Reviews (page 6 of 7)

Early punk is not my thing. Too much slamming one chord and manic drumming for my likes.

I dunno. To me it sounds like every other late '70s punk album. It's just... meh. Not bad, but not anything I'd search out again.

Some individual songs that I enjoyed but overall this was very meh and oftentimes annoying. I don’t really see why this is such a lauded album.

Kinda mid but it helps me understand that punk and rock weren’t that different to begin with ig

1978. British Rock in the punk era. Shortlived but pretty fun to listen through until the lack of diverse sound drones on too long.

I hadn't heard of the Adverts prior to today. This wasn't bad, per se, but there didn't seem to be much special about it. A high two.

Long and trying

Pretty okay but not my favorite style of punk

I listened to the album, then read the wiki. "a devastating debut" they said. [Crossing the Red Sea With The Adverts] is the equal of the first Sex Pistols or The Clash." Then why the fuck is the first I'm hearing of them? I can understand buried treasure, but The Adverts aren't it. They play the right chords and sing punk, but they're a second rate. Nary a decent lyric or memorable song amongst the album. I'm constantly disappointed by what this list tries to pass off as "essential" punk, and this is no exception.

Another mid album. A positive is that it inspired me to listen to Motörhead All the Aces album. 1.5/5

Just not in the mood for punk today - seemed fine.

brit slop

Early punk esque yelling rock. Not bad but a lot of it sounds the same

Not unpleasant but at the same time it becomes annoying and you're happy to be done. 2.5

Wow! Another completely average record! I'm amazed at how aggressively mediocre everything about it is! This is certainly one of THE albums EVER released! It has drums, a bassist, guitars, and even some guy singing... unbelievable! This list has uncovered another album I had never listened to and won't ever again! Two stars!

I didn't really get a chance to listen to all of this but what I heard was ok, but kinda boring...

I want to like this but it's too monotonous.

Decent brit rock (/punk perhaps?) album. Nice sound and decent grooves. Best song was On Wheels.

Quick and punchy punk. Has "that" sound. But it feels more like a stylistic choice than a philosophical one, since the songs themselves don't seem to have much to say. Some tracks are just amateurish. Not sure why I had to listen to this before I die.

Yet another new age British rock album that sounds the same throughout... how fun....

Another of my reviews didn't save for some reason. Well, I'm not rewriting this one. I said some things about what makes a great punk album great and what makes a mediocre punk album mediocre. But I'm not wasting my time with all of that. This is a two-star album; it's mediocre at best.

Todas as músicas são iguais

Just not THAT interesting

This is a solid example of late 1970s British punk, but not much more. It’s a decent listen, but it doesn’t stand out compared to similar bands of the period. As with a lot of albums on this list that seemed subversive at the time of release, they just don’t impact in the same way today.

I imagine this album might’ve been more impactful when it was first released, especially played live. Listening now, however, I hear pretty generic 70s British punk, with little to mark it out from myriad other (better?) bands of the era. There was also little to distinguish the songs from each other, which meant they did largely blur into one for me, and the best song, ‘Gary Gilmore’s Eyes’, wasn’t even on the original release. This sameness wasn’t helped by the washed-out, reverb-heavy production either. My overall impression is of a decent album that hasn’t really stood the test of time.

American Clash?

Difficult to remember how imaginative this was in '78, but it now sounds like just another punk album. Gary Gilmore's eyes definitely doesn't have the impact it did at the time and the punk format is just too limited to allow an album of this length to be interesting. 2*

not my taste

I did not like this album. It’s not bad but it seemed like something was off in the music. Something was missing. The it factor was missing in this music. You know when a band has it and doesn’t. Even with the bands that were less famous. I was wondering why I had never heard their music because I listen to a lot of late 70s and early 80s punk. It’s just not that good.

I’m beginning to sense a pattern in the author’s biases…

Only 40 albums in and I'm already sick of British punk bands.

