Reviews (page 7 of 8)

Wonderfully produced, but lyrics are a constant bummer.

This is very late 90s boring pop

I was not familiar at all with their work. Great background music. Vocals are clean and good back beats but nothing jumps out at me. Just a lot of the same. Great chill music but I won’t be looking for them on my own!

She has such a nice voice, it’s a shame she’s singing such dull, uninspired music.

Boring and depressing. Not 1 star bad but this was not a pleasant listen.

✅ this is alright. I can see how it might've been important in the genre at the time, but imo it's been eclipsed by artists who do it better. Glad to know of it.

Not for me

I liked the 'Missing' remix from their previous album, but never liked their folky style. This on the other hand is a cash-in on that remix and they really did try hard to replicate that electro sound themselves. Yes just throw away your folk beliefs and morals and go for the money. I didn't mind the singles when it came out, but I can't say they grabbed me in any way. A 2 star effort.

never bad but pretty dull throughout. if it was 40 minutes i’d give it a 3 but the extra 10 minutes just drags it out too far

Was ok

90s electronica. Like a less arty Massive Attack. Rating: 2/5 Playlist track: Walking Wounded Date listened: 08/06/24

I was expecting to hear a song about missing you like the deserts miss the rain. I didn't hear it. I moved on with my life.

Pretty bland and boring throughout. Standout song: Wrong

Better than the other one on the list but both are of questionable inclusion. Another reminder that overall, this list is not a very good one.

Yeesh. It wasn’t bad per se, but it was super boring. Like most of it sounded like background music to a video game with uninspired vocals. I was waiting for it to be over

Electro jazz pop vibes, enjoyable and set me on an electronic day but didn’t love

I like EBTG but this is a bit dull…

1. Weird that this pops up immediately after Idlewild 2. I’ve always had the impression that EBTG did a hard pivot to mellow dance after the unexpected success of the ‘Missing’ remix by Todd Terry 3. I had no factual information in support of this presumption other than the stark difference between that and the Rod Stewart cover on Idlewild. I’d never consciously listened to anything else they did 4. There is a chronological gap between Idlewild and Walking Wounded. Still, one can see a common thread linking the two. 5. Music enthusiasts are condition to listen in genres. This is unfortunate, and takes a lot of effort to overcome. All that said. I didn’t really like this. It’s ok for what it is etc, but I don’t think I’d actively seek out a listen to this album again. Ironically (or not) the Todd Terry remix of ‘Walking Wounded’ is (I think) the best thing on the album.

Fine, I probably won't listen to again

Grandad, what did the background sound like in the 90’s?

Nothing special

Sounded like the same song the whole album.

Solid production, great sounds but I couldn't really get excited about any of the songs.

I don’t typically like music like this, but I listened to the whole album. Probably will be a one-time listen for me though. Something about the singers voice is annoying to me.

Too boring.

Pish, the sound of an indie band trying to make dance music because of a hit remix - the same reason moloko failed after sing it back. A couple of decent songs, and they seem like nice people, but there is absolutely no need for this to be included on the list.

It's a bit of a sad album overall. Not particularly fun in any way.

It's the bed confined wounded that worry me.

This doesn't do a whole lot for me. I like Tracy Thorn's voice, and the music is alright, but nothing that really wows me or holds my interest much.

Here's one that is just ok. It was trip hop-adjacent but not enough thst I liked it very much. There's better versions of this. Too milquetoast, not brave enough. 2.25/5

2/5 Ok

molto generico

I don't know if the maker of this list a particular fan of this genre or is it just me. It doesn't click. It's a bunch of organized noise. In some cases, some artists put it in nice tunes. Here is a standard "banging on all of electronics" and nice female vocal. Not for me.

Bland store pop. Felt like I was sitting through a 90’s teen romcom. “She’s all that”/“Ten things I hate about you” vibes

I don’t know what it is about EBTG but I just can’t warm to them. Partly it’s the music - it’s just not my thing (doesn’t mean it’s not good) and partly Tracy Thorn’s voice which again is not my thing (and again doesn’t mean it’s not good). Having said that, check out their version of The Only Living Boy In New York - stunning.

