Reviews (page 7 of 7)
This album starts with promise, but the same sound with little variety overstays it's welcome.
I was excited to see this one at first because I owned this CD when I was young and was looking forward to the nostalgia. But oof, this was a flop. I didn’t know it then, but I know it now.
This should have been a delight, but they made it lite. Like a cheap diet food. It did not satisfy.
Fun. I bet it. But not for me.
Its like destiny's child meets sugar ray set to the sound of 90's euro house. Kinda of a cool musical experiment with almost no substance. An album best left in 1990 where it broke rules and genres but in 2024 its very niche and dated.
Sounds like the time it's made for sure. It's a nice background noise for when you're doing something fun already.
It was alright there was a bit of repetition, and if you have to drive back home quickly to go to the bathroom then you will have a better view on it.
really not my style of music at all. kinda unsure how this even made it onto this list......
Of course I knew Groove is in the heart. Based on that song I expected more of a P-funk or disco sound, but it sounds more like the British house music of that era. The album has one stand-out track: Groove is in the heart, which is really a great song. The other songs are nothing special and not my taste.
2 decent songs = 2 ⭐️
This gives me flashbacks. Fun yet the songs aren't very different from each other. One sound.
This has great energy, I can bop to it, but ultimately this type of music isn't for me. My favorite tracks are "What is Love?" and "Groove Is in the Heart. I like the grooviness and wobbliness, long delays on vocal samples Nice use of Slide whistle on "Groove Is in the Heart". I hadn't previously heard a single song off this album besides "Groove in the Heart". Q-Tip's rap in "Groove Is in the Hear" alone almost brings this from a 2 to a 3 Star Rating for me.
another dnf but more because i ran out of time. not really my style but i knew some of the huge hits
Not for me
I was wondering why this album would have been on anybody's radar until "Groove is in the Heart" played.
One hit wonder with a bunch of unsa, unsa, unsa beats.
Sounds a bit too much like disco for my liking
This one hit wonder shouldn’t be on this list
It's not my thing, but there are elements I appreciate on it. I actually very much dig the opening track. 2/5
1. "Deee-Lite Theme" - Funky. Nice opening dorian sax motif. 2. "Good Beat" - very of it's time - Pump Up the Jam/Volume etc. 3. "Power of Love" Everyone's got to have one. Bit more Madonna- esque this one. 4. "Try Me on... I'm Very You" - filler. 5. "Smile On" - bit too slow for dancing, not enough interest for listening. Filler. 6. "What Is Love?" - Bit more Orbital, like it. 7. "World Clique" - meh. 8. "E.S.P." Nice house dance track. 9. "Groove Is in the Heart" - I've always supported the song philosophically, but it's never been on my playlist. 10. "Who Was That?" Nope. 11. "Deep-Ending" Deep house, 'sokay. 12. "Build the Bridge" - Axel F's annoying little sister.
Needs a drummer, an analog piano, and a better beat samplist. Or at least a better drum programmer.
Well, dogamn, this album sucks. Back in the day, all the dudes had a boner for Lady Keir and checking out some of her zany photos from the the 90s you can still see the allure. Unfortunately all those crappy rave chemicals she was eating, snorting and shoving up her tooter haven't been kind to her. Or, any of us for that matter. Do you expect that eating handfuls of truck-stop ephedrine and snorting 'herbal ecstacy' isn't gonna affect you long-term? Yep, time moves on, and mock beehive hairdos that were a stretch then, are straight-up ridiculously sad now. Just. Like. This. Album. :( But Groove Is in the Heart is, and will always be in my heart. Whenever I hear that track, I fall right back into those times. Full Cheshire. Cheek-to-cheek, ear-to-ear, full-toothy smiles...
C+C Music Factory was robbed! If the one-hit wonder of Deee-Lite makes the list, why not the two-hit wonder “Gonna Make You Sweat” as well? In truth, I’d rather neither made the list, though boy do they capture the vibe of 1990. But it’s a vibe that didn’t survive the early 90s. It all feels pretty cheesy and cringy looking back. “Groove Is In The Heart” is not enough to carry this unspectacular house party.
What Is Love is the height of this album. It’s got a nice, gritty trance feel. The rest of this album is overwhelmingly vapid. When they stay in house electronica mode, it’s the most tolerable. The couple songs where they try to sing verses, it’s insufferable.
