Easeist 5 so far
Phew, that's easy
Offspring легенды
Mon Secondaire et Cégep...
Pas mal plus hard que ce que je me rappelais! Je me rappelais plus du côté punk disons, mais c'est assez grungy et assez 'punch in the face' du hard rock/metal. J'aime bien.
Classique punk 90s. J’aime le punk, j’ai juste pu autant l’occasion d’en écouter. Je le connaissais deja par coeur. Ça donne hâte à Green Day, Rancid, Bad Religion!
Love the punk sound, as it is my fav genre. Slaps hard
Fun pop punk album. Made me feel like I should be paying crazy taxi or Tony hawk.
Easy 5 for me
Easy 5
Super fun 90’s punk rock.
nostalgia
This album was the 2nd or 3rd album I ever bought with my own money. I heard it at a friends house who had it while we were playing Nintendo and I loved every second of it. Every single track on this is good. Maybe not all of them are great, but every one of them is a wonderful example of the line between pop punk and actual punk and it's done with so much energy that the line barely exists. The singles are radio accessible while having a message at the same time, and the other tracks are all pretty much in your face, high energy, and a blast to listen to. None of it has to be complicated; you could play this whole album a month after learning how to play guitar. Even "What in the world happened to you", which leans in to that ska-punk crossover genre, is simple yet exciting. I have a lot of love for this album, if it isn't obvious. It's great fun. The extra "track" at the end is so 90's, and makes me sort of miss the CD era. Funnily enough this album got so scratched over the years that I don't think my CD is actually playable anymore, so that's one negative of the time.
If not my favorite album, It's at least in my top 5. The frenetic energy and catchy hooks really pull you in for the ride. Every song on here is a banger. Lol, 90's secret tracks.
This record got so much play during our parties. The sound was everything we hoped for—pure bliss, exhilarating.
My dad was at my house on this day and he said he remembers listening to this album on his Walkman after losing his last football game ever.
I prefer Ixnay, but this is still one of their best
Een absolute classic
Probably not a 5 but it’s getting one
It's time to relax, you know what that means! Classic album of a classic rock/punk band that accompanied through my youth. Just had seen them in Zurich last November - love the energy, love the sound, love Self Esteem!
Used to be a big Offspring guy in high school and this album brought me right back. “Nitro” is an underrated hit of theirs that starts this album off right and is also featured in the goat football movie “Varsity Blues”. The fast paced tempo of the album had me in a constant subtle head bang and made me want to run through a brick wall. Overall, enjoyed this one a lot.
So great! My fourth grade teacher found this cassette in my desk, looked at the lyrics, and called my parents to rat me out. That day I was reborn as a punk. This record changed my life and I’ve never looked back.
Один із перших їхніх альбомів який я почув ще в школі, це досі звучить круто і ніколи не набриде
In the onslaught on the Grunge movement this album, while popular, really didn’t get it just due.
One of the greats of the pop punk genre. For what it is, it doesn't get much better than this.
Always been a fan of The Offspring from the hits. This was my first time listening through an entire album and it ruled. The hits are awesome and, more importantly, the songs in between the hits only add to the overall album experience. I've been on a good streak lately and this keeps it going
Yes dude Peak offspring, 3 classic bangers on here in : come out and play, self esteem, genocide, gotta get away. This album is 32 years old .. but incredibly applicable still today, as most punk is the struggle persist. I knew this was going to feel modern with the current federal occupation of MPLS. Bad habit still hits so hard. Combat anthems Few perky/ skaish silly, classic offspring tracks Still kinda fresh. Great album for what it's trying to be, it knows what it is and rips it.
Peak 90s punk/skate punk album. Classic
Man, this is an instant time machine back to my youth, a soundtrack for California afternoons, good friends, simple times, no responsibilities, just carefree fun. Right place at the right time. Fight on! ✌️
Oh yeah!! 🤘🏻🔥 I was a casual fan of The Offspring - liked all the songs I knew but hadn't listened to any full albums. Ended up seeing them on tour recently and they blew me away!! So I was super excited to get this album I knew a handful of the songs, but the rest are just as good. Pure nostalgia and incredible energy. Self Esteem is a banger! No notes just 5 ⭐️
Yet another that I don't need to listen to! I never got too into the Offspring, but this is a banger of an album. Blistering guitar, a great bass tone, frenetic drums, Dexter is great, the whole band kills it on this one. "Genocide" is an absolute buzzsaw of a punk guitar riff, fantastic song. "What Happened to You?" is a fun little ska-esque diversion from the heavy punk onslaught.
My favourite offspring album. From start to finish an absolute blast.
Very good album, loved it from start to finish. i’m literally speechless on how good it was and the guitar was impeccable in all song omg
Deep Purple is the best! This was one of my first albums as a kid I’m pretty sure my parents bought me.
SUCH A FUN LISTEN! I LOVED LISTENING TO THIS, MIGHT NEED A SPEAKER TO BLAST THIS AND MOSHHHHHH.
Listened Before? N Ah yes, when the punks went pop. The offspring are seriously punk rock and seriously smart. They bled WAY over into the mainstream on this one and it's probably one of the biggest records of the 90s. It tears serious ass for over 45 minutes with almost no slowdowns. Riff after riff, song after song.... even the wild bassline from Come Out and Play. Killer stuff. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist:
Great album, this band creates a unique vibe
Awesome
Very good
Solid, grew up on this album. Still listen to gone away regularly.
Jolly good
Absolute classic. So many bangers. What great music. A true refletction of humanity. It makes me want to turn to my fellow man and say EMAMF.
These guys did an amazing job playing hopscotch on the line between goofball punk and self serious alt rock. A fun listen
Certified hood classic
Ok, I kinda love them bringing back instrumentals from Come Out and Play as a hidden track with a Middle Eastern vibe at the end. What to say about this overall, it's a rager! I like the chill dude introducing and concluding this, that was a cute touch. I'm all for a good angsty 90s album. Having come of age in that era, it feels like "comfort punk" to me. There are a lot of great hits on here, and I enjoyed a lot of the songs I wasn't familiar with too. Solid lyrics throughout as well. There's really nothing stopping me from giving this a 5, so...
Surprising probably no one who knows me, I really like this album. Self-esteem is actually one of the songs I liked least, which just means I really liked everything else. The offspring manage to be grating but in a good way.