The most generic punk rock album you could imagine. It sounds exactly as I thought it would. Basic guitar work, slightly exaggerated vocals and juvenile lyrics. Absolutely forgettable.

Tbh impressive sound for the 70’s. Sounds ahead of its time.

These guys are one-chord wonders, gotta appreciate how creative they can be within such narrow limitations, and their fierceness is authentic. But damn it gets old quick so an compelling album it does not make.

very basic, very standard, very borin

i liked how at the very first melody i instantly thought abt how rodrick heffley would enjoy this and how its also giving such an anime music vibe straight out from k-on

It's alright I guess. Some of the references are missing me, the music is fine. It's just kinda forgettable. Maybe their other albums are better?

Not bad UK Punk has some decent bass lines.

I wouldn’t call it bad, but it doesn’t sound like anything new. Sounds like anything else in this genre without any nuance.

Listening to this list has really made me realize how much I dislike British punk in particular... Some solid ideas both musically and lyrically, but in execution it's just hard to listen to. A shallow and homogenous sound imbued with all the angst of a teenage boy from the suburbs.

Time for the monthly, unpleasant dose of British punk.

I don’t think it’s for me, got kinda boring

Spirited and youthful. Honestly not something of return to.

Pretty standard '70s British punk, but also lacking something to make it truly great. 2.5

It’s standard, middle-of-the-road, English punk.

Never heard of these guys, after one listen nothing really stood out very much and it seems like very average 70s UK Punk. Not sure why this is on the list, 2, perhaps 3 stars but that's pushing a bit.

Felt repetitive and a bit of a chore to get through. Not awful but too few right spots

Scrappy, high-strung songs built from buzzing guitars, sharply punched bass lines, and brisk, no-frills drumming, with vocals delivered in a brittle, urgent yelp that sounds perpetually on edge, move this Punk album like sprinting across thin ice, raw, tense, driven by nervous momentum rather than finesse and about to break. Unfortunately not available in Deezer. Listening trough YouTube is always such a pain.

Not obnoxious punk, but not really amazing either.

It was ok … it’s a shame the best song on the album wasn’t on the original release

I’m sure that during this period, The Adverts were an exciting band. Nowadays, their sound is definitely raw and to the point. Still, I wasn’t blown away by this record. The band lacks the edge that made other bands sound so great during this era of punk. Every song sort of blends together with their fast paced instrumentation and the fuzziness of the production itself.

Another triple blind. Pretty garden variety British Invasion type stuff. Not that impressed…

Pretty basic punk rock nothing special. My favorite song was Great British Mistake.

Pretty bland generic punk

This is like listening to your friend's local garage band, recorded in an actual garage.

Moses making everybody cross the Red Sea BUT you have to watch 3 unskippable 30 second adverts? Terrible idea

1. chord - 1.5 2. teenagerz -1 3. church - 1.5 4. Roof -1.5 5. Boys - 1.5 6. Eyes - 0 7. Boy - 1.5 8. Time - 1 9. Numbers - 1.5 10. Dawns -1 11. Men - 1.5 12. Wheels - 1 13. Mistake -1

Lots of short songs, but they all sound kind of the same. Sounds a bit like The Ramones or many others in their neck of the woods. I've heard Gary Gilmore's Eyes somwhere before.

This had some bangers

Heavy British Punk influence

Yet another punk period angry album.

Had potential but didn't love it

Its punk, but there's better punk.

More same-y British punk from the 70s. Like I'm sorry, but this list has too many omissions for me to give this the benefit of the doubt. If the Clash are on this list, The Adverts don't need to be.

Never heard of these guys, with good reason

If I wanted to cross the red sea I wouldn't do it with these boys

It is what it is.

It was a bit samey, but the music was ahead of its time, I could hear other bands 10-20 years down the line copying the sound 2.5

Didnt do anything for me, I just cant get away with the vocal style makes this rather tame punk all sound the same. Some good guitar and passable drumming but the rest wasnt good. Joe Strummer and Mick Jones they aint.

