Reviews (page 9 of 11)
Inte min musiksmak, men OK.
Rock and roll, boogie-woogie.
BL: Fats Domino is one of the legends of music, will be great to finally sit down and listen to one of the masters of the craft. AL: Awesome stuff, for the time. While I can appreciate that Domino may be the best at what he does the record lacks diversity in any kind and the majority relies on the standard blues riffs that him and his fellow founding fathers popularised. This can be an issue with blues riffs as they are incredibly same-y. For what it was it is a very strong record though, and do think it deserves the listen. FT: "Blueberry Hill", "What's the reason" 3/5
Solid for the era
I really enjoyed this. It's good to hear to roots of a lot of food music. With that said I'm only rating 3 stars because I don't think I'll ever revisit it.
I enjoyed listening to this and being transported back in time. It would have been something if better recording equipment was available or used at the time—between his voice and that guitar, it sounds like the equipment is stretched to their limits.
Heel lastig album om te reviewen, omdat dit een soort best of is van Fats. Ik vind Fats een hele prettige zanger, beetje soul, beetje blues. Is de muziek gedateerd? Jup. FAVO: Blueberry Hill, Blue Monday, Lala
Short but sweet
Would download
One or two songs, and you get the point. Obviously influential but I prefer what others did with what Fats started.
I see why Fats Domnino has been highly influential and am glad that this album is on the list. However, it doesn't really hold up to today's standard (or at least my taste). Dusty classics.
3.5
shoutout to the fats 3.5
Felt more tame than I was expecting.
Meh
not that interesting to me but always good to learn about music history
nice americana vibe drive the convertible to the diner for a coke float
Unable to listen
Fats is the Cat! Great voice, great vibes, a reason they’re classics!
Great album
Another unreviewable album. If you have any interest in music made in the last 70 years, it’s worth a listen to compare where it came from.
One song
A pioneer, but not very relevant anymore.
Early rock n roll is always an interesting sound when you put it in the context of the times.
Not my kind of music
Quite enjoyed. For some reason, I've never really listened to Fats Domino as much as a lot of the other bands leaders of that era.
upbeat and enjoyable
boppin.
Niet dat het niet swingt hoor. Maar in vergelijking met Little Richard (uit hetzelfde jaar) die we kort geleden mochten luisteren is dit zo braaf. Wat suffig zelfs.
6.4/10
A very good early rock and roll collection. Would have rated a 4 but I always add -1 to compilations because they feel like cheating.
Had to find each song on YouTube. Entertaining listen. Not my cup of tea though. Quite the change up from Siamese Dream. Possibly could be higher, but there wasn't much differentiation in the songs. If it played continuously, I might not have noticed. 3 stars.
Pretty cool for mid 50s. Early rock, heavy blues influence. Doesn't really hold up over time IMO, recording isn't great, but definitely holds its place in history, probably below Little Richard but still respectable. 3.1.
who doesn't like blueberry hill
Songs Troubles of my Own to Trust in Me not available on Spotify. Only able to rate off of 50%of album.
This record isn’t in Spotify. I had to create my own playlist based on Wikipedia track listing. I listened to it and deleted the playlist. Not bad - just boring. I get the importance just not my thing.
Spotify only had half of album
This sounds like rock and / or roll
Only about half the album was available. What I heard was pretty good, very 50s.
Unfortunately about half of the songs are unavailable on Spotify. Really enjoyed, though. Voice and songs can be vastly different. Blueberry hill has verses that I really liked in a style I didn't know about.
3/5 Blues isn't my thing, but Blueberry Hill and Blue Monday are standouts on this album (almost half of it was unavailable to listen to on spotify). It is however important to achknowledge the importance that Fats and other black musicians had in the evolution of Rock & Roll and R&B.
Musically good with the piano and horns. In my opinion lyrics weak and vocals not as strong as Ray Charles.
The album was really fantastic. I didn't get to listen to it all because of Sporify. So that's gonna drop a star.
This is so much fun, especially The Rooster Song and It's You I Love.
Primitive sound, not the music or musician so much as the instruments, recording equipment, and mixing/mastering. Personally I don't like the piano, I prefer keyboards and even organ. It's a fun listen, but the songs sound so similar that it gets old before the end of the 29 minute album length.
