Reviews (page 5 of 7)

This guy puts on a great live show, and gets a great band together, and this album is a great example of that. Whatever your opinions, if you're in the mood for this, then Van Morrison is the one to serve it.

I'm not normally a big fan of most live albums, but this one was pretty good.

I love Van Morrison but not this album. It's okay but, for me, not worth adding to my library.

Morrison is a generational talent, no doubt. But this is a surprisingly low-energy set.

#520. This is the kind of guy I'd expect to be playing in the back of a bar somewhere. It's not too bad, but I probably won't be paying too much attention to it while he's playing though. 3/5: fine

There's are way too many live albums on this list. There are maybe 5 live albums in the history of popular music that should be on this list. That's not to say that live albums aren't good, but top 1000 good?

Easy listening, but it does nothing special for me.

Makes for a great concert by Van Morrison…if I wanted to experience a Van Morrison concert.

I’d rather listen to the studio versions of these songs. I don’t connect with the live experience of these. And that’s a rare thing, often the live versions bring something exciting to the songs but I don’t get that here.

It's good. Morrison has a unique voice and it's displayed well here. I don't love the length, and, honestly, I preferred all of the studio albums over this live album. It's probably a 3.5 but I'll round down so that I can separate it from the albums I liked more.

This will be a short review, as it might as well be a copy-paste of a lot of other live albums. This was fine, but I don’t really get the point of this album as it doesn’t really seem to give anything more than a studio album. It wasn’t bad or hard to listen to. In fact, I’d say I enjoyed it overall. But it’s probably better to just listen to the studio recorded tracks.

Van at his vocal prime. Band was tight too.

Have to say, was not expecting it to be enjoyable...

6.5/10

A réécouter !

Listenable

Obligatory 3 star for a live album that I refuse to listen too. Live albums and studio albums should always be treated as wholly separate things.

Admittedly don't love a two disc set. Too long! :P But love some Van.

Not my type

Great hits, solid recording. Wouldn’t pick it solely to listen to again.

I like Christgau’s take on this oft-praised album: “Songs that…were just lame in the first place have more force and tightness here than in their studio versions.” Ouch. And still…

Another one I enjoyed a lot more than I thought I was going to.

Entirely pleasant.

This was a nice lice album, but I’m pretty mid on van morrison

Not really a big fan of live albums, and this wasn't any different.

i'm not the hugest van morrison fan (music and the person) but there is a handful of his stuff that i like, particularly the sort of horn-based blue eyed soul that he got into in the early 70s. there is a decent amount of that here - i particularly enjoyed the versions of 'domino' and 'caravan' here. the rest of the songs i could kind of take or leave, it wasn't bad but it wasn't really my taste or interested me particularly. the musicianship here is pretty great, especially the horns. but yeah, decent, but not totally my bag.

Nice bluesy album. Not my favourite album of his, but not bad

i can appreciate the technical skill going into this, there's just nothing else for me personally to draw from it

I guess Van Morrison wrote other songs

The recording of this live album is some of the best I’ve ever heard, and this album is prob pretty old. Yeah 1974 wow. Anyways, unfortunately gets a little boring as we get deeper into the album. Lost my attention rip.

Bloated Overall nicht schlecht

Meh at its finest

Quite enjoyed it

Sounds like he’s doing his best American soul/jazz singer impression but not as good. Preferred the rockier songs over the jazzy ones. Not bad but not good.

I didn’t care much for the tracks where he pretended to be the white Muddy Watters. But overall a decent listen.

Was it just the spotify link or this one really is a live album, where the live versions do not seem that great?

Too much of a good thing

Very repetitive and extremely long. But it has its moments.

Despite being objectively way too long, I didn't really mind this album. Very produced-sounding for a live album. Especially considering it was recorded in 1974.

I don't dislike Van Morrison, but I am not really a fan either. This is a good music bed tonput on and just zone out to when you are working.

2.5, a bit long but some bangers!

It was ok

It's live, it's a double album which covers some of thd highlights of his career. I must admit I was skipping through some tracks. Decent

It's not too late to stop. You could have stopped at a single album and it would have been a better release. One for those who went to the concert? Some great tracks on here but in general they're not as good as the studio versions

Not my thing, but its fine.

Better than your average live album. Sounds like it was a good performance. As an album on this list though, I thought it lacked. Lots of slow jamming and Van Morrison's performances didn't vary much across the songs so it just felt like a shitload of the same thing for 90 minutes.

