Reviews (page 6 of 7)

A whooping 80k in sales? No wonder we needed this in the list. The bad news is it’s really not very good, the good news is we’re gonna give you 75 minutes worth of it. It’s not really music at all, just annoying blips and boops, with an occasional spoken word or moan added in. Even in a discount bin this is no bargain. But I managed to get through it, so 2 stars.

ahugavert drasl

Decent, mostly long instrumentals. Not sure why there's at least two albums by them on the list. Didn't really wow me

Siedettävä, mut etenkin kaks vikaa biisiä vaati tai ainakin kasvatti luonnetta, et jaksoi loppuun asti

I don’t believe there are words in my language that can properly explain what I felt when the first started playing. Fear mixed with anger along with some helplessness. Depression came when I scrolled down to see that the album was over an hour long. The only sense of joy came when it was finally over. There was a couple moments that I could stop hating and appreciate how solid the production was, but not for long. 2/5

Fuck this was long. I liked some of this as background music while working, but it was hard to get through the whole thing. I assume this is a pro for people who are into this kind of music, but it ended up as a con for me. This falls into the "it's good for what it is" bucket. 2.4

It didn't really connect with me.

it's electronic, yeah. It was background music while clearing the Leyndell, Royal Capital Outskirts. I'm going to burn that tree.

So slow. I can see why people like it though.

It's not that I disliked it, it's just that I have no idea what the fuck it's doing on this list.

I actually quite enjoy this horrendously titled album when it focuses on the ambient jazzy techno. The opening song is a great example. What I don’t like is Goldfrapp, the length and “Quality Seconds” in particular.

Perhaps my mood is just improved from when I had to trudge through Orbital 2, or Brown Album, but seemingly controversially I found this album to be just barely better than its predecessor. I think that comes from far more engaging hooks that feel less "holier than thou" in their delivery, as well as just catching my attention for longer periods. However, Orbital still tries to fight these enjoyable aspects by creating songs that refuse to end filled with frankly obnoxious verbal interjections that don't pose the same intrigue or mystery as an act like Boards of Canada, nor does the album do anything interesting with these chilled out grooves, just letting them hang for multiple minutes with no variation to a degree where I can only imagine a listener is blown away if they are tripping in some other way. A build up to a climax is always great, but stop edging me Orbital, seriously. Your contemporaries are way better, and I really don't want to resort to faking it.

Robo Mr. Krabs would love this one. Imo this album lands right im that area where it is too repetitive/boring/uninteresting to listen to actively, but too loud/energetic/annoying to have as background music. Just meh 2/5

Perhaps fantastic in 1994, with respect to technology available at the time. Now, Electronic music has developed so much since then, and today this just sounds dull

It was ok

How many UK techno albums will you guys force me to listen to?

Maybe the most interesting techno album from this challenge. Kein Trink Wasser was an insane track. Still a 2, sorry. Too long-winded and boring passages.

Kept listening to it while working and it passes the time nicely but doesn't hook me and allow me to lose myself in the music as I enjoy with other electronic music.

wtf fam

Not deep. But you can dance to it. Well, some of it. Minus one star for the final run of songs.

This was pleasant background music for working.

A nice output into ambient techno with a variety of sampling techniques to keep you interested.

Too much yet too little. No.

3.45 rym altro idm 2/5

An album with tracks of various sounds, rain/water dripping, buzzing noise, repetitive musical notes. Very few vocals.**

Old school.

Ho hum, bleep blop.

Rather repetitive (I know that's much of electronic music but this is repetitive in the boring way) and dated sounding. 4/10

I'm not sure if I would put this on the list of albums you should hear before you die. Is it bad?.........It's not horrible, but it is one long dance party rave. It's not really the type of music that I like to sit down and listen to. It is background party music.

ykw this is really starting to make me hate music. im not talking about just this album but this 1001 list sucks ass tbh. with generations like these makes me wonder how they even made it to the list in the first place. normally id steer clear away from shit i know i wouldnt like at a glance but with these generations as obligations made me realize that i had it good by just listening to shit i know id like before. anyway end of rant; album is so meh and drags on for so long. i wouldnt say its worse than that stinky haunted dancehall album but its real close to it. the length is just so brutal. i get that its to build the atmosphere but this album can really be cut in half and there wouldnt be a difference except for the length. this is like music theyd play when youre put on hold in a phone call and im not talking about the good kind like opus no 1. 2 personal favs: forever

Weird electronic music. Not necessarily bad but not for me.

I’m probably being inconsistent in my ratings but I don’t know how to handle these albums that I enjoy for background listening but would not seek out to actively listen.

Although it may have been reasonably relevant in its day, 30 years later, this isn’t very exciting at all. 75mins seems like a long time.