Absolutely love this group I still have this on cassette got it for Christmas in 1994
Epic
I may be dumb, but I'm not a dweeb. Rules to live by. Rules to grow by. I was taught this lesson when I was 7 years old. To this day, unreal album.... The elusive 5
Olha só, vindo uma das favoritas ainda pós show recente. Hype. Nunca ouvi a discografia deles do início ao fim. A vice da Bad Habit é muito boa. Gotta Get Away pica também, álbum muito bom até agora. Genocide não conhecia, bem da hora também. Até Come Out and Play aqui, foda demais. Foi a música que abriram o show, com o brother fazendo a voz. Descobri que ele era tipo o Lee do Tenacious D, fã e até hoje tá nos shows. Muito foda a escala em um modo ˜ GREGO˜ diferenciado aqui. Self Esteem. Os caras estavam voando aqui nesse álbum, pqp. Isso que Americana ia vir 4 anos depois. What Happened to You me lembra uma vibe Tony Hawk, nostálgico também.
Kickass album that starts off with a bang and doesn't let up. There's loads of great songs here: Gotta Get Away, Self Esteem, and of course Come Out And Play (which was the first Offspring song I ever heard). The album is very well constructed with just the right amount of not-polished. It still feels scrappy and indie, which adds to its appeal.
6/5
Nostalgia, probably best album from the offspring. Remember riding the bus listening to a burned copy of this 😂
4.6 With hindsight this was arguably the best of the poppunk albums, and yet it only achieved fame by riding on the coattails of the explosion of dookie. The reason why it works so well is that the offspring were legitimately a punk band, with a spirit more akin to NoFX than green day/blink, who ventured into pop territory. This album leans a bit more to punk, Americana closer to pop, before they fully transitioned into pretty awful tepid pop punk after that, I'm talking Sum41/Busted levels. The ferocious energy of this album is what drives it, and although not every song is a beast, with the latter half in particular running a bit drier in a couple places (What Happened To You nearly drags it down a star), the sheer number of absolute belters puts it at the pinnacle of the genre.
Love it
So angsty. So 90s. So amazing.
I listened to this a lot at my cousin's house while playing Donkey Kong Country with Orange Crush and Old Dutch. I still think he's saying "DONKEY KONG... EVERY DAY" in Genocide. No skipz
This was one of my gateway albums into punk rock - The Offspring were so peak here, it was great.
Amazing album! I like “Gotta Get Away”, “Come Out and Play”, “Self-Esteem”, “It’ll Be a Long Time”, and “What Happened to You”. “Not the One” and “Smash” remind me so much of the angsty energy of “You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid” (I loved that song as a teen). I loved the old school narrator intro and outro they used. The instrumental ending to “Smash” is great! It has some oriental sounding elements to it. There is an 8min dead air in that song for a hidden break.
I was a suburban white kid in the 90s, I have no choice but to 5 star this one
This was the first CD I ever bought. I still really enjoy this album but its ranking is almost certainly bumped by nostalgia factor. I think I am willing to now admit Dookie was the better album but this still holds up. 4.5
Amazingly 90s. Bias 5 from be for being one of two CDs that where given to me by my sister when I was a child to chape my musical tastes today.
First one I’ve heard all the way through before love the offspring!
La virgen que chute de energia. Tiene que ser dificil mantener ese registro tan alto todo el tiempo.
Tätä levyä ollaan kulutettu ja aikakausi muutenkin ollut merkitsevä. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Eka cd, jonka oon saanut. Sekä yksi parhaita levyjä ikinä. 6/5.
Sometimes an album comes along that has just the energy you need! It’s a banger start to finish. Perfect score.
Only really heard a handful of their songs but liked them. Just had never dove into them more. Really liked this album a lot. Will be listening to this again
Amazing cover to cover. Every time I listen I’m reminded just how unique and powerful these tracks are. Certainly nothing like it at the time and honestly maybe still. Some powerful tracks lyrically like What Happened To You? Not The One, and Come Out And Play. Not The One in particular feels timeless in its message and just as powerful today. Stand out tracks are Come Out and Play, Bad Habit, Not The One, and Self Esteem.
4.54
These bangers have been buried in my mind since the mid-90s. Imagine my surprise when I realized I remembered almost every song. Thanks to 11-year-old me for burning the lyrics of Bad Habit into my brain so that I can still scream them in my car 30-odd years later.
I used to love these guys. Then they went woke and kicked their drummer out of the band for not getting the toxic jab back you know when. I listen with hatred but not prejudice . This is a great album. I feel like it broke down the old door of punk and pushed it, although temporarily, into a new level. I don’t know what happened but I feel like when EMO faded, so did the more aggressive punk. I think it faded into pop punk and never looked back. This is high energy from the start and it doesn’t let off. Couldn’t it be fast and heavier? Sure but this hovers just above the speed limit as to not get caught and told to slow it down. So ya, there’s guitar and hooks and melodies. This was their best before they sold out and then went woke when that petered out. I can hate them now but back then I couldn’t get enough of this album. Choice cut: Gotta Get Away
exactly my kind of album. beautiful. grungey, punky. down with this entirely. only heard a handful of songs from it and never listened to the full album through. i loved it and it was a really good listen.
4.5 stars. Middle section slaps. Fun stop-start guitar riffs and some ska influence. Better driving fast than slow.
Honestly, after the past week, I'm just glad to get an album that was released within the past 30-ish years. Also gives me confidence that maybe there are other albums on the list released beyond 1979. I haven't spoiled myself by looking at the list yet. This album is very, very good. This is my first time listening to the entire album from the first track to the last, I think I've just heard the songs randomly over the years. But damn, this scratches just the right itch for me. Also, I accidentally sent a screenshot of this album with the text "national cheeseburger day" because it is national cheeseburger day today, which is funny as hell. I was like, Offspring Smashburger collab hahaha.
Some nostalgia baked in, but not really a bad song here. It’s not quite pop punk but isn’t punk. It’s a bridge between bands like Pennywise and Blink 182.
Huge fan of the offspring. This album is killer from beginning to end.
This album is unfairly blamed for a lot of the terrible music it influenced. This album, however, is fucking mint.
Heard it many times in my youth
Es mi infancia. La primera banda que me llevó por el camino de la música. No puedo ser objetiva.
What a fantastic record. I love the sound of this band. I love how this is so clearly a hardcore punk record, that somehow appealed to the masses. I don't know if its Dexter's vocals or the silliness behind the music and lyrics. It reminds me of Descendents but better produced and polished. This record has been in my life for as long as I have been interested in music. I remember hearing Self Esteem for the first time and thinking it was somewhat perverted in the best kind of way. Come Out and Play is such a rad surf punk song. I also love how they threw in a ska punk song on here for good measure, it makes me wonder if they really wanted to add that or if their producer talked them into it. This was produced on Epitaph after all. I love this record and I love this band. Long live The Offspring.