I really don't get the need for live albums on this list. That said, the production on this one is good. Too bad it's pretty boring. 3/5

As I reach the end of this challenge I ask myself, did there really need to be a live Van Morrison album? No there didn't. It's fine but really didn't need to exist.

Un bon album live sans plus. 5.5/10

Another one of "why are live albums on here". I don't think this really adds anything to anyone anywhere, unless you know and love the studio versions of these tracks already. It doesn't make me want to listen to him anymore than I did previously. 2.5*

To my own shock and maybe even horror, I think I’m a fan of Van Morrison?!?! That sounds like such a weird Boomer opinion, especially because I normally like my music fast and abrasive, but there’s just something so appealing about his vibe. His music is approachable, tight, and groovy, and this really put me in a positive mood as I listened to it. That said, It’s Too Late to Stop Now was born with marks against it. For one, it’s a live album. Now, outside of just being alive for 31ish years, I’ve never gone out of my way to listen to Van Morrison, so while I recognized some songs, most of the originals here are new to me. And yet, I couldn’t shake the feeling that, for most of these songs, I’d rather just listen to the studio version? Which, frankly, is the issue with a live album for me. Live albums are for super fans or for reinvention, and every “Classic Live Album” I can think of/on this list is 100% the former, it seems. (Except maybe Kiss Alive, but that’s because they sucked as studio musicians.) It’s Too Late does add some fun, interesting elements, and I can tell which songs are expanding on the studio version, plus the covers are good covers. For a live album, it’s pretty damn good. But it’s still a live album at the end of the day, and it definitely isn’t reinventing anything in Van Morrison’s back catalog. For two, it’s a double album. I’ve gotten lucky with the double albums on this list so far, but even the good ones are an exhausting listen. I think It’s Too Late keeps the good vibes going despite its length, and I could see this being an even easier listen on vinyl. Side A and Side D in particular are very consistent, and I would probably just stick to those sides if I was listening to it on a record player. But as a full experience….I’m sure it was a lot more fun if you attended the concert in person, let’s just say that. Combined, It’s Too Late is clearly a “yes, but” record. It feels supplemental, like an asterisked footnote to highlight the huge amount of superstar material Van Morrison put out in the late ‘60s through mid-70s. It’s a victory lap, it’s a good listen, it’s fun. It’s not an intro, it’s not a pinnacle, it’s not essential. It’s a live album, and a double album. But hey, it makes me want to check out the rest of his discography, so that’s kinda still a win, right?

Good live album from Van Morrison. Enjoyed it.

Pretty decent live album

This is a tough one for me, because I used to love Van Morrison, then I kind of got over it, and then I cashew to learn more (distasteful stuff) about him as a person so I just let him fall away into history. Listening to a full double album was probably too much just like he is a probably too much. Can't deny he had talent.

Not a great fan, but boy does he sound great live. Public Service Announcement: Patti Smith's version of Gloria is far superior to Van Morrisons'.

Po pire! trop long tho.

Good overall, they are near 4

This is nice, and after reading how they did no adjustments in post I respect it more. But it isn't the kind of music I want to listen to live.

This was recorded live? Great sound quality. Bluesy & relaxing music, but need to be in a mood to listen to it for more than a few songs.

incredible vocals for a live album so old, i like van morrison a lot so it managed to fend off being rated lower, still waaaay too long.

Is it really too late to stop, Van? (I know that was obvious.) It's the third album from Van Morrison I've got from the list, and I increasingly feel it deserves 3 stars. It's not bad at all, and it's pretty enjoyable sometimes, but it's always the same.

Fun listen

Didn't expect to enjoy this as much as I did. Meaning I was ready to reject this like a bad donor organ, prepared to turn it off after song one. It's certainly a vibe, the Van Morrison vibe I can get with. Most everything else about the guy, who he is, a lot of the music he makes, it ain't for me.

Average

This is too much of a good thing. I like his voice, the arrangements, the energy. But it doesn't really ramp up to anything. It feels like it stays at this one level the whole time.

The way this is talked about, I was ready to be K.O.'d by a sizzling live performance. What I got, as ever with Van Morrison, was just fine. Socks remain unblowed. I'm starting to think the hype around Van Morrison is a conspiracy, because I really, really don't get it.

The quality of the numbers varies across four sides - some of the covers are terrific, some are OK.

i've said it before and i'll say it again: live albums are the purview of superfans!!! stop putting them on lists for the general public! apparently van morrison is also a real piece of shit, so that's another strike. i gave this what i thought was a reasonable chance - i listened to 1 full album. it was extremely fine. and that was enough.

Whenever I listen to live albums, I just imagine the applause is for me doing the inane nonsense that I'm doing, like loading the dishwasher. This one is pretty good though.

