Reviews (page 3 of 7)

Another techno album out of madchester that I oddly like. Likely because it addition to being techno has electronic ambient elements and therefore seems more like a musical journey you go on instead of just being all smashed on pills

Electronic danceable chill

Listened to Orbital back in the day. This is like comfort food to me. A headphone ride to say the least. It all flows quite smoothly except "Quality Seconds." The way the vocal samples are used is a quaint reminder of the time period in which this came out, but I think they add to the rhythm and body of the songs.

Enjoyed this in 94 and still liked it all very much today. Quite Krafwerkian with the layered sounds and (mostly) absence of big beats a la Fat Boy Slim and Chemical Brothers. Still absolutely love Kein Trink Wasser.

Excelente possibilidade de audição de eletrônico com muitas camadas de batidas e melodias.

Man love orbital, love this album brings back so many memories.

Orbital soundtracked a fum part of my life, they were at pretty much every festival for a while.

Kunnon hyvä, ei merkkiäkään kämyydestä joka liittyy yleensä sekä ysäriin että reivimusaan. Etenkin tykkäsin alkupuoliskosta. Jatkoon.

Snivilisation is perhaps one of their most ambitious works, ranging from house to hard rock, using the voice in the subtlest of ways and integrating samples in almost mimetic ways. It is also their most "physical" album, which is a testament to the duo's greatness. (7/10) FT: Forever, Kein Trink Wasser

Sounds like Orbital to me!

I’ve listened to songs by Orbital in the past, but this was my first time hearing a full album. I really enjoyed this album. The music is interesting and has that 90s electronic music sound with a lot of cool samples. Great music to listen to while working! My favorite songs: Forever, Crash and Carry, Kein Trink Wasser, Are We Here?

While it might be my favorite album from Orbital, this is still a great ambient-ish techno release to check out. Favorites: Sad But True, Science Friction, Are We Here?

Yassss

Otras canciones que me gustaron mucho: "Sad But True", "Philosophy by Numbers" y "Kein Trink Wasser". 8.5/10

Definitely eclectic but I liked it a lot! Thought about going with 5 but there really aren't any lyrics so it's not stimulating in that way. Really good musicality!

It's Orbital, and if you're in the mood for Orbital, you'll like this album. It's a time period for me: Orb, Orbital, other electronica/acid house music

Not their best but a great album nonetheless. I love Orbital’s pioneering dance sound. These feel like classical compositions in depth and heft and really elevate the genre. Probably 3.5 stars for me for this particular album but I’m rounding to 4 in case this is the only Orbital album on the list!

Ik wist niet dat ze al zo lang meegaan. Fijne muziek!

I vibed with this, fun and heady

Enjoyable background. Very cohesive and immersive aesthetic

i liked this a lot more now than i did back in like '96 when i first heard it. it's held up very well.

Techno funk juzz from the 90s at it's finest.

It’s a bit over reliant on the vocal samples when I think they’re not necessary, but the sound of this thing is great. Not too busy, but very energizing.

Good techno.... they’ve got a serious cannon of work, these chaps!

I've liked other ambient stuff more, but it did a decent job of flowing in the background. Felt shorter than 75 minutes. However if I wanted ambient I'd put on Brian Eno or Aphex Twin Favorite Track - Forever Least Favorite Track - I Wish I Had Duck Feet ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Pretty decent British electronic. Nothing to write home about, but good background music for working. Pretty impressive for 1994!

As someone involved in my former career in the break up of illegal raves not sure I can like this, but I do to a certain degree. Probably due to my love of ambient or what the cool kids call, I believe, Come Down. Love the song title Wish I Had Duck Feet. So do I and also everyone else. Then we could all paddle around with headphones on listening to this stuff. The world be a better place especially with Alison Goldfrapp crooning in our ears. 3/5 8/7/26

I'll give it an extra star for being very good at what it's supposed to be. Other than "Kein Trink Wasser", I don't remember a single thing about this album.

It wasn’t bad and I kinda liked the vibe but it wasn’t anything special

Overall a fun listen

I liked it - floyd-y and fsol-y

I was previously familiar with Orbital but not this album. This is pretty much what I expected - an ambient album with electronic elements. It mostly sits in the background, which is fine, but it's the sort of music I have to be in the mood to listen to. I would listen again, but probably just as background music while doing something else.

Glad to have some electronic music- a nice change up from a lot of the music on this list. Felt like I was back in a Berlin club listening to British techno.

A collection of some nicely varied '90s electronic tracks that are actually at least partially awesome through-and-through, though a little inaccessibly long for the amount of variation within each track itself. They *do* vary, but not enough to necessarily do away with the immobile feeling of tracks like these. It's pretty cool, though, could listen to some tracks

Techno music. I don’t know the history of the genre but maybe influential? This helped me go to sleep.

Interessante, fora da zona de conforto, voltava a ouvir

Gostei, fica bem como música ambiente, especialmente de phones

Random thoughts: * Another group where I'm familiar with them but it never occurred to me to play a whole album by them. * The 90s had such a weird and expansive explosion of electronic music. I really feel like I missed out on this music in the moment. * OVerall, this one was interesting and had some great sounding music but also had some more challenging songs that weren't exactly ear pleasers and made you work a little harder. * Overall interesting. However, again, no need for 2 Orbital albums.

