Reviews (page 5 of 7)

Something different but not sure why it merits inclusion here.

Didn't know they made an album, generally good.

Grove is in the heart does carry this album, but the rest of it really is a good fun 90s dance album, glad I listened but not one I’ll come back to regularly.

ima zanimljivih

We talk about chickens and eggs, but we never talk about Spike Lees and World Cliques. They weren’t even black but this album sounds like the soundtrack, the very beating heart-vibe, of Spike’s first five joints. Wild that these people got this crazy crew of people together at this one moment in history to do this weird ass dance album and then never really do much again after. I mean shit they got Bill "Chicken on Fire" Coleman to sing backup!!

It does get repetitive very soon, but there are some brilloant ideas in it

Gotta say this made me want to dance

Dee-Lite? More like Dee-MID: this just felt like a very average, run of the mill 80s album. Groove is in the Heart will always be a banger but other than that it just didn’t hit very hard. A weak entry in the list, I did however find out you can watch music videos on Spotify via this album.

Best Song: Groove Is in the Heart. Super dance-y melody AND there's a Q-Tip feature? What's not to love. Worst Song: What is Love? The spoken bits by the female vocalist were just too corny for me. Combined with the fact that the main sample sounds like a kid playing with a plastic ruler, this one's a miss for me. Overall: Mostly middling dance offerings with a couple straight earworm jams in there that results in a volatile but average album.

Has its moments

I’m sure I’ve tried to listen to this in the past and sadly did not like as much as I wanted to. Groove Is in the Heart is an absolutely incredible track, and for that alone this album deserves to be on the list. It’s so good in fact that the rest of the album can never live up to expectations. You feel thought that this album was very influential on subsequent acts that maybe were not as pure as this but managed to get a commercial hit off the back of imitating their style. As a kid I always imagined that the bloke on the cover with long hair was Neil from the Young Ones.

Like the colourful energy of a Pokémon battle. Pikachu on the keys

This album surprised me in many ways. I was expecting something extremely cheesy and "90's dance pop" sounding, but there are a lot of tracks that really stand up, even now. Overall, I think the album is less cheesy than even the first Prodigy or Moby albums. However, the first half was much stronger than the second, and I didn't enjoy the album, overall, factoring in the second half that left me feeling more bored and disinterested, by the end. I am intrigued to listen to some solo Towa Tei albums, though, as he is still putting out music as recently as last year. For me, personally, I'd probably give this album 2 stars, but as with many albums on this list, I can see the impact and the reason a lot of other people might like it, and I think that deserves 3 stars.

Groove is in the heart is a five. This is an average.

first listen some fun tracks but kinda an inconsistent album

'Groove is in the Heart' is an instantly recognizable floor filler and with its killer groove, unforgettable melody and insistent bass line, is easily the albums highlight : absolute sunshine! Alas, the rest of the album is disappointing by comparison, but it's not terrible either. Great album cover though.

Average. This samples a whole load of great tunes; as a source/reference guide it might be worth checking out the originals. I would have loved this a lot more when I was a teenager. Now I think this was included by some music journalists who rightfully love the one hit Bootsie Collins MAKES Groove Is In The Heart, which is a floor filler in the best way. 2 Stars, plus a bonus for Groove Is In The Heart.

Belle prod. Devient long 5.5/10

mood allegro e tranquillo bella e famosa "Groove is in the heart"

Funky and fun, gives Scooby doo vibes Would listen again but not much of a repeatable album tbh

Sounds like the skating rink when I was 10. Kind of nostalgic.

Kuka ei saanut haluamaansa? Katso album coveria. 90 luvun avantpop se jöllöttää electronica pitää tunnelman elektrisenä 3/5

Simple, clear, fun, and effective. I’d play this at any dance party for sure.

This album has a few good songs but mostly feels week and weird. I have to think this music inspired so much that came after it so it has that but the album could be better.

Kan det låta mer 90-tal? svar nej

Interesting and easy to listen to, but not my favorite.

Thump, thump, thump, thump,...Quirky! Thump, thump, thump, thump,...How Chic! Thump, thump, thump, thump,...Funky! Thump, thump, thump, thump,...World Clique! This has a semi-irritating, catchy sound that feels like a parody of an SNL skit that is a parody of funk and house dance music. Bootsy Collins' bass licks bring legitimacy to Who Was That, so at least it's got that going for it. Can't say I need to hear it again but it was kinda fun and kinda bouncy and I didn't hate it.

Disco-pop with some DnB. Fun to listen to, but a bit long and repetitive to play outside of a 90s club.

Surprisingly good!

This one was a little hard to get through. I'm not a house music fan to begin with since my dad would listen to it nonstop in the 90's. There are some good rhythms and lines on this album, but it feels pretty monotonous by the end. I'm sure it was fire at the time of release though.

An album that contains what I consider to be one of the greatest dance tracks ever. But is the rest of the album any good? Well, the other tracks are a well-produced mishmash of styles but I wouldn't say it's a cohesive experience. One track makes the whole album......

Still really fun, though it turns out I’m not as into this kind of music as I thought as it had a lot more electronic elements rather than straight up disco revival that I thought it was. Still. Solid.