Just kind of uninteresting

The album I rated before this one was a 5, so it kinda came in with a debuff. Still, most of this kinda went in one ear and out the other for me. Great British Mistake is alright though.

Heard of them but it's my first time listening to them. Sounds fine but nothing too crazy 2/5

Pretty paint by the numbers punk. In the grand scheme of punk releases to put on this list a bit underwhelming. 2.4/5 - 2/5

Opening song good - rest kinda boring and repetetive

Not great. Juvenile and boring.

Product of its time - hasn’t aged well

I'm all in on 70s and 80s punk, and there's plenty of fantastic British punk from that era. Some of those bands even sound like The Adverts (like, exactly the same.) But most of those bands have some special quality that sets them apart, or at least some differentiating quality. Dynamic range, knacks for melodies, interesting lead singers. There's just nothing here to latch onto. Some of these songs showing up in a shuffled playlist would be welcome, but listening to the thing in its entirety was a case of it sounding like the first track got played on repeat. At least until "Bombsite Boy," but even there it felt like a shallow version of a certain punk song archetype.

I struggled to get my head around this. It's more rock than punk, even taking a few unwelcome steps towards goth. What a racket from a bunch of young Herberts. It's a sludge of an album that sounds as though it's stuck in time. I've never got on with Gary Gilmore's Eye. Sixth form humour at best.

Not great. Again, no reason for this to be here. All these mediocre albums on here is why I gave up last time...

10/14/25. Straight up, classic punk. Good listen, reminds me of music you'd put on a skateboarding montage. Although, I don't feel like this stands out much compared to other bands of the era.

More or less what I'd expect given the country and era. Not really my cuppa.

I suppose you had to be there, which I was, but I was only two years old. There are a host of punk acts I admire after the fact, but The Adverts aren't really one of them - a bit limited and one-dimensional for my tastes. Meh.

Forgettable punk

All English punk rock doesn't sound the same but goddamn a good handful do

It basically sounded like one very long, boring song

Nothing special.

Better than slipknot.

I always find a few songs from early punk bands to get excited about. Difficult to keep me on board for a full album. Production seemed bright and crisp compared to others from the era. What I’d do to be a bored teenager one more time!

Boooooorrriiiiiinnngggg

I was around kids so day so couldn't give this a proper listen since it was all rated explicit. What I did listen to wasn't my taste at all. I have a hard time listening to punk since it's so abrasive, which is the point I suppose.

78/1089 This album isn’t bad, it serves it’s purpose, the instrumentation, vocals and lyrics are cool enough but just don’t stand out to me. Maybe listening to this genre as full albums rather than singles isn’t the best form for me. That said, i liked that it said what it needed to and keep it short and sweet 24/100

A British 70's punk band? I've seen this one before. This one does nothing to differentiate itself from the others.

Not fond of it. Some songs sound similar to others. Not my style

Just a bit too shouty for my taste but also not tasteful shouting

Not my style. Tried opening up to it, but it literally gave me a headache.

All songs sound the same. Went on too long. Should’ve ended at track 11

Vocals just didn't really do it for me at all throughout the entire album. Didn't think the instrumentals were bad but have no desire to listen to this again.

Although this comes from my teens I had no memory of The Adverts until I saw the track list and recognised Looking Through Gary Gilmore’s Eyes. The rest of the album isn’t memorable - I quite likedSafety in Numbers.

it starts terrible and keeps that consistency throughout. a lot of these songs just feel like continuations of others. Fast UK punk rock, you've heard this before.

From the first note I knew I wouldn’t like this album… and I was right!

I like punk but this was ass

At first, it sounded like any other British Punk Rock album, but the second half of the album was, if nothing else, versatile. Still, Punk Rock music is not my cup of tea. Favorite Track: "On The Roof".