Ahhh, the master of blue-eyed soul. I do love me some Van the Man, that love child of James Brown and James Taylor. I was on a mountain biking trip in the summer of 1989 in Alberta with my uncle and a couple of family friends. We had covered a lot of altitude and miles before making camp for the night in the middle of nowhere under the big western sky, like four Spandex cowboys. The campfire was on the go when the fellas realized that they’d lost their hash somewhere along the way! Off they went, eventually finding it against the odds. They were in a celebratory mood (and high as f#&k) and put on some music to play one-legged “Pick up the Bag”, leading me to ask “Who’s this?”. They were aghast that I’d never heard - of course - Van Morrison. They were actually mad at my father for never having showed me the Way of the Van. And he’s been along for my ride ever since, in and out, on and off, but always there somewhere. Not sure I dig his live stuff as much as his studio work, but pulling out a Van album off the shelf now and then is always welcome.

Known as on of the greatest live albums of all time… it didn’t change my feeling about live albums in general; which is I would rather be listening to the studio albums. Overall this is fine, it’s a collection of good Van Morrison tracks and some solid covers, but it’s still limited in appeal.

Lots of good on this. But it drags a bit, especially disc 2. Still a solid 3.

I wanted to hate this, but I didn't. I usually don't like live records, it is much too long so I didn't listen the entire thing in one go, I don't like his voice very much, but the band is good, the songs are ok, must have been a hell of a night if you were there. favorite song: I believe to my soul.

6.5/10 - While I liked the other Van Morrison album a lot this one just did not hit as hard. He played some of the songs off of the album but they were just worse. Like he kind of ruined into the mystic imo. I liked Saint Dominic's preview quite a bit.

Van Morrison is lowkey way hornier than Marvin Gaye. I feel like he doesn’t get the recognition he deserves for this

Felt like listening in a park on a summer night.

Not really my thing but the execution is tight.

A live album. Odd when these make a “must listen” list. And I do love a good live album. This one is just alright.

i love the idea of van morrison but…

Energetic!!

Pitkä platta mutta homma futaa. Tällasessa kevyemmässä kamassa tää livekonsepti ei haittaa liikaa. 3/5

Ihan kelpo livelevy ja onhan Morrisonilla paljon hyviä biisejä.

3 ok but caravan was excellent

Bring It On Home to Me.

7/16/24. Great taste of Van Morrison right here, didn’t think it would be as blues! Some fun live tracks.

An extra star because they didn't play Brown Eyed Girl

Easy listen. Sounds like he was in his prime here.

If you like Van Morrison, it’s hard not to like this album. I enjoyed it

It was better than I expected (which was two stars).

I've heard this before and was excited to see it come up. This time around I was a little disappointed, not sure why. Highlight: St Dominic's Preview.

An ok album

This was a bit over indulgent for me.

Iconic songs, great backing band, huge voice. But too much Van for one sitting.

I was expecting to hate it cause it's a 90 minutes but I ended up really enjoying it, really solid live album with great preformences from Van Morrison. 3.5/5

Bra. Litt upbeat, gospelaktig. Kan være tøft i rett humør 😊

I liked some of the songs but I hope my favorite artists never make a live double album.

I don’t really like the live version.

Pretty great.

really charming so far recording is perfect BOOOOOOOOOOOOORIIIIIIIING this is perfect background music this is really good, a perfect way to come back from the snorefest that was the last two songs. feels like ive heard this song 2000 times before, i have never heard this song before. annoying trumpets and falls into the background fast worst transition ever fuck taking notes theres nothing to say boring ass album 6.5-7/10 last two songs were good tho......

Meh. A few pretty ones but a lot of forgettable for me. Rating: 3.0

Ugh. Fine. I'll listen to it. I'll be as polite as I possibly can. Music appreciation is a lot about taste. Van Morrison isn't my cup of tea. It's clear that he's a powerful and unique singer, but singing is one aspect of music, and not even a necessary one for my experience. The way I process singing is as a single facet of musical possibility. I don't even comprehend lyrics until I've heard a song two or three times unless I'm purposefully seeking the lyrical content out. So, to feature an entire double live album of primarily singing just doesn't do a lot for me. His backing band is great. The engineering's fantastic. But it's an hour and a half featuring a singer who isn't among my favourites in the first place.

This was a pretty decent middle-of-the-road album. I have a lot of respect for Van Morrison because his music style crosses over into multiple genres. With that being said, I find myself enjoying some of his albums more than others. Overall, this was a good album with good energy, and it was also a good recording for a live album. It’s probably not something I would go back to for personal pleasure, but it will definitely be on the list of albums to have playing in the background for special occasions.

