Reviews (page 8 of 9)
Another Aerosmith album. Sweet Jesus. Why on Earth are three Aerosmith albums on this list? Upon listening. I don't hate this as much as the other two Aerosmith albums I've had to endure. Although there were points (Big Ten Inch Record) that came close. It is still however, very much a bad album.
I like this better than their self titled but still only the one hit really. 10 inch record was funny but....idk there were some heavy sounds in here but I honestly just don't think I'm an Aerosmith fan really. I like the hits but the rest is take it or leave it
I did listen. It's a mediocre album if you didn't much care for the hits in the first place. I never did. The filler adds little. I wish those who worship this album well nonetheless.
I'd like to re-iterate how irritating I find Aerosmith. This is one of the better ones but it's still not really good.
I guess sometimes kinda good, 10 inch record is pretty insanely bad Will I listen to again: 1%
saved by walk this way and sweet emotion. nothin else to see
I was hoping for more than this, didn't really grab me tbh 😕
Tricky. Good in places but generic in the majority. I hate Walk this Way, and also Steven Tyler has done some questionable stuff... If you're interested in 70s dad rock, rest assured this list had a plethora of alternatives.
Mer tråkigt än outhärdligt, klar förbättring!
I still had Beggar’s banquet on this morning in the car so I listened to a few songs before switching over to Aerosmith. The comparison was not favourable to Steven Tyler and Aerosmith. It was fine overall. Sweet Emotion the highlight, a lot of the rest felt like a bad Stones impression. 2.5
This was somehow worse than I was expecting. At the very least, it moved fast enough.
Kinda boring, no songs that I would personally return to. May have been a unique experience at the time, but not now
First vinyl I ever owned. Doesn’t really hold up. Sweet emotion and dream have it..the rest don’t
The 2 singles are classics, the rest is kind of a throwaway. Definitely could have left off the Bull Moose Jackson cover as it adds absolutely nothing to the album, nor are they adding anything to the song..
Apart from Walk this Way, which let’s face it is better with RUN DMC, this just kind of washed over me. Not unpleasant but nothing really to make you sit up and take notice or want to play over again.
Sonically it's not bad, but lyrically it's pretty gross.
Oh jeez yes Walk This Way gives you two stars. But the rest of the album is so unreconstructed seventies rock it surely can only live on FM radio and shrivels and dies when removed from its natural habitat.
Sweet Emotion is pretty much a perfect song IMO, and some others are decent, but the rest of this is pretty middle of the road. Some great guitar playing, and if you pay no attention to lyrics, I can see why you'd rate it highly. But the lyrics are so creepy in places, especially knowing that Tyler was grooming a teenager just a few years prior to this. It's hard to argue for separation of art from the artist when you have a dude in his late 20s writing a song like Walk This Way, which features a sexy "young bleeder" high school cheerleader.
I wanted to like this as much as I love Walk This Way. I don't.
TITA is my second Aerosmith album from the list, and I have to again start by saying that I don't really like Aerosmith much at all. While I did like Rocks despite that, I can't say I enjoyed this one all that much. There were some good parts, but otherwise I found it unimpressive. To start with the good, Sweet Emotion is a great song. Everything about it just works. The music grooves, the vocals flow, and the way it sounds is just cool. The lyrics are the weakest part (more on that later), but they don't take away from it too much. I also liked Round and Round. Generally, there was some good guitar and bass work throughout the album. However, the bad stuck with me more. I don't really like Steven Tyler as a vocalist, which made it hard to appreciate many of the songs here. Even aside from his voice, the lyrics were off putting to me. He was 27 when this album came out, but many of the lyrics were more reminiscent of a 15-year-old's thoughts than an adult's. Aside from that, there were a few tracks I didn't find to be good or memorable. I must've zoned out during No More No More because I don't remember that one at all. Their cover of Big 10 Inch Record seemed out of place and an odd choice too, though I guess they get some credit for throwing in something different. I wouldn't really call this an actively bad album, but I wouldn't call it good and I didn't really enjoy it. It had too much of that douchey "I'm-a-rock-star"-ness I get from Aerosmith in place of actual heart and soul in the music. Outside of one or two songs, I don't see myself coming back to it. Those few songs that are good don't do enough to carry the record for me. As a whole, I'd call it fine at best. Overall: 2.4/5
1. Not what I expected vocally, because I've heard Steven Tyler voice growing up. Pass. 2. The Melody almost sounds like Shania Twains Feel Like a Woman, except this song is about an orphan girl that had to become a prostitute to survive and when she cried at night, no one gave a shit. Depressing. 3. I feel like he's blaming Eve for the fall of Eden. But I'm biased, so idk. Sounds kinda country fried rock. Feel like Kid Rock would listen to this. 4. Walk This Way. Iconic Song. Oh god the lyrics: "I met a cheerleader, she was a real young bleeder, oh the times I could reminisce, Cause the best things of lovin with her sister and her cousin". Idk if this was written when the boys where in high school. If not, this is now the creepiest song. Stay away from high school girls Steven! It is an iconic guitar riff though. Infantalizing up the wazoo though. 5. Swing Penis Song. Very blues. Raunchy. 6. Sweet Emotion. Didn't know this was their song tbh. Hooking up with (probably underage) groupies. 7. Being bored on the road type song. 8. "Sweet Sixteen". Very repetitive. 9. Please don't leave me ahh song/ballad. Vocals are more rasp than vocals at one point. Good brass section though. 4/10 Steven Tyler is a POS. Albums only on this list for the singles. Not my thing. Kinda creepy.
It’s whatever, Aerosmith has always been mid.
largely forgettable
Not enough honkin on bobo
While I like some of the music on this—particularly when horns are part of it—the utter inanity of Steven Tyler's vapid cock-rock is insufferable. "Big Ten Inch Record"? Gimme a break. "Sweet Emotion" is a classic, though I prefer the version of "Walk This Way" with Run-DMC. Aerosmith is a legendary band and all that, but no thanks.
