Reviews (page 4 of 8)

15 minutes! fascinating! that's about all I could take. But if you need 15 minutes of adrenaline and premium punk, this is it.

A quick but loud listen, great way to furiously fold laundry in 15 mins.

Pretty fun listen, so short and snappy

A fun listen for 15 minutes. Some of the songs I liked, others I didn’t care for, the lyrics were for the most part a bit too irreverent for how I tend to like my hardcore punk. 3/5

Lyrics were a miss.

A little hard to rank this one, as it was over so quickly. It was fine, I just didn't really get anything out of it.

I enjoyed reading the Wikipedia page and seeing how many bands I love are max 2 degrees of separation from Circle Jerks (Bad Religion and Rocket From The Crypt being two notable examples). While loving punk, I've never been the biggest hardcore fan. I prefer my music, and specifically the vocals, a bit more melodic. As a result this has ended up fairly middling for me. Instrumentally, I would be around a 4. Vocally we're at a 2. So overall, we're on a 3. 3/5

Short. Very good

Raw, oldschool, great but too simple and basic.

Interesting unique album, thx

Nothing groundbreaking in the world of punk, but they still showed more personality in 15 minutes than most albums on here do in an hour

Didn’t love, but also didn’t hate. Good angry music. 15 minutes was the perfect length, wish more artists knew how to not wear out their welcome.

I've come to learn that I don't particularly care for punk.

This was so dumb that it kinda started to be good. It was pretty fun and it has an appropriate time length as well for a hc punk record. Also the name for the album and the band go hand in hand if you know what I mean..

enjoyable, super fast, extremely stupid, would be super fun to see live. someone else commented it would be ideal music to speed clean your apartment to. haven't listened to any hardcore since college probably and it was kind of fun to come back to.

Good ol fast punk.

catchy ale ttch chaos

Loud, fast, fun. More 15 minute albums please. 3.5⭐️

Skateboarding soundtrack that I'd managed to generate, locate and listen to in its entirely by the end of my morning cuppa. Points for fun, brevity and doing exactly what it sets out to do. No further notes.

The older I get the more I seem to like this type of music. Enjoyable listen while cruising down the highway into the city this afternoon. Mayhem, Chaotic, Raw - just like the drive.

Not my favorite 80s punk record

Short. Sweet. High energy. Solid punk. Loved it.

Fast hardcore. Short, just enough to not get tired of

3 stars for being 14 songs in 16 minutes. Takes me back to my skater days.

An extra point for being 16 minutes long

There’s something to be said for making an album statement in 15 minutes. These dudes were concise and got what they wanted across, no matter the time. Hard to wrap my head around this style and that length, but not bad.

It's like Sabrina Carpenter in a way. Short n Sweet

Niet echt mijn ding, maar je kan eigenlijk enkel maar respect hebben voor een groep dat ervoor kiest om zijn album maar 15 minuten lang te maken. Kort maar krachtig. 3 (maar als we eerlijk zijn maar een 2)

Best Song: Live Fast Die Young. It lyrically mirrors the ethos of the whole album. Worst Song: I Just Want Some Skank. Far too slow for an album of this sort. Overall: I kind of respect that they have 14 songs in 16 minutes. This isn't a band or a sound built for longevity, so why artificially inflate the runtime? That said, it's also not particularly interesting. I will very quickly forget this 16 minutes.

my brain didn’t even register any of that. punk-colored white noise to me. i’m not mad at it but there’s nothing to connect to, for me.

It was short, it was pretentious, it was ok

fun punk record. 3.5.

15 minutes! Though the lyrics were quite basic the production values on this were better than other albums of this genre.

They were important in the hardcore/ thrash scene and in the skateboarding scene. I recognize their place, but I’m just not 16 anymore. Incredible how someone like the Ramones hold up for me but not this. Love their intensity and punk has a special place in my heart, but this is a relic of the past for me and not something I would put on regularly.

15 minute albums are probably the optimal length for hardcore punk. (Shortest album we've had?) I enjoyed for what it was.

6/10… hardcore punk / short tracks / *1980

Angry punks yells at sky.

Sex, drugs, and...annoyance with bureaucracies? 14 songs in about as many minutes, and they're all short, fast, and angry. The songs are either about shocking subject matter or displeasure with the world, but despite that there's a surprising amount of ground covered for such a short album. I bet you didn't expect to hear a song about the benefits of vasectomies on a punk album! Still, musically the songs all just run chords into the ground, and it's genuinely shocking when a song like "I Just Want Some Skank" switches up the progression halfway through. This lack of development hurts the album a bit because some surprises would make the album even more impactful. As it is it's a quick easy listen that leaves me wanting for more creative hardcore punk.

