Reviews (page 6 of 8)

It was fine but probably would not listen again

Another blandly inoffensive rock album - this one with a grungy flavor. Pretty forgettable, unfortunately.

Much better than expected.

3,5. Mjög góðir kaflar, náði lítilli tengingu. Önnur umferð.

Not as bad as I thought it would be based on the album art and a vague memory of screaming trees from the past.

Auch beim 2. Hören bleibt es irgendwie belanglos. Bis auf die kleine Melodie bei Sworn and Broken : Come January ...

It's a fine album, and it actually was nice to listen to something from the 90s, but overall this album screams mid.

One to listen to again, I didn’t give it enough attention yet.

It’s ok, I like the guitar work, it’s just unnotable. Good songs and all but it doesn’t stand out.

Honestly, not a bad album. Just didn’t really do anything for me.

Nothing too exciting here

First song is really good.. But then it sounded like a default 90s album for 40 minutes. It is not bad, It is just... Standard.

Was excited by this because it was grunge but this is bottom tier grunge for me. Not necessarily bad but just boring

Never heard of this band before despite it being my era. Enjoyed the album. Would listen again

Lanagen is the shit. Solid rock album.

Decent 90s rock. If all the songs were like Witness, I would have liked it much more. Definitely like the last half of the album better.

This is the 90s alt rock version of a glass of warm milk.

Started strong, ended as boring dad rock

Hadn't previously heard. Nice.

some solid grungy goodness

I dig Screaming Trees, but I don't think I've listened to this album before. The first half is pretty bland, but the back half saved the album for me. I wondered why this was on the list, then I saw that Kerrang selected it as the best album of the year. I've seen the criticism that the 1001 albums book is very British-centric and I think there's maybe some weight to that argument.

A time capsule for the mid-90s.

Better than I expected! I could see this growing on me like Westin singing Alice In Chains all the time has made me like Alice In Chains. Ultimately it’s a solid rock album. Slay.

Pretty good. I like some grunge but Screaming Trees had passed me by - only really know Lanegan from his work with QOTSA.

Not bad, not great.

Perfectly fine - but somewhat banal at the same time. Nothing particularly stood out during the album. 3* because 2* feels a bit harsh!

Simpatico. Mi immagino un grindcoredeathmetal dalla copertina.

3.0 average which makes sense as it seemed very average.

Sounded like the prequel to nickelback

Halo of ashes sounds like buckley meets bends era radiohead. Love sworn and broken- alt rock, grunge pacabels canon. Also really like witness. Dime western is apocalyptic. Wasnt expecting a gospel cover for a finisher

Pedestrian

Faves: All I Know, Look At You and Dime Western

I felt transported by this album a calm and relaxing place

didn’t hate this. Never heard of these fellas before

This is the pure juice of the 90s. I can't say I dislike it, though. Especially the last songs of the album are quite interesting.

A solid if unspectacular album, wish I had heard this when it first came out…it may have stuck with me more.

Very 90s

Alles in allem ganz nett

Nothing exceptional about this album. Was fine

3/5. Really fun album from a band I’ve never heard of. But that’s the reason we do this, right?

It was alright

I don't really know why this is on the list. Musically, it seems heavily inspired by 70s rock. The vocal style doesn't seem to fit, and it clearly did not catch on in the alternative genre.

For the most part the album is enjoyable, the songs are catchy and it's competently performed. Somewhat surprisingly, this is the Screaming Tree's 7th studio album (in 10 years) released in 1996, so the band was around pre-Grunge era. I like it, though there isn't anything innovative or edgy about the record and it's sound is so dated, late 80's/90's it doesn't stand out. Not essential, there are a lot more records you should listen to from this time period.

Liked it a bit more than Nirvana

Degelijke rock :). Erg goede stem.

A very solid 90s alternative rock album, dusted with the grunge vibe but with great vocals courtesy of Mr Lanagan and solid songs. Enjoyed this.

