Reviews (page 6 of 9)
Pretty unremarkable music if you ask me.
I pretty much despise Aerosmith, America's non-answer to the Rolling Stones, with their brand of generic blues poser-rock fronted by the off-putting, sleazy, slumbaggy, American Idol "judge", Steven Tyler. They produced several albums that sold way too many copies than they deserved and have managed to maintain a big fan base and popularity even after over 50 years in the biz. My first exposure was probably hearing that "Dream On" song on the radio, but the first time I heard Toys In The Attic (in it's entirety) was on a cassette I found in the backlane by someone's garbage cans covered in dirt, but playable. I still have the tape and I would consider, Toys the only Aerosmith album I can listen to start to finish without cringing. It's the only Aerosmith recording I have in my collection (hey, it was "free"!) and I actually like it. This album has several songs that are worth the price of admission alone and overall it's solid. It's hard to admit that, I just wish the band quit while they were ahead, but you need to tour and make shitty records=money, to support drug habits. Too bad for us.
★★★½
В принципе, альбом неплох. Но чем-то мне неприятен вокал Тайлера (сам не знаю почему). В общем, поставлю 6,5 из 10.
Old school rock and roll and some nice riffs. 7/10
Rather liked this one. The original version of Walk This Way sounds SOOOO different.
A decent 70s rock album I suppose
Pump and Get a Grip are my favourite Aerosmith albums. And they were amazing to see live. However, this album is just a little lacklustre. But not a bad listen.
Aside from a couple of tracks including “Walk This Way”, it’s rather generic and mostly forgettable. Not their best album at all. Midway house for me.
Durchschnittlicher Hardrock ohne Genialität. Etwas rauh, etwas grob und ordentlich wild. Leider ohne echten Hit.
Solid rock/blues rock album, there are a couple of the bands big hits on here. Wasn't aware that this album was so old, always thought of Aerosmith as a more of a pop/glam rock band. But when I listened to the album now, it does fit into the mid 70s style, which I like. The songs are solid, there are a lot of interesting riffs, melodies are solid and the vocals are strong, high and fit into the arrangements very well. Aerosmith for me always had sort of a Rolling Stones vibe of intertwined instruments which blend in together and you are never quite sure who is playing what and what exactly is played. I was between a 3 and a 4, giving it a 3 in the end because there wasn't enough to wow me.
This sounds like music for boomers to commit date rape to. Gets an extra star for Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion.
Mostly don't like this, but Sweet Emotion is truly great song
A bit backgroundy - some good guitars, and an alternative (orginal) versio of Walk This Way
Is this an essential Aerosmith album? Absolutely. Do we really need more than one Aerosmith album on this list? I don't know. It is interesting to see how they evolved as a band. It's subtle but it's there. They seem to be trying to immitate a good mid era Beatles album, and that's a pretty ambitious feat even if they don't reach it. I'll give it a 3 for effort.
It’s fine. Doesn’t stand out to me much.
Good variety in songs
I guess I just know too much now, but Aerosmith just makes me feel a bit sleazy. Walk This Way is probably the best song on the album, but the lyrics feel real creepy now. There's some real solid rock on this album, especially the guitar was pretty fun. Round and Round was the standout to me, but again they gotta sing about underage girls. Album cover: (C) I don't like the name Toys in the Attic or the toy motif visually. With all the underage girl stuff, I just don't trust it.
Aerosmith being Aerosmith. I like it
Cool record and objectively great, but just not my cup of tea. Legacy band and frontman so I tip my hat but just really not in love with this kind of rock. Favorites: Toys In The Attic, Sweet Emotion, You See Me Crying
Solid kjøtt og poteite råkkenråll, til tross for pedofilien.
Classic 1970s rock in the style of Led Zeppelin, etc. It was fine!
Some of this is gross 70s style macho shit. Some is album filter trash. But then there are the gems. I'm not sure the gems save it.
Clearly talented musicians and have earned a place in music culture and history, but outside of the singles nothing really grabbed my attention on this album. I'm not a huge Aerosmith fan and this album didn't change that.
Pretty standard, generic dad rock band, can't go wrong with it Ended nicely on my favorite track on this, You See Me Crying
Has some hits. Only heard "Dream On" before this & it did not disappoint. Great album.
Was curious if we were going to see any Aerosmith on this list. Wouldn't exactly call them "groundbreaking" per se, but they've had some chart-topping tock hits throughout the years and figured they were a popular enough group to at least be featured once on this list. Nothing really stacks up to their sixth track "Sweet Emotion" here. In fact, it almost feels out of place here given the rest of the content. "Walk This Way" appears to have been the bigger hit at the time, but I personally always preferred the collab they did with Run-DMC in 1986 (maybe it's the hip-hop fan in me). Per usual, it was interesting reading up on the writing/production process as Steven Tyler was apparently writing lyrics as music was being completed. Not sure how unusual that is in the music industry, but struck me as unique. Regardless, pretty middling album outside of the big singles. Aerosmith always struck me as more of a "greatest hits" band.
Okay. Just okay. Wanted to dislike it more because Steven Tyler is a creep-o but my simpleton brain likes some tracks, ugh. Aerosmith were like the third choice for the rock-n-roller coaster at disney world. I always wondered why they were chosen. Like who thinks back on music history and were like "Aerosmith... now that was a band." Like there's no way. I imagine they were really popular among the people who didn't really dive into the better music of the decade. What do I know tho this shit was okay ig. Unrelated: I remember riding the aforementioned rock-n-rollercoaster as a kid and hearing "Dude Looks Like a Lady" for the first time and I thought that's a bit strange chat is this offensive? It was stuck in my head the rest of vacation, haunting me. I'm gonna go listen to it now god damn it me and my pea pleb brain. 3/5 grudgingly
I've listened to a lot of Aerosmith, my mum had a bit of a phase... never quite got it. I'd never actually sat and listened to a full album (although I've definitely heard full albums, but not paid attention). This one is quite a bit earlier than the stuff I'm more familiar with, except the hits of course. It was bluesier than I expected.