Rock & roll origins , forever in my cassette player in early 70’s after American Graffiti came out
I'm familiar with a couple of Fats Domino songs, but I've never listened to one of his albums before. Fats Domino is one of the best, if not the outright best, of the early R&B artists. These songs do a great job of showcasing his songwriting, piano playing, and singing skills. His songs are catchy, and their influence on popular music has been monumental. This type of music isn't really my cup of tea, but this is a solid album by one of the most influential musicians of all time, and it definitely deserves to be on the list.
Nicht ganz mein Ding. Ein paar Klassiker wiedererkannt Aufnahme klingt sehr altbacken.
Strong 50's showing from Fats, endearing voice and songs.
Blues, Soul, RnR, gut, 1957
Respect is due.
I liked the first few songs but the rest were a bit boring. Also the audio quality was crap, maybe if it was better I'd like it more. Stand-out: Trust in Me
I like 50's. They were doing music for the sake of doing music. It's fun, pleasure to listen and something to dance to. 3.5/5.
Catchy songs, just not generally my style.
Interesting that this was the birth of rocknroll. Easy to listen to, hard to find album, sound a little like elevator music.
Fun album! I can see the appeal for his music, to me it's a bit too jolly? The guy can play the piano though, and he had quite a good band to back him up! 7,5 out of 10
fun. would not listen to again probably, but i wouldn't mind listening to it again
Only half of it was available on Spotify
Good.
Was okay. I like Fats, but not sure this is an album I'd go to frequently.
Solid. Old school, little bluesy. Most of album not on spotify. 5/10
Great voice!
A 29 minute harmless album.
The challenge with 50s albums is that they stick to one line. Pioneering maybe, but I’m not sure they hold up. Blueberry Hill is a classic though
Feet tappin and hip grooving. Nice.
Blueberry hill is great, but a lot of these are very formulaic. Smooth, especially like the brass section.
Rating: 2.8
3/5. A solid collection of well-written love songs with a strong and smooth-singing front-man. There wasn't necessarily a bad song here but it's not unique enough to feel it deserves higher than a 3. Not bad, and might put it on later, but not amazing.
Okay. So for whatever reason this album is like an enigma of sorts. The website says this album released in 1957, even though it released in December 1956, the album cover on this website is one that I couldn't find anywhere else, the album isn't on my streaming platform, and weirdest of all, the wikipedia link on this website links to the article for Fats Domino himself, rather than this album. Maybe things are just really weird with 50s albums (of which this is the first I've listened to for this project). I seriously have no idea what's going on here. Anyway, this album's alright. It's some pretty basic 50s rock and roll, which isn't really a bad thing. I think that this serves as a pretty good representation of music at the time. Mr. Domino is quite an influential artist, having influenced the likes of Elvis Presley and The Beatles, however I was not able to find much evidence supporting the major cultural impact of this specific album. Maybe this is more of a representation of him and his career as a whole. Regardless of that, I give this album a high 3/5.
Great authenticity
What's the Reason I'm not pleasing you saved this album from a 2 to a 3.
Some good classics. Swingy, upbeat, and fun. Might listen to some more some time.
The rooster song slaps.
I just listened to his essentials playlist. He’s fun and talented. You can tell he enjoys making the music.
The big man does it all very right here. Starting with an iconic track to get us started and getting us out of there fairly quickly. It does hold up THAT well but considering it’s relative age it is a much better album given the time that has past since release.
This was pretty nice! But what is it about older artists and basically copy/pasting the same song format over and over? 'Blueberry Hill', 'Troubles Of My Own', 'Blue Monday' and 'So Long' are very, very similar to each other. Had the exact same thing with James Brown.
Love the swing beats of this album! It is a nice document of the time that it was released and Blueberry Hill holds well up to this day. There is not a lot of variation to the songs but then again it's dance music from 1957. I really enjoyed it and could see myself having it on while doing something else but if it was released today it wouldn't be that interesting.
