Interesting grindcore. Better than I thought

I liked the second half of this more than the first when the tempo slowed slightly. This style of metal singing does absolutely nothing for me and I'd have preferred them as instrumentals in all honesty. I enjoyed the blast beats and chugging guitar riffs. Am I going to listen to this again? Probably not. Am I glad it exists? Yes

Beetje hard, maar wel een goed album!

Not really my type of music, but the lyrics (despite the vocalist’s often incomprehensible ramblings) serve some meaning that makes it a standout album in my opinion. 3.1/5. Favorite/Least Favorite: I have no opinion on my favorite or least favorite tracks of this album.

A little hard to pin down

I've been looking forward to getting this one, based on the reviews on the site. It really isn't as bad as people say! Obviously the lyrics are impossible to comprehend - even when reading along with them it's hard to hear individual words. But musically it is very well put together. I did prefer the first half though, the second half was a bit rougher and apparently performed by basically a different band. It was definitely groundbreaking and influential too. Honestly, I'd say this was more interesting and engaging than about 10-15% of the 300+ albums I've gotten so far.

intense! I think I'd describe the vocals as 'dogs barking', reminded me a lot of Slayer's classics. Good to jam to and get the Tuesday frustrations out!! It sounded like the drummer was having a blast, I bet these songs would be really cathartic to play on drums. 3.5*

3. I love it. It's definitely different and unique but wow

Een hoop kwaadheid gebundeld in heel korte nummer. Zo kort dat je zou twijfelen of ze zichzelf wel serieus nemen. Maar muzikaal is dit best wel oké

Grindcore has always been hit or miss for me, but I've always preferred the later sounds of the genre. I enjoyed it while listening, but I don't think I'd revisit this album. 3/5

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Some I enjoyed more than others, such as The Kill, Scum, Human Garbage, and C.S.

definitely an experience. i don’t know how often i would revisit other than when i wanna get pumped to throw a garbage can through a starbies window

Not my cup of joe

Hardcore meets extreme thrash, throwing in demonic growling vocals likely influenced by contemporary death / black metal bands at the time. What we have is grindcore, notorious for very fast highly repetitive riffs (that are often groovy) and blast beats (being spammed by a swarm of various percussions). Out of 28 tracks, only 3 of them are over 2 minutes. And yet, as overwhelming they can be at first, I can pick out the riffs pretty well paying attention to it. It's a lot of fun, especially the super weird ones like "Moral Crusade", but I do think it loses its charm in the latter half, and 33 minutes might actually be too long for this format.

This album is important because it's basically the birth of grindcore so I understand why it's included here, but the fact is that they've made much better albums right after that one.

This is genius and innovative, but grindcore is suppose to be kind of bad isn't it? There were better albums to come, but thanks to Scum for starting the mess.

Gilfoyle used “you suffer” in the Silicon Valley episode for the crypto notification and that was hilarious. This album however is not hilarious it is pretty brutal/loud. I’d have to be in the right mood for it but it’s good

Half of it was great.

duhduhduhduhduhduhduhduhduhduhduhduhduhduhduhduh bangbangbank roarAAAAARRRRRRroarROOAAAAAAARRRRRRRRR

I didn't understand a single word from this album. The music is repetitive and straight noise. I don't really know why it's on this list. BUT... I know why this kind of music is needed. It doesn't have a high musical value or any of that artistic things. But it's so much fun for a band to play it. Just imagine being one of the members and playing the tracks. It's hella fun. Also great album cover.

whoa. 3 stars.

Okay, don’t brush this one off immediately, like I nearly did. Is it a great album? No. But I think a case can be made for having it on this list. It is pretty groundbreaking for metal music. I might be wrong, but I don’t think anyone had ever done blast beats before this. It’s nowhere near as melodic as popular metal of the time (Metallica, Megadeath, etc.) but it’s LEAGUES more technically proficient. I won’t say I enjoyed it, because honestly the shock, glamour, value, whatever you want to call it, wears off pretty quickly, but I would recommend anyone looking to expand horizons a bit listen to it. It’s an important piece of music filled with history and a subculture of its own.

This was a definite case of enjoying reading up on the band and it’s importance more than listening to said band’s output, but it’s certainly worth your time, especially if you have an interest in the history of metal.

Did not really like it then. Do not like it now.

Those who are not ready for grindcore will have a rough one of this. That being said, I hear elements of Motorhead in this, just way, way faster. I thought I didn't like the production on the first half of the record, but it ironically gets noticeably worse in the second half. Just happy to hear some more metal on this list, especially from a genre that you'd never actually expect. Favorite tracks: "Scum", "Siege of Power", "Control"

Ok, so grindcore. Either you hate it, or you're at least a little damaged yourself. But there's a lot to appreciate here. I truly hate the vocals of this style, but otherwise it's clearly so influential. Musicians very skilled and precise. Anyway, glad I listened but I will not return to anything longer than the track "You Suffer."

crucial album in the early days of grindcore, this album is critical of conservatism, capitalism, and religious dogma. with the short songs, fast beats, and politically charged lyrics it can be considered a really heavy punk record. good stuff.

This is much more where I am today. Some grindcore with death and doom notes. Not bad. I did not need 27 songs of it.

A nice smooth album to listen to on a quiet night.

Always great to hear some death metal

I actually really enjoyed listening to this by the end. Made me laugh out loud at moments. Probably wouldn’t listen again. when I listen to super heavy music, I like the production and performance to be a little better. Drums sounded real shitty. But the guitars were kind of cool.

This seems like a time-and-place kind of album. I'm sure when it was released it was revolutionary, but it doesn't really hold up with how much Napalm Death have evolved over the years, let alone grind core as a genre in general. There were a couple of songs that were bangers for sure, and You'll Suffer cracks me up every time, but as a whole it's not a grind album I'm going to choose to go back to often.

This is just ok. I know it's important, but I wouldn't choose to turn this on, myself. It's sad, because new Napalm Death albums really rule. The last decade or so is just banger after banger. 2.5/5

Better than expected, I especially enjoyed the lyrics.

this shit is ridiculous. the screaming on this one sounds like barking. not my go-to for metal but i appreciate the musicianship. “you suffer” is the shortest song i’ve seen. kinda gotta love it. maybe i’ll like it better upon returning to it in the future

Not crazy about this album, but I liked the sound well enough. Felt pretty intentionally one-note, if that makes sense.