I mean... "I Wish I Had Duck Feet?" Zappa has a penchant for writing songs where the lyrics are meaningless to him. For the most part it was the music itself that was important. But there were songs where the lyrics had a message. So obviously an act that is doing electronic music where there are no lyrics can make titles that don't have to mean anything at all. But still... this just seems like a private joke that we won't get. Driving around in my car, the first few tracks had sound effects that made me wonder if there was a problem with my car. I had to turn the down the volume to check. "Philosophy By Numbers" - Technology... Philisophy... Technology... Philosophy... shut the f*** up, man. Quality Seconds was pretty good, I would have liked some more of that. I get the idea of maximizing the CD space for electronic music. But I would have rather to have the songs be shorter, as opposed to FIFTEEN MINUTE SONGS. It just felt like it went on forever. Next.

Why do these guys get two albums? Orbital 2 was their magnum opus (apparently) so I don't get this inclusion. It's more or less the same to me. Apparently there's a bit of an edge to it and a push-back against UK laws that were anti-rave? I don't hear it. How does one voice criticism without vocals? I heard either samples or cooing from Alison Goldfrapp (lovely, but not thought provoking). I didn't hate the, album but was kind of waiting for it to be over until Kein Trink Wasser hit with some nice piano/keyboard and Quality Seconds followed it with some abrasive rock stylings. Still, 75 minutes is way too long and it's a coin flip between a 2 and a 3. In the end no better than Orbital 2 and I gave that a 2. So there you go.

Some good tunes. But no anthems. Not the best.

Ok, nothing special

This got boring quick

high energy and repetitive. high energy and repetitive. high energy and repetitive.

Not my jam, maaaaaaaan

Cool music to have in morning while i did shit, but it dragged on way too fkn long and got annoying, way too repetitive

I'm struggling to find the reason behind this album being on this list

Another uninspired and boring 90s electronica album

This was always going to be a challenge for me because techno is not really my thing. Track one, Forever, genuinely felt like it was going to last forever. I appreciate the layering and the slow build that electronic fans enjoy, but I struggle with long instrumental passages that do not evolve enough to keep my attention. I Wish I Had Duck Feet is a brilliant track title, but unfortunately not a brilliant track. The whole album felt like being back in Cyberdog in Camden in the mid nineties. All neon lights and relentless beats, but not much emotional connection for me. I can hear the craft in the production and the ambition behind it, but as a listening experience it just is not something I connect with. Favourite song: None stood out for me Least favourite: The overall sound never clicked Album artwork: I actually really like the cover. Bold, colourful and far more engaging than the music for me

Elevator electronic. It was ok to listen to in the background. Not really sure how it ended up in yhe top 1001

Bleeps and bloops. As far as that goes, it's pleasant.

I get, but it’s boring AF.

Boring repetitive esounds

Orbital is a British electric music duo renown for being an early contributor to the rave scene in England.

Not really my jam

Snivilisation is the third studio album by Orbital, originally released in 1994. I already got the other Orbital album that's on this list, with the brown cover. I believe that was the album released before this one. I definitely found myself vibing with this one a bit more, specifically the track "Science Friction". Now, I'm not very well-versed in electronic music, but I can see how this would've sounded pretty ahead of its time in 1994. Listening in 2024, however, one can see it hasn't aged particularly well. The tracks meander a lot longer than needed. I also don't feel as though the vocal samples add much. If anything, they detract in a lot of cases. Apparently the group moved to a more dnb sound after this record and I can kinda hear them inching towards that sound on these tracks, so that was cool. Probably sounds better off molly.

Just not feeling this one. Had I been on a beach in Ibiza recovering from a monster night out, then maybe I'd have enjoyed it a lot more. As it stands, I was sitting at my desk working. So, yeah, didn't feel it.

This wasn’t bad or anything, I just couldn’t finish it. It sounded like the music they play during intimate scenes in Lifetime movies

Sounded alright but boring. Long songs too.

“Can you turn that stupid music off”-my brother. Usually he’s way out of line but today I think I agree w him. Not really into the electronic techno thing they’ve got going on. Not offensive but most definitely not exciting. I think my reviews have been unduly critical lately and I blame that on my mother so apologies to everyone on her behalf. 4/10

So much of each song was the same and it wasn’t that fun to listen to

At the time, British electronic music had so much more to offer, I'm not surprised I've never heard of these blokes. This feels unfinished.

boring electronic music

listening to this album is like feeling sick

Lotta beeps and boops, good background music, probably could’ve gone without hearing

Not bad but not my style I like lyrics

Orbital just aren't my type of dance music. If I was pulled up in a field I'd probably love it but as I'm not, I don't.

