Nunca pude conectar con Cohen, aburrido y lento, no llegó a emocionarme

On paper I should love Leonard Cohen. He checks most of my boxes - but I simply can’t get too into him. I don’t find anything he does on this terribly interesting. The first live tune on this was the highlight for me - the rest was meh.

I didn't want one Bob Dylan in my life, and now I have two

Mad respect for LC, but this ain't for me.

Not for me

Prefer my LC a bit perkier than this dour batch.

I didn't really enjoy this. Even compared to other Cohen albums on here. I'm sure the lyrics are nice, but if I don't enjoy listening to it why not just write poems?

mitä ohmettä peruskauraa...

Vaikea keksiä mikä olisi oikea hetki näyt... eikun kuunnella tämän herran musaa. Töiden taustalla se ei toimi, autoillessa saattaisi ajaa vastaantulevan rekan keulaan, videopeleissä hukkuu muuhun meteliin. Mikä on se oikea hetki? Saunassa tai suihkussa? Karismaa kyllä löytyy. Vaikea.

Tylsällä tavalla pliisu

Girlllllll I could feel this concert through my screen

Opinion for this album would massively change depending on the mood you are in. Personally I thought it was okay but I don't think I was quite in the head-space to really appreciate it

Definitely not my favorite Leonard Cohen album.

Bit too melancholy for me

I’m sure Cohen is seen as a poet for a generation, but I have a hard time focusing on his music. A lot of the time it feels like the guitar is just too frantic. There are other folks artists and albums which appeal to me, this one can stay in the played once pile.

whiny and drawn out, it's fine

I'll continue to check out Leonard Cohen albums from time to time and I'm happy that this list has had a few but this didn't do much for me. It felt tedious. 6-minute songs with sparse arrangements focused on acoustic guitar and little in the way of hooks. There are poetic lyrics (but not much that grabbed me) and some beautiful guitar playing (opener "Avalanche" has a great, Western-sounding guitar part) but the album dragged for me. I need a little more drama maybe. Or more of an emotional entry point. Or more variation in song style. "Diamonds in the Mine" was a strange, upbeat song but that was the only one that picked up the pace at all.

Another one of those artists that i just don't get. lyric heavy music does nothing for me

Diamonds in the Mine //

Too slow, too dreary, and too boring.

I'm sure I should enjoy this more than I did, but I found it all a bit dreary.

Album #4 One to come back to when I’ve got ADHD medication.

I’ve already DNF’d two of Cohen’s albums on this list, so why not a 3rd. It’s way too monotone and boring. I don't get how there are already at least 3 of his albums on this list

That's enough Leonard now thanks.

I hate it more than I love it. I'm just not a lyrics guy, and whilst some of the tunes are ok ("Sing another Song, Boys", "Famous Blue Raintcoat") there wasn't a thing I wanted to listen to again.

I like his voice. But nothing I would listen to a whole album long. Simply not my prefered style of music. 🥱 2,5

God I really don't like Leonard Cohen and his vocals. Thought I was going to make it through this one and then Diamonds in the Mine came on. Why. 3.5/10 (1.75/5)

The repetitive guitar riff on the first track is nice and I was actually liking this on the first two songs, and then it dropped off HARD for me. I remember when he died it was like a huge deal, I just knew him as the Hallelujah guy. Hearing this album makes me think everyone else is crazy for worshiping this dude - this was BORING AS HELL to get through despite it being a pretty short album. This guy is just moaning, and when "Diamonds in the Mine" came on I actually got angry with how annoying it was to listen to. I get that it's 'artsy' or whatever but that doesn't mean it also has to be garbage. Would only listen to the first track again.

Is there anything here that Dylan didn't do better ten years earlier

Leonard Cohen is emo for the late 60s and 70s. I'm fairly sure he only knows how to sing 2 or 3 notes. He only knows how to play melancholy melodies. His music is haunting but it can never seem to capture me the way I expect it to

This is pre gravel voice. Not sure what to do with this one.

Like much of Cohen's work, the lyricism is multi layered, each line intentional and pretty heavy thematically. But it's kind of a downer, and musically doesn't do much for me. I feel bad rating it low from an objective standpoint but subjectively i doubt i'll listen to this again.