Never been the biggest Aerosmith fan but I thoroughly enjoyed this album
Aerosmith, to me, is the very definition of a middle of the road band. They have some pretty memorable songs but just a lot that that is either bad or just pretty forgettable. Aside from Walk this Way and Sweet Emotion and maybe the title track Toys in the Attic, the rest of this just felt like filler.
Another band I should like more than I do. I enjoy listening to some of their songs but as a whole I never love Aerosmith.
A solid American rock'n'roll album with classic Aerosmith songs "Sweet Emotion" and "Walk This Way". Pretty good guitar work on this recording!
I'm not a fan of Aerosmith. I always felt they were trying to hard to be Led Zeppelin, but with less grandiose lyrics. I can confidently say that: 70s Aerosmith > 80s & 90s Aerosmith. Watching them perform on tv when I was a teen and in my 20s, I just found it embarrassing to watch Steven Tyler jumping around like that. Maybe with Liv Tyler being in one of his videos put me off, I don't know. But you can't deny their hits of the 70s: "Walk This Way," "Toys In The Attic," "Sweet Emotion" ... they're all on this album. I have always liked "Big Ten Inch Record," but my wife always contends that she married a 12-year old. So those kind of things are always funny to me. The album tapers off for me near the end, with the songs after "Sweet Emotion" being kinda unmemorable. But I think that's because "Sweet Emotion" is such a well-known song. It happened for me for "1984" as well: you get to "Hot For Teacher," and that has such a grand finish I forget there are other songs after that. And that last song, Tyler is screaming WAY too much. Anyway, on the strength of the songs there that we all know, I would be fine giving it a 3.4. It's not up to a 4, particularly since so many of the album tracks I would skip. Top tracks: title track, "Walk This Way," "Uncle Salty," "Big Ten Inch Record," "Sweet Emotion"
An good album still with good songs but did not enjoy it so much
walk this way és top, però no sé.... no m'ho he passat gaire bé escoltant-lo
first listen pretty meh
3.8
This was a bit better than the other aerosmith album we had, wasn't as overproduced and felt like they were leaning on led Zeppelin a bit more than the other one which is preferred. Run DMC version of walk this way is a lot better than the one here, think the more dynamic production is required for that song. Otherwise yep it was okay but still had a lot of the hair metal problems, 2.5.
You can definitely see how influential this album was on hard rock and heavy metal in the 80s and even the 90s grunge, alt-rock and alt-metal genres.
Some stand-out songs. Some 70 s inspired noise
Consegui ver onde várias bandas se inspiraram. É uma música bem envolvente, mas além de Sweet Emotion e Round And Round, nenhuma outra música chamou minha atenção.
Can't get into Aerosmith. It's a me issue.
A lot of filler on here huh
Aerosmith finding their voice. Decent enough but really runs out of steam towards the end
Some very good rock songs and some forgettable ones, solid singing and playing, will come back to some songs probably not the album as a whole
Not their biggest one for me
A short, ok hard rock album from the mid 1970s, there are some hit songs but the rest are fillers, but it flows together quite well. Pretty enjoyable but overall it is probably not something I would revisit again.
You see my crying er gott, dittó Walk this way, og restin er ágætis áttundarokk. Schizo þristur.
Much better than expected. But they are nowhere nearStones or Led Zeppelin.
I wasn't expecting to listen to walk this way, I may prefer this version. Other than that the album didn't really blow me out of the water
This might be the most emblematic Aerosmith record. A song like “Big Ten Inch Record” shows off the band’s musical talent while making you cringe at the extremely thinly-veiled double entendres. Points for “Sweet Emotion,” but I’m reminded why I really haven’t listened to this band since I was 13.
There's nothing inherently wrong with this, but it's not great either. There's a few bangers on here, but the rest is average.
Never been a big fan of Aerosmith, but this wasn't terrible.
I think I like this Aerosmith better than their later work. Less hair-rocky, Tyler's voice is less dominating and some songs have a rough edge. Still, there is something about it that doesn't click with me, it's probably too much influenced by traditional (Jerry Lee Lewis, Bill Haley) rock and roll for me. Those typical rhythm guitars. There are several instances where I thought they were going to squeeze in "great balls of fire". It's not a bad album, but in the mid 70's you also had Led Zeppelin, Queen, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd and the like... compared to those bands this album is rather conventional and well-behaved.
‘70s-‘80s hard rock is hit or miss for me, but adding a blues twist always ends up giving the album more character. In this case, I enjoyed this record more than I thought, considering I’m not particularly fond of Aerosmith
It was alright
More like 3.5
huge meh
classic rock, fun at points, lotta hits, inda bland.
Some classic riff! 3 stars
Sweet Emotion always reminds me of one of my favourite films, Dazed and Confused, so I was looking forward to this album based on that. Unfortunately the rest of the album didn’t really live up to my hopes with most of the songs nothing particularly special.
Not special, but it has some fantastic classics. I love 'Dream On' most of Aerosmith, but that isn't on here.
mid
Classic early Aerosmith, before the pop hooks took over. I think when it comes to Aerosmith, anyone could sing one of their songs and not knowing it, you would say “wow, that sounds like Aerosmith”. They have this sound and it’s a love or hate sound. This album rocks, that’s for sure. Rocks as in it’s just pure blusey, dirty rock. I can just imagine hearing Sweet Emotion for the first time. It has a very distinct opening and hearing that for the first time would have caught your attention instantly. That song does not fail. Walk this Way needed Run DMC in my opinion . This isn’t a bad album. It has a steady pace with a few well known bangers. Choice cut: Adams Apple
Like actual toys you find in an attic, there’s some value, but not remarkable enough to keep.
I'm tired.
Some fun songs and some ruined by being overplayed by the radio.
Damn, okay, I don't know what I was expecting from Aerosmith but I actually throuroughly enjoyed this. A lot more country/classic rock influenced than I would have expected for some reason.
