Reviews (page 6 of 14)

1. Hanging on the Telephone - 10 Insanely fun track. Vocally it's very strong, lyrically it's well written, instrumentally it sounds great. I love the way the drums and bass keep everything in line with each other. Superb track. 2. One Way Or Another - 8 I was never overly in love with this track but I cannot deny it's quality. It's very catchy and instrumentally it's very good. I was never a fan of the low and high ends of the vocals. Still, it's a solid rock song. 3. Picture This - 6 Sounds like a slightly more updated version of a 60s rock track. It's not bad but it's not anything phenomenal either. 4. Fade Away And Radiate - 7 I love how the song moves from the more melancholy parts to the more filled ones. Guitar does this really well with some excellent mini-solos. Overall, a good track. 5. Pretty Baby - 6 Exactly the same problem Picture This has. Vocals are fantastic but it's way too close to doo-wop rock for me to really say I love the track. 6. I Know But I Don't Know - 3 Lyrically this track is awful. It's a nothing burger of a song. 7. 11:59 - 7 Solid track overall. Really good instrumentals overall with a good pace, this track is just a fun swing-type of rock. 8. Will Anything Happen - 9 This is what punk rock should always sound like. Brilliant track with an amazing sound really fun vocals. 9. Sunday Girl - 6 Not the best track lyrically on the album but it's got a fun sound and guided well throughout by a superb guitar. 10. Heart of Glass - 11 Just an all time classic. Guitars are amazing. Drumline is legendary. Vocals are heavenly. Just an all time great. 11. I'm Gonna Love You Too - 6 Bubblegum pop but with a great drum and guitar to underpin it, especially the guitar solo after the first chorus. You can see the influence this had on later artists like Pink or Avril Lavigne. 12. Just Go Away - 9 Some of the lyrics in the verses are outstanding. "If you talk any more you could win an award from the Federal Communications Board" is outrageously good a line. Brilliant track to end the album on. Average Rating: 7.33 Adjusted to 5-Point Scale: 3.67 Rounded Up: 4 Stars

Incorporates disco really well into rock. Tons of good pop songs, plus the eternal Heart of Glass.

1978 Marvellous post-punk vibes. 8-year old me wasn't much bothered in 1978. A few years later, teenage me took an interest that didn't always extend to the music. Gen X need only reply. Heard before ✅️ Got this Listened this time ✅️ Revisit ✅️ Stands-Up (not that!) ★★★★☆ (7/10)

Surprised how guitar-forward this was. I always thought Blondie was like an 80s synth pop band. Reminded me of The Cars. I love how she breaks up her voice in the back of her throat every now and then.

Highlight Song/s: One Way Or Another and Picture This I've only heard Blondie songs here and there, but never a full album before. And it was WAY better than I thought it would be. Going in I thought the songs were going to be more akin to Sunday Girl (poppy) rather than another Blondie song I heard previously such as One Way Or Another (more punk adjacent.) Though it seems Sunday Girl-styled songs on the album are the exception rather than the standard. Sunday Girl tricked me into thinking that Blondie made an entire album filled with that song, I'm glad lots of the songs are strrrrrrraight rockers. Even though Sunday Girl is great, I probably couldn't stomach an entire album of that or a 20 minute extended version. I legitimately can't think of anything bad to say about this, which is surprising.

De bangers blijven bangers, de rest is ok

4.5/5 So fun! Perfect at what it is. Favs- One Way or Another, 11:59, I'm Gonna Love You Too,

Surprisingly rangey album. Fade Away and Radiate almost sounds like a Black Sabbath cover while One Way or Another and Heart of Glass are undeniably poppy. I really enjoyed the album. 4.3 outta 5

Loved this. Obviously it’s blonde but there are no bad songs on the record it does a good job not blending together. It’s great

It's one of the new wave classics, of course, it's a cover everyone's familiar with It's fun from end to end even if it doesn't tend to reach the highs of Heart of Glass or One Way or Another, if you wanted a fun album from the early days of the playful, surfy side of New Wave, you've got it

Great production and terrific songs. The Buddy Holly cover sounded great.

iconic

Despite being very familiar with the singles from this album, I had never listened to it before. Definitely an iconic album that catapulted Blondie's fame, and listening to the album really highlighted the influence that this record had on rock and pop music at that time. They are so genre-defying - elements of straight-up rock, punk, art rock, doo wop are all in there. And Debby Harry is just amazing - love her voice and the range of tones she can access. I found myself really enjoying the middle of the album - Fade Away and Radiate really made an impression on me and I love its weirdness, and I really enjoyed 11:59, Will Anything Happen, and Sunday Girl. I'm not sure there were any real hidden gems on the album, however - lots of enjoyable songs that definitely establish a clear sound and musical outlook, but nothing that made me sit up in my chair. I also thought the last two tracks were real throwaways. I wasn't crazy about the song order, either; I've seen reviews that feel quite the opposite, so I may be alone on that! But for example I found Heart of Glass strangely buried - it has such a strong, pulsing opening, I thought it would have made much more sense as the opening track of side 2. I give an overall 4 recognizing it as a truly iconic and influential album and the overall quality of the music. My personal rating is a 3. Enjoyable album that I'd listen to again, but not one I'd likely go to again on my own.

Was fun!

Super fun album. Well-deserved reputation.

Though I recognized One Way or Another and Heart of Glass, I don't think I had heard anything off this album or even the hits very many times before. Well...I remedied that with about a dozen relistens over the last couple weeks. Super catchy and Debbie Harry makes it sound so easy.

this was nice

What a banger, so much fun Shoutout 1D

p398. 1978. 4.5 stars. Lovely American New Wave that still sounds fresh today. Packed with hits, point deducted for occasional filler and the aberration that is the chorus on "Just Go Away".

👱‍♀️

Female Meatloaf. Not an insult, I like Meatloaf. I don’t love how wet her voice sounds when she growls though.

This is a really solid album. Not all the songs are bangers, but they are decent and the album is pretty consistent from start to finish. Definitely one you should hear before you die.

Many different music styles. I love Blondie.

Some meh. Some good cut. Somr greats cuts. Well worth listening to again.

Catchy riffs, some great songs and a nice raspiness to her vocals. Highlights were One Way Or Another, Fade Away And Radiate, and Heart of Glass, but it was all pretty enjoyable.