Fuck Aerosmith and that pederast Steven Tyler. Sweet Emotion is cool, though.
stinks
mah
So much guitar...
5/10 Highlights: Walk This Way Sweet Emotion
Anyway. Snel naar de volgende? 5/10 Highlights Walk This Way
Boy they really pulled together every sound of this era, Sabbath, ZZ Top, Zepplin, it’s all in this album. The stuff unique to Aerosmith walk this way and sweet emotion, made it through. Everything else was pretty milquetoast. The irreverent “10 inch record” was unnecessary.
Uncle Salty sounds just like Man, I Feel Like a Woman! and I really love that for this album.
just some classic rock can’t rlly complain
Walk this way is in MY list of 1001 songs that make me want to blow my brains out
Running the whole range from tolerable to terrible, via a bit of unintentional pastiche.
3.5/10 I think this project is teaching me that a certain brand of American blusey hard rock is not for me. This album was quite poor. Pretty dead musically, which is why I’m surprised it is viewed as a classic album. The main thing it has going for it is an obviously charismatic frontman. Some embarrassing lyrical moments. Big Ten Inch Record is woeful. Best: Sweet Emotion
Bit naff really. Bonus star for walk this way with Run DMC
Sweet Emotion is decent; Walk This Way is fine, but the Run-DMC collab is better; the rest is clichéd tosh.
Musically a few interesting moments, a lot of boring ones. Lyrically this is disgusting, I hate cock rock. These guys are disgusting and if it was released today they would be, as the kids say, cancelled. Will never listen to again.
Sounds like a lesser, commercially friendly version of their peers
2 sterne
Tweaking my rating scale a bit. Realized I was centering the 1-5 on 3 being ok/indifferent but I generally skew more positive on average so all my ratings were really 3-5. I was mostly indifferent to this album. Walk This Way is overplayed and was never a favorite to begin with. I do actually like Sweet Emotion a lot and is definitely my highlight of the album. Big Ten Inch Record is cringe. Rest of the album is forgettable.
I’m giving this two stars because I liked it slightly more than that Taylor Swift album
Pretty meh album overall. Joe Perry's lead guitar shines in a couple moments but mostly this is a pretty paint-by-numbers rock album. There were a lot of really good albums released in 1975 and IMO you'd be out of your mind to be spending too much of your time on this one. I hope you find someone that loves you as much as Steven Tyler loves sex with minors.
HELLO ST. LOUIS!! I’ve read a few of my recent reviews back and the cognitive decline is on full display. Just riddled with half finished thoughts and typos that render a previously difficult read completely unconquerable. Whatever. Abject failure set aside (for now), we gaze towards former drugged up rock act and current haunted leather puppets, Aerosmith. Will their attic be filled with half-alive horrors of a realm unbeknownst to humankind? Or will it be one of those attics where there are just dead pigeons and the occasional vole? Only the press of the triangular play will answer these queries. Join me in the proverbial voyage to the centre of boomer-dom. Toya in the Attic - Pretty straightforward rock song, kicked off with some energy. Didn’t hate it. Uncle Salty - Almost wrote “Uncle Slay.” Sometimes the indiscriminate dropping of my missle-esque ham fingers onto this digital keyboard like so many Geneva convention violations, produces some real magic. Like Uncle Slay. Werk Queen. This song is boring. Adam’s Apple - I have to say this hasn’t been what I expected so far. The vocals are far more subdued and the riffs are cooler than I could’ve imagined. I had low expectations. However, this is the big band, diner jukebox shit moment that every old rock album seems to have. Pass. Walk This Way - Where is Run DMC??? Count me out. No, I am fully aware that this was an Aerosmith song well before the heavyweight crossover between those two later on in musical history. This is a great song. At least when it discusses high school girls, the narrator is also high school aged. Is that so hard?? Great bass and fantastic guitar riff. A true highlight. Big Ten Inch Record - How can ten inches be big? Aren’t records normally 12? So this is a below average record? Hmm. Over exaggerating size and doing 50’s diner rock without a sense of humour. And yes, I’m aware of the pun. I firmly stand behind my accusation of being humourless. Sweet Emotion - The song that launches a thousand transphobic Facebook comments every morning. The song that rips over the Bose sound system as that F250 engine roars to life in its suburban garage. I can’t hate the song, but it just sounds wrong without the crackle of the radio and the annoying voice of the DJ announcing that rush hour has indeed started again, as it does every day. Give the boomers their props on this song. It’s not too bad. No More No More - We need a ballad. Bring it home. Oh wait no, it’s a dancing on the bar Grease outtake featuring lines like “Jailbait, stalemate, ladies can’t refuse.” Snore. Round and Round - Oh I kept thinking this would be the start song. Holy hell, this is verging on a Black Sabbath riff. I don’t say that lightly. Missing all of the sinister feeling, but that is an excellent guitar sequence. Yeah this is the best song so far. Heavy as hell. You See Me Crying - Man, you see ME crying? Was this an attempted hit? Terrible way to close this thing out. Meat, meet potatoes. This is as barebones and basic as it gets for a rock album. The performances are fine to good. The songs offer a little more as they range from outdated garbage to excellent. Like a raccoon, I continue to sift through dumpsters in search of the delectable morsels, known as good music. They sustain me. This was more discarded batteries and dog shit than say, say-old donuts, but you can’t blame the poor fellas. This is your perfect C grade album. Sits right in the middle of my scale. Moments of enjoyment, a few dearths of musical destitution and numerous trips to the 50’s revival café, leave me sitting firmly on the fence. Don’t do drugs and clean out that damn attic, would ya? 2.5 HIGHLIGHTS: Walk This Way, Sweet Emotion, Round and Round
"Walk This Way" is decent. Not top tier, but decent. The rest is background music. 2,5/5
I was introduced to Aerosmith by Run DMC and the wildly popular "Walk this Way" video. I used to play that song on a jukebox where my Mom worked. My next experience with the band was 2 or 3 years later when they put out Permanent Vacation. They then became a very prominent MTV band before becoming a caricature of an MTV band. This is ok. "Pump" is a lot better. 2/5
Walk This Way, yes. Sweet Emotion, all right. Otherwise they're still in the Rolling Stone Clone era. They're too serious and not as playful as they are later.