Y'know, listening to this, I was thinking back on why I gave IF YOU WANT IT DARKER a 5, and how much of it was because it was "the album he released before he died." Now, of course it's not the sole reason; that's shallow and would ignore everything being done there. The soundscapes, the mood, his voice, the lyrics I managed to catch... Like, it would have been an amazing album either way, but with the extra, unintended context of his passing, it just became all the more powerful. Here, then, we have an album on the opposite end of his life; his second ever released. The one I kept hearing described as "bleak," "depressing," "scary," "a mirror..." All that. It's probably his most famous album besides his debut or whichever one "Hallelujah" is on. A poet singer-songwriter's masterwork. And if this thing is a mirror... Well, I'unno how it reflects back on me that my second time listening to the back four songs on this album, I straight-up fell asleep halfway through. Like, don't get me wrong, there's stuff I like about this album. His guitar playing style on "Avalanche" was unexpected, but I was pretty amazed by it. And I can certainly hear, in its atmosphere, why everyone keeps saying it's so depressing. But then, that's also kind of the problem there: it's depressing, and aside from one or two songs, it hardly changes from that mood. Which is only a problem for me because I'm not in a state of mine where I can relate—or, at the very least, I don't feel like I'm smart enough to understand the lyrics well enough to get it. Like, trust me, I know there's no shame in it, but I still feel so stupid having to hop over to Genius and rely on their annotations to figure out that he's singing about Nico. I mean, I don't wanna have it come across like "sad music bad; happy music good." That's not it at all; there's plenty of sad songs I can put on and enjoy. It's just, when it comes to the super poetic singer-songwriter playing an acoustic guitar late-60's sorta deal... I'unno, I've enjoyed Bob Dylan's nonsense word salads more than I have whatever points Cohen's trying to make here. So, y'know, I wanted to give this thing a 3 at least. Like, hey, there's part of the instrumentation I enjoy, and maybe if I sat down and read all the Genius annotations... But I just gotta rate it how I feel. And to that, I **do** feel a little bad about it. Of course, I don't hafta be generous just because he's passed on, or so often called a genius, or a fellow Canadian, but... I guess combined with what I was talking about in the first sentence, it seems like if he'd passed shortly after this album and it that surrounding context I would've rated it a lot higher. And to be honest—maybe. Maybe I would have. But in a timeline where he thankfully went on to release a lot more music... I'unno. This just really wasn't my thing.

Doesn’t show him at his best often shows him at his worst.

Ugh His voice is bad. This is my 2nd album of his and I'm shocked that he made this list not once - but twice at least The smokers cough type of screaming on "Diamonds in the mine" was enough to drive anyone to insanity This album really should be a 1 but some of the songs could have been really nice if sung by literally anyone else. The backing vocals also helped bump the rating up a tiny bit 2 ⭐️

Don’t honestly love Cohens voice. A lot of love for the song Hallelujah, but honestly could take or leave this album

Not a huge fan of this. The tone is moody, his voice isn’t great, and the lyrics sound “poetic” but not very meaningful in my estimation, at least not in the current day and age. A few of the songs were decent, but still nothing I would intentionally listen to again.

Lyricism aside, I had a hard time getting into this album. Not much to catch and hold your attention. I appreciate Cohen’s storytelling, it just wasn’t for me.

As someone who doesn't pay attention to lyrics, I feel like I'm really missing out here. The music is pretty slow and sad. It doesn't feel complicated or interesting, but I'm sure that the lyrics are deep and meaningful. Unfortunately, the melodies don't do anything for me.

bardzo interesujaca muzyka ale on przeszkadza

I’m going to go kill myself now.

Åbneren var rigtig fed. Tilbageholdt frustration i stemmen. Resten blev lidt balle og lala. Det er virkelig laaangt det her album... Især sidste nummer var en milepæl inden for drænende tempo.

Mindless wallpaper drivel. Other than some nice guitar, this seriously lacks substance. 2/5.

Leonard Cohen halt. Bissi anstrengend

I don’t know what to say. Not terrible songs but just a bit depressing

Leonard bores me senseless

I think of Leonard Cohen more of a poet or novelist and not a singer, musician. He turned to the music industry when he was disappointed in his career as a writer in the mid-1960s. His lyrics are very good, poetic, and dark, but musically I can't say anything good about this album, it's very samey and his voice is not enjoyable for me. I want to enjoy his art more but I can't get really into his songs (except when I read his lyrics if they were poems).

Well, it's better than the last Cohen album I listened to... but not by a hell of a lot. This feels like outsider art, in all the wrong ways. Songs are drawn out MUCH longer than they should be, and it's tough to tolerate. HIs voice is terrible and he prefers to talk sing, which sucks. Music is so... "skim-milk", for lack of a better analogy. After a single song, it all seems to simply drone on endlessly. Similar tempos, similar keys, similar vocal style; the repetitious feeling is like I'm going crazy. I can barely tell where one song ends and the next begins. Is that his point?

