Not for me

Folky singer song writer vibes throughout. Desolate feel throughout the album IMO.

Very bleh for me personally

This is not bad. But it is also not very interesting. 2.5

Nothing to suggest I wouldn't like this, until she started singing and my god, I was bored stiff. A little bit too twee for me

Pleasant enough country pop but far too easy listening for my tastes I'm afraid

Cardinal Sin. Did not finish.

Not mine but maybe something for you

Musically proficient but slow and soulless

This was the most bland country folk album I've had yet. Not offensive to the ears (for the most part) but I got nothing out of this. At least it went by quickly, apart from the last song being like 14 minutes long.

Aburrido. No me interesa

Nah, I did't like this one. Sorry Gillian.

Too sombre and one paced for me

A fine alt country/bluegrass early 2000s album with decent lyrics. Nonetheless, it didn't move me that much compared to the many other genres the generator gives you. The 14 minute extended bluegrass song at the end was also cool to listen to.

Just found it a bit dull, this type of slow country music isn't my thing at all, nothing on the music, just not my thing.

This was not much to write home about, but it did lead me down a wormhole which ended with ‘Mermaid Avenue’ by Billy Bragg and Wilco which I don’t think will be on this list, but really ought to be.

- A bit too slow and acoustic for my taste - Revelator gives Crosby, Stills, Nash vibes, I like the minor key - Would fit well in Fallout

Some good vocal harmonies, but a whole album of just singing and acoustic guitar gets boring fast

the references to folk song canon are annoying. there are too many songs about being a musician. Berklee college straight to Nashville is a very boring way to make folk music. it's not very nice to call my birthday ""'ruination day'"". music: hated. (⌐■_■)

Wanted to like it, but I didn’t really.

Day 13/14 — Gillian Welch — Time (The Revelator) (2001) Listened: Mar 8–9, 2026 Genre: Americana / Folk / Alternative Country Vibe: Stark, sparse, literary — two guitars and two voices painting dark American portraits Highlights: • Revelator • I Dream a Highway Impression: Lyric driven folk that grows each listen. Not my favorite. Rating: 2.2/5 Keep songs? Yes Revisit album? Maybe

The Good: We are getting things revealed! The Bad: It’s not what I was hoping for… The Ugly: The fucking seat… horrid… Right, modern country, sung by a NYC/LA raised “hillbilly”… not that there’s anything wrong with that, kinda… However, for me, it’s like listening to Billy Joe Armstrong pretend like he’s a pissed-off lad in 1970s UK punk scene… sk8tr boi… Anyway, not my thing, this musicality. If I have to listen to something like this, then give me the true Apalaccian queen of Dolly P, so that I can at least be a filthy bastard and admire how she would fill out that flowery dress… Sue me… not happy with my string of bad luck albums as we currently have had 12 in a row that I’ve scored 2* or lower… except for that album 2 days ago, by Siouxsie, which I am going to play again now and hopefully rate with a 4* to get out of this rut… 2*

I struggled to get through this. Rating: Yeehaw/5

I loved Gillian's voice here. Dear Someone is an adorable song! I'm happy that the Country enjoyers get an album like this, which to be fair is some of the most beautiful stuff I've heard in the genre. Unfortunately the yeehaw tinges are still too much for me, and as beautiful as the singing may be, I don't get anything out of these 4, 6, even *14* minute-long slow folk songs. Sorry! Standout: Dear Someone

This is so boring. So. Boring. 2/5

Country mixed with folk = if you listen carefully you can hear both the cowboy hats and hairy armpits

the bad part of folk music.

Boring and derivative. For a songwriter's album I would expect more than clichés, here they are all in attendance. The only honest song to me is the Elvis one, and it's not even interesting. Horrible, no, worth listening to, no

A beautiful album, just not sure it develops music in any way 2 - a good album just not my thing

Eli tuollaista hidasta mandoliini ja nainen, tyyppistä kantria. Ihan mukava

I enjoy acoustic guitar and folk music, but I really didn't care for this album. Welch's voice is relatively pleasant, but she doesn't really ever stretch it and the album generally slogs along as a result. This is also true of the songs as well which aren't very challenging. They generally stay centered and that leads to an overall boring feel throughout this record. Just nothing terribly interesting in any of the tracks.

