Reviews (page 7 of 7)
Langsom newwave poprock, lidt 80’er synth, et par ok numre men uden rigtig at gøre indtryk
Not the best the 80s had to offer
No offense to Simple Minds, I like "Don't You (Forget About Me)", but this didn't really jazz my almonds in any way. Vocally, it reminds me of Depeche Mode, and there are some interesting bass riffs to listen to, but it struggles to keep my attention. Favorite track: "Promised You A Miracle"
Not a huge fan of the 80s synth, but this wasn’t awful
A couple of decent songs but the album is stocked of tedium and bore. I like the later work of Simple Minds but this album is lacking.
I've always been a fan of this era of music, early 80s new wave/synth pop. However Simple Minds have always been a little too shiny, pristine and poppy for me. I found this record quite hard to get into, there's lots of cool sounds and melodies, but something about it just feels lacking compared to other new wave bands for me.
I'm not really a fan. Most of it is sitting solely in the background and it's not grabbing or interesting me. There's some nice synths, but it's quite pared back. It's mostly forgettable.
Oh... I'm unfamiliar with this one! Looking at the track list... Glittering Prize caught my attention because I love Television Personalities and their song The Glittering Prizes. Doesn't seem related. Not really a fan. I thought I liked the 80's. I liked the 80's in the 80's at least.
Meh Gold Dream.
Has some bops. Has some serious production issues.
Very bland and forgettable. Stand-out: Someone Somewhere in Summertime
Meh.
Ok, I can respect that this might be a "good" album, but I'm really not interested. I couldn't wait for this album to end. The combo of driving beats with moody melodic wailing makes me queasy.
got nothing to say about this one.
2.0
Saa selvää tämmösestä ramblestä.. näytän arvostelullani etten sitä positiivista ratinkia pelkästään miellyttävän genren perusteella jakele....
Boring.
Waarom klinkt elke jaren '80 stem toch hetzelfde? Of is het New Wave? Of hoe je het ook wilt noemen? Ik vind het niks iig.
Can appreciate it for the 80s album that it was, but it was a little bit of a Snoozefest
I really like Promised You a Miracle, but the rest of the album isn't doing a ton for me. The dark new wave sound really isn't one that I gravitate to, and I doubt I would ever go back to this album. That being said, I've always thought of Simple Minds as one hit wonders so it's interesting to hear one of their albums without that one hit.
Not bad, but not my thing
not an interesting record to me, and I think I am also able to say this is not an interesting 'genre' to me. There seems to be a lot of boring british new wave with no hook/chorus/groove on this list.
I strongly dislike 80's new wave/synth pop music and this album was no different. I hate the hollow haunted moaning whiny goth vocal style of this era. It is so boring and frustrating to listen to. I understand why other people like this music, but it's not for me. While not on this album, their song "Don't You", is an absolute jam of a song and a classic from the 80's.
bored
Some notes to start is that this is one of the ugliest album covers on the whole list, and that man, do a lot of one hit wonder bands have albums on the list, for better and worse. In this case, it's worse. The album isn't bad, per se, as I like some of the ideas here, but nothing stands out as some crowning achievement in new wave, synth-pop, pop, or even electronic. Some of it is pretty okay, but nothing gravitates to me any more than anything else that blends together from the era. There could definitely be days where I could see this getting all the way up to a four, depending on how open I am to just stereotypical synth pop, but today is not it, and thinking of all the other much more deserving albums from the era that were probably axed for this makes it all the sadder.
Back and forth between 2-3 but too repetitive
It's really not bad. It's not great either, but not bad. It is, however, the same exact song 9 times over. I guess stick with what's working? But it wasn't anything that great where they can't deviate styles at least a little bit. Favorite track: Someone Somewhere
So indistinct as an 80s album.
Not horrible, but really not notable. Couple decent songs, but most sound like a rip off of Roxy Music or New Order. Wasn’t this band basically a one hit wonder? Think this is another example of the author projecting his personal interests and nostalgia on to us.
scottish rock idk it’s fine
Meh
Forgettable: I think I can confidently say that Simple Minds are a bit of a one hit wonder after listening to this. I felt it was lacking in creativity and was just overall a pretty boring way to spend my time listening to music. Could've been better but I'll probably not be revisiting.