A lot better than I thought it would be given it’s a live album and it’s by Van Morrison

I struggled to remain interested despite the quality of several songs. I can easily see how a fan of the sound could get lost in its depth. Just not me.

I suppose this album would make a bigger impression on someone already familiar with Van le Man. It’s also a bit too long à mon avis. But the entire album is an amazing performance.

Not crazy abotu Van Morrison

It was okay.

Fun songs but not my cup of tea. Minus one because it's a live album

Buen disco. La reseña cierra sintética.

The first half of this is really bluesy and not for me. The more straightahead soul funk grooves are more my speed, like I've Been Working. Best live album ever recorded? not on your life. Have you heard Vulfpeck's Live at Madison Square Garden? Even Live at the Budokan.

I love van Morrison albums yet I don’t care for live albums. So naturally this will fall right in the middle. Van and the band do play exceptionally well though. They play some of the classics that I love along with some lesser known ones. They play like a soul band but with an Irish way. For a live album this is very nice. 7.0/10

Very nice bluesy, jazzy record. Nice to hear a collection without brown eyes girl. The last three songs on this collection were outstanding. Great live album. Close to a 4 but keeping it at a three.

THIS ALBUM IS LOOOOOOOOOONG

Give me something new.

This is all really good, but it's also all essentially the same song. I can see that someone could give this a 5 if that sound was really what they were looking for. I could also see someone giving this a 1 if that sound isn't what they like. For me, it's a 3.

Kind of long. Some nice singing and work from the band. Something falls just a little flat for me though. Probably would be better live it just doesn't feel as authentic as a lot of soul I've heard so far.

5/10 I like Van Morrison in general. I hate live albums in general. There is nothing here that pushes me one way or the other. You get my meh. 5-16-2024

Good performance, but overlong. It all blends together after a few tracks.

Still on the fence with Van Morrison. I like a few of his catchy hits just not all in on him like so many who adore everything he does. Im willing to bet I'll see more of him on this list and will be turned. This album just didn't quite get me there.

Not my favorite. I like jazz, but maybe mostly when it’s just instrumentals. I don’t connect with this so much.

An excellent, well-recorded live album. Great R&B and rock record. The band is on point and Morrison is in his heyday. I will listen to this one again!

Van is one of our great live performers. Nice to hear him at the top of his game before the rest of life occurred.

Good listen. Solid orchestra. It strays a little too far into the "big Band" sound....but reminds me of listening to the radio with my dad in his garage doing woodwork. Nice album.

Nice background music for doing the dishes

prefer the new stuff

daaaaaad music nicht schlecht aber hach jaaa i believe in my soul ein bisschen mitgeschunkelt hab ich schon!

Don't know Van Morrison beyond his hits. He's alright, although I don't think a live album is really the best way to expand my appreciation of him. He's a solid live performer, I just think his album work is likely to resonate with me more. Overall, it was an enjoyable if not ground breaking listen for me.

Van is a cool guy!

It's fine.

Quite enjoyable! But nothing really special to me

Great sounding band with some great songs. I particularly like the live version of Gloria and was looking forward to getting to it as i went through the album. Being a double album I found it quiet long and repetative after a while. I got to the point where I was excited for this album to end. Not one I would listen to again but I can appreciate some good songs and a great voice. Favourite song: these dreams of you & st domonics preview. Least favourite song: There was nothing not to like, just lots of repitiion. Some songs like listen to the lion inside of me are just long and tedious. Album artwork: Great cover for a live album.

Not many particular standouts imo. Gloria was funky though

Oh it’s fine. Van Morrison is an idiot but there’s worse music to have to listen to. If your grandparents put this on, you’ll live. His voice is nice and the songs are pleasant. The recording is really well done and sounds great for a live album. I don’t think they should let live albums be on this list though! I’ll say the final two tracks both being ten minutes long started to test my patience!

Two van albums in a row. I hope there's not another 40 on this list. At least better than the last one

I can’t tell if this was too much of a good thing or just a live album I didn’t particularly like because I love van Morrison but this album ended up just being another in like a weeklong string of albums I’ve been almost completely ambivalent about. It wasn’t bad and there were a couple good songs but by the end of an hour and a half I was just exhausted.

I’m not a fan of live albums or double albums. So straight away I’m needing convinced with this one. Actually as far as live albums go this is pretty good, I still think it’s too long though, but enjoyed this blues covers too. Too long to add to my frequent rotation but deserves to be on the list.