Has 2 great songs that I like. “Heart of Glass” is a great New Wave song, and “One Way or Another” is a classic song. Will need to listen to this sometime…

This is very much my thing 90/100

Such fun!

pankroks pirms pankroka

Heat from end to end. Heart of glass is an all time banger.

I kinda missed the popularity and love for Blondie. I knew Heart of Glass and One Way Or Another of course but I never got interested in her discography or any more music. It's a great album though.

Pretty goooood stuff! We have of course the two main all-timer bangers on here, but even right at the start I am hanging on the telephone. It does have its slower songs which I'm not as big on, but it is still overall really solid.

Really, really great new wave, sitting right at the crossover point between the manic energy of punk and the catchy pop hooks of later new wave/synthpop. A classic for a reason!

This album was a lot of fun! The hits are timeless but I enjoyed a lot of the rest too. Some really good guitar work throughout it too.

One of the most solid new wave albums ever. Their producer called them the least talented band he'd ever worked with but I think in hindsight this was such a blueprint for the rest of the 80s. I remember not liking it too much but I am extremely confused why.

Хороший альбом, не услышал особо много чего то новаторского кроме 1 и третьего трека

very good album

I knew the famous songs from this album but really liked this one overall!

Reading about this album, it sounds like it was as much a lesson in discipline as it was a musical milestone. The band had a bit of a reputation for coasting on attitude and fun, but producer Mike Chapman really pushed them to focus and refine their sound, and it shows. Parallel Lines is packed with singles and showcases Blondie at their creative peak - sharp, stylish, and effortlessly cool. It feels like an album that was ahead of its time yet still managed massive success when it came out. Decades later, it still sounds fresh, vibrant, and undeniably influential.

A really good album, I liked Hanging On Th Telephone, One Way Or Another, 11:59 and Sunday Girl the most.

A really good album that I think barely missed out on being a 5, it was let down on one or two songs that weren't bad but just seemed to drop the standard a little bit. Otherwise definitely an enjoyable listen.

Really liked this, some bangers on there

This required a second listen. A couple stand out tracks, but the bulk of it was pretty solid as well. Blondie did a good job on this album of the post punk new wave sound without sounding too pop-y like some subsequent work. And it doesn’t include Rapture, which is so awful I would’ve taken away two stars.

2 classic bangers

Great album, some classic songs but lots of great ones I wasn't familiar with

Blonde rules. The two big songs off this album still hit, forty... I don't want to talk about it years later. But the rest of the album is also great. It's like one of the big supernova hits are on each side, and the rest of the tracks orbit them. But it works, they're complimentary and not filler. I could easily see superfans finding favorites on this album that aren't the two hits, which to me is a hallmark of an excellent album. Also, Debbie Harry is a national treasure.

I like New Wave

I'm not going to call this a perfect album by any stretch of the imagination as there are definitely one or two skips (e.g., Fade Away and Radiate). But there are enough of the five-star classics (Heart of Glass, One Way or Another) to bump this up to 4.5 stars. Unfortunately, there are not enough classics to round this up to 5 stars - so 4 it is.

Can see myself listening to this in the future as well.

I'm not particularly into New Wave but this is a great album nonetheless. The songs I knew are all great, although some I've probably heard enough of for one lifetime, never mind 'before I die'. The album tracks range from ok to really good but it's solid enough to earn a 4 in a really iffy week.

This was way better than expected.

Блонді така собі нова хвиля, як на мене. Але ось поп-пісні з класними хуками їм вдавалося писати добре. За це й поставимо 4

I was never the biggest fan of "Heart of Glass", but have liked most other Blondie songs I've heard. Fully enjoyed this piece of classic New Wave nostalgia - other than the one song.

Once I had a love and it was a gas, soon turned out had a heart of glass. I feel like I have known that lyric all my life, and it's always been a favorite song of mine. Being just a small kid in the late 70s and early 80s, I wasn't able to go discover music myself, so it was whatever I heard on the radio and what my older siblings passed on to me. Lately I have been deep diving into these eras, specifically glam rock, new wave, and synth pop, wishing I had been a teen in the late 70s. What a cool time for music discovery!

I know quite a few Blondie songs, but I've never listened to a whole album of theirs before. My mom had a Blondie greatest hits CD when I was a kid, and I didn't particularly care for them back then. Blondie has grown on me in my adult years, but I feel like I approach them with some trepidation for some reason (however, I do love "Maria" from later in their career). I know a few songs on this album, and I'm excited to listen to it today, because I expect it to be a solid new wave jam. Here's hoping my expectations are correct! I didn't fall in love with Parallel Lines, but I thought it was a really good album, with some excellent vocals, great guitar rhythms, and solid keyboard riffs as well. I felt like this album was at its best when Blondie leaned more on punk influences, and some songs, while good on their own, felt a little out of place on this album top me ("Fade Away and Radiate," "Sunday Girl," and "Heart of Glass"). Still, Parallel Lines is a solid new wave album, and other than "Fade Away and Radiate," there weren't any songs that I didn't like. As for my favorite songs: -"Hanging on the Telephone" is so damn good. It's perfectly arranged, with excellent rhythms, and outstanding guitar and keyboard playing. It's an incredibly fun jam, and an excellent lead-off track. -I really hated "One Way Or Another" as a kid, but I think that's because my mom would start singing it out of nowhere sometimes, and I just hated that. As an adult, it's really grown on me though. The bridge is absolutely killer, and I love the guitar playing. "Picture This" wasn't as good as "One Way Or Another," but it also had a bridge that I loved. -I loved the multitrack vocals on "Pretty Baby." I thought this was one of the weaker tracks on the album, but those vocals were excellent. -"I'm Gonna Love You Too" is fantastic. Blondie managed to keep the original rockabilly feel to it, even after adding a faster rhythm and keyboards. I thought this was the second best song on the album after "Hanging On The Telephone." Parallel Lines is a bit short of five stars for me, but I thought it was really good, and it had some bright spots that really shone. Blondie added another album to the pantheon of the best new wave albums of the late seventies.

Mike Chapman's first collab with the band… whom he found less-than-great. Full disclosure: what I know about Blondie couldn't fill a thimble. I "realize" they're considered great. I never took the time to deep-dive. I've jammed a song and a record here and there over the years. This is probably my first critical foray. I found it above average, to be sure, but not stellar. Released the same year as VH1… not even close.