Started slow, couldn't really think why it was on the list, but it developed well and definitely grew on me. 3.5/5

Didn’t find any standouts here.

Grunge, rock lentillo. Ni fu ni fa.

Solides Album. Es gibt aber bessere Screaming Trees Alben. 3-4

that last album...

Never heard of the Screaming Trees before. It was okay, a little bland, the vocals weren't great, but some of the guitar was quite nice. I liked the folky touches here and there, but the vocals killed it for me I'm afraid. Average overall.

Before today, I'd never heard of the Screaming Trees before. From my research, they are an alt rock /grunge band from the 90's. Upon listening to this album, that's exactly what they are. But so much so, that they are almost indistinguishable from so many other bands like them from that era. Bands like Pearl Jam, Tea Party, Temple of the Dog, and Mudhoney did this sound so much better than these guys. One interesting factoid about these guys is that their touring guitarist for this album, Josh Homme, later went on to be the frontman of Queens of the Stone Age. Overall, a fairly average 90's alt rock band. Not the best I've ever heard, and nothing about these guys sets them out from the shit load of other bands doing the same thing at that time. I will probably never listen again for that reason, there are so many better bands. Favourite songs: Witness, All I Know, Look At You, Sworn and Broken, Gospel Plow Least favourite songs: Traveler, Halo of Ashes 3/5

Another one deceiving album cover. A sheep in wolf’s clothing. Sounds nice and unpretentious

Not bad

Decidedly average rock music. I've listened to this album a few times over the years, but can never remember a single hook, melody or lyric. Lanegan's voice is pretty cool, but all these tunes are just so average and non-offensive.

This wasn't terrible, but it was forgettable.

The northwest grunge scene was never my thing but this has some pretty good stuff. It's 3½ stars but I can't bring myself to round up to 4.

Yk what I surprisingly enjoyed this album: the guitar sounded nice with a nice range emotions between songs, it was missing the typical rock bangers but I can see myself listening to this again.

Rating: 6/10 Best songs: All I know

Surprised this one's on here but not Sweet Oblivion. Honestly I don't think any of their songs are as iconic as "Nearly Lost." These are fine tracks, very much influenced by contemporary power pop and grunge with feelings of despair, and I'm sure I can hear Jane's Addiction in their incorporation of psychedelia (particularly the sitar, keyboards, and different percussions) with hard rock. There were only a few tracks that didn't stand out at all or had some instrument gimmick like in "Sworn and Broken." Hearing tracks like "Dime Western" reminds me of Lanegan's creative peak on Qosa's Songs for the Deaf, and sets another bar that this record fails to reach. The biggest surprise highlight for me was the psychedelic closer "Gospel Plow."

Dust is the seventh album by Screaming Trees and the last album of new material by the band. This hard rock/grunge album received good reviews by critics and charted modestly. The music on this album was influenced more by folk and blues than the previous albums that took inspiration from psychedelic rock and punk rock. I had never heard of this band before listening to this album, and I think they created a wonderful album here. Any fan of hard rock music should like this album, so I recommend it. Dust was a great album for the band to end with.

A great album to listen to - never listened to them previously. Great history behind the album and band, as well. 3/5

Less screaming than advertised. A sideline player in the 90s grungey bluesy scene. I'd just call it rock these days. Pretty easy listen.

I prejudged this as being some sort of death metal by an objectionable band. It was actually pretty okay, a bit generic in parts, but okay.

Pretty mid tier 90s rock. Not bad but not special.

Hints of Dinosaur Jr, but without the virtuosic guitar riffs. Not a bad listen, but not all that remarkable either.

This was another offering that was a complete mystery to me. On the surface, Dust is a collection of very 90s songs. However, the control of that sound is impressive. Clear, guitar licks that build and accompany the vocals. Drum fills reminiscent of Ringo. One of the standout tracks on Dust is "Sworn and Broken," which features a memorable hook and a killer keyboard solo that will get stuck in your head for days. It does lack a certifiable hit though. Something to hang your hat on. Overall, Dust is a cohesive and well-crafted album that was ultimately overlooked (at least by me) and deserves a place in the grunge era conversation.