Though overplayed, there is no doubt that Groove is in the Heart is a monstrous banger. I could not stop myself from dancing as soon as that beat popped on. What is Love is a big step down but is the next best track and a catchy dirty beat. A fine pop album, but a lot of filler for me.

I’ve loved Groove is in the Heart like my whole life, as any self respecting human has. I finally listened to this album a couple of years ago when the 90s dance renaissance really started to take place and I enjoyed it but felt it was too uneven to rank highly as an album. I’ve increased my feelings generally on the record with this listen, but not a ton! Still - wouldn’t mind it being on in the background but it’s not peak dance music albums or anything.

My teenage self adored Groove is in the Heart. I confess I hadn’t listened to the rest of the album. It was funky as - maybe a bit too ambient for my tastes, but I cannot underestimate the number of rump shakes Deee-Lite has given me. I appreciate the love.

Extraordinary single. Rest is fine, from its time.

Pleasant funky house/dance music with the world conquering essential Groove Is In The Heart. Nothing offensive, very accessible dance music. Good grooves and singing.

I can appreciate it for what it is

Not really my thing other than the catchy-as-all-heck Groove is in the Heart, but there is a very fun quality to this. It might be cheesy and dated in places but it has a genuine sense of joy about it as well that’s difficult to dislike

funky record. kinda liked it. kinda not. 6.5/10.

Enjoyable but clearly peaks with groove is in the heart and the final few tracks were forgettable in comparison

Started out fun but the more I listened the less I liked it.

This was fine. I'm not a dance fan but it was pretty good.

the hit was a hit, rest was background music

Surprisingly pretty good in places

Cute album, great song. Groove is in the heart brings back memories. The rest of the album is OK.

Decent Album

No more a better sampler of 90s dance than Dee-Lite. When this song hit the charts, I bought the album and while a lot of it wasn't my favorite back then, this album was on constant repeat. This was a nice revisit to an album I haven't heard in about 20 years. 3.5/5

After a run of not my things this is a blessed relief. Love Groovers in the heart and other tracks so much more my thing. Dancy but also chilled. Fab

Definitely a fun album, Groove is in the Heart is a classic. Not the best for listening in the office for me, but wouldn't mind a few tracks on a clubs playlist

Well, that could have been worse. I expected it to be terrible and it wasn't so there's that. That said, these lyrics are beyond stupid and the vocals are... I don't know. The word that keeps coming to mind is "basic". There's just nothing much there. But it could have been so much worse.

Sometimes a bit outdated but most of the time just incredibly fun.

Groove is in the heart is enough to get this a three. The rest is enjoyable enough as well.

I wished every song was Groove Is In The Heart.

Absolutely infectious beats. Super cheery and danceable. Nothing of substance, but that's not what these guys are here to do. A fun little funky throwback.

OK. Nothing brilliant though.

Surprised to see this appear. Pleasantly surprised.

“Groove is in the heAAAAAAAAART” -Nick Miller

This was a fun listen! It’s corny as hell but it wants to be, I don’t know that I’d listen again but I had a nice time turning my brain off and grooving

Inoffensive background music suitable for a pilates class. Groove Is in the Heart was the only standout track for me, but I didn't hate this album.

1. “Dee-Lite Theme” 😃 2. “Good Beat” 😃 3. “Power of Love (Zanizibar Vocal Mix) 👍 4. “Try Me On…I’m Very You” 😃 5. “Smile On” 😃 6. “What Is Love” 🔥 7. “World Clique” 😃 8. “E.S.P.” 😃 9. “Groove Is In the Heart” 💎 10. “Who Was That” 🔥 11. “Deep Ending” 😃 12. “Build the Bridge” 😃 Overall rating: 😃 Classic meter: 💮💮💮

I remember "Groove Is In The Heart" from the early 90s when it was popular, and although I didn't seek it out I definitely remember how much I liked the song. I didn't think to listen to their other songs, so I'm glad this appeared as today's selection. Really nice, sweet, infectious, and fun grooves on this record, and the lead singer's vocals are fantastic. Really good stuff.

Another example of why hits are hits.

Not really my kind of thing, but a real snapshot into the dance scene of the early 90s. And Groove is in the Heart is such a great song. Go Bootsy!

Well what a party! Delightful. I mean this must be on here because of Groove is in the Heart right? The rest of it was pretty fun and funky but got a touch repetitive by the end I'd say

som meio morno, não é ruim mas repetitivo tambem

Groove is in the heart and oftentimes in this record.

Interesting hip-hop offering.

Finally something groovy and vibrant.

Abit of dance/house which is good for a change. Thought it’s a good album but nothing too exceptional. Fav tracks: deee-lite theme, power of love, try me on.. I’m very you

Cool disco 3/5 really cool for the 90's, ahead of their time.somehow

Du bon beat, une bonne production, en général bien fait. Mais un autre album qui souffre du syndrome de "bon mais pas au point d'avoir à l'écouter avant de mourir et probablement juste là à cause du one hit wonder". 6/10

Better than I expected, worse than I hoped for. Best track: Groove is in the Heart

Not my jam, but some good bops on this one. Good background music for a nostalgia party

Pretty good y'know. Groovy and dancy, not much else to add here

I don’t think it’s bad, but I do find the entire album slightly disconcerting and off-putting. I won’t listen to it again, but that doesn’t mean it’s not good. Really don’t know how to feel about it. Some parts are really good, but then another part in the same song will make me want to turn off the album. 3/5

Dee- lite Enjoyed this one the whole way through. Great grooves and cool samples with enough variation and live instruments to keep it interesting. Great vocal hooks. 3.5

This is was pretty fun. Cool sounds and cool grooves, I thought I was going to like it less so was pleasantly surprised

Nikad nisam čuo ništa van good beat i groove is in the Heart. Simpatičan hip house hibrid

A vibe. Everything does sound vaguely like "Groove is in the Heart." Really interesting guests and directly influences the development of 90's music

A little slice of history. A bit dated, but still some good songs. There are definitely a few low points, but not so low as to overshadow the highs.