Blondie, need I say more?

I enjoyed this album! I recognized the big hits but I didn’t realize that they all came from the same album. Not only that, I’m familiar with the originals but I’ve also heard several artists cover these songs. Fun album from start to finish. Heart of glass is a crazy good song.

Pretty decent

3.5 stars I’ve casually listened to this album before, but hadn’t really taken a dive in. I mostly remembered the singles. As an album, I have already had repeated listens. While it’s not a masterpiece, it is a fun pop record with some good variety and catchy tunes. I liked it more with each listen (so maybe it would get a full 4 with another).

I enjoyed it. a lot of fun punk influence and then some major hits

I like this album because it's fun and innovative. It’s not one of my go-to's but, I really appreciate Blondie’s strong presence and the Rocky Horror vibe some of the songs give off.

Some other review probably put this better but the sheer variety of styles on this is impressive as hell. Great album all in all, nothing was particularly gripping to me but nothing stood out to me as bland or bad either so yeah, good record

What a classic. Can't beat a bit of Blondie and this is their best - lots (most) of their iconic tracks to be found here. (Dork argues this is a 5 star-er but, as much as I love this album, it's just a strong 4 for me.)

Love the upbeat vocals and instrumentals

one way or another, sunday girl, heart of glass, and the rest are decent

I liked it, I need to listen to it more closely a second time. Iconic sound.

Some bangers

One way or another!

Such a classic. Who doesn't love "Hanging On The Telephone", "One Way Or Another" and of course "Heart Of Glass"! Also that album cover will always kick ass. Good shit. Favorite track: Heart Of Glass

Que buen álbum. Que buenas canciones

Thoroughly enjoyed that. 2000s emo/punk's grandparents. 4 stars.

Lots of variety all of it interresting, full of energy and fun to listen to. Only knew Blondie from a Best of album and some music video's but that is clearly not enough. Will be exploring further.

Cool as fuck, and honestly stands tall just for its attitude, but not a strong album all the way through

Amazing Pop Rock album. This set the bar to every mainstream rock act that followed in the 80's, although not many of them were able to match its greatness. Filled to the brim with catchy hooks and crunchy guitar leads, with a ridiculous charismatic frontwoman in Debbie Harry, and an undeniable sense of style. Key tracks: Hanging On the Telephone One Way or Another Sunday Girl Heart of Glass

80s Pop at some of its finest. Blondie puts out some bangers and this album has two of their all-time greats. Really fun listen, but can start to sound a bit repetitive in places. Definitely a great album though!

The hits on this are massive and I still have a crush on Debbie Harry all these years later.

It's a good album, easy to listen to. Apart from one or two standout tracks, it's a bit forgettable, but overall there's enough variety to keep it from getting boring. I think it would grow on me if I listened to it more, there's just something about it that's simply likeable and catchy enough.

Good stuff overall. One song reminded me of the Doors a little bit. Versatile band!

Did anyone else think One Way or Another or Heart of Glass were made in the 80’s. I mean, it’s from 1978, so close enough, but I never would have guessed that year. Truth be told, I wasn’t the biggest fan of either of those songs, so I expected the album to be mostly like those songs. Thankfully, I was wrong. I barely hear albums where the deep cuts have the same punch as the singles. Props to Debbie Harry for her range, covering both the softer pop parts and the raspy edge of the punk parts. Throw it some nice guitar parts and you have a very enjoyable album. Favorite track: One Way or Another Other hits: Heart of Glass, Hanging on the Telephone, Picture This, 11:59, I Know But I Don’t Know, Will Anything Happen, I’m Gonna Love You Too, Just Go Away

Just an amazing album, so many bangers.

This suprised me in a really good way. I was familiar with one way or another. But no other songs. Good riffs, exciting music

I absolutely love Blondie

Enjoyed this a lot more than I expected. Heart of Glass is a banger, but the whole album was much better than I anticpated.

A blast and a half. This thing is just fun. Nothing too serious but a good time start to finish. Starts off super strong and just bounces up down and around the whole time. Heart of glass is a perfect song and has no issues even a little. I just loved every second. I knew I would always like blondie but now I know. Hopefully there are more of these on here and if not I'll take a little excursion to the blonde zone again soon

♫ Listening to "One Way or Another" by Blondie (Parallel Lines, 1978) ♫

I can't recall the last time I listened to a Blondie album from start to finish, it's got to be 30 years and I think it was Autoamerican. I enjoyed this tremendously though, the songs are great, the band sounds great and Debbie Harry is a perfect front for this band. I feared it would sound dated or too maybe it was too punk or whatever but it's just classic punkish new wave and I want to hear more.

Such a solid record, really no skips. I like the tension between the often very feminine, girly singing and the badass message and instrumentation.

Timeless

Love Blondie. First time I’ve paid attention to the lyrics, feels kind of like how the Police had stalking songs, and this is from the female perspective.

Lo he disfrutado mucho.

Really fantastic record this; so many great hits

great pop album from a moment in time we may never see again. everyone is tight and knows their assignment so many hits on this album, i never knew they were all from one project.

Great album. Blondie is a stalwart mainstay of New Wave and it shows here, though I do believe that every Blondie song I know aside from Call Me is on this album.

pappa gillar

Älskar deras sound och hittade flera oväntade bangers här. Toppenalbum! Skadar inte att Debbie Harry är typ coolaste personen.

What a pleasant surprise. The last time I really listened to Blondie was 2017 at a small music fest put on by a radio station and I didn’t really care for them then. But this was quite good. Music not to make you dance, but to boogie.

+had no idea that 'one way or another' was from blondie +deborah's voice is strong and full of personality +favorites are pretty baby, picture this, and 11:59

Some great, others just good.

An overall fun album. I was familiar with a few of the tracks off this, my favorite is hanging on the telephone. I've heard this covered by a few different groups and didn't realize Blondie had one, surprisingly! I'll give this one another listen soon.

I already enjoy Blondie, so this was an enjoyable listen. I like the back half of the album a bit more. I actually think One Way or Another is kind of annoying. Favorite Song: Heart of Glass

Rock solid top-to-bottom. I'm a sucker for all things new wave and post punk and this one is right up there, tbh.