Lo escuché una vez y no recuerdo nada.
not a big fan of music like this. after a while most of the songs started sounding the same. not my jam, fam.
Not sure what the target audience for this is supposed to be. People who hate themselves? Best track: Glittering Prize
>.<zzz
I think this album may have got off on the wrong foot in terms of my initial reception of it. I had my streaming service on shuffle the first run through. Second time around, I corrected that and kicked up the volume only to realize that some of my early feelings were about the vocal mix (sitting a little low in places). Also I realized that Somebody Up There Likes You is a real momentum killer on the records. Speaking of the album overall: it's more about atmosphere than I would've expected from Simple Minds. I think you have to look at how the album is thought of in reverse rather than how it was heard when it first came out, the number of "viable singles" on it also seems low for what I expect of this band. As you can see, I have some baggage and expectation of what I'm going to get from Simple Minds and this album also confronts that bias. Maybe on a third listen I'll finally be able to "hear it". Though I admit some impatience while I listen.
This is not really my thing, but I'll say two things: 1 - it was consistent; even though I don't really like it, there weren't really any "bad" songs I guess 2. The bass lines were dope.
I know who simple minds are but never heard them that I know of. Can't wait for yet more UK new wave. This wasn't bad at all but I forgot it was playing to a large extent. Just one giant blob of new wave nothingness. 2/5.
This was surprisingly disappointing.
It was acceptable of it's era. But it's not hugely interesting nowadays despite being one of the better of it's type
Same type of new wave stuff that plagues this list. At least this record has some cool funky undertones.
Meh
Boring and very 80s. Not for me
Fave songs: Promised you a miracle, big sleep, new gold dream, hunter and the hunted pretty mediocre synthpop 2/5
I have so many questions. Why is this on this list? Where’s the fun part? Why does the production sound like someone is vacuuming over top of it? How many more new wave albums make the cut here? I didn’t need to hear this stale, white bread equivalent of a record. 2 stars for some halfway okay songs with Glittering Prize.
I’ll keep it simple: I didn’t pay this record much mind.
more 80s than ever thought possible
This one is interesting...I only knew Don't You (Forget About Me) by Simple Minds going into this listen. I was expecting a bigger, more stadium-y sound. But I'm hearing a lot of like.. Depeche Mode in major keys / Devo/Bowie but less interesting / and weirdly a little like..El Ten Eleven/00s sounding guitar & bass work? Maybe that's what notable?
Not my favorite but not the worst at all! Seems like a filler album for this bad nothing really stood out to me but still not a bad listen!
Bad 80s synthpop that doesn't have their best songs on it. What?
This wasn't great. First song quite catchy, but it quickly degenerates into pretty generic beige new wave, not a lot to distinguish it from a lot of other stuff at the time. Every song outstays its welcome, it's overly repetitive, and just not that interesting. 2/5.
Поначалу альбом показался довольно динамичным и многообещающим, но под конец я не то чтобы хотел выключить, просто устал от однообразия 2+
Not really for me. Nothing stood out.
- Love the instrumentals - Vocals are okay but I guess add to the vibe - Background music - Major 80s vibes but not super my thing
En tiedä voiko kuulostaa enempää kasarille niin hyvässä kuin pahassa? Taustamusaa.
Ei mun juttu. Peruskakkonen
This was alright but I cannot remember a single thing about it
I'm not into the 80's New Wave screen, it all feels too much the same.
This is the early 80's alright, didn't necessarily stand out for me.
Best Song: Promised You A Miracle. Just the right amount of 80s pomp and cheese to make me think it's funny-good not funny-bad. Worst Song: Somebody Up There Likes You. Yawn. Overall: Another British album better off left to the annals of history.
liked songs: someone somewhere big sleep glittering prize
Bill
Basen är helt cool men låtarna e så mid att de int e klokt, förtjänar inte sin plats på listan.