Guitar was nice. Toys was decent. The other new to me songs were just ok
Good
Ehhh I was borderline on whether this was as good as people say. My conclusion: this is average. Sweet Emotion is obviously a classic, but what else does this offer? Some sleazy shtick that easily grows weary. You See Me Crying was the solid ballad I didn’t see coming, something Aerosmith devolved towards as their career progressed, but on this album it sounds incredibly earnest. Walk This Way is more memorable for the remix that came later rather than the original. Wouldn’t recommend it.
Good mix of kick-ass rock and somewhat-alternative (for the 70's) songs.
Love the singles... album cuts are kinda skippable
I think I’d decided that Aerosmith were some kind of “hidden gem” that I was yet to discover, after having one of their later albums on the list and making an edit for work using Dream On. Like “between this beautiful bit of classic rock and this monster hip/hop/rock crossover they must have made some great music”. But no, this is pretty generic dad rock and nothing at all to get excited about. Shame.
🎧7/9ths of this album kinda stinks, but then it’s got Walk This Way (good) and Sweet Emotion, one of the best rock songs of the 1970s.
These toys aren't as embarrassing to play with as later models but they're best kept in the attic either way.
Sweet emotion alone gets a 3.
Very middle-of-the-road rock for me. But hey, at least it pulls off that generic (and good) 70s rock sound that so many other bands tried and failed. Guitar riffs that are simple, brash, and somewhat memorable, propped up by a bass that often mirrors the riff but never really strays out of its comfort zone. Some good vocals, but ultimately they just aren't distinct enough from other bands at the time. And after having heard Led Zeppelin's music from 1969-75, I'm finding this a steep comparison to make. I'd like to take a moment to comment on the top-voted review here: "back in the 70s, steven tyler fucked an underaged groupie, and proceeded to literally adopt her as his legal daughter so he could keep fucking this child. he can stuff his big ten inch up his own ass for all i care" Now, I'm no Aerosmith fan, especially after the unremarkably passable rockfest of Toys in the Attic – but you can't seriously hold this belief unless you extend it to just about any white male 70s rock artist. Lennon, Bowie, most of Led Zep, Kiss... et cetera. This kind of review is just farming likes for something you could easily put on another artist. I was hovering between a 2 and a 3, but this review made me choose 3 to counterbalance the 1 (which is unreasonably low, even if you (rightfully) despise members of the band). 3/5 Key tracks: Toys In The Attic, Adam's Apple, Sweet Emotion
What a creepy album cover! This is the Aerosmith album with Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion. It's about what I expected.
For me this album is really measured by the songs not named "Walk This Way" and "Sweet Emotion". Those songs I've heard a million times and they've withstood the test of time enough to keep the album afloat at a 3 minimum. But what about the songs I've never heard? Any gems hidden in there? The answer unfortunately is a big fat no. Big Ten Inch Record is corny as hell. Toys in the Attic and Adams Apple are beyond forgettable.
It's funny how similar this album is to the rolling stones albums 10 years prior: so much blues and boogie present in influence and sound. A few big hits, but they don't skew the overall rating of the album
In my opinion, very middle of the road
Good album overall, but I've never fully connected with it. These songs have been played to death on the radio and I could probably go the rest of my life without hearing them.
The latter half of this album is where their sounds shines through, with captivating guitar lines and great overall harmony. Steven Tyler (?)’s vocals are a little… uncompelling at times. The ten inch record song is atrocious and I can’t believe it’s in between Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion, the two most prominent songs. Regardless, decent sound and a short album.
Né infamia né lode, tende un pizzico in più verso la lode ma non deve montarsi la testa
Quality 70s rock. We enjoyed this. Sweet Emotion is especially good.
The most classic of classic rock. They have a rollercoaster at Didney. I liked the song about big fat 10 inch cock. 5/10
Classic Aerosmith. A rock band gives birth to rap!
Decent rock album, but Rocks impressed me more.
Classic rock still remains firmly not my thing, but as far as it goes these guys aren't too bad. Lots of catchy melodies and the lyrics are humorous enough to actually be interesting.
It was good, melancholic yet very upbeat, the lyrics are a bit ‘eeky’? But overall the theme is constant and pretty there, sweet emotion is the one that stands out from the album. Even if it’s a pretty short album, it feels very long. 6.2/10.
Aerosmith was one of my brother's favored groups so I got to know this album through him. I've always been kind of neutral on Aerosmith and while this album was decent, it doesn't rise to a 4 for me. Sweet Emotion is a banger though.
I think this album is not very groundbreaking in terms of rock as whole, but given the fact it was 1975 when this came out it sounds very modern. Walk This Way is a great track. I'm just not a biggest fan of Aerosmith.
This wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. Like other people on here, I was mostly familiar with 90s Aerosmith. But this is basically pretty low-stakes garage rock/bar band stuff. That doesn't mean it's good, it's just not terrible.
solid record with huge songs. Me personally am not a huge aerosmith fan but i still enjoy bunch of these records. 3.0/5.0
I was intrigued to listen to this given I know nothing pre-late 80s from them. TBH I was left feeling a bit nonplussed by it. So it’s got some average blues rock that was the staple of the day, meh. There was a some individuality on Walk this way and Sweet Emotion which was much more funky and you can see how that may have influenced some 80s hair metal (fair play). My favourite was Round and Round, which was much heavier, but I suspect that’s a bit of an outlier for them. But overall I just didn’t get much personality from it, what sets them apart from other 70s rock. I should probably listen to further albums to find out, but off this showing I think it can remain a mystery unless this list forces me…..
Enjoyed this more than I thought. Clearly a filthy bunch of coked up egotists but solid riffs and good tunes.
Classic rock. A couple of really good songs here like Sweet Emotion. I felt like the production needed a little work, especially with the vocalist. I felt like in half of the songs, everything was muddy and difficult to listen to. Wanted to like this more than I did.