84% Best: One Way Or Another; I Know But I Don’t Know; Will Anything Happen; Heart Of Glass; Just Go Away Must-Hear? Sure

"Heart of Glass" was a revelation when it came out. It really meshed what would become New Wave with post-punk and had a giant dollop of what would become club music, EDM, house as well. There are other moments on the record too, of course, and it's got some good energy, but it's definitely not a five star record, too much filler.

Love it! Punky, rocky, pop-y. FS (that I hadn’t heard before): Hanging on the Telephone

Pretty good!

Oh yeah, very good. Love Blondie and this is the only inclusion on the list. All of their early work is easily listenable. Essential album for New Wave listeners. Heart of Glass and Sunday Girl 💯 💯

great. obviously - not my first listen. duh

I like John Lennon and much of his solo work so I figured this would be a good listen though I was hesitant because it has Yoko’s name on it. An overall pleasant album but a little too soft for my taste. Hold On, Working Class Hero, and Well Well Well are the standouts for me.

Some of the live tracks reminded me Of The Who.

Some absolute classics on this album. Deeper cuts are pretty good too!

Fine no one’s I loved that I hadn’t heard before but all solid.

A bop. Sunday girl is forever fave.

Catchy songs. It's been done better later by lots of bands, but Blondie had to do it first. Favorite song: I'm gonna love you too.

Bright 70’s pop-punk with lots of strong songs. Except for the big hit, Heart of Glass which is pop disco which confuses many at the time. Some songs are like 60s girl group songs but with edgy or grungy guitars instead of wall of sound orchestrations. They are not brilliant musicians but this is musically an improvement on their first two albums. I think that’s due to the songs and producer Mike Chapman. The cover pretty much sums it up. I’d give it 4.5 but it doesn’t quite do it for me like when I was twenty so I’ll round down to 4. Definitely belongs on the list.

The two hits from this album are quite different from each other: “One Way Or Another” is energetic pop punk…pretty much the definition of new wave now that I think about it. “Heart Of Glass” is dreamy disco, a stylistic stand out on the album. There is plenty of variety here but Debbie Harry holds it all together. She, and the music as a whole, is somehow charming and edgy all at once. And the band seems to be having fun. Definitely a must-listen from one of the most representative new wave bands that dominated the radio in the late 79s and early 80s. Good times!

It is hard to figure why I like this album so much. It is certainly more new wave, punk, alternative and that is a big plus for me. However, the writing is less convincing. I feel like Harry is playing the part of a rock star rather than being a rock star. She is good at it, though, and so she has my respect. Band is solid, too!

Classic rock album loved it

3.5 stars rounded up

Classic album with classic singles

This was a cool album. I knew of "One Way or Another" and "Heart of Glass" but was unfamiliar with the rest of the songs on the album. Overall, an enjoyable listen that had my head bobbing and/or foot tapping the whole way.

Solid album with a bunch of great tunes. All killer no filler.

This album was really solid. Terrific vocals throughout. A couple of great singles from it too.

I love this album , fun, simple, rock! Blondie is a great Band.

Pretty great album. Classic new wave

awesome album. so much fun in every track. banger after banger. her vocals are amazing and there’s some serious riffs here. great record

A really fun pop record with spiky edges and massive hits. There are some weaker tracks but they don't drag it down too much overall. Solidly above average. Still think Debbie Harry needs a good wash, rammy.

Lots of bangers 8/10

What an absolute classic of an album. With hits like One Way Or Another, which is probably my favourite Blondie song, it’s no wonder it’s so good. All the songs feel very cohesive and like they belong together, but there’s still enough variation to keep interest. While some songs like Hanging On The Telephone did feel like they dragged a little it wasn’t enough to really bring down my enjoyment of the album. Gotta love Blondie!

Cool album cover. Some of the hits like Heart of Glass are such good pop turnes. They are so catchy and easy to listen but not as basic as a lot of pop became with time. Fun album to listen to and really well performed. Iconic for a reason and good one to have on the list.

Starts with a great pop song. Then another. Keeps things moving, a cohesive album. I just find her voice a bit stilted. But Heart of Glass works. A fun album.

I haven’t listened to this album in a while so it was a nice refresh on hear after a long time.

Loved it.

Favorite Track: Heart Of Glass

Classy stuff. Few duds in the middle but overall great new wave. One Way or Another is an obvious classic, as is Heart of Glass. Fade Away and Radiate and Pretty Baby are also nice. Sounds like the 80s, even though released in the late 70s. Low 4*

Their third album. Hanging On The Telephone and One Way Or Another are two really catchy opening tracks with great vocals. The album cover is cool. Pop Rock / New Wave / Punk Vibes. Debbie Harry can really mix up her vocal delivery to great effect. Heart Of Glass is a fantastic song ! Melody, vocals and lyrics. Will Anything Happen is a good track, could easily stand up today in 2025.

Definitely more my thing. Has the vibe and the bops.

Some really huge hits and overall a solid record

The hits are hits - everything else is pretty good

Sure the hits are good but some of the other tracks on this album were even better than I could’ve imagined.

After 173 albums, mainly dross, finally something memorable. Tempting to give it 5 but realistically a 4

I knew very little about Blondie going into this, but I’m enjoying it quite a bit more than I expected. I had heard parts of One Way or Another, but I’ve never heard the whole song and there's A LOT more going on here than I realized! Some of the songs lean a bit too far into the pop realm for my preferences but, overall it’s well worth the listen! Favourite tracks: One Way or Another, Fade Away and Radiate, I Know but I Don't Know, Heart of Glass

Fun - but the hits are their hits for a reason.