Interesting at times but quite boring and dragged
very 80s
I like Simple Minds and understand the significance of this album. Just don’t think it is great.
It was OK. Started blending together quite a bit. There are better new wave early 80's bands IMO.
Ok album, some cool 80s synth sounds, but overall pretty forgettable... no real bangers :(
Didn't get it. Don't get it.
First things first, that is a horrible album cover. Is that Papyrus? Why does the design look like the cover of a Bible knockoff? Onto the music. It had a darker spin on new wave which I liked, but sadly most songs were pretty forgettable. The only two that are worth a relisten are Someone Somewhere (In Summertime) and Promised You a Miracle. Maybe this is why Simple Minds only ended up having one hit.
Unremarkable New Wave. Nothing stands out as something I'd want to listen to again.
I never could get int Simple Minds honestly. My mom loves them but i think it's just because of nostalgia. This album was pretty boring, all the songs sounded exactly the same, the lyrics are quite bad and it overall feels really dated. The only people that could like this album are Simple Minds fans, people who reeeally like new wave, nostalgic Gen X people and Tik Tok teenagers that feel that they were "born in the wrong generation".
Idk pretty boring I thought
devoid of hooks or melody
You had me at “‘82.” I just love the 80s vibe, so it’s a good start for me. Didn’t get much of a chance to listen to the rest of it
Good, classic music. Really enjoyed it but didn’t absolutely love it.
Not very exciting, interesting sounds though for the time.
Oh, well, Simple Minds. I remember liking *Street Fighting Years* when I was a teenager. And also *Life In A Year*, from their early, more post-punk phase (was it the name of the album, or the name of one of its songs?--can't honestly remember, and I have betterthings to do now than to check out those things). Sadly, whenever I tried to revisit this band, I found most of everything they've done cheesy and quite cringeworthy. Which is very ironic given that I have warmed up to a lot of other British eighties pop bands since my younger years. This album is no exception. A few decent songs here and there, but the whole has definitely not aged well compared to similar acts of that area. Now, I've noticed that this list singles out a lot of records that hit the charts when they were released. Hey, Robert, just because a record meets commercial success at some point in time, helping the band that recorded it to "break out", doesn't always mean that what they've spawned is... essential. Number of records I've reviewed: less than 800 Number of records I'll keep on my own list: half so far, approximately. Number of records I might keep: a quarter. Number of records I won't keep: another quarter (including this one).
Not really my thing.
This was ok. Grand for some background music but nothing to write home about
Slightly bland new wave
Really similar to the smiths, not bad I kinda liked it but had trouble staying interested
Beetje traag, wel leuk achtergrond muziekje.
Awfully dated sound. Expensive production in the 80s that sounds like factory effects for karaoke on a 90s boom box. The low end has lovely punch, but the rest is just meh. (Prior listen)
Not my cup of tea
80s synth pop is fine, but not something I would typically seek out. Didn't realize that Simple Minds had such a history. Overall just decent. 2.5/5
this album just made me bored. it was unexciting and unremarkable. it was rather soft, too, and simple minds had a rather lethargic sound here. the one redeeming quality is the instrumentation on "somebody up there likes you". that was rather pretty and felt like a fantasy. overall, i didn't hate the album and i do like synth, but i couldn't get enthused even after several listens.
What a bleh album. Its decent 80s synth pop, but its all bleh and mashed together. There’s little substance besides droning boops and blips, and the occasional generic lyric. This is not how you do synth music.
This has to be the worst album name and artwork combination I've ever seen. I thought I was going to be listening to gospel garbage. It's... kind of whatever honestly. Like most of this 80s synth-heavy stuff, it hasn't aged the best. There's something missing here. The mixing is very weird. I couldn't pay attention to the lyrics at all because the guy's vocals sound like they're coming from the bottom of a well. There's better and more influential synthpop out there. I don't really get this album's inclusion, but meh who cares. It was listenable.
A little boring.
It was fine. Nothing memorable for me
This is not good.