Fairly funky dance music

Oh man, "Groove Is In The Heart" is such a perfect song. So glad that this record is on this list if only just for that song. The rest of the album is pretty tight. Infectious grooves and super fun energy. One of the easier albums to put on and simply enjoy on this list so far. Most facets of the music just fit perfectly- the vocal tones, the vocal performances, the melodies, the production techniques, the compositions, the instruments... it's all just so super well done. The one thing I noticed is that "Groove Is In The Heart" has a bit of extra production "love" in it compared to the other tracks. When listened and A/B'd back and forth between others, it's louder, more compressed, and more saturated. As a production nerd I appreciated the polish on this one but it's a double edged sword because it waters down the other tracks. What makes it worse is that this is one of the more egregious examples of this that I've ever seen (heard) on any album which is a bummer.

It has “Groove Is In The Heart”, but outside of that I really don’t know why this is on the list.

In time I will give this a 4, but for now it's a 3 because the early 90s aesthetic is so out of fashion - it hurts my eyes - and I'm that superficial - sorry.

Groove is in the Heart and other songs by the group that brought us Groove is in the Heart

~ The Wiggles do house music ~ Goofball lyrics with fun beats and silly sounds

It was really enjoyable, Loved "What is Love?" and the bootsy collins bass line on Groove is in the heart is a classic.

Aside from a very peppy tune that saw heavy rotation on Mtv back in the day, this seems to be a good, but rather pedestrian funk album.

A solid representation of what was groovy on the early 90s. Songs that make you smile.

I was a kid when this came out and I remember the hit single, that early 90s dance sound is kinda pleasant to my ears... in small doses. The sort of thing that was played at my primary school discos. Not really a groundbreaking album; ultimately it felt a little pointless, and they look annoying on the cover, but it was a fun enough one-off listen. 3/5.

I was expecting this to be super dated and apparent that it was a 90s dance band. There are definitely moments that seem dated, but for the most part the synths and sounds hold up well. Groove is in the Heart is the one people know but, I liked Good Beat and What Is Love?

There's a huge distance between being a one-hit wonder and being a worthy entry into 1,001 records. Deee-Lite deee-finitely does not getting anyway near to crossing it. This is fine dance-club music, a pleasing and inoffensive amalgam of club, funk, disco, etc. Was good fun at the time, and is barely that now. One thinks Deee-Lite should deee-finitely be happy to retain even one-hit wonder status in posterity.

this might be shorter than some of my other reviews. its new years day and im pretty hungover, and instead of dripping creative juices i'm just dripping dust. but actually that's perfect, because this album is actually a pretty good vibe for my current state. some quite basic and not too intense dance music to ring in the new year. happy 2023 everyone. hope this year treats you kindly. good album. 3/5 for sure, i had fun with the whole thing. no tracks were duds, and one of them even made it onto a personal playlist of mine so that's a win IMO. best track - 'try me on, i'm very you'.

funky.

This album was only ever made to be a fun little distraction so I wasn’t expecting much. Still, other than “Groove Is In the Heart”, it was pretty aggressively mediocre all the way through.

ready for music trivia now

Groove is in the Heart is a certified banger. Pretty crazy lineup of people they got on this album as well.

llol NÖRTTI ALERT KUVASSA XDDDDD SILMÄ LASIT! ihan hyvä lbumi hipiti hopiti kohdat hyviä laulaja on semmone joo kiva vähän ottaa siitä r ja b hommelista mallia I(haista vittu) ihan kelpo kelpo juttu vähän eksperimenttaalia ripoteltu sinne tänne deep ending

Vibes but not always the best vines

Could've been better but fun I guess

I had low expectations when I saw the cheesy ass album art but the instrumentals went hard and Groove is in the Heart is a hit for a reason. Wouldn't say it's revolutionary and a lot of it is pretty one-dimensional but it's not bad either

Groove is in the Heart salvaged this one.

VERY 90s sounding... a fun album albeit very, very average...

Groove is in the heart saves this album

I always mix up this group with C+C Music Factory.

Some absolute tunes on this and some funky hiphoppy grooves which bring a smile to your face. A quirky, unusual album with outsized influenced. A lot of fun and optimism packed in. Good for unusual dancing. Probably need to listen to it a few times to fully appreciate. Otherwise a strong 3

HL: “Groove is in the Heart”, “Smile On”, “Try Me On…” Big dumb fun dance album. Honestly didn’t expect Deee-Lite in this list. Whenever my attention wavered, there’d be some line or goofy sample (the Good, Bad & Ugly whistle in “E.S.P.”) to pull me back in October 18, 2022

Surprisingly good. I thought I’d only know their one tune but I recognized a few.