Overall just not very interesting

Not really my thing, though not terrible. 2/5

I was haunted by Missing for what seemed like half of my teens as it was not just everywhere, but also repeatedly stuck on the clothes shop hour-long mixtape I worked in over and over again. So I hate the song which propelled them to fame. Though I do understand they were indie darlings before a dance remix made them briefly chart botherers, and I recognise Tracey Thorn has a fantastic voice, and love Protection. I stuck the non dance version of Missing on in the middle of this and it's quite obviously a good song, this version was tolerable, much of the emotional clout was stripped out of the original by Todd Terry it seems, I just have bad associations with it's enormous overplay. Not particularly looking forward to the album after they found success with dance however. 'Wrong' is exactly the sort of diminishing returns song I imagined would come after Missing, and I recognise it but it didn't haunt me so I merely have no feelings about it. It's just kind of downbeat depressive dance music. I like dance music, and I like downbeat music, so why am I so unmoved? Nobody knows. The song Walking Wounded is easily the standout. I definitely always misheard the lyric as "nothing can replace the ass on you". Obviously this lead on to stuff like Dido (oops) and EBTG disappeared. Also, melancholy vocals were littered through trance stuff, but that worked for me because of the soaring euphoric backing. Melancholia over minimalist beats doesn't click for me. See also The XX, probably the most obvious spiritual successors to this group. Aside from 3-4 songs I can take or leave them.

Chill cocktail hour electronica

Eh. It just kinda kept going.

Thoughts before listening: I don't know a ton about these guys other than that I believe they are electro Euro-pop and that they had a few hits in the 90s. They definitely were bigger in Europe than the US. Review: I saw another review that said this is the sound of trying on clothes at Gap in the 90s...and yeah thats about right. Slow, soulful singing over non-descript techno beats. Its pleasant music I guess but not for me. I am giving this 2-stars cause its not offensive, but also pretty boring.

Her voice is very nice but this album was booooooring

Warbly synths and trip-hop beats can't make up for the absence of good songs or melodies. I've heard better from EBTG. 2/5

Ultimately, this was a chill, ambient easy pop album. Nothing about it was particularly exciting, though, and again, it didn't feel revolutionary in any way. I would say I enjoyed this at about a 2.5, but the lack of anything substantial is causing me not to really want to round it up.

I thought it was Sade most of the time but then sometimes it put me in mind of Annie Lennox. I didn’t have strong feelings about it but it was listenable.

Just felt like a Diet Coke version of Thievery Corporation. And yes, I know that's unfair since I know Thorn's voice from her work with TC. But I'm standing by it. It just feels watered down and safe and that's boring to me.

OK, easy to listen to, but I don't really understand why it is on this list.

I was nice to work with it in the background, but not my 'cup of tea'.

A bit too "background music" for me. It's not bad, just not terribly interesting

Mediocre at best. I didn't hate it, but I'll never listen again

A solid meh.

There is nothing wrong with this music, it just doesn't do anything for me. Definitely not my wheel house and maybe because of those things it feels a bit too overrepresented on this list. Will not ever revisit this.

Not sure why EBTG gets two entries on this list. Similar to the first, this was completely average (maybe even slightly below). 2/5

I do not understand the appeal of this kind of music. You might as well not listen to anything, it's so bland.

Nice harmonies, but nothing amazing here

Was such a boring listen. I guess I could see how someone might like it but it just didn't hit any spots for me. 2/5

2/5. This is quite a generous rating in my opinion. Just a wholly boring soft melodic album that didn’t hit me the right way I suppose.

totally unremarkable

The Sade knockoff nobody asked for

neat, but ended up becoming background noise

Better than the last one, but still didnt get me. Very much of its time: screams 90s. It just doesnt hit anything for me, it’s neither something or nothing. Just a bland, electronic album. Not sure how it made the list, but then I’m sure there’ll be plenty who love this

More interesting than the other album we had by these (why are there 2 EBTG albums on this list), some of the sampling feels forward thinking for the time. The singing style sucks all of the energy out of every song, everything is a laid back lounge track. For the slower songs it works (though I don't really enjoy it) but it kills the slightly more exciting ones. Kept expecting it to pick up for a song or two but it didn't. No need to hear this again, 1.5.