It was alright, always the same vibe but not bad
Ye olde timey blues that started all of this *gestures with both arms*
Strong 3
You can't really hate this. After all, the man is a legend, and "Blueberry Hill" alone should justify a slot for Fats in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall Of Fame. That said, as much of a rock pioneer Fats Domino was, there's nothing in the five other songs from this record available on Spotify that can really surprise you (maybe I should dig further to find the others, but honestly, I've got enough music on my plate right now). Good soundtrack for a night out at the diner, sure. But playing this in your living room? To be clear, I know you also need to put those songs into historical context. But even if I do so, I still doubt they can beat the fierce competition of the ones played by subsequent key artists who flourished in that early rock'n'roll genre. Little Richards was far more extravagant and riotous, paving the way to later stars such as James Brown and Prince ; Chuck Berry was a killer guitar player and amazing songwriter, and he left us with far more than *one* all-time classic ; and as white as a linen as he was, Elvis' performances and vocals made him the stuff of legend--see also the strings of staples he left us with, just as Chuck did. Speaking of "whities", I also find Buddy Holly's tunes catchier, more memorable, and more original in the long run. And if Bill Haley was not exactly the real deal, the production values on his hits was far more dynamic and effective. So... slot number 6 for Fats? You tell me. 🤷♂️ After all, number 6 is still ahead of Gene Vincent, Bo Diddley, Eddie Cochrane and Jerry Lee Lewis. Those songs are quite endearing, don't get me wrong. But as far as *albums* go, well, Fats wouldn't be the only legendary artist to shine more through single tracks than through LPs. 3/5, translating to a 8/10 grade for more general purposes (5+3). Number of albums left to review: 388 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 279 Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 146 (including this one) Albums from the list I won't include in mine (many others are more essential to me): 193
What Spotify had of it was solid, not making a playlist, but solid non the less
I was not able to find this album on Spotify, but I pulled together the track list and listened to what I could. I just hope I didn’t miss anything! I have a soft spot for music of the 50s, and Fats Domino truly exemplifies its sound. Overall, this album was a very enjoyable, easy listen. It’s simple, soulful, and effective.
Fatty
He looks so young. He sounds so young. I can hear, like, milk in his voice. Innocence.
half the songs were unavailable in my country but I didn't like it enough to go looking for them. 1957 must be the oldest album we've listened to
Mittelmäßig interessanter New Orleans Rythm and Blues.
This is indeed Fats Domino. music: appreciated. (⌐▣ ̮ ▣)
Fairly cool in the way that all early proto-rock stuff is cool. Not something I would necessarily seek out to listen to again, but fine.
Very clearly important album in music history. His voice really is a pleasure to listen to, but just by the nature of how foundational of an album this is, the music feels so, so basic for the large majority of the time. Favorite track: Honey Chile
Hard to find but great album. Definitely on the I have to be in the mood list. If I’m doing a puzzle or some kind of activity
His voice is really good
couldn't listen to the whole album, but his voice melds well with the instruments to create a rock-and-roll R&B mix suitable for a 50s audience
Fun 50s tunes, but very samey.
It was ok
The songs that were on Spotify were pretty good stuff. But not good enough to go hunting for the songs not on Spotify.
Good OG Rock and Roll. Glad I listened to it. 3 Stars
Not bad, didn't listen to whole album because not all on spotify
Classic Motowwn sound
Decent old timey blues and R&B. Nothing surprising, pleasant enough, nice short catchy songs.
Rock and roll, boogie-woogie.
Sympa, mais ça m'a pas marqué plus que ça
Revolutionary for the time but no real standout songs
Mr Fats gots fats pipes Fav: Blueberry Hill
This made me feel 89 years old in a good way 3.5/5
Can’t find the full thing so middle of the pack rating for fairness
Should've been in Fallout
Fine, but not as good as his contemporaries.
I wish this wasn't a compilation album! Definitely a good start showcasing some of Fats Domino's hits. Makes me curious – I'll be looking into him more. Fav tracks: Blue Monday; Goin Home (Bonus Track)
Ok
Short but sweet
This isn’t available on Apple Music
A grandfather of rock and roll, of course this was enjoyable! Great sound, up tempo. Fun album!! High 3
This was pretty fun
Classic 50's record - won't blow you away, but it is a fun, easy listening experience.
This cat was cookin. More of a comp album but cool to see where the roots of rock and roll came from. Not all tracks were available to stream but it was worth doing a little diving. Not something I would listen to regularly but had I been around in 57 I woulda been spinnin. Really good lyricism regarding heartache, insecurity, and anxiety in a relationship. I guess bitches been trippin since the 50s. Mardi Gras is a must. Fav tracks: blueberry hill, what’s the reason I’m not pleasing you, gone home Least fav: La La
mum recognised blueberry hill.
Groovy, coffeehouse vibes to enjoy
Nothing particularly exciting
Nope!
Vivant, sans prétention. Voix veloutée parfaite pour la sérénade.