This album managed to be so stereotypically yet inoffensively 80s that it really went in one ear and out the other. Couldn’t name you a single melody beyond some vague gestures at chorus-heavy guitar if I tried.
Meh
Listened to this on a road trip. It's ok. A little repetitive, but some good songs on there here and there in between all the synth.
Not as earth shattering as Jim Kerr thinks it is. Simple Minds belongs on this list, but not for this album (I'm a sucker for "Once Upon A Time").
Not much variety to what I’m hearing here. And I’m not much of a fan of SM except for Give me Don’t You (Forget About Me) and Alive and Kicking, which aren’t on this. This album isn’t for me.
podsjeća me na soundtrack nekih angsty filmova iz 80-ih, al nije nešto šta baš slušan samoinicijativno
I wanted to be more interested...
Don't know why I find music from this era so boring, but it really is. 2/5
Meh.... a basic new wave without much to say.
A couple ok songs.
Didn’t much care for these at the time, although I loved ‘Someone, somewhere….’ Quite enjoyed this listen though, particularly Glittering Prize.
Pure 80's music. The traditional beats, keyboards and synthesizers.
A small number of fun singles. The rest... nope.
Kept waiting for 'don't you forget about me' to come on and it never did. Didn't really matter as all the songs sounded the same and when the album finished I listened to their famous song which was a bit boring.
I can see how this could be someone's thing, growing up in a town suddenly they discovered this album and no-one else got it like they did. I found it hard to focus on, like trying to catch a worm, it just kept slipping away and something else would pop into my head.
I wasn't too familiar with Simple Minds, for some odd reason I keep confusing them with Tears for Fears. The album wasn't bad, I recognised the singles, rest of album didn't grab me on first listen. I did read the Wikipedia page about The Breakfast Club song, I didn't know it wasn't their song. They initially said no, kept getting asked so agreed, recorded it within half a day then forgot about it - until the movie came out and it got big radio airplay in the USA.
I think Simple Minds peaked with Empires and Dance (1980) and Sister Feelings Call and Sons and Fascination (1981). Even Real to Real Cacophony is good (1979). New Gold Dream is where they smooth all the jagged edges, and it's a great loss.
Why "New Gold Dream (81/82/83/84)"? And why the crucifix with a sacred heart? Are Simple Minds really simple? Well, upon listening to it, one would infer that yes, it's definitely simple. Just a generic '80s synthpop that didn't age well. "Someone Somewhere (in Summertime)" is a nice mellow pop track. But the rest is just a bunch of boring pop songs. The synth riffs are interesting sometimes, but the songs themselves are not that great. In the end, "New Gold Dream (81/82/83/84)" just aged together with the other synthpop albums during that time. And no matter how interesting its name is, its sound is still indistinguishable from its peers.
Awfully dated sound. Expensive production in the 80s that sounds like factory effects for karaoke on a 90s boom box. The low end has lovely punch, but the rest is just meh.
Two half decent songs. The rest is boring.
Never really cared for Simple Minds back in the day and listening to this now doesn't change my opinion. Nothing for me here as their music has always been meh. Let's move on...
Meh. 5/10
I can do new wave. I can do angsty. I can do post-punk. But all three at a time? It's like mixing m&ms, skittles, and gum. Not a fan.
Boring, didn't know these were the people who made the song from breakfast club
2nd listen. I like Simple Minds, but this isn't in the same league as some of their other work. 2/5. Maybe it will grow on me in time.
// Favs: Score: Decent to Strong 2
Track 01 - 1.75/5 Track 02 - 1.5/5 Track 03 - 1.25/5 Track 04 - 1.5/5 Track 05 - 2/5 Track 06 - 1.5/5 Track 07 - 1.25/5 Track 08 - 1.75/5 Track 09 - 2/5 Overall: 1.75/5 Album Art: 2/5
It's fine. but i'm never going to listen to it again. Of the synth pop 80s, there's stuff i enjoy a lot more.
i have no idea why this album is dressed up as a bible. 2 good tracks and a load of filler - just read one of the other ones about this format of album. strong 80s vibe, just doesn't really do anything with it.