Cohen is a legend so I can't say I hate it, but I don't like it. 2.8

Worst Bob Dylan cover band ever.

Kinda whinny

Outside of Hallelujah I’ve never understood the appeal of him. The lyrics are ok, but the songs are mostly pretty lame. Not for me.

70s emo

I don’t understand why he is on this list. He is not that good or deserving of it.

I've tried and tried but I just can't get beyond his dour vocals. And let's be honest, there's sod all melody (every song sounds the same). I don't even rate his lyrics that much either, too much of a reliance on clichés (the rain etc). One of the most overrated acts. The one notable thing is the understated shimmering music, now that is actually good. I've said it before and I'll say it again; this list has some pretty poor choices, overlooking recordings by lesser known artists (and some major ones) that deserve more recognition. Anyway, rant over.

Started off well then went down from there. Maybe the impact he was after was in the title to begin with.

Only not 1 star because one song his voice was fukn raw. Folksy poetry type lyrics, but I struggle to listen to lyrics so I didn't like it much

Mjög gott, ljúft ot auðvelt að hlusta á

He's good, but I don't like him that much.

Me gusta la música depresiva, pero Leonard Cohen me aburre.

A poet who sings, Patti Smith is better at it and I don't need a masters in English Lit to interpret her lyrics. Like Dylan, The Grateful Dead and Leonard Cohen other people cover their songs better then they do. kd lang in Cohen's instance. There are four Cohen albums on this list. ....there are no diamonds in the mine. 2*

If Cohen had 1001 albums the book would be 1001 Leonard Cohen albums to listen to before you die. This was my 1032'nd album. I thought I was done with him, but no! He's still here. Great that he can smile on the cover. He just dragged me through a depressing montage of bleak and mirky music. I certainly wasn't smiling listening to this.

So far these are just songs I hate. I've given Leonard a few shots now and I don't really get the appeal. Maybe I just don't like feeling or feeding sad. The poetic aspects are random and obscure with a lyrical sprinkle of something biblical or historical. He's got a great backing band, however.

More of a poet than a songwriter. But man is be just so depressing and dreary. Try going out a bit more might find a DnD group or something.

Too sad and dreary for me.

Great Lyricism but I just get bored. I understand he's a great writer but that doesn't change the fact I just can't pay attention to it. Favorites were Diamonds in the Mine and Joan of Arc.

I get the poetic aspect but I just cannot deal with his voice and the music. It’s dreary

The instrumentation is so pure and intoxicating, but I cannot get past how flat Cohen’s voice is. I guess you have to work with what you’ve got, and admittedly the few times he does go up or down on the register it makes an impact, but the overall lack of variety in the singing is too significant to ignore. I did enjoy the songwriting, some much cheekier moments than expected! Favorite track: Famous Blue Raincoat

SONGS OF LOVE AND HATE seems so dependent upon the point of view of the listener that anything Cohen wrote as lyrics seems rendered meaningless. The album does not provide earworms to aid the listener's concentration and help with the decoding. By album's conclusion everything was forgettable and I felt no insights about his love nor his hate. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy some of Leonard Cohen's work, but it is songs like "Everybody Knows" and "Hallelujah", released at a time when the song production seemed more fully realized, and I've never enjoyed his songs for what his lyrics might actually be about. Perhaps I see and experience too much joy in my life to truly live inside Leonard Cohen songs. Or perhaps it was just the wrong day for the algorithm to serve this album up for me. Who knows?

too monotonous

Not for me.

He sounds bored. It's contagious. Favorite song: avalanche

I have never heard this album. My familiarity with Leonard Cohen pretty much begins and ends with "Everybody Knows" from the soundtrack to "Pump Up the Volume". Leonard Cohen weaves a wonderful song, but they are so dreary. I like his voice, the backing vocals enrich the songs, but I just don't like it all.

It’s better if you play it twice the speed. But it’s Leonard Cohen, and he does what he does.

Very, Very Somber

If I wasn't told who the artist was I would have thought it was Johnny Cash. The album was a bit too depressing for my taste. 2

The guitar work is good but vocals are way too folky for my taste.

i wanted to like this a lot more than i did...avalanche was a strong start but it got boring after that

This is his weakest album? I was not that fond of him blatantly screaming

Kinda felt like a Bob Dylan knock off. I don’t think I’ve had that feedback for Leonard yet so maybe it was a phase he went through but I’d prefer Dylan doing Dylan. The guitar in the first song was great though, reminded me of Spanish Fly or Little Guitars

Cohen has a great voice, but this whole thing just falls into that category of music that I hear but just can’t ever focus on and really listen. It’s not captivating.

