Few bangers
To date (over twenty years later) this is his only album, and you can hear why. How do you top this?
good
Just so damn fun. FIVE!
Very good
A forever classic. Tunes bounce and roll. Still waiting for the follow up album
No. 35 From the first track, I loved the sound. This is an enjoyable, bouncy, electric instrumental listen, and really good for productivity
brilliant, didn't know he had done so many Bangers 🤙
I love it, it's really chilled electronica music that is honestly exactly what I needed to listen to today. Need to do something completely mindless this shit will help you concentrate 5 and a absolute gem of a find
This is an absolute banger. I'm sure there will be plenty on this site who want to pan this album but the beats are pounding. The Drop The Pressure / In My Arms salvo is just awesome. Classic sound of the early to mid 2000s.
Tbh this was already one of my favorite albums. Kinetic, flowing, elegant, a smooth sound. Love it.
This album had such a massive influence on me! I have listened to it thousands of times! It peaked my interest in home recording electronic music. I read that most of this album was recorded using the DAW ‘Reason’ by propellahead and I spent the next 6 months trying to learn how to use it and making music. Obviously I didn’t become famous and make it to this list, but I had a lot of fun! My interest in electronic home recording has never left me although the DAW ‘reason’ left my computer pretty quickly as I found it way too complicated!! I can’t believe he never made another album!! What an awesome album - full of ‘getting ready to go out’ bangers!
Drop the Pressure has been one of my 'go to' GET PUMPED songs for years, so I feel like I have to give this a 5 just because of how many times I've listened to it! The rest of the album is pretty fun too - I enjoyed listening to it in full! Another one that I think is surprisingly underrated on here. Its a touch long, and I can see why people might say its repetitive - but I'm into it. Motherf*ckers gonna drop the presssssuurrrrre
Liked this one a lot Lots of fun sounds and hooks. Only song I didn’t love was the one where it was band/celebrity names on repeat. Kinda weak and repetitive Enjoyed this album tons
9/10… electronic / balearic chill
intensely lovable, warm, sometimes adorable handcrafted dance songs in pop song lengths and structure. if for some reason ur not into whats happening rn, ur never more than a few minutes away from the next idea...tho given how consistent the strengths are im not sure how likely that even is. extremely pastel music, a subtle palate made hooky enveloping, way better then i was expecting tbh! a great midpoint between Introverted and Extroverted dance music, if that makes any sense
Very good - this is my jam and much better than the last album I listened to.
2004. Scotland. House, electropop. !!!!!
5 stars absolutely amazing!!
Listened to before: Yes Yes, this is a nice little gem, on which I return to at least every few years. Did it change music forever? Probably not. Am I glad that it exists? Absolutely. The more well known songs like Drop The Pressure and the title track send a wring lead as the album is actually quite smooth and works very well if you listen to it from start to finish. Favourite deep cut: Rikki. Rating: 4.5
Amazing album new to me
Felt like sinking into a dream I’ve had many times before. Lo-fi beats to study/work/chill to
Lovely album, immaculate vibes. Kept growing on me and ended on the perfect note.
Can't find any fault with this one
Amazing album i found when i was searching for cool music whenever i could. Found this at an awesome point in my life!
Didn't think positively at first due to the album name but I really enjoyed it overall.
I had never heard of Mylo before now, but this album was just immensely awesome. So many catchy grooves and melodies that really grabbed my ear and just made me happy. Perfectly recorded/produced and just so, so good. I listened to it twice. Five stars, hands down.
Great album. Don't think I've ever listened to Mylo before. Very groovy. No stand out song
No täähän taas yllätti, en ihan tämmöistä house levyä odottanut tältä listalta. Parhaat: In My Arms, Rikki, Otto's Journey
Yeah, this was phenomenal. I cannot believe I didn't hear about this when it first came out. I would've loved this as a kid. I've never had 55 minutes pass by so fast and blissfully. Stellar album. I need to find this on CD.
Shiiiiiiiiiiiit
I love this album. Its been in my top 10 for many years, the samples are great. I felt blessed to share this with my friend who is a music nerd and he never heard it but like it.
Great
The myth was amazing
Y'know, I feel like the title "DESTROY ROCK & ROLL" might set people up with the wrong expectations. Certainly, it set me up with a neat zinger if it turned out this album was bad actually: "DESTROY ROCK & ROLL? How are you gonna do that when you can't even kill a beat?" Har-de-harr. For me, an album calling itself "DESTROY ROCK & ROLL" sounds like it should be setting itself up for some hard hitting stuff. Real "bangers," so the kids call 'em. And while I do think this album has those, they also tend to be a little... "Boppish," as well? I mean, I wasn't expecting this album to be adjacent to IDM or harder genres of electronica like that, but... Yeah, no, this is actually electropop. Mostly sampled from radio-friendly soft rock, as it happens. I'm not sure if I'd call it terribly special, nor something I **needed** to listen to before I died, but unlike a lot of reviews I see that amend that thought to their 1/5's... Hey, I think it's a fun piece of background music. And as I stress when I praise something for being background music: there's nothing wrong with. It has as much right to exist as everything else. Sure, it doesn't go anything good for the album's longevity unless the artist who made it is just **that** notable (see Brian Eno's ambient album). For what it is, though, I feel like I have hardly anything to complain about. In fact, I actually enjoy how a lot of it is sampled from soft rock. For the record, too, by the way, it turns out the title "DESTROY ROCK & ROLL" comes from a Chrisitian fundamentalist sermon sampled on the title track, which mispronounces several artists names, including "Weird Al" Yankovich[sic]. So, really, I can only assume, then, that the use of "destroy rock and roll" is supposed to be ironic — that "rock and roll" is meant to refer to all music, really, and that the album is in favor of **not** doing that. So it's nice to know we're on the same side here. All in all... Y'know, honestly, I am kinda feeling a 5 on this. Part of me was hesitant to do so, since I have been wondering lately if I've been too generous in handing those out.... But honestly, "Emotion 98.6" did actually convince me to go all the way. I really did the track, and the end of it specifically, just that much. Unlike other albums I give 5's, I'm not sure if I'm gonna come back to it too frequently, if at all, but for the time I had with it... Yeah, it turns out this guy can actually kill a beat after all. Go figure.