Good electronic album, if a bit long

Snivilisation sounds like a Harry Potter DJ.

extraño

Why are there so many albums of this genre on this list? Like way overrepresented. This was an engaging listen in the BMW - brilliant in a number of spots and overly repetitive in others. I liked one song: Kein Trink Wasser. I don't think I'll come back this way again but wouldn't be offended if it came on. 3/5

Chill electro album from a chill electro band.

cant beat Orbital 2 but still a good listen

smooth

I always enjoy the layers and journey in Orbital's tracks, but they go on a bit too long for me.

i like the name

I saw Orbital open for Yngwie Malmsteen at The Crematorium in Shanghai in 2032. It was amazing. 3.75

Mostly enjoyed it!

I actually liked this more than the previous album, Orbital 2 or the Brown Album. Once again, my main drawback here is the length of the album. My favourite track on here was “Kein Trink Wasser”, which was sort of krautrock-infused and reminded me a bit of Kraftwerk.

Fav- rhabpsody by numbers

Totally fine electronica. Good for me as background music, but that's about it.

One song fucked me up hard. I thought someone was talking in my house. Pretty fun album. Lots of interesting beats and sounds. Not sure I would revisit this one.

Pretty interesting and psychedelic in an BOC kinda way.

I dreaded seeing an electronic album this morning, especially at 75 minutes. Solid though. Enjoyed the voice clips and mellow tracks.

This came out a couple of years too early to have registered with me, but I did like their later 90s tracks like The Box and Satan, so had an idea what to expect. It was a good listen but nothing really stood out greatly either.

Nada mal, mas não é meu estilo

sniv world

It’s electronic

The album art looks like avant-garde testicles. 6/10

Okay album, 3* is enough. Faded into the background but I guess that’s the point 3/5

I think if id head this back in the day and it had seeped into my musical history I would have loved this. But I didnt and I don't.

Listened to on my Apple EarPods. This is my first time listening to anything by the group Orbital, which I've never heard of beforehand, and I think this album 'Snivilisation' stands as a solid piece of electronic music, if not a bit lacking from time to time. This album can feel really atmospheric, especially in the opening and closing moments of the album, where the tracks are long and have a more relaxed vibe to them. 'Forever', the opener track wouldn't sound out of place in a 2000s futuristic game like 'Deus Ex' or 'Ratchet and Clank', while the penultimate track 'Are We Here' tracks a slowed down DnB drum sample to ethereal vocals, and is one of the few moments on the album I found the vocal samples to add meaningfully to the track, as the voices ponder the question of being the only intelligent life in the universe, which fits well with the vibe of the track. 'Attached', the finale track, runs fully into the space vibe, sounding like you finally made it into orbit around earth, mission accomplished. There is a general futuristic vibe to the whole sound of the album, though a future circa mid-90s. The more atmospheric tracks I list above are moreso bookends to an album filled with focus, energetic dance tunes like 'Crash and Carry', which I found myself less intrigued with and more typical sounding within what I might expect from EDM. Doesn't mean that they are bad, but they mostly don't stand out to me in the same way, aside from something like 'Sad but True' which has the same type of ethereal vocals found in 'Are We Here'. There were a couple tracks that stood out to me in a pretty negative way, that being 'I Wish I Had Duck Feet' and 'Quality Seconds', which are perhaps the most experimental moments of the album. The former has a rhythm that sits in the background while stacked vocal samples repetitively weave over each other in the foreground which was a little annoying to my ears, and the latter--luckily very short--is perhaps the biggest blast of energy on the album but uses these tinny and ridiculous sounding MIDI instruments for the entirety of the track, and it honestly sounds a bit like a joke to me. Beyond these specific tracks, a recurring theme throughout the album is the usage of vocal samples like I mentioned above, which sound mostly like old advertisements and news clips, and for the most part I found that these didn't really add much to the album at all, and stood in the way of sinking away into the dance vibe when played repeatedly. These snags aside, the album is an enjoyable electronic album on the whole, and presents a variety of interesting sounds and ideas into a rhythmic and swirling dance format.

Pretty solid effort by this pioneer electronic band. But nothing that stands out as superlative. Does set a fun mood.

I mean I like it. Curious to see the global rating

Ok. Not as good as I remember it

cool but bit boring

A bouncy, kinda chill electronic album. Didn't mind it. 2.75/5.

didnt finish listening but it was good just too long

Not bad, not great.

Better than the brown one of theirs I listened to before. Some good beats on this. Does outstay its welcome.

Beep boop. Starts slow and builds. Sonically interesting, musically less so. Uptempo ambient for programmers on a high dose of caffeine.

made me feel like i was in a critically acclaimed sci fi from 2003.

not for me

Favorite track(s): Forever, Science Friction, Attached

Upbeat

This just doesn't hold my interest, it's all a bit boring really. Heard before ❌️ Listened this time ✅️ Revisit ❌️ ★★★☆☆ (5/10) Total reviewed : 277 Already owned : 62 Purchased : 15 To buy : 2 Nope : 198

great album to work to, but nothing super special. i wouldn’t mind if any of the songs came on while shuffling through my liked songs, i think that makes this album a three for me. the tracks were hypnotic at times, spacey and a little ominous. maybe the best way to describe the album feel is that the tracks sound like what you would hear in an alien waiting room or elevator (Science Friction is the perfect example). Fav tracks: Forever Science Friction Kein Tink Wasser Are We Here?