Fast and loose. There’s just not enough for me. I always appreciate this type of abrasiveness without feeling exaggeratedly edgy. I wouldn’t say that it’s apathy, it’s being carefree. This is the freedom to create even when it puts you directly against the majority. Some ideas here don’t feel fully fleshed out or complete, but I think the spirit behind the album carries itself through each song. There’s an undeniable energy that provides considerable momentum. It’s punk. Faves: Operation, Back Against The Wall, World up My Ass

Wow, I wouldn’t say I enjoyed it as in it brought me joy and made me happy, but I was engaged the entire way. Make 15 minute punk albums more of a thing please.

Pretty solid punk album and I enjoyed this although I don't listen to punk very often.

Me gustó, no me pareció increíble. Entiendo que es un disco referente para muchas bandas posteriores.

De er sure og de har travlt!

You know, I took a peek at what punk hardcore albums were included on the list, I was curious, because I thought to myself; there probably isn't that many albums like that on a list like this! Nor should there be. This goes without saying but maybe an early Misfits record would have been good instead of this? Songs to Scream at the Sun? Diaspora Problems? Unsilent Death (not exactly punk hardcore but that would be awesome)? Never really listened to Circle Jerk before, I heard of them I think, I just don't know if this was an influential, important album or not, because this is definitly a hardcore album! And it's hard to really weight in such a short work of music, it was alright for what it was! Back against the wall was my favourite!

Debauched and fun. Probably more remarkable for its release date than anything inherent in the music.

A simple and earnest offering of hardcore punk. The lyrics are straightforward and go super hard against the grain. I can’t say it’s an outstanding piece of work in hardcore but the energy and attitude are certainly there. What I can say is, much like I would bump metalcore before a water polo match, I’ll be bumpin the shit out of Operation to hype me up for my vasectomy.

Album about as long as the name suggests - 15mins. Epitome of punk I guess :D

Straight jorkin it and by it i mean my peantis. 5/10

I appreciate that they don’t waste any time. Punk just really isn’t my thing so this three is less a marker of quality and mostly just personal enjoyment. I had more fun with this one than the Sex Pistols or the Ramones. Is that just cause it’s shorter? Maybe. But I think it’s got a bit more oomph to it as well.

These songs are short!

Hard to fully get anything out of it when it’s just 15 minutes but it was ok I guess, decent punk. 3 stars

Fast, Loud, Short.....as punk should be

Their “here’s an idea, the end” style of songwriting was a nice change of pace! Fourteen songs in fifteen minutes. That’s efficiency right there.

Clocking in at 15 minutes, I had barely started to drink my coffee before it was done. Solid no frills punk.

Weird to think about young Keith Morris without that giant dreadlock...

A 15 min album rules.

in a world with 1000 boring albums with hour long guitar solos and nasally british voices, be the circle jerks

Extremely punk. I'm sure this was an important album, based on release year but it's not an easy listen. The fact that it is only 15 minutes actually turns it around, i was looking at a 2, but the duration and rawness combined i think brings this to a 3 for me.

3.4 3x high power album and fun... shortest that i recall

Yeah it was fine, I was expecting less tbh from the short track lengths. I thought nothing was going to be “fleshed out” enough but all of the songs get right into it and don’t waste a single beat Some entertaining stuff but not a lot that was particularly memorable 3

Favorite Tracks: Dunno these all sounded pretty much the same and it was over before I realized it Rating: 3.0 I like a little more pop/musicality in my punk than this. But, it's fine, I get it as an early example of the genre. I read the Wiki and this quote from Mark Deming pretty much sums it up for me: "As such things go, it's tight, reasonably well played, the songs kinda sorta have hooks, and Keith Morris is a pretty good frontman, but if you're looking for nuance, you're pretty much out of luck.:

Short but interesting.

A little before my time but I can see their influence in bands I group up on.

I was genuinely surprised when I looked at my watch after listening to this album. 14 songs in just over 15 minutes has to be some sort of record, but at no point do you feel short changed. Apparently some versions of the CD repeated the whole track list just to fill up the disc a bit. These are all proper songs, not just identical blasts of thrash music. It’s properly tight punk rock, played as fast as it’s possible to get while still being able to hear what’s going on. Lyrically, things are pretty much as you might expect from a LA hardcore punk band - skateboards, general nihilism and wanking are the main themes. You really can’t go wrong with songs like World Up My Ass, Live Fast Die Young and Deny Everything. The weirdest song by far is the title track which sounds like they are reading out an advert for a swingers club including the phone number! I wonder if any confused and horny punks called this back in the day? Short-song-tastic!

white boy angst

This album was her for a good time, not a long time. It was fun but certainly lacked the depth needed for me to consider this a must listen.

Pushing the limit of Brevity is the Soul of Wit

Correcto

Short, consistent, and to the point. Not my taste but I can't argue with it.

Actually pretty fun. Turns out I like hardcore punk better than just plain ol' punk. It's not making it to my regular rotation, but it was kinda fun to put on.

Sometimes a song only needs to be 30 seconds. Especially when the lyrics are "I've got the world up my ass." 2.6.