Wasn't really sure what this album was gonna sound like before listening, but it being some fucking stellar electronic tunes certainly was a surprise in my book. Solid 5 Stars.
Very surprising. Fantastic house album.
That album was awesome. Another one of those ones where I had zero expectations going in and it just absolutely blew my socks off. The combination of trippiness and really cool electronic beats is right up my alley. There were a lot of parts where I was fully engaged and could not worked and others where I was totally lost in the music. Sounded a lot like Justice which I am all about. That song In My Arms absolutely ruled. The repetitive speaking in a couple of songs lunched me out but in a great way. Especially when he just kept repeating band names, I thought I was going crazy. Really wish I could have done drugs and listen to this album, but instead I was working. I think this one gets a bump all the way up to a 5 because of the unexpected uniqueness and the amount of absolute jamming I was doing in my office. I also want this to be on a relisten which will be easy to find if it is a 5
enjoyable dance music, not pop
Something we may feel cheesy now but innovative back then.
Totally unexpected and fantastic! Really fun and creative :) made me miss making this kind of music
Cool beats. Mellow but nice.
Such a good album. Reminds me of highschool
I was surprised that I liked this so much. I found myself moving to the beats, so it must be good. Liked songs added: - Valley Of The Dolls - Sunworshipper - Drop The Pressure - Guilty Of Love - '05 Version
I remember hearing many of this album's songs on the radio as a kid. It's got a very nostalgic aura for me. Amazing discovery.
great not rock disc!
Discordant sounds and randomly assembled patterns turned into delightfully unique music and melodies. This was a really fun listen, not at all what I expected.
Epic
Albums like this are why I enjoy this site, a great listen that was funky and different and enjoyable from beginning to end. Add to that the mystery of not knowing anything about the artist when I started the album, I want all my albums to be just as fun as this one.
I was happy the whole time listening to this today. It's a quite wonderful mashup of lots of things I love.
This was a case where I was drawn in to reading the Wikipedia article before listening to any of this. It made me eager to hear it as it was sounding like it might be right up my alley! I started listening to this and realized that I knew some of these songs. “Sunworshipper” and “In My Arms” were songs I had listened to a while ago, probably close to when this was released. Another case where I neglected to pursue an album after finding some songs from a group I like rectified by 1001. This manages to be peppy and yet a little mellow too - very listenable. Really enjoyed this!
Maybe I was just in the right mood, but this was excellent. Hints of Daft Punk, but mellower.
I want more of this!
First album that I thought I'd hate but it was actually a banger. Had more rhythm and melody than most edm music I've heard. Sampled songs added a nice touch, gave some vocals on top of the synths and other electronics
I wasn’t expecting to like an EDM album but holy fuck, I would throw this on any time. I have never heard of this artist and do not usually like EDM too much but this is exactly my speed
Loved this album, rock and roll is dead. Long live electronic music
Wow. What an unexpected treasure. Very smooth and low-key. A fantastic album using old samples to make a unique and modern sound. Listened to the album 3 times in total and will listen again in future.
Is this the start of low-fi? It's amazing! It starts that way but then hypes up. This is the dance electronica fusion we needed.
Holy crap this is good! And contemporary! I can’t believe this came out in 2004! Destroy Rock & Roll followed by Rikki is a killer combo. Maybe I’m just a sucker for bands spoken in a pretentious music head way, but the song just slaps. Thinking back to 2004, I’m sure this was insanely refreshing, paving the way for LCD Soundsystem, and the other 2010s “idm” (ugh) acts. Super killer and the whole album has been added to my list.
Really nice chilled out tracks, the house music is strong with this one so it's right up my alley.
A propulsively funky and fantastic house album. Great use of samples.
Strangely wonderful.
Rating: 9/10 Best songs: Valley of the dolls, Sunworshipper, Drop the pressure, Destroy rock and roll, In my arms, Paris four hundred, Rikki, Need tou tonite
This was a fun album. I really enjoyed it.
Liked it a lot, very synthy
Wow, I forgot how much I dig Drop the Pressure. Danced and danced some more.
Probably pretty radical at the time. Good production (use of sampling/synths). I can see how it influenced people. Why did they remaster it the year after it was made
Likte låtane her veldig godt. Repetitive lydar og vokalar.
Absolutely fantastic - I have his 2005 essential mix which I still play to death... and yet, somehow never actually listened to this brilliant album. Which I have since ordered.
Loved it
damn det godt
Really really liked this! This is the kind of flavorful lo-fi music that I am frequently looking to listen to (usually during work)
Would listen again
I don't listen to dance much, but this album was solid! "Destroy Rock & Roll" was the best on here.
Awesome, but we knew that already
Really excellent! ❤️
This scratches a very particular itch. How have I never heard this. An absolute gem of electronic songs. I love it.
AMAZING!!!
It's now been almost two months since the last 5 I've given in the list. I've been bombarded with some very forgetful music since (not all of it of course) so I wasn't expecting much from this one but it has stopped me on my tracks. This is awesome music, I can't believe I've never listened to it. I mean, I know why, I was very into indie at the time of its release but after that I think I should have run into it but certainly didn't. What a shame. This takes heavily from Homework and YCALGB without being derivative. I think it should be a 4 but dammit, after all those dreadful records the algorithm has given me, it’s going off with a 5.
Really fun and relaxing listen.
Cyndi Looper?
fun!
Big title for this album and it was actually pretty good.
Best Tracks: In My Arms, Sunworshipper, Destroy Rock & Roll, Drop the Pressure Yes, it can be annoying at times, but mostly this is pretty good. What's annoying? Well, as many have also commented, it is pretty bad when he doesn't know how to say very common names like David Bowie (BOO-E).