Yet another album better than I'd expected. Quire Bluesy. Rocks along nicely
Nothing special. Obviously Sweet Emotion and Walk This Way elevate the rating I would have given to a 3 instead of a 2. You See Me Cryin' is a beautiful ballad and I feel like this is where the band and Steve Tyler's vocal strengths lie (I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing another gorgeous ballad not on here) - maybe they should have stuck to that style instead of generic rock songs about looking up some schoolgirl's skirt or something.
Inoffensive, but this is the third album I've been served from them, and that's really just too many Aerosmith albums.
Toys In The Attic Walk This Way Sweet Emotion Round And Round You See Me Crying
Three-and-a-half stars album, Aerosmith really recorded some iconic songs on this one.
Probably Aerosmith’s best album with some of their best songs. But while I think Aerosmith wrote some catchy tunes, they definitely walked (this way… heh) so that others could run, including Run-D.M.C. with their re-interpretation “Walk This Way” or Shania Twain whose “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” sounds suspiciously like Aerosmith’s “Uncle Salty” (but in a good way, Twain’s song is so much better.
Good album, not my favorite but they showcased a few styles.
it started off strong but i feel like it drifted away, but wasn't too bad. just classic aerosmith
obligatory fuck steven tyler though
I grew up owning the Best of Album for Aerosmith, and I think this was a good choice. Best of, prior to their 1980's/90's shit. So this is worthy of inclusion based on the classics, but those lesser songs I can live without.
A few classic hits. I'd probably hit a greatest hits before I'd hit this.
It’s okay
Classic 80s Rock!
After my surprising love of Rocks, I was excited to listen to this in full. Turns out it just reinforced my priors. Early Aerosmith isn't great, but they aren't awful. Sweet Emotion is great though. Probably not coming back to this one.
Rock. Catchy at times, but mostly boring. Includes major hit Walk This Way.
Als nicht allzu großer Hardrock Fan kann man das Album doch ganz gut anhören und teilweise mitnicken.
3+ sweet emotion
Walk this way and Sweet emotion are worth it but the rest is not.
Yea fine cool
I used to love Aerosmith when I was like in middle school, and now it does feel a bit purile.
Cool, nothing special
Not my style but I like it, very cokey
Aerosmith enjoyed some relative success in the two albums prior to this, but it really feels like this is the album where they landed on their distinctive sound. Finding that sound on this album brought about two of the band's biggest hits, period: "Walk This Way" and "Sweet Emotion". There's a reason why both of these are regarded as quintessential Aerosmith songs; sure there are other, earlier, Aerosmith songs that are popular, but these became synonymous with that Aerosmith sound. Aside from that big, notable step for the band, most of this album didn't really stand out to me, but it and the songs were baseline enjoyable!
anche questo classico
bel gruppo, capisco perché sono noti, sanno giocare coi generi e hanno un bel sound canzoni che ho apprezzato particolarmente: big ten inch record you see me crying any way you want it
non il mio preferito degli Aerosmith, ma sempre bravi. e Walk this way è sempre una mega hit.
Ok, ci sta.
Né infamia né lode, tende un pizzico in più verso la lode ma non deve montarsi la testa
Great stuff
Outside of Sweet Emotions and Walk This Way, like most of Aerosmith's 70s stuff, I just feel like it is too hit or miss for me
This shits almost 50 years old lol wow. Steve Tyler sounds so young but obviously a couple of these tracks at least have become iconic. The title track is the best of the non iconic hits. Feel like I'm watching a Richard Linklater movie.
Pretty decent '70s rock album, it has everything you could expect from an album from this time. Good listen overall.
Born in late 1980, I had always seen Aerosmith as a caricature of a rock band, which they basically had become by their late 80's comeback. I'll always have an ironic nostalgia for "Get a Grip" with some great soapy pop classics. Their first four records however, encompassing the mid70s is a 5 album tear of solid hard rock. This may be the best of the bunch with two hits in Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion
Next...
Oh sorry I thought yesterday was the peak of Dad Rock.
Despite Walk This Way, this album didn't grip me.
When someone says “70s classic rock” this will be what I think of.
3.5 i actually enjoyed this one good dad rock
Struggled to engage with this beyond the hits, did have a different sound to what I was expected, more varied.
Meh
Good
3.5/5
Some iconic songs. A lot of meh, including a “my big dick” joke that goes on way too long. Steven Tyler is a shitbird, but I’m not going to kill the whole review for that.
this album and i go way back, in a sense. my mom bought me a used copy of this on CD when i was in elementary school and starting to really get into music. i listened to it back then and was only interested in the two big songs on this one (walk this way, sweet emotion). growing up in massachusetts, this album and band is unavoidable, and i'm not sure if my relative ambivalence is because i have been inundated with these songs for years or if i just simply do not really care for this stuff. it's not /bad/, like i think most of these songs are fine enough. but this album just really comes off as a big meh for me, even with the big songs included. it's just one i do not care for. i don't hate it, it's just whatever to me. there are a million other rock bands putting out stuff in the same time period that is more interesting, more thought out, more worth listening to, in my opinion.
I'm a little impressed that this came out in the mid-70s and not the mid-80s. Other than that, it's generic blues rock with a few dated sections and some okay bits. Overall a pretty dull 3 stars.
I own Aerosmith records and have listened to them many times over the decades, but I had never sat down and listened to Toys in the Attic all the way through uninterrupted. I learned that I still love the hits "Walk This Way" and "Sweet Emotion" but I was also pleased to discover an enjoyment for "Round and Round" as well. The only track that truly seemed out of place was "Big 10 Inch Record". My 10 year old self would have giggled and loved it, but the middle-aged me cannot help but roll my eyes. While the album is of cultural importance with its inclusion of "Walk this Way", thereby setting up the creation of the Rap Rock genre ten years later with Run DMC, and I enjoy the record, I'm not sure THIS album in particular belongs on this list.
Couple of classics in here, but not an album where every cut is a gem.
I felt like I should be breakdancing on a sheet of cardboard and starting a neighborhood dance while we dance down the street. So chaotic
Classic. Feels like I’ve heard it a million times because we all have.