This album is a banger. I can listen to this on repeat!
вечная классика
Love this album. It was groundbreaking when it came out and made big waves in my friend group. First heard come out and play on a mix tape, and we all wondered if it was a local band, as the sound was just so different from anything we'd heard before.
This album WAS my childhood!
Best album for painting houses
Okay so there IS some good music on this list!
🎵 Gotta keep it five star rated 🎵
It’s great to have an album on the list that I already listen to a few times a year. I’m counting this is as a ska album on the list
Perfect amalgamation of punk and grunge.
Good. Very good.
This band definitely influenced a ton of the bands I love. I’d buy this record and spin it, would revisit. 5/5
The best independent record label release ever
This reminds me of being 14 so much
Great! Reminded me of listening to music in my older brothers car on the way to middle school.
Donkey Kong, every day.
I love this album, One of the 90s rock greatest hits! Seen the offspring twice and they can still put on a great show!
Often times during this project I have criticized and truly wondered why they chose some specific albums from great artists over others. They always seem to go with the ones no one listens to over the hits. That being said, this album has “Gotta Get Away”, “Come Out and Play” and “Self Esteem”. Ladies and Gentlemen, they absolutely cooked with this one. I am pretty bummed this is the only Offspring album on here, but it would be hard to argue that this isn’t their absolute best. Somewhat of a bias because I grew up with it, but I absolutely LOVE this album, even though I’m not always the biggest enjoyer of Punk music. But there are always exceptions to rules, and The Offspring is perhaps my biggest exception yet when it comes to Punk. This is one of the first examples I’d come up with when asked the question “What did the 90’s sound like?”. Put this on with some Pearl Jam and you’ve got a great thing going. Unique sounding singer, all bangers, cool album art, super tight and under 50 minutes long, you’re damn right I’m giving it another 5!!
Standout Songs: Nitro (Youth Energy) Bad Habit Something to Believe In Come Out and Play Self Esteem It'll Be a Long Time What Happened to You? Smash Absolutey incredible punk rock album, definitely Offspring’s best work. Another album I was pretty familiar with going in and very happy I gave it a full listen.
Friggin classic. Love this Album
I LOVE this album. When I was in sixth grade (around 11 years old for the European folks), my friend played Conspiracy of One for me and I went out and bought it immediately. I liked it so much I picked up Smash at the same time without any demos. This one became the soundtrack of my entire year. I listened to it every day when I was getting ready for school and often afterwards too. Coming back as an adult do I find some flaws, sure. The aggressive tone is ham fisted and they don't feel as authentic as I thought as a preteen, but hot damn do I not care at all. Rock the fuck on Offspring.
yeah this was really good. this is like peak alternative because it rides the line between rock and r&b. i REALLY liked “come out and play” but the whole album was a banger. 5/5.
Alright that energy won me over
Given that I owned this on cassette (cassette!) when I was a teenager and I also listened to it a few weeks ago when I felt the need to cathartically yell into the abyss, there is no need for me to listen to this today to rate it. But it'd be rude not to. When I was about 12 we got MTV and within a couple of years it completely changed my listening habits. I think the first Offspring song I heard as a kid was Self Esteem because MTV played it to death, but for me, Come Out And Play is the best song on here. The fact they're remembered for Pretty Fly For A White Guy and not something from Smash is a crying shame (but I'm sure that song built Dexter Holland a house or two, and probably paid for his solo flight nonstop around the world, so I can't begrudge it too much). This was a pivotal album from my childhood. 5/5
Liked it a lot. Five stars.
Favourite tracks - Bad Habit, Come Out and Play, Self Esteem
5 out of 5. Easily their best album.
Do I really need to explain why this is one of my favorites?
A classic for me
It's inconceivable that I've not heard this before, but here we are. I fucking love it too, and why wouldn't I? Heard before ❌️ Listened this time ✅️ Revisit ✅️ Purchase ✅️ Right properly up my street 9/10
Great one
My only conception of the Offspring is negative because my 8th grade math teacher assigned names of 80s/90s rock bands to each student as secret keys for us to see grades on our tests, and I was assigned Offspring because I'm a twin. He seemed like a dope football coach so I always assumed the band would suck. Now listening to them, it's hilarious to hear songs about revolution and sticking up against corporate and elite cronyism when I have no doubt that the dope eventually became a Trump supporter. Musically, I loved this album. Songs like Genocide are high tempo and relatively strong lyrically with great guitar work, and the songs are much more sophisticated than your basic jam bands with multiple complex progressions on songs like It'll Be a Long Time. In my younger days, this would be my ceiling for how hard I want my rock to be. Songs like Self Esteem were clearly inspired heavily by Nirvana and Green Day. Only downside here is that for the second time this year, I've thought I heard a line that I absolutely loved then after looking up the lyrics realized I misheard. On Genocide, I thought they were saying "On our fellow man we prey", and then turned it around with "For our fellow man we prey", the idea that the working class's oppressors are human, but since the working class does not individually have power, they also must rely on humans to save them. 4.5 rounded up out of surprise
Slowly solidifying my system for this program: First listen with no research, read up on it (unless it sucks too much for me to care or I'm way behind), second listen, with occasional lyric looking up. Not specific here, but if anyone was curious. Also when I have the time, my review set up is standardizing: first impressions/pre-listen thoughts, stray thoughts while listening, actual review. Pre-thoughts: I basically only know Offspring because of "You're Gonna Go Far Kid" which just based on my searching for this album, appears to be a later piece, maybe not even well-liked, that would have gotten a ton of radio play in my riding the bus to school days, but perhaps is not indicative of their thing from their 90s prime (I would never have guessed that this was originally a 90s band). Stray Thoughts: -This has a nice, almost Motorhead, western vibe to it. I'm not sure that makes sense because I don't mean western in the sense of country, but it just has a "yee haw, I'm riding beyond the bounds of normal society" vibe (think Ace of Spades; I don't actually know if this is typical of Motorhead) -Really short tracks here. They are true to the punks of yore. -This is much more distinctive sound than I was expecting from Offspring -Ending with a 10 minute song. I'm not always super friendly to the concept of such long pieces. Oh it's a hidden track thing. These translate funnily to the digital era. Verdict: Freewheeling punk that for whatever reason make me thing of wide open skies and western biker gangs. This is really good; I had no idea the Offspring I know from "Dance Fucker Dance" had this much intensity 5 stars. I was on the fence, and tbh seeing Alex' rating may have biased me, but Imma give it to them.
Great album, used to listen to it a lot back in my twenties.