Sadly one good single doesn't make an album great
Groove Is in the Heart is still a favourite. Digg! I vaguely recall listening to this album a few years ago and being disappointed, and I still am.
Groove Is In The Heart does all the heavy lifting on this snoozefest of an album.
Was ok ish for the era
Quite fun. Who Was That is delightfully odd!
2.16 average per track.
Fun for about a minute. And that minute was decades ago. One would say "one-hit wonder" but there's a real deficit of wondrousness despite all maximalists layering. If only all the world was merely a night in a club ... with club kids ...
Naaa
Thought I would enjoy it more but it was honestly pretty mid. Groove is in the Heart still slaps
This album is like a 2/5 for me. Groove is in the heart is a banger though.
who was that is the only song on this album
2.8 This is a 90s time capsule. Fun listen but prob wouldn’t put this on on my own
Album was alright but kind of passed me by to be honest. Obviously the well known "Grove Is in the Heart" was a good listen, interesting to listen to the full album.
Really? This is very lightweight. Groove is in the heart saturated Sydney bars in the early 90s
It is groovy but this era of vocals are boring and cliche for me.
The first half of the album was really uneven, and hard to get into because it bounced between faster and slower songs. It started getting more consistent starting at track 8, but then it was over. Groove Is In the Heart was good, as always. 2.5/5
Album definitely wasn't my taste. Can't say there was anything in the album that would make me want to listen again.
Was alright
nah
A couple catchy songs but overall it’s a no from me. I wouldn’t dance to this. But I wouldn’t dance to anything. Beta length.
annoying. the reason I thought I didn't like electronic music.
Deee-snuts
Eh
Groove is in the heart❤
It was fine. Didn't really get into it though.
got bored
Was okay - nothing special.
Kind of a novelty album
Today, I did not dance.
This was pretty much everything about the 90s that kind of sucked and is now laughable. This was some Disney produced funky love music that doesn’t deserve this much praise. Besides the most comical album cover this album was just bland and your typical everything’s alright stuff but with a dated 90s sound. Delighted to be done. 4.2/10
one single, rest is boring
Very 90s. Not for me
A couple of catchy songs, but it took me probably 8 attempts to make it through the full album. Physically impossible to listen to while sober.
What the hell is this 😭 This is almost a 1 because I'm almost certain I will never touch this again, but yknow what, they're vibing, they're grooving. Groove is in the heart Best song: Good Beat
Nice effort
Yeah alright, but one of those 4/4 disco beats album that stays the same throughout
I wish they would scrap all the one hit wonders from this 1001 albums list and I wonder how many albums would be left. This one is just like listening to the same boring song over and over again, except for Groove is in the Heart which is actually good. But do I really need to have heard this before I die? Even with the one okay song on the album, I very much don't think so.
2 sterren.
We don't need to assess the short career of Deee-Lite. We're all here for the one eternal classic. The one song that has them on the list. Lightning in a bottle, the "Groove Is In The Heart" is. One of the all-time great dance songs. There's just not much else to work with here.
It would be cool if it wasn't the same thing over and over again.
2.5 Deee-Liteful.
Albums by one hit wonders usually explain why they were one hit wonders and this is unfortunately not an exception. Not terrible and not unlistenable, just not very good.
This album is so 1990. Obviously, Groove is in Your Heart is a jam. Build the Bridge is cool too. This album just doesn't hold up well over time. Still a fun throwback though. 5/10.
There's an absolute banger on here but outside this, the album has a delightful vibe but seems a bit amateurish otherwise
Nicht mehr als zwei Sterne.
What a disappointment. I love the lead single from this album and was kind of expecting to hear some similar (but slightly inferior) tracks and cruise in for an easy 4. But no. “Funky” piano house. I hate it. “I just wanna hear a good beat” - are they being ironic here? Such potential. I hope this hasn’t sullied my enjoyment for one of my favourite dance floor, cross genre hits.
not bad, not my fav
The music is good, don't get me wrong. But as an album, I'm honestly very underwhelmed.
Nah. Those 80's/90's synthetic beats always give me the shits. Add on corny lyrics, and mostly tuneless singing. Sheesh.
Cet album m'a tapé sur les nerfs dès les premières secondes. Si ce n'était de Groove Is in the Heart (que je dois aimer par la force de l'usure), j'aurais simplement détesté. Les rythmes étaient répétitifs et les sons, agressants
Eh.