I liked Avalanche, but just didn't like the 'sing talking' through the whole album

It was fine.

didnt like it that much standout track: diamonds in the mine

Another folk album from Leonard can't-make-a-good-album-name Cohen. I can't really bring myself to enjoy this guy's music. I mean, I get folk. It's about the lyrics. I know that song is rooted in poetry, but that doesn't mean that you can recite poetry over a generic instrumental and expect me to enjoy it. Heck, there's even some enjoyable folk out there. Singers with better voice than him, musicians with more interesting instrumental talent than him... maybe it's just the lyrics.

Don’t really like his voice at all

Depressingly horny. Is Leonard Cohen depressed because he's horny or is he horny because he's depressed? By any account, he needs a therapist.

Need more time to listen fully

Like a less fun, more creepy Bob Dylan.

As Below, Not for me, sorry Mr Cohen.

Eh, I found this album pretty boring. The lyrics sounded like someone trying really hard to be deep (with a couple of songs that too clearly invoke slitting wrists - man, don't listen to this album if you're depressed). His voice is monotonous and the songs drag out without a lot of change. At least most of the songs are based on a nice riff, especially Avalanche, Love Calls You By Your Name, Joan of Arc, and Famous Blue Raincoat (which had the nicest vocal tune - less monotonous). Not terrible as background sound, I suppose, so I'll go with a 2.

Bob Dylan, if Bob Dylan stopped trying.

I can actually imagine this being great if you were into the genre. For me though, just a bit depressing and, after a few songs, dull.

Meh wasn’t a huge fan, felt like they were trying to be Lou reed but with less catchy tunes

I did not like this album. Leonard Cohen does not have a voice for public consumption. He has written some really good songs. This album also shows that he has written some very incredibly mediocre songs. I think he's great when he has other people to bring his better poetry to life. This was not an example of that.

Some people I just don’t get. This is one of them. He sounds drunk at his desk just rambling and ugh post production of some ladies intercut in. Meh.

A few good songs, but not enough instrumentation interest for me to pair the droning vocals with.

I guess Cohen's voice is the main attraction here and I didn't like it that much.

Not my favorite… a real downer which was not what I was in the mood for today.

Even I wasn't this depressed when I got diagnosed with depression, Jesus

It was a lil dry and depressing. I don’t think LC is for me.

Bien, pero muy intenso-denso para oírlo entero(PSP)

Just can't do it.....

Ok I guess. I was glad the album was short though. Not sure I could listen to his version of a concept double album

he seems angry, I just don't like his voice

I'm starting to think I shouldn't be listening to these albums on my commute to and from work. Lenny needs to chill out. Avalanche slaps, but the rest is dire and frankly I'm not in the mood.

Bob Dylan vibes, not in a good way

Not my kind of 🎶!

Meh, it didn't convince me

This is the 5th Leonard Cohen album on this list. It is unnecessary. As previously noted, he cannot sing. The writing is meh. I did not skip any songs but the album is just over 40 minutes. It wasn't the worst on the list. I will round up to a 2.

While Cohen's picking and singing remain untouchable on this LP, his bitter attitude tinges a good deal of the songs on here with way more hate than love. Something about the disposition towards cloistered, minor-key fugues here with only a few sardonically cheery ones to balance out just put a bad taste in my mouth, and the clear pro-life sentiment of 'Diamonds in the Mine' certainly doesn't help either (and has aged rather poorly).

Tortured Soul. The music is hard felt but it didn't resonate with me.

Cara podia só escrever e deixar a cantoria pra quem sabe. Triste.

This one didn’t do anything for me. Can see why it’s on the list. But it was very dull.

Some songs nostalgic, not really for me, but can set a mood for when walking and has an almost monochromatic atmosphere (good for winter)

The early 70s must have been a dark time

He has way better albums.

Kjedeligare enn eg håpte på

I actually really liked Avalanche, the album opener, so I was kind of wondering if I would be more into this album, especially when compared to other Cohen albums I've heard from this project. But as things progressed, I kind of lost interest. It was okay, but I ultimately just don't think Leonard Cohen is much for me. His impact and place on this project is certainly undeniable, though.

pajero

Interesting mix of classic Leonard Cohen stuff and some crazy tracks that almost sound like a joke at Leonard's expense (Diamonds in the Mine). Not my cup of tea.