I'll put my hate for Van Morrison aside and admit that the production, recording, arrangement, of this album is superb.

Great live album, love van!

Few good tracks, but way to long and his voice becomes increasingly monotonous over this length of a performance. That said, the band sounds great. Fuck Van Morrison tho...

Listened Before? N I've heard of Van Morrison, of course, but never listened to a single song of his that I'm aware of. So this is quite the introduction... a double live album. I thought it was probably super popular with his fans, and not too hard to listen to - but being unfamiliar with his work it didn't do a ton for me. I'd revisit again after becoming more familiar with his work. Added to Library: N Songs added to playlist: Bring It on Home to Me

Interesting voice. It has it's place.

Surprisingly fine. I’m not a big Van Morrison fan, but I recognize his talent. I could listen to this regularly as background ambience.

Liked it but long and songs started to blend together; he's got a great voice though.

Not bad. One of his better albums

It’s a good album. I feel like this is every classic I have ever heard by Van Morrison.

Klassisk bluesrock livealbum, måske lidt for langt

Used to love VM - now I’m kinda like, meh.

good shit

Blue-eyed soul.

Nice melodies and that’s about it

entertaining if not memorable

Very well recorded for a live album, but not my thing

One of the best musicians of his era

This was quite enjoyable, with surprisingly good production. I didn't enjoy all of it, but there were some gems that stood out. Favourite tracks: Into the Mystic, I Believe to My Soul, Saint Dominic's Preview, Gloria, Caravan.

I am not a big fan of live recordings. Van Morrison's "middle" period is my favorite (around the time of "No Method No Guru") and this one had been a bit before. It's alright in my ears, but not more.

Reminded me of my Dad

It was OK

Never been a huge VM fan. There’s some good stuff here, as well as some clunkers. The recording quality is top notch for a live show.

Nice bit of background music...

Exciting live album

Full disclosure, I only did the first disc. But it was good. I don't like live albums in general, but this one was much better done than a lot of others. No crowd screaming in my ears, retained good recording quality and VM is pretty chill. I'm in.

Double live album? I don’t do those. But I’ll give it a 3 because I like some VM stuff and as Phil said, “Van is the Man.”

good live album

I like Van Morrison. I don't like everything of his, but I recognize great songwriting when I hear it. And I also have to judge this based on the fact that it's a live recording. The sound mix is outstanding and the musicians' playing it TIGHT. This is one of the better live recordings I've ever heard, regardless of how I feel about the music. My biggest issue with these songs is that they all sound very similar in their style and structure. But then I've always been a "in small doses" fan of his; so there's that.

i'm not a fan of van, live albums, or albums with hour plus runtimes...so all things considered, i guess this was better than expected. 2.5/5

Good songs. Not a great album though. Live albums are almost never worth listening to.

A few good songs....why so long? 3/5

That voice. Not pleasant. One song is fine. A whole album is too much to bear. A double-album...fuck me. Songs I liked the best: Domino, I Just Want to Make Love to You, Bring it on Home to Me, Here Comes the Night, Gloria, Brown Eyed Girl, Into the Mystic, 3/5

Too long. Some great moments but also some boring moments. Last song is 10 minutes and it’s like 2 minutes of actual song.

Honestly better than expected, I don't normally like live albums but the sound quality was almost as good as a studio. Still too long though. 3.5

Great live album, but not enough of his cosmic phase

I just can’t dig Van Morrison, sorry Kyle

Meh. Van Morrison in general is overrated, and this album is nothing special. Its not "bad" - Its just average. 3/5

I'm a big fan of Van Morrison all through the 70s, but... it's a live album. He's a dynamic performer to be sure, oozing with soul, and it was seeing his performance in The Last Waltz that really drew me to him in the first place, but I think that live albums simply shouldn't be a part of this list. I was actually more interested in hearing the covers here because I'd never heard him perform them before.

As someone without much exposure to Van Morrison this feels like maybe the wrong place to start. It sounds really good though, although not so much my thing. Could see why people say it's one of the better live albums: it has some tight performances for sure.

listened to it and forgot it promptly after very beautiful instruments but I dont really care for the songs. cant choose between 2 and 3 so im flipping a coin

I'm not a fan of Van Morrison and was dreading that it's a live double album. But I will say that this is an excellent live performance and that it does bring some new life to his songs that makes them a bit more interesting. It's not for me but I can see what makes it an impressive album.

some solid tracks and good vocals but a little too long.

3.5/5. Enjoyable, easy to listen to. Pretty much what you'd expect from Van Morrison.