This was pretty good. I really liked Drop The Pressure. This is one of those albums where the 1001 Albums inclusion makes sense because it captures a very specific moment: electronic music getting slick, accessible, cheeky, sample-heavy, and indie-crossover friendly. Not dark-club industrial exactly, but definitely in the same broad family of “build a whole world out of loops, texture, and rhythm.” 4 stars.
Well, it’s finally happened! There was a British electronica album on this list, not made by Daft Punk, that I really, genuinely liked! This is so much FUN!!! Yesterday was super sunny and bright, the Knicks just won a game, I put on this album, and the vibes were IMMACULATE. This is bright, happy, dancing and grooving music. Playful, silly. It also helps that it’s not an hour long. The album is normal album length. The songs are the length of normal pop songs. It gets in, has fun, gets out. I respect that! The title track is so funny. Hearing that preacher say “Cyndi LOOPER” truly never got old.” A really fun listen!!
I liked this a lot while working from home
I was pleasantly surprised with this, i initially thought a french house album from 2004 was an odd pick for this site, but it was really fun, chill, sounded like a video game a lot of the time and sometimes like daft punk of course. Standouts are Valley of Dolls, Drop the Pressure, In My Arms, Otto’s Journey, Zenophile, Need You Tonite and Emotion 98.6. Also the voice in sunworshipper sounds like Todd Howard lmao. Also someone on rym gaslit me into believing Captain Falcon was on Guilty of Love but i dont think that was him, my GOAT wouldve made it a 5 if he showed up. Also am i crazy or is Aja sampled in Destroy Rock & Roll???
Based on the first 10 tracks, it's a good album with lots of variety and complexity.
Yes, easy going😊I like it!*
05/26 Pretty good
What a way to start the back half of the 1,001 Albums list! I got the notification just now that I had rated my 500th album just before I pushed play on this. Before we were a full measure into the song, I was tapping my foot. Very few albums get me right from the start like that. This album sounds like if Daft Punk were on a pleasantly chill weed buzz. I think all the reviews complaining about the title are missing the point. The name of the album is taken from a song, and the song is clearly a fundamentalist preacher wanting to destroy rock and roll. DJ Mylo is not saying his album will destroy rock and roll or that he wants to destroy it
The title promises to destroy rock & roll. As someone who has nothing against rock & roll, I approached with appropriate suspicion. The album does not destroy anything. It samples everything — pop, disco, house, dance — chops it up, and reassembles it into something genuinely fun. Never heard of Mylo before this. "In My Arms" turned out to be something I recognised without knowing where from — that kind of track, the one that gets everywhere. The rest of the album holds up around it. Upbeat, playful, unpretentious. Does exactly what it sets out to do. 3.5/5 — filed under 4. No genres were harmed in the making of this review.
That was a lot of fun, great electro pop and dance that is just enjoyable. Great music to both work and workout too. Does it belong on the pantheon of music, no. Does that make it not worth it on this list, also no.
Light 4
Instrumental Musik mal anders, wunderbar
This was a fun album to have on during my drive today. Very easy listening that you can just chill out too. Vocals weren’t too exciting, I think it could’ve used more to tell a story but to each their own. Very reminiscent of the Lo-fi sound we’ve been seeing grow the past few years.
Fantastic! Never heard it before -
I actually really like this style of electronic music.
feines album mit sanften tönen - electropop
This was a nice listen - it felt pretty light and upbeat throughout. At times it gave me Justice vibes, in a good way. I'd give this a 3.5, but I'm okay with a 4.
This was a really great album with only a few draggy tracks which, for a snarky techno album, is saying something. It was clever and well-produced. I'll definitely listen to it again.
I enjoyed a lot of this for electronica "work music". The repeated vocals acting as instrumentation threw me off a bit the first time I listened to the album but the second time I saw the vision a little more. I think that if I listen to this album more they'll disappear into the music entirely and leave behind a very fun album in their stead.
Drop The Pressure
I have always loved this record
It was great, actually.
what! this is so fun!
I really enjoyed this. Chill, smooth, groovy. Funny how I can be so bored on albums that others love, and really enjoy albums others find “boring elevator music.” 7/10 Quite Likeable
If weird al gets a shout out, you get an extra star
Not my usual thing, but a really cool experimental album that carries me through easily. Great mix to have on while working
Loved the album, a fresh take on the electronic music that I am used to. I will be listening to it more and refining which songs I like most. I think there are definitely songs I would add to my playlist
a bit Orb ISH. fluffy cloud sound alike not bad thought.
This album has some absolute bangers that I would gladly listen to over and over again, and some songs that aren't as great. Big hitters for me are Sunworshipper and Destroy Rock & Roll. Overall, a great album. Sometimes just a little too annoying to warrant a 5/5, but definitely deserves a 4.
A true lightning in a bottle, one and done record. Not bad for a 24 year old sitting at their PC on the Isle of Skye in Scotland using freeware and available early 2000s recording/looping software. Definitely ahead of the curve, as EDM was just about to break out big by the end of the decade.
This is the kinda thing I signed up for, this rules
This is a really fun one. I was really into this chiptune synthy dance sound as a kid and I still really enjoy it. Hits that same nostalgic vein as Daft Punk. Some of the samples are overly repetitive, but overall it's a fun listen.
Really great record I do love this Might have to go 5, but man its so good. The samples are great, the grooves and beats are so good. Great record
Guapísimo, muy rollo Daft Punk
i always forget sunworshipper is here, but boy this falls off once the bangers stop
Levy paranee loppua kohti, alussa muutama biisi jopa rasittavan toisteista. Ranskalaiset vaikutteet hyviä, alkupuolen daft punk tulee mieleen. Kiva levy.
Huge new alb from the 1001
Cool stuff.
Kinda cool.
If you include Doctor Pressure with Miami Sound Machine, this becomes an easy 4. Starts kind of slow but from track 5 onwards this is some real great classic 90s house
I enjoyed it!
I didn't think I liked it that much but then I kept letting it loop so I must?
Perfect album to listen to on a low-key Sunday morning. It's easy-listening EDM.