A 50s rock n roll legend who inspired the likes of Elvis and the Beatles. Adds a wild twist to R&B by adding rampant instruments, fast tempos, and spunky techniques like the offbeat. It's a collection of his best songs, which all share the same style. Incredibly short, each song barely over 2 minutes. Very minimalist, centering around some creative idea for the whole song. You get the point and appeal instantly. There's some filler, either tracks too derivative of his other work, or based on a gimmick, but many of them hit the mark. Favorites: Blue Monday, La La, You Done Me Wrong
Compilations aren't really my thing. I refuse to believe that there is a stand alone Fats album that isn't any better than this collection. It's decent - VERY decent. It was hard to keep my foot still with plenty of involuntary tapping throughout. But I like albums to have a story or thread.
Pivotal in the evolution of rock and roll but these days the album is more of a historical landmark than a regular listening item.
Some wonderful songs here, but nothing I haven’t heard before at this point.
I was not able to really find this album online. I listened to Fats Domino swings instead. Which was fun.
Nice to listen to but not I genre of music I seek out
Easy listen. Enjoyable. 3.5
I'm not convinced this is a real album
What a lovely and calm album to listen to, would have loved to have heard this live.
Interesting album and given its age it sounded great. Again, not sure I'd listen to it again
Good to listen to historically. Weird note, I couldn't actually find this album on Apple Music. I put together a playlist based on the full Imperial recordings compilation, with a few tracks coming from other compilations/albums. A little weird that it lacks wide availability but is considered an essential listen!
jazzy :)
nice singing and playing, even some old blues tunes
A nice album that you could play if you are trying to cheer yourself up.
take it or leave it really. not unpleasant but I will not seek out to listen again
Kinda basic now given it's age, but it's pleasant enough. I liked a few of the songs, and I liked the vibe. Not much to say though. My favourite song was Blueberry Hill.
Spotify only has half the album and couldn’t find it on YouTube. Fats is great. Wish I could have listened to the rest.
Good fun album but again not much stood out as a takeaway song
Is this the guy Elvis stole from? Can hear foundational stuff from everything and really cool to listen to
Reminded me of Elvis, then saw in Wiki that Elvis was inspired by him. Was ok but not a genre I usually listen to and wouldn’t go out of my way to hear again.
Was expecting something more rowdy. This was a bit too reserved and held back to really itch the rock’n’roll nerve. But it was definitely “nice”!
Good, but not as good as I expected. Must have been amazing when it came out, though.
Interesting to compare with Buddy Holly which we got yesterday from the same year. Despite the fact that many of the songs on both albums have similar structure (most are twelve bar blues), I find the Fats Domino ones much more listenable and engaging.
nice 77/100
Joa
That was pretty good bluesy jazzed. Don't know that I will be returning.
pretty good
Yeah, this guy has style.
A splendid era of music. This was alright
Puts the 'roll' into 'rock 'n' roll'. 🁋
Realmente disfrute éste disco. Sonido bastante clásico de la época.
Is this a compilation? Half of it is missing from Spotify. What I hear i like...old style boogie woogie early rocknroll..
okay
Bluesy and laid back, full of personality, a real joy to listen to. Several excellent songs, including two of the true classics of that era. But a lot of the songs end up being a bit of an unmemorable/samey blur, despite Fats' obvious talents. Spotify doesn't have this full album, but you can piece it together from various compilations and YouTube. Fave Songs: Blueberry Hill, Blue Monday, Honey Chile, So Long, What's the Reason (I'm Not Pleasing You)
Fun album but not something engaging enough to make me want to come back to it regularly
Just as fun and original as playing with dominoes.
Old rhythm and blues never gets old! Well, maybe a little bit... but still very enjoyable.
Pretty good
Fats is a more relaxed frontman than one is used to hearing in early rock. Here, the album format is less than solid with more-or-less solid tunes.
Two banger songs and then a bunch of meh. Half of this album is missing. Imagine being on the board of trustees for Fats Domino's estate and saying....nah we can't figure out how to license these songs from 1957 like you got some hidden gem.
just okay
Only partially in Spotify
It's Fats Domino. The origin of rock n roll. So many sounds have evolved from here, and you have to pay it the dues it deserves. That said, I'm just not massive on the old school sound except as a learning opportunity.