Not one single tree liars

Kinda pretty i guess but pretty damn boring too. Does have its high parts but a lot of it sounds the same

Solid rock! Good riffs and some memorable choruses.

Well I like a couple of Mark Lanegan albums, Bubblegum, Blues Funeral. Never really listened to Screaming Trees. Not sure this will be essential but it'll probably be worth a listen. There's a real feel of The Beatles 'Love You To' lingering in the background of the opener, and its not just the sitar, the melody too. Hmm, the rest is fine but unremarkable 90s alternative grunge-tinged rock. His solo albums are better. To be fair, I don't think any of his albums are classics, but they all have a few great songs on them. Hit the City, Ode to Sad Disco, Leviathon. Whereas I can't really pick much to stand out of this album.

Some good songs on this one

average classic rock vocals are not it imo

Well done, but fairly uninspiring, indie rock.

This is a lost gem for me! I've heard of this band but only really their big single and that one album! Mark Lanegan is amazing, should get a lot more shine than he did! Very solid rock record that breaks out of the grunge label

Not my favourite Screaming Trees album, but has solid cuts like ”Sworn and Broken” and ”Traveler”. R.I.P. Mark Lanegan

Thought I'd hate this actually kind of enjoyed. however didn't massively stand out. 3.3

2.5 Average. Best Songs: Look at You, All I Know

its a solid sounding album but i don't see why it is remarkable

I wanted to like this a bit more than I did. I mean... it's ST so I'm bound to like it, but I think I'm a hard customer for this type of music since I've had such extended exposure to it growing up in Washington.

Classic 90s

Not bad but It makes me feel like I’m Combo from Breaking Bad.

Ordinary light weight rock. Nothing stood out as exceptional, and nothing jarred my hearing. Basically it passed by without catching my attention in any significant way.

Pretty middle of the road album, not sure why this was included

Music is fine, but not very interesting.

Pretty decent album but not that special, there's some other grunge I definetely find more interesting/inventive

It started out very generic but I somehow got in the flow halfway to the album and enjoyed it quite a bit.

Decent listen. Probably won't remember much of this in a day.

Like I didn't hate this but I didn't love it either. I listened twice to be sure. I feel unmoved. Just felt like standard rock, would be fun on a drive I imagine. I didn't think it was special though

Gives off a sounds that seems like they should be more popular or talked about. Solid creative 90s rock. Not mind blowing, but better than many.

Serviceable but not terribly inspiring mid-'90s grunge/alternative. Apparently in a good mood today, so rounding up from 2.5.

noniin. alku oli samaa kikkeli kokkeli humpti dumpti pippeli poppeli rock musiikkia jota voi jokainen jolla kaksi aivosolua tallella niin vittu kirjoittaa varmasti voin garage bändillä tehdä saman tempun vittu vartissa. sitten kuuntelin lyriiikoita.... kristinusko imageryä... hyvä.....plussat siitä!! ja albumin tokaosa oli tosiaan paljon kiinnostavampampaa musiikkia jota kelpaa kuunnellakkin, pelasti tosiaan albumin ja gospel plow

Like Nirvana and the Goo Goo Dolls had an illegitimate love child. Not my kind of thing at all. Can’t really believe these guys were considered grunge. Not an awful album musically or anything, just not my thing and none of the songs have much to say or hit particularly deep in my opinion.

It was like radiohead featuring Bono as the singer

Requires a few listens, I think.