Ahh another mediocre techno album. So much of the electronic music stuff on here, it ages poorly and doesn't sound exceptionally amazing. I live in the techno capital of the world so even if it's a genre I really dislike, I hear better versions walking down the street. I do like Alison Goldfrapp but even she can't save this. Also too damn long.

I don't know if I need to say again that I don't like Orbital, but I must say that album looks like a courageous release. They were really trying to say something with their songs; it's me who doesn't get it. I enjoyed the (unexpected) "Quality Seconds."

Some songs are pretty boring and repetitive. Overall it sounds pretty archaic. Some beats were pretty good and would be pretty hype coked up on a dancefloor. Others had some sounds that caused mysophonia and were torture.

More noise than music to me

I wanted to give it a 1 because I have given such good albums a 2. But I just can't give it a 1. It was too good for that. We need a better rating system

Listened to this while making breakfast for my kids. When it was in the background it was fine. When my attention shifted to the music and I actually listened, it was 90's techno hold music. Not horrible, but will not seek it out.

Terrible!

Weirdly this album really helped me focus while I was working. Other than that it was just okay.

This entire album is full of wet farts. It's gross.

It was nice to work to but didn't push the needle much

Goes on for a long time. Not bad but not awesomeness to zone out with on in the background. Probably not setbreak material

When I started listening, I thought this might have potential to go somewhere. Unfortunately, for my taste, it got worse instead of getting better. Not offensive or bad, but feels pretty generic.

I enjoy a bunch of electronic music. Thought this one was just fine. Not my favorite.

Every now and then an interesting idea pushes through the cracks, but this mostly sounds like PlayStation 1 loading screen music. That's not an original observation, I've made it before on this app. That said, I don't think this album warrants too much brainpower.

All I got from this was an image of a bunny bashing a set of drums and wishing I has bought the cheap brand.

Not my jam.

Not for me

This album unfortunately peaks with the very first song. That song is so good that it is a shame no others really come close in terms of me wanting to listen to them again. There are a few other tracks that might be worth revisiting, but I'd really only stick with just a small handful

Ambient breakbeats. Not bad if that's what you're looking for.

This is becoming a trend. Random band random album and its not even their consensus best work. I mean, this group has two albums rated higher than this one, so how can this be a 1001 need to hear record?

Nice background music, higher energy. Not really my thing but I get it.

Just not my thing.

Als Soundtrack fürs Arbeiten im Homeoffice ok. Bewusstes Hören? Nein!

yay, early-90s electronica. woo hoo

Mixed bag, a few positives surprises, but also some … strange ones.

Pretty repetitive. Might be good in the right mood though

This could make a nice video game soundtrack; it is pleasant and not distracting. But a standalone album of chill electronic music only made sense before the modern state of the internet. I could not tell the difference between this stuff and a random track on one of the numerous "music for studying" playlists. And I'm sure Orbital's contribution was significant for the development of electronic music, but now that the genre is no longer novel and interesting, the only people who will care about this album are the ones who owned a copy back in the '90s and listened to it many times.

So generic sounding. It had all the generic beats and chanting overlay that all the early to mid-90s artists had when trying to break into the electronica scene. Soooo boring.

Decent electronic record. Takes some interesting turns (Quality Seconds). Really liked Kein Trink Wasser, that piano riff reminded me of All My Friends. The Alison Goldfrapp led Are We Here? is also great. I think there is some social commentary weaved into the samples, but I’m not well versed enough in early 90s UK issues to connect with that.

Nothing memorable for me about this one.

As with many of the DnB and electronic records on this list, it's pretty long, but this one wore on me a bit quicker than some of the others. I think it's how dated it sounds: it's definitely easy to pinpoint when this came out. Allison Goldfrapp saves this from the one star graveyard. Favorite tracks: "Sad But True"

Not for me

Was a bit disappointed by this. I wasn't sure what I expected from Orbital but for whatever reason I didn't get on with it much at all. Listened to it on a run so I did try to give full attention.

I quite liked the first track, found it really interesting but there's only so much of this kind of music that I can listen to. It's definitely interesting and clever but just too much for me

I recognize this artist from 1 song, but this is a blind album. And I did not enjoy this. Some notable tracks had some style in my mind but overall would not recommend this to anyone. The bad outweighed the good.

I'm starting to sense a pattern in the types of electronic music that make their way onto this list. The author seems very fond of ambling, somewhat esoteric 90's-era albums. I appreciate low-key vibes as much as the next person, but I wouldn't hate something with a bit more meat.

I like techno, but I don't think ambient techno is quite my thing, dull and overly repetitive in many places.

decent

Completely average electronic music

I enjoy electronic but this was not the best in my opinion. Just kind of boring.