3/5. One of the highlights of the album is the chemistry between Van and his band, following him to a T and feels so raw but coordinated. There are just songs on here that I don't enjoy to begin with so I only listen to the ones I know and although some sound better on here, most I like the studio version better. Still a good collection, kind of like a greatest hits.

*separates the art from the artist* This was okay for a live album. Decent for a Van Morrison album. Nothing really stood out to me in a good or bad way. Influential? Maybe. Too long? Yeah.

Actually fun

It's Van. It's has all his hallmarks. It;s pretty solid. It's live so a little out of place on this list.

Fuck this so much. Every song sounds the same and like the soundtrack to a dentist’s waiting room. His forced “soulful” affectations are cringeworthy. Backing band was tight but I couldn’t stand this.

Was wel ok. Maar ik gok beter in real life

I genuinely liked a lot of the songs on this, but 90 minutes? Really? 6/10

My wife loves Van Morrison. Hates his live stuff because he elongates every song and mumbles through the entire song. It was fine.

Sounds good

I like the vibe of it. Wished it was more popular songs.

Besides being too long, this album was much better than I was expecting for a live album. The Blues and Jazz songs were surprisingly good, all while still sounding like Van Morrison. This could have a solid 4 stars from me if the album was not so long.

Another live double album? I'm not convinced about this. I'm not even convinced that any Van Morrison album deserves a place on this list. In it's defence, this one is a nice recording which captures Morrison in his prime. Lots of these songs actually sound punchier and better than the do in the studio albums. So you could make a case for this being the most essential document of Van Morrison. However, it is really long and gets tiresome. I object to the idea of trying to replicate a full concert experience by bloating the album format to it's limit. 3*

AJ: I didn’t listen. I don’t want to. He’s a trash bag. Some classics on here, and a live album was a surprise. Getting a 3 for the legend, but he seems a dick.

I liked the energy of the album, loved the band, and the great sound production... But the album quickly got flat, with Morrison’s vocals not quite measuring up.

Live album. Double. It's Van Morrison and it's and hour and a half long. Shoot me! I think this is actually a really good performance. Turns out a lot of Van Morison's catalogue up to 1974 was worth hearing in a live setting. Essential album? Maybe. I think the extent that people ought to know about Van Morrison is Astral Weeks and Moondance and that's it. The rest is up to personal preference. Either way, this live album is enjoyable enough to me.

Decent live album

Caravan was a standout. There's other good parts but I think this needs more time to digest properly.

A toe tapper. Very well recorded and mixed for a live album

This is a jazzy, funky and soulful album. Not particularly exciting, and I got kinda bored of the whole thing by the end. Sometimes the songs really last too long and just seem to waffle on a bit. But it's a live album, so probably a case of "You had to be there". It also fell on a day when I could have done with a more energetic album, to be honest. But I could quite happily relax with this album in the background. Favourite: Ain't Nothin' You Can Do

"I Believe to My Soul" is a great, and songs like "Gloria" and "Cyprus Avenue" are the perfect choice for a live performance, but the rest of the album is not that special. Mixing styles can be cool, but I think it doesn't really work in this case. As a result, the general sound resembles a mass-produced, easy-listening big band record. The best moments are not the soaring strings and flashy brass band interjections, but the quiet sections, which demonstrate that this guy is a good blues and soul singer.

The musicians on this album are quite good playing live. It sounds like a good gig. Looking back at my old ratings I gave another album of his a rating that is embarrassingly high in our early days so not going high again.

My all-time two favourite live albums are by Talking Heads (Stop making sense) and Van Morrison, but alas, the Van album I'm thinking of isn't this one, its his A night in San Francisco that he put out in 1994, which is absolutely toe-tapping, head boppingly electrifying. If you haven't heard it and you're a Van Morrison fan you have to listen to it. But back to this album - its fine and the band is tight and there are some good versions of his hits including I've been working, Domino, Caravan and Gloria. But I have to say it again, his San Francisco album is sinfully under-rated and a real gem.

Perfunctory - the first half dozen tracks sound as if he was just trying to get through them as quickly as possible. Not his best vocal performances.

3,5 mais bon

54/100

There's a sin in putting Van Morrison before the list; That is, this is a fine Van Morrison album for a list of his, not an entry on Van Morrison for a list of albums. The band is incredible, though, and Van doesn't step in front of them and it feels almost unfair to note the listen in this way. Neither in editing nor in scope does ..It's Too Late... stand out, yet it has five-star energies and I may find myself revisiting the full-volume set.