Kinda boring

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Didnt do mutch for me. Its okay to listen to but kind of too repetitive for me

One song of this americana singer songwriter country adjecent music is fine. I dont wanna listen to an hour of this though. 3/10

I guess, it was not the worst country album on here, but absolutely nothing remarkable about it. Don't get why this is on the list. It's just another random country album. 5/10

Not a huge fan, a bit too twangy and annoying at times.

started off ok with the first couple of songs but then just became a drag of standard country dirge.

Not for me.

un poco aburrido la neta

Unfortunately quite boring. The only song that stood out to me was the Elvis one.

2 weird country, not my kind of music

Not terrible, just not really my thing.

slow c&w, yawn

After the first track I thought I was settling into a decent modern country record, but as this went on each track decided it wanted to sound like a different era of country, which felt disjointed.

Whenever I rate lyrics, I think about one thing - could I write this? I'm not good with words, so if the answer is "yes", then the lyric is probably trash. Now, could I write "time's the revelator"? Easily. If I knew the word, but yeah, easily. But could I write "Every time it rains, it rains"? No fucking chance I guess that settles it Well, the songs that weren't country were alright

Another album that’s no where near my usual tastes. The more I listened the less I was interested in it, 2 stars.

Eh, it’s fine. I like her voice but I’m just not a slow country/slow bluegrass person.

Slow country is boring.

This is exactly what I don’t like

No, Gillian.

I was kind of looking forward to listening to this one and the first song was pretty nice. This album got boring real quick though, I really had to fight falling asleep. 50 minutes isn't long but there's almost no variety and every song is about 1 or 2 minutes longer than it needs to be. There was an applause somewhere in the middle, the rest of the album is really forgettable. Perhaps I would've liked it more another time, but this wasn't it. I guess it's nice that it's an old school country album.

Wasn’t minding it too much as a folky album but it just felt so repetitive after a while. 2 star rating got locked in with the final 14 minute song

Not for me

Well this isn't for me, but I'm sure there's some pretentious music journo that will inform me I lack the necessary to appreciate the banjo. Heard before ❌️ Listened this time ✅️ Revisit ❌️ Nope ★★☆☆☆ (4/10)

Kind of meh. All songs similar

Dreary

Welcome to background coffee shop music vol 19

Meh. 1.9

Yeah this got old about two songs in. Not my thing 2/5

Bof bof

on ronfle

A bit too country for me. Some pretty songs on here though.

*2001. Country. *I wanted to like this, but I just don’t. *This is a throw back to old country ala patsy cline and Loretta Lynn, which is pretty cool, but it just didn’t do anything for me. RATING - 6/10

I appreciate it...but like it?

Boring AF 2/5

Gillian Welch has a charming voice. I especially enjoyed 'Revelator' and 'I Dream a Highway'. The lyricism on the latter specifically was beautiful. That being said, most of the album was just okay for me. I wouldn't mind hearing it somewhere, but I probably would not think to listen to it myself.

More country

A little too soft and quiet to grab me.

Nice album really but a bit too country to match my vibe right now

One banger, lots of snoozers

Its a nice album very similar all songs good songwriting but too country for my taste

This was fine. Good singer and some interesting songs but I don't think I'd return to it.

Loved revelator thought this was going to really surprise me then it was just bland from then on

Mehhhh, a little too slow in country for my liking. Good music, but not my cup of tea. Two star stars.

Didn’t like this very much. A bit too slow and repetitive.

I did not find this to be the most enjoyable, it felt samey and a bit boring nearer the end. High 2/5

2 stars.

Not something I would choose to listen to on a normal day but it neither terrible nor memorable. Added to Library: Everything is Free

This is not bad music at all, but the 'slow guitar music to fall asleep to' genre is really not for me.

Boring country music 1,5/5

Nice voice, but a strange selection of songs that she for some reason has decided to sing at a dirge-like tempo. I guess that a really depressed Americana music fan might get something out of this.