Ugh. Despite 2 really good songs, the rest of the album is pretty "meh". Just bland 70s rock. Middle of the road. Do yourself a favor. Give this one the 2-3 stars it deserves, and listen to a better album from 1975, I'll list a few below that I'd gladly take: - Wish You Were Here - Theres No Place Like America Today - Red Headed Stranger - Physical Graffiti - A Night at the Opera - Mothership Connection - Born to Run
80’s MTV Aerosmith made me hate Aerosmith and never go back to listen to their classics, other than when forced to on the classic rock channels or in movies. Sweet Emotion is a great song. The rest of it is just as bad as 80s MTV Aerosmith. 2.5
1,5
I am usually pretty indifferent about Aerosmith, but man this album is kinda bad. I thought people used to swear this album was great. The 2 hits are good, but they've become so overplayed that I don't really care about them anymore and they can't hold up the album by themselves. Every song here that isn't a single is incredibly lame and some of the worst songs by Aerosmith I've ever heard. Atleast this album is short. High 2.
I wonder if the toys in the attic are for Steven Tyler’s girlfriends… 2/5
There were aspects of songs I liked, but overall, not a fan.
Bland and boring. The only thing of interest is how many times better Run DMC make Walk this Way
Naaaah I don't dig this, no Run DMC, Steven Tyler voice a bit sedate... its like a different band...on snooze
2 great songs on this album. The rest was pretty forgettable.
10 inch what now, who sucks on vinyl? Oh Oreosmith do. 2 half decent tracks maybe? The rest is pretty poor. Boring stuff for me.
It was okay
I never liked the even back in the 70 s, too much screaming
Really really mid. Did nothing for me, some fun riffs prevent it from being a 1.
'Walk This Way' is the only good thing here, cool guitars and drums. The version with Run DMC is so much better though. I'll never listen to this again, not my thing!
“Walk This Way” acts as a microcosm for how this whole album plays out: It’s alright, but could really do with some Run DMC. 🤣 This was a weird one, I thought Aerosmith were big and powerful and dramatic but this didn’t really feel that way. Insteresting side note: Toys In The Attic riff is super similar to Bombtrack’s intro.
Ugh
Well that didn't leave *any* impression. General unattractive. Dull music, I should say...Rock 'n 'roll according to the industrial mold. There once was a time that people love this type of music but it's long gone, and I'm happy that phase is nowhere near repeating. A general 2~2.5/5
Wow this was not good. Sweet emotion is a great tune but the rest of this is boring. I can see why the rerecorded Walk this Way ..
not arsed by this. Didn't Kurt Cobain list this as one of his favourite albums? Maybe i'm missing something
I am not an Aerosmith fan. I have heard them all my life, and there was a time when I may have liked "Dream On," but that was even overplayed. However, especially once Tyler's voice changed in to that shrill scream, and they became an 80's radio rock version of themselves, I can no longer really appreciate them, based on my tastes. The lyrics are also mostly questionable... "Big Ten Inch Record" There are some good, classic rock songs on this album like "Round and Round," but songs like "Sweet Emotion" and "Walk This Way" were radio hits but feel trivial and goofy at this point in time. I just think there are greater rock bands and records out there if you're not into what became hair metal and radio rock.
Yeah, like it's solid. Nothing that really breaks new ground for me, but there's some strong hits on here. Steven Tyler's voice is pretty awesome will not lie. Walk this way... classic. Makes me want to own leather pants. Does lose steam for me in the latter half of the album, the effect wears off and becomes grating rather than exhilarating for me. Album finisher was especially exhausting for me, I was mentally begging for it to end. 2.5/5
not that good but it’s not to the point where it’s unbearable
Steven Tylers story and the lyrics on some of these leave a bad taste in my mouth, musically not that great either especially with everything else that was being released in the mid 70s i really dont see why you would listen to them x
I went into this expecting some run-of-the-mill dad rock—let’s see what I actually got. To my surprise, this album leans heavily into a glam rock vibe rather than the heavier sound I anticipated. And honestly? I loved the campy, over-the-top energy it brought. Favorite Song: Walk This Way is an absolute classic—such a fun, infectious pop-rock anthem! Sweet Emotion stood out too, bringing a different kind of vibe that I really enjoyed. Least Favorite: A lot of the tracks felt pretty forgettable—nothing terrible, just a bit meh. Album Artwork: The cover? Absolutely awesome.
Walk this Way & Sweet Emotion are pretty good. The rest is very much forgettable.
Aerosmith has no soul. This hits all the elements of a great rock n roll record but somehow still feels empty and devoid of personality and swagger. An empty silk scarf of a record.
L’écriture des chansons est vraiment pas folle, très répétitive, ça ne sonne pas très bien, rien de bien emballant. C’est souvent du sous Led Zeppelin. Je connaissais “Toys in the attic” par la reprise de REM, évidemment “Walk this way” même si ça n’a jamais été ma came, et ça finit avec “You See Me Crying”, proto “Cryin’” cheesy à souhait.
I want to burn big ten inch record from my memory
Nope
As is mostly the pattern so far, couple of good tunes, but not a great album.
Wanted to enjoy this as they have some seriously good tunes but sadly 'Walk This Way' and 'Sweet Emotion' were the only highlights for me
Sweet emotion is a classic, walk this way needs run dmc (I'm sick of that song anyway), big 10 inch record was kinda fun. All it does is add substance to my point that Aerosmith are a greatest hits band. Bland
Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion are classics, and I like them because of fond memories with a friend, plus they are good songs. Big Ten Inch Record was like the song version of an unsolicited dick pic. The rest of the album was...okay. I'm not a fan.