New artist Favoriet: Groove is in the hart 2/5
2.5/5. This is different. The album cover is really something too. The only song on here I actually liked was Groove is in the Heart. I guess, at the end of the day, it's not bad.
Groove Is in the Heart is a great song, but the rest of the album is filler material.
Groove is an absolute brain worm
peppy. happy. didnt finish the album.
Corny 90s dance music. The one hit song was great, the rest was kinda boring and had too many weird keyboard sounds.
Honestly nothing intrigued me besides the groove is in the heart but not bad music by any means. Won’t be relistening anytime soon or looking for any more of their music.
One fantastic song, the others just merged into one and I lost interest
As an admirer of utterly horny women greased up and chained to a radiator, I could really feel myself getting a right lob on for this...until it started. I found myself being so enraged that i ran next door and stole the newborn baby of my neighbours. I sold him on the black market for £60 and a copy of the first series of The IT Crowd on dvd. Quite the day.
Groove is in the Heart is a great song, full of life and musically diverse. The rest of the album is the opposite of this; moribund, repetitive, and completely absent of ideas. It's forgivable as the genre was still finding its feet, but I don't think this album should be on the list.
Just another one hit wonder band/album that should not be on this list.
Not my thing.
90's American dance music... well it is OK...ish. some nice bass lines and some interesting vocals from "The Lady Miss Keir Kirby. Liked "Groove Is In The Heart" "Power Of Love" but really don't see this in my top 1001 Albums.
Never had much use for this sort of thing at the time, don't have much use for it now, and this album didn't change my mind.
Expected to like this one more.
This is exactly the style of 90s pop dance music I remember from listening to GWR FM in my Dad's car and watching the Chart Show on a Saturday morning in the early 90s. It's a nostalgic and not entirely unpleasant sound, but also quite dated and not very interesting. 2/5
Not so bad, just not for me
Not for me, but can understand why people would like it though.
Groove is in the Heart - top banger. The rest kind of blurred into one.
these guys' label had an office, for some reason, in the tiny town i grew up in. one day in 1990 they came in to do some kinda bidness, and were widely spotted cruising around town in their painted-up vw microbus. that evening, i was cruising on my trusty skateboard, with my trusty punk-rock leather jacket, when they came past, honking their vw microbus horn in some sort of 90s alt-kid celebration or whatever. i gave them the finger - actually, both fingers - and kept skating. i didn't care then whether they touched themselves (i know, i know, but they might as well have been the same group), or where the goddamn groove was: to a late-80s/early-90s punk rocker, their presence on mtv was enough for me to not care about them...their actual music just made it easier to give them the finger. so now we're...what, 35 years later? i still don't care about them, and having listened, for the first time, to this entire album, i still don't care about it, either.
Not really my scene.
Groove is in the Heart is great, but the rest seemed like generic dance music to me. The music is fine, but I'm downgrading my rating because it's basically a one-hit wonder.
sounds like En Vogue
Hipster in 1990. The three members look like the worst kind of douches you'd want to meet. Bad retro funk dance. Best Tracks: Try Me On ... I'm Very You; Smile On; Groove Is In The Heart
Fin blæs. Men det er kun fint
Welcome to the 90s my dudes! Wow! If any album I've ever heard said 90s it's this one. Dancey beats. Synth keyboards, random horns this album is a slap in your face telling you "HEY!!! THE 80S ARE DONE, IT'S THE 90S NOW MFERS!!" lots of "HEEEEYYYYYYYSSS" lots of "OHHHHHHHHHHHSSS" The cover even says "this is the 90s biatches!!!!" Anyways cool nostalgia for me and I could see how this would be influential at the time but I don't find vibe resonates with me know. Would probably give a 2.5 for the cool horns and the wahs plus the nostalgia factor. Probably wouldn't listen to it again
Not really a house music guy. The single was enough for me.
Enjoyable enough but only really here for Groove Is in the Heart Saved: Groove Is in the Heart*
njae, jag gillar det inte
Meh.
That one song was a tune. The rest, not so much.
Groove is in the Heart is 5 star, the rest of the album is sub par
This album is just straight up weird. Not for me.
I don't want to be all "It's nice but I wouldn't want it on my bedroom wall about this" but that's how I'm feeling. It's not particularly unpleasant, I just can't think of any circumstance where I'd want to listen to this and I certainly do not want it on my bedroom wall. There's no progression or movement aside from the endless jogging on the spot feeling it gives you.