I am that guy’s goth friend and just like them, 3 stars. Lots of shouting and don’t know what to look at

Well I wouldn't exactly call this great or anything I'd listen to in my free time, but I got a lot of enjoyment out of it, because it's funny as fuck and never boring. This is basically like baby sensory play for metalheads. Focus on the funny noises. This is the noise a bear makes. What is this one? Right, that's a duck! You're a smart cookie, Xthipsthorfth the Scourge! Definitely doesn't deserve to be one of the lowest rated albums on this site when you have dogshit pig slop like that Kid Rock album as well.

Imagine stuffing a bunch of pillow stuffing in your mouth and screaming along to a speedcore band but it sounds like you're screaming that people should look at you while you have pillow stuffing in your mouth. Singing-meh. The guitar and drums are great hence 3 stars

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Entertaining but probably not in the intended way. Sounds like Homer Simpson yelling accompanied by hardcore punk. Impossible to parse the words just by listening but the written lyrics are cool. Kinda fun overall.

This was loud, fast and a bit aggressive for me but man are these guys tight. I respect what they’re doing here 3.5 stars

djöfull einhæft auðvitað. hlusta aldrei á þetta aftur en ekki án síns sjarma.

There's some killer riffs and cool passages here, but the songs blend together by the end of the album; I also would've liked to understand a little bit of the lyrics.

MEIN GOTT

It was ok to listen to when cooking dinner. But wouldn't listen to it for relaxation purposes.

I swayed from "Ok, I get it." and "Isn't this the same as the last song?" ... to OMFG this is FUN!!!!!

28 songs in 33 minutes this albums fucking crazy

I found this pretty entertaining and slightly amusing. I was expecting to dislike it immensely. Not my preferred style of heavy music, but I'll give the band props for creating its own style and driving it home in 1.5 minute increments. The indistinguishable vocals are classic. Why bother writing lyrics?

i liked this more than I thought I would. Granted, it's not an album I'll be returning to to listen all the way through, but these songs are fun. I don't love the vocals, though side two was fun with that second guy screeching away. anyway, good stuff, though not my wheelhouse. I definitely think it belongs on this list, though.

Not my thing, but not the worst metal I've heard

Wow. 28 songs, 33 minutes, what a rush. You Suffer? hilarious. I do actually like the opener, Multinational Corporations, and the closer, Dragnet.

Weird stuff.

Think about what would happen if this energy were directed elsewhere. World peace, for example.

Brutal. Savage. Relentless. Definitely the kind of music I respect more than I enjoy. But man, wild stuff. "Human Garbage" was a favorite. It starts out with that fun punk drumming and then devolves into anarchy and noise before morphing into a heavy metal riff. And all in a minute and a half! Holy shit the guy who takes over vocals on the second half of the album (Lee Dorrian) is insane. I already thought the vocals on the first half occasionally sounded like a barking dog but he sounds like a rabid dog on "Success." And the 1 second long song "You Suffer." Hahah you gotta love it. Taking a closer look at the album cover and noticing the corporate logos on the bottom. I wish I could understand more of the vocals on these songs. I think understanding the political rage of the lyrics would be the key for me in terms of getting into this a little more.

The tracks need to be longer fr and the unintelligible lyrics makes me laugh

Revolutionary album of the first Grindcore band with the mixture of Punk/Hardcore/Death/Metal. 28 songs in 33 minutes. But even though I think it's great material, it has never grabbed me in the least, no matter how groundbreaking and essential it all must have been in 1987 and probably still is.

Upon reading the description of hardcore punk/extreme metal/ grindcore, I prepared for an audio assault and a test of my endurance and patience. What I wasn't prepared for was that I would be roaring with laughter the entire time. Side splitting, sore stomach laughing. And then I listened a second time and a third time. Still laughing all the way. The first time listening, thankfully I had the lyrics scrolling along. The screen read, "The multinational corporation/Makes its profits from the starving nations" but the Aggressive Cookie Monster voice I heard roared "Eh mo ta co ta ma pro fa sto na!" On side two, the lyric read "Vicious circle of mindless greed," but the newly added shrill Tasmanian Devil voice screeched, "Ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra!" He wasn't even trying. It felt kind of like watching a Star Wars movie when the alien creatures are speaking their own monster language with subtitles. This all to intensely fast drumming that sounded like a washing machine spinning out of balance. It was the most ludicrous thing I've heard in a long time, and although I don't know that I reacted in the way the artists intended, I was well entertained today.

its a bit metally

Has he got himself caught in his zip?

grrrrr

What is going on… should I be doing this? Living, yet only managing to survive?

Fun for all the family!

Better than expected.

Shouting and grunting in a West Midlands accent over the rapidest drums you ever heard on wax, surely Napalm Death are playing with us at times with their single You Suffer lasting just 1.3 seconds? Nevertheless, it’s quite an experience, in equal measures thrilling and absurd.

Powerful playing but personally the vocal style isn't for me

Brutal hard core punk not my kinda of thing but I respect it

Intense

Pedrada de hardcore.

Not as terrible as it’s made to be. There are two different lineups on each half, and I liked the first side more.

3.7 - I enjoy this record as a tourist beholding an unfamiliar curiosity. "Golly, these locals sure have some strange customs! I didn't know the human voice was even capable of producing such sounds, no siree!" On a side note, I played "You Suffer" (the "song" that's famously 1.316 seconds long) for my 2 year old and 4 year old, and they were literally ROFL.

Solid heavy metal offering

borderline un listenable

A real toe-tapper

3, not as bad as people say, just abrasive

Genre: Grindcore 3/5 This thing is a fucking blast and a total shitshow. An exercise in absolute brutal, metallic chaos. The guitars are thrashing, the drums are blasting, and the vocals are a mix of grunts, screams, and panic attacks. It's truly a sonic nightmare, and rips conventions of popular and modern music to complete shreds. But when these guys take the time to slow it down in between blasts, there are some kick-ass riffs, some truly nasty bass fills, and songs that sound, if massaged enough, like Megadeth or Metallica songs, especially on the first half of the album. Siege of Power, Polluted Minds, and Instinct of Survival are exercises in crazy, and are thoroughly enjoyable. If you like rock music, turn your brain off and give this a listen. It's a riot.

