Reviews (page 4 of 8)

Totally ok album, listened to it a lot when I was a kid. Didn't find it to be as good as I remember. Maybe I'm in a bad mood. I'll put it on again when I'm happier!

Side A was what I expected from the band knowing “Been Caught Stealin’”, which was fine, but the prog elements of side B were awesome.

Skemmtilegt 90s soundscape. Áhugavert.

A good introduction to a band I only knew for one song. I enjoyed it, on the whole. Probably only 2 songs I'd listen to in isolation. This feels more like an album you listen to in full, with the second half comprising mostly longer tracks. It's not from my favourite period in time, so I'll listen again but not regularly.

Very strong beginning and middle, but the end of the album is a little weak. Really like this album overall and the hits are hits I've heard and enjoyed for nearly 30 years. Really great album.

Great record, but it's hard to be impartial on this one since it's something I grew up with. I'm not the biggest Jane's Addition fan, but it's a classic. Tempted to give 5 stars but I'm not sure it's quite up there for me. Still a classic record.

This takes me back to MTV and Perry Farrell's screechy voice. I still love it.

this is a better album than i expected from a one hit wonder.

Ive been hearing Jane’s Addiction’s biggest hits for about as long as I can remember. They’re a band that I’m honestly surprised I didn’t get into when I was younger considering everything else I was into. Parry Farrell’s voice can be a bit much for me sometimes, but this is a really cool album. Dave Navarro is such a good guitar player that it’s a shame most people probably know him as a reality tv guy these days.

Great 90s memories!

Il migliore dei JA

This one I get: a radically new sound in rock, clearly an important album. Also, I really like it.

Jane's Addiction is an interesting band, if a little uninspiring. I enjoyed listening to this album, though I would not probably have put it on this list. It does have a very distinctive sound. I would have pegged this album coming out in the mid 90s rather than in 1990 based on the style, so it's certainly a bit ahead of its time 4/5

Majorly surprised. Dismissed Jane's Addiction when I was young purely coz I loved electronic music too much. The second half of this album is unreal. Farrell's voice still shits me a bit but this album is amazing.

My faavorites from the album are Stop, been Caught Stealing, and Of Course. I don't love the singers voice, but the songs are quite groovy, and I especially like the klezmer-style violin in Of Course.

I liked this one! It would've been cool if it was in Spanish though. My favorites were No One's Leaving and Been Caught Stealing. I was excited to hear slap bass and overall it was very groovy

Me encanta

First, I love the Spanish right off the bat in "Stop". This song has a great drive and guitar part and the guitar solo is rockin'. I have to say I enjoyed the sound in most of these songs. The guitars DRIVE and I dig it. Makes me want to jam out on Rock Band or Guitar Hero. The beginning of "Ain't No Right" was a little odd for me but the rest of it was good, the drums were great in this one. "Been Caught Stealing" was a bop. "Three Days" is a very long song at almost 11 minutes but is worth a listen. The drums really drive the song and it has a lot of great guitar parts to it as well. Overall, I enjoyed listening to this album. Kept me toe tappin' and head bobbin' throughout the whole thing.

Very distinctive. Captures a great moment in time.

Pretty good.

Fades a bit in the second half

Full of LA Rock Nostalgia, and the back half slaps

Ok - these dudes grew on me a ton from the first album

“Stop” is my favorite thing to come out of the 1990. Okay other than my brother (my mom made me say that). “No One’s Leaving” On my first listen this was my favorite song of the three songs sandwiched between Stop and Been Caught Stealing. Now I’d place it at the bottom. Decent song. Great guitar solo. “Ain’t No Right” I did not like that intro. Why does that exist? I agree with the politics though.I like the actual song too. “Obvious” I don’t know what to make of it. It takes a while for the song to find it’s pacing and I like it once it does. I definitely appreciated it more on my second listen through the album. I can hear the dogs barking just by reading “Been Caught Stealing”. No more words are necessary. “Three Days is a banger. A 10+ minute absolute banger. The pacing is just perfect. Sounds fun to drum to too. “Then She Did” has a completely different energy than Three Days but it doesn’t make it any less powerful than its predecessor. “Of Course” is just not for me. I’m not a big psychedelic guy so take that with a grain of salt. “Classic Girl” I love the lyrics to this one.

This is one of those rare albums for me where I thought the second half was significantly better than the first. I thought it was a pretty solid album musically even if I didn’t care for all of the vocals or lyrics. Good listen

Pretty interesting grunge rock. Stop is the only song I knew, but I didn’t expect ballads later. Instrumentation was phenomenal, but catchiness could be better. 7.5/10

Oh the memories

Big RHCP vibes to start with. Absolute shredders especially on Obvious. Can hear where Slint got some style too I think. Been Caught Stealing is sick

Cover to cover, this album works for me. I've listened to it so many times since I was a wee lad. I love that it rocks hard and still also has slow, melancholy parts.

Amazing album great 90s Jams getting out if the 80s

An album with distinctly different vibes from the first to second half. Really interesting music, lyrics, and style in general. I haven't listened to a ton of Jane's Addiction, but I like this album pretty well and am feeling generous: 4 stars.

Love the band, knew them from been caught stealing.

I thought this was a solid record. I don’t think I’ma big fan of the singer but the instrumentation was top notch.

Embolante salvo la canción que sale en el GTA. Ni lo terminé.

I'm a midlevel fan of Jane's but I don't think they deserve two albums in the Top 1001, "Nothing Shocking" is their best and deserves a spot. It broke ground, hit hard during that era and a few of those songs are timeless. "Ritual..." just carried that torch further without building onto it. I love "Stop", and "Been Caught Stealing" is a Top 200 song (amazing video), but that's really the extent of it. Fans's love all 10+ minutes of "Three Days" and "Classic Girl" but neither were hits or really move the needle. They're better at 4 minute songs than they are at 8-10 minute songs, just a fact. "Then She Did..." is a throwaway slog and "Of Course" is just confusing. Not Top 1001 to me. 3 stars for 2 great songs.

I couldn't think of anything to say

Compared to the very marginal albums from this list that I've been slogging through over the last week, this was a magnum opus. I know, faint praise. So sue me, I'm only gonna be here for 4 more reviews and then I'm out.

Stop!, Been Caught Stealing, and Three Days are the highlights of this record. The rest feels haphazardly thrown together to me. 3/5.