Probably good idk.

Chill electronic background music. 2/5

Boring, monotonous, background techno. Don't see the appeal. People who use drum machines should figure out how to do fills and tempo changes.

Interesting early electronic music, strange vibe

really wanted this to be over, not terrible but for sure boring. old electronica can be soooo hit or miss. boring stinker

I feel like I need to be in the right headspace to listen to this album. It has a spacey and robotic feeling without a lot of melody. Not my favourite.

Interesting early edm type

Felt like video game background music.

I’m sorry to fans of this genre but I have yet to see any value in it

meh, not so much my style

s this album actually called Snivilisation? thats so funny -beginning of this first song is cool -THE TRANSITION RIGHT INTO THE NEXT SONG WITH THOSE SOUNDS -loved that. it just continued right on -i wish i had duck feet is so real because me too -this isn’t super my thing but im intrigued -now hold on sad but true goes hard -why is there a 15 minute song. why -some of these songs are too long and they’re not interesting enough to keep me engaged

Please no more mediocre electronic music, Mr British guy

It's not the worst album on here, but it's hardly essential. I forgot it was on a couple of times

Found this much less offensive than Orbital 2, but it's still music by computers. Take a 3s sound clip, loop for 10 minutes.

The easy criticism of this album is, its far too long. And i believe that to be true. I don't think the two songs at the end (12 mins and 15mins) are the issue, I would cut numerous songs from the middle and make the album more palatable and more manageable. I would compare the album unfavourably to the Röyksopp album on this list. Which i found to be more interesting, but i should state that there isn't a bad song on this album, its just that its very forgettable and when i finished it, i wasn't rushing back for a second listen. I did however, give it a second listen, but I will not revisit this album unless i was using it as background music while i played a computer game. I was originally leaning towards a 3, but I have a rule that it can only get a 3 if i would revisit the album, and i dont think i would, so gonna say a big old TWO

As boring as you would expect from an album named after a circular motorway. Ok background music, but not engaging. Endearingly odd a couple of times, in quite a dull way.

Vous me le paierez un jour Orbital, vous me le paierez

I'm kinda partial to ambient techno, but this didn't really do it for me. Samples were annoying and compositions just weren't that interesting, the longer songs towards the back end really dragged. Not my favorite. 2.5/5

Why this when In Sides is right there?

There's nothing here really is there? I like the odd piece of electronica but it needs to have a lot more substance than 'sounds you hear in the background' to deserve more than a low 2.

Maybe it's because I'm just back from the dentists, but found this more grating than interesting. Not my genre anyway, really, but it seemed more repetitive than most of this stuff we've had. That said (and this feels like a total contradiction of what I just wrote), there's loads of variety between the tracks - the contrast between Kein Trink Wasser, Quality Seconds, and the beginning of Are We Here? which are one after the other is crazy. 2/5 - they've tried some interesting stuff but it doesn't work for me.

Best Song: Kein Trink Wasser. I liked the piano at the beginning. Worst Song: Forever. Sure, let's just end the song with a full 30 seconds of the sounds of pissing. Was that supposed to be rain? Overall: Some glimpses of interesting material here and there. The division of songs seems partly arbitrary, as the genre can radically switch within a single song, but also some songs (e.g., Quality Seconds) seem so wholly out of place that I wonder what they're doing here. It feels like an album in desperate need of careful editing, but I'm not sure what would be left once edited.

Not a huge edm enjoyer by itself, but I can appreciate it.

I just think this was so incredibly boring and repetitive. Like I didn’t find it offensive or disgusting that it was ever made but after like two songs I was done yet it kept going for another hour. Wayyy to long for all the songs to be the same.

Did not mind this in the background while working but it's not my thing. Very repetitive so easy to ignore largely. Some tracks I disliked though, the ones which got a bit too dancey. Quality seconds was particularly grating I didn't actively dislike much of it, but I won't be going back. 2 seems generous... 1.5

Since the dawn of time man has strived for continuous improvement and growth. Today marks the day when we all have to stop and take in what an incredible achievement this Orbital record is. We have failed.

Album van het Britse techno-duo Orbital. Tracklist omvat lange, instrumentale dancenummers.

I suppose this is music.

