that a 3 and should of been a 2) This is definitely more soothing and chill. Other than length of the album I really enjoy it. Light 3 could’ve moved up more if it was condensed into best tracks

I like and love dnb!!!!!!!!

2.6 1x

was like listening to the Lumines: Puzzle Fusion soundtrack for 2 hours

Hmm... okay. This is an album alright. Here, we have Timeless by Goldie, which is the earliest of three albums on this list from a genre known as drum and bass, a genre categorized by its characteristic drums (often in the form of break beats) and its bass. Despite this being the first one I've gotten from the generator, I have listened to the other two drum and bass albums on the list already. I did those ones because they were over two hours each, and were thus albums that I felt the need to listen to when I had free time so that I can do them during days where I have as much time to get through them as possible. Maybe I should've extended the minimum time to include this one. Let's move past that though. Back to the genre itself, this album is seen as a seminal album for the genre, giving it an argument for inclusion in this list. So, is this album truly Timeless? No, but that doesn't mean it's not good. I think this album's alright. Is it a bit too long for my liking? Yes, it is. However, the contents of this album are pretty good. This would've been a great album for me to do homework to if I had homework tonight, which I didn't. The sound is somewhat interesting. It's certainly more interesting than other 90s British electronic albums, that's for sure. The singing that shows up sometimes is neat. It's kind of Björk-like in a way. The sampling is good. I do have problems with this album, don't get me wrong. The pacing is kind of wack. The longest song, which is the first one by the way, is 21 minutes long, while the shortest one, "Angel," is just under 5 minutes long. That makes some songs drag too long while others feel tiny in comparison. Still, I respect this album for doing something different at the time. It may not be timeless or faultless, but it's still a solid album that I can see the appeal of. 3/5.

Timeless it may be, but drum and bass always was a little too hard for me.

I'm not sure I loved this, but it was perfectly fine for focusing at work. Then I got to "adrift" and was so annoyed I felt like throwing furniture. I think this is an album that works well when being slightly understated music that sounds good, but that's really all I see here.

Drum & Bass / Jungle classic.

At first I really didn’t like this because it sounded like generic irritating Brit rock the album looped on accident and I found myself enjoying it a lot more for some reason. I’m not even sure what really changed but songs like music when the lights go out were a lot more fun.

I wish I could say that my experiences with electronic music over the last 300-some days was entirely good. But most of it has been unfortunately less than positive. It continues to confuse me. Because in all honesty I’m not that hard to please when it comes to that genre. If your songs sound cool, are varied enough, and have solid drum programming, you have me sold. So it’s baffling that almost none have managed to check each of those boxes. I am aware of a good amount of the albums on this list. And I know which ones are much, much longer, including this one. Thankfully I’ve been mostly lucky so far and haven’t had to worry about work when trying to finish those records. Sadly today was not one of those days. I guess an hour and 40 minutes isn’t that long in comparison to some. But it feels like a lot. Especially when you have that 20 minute long monster of an opener. I tried to let the length of it affect my rating as little as possible. And I’ll admit that this isn’t actually the worst thing I’ve ever heard. But it isn’t anything more than okay. I’ll start off by saying that the production here is consistently interesting and doesn’t feel completely lifeless throughout. I’m also not traditionally a fan of singing in this style of music. But there is enough room left for the rest of the music that makes the vocals feel worthwhile. They aren’t completely overwhelming the whole song for once. But most, if not all songs on this album are plagued by the same issue. Every small section of music I enjoy listening to is surrounded by something far more monotonous. I don’t have the desire or energy to force myself through 5 minutes of an 8 minute long song to get to the 3 minutes of it I like at the end. That’s not what I listen to music for. But like I said, not all of these songs are horrible. I wouldn’t actually classify anything on this as objectively trash. Much of it is just incredibly below average. And for its length, I couldn’t recommend it to someone. Most people don’t have the patience for 100 minutes of music, let alone 60. Rating: 5/10

Just another day with another British electronic album. Despite the length, at least this one has an upbeat that was enjoyable. I'm still harsh with electronic, even learning to respect it during this 1001 challenge, but this type of drum and bass looks like a good style for me.

The drumming on this is insane. But an hour and 55 minutes of is...a bit much and repetitive. Good background music. Not much more.

Good but way too long.

I hated Drum and Bass when it became big in the 90's I couldn't much stand Goldie when he was ubiquitous for his 15 minutes And yet I did not hate this at all Won't ever seek it out again but it was an interesting and arresting listen

Creative but repetitive and redundant. This is what happens when you have a good idea that’s not big enough for an entire album so it becomes cookie cutter. Enjoyable but limited.

Totally dug this spending a couple hours cooking in the kitchen. Would I add this to the list? No. Did I bookmark for work background music? Yes.

21 minutos dura la primera canción. Innecesario.