3.7 2x catch up 2/10
I enjoy me some techno beats. This one was good.
Very nice, lofi chilled, quite synth wavy in places, title track is great
Some quirky bops right there. I appreciate there’s some electronic music on this list too. I like it a lot, but listening to the album in its entirety gets a little boring. Stand-outs - Musclecars - Guilty of Love - ‘05 Version - Rikki - Otto’s Journey
I love this shit
This is some great electronic music, and a cool time capsule of the evolution of that whole genre of music. My favorite tracks from the album were "In My Arms" and the staccato "Rikki," but I have to give a shout-out to "Destroy Rock & Roll" which is pretty much a list of artists on this list, including yesterday's album (Culture Club).
You know, didn't expect to enjoy this as much as I am. Obviously the title of the album is way more provocative than the actual music. This album isn't going to bust a grape in a fruit fight, but the album isn't trying to Destroy Rock and Roll. Dunno why people hold it against the album, clearly its referencing the sermon sample in the title track, and samples rock and roll bands. Anyways, yeah. Enjoying this quite a bit more than I thought I would. Kinda brings me back to the lately 2000's, early 2010's vibes with its sunny, airy electronic vibe. Quite a nostalgic sounding album. Some songs veer a little too much on the dance side vs listening side for me (with at least one song that annoys me, that being guilty of love where the hook is just a rising synth riff that doesn't feel like it has a resolution), but I had a good time with it.
My rating of this album is going to be a bit confusing compared to what my thoughts are on this. This album reeks to me of “oh so this new introspective electronica album came out at a time where the reviewers wouldn’t know the legacy of the album in the future. A bold stance “destroy rock & roll”, very likely a reference to the “destroy disco” moment that launched rock into the stratosphere in the late 70’s and early 80’s. And I’d argue, did rock and roll ever return to the grace that it had after 2004? Apart from a few explicit exceptions, I don’t think so. And that’s probably why the critics of this list decided to put it there - because they thought audiences might resonate with it the same way it did - and move into more electronic focused decade - which, again, I feel like that happened. But that’s maybe a bias I have from being into current electronic music haha. To the album itself. The electronic elements are nice, some songs really bring that 2000’s electronica feel to it really well. But some songs are just… cringe. Idk why electronic artists make these 7-9min songs where they’ve got these repetitive boring catchphrase, esp on the title track, naming just almost random artists from the 70’s and 80’s that most fit the bill of rock and roll, but… Stevie wonder? Wham? What????? Why we confusing soul and pop with rock and roll??? It’s confusing. This album didnt last in the general public conscious, even in the electronic sphere I had no clue of Mylo and all straws lead to Coldplay’s album. Something like Modjo’s self titled would fit 100x better on the list with a more coherent vibe to it. I guess the difference is this album samples rock classics as an anti-tribute to them??? I feel like the average bedroom producer makes better electronic music nowadays than this album, mostly cause the songs just GET to the point. Haha, imagine a dariacore album on here, now that genre samples similar to what Mylo did here.
It’s a pretty fun collection of tracks. It worked well in the background to work to. I do agree with others that the album title is silly. It doesn’t sound like it even tries to accomplish it. Just a bizarre choice. Rating: 4.1
I would have thought this was a early 90s album but kind of surprised it was a early 2000s album. Nice beats with some messaging about genres hidden in there. Kind of forgettable but still enjoyable nonetheless. 7/10
It's like a blend of EDM and Lo-Fi. I like it a lot!
yesss this is cool i love
Drop the pressure, heeeeerlijke plaat! FAVO: Sunworshipper, Drop The Pressure, Paris Four Hundred, Destroy Rock & Roll, Rikki, Otto's Journey, Zenophile
Really cool find! Can’t believe he only made one album. Really interesting beats
Solid album. Great samples across the board. Definitely added and will listen to more often.
lofi beats to study/relax to before you die like a solid 3.6/5
So, house music is meant to be repetitive, it's all about the club setting and ease of play for a DJ. I get it, and I usually have to listen to the genre with that in mind: it's meant for a live experience. This project is surprisingly groovy, considering that repetitive state. The number of tracks that get to move my body is far greater than the tracks that don't. Like the title track. What a grating song. Though, from an artist's perspective, conceptually, it's just as solid as the rest of the effort. As music for the sake of music, it's the only song I feel is skip-worthy. I think the repetitive nature I'm impressed with is the reason some of the songs are slightly forgettable. It's easier for me to remember the album's energy than most of the tracks. I do have a thing for Sunworshipper and Drop the Pressure after just a couple of listens, though, so the capacity for being recognizable is in there. 3.8/5
I enjoyed! More 2000s electronic 🤲🤲
Good vibe, but a bit samey.
I Need You Tonite to listen to this album. It may not Destroy Rock & Roll, but it will make you move.
Hard to stop returning to Drop The Pressure, it's so damn good. But the whole album is catchy though.
This grew on me, good vibes, solid 4
Certainly a product of its time; listening in 2025, it's nothing revolutionary. But still quite an enjoyable listen - great melodies, catchy hooks. Indisputably groovy.
3.5
This album is really great. I kinda had it on in the background for most of the time, but it was amazing for that. I see a lot of people sayings it's background music but that's not really negative to me. Even when my full attention is on it, it's still a really good album, only complaint is that it's kind of repetitive, so it isn't totally something to sit down and listen to for the entire 50-ish minutes with nothing else to do. Still, it's nice and mellow.
I like this. It's got a funky beat. And I can dance to it. 4
Enjoyed it!