The nth UK punk album. It’s decent but I wonder what other album from another genre I would have rather listened before I die…

I'm not highly into British punk and this is that. Average punk record with a decent sound, just not for this guy.

One Chord Wonders Bored Teenagers Gary Gilmore's Eyes

There’s a reason a lot of punk fades from view. Most of it is not terribly good. That which is great stays. And the rest fails. Now some of this is understandable. Unschooled anarchists or rebels trying to take music back from over schooled elitists. But like advanced experimental music some of it isn’t going to work past its initial shock. Never mind the bollocks holds up. London calling by the clash and actually nearly all of the clash holds up. The Ramones. New York Dolls. Johnny Thunders Heartbreakers. There’s a few others. This doesn’t hold up. I’m sure it hit like a bomb in 1978. But now it’s not there, just a hole where it was. It’s good but not compelling. And hence not essential. Has some energy.

I’m still not sure how much I like punk. This was alright, actually, but I didn’t find myself loving it and likely I won’t re-listen, so it’s a 2, even though it’s probably better than a 2 for others.

not my style but its not like bad but its not captivating like im bored

Listening to this right after The Clash and Wire...it's ok, but far from the best example of the genre.

Most basic of early Brit-punk. And I cannot say I’m a fan of that era or genre.

5/10 - it was an alright punk album. Sometimes they hit sometimes they don’t

Other British punk bands have tread this ground (and done it much better). Main gripe: The guitar work lacks creativity - even within the stylings of punk rock. There’s no variation in the tone or distortion, it’s just totally one dimensional. And then it just bangs on and on about rebellion and being so disillusioned. Not for me ⭐️⭐️

What was the point of having me listen to this? By the first song I’d heard all that it had to offer. Which isn’t much. I guess I’m just not a huge punk fan.

Good from a punk sense, but nowhere close to Sex Pistols, Misfits, etc.. Kinda repatitve and boring by the end. Same 3 chords over and over. Maybe it was tongue in cheek that the first song on this album is One Chord Wonders. 2.25/5 stars.

There were a few hits here, but there were a bunch of misses as well. Most tracks started great, but then took a nosedive when the vocals came in. Favourite Track(s): Newboys Least Favourite Track(s): Bored Teenagers, New Church

I’m sure this mighta been influential at the time but now it just sounds like average punk lite.

I’ve been on a uk punk binge lately but this doesn’t really do anything for me. Meh.

Grew on me after a few listens over a few days. Most songs truly sound the same, but I don't mind the intention that it has across songs (mainly after listening to Pink Flag by Wire -- random rubbish). No songs that truly stick with me, I've heard Gary Gilmore's Eyes before (still not a fave), but cool to know of and throw in the mix occasionally

Early punk inspiration. I cannot BELIEVE Gary Gilmore’s Eyes is their #1 listened to track… how unnecessarily repetitive 😂 I feel like I should have liked this more?

It started fun but then it all felt one note and too much of the same. I got bored :(

Didn't hate it, wouldn't choose it.

Didn’t love it. Didn’t dislike it. I just couldn’t get into it. I’m guessing this was one of the first albums of its kind in the 70s and I’m sure influenced a lot of bands I enjoy, but considering my ratings of other albums this gets a 2 from me. I’m glad I experienced it and held out for the “Great British Mistake.” I need to educate myself on the early punk scene. I may have a greater appreciation for this later.

I barely remember listening to this the first time, and I barely remember listening to it this time. It blends in with all the other 70s punk

I appreciate that this is probably one of the first albums in the burgeoning punk rock genre at

"We don't give a damn" yeah, no shit man, me either. Why was this album included? Was someone in the band related to the author of 1,0001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die?

This was toward the top of the punk rock spectrum for me. I liked being able to understand the lyrics, and I liked that this rates relatively high on musicality. Punk rock just isn't really for me, ultimately, so I still wasn't a big fan of this.