That was entertaining! Not an everyday listen, but totally anachronistic.

I didn't think I'd heard any Napalm Death, but I HAD. They are the band that my friend's sister metalhead friends used to listen to. And we would mock their sound, which is the most hilarious thing ever when you are a 14-year-old schoolgirl going "RAAAR RAAAR RAAAAAAGGGHHHH!!!" Also, this type of music is my go-to for awkward music that I think I would not enjoy listening to. But this beotch is only half and hour long and the tracks seldom bother 90 seconds a piece. It's surprisingly palatable!

Not exactly my cup of tea, but I can see the appeal in the right room. Includes the worlds shortest song, so well done for that...

Ik moet toegeven dat het de beste heavy metal is die ik heb gehoord

Classic bit was never really a Napalm Death fan

When you get into these sub genres of metal it kind of ends up sounding like a parody of itself. This certainly isn't so over the top so as to be unbearable, and there are instrumental moments I enjoy, but when they flip the switch and do the high-speed kick-drum thing with the bark/shout/growl vocals it just comes across as comical (at least the first 10 times they do it). And they do that gimmick so often it becomes tedious and even exhausting. If they just used that technique like once or twice per album it would come across much more powerfully. But when they do it all the time it's just constantly being jerked in different directions, which I'm sure is the desired effect in the mosh pit, but on record the effect wears off quickly. Aside from that, the music is fine by me. Never got into this type of nearly unintelligible, exaggerated vocal delivery though. Can't really take it seriously. I'm more of a stoner/doom/sludge kind of guy when it comes to metal. If all music genres had drug equivalents this would be meth metal.

Ya know, I don't mind this so much really. It is interesting to read about the politics, worldviews, etc of Napalm Death and grindcore as a whole, who Napalm Death are apparently credited with having a huge influence in its formulation. Also apparently "You Suffer" is the shortest song according to Guinness Book of World Records, the Spotify version is 3 secs longer, ha! Overall though, some interesting phrases but it's more of a statement piece than something I'd wanna listen to on my own, live would be interesting I'm sure...

Högt tempo, låg energi

I'm largely skeptical towards extreme metal but this manages to come out the other end. I suppose the earlier an album is within a genre the more it's outside influences show.

Relentless...

i get so sad everytime the dude says "huefufufheuuheuhfuueehfueuehfueufhuhfue"

Woah these guys were ahead of their time. But ouch my ears! Also, repetitive, but I guess that's part of the genre.

Some really groovy stuff honestly. A bit of a slog, maybe cut out a few tracks. If you need this vibe, you got it fully here.

Metally. Has the silly you suffer on it.

I really enjoy acoustic folk music like this. I don’t think this deserves to be on the bottom of the list. There are many others I’ve heard that would be more appropriate. In fact, this album actually pretty fucking awesome to listen to in a way. It’s sonically dense. It’s hard as fuck. It’s pretty unique. I will revisit this one when the mood hits. There are a lot of days where this is exactly what you need.

GROARRRRR! 33 Minuten kurzweiliger Schönklang. Eines kann man diesen Machwerk nicht nachsagen: Längen. Ich fühlte mich prächtig unterhalten. Wirklich wun-der-schön! 4 Sterne? Na, komm, sagen wir 3.

Good puck rock

Not bad, but definitely not my thing.

cool but rough instrumental, dogwater vocals. There's no weight to them at all. eh-- I liked it more as it went on but heck it'd just be better if you removed the vocals, they do nothing for me or this album. It's as bad as the 1 stars are saying. It says a lot about this album though that a good number of the 5 star reviews are like "you don't get it man it's SUPPOSED to be bad!" C'mon there's a time and a place for contrarianism but this ain't the hill to die on. It's not THAT good.

A very different album with each side having a different line up except for the drummer. I prefer side 1. Also the first I ever heard of grinder music.

Like metal music but this was just for me. There were some songs I did like though.

objectionably unlistenable

not my tyle

Metal just isn't my thing, man. I appreciated some of the instrumentation but I just don't like the super deep voice style of singing in metal. Favorite Track: Siege of Power

really not for me - skipped halfway

Not really my thing, good instrumentally at times though

Whilst it's nice to have all genres represented on this list, it's very apparent that all genres are not for everyone

I don't like this album but not because of the reasons the wusses in the reviews have. I just thought it was boring.

yeah that’s grindcore alright

Sadly not into this genre.

go random shit

Before listening to 𝘚𝘤𝘶𝘮, the only Napalm Death song I really knew was 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗦𝘂𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿, mostly because of how ridiculously short it is. After hearing the full album, I can at least understand why it became so influential. The riffs are often better than I expected, and the sheer intensity of the music was clearly pushing heavy music into new territory. What keeps me from enjoying it more is the vocals. I know they’re an essential part of the album’s appeal, but they rarely do anything for me beyond adding another layer of noise. Combined with the relentless speed and aggression, the album ends up feeling more exhausting than exciting. As a historical document, 𝘚𝘤𝘶𝘮 is fascinating. As something I’d actually want to listen to regularly, not so much.

This isn't for me. When the band stops playing I can tell the song is over. And then miraculously it starts over again.

also death metal und grindcore is dann also fix doch nit so meins.. is ma zu viel und zu wenig zu gleich. is ma außerdem iwie zu happy? also so die drumms gehen volle ab und die gitarren auch aber es is so idk.. gibt ma einf nix

1 star for publishing an album 1 star for guitars and drums, which are pretty rad Zero stars for everything else. The vocals are beyond appalling.

so cute when they do their little growls and grunts

Simultaneously great and awful. I think if the vocals were done a bit more... stylishly... then you would have a pretty solid album here

Imponerade att få in 28 låtar på 33 minuter! Gjorde annars inget starkare intryck.

Har det något? Ja något. Men inte mycket.