I can’t give this a one because it’s not irritating to listen to but this was the most boring, “can I put you on hold for an 75 minutes” album I’ve gotten in a while. Like I get that it’s supposed to be ambient but Jesus dude. The penultimate track was about as good as it got

Head in hands, ears peeking through my fingers, I began this 75 minute album by electronic duo Orbital. “Snivilisation” is their third album, bringing their fusion of techno-rave and ambient sound to their largest audience yet (months after a star-making performance at Glastonbury 1994). Its concept on the foibles of society has it placed under the dubious umbrella of IDM, as though it’s more worthy of praise than other techno albums because it has “something to say”. Here’s the thing: I didn’t mind “Snivilisation”. I’ve listened to it a couple of times, once while working during the day and once just after waking up while still in a dream state, and both times I’ve found a fair bit to like. It’s very well produced, with a range of different beats and synths layering up over each other, shifting the soundscape every few minutes. It also feels surprisingly non-repetitive for such a long album. “Forever” is a good intro, and there’s the lovely “Kein Trink Wasser”, with a choppy piano intro which LCD Soundsystem surely ripped off for “All My Friends”. Later in the album, “Are We Here” is an odyssey of a track, with the highlight being the fantastic break just before the 9 minute mark. Alison Goldfrapp’s vocals suit this brilliantly: mysterious and ethereal (actually, Cocteau Twins’ Elizabeth Fraser would have been the perfect choice, but you can’t win ‘em all). But much of “Snivilisation” falls under the same pitfalls as many electronic albums I’ve had so far: call me shallow, but I end up longing for more concise structure or traditional song-craft. The relentless, soulless industrial drives of “Crash and Carry” or “Quality Seconds” do absolutely nothing for me. There’s also some attempt to conceptualise the whole album as a commentary on consumerism and society’s urge to catalogue, label, track. It brings to mind a more socially conscious “My Life in the Bush of Ghosts”, geared towards contemporary Western society rather than an “imagined” one. Fair enough, and an interesting through line, but it makes for some intrusive vocal samples at times (constant invitation to study different subjects in “Philosophy by Numbers”, or “I Wish I Had Duck Feet” combining a circus freak show ringmaster with advertisements for cosmetic surgery. We get it, you’re doing a satire, let’s not be too on the nose). “Snivilisation” has some interesting things going for it, and I could have it on in the background without too much protesting, but it’s unlikely to ever become a go-to thanks to my prevailing genre bias.

May have said this before but i bet it sounds great in a club....however in my car its its a but dull and repetitive. It (unlike, say, the first Aphex album) doesn't do enough to hold my attention. Disappointing. 2.5

I'm a bit conflicted on this one. It's certainly one of the better, more interesting electronica albums I've gotten. But, as with every 90's electronica album, it's way too long... A 15 minute song and a 12 minute song back to back right at the end? It really makes you work to finish the album. It was kind of hard to get through due to it's length alone. Probably would be a 3 star if it wasn't 75 minutes long. I probably would have given their other album a 2 nowadays as well. My favourite song was Philosophy by Numbers.

It's not working for me, it just kind of sits in the background. There's not really any fully defined songs - it's more like different experimental soundscape phases. That's not bad in itself, it's just that those soundscapes have nothing much to them. Ps: The album name and cover are terrible. Who signed that off?

Some pretty annoying sounds all around on this one.

Electronic is tough. Despite the length of this, it wasn’t the worst, but definitely not for me.

Appreciate the innovation on this album, however, it is not my kinda sound.

90’er elektronisk, god i baggrunden, lidt for langt

1 or 2 of the songs weren't horrible.

Definitely something I usually get excited about hearing for the first time... First impression was a little less than expected. Hope it grows on me! 2.5

Traditional Orbital chillout stuff.

Boring

notes - Third album by electronic duo orbital - Techno / idm - I don’t have a huge knowledge of electronic music, as I said in my aphex twin review so bear with me - Released as a response to the British government passing laws that allowed them to break up raves - Disrupting the popular rave scene at the time - Knowing that this is rave music definitely helped with my expectations going in - Just sit back and vibe more than full active listening fav - I wish I had duck feet - I really like the samples and percussion least fav - Kein trink Wasser - Like the change of pace but its a bit much 2.5/5 - quite long, not really for me

When Spotify offered up the Aphex Twin after playing this it helped me articulate what Orbital is missing: the songs are rhythm tracks waiting for a catchy melody or hook to be played over top but they never come. That said, this music was likely pushing the needle forward in 1994, and Orbital has always been central player in the rave movement, which was declared illegal around the time of this release. Their name (and maybe the names of Orb and William Orbit) refers to DJs and fans orbiting London looking for farmer's fields to play in. In that sense this is a protest album.

I’m embarrassed to say that I have this album. I think I played it once when I first got it and it’s been collecting dust ever since. 1001 forced me to re-listen to it again so I tried to go in with an open mind. Nope, it’s still mind numbingly boring and repetitive. If you’re looking for electronica or techno music there are many better alternatives.