Not bad; classic Dad rock album. I think they should've included Aerosmith debut instead.
The instrumentation in this is awesome and I really enjoyed the sound of it if when i was a little zoned out, but if I started tuning into the lyrics I liked it a lot less.
It's fine - the songs are stronger on PV (Rag Doll, Dude)
Just seems like the perfect definition of average
Walk This Way & Sweet Emotion are 70s anthems. Rest of the album can stay in the attic
Could be a 4 but downgrading it because of steven tyler
Maybe it’s because I’ve heard lots of classic rock before, but this didn’t particularly stand out to me
Not a bad listen. At least 3 classic songs that most people are familiar with but I dug ‘Round and Round’. It was a midtempo rocker that I can hear in other bands that came after them. Worlds apart from the Aerosmith that got their 2nd wind after the Run-DMC version of ‘Walk This Way’ that I was more familiar with.
The singles range from good to magnificent. The rest is filler or just better.
Sounds like I expected, nice to know where ‘Walk this way’ comes from and still catchy song and melody
B- Toys In The Attic 3 Uncle Salty 3 Adam's Apple 3 Walk This Way 3 Big Ten Inch Record 3 Sweet Emotion 3 No More No More 3 Round And Round 3 You See Me Crying 5 Pretty nice listen, great new song to add.
Good but too american
Classic rock. Doesn’t sound much like the later Aerosmith.
My wife is a massive Aerosmith fan, so I know this album well. There are some absolute rock classics. Sweet Emotion, in particular, is just a great record. The original version of Walk this Way is a bit flat compared to the Run DMC collab. The whole “Suck on my big 10 inch” thing is a bit mad, but overall it’s a great rock album.
yeah, this is 70’s rock all right
Overall a pretty average rock record. Most of it is pretty meh but there are some interesting bits, some surprises, and a couple of classics on there.
Kind of great, kind of awful. Kind of cringey, kind of lovely. This is the root of garbage rock. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. 10 Inch Record is disgusting, but Sweet Emotion is amazing. Walk this Way is fun and definitely a classic.
I thought it would have more known songs on it. Still good, but very short album!
Fine
young men peacocking displaying colors, strength, charm raw energy throbs
I have heard of Aerosmith and listened to Walk this Way which is off this album. Though the rest of it didn’t really impress me much which I was sad about since the songs I do know from Aerosmith are really good. I did like: You see me crying though. I will listen again and maybe other Aerosmith albums will be better.
Classic Aerosmith
I feel like I should of learned something but didn’t
Rating: 5.5/10 This album is composed of two amazing songs and seven incredibly mid/mediocre songs. Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion are so good that it warrants this album getting three stars, very disappointed with pretty much the rest of it though. Favorite songs: Walk This Way, Sweet Emotion. Worst songs: Toys In The Attic, Big Ten Inch Record.
Classic rock & roll
As a casual non-listener, I've always found Aerosmith a little hard to categorise: a bit too late to be "classic rock" with my favourite veterans, but a bit too early to fall under the hard-rock or metal stylings that would simmer over the next few years, before exploding into ludicrous hair-metal. In 1975, Aerosmith's brand of hyper-macho riffage feels a little out-of-step: disco and punk are right around the corner, and artsier, trendier subgenres are on the rise. So while lauded by fans of the band, "Toys in the Attic" has never been on my radar as a 70's rock classic and almost every track has evaded me until now. I've been really missing out with "Sweet Emotion", which is my clear standout: it's a fantastic song, with a great balance of hard-edged verse and enigmatic chorus. I also enjoyed the extra instrumentation laced throughout (a bass marimba, a breaking vibraslap, a lecherous talk box). "Walk This Way", too, is a lot of fun, though it feels strange to hear it with the Run-DMC makeover stripped away. And the title track is a frenetic opener which sells the album well: a rhythm section diving headfirst into fury; meaty, ringing guitar chords; layered backing vocals repeating the title phrase with glee. The last stretch of the album either collapses under its own weight or floats away from a lack of it: I can't decide. "No More No More" and "Round and Round" both feel like repetitive, empty jam sessions to me, failing to capture the same excitement as the hits. I also can't resist pointing out that what "Toys in the Attic" brings in bluesy riffs and sample-ready choruses, it severely lacks in progressive sexual politics. I don't have a total aversion to innuendos in rock, but these are pretty woeful: "you ain't seen nothing 'till you're down on a muffin"; "she ate it, lordy it was love at first bite"; "suck on my big ten inch record". That said, who really listens to Aerosmith for insightful sexual politics?
Don’t listen to Aerosmith often.
Sweet emotion is great
Great American Rock and Roll but many are better
How very 70s
Couple of good songs - and a lot better than their new stuff. But not something I'd seek out to listen to.
What can I say? It’s an Aerosmith record. It has its ups: The title track is fun and “Sweet Emotion” is brilliant. It has its downs: The infuriating “Big Ten Inch Record” and a lot of Steven Tyler. It’s not good, it’s not bad. It’s just Aerosmith. I think Toys In The Attic is my 3rd record by the band on this list so far. Here’s to hoping that it’s the last.
This album is good. Part way through it seemed like it was dependent on it's singles a bit, however You See Me Crying was a great closer and wrapped up the experience well. 3/5
Eh, like Aerosmith. I thought I would like this album more. Maybe I was not in the mood for a lot of double entendre yesterday. Favorite track is Sweet Emotion.
Good 70s rock. I really liked Toy in the Attic. Solid music.
This may not be a perfect album, suffering from a few tonal inconsistencies, but it stands forever as an artifact of scuzzy 70's rock idealism. The tonal inconsistencies could be perhaps a metaphor for the resulting career Aerosmith & frontman Steven Tyler had in the decades to follow, with many hills and valleys artistically and otherwise, but that all said, when you talk about Aerosmith in the 1975, you put some respect on the name. It's through the context of this entire album that you hear the true brilliance of overplayed classic rock radio staples "Walk This Way" and "Sweet Emotion" for the sonically-creative juggernauts that they are. While the Stonesy blues-rock of "Big Ten Inch Record" and orchestral Beatles-spawned ballad of "You See Me Crying" don't quite land as thunderously as their influences, they are satisfying in their earnest approach, only amplifying tracks like the title track and "Round And Round". This is because as always when it comes to Aerosmith, they are at their best when they are being themselves to the maximum.