Pretty good

bien o sea 7/10

perfectly average songs with a great singer

pretty good :)

Maybe 4 stars, gotta listen again

Thoroughly enjoyable. It’s pretty original, but I can see why I’ve never heard of them. 3/5

I'm not trying to be hyper-critical here, but I don't know why this album is in the list of 1001 Albums to Listen To Before You Die. I know it's a high number of albums, but this record is just fine. It isn't bad, but it's also not great and sounds like most every Grunge / Early Alternative Album of the era, and it wasn't the first of its kind either. After reading about the album and group, it's interesting, but hardly remarkable.

Generic Seattle sound grunge indie rock stuff. It was completely non offensive.

Too much of a pre-grunge band doing post-grunge thing.

Not really my cup of tea.

I like Screaming Trees, but this is an odd pick. This album was released after the heyday of grunge (although this album isn't purely what you'd think of as grunge) and doesn’t include their best-known song (Nearly Lost You).

Never thought the Trees were the best creative outlet for Lanegan (see solo stuff, qotsa, mad season, etc. for that). A lot of this is pretty straightforward...power chords, dropped tuning. Etc. No great musicians aside from Martin (drummer). It's fine/good.

Grungy, with some different elements thrown in (some middle-eastern sounding stuff). Not too exciting

Ágætis plata.

Decent nineties grunge-pop. Nice instrumentation and arrangements sometimes, like the Indian/oriental psychedelic flavours of the opener or "Dime Western". Or the church organ of "Sworn And Broken", and that mellotron (?) on "Traveler". Plus Mark Lanegan's presence, even though he was not at the top of his game yet. Is it an essential listen, though? Too many of these songs sound like each other for that, and the rhythmic patterns overuse a kind of dated rock groove that didn't age that well in that overall genre, all things considered. Number of albums left to review: less than 780. Number of albums I'll keep on my own list: half so far, approximately. Number of albums I might keep: a quarter. Number of albums I won't keep: another quarter (including this one)

new music less of a meh

Ça m'a donné envie d'écouter du Queens Of The Stone Age.

Boring, generic, not for me. But I guess its about average.

A few bangers. Can smell the leather car interiors of the 90’s and stubbly chinned relationship breakdown deceit

Best song is All I Know, the rest is a very competent rock album. 3/5

I enjoyed it

Decent grunge/90's rock that I was previously unfamiliar with. 3.5/5

Feels like a predecessor to what '20's rock would turn into. Reminds me of Red Vox and Collective Soul. Good vocals and varied sound.

Classic 90s album

A pretty easy listening grunge album, not bad

Sounds a little like Alice in Chains

I really enjoy screaming Trees, I never heard this before. I reallylike the song Nearly lost you. Very 90's Love his voice.

I enjoyed this album. Loved the singers voice. Very unique. He actually died recently.

i listened but have since forgot abit. it was def indie. and i thought it sounded fine. might relisten later...

I kinda liked this but it felt pretty generic. I've just finished it and I can barely recall any of the songs

Odotin aika paljon raskaampaa rockia kannen perusteella. Mut ihan jees, niukasti 3/5.

The tail end of the grunge movement flirts with folk and blues and produces something pleasantly listenable, though not particularly groundbreaking. Screaming Trees’ final album points to the direction rock music would take going into the new millennium.

didn't love or hate it. Like The One I Love, and shoutout for making a song called Exhuming McCarty probably about Reagan/Bush folks. Glad I didn't live through the 80s... For the poliitcs, and also because the music kinda bland.

Bop: All I know guitar is heavy and driving. Look at you reminds me of harder Petty once it really gets goin. Slop: Make My Mind vocals on the chorus are bizarre. Sounds out of tune or something? Dime Western is a mess. Vibe: Def. recognize the first track, but I'm totally unfamiliar with this band and record. All in all this is a little bland. I don't find any of it objectionable, but not a lot to latch onto to for me. Kinda middle of the road. Wouldn't turn it off if it came on, but wouldn't seek it out.

Staunchly 90's sound with no real standouts

Not my taste

Its fine. Kinda psychedelic grunge. Like 90s meets the 60s. Like “look at you” and “dying days”.