Ah, a band I have put off listening to for about 2 decades. I love heavy metal and have always heard that Napalm Death is one of the original "Death Metal" bands and kept up with Slayer and Metallica during their Thrash Metal phases. I've never actually sat down and listened to any of their music until today. And honestly, having the lyrics open as I listened actually did not help at all with interpreting their speed chants. This is a core album to any skateboard parts/repair shop or tattoo parlor. Reading the lyrics, I actually find myself loving the message in their music. It's anti-corporation, heavily critical of consumerism and flock-mentality which is a message that is still extremely relevant in the year 2026. The media that the message is delivered via is extremely energetic and offensively raw. Every song definitely took one take and they just said "fuck it, keep it like that". The guitar tone is crunchy as hell but also comes through extremely clean, the bass thunders in the background of every track, and the drums are ridiculously fast and it all sounds like it was recorded in a garage next to a bunch of metal trash bins. Hilariously, the lyrics read like a high school LitMag with its various prose and poetic techniques. Sort of like thrash metal slam poetry. I definitely knew people in my high school who thought they were enlightened when listening to music like this. I get it, but also - objectively - it's just not great music. I think for me, personally, it's going to get a 4/10 which is carried purely by the content of the lyrics which you can't understand unless you read them. Honestly, they could have written anything in the transcription, and I wouldn't have questioned it. Cheers to those lads and their Dresden adventure. That review had me crying and trying not to make a scene at work.

Ugggghhh when you can read the lyrics, you find that they are actually interesting. But they are impossible to understand when they are being growled at you! My least favorite vocal style. What a waste of good content. I will give credit to the instrumentalists, because when I manage to block out the vocals I hear some pretty good stuff going on back there. It’s going to go into the two star category of: I understand the value of this, I just get no pleasure from listening to it.

How can you not like classics like "Ra ru re rah raaaaah" and "Roo too rah rooooooooo" seriously though not to bad and I like heavy music but this particular album wasn't for me

well alright! grindcore had to start somewhere and i appreciate that it exists but its not for me

Not good, sorry :/

Beautiful peaceful music, I like to have it on in the background while gardening or painting

I'm in on track 5 and didn't realize it until I checked. It kinda sounds like the band just recorded a jam session and determined there were different songs based on when they needed a break. I'm having a hard time getting a clear story here. A lot of them seem like great ideas for songs that need some polish. Spotify says this has actually lyrics. I don't hear the words Spotify says are being said. I would like this more if I could understand what is being said

Wild for late 80s, too much at some points

Kudos if you like this noise. Not for me

Primal, visceral, gutteral. Iconic for the early part of the hardcore scene and genre. Its a fun listen for musical knowledge especially a person like myself who likes metal and hardcore. Its truly unique in the lexicon of music. Almost unlistenable but it has those bitchin riffs.

boring.

This was… something. I’m sure there’s an audience for this. It sure as hell ain’t me, though.

I get that each genre of music has something that is great and enjoyable and even beautiful and artful. And I have had brief glimpses of this on occasion when listening to music like this. I also know that people are wired and I'm sorry to say I am not wired to enjoy this kind of music. Yes I can appreciate the energy of this music and can appreciate the satire I often hear in the lyrics of this type of music, but unfortunately it will never penetrate my heart. My 2 stars here are an indication of my own personal dislike of this music - not 1 star because I do see the art - it just doesn't speak to me.

I like the drumming, guitar riffs and that the album has a lot of short songs so that you get more unique guitar riffs and drumming.

Umm...I wanted to like it because of the protesty vibes that are even truer today than when this album was written. But man the screaming was just so hard to get over. Like can people who listen to this even understand what he is saying without reading the lyrcis??? The songs were short and for me a good length for a break in between, but there is little chance this will be part of my rotation or that I would ever search this out.

nope. I could swear that the first quarter of the album was just the drummer warming up. This is good music to stomp around to.

Maybe this would hit different if I’d been to Dresden… I appreciate the sentiment here but holy crap. The singer sounds like Cookie Monster freaking out on PCP, and I can’t hear a word he actually says. Thankfully we’re in an age of being able to read along with lyrics so I could get the gist of what this was all about. I’m pissed about what’s going on in the world too, but this is next level dark shit. The manic instrumentation almost made me feel panicky. But I’m giving it a 2 because I was at least entertained by it and was able to laugh through the panic.

A veces no tenés ganas de escuchar algo, y está fue la ocasión exacta. Le pongo un dos porque a pesar de no tener ganas y escucharlo por encima no fue para nada inescuchable.

Well, that was 'fun', but I doubt this will be on my future playlist. There's a place for this, but not, I think, this list.

Takkeherrie

I am not a big grindcore fan. I much prefer Heartwork to Reek of Putrefaction, and my brief time listening to Napalm Death in the early 2000s was pushed aside as I discovered At The Gates and started listening to melodic death. Not for me, but blast (beats) from the past.

This is #day639 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… this isn't the kind of music to expose yourself to on a Saturday afternoon, right? I acknowledge this record as a cornerstone of grindcore, but this just isn't my lane. I can tolerate certain forms of thrash metal and, say, hardcore punk, but this… is too extreme/angry/evil for me. I didn't feel like finishing it. I'm landing on a 2 out of 5. Looking forward to #day640.

Some musically great sounds from time to time but otherwise lacklustre. They have far better works out there. 2.5 stars

Never been a grindcore fan. Obviously, this is one of the big albums of the genre. I appreciate the energy, but I just can’t get into it…and I’m in a punk band.

LOUD. I mean, not enjoyable, but... kind of?

I wasn't ready for this on a Tuesday morning.

Erm—28 songs in 33 minutes—can a fully formed musical thought be less than 75 seconds long?

Wikipedia says that the two sides of this album are “very different” and that the only musician who plays on both is the drummer. Huh.

WRAAAHGHGHGH. I mean that isn't something I personally listen too hahaha. But honestly I do get it and see the point of it a bit, and the raw noise it brings over. 1. Scum 2. Instinct of Survival 3. You Suffer

Well…. Not for me eventually.

I like weird stuff, but this is too angry and heavy for me. Ha at that 5 second song though.

Great bass, amazing guitar, meaning lyrics, heart pounding drums and the worst vocals you've ever heard. I've ever heard what else could you ever possibly want.

Honestly, I really kind of dug the music. Fast paced, high energy, but the "singing" really drug it down. I probably should give this a 1 star, but I am still riding high on that vacation vibe so I'll throw in an extra.

very loud, and very concise songs, hard to understand a lot of it but i had no problem with it

Found myself laughing a lot while listening to Scum - 28 tracks in 33 minutes will do that to a person. Favourite track: Scum

Not my type of metal

I listened to this back to back with tangerine dream. And it kind of made me ask. What is music? What is a song? I didnt dislike a lot What was going on in the background. But is growling over a minute of banging drums and thrash guitar a song? I dunno. Maybe. I liked Life and some of the stuff on that part of the album cause it sounded like gremlins or something.