Not really a fan of aerosmith 2.5
This is more interesting than I thought it would be going in but still not great.
Realizing how much respect I have for Led Zeppelin being precious about their licensing while listening to this 😂 Sweet Emotion is the only bright spot
Fine but forgettable. Sweet Emotion still rips tho
“No More No More” is right
meh
Generic hard Rock.
I didn't hate this quite as much as I expected to, but I really don't like Tyler's voice, and he's a creep. Big Ten Inch Record was egregiously bad.
Still not an Aerosmith fan. I just can't get into their music.
Aerosmith's next album after this one, Rocks, has come up for me here already and I gave that one 3 stars. I think having a second Aerosmith album from the same time period come up in close proximity here has given me some Aerosmith fatigue, or maybe I rated Rocks too highly to begin with. I'm dropping to a 2 for Toys in the Attic. Unlike Rocks, I do recognize a couple of these songs ("Walk This Way" and "Sweet Emotion," of course) and they are alright, but the rest was uninteresting and unmemorable 70s rock. Should also assign some blame to "Big Ten Inch Record" (which I'm surprised to learn is a cover).
Still think Steven Tyler has a really good voice - surprisingly light and dynamic. Walk This Way is decent, I have no preference over this version versus the one with Run DMC - I wonder how different that would be from a theoretical version with Afrika Bambaata - however the rest of the album passed me by. Not as good as Pump.
Never really liked aerosmith, but not sure why. This did nothing to dissuade me. Never heard this version of walk this way without run DMC in. They massively improve it. Big ten inch record was awful Won't be back and hope there is no more on the list but I suspect there will be Think this was the worse of the 3 albums we've had so far 1.5
Have I mentioned I don't like Aerosmith? This album did not change my mind. Not for me. Rating: 2
I've heard this 1001 times. No need for anymore.
Happy to stick to the singles, thanks. I do genuinely like Sweet Emotion. Not much more to say about it. 2.5
this is really boring but i can see it really blowing some minds in 1975
A little bland. Few gems are the singles, none hidden. No surprises.
nuh uh toys in the attic- 4 uncle salty- 3 adams apple- 3 walk this way- 3 big ten inch record- 4 or 5 sweet emotion- oh. 4 no more no more- how i feel about this album. 3 round and round- 2 you see me crying- 2
I have another Aerosmith album in the queue that I couldn't be arsed to listen to and review yet and let out a groan when this popped up. Justified. It's not entirely terrible, they have a hand for... whatever that is, musically, sonically in the beginning of Sweet Emotion and I sometimes seem to hear what will eventually become "Appetite for Destruction" 12 years later but I see no reason to ever put this on again. And, skipping back into some of these songs now, just to make sure, I begin to question my previous assessment.
Unremarkable aside from "Sweet Emotion"
не очень 4/10
Very dated sounding album
Pretty disappointed by this one. Not a lot stood out and it felt kinda lazy. I liked Uncle Salty, Walk This Way, and Round and Round.
I found this one to be bland. And I’m not usually one to complain about lyrics, but some of these are just gross. Glad this one was pretty short. I mean, Walk This Way is a good song, but the Run DMC version is better.
Moment of silence please for all the bros that sprained their wrists air guitaring to this over the years.
I’ve never really cared for Aerosmith’s brand of raunchy blues/hard rock. Everything they’ve done has been done better by the Stones and Zeppelin. I don’t really care for Steven Tyler as a front man and vocalist. But the Bass and Guitar are excellent here, and their riffs and fills drive this to be a listenable record. But overall, this is mostly forgettable for me other than the hit songs and an extra decent track or two.
Out of pure nostalgia, I'll give this 2 stars. Sweet Emotion became a favorite of mine at 14 after watching Dazed and Confused for the first time. Most other tracks here are essentially drunk dad garage night tunes that neither he, nor I will remember in the morning. I'd give 3 stars if Steven Tyler hadn't adopted a 16 year old groupie so he could sleep with her.
Yuuus
It's fine, just generic and unmemorable
Ni fú ni fá.
sweet emotion and a few other are great but walk this way sucks ass
# Playlist track - Walk This Way # Notes - Interesting. I've listened a lot to late 80's Aerosmith, but never this one. - Update: I'm so disappointed. - The best track is "Walk this Way", but it's not as good as the version with Run DMC. - It's a pretty uninspired Album. No horrible tracks, but zero great ones either. - Only recommend to folks who already like Aerosmith and are interested in learning more where they came from.
Mest megnis overrated dót. Fylgir líka alltaf hár krípfaktor.
nah 3/10
Not an Aerosmith fan, but it was solid. As far as 70’s rock goes, I tend to look elsewhere.
Stevie's still giving me the creeps man
The original Walk This Way really has no juice compared to the Run-DMC version, huh. Why is this here?
Meh. It's Aerosmith. It's okay.
imagine releasing this entire album when you could have just dropped sweet emotion
felt like a real girl dad when i was blasting this while doing an arts and crafts project tbh. sweet emotion SLAPS, like that must've been in the guitar hero game for SURE
this was pretty good but getting walk this way and it not being the run dmc version is like if someone told you they got you ice cream and then they come home and it was just vanilla with nothing on it
i know some songs! doesn't mean i liked it that much lmfaooo. it was okay!!
Best album of their catalog but still detest this band - lead singer.
I swear years go by without me remembering Aerosmith exists. The two big singles on here are fun, the rest goes right through my ears and out the other side. Nearly turned it off at that "ten inch" song, rock in it's worst form.
Mid rock
Fín klassísk lög eins og Walk This way og Sweet emotion en þetta fer ekki í rotation hjá mér
not impressed
Aerosmith had a good run in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. I got to experience the hype towards the end of their heyday in the early 90s when I was a kid. I don’t want to discredit them too much, but I think their time came and went. Even going back and listening to these songs, it just doesn’t have the mojo anymore like it once did.