Some good tracks but vocals get a bit annoying at times.

didnt pay much attention to it, but it was okey ig

Man, this is tough, because I liked the music, but I feel unsettled about celebrating something that treats a teenager's heroin overdose as some kind of "muse" experience. Then again, I've rated other albums from problematic artists honestly. And, as one astute reviewer mentions, there are other collaborators on this album aside from Perry Farrell. Still, I'm teetering between a 3.5 and a 4, and I think this made me sad enough to keep it at a 3.5 - or, since this site doesn't do half-stars, a 3.

I like the guitar on a lot of these tracks. I do not like pop punk style vocals. I always thought that was the weakest element of this band. They also made the unfortunate choice to put all of the high energy tracks at the beginning of the album and the long, slow tracks at the end. I know this band’s influence far exceeds the number of years they were active, but it’s just not something I would call a must-listen.

Ferrall’s vocals annoy me. I was really enjoying the opening to Of Course until he came in with his whiny DAAAA LAAA LAALAAA and ruined the ambiance the music had built up until that point. Not a bad album, just shrill nasally vocals covered in reverb.

Jane's Addiction just did whatever the fuck they want, and it worked well enough

I like Jane's Addiction - Perry Farrell is an incredible frontman and they kind of soundtracked some of the early 90s for me. This isn't my favourite of their records and I'm not convinced it belongs on the list, but it was good to listen again. Much as I love them, I think they're partly responsible for that godawful 'nu-metal' sound that followed in their wake. This is unforgivable so I am docking one star. Not much of a punishment for such a crime, but I don't wield any real power, sadly.

I very much disliked some of this at first. Then a few songs came along that I quite liked. I think Classic Girl was my favorite.

Très désagréable et bruyant au début, plus plaisant ensuite (Then She Did... and co)

Although I don't hate this album, I don't love it. It's got some real killers on it, but some real trash as well. Perry's voice is annoying as always, but the rest of the band picks up the slack, as usual.

This was a good album, but not much more than that. Solid 3

This album takes me back to high school. Some of the songs went on for way too long. The music was good but Perry Ferrell’s vocals were trying at times. Three stars for the nostalgia.

It’s cool, I guess. The longest song here is probably the one I’ll be coming back to the most.

There’s a lot to respect about Jane's Addiction and especially the way they landed right in that early-’90s alternative/grunge-adjacent moment where everything felt like it was shifting at once. The singles from Ritual de lo Habitual—especially “Been Caught Stealing” and “Stop!”—fit that era perfectly. They’ve got that loose, slightly chaotic energy that sits comfortably alongside what was coming out of Seattle at the time, even if the band was coming from a different scene entirely. But beyond those peaks, the record doesn’t really hold up in the same way. A big part of that comes down to Perry Farrell’s vocal style. It’s theatrical, twitchy, and constantly on edge in a way that can feel more distracting than expressive if you’re not already bought into it. Instead of pulling you deeper into the songs, it often pulls you out of them. The album itself leans heavily into sprawling, art-rock ambition, but most of it doesn’t land with much emotional weight if you’re not already aligned with the band’s aesthetic. What’s left is a record that feels uneven—carried by two standout tracks and a larger identity that doesn’t fully connect unless you’re already invested in the style.

For 90s alt rock it is good but...I dunno? There is something missing. I am not crazy on Perry's vocals so that might be why. It is by no means bad but i think just this style of alt rock kinda lands flat for me. Still a solid 3.

Setting the stage of the 90s funk metal glam sessions.

The Good: We are warned that this is all usual! The Bad: What if we don’t like usual? The Ugly: Still not knowing what Jane’s addiction is, after all these decades… I recall when “been caught stealing” hit MTV… Don’t hold me to it, but I think that this was also when “the real world” was being launched. We were all enjoying our Gen-X status! The tune was catchy, to say the least… I can also recall thinking that Perry F was a bit of a dickhead… Then came Porno for Pyros… and really, that was the end of that one… I am certain that there he is not the only one, but how many artist can say that they were a 2-time One-Hit-Wonder? He did give us Lollapalooza, which, if memory severs me, was a cluster fuck of festival that managed to gather people of all sorts and creeds and backgrounds together. Good for him. Anyway, I listened to this album, trying to get back into my ‘90s mode… and all I wanted to do was listen to other artists from that era who, in my opinion, were more talented yet achieved lesser fame… 3*

Interesująca ciekawostka

Joj ne znam, na tren mi je zanimljivo jer sam pank dijete, a ima nekih baš groovy dijelova isto, ali mi je s druge strane opet nekako underwhelming i taj vokal mi ne sjeda nikako. 3/5, 5/10

This was interesting, I at first thought I was not going to enjoy this album at all, but certain tracks did catch my attention. I will not be adding this album to any playlist, but it was better than first impressions.

This album is in many ways weird. The very first track is exceptionally well-produced and had me feel that the album would be full of bangers. Then there were some tracks that were quite worse. "Three Days", given its duration, was promising. Now, as you are listening to it, you have an ongoing feeling that it's a slow burner that would lead to some epic chorus or a solo, as is habitually done in popular musuic including rock. It it does not really happen, only to a ceratin degree. Still, the track is very cool in terms of a complex, unpredictable composition that manages to stand out and, IMHO, is quite hard to be resembled. This is why this song along with the opening track are my picks for this record. The later tracks were mostly a disappointment. The group's somewhat incoherent style reminded me of the Cure at times. They keep on using those repetitive patterns which at times are transformed into something more lively, but generally speaking, the ending is way worse than it could have been. Which is why this album, while containing some outstanding material, failed to use its stylistic diversity to its own benefit. Could have been a five. Three stars here.

Trochę pozbawione tożsamości i pazura. Nie wzbudził żadnych emocji. Chyba że nuda to emocja, wtedy wzbudził ich mnóstwo. 5/10

While this is really good in the grand scheme of things, I actually don't think this fully captures the magic of Nothing's Shocking. Ritual De Lo Habitual expands the band's sound and has several great songs, but loses the lightning in a bottle aspect. Shocking had an acerbic quality that added some real edge to even it's most melodic moments. And some of that edge *is* still here, but Jane's Addiction definitely sounds less at war with itself; which is ironic because they broke up like a matter of months after this came out. Side A is largely the distinct alt rock sound that the band is known for, but again, a little less dark. Stop! and Get Caught Stealing are heavy, but at the same time, they do make sense as hits, and aren't afraid to have fun. And Side B is pretty much all epic rockers. Three Days and Then She Did... are some of my favorite songs here, and *absolutely* capture the tension and unease of their earlier material. But I also think that Of Course and Classic Girl are among the weaker songs here. Ritual De Lo Habitual ends up as a really great alt-rock album, but it's just a little less even than Nothing's Shocking, and doesn't quite harness Jane's Addiction's fire as effectively.