I thought I would like it more than I did
a few great tracks, great guitar licks. Solid album. People seem hung up on the "steven Tyler being a pedo" thing but at the end of the day back then you could probably get away with murder if you were famous. Be grateful you have the internet people. Everyone's a cunt. That ain't news.
This album was alright, and carried by two of my favorite songs from Aerosmith (Walk This Way/Sweet Emotion). Besides that, the album has a very heavy blues rock sound amd contains some catchy riffs. I recommend at least a single listen of the album in its entirety. Favorite Song(s): "Walk This Way", "Sweet Emotion", "No More No More"
Some good songs, like Sweet Emotion and Walk this Way. Memorable vocals. Apart from that, everything was alright. The beginning of Uncle Salty sounded a bit like Man I Feel Like a Woman.
feel like a bunch of the recent albums have felt like this to me; there's nothing bad ab it but I also would rather be listening to something else and it doesn't do anything great. fine for background music because id be happy to talk over this, not that that's a negative thing but not sure if thi 5.5/10
Pretty good. I kind of have to hype myself up to enjoy rock and roll albums, but if I’m in the mood I really like them. 6.5/10
6/10 - There are some good songs and some I do not really care for
Just kinda boring, but not too bad. 5/10
Meh
Everyone knows Aerosmith as a classic rock band with the standout electric guitar sound. But I never realized how much of a blues album this is. Which is not bad by any means. I'd let Steven Tyler wail into my ears all day long.
Walk this way.
Not bad. Not my favourite.
Not Aerosmiths best album. Was okay
I prefer 90’s Aerosmith to 70’s Aerosmith. It was a decent rock album worthy of three stars but it didn’t fully engage me. Sweet Emotion is the standout track.
Some stellar standout singles, 10 inch is kinda creepy track. Enjoyed like 1/3 of the album.
A mid tier record from a mediocre band. If it wasn't for a few outstanding riffs, this would be completely forgettable. I really don't understand the hype this band has.
i don't know what to make of this record, if i like it or not. there are a few highlights, but man if the lows are lows. a great thing is that is mostly a fun album, i wouldn't get mad if i listened to it again, but i just don't get it. the opening of the album, \"toys in the attic\" is considered to be a first proto-punk track, but i don't think so at all. \"uncle salty\" is such a messy track that i think i grew to even like it (?), \"walk this way\" is so overplayed that whatever i say would be influenced by it. \"adam's apple\" is boring, but \"sweet emotion\" still sounds good like \"no more no more\". oh, and something everyone agrees to, what a bad closing track, so bad considering \"round and round\" is not bad at all. it's good to have a designated image and sound to that 70s sleazy youth, but maybe i just don't care that much like those guys (my father). and everywhere they like this album, i just can't seem to be or feel impressed, i just don't know what to do with it.
Very mediocre record saved by Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion. And even then I think the Run-DMC version of Walk This Way is better. Cheap sex appeal crammed into every song and renders them all more boring for it.
I was kind of excited about this album, because I know Aerosmith has some really good songs, including a couple on this album - Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion. Sadly, though, the first three songs kind of suck. No More No More is OK, and Round and Round is quite good, but other than those 4 songs, the rest of the album is decidedly meh. Overall, really disappointing album. I kinda would give it a 2.5 if I could.
Ha so fast kei notize gmacht zu dem, meega viel gitarre isch echt nice. Cha nöd viel sege es guete rock aber nöd woooow. No erstuunlich findi dases klar de sound vo früehnem hip-hop beiiflusst het. Z.b. beastie boys wo mer scho gha hend als album.
erste song titletrack nüt speziells afoch en rocksong? uncle salty bluesrock, s tönt alles schön crunchy. walk this way riese banger. chrank wie fest dass d drums noch hip hop töned. riff und alles crazy geil. solo seehr cool. big ten inch record isch afoch en penis joke oder? aber blues cool. sweet emotion easy nice. riff chli basic aber d hook isch sehr geil und die hinderschi abgspielte tön sind super. no more no more sehr southern rock und so. aber backing vocals sind hard. Round and Round isch langsam und härter? und flanger vocals sind geil? ich find s isch allgemein bitz republikaner-rock. you see me crying, er singt plötzlich bitz wie de labi siffre und s lied macht öppis? findi besser als die andere. eeendlich mol nöd nume zwei gitarre wo riffed und chli interessanti chords wenn de text scho afoch rock text isch. sust sorry sevi aber da git es zwei. vlt bini au z wenig ufmerksam gsi und gib dem album sim ifluss z wenig gwicht aber die meiste songs hani ehner bland gfunde. walk this way und you see me crying sind highlights. 2-3
I WAS CRYYYYYING WHEN I MET YOUUU NO WI'M TRYING TO FORGET YOUUUU ich han us irgeme grund sehr en softe spot für aerosmith hahaha aber ich kenn jz vo dem album nur sweet emotion und walk this way okeeee ja für mich ischs eifach rock. leider het mich nüt würkli mitgrisse, au wenns für die damalig ziit öppis speziells gsi isch? naja han get a grip lieber
Nothing more than average rock music.
+pretty decent guitar +nothing too notable about the album apart from that +AGAIN, i keep saying this, a lot the songs aren't easily distinguishable (at least on the first listen) +big ten inch??? EXCUSE ME??? anyway, that song kinda stood out to me reminded me more of rockabilly not notable. it's just mediocre rock mostly 6/10
Actually not very loud, likeable
Passable but derivative
Listening to this album as a young teenager is where I first learned what "the rabbit died" meant. Ah, memories!