There were a few cool spots, I'm glad I listened... but I did not like this.

The vocals are so hilariously stupid and bad. It's like someone pretending to be an angry dog, but in like... a funny way. Ruff ruff ruff ruff ruff! Ruff ruff ruff ruff ruff! Sausages! They just make me laugh. I'm not sure that's what the band were going for. But some of the guitars and rock melodies are good, so at least there's that?

I wrote this logo on lots of notebooks throughout middle school. 2 spins for this project is about equal to, or even more than, I ever listened to them back then tho. In my defense it was a lot more difficult to listen to every single thing before the streaming era. My cd budget was woefully short of my listening appetite. Unlike some of their compatriots decorating my science folder, this band *was* exactly what I was looking for. I don't hear that now tho. It all sounds like a lot of banging & screaming. Don't get me wrong, I'm down for some occasional banging & screaming. My preferred banging & screaming has a bit more musicality tho. And variety. This album suffers from a bit of same-song. Why are we going for the drumming speed record on *every* track? "Say what you will about the tenets of [grindcore], at least it's an ethos." 2 & 1/2, but we're rounding down to 2

Listens: 1 The prize I get for listening to 365 days - 1 year's - worth of albums I must hear before I die is... An album on the bottom 20. Yay! I understand why this has scored so low. As far a thrash metal (or whatever the fuck grindcore means) is concerned, I could genuinely get behind the instrumentation, at least in small doses. The percussion, the bass, the guitar; all quite adequate in terms of the what is being presented and within the context of the metal genre. But the singing... You honestly can't even call it singing. It's more like growling or barking. I literally could not understand a single word said across the entire 33 minute album. I had to resort to pulling up the lyrics just to decipher anything. I try to listen to every album at least 2 times, but when I pulled this album up for a second go around as I was about to cook dinner, I could not bring myself to do it. I could not consciously submit my ears to a paltry 33 minutes of auditory assault. My time would be far better spent listening to almost anything else, which I did. Morcheeba's Escape The Chaos. This gets a 2. I dislike it overall, but I like it more than Justin Timberlake, Destiny's Child and most of the music that comprises the "Country" genre.

Why does the lead singer sound like he's recording his lyrics from another room half the time? The other half is just noise.

If it’s going to be bad, at least it’s short.

Meh, didn't move me at all

Who knew Animal from the Muppets actually did put out a record? The speed of the drumming is kinda of impressive. It’s actually not quite as bad as I had anticipated, but good lord this is not something I’d ever want to listen to again.

This was one of those "Uh-oh, this is gonna suck...actually, there's some decent stuff here...ugh, I wish it were over" albums. I love hard rock, and for a brief moment I thought this was going to be the rare thrash album that I liked, but this ain't it. I really respect the drumming on this album, and there were fleeting moments where everything sounded good together, but the vocals were consistently awful to these ears. Despite being listed as 28 different tracks, it all sounded like the same noise after 15 minutes or so. It's an assault on the ears, as most thrash metal is. 1.8

Maybe because I'm not a 19 year old punk in a city that Maggie Thatcher has just destroyed with neoliberalism. Maybe because I don't smoke two packs a day and am on so much amphetamines I can sit still. Maybe because I don't want my music as fast, loud, and hard as possible, this isn't for me. I understand its "seminal position in grindcore" but newsflash I don't like grindcore. Punk is fine, this is just the scene from Dewey Cox about inventing punk music; a sentiment I think I'll be expressing a lot in this project.

Oufff…des petits bouts musicaux intéressants au niveau guit/drum mais le chanteur c’est un gros no pour moi! J’ai écouté juste 2 chansons.

😂 what a funny album, I couldn’t understand anything he was saying, the music was decent, but 😱 I’m not sure you could call this a “fun” album

Look...I am a big metalhead. Do I appreciate what these guys contributed to the genre? Sure, thanks for the blast beats. But I will not be listening to this again. This list has a bunch of "influential" albums in metal, but then has hardly any of the music it actually influenced. Like do we have any metal that came out after 2000? I'm 800 albums in, and I don't think I've gotten one. I guess it's up to us in the user submissions to fill in the incredibly large gaps.

I totally understand why this record is on this list. I didn't necessarily dislike it but it was hard to listen to. Even though it was only 33 minutes, it still felt longer. I loved that they had a 5 second song on there haha. Probably won't listen to this ever again.

Super fast album. Sometimes interesting. Barely a 2,5.

Fast and menacing, like Metallica if they weren't a bunch of pussies.

I feel like I was hit with a battering ram, but not completely in a bad way! There's something charming about a 33-minute LP with 28 tracks. This is one of the reasons I love this project: it leads me to sit with and contemplate an album that I would never listen to otherwise. As much as I enjoyed this little sampling, I probably won't give it a relisten. But that's only because it might've given me an ear infection.

That’s how it feels to chew 5 gum

I love a deep slow bass as much as anyone. But a bit too heavy on the vocals for my vibe

My rating 2.0 The best I could say was I didn’t hate it. The low growling of the lyrics are nearly indiscernible but the wall of sound and noise from the instruments are jarring and profound. An all out assault to the ears.

I knew about this album from the TV show "Silicone Valley." "You Suffer" is a good song to put in between songs in an album to remind you a new song has started

I love metal, but this is not my kind of metal. The instrumentation is good though.

Wow and I thought the songs on the last one were short... Lol one song was literally 5 seconds. Almost like a hybrid of punk and death metal. Not a fan of the vocals, like the instrumentals though.

I went in with an open mind There’s some cool pockets on here but I can’t ever see myself coming back to this

Why so angry?

Very not for me but I appreciate the format for non fans. Short songs, short album. Huge credit for that.

Great name, but this just doesn’t sound good does it

scumscumscumscumscum

I can see why it's the lowest rated album on the list, not the biggest fan of grindcore personally but I don't agree that this album is just noise for its own sake. I suppose reading through the history of this album and its influence sheds a bit of light on its legacy and its inclusion in this list, but when it comes down to it - you still gotta listen to the damn thing. Idk, I think You Suffer is hilarious and sincerely great.