Solid enough house album, but only a couple of stand out tracks. Yes, including that one.

Enjoyable, Groove is in the heart was a jam.

Groove is in the heart, what a great song that is. The rest of the album is enjoyable, but fails to live up to that.

Fun. 3/5

Stupid, but fun. 3/5

Listened Before? N Better than I expected! Pure early-90s dance goodness. Sometimes I miss music like this. Also: Groove is in the Heart is one of my favorite 90s songs. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Groove is in the Heart (duh)

Only know the single, Groove is in the Heart. That's a tune though.

Corny, but in a fun way

Dee-Lite theme - Kinda intro song Good beat - I don't expect anything to be lyrically complicated so I guess l just want to hear a good beat?👍 Power of love- a vibe, not a very catchy hook Try me on... I'm very you - this a very good vibe👍 Smile on- A bit twee for me What is love?- weird song with just spoken vocals and a weird sample. Still works as a song generally World clique- lyrics don't really make sense, lots going on with production ESP- really cool song, especially effects on vocals👍 Groove is in the heart - never heard this rap verse before, but otherwise a bop👍 Who was that - home invasion core. Pretty bizarre Deep ending - standard dance song Build the bridge - this song sounds like orbital Very good vibe, again more of a background vibe 3/5

Perfectly fine, one banger and the rest blended into one thing

Heard it before?: Yes, this is my 2nd listen Enjoy it: Yes, it’s surprisingly relaxing and comforting for the genre? No harsh sounds at all, just nice beats and mixing and vibes Favourite song - (never any doubt) Track 9 - Groove Is In The Heart

I wanted to love this, but most of the songs are too sparse and/or repetitive to live up to the song that everyone knows. I love the vibe, I love the vocalist, I love the style. Most of the songs need work though. Good Beat could have been a lot better by just being half as long. Who Was That? is repetitive at the start, but the back half is a lot of fun. Deep Ending is cool but the lyrics aren't great. An album full of bangers like Groove is in the Heart would be an easy 5. Oh well.

Groove Is in the Heart is a fantastic song, but unfortunately nothing else on the album is anywhere near the same level. I enjoy late 80s and early 90s dance music so it was a fun listen, but I'm not sure I'll return to anything aside from Groove Is in the Heart, Power of Love and E.S.P.

Nice album, yes, but not an album I'd call special in any way. The only thing that stands for it is Groove Is in the Heart being a hit back then, and therefore the entire album's inclusion here can be excused as a sort of "marking the moment in time that was". But should peeing on the post to mark a territory make for a reason that's good enough? I'd argue Deee-Lite is your classic one hit wonder of a band. And there's nothing wrong with that (it's certainly eclipses my personal achievements in the field of music!).

The came out my freshman year of college and Groove Is In the Heart was absolutely everywhere for a while. A couple of lesser hits pinged memory while listening to this: most of it I’d never heard. The rest of the album lacks the star power of the major hits but overall a very consistent and decent dance album.

tylko groove is in the heart dobre, reszta bida

Funky dance music

It's one of those albums that doesn't get a reaction other than disinterest and slowly reveals itself to be more interesting song-by-song. It builds up to their most well-known song and slows back down. I think they really had something going on here but whether it's the beats or the singer or the composition, it needed a bit more flare to keep my attention.

Infectious, fun and easy to listen to. Otherwise, not really my kind of music, but a change once in a while is fine.

Quirky and fun. Doesn’t hold up over time

I think if dance music were still like this today, my disposition towards clubs would be a lot more positive. The album was quite enjoyable to have playing. But also totally forgettable. rounded down to a 3.

Really great, it's house dance at its best, a mix of funk and Electronica the track "Groove is in the heart" was unavoidable in the 90s it was everywhere radio, TV, films truly inescapable. while I was still to young to properly appeciate them in the early 90s they are probably what lead to my love of trace and trip hop greats like Paul Oakenfold and The Chemical Brothers a decade later.

really early hip-hop there are interesting parts here and there but groove is in the heart is the obvious standout

Nice band, it's not the kind of music I hear but it's interesting.

Deee-lite-ful.

Het is een leuk album, maar toch niet echt spannend of zo. Blijft een beetje laf. Favoriet is het bekende "Groove is in the Heart", maar ook "Good Beat" heeft wel wat. ***

Big dumb dancin' fun.

low key listen to power of love often

04/13/2022 Fun, early 90s pop. Bubbly, feel-good tracks.

Grove is in the Heart is a great song. I had no idea it was by this group or that it would be on this album. Without that song the album would be a 2. Overall the album is just there and generally is unremarlable besides Grove Is In The Heart.

Not the biggest fan, feels very repetitive, probably good when on drugs.

Fun if dated sounding house album. Not sure how much I would listen to it but I enjoyed it.