It's alright

Started off slow, but "Three Days" redeemed it. A 10+ min piece that goes slow to fast to different genres. Favorite track: Three Days other picks: Been Caught Stealing, obvious

Ritual de lo Habitual by Jane's Addiction is a really great indie album and one I found very easy to listen to from start to finish. The album has a cool, laid-back energy to it while still sounding creative and different throughout. The guitar playing is excellent and really drives the album forward, while the lyrics are clever, interesting and full of personality. There’s a confidence to the sound that makes the whole album feel effortless. Even when the tracks stretch out a little, it never feels boring or overindulgent. What I liked most is how natural the album feels. Nothing sounds forced and the band clearly know exactly what type of sound they want. It’s alternative rock with groove, attitude and strong songwriting, which makes it a very enjoyable listen overall. Favourite tracks: “Been Caught Stealing” and “Of Course” Least favourite tracks: Everything here is good and worth listening to Album artwork: Cool album cover

ta genail

боялась что более неприятные ребята но ничего. не моё но хотя бы не отвратительно)

I’m indifferent to this genre. I wouldn’t choose to listen to it. Some groups capture my interest. Some groups quickly lose my interest. This sits firmly in the middle. The music was good, but it never really went anywhere. As a result it’s, as the kids say, ‘mid’.

It's good but so over-appreciated.

Thought I would not like it, liked it a bit. But that's about it.

Barking dogs has got to be one of my least favorite samples included in music. Fucking stupid. When I think of Jane's addiction, I think of 3edgy5me Gen X'ers that were throughly entertained that radio music was so raunchy. This jangly, shrieking tone of this album is just not my jam. I didn't hate this, I'm just surprised to see it here. The 90s had so many alt rock acts that I think are much, much more deserving to be on this list. Like Scumdogs of the Universe, by GWAR.

It is indeed like slapping yourself in the face. I know this album is beloved but I find it hard to take

Woof woof woof! I loved 'Been Caught Stealing' when it first came out, jumping about to it in nightclubs. I also have vague hazy memories of seeing them live in 1990, but for some reason I never bought this album, and it never became a firm favourite. In consequence it had been long forgotten about, but the good thing about this 1001 ptoject is it brings albums like this out of the dusty cupboard and it has already had two plays! It has great energy throughout, love the guitar sound too. A forgotten classic.

Sounds like a standard 90s rock album to me. The standout track is 'Of Course'

when i heard the intro of the first song I thought it would he horrible, but im glad i proceeded with rest of the album. It was quite nice and i added a fww songs to my playlists.

It's not bad, but not something I want to listen to all that often. JA certainly has a very unique and easily distinguishable sound. Nobody else sounds like them. I wish I were able to give this album more time to listen, but I must move on.

My favorite was "of course" because they used Oriental instruments, but not really my thing this album

A few hit songs I recognized. 90's rock type music and liked about half the song

I prefer this album over what I had yesterday (Guitar Town). "Ritual de lo Habitual" has a lot to like about it, while some bits I didn't like. The shorter songs tend to be better and have more replay value. The great track, "Three Days", seems to be an exception to this, being 10 minutes long. Even with the better songs, I was left a bit disappointed by this album. 3 stars for "Ritual de lo Habitual".

I knew precisely one Jane's Addiction Song going into this (Been Caught Stealing because they played the video a lot on MTV when I was a kid). This was something that grew on me a lot over the course of the record. I wasn't that fussed about the first half but then I found I was increasingly enjoying it. I really liked Three Days, Then She Did, Of Course and Classic Girl. The instrumentation was far more varied and experimental than I thought it would be. Ultimately I suspect liking Jane's Addiction comes down to whether you like rock music and whether you can stomach Perry Farrell's rather screeching voice. As I very much like the former and am ok with the latter, this was a pretty good time for me. 3/5

First half was pretty fun, second half drained the soul out of me

I usually don't like metal, but this was surprisingly nice to listen.

Hm, det var fint, men vækkede ikke noget i mig.

Just not a fan of his voice

I’ll tell you who Jane’s Addiction was, Len bloody houmous! 3.2 3/9 Ain’t No Right

This is the band's second album in this project. It's okay, but it doesn't really blow me away. For some reason, I remembered the band's music differently. I don't need to listen to this album again. 3/5

I've never been a big fan of Jane's Addiction even in their prime. This album isn't bad by any means. It's a fairly enjoyable listen if you can largely ignore the vocal stylings.

Good album. Not exactly my kind of music, but I enjoyed more now than I did back in the day.

Not really my type of music, but still okay to listen to. A few of the songs made me feel quite angsty!

i enjoyed the second half a lot more than the first

I like the music well enough. “Been Caught Stealing” is the standout track, of course, and it’s held up well over the years, but there are some other good songs. Kinda like “Of Course” for some reason — it sounds a bit like an alt-rock band covering a track off the FIDDLER ON THE ROOF soundtrack — but the lyrics about getting slapped in the face grew tiresome by the end. I lke their songs one at a time, but an entire album of Perry Farrell’s voice singing and screaming is a bit much to take. 2.5 stars

Hmmmm. Pretty solid but I feel like it could be better with a different singer? But maybe that's what makes them unique? I did decide to pop on some Entourage after listening.

At it’s best it’s a lot of fun, but unfortunately it’s best only lasts a few songs

I've been critical of albums that have 10 songs and it's hard to tell where one song stops and the next starts. This album could never be accused of that fault. Loud raucous, but with some softer moments. I'm sure they would have been a blast to see live.

It’s okay - although the musicians are good, the singing gets too stressful

Good album.

Been Caught Stealing was really good. The second half of the album had a much different feel than the first. Didn’t love his voice but the music helped carry

Previously rated: #1,083 - Nothing’s Shocking (3/5) *********************************** Album #1,088 Been Caught Stealing is by far the best track on either album, and it isn’t really representative of the rest of this album. In fact, every track after it is long, boring, or both. Sometimes the singer sounds like Stephen Pearcy of Ratt. I’d rather listen to Out of the Cellar any day than this.

Been Caught Stealing

The second half was pretty interesting. It turns a little more prog or folky, with a lot of different instrumentation, and experimentation. I was surprised and I liked it. I wasn't quite as engrossed to start, lots of guitar solos but tonally just didn't work for me, kind of predictable. Been Caught Stealing will always be a jam.

Best Track - "Been Caught Stealing"

261/1001 Jane's Addiction - Ritual de lo Habitual Heard before? ❎ Revisit? ❓ I have heard one single from Jane's Addiction prior to this and didn't get on with Perry Ferrel's vocals, but enjoyed the music around it. On this listen, everything grew on me, but maybe not enough to seek more of it out.