Far too much 70s/80s British punk albums on this list. They all sound pretty much the same.

Homem-marmelada , oi oi oi... Punk embrionário. Importante mas...2 estrelas

Didn’t feel like listening to the single/live edits. Just another generic British punk album. Very redundant and boring.

solid punk, but not my genre so much

4/10 Nothing to write home about all pretty standard rock that doesn’t stand out

whatever

Apparently this is a cornerstone punk album; can't say I really understand why. Pretty forgettable. Could be me missing something but I gave it more than one listen.

There are better early punk albums.

Ok 2/5

Don’t like punk? Try this! It’s punk lite!

Not horrible, but a few steps below ok.

Ludicrously boring. I can't believe that this is grouped in with the rest of the early punk bands.

Punk, 1978 -> 2

Yuck, boring, generic punk, ew ew. I mean it sounds ok because all punk sounds ok. TWO!

It was ok. I’m not a massive punk fan but I got through this album in one piece!

Fine but bored

Feels like more relatively mild punk. Maybe it just wasn't a great match for my mood this morning, but it didn't really land for me.

It was safe punk. In the middle.

Punk doesn't usually do it for me

Just not for me.

A punk album with a singer who can sing which makes it 1 star better than most. God I hate punk

Tried to objectively listen to this even though there has been 901 albums just like this on this list. I think I would be more inclined to appreciate British punk if there was less of it. I thought I reeeally liked the second song, until I looked at my phone and saw it had switched back to my queue of other artists. Anyways, I decided that on brit pop/punk/junk reviews I will be putting albums that could've made the list instead. Because there’s too many of this kind of album on the list. Today's pick was too recent to make the list, but is a good album. "Rituals On The Bank Of A Familiar River" by Kiki Rockwell.

Not the worst punk music I've heard actually. But also find it a bit tricky to find songs that breaks through the noise entirely. 'Bored Teenagers' is probably the one songs that really manages that for me. Nothing I will revisit again, but it was actually decent for being punk. Strong 2.

The sound was good but it was really just one sound all through out. Had trouble differentiating between any songs. Not a fan of the mixing either, hard to hear the vocals and it just sounded a bit flat.

Generic 70s UK punk. A genre that's already over represented on this list.

Never heard of this band before and 3 songs in I'm just not feeling it, its like it wants to be punk, with a hint of new wave... But doesn't really succeed at either.

I see this was ranked the 17th greatest punk album. That actually seems like a rather LOW ranking for a movement that quickly displaced itself and gave way to post-punk and new wave. By the time this album came out we had the Ramones, the Clash, and the Sex Pistols. We had Talking Heads releasing their second (amazing) album and the Cars releasing their first. A few days after this Adverts album came out, Public Image Ltd released their first album. It’s like all the punk bands are packing up their equipment as the Adverts are jumping onto the stage, a little too late. It’s cute but unnecessary.

There was a time I would have tried to love this. But there's too much sawing and just not enough joy or enough anarchy.

Pretty run of the mill punk rock album, I would much rather listen to The Clash.

It’s fine

These songs all sound very similar to me. Another album that I am not thrilled about.

Hmmm, kinda anxiety inducing....

Didn’t grab me

Competent but unremarkable

boring menage a noise 2.3/5

My expectations weren't high when I saw that this was a British punk rock album. However, it positively surprised me and was actually better than expected, this doesn't mean that it was amazing or deserved to be on this list but I got through the whole album and there were a few decent songs.

Not for me.

My primary criticism of this album is that all the songs sound too much the same. It's not that creative. I like the vibe of the music and was at a 3 with the album after one listen. Most music gets a little better with each listen as you catch new things in the song that you hadn't really picked up on before. But this music gives me nothing to come back for. I was really done with it after one listen which is a special kind of sucks.

I see this was ranked the 17th greatest punk album. That seems like a really low ranking for a movement that quickly displaced itself and gave way to post-punk and new wave. Totally forgettable.