1001 Albums Generator 260 (4/1/2026) You know, it's decent enough atmospheric techno music, but the vocal sample on Philosophy By Numbers, the obnoxious piano tone on Kein Trink Wasser, and the entirety of I Wish I Had Duck Feet definitely bring the quality down. I was a bit scared by the two massive songs at the end, but they are actually both quite beautiful, with Are We Here? featuring tribal-sounding drums. Quality Seconds is such a strange choice, not fitting at all with the rest of the album, but I can't say I disliked the hardcore electro-punk, especially since it only lasts a minute and a half. The opening track is also a fantastic vibe. Mixed bag here, so a 3/5. Favs: Forever Are We Here? Attached Least Fav: I Wish I Had Duck Feet

Decent EDM

Interesting. Will probably listen again.

Not my usual fare but listening on my run this morning I enjoyed

I enjoyed most of this

Cool sound! worth a second listen.

Some pretty strong highs, but it gets irritating during its troughs. Favourite track is probably Science Friction. I did like the very industrial intermission of Quality Seconds, and Attached is a capable and variable closer. Still, not sure if I would return to the album too often.

Typically something I would enjoy but this one was not great.

Okay but not great album with a really stupid name. Not a bad listen-while-you-work album though.

Interesting, but drags on too long. Ended up reading Project Hail Mary to pass the time which did lend a more definitively sci-fi aura to the album.

Pleasant enough ambient

Reminded me of being in a 90s club some good grooves enjoyed the heavier drumming ones

Uuuh so good

Enjoyed this, I’ll call it good music to drive to. At 61 I’m unlikely to be gurning to it at 5 in the morning

Ambient, house, whatever music. Good for background. It felt a little too long and it was a bit of a slog to get all the way through. Overall, nothing bad, nothing great.

Pretty cool. Kein Trink Wasser is the stand out track, that and Are We Here were the most impressive. A lot of the rest was pretty standard fare for the time if not a little more complex.

I like Orbital. But there were many times that I forgot this album was on.

Faktisk meget chill ud over enkelte numre, der er hårde at komme gennem

Virkelig god arbejde-på-kontoret plade, nok ikke hvad Orbital havde i tankerne da de lavede det.

Chill music to clean to

Hadn't encountered this before but a good, varied electronic album, maybe one or two memorable songs short of a higher mark.

What a treat, loved revisiting this,

I think I have this CD in my garage somewhere. I still like it OK but I don't think it's held up as well as some of their contemporaries (like Underworld for example). Still think "In Sides" is the Orbital album that should be here instead.

At denne plata er her, men ikke mesterverket In Sides, er absurd.

Fin. Skjønner ikke helt når man skal høre på denne typen musikk. 3,5.

The beeps are beeping, the boops boop, and the loops are definitely looping. Good album to clean your house to.

i like this, good time

electronic bleeps and beats - not up to Kraftwerk or Tangerine Dream levels

It was fine. Inoffensive.

Liked this more than some of the other 50 British electronic duo dudes we've drawn, but some songs still sounded so comically dated (e.g. "Philosophy by Numbers"). I really cannot take the cliches they layer on to dance tracks about wisdom, self, philosophy, etc really just makes me want to tell them to stfu already. But not the worst thing I ever listened to

Didn't hate it just long electro

Ok music to have in the background while tapping the keyboard at work. There’s better music for this purpose available that’s been made more recently, but the fact this album is old enough to have school aged children, you have to credit the output purely based on technology available then vs now

Day 182 Kinda just made me depressed how time passes, spent a few nights at festivals watching Orbital whilst chewing my own face off, man those days were awesome, just isn’t the same listening to this kinda music whilst drinking a cup of tea. Highlights Keibler trink wasser Attached

A techno album with some decent sounds

Physically hurt me at first to see such pioneers in Orbital get hit with an average score of 2.70, although I haven’t ever given this particular album a run through. I get techno isn’t for everyone but you can’t put these guys simply in that box. In between a 3 and a 4 for me

90s trance . Nice but nothing mind blowing

This very much gave me Chemical Brothers/Fatboy Slim vibes in terms of sounds from that time. I'm not really a fan of that overall sound. This was just okay for me. There was some parts that did sound pretty good, but it just wasn't my cup of tea listening to a bunch of the other parts.

track 2, 3

at first i saw the double digit runtime of some of these tracks and threw up a little bit in my mouth but the album ended up really impressing me. it's like an interactive science exhibit of an album; it's at this sort of intersection between jazz and electronica that is the artistry of throwing together disparate sounds and coming out with a delicious sound-goulash. i do think it ends on a low note with the two longest and most soundscapey tracks, which don't really pull enough tricks to justify their runtime. I Wish I Had Duck Feet pulls some cool tricks while being the most digestible but I think Sad But True is my favorite

becoming disillusioned with the title of the series. i just don't think this has added to my musical acumen in any way. a lot of genres at work here though

Better than Orbital 2.