Du bon vieux rock n' roll très old school. Se laisse écouter, on voit l'influence que ce genre de musique a du avoir sur la scène musicale. Mais un peu trop tout le temps pareil. 7/10
I really enjoy listening to these tunes. Still sound great for how long ago they were recorded.
Það má alveg hlusta á þetta, en þetta fer inn um annað og út um hitt. Alls ekki leiðinlegt en svona sjöttatugarrokk gerir lítið fyrir mig. Helst saxófónarnir í lokalaginu sem eru áhugaverðir.
PREFS : Blueberry Hill, What's the Reason I'm Not Pleasing You, Blue Monday, Reeling and Rocking, Trust In Me MOINS PREF : The Fat Man's Hop
Genieten, jammer dat niet heel het album op spotify staat
Oh fats domino sheesh, spijtig dat niet alle nummers er zijn maar ga proberen meer van hem te beluisteren
Quite basic rock and roll
valid blues
Fats Domino is a smooth singer and piano player and great to get the day going. Overall it misses a bit of a high mark which is not a surprise for the non-concept albums of these days.
Outstanding album for the era of music. Standouts: Blueberry Hill (makes me think of Ritchie Cunningham!), Blue Monday, What's the Reason Others: Reeling and Rocking, The Fat Man's Hop, Honey Chile 3.5/5
Fa poc em va tocar escoltar 'Here's Little Richard'.
Good soul music. P chill
A bit of a mish-mash with little coherence, but it's Fats Domino, so it's great!
Not really an album? But some good stuff
Really good fun and very recognisable. Happy enough to listen and can defo recommend walking through Bristol city of an evening while listening. Really adds to the atmosphere.
Had eigenlijk nog nooit naar hem geluisterd maar vond het nog best grappig. Is niet zo zeer mijn ding maar vind het niet slecht.
Pretty solid for an oldie
Shout out fats. He’s the big fella
Great early rock n’ roll record here. Foundations for later hits to be sure. Especially good record when sitting poolside in the sun.
3.5
Alright at one level heard one Fats tune you've heard them all. He's got his r n b thing happening, with many a nod to Big Joe, Fats Waller and Cab Calloway. Those early rhythm and blues records had two schools, the Big Boy Crudup et al early electric guitar sound and the big band swinging honkin horns and the boogie woogie shuffle roll style that Fats appropriated. This is the type of record I played for my kids when they were little, who needs The Wiggles when you can play this. It's fun, out and out good time. Blue Monday is superb and the whole album has a fat sounding good time roll feel. I love the horns, honking man honking. Blueberry Hill, though has been kinda ruined by Richie....eeeehhhhh.. Anyway, I've referred this to the sensitivity checkers and the album is now This is Pleasantly Plump Domino just in case anyone out there floating in a tin can gets miffed by the constant references to Fats...and the Fat Man Hop is now the Slightly Larger Person Dance..
I didn’t get to give this a good listen, but as best I can judge I’d say it was enjoyable but not compelling .
Foundational rock and roll (although he maintained this was rhythm and blues, that he had been playing for 15 years before anyone coined the term "rock and roll"). It's rollicking good time stuff, but, truth be told, he travels a pretty narrow path. There really are only minor variations on two or three tunes here, and it gets a little repetitive. I don't feel like the seminal 50s artists really geta fair shake on this list, with its obsession with original albums (not compilations). While this is a fair representation of Fats Domino at the peak of his powers, but if this took more than an afternoon to knock out in the studio, I'll eat my hat. He really was a singles artist, not an album artist. He had been putting out million-selling singles for over a decade before he released an album. This does have Blueberry Hill on it (an all-time classic), which makes it worth listening to, but I really am stretching to give this more than 2.5 stars, rounded up to 3 because this list is biased against artists like Fats.
Gerne wieder, Fats!
A shame that you can't listen to every song on Spotify.
Enjoyed this too bad the whole album wasn't available on Spotify.
Perfectly fine music that I would never sit down and listen to...
Good stuff, full of soul
Scale: 1: Dissapointing 2: Didn't enjoy 3: Decent 4: Enjoyed 5: Would listen again (My first impression if not mentioned otherwise in a comment I used the Youtube Playlist of 1001 Albums Journey so these are the songs I listened to: Blueberry Hill: 2.5/5, ok Honey Chile: 3.5/5, nice short song What's The Reason (I'm Not Pleasing You): 2.5/5, ok Blue Monday: 4/5, my favorite song so far So Long: 2/5, meh La La: 3/5, fine Troubles Of My Own: 3/5, ok You Done Me Wrong: 1/5, really annoying singing Reeling And Rocking: 2/5, meh The Fat Man's Hop: 1.5/5 idk Poor, Poor Me: 2.5/5, ok Trust In Me: 4/5, cool Overall: 2.63/5, some songs were cool, rest was meh
Very very old.