Dit is top 10 favoriete albums voor mij. Come Out and Play, Self Esteem, Bad Habit, Genocide en zoveel meer geweldige nummers. Echt een aanrader
Mudou a vida! Aqui eu descobri o Punk e nunca mais fui o mesmo.
Amazing album. I’ve owned this for years and it never gets old. When 11 year old me heard these songs for the first time on Y100 in Philadelphia, it definitely turned me on to something I didn’t know existed. It really was one of my main introductions to punk.
What an album! My (and many others) gateway in to punk rock! From that killer opening, spoken word track (that I used on every mixtape/CD as an opening song) right down to the surf infused instrumental that ends the album it’s all soooo good! So many classic songs, this is the pinnacle of their catalogue for me, the follow up album was pretty decent too but I feel like they lost their way after that. How good is the breakdown in “Bad Habit”?!?! 13 year old me loved screaming that out (when my parents weren’t home) but I honestly can’t find a bad track. This is such a seminal album for me and set me up for a lifetime of love of Punk rock!
On a punk or even pseudo punk scale, it is like a 7. On this list, it was awesome. They still have great individual songs.
Such a great album. Surprised it’s on the list, if I’m being honest, but if you got room for 2 dozen Neil Young albums, why not a little 90’s commercial punk? This one spent a lot of time inside my original 1 disc CD player. Offspring & Rancid opened the door to more punk exploration for me, which wasn’t an easy endeavor in the pre-internet days. All killer. No filler. This shit still holds up. Bad Habit & It’ll Be A Long Time are my favorites.
Classic
oh hell yeah so in your face and 90s angsty skater boys vibes, loved itttt, dunno why i haven't gotten into them earlier tbh but im guessing it's mostly because 'pretty fly for a white guy' doesn't make a good ad for the band. Oh and bad habit has been on my frequent rotation for a whillleee now, especially great when driving :)
throwback to them teen days
I have honestly never listened to this album in its entirety before. I knew the hits and that is about it. After listening I was pleasantly surprised how good this album is from beginning to end. It has great energy and never slows down. I. Really enjoyed this album a lot and will add it to my collection. Favorites are “Bad Habit”, “Not The One”, and “Come Out and Play”.
Loved it. Just a great, high energy album. Highlights: Gotta Get Away Genocide It'll Be a Long Time Killboy Powerhead
Exceptional. Love The Offsping.
This is one of those albums I wish I heard when I was younger
incredible
Клевый альбом, крутая группа
It´s Monday, rainy, and the page made me listen to this punk gem. 5/5, a classic that brings me back in the days.
Listened to it a lot
Great album, lots of memories…first car, first job, summer of 1994. Played this a TON
The best part of Grade 6 was yelling, "you stupid dumbshit goddamn motherfucker."
Grew up listening to The Offspring so this album is an all timer for me. Just some absolute classics on this thing.
What can we say about the Offspring?? This is their incredible smash hit (see what I did) album from the 90s and it's still exactly as I remember it: kind of bad, kind of insane, but dripping with heart, honesty, and realness. They were real punks in a time of corporatism. The lead singer's voice is nasally and upsetting. Their songs are about how much they suck. They are shamefully noisy. God I love it.
Bardzo, bardzo fajne. 5/5
Wow wow wow what an album
9.5/10
I’ve always like The Offspring, but this was my first time listening to Smash from start to finish. Pretty damn great! The vocals are what elevates them IMO.
This came out right in the middle of my punk era and this was an absolute banger. I saw them tour this album and they were amazing!
Punchy, energetic and very enjoyable! Better than the more popular follow up, Americana.
Love this album too
this was my first favorite album growing up
wazny album tbh tbh dobry shit
Verbinde ich immer mit Skateboardfahren lul auch wenn ich damals immer Americana gehört habe
Classic mid-90s punk modern rock
A bit biased here ar I grew up with this record, but talk about executing exactly what you set out to do, all while writing catchy hard rocking tunes
An absolute punk masterpiece. Heavy, mad and fast. Great producing songs are great and although most have the same pace they link perfectly. The songs tjat chance pace help out the flow of the album. skating community salutes the offsprings for keeping it real and making it even more real.
10/10 archetype for punk albums
punkrock
I can listen to this start to finish any day.
Старый добрый офф
It's another one of my nostalgic 5's, but this one is pretty special to me, and it still KICKS ASS. I was about 14 or 15 when I first heard this album. I remember it incredibly vividly. I know the exact spot I was standing in at school when a friend handed me his headphones one lunchtime and I listened to 'Gotta Get Away' for the first time. The Offspring for me weren't just a gateway band into alternative music, it was a whole moment in our lives. I became part of the 'alternative' crowd and embraced that as part of my identity. I wasn't a trendy asshole and I liked good music! I was obsessed with the Offspring from there. They were the first band I saw live (side note: The 'Million Miles Away' video is from that very gig!), and I listened to them all the time. I'm SO happy that they've actually aged well, and that the albums still have heaps of energy and punch to them. I even saw them live again last year for the first time since 2000, and they were excellent! Putting my music critic hat on.. some of this can sound quite samey, or have the same kind of energy throughout. The drum beats and drive is so similar across the album. But I love how relentless it is, and how it barely stops for air. There are some great tunes on here, full of energy and bite and get up and go, and I love it.
The kind of album that makes me lament the fact I can't see them live in their heyday.
Better than solid, the lyrics, hooks, and rhythms blend into a top notch album.
A favorite of mine from my high school days. From start to finish I was jamming out to this one singing along.
One of the very first albums i even listened too
5 stars
A lot of nostalgia points here, but i'm not ashamed to admit it.
reminds me of high school and summer time
Here we go! One of the monster albums of my youth. Skater punk, lets go. I was a teenage white boy when this came out into punk rock and new wave, I could not be any more target audience. Self Esteem was everywhere with that awesome bass riff. Songs about being angry and frustrations of all kinds. Furious drumming. Catchy riffs exploding everywhere. Throw in a song decrying gun violence that was also everywhere in the clubs. Plus some really great punk ska (which I was also heavily into). Songs so fast that they come out fully formed and last just 1:17. Round it off with the title track which is just brilliant. Yep. Sign me up. They didn't do a great deal good after this, basically just Ixnay and The Kids Aren't Alright. But this record and Ignition stand up to their best attempts to piss all over their legacy since. In my heart of hearts I know there's a lot to criticise, and it's dumb, and I don't disagree with some of the negative comments, however this simply got it's hooks into me before I conceived of those notions, and well, job done basically.