Lyrics were great, guitar was decent, and Cohen's voice is not my cup of tea. Feels like he has barely any vocal range for a famous singer.

Songs of Love and Hate started off well, with beautiful guitars and haunting deep vocals, but then kind of fell off the wagon from there. Which mirrors Cohen's state of mind at the time according to an interview with Throat Culture magazine stating that "absolutely everything was beginning to fall apart around me: my spirit, my intentions, my will. So I went into a deep and long depression." Best: Avalanche Worst: Diamonds In The Mine

this was quite a drag....

How dreadfully dreary. A little like Paul Simon on barbiturates. I was almost tempted to turn it off half way through but the introduction to Diamonds in the Mine caught my attention. Something a little more upbeat, almost enjoyable? … then he started “singing”

not good. 2.

felt like a mix between bob dylan and lou reed.

Meh. Overrated, so here's an overly harsh 2 to help correct that.

I did not really enjoy this project. I guess I'm glad I listened to it and will maybe return to a song or two, but otherwise don't see quite how it made this list.

OK. 2.75/5

Frist song was amazing but the rest of it was some of worst singing or I even call screaching I ever heard. I have no need to finsh this album

It was okay, pleasant enough

Long, boring, slow, samey. Some of the songs are “pretty” but the lyrics seem nonsensical and meandering. The “prettiness” wears off quickly.

I didnt love it but, to be fair, didn't entirely hate it either. I can't get on board with his voice, and all the songs sound the same because of it. The lyrics are as not as good as his reputation would suggest, perhaps it was easier to be considered good when there hadn't been as much music.

The partnering of matter-of-fact singing with vocal chorales is something that Lou Reed does as well as Leonard Cohen. It just seems that the former does it better. This album didn’t really hit it for me.

A legend but not my style

I like some of his more famous songs, but not a fan of his vocals for a full album.

Weer zo'n sympatieke artiest waar ik verder weinig aan vind.

Ik heb het een paar nummers geprobeerd, maar die stem trek ik - net als bij Dylan - niet.

Leonard bromt een beetje op deze plaat.

Interesting but not for me

Lyssnade i Gif-Sur-Yvette

Maybe if I spent more time with Leonard Cohen, something would click. Still getting nothing much from him

So overbearing. At least it wasn't his "sexy" album. This list loves singers who can't sing.

This seems like the nineteenth LC album this site has sent me. I'm sure it's great and he's sincere but not what I wanted for my birthday

“Songs of Love and Hate,” aka “More Songs of Leonard Cohen,” opens with the best Cohen song on the five albums we’ve listened to - “Avalanche.” The rest is, like other songs of Leonard Cohen, not for me.

I never quite get to loving LC. It's more like songs that I tolerate and hate.

Once again for the third Leonard Cohen album in a short time, his voice is a major problem. It’s just bad. Not offensive, but bad nonetheless. His voice kind of works on Avalanche. It’s still disappointing though because the song could be so much better if someone better were singing. I am not looking forward to the last 2 albums of his on the list. I’m already expecting my review for his 5th album to start, “Not this asshole’s voice again…”

A bit of a slog for me - no doubting the mans talents but not for me

This album should be named Songs TO Love and Hate. Some of the songs are quite pretty and have a very “drunk alone next to your fireplace” feel. However, one thing they all have in common is that they all just feel absolutely depressing. It’s a very specific mood that the album places you in. If you didn’t want to be in that mood, you’ll likely hate the songs. If you want to be, or were in that mood in the first place, you might love the songs. However, for me, this is a mood I rarely ever want to be in. Favorite track: Famous Blue Raincoat

background music

I like deep throat, growly Len. This album seems like a transition from folk singer to storyteller. I need to come back to this to take in some of the themes and tales being told.

I just find his songs a bit boring.

Started off pretty strong, but went downhill fast.

I like to think that so many of his songs have been covered by other artists because they said to themselves, "I think I can sing this song better than that."

Incredibly boring lol

This is Leonard Cohen's third album of folk rock music. It was one of his most successful albums around the world. And as one can tell from the album title, this album was emotional and seemed to classify Cohen as a "downer". It's no surprise that Cohen revealed he was going through a bout of depression during the recordings for this album. The music on this album complimented the rainy weather on the other side of my window in such a way, that it made the listening experience so much better. I'm not normally a fan of slow, folk rock music, however today and this album was an exception. This album is one to listen to when you're in your feels.