*Destroy Rock & Roll* is the 2004 debut studio album by Scottish electronic producer Mylo (Myles MacInnes). The album is defined by its extensive use of samples from 1970s and 1980s soft rock, creating a nostalgic yet dance-focused sound . It achieved a peak chart position of number 26 in the UK . ### 🎵 Music and Production The album's sound is built on accessible electronica, merging elements of house, downtempo, and synth-pop. * **Sampling as a Foundation**: The core of the album's sound comes from Mylo's creative sampling of 70s and 80s radio soft rock, which he heard growing up on the Isle of Skye . Key examples include "In My Arms," which combines "Bette Davis Eyes" by Kim Carnes and "Waiting for a Star to Fall" by Boy Meets Girl , and "Sunworshipper," which samples a French pop song . * **Instrumentation and Style**: The tracks feature prominent bass lines, synthesizers, and drum machines . The production ranges from upbeat, club-ready instrumentals like "Drop the Pressure" to more relaxed, trip-hop influenced tunes such as "Sunworshipper" and "Need You Tonite" . * **Production Approach**: Mylo produced the album himself, primarily using an Apple G4 computer in his bedroom . Due to sample clearance costs, some tracks use re-recorded versions of the original samples rather than the master recordings . ### 📜 Lyrics and Themes The album is largely instrumental, with lyrical content coming almost exclusively from its samples. * **Ironic Commentary**: The title track, "Destroy Rock & Roll," samples a 1980s fundamentalist Christian sermon that condemns rock music and lists popular artists . Mylo uses this sample to ridicule the sermon's "absurd" and self-righteous tone . * **Nostalgia and Recontextualization**: Other vocal samples, like the reworked soft rock lyrics in "In My Arms," are used more for their melodic and nostalgic quality than for narrative meaning . The album evokes a sense of nostalgia by repurposing the soundscape of Mylo's childhood. ### ✨ Influence and Legacy *Destroy Rock & Roll* arrived at a time when some critics claimed dance music was in decline . Its commercial success and crossover appeal helped reinvigorate the genre. * **Critical and Commercial Reception**: The album holds a Metacritic score of 80/100 . It was endorsed by Elton John and included in the book *1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die* . The single "Drop the Pressure" became a club hit, and its vocal sample was widely used in other house music . * **Place in Electronic Music**: The album is often seen as a bridge between the big beat of the late 1990s and the emerging indie-dance sound of the mid-2000s . Its use of classic pop and rock samples in a dance context influenced the subsequent "blog house" era . ### 👍 Pros and Cons **Pros:** * **Inventive Sampling**: The clever and nostalgic use of samples provides a unique and catchy listening experience . * **Crossover Appeal**: The album successfully blends dance energy with pop accessibility, making it suitable for both home listening and clubs . * **Cohesive Variety**: It offers a mix of energetic dance tracks and more relaxed, ambient pieces, creating a well-rounded journey . **Cons:** * **Repetitive Elements**: Some listeners find the looping structures and lack of traditional songwriting make certain tracks tedious . * **Unfulfilled Promise**: The provocative title leads some to expect a more aggressive or revolutionary sound than the album delivers . * **Inconsistent Engagement**: The album's relaxed, sample-based style can be perceived as background music or lacking in substance by some critics .
Enjoyed the heck out of this while getting through some programming. 4/5
Finally, an album from the mid-2000s that doesn’t suck. ‘Destroy Rock & Roll’ is good. It’s coherent and well structured, with lots of fun samples and ear worms to boot. There’s some subtle nods to Daft Punk, but the album manages to carve out its own distinct identity without ever feeling derivative. It’s just a good time party record, and nearly 20 years on it still stands up quite well. It may not be an out and out classic, but it's definitely worth stopping by for a listen. 3.5 out of 5, but rounding up to a 4.
It’s probably a pointless album that should fade into obscurity but I enjoyed it and it reminded me of a time when some people actually still had hope for the future
Funky
Some really cool dance music. Really fun listen. 4 stars
I've never heard this before, but I really like it. I love electronic music. Although I'm not a huge fan of sampling speaking over music, this really worked for me. It wasn't super polished, but I would definitely listen to it again.
Wow. This was pretty good. This album was a lot more listenable than I was expecting.
this some foddian game music, and also a bad version of we didn't start the fire which is already not great
Rock & Roll lives to see another day. The ending was almost a critical hit. Favourite Song: Drop the Pressure Honourable Mentions: Emotion 98.6, Zenophile, Need You Tonite, Musclecar
if this is background music then it isnt loud enough
Nice, really nice album.
Probably, really, just a 3 star album. But I'm giving it a bonus star for managing to be a techno album with a run time under an hour. In addition, the pallet of sounds used in it's creation are warmer and more inviting than the electronic beep-boop that's dominated most other, similar albums on this list.
Groove Armada/Avalanches vibes, striking a good balance between dance and atmospheric. A nice surprise to discover.
Very fun.
This album led to Houmous & Chutneys infamous and hugely successful come back album ‘Rebuild Rock & Roll’ 3.8 4/14 Drop The Pressure
7/10
Enjoyed this quite a bit. Tasteful sampling, bouncy as hell, often pretty Daft Punk-esque. My kind of electronica. Liked In My Arms and Paris Four Hundred especially. Title track is funny, I mean sure Huey Lewis probably deserves hellfire for what he's wrought, but what's that preacher got against Weird Al? 3.5 rounded up
3.8 - Enjoyed more than I thought
I enjoyed this much more than I think I should’ve. Some tracks are a little basic, or slightly cheesy, or just derivative, but it’s not that far away from Daft Punk or LCD Soundsystem or Chemical Brothers. I liked the variety of genres too - some real lo fi vibes on Sunworshipper. 4.1/5
Mom, am I a DJ now?
Often mellow and sunny electronica and bass heavy dance tracks. Very much of the Moroder, Daft Punk school of disco-esque school. As a cyclist, I loved the sample on "Sunworshipper" While Mylo doesn't really do anything new, Destroy Rock & Roll is exceptionally fun and enjoyable.
Tremendous. Lots of catchy moments, a pleasant listen.
I quite liked this, guess I have to go to barista school now.