Another 2 star I'm just not a fan of the vibe personally but ig the lyrics are nice

Deserves to be on the list but it isn't for me

Nothing special, I don’t get the hype

Why is she whining for so long??? Disappointing from her.

This album tried to put me to sleep. It wasn't terrible, but it was not for me.

Hated this

who cares

Time (the waster) Gillian Squelch (sound of me standing on a BUG)

Im not sure if i liked it, kinda hard to get through

Everything Is Free // I Dream a Highway

Ok sound

I really didn't understand this one. Nice voice but such dull, plodding music.

not my cup of tea

Slow music, not my thing.

Just a gal and her guitar, singing about first loves, and Elvis Presley. Very slow, very boring.

I liked the couple of songs that had some stomp to them, but besides that, it kind of felt like regular folk music. Not too sure what might differentiate it from another folk artist, to be honest. I suppose it’s personal connection to the lyrics. Not for me, but I’m sure fans of folk will enjoy it.

I don't know how to call this album, but most of the songs sound the same (if not every single one of them). If it had more personality of its own I would have liked it more, but that folk-county based on long, boring and repetitive songs is not something I'm into. What I liked the most are some instrumentals, which are delicious. I understand it's more of a lyrical album, but if the songs are bland, I just can't focus on anything else than... when is "I Dream a Highway" going to end? Really, its length is unjustified, it's the same melody on repeat for over a quarter of hour.

i really wish i liked this more but its so dull imo it’s putting me to sleep and not in a good way

Not for me

I'd give it a 2.5

I do not understand why this album is so critically acclaimed. It's very dull. Most of the songs are the same downtrodden music and lyrics, and once you think you've finally made it to the end there's a 16 minute song that seems to go on forever. There's much better early 2000s country than this, and I'm sure there's much better alternative country folk than this too. I was listening to this while on a long drive and kept thinking, "I would hate for this to be the last album I was listening to if I got into a car wreck." So basically the antithesis of the point of this list.

Fine, but I also almost fell asleep listening to it.

Not my genre. The first song and April 14th were my favorites and I wish the rest of the album had more of those types of songs. The rest sounded like they came out of the brown hymnal.

Started strong, but got a little bland and ran out of steam by the end. More folk-rock than country in my opinion, which is a good thing I feel. I quite enjoyed some parts, but ultimately I feel it didn't do quite enough to rise above 2 stars.

This is one of those albums which reminds me just how US- and UK-biased this list is. It's really hard to imagine a non-American caring about this album and its tedious country stylings at all. If this album had not been part of this project, I would have instantly skipped it, and lyrics like "when the Great Emanicpator took a bullet in the back" and "I want to shake my Saviour's hand" are just so ultra-American. I might have heard My First Lover before, it sounds familiar, and I can also recognise / appreciate the folk influence on the lyrics and the country influence on the banjo. On the other hand, what business does the final track I Dream A Highway have being nearly FIFTEEN minutes long?!

379/1001 🌕🌕🌑🌑🌑

Not great for me. It started out ok in the sense I thought the songwriting was decent, but just not for me, but by the end it got repetitive and felt very long. 2/5

In general it was cool with the classic country bluegrass sound and some nice, rich elements to it...however. That last song was like a horse tranquilizer and there is NO REASON it needed to be 15 minutes long, taking a full point off for that nonsense. Disappointed that I didn't like this as much as I hoped I would because this genre is sort of in my wheelhouse

No, sorry. I don't like this. Her voice is nice, the guitar is simple, but effective. My problem is the harmonies. I can't stand country harmonies, they irritate my ears. Something about the harmonics. Anyway, I also find it slow and dull. But pretty. To each his own though.

# Album Name: Time (The Revelator) # Artist: Gillian Welch # Rating: 2/5 # Comments: Alright for 1-2 songs. But it gets boring quite quickly imo. Definitely couldnt sit through it for nearly an hour. Theres some good guitar picking and vocals on the album though. # Top Tunes: Everything is free / revelator # Would I listen to it again? No

I'm sure this appeals to some, and I am open to it being on the list, even if I don't get it. This was painful. Had some country (strike 1) was slow paced (strike 2) and after a while, became an irritant (strike 3). I'd go with a 1, but can't because there's talent, just not talent that I appreciate.

