Made it half way through. Not half bad.
Gets annoying rather quickly
Wow, that sure was weird, intense, experimental. It had sine high points, but ultimately kind of jarring and annoying. A lot of cool things happening with instrumentation, there’s industrial, reggae, new wave, post punk, I hear Japanese drums, synths, weird distortion. I hear the roots of cure, echo abd the bunny men, devo, B-52s. I have trouble trying to imagine what context I’d like to listen to this album. They’re doing really interesting things, but the singer is annoying. C

Likely influential
A slow album. I hadn't really listened to Bauhaus before and I was really into the instrumentals, but the lyrics is where it broke down for me. The singing never seemed more than something that was tacked on. It was slow, not very melodic and didn't really flow. A very monotone style on top of some interesting sounds. It just fell flat for me. At times it seems like he was just trying to cram too many words into the songs narrative ("tge passion of lovers"). It all started of great the screeching guitars and nice drum beats ("hair of the dog") but once the singing started I lost interest. Overall an ok album.

Lyrics were hard to discern and I don't like that. There were a couple of cool riffs but apart from that music was not my style.

I'm a fan of 'In the Flat Field' and 'The Sky's Gone Out' but this just bores me. Am I missing something? Who knows but I've tried several times over the years to see if I just wasn't in the right mood or whatever and the result is the same, I wake up by the end of it and wonder where were the hooks, where was that sudden jolt into ah ha, but no. Nothing.

Bauhaus – Mask (1981) On Day 91, this LP was a complete miss for me. I usually listen while doing other things, and if a project is interesting, it catches my ear—but this one never did. The entire time, I was left wondering what I was even listening to, as I couldn't find a single idea or hook to grab onto. The production and vocals failed to be immersive or memorable, making it a project that simply isn't for me. A definitive 1/5.

This album wasn’t for me at all - the echoey vocals and the lyrics which are overwrought and pretentious. I liked the guitar on some tracks but could have done without the sax. I was hoping I’d like this album but mostly it annoyed me.

Goth Rock is one of those things you either Stan or hate to your core. This one falls on the latter side of that for me.
Who hurt them? And why did they then have to go and hurt me? This sucks. I really don't like anything about this. Well, I shouldn't say anything. The end of Mask is kind of cool, and that's enough to be my favorite song on this album. But this is a hard skip. Favorite Song(s): Mask

Mask feels like expecting a Gourmet meal made by Gordon Ramsay, but instead getting a soggy idiot sandwich that tastes like cardboard. The album is bland, badly produced and if you listen carefully, you can even hear the instruments begging for a raise. I'm sorry, but this has no place in this list.

Do you need to put on black lipstick, a heavy overcoat and get a really bad haircut to get into this? The old mod in me says no, no, no,no,no,no and no to the thought of engagin with this shit. This album is absolutely terrible, but in a way that just made me laugh out loud. To be honest, I couldn’t finish the whole thing, but the few tracks I did hear I was about to roll on the floor from laughter.
I was not a fan of the hooting and hollering that went on within this album. It was also a drag and annoyed me quite a bit.
Man I was really not vibing with this album at all. I’m not even sure if there was anything in here that made me think this was good. No redeeming qualities. Hated it. Counting the seconds until it ended.

Annoyingly incoherent, not very melodic Post Punk. I wanted to turn it of mostly during listening.
Vocals drove me nuts. It was a like a punkier version of Fred Schneider shouting over a bizarre mix of Sonic Youth, The Cure, and Depeche Mode. Some people might really enjoy that. Not me. 1 star.

I don’t care how influential a band is. This is awful. Kick in the eye 2 is the only decent song otherwise this would be a zero for me. Hated it.
I think the style of vocals here is annoying / stupid. I also think that the music itself verges on annoying. This also failed the headache test for me, meaning that I got one by the conclusion of the album. Didn't care for it.

The run of awful albums continues. How the fuck did this end up on the list? I have a rule that if I listen to the whole album it gets 2 stars - and while I did make it the whole way through, I did so while composing a couple of emails complaining to companies that have messed up dealings with me. The true awfulness of the music was obscured by my pre-occupation!

I didn't connect with this album at all. I thought it was sloppy, poorly produced, and downright incoherent at times. Not a very enjoyable listen either.
Did not like this at all, not for me. Wasn't impressed with the songwriting, instrumentation, vocals, or anything.
Effectively the bridge between the B52s and NIN. What are we doing here? If I never heard this again that would be indication of a life well led.

My introduction to "goth rock". A little too dark, gloomy and down for me. I expected this would be closer to heavy metal and post-punk than it actually is. At least there is some effort to be experimental rhythmically (some ska) and melodically, but the lyrics are opaque (fishcakes??) and when not opaque they are kinda dark. The surreal instrumental, "Satori", that closes the album is mesmerizing and intriguing. Still, this is definitely not my thing. Especially an entire hour. Non stop. I need some daylight now...

i wouldn't consider mask by bauhaus a great or even good album, but i found myself weirdly interested in it. sometimes it was a mess of distorted music, but sometimes it was quite normal punk rock! it could be gothic at times, too. the vocalist left something to be desired. a disjointed album that had no flow. i don't know why it's on this list, to be honest.

Well this was certainly a trip.....I had to keep checking if this was the album we were suppose to listen to and didn't switch over to some acid trip collaboration created by Spotify. Didn't really enjoy but damn there was some serious weird stuff. At least it wasn't the Dead or Dylan and for that, I'll give the extra .5 1.5 but scored a 1