With each live album I get I become more and more militantly against them. They’re not albums that should be ranked anymore than a ‘Best Hits’ compilation should be! Anyway the music was fine, the album was long, and it was a live album so…. 3 stars

There's very few LIVE albums that I'd rate worthy of 'must-listen' status and regardless its technological innovations, recording quality and tightness of Van & The Band, I'd hardly rate this one on THAT par. Great album, Van sounds great but I fail to see the importance of this record which hasn't stood the test of time. 3.5/5.

Tämä sopi loistavasti epätoivoisen suuren sähköpostivuoren tyhjennyksen taustamusaksi. Sopivan rentoa kiireisen päivän taustalle.

Makee setti. Viihdyttävä ja tasaisen korkeampi taso keskiverron yläpuolella.

Covers outside of his usual style as part of a double live album is not really what I'm looking for when I put on a VM album, but it was well done and showed his versatility, so. Best track: Gloria

Good in the background. A little boring to listen to with full attention all the way through.

A fair if slightly underwhelming live album, a good listen but not close to his best, doesn't really belong on this list.

This was decent, particularly for a live album, but not as good as Moondance which we had before. Some decent energy in it in places, and obviously the songs are decent, but it doesn't have the pace/energy to keep it up for the length of the album. 3/5.

As far as live albums go this is a pretty good one. I'm not familar with the majority of songs on this album so it was nice to hear a different side of Van Morrison. Fave tracks Warm Love, Wild Children, Saint Dominic's Preview.

It was alright, but it didnt pop as it should. Felt like it tried to be James Brown but without the energy.

I guess I can see a little of why Van Morrison was such an arse about being able to tour in the middle of a global pandemic. He clearly enjoys performing live and he's really good at it. This album, recorded live in 1973, should be a great example of Morrison in his prime as a live performer, and he mostly delivers in that regard. He's in excellent voice on the album and the band supports him nicely. These songs sound nearly as good as the studio recordings, with that added bit of energy, improvisation and grit you can only hear in a live performance. The whole performance has a small club vibe to it, which is nice. I agree with reviewers who say he has better songs, but the casual Van Morrison listener will find a lot of recognizable songs to enjoy here. His covers of Ray Charles, Sonny Boy Williamson II and others in general are great, among the best songs here. I could have done without this being a double album, but I still enjoyed it. Fave Songs: Saint Dominic's Preview, Caravan, I Believe to My Soul, I've Been Working, Listen to the Lion, Domino

Great performances from a terrible human.

Live albums are cheating. This is way too long.

I love Van, but not his best songs

3.6 - Not my first choice for either a live album or Van Morrison album. Mostly it reads as a residency in Las Vegas, complete with singer and audience in tired evening wear, and women dabbing moist eyes and moist vaginas.

Certainly enjoyable music and a good performance however the combination of live album and 90 minutes runtime just make it hard for me to see this being suitable to be included in this list and compare it to studio albums

Really enjoy Morrison's sound

first gotta give hats off to the man; he’s an absolute unit. this concert expertly flows from blues to funk to sentimental sad string stuff. he’s a master of his craft. having said that it’s very classic Rockin Daddy boomer music. ok it’s dated. very of its time. his voice while powerful and dynamic is not very beautiful. it’s sort of grating at times but it is very distinct so there’s that. great production, masterful performances by all.

3 - BAD

For me, Van Morrison will always be associated with Brown Eyed Girl. Not a fan of anything else.

Great musician. Live album though.

18 songs, I liked 4. The band was great, the vocals not so much. 2 stars

It is a shame, but I did not click at all with this live album.

I almost forgot to listen to this album; this sometimes happens. There are some nice songs featured on "It's Too Late to Stop Now". One day, I'll listen to the albums where the tracks came from. After a while, "It's Too Late to Stop Now" overstays its welcome. That's when the songs get longer and more boring. 2 stars for "It's Too Late to Stop Now".

I’m just not that interested in knowing what a Van Morrison concert in 1974 sounded like. I’m not even that interested in Van Morrison. His vocals are competent, I suppose, but just not very . . . interesting. (Does it go without saying that this is far too long?) 2.5?

Started off pretty good. The last few songs were pretty disappointing.

could of kept the second disc.

This is a lot of Van Wailison. I’ve never been more torn on whether something is good or a cheap thrill for those with no taste - I’ll defer to the latter.

Nice but don’t like live albums

Hoo-boy, hour and a half of live van morrison. I think if this were half the length, with tracks paired sensibly it would be pretty good. Instead, we are left with a slog. 2/5

A bit of a slog...