Perfectly alright 90s alternative.one a few of the songs and moderately enjoyed it

Good album but probably won’t be coming back to it anytime soon.

Better than expected, especially after the first two tracks which were just noisy. But then it gets interesting - syncopated rhythms, the almost prog Three Days, and the classicBeen Caught Stealing redeems it. I doubt I’ll go back to it, but it gives me a newfound respect of the godfathers of grunge.

неплохо, но ничего не добавил.

first listen not really my vibe

I liked the back half of this much better than the front half. I think it could grow on me if I give it the chance. Will revisit

There are a few fun songs on here. But Ferrell’s voice becomes a little taxing over the length of the album. 3/5 Might listen again

Hmmm. Another one of those albums I wish I liked, or I feel like I should like but it's just kinda boring. I remember loving been caught stealing as a little kid but I mean who could dislike that one. Dave Navarro was hot, Perry Ferrell is crazy, the bass lines sound like Seinfeld, it's fine to play at a bbq with other 40/50 something's the end

Good energy but I think that worked against them sometimes. Just really busy at times.

Now we're talkin'. Unique and immediately recognizable--that voice, that metal guitar appearing in an alternative rock repertoire. And of course, the dogs barking at the beginning of "Been Caught Stealing" is iconic. I did not remember that three of the last four songs were super long--7-10 minutes each. Great guitar lines in "Three Days" but the three do drag on a bit. Do I penalize this album a star because not every song is memorable? Yeah, probably. I still really like it though.

There's a lot going on with this album. Musically I think they really had some amazing soundscapes going on like on tracks Obvious, Been Caught Stealing, and Of Course, however I find the vocals to be a mixed bag. I love weird vocals, and bad vocals, but Perrys is neither bad nor weird, it's just kinda grating overtime. I think the some Then She Did may be his best vocal delivery cause it's the least vocally straining, the range seems to fit more then some of the other songs. Unfortunately some of the songs people rave about the most like Three Days, Stop!, and Classic Girl kinda just felt alright. And I can't get over that especially with Three Days, when people were claiming this song is the best rock song ever or of the 2000s, and like, I'm sorry, but I just do not get it. The subject matter of the song is very touching and I have nothing against the meaning nor what it's about, but the overall sound of that song and some of the others just built up so much tension just for it to slowly drain away without much payoff. I think this album will definetly change the more I listen to it, positively or negatively, but either way my take away as of right now is that its a cool album that doesn't really speak that much to me.

I wouldn't be caught stealing this album.

I'm not a fan of this band, but there was a few nice and creative songs on this one and nothing bad overall. A 3 stars rating will do it, I guess.

It was fine. Nothing groundbreaking to me

Mixed bag. Some hits and some that were a little out there and funky.

6/10 Not a massive fan of your man's voice, but the music is good enough. At its best when they don't hit it too hard and let the songs breathe a bit.

6/10 – Decent

Been a long time. Not something I grew up with, but can definitely appreciate.

Always like Janes Addiction and was surprised to see them on this list. But I dont think I've ever heard this album in full before today. Its fine. While it is fun and enjoyable at times some of the longer songs have the tendency to drag. 3/5

eu achei que seria bem mais paioso. não to falando que eh bom nao, eh mediano no máximo. uma pegada de hard rock meia boca que não me agrada muito. MAS EI, pelo menos não é red hot!!!

This is eclectic. There's some great stuff in here but sometimes it's a little much. Not always my thing. And sometimes the vocal doubling is too dissimilar that it's distracting and makes for not an enjoyable listen. The album also doesn't just jump out and grab me.

Wel oke

Was decent. Sounded to be like garbage water and also unicorns. Depending on the song. Some were shit others halfway to decent. Objectively not horrible. Subjectively I'm so glad it's over with

This was a tough review because I absolutely dislike the band. But I'm going to pretend that I don't and try to be honest. Musically is very interesting. Very energetic, psychedelic and funky, changing from dub to alternative rock seamlessly. Best tune is Three Days. Great intensity and change ups. However, Perry Farrell's tone and singing are very samey making listening to the album very tiring. But hey, the songs are constructed in a very creative way.

Decent, couple of very strong songs. Just scraping in for a 3.

I’ve never liked Jane’s Addiction, but I didn’t mind listening to a full album. Been Caught Stealing is awful and I hate it. The album tracks were fine. “Pets” would be the only Perry Farrell track I’d voluntarily listen to ever again (not a Porno For Pyros fan either). Giving this a better than expected 3/5

Ok, de langere nummers op dit album; Three Days, Then She Did, halen me iets meer over. Ik ben geen fan, maar dit is best een prima rock/metal/punk achtig album. Album had geen seconde langer moeten duren alleen, pfoe dit was me toch best wel een zit. Dit album voelde soms toch als de langste 50 minuten die ik gehad heb. FAVO: Aint no right, Been caught stealing, Three days

This is very good. Can hear the influence on tge Red Hot Chili Peppers, but the quality here is mire consistent. At the same time, it’s less fun than the Chili Peppers. High 3, low 4. A 3 for now — I should listen again.

Some nice soundscapes, enjoyed some creative choices more than others.

I'd heard a couple of tracks but never a full album. Interesting to hear what a big influence this must have been on Vent 414, a band I am familiar with.

I can’t put less than 3 stars for this album even tho I know I won’t listen to it again. I mean now that I’ve discovered the Art of Björk, I understand why she inspired many artists like Mistiki (A lot I think) and Rosalia on her last album but also Aurora, I totally see all of them in this album. Just for all of the great artists she has created with her music I have to put at least 3 stars, even if I think you need to be high to explore the full potential.

Such a distinct 90s rock sound. I remember seeing a Jane's Addiction video when I was a kid in the 90s and thought it was so odd and even disturbing, though I liked how different it was compared to other 90s rock acts. The music is noisy, sounding almost disjointed at times, but it all comes together in harmony in the end. This was a good listen and I understand why it's on this list, though it's another one that I'm not sure I'd revisit intentionally.

Its ok. Has some of their hits

Regular iTunes users will know about its various mysteries. Albums with the wrong artwork. Albums that appear but can’t be found and won’t play. Albums that strangely lose odd tracks at random and sometimes, music that disappears completely. Today I’ve cleared up a longstanding iTunes mystery. The curious case of Ritual de lo Habitual. This album has appeared on my iPod for the last 20 years as just five tracks. Stop!, No-one’s Leaving, Ain’t No Right, Obvious and Been Caught Stealing. Listening to the whole thing today has jogged my memory. I bought the album on the strength of Been Caught Stealing, ripped it, found the second half boring and got rid of the CD. These days I have a bit more patience for moody, long-form experimental, shoegaze-adjacent rock. So I quite enjoyed hearing the second half for the first time in a couple of decades, but I also completely understand the actions of my teenage self.