'World Clique' is an LP featuring music primarily of women, by women, and for women. And men, if you’re down with feminism, you’re welcome to join in the dance party, too. ‘I can’t read your mind,’ Lady Miss Kier implores on ‘Try Me On… I’m Very You,’ ‘So you got to let me know all the time how it feels for it to be real.’ If that’s not feminine to the core, I don’t know what is! One of the things I like about this recording was the positive energy it promoted. The titles are filled with words like 'good' and 'smile' and 'love.' Oh, and don’t forget 'groove'; but, we’ll get to that in a moment. On the second to the last song, ‘Who Was That,’ someone broke into Kier’s house, took a bath, ate some food out of the fridge, just generally helped themselves to a B&E hotel for the night. And, had this happened to, say, the gangsta rap group Cypress Hill, they would have hunted that motherfucker down and given him a dirt bath. Kier’s reaction? Not even a hint of anger or retribution. Rather, radical 'hospitality', a word not found in any of the song titles, but could be. Positivity aside, the lyrics only play a supporting role to the lead, the real star of 'World Clique': the groove. If you’re feet aren’t tapping in the first 30 seconds, then you’re either deaf or dead. Subtle, but prominent use of piano and horns, steady drumming and heavy on the bongos (in a good way). Lots of electronica. And with the legendary bassist (for both James Brown and later Parliament Funkadelic) Bootsy Collins joining in the fun on several tracks, the groove is most definitely in and at the heart of this whole LP. The title track, 'World Clique,' celebrates both individuality and our global communion. Hence, the ‘world is our clique.’ And the members of Deee-Lite even incarnates that vision with two DJs- one from Russia, the other, Japan- and Kier, a multi-talented artist from Ohio. No doubt they draw from the other five continents for roadie assistance and sound engineers and promoters and such. My best friend, who turned me on to this whole '1001 LPs' exercise in the first place (& for which I am truly thankful), recently posted a review of a group he criticized as unrelentingly repetitious. And while my response to him is that I often like that- given the right genre- I must confess that 'World Clique' was, for me, a little too repetitious All of these songs are just too long to listen to, but none of them are long enough to dance to. I did not listen to the bonus track (not on the original LP), ‘Build the Bridge,’ but my suggestion for Deee-Lite is that their good electronica dance music could greatly benefit with a few well-placed musical bridges here and there. Then again, what do I know? I dance like a hippie at Woodstock. And Santana’s ‘Soul Sacrifice’ still grooves the shit outta me.

A time capsule of 1990. I had fun with these NYC party starters.

Fine, but not great. A few of the songs are pretty cool and innovative with samples or unique instruments brought in for the beats, but many are also just funk/synth wallpaper filler. I think the airy, spacey vocals don't help with this as they don't drive the songs much and kind of just melt into the sound of the beats, which are sometime bland. 5/10

I rather enjoyed this. Groove is in the Heart is highly irritating because it is over familiar. There was a period between late summer and early autumn in 1990 where you couldn't escape this song. The rest of the album surprised me in a good way. The house tracks and pumping piano actually got my dancing around my MacBook. There's more depth to the album than I was expecting. I had no idea Bootsy Collins was involved.

Good house music with some late 80s hip hop influence. This album is optimistic and bouncy. However, it just doesn’t do much for me. I did enjoy it though, it’s just not something I would choose to listen to.

Mezcla de pop y música de baile. Muy de estilo de los 90. Mucho sintetizador y efectos de todo tipo

Groovy man. 3/5

I love dance pop from the era. Takes after disco and the rising house movement. The over-the-top production and punk-like vocals appeals to fans of B-52's Cosmic Thing or Madonna's Like a Virgin / Erotica. I wish it lasted a bit longer but the grunge movement shortly after killed the bright dance mood of these types of albums. I don't particularly think any of them are worldbending other than "Groove is in the Heart" (which is one of my favorite songs of 1990), but I really enjoy them all, and will continue coming back to this album. It's silly and fun and has great beats.

Je sais pas trop quoi penser ahah. Cest bizarre mais ca s’ecoute bien relax. 3.6

World Clique redefined techno music as futuristic kitsch, a genre for the masses with a sense of humour. "Groove Is in the Heart” is on World Clique, and notably features funk n’ roll godfather, Bootsy Collins on bass and spoken word. That’s it. (6/10) FT: Groove Is in the Heart, What is Love

It was good ! 3*

Ah the early 90s house sound: drum and bass that sound like they came through a telephone, the same 3 chord piano riff in every song, some cheap keyboard stabs, over the top singing and vocalizations. The formula became a joke, but these guys at least got out in front. Groove is in the Heart is by far the best track, but it's also hard to go wrong when you have Bootsy Collins, Fred Wesley, Maceo Parker and Qtip together on a song.

Better than expected - main single is still a banger but not something I’d return to

90’er Elektronisk, rap, dance, rimelig sprødt, godt blandet

Ok, so interesting music besides the “one hit wonder “. I’m going to add some to some of my party playlists. It feels different, it feels like so much fun. The lyrics aren’t thought provoking but the sound is fun to have every once in a while.

Saved Prior: None Off Rip: Deee-Lite Theme, Good Beat, Smile On Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: Pretty fun, especially when they get freaky with it. Low three.

Solid. Decent memories of early 90s rave stuff. The most famous track (Groove is in the Heart) probs my least favourite interestingly.

Bit out of tune, but the first few songs are quite fun. Then some tracks like smile on, ESP are a bit boring. Groove is in the heart is a classic of course!

Sympa mais casse pas des briques

Leuke albumhoes, hoge verwachtingen, geinig maar teveel van hetzelfde.