Rock and roll, boogie-woogie.
Couldn't find the whole album so had to listen one at a time on youtube which made the experience very fragmented.
Highlights: "You Done Me Wrong," "Honey Chile" It's very cruel to aphorize "influence is overrated" about one of the most appropriated men in musical history, so to put it another way -- I don't have a lot of appreciation for the white guys that ripped Fats Domino off either. Folding him into that Great Man Theory of pop music is the same injustice, a Terra Nullis debasement of musical culture. There's very few people I'd call the five star musical mind who was lightning in a bottle on a formal level like John Coltrane, someone who makes you say "the human race is so *lucky* to have had this person come along." Domino found the sound that other people spent decades unpacking and building up. What sets him apart in that context is the stuff he lacked -- strong vocal delivery, interesting solos, colorful arrangements, etc. We can't even say this is a great album of his; it's a partial collection of his work after the fact, and from what else I've heard of him it doesn't do him full justice.
Easy listening, but they all sounded the same
Great singing with outstanding instrumentation around him making this a really fun listen. I haven't listened to much 50s music so this was a welcome introduction. That being said, it's nothing too special; I've heard more interesting and arguably better sung albums in the same style. Worth a listen but not strong enough to put in heavy rotation
Not my jam
Why isn't "The Fat Man's Hop" available on Spotify? What is the government trying to hide from us? This album didn't make a huge impression on me, which may be why it appears to have been wiped from existence, but I'm also just not invested in the genre. Standout tracks: Troubles of My Own; Poor, Poor Me
Blueberry hill!
One of the easiest albums I've listened to since I started this. Really nice Rock pioneering album. 7/10.
More subtly than I thought. Good though
Typical early rock and roll, late 50s, piano, horns, and singing. It was influential in its day, but doesn't really stand out to me.
A problem with an album-centric methodology is that the popular music of the early R&B/rock eras was dominated by singles. Albums were the realm of jazz, classical, and Frank Sinatra. Exposing generations to Fats Domino is a noble endeavor. However, this album is a flawed approach. Sometimes you have to bite the bullet and say, "You know, when the album coverage is thin, lets just go with a Greatest Hits". If you want to stroll with the Fat Man, just pull him up as an artist on Spotify and let 'er rip.
Bakermat van de rock and roll. Leuk album
Some really great all-time classics. I'm sure my parents loved it. Not exactly for me tho.
Well I couldn't find the full version of this album :( but I get the idea from the 8 or so tracks I was able to hunt down. I'm glad I've listened to him now! You can definitely see the massive influence he had on rock n roll!
Decent songs, catchy but not much to them.
Couldn't find this exact album. Listened to a deluxe greatest hits. Interesting but wouldn't sit and listen to this for a long time
Legendary, well worth the listen. But production is kind of thin from a modern perspective.
Soul con algo de ritmo, de las primeras épocas. Relajado para escuchar
Album swingt met je mee naar een dansvloer in de jaren 60, lekker. Weinig referentie om te raten vandaar de 3 sterren. beste; honey chile blueberry hill
Was born too late to see the thrill in this.
Ok, so this doesn't seem to exist on Apple Music or Spotify (or YouTube, although there is an album called the confusing "This is Fats" released the year after "This is Fats Domino" He sure loved the letter "A". "Domino was married to Rosemary Domino (née Hall) from 1947 until her death in 2008; the couple had eight children: Antoine III (1950-2015), Anatole, Andre (1952-1997), Antonio, Antoinette, Andrea, Anola, and Adonica." Three stars for the few songs I listened to on compilation albums
Only half available on Spotify
Decent. Half the album is sadly missing from spotify but it was okay.
Nice enough but nothing surprising or particularly impressive, better blues rock out there I think. Still enjoyed it.
That sure is Fats Domino
Good music for when you’re wandering around the Mojave
59/100
Very catchy and ridiculously influential. It's a bit samey after a while, but short enough to not outstay its welcome, and there's a charm to the songwriting and performances that makes it never seem boring
Fats Domino is pleasant enough to listen to and a staple to the doo op/blues genre of the late 50s. However for me there is nothing that stands out as exceptional with this album, it’s pretty straight to the point.