2 - somber country. Got a bit boring

Revelator 2.8 My First Lover 2.4 Dear Someone 2.3 Red Clay Halo 2.4 April the 14th Part 1 2.1 I Want to Sing That Rock and Roll 2.7 Elvis Presley Blues 2.6 Ruination Day Part 2 2.2 Everything Is Free 2 I Dream a Highway 1.8 Score: 2.33

Listened Before? N Pretty decent alt-country. Didn't really stand out much and a lot of the songs felt same-y to me. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Everything Is Free

Not for me, but nice background music if you’re 50-50 on country

Arguable good music but not to my taste unfortunately.

Each song is actually slightly unbearable. I found myself wondering when the songs would end. If this is country music I don't want it!

BORING

Did nothing for me 2

It’s pleasant enough, and she is certainly talented. But it’s kind of a snooze fest. Not a lot of dynamism or energy.

She mumbles, sings like a slide guitar, has so many dissonant tones, all the sings sound the same, and her lyrics are boring. There's a song that could be about the Titanic but it’s just about some stoners she sees in Idaho or some shit.

I wasnt a fan of this one. Not my style of music- hokey, quiet, and a lot of the songs sounded similar. Welch's voice was nice. Overall- fine, but not for me

What can I say? I understand this is supposed to be a landmark album but there wasn’t a moment that caught my attention.

promising but never lifts off and dunks into the abyss of country cheese

country music sucks. 2/5.

Not particularly great... two stars

It was okay, but after half of the album I thought it would end soon but no. It was okay at best.

Meh, not my genre

This was nice, but not a ton of variety in tone or “vibe” on each song

Really disappointed in this one. Had much higher hopes because I like her. But this is the slowest played collection of songs I’ve ever heard. I could fall asleep during any one of them. And I thought she might during a couple of them.

really note my vibe but there was some beauty in some of this

Lame country, can't get used to it.

Whatever Gillian is awkwardly glancing at off-screen on the album cover is probably infinitely more interesting than a single note of music on this dreary, booooring album.

If you're feeling a certain kind of way and need almost an hour of plaintive, downtempo two-piece folk music, here ya go. Otherwise, move along. A little variation from song to song would have gone a long way towards keeping my attention.

Just not my thing

She has a great voice but it’s a bit sparse production and lacks a hook to keep me engaged

Good voice, seems heartfelt, I can see why some people would like it a lot. Didn't hear a lot that felt unique or new. Doubt I'd relisten.

Right away, great voice. Nothing popped for me. It was all fine enough. I hoped something would hit the bluegrass sweet spot. Never did. It didn't really do anything to make it required listening. Also quite a few tracks that are a bit too long.

Gillian has a good voice, but this is not really my kind of thing. The album feels a bit generic and I am not sure why it made the list

Enjoyed the first two tracks but by track 4 I’d had enough.

Ugh, more country music.

It's a pleasant Friday evening, you're settled on the sofa with a glass of wine watching Later with Jools Holland. Gillian Welch comes on, does a few songs, it's lovely. You decide to buy her album. You play it once, then forget about it. Until one day it surprisingly pops up in this 1001 list, and it makes you think... is Later with Jools Holland still on the telly?

2/25/25. Pretty soothing country/americana. Decent.

Acoustic guitars With a slight twang, steady voice With time on its mind

Not my taste

13/02/25 I can appreciate the talent, it was just too boring.

Boring, dreary, dull, dull, dull, depressingly dull

i get the appeal and appreciate the artistry but i just don’t love this kinda stuff. just a little bit too slow and boring for me

Just really not my genre, seems good for what it is Will I listen to again: 0%

Beige as fuck, no more of this you stupid fucking book

Some of the country blues numbers were great. Bit downbeat in places . Ballads were a little pedestrian.

