Reviews (page 6 of 7)

another one that leaves you wondering why this album is on the list

Not my cup of tea. Sounds like something that would playing out of a tinny radio at a backroad truck stop

Not really into that American country vibe. But did feel transported to that local watering hole where the country folk hang.

Had some witty lyrics but didn't really leave an impression on me.

Pretty generic country album. A mix of blues, country and some folk. It honestly didn't make a great impression. Probably Boxcars was the best track but I can't remember much of it even though I tried. Strong 2, maybe just not in the mood for country today.

Fine. Good for country

Boring

Not bad I just don't care

This isn’t terrible. I actually liked “Boxcars”. But overall it was a tough 33 minutes to get through.

Horrendous

I like my redneck shit but this ain't it

Really enjoyed 'Boxcars' - listened to it about 4 times, but rest of the album is your run of the mill honkytonk. 2.5 stars.

not much to say

Fingernails is a jam, probably won't be coming back to the album though.

Fun, but just not really my thing. Starts pretty slow, but the songs get more interesting and upbeat towards the end. 2.5/5 Probably won’t listen again

Generic and kind of awkward

Just not my taste, can't do honky tonk country no matter how good it is.

Folk country aburrido.

Honky tonky Bob Denvery

This was the country sound I have feared every time there has been a country record on here. Nothing I connect with.

When I’m a minute in and counting down 33 to go that ain’t good. Appreciate the short run time though.

Overproduced country that tries to play all sides: soft pop, hard rock, and folky outlaw country. It's fairly standard but fluffs it up by doing some things weird and different like unusual instrument choices, genre fusions, or unexpected chord changes. It works ok, and definitely stands out a bit from peers, but I'm not seeing any reason to revisit. It was short and had various styles with pleasant melodies, so it was easy to listen to and enjoy. Favorites: Cornbread Moon, Boxcars

I'm not a honky tonker, sorry.

Too much honking, too much tonking, too much country.

I’m not a big fan of country music but I did enjoy Because of the Wind and Boxcars.

4.5/10

I may have heard of Joe before this but not 100% sure. Certainly didn't know this album or any of the song except "Fingernails" which I heard covered by Marcia Ball. Not too bad of an album. However, I doubt it will make my regular rotation.

I'm British, so Country is not a genre I'm familiar with or particularly understand. This is OK, it sounds nice enough, but I'm not remembering a single track, and I only listened to it 20 minutes ago. It's a low 3, but still a 3.

This album is trying to be too many things. It walks a line between pop, western country, gospel, blues, and Texas country and it is just too much. Also the choice of synth and accordion were kinda bizarre. The 80s were truly on the horizon.

They did not lie re: Honky Tonk. A little too much for mine, though I guess I can see the proto alt-country in some of this.

Most C&W albums are one stars, this scrapes a two

Boah wieder so alte handgemacht Rockmusik. Rhythm and Blues und Country. Schnarch.

Not enough haw to my yee (medio whack) - Mari Yeehaw, we got some cornbread, we got some incest and most of all we got some long ass nails for the banjos, welcome to Alabama - alex

idk very very country western. 2 stars. Just not part of any culture that gives me feels. A good album to line dance too, but thats where it begins and ends for me.

"Boxcars" is actually kind of interesting. You could tell me it was written by a mid 2000s folk rock band like The Decemberists or Murder By Death and I would totally believe you. "I'll Be Your Fool" is kind of fun. "Fingernails" is dumb, but also a low-key banger. There's even some interesting use of Moog synths on this album which is not usually something I associate with this kind of glossed up, modern country. That's it. That's everything nice I have to say about it.

This was masquerading as honky tonk music. Couldn't help myself.

Good voice, well produced, but I rally cant remember any of the songs after listening through it. Not my cup of tea.

I have a Pavlovian response to hearing a slide guitar - I immediately want to punch the speakers and listen to anything else. That I didn't do it for this record says something I guess, but it's still too twee and country for me.

I hate weepy steel guitar so much. It's one of the many reasons I tend to dislike country music. That and the syrupy-thick, sad-sack lyrics. This album as both of those hated elements in spades. I'm willing to admit that this is probably a good representation of the genre. But I hated it.