Been caught stealing is great, otherwise meh

Decent. Listened before but still didn’t get where it needed to

I have heard of this band before but I do not believe I have listened to their music so I am excited to get into it. I like the sound of track 1, it just feels like it is missing something though and I am not quite sure what. I like the transition that happens around the 2-minute mark, I might retract my previous statement about it missing something; I feel like this is what it needed. It is kind of hard to pinpoint an initial genre. I feel like "rock" is so vague. I think I like track 2 less than track 1. It definitely has more of a punk vibe to it. The guitar solo in track 3 is amazing, I think I am just very iffy about punk rock as a whole. I like track 4 a lot. It is probably my favorite on the album so far. Track 5 is also really good. It is the most listened to song on the album and I can see why. My only notes for track 6 is that it was way too long. Honestly, it is the same for track 6 and I haven't gotten to 7 yet but I am sure it will be the same as well. I think overall, this album started pretty well, and got increasingly boring. I am thinking three stars.

I have a feeling 3/5 might be a bit harsh if I gave it another couple of listens. I think part of my issue is I didn't know what Janes' Addiction's sound was like before listening...and I'm not really sure I know now.

It was okay. I don't have more to say about it.

3/5 Eh, it was alright. I wanted to like this more, but nothing stood out to me at all.

top 3 - Of Course, Been Caught Stealing, Three Days. I would actually rate this a 3.5/5 but it's not possible. It was alright, was underwhelmed since I expected it to be more aggressive. Chance of coming back for another listen.

fajna, troche na jedno kopyto, fajna piosenka obvious

I've really try to like this album over the years but the only track I'll relisten to is been caught stealing. Perrys voice is too whiny for my ears mostly. Reminds me of smoking with my boyfriend and him planning his next five finger discount.

kinda fun, aber nicht ultra fan

Been Caught Stealing is one of the earliest songs that I remember hearing as a kid. The dogs barking stood out to me as odd at the time, and honestly still do. Stop! is a hell of a fun opener. Three Days is a jam. Otherwise, this was a fine enough album. I find Farrell's voice a little taxing, but it is certainly unique and the instrumentals were solid. I'd say high 3 for me.

Been Caught Stealing is so memorable. There's something about the singers voice where it's so nasally, but so perfect at the same time. Maybe because I have heard some JA songs before? Probably would hate it more if this was a first time listen. Something about the drums and the bass really shine throughout this whole album. high 3 here

Perry's vocal always distracts from this band.

Mmm, what can I say? It was alright? I suppose? Stand-outs - Stop! - Been Caught Stealing

I found the songs on this album hit-or-miss, but there were definitely at least four hits for me. Gotta respect the boldness of Jane's Addiction. Somehow I didn't mind the very long songs, and mostly preferred them to the shorter ones.

Another band I never got into. Doesn't seem so bad now. Sill though, not great. Younger me was right again. 3 Heard before? Some Owned: Yes: 41/165 (25%) Will I get? No

A messy yet energetic album that apparently might be about a throuple?! (Not confirmed). I would rate this albums 7/10. I can’t say definitely see why it’s on this list. It’s just not my genre, but I can appreciate the vibe of it and kept me going throughout my walk.

I had a short Jane's Addiction fandom somewhere in my 20's . I had this album and their debit and thought Yeah, I like Jane's Addiction. Well, I must have listened to the debut more than this one because the back half here seems all brand new to me. Or at least not very familiar. Or maybe they just aren't that good?

Farrell’s distinctive caterwaul and Navarro’s guitar gave Jane’s Addiction a unique sound. Too bad it couldn’t be kept together. Good second effort.

The second half of this album is, if anything, a decent attempt at prog rock with some sounds very reminiscent of Sunny Day Real Estate and guitar fingering like the Smiths. The first half… is not that.

okay that bassline in No One's Leaving fucking kills, to start with, and Been Caught Stealing is a classic, and probably the only JA song I'm really familiar with. Unfortunately the rest of the album doesnt quite reach that high. The yell-singing grates on me after a while. Lots of frenetic energy throughout though.

I liked the music better than I thought I would. The lyrics, with the exception of one or two songs are weak, like a song glorifying shoplifting. No thanks.

Forgettable

I should like this more than I do, it's in my musical sweet spot but it just doesn't do it for me for some reason

wasnt too crazy about this, until i listened at the gym an enjoyed the first half! ig listening to metal in casual settings is not the vibe. the second half featured longer, slower songs that i couldnt really get into at the gym, but would be open to relistening.

Wish there was more Spanish and female singers like in the first song. Reminds me of Nirvana

OK, but forgettable. I've heard Jane's Addiction before and never really cared. Still don't.

pretty decent

Better than I thought. Great music, even the singer's voice suits the songs. The lyrics, well, those don't connect with me and they seem made to impress, idk. The longer songs were the better ones, fewer lyrics and more vibes. I would listen to an instrumental album by the players.

liked it, not my fav but some great sounds

Like the first half of this was nostalgic fun then I was over it.

On the whole, this was enjoyable and a great change of pace from the other recent albums. The final two tracks lost me a bit, particularly 'of course' with the repetition of being made to slap yourself in the face by an older brother? Appreciated the guitar riffs most and the strained voice a little less.

It's okay - I've already got a few songs on my favorites list.

This is so 90s, and not necessarily in a bad way. Rather Zeppeliny extended guitar layers of rock, psychedelia, some pop hooks, and grandiose ambition. Feels dated, then not. And I will always love "Classic Girl."

I liked this - the songs were interesting, and I could see myself having been really into this had I listened to it in my younger years. That said, it wasn’t interesting enough to make me want to deep dive on their other stuff or listen again but it was pleasant nonetheless. Solid 3.5 stars.

Hated the first couple songs and couldn't wait for the album to be over. But then the last four songs got me and I listened to the album again for another perspective. Can't say I loved it but it wasn't bad

It was okay.