Lots of samples used from this album. Crazy to see how far back house music stretches. Not bad, but nothing to write home about either.

A few of these I liked, mostly not my thing though. I sure they worked well in a 90's club. The first half of the album was boring to me. The first song that caught my attention was "What is Love." "Groove is in the Heart" has nostolgic value for me, but also I feel like it's genuinely a standout song. I also liked "Who Was That" and "Build the Bridge."

I knew Groove is in the Heart but that’s it. The rest is early 90s dance in a nutshell. It’s ok.

nostalgia baby

It was alright. Some songs were good, some weren't. Groove Is In The Heart is a classic though. 3/5 stars.

Fun, but I eventually got bored of the repetitive rhythms and was waiting for the album to end. Would go back to this for a bit of energising. Liked it more than I thought I would.

Dull songs but interesting melodies. There's always something missing.

Surprised. Quite enjoyed this. Very of its time - 90s dance

There is a reason Groove is in the Heart has 110 million more streams than any other song on the album. Def caught lightning in the bottle there. The single song is enough to get it onto the list but not to get it higher than a 3

These guys were fun to watch on MTV back in the day. They had a cool black-light vibe, that stood out from the rest of the new wave pop at that time. Solid beat music, with the one stand out track “Groove is in the Heart”. Good background music or club tunes. Solid 3.

This was so fun! Definitely would dance to it. The beginning gets a 4+, maybe 3.5 overall.

3.5 nice album just missing a second stand out tune

listened next day due to super bowl. interesting old hip hop. gets better as it goes on

Not too bad, though "What is Love?" was creepy as shit

Groove is in the heart slaps. Everything else is solid, but seems like typical 90's hip-hop to the ears of this listener who, granted, is not well-versed in the genre.

hmm. tällä oli hetkensä, mutta sisältää myös ei-niin-hyviä 90 luvun juttuja.

90s proto-house music

Not a genre of music I generally listen to (unless I'm out dancing), but this had some good funky grooves. Definitely found myself moving to the beat. 3 stars.

Surprisingly enough, I liked some of this

Decent, sounds like oasis even though they were first

Fun dance music, but not my thing outside of that context.

so very early 90s! fun vocal work

it was fun to listen to, really cool textures

🤷🏿‍♀️I can’t give anything featuring Bootsy Collin’s, one star.

Aged poorly and I suspect wasn’t brilliantly cutting edge at the time. I do think ‘groove is in the heart’ is an alright song, but 1 alright song doesn’t make up for a remaining album of filler. ‘Good beat’ with its crappy “zumba zumba” lyrics or whatever it was was a little cringeworthy. That said, it wasn’t outright offensive to my ears, just all a bit crap. What a weird inclusion to this list.

Well, that album cover evokes severe distaste, it looks like the cast of one of those excessively jolly kids' TV shows. A whole album of dance music is usually a bit of a stretch to listen to, and this is no exception. I don't see this as a great album, though maybe some single tracks have value.

Didn’t find it interesting or engaging

Horribly dated. Even Q-Tip couldn't save this one.

rubbish

Fun in places and of course 'Groove is in the Heart' is a classic. Not something I'd go back to though.

Deee-lite's debut contains psychedelic, sample-heavy, house-adjacent dance music. The best tracks - the title track and "Groove Is In the Heart" - are bouncy and full of sounds. Overall though I can't help but feel that there is better house music out there, not just after this album's release but before as well. Many of these tracks are fairly simple, and not very energetic, containing pretty repetitive beats and accents. There are plenty of 80s house tracks that are more exciting. I do like the jazz flourishes when they pop up, but the vocals, like in most house, are disposable. While it's a fun album, there's better dance music, and while it likely sounded fresh at the time it feels a bit primitive today.

This was not a delight. I recognized that one song from the 90s and the rest was just some other nonsense version of it.

This is the worst rave I never went to. Why have an album when you have the same song over and over again and, in that song, all you do is repeat the same lyrics over and over again? I get that this is dance music, but that doesn’t mean it has to suck.

Not a style of music I listen to often or enjoy in general. My review is kinda worthless here

Радио Енерджи вайбс The cover is offensively bad

What if I don’t feel like dancing?

I found I liked the electronic elements but not the samples or the song lengths

90's dance music definitely isn't my style, so I wouldn't expect myself to like this. I still tried to subjectively listen to this and I genuinely don't get it. The beats are beyond simple, super repetitive and the quirkiness just comes off a bit cliche. Not my thing.

I threw this album on when I first woke up and started going about our morning routine. The first song was actually pleasantly surprising, but it quickly devolved into boring dance music. Luckily, it faded into the background as I emptied the dishwasher, made breakfast, and made coffee. Unfortunately, it was still boring dance music when we sat down to eat. While I didn’t fully hate it, I think I may have if I was actually paying full attention to it the whole time. I do have to give it props for the most 90s album cover I’ve ever seen.

'Groove is in the heart' is so much better than the other songs.

I had an impulse to dance a couple times, but for listening? No. Just no.

Very bland, cheesy 90s dance music without much going for it. There’s a song or two that maybe I’d revisit, or at least not skip if they show up in a playlist, but most of this I wouldn’t want to hear again.