Cornbread Moon, as the opener was a bit too C&W cringey and twangy. That being said, vocals and guitar work are pretty good. Unfortunately the album, bar one track, is too C&W for my liking, so it's a 2.

Pretty major country sound, not my tempo.

Townes Van Zandt.

not rly into it

If you look up honky tonk in the dictionary, this album comes up… “I keep my fingernails long so they click when I play piano” is an ear worm. Dad’s review: “taste is objective”

Masquerading as a country record. Ended up listening to Waylon & Willie instead.

Songs about cornbread, fingernails and honky tonkin' aren't really my thing. Still better than modern country

Is "corny" short for corn-fed? I'm European and I don't know what this is.

Ugggh! Honky cowpoke music for Christmas? When did I pick up the zoink gift in the White Elephant exchange? Gross. This is not what I wanted. I had my eye on that Rumours album as a special holiday treat. Foiled by Joe who-even-is-this?? Ely though.

Ya gotcherself two kindsa country music. There's yer moonshine swigging, pork 'n beans, bare-knuckle boxin', rootin' tootin' country, and there's yer studded cowboy boots, F1 cars and fried food at the rodeo country. I tend to lean towards the former myself, but ol' Joe here makes country of the latter variety. He does do some interesting things with it, "Boxcars" is a nice example of pushing the boundaries of commercial country, and his guitar playing is decent, but for the most part the misses outnumber the hits. 2 cornbread moons out of 5 🌕🌕

Americans love this glossy soulless country bollocks. Vapid nonsense that sounds the same as every other country twangy album. Nope.

The nice thing about this is the sweet spot between rock and roll (Fingernails) and country (Honky Tonk Masquerade). The other thing is that it's not that distinctive. I can see why he went on tour with The Clash, and enjoyed listening, but no real desire to add to playlist. Also very short and sharp. Sidebar: some of these tracks have 3,000 spotify streams. Even notorious 1001-ers like Kollaps and Duck Stab/Buster and Glen have streams in the many 10,000's - making him I guess one of the most obscure artists on this list.

Not bad but country

very country

Not alt enough.

Not good.

Kinda boring country. Definitely better than some country, but nothing I would say I liked. First song had me a little hopeful, but the rest wasn't as good. My favourite song was Cornbread Moon.

had some cajun themes liked it overall but prolly not gonna come back for any listens

Pierwsza całkiem niezła, dalej nope

Southern country bar music, not my thing

Meh, nää kantrihommat on jo kyllä kuultu

Not my thing honestly. A little fun to listen to but not something I'd choose to unless I was at a cowboy bar.

Eh. Honky tonk is right, and while I'm usually all in favor of a departure, this one didn't take me someplace I enjoy. Instead I was in a bar with a loud guy performing songs too lively for the hour. Not bad music per se, but one trick pony if you ask me. A couple I enjoyed (and I love the song about going downtown, I refuse to believe that isn't innuendo), but overall, bit of a dud for me. Favorite tracks: Tonight I Think I'm Gonna Go Downtown, Boxcars. Album art: I swear I'd seen this before, or maybe something just like it, but I thought it was for some Americana rock act. Definitely wasn't this guy that I heard. It's a pretty decent pic, as far as band pics/portraits go. But not much to talk about. 2.5/5

easy listening, not my jam

Not really my thing, definitely won't revisit. 2.5

Decent country

some not exciting country

Another meh and slightly corny country album.

2.5 Honkytonk is not a favorite of mine.

This was ok, didn't fully do it for me though. Call it a 2.5.

I don’t mind blue grass/ country music and this was alright but didn’t make me want to listen again so a harsh 2*

Fairly bog standard country.

Downloaded one song - Honky Tonkin’. Like country and this era but didn’t find too much on this album that caught my attention. Might see if he has anything else that I might like. I checked and did not find anything.

What's the opposite of ASMR? Fingernails and the slide guitar in Because of the Wind are so bad they'd make baby jesus cry. I did enjoy Boxcars tho.

not my favorite kind of country

Unfortunately, I seem to have misplaced my chaps and cowboy boots.