Low energy, monotonous vocals accompanied by various strings including some plucking on a banjo, an instrument which belongs in the dumpster on top of the accordion - ask any bluegrasser. Pretty awful, but I pushed on through it.

Not really a fan of banjos.

only so so

I'm sorry, but I have to give this a low rating. It just didn't do anything for me, and even for a time when I cleared my mind to be open to soft, slow, singer/songwriter Americana vibes. But the album low-key sucked. It was slow and forgetful and kinda doesn't deserve to be on this list in my humble opinion. Maybe one or two songs were chill and listenable, but as a whole album I hate to say that it sucks.

With the first song I was initially optimistic this may provide something different to get into but the longer it went on the more bored I got. Not offensive but not interesting either.

I think it’s quite remarkable how an album can be really quite pleasant and yet really quite dull at the same time. So hats off to them for pulling off that trick.

2/5 (pretty but not my cup of tea)

Nudne muzycznie i słabe tekstowo. Słabe 2

Pretty middle of the road Blue Grass. She's got a nice voice, but not sure why it's required listening. I wouldn't pick it up again.

Initially this didn’t do much for me, but I did find it somewhat more enjoyable on a second listen…except for album closer ‘I Dream A Highway’. That sucked both times. At 14 minutes it was way too long for me to care.

Beautiful singing, boring songs. Sorry, but no, I really don't like these country songs. They just go on and on(in a negative sense) and seem to have no ending, which makes you let out a sigh and say, " Thank God it is over." 1.5/5 for her beautiful voice; other than that, there is nothing distinguishable in this album, just some regular country music you can find anywhere.

Alternative Country: I preferred the "Alternative" tracks to those that were more "Country".

Pleasant but just too much of the same slow acoustic style.

Not my style.

I saw the album cover and I went "oh no", started listening, "oh no", and things did not improve. This is VERY country and I did not like it, although I did try to relax into it and appreciate it for what it was. There is strong talent here and the songs were good, but unfortunately this kind of music gets on my nerves.

I almost liked it in the first song, but then it was almost a loop of the same song for almost one hour!

Singer-Songwriter and Country. Probably two of my least favorite genres but we'll see! This was a snoozer for me. Liked some of the guitar in some songs but most of it was boring as hell. I did really like Dream a Highway but it was still just a bit too long. Could see this being cool to see in person in the right setting though.

I question the placement of this particular album on the list, because it sounds about as "typical" as you can get of a genre (in this case, of southern/country acoustic music). There's nothing groundbreaking, not much even interesting, on here – though that's not to say it's an unpleasant listen. Welch plays it very safe on Time (The Revelator), incorporating soft textures through her acoustic guitar and drawling vocals. This sound works best when leaning into the blues sound (e.g. "blue" notes, 12-bar patterns), but Welch doesn't do this in many tracks. Elvis Presley Blues is a highlight, as is Revelator for its solid execution of a guitar ballad with a catchy vocal hook. Otherwise, there's isn't much to say. Most of the album is unmemorable and doesn't push any musical boundaries. There's not much in the way of album flow, of ups and downs, of any sort of emotional journey. (In fact, there isn't much noticeable emotion at all – but that complaint can be made for a sizeable number of great albums, so I'll leave it to rest.) 2/5 Key tracks: Revelator, Elvis Presley Blues, Everything Is Free

not really my type of music but i do think it is quite calming and i quite liked revelator.

Hmm.. boring hillbilly stuff

A little whiney.

This is a good, slow and soft album. Not my cup of whiskey usually but for a drive in to work it fit well. It's like the country-folk version of Joni Mitchell Blue but wahaaay better. I know of Rawlings who collabed on this but never heard of Welch prior. I would put this on again by a nice late night bon fire or try and catch at a local pub. Surprised me with a 2.3 star rating.

It all sounds the same

Did not finish it

This album felt so long. It’s not bad but there’s nothing truly exciting either. The closing 14-minute song felt like an eternity. It was just like all the rest of the songs but endlessly long. 2.5 stars.