Background music for a Jesus-based circle jerk.
Not my taste in music. But a decent listen
Just okay. There are a lot of repeats on this album
What a dreary affair. I have never got Simple Minds and this doesn’t help. What is Jim Kerr singing? Who knows? His vocals are lost in the mix, in favour of synths and echo. A band in love with the sound they are making. Such future! Maybe.
Never been a huge stereotypical 80's music fan but I'm sure someone who appreciates that genre would love it
2/5 naaaah
Eh. Nothing special.
i must be having a bad day or something, because i thought i was gonna like this, and i just didn't care. it was another album that faded into the background, and i only really noticed when it was over and the style changed as whatever next track came up.
Didnt do much for me unfortunately
starts ok, then there are a couple rough ones.
Tecno
First listen. I like Simple Minds, but I heard nothing special here. 2/5 for now. Maybe it get's better with time.
7th September 2021 Listened on my phone during the day before meeting mum and fi in Victoria for supper and going to watch constellations again with Russell tovey this time. I liked this, I liked the anthemic vibe that they would go on to become more famous for.
Just a dime a dozen.
Super boring
simple music made for Simple Minds, you really do need a simple mind to like this
Not my jam. But, good 80's cheese
Standard Pop made uninteresting... 2 Stars because I didn't hate it, it was just dull.
Some great 80s sounds but as an album it's just fine
Not bad, definitely not their best.... didnt enjoy the production of it, vocals were too low on a lot of the album.
It's weird but I don't think that I like 80s synthpop/new wave- weird because I LOVE modern day synthpop. This album sounds like one long track vs. 9 independent tracks. It's very plodding to get through. The songs are also WAY too long.
New Gold Dream really feels like a circular conversation put to music. The lyrics are nonsensical in the worst way, and the grooves never amount to anything beyond a flourish here and there. Definitely some worthwhile stuff hidden away here, but it's only worth listening to for archaeological purposes, not really for enjoyment. Fav Tracks: Promised You A Miracle
Such a huge band but not my flavour
Did not recognize many of these songs
Saved Prior: Promised You A Miracle Off Rip: Someone Somewhere (In Summertime) Cutting Edge: Big Sleep Overall Notes: Blended into the background most of the time. Not what I expected since Promised You A Miracle is such an odd song. Fine, but wouldn't be anywhere close to my first pick if you asked me to play an 80's synth album (shoutout OMD).
80s total. Synths, sonidos y percusión chula
This 80s style just isn't really my thing
snork
I did not find this very interesting.
Wel prima maar nooit de grootste fan geweest van simple minds
It’s super 80s and I’m not sure how I feel about it in this list?
80's new wave sound. I'm didn't really know any of the songs. Was this one of the top albums to listen to before I die?
Wanted to love this but it just washed over me, oh well
Jams all the way through, though the sound seems dated. Perhaps I'm just jaded due to my love of e.g. Kate Bush and the high average rating I've given these albums so far. Is this actually worse overall than Tommy?
a mess :/
No ... just, no.
New wave no way Also (what the hell are these numbers)
There are so many New Wave albums on the list. Fucking insane. Only 3 of them are good, and this isn't one of them.
Make it stop. 1/5.
Just couldn't really find anything here that interesting at all today. Not sure what it is. Maybe washed out 80s production? Slightly excentric sprawling songwriting? Dunno. Just didn't sit great today
I've always hated this band for no particular reason.
idk 0 bangers but i like the 80’s sounds
Boring
Damn, this was boring.
I’ve learned I hate 80’s pop
This reminded me of the holding music you hear when trying to get hold of your banks call centre.
Didn’t get through it. The new wave-y singing doesn’t really do it for me
Simple Minds always represented the bland corporate music world to me in the 80s. If you knew you listened to music that sucked and you were looking to loudly proclaim to others, "I think music should be stripped of all that makes it wonderful and alive," then my bet was that you were driving around the 80s popping in a Simple Minds CD. Their earlier Chelsea Girls song is pretty decent. Seems like they sold their souls at some point for a record contract and a room full of synths.