Anything that uses the phrase ‘honky tonk’ is never going to be for me, but the first half of this album was actually pretty darn good - the straight/swing switch-ups of the opener were fun, the production was solid and it was overall a good listen. Unfortunately everything after the title track was garbage

Standard chord structures, predictable lyrics, nothing to see here.

Genres: Country rock Formed: 1977 (solo) Run time: 10 songs, 33 min, 32 sec The second album by the singer-songwriter. Spotify: Least popular song: <2000 Most popular song: almost 389k plays. Seven of the ten tracks have less than 5k plays on Spotify. Ely does a great job of painting a picture with his lyrics. The songs are often mournful and a little whimsical. The general theme is that of dealing with life’s struggles. The songs are OK but they don’t stand out against any of the other country artists then or now. Listen Again?: No My Rating: **

I found this very beige and quite irritating tbh! Not my bag at all. Very repetitive in style.

Not great. I don't mind country when it's got a bit of pazzazz but this was boring. In fact, one good song came on and I thought 'oh this is pretty good' then looked and the album had finished and it was playing someone else haha

(audible sigh) I suppose it wasn’t that bad, and it was a shortish album making it less of a chore. 2.5 stars.

Nope to the honky tonk.

Joe Ely seems to have played with everyone. Band mates have gotten around too. Not my thing though

It was ok, nothing special for me, didn't playlist any songs. Plenty of better country out there.

Goh - NIet de grootste Countryfan

Did not know this album before. I understand it is a classic in its genre (Allmusic: 5, Christgau: A, Rolling Stone: 4.5) and it sounds very competent to me, but I won't be listening to it again.

2 good songs and a bunch of shit

Lively, bouncy country. Good fun, but not my cup of tea at all

Honky Tonk. Con media hora entretenida no da tiempo a muchas quejas. Pero en general prescindible.

But too country, although I liked Boxcars

Todella kädenlämpöistä, jopa kliseistä kantria. Ei koko levyllistä jaksais, 2/5.

Country and I don't resonate at all.

Not a big fan of country...

Not for me

It was ok. Joe Ely- liked cornbread moon Nice slide solo on because of the wind Box car- kind of a cool vibe. Cool harmonized guitar lines Jericho- like the half time part 2.5

This made me cringe.

Not a great lover of country, it's ok

Starting with the first track some of this was honking. Some albums clearly just get on the list to tick a genre box

This contributes to my influential doesn't equal good belief. He certainly may have influenced a lot of music I like, or maybe they were influenced by the same people. I appreciate the mix of country/blues/big band but it's an artist that was almost good. Fingernails was just bad. Erica: it's country. It's hard for me to be objective.

not sure that i buy much of what Joe Ely is selling on Honky Tonk Masquerade (not that he has that much to offer in the first place): the record is loaded with corny evocations of lower class midwestern quirks that Ely beats to the ground until they become indistinctive. it starts off strong, with its first three songs rich and full of color. “Boxcars” is the best thing on here — it fully captures the Ely’s vivid storytelling and complex country rock compositions. but every song following that is cheesier than the one before, and eventually they all begin to droll along. there are some last minute highlights, of course, like “Fingernails” or the title track, where Ely just goes off and has the time of his life. but as a non-country fan, Honky Tonk Masquerade unfortunately does not prove itself to be the record to make me a convert, but oh well…

This was not a great listen for me, an adherent of "Any Music but Country".

It started and I went hmmmm, then there were a couple of moments early on when I thought that this might take off in an unexpected direction, but it didn't.

country. very ok, but not something i would listen to again i think

Some really horrible cliched country, but then there are songs like Boxcars, which is brilliant, and Fingernails, which is a great piece of rockabilly.

Admittedly, I'm not well versed in classic country, but I couldn't connect with this one. It sounded over-produced, especially compared to the country I have enjoyed, like George Jones and Willie Nelson. Several songs had really odd decisions made musically, like the abrupt tempo change on Cornbread Moon, or the sweeping minor key violin coming in really loud on Boxcars.