Solid decent grunge. Probably a little better than you'd expect from that description though.

Pretty good, kind of Alice in Chains-y, nothing too exciting

It definitely pays to listen to these albums more than once. I enjoyed this the first time round but it was even better the next time. Tempted to give 4 but ultimately it’s probably a high 3*

It was pretty good but I bit mid-90s alt rock for me.

Solid grunge album. This group is credited with being a pioneer of the genre, however this album was released after grunge had already caught on. It's a decent album overall. Can't say I had strong feelings towards it one way or the other. Instrumentation and vocal distortion was done well throughout the album. I will admit that the "acoustic guitar intro" gimmick was a bit overused on this record. Happy to add this one to my arsenal of grunge albums. Fave tracks: Halo of Ashes, Make My Mind, Gospel Plow

First time listen for me, though Screaming Trees are a staple of early grunge. I found this album to be quite enjoyable. It had a lot of the classic grunge sounds, like the gravelly voice and heavy rhythmic guitar riffs, while also incorporating some folky/psychedelic sounds (sitar on the first track was pretty cool). Overall well done, doesn't reach too far out of the pack, but enjoyable none the less. Fav Tracks: Halo of Ashes, Dying Days, Traveler

Rock tranquilo con buena voz y buena instrumentación. Sin aportar nada especial.

Initially groaned when this popped but it's not really THAT bad. Generic yes but there are nice touches (sitar is good) and it's pretty much what you would expect of mid-90s grungey ALT-rock American bands. Musically professional rock- well produced and well played plus the vocals of Mark Lanegan are interesting to listen to. Another reviewed has pointed out the theory that the '1001 Execs' decided that there are 30-40 Genres and each should have 20-30 representative so therefore some Genres will be scraping the bottom of the barrel whilst others will end up leaving absolute classics out in the cold. This sits mid-table so although it's not bad it ain't a Classic.

Passable 90s alt. Frontloaded with a couple solid tunes I may return to.

its interesting, not the biggest fan of prog rock but it wasnt bad

Decently dark 1990s sounds. Exactly what I was expecting and not at all disappointed by that.

Not too bad, kinda what butt/cock rock wants to be

Thought this was gonna be proto grunge but its after the death of Cobain..(7th album appaz).a bit shoegazey tbh and the vocals are quite soulful. Quite a pleasing surprise...Some filler but I am encouraged to look at other ST albums.

Never heard of this band before. Was quite nice mid-90s rock. Although once you've heard a few songs you've kinda heard them all.

This was a high-five from the 90s and sounds like the granddaddy of albums that came later.

Just got around to this one, sort of thing I can happily have in my shuffle and be perfectly content with, and would probably grow on me each listen. Not spectacular but it'll do nicely for me.

Never heard of them. I don't think that there's much that really stands out here, but it's a really well put together album, the sound is good (if a little generic rock), and it's a fun listen. Wikipedia says that they're a grunge band, but I don't get that at all? Comfortable 3 for me, could've made a four if there had been a bit more to make it unique.

Better than I remember this band being. Notes of Radiohead at times.

Pretty decent mid-90s psych tinged rock. There were some shining moments here, particularly the closing song, but a lot of weak stuff that held it back, especially the singer's vocal delivery and melodies.

Somewhat enjoyable

3.3 - A very typical mid-90s mid-tempo guitar rock album that sounds like an amalgam of Cracker, Spacehog, The Verve, Kula Shaker and a plethora of the era's other b-tier bands.

Not bad 3

Good rock n roll uh music. Solid, but not entirely memorable first listen. Will have to revisit.

My opinion of this album is shaped by the great first half, a very disappointing middle, and a redemption right at the end with the last track. The last half was just very underwhelming, especially given the great first half.