While it was nice to hear some old favorites by Aerosmith, the B-tracks that I could swear I half-recognized brought this down. There's the old joke about guitarists only needing to know three chords to play a lot of popular music, but several tracks felt like Aerosmith scrubbed out their previous lyrics and just put in new ones - not that they copied somebody else, but that they went "That song didn't land, reuse what we already composed with new lyrics."
Strip club rock. Good instrumentals but song subject was vapid and sleazy.
Some of the less popular songs are pretty good, I've never heard them before. Early tracks remind me a bit of Blind Melon.
Hit or miss. Big Ten Inch... Really?!?! 3.11
Big Guitar Hero vibes. There are some hits, very distinct sound and definitely stable for some people. Not as bad as I was expecting but did not surprise either.
I like the blues rock style of a lof of these songs, and there are also a few I've heard before. Overall, a solid album.
Pretty good album
I'm feeling a high 3 on this one trans - -ition Have you given this album a listen? Did you love it did you hate it? What would you rate it?You're the best, you're the best. What should I review next? Hit the like if you like and please subscribe. Alex Mackey, Aerosmith, Forever.
love the classic hits and vibes that are in dad rock bands such as aerosmith. this album however? feels like it has a good bit of filler, and only a few tracks are what i want to listen to. tracks like 'walk this way' bring it up to an average 3.
Aus heutiger Sicht z.T. etwas simpeler Rock. Das Titelstück geht gut ab. Weiterer top pick: _Sweet Emotion_. _Walk This Way_ (das mir bis dato einzig bekannte) und _Round And Round_ kann ich auch mal hören.
Pretty good my Aerosmith's standards.
fav song: walk this way
This is Aerosmith's third album, and their biggest commercial success. This work contains some of their biggest hits, like "Walk this Way" and "Sweet Emotion." The band's raunchy, confident style is a defining element of their songs, and their popular appeal made them one of the biggest rock bands of the 70s and 80s.
I'm surprised this is from the mid 70s, I thought it was late 80s. I love Sweet Emotion.
Solid 7/10. Very backloaded. Didn’t really care for Uncle Salty, BTIR, or Adam’s Apple. Title track and Sweet Emotion were fantastic, and the rest if the album ranged from great to good.
Honestly, it's not too bad. This is my 3rd Aerosmith album here and that's pretty much been my experience: I have low expectations and they somehow surpass them. Just like in the other 2 reviews it's the instruments that really are the star of this band. Hot take to infuriate the boomers and lovers of all things cock rock: Stephen (Steven? Who care) Tyler is not a very good vocalist. He brings it down and makes me hate the band. See also when they get too bluesy. No thanks. A 3 with a free shrug and a sigh.
so bangers
This album hits the ground running and doesn't let up for the majority of its runtime. Obviously Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion are mega hits, but Toys In The Attic and No More No More are great additions too. There are a couple tracks that I get the point of, but that I still would skip if I was listening again. There are some weird undertones throughout that I wish weren't there, but musically this is a really solid album. Highlight: Sweet Emotion Lowlight: Round And Round Surprise Hit: No More No More
Not bad for a Stones/Zep hybrid...
Two massive hits, the rest wasn't what I was expecting from Aerosmith
The singles really carry this album "you see me crying" starts out as a solid ballad that took me by surprise. unfortunately, goes full cheese half way through. most of the ideas are just reassemblings of existing works from better bands.
Standard 70's rock in its's prime - with. lot of competition for air time back then. Classics Hits got air time and will be instantly recognizable ( "walk this way" and "sweet emotion" - standards associated) to Aerosmith to any casual listener. Other songs follow suit... can't push my rating to a 4 - - really a 3.5
Some real classics. Walk this way and sweet emotion. 3.8
Bit waily
Un escencial del Hard Rock y uno de los mejores álbumes de Aerosmith, considerando que su carrera ha sido mantenerse en un sonido constante, sin innovar mucho o desviar de la fórmula clásica de la "música con guitarras".
Fun enough, but nothing stands out
Svingede lidt mellem 3 og 4. Synes der er noget god blues og tråd, men måske lidt for generic og uinspireret til det rigtigt interesserer mig
- Great classic sound - Nothing much to say about Aerosmith, it was fun to listen to - 3.5
- impressive variety - crazy how far rock has come, those pianos just don’t exist these days - jack of all trades, master of none?
Very old school rock music by today's standards.
This was bad. I like a bit of Aerosmith but I found it very hard to get through this. Walk This Way salvaged it for me but only just.
Not a fan of Aerosmith but their best album, grows on you on repeated plays
I was expecting over the top singing. Glad that didn't happen until the last song.
Not a favorite but a good one
It's alright, but not essential. Reminds me of early Queen, but not as good. Favorite song: You See Me Crying
Meh
Ja opzich maar niet laaiend enthousiast ofzo
Pretty good, Big Ten Inch Record is howver, terrible. Definitely need to listen to it again and louder.
Some cool songs but mostly sounds very similar to one another.
Carried by 2 massive singles, some random classic rock n roll in there.
Aerosmith has always been more of a singles band than an album band for me. Toys in the Attic reaffirms this idea. Sweet Emotion and Walk this Way are classics. Most of the rest is forgettable. 3/5
I was never really a fan of Aerosmith and this album didn't really change that. That being said, it wasn't bad and I recognized a few of their hits off of it. 3/5
2/9, 22%
It doesn't really get more Aerosmith-ier than this album. If you want Aerosmith nobody would be disappointed if you put this one on. With standout tracks like "Toys in the Attic", "Walk This Way", and "Sweet Emotion" you'll be having a good ole 70's rock time. Tracks like "Adam's Apple" and "No More No More" leave something to be desired but hey, not every song can be great. And then theres "Big Ten Inch Record" (get it? it's his penis!) which I don't really know how I feel about. All this boils down to a solid 3/5 album. I mean, it is Aerosmith so you can't really expect more than that.