I’m definitely biased because I love Dexter Holland. You’d think his voice would become grating after a while, but it doesn’t for me. Angsty lyrics with a touch of wit. Love it.
I hadn't thought about this album in a long time. I was honestly shocked when I saw that it was the album of the day. There's soemthing about this album that really transports me back to this time frame. Waiting to hear Keep em seperated on the radio, or seeing them perform Self Esteem at the X-games. it's also amazing that this album really holds up. I listened to it, 2 times yesterday and didn't feel like it was dated or anything.
Great punk album. No skip songs and no rest throughout.
Classic
This album came out a few years before I got into “secular” music when I was in middle school in the late 90’s (raised super conservatively). Songs from The Offspring’s 1998 album Americana were all over hit radio, and they were some of my early favorites. I didn’t discover Smash until many years later. What a great album from start to finish. It’s pretty much perfectly executed, and there’s really no filler in its 46 minutes except for the silence before the bonus track. The welcoming radio host reminds me of Songs for the Deaf by QOTSA a decade later. I thought I was going to give this 4 stars, but it’s perfect for what it tries to be.
Best album ever
I love me some 80s-90’s west coast garage/punk/rock. Great live in the early 90’s
A classic of mid-90s punk. A lot of people looking at this album, and probably Dookie by Green Day, may blame them for the subsequent watering down and pop-ification of punk. In other words, would there be any Blink 182 if it wasn't for these albums? I'm not sure what the answer to that is, but the answer doesn't change the fact that this album is rock solid, with banger after banger. It holds up from my teenage years--I've actually listened to it quite often in recent months after probably a big break. I'm not as familiar with their albums after this one, but none of the Offspring stuff I've heard gets near this album as a complete package. Raw energy, great melodies, social commentary.
Is this album really well put together and fun? Absolutely. Am I tinted by nostalgia? Absolutely. Is the fact I played this on stage a fair bit stroking an ego I didn't know I even had? Probably. 5* it made me learn something about myself.
CD
I don't think anything else quite sounds like the Offspring. They're societal critique is so well delivered with the wall of sound and distortion they delivery. They rock hard and insult harder.
I like the mainstream punk of The Offspring. It's fast and dirty. But you can still recognize melodies and rhythm. It's just fun. This album is no exception. The track Self Esteem finds its place in my list of favorites. After listening to the album, I played The Offspring for quite a while. That was great. 5/5
Ahh... Nothing like kicking back to a little pop punk. Putting my feet up, sipping a diet Canada Dry that I wish wasn't a diet... These are the good times, people. For real, though, I do really love pop punk a lot. Which, OK, there was a part of me that hesitated on saying "love," 'coz I don't normally listen to much outside of Green Day, blink-182 and Sunrise Skater Kids — but I wanna emphasize how much I do truly love pop punk. It's a genre I could swear by, truly. Even the worst stuff, that was trying way too hard to relate to "the youths" — see stuff like Simple Plan or Good Charlotte — heck, it's still pop punk. As if I haven't spun Simple Plan's "Grow Up" more than once. So, what about The Offspring specifically, then? Despite being one of the Big 4 of pop punk in my mind (don't ask me who the other two are), I actually haven't listened to them much. Of course there's songs from them I play regularly, mostly singles: "Come Out And Play" (no duh), "Pretty Fly" ('cuz Weird Al parodied it), "Why Don't You Get A Job" ('cuz it's an "Ob-La-Di, "Ob-La Da" parody), "The Kids Aren't Alright" (that one's just awesome)... But I haven't played any of their albums like I have DOOKIE or ENEMEA OF THE STATE or... Goodness, even Sum 41's ALL KILLER NO FILLER. For the longest time I wasn't able to place my finger on why exactly, but I think after re-listening to SMASH I finally understand. Let's get this out of the way before anything else: SMASH is good. Amazing, even, actually. Top-tier pop punk, 5/5, no notes. It goes as hard as any of the other three albums I mentioned above. But if there's any reason why I don't reach for this first, honestly... It's the snot and attitude. Neither of those elements are entirely absent, but you just compare Dexter Holland's voice to Billie Joe's, or Tom's or Mark's, or Deryck's — you get it, right? The Offspring strike me as being way similar to, like, NOFX or Bad Religion. Those are bands I love, too, but I'm not sure if I'd call either of them "pop punk." Y'know, it's melodic hardcore, skate punk... Good stuff all; I'm just not as into as I am regular ol' pop punk. I think the short version of what I'm tryna explain here is "The Offspring are often more serious than I prefer." Just being 100 about my tastes. All said, though, of course, like I said above, I'm still giving this a 5/5. It rocks too hard and I had too much of a good time not to, even if it's not usually my thing. After all, punk, poppy or melodically hardcore, soothes even the most savage of beasts. (Hidden tracks don't, though. I can appreciate them in a pre-streaming age, but these days, unless they're split up like "Her Majesty"? Just a hassle, goodness.)
The 90s gave us plenty of excellent punk albums, and this one is certainly no exception. Solid 5 Stars.
I’m at a 5. Before listening, the only tracks by The Offspring I really knew were “Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)”, and their contributions to the Crazy Taxi soundtrack. I'm glad they've got more than that in their bag. In a weird way, I suppose I’m listening to the birth of the soundtrack of the late 90s at play here – not necessarily as impactful or as timeless as Nirvana, but just as important. Nirvana might’ve captured a post-Reagan anger across the entire U.S., but this feels like it’s capturing a more youthful side of that population – college kids, high schoolers & the like. It’s the sort of music that endured well into the mid-2000s, to match a sort of juvenile swagger of the time, tinged with just a hint of regret. I should know, because I sort of grew up on it. It’s reflected in the music too – a little messier, a little more unpolished, a bit over-the-top at times, certainly a bit cheesier & really in your face. I don’t think I’d have it any other way. The ancestors of punk rock are all present here (The Clash, Dead Kennedys, Sex Pistols, etc), but with a grunge-infused 90s flair that’s somehow both trapped within its time and nostalgic all the same. The guitar riffs are loud and booming, the percussion a little crazy and manic, and the energy is simply undeniable from track to track. Sure, a few of them suffer from the whole “first minute is the whole track” syndrome that will end up plaguing the “pop punk” era as a whole, but for the most part, I think a lot of these tracks miraculously avoid sounding too similar. I dunno, perhaps I’m just a bit overstimulated and impressed by how much I enjoyed this (or how much of a throwback it is for me), but for my tastes, I think I have to give this a 5. It’s definitely not perfect, but it’s a pretty damn good 40+ minutes, and while it’s absolutely going to bounce off of other people, I’m more than willing to lean into this style and embrace it, however flawed it is. It’s my type of 90s cheesy punk rock, and I really, really liked it. No shame in a 5 – certainly no less than a 3.
classic
I don't know how they blend punk and alt rock so well, but it just works
Just awesome. Again and always. They’re the voice of my generation, and we’re not alright.