This is absolutely not my kind of music, yet it's pleasant enough that it doesn't outstay its welcome. "Red Tape" has amazing drumming though ...

14 songs, 15 minutes, love it

The song-a-minute approach works! Get in, scream, get out. Circle Jerks were one of the best LA punk bands. They were pissed off but they were never annoying - just funny, aggressive and concise.

Misfits of they were not very good. Some songs grew on me, but not soon enough. Liked the album enough, but probably won't revisit it.

Extttra point for influencing the Beastie Boys

14 songs in 15 minutes! That’s punk rock.

Merry Christmas.

Rounding up for album being 16 minutes long. Well done.

Cool. Was a lil unimpressed in the first half but it picked up. I like the energy.

It sounds like garbage and we need more albums like it.

This was fun and short. A little more musicality than I expected. There was even a bit of a guitar solo surprisingly.

This was a really interesting listen. I truly didn't know this punk sound existed in 1980. Many bands I listened to in the 90s were obviously heavily influenced by albums like this.

I’m thoroughly impressed that a band can make a 14 song album that’s hardly 15 minutes long.

not for me, but I respect the 15 minute album so much that I'm giving them an extra point, so punk

Delicious oink sampling delivered in 15 minutes or less

Didn't think it'd be possible to fit 14 songs into 15 total minutes, but here we are. Definitely a mixed bag - some fun punchy punk songs, some that were just 30 seconds of noise. I'll always be an advocate for fleshing out songs more, but not the worst punk album I've heard. Top tracks: I Just Want Some Skank, Beverly Hills, Live Fast Die Young

I’ve never cared about yank hardcore that much. I’ll take my punk Finnish or Japanese instead.

It sure sounds like a punk album

Short but sweet, one of fastest albums ever

I really liked that it was 15 minutes because I could just listen to this album several times. I like punk music and although I did find some of the lyrics to be edgy, I did like the beats. If they change the lyrics, I would have given this album a 4.

Short but powerfull in a strange way. It wasnt really for me but daring to say the least. Felt a little like they cut the second half of every song and made that an album. Wasnt my taste but i can respect what they tried to do.

FUCK THE GOVERNMENT! 7/10

“I don’t want to live to be 34. I don’t want to die in a nuclear war” Surprisingly witty and musically grew on me massively over the course of its short 15 minute runtime. Has a clear and unabashed mantra of anti-establishment anger which it expresses relentlessly both lyrically and through the instrumentation. An intense, angry, and funny quick listen which showcases some of the best of the at the time fledgling American Punk scene.

Short and not sweet, as the authors intended.

Alarm bells ring when you see 14 tracks in 15 minutes. Turns out this is eminently listenable and a stupid good time. Didn't expect that. It's hardcore punk, at least a progenitor of the genre proper, but it's not just a mess. There's musicality here and some solid tunes.

Snotty, urgent - rages then departs swiftly

Great that it was only 15 minutes long. The music is alright, basic punk music but it got to the point and didn't waste my time. I bet you most albums on this list could be only 15 minutes long and it'll be a vast improvement.

Without knowing this band's reputation, I'd classify it as an alternative punk band. I have to say, I find it rather charming. Shout it out and go.

Punk from the first second. Short bursts of energy, like rapid fire that lands a punchline. GO!

By 1980 this kind of punk music must have been a bit passe. Nonetheless, this 15 minute album (is it the shortest album in this list?) was pretty rousing and good fun, but not I think a great album. It's not one I'll likely return to.

There's better punk

Very similar to a lot of the 90s skater punk. Surprised nothing from this album is on a Tony Hawk soundtrack

Shortest album in history?

Not the worst, pretty punchy punk

This is an insane album of course, but it honestly executes what it sets out to do very well. There’s some interesting drumming here especially, even if they sound a bit muted in the recording. Even at 15 minutes it’s not super inviting to revisit unless this is your sort of thing, but it’s a solid and unique punk album that is still like more than Sex Pistols

I think the best thing i can say - is the songs are short.

Was the short duration a metaphor? The music was pretty bad, but it made me laugh.

This was cool. Never heard of them before, 14 songs in 15 minutes is CRAAAZY work. 3.5/5

I think it deserves its place on the list, but I’m not a ‘fan’ as such 3/5

Jeg skriver det samme som jeg gjorde med Black Flag jeg. Overraskende kult for å være punk!

Fun thought it was ass at first

Ok punk

Some of these were pretty good but I'm confused why they're so short. Anyhow, Beverly Hills and Live fast die young are fucking jams

Couldn’t get through

Loud and Angry, all punk, not very musical

College sounds call me back.

A good hardcore punk album. Wasn't expecting this. I like punk, but typically listen to random songs as they pop up on random. Not sure I'd listen to the whole album again, but I'm good with the songs popping up now and again.