This is what it would sound like if Billy Idol got with Tears For Fears and made music that sucked and is boring
80s synth pop has got to be the most annoying crap ever.
1. zomeone - 1.5 2. uuheel - 1.5 3.miracle - 1 4. Sleep - 1.5 5. Up - 1 6. Gold - 1 7. Prize - 1 8. Hunter - 1.5 9. King - 1
Very very very not for me.
I give it one star because I can’t give negative stars. It’s the worst kind of pretentious tripe. Elevated elevator music.
Nop, no me gustó
They were so committed to their target audience that they named the band after it. Like this is so boring, exactly the kind of thing you put on in the background when you need some white noise but can't be bothered to actually focus on the music. I appreciate that music like that has it's place, but for me personally I just don't see the point. Maybe I'm just too pretentious to understand it, but to me music is art that should be listened to with intent, but this is just so innocuous that you can't do that with it. But it's weird, there is nothing actively unpleasant about this, but the fact that it's so generic makes it unpleasant in a way. If this album came out today I would probably accuse it of being AI generated, it really is on that level.
This was ok I guess. A frantic day and I didn’t really pay much attention to it. Decent enough background music I guess. I did keep seeing how much longer it was because it felt long.
Oh yeah, I remember that album so clearly, I was totally annoyed. All my friends were Simple Minds fans. I had to listen to Simple Minds everywhere I went. It was just awful. The voice really grated on me. That kind of synth-pop wasn't for me. Hey, I like synthesizers and guitars, but Simple Minds, no thanks. "Promised Me... Nothing"- if I have to listen to that album again "drehe ich am Rad"
Simple Minds Simply Put Simply Stinks.
some good songs. too long
New wave is one of the worst eras of music we've ever suffered
I did not need to hear this before I died. In fact, as this made no impact on my brain or ears while it was playing, I might argue that I still have not heard it.
track 3
boring, yawning
bru
Commits the Unforgivable Sin of music, namely, being super boring vocals are buried in the mix and a huge wash of reverb. song construction is non-existent, like a guy who just learned the bass came up with some riffs and then built up a bunch of other instruments around them over the next few years. Bleh
Alberner Hupfauf!
45 minutes of chud from the one hit wonder that brought you "Don't You Forget About Me". Next.
I feel like this is one of those bands that I need to read about so I understand something larger than life they are responsible for hence being on this list. But in the interim, here we are: one star.
Straight up not listening to 4 hours of this be so for real
there are some good synth sounds in here, but this is largely on the "nope, not for me" end of the 80s scale. 1.5
Boring.
With every one of these I feel worse and worse about how I rated Tears For Fears. I listened to this three times and can recall the chorus to Promised You A Miracle and that’s about it.
I wanted to like this. Hey, some early 80s stuff, long enough ago to have matured into itself. But no. I hated this. Of all the albums I've listened to, this one made me wonder what I was doing with my time. The tired drum repeating, the synth just humming along, I kept waiting for it to go somewhere and it just never did. Tedious.
These were not good
One great song.
pass
Not my jams
Nope not for me
This was not engaging me. The echoey quality of the vocals were a huge turn off, none of the music was catching my ear. TG I didn't listen to the 4 hour version
nah
Terrible and terribly boring. Why was this on this list.
I kind of like a number of Simple Minds hits, this one only had one of them though. The rest of the album was a real snorefest though. Basic 80's pop but completely devoid of the upbeat atmosphere that the rest of the 80's and their later work also had. Completely forgettable listen. They were a popular band but this doesn't feel worthy of inclusion on the list. I really don't find any merit in this listen. Promised you a miracle isn't even that good.
Simply boring
Simple Minds have a very particular sound. To my ear, it is the type of 80s music I do not enjoy. If you happen to like this style of 80s music, and like any of the most popular songs from Simple Minds, you will love this album. I do not.
2 for promised you a miracle .