Didn’t love or hate this album. Leonard cohens voice here is very unique. His singing cadence is more of a talking. The songs aren’t too bad though. 4.9/10

Hand me a rope

Sounds the exact same as Songs From A Room, poetry with some instrumentation in monotone voice

I can’t get on board with this morose stuff!

Dreadful dirges. I don't think I like poetry.

2/5 - Cant face any more Leonard Cohen. I'm sure the album is great, but its not for me.

I struggled with this one, just not my cup of tea.

The Canadian Bob Dylan. I intensely dislike Dylan so you know where this is going. I know Cohen is greatly revered and has influenced many great artists so I think if I was to read and ponder his lyrics I would appreciate him more. But Gawd he has such a dreary maudlin whiny voice that I can’t even go there. You mean people actually seek out this music and claim they enjoy it? He only gets 2 stars for his lyrical poetry. Major deductions for his one note sad boy delivery.

Cohen's voice is... haunting, but very uneven. It's a tough listen and the musical accompaniment doesn't help bring the music to life.

I don't get it but understand why others might.

Не смог послушать целиком, почти впал в летаргический сон

I thought it would be… more. Maybe if I had time to sit and listen to it over and over? I know Leonard Cohen is touted as being highly influential but overall it’s not something I think I will want to come back to again and again.

it was alright i suppose. nothing special.

Voice is good, but couldn’t find much cohesion between songs

kinda drags along

This is the 4th album by Leonard Cohen for me to review on this list. The recommendation came up earlier, but it took me a while to review the album. I was not looking forward to listening. The first track, "Avalanche" and "Joan of Arc" showed some potential to possibly grow on me. "Famous Blue Raincoat" got an 'okay' from me too. There may be room for my appreciation of individual tracks to grow, but by the end of the album I am still left with the feeling that I should skip Cohen. I wouldn't listen to this album again.

No es mi estilo, ni si voz me ha gustado. Se me ha echo un poco pesado escucharlo.

Not really my thing.

Niet heel speciaal. Gewoon niet mijn muziekstijl en vond het daarom niks. Diamonds in the mine was wel een plus puntje.

Not sad enough to listen to this right now (go me), but I made myself. Maybe Leonard Cohen does tend towards the over wrought :-/ the poetry background was clear here lol. Kept thinking about how case of blue is about this man ?? I feel like Joni Mitchell’s love is the strongest possible recommendation, but.....not feeling this. Still like famous blue raincoat, tho. And what’s with him and Joan of Arc?

сразу включаешь 7 трек с 4.45 и все понятно становится про этих еврейских бритосов бля и как всегда самые нормальные треки идут после окончания альбома

Será un gran poeta, pero como no lo entiendo , me resuta aburrido.

Saved Prior: None Off Rip: Avalanche; Famous Blue Raincoat; Sing Another Song, Boys Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: At the end of the 4th song, he talk/sings "That's all I got to say". Oh how I wish that was true. And I liked this album more than most of his stuff.

2/5 way too depressing

Though i appreciate the poetry, i was bored out of my mind.

Ok, not great

02/01 - Today I worked on picking up overlapping elements on the drawing sets and cleaning it up for a fresh BB print. This album was not one I would listen to in the future and was more comedic to me then it was an album of musical praise.

Too dreary.

At times a mesmerizing voice, at others a bit of a dodgy voice. A real mixed bag of an album containing some diamonds in the rough, particularly the first song.

There are some cool elements to this album and his songwriting/lyricism are very interesting. I would imagine that Leonard Cohen had a bit of influence on Kurt Cobain, honestly. Overall, though - not really an album I would just put on to listen to for fun.

A sleepy Leonard moans his way through 9 dirges

There are a lot of lyrics here but I dont have the time / patience to listen to it properly

Too miserable for me.

Perfectly fine

Laaaame

It's a third Cohen album and it all sounds the same. It starts to get boring.

First track surprised me, but the rest was what I expected.

As vezes parece mais literatura que música, não me agrada muito, tem uma conotação religiosa esquisita que também não entendo.

Interesting music and lyrics, but let's face it: Leonard Cohen was not much of a singer. I know that was part of what made him great -- the signature style -- but it really grated on me by the end of the album.

Not bad, great voice, not my style.

this was a miss, love the genre and time period, but 100% a miss

Never a great fan of Leonard Cohen. Not an album I would have chosen to listen to, but it's done now. Won't rush to put it on again 2/5

Very dark and moody, avalanch is great, some odd vocal choices later on, probably wouldn't listen again

Unlistenable dirges, sung by someone who should never have been a singer. I don't care how great the lyrics are, he should have got someone else to sing them. Genuinely nearly turned this off halfway through because I couldn't bear to listen to another identical dreary song

Not another one!😭

I’ve never liked Leonard Cohen and this album hasn’t changed my opinion.

he should be ashamed of himself

The soundtrack to drowning yourself in a bathtub.. Could have been made by the schizophrenic homeless guy behind my local grocery store.