Not my thing, maybe when I was younger, but not now. It doesn’t sound completely awful, the production is halfway decent. But musically, it doesn’t do much for me.

Not my first choice in music, not the best of britpop/britpunk but an alright album. Some songs definitely lacking

Decent punk album

None of these tracks are really my cup of tea

The skip button was made for this

a lot of sameness for me

Had a pretty good run of great albums so while it was kind of nice hearing something new, this did nothing for me.

Punk music requires punk rock taste, which I just do not have. Best song on the album was the last one.

wow another 70's punk album from the UK. How original, much punk

Ajoittain ihan kuunneltavaa, mutta en inspiroitunut.

Oliks tää sitä punkkii? Eli ei jääny mieleen. Ei ärsyttävästi eikä innostavastikaan

The Great British Mistake should have been the name of this band

So they'll let into Abbey Road

magazine if they were trash what kink does this guy have for terrible sounding guitars?

Pre-listening thoughts: never heard of em Post/during listening thoughts: oh joy more British punk! Not like there’s enough of that on this list. But fr I am so done with this genre. And this doesn’t have a lot that makes it stand out from its competitors (or itself. All of these songs sound the same) 4/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: no Fav tracks: Safety in Numbers Least fav tracks: On The Roof

Compared to other punk bands albums from the same era, it sounds pretty generic. It’s not horrible but it did very little for me.

This project is obsessed with 70s punk and most of it is not that interesting. 2*

Maybe one chord would have been better…

It’s not too surprising to me that The Adverts broke up shortly after this album- listening to it, it’s difficult to work out a direction they might progress in. Lightning in a bottle… and then the bottle smashed.

I don’t want to hear “Gary Gilmore’s Eyes” ever again

#69 - Every song is very similar, and the sound is not original.

In a nutshell: non-aggressive punk. First thought: "is this what Dexys would sound like if they made a punk album?". Nice riffs, disengaging lyrics. Compared to other punk and punk rock titles on the list, it's not really adding to the genre. In 1977 alone- pre-dating this Adverts debut- these albums were released: *The Damned's "Damned Damned Damned" in February then "Music For Pleasure" in November (label mates of The Adverts) *The Saints "(I'm) Stranded" (released in February, but the title track was recorded in June 1976 and this Brisbane band may not even heard of The Damned at the time, let alone The Ramones) *The Clash's self titled debut (April) *And the famous "hit and quit" Never Mind The Bollocks (October) Check it out if first wave UK punk rock is your thing. Otherwise, skip and try "(I'm) Stranded" or an early album by The Damned. Overall: 3/10

Generic 80s 'alternative' music. Like a shit buzzcocks.

meeh, Punk

I like the sound, but it is very repetitive. Not much variety. That being said, if I grew up with this music I’m sure I would be jamming out to every song.

Generic Punk rock... Not so much to like

Same as all the other british punk groups on here, I did enjoy it as I have the others but is this not just a worse version of the clash? Not a bad album at all

Achei bem chato.

Feels a lot like every 70s Brit punk band out there. I am sure it was interesting back in the day but now it is mildly interesting.

Non-art punk tällä kertaa.. Voi voi..

'80s Britt punk. I've never heard this before, but I've heard this all before.

The first 30 seconds of each song I was always like “huh this sounds cool.” Without fail, halfway through I was praying for every song to end. The second star is for the fun beginnings.

Eh. Punk is alright, but not really my thing.

not for me

Everything sounded the same

Mid punk rock

Gear: Meze 109 PRO Artwork: bah. potthässlich. Mix: flach-flach-flach Musik: The wonders don'care / We don't give a damn Wertung: 🧸🧸/5

Fairly standard punk but Gary Gilmores Eyes is a great song

I crossed the sea and was grateful to get to the other side...