10 seconds in I thought "I'm not going to like this and it's going to be a looong listen" and I was unfortunately right.
Yawn
Just meh. It was new wave pop. Nothing stood out.
No thank you! (Jesus music)
New Gold Dream - Simple Minds ⭐️ One of those albums that makes absolutely no sense as to why it's included on the 1001 list, no sense at all. I hated Trout Mask Replica a lot more but at least I get why it's on the list but New Gold Dream? No clue. None. OK, so you like synth pop then why not listen to Yazoo or Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark? At least both bands have some kind of personality, some kind of life to them. New Gold Dream is just another crappy 1980s album and hardly the only dreck on the 1001 it's just a little (OK a lot) more soul numbingly boring than most albums I have ever heard not the worst not even close, they play their instruments well enough, the singer has a decent enough voice but FUCK ME I couldn't wait for it to end. I listen to every album I generate from start to finish and if you don't why are you even reading this? I fully expect some one-star albums, but this one just confuses me- why is it on here? Who honestly thinks that anyone has to listen to New Gold Dream before you die? Sadistic much? Anyone? Seriously what a messed-up thing to wish other people's lives. If I get a few more albums like this in a row- I'm out NOT finishing this project. I have close to 1000 vinyl albums & just over 2,000 albums on CD so what am I doing hearing stuff that makes me wonder why I even like music? Downvote that, bitch.
This may be the most boring 80s album recorded. It’s a big yawn from start to finish. So bland.
This was a chore to get through, a long and unrewarding drudge, drowning in 80s synth and instantly forgettable lyrics. I'm not a fan of 1980s pop music and this isn't even a particularly good example of the genre.
😬 not my thing
Yawn. I've no nostalgia at all for this. There's brighter, wetter, sexier 80s albums out there, what is this doing on the list??
Yikes
Bad
Boring. They made one of the best pop songs ever though. Have trouble locking into this stuff though
Not into this at all skip!
One of the worst-mixed records I have ever heard. Generic and inconsistent. No thanks.
This album felt like being trapped at an empty disco on a night that never ends. No body is dancing, nobody is talking, everyone is just looking for the door. Guitar riffs were the only aspect of the sound I enjoyed.
I would hear Someone Somewhere again but the echo effects is telling me no.... Colours Fly and Catherine Wheel Feha Fekra Big Sleep starting in an interesting way but then went in a direction that I don't prefer. New Gold Dream has potential but Habada also Glittering Prize where I can actually finally hear what he is saying In most of the songs the music is louder than his voice its hard to hear what he is sayinnnggggg. Im too triggered its a 1
Ok only songs I care about are the singles I guess. Honestly I like the soundscapes a lot it’s mostly just the lyrics and repetitive nature of things that kinda bother me. Just feels like it’s on the verge of being great but just isn’t. Fav tracks: Someone Somewhere (In Summertime) Glittering Prize I fw this a lot just wish it was a tiny bit better and less repetitive: Promised You A Miracle
Too long. Couldn't get through more than six songs
decided that new wave is my least favorite genre. 1/5
Måske lidt harsh at give den 1, jeg syntes faktisk Glittering Prize var lidt en banger, men too little too late! meget kedeligt album!
Suuuuper boring... New wave is OVERrepresented on this list...
Brutal. I know that part of what I miss is not having lived through this, but I cannot fathom how this kind of music was thought to be the best we could muster at the time.
everyone else is only listening to the tracks on the original release too, right? Straight up didn't like this.
Oh, 80s synth pop… no thanks.
This felt like one long, very dull song. Nothing stood out and I was only happy when it was finished. Can’t fathom how this album would rate an entire 4 disc box set. Wouldn’t listen again.
Absolute lifeless 80s trash. Suffered as anticipated from start to finish. How can anyone think this is remotely remarkable at all
I couldn’t wait for this to end. The 80s were a hell of a time.
Damn, even my 80’s era wife can’t stand these new wave twits. All I think about when I hear this stuff is a whiny and desperate John Cryer and his gayass bouffant in Pretty in Pink. No thanks.