This is #day137 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... there's something about this band's music and Dexter Holland's vocals that never fails to give me goosebumps. Born in 1990, I was introduced to The Offspring in the early '00s through Americana, with "The Kids Aren't Alright" being my all-time favorite song. I also have a special place in my heart for tracks like "Want You Bad," "Da Hui," and the Greatest Hits compilation. I love those times dearly and treasure them like no other. As for Smash, this is probably my first time listening to it front-to-back. As expected from the title, some absolute smashers are here, like "Gotta Get Away," "Come Out and Play," and "Self Esteem." The record is a little more than 30 years old, and it still kicks your little ass. Since this is the only Offspring album on the list, I'm giving it a 5 out of 5. Looking forward to#day138.
Amazing album. Has aged well over 30 years. Love the energy and guitars. 9/10 for me.
Ouch!
This album was one of the first punk albums I owned and I still enjoy it to this day.
not a big offspring girl but this album slapped
Trip down memory lane
Ingrained in my mind for so many years now feels like a comfortable old blanket, I can't look at this record critically so I won't even try!
Smash is a stone cold classic, there's not a bad song on there but loads of good ones, and the standard is so high throughout. The singles are all obviously strong but Genocide has always been my favourite off the album, it's original and authentic and accessible as anything, this is a 5/5 and makes for a great start to a Sunday.
They are alright
Cool 90s
You'll either love it or hate it, but I LOVE IT
The sound of my childhood. I just remembered the hits bit the rest of the album is also so good. Nice to have it pop up here.
it's really not my style, i don't really bond with straightforward punk that much but there's no fear or disdain of actual songcraft which is nice. has a few bangers. some of the songs are samey, but the singles especially have really unusual melodic bits (at least for hardcore) that satisfy my ears. and i think the vocals give it a nice edge that the contemporary pop punk bands of the day didn't have. not bad!
@shuck: lol
An essential to punk as a genre and a visualization of the essence of rock in the 90s. Plenty of other great albums came out in the decade, but I don't think this is one to sleep on. Love the opening intro too, it's something I always strive to do after a long day and some good tunes helps me relax.
1994 was the year that defined my taste in music for the next decades. Punk in Drublic, Dookie, Stranger than Fiction and Smash. Can’t believe it’s been 30 years already! This is the album that broke punk, along with Dookie, and it’s still The Offspring’s best album. So many bangers, but also a little filler. Genocide, Killboy Powerhead and So Alone don’t reach the heights of the other songs. But none of them are bad, so I guess the 5 stars are warranted
IT WAS SO GOOD!!! I am so going to listen to them more. I listened to another album of theirs and I love their style
One of my all-time faves
Hard-charging pogo pop-punk mosh pit killer album. I'm amped!
Lekker rauw, energiek, en goede nummers, pop-punk op z’n best.
Banger han das als chind aafange lose und gotta get away au uf de drums gspielt insanes album The offspring crazy geil
Confession time. I love me some pop punk and this album may be in the Mount Rushmore of pop punk albums. Does it deserve a 5*? Probably not. But nostalgia factor is huge and oh boy did I have a blast revisiting it. 4.5/5
Great nineties punk rock
One of my all time favorites!
Haven't heard this album since I was a teenager, it brought me back many years.
Lol love the spoken word parts at the beginning and end of a fast-paced punk album. Oh hell yeah.
Amazing album! Love The Offispring. I loved the radio voice over for the beginning and end of the album.
Ahh the return of the hidden tracks! This sounded like my childhood and reminds me of car rides with my dad. Cannot believe it’s been 30 years since it was released.
Just good old classic punk that became a staple in HS from 101X
I don't think I've ever listened to this record straight through, so was excited for the opportunity. It did not disappoint (like the previous two records we had to slog through). Highlights: the mention of "compact disc" on track 1, Genocide - what an absolute banger. This is technically 4.5 stars because I really don't enjoy Dexter's voice but I appreciate how this record made music like this more accessible to the general public.
Mighty entertaining skate punk!
Absolutely brutal lyrics combined with a defined punk sound that really aggravates me in the right way. I could imagine myself moshing like a madman to this. I absolutely love the genre and feel like they might not have adhered to the true nature of punk, but damn they made it worth it.
Yes please!
And just like that I’m 16 again, on a school bus for an excursion to somewhere and my mate passes me his Discman and says, “listen to this”. It was my intro to punk, I learned the riff to “Cone Out and Play” - it opened the door for me to Green Day, which brought me to Bad Religion and then Propagandhi. A love affair to be sure. I didn’t keep up with the Offspring, but I appreciate what they did for me. 5 stars - less for the album than what it meant to my future life.
Love it! 5/5
Good album, took me back to my youth
Damn I friggin love this album. This whole album was a nostalgic trip and I'm so grateful I've seen The Offspring live. Favourites were Come Out and Play, Self Esteem, and What Happened To You. In particular with WHTY I'm obsessed with the change of pace throughout the song, and love how the beat was super funky. Overall the album was just fantastic. It's one of my go tos for when I need something fast paced and high energy because I'll never not want to start moshing when The Offspring come on
Total smash
This just continues with catchy songs and high energy from start to finish: I love it.
It slaps
Big Offspring fan. Grew up in the era of the 90's punk resurgence where pop-punk began and could listen to it all day. I'll crank Come Out and Play/Self Esteem any time I hear them on the radio but I also love Bad Habit and the ska leaning What Happened to You?
Love this album. Have it memorized.
Damn this sounds like high school. It's pop punk, fast and fun. It's oftentimes dumb but I can't help but love it. Ive known all these songs for a while, and my favorites on this album are probably Come Out and Play and Self Esteem, but I was looking for a new one to appreciate and I think Killboy Piwerhead scratches the itch for me.
10/10 Offspring
This is hardly fair. Offspring was my favorite band in high school and this is their best album. 5 stars. Although I am slightly annoyed by the hidden track at the end of the album. That trend was never good and it didn't age well.
This is, in my opinion, the best generation of punk music. It's raw and energetic while still sounding very good. Great album.
Love Offspring, back to my youth
Energy is great
I grew up on this album how could I not give it a 5.
Good
What a great album! It’s a must have in the collection
Absolutely banging album. Self Esteem has to be one of my favourite Offspring tracks.