Meh
What you want: more imaginative, witty and hip-hop/funk influenced dance tracks like Groove is in the Heart. What you get: pedestrian, dull and unimaginative house music (albeit with a great vocalist in Lady Miss Kier).
Not my music at all, but even then I found the album to be very repetitive and boring
Some fun vocal manips and beats here but not enough to justify the runtime
Very average sound.
Funky. Most every song has a good beat that catches you. The album really shines with 'Groove is in the Heart', and the rest unfortunately suffers a bit because of the strength of the one song. Nothing really has the same complexity and vibrancy as that one song.
Not my type of music but def talented.
One great song
those are some outfits xd songs sound alright i guess nothing im super into though. done with the third song and im kinda done with this album already lol. wait i recognize What is love, or at least the beginning reminds me of "she's homeless". Groove in the heart is the hit! It feels so much more like a fully realized song than anything else so far. But I still dont love it or anything lol.
Most of this sounds like all the club trash from the mid-90s, but then it was released in 1990. I'm afraid being an innovator doesn't help when that trash got played to death for years. Groove Is In The Heart is always fun to hear though, and there are some cool samples throughout.
Groove Is in the Heart is amazing indeed, but rest of the record is just generic house pop, nothing special...
Música para loja de roupas em shopping centers!
House coñazo.
Never listened to their record, beyond just their biggest hit. Fun house grooves, but I don't think this is that important
una canción me gusta. El resto insufribles
mah..
Joa passt
No wonder they are one hit wonders. Uninspired, repetitive funk album with only Groove is in the Heart holding it up. And even that song is repetitive.
Funy album. Good to have as backgroundmusic. But could not realy intrest me.
Not for me.
Suspected it was included just on the basis of Groove is in the Heart… First track made me hopeful that would not be the case… Subsequent tracks made me think my original suspicion was correct… Overall, this has aged very badly and it may not have been very good in the first place. Also, anything that includes eating noises automatically loses a star. Though when it was probably going to get 1 anyway that is rendered pointless…
Álbum chato, no tiene sentido que sea parte de este recopilatorio
no me gusta
Its ok dance/club music. Not an everyday listen for me
Very cheesy
No. Just ... no.
FTL: I might just not understand this record. Would I die listening to this again… no. But wouldn’t do it voluntarily either.
Annoying
Overall kinda boring... apart from Groove is in the Heart, which remains a banger
This type of music is exactly what I think of when someone says 90's music.
The fact that this album is a part of the 1001 albums is an abomination, and truly reduces my trust in whoever chooses these albums. Truly trash. Groove is in the heart… or whatever, is a one hit wonder.
Bad
Nope
They get one star for groove is in the heart, everything else sucks. It’s just uninspired 90s dance, and they can’t even sing. I’d rather put on Haddaway or C & C Music Factory.
What in the fresh hell was that? This album sounded like some middle schooler messing around with their first music program on their desktop. Some tracks sounded like the soundtrack off an SNES game. Other tracks were weird vocal repetitions with an electronic rock backing. In retrospect, this album sounds EXACTLY like you'd expect from looking at that cover art. A horrid electronica album that's one of the worst yet, Deee-Lite will enter the Hall of Shame as my ninth 1/5.
one good song?
O soño da diversión produce monstros (#10 dos 1.001 discos que escoitar antes de morrer: 1/5)
Not for me. 1/5
I really tried to like it :(
Nothin to run tell my mom about even if she in the heavens
Dear list, Why? Seriously? Are you fucking with me? Love, Me Alright so party music has a time and place. I'm sure someone famous loved this and used the mix in something. It could be a song I enjoy. This album as a whole... No. Just no... I know why it's on the list now! I got to Groove is in the Heart! That fucking song was everywhere for some reason. Oh good it's a one hit wonder album! I thought the list maker was just messing with us like with Throbbing Gristle....
WTF. Rando euro trash dance. Thing is dance music is just not made for the album format. It’s not album music. You don’t need to listen to it before you die and anyway as far as dance music goes this isn’t that good. One star only because you can’t assign zero stars.
really bad, but somewhat enjoyable 2,5/10
Horrendous
This was absolutely not one of the 1001 albums I needed to listen to before I died.