One banger and the rest is pretty forgettable

"Classic" 90's album with one banger then songs you'll never want to listen to again.

Okay, so I have heard of Groove is in the Heart before, but the rest of the songs are a bit alright just for a background listen. I would say that these are nice for a background listen, but they're a bit too repetitive and generic-sounding for a proper listen. Overall, not too bad, it's okay.

Heard it before. Groove Is in the Heart is a banger, obviously. I feel like the rest of the album has some nice tunes too but at the same time I'm not too impressed? 2/5

Surprisingly dull grooves

A few tracks bring back memories, but this is DEFINITELY not an essential album for me.

Not really that memorable. Pretty standard dance album, with a big hit. Wouldn't see myself turning to this tbh. 'Groove is in the Heart' is by far a stand-out here, so it holds merit for that reason. But required listening for this album? I would say no. I do like a good beat tho. Fav Track: Groove is in the Heart

This isn't even possible lol.

Fun album with many fun groovy songs!! Iconic

🌕🌕🌗🌑🌑, rounded down to decrease nuance Another evil rating from me because, though the groove is in my heart and always has been, I was once again a little let down by the expectations set by the famous title track. The production is literally boiling over with joy and layered like a De La song on "Groove is in the Heart," and while there's plenty of hints to be had across the rest of the album, it's really just 90s dance loops—"Good Beat" isn't false advertising when it's the second song, but after forty minutes, the beat starts to feel a little less good. Like Parliament, maybe this hits better at the clerb and not overstimulated on the smelly RTD with a kid yankin ya hair. Nothing can bring down my deee-lite for "Groove Is In The Heart" itself but it shall remain a matchless paragon. 1: Bad | 2: Okay, No Desire to Revisit | 3: Good, Conditionally (OR Inconsistent Mix of Qualities | 4: Great (OR Technically amazing but missing the sauce emotionally) | 5: Amazing

No idea how this made the list. The most boring electronic album I've heard. No jarring or harsh sounds but zero interesting elements

a fun but flawed album. feels way too long and the songs dont have much variation to feel like theres a lot of substance here. wasnt a huge fan of this 5/10 Favourite: None Least Favourite: What is Love?

Mäßiger Acid der 90er. Wie früher - Skip ich Raum und Album.

This was released in 1990? Sounds like it's 15 years behind the times. Groove is in the Heart is a banger but other than that I don't see this album as significant. 2/5.

The massive hit "Groove Is In The Heart" is down at track 9 on the album. I was bored well before then, and couldn't even bring myself to persevere through the whole of track 8 to get to it.

I wish for a succotash as a supper dish.

Fun pop but nothing memorable

I enjoyed this in the way that an archaeologist probably enjoys uncovering a 6,000 year old mummified cat shit. It's a very strange bridge between 80s and 90s pop that feels like it should only exist in VHS workout tapes.

Rating: 3/10 I didn't like it. One hit wonder band and there wasn't a single song I really cared for honestly. It's adventurous and tries to be fun but it's not for me

The only good song on this album was “Groove Is In The Heart”. The band needed more guest artists on the album. The good thing about getting this album is that I ended up checking out DJ Towa Tei’s solo albums and they’re pretty good.

so i tried it, but i would say its not my kinda music. sounds like something that i would hear in some 80s-90s cafe. i think so

Painfully of its time. Almost feels nostalgic even tho I have never heard it before. Groove is in the heart is a banger tho

Apart from the one big hit. I’m not sure why this is included on thei list tbh

Yeah, no

Probably one of the more extreme examples of one-hit wonder I've come across on the list. When Groove is in the Heart came on, it felt like a passing rain shower in the middle of a drought. I thought I could've bumped it to a 3 after that, but I spent the remainder of the album just hoping it'd be over.

Groove is in the heart er klart det bedste nummer. Ret cool at dem at få en gæsterapper på det nummer så mange år før det blev populært at have gæsterappere på popsange, endnu mere cool at det er Q-Tip for The Low End Theory overhovedet kom ud

weird and a little funky. Not my thing. Feels very 90s in the bad way.

Groove Is In The Heart is pretty much the only reason this isn't a 1/5.

A 2 just for Groove Is In The Heart. Otherwise, it was just meh.

1.5 stars I typically listen to every album I get on here because I don’t assume my opinion will say the same no matter how much I’ve listened to an album. But I made an exception here. I bought a used CD of this album a few years back because I love the song “Groove is in the Heart.” I played the album in its entirety over and over. Not because it was great, but because it was in my car and I kept running through it. The album is fine enough. It’s dated as hell, it’s obnoxious, it’s at time fun and other times annoying. It’s catchy at times and hard to listen to at others. But it all boils down to not being a very special record that doesn’t need to be on this list. I’ve listened to this album more than I’ve listened to all of Miles Davis’s albums combined. So no, I didn’t need to listen to it again. But “Groove is in the Heart” is still a jam.

Sorry sorry, there was nothing here. Even the catchiest songs flitted away.

Never listened. Expectations: None - Verdict: Not For Me - I'm not a fan a few tracks in. Not hugely keen on the vocal for the most part. Some grooves are ok, with What Is Love? probably being my favourite.

Really sounds like a canned band designed by an ad agency hired by a happiness foundation.