I did it, I made it through the ridiculously over-listed LenCo. God he’s horrible. He’s unique, and some people apparently think that’s all it takes, but he’s a Weird Hard Thing You’ve Heard Is Good So You Try To Like It, *not* one of the great singer-songwriters beloved by all. Go ahead and have one album on the list (not this one, it’s ghastly), the way you have one Jaques Brel or one Einsturzende Neubauten. I dislike this music more than the average listener, but hey average listener, AT BEST you’re not missing anything. Special day though! I’m pretty sure ‘Diamonds in the Mine’ is the worst song I’ve ever heard. Can’t say that every day. And! The coda of ‘Sing Another Song, Boys’ might be the worst *part* of a song. Thanks Curator, and LenCo, I guess.

声が好きじゃない。終盤まで聞いたが面白いと思う箇所がなかった。

Nope, not today. We already listened to one of his albums. That was enough.

Not my kind of music

Unironically the first album I had to skip songs in. Just incoherent rambling over repetitive guitar grooves. This is what I’d expect Charles Manson to play to brainwash people.

malisimo, no me gusto nada. me irrito la mayoria del sonido, me parecieron oscuras los temas, y me molesto la voz

Jesus Christ on a bike no. I almost fell asleep listening to this.

Fuck, why is he so damn boring?

8 songs. 44 minutes. Thats good. But it was gay. Very country. Very gay. 0/8 0.00%

I regret the hours of my life lost suffering through these way too many Cohen albums. They’re nearly indistinguishable; just one, at the absolute very most, would have done as a representative sample.

more largely spoken word. Hard to finish this one. While it is kind of interesting, I won't listen to it again and would even change the song if it comes on again

Hated it

yeah no

Tried before and this just doesn't work for me. Not a single song from Cohen I would like. 0.7

malardo

Just like every other Leonard Cohen album: slow, monotone, spoken word.

Not for me. 1/5

I’d rather have root canal than listen to any more Len.

Reallynot to my liking, if i hear another La la la again in my life it will be too soon.

Negative stars.

There’s no musical payoff. This might as well be an audiobook with a garage band instrumental loop

What a grim and dull set of dirges. Absolutely awful.

You mis-titled the album. Songs most people HATE 1

Boring ballads. 1/5

Malo ste napunili jaja s Cijenom. Ne mogu ga više slušati. 1/5, 2/10

I did not like this one nearly as much as the other Leonard Cohen album from a few days ago. This one is pretty monotonous, 1 star.

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? Two Leonard Cohen albums in a row?? This one feels more like a poor man's Dylan ripoff. Can't believe we get a Friday and Monday bookend of this crap.

Ouch, ok two Leonard Cohen albums in a row..this album doesn't have any peaks to even out all the monotonous valleys for me.

If it was Leonard Cohen's mission to be a boring version of Bob Dylan, he knocked it out of the park. I am still bored and I finished this album 40 minutes ago

Good lord this music is so boring. If this is supposed to put me to sleep, it's working. Toward the end it was getting actively annoying to listen to though. Barely not a DNF.

Avalanche - 3/10: I just found it kind of boring. Last Year's Man - 3/10: Same as the last one, I did enjoy the guitar though. Dress Rehearsal Rag - 3/10: I don't really like the way he sings. Diamonds in the Mine - 2/10: I don't like his vocals. Love Calls You by Your Name - 3/10: I just found it boring. Famous Blue Raincoat - 3/10: I don't like how slow it is. Sing Another Song, Boys (Live at the Isle of Wight Festival, August 31, 1970) - 2/10: Boring. Joan of Arc - 3/10: Just not my favorite. Overall Score: 22/80 Overall Rating: 1/10 - There's honestly not a single song on this album that I like. I found it very boring and I don't like the way he sings. It's like he's just talking. I definitely won't listen to this album again.

i hated it.... its too sad and long for me

Please stop taunting and antagonizing people through song

I can't. You give me Tom Waits one day and the next Leonard Cohen? No. Just no. 1 /5 because there's just too much Leonard Cohen on this list and I'm angry now.

LC sucks 1/5

If you've got something to say, just write it down. Don't put it over lousy guitar.