I don't really know what this music is for. Perhaps cooking to? It's nice, but it's not anything.

very repetitive so far, some of these tracks feel like the same couple of seconds on repeat for 4+ minutes quality seconds was an interesting change of style 90s techno music still isn't my kind of music

It was ok.. It has an almost cheap electronic sound as if made by crap bought at Radio Shack.

Another uninspiring briefest of an electronic album.

It's fine but I have no idea why I had to hear this before I died. It's good background music, but nothing more than that.

This band put the no in techno. Best track: Kein Trink Wasser

i have never been to a rave, i only used X once in my life and that was when friends made me go see Phish with them, i was all relaxed and super flirty, when they played "Twist Around" i did the "Whoo!" in the wrong place and everyone nearby looked at me like i was a narc, anyway writing this review has been far more interesting to me than listening to this record was

While not unenjoyable as background music, in the grand scheme of albums it unfortunately just doesn't impress me much

I don't wish I had duck feet, and now I'm very uncomfortable about duck feet... that messed with my brain. This whole album is repetitive chaos.

For when you find yourself having to DJ a Pacman themed party. Choice cut - Are We Here? 2/5 dots 🟡🟡

Interesting

Cool sound, very ~videogame-OST~ sounding. A little dated in it's "coolness" I would say though. This came out in 1994 and these sounds are definitely ones that I would use for a retro videogame type of sound. The songs do flow into each other nicely. Overall it's sort of repetitive. I know that's typical of this genre but I didn't love it. I kind of hate the album cover. The cars surrounding the walkman-person are interesting but the character is just so goofy looking.

Starts interesting but quickly progresses to background music.

OK as background noice.

Didn't listen all the way through. Some interesting sounds on "I Wish I Had Duck Feet" but overall the album felt repetitive and dull.

I typically like a lot of electronica but most of this album just felt like random noise. I didn't enjoy it. 2/5

An interesting listen. It has some clear 90s themes and riffs combined with a lot of strange noises. kinda liked it, will listen to it again. And more of their work most probably.

Was a lot

Meh, tråkig elektronika.

Had on shuffle, didn't mean to. Lost interest. Decent stuff but beep boops don't hold my attention all that well

About as boring as it gets

It's techno music. An entire album of it is unnecessary.

Pretty meh.

This went from rave, to elevator music, to 2000s PC game music, and back. Not really for me.

Man, this kind of music just does not do it for me.

Unfamiliar with them. Started off great then went south quickly. Listened but don't remember. Orbital 2 is two albums away - hopefully better.

Falls straight into the outdated 90s techno/acid house bucket. Overlong and underwhelming tracks means this LP is only good as a reminder of decades past, one that’s probably not worth too many revisits at that.

It's fine, but not a genre of music I'd really listen to. Could be good for working.

Just a load of uninteresting blips and bloops

Sometimes decent, sometimes painful, really long

repetitive, so boring

didn't finish

Had some interesting moments, but it was a bit of a chore and I'll probably never listen to this again.

Um, not my thing.

idk what to expect from the cover. its good but boring i think

I like Orbital in bite sized chunks. Especially their versions of the Saint and Doctor Who themes. they're bangers. Satan and The Box slap too. This album though. too long. too boring. too self indulgent.

Meh. I don't dislike ambient music, I just don't see the point. You can't sit and listen to it. You can't dance to it, unless you're on acid, and it's too intrusive for me to have on while working. It would be fine, but the voice samples are very annoying.

The project has its high moments and is a fine background record. But it's also far too long and uneven in quality, interest, and genre.

Not really be my cup of tea

Just because it’s British doesn’t mean it’s good or a “must listen to.” Sub-par techno.

Did not age well. I think in the right timeline and with enough drugs people would enjoy this, but I don't hear much to like in this.

Very OTT. Not my vibe, but an interesting listen.

Alku hyvä, mut sit sukellettiin aika sakeisiin ysärisoundeihin eikä enää muutenkaan mitään säväyttävää. 2.5/5

4/10. Some of the songs are actually pretty enjoyable, but most of those still go on way too long.