Havent listened to this is a very long time. Has it aged well? Track one and the infectious energy i remember is there. Nothing ground breaking here but there is a chaotic frenetic feel to this album, where it feels like it might fall apart at any moment but it holds together somehow. The beat is key, the guitar chords are used like licks, vocals unique but very much Chilli Pepper like (although i’d wager perry farell can sing better than Keidis). I like the drummer most on this and in this band probably, though he is sometimes a bit too busy for my liking. Good sound on this recording though. They are a bit loose with their timing. Could be deliberate. Would be interested to hear them live. Feels like the bass player speeds up and rushes playing anything more than a half note. There’s a bit of joy division/new order about his playing. Wonder if he liked Peter Hook. Dave Navarro i dont find a mind blowing guitarist but i think he’s a very good/solid player. He’s not one i remember for his rip roaring solos but he can bust it out. I think he mixed rock styles really well (heavy, psychadelic, rock pop) which in my book makes him a very good rock guitarist (as opposed to very good guitarist). There have been many rock crossover bands and songs - rock/rap, rock/jazz, etc. janes additction do a rock/alternative crossover really well. But the album dies a bit in the closing tracks where i feel they get away from what they do really well. They get away from the high energy hard rock pop and i dont feel they are as good. The slower work reveals their likitations, maybe the lack of togetherness of the band a bit more.

def an intriguing album that i played back a few times with many highs ... i think when i start running this will have a chance to get a lot more plays but it was a little hard to find the right timing for it

Very dark album, a few bangers but hard to relax to

It’s nothing shocking but not bad at all! 🥁 (3.5)

Perry Farrell's voice kind of wore me down over the course of the record. When it kicked off I was loving it but somewhere are Been Caught Stealin' I was ready for it to be over. It's a good album but not one I'll revisit

This was fine, but didn’t really grab me one way or the other. The violin in Of Course was my album highlight.

I liked bits of this, but other bits drifted. I've listened to another Jane's Addiction album which seemed a bit more focused.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this. Partly, that's because I thought it was going to be the most appalling twaddle, but also because it was a nice mix of hard rock, metal and some more thoughtful moments. All in all, I don't know that it's my genre or my thing, but I always appreciate when an artist is trying something beyond the confines of a reductive genre. Good stuff. It also got better as it went along in the main, and that's always nice.

Have you heard Been Caught Stealing? That's the best song on here & they all sound about like that to varying degrees of interesting. They are like a less quirky Primus or less trippy Flaming Lips. Every single one of his peers of this Era are better than Perry Ferrell. Everything about this is overrated from Perry Ferrell's importance to Lollapalooza to Dave Navarro's pretty boy guitar god. It's good at times, just not as good as everyone makes em out to be. Mediocrity at its finest. 3

I did like this Jane's Addiction album, and it has their signature sound that they were experts at honing in on, but I didn't find this as remarkable as their previous album (also on this project), "Nothing's Shocking". I definitely noticed the shift in tone between album halves, which led me to read more about why the album's sound was split in such a way. After reading that the second half was an "in memoriam", the sound made a lot more sense, and I actually found it quite interesting how Jane's Addiction was able to preserve their typical sound while also still being a little less alt rock-y and a little more artsy.

This album was like reaching into the catacombs of Santa’s music bag and pulling out a time capsule of when rock, alternative, psychedelic, indie, and metal all merged into one genre, if ever. I can’t say that I adored it. I can say I appreciated it.

there are spiders in my eyes

Decent album, Janes addiction has never been one of my favorite bands but they are a decent have a few good hits, this album had one or two of them but was just kind of ok

Most songs sound similar but there are a couple of songs that are decent. “Obvious” is a good song. From 1-5 I’d give it a 3. Not really my type of music and would never download it except maybe “Obvious “.

This was a bit of a slog, tbh. I didn’t find much to engage with. The first side is better than the second, but it is pretty inconsistent throughout. The last two tracks are a real struggle.

When it’s good it’s very good but lacks consistency and overdoes it at times.

Never been really big on Perry Farrell's voice. Three Days has a great jam. I like the Eastern vibes in Of Course Not bad. Not blown away by it. First full listen of a J A album and this was definitely Jane's Addiction.

A good listen with a brilliant song in there too (Been caught stealing).

Another new one to me. Have heard of them but never really heard them. Enjoyable rock/metal.

I am all Jane addiction-ed out

Pretty cool, interesting record, been's caught stealing is on this one of course, which is a stone-cold classic. A pleasant experience. I am not sure why, but it is lacking strongly in something. Probably dead in the middle with 3 stars, perhaps one to REVISIT? Im drunk

Some of these songs could've been a lot shorter. They just went on and on

Thought I would hate this but had neutral feelings!

I had Nothing’s Shocking a month or so ago, and really enjoyed it. I liked this, too, but not as much - there’s no Jane Says here, but Three Days and Then She Did … are both really strong. Asa a whole though I just didn’t find it as engaging. Still an enjoyable album, though.

Cover 7 Although I liked their radio hits, none of them made me want to check them out beyond that, so this album is sorta new to me. I suppose the lead singers voice can also be grating to some people. I don't mind it. Honestly, I don't think I missed out on anything. This album was ok. I wouldn't mind listening to it again but it won't be on heavy rotation.

Never really vibed with Perry Farrell or Jane's Addiction, I can appreciate the change they were ushering in with this and the album before, and the whole Lollapalooza thing, but then he did Porno For Pyros and it was meh, and then Jane's Addiction would do a series of reunions that ended in wild and spectacular fashion last year. I've only ever like a handful of songs by them, and the rest I can really take or leave, this has "Been Caught Stealing" which is a classic, but the rest is pretty forgettable.

Pretty fun, but juuuust not quite there enough for a higher rating.

This is realllly close to a 4 - it's delightfully eclectic and tightly songwritten, I just tuned out a bit too much during it to really bump it all the way up there.

Some solid rock, though no songs really jumped out at me as being amazing

An extremely solid rock album that I enjoyed with some cool extra flair, but it's not enough to enter the regular rotation.

From heavy rockets that border on metal to lighter fare that edges up to pop, this is surprisingly consistently enjoyable

Day 51 Only knew the one song. 6/10 Highlights Stop No one’s leaving Been caught stealing

I enjoyed this. Now that I’ve heard it, I understand why the Chili Peppers brought Navarro on for a bit

I listened to JA a lot in the early 90s. This was my second favorite album by them. Pure alternative/rock music. Perry was made for MTV - such a flashy/odd showman.

A few excellent songs here, vocals are distinctive.

Strong 3

It’s fine ig

good, high 3

The guitars and mixing are super interesting, but I just cannot get into Perry as a lead singer. 2.5/5

This record is easy to respect, but harder for me to love. I get the appeal: it’s ambitious, eclectic, and has plenty of variety across funk grooves, hard rock riffs, and psychedelic sprawl. But Perry Farrell’s voice wears on me after a while, and the whole thing tips into self-indulgence at times. There are flashes of brilliance, but as a full listen, it didn’t quite land. A solid 3 stars—worth hearing to understand its place in the era, but not one I’ll be reaching for often.