Bluegrass has never been a thing for me. It’s not that I dislike or like, it’s just I have very little experience or context for what is good or bad. I enjoyed listening to this album but it was very mellow. It elicited sitting on a porch drinking sweet tea with a little somethin’ something’ in it and watching the dragonflies go by. I liked the harmony soul of Dear Someone and hearing her Elvis drawl on Elvis Presley Blues. It was a pleasant listen overall but I don’t know how to rank it.

Dull while mostly not being annoying. Until the last song.

Gill has a nice voice. Not my style of music, but not horrible.

Cool name for an album but not my thing so much

Country music that didn't make me want claw my ears off. Mostly. I enjoyed the first couple of tracks. I thought I might be in for an udiscovered gem ... but it settled down into a pretty non desccript capret of softness.

Didn’t click

It’s not for me, I was very bored. I guess there’s an audience for this?

Reserved, uneventful, tepid

I can see why it is considered a good album. I just wasn't feeling it at the time possibly...

Great voice but the arrangements didn't move me. Seems like original mountain music played bare bones. Has it's worth but wouldn't be my choice

ok, but too country

I didn’t care for this so much. Her voice is alright but I got lost in a lot of the songs

I will give it 2 stars because she wasn't overwhelmingly whiney on the majority of her songs.

I think there’s some strong songwriting on display. But the songs themselves all sorta sound the same. It’s a perfectly fine listen but I doubt I’ll ever come back to this. 2.5/5

Too country. It's listed in Apple Music as singer/songwriter, but as the album goes on, the twang gets unbearable. I think she has a good voice, and the songs that don't lean country aren't awful - I could listen to them as background noise in a coffee shop. I'll give it 2 stars, because I'm fair.

Okey laid back country. Not bad but nothing i will remember

This album is the opposite of a cup of coffee. For a singer songwriter album it’s not terrible but it just was really slow and had me struggling to stay awake. A second listen definitely helped as it is a decently written album with a good country style that isn’t as common anymore. Overall I wouldn’t revisit this unless I needed a nap. 4.9/10

Christ this was dull. Well put together, but so beholden to the past. I'd rather have had an album from the time it apes than this dull retromania.

5/10 Starts of ok, but just gets slower and slower and is way too long.

sad yeehaw time, but not in a bad way. perfectly neutral. 2.5

Ugh idk about this lady.

Man, Americana music just ain't for me. I dig Bluegrass (this ain't it), but this stuff is so slow and drawn out that I can't find any joy listening to it. I'm sure there's a mood that would lend itself to this symphony of depression, but I can't imagine the situation I would have to be in to listen to this on purpose.

This album is very stripped down, mostly just acoustic guitar & vocals. There are a few moments when the sound is more built up with additional instruments & backing vocals and I feel this elevates her voice somewhat. It's nice enough but nothing on here really excites me. 2+ stars. (If anyone enjoys this album then you should check out Laura Cantrell's 'Not the Tremblin' Kind'. Similar to this but better IMHO.)

I only listened to 2/3 of the album. It was fine, I guess, but I didn’t connect with it at all.

Nothing special

Not really my jam, but I appreciate the quality

Time (The Revelator) is pleasant enough, stripped back production to accentuate the style and the voice, but another 2/5 piece of nothingness that doesn't belong on the list. Sixth album in a row where that's the case, the price to pay for having Adele right before that.

Another underwhelming album, and we're closing in on a whole week of straight 2s. This is stripped back singer/songwriter stuff, the singing is fine but unremarkable, the songwriting is fine but unremarkable. Not particularly strikingly arranged, doesn't make you sit up and listen at any point, just dinner party music. 2/5.

I find it hard to see how this record or even artist should be exceptional in any way. She sounds pleasant enough, but also exactly like a thousand other singers in this genre. Lyrics are okay and seem honest, but it also doesn't seem like she has anything important to say. Guitar work sounds good, but doesn't stand out in any way. This is okay background music, but how anyone could sit down and enjoy this as a favorite record beats me.

noioso

Fine but not really into it

Fine, but not leaving much of a footprint

I wasn't that fussed about this. It quickly faded into background music. It wasn't bad but there wasn't much variety

Painfully boring and forgettable. She's lucky she has such a lovely voice, I *really* want to give this album a 1 and that's the only thing stopping me.