Yeah. What? I don't even remember anything and I just finished the album. Like it's not bad, it's just not good either
Can’t even
Toys In The Attic does nothing for me. I had never listened to the full album. I have always and will always think of Aerosmith as a 80/90s band. The 70s version is so weird to me, Steve Tyler’s voice changed so much 4.7/10
A very lame album. If it weren't for Walk This Way it wouldn't be on this list.
I'm not a great Aerosmith fan. Did listen. Didnt think it was heavy rock. Meh
Find it really hard to care about this music. I guess I just don't like American rock music that's sold like a cynical product, or something. Not bad, just a chore to get through.
Aerosmith is very much a "big hits" artist for me, and this album reinforces that for me. Besides Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion, which are probably the two biggest hits here, nothing caught my ear. It's not dad rock I grew up with so it has a high wall to clear.
non mi convince, suono troppo anni 80 rock classico al quale non si può dire moltissimo ma non trovo quella cosa in piu che mi fa dire wow. avrò ascotato troppo del futuro? bisogna contestualizzare credo
American tosswads trying and failing to emulate the Stones and/or the Zep. Just one half decent hook on the whole album of overproduced questionable cock rock. So many better options, even a couple of them are actually American - Skynyrd or CCR The last track is all you need to listen to - rock as a show tune with strings. Mick and Keef would never have stooped so low
“Walk This Way” and “Sweet Emotion” are great. But the rest of this album is disjointed and, in parts, completely unlistenable. Stick with the two hits and ditch the rest. 2/5
Meh. Subpar generic Hard Rock from the 70s.
The buttiest of butt rock. Glad I don't have to listen to that again.
This is sort of boring. It reminds me of the rock music from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. "Walk This Way" is a great song but the version with Run DMC is better. The Aerosmith parts seem more energetic. Here it seems rather lethargic by comparison. Generally this seemed rather pedestrian, rather average, rock music to me. I do like Aeros though and respect any maker or smith of them.
Urgh, this was fairly repellant. On the plus side I can see how this could be considered building on the stones in terms of guitar sound. But this is so puerile and vacuous. Walk this way is much better with RUN DMC and the other supposed stand out track wasn't great.
Sista sången daskade o solot gick hårt. Resten? Eh
if they had made this album at 15 all the problems would’ve been excusable… the pubescent attempt at rock music, his 16 year old victim, the “10 inch” double entendre. alas, they were grown men and this is terrible.
Has some decent songs on here. Enjoyed some of the more bluesy numbers. 2.5/5 Probably won’t listen again
I'd always heard 70s Aerosmith described as "a hornier, American version of the Rolling Stones". Imagine my shock when, opening cut "Toys In The Attic" aside, this album was extremely tepid and boring. It made for fine background, but I can't fathom listening to this outside of the hits for fun.
Outside of Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion, there's not much to really see here. It's decent at what it does, but there were so many other records (in 1975 alone) that did what this does but much better.
Otherwise seems like a nice classic rock record, but Big ten inch record is a disgusting and awful song. 2/5
American accesible rock
Nah pretty boring overall. Just the hits.
In music, I find there are often two types of horny. Good, positive, love horny, and bad, gross, pervy horny. Unsurprisingly, this band is always putting out the latter. Genuinely middle school level, just not a fan of the vibe.
This is as generic as you can get for what many would call "classic rock," and while usually that would stand to mean inoffensive, I do find this album grates on you as time goes on. To be fair, I have a negative Aerosmith bias, so I already wasn't looking forward to it, but so many lyrics here are that creepy, cheesy, and sleazy suaveness that makes my skin crawl, and while vocally the album is competent, it still isn't anything groundbreaking. The only saving grace for me is the instrumentation, which is extremely solid, and leaves to some really catchy moments, were Steven Tyler not squealing over them. It isn't a bad album, but it feels just safe enough to be disingenuous, and songs like Big Ten Inch Record don't help that claim. Oh well, its fine, I guess.
Like Junk Food, all heavy glam rock is occasionally fun in small doses, a guilty pleasure. When browsing, I tend to skip these guys and the whole Bogan Music pile (its musical junk food or the bourbon of dark drinks, along with Motley Crue etc.) To quote another reviewer here; (if I am judging an album by its cover) I'd agree with the following. " If it's 1975 and you want a rock album but you're too much of a fuckin' JOCK to listen to Physical Graffiti, Blood on the Tracks, Wish You Were Here, Born To Run, Horses, Young Americans, Fleetwood Mac, Another Green World, Mothership Connection, or Face the Music, this is the album for you and the boys as you cruise around town in a less interesting version of Dazed and Confused." This is commercial, catchy, showman music. "walk this way" being proof they made a deal with the devil to get the recipe for catchy. yes its fun. I hate them for that. Some ok singles for when I am in the mood for Massive Glamourous Hollywood Soundtrack Rock. Its still mostly Junk food. and for thta ACDC is better
Two good songs, everything else is meh at best.
Not bad, but I'd probably enjoy this more if Steven Tyler wasn't a pedo. Alas, he is and the sleazy lyrics do not come off well.
Felt like the album didn't flow well. Some songs sounded like a different band and couldn't get into it. There are some known hits but just didn't enjoy listening straight through.
not bad, aber kein aerosmith fan
Dad rock
No
My parents really liked Aerosmith, I did not. The guitar on this album is pretty cool. Steven Tyler is a fucked dude.
Yeah, not for me. Even the songs which were singles sounded boring blended with this album
Couple of decent riffs but not much more
It was alright
Some albums on this list have just made me want to listen to the bands who do it better. Slayer made me want to listen to Metallica. This makes me want to listen to Led Zepp.
probably would have rated this a 3 if i didn’t have the misfortune of hearing steven tyler sing about his big ten inch “record” also, funny that i should get this album today since i watched the new run dmc docuseries last night. Walk This Way doesn’t sound them same without them.