Ah, it's time to relax You know what that means A glass of wine, your favourite easy chair And of course, this compact disc Playing on your home stereo So, go on, and indulge yourself That's right, kick off your shoes Put your feet up Lean back and just enjoy the melodies After all, music soothes even the savage beast
I can hear this album in its entirety in my brain, and for 30 years no less.
Already loved The Offspring. Really enjoyed this album too. Also the lyrics were just great, for example: "YOU STUPID... DUMB SHIT... GOD DAMN MOTHERFUCKER". Straight poetry
so good. first 8 tracks are sublime
interesting to see how early this came out. Really thought this was late nineties at the earliest.
10/10 just pure bangers
Very nice
Love this band since highschool.
One of my favorite albums by my favorite band? Yeah, I've been waiting for this one. From an objective point of view, I think Ignition and Americana are better albums (they've never sounded better than on Americana, in my opinion, and the non-single songs are some of the best they've ever done, and Ignition is where they're lyrically at their best). However, it makes total sense for this album to be on here. It changed the game. Really brought punk to the mainstream in the 90s in a way other bands weren't and paved the way for the success of bands like Blink 182 and Rancid. Even though I was a kid in 1994, I remember this album being such a big deal. Listening to it with my older brother is what made me a lifelong fan of The Offspring. Let's talk about the songs. My brother had a copy of Spin magazine with Dexter Holland on the cover that I used to steal and read the article on them over and over. While it was during the Americana days, Dexter talked about what persuaded him to write "Bad Habit," and it endeared me to the song ever since. Plus, how can you hate a song with the lyrics "stupid dumbshit goddamn motherfucker?" "Self Esteem" is their masterpiece. Hands down, no questions. "Come Out and Play," "Bad Habit," "Nitro (Youth Energy)," and "Smash" are my other favorites, but honestly there isn't one song on here that I don't like in some way. Still know all the words. Still belt them at the top of my lungs. Practically a perfect record.
This is a classic to me. Good all the way through. 5/5
I’ve listened to this about a million times… And the excitement is still there! After listening to it today I went out and bleached my hair, bought a skateboard and one of those awesome shirts with the flames up it, some wraparound Oakley sunglasses and a wallet chain! Fuckin’ fuck yeah!
Excellent punk album. I feel like in a time when punk was becoming to become more poppy with bands like blink and good charlotte these guys stayed a bit more traditional. Lots of good tracks and some of their best.
This is a freaking awesome album. I listened to it tonight and it is a rocker. I knew big chunks of the album and had just forgotten how cool this album is. This is not a back decker with the wife! It is an in your face, run like a bat out of hell screamer that would be great alone for a predate.
One of the very first CDs I ever got was an Offspring single that I won on a tombola in primary school. I hated it at first, but it grew on me a lot over time. By the time I was 15, I was playing Want You Bad in my band. Anyway, I digress. This album is absolutely banging and I love it. It got quite nostalgic listening to it. The Offspring are just great.
THEY'RE COMING THEY'RE COMING THEY'RE COMING YOU NEED TO LOOK NOW GO LOOK LOOK NOW THEY'RE COMING RUN PLEASE NOW GO YOU NEED TO GO
Oh yeah!
This album is definitely in my top picks and have it on wax.
This is my teenage years in a single album.
I am biased and have always loved this album. This one gets a biased 5 stars from me.
Not my favorite Offspring album, but I'd agree that this is their most influential album. As a huge fan of pop-punk in the aughts, I am by default a fan of The Offspring and the road they paved. Side story: I will always remember a van ride with the family circa 1994-5 while my dad was driving and in control of the radio. His preference was 97.5 and 98.5, while my sisters and I preferred 100.7 and 92.3 and 107.9 (although I'm guessing this was before 107.9 was The End). He said "I'll change the station if you can name the artist of one of these songs." We kept guessing, like, Eric Clapton or The Eagles as it was on 98.5 (Cleveland's classic rock), but to no avail. Then they had a commercial trying to make a dig at damn kids these days and what has befallen rock music, but don't worry, we're 98.5, we'll never play that shit. To make their point about terrible modern rock music, they used the intro to "Self-Esteem" that's just "La la lalala, la la lalala" which my sister correctly identified as The Offspring, so we were granted a station change on a technicality. A great win for punk rock. Anyway, I really enjoyed revisiting this album. Beforehand I was thinking it was a 4 with the iconic singles and some filler...but this holds up well in its entirety.
One of the best albums forever!
Probably one of my favorite albums ever, it's just the best. I still think I have my original Smash CD around here somewhere.
It's like happy hour at the punk rock cafe. Yes, I was familiar with The Offspring but have never sat down and listened (which is the point of this right!) and what a delight. It kicks off with such great energy and just keeps it going. Certainly, Genocide, Something to Believe In, and Come Out and Play are highlights but Self Esteem really does take the take. I never considered myself a fan but 5 stars easy.
Big nostalgia bump for this album - my first serious girlfriend was a fan, and then later on, some of the songs were karaoke staples. Fave tracks - "Self Esteem" for getting the whole room to scream along in karaoke. "Genocide" from the other tracks, on these play throughs....
This is my 420th album to review, and while not as on the nose as Peter Tosh's Legalize it would have been, The Offspring's Smash is still a good fit. I'm pretty familiar with a lot of The Offspring's work from the nineties (and some of their hits from the aughts); I had a burned copy of Americana that I listened to a lot in high school, and The Offspring was played quite a bit on the local alternative rock station. I also had their song "Want You Bad" as my girlfriend's ringtone at some point in college or my mid-twenties. I still love that song, but Christ, that was cringe-worthy. Punk and pop-punk music were some of my favorite alternative rock to listen to in high school. Blink 182, Green Day, and Sum 41 were probably my favorites, but The Offspring would have been right up there too. I didn't have any CD's by any of these bands (other than the burned copy of Americana), because my parents were very strict about any music that I bought, but that just made hearing songs by these bands on the radio that more special. In the late aughts, I got really into indie rock, and at that point, I had the belief that alternative rock was 'beneath me' (hey, we all have a period in our lives where we act kinda douchey), but I'm excited to listen to these guys for the first time in a while. I was not expecting to enjoy this album as much as I did. I thought this was fantastic from start to finish. The drumming and guitar playing were absolutely fantastic; I loved the fast tempo of most of the songs, but the slower songs like "Gotta Get Away" and "Self Esteem" hit just as hard. I love that some of the guitar playing has a Spanish/Mexican sound to it. I don't know how they came up with the idea to use that sound, but it's shocking to me how well it works on a nineties punk album. Dexter Holland's vocals are great, and there's just something about his voice that I love; I think he does a great job of conveying anger and disillusionment without having to yell or resort to gimmicks. Dexter's voice is really unique, and it's one of the things that makes The Offspring's music stand out from their contemporaries. Lyrically, this album is fantastic as well. These songs tackle so many topics: homelessness, militarism, mental health, relationships, etc. The political commentary is absolutely fantastic. I think a lot of people my age look at America in the nineties as having been a pretty docile time, but there was still so much going on: the public acknowledgment of the AIDS crisis, civil wars and uprisings taking place across the globe, gay rights moving to the forefront of the national conversation, and rises in gun violence. The nineties were a time of prosperity in our country, and culture tended to be more monolithic before the rise of the internet, so it's easy to ignore or forget about people who were suffering during that time. The Offspring manages to address all of the issues that they sing about in a way that feels really genuine. I really loved listening to this today, and this album has given me a new appreciation for The Offspring. This album is a work of genius, and despite its heavy tone, it's really fun to listen to, and it holds up really well thirty years (fuck me) later. The punk sound that The Offspring created on this album is really unique and perfectly captures the spirit of the decade. I wish I had owned a copy of this as a teeanger, but I'm certainly tempted to pick one up now.