Not my favorite band from this era/scene, but still solid. The big hits all still hold up, and quite a few of the deep cuts (particularly "Fade Away and Radiate") are excellent as well. 4/5

A couple bangers and mostly fun poppy-ish rock. I dig it

This was a major blind-spot of mine, and I'm glad I got this. I am honestly more familiar with Debbie Harry's work in weird movies (Rock & Rule, Videodrome) than in Blondie, which is at least a little funny, but I think also emphasizes how she was a figure who could really transcend scene, connecting pop charts with the punk world with the arthouse scene. This is reflected in this album's sound, Parallel Lines was very much an influence on the way that new wave would sound in the '80s. This is a combination of immediate pop songwriting, punk attitude and credibility, and an aesthetic that is a careful mix of rock, and the kitchen sink. Honestly, a lot of ground is covered here, the two songs I knew from here (One Way Or Another and Heart of Glass) sound like they could have been by different bands. I was really surprised at just how easily this hooked me, Hanging on the Telephone is a good-ass song, and I know it isn't an original (it is a cover of a song by The Nerves, a band which released almost nothing during their very brief existence) but Blondie really sell it here, I love the jittery little synth lines. Moving onto One Way Or Another, I viewed this song as overplayed, but it sold me in the full album context, in large part due to the instrumental bridge, which I'm pretty sure is usually cut from the radio, but it's like the best part of the song. Listening to this, I was waiting for a song to really lose me, but it never really happened, everything on here is at least good, and even better, these songs are all catchy, and distinct. Other favorites of mine are Fade Away and Radiate, 11:59, Will Anything Happen, and of course, Heart of Glass. Heart of Glass is kind of a weird song to be this album's biggest hit, but it is *really* good, there's something kind of futuristic and crystalline about it, and Debbie Harry's idiosyncratic singing absolutely sells it. Even the worst songs here are pretty good, Sunday Girl is not a bad song, its just a little less interesting than this album's best in my opinion, and the Buddy Holly cover, I'm Gonna Love You Too works in the context of the album, but I could see myself skipping it if it just sort of came on. Realistically, I'd like to give this a 4.5, its really fantastic, alas, I have to choose. I'm not sure if this is yet in my pantheon of 5s, and if you must have an official reason, I'd say its because Hanging On The Telephone, like a top three song here isn't original, which compounds with some of the songs I'm less into here. Despite this, I'd like to emphasize again that this is like *really* good, and it honestly caught me off guard.

I love me some Blondie. Debbie Harry is such an icon and this album features some of their greatest hits! I would most definitely listen to this album again and recommend it to others!

This is a classic album for sure. Sort of new wave, sort of punk-lite, sort of late 70s/early 80s pop. I like it. It may not be one of my favorite records of all time but I've always liked Blondie and this is definitely their most recognizable album. It's got great vocals, great production, great playing. It's good music, not much else to say about it. 4/5

A classic new wave album that brings back a lot of memories. Maybe a bit too poppy, a bit over produced and clean, but a classic.

Debbie Harry is so cool and she made punky pop rock that is wayyy more fun than many others in the genre, just so good.

Was better than I thought it was going to be. Interesting mix of older 60s style pop and newer 70s / 80s music with some great singles.

Is Blondie punk? Shit, no. Is Blondie post-punk? Shit, no. For me, Blondie had nothing to do with punk. Blondie is simply awesome pop rock, or maybe new wave. "One Way or Another" Blondie was and is awesome. The band, the woman, the songs, and especially on "Parallel Lines," you get the whole package. I love Debbie Harry's voice, her way of singing, and I love her style, fantastic. 4 stars and everything has been said.

Fun bouncy album, a bit too much on the pop side of things for me, but some of the songs are a ton of fun. Lead singer’s voice is fantastic and super versatile

Solid tracks to be sure, especially the hits. Consistent all the way through

This album was certainly a product of the time and the mainstays of radio rock. There is a theatrical element to what Deborah brings to the table on this album, although her character is maybe not as intense throughout the whole album. There are a lot of timeless sounds on this album, driving guitars and drums all the way through, great punk-rock leads too. The songwriting was TIGHT on the best tracks, obviously the ones that have carried this album for years. I think that's where the character is the strongest, being on One Way or Heart of Glass. Hanging On The Telephone is my new favorite Blondie track, I can't remember where I heard it before. There's certainly a rock opera aspect to this album, it's just the biggest cuts stand out in their eccentricity. These songs are cute as hell and not too far off from going down to the carhop and grabbing a shake vibes on more than a few songs. Just Go Away is far too annoying compared to the rest of the tracks, especially after the previous track All in all definitely worth a spin.

Un album muy disfrutable, el pop y el rock se combinan muy bien. Mis temas favoritos son: I know but I don't know, Heart of glass y Picture this. 8,5

С удовольствием слушал, не смотря на предубеждения к поп-музыке.

Favorite track: Hanging on the Telephone. Overall score: 8.3/10

New wave is a hit or miss for me. This album is a hit. All song are good. Front to backer

So much more punk than I realized.

I actually really enjoyed this album. A lot of hits and Heart of Glass rocks hard. I could see this being an innovative album for its time.

Extremely versatile lead singer - she’s so strong the whole way through! Super energetic pop punk. Highlights: - Fade Away and Radiate - 11:59 - Will Anything Happen - Heart of Glass - Just Go Away - Once I Had a Love

Fantastic

Iconic for a reason - some really fun songs on this

I knew the hits before of course, didn't know this album was so stacked with them yet somehow I didn't really care that much about songs like 'heart of glass' or 'one way or another', probably because I've heard them too many times before. The one song that I didn't know before that ended up as my favorite song is 'Pretty Baby'. I don't see this song being talked about by anyone else, Idek why I like it that much. I guess I just really like the melody and I can relate to the lyrics in some way. Solid album overall.

Fun, catchy, and varied.

Feels like a film soundtrack

I barely knew blondie. Of course I’ve heard the singles. And knew they played at CBGBs. This was a really good album. New wave as hell with some great guitar.

The first three tracks on Parallel Lines might be the best triple whammy of opening tracks to any album. The economy of the songwriting and the amount of cool exuded by Debbie Harry is hart to beat

Debbie Harry is just so damn cool. Great album.

On a entendu bien pire dans cette liste maudite.

This album rules; starts out strong with my favorite track of theirs (shit; didn't realize it was a cover?!) and keeps it going pretty much the whole time. Drums on this album are deceptively good! 4.2/5

Blondie is very good. I like this album and had never heard it. 3.75/5

I'm loving Pretty Baby. A fun album, the differences in play counts between the two big hits and the rest of the album is crazy.

Really enjoyed this actually. Don’t know why I had low expectations but there a few serious bangers in there. Specific rating - 4.1 Fav song- hanging on the telephone Least fav- picture this

Love love love the hits but there's some other great songs I hadn't heard before on here too- will definitely be listening to 11:59 again. Not every song reached the level that Hanging On The Telephone sets the album up for but overall really good listening experience! Favourite song: Heart Of Glass Least: Fade Away and Radiate

Loved this album! Have heard the singles before but was nice to hear the whole thing. Favs: Hanging on the telephone, One way or another, Sunday girl, Heart of glass. Specific rating: 4.5

Not my type but pretty good

Good album with some absolute bangers: ie One Way or Another, Sunday Girl, and Heart of Glass. The rest of the album was good too. This is what I want with female pop rock, and should be the standard for an amazing album. LISTEN AND LEARN MADONNA!!!!