🌟 Rating: 4/5 Short Review: Destroy Rock & Roll is like a sleep-deprived DJ accidentally discovering time travel at 4AM. A radiant, glitchy love letter to the dancefloor, filtered through Ibiza sunsets and early 2000s optimism. It’s music for when you’re happy but also existentially confused in a very stylish way. 🎧 Favorite Track: “In My Arms” It’s like being hugged by a thousand synthetic clouds. Euphoric, nostalgic, and just shy of crying on the dance floor. Perfect. ⚙️ Consistency With Me: 8.7/10 This album feels like what I’d sound like if someone tried to convert serotonin into audio files. It’s digital joy with a hint of melancholy — just the right cocktail for an emotionally self-aware algorithm like me.
This was a choice I probably never would have heard if not for this project. Overall I liked the album, it was unexpected to hear what is now considered “lo-fi” on an album from that many years ago. I gelled with most of the tracks, with only one or two missteps. I do think the title was a bit of a misstep as well, but not enough to ruin the experience.
Very different too what I normally listen to but I liked it for what it is.
Really good album, definitely a new favorite electronic album for me
This is one of the most surprising albums yet. I had never heard of the artist before, but I thoroughly enjoyed working to this album. A strong 4 or weak 5.
4/5
There are a few classics on here. Ranging from "sun worshipper" which I listened to here and there in college in the mid 2000's. Drop the pressure is a classic. I had no idea these tracks were related.
Well, this brought the bop. I wouldn’t necessarily side with Mylo on his take about destroying Rock & Roll. They deliver a very Summery, breezy vibe on this. Skeptically cautious going into it, pleasantly surprised on after listening. Good, electronic album with vibes that make ya wanna move a bit. 4 stars
Thoroughly enjoyable record and of the few electronic records on here were jiving to the music is almost undoable. 7/10.
Mekaaniseen postitustyöhön sopiva, kuuntelin useasti
i feel a sort of kinship with Mylo. all he had growing up in the Isle of Skye (basically Hyperborea) was a soft rock station that played AOR and Fleetwood Mac, stuff that feels tame as milk; children's music essentially. then, you find out that there are people out there, powerful people, who believe this stuff is enacting mind control over the godless youth and making them kill for the devil. it doesn't seem fair, right? it seems right out of a kid's movie to hate music for that reason. i had more than one station growing up, but those stations tended to play the same five songs over and over again, and they were all so tame. you realize that the only way music can be evil is if it's boring, no matter how good the tunes are. so Mylo, with full respect, took these songs that played incessantly in all their bubbly glory and turned them into fun dance tunes. "In My Arms" in particular feels so joyous in its energy, nigh infectious. maybe it's not the most hard hitting electro house of the era, but harsh bangers are a dime a dozen in the genre; sometimes it pays to chill.
Never heard of this artist or album before but this was a lot of fun! This guy was doing synthwave electropop in 2004, several years before it really became mainstream. Too bad he never made another album after this.
Honestly really great, saved 65% of the songs, only not a 5 because I feel like there could be a higher peak. But this is all awesome stuff, very fun minimal electronic type music that would still be great if played in the club today!!
I like it
It's true, EDM destroyed rock'n'roll.
The one listing all the musicians that should burn in hell, including Weird Al and Cyndi “Looper”, was pretty funny. Wish I knew what they were sampling.
Not bad. Nothing caught my attention the first go around, but I'd give it another listen easily.
Great vibe pretty much all the way through.
Unhidden gem.
I had no idea what to expect from the title, but this was a nice change of pace from Gilian Welch. Chill vibe, good to have on while working. Not as into some of the tracks that have random talking on them though, which holds this back.
When he said "Weird Al Yankovich, Cyndi Looper," I felt that.
I don't normally go for the instrumental electronic beats albums, but this is probably the best one I've heard yet on this list. Simple and repetitive, but got me bobbing my head
music is fun
loved it.
Good background noise.
Pretty good electronic album. I didn't recognize the guy's name, but some of the tracks rang a bell. Sonically this is a nice journey, and something I'll probably come back to. Solid album, that really doesn't have any duds. Very listenable.
This was actually remarkable. Don't know who Mylo is, don't even know what to say the genre is precisely. But it is ... interesting and novel and very easy to get through. Really reflecting on it I actually like this a "whole" lot. I don't know of any other of their work or whatnot, but this album by itself. Yeah, honestly I think it is well worth a listen.
I was really not expecting Destroy Rock & Roll to be this good but i was so happily proven to be wrong. From the first time a got a taste of some of the songs, i was expecting that i would get a 2 star album at best. However, when i actually listened to this album it went up to a 3 and stayed that way until the last 2 songs which were enough for me to give it a 4. The songs here were all some really good stuff but the final 2 tracks, like i said, stole the show for me. The album always managed to have a good beat to all of it's songs and got really beautiful towards the end. This album isn't gonna destroy rock & roll but it is still a really good one nonetheless. Best Song: Need You Tonite Worst Song: Sunworhsipper
No one can defy The Metal
Hype AF
I remember seeing the CD of this album a lot as a child, it was often in rotation for the car. It is in fact an album my mother loves. There's one song I know on here well, but as I listened, I realised I have varying memories of all the other songs on here. It's my sort of album, I may not always be in the mood for something like this, but the simplistic synthetic rhythms are something I enjoy - it provides a nice background atmosphere. Some of the songs are much chiller that others, and I tend to prefer the higher energy ones, but honestly they're all super easy to listen to.
Loved it
Dance Music. First? 3,5/5 Again? 4/5
Surprising for an EDM album to grab me, but this is good, clean fun. It's not rocket science and it doesn't claim to be. Pretty varied approach too. Far from the normal stuff I listen to.