Eh, it wasn't bad. It definitely would've hit better when I was a teen, which is when it came out. Now though alot of it sounds like whiny bullshit to me

Sort of bread-and-butter '90s alt rock, nothing too crazy but a few tracks I enjoyed. Especially the closer, which seemed to veer into a completely different genre. I liked this but will forget about it rather quickly. Favorite tracks: Gospel Plow, All I Know, Traveler. Album art: Kind of creepy, like some weird heat signature photo of a dying demon? Not sure, but I do like it. 3.5/5

I believe the vocalist just passed away so RIP to this dude. This is fine so far. I liked All I know a bit. I think people put this band on quite the pedestal before I listened to them (this is the first time earnestly), perhaps that's why they aren't blowing me away. That's okay. Still decent stuff. Music while driving distances.

Real nice 90a rock

A decent alternative album. Felt like it fit in with the 90s pretty well. Wasn’t too exciting though. 5.7/10

Not bad, not as good as the predecessor which I loved as a younger man

Grunge, rock lentillo. Ni fu ni fa.

Some classic alternative rock from the 90s. I was leaning towards a 4 because I liked the first half a lot, but it kind of lost my interest on the back half of the album.

Singer has a great vocal tone but songs were nothing special. Pleasant enough but not something to come back to again

It was fine. No need to listen to it again.

Decent 90s rock / alternative

Perfectly fine I guess but there's nothing good here. Not sure why this is on the list.

Interesting album. Consistent all the way through. Though not innovative the sound really captures a style. Enjoyable listen.

you already know I'm a sucker for 90s alternative baybeeeee. This did not disappoint. I'll definitely put it in my moody rotation.

This album just didn't grab me for whatever reason. Went into it expecting more. 3/5 stars

Pretty decent!

I’m a fan of Mark Lanegan without ever having gone back and properly listened to Screaming Trees. This is a good album and was a lot more accessible than I’d expected it to be, despite not containing any of the Screaming Trees songs I knew

I didn't hear this band back then. Was vaguely familiar with the name, but that's all I have in the memory banks. Grunge was so ubiquitous for so many years that the genre itself doesn't do much for me anymore, but this band has melodic style and some rhythmic aspects that make them sound more "poppy" (not a negative term here) and than the grunge bands I remember. The musicianship is excellent. Quite a few nice guitar riffs and hooks in there, not so easy to include well in this kind of music. Overall, it's nothing I'll come back to but I can see why they were popular.

An adequate spin through 1996 American Rock

Album art is awful but the music is alright.

It is a decent enough album but another one of those ones I question whether it is essential listening. I always saw this band as grunge also rans. A band that changed their style to suit a trend. Mark Lanegan has an amazing voice and there are some nice songs on here but nothing that will get me to put this on high rotation

Indie before indie, sort of classic rock, bit out there. Chilled.

Often overlooked but this band was actually consistently good - not least due to Mark Lanegan’s wonderful voice. It is not special and it’s not their best - but it’s a good album that gets better with every listen.

It was alright, but I'm over grunge at this point

Decent 90s indie

Very monotonous, many songs had the same sound, but there were definitely some hidden gems on here.

Didn't like this one as much as Carl, but had a good sound to it.

mildly psychedelic, mildly grunge

This was good, but not an all-time great record for me

Indie rock - slightly harder Cure or softer Pearl Jam. Strong voice from Lanegan.

Very nostalgic. These songs felt immediately familiar even though I hadn't heard them before, but ultimately it isn't lasting or memorable

Not bad but not anything special, the very essence of a '3'

Night at the Bronze.

pretty average but like lanagans voice and some of the trippier songs. 3

Great album, not a fan of most of the songs, but the ones that I liked were bangers.

Nothing especially excellent, but a good vibe overall. I was expecting harder rock, but there were some nice peaceful moments.