Pretty good background music at work

I like Orbital, but wasn't super impressed with this album. It's ok but the music is just kinda meandering, the grooves are there but don't hit that much or hypnotize you in the way some of their other albums do and in general it doesn't evoke that much in me. The vocal samples are kinda random and don't always fit the vibe. I like the opener and the last 2 songs, the rest is mostly just fine.

funky vibes. not an every day listen but didn't hate any of it

Not an EDM music man. This was still a good and interesting listen. Was surprised by the samples and pacing of some of the songs.

Some neat techno bops, a rather curious album indeed. I honestly think most of the tracks are too long, but there are some nice sounds that are pretty fun and interesting. It’s not for casual listening, and I’ll probably never listen to it again, unless I’m on drugs maybe. There is something pretty hypnotic about a lot of these beats, though. If you just let it wash over you, then it’s pretty nice.

Feels like one of those 90's "internet is the information superhighway" videos where you're flying through a CGI black hole. Bleepy and bloopy. Got better over time, but still not really something that I'd be listening to except for in the background while working or after doing ketamine. 3.2 starts

þetta var bara fínt sem vinnuplata...

Fín og þægileg raftónlist. Gott að vinna við þetta.

Way more interesting than most electronic music I've come across - really picks up where Hawkwind left off, by layering deep space sounds over pumping rhythms.

Album #1,012 Electronic beep boops and buzzes. Repetitive as expected. Just…OK.

It's fine and i enjoyed it but probably doesn't need to be on this list.

Dreamy, trance-like techno

There's a lot to like and I assume a lot of this was new in 1994 but at the end of the day I don't get that excited about electronica without vocals

torn on this. Not in a "do I like it" kind of way because I like it, but I don't know if it's a high 3 or a low 4. The vocal samples on this album never quite worked for me back when I actively listened to Orbital back in the day and that hasn't changed. The instrumentals are great, though. if I end up rating this a 3 know it's a high 3. if I rate it a 4 know it's a low 4. please also know I'm not entirely satisfied with either decision.

Ambient Techno...Could not agree more. So very 90s.

Comfortably background for me. I didn’t dislike it, but I also didn’t like it.

Enjoyed this much more than I expected! Definitely some tracks that should be danced too but also some nice ambient stuff.

Putting this on and it instantly fades into the background. I'm looking up recipes to try in 2026 and I almost forget this is playing. There's nothing about it that makes you want to turn it off but nothing so good that you want to turn it up. 3.5

Hmmmm… good question

Fine. Sometimes good. Sometimes boring. This probably sounded amazing and cutting edge in 1994.

I was all ready to hate this and I gotta say… I didn’t love it but there were more than a few moments I liked. Less techno dancey and more kosmische. A few songs sounded like Neu! But it was way longer than necessary.

Not sure why there are multiple Orbital albums but ok.

Much better than I thought it would be. Still not my thing. 2.5

Kind of chill, but none of it really stood out as anything special. By the one hour mark I was done, but the album just kept going. Somewhere between two and three stars, but I'll round it up to three I guess.

First impression: ten tracks, 75 minutes? The opposite of the delightful Ramones treat I got yesterday. Oof. Electronic is one of those hit or miss genres for me. When it's good, it's really good, sometimes it's not necessarily good for active listening but it's useful for getting my ADHD ass to get some tasks accomplished, and sometimes it's a hollow, disappointing experience. We'll see where this 75 minutes takes me. ...yep, this sure is 90s electronica. It'll be useful for getting tasks accomplished if I'm in a very specific, well caffeinated mood.

Decent enough album. Good background music.

this wasn't that bad - a bit long but some neat tracks and good background music

In its best moments this makes you want to dance. A well done electronic album.

pc qui écrit au stylophone

ça s'écrit "Civilisation"

Really been feeling this era lately. (3.5)

I liked the space vibes on the first song. I was giving with it at first but it felt repetitive after a while. The shortest song (Quality Seconds) is one of the best and also aptly named.

3.3 2x

This is good if you’re into this sort of thing. A little repetitive for me.

It was nice atmospheric background...until it wasn't..and suddenly it was again. It was good even if it felt a bit schizophrenic.

You’re throwing up too much electronic music over the last week, this being the fourth in 8 days. I would maybe have scored this higher if that had not been the case, but comparing it to yesterday’s Chemical bro this seems a bit too background for my taste more on par with the ambient sounds of the Alphex twin earlier in the week. Well my crash course in the genre has shown me I enjoy it much more than I would have thought, though this is a bit too background, though guessing the live experience was something different all together. Strong 3 Star, happy enough to have on ( yes in the background), and will with some playlists in the future.

Not the best or the worst techno I've ever heard. Again, decent background noise for my workday. 3/5

Not bad. Could listen to them occasionally

Hissimusaa

⭐️⭐️⭐️

Psychedelic beats - almost all instrumental

Don’t really have too much to say about this one

First time listening. 2.5 This was interesting enough and had some fun moments. Bumping this up to 3 stars since this is something I would enjoy while running. While the tracks themselves can be repetitive, at least most of the tracks sound different.

Standout Tracks: "Forever", "Sad but True", "Crash and Carry", "Science Friction", "Kein Trink Wasser" A nice album! Plenty of interesting musical textures and catchy hooks.