Lawful Country? Into the dumpster it goes.

The only honky tonk I want to experience is The Honky Tonk Man from 80’s WWE. This is just another trash ass country album that no one should bother with.

Wow. This one sounded like an average singer at a bar singing to a badly produced karaoke track. And I'm sorry, but the song "Fingernails" that is literally about his fingernails made me want to throw up. WTF dude.

TURN THIS SHIT OFF

I guess it's only fair that all genres have representation on this list. But truly: fuck this.

As far as country this was better the majority of the genre. It’s not Dolly though, and it’s still country. So I will pass on this

(12/100)

Butt clenchingly awful, but thankfully quite short

Unimaginative. Mundane. Hum Drum. Boxcars was ok, not a bad feel. but is a recording career built on being ok? Talk about snooze against the dying of the light, oh death come to thee from this boredom.

1 star for making me hungry for cornbread.

Chintzy vibes. Saccharine and maudlin. Voice has the emotional range of a fan coil unit. Couldn’t make it through the whole album.

112. not my thing

I thought maybe there wouldn’t be any country music in this list. I was wrong. I hated this.

Knew from the first 10 seconds this would be rough. I don't like country music for the most part, but accept that there are some good songs and artists of the genre. This is not one of those artists. I prefer more folk style country music when I do listen to it. This is like line dancing music and might make for a good time at a barn dance, but that's the kinda good time I personally try to avoid. 1 star

I hear a rock\country\zydeco mix with a pinch of schmaltz. It doesn't seem to have a lot of depth and I'm having a hard time taking it seriously. This isn't my thing.

Rodeo clown music

The worst of all possible worlds - country/rock/pop crossover dreck with late-70s production values. I'm not sure why this is so highly regarded, I fail to discern any redeeming qualities at all really.

The production and instrument tones on this record are SO bad, it's unlistenable. I love a good country record too. Can't for the life of me figure out why this is on the list, it sucks shit.

Generic country sounds

I am mystified how anyone can actually enjoy this unless they’re into line dancing, I actively do not associate with line dancers

country, donty like it

Country on steroids

Generic songwriting, awful production, and just about every cliché in the entire genre of country, what's not to love? It's hard to believe that this in only just over half an hour long, it felt like it went on forever, I had had enough after about 2 songs because they literally all sound exactly the same. His voice was what got on my nerves the quickest, I swear some country singers purposefully give their voice a more southern twang in an attempt to fit the sound of the genre more, but it's just so obvious how inauthentic it is. I know country is a very popular genre to hate on, and for the longest time I was even a part of the "I listen to everything except country" club. But I am now learning that amazing country music absolutely exists, but this album is just so far removed from that. If this kind of shit is all that people are being exposed to, no wonder it's such a hated genre.

There’s a lot of Americans on this site who seem to label everything with a guitar and from the UK as ‘Britpop’. As a result I will be labelling this particular squeezy-cheese-in-a-can as ‘Freedom Pop’.

Incredibly boring album but it’s not terrible sounding music whatsoever. It actually has a good bop to it. It just doesn’t capture my attention enough to stand out as anything special.

completely unnecessary

1 minute in and knew it wasn’t for me. No thanks!

Yeah, this one’s not for me. Boxcars was a decent song, but other than that I just wanted to turn this off. I guess I’m just not a fan of the whole honky tonk sound or song writing style at all. This isn’t quite as bad as modern country, but it’s not far off. Actually I take it back, the last few songs are just as bad as modern country. There’s nothing cornier and more inauthentic than a country singer singing about their truck and tractor.

The accordian on Cornbread Moon is really somethin'.

I feel like I'm dying in slow motion while riding an electric bull.

An absolute chore. Slide tone is brutal

Just...no. Very little country on here has been worth my time. This doesn't add anything.