Not my vibe.
Good background rock album. I wanted to like it more than i did, just found it a bit soft? Listened to it all day, still not convinced!
Aerosmith in not a favorite but this older one is ok.
Not really my thing. It's like Spinal Tap with better music, but just as shitty lyrics.
Classic rock is just not for me. There are a few good hits on here though.
My patience is really being tested this week with mediocre music. We’re all lucky I’m almost halfway through and can’t give up now! Nope, never needed to listen to an entire Aerosmith album.
Very repetitive album that hasn't quite got enough catchy tunes. However, from Walk This Way to Sweet Emotion is a pretty good 3 song run. I had no idea they had a cover of 10inch Record of the band.
Some good songs for a band still trying to find their feet. Unfortunately not for me.
Meh
Just barely saved from one star by Sweet Emotion, a genuinely good song. All the rest made me grit my teeth in regret.
Okay
not for me - got sick of it quite quickly
Nope, not for me. I thought it would be more fun and exciting, but i found it really daggy. Reminded me of those bands made up of old retired guys who play at the local RSL.
Hard to find much to love after Walk This Way
Sweet Emotion is all I need from this band. Fine, sure. They are a solid/great bar band. Just can't stand Steve Tyler's voice and delivery and I already own the good Rolling Stones records so I fail to see the point. 2.5
Sweet Emotion and Walk this way only good songs
despite the fact that i consider myself to have inherited a lot of my father’s music taste (who loves this album, by the way) i’ve never really been a huge fan of aerosmith. this was OK. would give it 2.5 stars if i could.
The music here is quite impressive. The songs sound great, and there are two all-timers on this (Walk This Way, Sweet Emotion). At all times, though, it is very present just how dumb the members of this band are. Big Ten Inch Record is emblematic of the entire vibe: so stupid, sounds really good, dumb as hell.
I couldn’t like this no matter how hard I tried. Some of the more blues-y sounding songs were okay. It’s just not my jam.
Meh not the best Aerosmith
God, if you’re listening, please give me something from the 21st century man. This should be a Lady Gaga album
Almost exactly what I expected from Aerosmith, not necessarily my jam
Stop giving me Aerosmith. But for the final song this is dross.
I was never a giant Aerosmith fan but this album has a lot of their greatest hits on it and there are some great hits by them.. 'Walk This Way', 'Sweet Emotion', 'Round and Round' and 'You See Me Crying' are great songs. I can't say I love Aerosmith but I did like a lot of these songs. Overall: 2.6/5
This is the best Aerosmith would ever be, and it's bland and pedestrian. Sweet Emotion is the only thing preventing one star here.
Bluesy 70s radio play rock with some somewhat neat (and very sophomoric) lyrics and some bluesy guitar riffs. Feels like the whole album is B-sides though. 2.5/5
Nej detta var ganska trist.
Trodde walk this way var bättre.
Simpelt. #8 ok #9 nej Totalt ganska platt. Bitvis rätt B. Två bra låtar.
Gear: DCA ÆON 2 Noire Mische: shouty, kickt nich so, Hörner sind netter Touch Mugge: im ersten Durchlauf nicht sonderlich beeindruckend (Ausnahme "Walk this Way" und "Sweet Emotion") Wertung: 2/5
Not my usual kind of music but listen the whole album Walk This Way is a good track (probaly just from RunDMC familiarity) but gets too guitary towards the end Big Ten Inch is a surprising different style. Like the instrumental but not the lyrics. It wasn't as heavy as I was expecting but really not my thing. Generally didn't get anything from the album.
This doesn't even being to hint at the sleazy powerhouse Aerosmith was to become in the 80s and 90s
Standard AOR. File under nothing special.
2/5
#39. There's a reason you've only heard Sweet Emotion and Walk This Way. Most songs would be better as an instrumental. Steven Tyler is cheesy in a way I find tiresome, except for when he's being outright creepy. Why are so many of his lyrics about banging children? 2/5: meh
Aerosmith are a weird band. Sweet Emotion is great, though.
Aerosmith carried the torch of horny, bluesy rock from Led Zeppelin. Sweet Emotion is pretty great.
These lyrics fuckin suck
2/5
I don't get why this album is here.
Eh, it was fine. 2/5
With Toys In The Attic I thought I might be wrong about this album (not about Aerosmith in general though). But I wasn't. Thank god Run DMC managed to improve Walk This Way!. The best song on the album is Aerosmith's cover of Bull Moose Jackson's Big Ten Inch. As for ending with a hard rock band style ballad? Ugh.
okayish, no repeat
Fun rock music but not my cup of tea. Probably won't listen to it again.
classic. Good time blues. Great production and arrangement. A little to much so. Vocals a little buried Enjoyed this one better on my second listen Standout tracks for me Uncle Salty Round and Round
Instrumentals and vocals are great, but everything else I don’t much care for. Only really two tracks popped out for me; nothing really else did. 4/10
Meh
Sub par 70s rock
I can't get excited about Aerosmith at all, but I don't have any real complaints. I could probably copy and paste my thoughts on Motorhead
Based on my late 80s perception of Aerosmith I was surprised by the variety of styles here. I don't like the song Big Ten Inch Record, but have to admit its not what I was expecting. Have also been educated by how old Walk This Way is. Standouts for me are Sweet Emotion and You See Me Crying
Ugh, slogging through this album was difficult...even Walk This Way was annoying. Only song that stand out is Sweet Emotion, by a mile the best song, perhaps the only enjoyable song on this album
Highlights - Sweet Emotion, Round and Round Didn't enjoy this album for the most part. Sweet Emotion is a banger though. The album, overall, had much more of a blues vibe than I expected. 2/5
Интересный факт: лирический герой песни Walk this Way - сорокалетний мужик 4/10
2/5. Like yeah this is definitely a high tier rock album but is it actually fun to listen to? A little? The hits are good but they wear down over time. Honestly the last two songs on the album slap but there are a few to get through to get there. The album doesn't hit the spots for me but I appreciate the quality of songwriting.