Its techno...not my genre so I can't really give it any more of a review then that.

Sometimes I like to listen to techno while I'm working because it lifts my spirits and makes me feel like I'm in a video game while I'm hammering through the emails. It's something that can just be on in the background and without lyrics or catchy melodies it doesn't distract me as much. just beats and grooves.

I have been on a run of very average and uninteresting albums. For this one, at least I can say it was not the latter, as it was a very interesting listen. All the same, it was still just average to me, as I found a good amount of it to be pretty repetitive. Having songs which are exceedingly long is not necessarily a problem, but if there is no real diversity in the song, the question is: what's the point of extending this? The answer is still unknown. Best I can give this is 3-stars, and that's being generous.

Standouts Forever Science Friction

I love the album art and title for this thing but ultimately felt like it was an alright IDM album with some great moments. The end of the first track made my kidneys hurt 6/10

first electronic album on the list. shoutout Forever: it's okay. it sounds like the background music for an old flash game or something. I Wish I Had Duck Feet: loving these very squishy liquid-y noises at the beginning. cool but it feels like an interlude that doesn't build to anything *Sad But True: starting to click about a minute and a half in. this is funky, lots of cool rhythms overlapping. the section in the middle with vocals is whatever but it brought me back at the end. *Crash and Carry: percussion driving this one forward. realizing that I don't really know how to talk about electronic music since I'm not super familiar with it... I liked this one though Science Friction: hypnotic. it feels like all the different parts are looping but somehow nothing ever overlaps in the same way. Philosophy by Numbers: cursed super mario level. not hitting for me Kein Trink Wasser: decent background music. super impressive if he's actually playing that piano part and it isn't just a synth or something Quality Seconds: hello??? this walked so Machine Girl could run Are We Here: 15.5 minute song, locking in. lots of cool ideas, percussion is a highlight again. idk, it has a lot of time to do something really impressive but it doesn't do that much Attached: 12.5 minute song...re-locking in... this one has a more spacey psychedelic feel to it, reminds me a bit of Tipper. again, doesn't really go anywhere. __ SCORE: 6/10 ADDED TO PLAYLIST: Sad But True, Crash and Carry

It made me remember the groove of music from the 90's and 2k. This band took part in the OST Motal Kombat.

This was a really interesting album. It reminded me of 'Entroducing...'. The first maybe three tracks were really good but I felt from there it just dragged on. Not bad at all though.

Pleasant enough bleeps and bloops

Nice and innovative sound at the time, but always similar

3 Stars (8/15)

Love the album name. Was good.

Techno isn’t really my thing, but even so I could tell there was some interesting stuff happening here.

You can hear the bones of what Orbital would become. Flashes of brilliance, echoes of Aphex Twin and hints of the transcendence they’d later master.

I keep thinking 'this is not the album by X I would reach for'

I was really enjoying the music on this album and then the last 3 tracks really derailed it for me whereby it became a bit samey, long and dare I say boring. Such a shame as the first 3/4 was pretty good I thought

It’s unique but it’s all over the shop.

Cool old techno album, wasn't crazy good but ok

File under: Leads into a good Spotify playlist for listening to at work.

It’s pretty good background music while I’m working or doing other things. As a whole it’s not bad but none of the songs stand out to me.

1. Forever - 6 Some of the sound effects aren't enjoyable but the overall beat and sound is solid. Decent techno track. 2. Are We Here? - 8 Brilliant track. Really great beat, really good sound, really fun listen. Quintessential techno. 3. I Wish I Had Duck Feet - 5 Bit of an odd track. Not as strong as the previous two but not unenjoyable. 4. Sad But True - 9 Brilliant techo. Awesome beat, awesome sounds, and a really great track to move to. Superb. 5. Crash and Carry - 8 Another great techno track. Really good beat and sound that makes this a great track to listen to. 6. Quality Seconds - 6 It's not bad but it almost borders on hardcore EDM which I'm not a fan of. Reminds me slightly of a track you'd find on a UT2004 clan made custom fragging arena map. 7. Philosophy By Numbers - 8 Some more good sounds. It comes and goes on just how enjoyable the track is and it's certainly a lot odder than Sad But True or Crash and Carry but it's still very good. 8. Kein Trink Wasser - 4 Way to instrumentally over-repetitive and the song goes on for so long it's a real struggle to get through its entirety. It's not the worst techno track but it's not anywhere close to the quality elsewhere on the album. 9. Science Fiction - 6 Solid techno track. Decent beat with good instrumentals. Not the best thing on the album but a decent track overall. 10. Attached - 8 Solid techno trach with great builds, digression, and then more builds. Solid track to end the album on. Average Rating: 6.80 Adjusted to 5-Point Scale: 3.40 Rounded Down: 3 Stars

Video game music

If you're tired of cat lo-fi or smooth jazz playing penguins, this is decent background music.

Like it 3/5

Sounds like every other Brit pop 80’s band

I like it. Think there are definitely some stand out moments like piano in the "kein weiser" song. The songs can drag on a little bit and some of its annoying aspects reveal itself like the squeeky vocals and not great mixing i think in some of the songs. Still i think a lot of these woes are tempered with overall nice production with a pulsating and dynamic rhythm i think. I'd want to listen to it again to see whether it holds up or not. Would do 3.5 if i can but will leave it at 3 stars for now.