3.5 stars. "Sweet Emotion" is an incredible song that has an iconic bass riff. "Walk This Way" has equally catchy hook as gross lyrics? "You See Me Crying" is what a power ballad done well sounds like. But the rest of the album is meh,
pretty deece
Twas okay.
Didn't have a chance to listen yesterday. So I'll go through a few songs this morning. Sweet Emotion is on here. That always reminds me of Dazed and Confused. Oh and Walk This Way.
Naturally I know this album, or at least parts of it, though I’m more familiar with their later works (this is already their third album?!?). Not my usual cup of tea, but I really appreciate the beats, the exuberance of the singing, and the implied strutting, even if Steven Tyler himself is a real sleazeball. Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion really hold up and I love the swing rhythm of Big Ten Inch Record. But Round and Round and You See Me Crying are tedious.
Good old school glam rock and roll. I knew walk this way but didn't know it was from Aerosmith and that this was the original version (besides the one with run DMC)- I am happy I have rediscovered it. Not sure it fit the mood of the day, but lately I am not sure what fits the mood to start with. Upbeat, rocky, glammy.
This came out after I took a hard right to acoustic music. It is OK but It still is not my jam.
Not a strong start to this album in my opinion, but by the time you hit Walk This Way and onwards it really picks up, pretty fun listen. 3.5
A few classics surrounded by OK filler
Aerosmith was a band that got me deeper into hard rock growing up, and this was one the pivotal albums for me. I feel that a lot of the artist's tone became weaker as I got older, and it almost drowns in a sea of better performed and written music. Some tracks on this one are stellar, while others feel like they wander aimlessly and crudely.
Knew the hits on this album but have never listened to much Aerosmith. Enjoyed it
Decent but could barely understand the lyrics. The best song was sweet emotion for sure. I did like that is was very upbeat and cool/rock vibes
It's fine and pretty generic sounding 70s era rock.
3.5
Underwhelming overall, but some solid hits.
Obviously love sweet emotion and walk this way but as a whole not the entire album
Covered by REM. That’s good enough for me
Rigtig far-rock, hård guitar, og et par bangers
This was one of the first albums on my iPod Nano in middle school, but it was also one of the ones that fell off of my radar as I got sick of the crudeness of peak classic rock. Adam's Apple, Big Ten Inch Record are among the ones I remember from my childhood for being gratuitiously lewd (others being from AC/DC, Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, etc.). And I don't mean to be prude, but just kinda burnt out on it. When every album has a meme track about sex, it gets a bit old. That said, I have forgotten how deep this album is. No more No more feels moderately overlooked, but is great, I forgot that Sweet Emotion was even on this disc, and the titular Toys in the Attic is an absolute banger. I overall liked this trip down memory road, even with steven tyler's memable "yowling on you seem me crying" (which is a hilarious prelude to the already-a-meme "I don't want to miss a thing"). Its a good album, but I can't give a fair review when I'm burnt out on generic classic rock guys doing guy things. Maybe this is me getting old and lame.
More mostly-boring dad rock
Haven't heard this since before high school. When Aerosmith didn't suck. Favorites: Toys, Uncle Salty, Sweet Emotion.
I grew up hearing a lot of Aerosmith music, partly because I grew up in the late 70s and early 80s when Aerosmith was very popular, and also because they are a local band to Boston's South Shore, where I was. I didn't listen to a lot of Aerosmith as I got older, so it was nice to return to this album after all this time. I remember very well the handful of super-popular tracks, but it was great to re-hear the other tracks, too. Reminds me that this band is more versatile and interesting than a lot of contemporary popular rock bands of the time. I like the influence of funk and those styles. As musicians, they are superbly strong. Some really good writing and compositional work here, too. Overall, great album.
Opens with a banger! Makes me wanna mosh. It’s downhill from there. But overall it rocks.
Some standouts and some more boring parts.
There are some definite rock standards on this album, particularly Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion. It's hard to deny their significance. Unfortunately, this period is arguably the height of Steven Tyler's sleaziness. While it's tempting to try to separate the art from the artist, it's hard when you hear songs like Uncle Salty. In Tyler's words: "Salty worked in a home for lost children and had his way with this little girl." That's a little too close for comfort to the accusations against Tyler. Sadly, some of these songs hit a lot differently when you know the background.
AJ: Sweet Emotion rules. That’s it for me.
Aside the big hits on this album, it's not my fave Aerosmith record.
Lively but extremely repetitive. OK if it was on already playing, but it does get annoying to listen to as a full album.
Aerosmithin hittilevy.
It was okay. The guys are memorable, but the rest wasn't impressive.
Surprisingly, I enjoyed this album and even some of the lesser known (to me) tracks were quite good. I say surprisingly as I am an Aerosmith hater -- in small doses it's enjoyable for this 40 minute album.
Relativ langweilig 2-3 gute Songs
Classic banger
Ok, obviously I’m familiar with Aerosmith. I see a couple on here that are 5s, Walk This Way, and Sweet Emotion. Be interesting to listen to the rest. Oh yeah, Big Ten Inch Record I’ve heard before. Randall was a big Aerosmith fan for a while, I wouldn’t be surprised if he played this record for me. Funny, I don’t remember the Smith sounding this way. I always thought of them as a backup Rolling Stones. But Steven Tyler is kind of at the back of the sound a lot of the time. Ok, got to Walk This Way. Is this album 3 good songs with a bunch of filler? Track 7 starts off nice - yeah, more Tyler upfront, more harmony … it’s almost like they became Aerosmith after that three song run in the middle. Yeah, even this one is kind of bland after a promising start. Nice Joe Perry work on the solo in the middle though.
I expected more from Aerosmith, this album is perfectly serviceable rock, nothing amazing.Walk this way is pretty good and so is toys in the attic but the rest is bland.
Hyvät kappaleet hyviä, muut ok. Sweet Emotion kova. Walk This Waysta kuullut Run DMC versiota liikaa niin orkkis kuullosti vähän oudolta.
C'était pas trop le moment mais vas-y
j'ai pas trop fait attention mais u go guys