It's a solid album with a couple good hits, but most of it doesn't have quite the same punch of other bands of that era.

Rating: 5.5/10 Great instrumentation but I cannot stand the vocals with this band. They take more risks here than their debut which I respect a lot.

Fun noise with a couple bangers.

Two really good songs and the other 7 are mid at best. I don't need to hear the whole thing again.

I wanna give it a 3.5 cause I do love a 2000s rock album but yea nothing super exciting or interesting idk how these are being sorted as the best albums this ranking system is white as fuck

Like it. Favourite song is Been Caught Stealing 3/5

As Fleur learned over dinner, I’ve an awful lot of Dave Navarro trivia tucked away. Even more now I’ve read his Wikipedia page too. (Memory’s a fickle thing: why is it that I struggle to commit the names of new bands I like to memory, but, having read it today, know I’ll never forget that Dave Navarro’s dad lent his surname to his actor friend, Roman Novarro?) I’ve long enjoyed Perry Farrell’s vocals. How they glide across some already pretty incandescent instrumentation; electric white sky writing against a bright blue sky. And that sense of elevation is right across every element of this record; the brash choruses, the breaks of colourful psychedelia, the seamless elision of genres. “High” might be a loaded term when it comes to Jane’s Addiction, but that mix of altitude and attitude is rarely better aimed than here. A versatile, synaesthetic trip of a record. And did you know, Dave Navarro has his own Wah pedal?!

Been Caught Stealing is a bop, and this album had interesting moments but its hard to overlook the voice sometimes.

Never heard this before and surprised me. Some good songs.

É um disco irregular. O começo traz um som meio confuso e barulhento com uma levada funk. A medida que o disco evolui, vai melhorando muito, chega ao ápice com "Three Days" and "Thna She Did...". Gosto bastante dos timbres límpidos das guitarras e dos arranjos meio épicos. Um bom disco!

Surprised by how much I actually enjoyed this album. Mostly because I tend to skip whenever Jane’s Addiction comes on

TLDR: Listened, but did not take time to fully appreciate. I was familiar with the band’s name and ‘Been Caught Stealing’, but have never explored much further than that. The album was a familiar-ish style/sound that you have to be in the mood for, and I briefly read about its making, but ultimately didn’t take much time to appreciate it besides that. No stand outs (maybe Three Days?) that encouraged me to dig deeper and probably need to revisit some other time. Or maybe not.

Not really interesting for me. Think i liked the other album by them better anyway

Actually pretty nice. High 3/5.

Prior to listening to this album, reading the reviews made me feel like I was probably not going to enjoy it. Imagine my surprise when it turned out to not be all that bad, in fact the almost 11 minute long 'Three Days' was a real treat to listen to.

This was kinda hard to listen to. It didn’t demand any of my attention and it wasn’t like it deserved much of it either. Edit: (2->3) sometimes things don’t demand your attention because they want you to choose to choose them. This was arrogant of me and I faulted here.

I like the riffs in this album. A nice 90s album that I think should definitely be listened to by anyone into rock music, especially 90s rock. The shorter tracks are more my type of music- I would give it a 3.5-4/5. Although longer tracks aren't usually my thing they were pretty good. Though the vocals are slightly irritating to me. Favourite songs: Been Caught Stealing Then She Did Three Days Stop!

Been Caught Stealing and, to a slightly lesser extent, Stop! Were huge back in the day. Of the two stop is my favorite. I never really got I to the first. However, the rest of the album is just ok. Maybe I need to listen to this one a little more, but for my money Nothing Shocking is a much better album.

Standouts Stop Been Caught Stealing Three Days

By hair metal standards it’s not bad. But the guitar solos where they just try to play as fast as possible really annoy me.

I keep wanting to like these guys based on their singles, but it turns out I only like the singles

Kinda fun - not the best thing I've listened to, but still alright! (3/5)

Only the upbeat songs I liked, the ones that are more punk rock

Stop! - 7/10 No One's Leaving - 7.5/10 Aint no right - 8/10 Obvious - 7/10 Been Caught stealing - 6.5/10 Three Days - 8/10 Then She Did - 7/10 Of course - 6.5 Classic girl was a 7 72

Yep, definitely a good album.

01) Stop! - 7,0 02) No One's Leaving - 6,0 03) Ain't No Right - 6,0 04) Obvious - 6,0 05) Been Caught Stealing - 7,5 06) Three Days - 5,5 07) Then She Did ... - 6,0 08) Of Course - 7,0 09) Classic Girl - 6,5 TOTAL: 6,39 (64/100) Current ranking: 465/647

This was better than I expected, although halfway through I realised I was expecting Faith No More. This is ok though. Started off sounding quite refreshing, however I lost interest halfway through. It’s very samey. Probably wont be back

I really like Jane's addictions sound, it's a bit RHCP but the funk rock is taken in a different direction. Reminds me of that band The Music as well who must have been influenced by them. It seems like they don't really do anything with the sound though, there aren't any obvious hits. I know been caught stealing but that's just the most well known of the tracks that sound quite similar. Could do a few clear riffs to build songs around. Liked it for one listen, want to like it more but it's just missing substance.

Been Caught Stealing is decent enough, think it could do without the dog barks or the hand claps/crummy snare. Actually, for the most part, I didn't enjoy the drumming. I'd probably say that is one of the least of the reprehensible things about the band - the lead singer is pathetic. Dave Navarro is brilliant, however. The second half of the album was dreary. +1 for Been Caught Stealing. Oh, it is from GTA San Andreas!

Only know Jane's addiction as I was aware Dave Navaro was in them before being in RHCP for an album. Don't think I've ever really listened to them. This was ok mostly. Vaguely RHCPish, I did recognise been caught stealing. Don't think I'll be rushing back but pretty good 3.5

Not bad

3.5 This could easily be a 4 or even a 5 with a better vocalist, as the songs are pretty good. I liked Obvious and Three Days ...but from 1990, Facelift should be here instead.

idk i don't really like metal whaddayagonnado

There was some good tracks, towards the end I kind of got a bit bored. But nice to listen to for awhile other than just their hits.

Not my fave

Interesting maybe a 4

This album rocks, guys have a great sense of personality and style, remind me of Turnstile a bit. 3.5

The first few tunes are great but for me it runs out of steam and it's hard for me to evaluate this independent of what losers the people behind this grew in to, especially recently (2025).