Lovely listen to the early sounds of rock and roll. Happy days.
Top 3 Songs: 1 - Blueberry Hill (1) 2 - What's the Reason I'm not Pleasing You (3) 3 - You Done Me Wrong (8)
It was an interesting listen at least.
This particular album isn't available on Apple Music and only half on Spotify. I suspect licensing issues. Great voice and full of toe tapping energy. If you're not tapping your foot something is wrong.
Classy and fun and wholesome. Obviously this guy was hugely influential. The songs kinda become indistinguishable by the end of listening, but it's still thoroughly enjoyable. Great listen.
Fun. Good solid music. Haven’t heard anything before
Fine
A historically great album but to me it’s just decent. A lot can probably be said in the impact fats has over the years. I found the album to be jazzy and entertaining. A few songs were good and I enjoyed them. Overall it’ll be hard to revisit as the album is hard to find on streaming. Showing how dated this album is. 5.9/10
Never listened to before and was outside of my typically listening. Top tracks: Blueberry Hill and Blue Monday.
Some of the most classic songs we've heard a million times. Enjoyable listen.
Tiukkaa vanhan liiton rokkia!
Harmi ettei koko levyä löytynyt, oishan tämä saattanut neloseksikin nousta.
En löytäny mistään koko levyä niin laitetaan keskitien 3/5. Puolikkaan levyn perusteella lienee hyvä.
Great voice, really lovely album
Yeah, good stuff. A little too old-fashioned, but it's 70 years old. That's totally understandable!
I like me some Fats Domino but this album was lacking something. Maybe it needs to be heard loud on an old record player but it just didn't sound that great.
An undeniable legend in the music industry, it's great background music, but isn't really my jam, but it deserves its place on this list.
This is fine. It's predictable for what you would expect, and the songs are all good. Enjoyed but unlikely to listen to this much.
Fun to hear and hard not to like, but sorta basic and casual-seeming.
Man, I lost my review on this one. I don't want to rewrite it. This was decent 50s teeny bopper music.
Decent.
This one was like a rugged set of tits on a dolly bird past her sell by date. She got them out for the first sun of the summer and they're a bit burnt and sore. She will go home, pour a large glass of cheap white wine and rub lotion on them. Her landlord looks in through a crack in the door and masturbates peacefully. She knows he's there and puts on a bit of a show. "Still got it", she sighs to herself as she climbs into her off-white bath that's seen better days. She submerges herself and unleashes an enormous fart from her ageing vagina. The mirror shakes. The landlord cums.
"Crab mentality" also known as crab theory, crabs in a bucket, is a way of thinking best described by the phrase "if I can't have it, neither can you".
Did not listen, but will go back and find a complete version of this album. I am very familiar with Fats' Blueberry Hill as it always reminds me of Happy Days.
Taken as individual tracks this is brilliant, but they're not an album. It's just a collection.

The Rooster Song - 7/10 My Happiness - 9/10 As Time Goes By - 4/10 Hey La Bas Boogie - 8/10 Love Me - 7/10 Don't You Hear Me Calling You - 8/10 It's You I Love - 10/10 Valley of Tears - 9/10 Where Did You Stay - 7/10 Baby Please - 8/10 Thinking of You - 6/10 You Know I Miss You - 6/10
Fats has a great voice and his creations provided enough material for groups to mine well into the next decade or more. The songs are not corny like Elvis and more danceable than Buddy Holly. All in all there isn't enough to grab the attention of modern listeners but it's still a cool nostalgia trip.
3.5 /5. Really surprised at how good this is. When I first seen it I thought, "old music!" but it's pretty great. A few classics and the other songs are solid.
Mellow Boogie Man (5/10) FT: Blueberry Hill
I enjoyed this album a lot and it was a nice change of pace from the others on the list I've gotten so far. Blueberry Hill is the only song that I previously knew of and it is a great song. The recording isn't perfect but that can be forgiven with how long ago it was performed. Excited to hear more of his discography.
Extremely jazzy. Shame the whole album wasn't on Spotify.
Echte ouwe muziek. Ik houdt er wel van, maar zo'n heel album is ook wel weer wat teveel. Ik vind ook niet alle liedjes leuk. ***
Pretty fun! Not outstanding, but still fun. Favorites: "Blueberry Hill", "What's the Reason", "Troubles of My Own"
It’s alright.