I've gotta say, I had relatively high hopes for this album based on the artwork and genre descriptions. Threw it on before doing battle with 2" thick ice with the expectations that some proper angry metal would form a good backdrop for the endeavor. What I didn't expect was to find myself laughing 2 minutes in at the vocals -- they are so *extreme* that they feel almost like a self-aware caricature of the genre. Growing up, my dad used to sort of make fun of metal using the same sort of ridiculous quick barely legible delivery: "kill your mother; kill your father." It makes this quite hard to take seriously. That said, outside of the sections where the direction is quite literally strum as fast as you can and hammer blast-beats until your wrists are about to break, there are a number of solid riffs and breakdowns in here. I just can't imagine ever listening to this seriously. Going with a super low 2 -- I think I might make Polluted Minds my new alarm.

Is it good? Not really, but I'd be lying if I said I hated this lol

Quite abrasive stuff. Got to appreciate the influence they had but otherwise this is not a great listen - production is bleak and flat, vocals are very hard to follow, even with the lyrics at hand. It’s the embodiment of anger and for that it deserves an extra point!

I’m not even sure what to say about this album, it was such a blur. Individual songs carry no value, with some of them being as short as 5 seconds. And yet, at 28 songs, it feels so so long. I don’t really get it, I can’t tell you the difference between the different songs, it was rough.

As a light listener of hardcore metal and it's many variants I find myself somewhat disappointed. I expected to hear the passion and the anger but it has somehow reversed itself into an exercise of making themselves the angriest thing possible and somehow forgetting what they're angry about because they're too focus on being angry.

28 canciones en 33 minutos. Infumable. Ni siendo más o menos fan del heavy y el rock duro me ha interesado lo más mínimo. Hasta siendo tan corto se hace largo. Supongo que tiene que estar aquí por ser el album pionero del grindcore.

28 tracks, not a whole lot of songs ong.... Sick album to listen to while I hit my kids though!

I’m sure there’s a subtlety woven into these songs that you can only pick up by listening intently, on headphones, as the maximum volume. Unfortunately, you’ve got to decide between that and having functioning eardrums for the rest of your life.

Not really my thing

Metal, with exceptional lyricism.

Very energetic, I like the instrumentals but I wish that the vocalist would clearer with their enunciation- couldn’t understand any of the words became repetitive after a while

The music is okay but man the production sounds so bad

You know it had its moments and I'm glad I can say Ive now listened to a Napalm Death album. Think I likes side A over side B, though some interesting guitar work on side B. Vocals were rubbish on both. Not for everyone and in fact, probably not for many at all. But it did have some pace and you could imagine it produces a solid mosh pit.

Some top-notch metal deconstruction going on here. Well done, but not my cup of tea. 2/5

1.5 I mean, I respect the genre but it’s extremely not for me. It’s all the same, screamed, 60 second song.

28 songs in 33 minutes lol honestly not as inaccessible as i was expecting. the screaming is whatever, but the music in a lot of places is just 4 on the floor driving rock. not going in the rotation or anything, but also wasn't straight up nightmare ear poison as some of the reviews had me ready for

All the songs are pretty fast and they aren't very distinct from each other, and this make the songs not worth for itself. The album fails to convey the feeling of anger it aims for. This might be because the vocals are dreadful—and it's not a problem with the genre itself; they are just insignificant. Since it's impossible to understand what he’s saying, it doesn't seem like the vocalist knows what he's doing. A more technical approach would definitely improve it. It could be much better.

I kind of enjoyed this, even if some of that enjoyment was amusement. I preferred the first side which is more varied and sometimes closer to hardcore punk; side two is more consistently grinding. Neither set of vocals does anything for me. I'm glad to have listened to it but not often likely to return

Not really my thing

I don’t remember much but I think it was like punk

Not really a fan of this but at least it was unique

I like to rock as hard as the next guy but I didn’t really get this at all. Felt like a lot of incomplete songs and either something was always starting or ending with not much in between. And a 4 second is something. Some decent riffs that is having me round up. 1.5

Better than Joni Mitchell. 1.5/5

There's something to be said about thrashing dozens of minute and an half or less songs into existence. Fucking metal as fuck. Noise and confusion.

less than mid brah fr fr skibidy

In terms of tone, that's a hell of an opener. It's heavy as hell and almost oppressive sounding. Something like this should be on the list since it's a style of music that is distinct and pushes a boundary as much as anything that's more accessible but unique. A bit of a punishment to hear but it reminds me a bit of punk that I feels more about the feeling and emotion than anything else. I don't think this is as big a waste of time as a lot of the reviews say but it's not something I'd put back on much. Okay, the longer this went on the harder it is to not give it a 1. This is either. 2 for the positive elements of ways it pushes boundaries or a 1 for how I feel listening to it.

As subtle as a jackhammer. 1.5/5

I like the part when he said "aslkdjfblkzxjbfvlkjasbrdgkajdnbg"

A great year 14 year old me is creaming himself

In the spirit of this album: BISSIBUNNABOFFADOE BISSIBUNNABOO GOLLAVINDISONNADO ROPPSTOCKODO RUDUFU RIMIFI RAFADEW. RIFIDERAFAROOOOOOOOOO. It sounds like your deaf neighbours having rough sex.

Failed to connect with this. Kudos for a completely different sound, but I can see why it is rated so low.

I appreciate that the songs are short. These are all intense, but it’s not as hard to listen to as I feared.

Vraiment moyen, on dirait qu'ils font juste : "ON FAIT DU METAAAALLLL". Les gars, c'est pas bon mdrrr

Most of the singing on this album is like that family guy bit where Peter can name all 50 states in the US in under a second. production is fine, playing is sometimes good, this could be a great thrash metal record… but nope. 4/10

This is getting 1 star more than I expected, because it made me smile. A lot. This is despite the horrendous noise that the vocalist makes. I know it’s a stretch to describe him as a vocalist. I actually find it funny that Apple Music has the lyrics on some of the songs, which makes it fun to sing a long to. I might play it again and sing along in the style of Michael Buble. It also has to be said that the first 1 minute 19 seconds of ‘Scum’ was great guitar work. Music managed to break out here and there in other occasions. On another positive note, they only needed 33 minutes to thrash out their repertoire of 28 anthems. Well played. Footnote: I’d rather listen to this than Kanye West. Or Adele.