Not for me

Eh, it was ok but nothing I’d consider epic or noteworthy. I’d rather listen to this more than pop music and modern rap music, but don’t think I’d ever pick this album up for a listen ever again.

Rating: 5/10 Revelator was amazing, the guitar had so much melody, dynamic, and rhythm. My First Lover and Red Clay Halo were both fun songs, really enjoyed the banjo playing and bluegrass elements she incorporated. The rest of the album is very boring, not interesting instrumentally whatsoever and vocally decent but nothing special.

We have another artist today that I’ve never come across before - Gillian Welch. Do you reckon it’s a soft G like Gillian Anderson, or a hard G like Gillian Jacobs? You can always rely on me to ask the hard hitting questions. Anyway, let’s listen! Songs I already knew: none Favourites: Revelator, Dear Someone This started off as a pretty strong album for me. Acoustic singer songwriter music with introspective lyrics are usually bankable for me. However, shortly afterwards, the banjos started and the wailing began and it all got ruined by leaning too hard into country music. Don’t get me wrong, there is some country music that I don’t mind, but this isn’t it. There are some good songs here, but not many.

The songs are pretty and slow. I don't dislike old timey bluegrass music. It's not bad, but I can't really say that I like any of the songs. Nothing really grabs me.

Not into it

Langweilig

redneck music for above 100iq feminists Significant 41/129 Liked 20/129 Added 5/129 NNN

Its pleasant as far as folk/country goes, but its not my thing. I also can't tell if her voice is autotunned or if she's just layered her vocals twice, but its very noticeable at times. Not my jam however

It was decent but again, not quite my genre of music.

Harmless background. Not keen on Jesus bit!

Wanted to like it but switched off after a few songs, not really a fan of this genre

stille folk, god vokal

If you like this kind of folk music, I suppose the album is fine. The music kind of flows along withouth any highs or lows. For me not interesting.

To country folkie for me.

Lovely voice and lovely instruments but just not for me

uh no thank you it’s just not it

I'm sure a lot of folks enjoy this type and style of music, but it really did nothing for me. Yes, talented. Yes, pretty good voice and yes, she wrote a song called Elvis Presley Blues. But I found this to be pretty boring. I got excited when I heard Steve Miller. There really is a song by him called Quicksilver Girl. And much like this album, was really kinda slow and boring. In the end, the 2 biggest stand outs were Elvis and in the song April the 14th, there's a line about sweeping up the cigarettes, but uses a very old phrase that would get you in trouble today. That's it. All I got. 2

Ok. A bit dull and grating. Gillian needs to cheer up a bit.

I really wanted to like this. She is clearly very talented. I found myself getting bored, and the nearly 15 minute closer didn’t help that. I liked the songs Red Clay Halo and I Want To Sing That Rock And Roll.

I didn't listen to all of it because I got distracted but it wasn't bad and would probably get a higher score if I was working and actually listened. I did think it was a bit grating tho

The only reason this isn't a 1 is because I Want To Sing That Rock And Roll is a good song

Good lord. Slow and boring. The last one that was almost 15 mins was unnecessary. Could have tied that up in 3 mins. I appreciated some of the nice harmonies and singing but this didn't capture me

Started off somewhat interesting, but the ending few songs and the last 15 min slow, trailing, end killed any enjoyment. Fav tracks: Revelator, Ruination Day Part 2

country / folk. please stop it. 4/10

Not a big fan.

Could not stand this I get it’s not for me.

Can’t say I really enjoyed this album. I can see the appeal but not really something I’d listen to again

Country gewauwel en irritante teksten. Niet voor mij.

Listened to the whole thing and can't recall a single note. It's not for me.

What a depressing discordant sound.

Much too slow for my liking, not exactly sure why it's actually on this list, although I wasn't begging it to end, just not a fan

Too country for my tastes

Beautiful voice and harmonies and guitars. A lot of people try to do this and Gillian Welch does it very well. This kind of music is more about the poetry of the words and sparse accompaniment, it's not my favorite sort of thing honestly. Very pleasant to listen to, but a sort of wallpaper music for many. It's so often the music people play in coffee shops while people talk over them, which bums me out.