I am of the opinion that live albums should not be a part of this project. Additionally, I was looking forward to diving into Van Morrison and I’m annoyed that my first real exposure to him, outside of his hits, was a double live album. I feel like that ruins some of the presentation of future albums. So, I’m annoyed with this one.

didnt have time 2 lisn 2 much but it seemd good

This was fine, there wasn’t anything bad on here but dear god was it a slog to get through I already knew bring it on home and I just want to make love to you but wow was it annoying how he kept ruining the hook for the chorus 2.5

how many more live albums must one endure?

Rock. Classic. Soulful with a message. I like most and some I could take or leave. Definitely on the must hear list.

Skimmed this one. Not something I would listen to. Something hokey about it.

I don’t like live albums really but it was ok nothing special

this put me in a bad mood

I wish someone would've stopped you. This being a live album does absolutely nothing for it. Caravan is in my daily playlist in fact, and it's not the version that has Van the Man warbling out every name of every band member halfway through it.

Overall: 3/10 Van Morrison really sucks. I can't put my finger on why but I just can't stand listening to him, and I certainly don't want to listen to a live double album from him. This was tough to get through. Fav Song: These Dreams of You

The Good: We must be on a roll!!! The Bad: What if we really want to stop? The Ugly: The state we are in, after slamming into another car, cause we really wanted to stop… There are things to be said that one person’s favorite album can be another person's least or another person’t so-so selection… at the end of the day, music is subjective as hell. However, when it comes to live albums, there is little subjectiveness involved… it is fact; you either hate it or love it. In the case of this trainwreck of an album… I have to just bow my head and say thanks that I won’t have to listen to it again… I am certain that there are Van M fans out there who view this album as the best of the best… in my case, it’s too late to stop now…. 2* thanks to Into The Mystic

The vibe of the album was quite chill and initially I liked how it was nice and jazzy. However, every single song sounded the same so the entire album felt very monotone. The album was also so long I keep wishing it would end but it never ends!!!

Disc 1 - 2.5/5 Ain't Nothin' You Can Do - 3/5 Warm Love - 3/5 Into the Mystic - 2.5/5 These Dreams of You - 2.5/5 I Believe to My Soul - 3/5 I've Been Working - 3/5 Help Me - 3.5/5 Wild Children - 2.5/5 Domino - 3/5 I Just Want to Make Love to You - 2.5/5 Disc 2 - 2/5 Bring It on Home to Me - 2/5 Saint Dominic's Preview - 2.5/5 Take You Hand Out of My Pocket - 2/5 Listen to the Lion - 2.5/5 Here Comes the Night - 3/5 Gloria - 2/5 Caravan - 3/5 Cyprus Avenue - 1.5/5

Not his best

jesus christ please god no more 70s slop

If you're looking to overdose on Van Morrison, this'll do it.

this was boring icl

Live albums are for people that are already fans of an act. This is recorded well, but like I said before he sounds as tho he has tiny lungs. There are just way better singers that have way more passion. He must have a stage presence that makes up for his voice. Is he doing a parody of the Blues? The instrumentation is great.

Meh , Chris put it on during the car ride to cork and it worked as background music but overall I was bored

Don’t know why this list keeps spitting out mid live albums

The band is pretty good and the songs sound perfectly pleasant, but soul this ain't Also the accent is just weird

Long album makes me nervous, I was right to be nervous, just boring, like so dull.

man, i guess i'm a huge hater of the irish :/ Would I listen again? no please, this is the kind of music my parents want to listen to live Deserves to be on this list: live albums need to be executed 2.3

It’s never too late to shut up now. So boring, every score ran off like pee.

Sounds good. I just don't really care for it.

I generally like Van Morrison’s music, but dislike extended live versions of songs. Jam bands drive me nuts. So this album really tasted my patience.

Chli lang und meistens isch live eif nd so geil wied original songs wenn mer nd selber dette isch

idk i just dont like van morrison's voice

There’s not much to like here: his awful voice, this isn’t a greatest hits setlist, and this version of Into the Mystic—his only good song—is phoned in. But his band! Oh, his band. So is this the “Frampton Comes Alive” of Ireland? Asking for a friend.

Best Song: Warm Love. Fresh, energetic, with the best vocals in the double album. Worst Song: Cyprus Avenue. The recording should have long ago ended by now. There's not even any energy in this protracted finale, just this desperate feeling that the night shouldn't end, when in reality it's been over for a while. Overall: Way too long. If I were at this concert live I would think it was too long. Feels odd to include this live album, as I don't really see what is particularly transformative about it being recorded live rather than in the studio.