I hate Leonard Cohen

This is awful

Don’t get it

He's not a bad songwriter and plays guitar well but he can't sing. Every song was dirgy! The last one Joan of Arc was bearable but I'm not sure if that's because I'd made through the album!

um wow! i hate this! this is music i feel like hozier listens to but sorry i'm not hozier. and i love him too so idk where the disconnect is.... i was born in 2001! bite me!

All songs of hate for me. Utterly terrible.

It was so ..... booooring. The guy sang 3 notes for the entire album. "Great" melodies :/

#2 Where are the drums? Droning monotonous vocals. Interesting guitar.

Hate is certainly an apt descriptor. Love, not so much.

I hear that Leonard Cohen is an amazing lyricist but I can't tell because this is so fucking DREARY. And my favourite band is Radiohead for fuck's sake. I like dreary. This is just... I mean, is he lying down all the time? No energy whatsoever. It's actually making me depressed, and I already am so that's something. Fuck me, gonna have to turn it off NOW.

Don't like it, sounds weird.

"For me, these are all songs of hate. This is the 4th fucking album of his work and there is nothing enjoyable about anything Leonard Cohen. He's another poet who should not be allowed anywhere near musical instruments."

This guy should stick to poetry, because he can’t write a song worth a damn.

god this guy is just torture for me to listen to. just slow drudging crap

Yikes! Really bad

I like Cohen but not this one

The most depressed 45mins of my day.

Really sad and mopey, and for some songs the lyrics make no sense. A sloppy mess

Yawn…. Drama Queen.

i dont get this dude… his songs sound like a mono-tone miserable person who just picked up a guitar and hit record…

I hated this

Good God I need a beer after that one. Heard of Mr. Cohen but had no idea the man was so depressed. Figured I was in for some jaunty folk tunes but got a slow, somber Dylan for 45 mins. Leonard has some poetic lines and certainly gets deep about relationships on the album. Not a lot to his works, they just drivel on and all sound the same. Won't be listening to this again or going deeper...1.05.

I was only previously familiar with Leonard Cohen from his version of "Hallelujah" which has always immensely annoyed me. After hearing Songs Of Love And Hate I can see that this is not a one-off experience. This album was 45 minutes of slowly drawn-out uninteresting acoustical folk music for me. I'm sure it works for someone, maybe someone depressed, but that person is not me. I now can feel more secure when noping out in the future when Leonard Cohen makes the rotation as I am obviously not a fan. 0.83 stars

Dry and bland. I gave it an honest shot but I just couldn't manage to finish it.

The Canadian Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen Love & Hate pretentious as hell...FU! Black Sabbath Black Sabbath recorded at a time when when there were hardened and full. Recorded in a day and mixed the next. Even the album cover is organic. Then to be pissed on? Love that LP with all the clicks and pops, wow and flutter. David Bowie The Next Day recorded in secret and with talent. I was not aware of this album his 25th. "Valentines Day" & "Where Are We Now" stood out.

Sooooo, Hallelujah. Yeah, should have stopped with Hallelujah. That was …… painful

Sing goddamn it! But then again, it might be his voice, that's how much potential it got :( sigh

More like a bad Bob Dylan impression mixed with spoken word poetry than music. I know he's famous for Hallelujah and that's a much better showcase of his talents...this album makes calling him a "singer"/songwriter feel generous. Bland acoustic guitar chords as the accompaniment was extra rough. I hated this, and that made me pretty sad. Not a good album, no idea why it's on this list.

The Coen bros movie Inside Llewelyn Davis is about this a-hole folk singer who never gets a break cuz he’s just mediocre…..so…all folk singers? I hate Bob Dylan. This is worse than that. People were only sad this when this guy passed cuz he did the Shrek song. Mediocre lyrics packaged in the blandest wrapping. Ojai hippie bullshit again. & he sings about being sad there’s no mail??? Dickhead! No mail is the best! Like unwrapping a single Hershey kiss from the world’s 60th largest foil ball. Totally pointless and not worthy talking about. Oh and the Hershey kiss isn’t chocolate it’s a fucking dookie. Hated this so much.

If I could give it a zero I would. It straight up ruined my day with how terrible it was.

Boring.

This was bad slam poetry

Bod dylan but horrible

It's illegitimate to confess a liking to this drivel

#96 - this was painful, and unmusical.

Pure unadulterated dirge

I do not willingly want to put myself in a state of depression. How does this guy manage to produce such manic comatose dross

I really don’t vibe with this. He’s so whiny feeling.

fukin weird