Shoulda kept 90% of that groove in their heart.
Electronica, 45eme album =>1/5 Le premier morceau fait illusion, mais dès le second tout les travers de la Dance Music ré-apparaissent (répétitions, à la fois de la musique et du chant, rythmes basiques).
Really not good.
In an earlier review I asked how bad an album that Bootsy Collins contributed to could possibly be. I have to admit that this question is no longer rhetorical and the answer is 'far worse than I thought'. "World Clique" may have been innovative in its day but from today's view it is the cheesy starting point for one of the worst music genres ever - 90s dance floor. Not everything on this album is disgusting but if for some reason you get the chance to travel back in time to prevent it - go for it.
Мёртвый дэнс
These early 90’s dance music isn’t my style. I remember hearing “groove is in the heart” out in a bar/club
I feel like I’m in the Bronx playing basketball with a backwards floppy hat in 1990. Considering the list, I’m just wondering how much important house and dance records miss the cut to give this one space here. Especially by black house artists in NY/detroit/Chicago etc. The last track is actually incredible. Otherwise it’s quite a miss for me.
This music was not made for me.
Maybe a 2
Credit goes to the person who created the track listing for this album. This album could have been a dud with its repetitive beats and general lowlights on the album. Groove is in the heart is clearly a banger of a track. Overall, didn't enjoy myself listening to the album
Oh yeah that's annoying
Urgh
Okay, did not expect them to appear here. It's trash.
Meh
This should have been kept in the 90s toybox where it belongs.
Awful, awful, awful. This styling of music is too busy and deranged for my liking. I’m trying to think of other reasons to justify such a low score, but I think it simply comes down to the fact that I find much of these songs just flat out annoying. 💫
Fuck this album. God damn fuck this record.
A total turn-off
Trifft nicht meinen Geschmack und finde ich jetzt auch nicht besonders wegweisend.
Really dislike this one
Old drag queen music.
Highlight: Groove Is In The Heart The lead single is great (which I discovered on the Charlie's Angels soundtrack when I was a teen. Forever a bop). It's *made* for the dance floor. The remaining tracks are forgettable. It's better suited for the 1001 Songs list. Overall: 1/10
I was waiting for Marky Mark to start rapping, and never got it. 0/10
Old drag queen music.
1. dee lite - 1 2. beat - 1.5 3. love - 1 4. try - 1.5 5. zmile - 1 6. uuhat - 1 7. clique - 1 8. ezp - 0 9. groove - 2 10. uuho - 1 11. deep - 1 12. bridge - 0

Gear: Sennheiser MOMENTUM TW 4 Artwork: 🪐💅🏵️ Production: 🎧😒👎 Music: 🎛️🖍️🤦🏼♂️ Rating: ️🛸(️🛸)/5
This is seriously boring and mindless dance music feom start to finish. 1 star or F.
Unfortunately for this album, I have enjoyed the splendors of being born in 2004 and peaking with the peak of EDM music as it has come to be known. Compared to what I have heard and seen life, this album is just taxing on the soul. I can see why it must have been important for EDM as a genre, but I don't see myself ever returning to these tracks. 2/10
One good song, one star
Not a Dance music person
why is their a god damn bloody woman on my album cover. get this god damn foid off my screen!!!
One hit wonder band
mehhh 1/5
I'm glad that "[They] like it", because nobody else does. "What is love?" Love is skipping this album. "I couldn't ask for another" Brother, I didn't ask for one of this in the first place. It's incredibly disrespectful of this website to make me listen to Kraftwerk yesterday, foundational early Electronica that holds up astoundingly well, and then to make this the next album. It's a spit in the face to Kraftwerk, really. Oh, thank God it's done. I thought Grove Is in the Heart would be decent, but it was barely better than the rest of the trash on the album. No favorite song for me on this one.
Does anyone actually listen to this? I tried really hard, but it just annoys the crap out of me...
Only one song that I know, not exactly what I would listen to.
It sounds really silly to me.
Boring TBH
Schon wieder nichts für mich!
Come on
"Grooooooove is in the Heeaaaaaaart!" First words that came to my mind when I saw this album come up. It is the only track worth listening to, and I don't even like it that much other than for the nostalgia.
Dance crap.
A 45 minute single
Not for me 1/5
p636. 1990. 1 star. Proof that one mega hit does not mean this album is essential listening. Bland, insipid 90s dance music that has dated badly.