I know many of the songs and never realized they were from this album. Excellent! It’s a refined punk grunge, much like what Metallica did to speed metal with their black album.
Pop punk :O .... but it's actually good !!! :O.
I gotta say, Smash was an album i really enjoyed from start to finish. The guitar work was easily my favorite part of it but the Nirvana like singing, the quick pace and the neat little melodies in certain songs really added to it. The bonus track didn't really add that much to the album but it was still a harmless little addition. I really like this album and its one that any punk or grunge enjoyer would love. Best Song: Something To Believe In Worst Song: What Happened To You
This one is an incredible pop-punk album that takes me back to high school
Le premier album d'Offspring que j'ai écouté quasiment à sa sortie, je devais être au lycée.
This was, by far, the most nostalgic album recommended by the 1001 app so far. I loved "Smash" when I was a kid. I was hooked on it. I listened to this CD from start to finish as much as any record I've ever owned. It never got old. Listening to it today, it hits just the same. This album is awesome. Every song rocks - the guitars sound great, the drumming is memorable, and the vocals are easy to sing along with, due to Dexter Holland's catchy lyrics & limited singing range. It's a legendary album that ranks amongst the best of the 90s. It's a shame that The Offspring followed this triumph by releasing some of the lamest pop punk bollocks ever written. The unquestionable brilliance of "Smash" was quickly overshadowed by the embarrassment of "Pretty Fly for a White Guy" and that "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" ripoff. They became a parody of a punk band and faded away. Rightfully so. But who cares? The Offspring gave us "Smash". It's a classic. And I fucking love them for it. 👍👍
I'm biased, because I love it since my teenage years. Straight road for The Offspring from here to the mainstream success with Americana couple of years later.
Great album, remember from back then.
Not their epic, though most think this one exactly is, still got too many bangers to count a star off
Just super
Love the hidden track so 90s
A true force in the commercial punk scene, aggressive songwriting and hard-hitting melodies.
Alright. Great album for gym sessions.
Offsprinf kyllä osaa tän 90 luvun skeittipunkki meiningin. Aivan legendaarista soundia. Parhaat: Come Out And Play, Self Esteem, What Happened To You?
loved it
What an amazing album, I loved every second of it.
This is basically my entire 14-17 year old life.
This album unleashes an energy that is hard to find in rock music. It is raw and harsh. I’ve listened to this album a ton and it is amazing every time. Highlights include Bad Habit, Come Out and Play, Self Esteem, and Be a Long Time.
Easy 5. 1994 was an amazing year for great music across all genres.
Die 90er sind ja das Jahrzent mit der objektiv besten Musik
I still enjoy this album and it took me back to ‘94. I added a few songs to the playlist I am making from this list. No, they are the most innovative but they had a great sound and are fun to listen to. This was teenage driving music and honestly still sounds great to me. It’s a 4.5 for me so rounding up.
It's pretty crazy how you start the album and the bangers just keep coming, so you wait for the quality to dip, and it never does. Not a weak song on here, everything is just top tier fun punk. Maybe the silence at the end is a bit annoying, a leftover from the CD era, but I'd be lying if i said i wasn't bobbing my head and singing along to every single chorus on here. Just earworms back to back.
Fundamental para confirmar o melhor da fase do rock nos anos 90, punk essencial.
I don’t think I’ve listened to this album all the way through since I was in high school - and IM A BIG DUM IDIOT. Such a good album! Put it on during a workout and it was perfection.
Excelente disco
An album from my youth!
9,5
Best selling indie album ever for a reason. 5 stars
Huge shot of nostalgia with this one! The start of the pop punk craze of the 90's. Come Out and Play, Self Esteem, Bad Habit, Gotta Get Away.... Fuckin awesome album. Reminds me of playing Tony Hawk on PS2 as a kid. This album fits into that skater punk genre that that game introduced me to. Dexter Holland's voice is so distinct. Favourite songs: Self Esteem, Come Out And Play, Killboy Powerhead, Gotta Get Away, It'll Be a Long Time, Bad Habit, Genocide, Nitro (Youth Energy) Least favourite songs: Not The One 5/5
Dudeeeeeeeeeee I miss some good ol' Offspring. I listened to Americana as well lol. I would give Smash a 4.5 but I'm going to round up because it convinced me to keep listening to more.
Sensational album, soundtrack of my youth!
Really good 90s rock
кайф спасибо за детство альбом детства
I’d never heard of this band or album before, but it was great. Awesome
All time classic
Quintessential American punk.
Strong album. I remember when this came out. It was good then, it's good now.
It’s really exciting for me to see this album on this list because it’s another one my dad had that, along with rise and fall rage and grace, are pretty nostalgic for me. I’ve listened to this front to back plenty of times but back then I only really listened to bad habit, self esteem, and maybe come out and play. Now, I really appreciate the thing as a whole from skits that aren’t annoyingly long, genocide and nitro, and the electric vibes from this album that never get exhausting at really any point. Might be biased but I still think this 5 is well deserved regardless.
Amazing, relistened multiple times already
I love this album so much. It played such a huge part in my teenage/high school years and bonding over music with people. It is legitimately just banger after banger, and along with Green Day's "Dookie" a perfect encapsulation of what punk music in the mid 90s sounded like as it went mainstream. I will listen to this record on repeat all day today and absolutely love it.