Really solid album with good production quality, vocals, and overall vibe. Feminine pop music isn’t really my type of thing though so I didn’t add any of the songs to my playlist. I bet my sister would like it though!

Staring with the five singles those are out of the gate bangers. There is a reason two of them are still major players on the radio 37 years later. Their cover of The Nerves' "Hangin' on the Telephone" deserves to be up there with "One Way or Another" and "Heart of Glass". (I do miss the French lryic on "Sunday Girl" which adorns their *Best of* Lp.) The other Jack Lee song "Will Anything Happen?" and the Frip enhanced "Fade Away and Rotate" are great stand out tracks. Most of the rest feel a bit like filler comparatively, but they do a great job covering Buddy Holly and "11:59" has great energy. (8.8) ★★★★

Not my favourite style, but I think Debbie Harry is a really good vocalist. I love "Heart of Glass", bit I have never liked "One Way or Another". 4 stars

A bit of punk-type guitar stuff, but the vocals are amazing, and really fit into a niche which I guess nobody else was hitting at the time. The synth stuff is also really cool and adds textures without really taking over the songs. Some songs are just ok though. Favourite songs: hanging on the telephone, picture this, fade away and radiate, Sunday girl, Heart of glass, Once I had a love, The T.Rex cover at the end is great too. Overall around 7/10

Surprisingly good album for a pop artist. It's a lot of fun to listen to but there is also a lot going on in the instrumentation and the raspy voice is iconic. I'm not going to call it anything ground breaking but you can see how an album like this inspired a lot of similar artists like Pink and Gwen Stefanie a couple of decades later. It's a lot more than just the hits too. This album doesn't take off any tracks and treats each song with a lot of creativity.

Bubbly, fun, and more rock driven than I expected. This was a really fun listen. There was no dip in quality throughout this album, but certain songs hit me was more than others. 11:59, Will Anything Happen, and Hanging in the Telephone were the big standouts for me and will be mainstay listens for me

I love how Blondie changes their sound and vibe through the album.

Timely album. RIP Clem Burke. Wildly underrated drummer.

4-4.5/5

Solid album. Big hits.

Solid! Brought me back to the time when I owned the CD!

Great, several hits and has a nice feel

Punky pop rock at its most charming.

4 solid bangers, a couple snoozers that I could learn to love.

4.5/5 What a stellar voice! Debbie's ability to create a variety of sounds and moods is incredible. This album has such strong presence. "Hanging On The Telephone" is the perfect intro to the album with "One Way Or Another" following on its heels. "Picture This" provides a nice mood change while keeping the energy. "Fade Away And Radiate" gives such a rich sound to the album as a whole while "Pretty Baby" keeps the album light and fun. Anthem-like pop rock song "I Know But I Don't Know" has some funky sounds. "11:59" almost has a folky sound to it? Totally rocks though. "Will Anything Happen" has such a fun tone and drive that makes me want to dance. The overall upbeat mood of the album is kept by "Sunday Girl" and "Heart of Glass" while "I'm Gonna Love You Too" digs into those catchy, funky sounds. With its catchy melody, unique vocals, and synthy drive, "Just Go Away" is a great outro for the album.

First time really listening to Blondie. Dug it a lot. Will go back and revisit.

Bought this on CD several years ago and genuinely thought it was a greatest hits. Fantastic LP

What a worthy addition! Parallel Lines is fun and energetic new wave. Every song is unique and brings a different vibe to the album. Their original "One Way or Another" song is so different from the many covers and I'm obsessed with the punk aspect. Debbie Harry's vocals aren't the quality of someone like Cher or Dionne Warwick, but god her imperfect vocals are rich, enticing, and aptly used in every song. I definitely noticed the influence Blondie had on other musical acts, No Doubt in particular. Gwen Stefani's early look cannot be a coincidence, considering Debbie Harry's iconic image.

Many of Blondie's most well known songs are straight from this album, and those songs alone are worth their weight in music gold. That said, the rest of this album which may be a bit lesser known to many casual listeners deserves its flowers, too! Blondie does a really good job here in the late 1970s of straddling several genres -- disco, pop, rock, punk, and new wave. And maybe even more impressive, they manage to do it all in their own style while sounding effortlessly cool, both in instrumentation and the irreplaceable voice of Debbie Harry. This isn't a band that is necessarily known for pioneering any sounds, but damn they sure knew how to take a sound and make it theirs, and "Parallel Lines" exemplifies that.

Classic album alert!

always really liked these albums .. i just dont think i understand CGBG at all... like the first band i associate with the club is the ramones (punk rock?) but so many other bands associated with the club are like pop rock bands like this ? random ass club

Absolute classic.

Starts off strong with hanging on the telephone and the guitar and instrumentation is really nice! ONE WAY OR ANOTHER IM GONNA FIND YAAA, omg so she sings this! I can’t believe I’m so uncultured and naive lmao. All I want is 20/20 vision, realest words ever spoken. Heart of glass is really good sort of funky but with elements of pop? I think I maaay have heard it before but still good!

Great album!

I know the hits, but nothing else. I'm liking the deep cuts, Fade Away and Radiate being a favorite. Great tack. I Know But I Don't Know is groovy, too. Several different styles blended together on this album. It's better than I thought it would be. Heart of Glass is an all-time great. This is a 4.1.

Chomping at the bit right out of the gate with power pop punk rock n' roll. They bring the energy, and keep it up with the hit "One Way or Another." I never noticed how the bass line keeps a country bounce through the verse while the drummer makes the whole song seem faster by playing a backbeat. There are some interesting turns on this with a short drum feature, an entirely different bridge, and a coda that is another melody line entirely until going back to a variation of the chorus. "Picture This" has a lighter sound. Though not reggae, I can hear Jimmy Cliff's "You Can Get It If You Really Want", and though not rock, I can hear the Stone's "Beast of Burden" in the verse melody. This and the slower follow up of "Fade Away and Radiate" finds Debbie Harry somehow channeling the 60's vocal styling of the likes of the Ronettes and Barbara Mason; classic, yet modern and edgy. The drummer's kickfoot gets a workout on "I Know But I Don't Know." Maybe it's just me, but main riff feels like it should be in 7/8; missed opportunity! Oooh, but they took it with the 7/4 in "Heart of Glass." I appreciate this project for forcing me to listen closely to some songs I've heard before and to find things I've overlooked. I can imagine Morissey singing a version of "11:59." This album keeps me guessing; it keeps evolving and re-inventing itself but never feels out-of-place or foreign. "I'd didn't expect them to do that, but it makes sense." Who else was doing anything remotely similar in 1978? This is peerless.