All songs sound very similar. It’s an OK sound for 70s punk and one, maybe two songs. After that it just gets tiring. Can’t even pick a best song because they’re all about the same. (2.1*s)

This was probably really exciting in 1978, but gets a bit repetitive. They have a good sound but a lot of it is the same. I liked a few songs but I became a "bored teenager" part-way through the album. No song realyl stood out, pretty decent but mediocre.

Decent alt punk album. Never heard of The Adverts previously. Seems like they had a sound that would have worked moving forward but broke up after only 2 albums. Glad I gave it a listen but nothing special to write home about. 2.35 stars

It didn't hurt my ears so I'm giving a charitable 2 stars. Getting 2 English punk debuts from 1978 in a row, hopefully that's it!

Pretty forgettable punk album.

another british punk album ? *miranda priestly voice* groundbreaking.

Didn’t really enjoy any of this, not the biggest fan of this genre

Nothing burger. A punk album without much to distinguish it from all the others we've had. Can't say it's bad, won't say it's good. Moving on. Favorite tracks: Bombsite Boy. Album art: The one on Apple Music sucks, it's just a close-up shot of a disheveled incel. The album cover on here is really cool though, I love the brightly-colorful border. 2.5/5

I'm not familiar with this album or artist, but I tend to enjoy punk music from this period, so I had high hopes going into this. Unfortunately though, I didn't care much for this album. "One Chord Wonders" really hooked me in, with its pulsing drum beat and fast-paced guitars, but as the album went on, it felt repetitive and predictable. Musically, there wasn't a lot to latch on to, and the lyrics felt like pretty standard fare for punk music (teenage disillusionment, criticisms of religion, commentary on war and destruction, etc.) without adding any new ideas. This album wasn't bad per se, but it got to be kind of a chore to listen to the longer it went on. There might have been some bigger ideas that went into this album, but the execution just fell flat to me.

we dont give daaaaaaamnnnnnnn......"Crossing the Red Sea With the Adverts" is an utterly perfect example of peak UK punk.. eli siis paskaa, vitun paskaa dogshit dogwater catpiss catshit horseshit horsepissPiippolan vaarilla oli talo, hiiala hiiala hei!

British Punk from back in the day. Very true to the definition. Not even bad for what it is, but a couple of lads from '78 shouting their young, wild and free anti-establishment slogans at me puts me off about as much as my history teacher lecturing me on the Golden Bull of 1356 in the last lesson of the day. 2.5/5

And that's just about what I can do with this album. Bear it.

just not my scene

I wanted to like this and did with the first song, but then every song sounded the same. Ended up meh for me.

Feels like what the B-52s would be if they were angrier.

It's not my style, but respect!

I didn’t know anything about this band before listening. I didn’t read anything either. I wasn’t surprised to learn that “Looking through Gary Gilmore’s Eyes” was one of the most popular songs on there. That song, and it’s bass, rips. Album was palatable enough, but nothing really grabbed me.

2 - Another punk album that I'll forget about with time. First song sounded alright, and then the whole album kinda sounded like that... I have the same issues with it that I have with most punk albums.

I guess it's alright. Maybe punk isn't really my jam

Didn't know these guys. Pretty good!

It's good, but we've heard this album several times now

Another shite suggestion from this soon to be abandoned list.

You don’t have to listen to the entire album, every song sounds exactly the same.

Typically I enjoy hearing punk stuff l haven’t listened to before, but this, not so much. Now I know why I probably never listened to it. Not great.

Your typical 70s english punk band

It was ok. I wasn't really feeling it but might not have been in the right headspace.

Hard to get through

Never heard of this band, after one listen I can see why. They aren't terrible, but their immaturity and inexperience does show. I assume they are on here due to them being an early UK punk band, not sure how influential they actually were though. It's not like they were the first. Most of the lyrical references are very of the time, so it hasn't exactly aged well. I had to look up Gary Gilmore to see why he was so controversial, that is quite funny actually!