No joy.
Boring and weird. Catchy, but not in a satisfying way. Every song feels exactly the same, down to the tempo and drum machine effects with sporratic vocals or other melodies overlayed. Probably good for background music in a club, but not good music.
The repetitive beats are annoying with any artist, and in this case, while it gives an 80s/90s vibe, it's only use is as background music at a playground or club. I basically disliked this, but I can see how it made moves within electronic pop. Not sure why Apple Music classified it as rock.
mid
First listen. No thank you.
yeah this ain’t it
Funky
Overall: 2/10 Aged like milk left out in the sun for an entire summer. Can't believe people used to rave to this. Fav Song: Groove Is In the Heart (duh) Least Fav Song: What is Love?
Horrible. Almost didn't make it through.
Puts the 1 in one-hit wonder.
Maybe this album mattered in the dance music world at the time given its apparent ability to be inclusive, but it ruined all the parties I attended back in the day. And it almost ruined my day today after listening to it 30+ years later. The only groove in my heart is the one this crap album permanently took from it.
“I just wanna hear a good beat” - Deee-Lite, as well every person that ever listened to this album. Fuck this album and whatever it was trying to do.
DJ Bobo Pop in schlecht
I hated this kind of music back in the day and listening to this now I found my stance on this has absolutely not softened.
Not my thing
My only previous knowledge of Deee-Lite was the song Groove is in the Heart, a song so atrocious I’m pretty sure I would wake from a coma to turn it off. So when I saw this album pop up, I was sceptical. “Perhaps that song isn’t representative of the rest of their music” I thought, reluctantly hitting play. No, they seem capable of reaching the same lows consistently and without effort. The same caterwauling vocals, aggressive and irritating music, and headache inducing sounds were present in the first few songs. And then I gave up. Life is too short and too precious to spend any of it listening to Deee-Lite. Score: 1/5
"Groove is in the Heart" is good and obviously the hit single of the album. Good doesn't mean great and 11 or at least 9 tracks were skips. After +300 Albums there are such strong 2 Stars Album in my books that this one gotta catch the Uno!
Even Groove Is In The Heart can't save this.
Really enjoyable well recorded, intelligent rock music. Liked it a lot
1/5
Not good, but "Groove in the Heart" is a banger. 1.5 off that song alone
This is seriously one of the most annoying and pointless albums in this list. There is no need to include pure dance club music albums in this list--they're not intended to be cohesive projects at all. My level of interest in hearing different versions of what's whispered over a dance beat is slim to none.
Just awful
So much dance music :(
Late to the game. Should have hit the scene in the 90’s, they would have been a hit. One album, and done! Not bad music!
I was ready - you know, to dig deeper than the terminally overrated 'Groove Is In The Heart'. Kinda like '(Don't Fear) The Reaper' is only in the middle of the pack when it comes to Blue Őyster Cult's Agents of Fortune album. Nope - it's the best track on World Clique. By some distance. The rest is a fairly tiresome trawl through the same three drum loops seemingly available to early 90s dance artists, married to the same bass and piano tones that plagued the era. There's a token attempt at making the music a little trippier than usual, but it's all rather wan. Lady Miss Kier - a name that sounds like she's the wife of our current Prime Minister.
Wow, this really…sucked! Only one song was good, the hit, so I think I can officially place them in the category of one-hit-wonders. Shame really; “Grove Is in the Heart” is indeed amazing. Too bad they couldn’t build off of that gem.
If I was in a nightclub or at an event this album would be a good choice, but outside of that type of environment this album just doesn't do it for me - I don't think that house music travels very well.
Nope
1.5. Boring!
Absolutely not.