Glad I don't ever have to listen to this again. 3/10

First song was ok, 2nd song made me want to pee... it all went downhill from there.

standard issue electronic music

This project so far has had its fair share of electronica in this playlist. Each has been in its own niche. This one fits in the "long and repetitive" niche. I laughed out loud when I read it was on a list of the 25 best dance albums ever, as I had spent a lot of the time listening to it thinking, "how would you dance to this?" Not that there aren't some cool things here. But I noticed that there was a vast difference between my feeling after listening to the entire album (minus 3 minutes, see below) and listening to 30 second samples of each track for a review. The first eight notes of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, for example, is brilliant. Hearing it repeated over and over for 9 minutes without ever moving on to another phrase would make me murderous. "Forever" was a good and hopeful start to the album for me. I liked the sound of it quite a bit. "I Wish I Had Duck Feet" was an interesting collection of sounds and percussion. Still liking the album although both tracks were overly long. "Sad but True" was where it started getting on my nerves. "Crash and Carry" was your standard '90's dance club beat, but I always found those boring and long. "Science Friction" had an interesting enough sound but like so much of this album, repeated ad infinitum. I liked the voice samples in "Philosophy by Numbers" but not much else. "Kein Trink Wasser" went on forever in a piano-pounding, nerve-fraying way. "Quality Seconds" then blared out of the speakers and I thought my music player had malfunctioned. Very jarring but mercifully short (if still repetitive). "Are We Here" went on for twice as long as the songs I've labeled "too long." And I will confess that I skipped about three minutes towards the end of the 12.5 minutes of "Attached." I was just feeling done with it. Did I miss anything?

Wow quelle album bizarre. Je n’ai pas detester mais cest un peu too much electro. Quand mem bon mais a petite dose 3.15

Hard to listen to

Only got about 3 songs in. Snooze fest

I was feverish and had a headache while listening to this, which might have affected my reaction to it. Kind of like the time I binged Black Mirror while in the hospital recovering from surgery. Not a great idea. This just sort of made my head want to explode. 2 stars.

I honestly didn’t think the music could irritate me more than this album’s stupid title but it really outdid my expectations. Literal hatred: I refuse to believe the laudatory reviews about this overlong trudge of pretentious monotony can represent anything other than drug nostalgia.

First Listen. Pretty much good background music. Don't know if this one will grow on me with more listens. 2/5 for now.

Didn’t like. Made my head hurt. Not a fan of techno

Bad taste poppy electro.

It's fine for the elevator or going to bed.

Eh very spacey, pretty strange, probably won't return to it.

Mid-nineties dance. Important, but I guess you had to be there in the field. BT: Forever, Sad But True, Crash and Carry

Iets te abstract voor mij.

I wish I had duck feet as well, but I'm not really sure I understand the song. At all. I'm reminded of playing SSX for some reason. And for that, you get two.

Probably good for what it is? It was fine as background

A smile when I saw this long lost album. Then I heard it and realized why it was forgotten.

its aight, just trance

I like the one that went bee boo boo bop

la techno c'est pas interessant

And it's more UK 90s techno. Author really lets you know when he has favourite little scenes - this is a complete non event of an album and there's no legit reason it should be on the list. Just nameless, boring techno. And 75 minutes of it! 2/5.

That was a lot of randomness

I'm shrugging my shoulders. It's something outside my comprehension. Geez these extra records are pretty shit. I'm sure Dimery is about to line up another 20 Bjork/Sonic Youth and Coldplay records just to rub it in.

Just worthless

Orbital has 2 more albums than they should have on here (2)

Ouvir isto depois do A Night at the Opera é um crime

Insane

Not very good, very boring not Kuch happened. Sounds like the default school keyboard beat.

Monotonous and boring. 90's trap never did much for me and now it is simply ambient background music.

Including Orbital's Snivilisation in the list feels like a major misstep, as its historical relevance to the 90s UK rave scene doesn't justify a grueling, 75-minute listen that largely misses the mark. While "Sad but true" injects a unique, genuine underground rave energy and "Forever" starts and ends on strong notes, the rest of the tracklist quickly derails into a frustrating mix of mediocrity and outright irritation. From the baffling confusion of "Philosophy by numbers" to the amateurish feel of "Kein trink wasser" and the abrasive noise of "Quality seconds," the album suffers from a massive deficit in consistency and modern appeal. Ultimately, a couple of decent moments cannot rescue a project weighed down by so many skipped tracks, proving that just because an album is deemed "culturally significant" by a checklist doesn't mean it deserves a spot on your personal rotation.

Absolute crap

I can't stand a single track; I won't be listening to them anymore.

Dear Orbital: I was well on my way to giving you the two stars you deserved for being somewhat dull, meandering, and repetitive. Then you “gifted“ me the last two tracks on your album, clocking in at 15+ and 12+ minutes, respectively. I now must dock you a full star for crimes against humanity, and if it were possible, I would award you exactly ZERO stars for the 75 minutes I just spent in the ninth circle of aural Hell.

Just so so.

I was a senior in college in ‘94 when this album came out. Thankfully, I was too busy doing college things to have noticed it then. I remember going to a banging Halloween Party dressed as a sexy Asian cat. I was hot! I met some fool dressed like the Joker from Batman - and not the cool scary Joker, but some lame old-man version. Whatever. We got drunk and hooked up. But he was so self-conscious and weird he’d only go down on me IN full costume and makeup. And then he bailed before sex. What a loser. Like this album. I never heard from him again. Also, just like this album.