Was a fun listen not gonna lie -- an exhilarating 15 min sprint through rough and rowdy terrains

I liked this better than the Germs record, which is another 'landmark' hardcore punk album predating this one by a year or so. To me, this collection has more of a POV, has some humor and better playing. 14 songs scorching through 15 minutes - pretty classic stuff!

It only being 15 minutes really helps. But yeah, standard hardcore punk. Not a ton to say other than to me, it's fine.

So much yelling about everything. They were all short and moved into one another very well, sometimes I didn't even realize it was a different song because they transitioned so well. But that was also kind of an issue for me because it just felt like someone was on meth and just ranting and raving, skipping from topic to topic so quickly it was hard to keep up with them. In terms of the guitar and drums, they were great (really liked guitar in red tape) and fit hardcore edgy punk. For me it was the lyrics that really fell apart, it was very young adolescent and not super deep (and the erractiness). I didn't hate the short album concept, they said what they needed and wanted to say in 15 minutes so why drag on.

This wasn’t terrible. Bonus points for it being incredibly short. And who doesn’t need a good 15 minute angst session every now and again? But also, it wasn’t great, so I’m confused about what to rate this. It was catchy enough in parts I guess, and interesting enough too. Ok fine, a 3.

Pure dogshit in the best way possible.

Kind of fun but also bonkers.

Primal proto punk, pretty intense, actually enjoyed it

I liked it, comically short though

One can handle anything for 15 minutes. Not a Punk fan but this was tolerable.

Good, but not excellent.

High energy that won me over by the end. Just barely didn't overstay it's welcome. Hit the Over on .5 songs about vasectomies.

So brief it’s hard to come up with something to say about it. It was good, but I can’t imagine myself putting this on again. Favorites: Beverly Hills, Back Against the Wall, Group Sex

14 songs and 15 minutes long.. fuck yeah

This is a fun mini album. It’s so short it was my entire playlist for a 2km run. Nihilist punk rock is paradoxically a fun time. I really like Greg Hetson as a guitar player. I miss him in Bad Religion.

Boys, boys, slow down. Take a breath. Now tell papa what's wrong.

Fourteen songs that blow their load in fifteen minutes—impressive stamina this is not, but at least they were enthusiastic about it.

UK punk wins against USA punk all day every day.

Love punk music, but like a lot of earlier hardcore stuff this just sorta washed over me. I do love an economical punk album (Bad Religion's "No Control" being the epitome of the form). No song over 2 minutes, the whole album is only like 15 minutes. Vocals are fine, musicianship is good, but they lack the something extra that some of the other hardcore greats (Minor Threat, Husker Du, Black Flag) have. Not sure what this is, but it's not there. Album leads to a great shuffle afterwards, FWIW.

Short and sweet.

Not my favorite but sure it sounds like it was influential

80/1001 Circle Jerks - Group Sex Heard before? ❎ Revisit? ✅ Normalise 15 minute albums!

Not as good overall as the Minor Threat I heard the other day, but still fun, and very true to that period's punk style.

I appreciate it for what it is, but I'm not a big fan of punk.

Can you give zero stars ?!?

15 minutes is optimal for punk records.

Fast and furious debut hardcore punk album. Even with 14 tracks, runtime can't get any shorter (15 min) but it's fun while it lasts. Standout is "Live Fast Die Young".

The raw energy in this album is truly great, conveying a youthful sound that perfectly captures what they wanted to express in the time they allotted for the song. No song dragged, and the album perfectly suited the rally stage I was driving on when listening to it. Nothing groundbreaking, but it was refreshing.

14 songs in 16 minutes! It’s a quick, hardcore pink rip through LA.

Quintessential punk rock. There was a time in my life where I would have insisted that this was brilliant. I have less angst now, probably important. Still, a walk down memory lane. I still dig it, but these days I insist that the energy comes with something a little more interesting, except the Ramones, they get a hall pass.

Enjoyable punk with average 90s goregrind song lenghts. Good for sitting on a toilet for 15 minutes.

Pretty much what you'd expect from classic punk music. Short, sharp, and to the point. It's not my scene but I respect it.

Not my thing but it gets an extra star for being 15 minutes long

loud, fast, brash. and 14 songs in just over 15 minutes. everything you could want in a hardcore album.

This album instantly takes me back to a friend group I had in high school. I’d just come back from a year in Canada and didn’t really belong anywhere until I met them. They were (in Serbia we call them) the “metalci”—the punk/metal crowd—and I couldn’t have looked more out of place, a total Barbie among them. But they turned out to be the most interesting, soft-spoken, and non-judgmental people I’ve ever met. My first drunk nights were with them, first time witnessing a mosh pit too, and they always made sure us girls felt safe. My listening journey went like this: First listen: wtf, why are you yelling, man? Second listen: okay, this actually isn’t that bad. Third listen: perfect music for a drive to work. Now I can’t help but admire how much energy is packed into these 15 minutes of pure yelling.