Groove Is in the Heart isn't a good enough reason for me to listen to this. After hearing the song World Clique, I knew I couldn't rate this album higher than 2. This entire album feels like music that would be written for a fictional band within a 90s sitcom. It's almost good, but just doesn't quite get there.

Groove… is awesome but otherwise sounds dated.

leichte kost.

90s galore! It’s an aesthetic of the time, but too low effort for me, especially if it’s more than one track after each other…

I was surprised to see this on the list. I always thought Deee-Lite were just a one-hit wonder, so I went into this hoping for more strong tracks like Groove Is in the Heart. Unfortunately, there weren’t any. This was pretty poor house music, made worse by bad melodies and lyrics. Groove Is in the Heart is the one saving grace amongst this mess.

I like this a bit more now than the hate i felt 30 years ago. Is that Hate-Lite.

Nja... Allt låter samma? Groove is in the heart är såklart en standout. Kan dock tycka att det är liiiite coolt att albumet är från 1990 och låter ganska modernt ändå? Men musiken är lite för trist för mig, tycker inte det håller för ett helt album tyvärr.

polka dot and plaid

Is it good? No. Is it kinda fun? Yes.

Svårt att betygsätta. Inte dåligt men inte heller min grej.

Used up all its skill points on being fun with none left over to put towards being good.

Sounded better at the clubs in The 90’s than it did on my stereo.

Not my cup of tea

Another one-hit wonder. Groove is in the Heart was a smash and a great song, but do I need to listen to the album before I die? There really isn't anything else here to write home about. I gave several of the other one'rs a 2*, but now I have to come up with a 4*. Hmm. This is a 2* album that should be replaced with Rusted Root's When I Woke, which is a 4*. In addition to the smash hit, RR keeps the vibe going throughout the album, and there are a couple more hits (or at least songs you'd recognize) on there. Plus, Send Me On My Way is far more ubiquitous than Groove, and I like the album much more.

Monesta biisistä oikein hienoja sämplejä biitteihin. Mutta sitten on näitä syntikkameininkejä jotka ei silleen iske.

After Deee-Lite Theme I was like: oi! intentionally kitsh funky house beats, sure I'm down for that, as long as it's groovy you know, but holy cannoli Luigi I feel done with this almost immediately as the second song starts. Looking foward to Groove Is in the Heart, I'm curious, it's their big song! If I get one great song out off this, it'll be worth it! It wasn't!

Not my jam, although Groove was pretty cool.

Album No. 0146 on my list. I truly had no idea what I was getting into here. I had never heard of either "World Clique" or Deee-Lite at all, so I had no idea what this would be. The cover looked a bit odd, but in the early 90s a younger audience might actually have found this quite cool I guess. Well, what can I say? I didn't like this album. It is not completely bad, but I found it pretty dull and boring. Generic late 80s/early 90s EDM, boring, mainstream oriented lyrics, I dunno. It's just not my cup of tea I guess. I think I get the appeal that the album may have had at the time, but maybe it just has not aged very well. I didn't even find it that catchy. If I had to mention some positive things, I'd say that I like the singing style on some songs, and the album does represent a positive vibe overall, which I appreciate. I'll add "Good Beat", and "Groove Is In The Heart" to my playlist. 2/5 stars.

The front cover made me think ‘what if mr tumble had a hip hop group’. When you look deeper you just begin to see a massive out of date label, and that’s exactly how it sounds too

Maximum early 90s

Groove is in the hearth, pero no mucho en este disco.

Groove Is in the Heart is a jam. The rest...if I was in a dance mood, mayyyyybbbbeeee. But probably not. 2/5

Just okay

another baffling inclusion in this list, Deee-Lite has more e's than it has great songs, in fact 3 more

One mediocre song

Its fun enough, went by very quickly, but its early 90s house music.

I feel i awarded this unfairly cos im full of cold. That said who wants deee-lite at 7am on a wet and windy January, when you are full of cold

Maybe being a bit unfair. Doest help when playing it at work. Just couldn't be arsed with this one.

Blew the budget on their big single. The musical equivalent of a jazzle sweet, looks fun on the surface but it’s ultimately a bit naff and unsatisfying.

strong 2

"Groove is in the Heart" is good. The rest of the album is a nonfactor. Will lose nothing by not listening to it.

One hit wonder defined

I enjoyed this more than expected when I saw the album. Some funky songs that I didn't hate, and some forgettable ones. Solid 2.5/5.

Megahitti on mainio mutta muuten vähän tylsäks käy! 2/5

It took me SO LONG to recall what I listened to yesterday. Clearly this did not make much of an impression on me. 90s electronic/dance/whatever doesn’t really do it for me. Groove is in the Heart is fun, but the rest feels like filler.

I didn’t recognize the group and didn’t read up on them before listening. Started off very disco-ish and the definitely switched to dance music - both not my genres. I did like a few parts of the album where the the members of Parliament/Funkadelic music came through! Also "Groove Is in the Heart" was fine.

POV: it’s Wednesday night at the local roller skating rink that’s been on the verge of closing for a decade. The smell of mold emits from the ceilings. The musty carpets are fuming. This has to be a meme right? One hit wonder core. I can’t.

didn’t mind it but not as good as i was expecting given the hit song on the album