Zuhause, Gerstetten, Deutschland. Zeitverschwendung.

Yeah, no - I had to tap out of this one. Utter crap.

Just some random aah shit fr. Definitely unique but not in a good way.

Not for me

Elevator music

This was awful. If the show Severance had a dentist's office, this would be what plays in the waiting room. If Suno was available in the 90s, this is what it would come up with. Beep-beep-bop ... ugh.

EDM isn't for me so I'm not surprised I didn't enjoy this, but it was far more boring than I anticipated. Not sure if I need to hear this before I die.

This band is horrible so boring

Too many bleeps. Not enough bloops.

why are there so many albums just like this on this list. I did not enjoy it. I never enjoy them.

For the love of god I really dont want to listen to this.... Well I guess ill do it. This was such an annoying listen... dont know why this is on the book. I wish to ever hear music like this again.

A huge collection of noises and beebs and bops

Drivel. Geometry dash ahh. There's a reason you need to have temporarily have lost half your brains cells to listen to this beep boop crap

Could not get the album

The Good: NOTHING The Bad: Everything The Ugly: … There are times that I really don’t understand the criteria for having bands represented on this list, and then there are times that I am really trying to understand why these bands have more then 1 entry… I will not repeat all those bands who are NOT represented on this list, or which bands should have more than 1 album… Orbital, together with several of the other useless electronic shit that is cast upon us via this list, is NOT something one needs to hear before one dies… well, that is not true, we should all be exposed to 1 album of electronic shit, so that we can all agree that it mostly is shit. Caveat, 1 album full of electronica is shit, 1 song might not be that bad… but this plink plonk garbage made me break my own rule of listening to an album all the way through—to consider that when I started this journey almost 2 years ago I was making myself listen to all albums twice, just to be certain my opinion wouldn’t change… 1*

Even more shit UK Electronica.

Electronica for goobers.

Definitvely not a 1,001 album. Electronic music has nothing to do here. Maybe one or 2 but this was in the 90 a lot of electronica had already been done but nothing really special or ground breaking to my knowledge.

Bit to instrumental for me pourquoi

Well... this is not much interesting. At least it's not horrible, but too slow and boring. Atmospheric? Of course. But the worst of atmospheric albums is that some take it as an exacerbation of boring music that does not go anywhere. It was cool as background music? At times, as at others this album also becomes a bit annoying. So, I don't have much to say, it's not an album I would ever listen to. And I won't ever repeat that musical experience. I haven't enjoyed it the least.

Mostly instrumental electronic music? Hard pass. Best song: I Wish I Had Duck Feet

maybe it's because i'm not from the uk, but i can't fathom anyone choosing to listen to this much electronic music. it's like elevator music, but not even good elevator music. this is lazy elevator music.

The one that was all keys was ok.

It made for some fine and at times interesting chill background music, but do we really need two albums from these guys?

For me, this is less music and just noise. 🤷‍♂️

A 1-2* 'tweener, but dragged so much I gotta downgrade. 1.75/5

Boring and Some of the songs are actually painful to get through

Pretty meh tbh, repetitive, maybe it was ahead of its time but now it just sounds uninspiring. 1 - doesn't deserve to be on this list

horrid

0.6/5 Am I missing something? Do I need to be on drugs to appreciate this? I can't understand how this is revered so much. It's so vanilla, boring and uninteresting without any good hooks throughout an hour of music. Look it's not bad music, i'm just confused as to why it's on this list. Perplexed.

This probably deserves a higher rating than a 1, but I’m kind of over noise albums.

very not memorable and long as FUCCCCKKKKK jesus christ

Orbital – Snivilisation (1994) On Day 59, Snivilisation was a massive struggle to get through. I was expecting something with an electronic funk energy, but it ended up sounding like a collection of boring, weak ringtones. I honestly cannot see why this was included in the "1001" list. It lacked any real momentum or interest, making the 75-minute runtime feel like a total chore. It’s easily a 1/5—completely failed to hit the mark.

Are We Here?

I honestly wanted to like this but absolutely couldn't, just the most grating uninspired industrial house you can imagine.

so bad

did not care for this at all.

More mindless, repetitive, and empty techno. I feel dumber after hearing this

mmmm no mucho

More electronic Brit music? Why are these albums always so long? Really, half an album is plenty to get a hold of the genre. Only someone really, really into it can tell - or cares to - one track from the next.

great music for when there's a technical issue at the gig

Not my style, and even by electronic music standards, it feels incredibly generic. Background music for some cyberpunk movie.