Just not for me.
I honestly think the 80s were the lowest decade for music and this hasn't helped sway my opinion
80s glam, not my jam
Oof I hate the song I know from this band so I'm not looking forward to this but we'll see! I am shocked to learn this is not only not a one hit wonder band (the song from The Breakfast Club), but also that song isn't even on this album. I tried to find stuff to like in here but ultimately hated it.
Was this band Duran Duran at one point? New Wave music is terrible. Each song is somehow both better and worse than the one before it. This album is awful. This is one of the worst non-experimental albums I've ever heard. I understand why this album made the list. This is the band that literally every other New Wave band of every variety sounds like. A uniquely terrible album.
pff.. typische eighties brol... synths, gezwollen zang, plastieken drums...alle nummers onderling inwisselbaar
Whole range ehhs no massive 80’s hitters for me. Quite boring throughout the album. Only redeeming song is Someone somewhere and even that’s just alright
Literally didn’t bother, nothing good came from the 80’s except for Miami vice and it’s aesthetic
Not bad but not super memorable to me. It may be this site is giving me too much 80's which is a shame as I've turned around on the decade but these guys aren't standing out from the best of that decade's new wave/pop bands as of yet.
ugh i tried i’m so sorry simple minds but this is just not it for me. everything sounds the same and why is the whole album 4 hours long, with different versions of the same like 6 songs. i couldn’t even make it through disc 1😔
So tired of this new wave bullshit. This shouldn’t be in the top 10 million albums. Stop it!!!!
Dreary stuff.
Usually when talentless bands release an album in the 80's there is at least one hit written by some some songwriter not in the band. NOT HERE! This album doesn't even have a hit...
For this phase of 1K+1AtLtBYD, I'm not wasting my time for the sake of the project. I hate this.
1. Open up 1001 albums generator 2. Check your new album of the day 3. See that it is a new wave album (ol' reliable) 4. Click the one star rating 5. Continue on with your day
Umm no
This is some UK new wave pop synth stuff from the early 80s that I just could not care less about listening to.
3/10 very subpar 80s music
I hate how hard it is to hear the lyrics. I really did not care for this album. Extremely boring. Couldn’t hear the lyrics. Unemotional.
Just a collection of nothing songs.
Didn’t enjoy this sound
Simple Minds = Simple Music? Not for me...
80er ja, dieses Album nein!
Metallisch kalt.
I liked Promised You a Miracle but it some how managed to be repetitive despite being fairly short. The rest of the album was Simply Forgettable
snoozefest
Dated and incredibly corny music.
This album cover is the worst. Oh this is not my kind of music. The bass player stands out. Promised You a Miracle and Glittering Prize are okay. Still plagues me, why do so many 80s singers sing like this? Not even this amazing bass player can save this for me. I gotta go 1.
2 Fuck it this was really fucking boring 1
not my jam
now sure who is this new wave boring shit is, but its not for me NNN
Unbelievably bland. Like unseasoned chicken left under a heat lamp for an eternity. Doesn't even have the end of the Breakfast Club song. Probably a good cure for insomnia. Definitely inspired U2s post 1997 output.
Didn’t even make it past the first song.
Not much of an 80s pop fan and this contained all of the tropes that put me off. Takes itself way too seriously, a particular crooning singing style that wears thin and overuse of wishy washy synths. Sounds more dated than a lot of the 60s/70s stuff we've had. Bass is tight though.
I expected a lot more. Very, very boring and forgettable.
This album is so 80s, I just hated it all. That sound just has not aged well.
2 80s 4 me Didn't enjoy any of this really, this kind of 80s sound just doesn't do anything for me at all...I will concede that there is some good bass at times but still no
Anyone who rates this above a 2 has a simple mind.
Nope, nothing there that I liked
Didn't listen too much cause I can tell I don't like it. Album cover is too religious too
Why?
ugh too 80’s for me!
One of the worst albums I’ve ever heard
1.5
To 80's for my taste
2016*. Key Songs: New Gold Dream