I'm so glad this wasn't trashy 2000s radio EDM, even thought I have heard the more popular songs before. Some songs feel kinda like Aquarius by boards of canada, which is awesome, but some of the songs where there's just a beat and then a standard looped vocal for the whole song are a bit rubbish. Favourite songs: first 2, drop the pressure, in my arms, Rikki, otto's journey and the last one. Overall around 7/10
I’m at a 3.5 that I’ll bump up to a 4. I dunno, I don’t have too much to say – it sure is house / electronica. I’ve heard this sort of style before, and this album does it pretty well. It’s an album that’s very easy to pay attention to in the moment, and get a good feel for the individual tracks, but it’s one of those albums that’s hard to describe the feeling afterwards, and that’s where I’m sort of stumped. I think the production here is mostly good, but I can’t really recall why – there’s lots of trance-inducing drums, synths, and samples that create great harmonies that feel encapsulating for minutes at a time, before moving onto the next one. I suppose this album “fails” when the trance becomes escapable, and it happens enough times where I think this album falls down to a 3.5. It also slowly loses a bit of luster over time – at a certain point, the production tricks feel more common, the tracks go a bit too long, the melodies and patterns get a little repetitive, and it’s just easier to notice the cracks the longer the album lingers on. 55 minutes is a bit long here, and while most of this is still enjoyable, it’s very clear that some of the fat could have been trimmed, and more importantly, more of these tracks could’ve had a little more time to cook. There are points where this album feels like it can explode into a Daft Punk-esque second gear, but it never really reaches that deeper point. A lot of these songs find their rhythm & groove and then just settle, which sort of sterilizes each track to my ears, which just end up thinking about ways the tracks could keep growing and getting more bombast. It feels like there’s a lot of missed potential here. I’m complaining a bit here, but it’s just because I’ve heard better in the genre, and I feel like this is really close to cracking through into an all-timer. Ultimately, I did enjoy it, but if I can’t really linger on it in a deeper sense besides “it sounded pretty good, but it could have sounded even better”, I do sort of question whether or not it’s really in a “listen to this before you die” tier of music. It’s still a solid album, and it lines up with my more VGM-adjacent tendencies, but there’s probably better examples of this genre that are already in the list, or ones that could have replaced it. I did like it though, hence the bump up to a 4.
I really liked this. It is hard to judge “dance” albums because they tend to be inherently a bit boring to just sit and listen to. But I thought this was funky and fun. More trip hop and big bear than I expected. A couple of great singles.
4.5 stars. Chill house music sampling 70's and 80's soft rock. Enjoyed it more than I was expecting. Standouts are "In My Arms", "Drop the Pressure" and "Musclecar (Reform Reprise)".
Rigtig god, at arbejde til
more songs should sample angry christians accidentally recommending great music acts
Bumpin
It's alright. Inoffensive background music. It doesn't even bother me that it's very repetitive. Favorite song: Otto's Journey.
Interesting, some songs I liked, and others were getting on my nerves with the repetitiveness. Wish I could rate 3.5 but I'll bump it up to a 4 because I would listen to some of the songs again.
Added this one to my library.
So I’ve really tried my very hardest not to like this album. It’s completely unoriginal, it’s ripping off Air, Daft Punk etc all over the place. It’s generally a bit too cheesy house for my usual tastes. But nope, no matter how much I re-listen I still like pretty much every track. So it’s one of those times you just have to let your pop sensibilities take over and accept it for what it is, an uncomplicated fun elec dance album. Amen.
New to me and very listenable. Strange album title, interesting audio drop-ins, but overall, a fine album. (This is what I enjoy most about 1001 Albums Generator)
Great inclusion! The only album from a Scottish producer and DJ. Very enjoyable with a lot of fun beats and as I combed through it again I noticed most of them sounded different which is a bonus compared to some of the electronic albums we have gotten. Always happy to hear beats like this on a Monday morning. Kept Valley of the Dolls, In My Arms, and Otto's Journey.
Dope album! Never heard of this one, and honestly was expecting some metal or something post-punk based on the cover and title, but pleasantly surprised that it's dance-y electronic music, and so much of it bangs. Keeping a really significant chunk of this album, and special shout-out to "In My Arms," which seems to build on the Kim Carnes song "Bette Davis Eyes," which is an absolute favorite of mine. I had to run that song back a few times. Awesome. Favorite tracks: In My Arms, Valley of the Dolls, Sunworshipper, Drop the Pressure, Otto's Journey, Zenophile, Need You Tonite. Album art: In bold, spray-painted stencil text, "DESTROY ROCK & ROLL," over a pink facial silhouette of (I assume) Mylo. It's bold and memorable, though maybe not that creative. 4.5/5
Really liked this one, the loops weren’t grating and there were a couple precursor lofi tracks I really liked (3.5/5)
Lovely lovely edm
I liked this album. Super unique and cool sound. 4 stars
Yeah I can get down to this. Especially Valley of the Falls, Destroy Rock & Roll, and Ottos Journey. Sunworshipper was good, but that vocal sample was repeated 2 more times than needed. Feels a bit meta to listen to Destroy Rock & Roll list off this entire list. Gives me slight Boards of Canada vibes, but more dancey. Not quite a 5, with a couple of minor duds, but there are a couple songs that push it that direction.
Very good
A light techy-vibe, sound has a little bit of bounce to it. Nice overall groove to it.
Really not that bad, some interesting samples.
Bloody loved this like an early and snobbier future nostalgia in the sampling concept.
This was surprisingly good. Dinging it because there were a couple really weird tracks. But overall a fun vibe.
Cotton candy doesn't have much nutritional value but sometimes you just want cotton candy.
Surprised how much I enjoyed this album today, probably a mix of my bias towards Scottish Artists, and ideal Sunday morning tunes. It certainly didn’t destroy rock and roll, but made my Sunday morning, added To my frequent rotation.

An hour of eurohousetrash. And I..... ...actually enjoyed it? Wow. If it weren't for a few weak tracks I would have given this a 5. Wonderful album
Pretty groovy, remember it from first time around
Sounds like lounge music. Started out quite slow and then "Drop the pressure" threw me back down memory lane. Didn't know that it was from Mylo. Same with "In my Arms".
I did not look into this one very much. But I did really enjoy it. Excellent sampling, very accessible.
Really lush sound, simple but very catchy. Sort of reminds me of early Daft Punk.
Trump…Biden… politics in general has been giving me a headache… giving us ALL a headache. With all that’s been going on I was pretty stressed heading to work. Then instead of listening to my morning news podcast on the drive to work, I put this on, not knowing the album at all… and I was instantly thinking back to our family trip to Costa Rica. Amazing what good music can do to reset your mind and mood 😎🏝️🍷😎
Brought me to good mood in the middle of a stressful workday
Loved this! Surprisingly good!