Respect for the genre and its punk rock spirit but it's not for me. I am middle-aged and not nearly that angry anymore. I'm not sure I would have even liked this when I was 15, but I probably would have shared more of the black-and-white extreme PoVs in the songs.

Definitely not my kind of music. Appreciated it for what it was but won't go back.

I expected to hate this, but I didn’t. I found it oddly captivating. The anti-MNC/TNC stuff was ahead of the game. Maybe this was the genesis of the riots that used to happen when the WTO used to have an annual high-five fest at different cities around the world? Granted, I needed to have the lyrics alongside me so I could at least read what was in the minds eye of the vocalist rather than his output. Would I listen to it again? Absolutely not. It seemed longer than 33 minutes and I don’t think I have the mental resilience to subject myself to it again. Did I hate it? No.

I'm going for two stars because of the audacity. Great drums. Even though Spotify had the lyrics I still failed to distinguish a single word, the singers sound like Animal from the Muppets except less coherent, I refuse to believe it's in English.

this was an album that i probably would have never heard unless i did this not a huge metal girly but i do appreciate the absolute in angst in this i see why it's included and understand its place in music history happy this exists but it's probably not one i'll come back to mosh pit, gargle music

Not my taste

#750. This could be vastly improved by the vocalist just kind of yelling instead of doing vocal fry screams. Because he is not good at it, it sounds like shit, and drags the whole thing down. Or alternatively he could just get better at it, I guess. But as it is, it's not a good look. 2/5: meh

More hilarious than anything.

This is someone’s jam. It is certainly not my jam, but I get it. This is way more deserving of a spot than handfuls of psychedelic records on this list. At least this has some teeth to it. 2/5, the album cover tells all. The horrors persist

1.5 stars. 28 short (primarily 30-90s) intense grindcore metal tracks. Moments of melody and build that quickly get cut short by repetitive bars. Painful vocals, otherwise musically not bad meta. Impressively fast drumming, guitar that sounds a bit like Metallica or Motorhead at times.

If that had been longer, my eardrums would have exploded.

I have to be honest this is not my style of music but I tried, I give it a chance, the songs were very small and it was an insteresting experience although I dont liked the songs

you know what? after reading the wikipedia article, i can't protest this album's inclusion at all. it seems like it was pretty foundational for grindcore and speed metal and a whole host of other micro-genres. i may not have liked it but i can respect it!

Quite abrasive stuff. Got to appreciate the influence they had but otherwise this is not a great listen. Production is bleak and flat, vocals are very hard to follow, even with the lyrics at hand. It’s the embodiment of anger and for that it deserves an extra point!

As soon as the vocals hit in the first song I started laughter! Soon after, I was imagining the singer as being a dog, which also made me laugh. It's terrible, lyrics are completely indecipherable. However, it was more enjoyable than some other music I've come across on this list. The energy of nihilism and anger are here in full force. And I could imagine their shows being a blast.

2/5. Unfortunate that I was provided lyrics to different songs through my music streaming app. I was following along with the lyrics of "The greed of the corporate world will destroy mankind with its money and power" when the actual lyric was "bleeeehuuggghh" which I feel like is a little off. Granted, the musicianship was great and the influence of this album is crazy with what it inspired today. Like a critic said, it is actually pretty tame with what we have today. Also, it doesn't really hold up in my opinion in regards. It's not great but the punk aspect of it keeps it from being terrible. First half was better than the second half. I guess I would have liked some more intelligent lyrics than what we got and hopefully my streaming app gets that fixed, so much misleading information nowadays (sarcasm). Best Song: Scum, Instinct of Survival, Human Garbage

10/10/2025 What a terrible album 🤣, the only saving grace was that it was over quickly. Spotify listeners: 175.7k

I don't like screamo/death metal.

This is really not my thing but I love that it exists. I'll give it a 2 because it reminds me of FH.

It was short. Top track: "Instinct of Survival"

Final thoughts: I liked 'Siege of Power' but that might be the only "complete" song on here. Other tracks dabble in interesting ideas and sounds but in the end this wasn't for me. ******************************************************************************* --Scum...interesting --Siege of Power...pretty cool --Human Garbage...almost sounds like a pop song --Success?...Love that guitar chug --C.S....cool guitars on this one. sick drumming --Moral Crusade...heavy af --M.A.D....again, like those guitars

This plays so much better in the context of this list than on its own. In the context of this list, it's something different and interesting. On its own, it's a parody of anger and hardcore music.

Can't help but laugh at this. The only positive here is that it broke a streak of mushy lame brit pop

idk... 2

Wow i didnt hate it as much as i expected to

An odd listen. It’s disorienting and I honestly have no clue what I listened to. Every song sounds pretty much the same to me, and there are more tracks than a lot of triple albums, despite the record only being 33 minutes. There is some cool heavy stuff happening here and there and there is some clear talent present, I just don’t quite get the appeal. It wasn’t ear splitting, though, which is nice. 2/5

Grrrrhhhh. Deeeggggg hhhdddd fffrreee. Pretty much the only lyrics I could understand. Also way to fucking heavy for me

Its not my style, but they have a political vein.

yeah it sucks but those cymbals save it from being a 1

It is noisy and hard to understand the lyrics. From what I could tell from checking the lyrics, I'm on board with what this band is selling. The music is energetic and would probably be really fun to see in person. I honestly couldn't say what makes this a good example of this type of music because I know nothing about other bands. Not bad, not going to return to it.

Very listenable, but isn't my type of music. Probably give it a 2.5 which is okay.

Riotous and very noisy. Sometimes that works for me.

There is some decent playing, but most of it seemed to be focused on being loud and fast instead of being cohesive. I was never into grunting either. A little bit of grunting is alright, though. You Suffer cracked me up, to be fair.

A classic Peel band. Not as in a classic band, but as in a classic case of 'does he really like this? Is he playing it because it's good for us to hear it? ' They got through a Peel session in under seven minutes, which leaves plenty of time for the pub.

I like to walk down the street whistling these catchy tunes, get into my car and drive 100 mph straight into a wall.

Ikke min kopp te, godt hardcore har utviklet seg litt de siste 40 årene.

J'ai réussi à me faire profondément chier en 33mn, bien joué

Yeah, not a fan.

That was some really really angry jazz

Aika paskaa alusta loppuun.

Not for me!