Painful

New ick just dropped! :D

Not a fan of country ish music

I bloody loved the title track from this one, really great song. Unfortunately that was literally the only thing I liked about this album. I probably hated I’ll Be Your Fool as much as I liked HTM. Luckily this was just over half an hour long so wasn’t a slog to get through but I won’t be going back to it. Top Track - Honky Tonk Masquerade

this shit sucks (forced to listen to county music growing up)

Are there two more foreboding words in the English language than honky tonk? It's exactly as risible as you'd expect basically. There is the tiniest hint of meaning and emotion towards the start, and then it's just...honky tonk.

Just so corny, even for country. Best song is Fingernails.

Crappety crap, what a terrible smell of southern americana

Country sucks.

180° flip from yesterday's album also released in 1978. This not enjoyable for me. I was glad it was a short album. It was just cliche filled country. There were so many other, better country albums from this era. It's either a 1 or 2 star album at best for me.

Shite. 1001 have you got it out for us? Sick of country music. Sorry Joe, just not for me. Only thing I like is the name of the album. In all seriousness, I just don’t really like this type of music. I don’t feel much connection to it.

Not my style. Jangly songs about nonsense. Feels really low risk. Honky Tonk is a descriptive title that’s about the highest compliment I can give it.

This could be any generic country album. Couple of interesting moments, but not something I'd consider 'must'.

I don't like Country, especially B-grade Country singers who don't deserve to be included here.

The fingernail song is pretty gross.

genuine ass :sob:

Not for me

Ok country singer. No real hits.

This is like sitting in a diner in Middle America at about 2.30 on a muggy afternoon. The plastic water cups on your table are fresh out of the washer, so they are hot enough to warm any water beyond room temp. The jukebox is playing up again, so it is just repeating the same three second stretch of music. There is a rusty ceiling fan on low, but it is so hot that it is only pushing warm air on to you. You have arrived just after the lunch time rush, so the kitchen can only offer you a chili con carne that is thermonuclear in heat. The bean to meat ratio is heavily favouring the beans, so you're pretty sure you're gonna shit yourself on the drive home. There is a dusty old cougar wearing leather and leopard print, keen to talk to you because your out-of-town accent arouses her.

Puts the 'try' into country. Insipid.

fine. i'm bored

I was not previously familiar with the artist or album, but from the cover and title, I would have guessed it was country. I did not care for this at all. It was painful to get through even though it's relatively short. I would not listen again.

she honks on my tonk till i masquerade

Wow never have I known that an album was going to get a 1 so fast. Still, I persisted and listened to the whole thing. The guitar tone is discordant with the general honky-tonky vibes in some places, more of a new wave tone than twangy. Odd

I have to admit that if this album was released today I still wouldn’t like it.

Honky tonk twat

Ugh. This is awful.

Did not listen

Boxcars is good. Most of these songs are so middle of the road country. A couple sound like big band jazz country. That must be why "he was considered a rebel of Texas music" Not great. Not good

Not my style.

1 stars

What if we made country music but boring?

I. Just. Can’t.

Nothing for me here. Softer than an Andrex factory, and I'd soon listen to their mascot puppy being taught to sing by the choir in Ely Cathedral.

A simple country album from an artist I've never heard of. Apparently, he sang the Spanish lyrics on Should I Stay or Should I Go. Lucky for him to get an album included in this book. It seems he's made other more popular works than this. It was pretty short and alright I suppose.

Lazy boring and uninspiring

2/10 - a country crossover with Elvis, bad

His second album. Country. Cornbread Moon - opening track, fuck me that was shit ! Ugh ! This album is corny as fuck. 'The trees bend becuse of the wind, almost all the time' Wow ! Well fuck me ! What lyrics ! The production and tones are all off. Apparently he somehow found himself opening for The Clash at a gig. He had beer thrown on him and was spit on by the British Punks. I don't blame them.

Boxcars Honky Tonk Masquerade

Didn't enjoy! Was looking forward to a country album, but it felt full of chiché lyrics and basic or discordant melodies. Not for me. *

1.5 - Bad

honky tonkin my schlong

I've heard better cuntry music in a Smokey and the Bandit movie!

I’m from Texas and enjoy Texas country sometimes, but any album with the words “honky tonk” in the title just isn’t for me. I got to Fingernails and I couldn’t take it anymore. Nobody wants to hear your fingernails clicking on the piano.