Pretty cool - realized that this artist did one of the main songs on the Hackers ost

I've never considered myself a fan of EDM, but this is pretty good. The layering of sounds and the placement and repetition of soundbites put some meat on those electronic bones.

3.5 probably!

Pleasant electronica

Planant.

Started listening to this right before I went to bed and now I’m too pumped up to sleep

Enthusiastic but not fully formed. Traces of the glorious In Sides (why isn't that the selection?) here and there.

Cool ambient, pretty nice listen, probably two long but still, 3 stars

Not an everyday album for me. Nice beats

Electronic music never really resonated much with me. I never really “got” it. That being said, I thought it was cool how tracks got increasingly more intense/up tempo as the album progressed. It was relatively enjoyable to listen to, but ultimately not really my thing.

Not bad but not something I’ll add into my regular rotation. Some parts were annoying or went on for too long.

Decent background music but it didn't blow me. Also, the album title leaves a lot to be desired.

Pretty nice vibes, bit too long though.

I liked this better that the other Orbital album I’ve listened to on this list so far. Having said that, the first half of the album is better than the second half. 3 stars.

Maybe 4

Groupe inconnu. L'album présente une musique d'ambiance assez réussie. J'ai apprécié le chant de Alison Goldfrapp dans 'Are We Here?' et 'Sad But True'. Par contre l'album est bien trop long, et ... certains morceaux aussi ! Mais il est suffisamment varié pour que j'aille jusqu'au bout. Il est même possible que je le ré-écoute en fond sonore. =>3/5

A bit too experimental, but enjoyable…

Hmm. Did I like this? Kinda? I didn't hate it. 2.6 rounding up?

I don't know that I need 75 minutes of this, but there are parts I find charming and interesting - "Kein Trink Wasser" is a highlight, and I think I hear the genesis of Korn's "Got the Life" in "Are We Here?". I do sort of question who this is for - it purports to be dance music but much of it doesn't really feel like it (at least not to my ear). It's been good "writing an appellate brief on Saturday" music, I suppose. Maybe it will reward me more on multiple listens.

Background music. It would suit a club atmosphere well, but really doesn’t fit anywhere else.

Not as bad as the last Orbital album I got. This one was decently listenable

Sometimes interesting

i didn't expect to like it but it somehow relieved my anxiety

There were a few tracks on this I really liked, but overall the Orbital doesn't do too much for me. They're a group I enjoy listening to single songs occasionally, but rarely ever a full album at once. 3.4/5

Decent album. I liked it but it also sorta just passed me by. I feel indifferent but positive about it. 3/5

I would have never considered playing this. Glad I did! Far more dynamic than I expected, and the music keeps on giving? Really nice. I really like it, until the last two tracks. They're too much, for me.

Correcto

𝘚𝘯𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 is a strong ambient-techno record that showcases Orbital at a moment of creative expansion. Rich in textures, layered synths, and moody atmospheres, the album blends rave-era energy with a more reflective, almost cinematic edge. It’s immersive and forward-thinking, and when it works, it’s genuinely transportive. That said, it’s also overlong. At 75 minutes, the album begins to drift — its impact diluted by material that could’ve easily been trimmed. A tighter 60-minute version might’ve elevated it from good to great. Still, there’s no denying its place in the evolution of electronic music. 𝘚𝘯𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 remains a thoughtful, genre-blurring release from one of the UK’s most important electronic acts.

some interesting, some funky tunes!

Used to be futuristic, still is in parts. 3.35

Lively beats and addictive ear worms

Not my cup of tea but cool nonetheless

I enjoyed this album, but no tracks blew me away

Might be my favorite Orbital album. Its incredibly chill. Even the album cover looks chill. Favorite track: Sad But True 3.5/5

beep boop i am a robot p.s. quality seconds is a banger i can’t even lie

Better than expected

Pretty good I guess electronic music’s not really my thing

Good overall.

Especially enjoyed the krautrocky "Kein Trink Wasser," but it's all enjoyable. Upbeat and lighthearted, not trying to be something it's not - looking at other 90's UK dance music that pushes way too hard into soul territory like The KLF or 808 State. The synths sound like synths, in fact the artificiality of the synths are celebrated rather than downplayed. The production emphasizes that idea as well, lots of pleasant trippiness in the effects, nice big low end. Thought it was going to be too long, but it really kept my interest the whole way through. Tons of variety rhythmically and sonically. Little surprises pop up, like the song "Quality Seconds." Some confidently executed interesting experimental work.

I love Orbital, but I have never really been all that into this album.

Some interesting stuff. Can see their influence. Repetitive overall but what are you gonna do. That's the genre.