Cultura general
I love his voice. This isn't really my style preference, but there's no doubt the influence that he had on blues-style rockers that came after him.
7/10 Best Song - Blueberry Hill
nice blues rock a shame im missing half the album on spotify
Enjoyable - hell yeah. Will I go back to it again, probably not. Then again start any album with Blueberry Hill and you've got a strong start. So much better than some of the crap we get nowadays, but I guess the crap from yesteryear doesn't make it to this list.
Certainly a classic. Blueberry Hill, great track. Troubles Of My Own also enjoyable.
Parp! Toot!

Day 11: Very good album, Never heard of Fats Domino or any of these songs before, Was pleasantly surprised. Cant really peg any of the songs are being weak points and while some were hard to find on Spotify I used YouTube for many of them. A lot of the songs we're really good but I did feel like the album's later half did fall short compared to the first half. Overall I wouldn't have an issue re-listening to this album and many of the songs, I would also have no issues if I got more albums like this in the future. Favourite Songs: Honey Chile, Blueberry Hill, What's the Reason I'm Not Pleasing You
I liked this album. I like the rolling bluesy piano. I liked the fact that I did not hear Blueberry Hill which is a song that never really worked for me. I liked that most songs it was just Fats' voice no cheesy backup vocals. So I liked this better than most 50s albums. 3.5 🌟
Old fashioned, but pretty funky.
Blueberry Hill teleported me immediately to my late grandparents' kitchen. While obviously much more a song of their youth, it reminds me of visiting them in the nineties - their dark red stone kitchen with the bird chirping in the corner.
For me, any of the compilation discs of greatest hits is the way to go with Fats
Like this kind of music
Just not really my thing, obviously sounds dated to my ear. Some undeniably catchy tunes. Best song: Blueberry Hill
Historic album and great style. I can’t hrp thinking you needed to hear thus man live to fully appreciate him!
Boomer jazz, kinda fun but not the best early jazz we've had on the list. A little too much 12 bar blues for me
Enjoyable. Nothing I would choose to listen to. 3/5
nothing special
Sunday Monday Happy Days
Nice New Orleans Blue style album, but unfortunately the old school production and Domino's lyrics doesn't do much for my attention span and my taste
Blueberry Hill is a banger
Big fan of the oldie classics-esp. Fats D
Another one not on Apple Music, had to frankenstein this together from some compilation albums but we got it. Fats is a pioneer in the early honky-tonk rock and roll style, and he belongs in the same discussion as guys like Little Richard and Chuck Berry. He made the piano cool, and he's got a great voice and presence on every track. The music is definitely dated, and I felt it sounded very same-y throughout but definitely foundational stuff that belongs on this list. And "Blueberry Hill" is an all-timer. Favorite tracks: Blueberry Hill, Blue Monday, Troubles of My Own, The Fat Man. Album art: I know it's not what's shown on this site. Looking elsewhere I see an old-school style cover that's mostly pink with a huge Fats head and tiny body playing piano. I really dig that one. 3.5/5
3/5 good but not enough
Wasn’t able to listen to all songs on Spotify. What I heard was good. Recognized the song Blueberry Hill.
It rocks, it rolls. It has rhythm, it has blues. Straightforward music that is still fun to listen to today. Now I wish I was on my way to a sock hop.
Chill
Boogie Woogie!
Not bad actually, one of the better ones
Pleasant.
A classic rock and roll/boogie woogie album, with mostly danceable fast tempo tracks. "Honey Chile" and "Blue Monday" are great song and the rendition of "What's the Reason (I'm Not Pleasing You)" is fun. Fats had a great voice for his style.
Great lead off to the week....
Second biggest selling rock n roll act after Elvis. You can imagine John Candy serving giant pancakes with this album playing in the background. McCartney was listening - that's a good enough stamp of approval for me. Best Tracks: Blueberry Hill; Honey Chile; Blue Monday
old swingy-type music pretty fun 3.5
I loved this but my day/brain was too busy to really listen probably it's not fair to say it didn't grab me because not many albums would have my workday was so insane. I did love and appreciate the vibes and like this style of music so I'll go with 3. If I wasn't a few hundred albums behind I would listen again but alas...
This was enjoyable but didn't leave a particular mark on me I have to say.