Should have "got the hell outta dodge" after track one. Whatever the honky tonk country phrase is for "No Thanks, not for me", I bet it's annoying

Waaayyy too country for my liking

Box Cars was a really good song but I hated every other song so much. Genuinely suffered through this album. Not a fan at all. 1/5 stars.

Cheesyyyy chord ending Cornbread Moon! Couldn't continue with the rest after two bars of 'Because of the Wind' - just so not my thing.

Honky Tonk AND Masquerade! No thank you.

Yeah nope. 1 star.

At least it was short Will I listen to again: 0%

No thank you. It’s even worse than I feared

single star as half star isn't an option. thought I could stomach all music....apparently not. not just bad, but really really bad.

No, no I don't think so. Thanks anyway

Jeesus christ, country music is the most boring genre for me.... Cadillac this, texas that, whiskey this, countryside that. Easiest genre to write lyrics. It tried to get bit more experimental like once in one song but it lasted like 10 seconds and then it was back to the same old sliding guitars. It's basicly like ok-ish dish with only spices and flavor being plain old table salt and nothing more. Not like vomit enducing but just so boring that you just play it in the background and leave it be.

Country is often a bit of a cursed genre for me but this honky tonkin’ missive felt especially corny and cheesy. The country crooning is the worst element for me but the production also seemed to be surprisingly synthy and very definitely dated. Tonight I Think I’m Gonna Go Downtown is one of the more serene cuts with its softer vocals and soothing pedal steel but then soon enough I’ll Be Your Fool comes along with its twinges of yodel and then the banks of country cheesiness completely burst with “I Keep Ma Fingernails Long So They Click When They Play The Piana” barroom cheeseblast.

Not everyone should make music and that’s okay. All jokes aside: Listen to 1. boxcars 2. Because of the wind Truthfully, you can skip the rest.

I can't.

Joe No.

Not sure what makes this essential. I could probably think of a few other things to listen to before I die (ever heard the Littlest Hobo theme song?).

This was absolute shite and I will never listen to it again! Unfortunately I cant give it 0 stars

I like to think of myself as someone who has a reasonably broad taste in music - but - Honky Tonk makes me want to stuff my ears full of 'Cornbread Moon', Pedal steel guitar is like 'Fingernails' down a chalkboard, so 'Tonight I think I'm gonna go downtown' to drown my sorrows because I just can't listen to anymore country music.

Even in a set of over a thousand albums, there's no excuse for more than one with "honky tonk" in the title, so I went into this with low expectations and even those were dashed.

Booooo

Shite. The purest shite imaginable

Context is everything... This album sounds like virtually any bar on Broadway in Nashville, which if the beer is cold and endless, it's a good time. But I'm not spending my Sunday morning listening to this crap.

Didn't really listen, didn't get hooked when I did

No thanks

Not my cup of tea

Meh. Not my thing.

Didn’t really do it for me, not enough honky in the tonk

One tonk honkied is one too many. Sadly this albums contains many honkied tonks and as such is rendered unlistenable. Sounds like it was recorded in a tunnel.

Musics good. Vocals don’t do it for me. Very shallow as well.

Rocking country

Skimmed through this album and did not vibe with anything

did not like. too jam bandy

I think the list took a detour down a country lane. As Fr Jack would say in Fr Ted ‘Nuns, nuns, reverse, reverse’

I dislike country Thosbis very pop Not my thing Dont feel anything was superb

Not for me. 1/5

This was a tough listen. Country just doesn't jive with me, man. The lyrics are full of platitudes, and the songs all just blend together like a boring country mess. If you're in a bar in Texas somewhere and you're hearing this in the background, I suppose it's authentic, but you'll forget it as soon as you're back home. Best songs: Boxcars Worst songs: I'll Be Your Fool, West Texas Waltz

I learned that having a Renault used to be worthy of a shout-out. Otherwise, songs with all the same tempo, the same trite cliches and some lyrics are downright weird. The few "innovative" elements don't push anything forward, in the end it is just blues music made boring.

cheesy

NEXT PLEASE 4,5/10 Highlights: Because Of The Wind (Deed me 1 seconde denken aan Gram Parsons)

4/10 Highlights

Not my kind

Country for me is either love it or hate it, and this is unfortunately a hate. This is the country music I grew up not liking, very radio country. Worst album I've gotten so far, and only a half hour I checked how much was left several times.