BL: Aerosmith is a band I don’t have very high thoughts of. Besides walk this way the only things I know about them is everything the lead singer has done. Putting that aside for an objective review I’ll see how this plays out AL: this was a very mixed bag. I found the first half to be very derivative and uninspired, at some points like “Adam and Eve” straight up insulting, but the second half had some good stuff on it. The problem with this record is that it’s mostly derivative rock music that’s pretty cookie cutter, the most famous track has a much better version with Run-DMC on it and nothing else other than sweet emotion stands out to general audiences. So I’m not really sure why this album made the list. The final closing thought would be: just a generic rock album. FT: “sweet emotion”, “no more no more” 2/5
meh
Instant teleurstelling op de maandagochtend; alleen de Aerosmith only versie van Walk This Way. Pfff... Favo: Sweet Emotion, Toys in the attic
Favorieten: Walk This Way
bästa låten är medioker
I think Aerosmith might be the most perfect example of bland classic rock purely meant for the background, and nothing else. Absolutely nothing stands out, nor is anything here worth remotely focusing on. But it is just agreeable enough to be the faint soundtrack to a summertime barbeque
I'm enjoyed the guitar riffs and I've heard a few of the songs a thousand times. It's weird hearing them in the context of an album. They feel out of place. Also, almost every song is about sex. The last song is a ballad and it's weird. Tyler sounds like a dying rat in parts of the song. This album is not for me. I can maybe see why people enjoyed it almost 50 years ago but I just don't get much out of it.
"Camel Cigarettes: The Album" Sweet Emotion is Aerosmith's only good song.
I just don’t like this band. It’s generic blues rock at best. It’s a mediocre bar band. The only reason this is not a one star album to me is because Sweet Emption is a good song and even that, I am not sure if I really like it, or just have good associations with its use in Dazed and Confused.
Less awful than I feared. Expected same macho guitar shit as the average metal is too me, but this is slightly better. His voice, well you either like it or find it exagerrated, I am of last school. So not 1 but 2 stars.
The best thing to be said about it is its nowhere near as heinous as Pump. Some genuinely fun riffs to be found and most songs are mercifully short. Still gross and mostly sucks though. Fave track: Round and Round
Nope
Aerosmith is lame.
wholly uninteresting. only a 2 because it’s not bad enough for a 1, which is honestly worse than a 1
Not a fan
This definitely reminds me of playing guitar hero with my brother as a kid. Only really care for a few of the songs though.
Feels more boogy woogy rock n roll than rock.
In the 1001 book, the reviewer points out that this is "cock rock" which I didn't realize was an actual genre. I think that sums up what I don't like about this - it's aggressive, in your face, showy. I like "Walk This Way" (though I prefer the Run DMC version) and "Sweet Emotion", the rest of it I will pass on.
"Walk This Way" isn't quite as fun without Run DMC. Being more familiar with their 80s/90s material, I didn't realize how influenced by Led Zeppelin they were.
If someone was to ask me "show me a song that shows exactly what you don't like in music", I would play them the opening riff in Toys in the Attic. By the time 'Big Ten Inch Record' played i was hoping it was possible to give the album a zero. However, it does pick up with Sweet Emotion, which is maybe my favourite Aerosmith song. No More No More & Round and Round are decent too. Before listening to this I would have said i liked Aeromsith, but if this is supposed to be one of their better albums, maybe i don't. Between a high 1 and scrapping a 2. Sweet Emotion takes it up a notch to a 2
I do not like Aerosmith. This album was meh.
It wasn’t as bad as I expected but I was still saying No More No More by the end of it. Aerosmith isn’t my jam. Their hits are overplayed on the radio and their non-hits aren’t good. Maybe I’m just a little (Uncle) Salty
Meh
Not my vibe.
I often forget, and with quite frequency, how greasy Aerosmith actually is. Like don't they have that rollercoaster at Disney? Did I like hallucinate that? I guess this kind of music is for some people, but not really for me. It has edge, sure, but not edge that comes across as meaningful or interesting in a way. Edge like cardboard grease stains leftover from a pizza, I guess. The only thing saving this from the dreaded single star is that I do like the arrangements when divorced from the lyrics and that Walk This Way is regrettably a banger (even if it is the inferior version)
Osittain ihmeellistä paahtoa, osittain perinteisempää renkutusta. Walk This Way jää soimaan päähän, ei siinä mitään, mutta osa materiaalista kuulostaa siltä, kuin se olisi sävelletty juuri siksi, ETTEI se jäisi. Tylerin vokaalit myös ns. "acquired taste".
This all seems a bit limited and expressionless.
Too American for me
Noise In The Attic. Warum, wofür und weswegen sollte man ausgerechnet diese Platte vor seinem Ableben gehört haben? Für Walk This Way? Oh bitte…
Impressively boring. Shouldn't really be on this list. Even "Walk This Way", the best track, has a better version elsewhere.
4/10
I can see how this would've been a fun album when it first came out. Unfortunately, it hasn't aged very well.
Definitely better during the songs with tight grooves and riffs like walk this way. Steven Tyler’s lyrics and singing just ruins a lot of it for me. It just felt like having a boomer Rock station on the entire time and maybe it was cool to be the first to this sound but I’ve heard done by too many 40 year old cover bands in ocean city. 👍: walk this way (too bad run dmc wasn’t on it), toys in the attic, sweet emotion
Nothing for me here
highly unremarkable. i really despise this genre
It should be illegal how horny some albums are
Not a bad album. Of course know the band and some off of this album, have never been the biggest Aerosmith fan but not a bad listen through!
Maybe I'm just uncomfortable with the recent news around Steven Tyler, but I didn't think this was a particularly great album. Sweet Emotion is the only very strong song in my opinion.