I was pleasantly surprised at this album, as it was calming enough to listen to while I worked, but I think it is much too long, and it felt mostly the same in many parts. I think that with one or two songs to break some of the "sameness" and a cut of 20 minutes or so, it could be much better, but nothing much stood out to me enough to give it more than a "good" rating.

Solid drum and bass album that had a big reputation in the 90s. It is more ambient than I remembered, which is fine but also a little boring.

There are some nice hooks but not enough to keep me tied over the full record.

Not in the mood

I have a drum and bass tolerance that does not last for a full album. But this is pretty good, especially the tracks with the female vocalist.

I’ve always had a soft spot for Goldie. No idea why. I’ve never really listened to much of his music. I guess my rating is really just a reflection of my inexplicable love, but the album was actually pretty good too!

Old-school Drum and Bass. Some tracks don't vibe with me though.

first listen actually and relentlessly boring

I actually was enjoying much of this album...for like the first 45 minutes. Then it suddenly made me feel like I had been standing in at the check-in desk at the Cosmo in Las Vegas for an hour and I started to get a bit irritated. (Can we please get a couple more check-in hosts out here to get this line moving???)

I don't want to yuck anyone's yum and I can accept that I'm just not the audience for this BUT I can see why one song that sounds like this is cool. But a whole album? A double album? An entire genre? I don't get drum and bass. What am I missing? Drugs? Is it drugs? It's drugs, isn't it?

This was mostly ok for me. Reminds me of my days running the board at a radio station on Sunday mornings when I would insert ads into the breaks of a new age show. While it wasn’t terrible to have on in the background for a lot of it, there were parts that really did start to wear on my nerves. But only when I was paying closer attention.

it actually feels disrespectful to listen to an album like this front to back in the middle of the day and not in a sweaty dimly lit room as part of a dj set. lots of catchy parts and sections but *for sure* not a full 2hr listen. 2.5

Rate it higher than 3 but not a 4. Music good for meditation.

the album manages to build a whole universe which is pretty fantastic however, even if I really enjoy electro, I didn't enjoy the harmony, tunes and all

More mellow than I remembered it… personal preference is the more abrasive artists in the genre but there is no denying the impact this album had at the time…

Goldie, positive representative for the genre Though I like mine harder

The classic D&B sound: deep bass grooves combined with rapid fire drum machine programming, synth parts for texture and mood, then diva-style vocal singing/samples strung across the top to give it a center. Was this album making or just mainstreaming this template? Despite the kind of spasmy herky jerky feel of the rhythms, it does work incredibly well as a tune everything else out and focus on some bullshit kind of functional music, though it adds a layer of ambient stress to the focus. Not sure it needed to be two hours long though, JFC! It's called Timeless, but it is incredibly of its moment. Interesting that this era of Jungle, Drum & Bass, House and electronica in general had a much more widespread presence in UK pop than in the US, where it seemed relegated to clubs rather than radio...or maybe it just passed my suburban existence by...

Not terrible - fairly pleasant, actually. I could shop to this, or watch a film.

Jungle is massive. Goldie mixes things up with an epic double album of drumnbass. I prefer the instrumental tracks generally as I always find the vocals to dnb a tad cheesy. It's a long listen, and probably could've done with some editing. Best Tracks: Timeless; This is a Bad; Sea of Tears

Few decent tracks, went on for wayyyy to long!

Not the highest energy stuff, but listenable

Got halfway through, got the vibe.

I certainly liked it better than some of the other techno stuff from that time. I could actually listen to this and enjoy a bit of it. I might be able to have this on in the background for working.

Solid Drum and Bass, nothing major. I like it but it's not anything to write home about. Definitely has a more aggressive tone in comparison to the LTJ Bukem record.

Big swing, naming your album Timeless. Not sure if the name exactly fits, since it does still sound sort of futuristic, but in a 90's/00's way. Definitely not something I would have chosen to listen to on my own, but not horrible. Kind of a good background for doing work that requires some focus, but not a lot of deep thinking. I could see myself coming back to some of these tracks for long runs or coding sessions.

Pretty interesting. Not super what I wanted to listen to, but a nice break from the rock albums. Soo long though and many of the songs sounded similar. 5.5/10

6/10 - I enjoyed most of the songs but they were all too long. The first song has great parts but its 21 minutes long so I would never really listen to it in my free time. It was great to listen to while chasing my target in assassin. Inner City Life- baby Boy's edit was great.

Fine but just so long. I’m glad I was doing stuff and not really locked in on the music the whole time 6/10

respect it probably never listen to it again

I'd never listened to Goldie before. I like the ethereal parts of this artist. Didn't like the heavy beat of one or two of the songs, but overall, nice.

Ok light techno feel

Great sound and bass album. Definition of sound and bass. Does get repetitive tho. Perfect for a workout if that's your jam

Liked, didn't love. Zone out kind of vibes.

this is good stuff, but i dont have time/will to listen to a two hour record today.