I wish I could go to a rave in the uk in the 90s

I like Orbital, but this album was strictly average

It was fine. Good music to focus to but not really my vibe

The first track, Forever, is great. Very reminiscent of a late-era Pink Floyd or Kraftwerk instrumental. The synth rhythms are consistent but also broken and alien, very space-rock-esque. In contrast, the second track (I Wish I Had Duck Feet) is just standard percussion with a strange radio announcement monologue laid on top. Not exactly groundbreaking stuff, nor is it particularly enjoyable. The rest of the album is similarly spotty. Sad but True is a track laden with alien sounds and fun harmonies. Blue notes and diminished chords abound. Then Crash and Carry, with very little harmony or melody to speak of, ends up being five minutes of uncomfortable noise that varies only minimally for its duration. Philosophy by Numbers is like a better version of Radiohead's Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors, with some melodic synth lines mixed in. And I'm a staunch defender of Pulk. So this strange alternate take was oddly nostalgic for me. Kein Trink Wasser is such a violent outlier from the rest of the album, with its jaunty ragtime-esque piano lines and low backing strings, that I can't help but like it – even if it does diverge from that feel into less distinctive, moodier synths after a few minutes. The album drops the ball with the horrendously bland Quality Seconds (truly the lowest-quality 85 seconds of the album), but fortunately follows that with two solid prog-rock tracks that last for a combined 28 minutes. 3/5 Key tracks: Forever, Sad but True, Kein Trink Wasser

This one’s a bit of a synth safari. Bleepy, bloopy, spacey, strange. I wouldn’t normally reach for this stuff, but I actually liked the long stretches of mood. Not much groove, but plenty of groove-adjacent ambiance. Trippy little audio diorama. Spins: 2 Playlist Additions: - Forever - Sad but True - Kein Trink Wasser

techno direto ao ponto: gostamos

Beats were ok, sounds like a good soundtrack to a video game. Didn't mind but won't seek it out either.

Banger after banger after banger

Really big fan of the sounds on the opener, as they sound like a precursor to the sounds of the Xbox 360 menu. For that to be done in the mid 90’s is impressive. Fantastic transition into the second song as well, early on I had high hopes for this record. “Cash & Carry” has the markings of an early techno track with its 5 to the floor kick and repetitive, echoey synth loops. “Science Fiction” was an awesome instrumental, nothing more to say than it was a good beat. I’m a big fan of the piano layering and melody of “Kein Trink Wasser”. This song had such a sweet sense of forward momentum, especially when the strings kicked in subtly. “Quality Seconds” was the obvious lowlight that stuck out like a sore thumb - too noisy for no reason. But that’s ok, “Are We Here?” Was a great return to form, nice little breakbeat, continues to explore the idea of human population and purpose through some simple samples. The second half of this song is my favorite on the album, they go back to using some vocal vowel sampling and blissful synth sounds a la “Halcyon & On & On” to great effect. Whatever divine powers go through Orbital to make such serene songs, they found it again on this track. I think Snivilisation is functionally good if you want to throw something electronic on from the 90’s that is calm, easy on the ears, but sometimes dancey. Not trailblazing or monumental, but holds up on its own. I’d personally rate it a bit higher, I like this stuff a lot, but recognize that none of this is super duper amazingly groundbreaking, especially as it follows up an album that did pretty much everything this one does in a better, heavier-hitting way. STRONG 3, I’ll listen again!

Høres ut som jeg spiller en platformer

Pleasant electronic, good for getting pumped up potentially

They did well when choosing their band name, because the music sounds exactly like I expected it would based on their name. Decent background music to have on while working.

became background noise, it's decent enough but equally not sure if dead me would have been that upset if he hadn't listened to it

Hyvää tunnelmallista elektronista musiikkia. Vähän menee sinne taustamusiikki kategoriaan, kun kappaleet on kummiskin aika itseään toistavia. Mutta meni kyllä levy mieluisasti läpi. Parhaat: Forever, Kein Trink Wasser, Are We Here?, Attached

Pretty cool I didn’t like most of the vocal samples but a lot of the tracks were pretty cool. A higher-than-average 3

Pretty cool Techno album with a wide variety of sounds. I'm not a dance music expert by any means, but variety is not something I associate with the genre, so it's greatly appreciated here. Yes, it is pretty long, but for this type of music that's exactly what is needed. Otherwise, how could you dance to it if the songs were always ending? Not that this is a big frenetic dance album either, this is more a chillout kind of dance album. I liked it. Key tracks: Forever Philosophy by Numbers Kein Trink Wasser

Nothing like the annoying dumpster fire off Orbital II. While repetitive at times and a bit long, it wasn't overly annoying and had some decent parts I actually enjoyed. 3/5

Pretty intricate loop work. Great on a good pair of cans.

From the opening tracks, I was prepared to hate this. I have said to myself that I am going to listen to all of every track on every album from this list, but this was one of the albums where I found my muscle memory frequently trying to skip a track once I was halfway through it for the first few. I am glad I persevered, though, because Philosphy By Numbers and Kein Trink Wasser, I liked, and then Are We Here was also decent, I enjoy when electronic artists splice up and recontextualise existing voice recordings. Finally, the album ends with the strong and calming Attached. I hate the album title, though.

I wanted to like this more considering I'm a big idm fan but a lot of these songs are whatever, the last two were really great though

Sounded interesting but I’m not listening to all that

Slightly more interesting sonically than their self titled 1993 album that appeared on this list, but not as engaging to me as their 1997 effort IN SIDES. The difference is that this album was not meant to be listened to outside of a rave experience, where on In Sides they finally learned how to write song structures that are more pleasurable to listen to in isolation or as an album outside of the rave experience. While I am inclined from time to time play the entirety of albums by their contemporaries (The Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy, Aphex Twin, Meat Beat Manifesto, etc.), I never feel the urge to do so with most Orbital albums. If you have not heard their "Halcyon and On and On" live version (on IN SIDES) that includes the samples from Bon Jovi's "You Give Love a Bad Name" and Belinda Carlisle's "Heaven on Earth" swirling around one another, you are really missing out.