Pretty good. I had been familiar with singer Mark Lanegan's work with QOTSA amongst others but never took the plunge on a Screaming Trees album. Mark's voice is pretty great here. Some of the songs are a little bland to me, but there are some definite winners here. My personal favorite was Sworn and Broken. I feel like this album could actually grow on me if I listened to it more. I'd really like to hear their SST era stuff as well. Somewhere between a 5 and a 6 on a 10 point scale for me.

You can really hear the Mike McCready

Not bad for 90s music....

classic rock album, fav song Look at You

Very listenable! I'd liked them before, but hadn't remembered too much and haven't heard much of this one.

The album starts strong and has a good alternative rock vibe... by the time we hit traveler, the album starts to go downhill a bit. Enjoyable but short of excellent.

This is a perfectly good 90s grunge album. It's more thoughtfully done and musically better than a lot of the dreck that was out around the same time. I liked a lot of the songs, but in the end it's not super memorable. Fave Songs: Sworn and Broken, Witness, Look At You, Dying Days, All I know

Never listened to Screaming trees before today. Not bad at all

Enjoyed. Having a 3 star week here

‘Twas interesting but not delectable by my palette.

This was certainly the most unique grunge/rock/blues album I've heard so far. It has a lot of different elements incorporated and while I probably wouldn't listen to this very often, it was still an interesting listen. I especially enjoyed how psychedelic the last few songs got; it got me interested in their earlier music which I hear is more psychedelic. Fav songs: All I Know, Traveler

It is something like this: a tree screaming. Not the type of music that Id like.

Enjoyed some of it

It was okay but all the songs started to sound alike about halfway through.

Me: I’ve heard of this band- grunge right? Let’s see how I like it. ::Really quite likes it:: Me: I think they might be from Seattle? That would be cool. ::looks it up:: ELLENSBURG?! There are so few bands from Eastern Washington, so that was pretty cool. Favorite songs are All I Know, Look at You, Make My Mind, and Witness. 3.5

I thought the genre blending on this album was nice (I liked the country influence!) but it wasn't very memorable.

It has something interesting in it. Hard to describe, but some songs are great.

90 tals rock/ indie

Halo of Ashes 9/10 All I Know 7.5-8/10 Look At You 6/10 Dying Days 8/10 Make My Mind 3/10 Sworn and Broken 8/10 Witness 10/10 Traveler 9/10 Dime Western 5/10 Gospel Plow 6.5/10

Pretty good album. Nice guitar work, singing, lyrics... but nothing that makes it a real stand-out. Would listen again, though. 3 stars.

Not bad

Ok alternative rock sound. Just average to me

Not bad. Would listen again

Hair farmers singing opera.

Generally boring but inoffensive. 5/10

Enjoyable

Pretty good 90's rock that takes from a lot of it's contemporaries at the time. Radiohead, Soundgarden, a third band. It's not bad! But it didn't impress me all that much.

I went through a reasonably long Screaming Trees phase before moving on from it (and the relevant genres, for the most part). This is fine but I think there's a lot better material in their earlier work.

some of this was very good, some of it was a bit wet wet wet / savage garden.

Pffffffft. Thought it was going to be better than it was.

The album is ok. It is not memorable in any way. I was not familiar with any of the songs.

Nyt jo aika hyvin kerinnyt unohtaa mitä tuli kuunneltua, mutta välistä soi kivasti silti nousematta kunnolla lentoon.

Kolmisen kertaa kuuntelin ja tykkäsin. Siistiä lightrokkia kevyisiin tai vähän raskaampiinkin tunnelmiin

Fairly good. Definitely will give it another go

There was a few good songs, but there were a few I didn't enjoy as well. Most I probably wouldn't revisit. 3/5 stars.

Well... I didn't dislike it. A new band and new music for me. I'm not sure if I can pick anything that would stand out to me about the band or the music. It sounded like the 90s.

Rather bland grunge in my opinion

The Screaming Trees final album encapsulates the final days of grunge in a positive way. You can hear folk and psych influences also on the track Traveler. A good listen (twice) especially since I wasn't in the mood for grunge when I played it. Favorite tracks : Halo of Ashes, Dying Days, Traveler

Standard Grunge fair

Decent little album, I particularly enjoyed "look at you"

Unremarkable. Boring.