Jane's Addiction is one of those bands I always kind of forget about but really enjoy when I come across them again. I hadn't heard this album in like 30 years probably. There's a lot going on in this record. I feel like the musicianship is actually really excellent. I've always thought of Dave Navarro as a really underrated guitar player and his work on this album is just great. I'm not sure I'd really call the album as a whole a great album. There are great parts. Even within songs, great parts in otherwise mediocre songs. All in all this album is just kind of ok. Maybe I don't like Jane's Addiction as much as I remember. I don't think I would buy this album if I saw it in the record shop, although I like a lot of it, I don't think I'd really listen to it much. 3/5

Not an ultra fan of it, but some good sound, Mainly the lyrics are incomprehensible

Most of it is damn good, but the distorted edges to this album are a bit too jagged to make me fully love it.

Coming into Ritual de lo Habitual without much of an attachment to Jane’s Addiction, I wasn't quite sure what to expect.Tracks like “Stop!” and “Been Caught Stealing” were instant attention-grabbers—catchy and punchy. Overall, the album felt more like an interesting ride than a deeply resonant one. I didn’t dislike it—there’s a lot to admire—but I wasn't completely pulled in either. It’s one of those albums I could see growing on me after a few more listens. For now, though, I’d call it intriguing but not essential.

I'm not much of a Jane's Addiction fan, although I do like "Been Caught Stealing." I think they're good, they just do nothing for me. Perry Farrell's voice starts to grate after a while, too.

On the fence here. I enjoyed the arrangements and production; the drumming is clean and the guitar work is strong, and I love me the bass. Lead vocal performance is bold but difficult for me to enjoy. The first half felt uniform, but the album opened up and became more dynamic as it went on (consequently I enjoyed the second half much more). Overall I’d say I respect it but don’t love it.

Look, I get it. It’s a classic. The musicianship is nuts — Navarro in particular is off his rocker in the best way. But Perry’s vocals never quite hit for me; too much theatre, not enough nuance. Still, this album oozes sweaty, chaotic, late-‘80s LA energy. It’s a mood — just not always mine. Feels like the official soundtrack for American dudes who quote Fight Club and still call it “my truth.”

not as good as I had hoped it would have been, Been Caught Stealing by far the stand out track.

Very unique blend of alt rock and psych rock. One of those bands that truly has their own voice and sound. Hard to hate.

Jane's Addiction is a weird one for me. They were big while I was growing up, and while I don't "dislike" them I never really was into them to the point that I thought they deserved all the praise they receive. They definitely have a unique sound, and really they aren't a bad band, but after listening to this album again I still don't think they deserve to be talked about as an "all time great" band. Not that they didn't deserve success mind you, just that I feel they get a bit more love than they maybe deserve. This album includes what I think is probably their most recognizable song, "Been Caught Stealing". It's a fun song, but much of the album sounds very similar. Another "Yeah, it's fine" album for me.

I like some songs but mostly it’s okay

Having seen the members of the band, especially Dave Navarro the album came with high expectations which due to stylistics choices really let this album down personally. I would give thiis album a 3/5

Hints of a Chilli peppers bass line in the opener. Halfway through and I'm just not feeling this album. Don't like the vocal. Been Caught Stealing is the one I recognise the most. Album takes a stylistic turn halfway but I'm still not feeling it. 2.5/5. Raising to a 3.

Really good. I forget how much these guys veer into prog rock. The back half of the album feels almost like a different project completely, which I dug. It grates on you after a while, but I liked.

Creative good musicianship but for me let down by the vocals.

Pretty standard stuff for the 90s. Not sure I've listened all the way through before

Not my circus, not my monkeys. But I get it.

Some pretty good alt rock. I did expect more from a name I've heard so often. I already knew Been Caught Stealing, but nothing else really stands out to me. It all sounds like much of the same with disorienting echo thrown in at times. Although they played with style a bit on Of Course. The frontman's voice still manages to make it feel generic. Not a bad album really, but I wouldn't put it on.

Not quite my cup of tea but some songs are nice. Melodies seem repetitive and most likely won't go back to songs but it have a rebellious energy and pumps you up.

Not the best of their albums. Decent enough listen though.

‘Of Course’ has a cool Indian vibe to it.

Another album with 1 good song on it

in some ways i wish i liked this one better than i did. the instrumentals are nice and can be pretty good sometimes. i'm used to unique, unconventional voices, but i am really not a fan of perry farrell's voice and that makes it a pretty mixed bag for me to listen to. but i think the worst sin of all is that, quite frankly, the back half of this album is pretty overloaded and boring. the first half i liked, the second half was a slog.

Liked it more than I was expecting to! Fav song: Then She Did...

Summer 1990. There was a little controversy over the cover design if memory serves me. Whatevs, Jane's was in rare form here. Rythms and riffs were awesome. Not a listen-to-every-track-repeatedly for me, but very good.

Assumed this was going to be absolutely shite 80s/90s alt rock in the vein of Pearl Jam etc., was pleasantly surprised.

I know of Jane's Addiction and one song in particular from this album, but that's about it. It is a good album, but overall forgettable.

It's ok. Background. Voice just drones on without any lyrics really making themselves known. There might be something more there, but...meh.

Meh I didnt love this, the hits are perfectly ear worm but that's about it

Bored me a bit in the first half but picked up again in the middle and the end was alright so it kinda won me over. Still only 3 stars

Great alternative rock album

Was hoping this album's non-radio hits were as good...but they were not. Solid effort, but not as exceptional as it could've been.

This was a little bit better than average but maybe just not for me. There was a guitar solo in the first song that was decent.

It’s hard for me to objectively assess this band and album. There was a time when I listened to Jane’s Addiction obsessively: I saw them live on this tour, and listening to this certainly brings back good memories (fun fact: I stole this CD, the final act of my short-lived klepto phase). On the other hand, Jane’s hasn’t aged all that well for me. Part of it is that I have mostly moved on from the whole funk/cock rock sound of the era, of which I consider them an exemplar (Red Hot Chili Peppers being another; God I hope we don’t get any of their albums). But also, Perry Farrell has shown himself to be an insufferable douchebag in the 30-plus years since this release — which makes it hard not to listen for evidence of him as a self-centered, drug-addled empty vessel in older work like this. TL;DR version: I don’t love Jane’s Addiction anymore. The second side was always the real strength of this release, but if I had to pick one Jane’s album it’d probably be Nothing’s Shocking.

I really love some of Jane's Addiction's output. But I find a lot of it to be filler. This one feels 50% filler.

Like the music but not the voice much. Back half was interesting.

Sounded strange throughout, but the second half grew on me a little.