being 34 really isn't that bad

Ah reminds me of the days when I used to go to live shows

Regular punk

Not typically a punk fan, but this was fast and to the point. The bigots on this list will be the people who praise this album in one breath, and say Heaux Tales isn't an album because it's "only 32 minutes" in the other. Anyway, pretty good punk. 3/5

Punk does a lot that a lot of other genres don’t. And that’s put across your message in less than 2 mins. It’s the helicopter view of music. Appreciate the history of it, but it’s never been the kind of album I just put on unless I’m in the gym

Album 868 of 1089 Circle Jerks - Group Sex (1980) Rating : 2.75 / 5 17 tracks of hardcore punk crammed into 15 minutes. If you’re not expecting it, it might be over before you’ve figured out what just happened. Not exactly an exercise in musical precision, but it’s pure punk fun from start to finish. Loud, fast, and unapologetic, with gems like “I Just Want Some Skank” and “World Up My Ass” leading the charge. It’s the kind of record that blows in like a fistfight and leaves you grinning when the dust settles. Punk fans—whether casual or hardcore—will find something to love here. Nice hit of energy for the day. Let's make 15 minute albums a thing.

No real talent, but also not trying to be anything other than what it is. There’s something to be said about a punk album being only 15 minutes long.

Enjoyed listening to this but there better hardcore records out there

Off the cuff remark: nothing subtle here, sometimes that is just what's needed. An enjoyable blast of 80s US punk. Standout track: Wasted and World Up My Ass Revisit?: quite possibly when those cobwebs need blowing away.

I just wish it was longer

It's the short one I thought it was fun, though it's been washed away a little in a sea of similar-sounding bands

7.7 ★★★½

I'm not a huge fan of this style of hardcore punk, but it's kind of a fun album. 3 stars.

big bangers

It was fine enough, I don't really have any strong opinions on it

Went to see these guys play this album in full ata show but missed the whole thing queueing at the bar

Influential for sure, but I always found the Circle Jerks to be a bit boring compared to their peers. All the ingredients are there, but it suffers a bit from being the first of its kind. MDC and a league of other bands do 15 minute straight to the point hardcore albums better.

This album is just like group sex: not as long as you wish it would be

Quite cool hardcore punk. When I have enough time I like to make a coffee and listen to my daily album before starting work and i can't think of any other time I've finished said beverage before the album! This is shorter than a lot of EPs It's very punchy and with great energy. Not sure it gets going enough for me to want to listen again but it's decent

Beeba - 7 Lowlow - 7

Circle Jerks is classic hardcore punk. Only one song hits the 90 second mark and many are under 1 minute. All songs are very fast and very agressive. Doesn't do anything unique really but has some good songs like World Up My Ass, Live Fast Die Young and Back Against The Wall. Will be of interest if you're in to hardcore punk but will be unlikely to bring any new fans. 3/5 (would he 7)

15 минут альбом это прикол. я в целом понимаю, что они хотели этим сказать и наверное сделали это круто в рамках жанра, но это вообще не моя история.

The production is something to behold here. If you wanna even call it that. Quite bemusing that the TRUST Edition of this album that I listened to actually has some demos as bonus tracks. Wait, the album wasn't just demos already? You can clearly hear that in terms of rawness and lyrical subjects, Circle Jerks were a major influence on Turbonegro specifically. What else can I say... Everything's very much getting straight to the point here. If the main message is that you don't care, why spend more than 35 seconds of song on it?

Reasonable punk, however at 15m the album is too short

They weren't messing around

Det är ganska bra men samtidigt är det svårt att göra en rimlig bedömning när det är 14 låtar med en total speltid på 15 minuter.

Fun. Found myself bopping along. Wonder what these shows would have been like live.

Classic example of what punk is supposed to be. I was clearly in the right mood for this.

Dad- 1 Mom- 4 Mike- NA Lori- 8 Michael- 7.5 Miles- 8 Cole- 9.5 Avg- 6.33

This is the dictionary definition of punk. Fast, loud and rude. But I don't like punk. Never have done. I used to hate it when I was younger and my dad used to play it. Now that I'm older with my own more refined music tastes, I still don't like it. It just chugs away relentlessly and it just does nothing for me. I will say though, this is mercifully short, clocking in at just under 16 minutes long. There are also some very nice drum fills and some decent guitar work. The vocals are alright too. I mean they're not amazing but they fit perfectly with the music. If you want 15 minutes of aggressive music before you start to get the arse with it, this is the album for you. I'm actually going to give this a three because of how short it is and I'd rather stick this on for a quarter of an hour than I would listen to any of the two star ratings I've given. Also because this really really leans into hardcore punk. This album knows what it is and doesn't give a shit whether you like it or not.

Not for me, but I made it all the way through. Only 15 minutes long despite having 14 songs?

Fun album that's gone before you know it

Not my favorite from this genre, but still easy enough to digest and *fantastic* drumming. 3.5/5

It was like if punk was in the dictionary, its straight up punk. Fun to listen to, fundamentally agree with all of it so thats fun.