If ever there was a book about the 1001 *singles* you need to listen to before you die, "Groove Is In The Heart" would be in it, probably in a very prominent position. Amazing how such a crazy mix of so many different styles can come off as instantly memorable and likable. And how that track can still have everyone shaking their hips on a dancefloor, even today. That single is indeed a dance party anthem for the ages, drawing from a vast array of key influences, through all sorts of samples, stylistic borrowings or featurings within the track. There's a bit of everything in it: Herbie Hancock for the bassline ; Vernon Burch for the drum track and the hilarious slide whistles ; a wink to Parliament-Funkadelic (and G-Funk in general) through the presence of bassist Bootsy Collins ; sixties psychedelic girls group and The B-52's for the infectious main vocals ; a very subliminal layer of house music ; and, last but not least, a large serving of "daisy age rap", via the presence of Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest, whose featuring adds yet another layer of fun. All of this gathered in a single song shouldn't work on paper. Yet in spite of its all-in-the-pot nature, said song holds up like no other. An absolute miracle. Unfortunately, the album this gem is taken from is simply not very good. Indeed, most (if not *all*) of its other cuts have aged like milk--between the attempts at commercial dance music and more minimalistic house music dirges, both running into circles without buiding up to anything thrilling, contrary to what the best acts in that genre can offer. "Groove Is In The Heart" promised an album that could be light-hearted, fun, richly textured, precisely layered and adventurous. What we have instead is a display of lazy formulas, shallow and repetitive patterns, and a distinctive lack of imagination totally at odds with the album's centerpiece. Too bad. I was ready for a record digging the vein that single was so good at digging. Guess I will have to fantasize about what *World Clique* could have been in my dreams instead. Number of albums left to review: 164 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 361 Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 211 Albums from the list I won't include in mine: 269 (including this one)
My mom loves to dance. She loved this type of music and played it all the time when I was little. While it’s nice to be reminded of the 90s, I didn’t care for this.
Kinda everything I hate vocally, plus musically not interesting
Music for people on acid
Another one which spoils my streaming algorithm. Embarrassed to have it on my streaming history. And there’s only two e’s in Dee as in River Dee which is exquisitely beautiful and a direct opposite to this shite. 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001/5 24/4/24
First real whiff. It’s dance-y but I’m not really sure what sets it apart from anything else I’d find on MuchDance 90.
One star for Groove Is In The Heart. Half a star for Good Beat. Deee-Minus for the rest.
Garbage
Even the popular song was mid
Ja das hat mir gar nix gegeben. Rating: 1,5/5
Textlich auf jeden Fall eher unkreativ (die meisten Songs bestehen eigentlich nur aus dem Songtitel). Fand ich jetzt eher langweilig im Ganzen.
I just wanna hear a good beat and this album does not deliver. Zoo-Wa.
The wind is more interesting to listen to than that.
Ugh.... Dee-Lite are one of those shitty 90's electronic disco pop bands that were so popular at the time. They are best known for the song Groove Is In The Heart, which was a certified banger. The rest of this album pales in comparison though, and one good song does not a good album make. The album cover looks like something The Wiggles would put out. Thank fuck that albums done. It had good beat, but no one in the band had any talent whatsoever. The beat was maintained by a drum machine, and it was the best member of the band. What a painful listening experience. I want that 48 minutes of my life back. The early 90's was a shitty time for pop/dance music. Disco had died....leave it dead ffs! Favourite songs: Groove Is In The Heart Least favourite songs: Deee-Lite Theme... And others.... This whole album kind of ran together into a rave fueled mess. 1/5
Groove is by far the best song. Some are sort of ok, some are outright bad.
Well that sucked. This album had a lot of the things I hate in music. It was stupid, the lyrics were dumb and naïve, they had no depth, it was all just love and smile more and flower power. Musically it was buns as well. It was all just electronic crap with equally bad and worthless lyrics over top of it. I hated this. That felt good to get out of my system.
Poppy dance crap. Not for me.
love the vibe but not for me, every song sounds the same, album cover is funny
Obviously aware of these guys due to 'Groove is in the Heart.' Not a huge fan, let's see if the whole album can change my mind in anyway... Honestly I try not to judge albums on the artwork, because there are some awesome albums with boring/weird artwork, but this stuff is pure 90s pop nonsense so it doesn't look good from the jump. The intro was some weird attempt at hype-hop. The second song is literally called 'Good Beat' and it sounds like a Good Vibrations attempt. It's incredibly repetitive and not very good. Terrible weird 'zcat' with zoo-ahs throughout the outro. This song is terrible and it's way too fucking long. This is torture. Not a huge fan. Nothing else on this album is really grabbing me, either. The song 'What is Love?' is a weird, long, boring nothingness of synth farts. I literally laughed out loud at the weird 'It's Limited' lyric in the title track. Some bad rapping in this song. Gosh this is genuinely bad. I just read that Hancock was involved in this album and it almost makes me lose a bit of respect for him, that's how much I dislike this. The only good part of this album is Q-Tip's verse on 'Groove is in the Heart' 1/5
Groove is in the heart is a banger, the rest is incredibly forgettable.