The official album of Nascar tailgate parties. This might be a hot take, but I think this is almost as trashy as kid rock.
Was this released before or after Steven Tyler adopted a teenage groupie so he could take her across state lines? Usually try to listen to these without taking into account gross details about personal lives but that story is so notorious I can’t help it. Musically, it’s not my jam but also not something I’d actively avoid. Meh whatever.
can't take Aerosmith
Nothing about this album, made me care about Aerosmith any more than I already did, which was not a lot. Just reminded me that I really liked the version of Walk This Way by Run DMC.
I haven’t done any investigation into this, but it sounded like someone besides, Steven. Tyler was singing lead on some of the songs. Besides the two hits from this record, I liked the song Uncle Salty. The rest sounded like a band finding its sound. The song big 10 inch record was a little too tongue-in-cheek.
apart from sweet emotion it's pretty shite. 2
I used to not think much of Aerosmith, but I dislike them more and more over time. This album has been in my album backlog on here for a while, so I listened to Pump first, which was just... overall not very good... I'd say Aerosmith can make decent music, as they have a lot of iconic guitar riffs and such, but as someone that kind of pays attention to lyrics, a lot of the times they're gross, which just makes me see the band and their music as sleazy. I know, I'm a prude, but I don't want to listen to song after song about how Steven Tyler fucks. I'm sure there's songs about things other than sex, but it really doesn't feel like it. That being said, Tyler's voice was better on this than on Pump, so I guess that was good. Well, maybe not so much on the higher parts of the last track, where he sounds like a dying cat, but generally it's alright. The guitar was good, and served as a highlight of the album. Some of the songs went on too long and began to bore me, which isn't uncommon for Aerosmith songs to do. The album is definitely better than Pump was, but I still don't really care. My favourite song was Adam's Apple, I guess. I don't know.
Not much to get excited about here.
For this era of rock, it was ok. Though -1* for the abomination that is my big 10" record.
I did groan when I saw it was Aerosmith. Perhaps unfairly. Because after giving it a chance, I concede it has a few moments. The hits are good. No More No More is a rocker if you don’t listen to the lyrics. Their roller coaster at Disney World is fun.
That was a tough old listen. And next up, some sh!te from Beastie Boys. On a poor run here....
Walk this way är ju en klassiker. I övrigt var det inte särskilt bra.
čak mi je i fora album cover, ali ono ko o ni, zna se šta mislim o njima. al imaju walk this way i sweet emotion na albumu, pa ono...nije baš dvica zbog toga, ali...
Hm, this is making me decide I don't really like Aerosmith. I like Walk This Way because it's a cool fun song but the rest is so bleh, boring, inconsequential and I don't like the lyrics they're annoying even if they're tongue in cheek.
Another aerosmith so soon was a surprise! I mean it's a bit of fun really isn't it but it's not something I'll ever jump to look back on or have any particular nostalgia about (like other similar era/genre bands). Its a bit cringe but is hopefully not taking itself too seriously
A couple of tracks you'd probably know as growing up somewhere in North American and sometime between the record's release and whenever they became so unfashionable that not even the dads want to hear it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The record struck me as heavier than expected although it's not really heavy once you venture outside of pop music. Sexual politics are a bit cringe, of course. Overall, not my thing but I've heard worse.
'Walk This Way' and 'Sweet Emotion' are way too good of tracks to be buried under the rest of the boring, overlong, and at worst creepy shit that makes up the rest of this album.
If a steven Tyler is screaming in the forest and no one is there to hear it does it make a sound? Fans say yes
Just don’t get this. Why does it need to exist
Mainstream
pretty entertaining but nothing to write home about. inoffensive on the ear peepers. 3. Except for the last song. jesus christ his voice is horrible. downgraded, 2.
One of the least enjoyed music styles. My first time listening to this album. Favorite songs: Sweet Emotion and Big Ten Inch Record But if you are going to brag about the size of your dick with this euphemism, ten inches is simply too big.
I don't care for aerosmith
Ni fú ni fá.
Not as bad as I thought it was going to be and a little more musically diverse. When it's at its best it sounds like a Stones rip off. When it's bad, it's very bad, witness the shocking '10 inch record': have a guess what it's about? It's about his penis and it doesn't even work as a metaphor. Best song is obviously the original version of Walk This Way.
This was pretty solid but there was nothing too exciting at all
I just don't like Aerosmith at all. They have a few good singles here and there, but they don't have an album that I'd recommend listening all the way though
I don't get why, at some point, everyone decided Aerosmith was good? Have you heard the news? It's not.
Not their best, also kind of weird it's part of the 1001
I'll give it 2 stars because my favorite Aerosmith song is on it (Sweet Emotion), but otherwise, it would have been 1. This album is so boring and lifeless and generic, it's hard to believe it actually exist. Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion could have been 45 rpm singles and that's it.
Oh so one of the best albums of all time plays the same re-hashed twelve bar blues that had been played for the past 30 years and features cringe-inducing lyrics about teenage sexuality that makes me want to take a shower? lol ok. Only interesting song is Round And Round.
The best songs are not the hits
I think this Aerosmith album was added to this collection for essentially just "Walk This Way" and "Sweet Emotion". The rest of the album can be brushed off. I honestly think an album like "Get A Grip" would make more sense on this list.
Yeh, ‘Toys In The Attic’ is OK, I guess. Other than ‘Walk This Way’ and ‘Sweet Emotion’ there’s nothing else here that I find really memorable.
Sweet Emotion is an amazing song, but the rest of the album did not impress
It's got those 2 singles, you know, the ones you've heard a thousand times? Also there's some filler, too. Overall kind of boring, but not terrible.
Kinda meh. A few decent to strong songs in my opinion, but too few to make it worth coming back to probably. 4/10
Minder irritant dan ik had verwacht, ook niet heel spannend.
aaaaaaa