14 songs, 16 minutes - I love punk music. This record provides some in-your-face, energetic and gutter sounds. I dig the degenerate and debauchery content. Can't say I've been familiar with Circle Jerks before this record, but I like them now.

-this was a fun one! def the shortest album ive gotten on here by far, I believe -i’d say it’s pretty standard fare for hardcore punk. similar to Black Flag in a lot of ways but didn’t really stand out to me in the same way? it’s definitely best appreciated as a single album experience rather than for any individual track imo -Favorites are Beverly Hills and World Up My Ass

as expected with such name for a band and their album... craaazay

shortest album i’ve ever heard, heavy punk rock, could imagine listening to this album while in a blind rage

Really wasn’t as bad as i was expecting honestly. Didn’t love it but definitely liked it more than I thought I would. Overall: 3/5

Listened to this 1.25 times on my afternoon commute after finishing something else. Surprisingly varied for a such a narrow format.

listened to it like 4 times, it was good

I have to stan a fifteen minute album. Could have listened to another ten minutes for sure. 3.5?

Not a big fan of punk but this album was pretty good.

this was actually hilarious

The musical equivalent of a demolition derby! I would like to use this album to show that the short form, hyper aggressive, “low attention span” art has been around long before the advent of tiktok. I’m gonna say that “Wasted” is the quintessential song to go listen to on this one, as it encapsulates the ethos of it all, and is also self-reflective. But if you can’t stomach a 15 minute album, you’ve got bigger issues. Some problematic language lowers the listening experience a bit, it’s otherwise a vicious and sometimes fun listen! 3/5

Bonus points for being the shortest album I’ve ever heard and I also only want a skank

Não sou o maior fã de hardcore punk. 70/100

hell yea

A good glimpse at the past.

Good energy. Efficient. Not much substance.

I didn’t much get into this on the first listen through, but given it’s only 15 mins long I listened to it another time, and then again and again. More albums should get to the point quickly like Group Sex. It reminded me that I am filled with just-below-the-surface rage. Maybe one day I’ll let it all out and sound like this album, all shouty and crude and fast and fucken pissed off. I hope so.

Quite abrasive but was over quickly so that was in its favour. Initially thought Spotify was doing a strange preview system until we actually looked more into it... An interesting idea. Not a big fan of punk though.

This is definitely a hardcore album. I salute them for making it 15 minutes which is the same amount of time many albums over stay their welcome. I also appreciate its bratty provocativeness. Every once in awhile I heard some melody for a few seconds. I will likely never listen to this again but glad I did.

Not a bad copy of the uk punk scene from a few years earlier.

Great example of early punk.

Very short

“You know I have the world up my ass!” What else can you say? By eating a high fiber diet and drinking king lots of water that could help eliminate that level of constipation. Kidding aside, this was a solid American punk album right at the fall of the British Punk Movements short life. It carried the flag after the Pistols were gone. It’s interesting listening to the musicality which is better, and comparing it to the lyrics, which focus on more American issues of gun violence and opulence. It says a lot about our great country. This may be the shortest album of the day so far at 15 min. You can hear a lot of ‘90s punk influence here, and I think it’s safe to say they led the hardcore movement with DRI, MOD and others. Key song: Operation, which is kind of a profound look at America’s obsession with quick fixes. This is not going to be in a constant rotation but it’s definitely deserving of the list.

I was really excited when I saw how short this album was and each song was about a minute long. Overall, nothing exciting happened throughout this album - each song was pretty much the same and had this generic sound for that kind of music where the music is playing in the background and the singer just talks about stuff, but there is no good rhythm, so it's a bit meh.

Not a huge hardcore fan, but I actually enjoyed it. I doubt I'll go back a lot, but it was a quick listen.

meio besta demais né mas não é ruim

🎧14 songs in 15 minutes and lyrics like “I’ve got the whole world up my ass.” 👍🏻👍🏻

14 songs, 15 minutes, the punkest of the punk. It was solid overall.

Rating: 3.5/5 | Favorite Track: Live Fast Die Young --- Not my favorite hardcore album but I respect the breakneck speed at which the band performs this record. Each track feels like an attempt to be faster and more aggressively in-your-face than the last. A fun listen!

Short, to the point. Feels hard for me to be too critical

I don't think I understood a single word but it honestly wasn't too bad. Pretty standard punk and I appreciated that it was just 15 minutes long.

Short, sweet, aggressive songs with no brakes. This one ripped, like a punk version of Reign in Blood...(or is RiB a thrash version of Group Sex???) Edit: Group Sex was way earlier lol I breathe a sigh of relief every time I get an album that's shorter than 40 minutes lol

Sometimes you just want a record where people say what they wanna say and leave. This > a 30 track skit laden album anyday. The lyrics could be better though 😂

Its the Circle Jerks. Is what it is.

норм. подойдёт для пьяной драки с бомжами)

Fun, fast, leaves you wanting more. Great punk album.