Lol I actually didn't mind this album, though it is quite grating overall. I have to say, the micro songs are fun and provide lots of variety. Plus they give the opportunity for so many more edgy song names. I got a kick out of the spooky, unintelligible vocals and some of the more consonant instrumentals. A lot of the songs actually made me laugh because of the grunting and higher-pitched, goblin-like screeching. I'll give this 4/10.

Erityismaininta Parasitesin kitarasoolosta. Hauskana kuriositeettina Parasitesillä on 1500 kuuntelukertaa kun Scumilla taas 6,5 miljoonaa. Legendaarisuudesta extra tähti, tästä bändistä puhuttiin jo 90-luvulla ala-asteella, mutta henkisesti erittäin raskas kokemus.

I am shocked that I dont hate this! It's nonsensical and repetitive, but it definitely lifts your energy. I found myself laughing at it a lot in a "wtf am I listening too way" Overall- not bad

Aika paahtoa. Musiikillisesti varmaan 1/5 mutta pioneeristatuksesta ylimääräinen tähti

Melko monotoninen levykokonaisuus.

Starts ok, enjoyed the guitar work and energy, but the vocals aren't my thing, and I just found I lost focus too much with the short songs.

"metal screams"

I get it. I get why it's here and I get why people hate it. Do I like it? Not really. Do I hate it? Not really. And how am I ever going to beat *that* review. Best Tracks: Multinational Corporations; Instinct of Survival; Scum

There is a line where music becomes noise and they thread it

36/100. Intense, rough, and loud, but ultimately a messy listen. The tracks are too short to leave a real impression, and the sound ends up feeling too similar throughout.

Nah, just over speedy death metal

The only thing more chaotic and disjointed than this album is the lineup for Napalm Death post 1986.

An almbum that i didnt expect to have fun with 4/10

Ok, lets break this down. Drums: good fast and angry Guitars: well done with power and precision and occasional flashes of tune Vocal: i dont see the point, apart from willfully being aggressively primal they are just awful.

holy hell, what a listen. this is what heavy metal music sounded like to me when i was like... 8 years old. downright evil sounding guitar riffs, drums going absolutely nuts and smashing cymbals at untrackable bpms, and growling, hooting vocals that are mostly unintelligible. this album is... i'm sorry, it's just goofy to me. it sounds like a parody of the genre. it sounds like something that uncle jobel would make as a bit, but no, this album was made genuinely. a lot of the tracks are only a minute or so long and it's all just... wow. i'm giving it a two-star rating if only because this album makes me laugh when i listen to it. BAMBAMBAMBAMBAMBAMBAMCRASHCRASHCRASH. JJIJUGGABUGGADUBBADOHHRRAAAAAAAAAAUUUUGHMMRRRUGHHHHUH. RAAAAAAAAAAUUHHHUHUBALLLLFFF!! HUBUUH!! HRRJJ JJJHUT!!

Minute long songs are ideal in the world of streaming, but this isn't my jam.

The best thing about this album is that when it was over, my apple music played other heavy/death metal albums that were actually good. Not a single intelligible word on both sides of the album. Great drumming and guitar hammering tho. Vocals are horrible and serves no purpose for the anti-establishment point they are going for.

like lowkey not really my thing! the guitar absolutely rips but overall a bit overstimulating.

Did I enjoy it absolutely not, 2 stars for recognizing their influence and it least it was pushing boundaries and challenging, unlike some other generics on the list

What if the drummer was the band? Well...

sopiva albumi tähän hätään.. impossible indestructable unmovable pain of living rn... mahdotonta elää tällä hetkellä... sietämätön kärsimys ja kamaluus koetus meneillään rn. vitutus ja mahdottomuus käsi kädessä vetää turpaan kulleja, vatsaa sekä naamaa.. lisää alkoholia lisää lisää lisää juomaa vereen aaaaah huumehörhöt pitäis tappaa mut ei mua heh kaljaa kaljaa kaljaa lisää lisääkaljaa kaljaa kaljaa lisää lisääkaljaa kaljaa kaljaa lisää lisääkaljaa kaljaa kaljaa lisää lisääkaljaa kaljaa kaljaa lisää lisääkaljaa kaljaa kaljaa lisää lisääkaljaa kaljaa kaljaa lisää lisääkaljaa kaljaa kaljaa lisää lisääkaljaa kaljaa kaljaa lisää lisää scum

Interesting

This was a strange experience. It was almost like consuming a noise project. Or an ambient piece made up of field recordings of beehives writhing and raging. It was... weirdly sooth? The buzz of the guitars, the blast beats, the constant screaming. It melds into this strange, comforting white noise. I know it's supposed to be scary and abrasive and like looking into the darkest part of humanity's soul, but my mind sorta glossed over all that and enjoyed the sonic texture. It filled the silence while still allowing my mind to wander. And that is a treat in these times of never-ending content and constant stimulation. I listened to both versions, the original mix and the full dynamic range version. The original works better as white noise because it's much harder to pick out the details in the shitty mix. In the updated mix you can definitely pick out more for of the guitar, the high frequency instruments. It's still noise in a good way but just at different frequency. But it's definitely more musical. This is a hard one to score. I'm not sure that i'm consuming this album as it's meant to be consumed. It all blends together in a good way. But i can't really pick out individual tracks that I liked. I don't think i'd want to listen to individual tracks. I think you only get the soothing effect by listening to 30 tracks in a row. I think it's probably a 2.5 for me... but I will round down because i'm not really appreciating it as music. It's more like one of those white noise 10 hour youtube videos people toss on to fall asleep to.

I'm just so overjoyed that this isn't more britpop or angsty 80s-90s grunge. As a metalhead, I like a lot of this. Proto-grindcore is a real standout on this list. Like others have pointed out, the author of this list seems to focus very heavily on the pioneers of a genre rather than the genre's actual best refinement. This is no exception. This album has clearly influenced a ton of artists that I love today but it's just an alright grindcore album that I'd put on for a workout. The drummer is very talented. In no way needed to hear this before I die. Fave tracks: Scum, Control, Dragnet

I loved the pace of the album (28 songs, 33 minutes) but the actual music, ehhhhhhhh not my thing.

Seriously what is this nonsense noise.

Imagining Cookie Monster fronting a grindcore band was entertaining. Unlikely that I'll return to this, but still grateful to hear something truly different on the list.

I have no words. I certainly know after listening to this album that I am not a fan of this style of music.