Not my favorite genre but this was pleasant enough. I appreciated the restraint and subtlety of the bass and drums / that it wasn’t just thumping…

First song "Forever" caught me by surprise. I liked it. The rest was getting more and more experimental. "Are We here?" had some drum and bass parts.

Definitely will never listen again, but do have to say kinda had a good time listening

Beep boop bop

You know, this kind of very long and experimental electronic music is actually kinda growing on me. I think this specific album still has a lot of moments that sound out of place and go on for too long, but overall I think it's still worth it for some of the best moments.

Well, that was weird, but I didn't hate it. Techno has a deserved reputation for being too repetitive, which Snivilisation was but not to the usual unbearable extent. What Orbital had going for them was the ambiance and variety. The album felt disjointed, but it grew on me. I was vibing! I believe I even noticed some Indian influence?

There are times when I like this, there are other times when it makes me anxious. The last track feels like the intro for a band walking on stage, and the intro music stops right when the band hits the first chord of their first song and the crowd goes wild...but...no one was that interested in the intro walk-up music - it was just there as filler to create a little bit of energy and anticipation.

Ok, just not for me

Techy electronic music. Feels like it could have been the soundtrack for The Fifth Element. Good for background listening, but not my favorite of that type either. 3.5

tolerable beep boop music

A little stranger than their brown album, but still provides some serviceable techno. It's not bad, though the last two track seemed to over-indulge a little bit compared to the rest of the album.

I don’t know what this is but I liked it. Apparently techno, but not the sort of nntz nntz techno I hate. Trippy electronic beats music 90s

This was fine. I didn’t really need to hear this, but it’s still less offensive than many things on this list.

Is this an album you need to listen to before you die? No. Is it great? Kinda. It runs the same thing all 90's electronic music does where it's unnecessarily self indulgent and long, but a lot of the sound design here is great. The album feels like a long primer for Are We Here? a song that I think outlives this project as it comes up in all electronic music textbooks at this point. I really enjoyed the Alison Goldfrapp contributions and I suspect that we'll get an album or two of Goldfrapp eventually which I'm excited for. In all, a good listening experience and sound design but not something I'll return too unless I'm really in the mood for it. There's better drum and bass on here than on the goldie album. Sorry that I'm a linkin park enjoyer I will do better.

This was so much better than I thought it would be after rolling the horrid Goldie album last week. The songs were still too long in places without much variation, but I enjoyed them still this time. I can’t overstate how much I didn’t want to listen to this, and how relieved I am to have enjoyed it Favorite song was Kein Trink Wasser

Actually kinda cool.

Was dead sure I've heard some Orbital album before but turns out not. I was skeptical at first but turned out that it's quite an intriguing album. Some other electronic/instrumental albums that I got thus far were quite underwhelming but this one has this special something that I enjoyed 3/5

This hits somewhere between The Books, Moby, and a generic PS2 racing game's menu/title music. It's not bad. Kinda sits in the background. Could benefit from some brevity.

Not my usual but I bet it blew minds in the mid-90s

Fantastic ambient electronica

Falls in the category of nice background music, perfect for working as no one's singing !

This was kinda cool but not something I'll likely come back to.

At times beautifully atmospheric, at times annoyingly obnoxious. I'll give it av 3 out of 5.

For me this is better enjoyed live I would imagine. Apparently they put on a great show. On an album not so much and it really doesn’t work on the headphones. The playlist after had The Box which I love and has a great video with Tilda Swinton

Interesting and I can see why Orbital fans like this bent of slightly busier ambient techno.

Sounds a lot like 90s video game music

Another techno, electronica, house music album that is interesting at times and has some nifty beats, but is more background music than a collection of banger songs. Feels like it would be good soundtrack music for video games or a dance club. Enjoyable, but I'm not the target audience to DJ this at my parties.

It was ok

Solid background music, not something that I would actively listen to.

not my vibe, jovis might like, okay to work to as not that distracting, wouldn't get on vinyl but see howq it could be sampled to make something I'd like

Sounds like it was made in a very clean and sparkly lab, in a test tube, with 100% synthetic ingredients or modules that can be swapped out, and that was designed to not spook anyone, with the algorithm set for middle-middle-mid-tempo beats that are more than full-on chill, but in no way orgiastic or even all that danceable. "Quality Seconds" breaks that trance but not in a good way – is it a spoof Muzak version of NIN perhaps? Is that an actual piano in "Kein Trink Wasser"? And a sample of an actual human opera singer in "Attached"? If so, thsese moments offer just the faintest hint of the human here. Not that's it's bad, and one's certainly not hating on it here; it's just that it's sterile as all get out and the satire doesn't bite – not with any, you know, bite.

Back in my techno days I was really into Orbital. Hadn't done this one, but it was just on the ok/meh side. 3/5

In-offensive is probably the best word to describe this. Works as back-ground music. Just a bit above muzak but not much.