Circle Jerks' "Beverly Hills" > Weezer's "Beverly Hills"

Man, that was fun. 3.5 stars.

Deny Everything - 3/5 I Just Want Some Skank - 4/5 Beverly Hills - 4/5 Operation - 4/5 Wasted - 2/5 Behind The Door - 4/5 World Up My Ass - 4/5 Paid Vacation - 4/5 Don't Care - 3/5 Live Fast Die Young - 5/5 What's Your Problem - 3/5 Group Sex - 3/5 Red Tape - 4/5 Total: 3.6/5 (rounding down) can't find much to say about this except that it's fun and high-energy while also being concise. the fact that it's only like 15 minutes is actually kinda impressive

Talk about concise. A good bit of this is great in short bursts. And that is as it should be. Unless you're actually in the mosh pit--don't take a break or you'll miss everything.

While this is not my preferred style or approach to music, I've got a soft spot for this as it hearkens to high school, and my particular affection for the movie Repo Man. I also always found the name of the band funny. Epitomizes what they're all about. A bonus: the drummer is really good. So that was fun. Maybe not quite ready to say I liked the album, but it made me smile, so that's a plus.

Good length. Has a good amount of Chad songs for being a punk album.

Extremely chad album length

L O U D

Standard

Lets goooooooooooooo only 15 minutes The album itself isn't anything to great, reminded me of the Apocalypse Dudes album. But very pleased with the length.

I hope someone puts one of these in the music league for short songs

Respect

Shortest album ever that has 15 tracks. Of course its punk.

15 minute album real? Fleeting, but I had fun listening to it. Bruising and curt. I'd listen again.

I didn't dislike it in any way, but nothing really made it stand out either. Was excited by the 15-minute album length, and actually think it is an appropriate duration for this kind of music.

The most punk punk album. Short sweet and to the point, I still don’t like punk but I appreciate and respect this album. Plus the first song is great legal advice which gets it an extra star

This is probably better live

Punkiest 16 min album I've ever heard

#482. Short, sweet, and to the fucking point. 3/5: hell yeah

14 songs in 15 minutes ! American punk, not bad actually.

So much energy... And lyrics in the case of Circle Jerks! I didn't think I knew the band but I had definitely heard and enjoyed "Beverly Hills" before. It took me back to my teenage years and I loved it.

Interessante punk/hardcore. 15 minutos kkk live fast, die young.

Kind of an album I've always wanted to make. A minute a song. No messing. Loud. No breaks. Fun

The soundtrack of my youth as I skateboarded all around the ditches of Dallas. And while I think their later efforts are better (Golden Shower of Hits from ‘83 and Wonderful from ‘85) this album still deserves some credit in the overall punk hardcore scene. Seeing them live again in 2024 as part of a triple bill that also featured The Descendants and The Adolescents was both cool…and somewhat sad, as they were just dialing it in while the Descendants didn’t miss a beat.

Raw, aggressive, unapologetic…play fast and put your middle finger up in between songs. 14 songs and 15 minutes is quite hilarious. Maybe that’s the point. 2.75 and fuck you.

Was simple and good fun.

Very short punk album, some songs were quite interesting and there was some good instrumentation at parts. Stand-out: Behind the Door

Back in high school, I was always titillated by their name, but never really listened to them (outside of their brief appearance in the "Repo Man" soundtrack) and was pretty sure I wouldn't really enjoy an undistinguished SoCal punk band. (I didn't know until reading about the album that the frontman was formerly with Black Flag, but that doesn't really change much about my impressions or opinion, I'm afraid.) This album confirms all of that, but I'm also very thankful and appreciative that we only got an EP sampling of them on this album. Nothing particularly interesting on the album, but it's hard to be particularly annoyed when no song lasts more than 90 seconds, so that helps them make the 3-star grade (that and the fact that this is the only Circle Jerks we have to listen to).

Just the sort of thing that can infuriate but why not. Some of these 14 songs have potential and whether they couldn’t be arsed or because they were making a statement isn’t the point. It’s what it is.

Would make a great soundtrack for someone trying to speed run Tony Hawk Pro Skater

I mean it's alright, but really? 15 minutes? I can barely form my thoughts on the songs when they're already over in a minute

Finally, an album that respects my time!

Gotta admire being able to fit 14 songs onto a 15min record. Short, angry and sweet.

Lol 14 songs, 15 min 53 seconds. Let's fucking go. I Just Want Some Skank is great -- the drum work especially stands out. Reminds me a bit of a stripped down Institutionalized by Suicidal Tendencies in the way that it goes back and forth in the tempo so dramatically toward the end. Really like the bleed into Beverly Hills. Live Fast Die Young is a pretty solid rallying cry / anthem for punks of the time who were watching the cold war play out. I don't want to live til 34; don't want to die in a nuclear war. I don't want to live til 43; I don't like what I see going on around me. Just get fucked up... Drums on Red Tape are phenomenal. Its no wonder these songs only last 90 seconds at tops -- the dude is running 100 mph hitting crazy tight fills in between breakneck rhythm sections. On a two listens, this was really quite solid. Not the best hardcore punk I've ever heard, but serviceable at the very least. Drums are the highlight, but the frontman has enough energy to carry things and the guitar work was fine. I'd say it lacks a specific energy to call me back quickly, but I enjoyed it while it was playing. 7.7 territory -- going high 3.