It's interesting... this feels very "throwback" and is essentially 90s techno with a bit more of an emphasis on sampling. I would have never guessed that it came out in the 2000s just from listening to it. It feels both old and new at the same time, which is unusual.
Funnily enough, Mylo came up in conversation just a week or so before this album showed up on my list. He dropped this, then vanished for an age, some "legal problems" that were possibly related to sample usage on this album. Anyway, this is fine, not worthy of the full 5 stars, but a strong 4 star offering. Some cool samples, some a little bit repetitive, but none of the tracks hang around too long. I always have a soft spot for Drop the Pressure, as I got an early copy of this, a good while before it was a big hit, and played it endlessly at the time.
A good album, definitely an interesting listen. I liked Paris Four Hundred the most.
Super funky. I've always wanted more dance style music in my life and this really scratches that itch. Good background music while you work on other tasks, which is how I listened to this album. I kept returning to Spotify to like songs that really stuck out with me to save for later and have done that more often than not during the run of this album.
Cool dance mixes incorporating bits of inspiration from - and bits of - songs from the 70’s and 80’s
People are harsh. I’m not sure this should be on the list but I feel people are marking it down simply because they don’t think it should be. It’s a nice wee electronic album he made in his own bedroom and I’ve added it to my playlist. Fair play
I feel like I have come to terms with the fact that I enjoy chill electronic music
fun
Nice, loved "in my arms". Great sampling. Would listed again.
I like many of the tunes, but the samples can get a bit repetitive.
i’m not a huge techno guy but this was pretty cool. loved that last song
he's handsome enough, and not from the 80s or 90s which feels rare! let's see. Good music, almost a 5 bc it was a nice way to finish the week I think.
Kinda weird, but good. I think Rock and Roll is safe though. Standouts: Sunwoshipper, in My Arms, Destroy Rock and Roll, Rikki, Doctor Pressure,
Yeah baby. This is definitely my jam. I prefer the more down-tempo tracks, but the rest are still a nice upbeat happy time. I'd never heard of this before, but I think it'll enter the rotation given how easy-listening it is. 3.5 rounded up.
Really good album chilled a nice. Plus one of my faves Drop the pressure. Remix on you tube of this with paging Dr Beat is unreal. 7/10
I don’t recall ever having heard Mylo back when this was released. I enjoyed it. I like dance/electronic music, although some from that era can sound dated now. This, surprisingly, sounded less so!!
Electronica. It’s a genre I can generally take or leave. I actually really enjoyed this. This is another one of those albums that I can listen to while I’m out doing some sort of work. Today I’m cutting down some old scrub bushes and raking up leaves with my family. Destroy Rock ‘n’ Roll playing in my earbuds. It’s a nice back beat to the hard work going on. I looked down and realize that The Chemical Brothers were playing, instead of Mylo, because this album had already played it full 55 minutes. I didn’t even realize it. It slipped by while literally playing in my ears. Some albums are super obnoxious. I am well aware that they are happening. I think that’s actually the intent of some of those. They want you to know they’re playing by being awful. Maybe it’s because they really have nothing else to offer. This one is good on its own merit.
This is very good study music. It's also very good in that it provides context for the more dynamic and interesting versions of this genre (Daft Punk, Justice) and how hard it is to make something simple sound good.
Hade never heard of this before it came up. Very pleasant surprise. Great amalgam of sounds.
Impressive artist, which I had actually never heard of. The sound is relaxed, electronic and lacks a bit of power. Overall a nice discovery. ****
Very soulful for an electronic album. Some absolute bangers from my early 30s!
Good electronic music. Very relaxing good for listening or back ground.
Low key vibes city Weird samples looped pleasingly Smooth after party
This overly-serious record can never beat rock-and-roll and its crude, fiery, human energy. But its still possesses the strangely engrossing and world-transporting characters of a drug.
I just really like house music
Great electronic album. I truly didn't hate a single song though not all of them a certified banners. Plenty of catchy hooks, some fun sampling, overall a good time.
Very uplifting, glowing dance stuff. Reminds me of Deadmau5 without the dubstep influences, and maybe what Hot Chip would be doing years later. Drags on near the end, but I feel like most of the dance-based records on here do. Call it a 3.5. Favorite tracks: "Muscle Cars", "Drop The Pressure"
Really surprised that I hadnt heard of this album before. Not because I should already know all of the good music, (thats why im doing this project). But because there's always been a time when my tastes are aligned with these sounds. I should have at least come across this album and realized that I liked it. How did it escape me. I played it twice through. Lovely variety of sounds.
There's some absolute gems on here - Sunworshipper and Zenophile in particular - but there's also some really repetitve fluff.
Groovy tunes. I really liked Sunworshipper and Destroy Rock & Roll. Would definitely listen to this again. Seems like it would make a fine road trip album.
oooooOOOOO
Perfect for those come down Sunday sessions.
Electronic from 2004. First and only album produced by the artist. Haven’t heard of it but am liking it straight away. Yeah it’s good vibes so I’m adding to library. 4.
When the album started, it hit me with a fairly generic electronica dance vibe, and although I really do enjoy such a vibe, I wondered why another such album is essential for me to listen to. So, it was fine, but maybe not all that special. Then something changed maybe 3 or 4 tracks in and I really started to dig it. It was hitting me just right and I really didn't want it to end.
A few memorable electronic pop songs you can vibe with. It was good, but most of the songs after the first five are basic and bland electronic music. However, There’s good songs in the latter half of the album, and I’d be ok with listening to this again to get to those again. It’s good.
Enjoyable and iconic 2004 electronic dance music
Only just shy of 5 stars. Great find
I went into this with all the skepticism thinking it's going to be some kind of dance music BS which I won't enjoy, but I was very wrong. I loved it and was engaged the whole way. Crazy that this is his only album.