If dust was an album it would probably sound like this.

I never listen to this and I was expecting to like it more.

Honestly, it was just like that. (The review is insincere;;;)

Psychedelic post grunge with heaps of wah wah guitars and a very rock radio orientation. Like if the Verve was from Seattle. A few tracks with jangle, strings and sitars and a bit of a nag champa style eastern influence. The metal/punk edge of grunge fades into a more generic hard rock sound. File with Live, Filter etc in the 'decent but bland 90s alt rock from just before the Creed wave of shit broke' folder.

Sounds like a generic '90s alternative rock album

A solid “mature” rock record. I wish post-grunge went in a more melodic direction like this than the crap we got in the early 2000s

Pretty dull. Not bad, but totally forgettable. Notting new here.

Solid, but ultimately forgettable grunge. I've listened to it a couple times, and I can't for the life of me remember anything once it's over. I didn't dislike my time with it, but I don't know if this was necessary to include on the list. I'm torn between 2 and 3 stars... I think, after reviewing my 2 star albums, that that's where it belongs.

Very generic and boring 90s rock. Never even heard about them so that should be an indicator that they aren't a band you need to hear before you die.

Very generic and pretty dull !

Bäst är Halo of Ashes och Sworn and broken.

it was fine but not very memorable to me!! agree with some of the reviews questioning how this album got onto this list

Listened to it and forgot about it again. In short, this album made no impression.

This album was quite interesting actually. Better than I thought it would be and I v much enjoyed Witness. Good gym music, nice on me ears but not the most memorable

I just listened to this, and don't remember it at all. Does that mean it's not interesting?

I was expecting some very bad metal from the album cover, but it instead was meh rock.

An absolutely forgettable album. Nothing stood out, either good or bad.

Tries a little too hard to be something but not sure what, weaker voice and less than necessary frills. Very standard very run of the mill.

I’m not really into this. It sounds like a midway point between Pearl Jam’s middle career and U2’s identity crisis periods. The first song was cool tho.

Not a lot of range. It drags on and becomes background noise pretty quickly.

Me: I'm gonna listen with focus to find out what makes this album stand out to be on the list. 2 songs (and 10 repetitions of a lame hook later), I'm on chatgpt asking how ants don't drown in the rain. First offense is the singing. I don't know if it's the voice or the mix (probably both), but if you told me this was a karaoke version with an overlay of some guy who just did some k I'd be like, yeah that tracks. It's not bad, but it's bland and doesn't sit in the mix. The second offense is the lack of clear direction. Is it psychedelic rock, is it hard rock, is it grunge? It's kind of grasping in all directions and landing in an uncomfortable middle. Overall, a middling album of an unremarkable band, not something worthy of the list.

Pretty generic 90s alternative if you ask me..

Not a bad record, just not for me

I did this a the cramps in the same day. As of now, I’m more team cramps.

Mediocre 90’s rock

Screaming Trees don't scream for me.

kinda satisfied a background noise grunge atmosphere in my office, but generally mid as far as this sort of stuff goes. i gotta dive deeper on mark lanagan but i kind of feel like he gets by on his vibe most of the time, which doesn't do it for me.

Grunge if it was super boring

It’s not the worst album I’ve heard, but it never really becomes good either. The whole thing feels a bit too raw and unpolished, in that way a lot of late ’90s and early 2000s grunge albums tend to sound. There were a couple of tracks I actually liked—Dying Days and Make My Mind stood out—but they weren’t enough to carry the whole record. Overall, it’s just kind of there. Not terrible, not memorable, just a raw and average listen.

Very melodic, 90s grunge/alt rock. It’s not a particularly bad album, just not interesting enough to play again.

Niente da dire

They sound a bit like Oasis