Hahahaha wtf is this. 14 songs in 15 minutes??? This has to be the shortest album on this list I'm guessing. I take longer pisses than some of the songs on here. Not a terrible thing. If I'm gonna listen to some hardcore punk I prefer it to be short and raunchy like this. For that I will go midway. World Up My Ass is a jam.

You gottta love an album of fourteen songs clocking in at fifteen minutes, twenty-five seconds. https://open.substack.com/pub/richcain/p/project-1001-group-sex-by-circle?r=4ztyq&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true

My jaw literally dropped when I saw the length of this. I'm not a big fan of hardcore punk but this is how you do hardcore punk right

Meh. Was good punk, but most of this kind of punk all sounds pretty much the same to me.

I love hardcore and the Circle Jerks, while up there with the greats, just aren't as good as some of the other ones

The dead milkmen listened to this. I'm sure of it.

This is fine, and it’s probably the shortest album on the list, which is nice. Goofy name though

Short lil hardcore banger, I think music like this is best kept short

It doesn't have great musical proficiency, but what do you expect from a 15-minute punk album? It's not at all bad.

I like this! A short sharp shock. The lyrics are sharp, socially aware and funny too. Beverly Hills is good, World up My Ass is genius 🤣 1980 so fairly early for US punk. Bet they influenced loads of others including Green Day.

Albumi #96, 01.11.2024 Circle Jerksin esikoisalbumi vuodelta 1980. Kelpo punkia.

amazing band name to be frank

Too long

I couldn’t tell you what the shortest album I’ve had so far is. But I don’t think I’d be wrong in saying nothing has been shorter than 25 minutes. Generally I feel it’s the opposite. Most often I complain about something being too long. I don’t know if I’ve ever had an issue with a record being too short. Now, 15 minutes is definitely different. I can’t think of any other album I’ve heard as short as this. It was kind of nice to not be bogged down by some massive double album that’s over an hour long. Even with the short, but favorable run time, it is still a punk record. So I didn’t go in with any large expectations. I haven’t had the best track record with the genre. A lot of the early punk albums I’ve heard feel more like a subsidiary of late 70s hard rock. And albums like Never Mind the Bollocks Here's the Sex Pistols, which are so engrained into the ethos of the culture, never did much for me. But I’ve noticed when things get angrier and a little more aggressive, my interest is piqued. Hardcore punk is what I look for in this genre. Punk is usually meant to mean something, and having whatever that meaning may be shouted at me in barely comprehensible ways really cranks up the effectiveness to eleven. It actually caused me to have a really interesting discovery. Because before, I wasn’t sure if this fast-paced, quick and to the point format would be enough for me. But I found it really surprising how much they are able to condense into such a short amount of time. I mean, some of these songs don’t even reach the forty second mark. And in order to write short songs that good, you have to be able to play music in such a short form well. And all around the performances here are good. Not the best punk album I’ve ever heard, but a short and sweet effort that I welcome. Rating: 6/10

Reminds me of Short Music for Short People, which funnily enough I was discussing with a random NOFX fan in the pub on Friday. Fun, but nothing here lives especially long in the memory.

I think there are ultimately two types of people who are attracted to punk rock. The first feels alienated by society because they exist at the margins, socially, economically, politically, and the attitude is freeing as it is cathartic. The second person is also alienated, mostly because they’re an asshole and people don’t like being around them. Circle Jerks hewn much closer to this second person. Let’s write a song about sleeping with a skank so our parents don’t think we’re gay! Cool. They use a different word too. Neat. They do have a song about getting a vasectomy. That’s kinda cool. Also the very prescient Paid Vacation! Group Sex even is surprisingly…not a joke song, like sure if you’re into swinging go nuts. But man. I dunno. I get a real repellant vibe from these dudes. They remind me of the dude who would throw a punch in the mosh pit, who smelled awful, and flirted with underage girls. That’s not fair and I’m not accusing them. It just reminds me of that guy

Interesting that last week on the Reddit group someone asked if this is the shortest album on the list and I believe the answer is yes. Now it pops up today! It was recommended to listen to It twice back to back so I did. No song goes past 1:35 so it's all short and to the point. That's good in a way. So yeah this wasn't terrible but still not my thing and probably never revisit but for what it is and hopes to "accomplish" it works. Now back to my regular programing of bands playing a single song longer than this whole thing

I enjoyed this. 14 songs in 15 mins. What's not to love!