I feel like I could like this album with repeated listens, but I’m sad to say I just found it pretty boring the first couple of times. I like the lyrical themes and how she ties some songs together with repeated motifs, but a lyric rarely stands out to me as clever or interesting. The music isn’t too compelling either for me, and some songs just blend together or go on too long.

She has a good voice, but this is some Starbucks-ass music. Fine if you’re trying to put a baby to sleep or something, but for me this is the musical equivalent of tasteful floral wallpaper. It’s pretty, it’s bland, it’s stuck in the past, it takes no risks, doesn’t have much character. Not my bag at all.

Soothing, calming voice, but nonetheless, not my cup of tea. 2.5/5.

Not really a country fan. I can enjoy a country song once in a while, but a full album bores the hell out of me. Musically, it may be good, but it doesn't get to me.

I wouldn’t mind any of these songs (even the 15-minute one) popping up in a playlist but I’m not gonna do all ten in a sitting again.

Ok folks music. it was pretty slow beat. Not work music but sings well.

Pretty average, alternative country is not my cup of tea at all. In my opinion no one needs to listen to 51 minutes of that at all. Best: My First Lover Worst: I Dream a Highway

No, not for me. I didn’t enjoy it at all

4/10. Normally not a country hater, but this felt like the musical equivalent of eating gruel. Maybe it's just because work is boring today.

Alt-country is such a boring genre. 4/10

Not terrible country. But still country.

I kind of figured seeing the fourteen minute song awaiting me at the end of this album that it'd make or break the album for me, but it didn't really affect my view of this album from the rest of the songs at all. I mean, it got tedious a little past the halfway mark, but it wasn't so annoying it pushed the album over to the one star. This is just an album full of little things I like, such as the guitar playing, or some of the more interesting chord progressions, but none of it really comes together for me. This doesn't feel like a congruent album to me, which stuff where songs sound decades old to newer more "sophisticated" country tunes, and even a random live(?) song. Perhaps this is just supposed to be a love letter to a bunch of commonplace country musician moments, but none of it left an impact. Don't hate this, but I certainly don't get it.

Pretty nice vocals and guitar work, and I can see why people would love this, but I do not.

made me sleepy - boring lullabies

It just kinda washed over me like a non-offensive and bland wave

C&W is not for me

Fine for what it is, but not my jam

not for me

Let me die with a hammer in my hand.

This is a nice album but too low energy for me.

Theoretically, this is up my alley. I should have liked this, but I didn’t. It was too country for my singer-songwriter tastes and too singer-songwriter for my country tastes.

Es agradable pero nada nuevo.

temas favoritos: red clay halo, april the 14, ruination day, everything is free Música para no tener problemas de plata, y recolectar tomates por mero gusto. Aburridisimo. Tono demasiado agudo y monotono.

bland and generic

Beautiful and simple folk infused with country and bluegrass (with the banjo). Reminded me of 70s pop, but also reminds me of Taylor Swift's Folklore and Evermore albums 2 decades later. Several songs I didn't care for, but many were decent and soothing, and I especially enjoyed the epic "I Dream a Highway" as a background tune. It isn't especially impressive or flashy or innovative, but it certainly offers something nice and consistent that's rare to find. Favorites: Revelator, My First Lover, Dear Someone, Everything is Free, I Dream a Highway

Te soft 2*

Not notable in any way, really - the live track was nice, but everything else felt so stereotypically singer-songwriter that it didn't leave much impact, if any. Not sure if there's historical context I'm missing, but man have I been getting some boring albums here lately.

I feel like this was something that suburban white moms would have listened to. Completely forgettable. I can't remember if I even finished it because the songs all sounded the same to me. I saw a cool bird while I was outside listening to this though.

It was boring, but relatively nice on my ears, like a funny science teacher.

One of the easiest games of ‘guess the rhyme’ so far. Very trite and obvious lyrics backed by unremarkable meanderings.