1/5. Album does didn’t do anything for me. They really believe this album is one of the top 1000 of all time? I find that hard to believe.
Funk pop mash-up. Didn't find a single track on this album that I liked. A definite 1 star.
sounds like some digshitty dance-pop, lowest possible level of musicianship. blegh stealing from another reviewer: deee-lete this shit Significant 30/83 Liked 14/83 Added 4/83 NNN previous REM-Document also NNN
This album feels so phoned in. The instrumentals feel cheap and the performances sound aimless. I hate fun.
So this album has a song on it. It was a rump shaker with all the ladies back in the day. But what else is there? Sort of a one hit wonder album with the title track literally being the worst-- absolutely dismal sound and lyrics.
Not my style of music but not too bad...until the song with audio of someone eating chips. Terrible. 1 star
Sweet Jesus, this could not make the top 10,000 albums. Moondance to this. Sublime to the ridiculous
Terrible. Couldn’t listen to it at all.
Disliked greatly. Especially the song that ends with the dude breathing and eating chips and chuckling. Screw that. Please give me a good album next.
We don't need a clique To make our clock tick Our clique is the world The world is our clique ... do I need to say more Not even Q-Tip could salvage this record
The first real rough listen since I started this endeavor, pretty clear why they were a one hit wonder.
about what you'd expect from cover art like this. Their one hit was a fun song but I could get by without ever listening to deee lite.
piss
nope
an overall boring album. i get that its important for the world of dance music and getting it to the main stream but god its so boring.
Buiten "Groove is in the heart", vooral kut, 1.5
🤢
Shiii-ite
One great nostalgic song, the rest was very meh.
Why?
Really inane.
This was way worse than I remember it being.
Bad, no good
What is love is the only good track
Kolejna desperacka potyczna z lista, tym razem World Clique, ktory jest debiutanckim albumem grupy tworzacej szeroko pojeta muzyke taneczna Deee-Lite, jesli sadzilem ze wczoraj bylo grane na jedno kopyto, to dzisiaj zostalo to podniesione do potegi, bo dencingowo przy wykorzystaniu synthow, bo sami dje w bendzie, Super DJ Dimitry, Jungle DJ Towa Towa i The Lady Miss Kier Kirby, wiec wyjasnia to troche tytul ich debiutanckiej plyty, chociaz pani Kirby bardziej od spiewania jest w tym przypadku, ale moze cos tam kreci jeszcze na boku jakims dzikim synthem, jesli krazek mogl byc popularny w swoich czasach, czyli wczesnych latach 90, tak zestarzal sie slabo i jedynie jeden utwor zostal tam jakims klasykiem, mianowicie groove is in the heart, ktory ficzuruje Q-Tipa na majku, wiec jedynie ten utwor byl czegokolwiek warty, pozostala czesc tych 48 minut, to prawdziwe syntezatorowe meczarnie z gatunku house
Not for me.
Not for me.
Well, now I absolutely know why Deee-Lite is a one-hit-wonder... I did not get anything out of this album at all. It sounded pretty generic throughout, and the repetitive lyrics and vocal style really got irritating as I went through it. Ironically, this is the first album I have listened to on my nice headphones (I’m home for Thanksgiving break); however, it did not enhance or save the experience. This is the first entry I’ve gotten where I didn’t want to finish it, but I am determined and have decided to listen to every album fully. The only bright spot for me was their hit, Groove is in the Heart, but only for one reason: I had never heard the Q-Tip rap verse before which is awesome as always (huge fan of verses from “the Abstract”). Outside of that moment, it was overall the strongest song on the record, but the repetitiveness also ended up bringing it down a notch for me. 1.5/5. The weakest album I have heard so far on this list.
This album was the most 90s thing I’ve ever heard and it was not enjoyable at except for the one-hit wonder groove in the heart. Every song is both boring and annoying with lame production and okay singing until you reach groove is in the heart and there’s finally a catchy baseline. Without that one song this album would be completely irredeemable. Fav song: groove is in the heart
Hier was echt helemaal niks aan.
Nice drum break on first track Not keen on 4/4 beats and singing with piano Don't like the singing over dance music Slower tracks better I could do without listening to Groove Is In The Heart ever again

No
I think it's funk - but the annoying one