Would like this if doing a road trip across America, stopping at a roadside bar, dusty and rolling tumble weed, when ordering ice cool beer someone slips a dime into the juke box and this music comes on. But none of that is true and in my world C&W has no relevance at all. 1/5 5/10/24

I hated the fingernails song. This kind of country is not for me.

I don’t vibe with this

This is the first time thus far that I am changing my rating based on something that wasnt just my opinion of the musical parts. I was firm on thinking it had been a 2-ish experience until "I don't cut my fingernails so it clicks when I play the piano" was spoken. I found that so gross that I had to change the score Sometimes I wonder if I am just doing this entire 1001 albums challenge wrong. Are other people also listening to the entire album from start to end? I've read that some people just listen up until the end of the first chorus before going on to the next song to get a 'general idea' of how they find the song. Is everyone doing this? Albums like this are genuinely unlistenable and youre telling me almost 11.000 people have listened to it? You are nuts.

yee-naw

The kind of country everyone hates.

I disliked this sufficiently that I deleted each song from my history as soon as it played.

Nicht meine Richtung

I do not understand the appeal of this music. I was skeptical going in, and with the few bars thought, “Huh. Maybe this will surprise me!” But just a few moments later, my hopes were dashed. I just can’t stomach this type of country music: twangy, and somehow simultaneously boring and annoying.

Nope. Not my style.

Nothing to recommend

I hated it.

You're Serious? Let Me Laugh Even Harder!" Wertung: 💅(💅)/5

Nope. Farm emo bad.

country, 1978 -> 1

Not my cup of tea. I only started the one song and gave up.

Why did I have to hear this before I die?

Too much country

I just cannot get into Country, would be 2* except "I'll be your fool" which I really couldn't stand

Horrendous, it would get a zero if that was an option

I can't believe I was actually expected to listen to this awfulness

shove it up yer bollocks.

Probably shit

Þetta gerir nákvæmlega ekkert fyrir mig.

I knew I was in for a slog with a title like 'Honky Tonk Masquerade'. I try to be an open church. I'm accepting of most musical styles ... but I do struggle with Country and Western. I got through the album. It's not my thing.

Jos olisin kuunnellu ajellessani Hiluxilla pohjois-pohjanmaalla oisin antanu viis tähteä

tähän larppiin mä en pysty

Hey, maar dit is echt kut zeg!

Good lord, no thanks

Hard no! Beyond not my thing. I heard he opened for The Clash on a few dates and was spit on and punks threw beer at him. I would have been one of those punks that would have thrown beer if I was at that show.

Fuck off. No more country. Let's be real here - NOBODY listens to country music. We should stop treating it like a major music genre. It makes a lot of money? It's a huge industry? Third most popular genre in America? Nope. All fake. Conspiracy. Money laundering. Paid actors. Thought this book was British. There's really no need to pretend you care about this, Robert Dimery.

Urgh. Country. I guess if you like country, this might not be irredeemable pap. Unfortunately, for normal people, this is irredeemable pap.

Hated this. Bottom 10 for me.

Music to tap all eleven of your toes to 👍🏾

If I'm at your place and you unironically put this stuff on, I will straight up think less of you as a human being. It's vapid, uninspiring and there is absolutely nothing at stake here. Unless, of course, you are lighting up the dancefloor with your honky tonk - in which case, carry on!

Ah man, this is pretty shit to me. I feel like there's a fair reason why I had never heard of Joe Ely before... I prefer Country music from women artists so I didn't have high hopes but there's nothing really interesting, inspiring or captivating from this album. I find the melodies cheesy and not in a good way, the lyrics aren't speaking to me either. This song Fingernails is particularly disturbing and makes me feel a little bit sick hahaha. Overall, not impressed.