Love Blondie. Drummer Clem Burke just passed away. RIP. Faves on this album are "Hanging On The Telephone," "Fade Away and Radiate," and "Sunday Girl."

Verdomd goed pop album. 8,5/10 Highlighs: Picture This Fade Away And Radiate 11:59 Heart of Glass

Borderline 4 stars

Woman lead. Catchy tunes. Great album cover.

Blondie definitely pushed the boundaries, especially for the 70s, as the pioneered a new genre of music, which I respect. Although this album won't be on a regular listening rotation for me (it might), I definitely appreciate the impact of this band. Listening to Blondie reminds me of simpler times playing video games with my brother. I'm pretty sure every song on this album was on Tony Hawk's American Wasteland or GTA (they weren't). But it feels like it (again, they weren't). Like many others, Glass Half Full is my favorite song. I also enjoyed Sunday Girl, Hanging on the Telephone, and One Way or Another. I'm giving this a 4.

Nice, and a lot of iconic songs, but just did not get hooked on it.

Oof it’s like 4.5 really

Amazing album. Her voice is incredible, and the mixture of different genres is awesome.

Bubble-gum with spikes. Still sounds fabulous, the singles shimmer like pop perfection but all so effortlessly cool, the band the strokes wish they could have been.

An unbelievable time capsule mix of pop, disco, and punk. There were some reggae chords in there at time. Great listen.

music for girl perverts. thank god!

Love that 80s vibe. A couple of classics and some additional catchy tunes. Debby Harry was so great, strong vocals. Can really feel the emotion in her singing.

Very fun album, concentrated 80s, lots of great tracks, very enjoyable, a few made the permanent playlist

She's so cool

She has such a great voice!

Dig their later LPs more, but this one is the best of early Blondie era

Enjoyed more than I expected 3 songs saved

Individual Song thoughts: 1 - Consider me surprised. This song is pretty rockin'. I've only heard One Way Or Another before, so this has me a bit shocked how much I enjoyed it. Feels like so many bands would be influenced by this group 2 - Heard before. Still don't love it, just a bit cheesy. Didn't notice the growl of her voice before, which was cool. 3 - Pleasant! Enjoy the chorus. 4 - Epic dramatic opening, almost reminds me of prog. Lyrics come in and I'm shook. Insanely good instrumentals. Vocals of song don't really build anywhere, but it's more of a mood. 5 - Cool vocals. Nice song. 6 - VERY strange. Male vocals are off. 7 - Fun. I like her vocals so much. I can see this album being a good one to put on all the way through more than individual songs. 8 - Forward moving jam that feels kinda punk (almost). Chorus good. Such versatility in the breadth of songs this album has. 9 - Summery, sweet, fun. 10 - OH SHE DID THIS SONG TOO? THIS SONG IS SUCH A BOP. 11- Fun. Okay for a deep cut. 12 - Kind of cheesy, but not bad. Overall: Saved to my profile. Will definitely listen to this one again.

This one was pretty cool. I was familiar with one way or another but hadn't really sat down and listened to Blondie before

i loveeeee blondie. such a great album.

Bunch of hits on here. Really rocking. Great record to start off with.

pretty good, clssic pop/pop rock

Hanging on the Telephone One Way or Another Picture This Sunday Girl Heart of Glass

Genuinely surprised by the scope of this album. "I know but I don't know" has riffs that wouldn't feel out of place on some Rush albums, and "Fade Away and Radiate" does a great impression of psychedelic rock. Kinda. Blondie is best at it's bounciest and brightest however. Sunday Girl, Heart if Glass, Will Anything Happen all slap. Keep it simple, stupid.

I love Blondie. It's New Wave. It's fun. I enjoy this so much. It's a time and place and feels like it in a good way. I like that they were trying different things.

весело весене оптимистик

Honestly, pretty great. This is up there with the Pretenders album I reviewed as really clever pop-rock that has ambitious musicality and great production. Some tunes didn’t hit like others, but the ones that did hit hard. Good stuff. Must-listen #104.

It's a really great pop album without any real dips in quality. There's so many big hits on here, but even the ones I didn't know are good. It's just a very tight, consistently good album. Good hooks and melodies, and plenty of hits.

4/5 Enjoyable to listen to. Gets slightly repetitive in the middle.

Lubię zespoły z charyzmatyczną wokalistką. Wybijają się na tle innych. A to jeden z najbardziej znanych. 7/10

I used to be OBSESSED with this album in high school. So much so that I got burned out of it and stopped listening to it for years. Now that I listen to it again, it feels like seeing a long-lost friend. I remembered the time I listened to Picture This for the first time. 8/10.

Very solid.

As great as it has always been. Heart of Glass is by far the best track here and is a stylistic departure from the rest of the album that I wish they indulged in more. Very obvious influence on Regine from Arcade Fire.

This album starts really strong with several really catchy tunes. Unfortunately it starts to run out of steam before the album is done, but that doesn’t stop it from being a great time nonetheless. I can absolutely see myself tossing this on again for another listen in the future.

Interesting: my wife knew some songs that I didn't and I knew several that she didn't. Go figure. A nice strong album

This album went to down easy. Debbie Harry has the ultimate rock voice.

This album sounds ahead of its time, with lots of variety and styles. Fantastic voice.

Sign of a good album...enjoying the songs you don't know in addition to the hits.

Looking like an angry bride in front of a bunch of goofball groomsmen on the cover, this album has Blondie starting to allow herself to step into the brighter lights of the mainstream. Her band never really felt right neither in the punk nor the new wave circuit but as long as she kept that attitude and pep, it all feels cohesive. This is perhaps why you can hear her make pop songs alongside punk alongside disco and nobody bats an eye. Rolling Stones, KISS, Rod Stewart, and so many more legacy rock acts got dragged for a crossover but Blondie seemed to gain a pass with Heart of Glass. I think she got away with it not only because she was not a longtime legacy rock act, but because she was always experimental with her genres by nature. This album is no different, and I find it quite listenable, although the replayability between the standouts and the deep cuts is so vast.