Like with most punk albums, one or two ok songs but the rest just drags.

Brit punk rock - classic The start is not very interesting Does not develop in a specifically spectacular way, seems quite standard brit rock to me... Amazing given that the album is from the 70's but not to my taste 2/5

All the tracks were too similar. Nothing groundbreaking here.

Man this one started pretty strong. As it went on, many of the songs started to sound similar, on account of chord progressions being reused throughout. Apparently these dudes were contemporaries of groups like Sex Pistols and The Clash, but obviously weren’t as popular. I do enjoy the vocals, more melodic than a lot of the other contemporary punk vocalists. Meh, I prefer American punk (real punk) anyway.

Raw, classic punkish rock. Sounds cool, but doesn't really grab me. Personally I feel like this could be omitted from the list and is another example of the heavy 1970's rock bias. Wish I had more to comment on but this felt just so straightforward and didn't do much.

Meh...... It sounds like this band had 2-3 songs and and just re-did them multiple times to stretch the album into 11 songs. Everything here pretty much sounded the same and not all that interesting.

Punk sem me empolgar.

Endnu et britisk punkrock, britpop band

I didn't really get on board with this. Id never heard of it and when it started I thought it may be some good punk/postpunk. But it turned out to be weirdly insipid and quite poppy.

Decent

Not my fav, tradeoff of tekk and energy/passion i think

Solid post punk I guess? Lots of energy but nothing really stands out sonically. Very good production for this kind of band.

Very early punk album. Not terrible. Some bits were catchy, but overall it just wasn't my kind of music. This is probably a great album if you're a punk fan, but it's just not resonating with me.

Didn’t hit

Bored Teenager. I’m a bored MAN listening to this. Nothing stands out. Very average. 2.5

Sounds like every other British punk band on this list. No more please. 2.5

Definitely not my cup of tea. It sounds just like any other punk band from that era. Nothing grabbed my attention and I was struggling to go through it all. Next please.

70’s bedroom rock. Meh.

Forgettable.

Sumt gott, sumt vont.

Ok punk album

Generic punk. I mean, I’m really feeling the common-ness of it all by now. Whatever. 2, because I’m bored of this.

p404. 1978. 2.5 stars Punk, well done of its kind, sharp lyrics but the tracks tend to blur into the same loud noise. Very much of its time. Unlikely to listen to it again.

Not too bad, punk isn't normally my genre but was a decent listen. Whole album kind of blended together.

It was okay

Struggling to have any sort of feeling for this one.

Better than most punk, but that's not really a glowing accolade. It is still punk, still repetitive basic stuff

2/5 Best: Newboys Worst: Bombsite Boy

fucking hell this is average at best. this was done a lot better by the undertones and the buzzcocks.

Drowning in the red sea

Meh, British angry boi

1978. A "the" band. uuuuuuugh. Yep, that's a pretty good enough description of it. And it's from the UK, of course. 2/5.

Meh. Boring.

Maybe I would enjoy this more as a bored teenager, but as a 30 year old it's all kinda samey

All the punk attributes, not awful but very little of interest. Lack of riffs albeit catchy choruses. High two.

Njää.. tyckte inte detta var så bra

Very much on brand with Sex Pistols. Very bland punk here, no urgency or really energy resonating from the band. It’s fine but there’s nothing here I haven’t heard before, uninspired generic punk record. 2.5 stars

Hmmmm toch 2 sterren denk ik.

pretty impressive But it still is punk 2

The Adverts demand a sneer but present no solid hooks for one; Chalk it up to cleanliness for now. Safety In Number's prediction of new wave would be interesting as it is on-the-nose if its instruments came with some more bite.

Every song on this album sounded the same - They just repeated the title of the song over and over.

Well this is an album that exists in the world of music. Very generic early punk sound which is fine, but nothing about this stood out to me, lots of one note singing.

This is some punk rock. I enjoyed it but also wish I could say most songs don't sound the same.