A really good pop album, where the only real song is the sixth track. The rest are enjoyable. Of course I knew that Hanging on the Telephone and Heart of Glass were bangers, but 11:59 and the great Buddy Holly cover were nice discoveries as well. Btw, check out the original version of … Telephone as well. Didn’t realise it was a cover un til today

I signed up on this site that sends you an album everyday from the list of “1001 albums you have to listen to before you die” via mail. And parallel lines is a good album to start with! I’ve listened to it before and I’ve heard songs like “heart of glass” and “one way or another” definitely more than a couple of times, but it was nice to revisit it and refresh my memory.

Blonde is special. The iconic post-punk superstar of a generation. I am sure nobody today knows this really, but she was a model and conventionally good looking and instead of being a pop-star, she went more hardcore and edgy and pushed that social convention. She never shaved her head or tattooed her face or "showed" her punk roots, she remained feminine in a conventional way yet proved her fierce, take no shits nature still worked. She did not have to take on some persona to be taken seriously. She changed a standard that women could present as they wanted and not lose power. Thus her band "Blondie" dared people to deny her that hardcore status. This album is not my favorite but still, she remains an iconic character in my music memory box.

Blondie is here to save me from my previous days mid uninspiring album! What a great voice, what great catchy tunes!

A pretty nice album. I don’t love it, but every song is good. That’s all I have see you next time

When I was in 6th grade my brother got a boomnox, and because it was the floor.model, it came with a copy of Best of Blondie in it. We listened to hat tapena ton and I have a lot of affection for those songs. Sadly, the non-singles on this don't live up to quite that greatness. But still better than most of the stuff on this list.

The singles are so good that it kind of drowns out the rest of the album. But the rest isn’t bad!

Solid album, “Heart of Glass” is a 5

You can see why Blondie were successful - when they get it right they're a brilliant band, and there are obvious stand outs in Hanging on the Telephone, Heart of glass, one way or another. Several other songs are interesting, and nothing is terrible, although some songs are a little forgettable. I feel like the grit of the first two songs is missing in a few places, it doesn't quite reach the level of 5 for me...

Was a 3 until the buddy holly cover! Hilarious that was the lead single when there are actual iconic songs on this

An album that helped punk and post punk evolve into new wave, which just happens to be my favorite of the waves. My absolute favorite of the Blondie albums as well.

Perhaps the greatest new wave album of all time.

Can’t believe it’s been five years since I first heard this, its ggggrrreeeaaat

Pretty good

Nästan det bästa ett pop album kan vara, stiliga idéer som utförs rent

Some classics, the rest of the tracks are good, but not fantastic musically. Punk scene of the late 70s early 80s on display, but not my fave. Would be a worthy addition to a playlist of the genre but don't see myself seeking it out.

This is one of many albums that brought new wave into the mainstream and always a good listen. I have always loved Debbie Harry's vocals and the rest of the band compliments her very well.

Canción favorita: Heart of glass. La voz distintiva y rasposa de la cantante vuelve a las canciones únicas. Letras pegajosas acompañadas de una buena banda sonora.

Dang, this pretty good. Solid. Like glass. Of the heart.

A particularly good Blondie album! I mean, I’ll be honest, Blondie is a band I mostly know from the hits but this seems like a particularly good album. So good for you, Blondie!

Fucking Debbie Harry ya know.

Oh I really liked this

From the start, Hanging on the Telephone rocks. One Way... followed, I think, and was equally a banger. Then things slow down some, but do not drag. Love when her voice gets gravelly.

Pleasantly surprised by this one. Beyond the hit singles, was a nice somewhat eclectic mix of moods and musical ideas.

Kinda boring but her bangers were on here

Canción destacada: Heart of Glass

This album starts out with some great hits. It's still overall good. I love how that album cover is a reciprocal version of Robert Palmer's album. She was so ahead of her time and defines sexy cool. I feel like I should be listening on a 8-track in a Ford Pinto.

Fun pop music. Both ahead of its time and kind of a throw back.

Blondie is a powerhouse. The band does a great job mixing punk, pop, disco, and new wave into catchy as hell songs while Deborah Harry is equal parts sultry and sassy as she purrs, croons, and belts out her siren song.

Great album. Standout Tracks: - Hanging On The Telephone - One Way Or Another - Sunday Girl

Love her voice! Rock vibe is so unique!

Equal parts gritty punk and bubble gum pop, really fun listen

Blondie rocks

This was a solid record from start to finish. One of the middle songs takes an odd turn, but I really love the chorusy guitar parts and fun melodies.

The thing about some early punk albums is that they can kinda blend together. Blondie does not have that problem. The bits of pop, disco, new wave, and I think even a bit of reggae? An great showing from a fun band

Useampi tunnettu hitti mutta laatu pysyy! Todella hyvä poprocklevy tälleen bändin punkkikauden jälkeen 4/5

Taas kerran hyvä pop-rock-levy, joka toimii megahitin ulkopuolellakin. Ja se megahittihän on hyvä! 4/5

had some tunes

Good fun.

I tell you, my face when I realized that Heart of Glass is 1). on this album, 2). a Blondie song. Overall, same with Rumors, this seems just like very of the times. I'm don't think there was a concept album here, seemed like a lot of songs that they just came up with, had the same sound, and put on an album. I mean, so many of the songs are just like absolutely seminal (One Way Or Another and Heart of Glass but I feel like there's other that I can't recall even though I have the track list pulled up).

I know the hits from this record. Never listened to the album. “Fade away and radiate” is a wonderful song. I can’t believe this is the first time I’m hearing it.

all killer no filler. Perfect pop and new wave blend.

I really enjoyed this album all around. It had variety and her voice was good. Excellent listen.

was only familiar with the 2 singles off here & was pleasantly surprised with rest of album. her voice is stronger on several other tracks. enjoyed the blend of a little punk/new wave/rock. it worked.

Fantastic.

3.5 rounded up

The sort of music I think of if you say 80's pop rock. I can hear the new wave/punk influence in some of the guitar and bass lines in most of the songs. Really still love One Way or Another and Heart of Glass; not so much for Fade Away And Radiate or I'm Gonna Love You Too.