Completely different to their previous album, Idlewild, that we've we had here. Unfortunately, not really my thing either..... Not a big fan of electronic music. I imagine at the right time and place, (probably about 15 years ago) the chilled drum and bass would be quite appealing. But alas, not now. Not sure when they changed their style, probably after the success of missing, but I think I preferred the former! I still think she has a good voice. "Wrong" sounds like an effort to recreate missing to me Didn't hate it, but didn't do much for me and won't be back

Immediately transported back to 1996 and my mom has me at the hair salon she goes to. I am looking through random hair style magazines. Smart phones don't exist and I feel like I will sit here for all of eternity while my mom gets her hair done. Similar vibe to this album. Sitting here bored for what seems like an eternity.

Drum and Bass, EDM, or club music. Vocals have a reverb effect on them to make it sounds airy. She has a great voice. But the songs all sounded very similar, I could hardly differentiate them from one another. The melodies were all similar. The only song I had ever heard from this group was "Missing". Which is interesting since it was missing from this album, being on the previous one. I guess they had so much success with the club remix of that song, they decided to put out an entire album that sounded exactly like it.

Mediocre trip hop

I really liked the singers voice, but that was about it.

Not for me

Budget enya

Im sorry but mid-90s British electronica is just not my bag.

Runway music with lyrics

When you go to the dance club but it's "Geriatric Easy Listening Super Softees" night

Average album. Nothing special but not bad

Groovy. Repetitive.

While I enjoyed the album, within an hour of listening to it I had forgotten everything about it.

Pleasant but for me, a little dull

Tulee olo, että Sneaker pimps tekee saman paremmin. Haluisin tykätä, mutta nukuttaa.

Käyttävät aikansa soinnillista todellisuutta hyvään, eivät pahaan. Sisältää pari hauskaa radiobiisiä, mutta levynä menee pitkäveteiseksi.

Hyggeligt men ikke rigtigt min stil

Pivoting your entire act to a different genre just because a remix of one of your tracks got super popular using it is pretty pathetic, but that’s on brand for this band.

Some cool stuff, reminiscent of some of the more well-known triphop groups. And other stuff that was just kind of... boring electropop.

Songs to listen to while walking down a rainy street thinking about your ex. God god this is a boring album. It feels like listening to slight variations of the same song.

and I miss you.... like I missed this song from this album!

I'm a huge fan of house and techno, but this brand of 90s electronica just doesn't do it for me for some reason.

Very meh album for me, low energy and all of the songs just kinda drag through, sounds very 90s

Not impressed

Unremarkable

It's alright. Nothing to write home about.

yawn, meh, bloodless drum and bass under warbling wallpaper

I feel like this is the equivalent of AC DC or CCR. All the songs sound identical. The one exception is she has a great voice. I wouldn't mind hearing a song on the radio, but not a whole album.

Not offensively terrible, just trite and boring.

This is what you hear in cool cafes in the 90s

Meh. It's okay, nothing spectacular. 2/5

Trip pop.

EBTG goes trip hop. What is the obsession with this mediocre genre? 4/10

A couple of nice tracks but a lot of fluff

"Single" is a great song, but that's about it. I've never got EBTG - too one dimensional.

Dido style music with really cheesy 90s production. Not into this at all.

The idea of this band is much better than the actual music of this band. Downtempo electronic beats and music with a very talented singer, collaborations with Massive Attack and other successful bands, hit single from nineties, that is still ingrained in my memories - it all points in the right direction. Unfortunately, after listening to "Walking Wounded" the hype was very slowly dissipating, leaving me really puzzled. I didn't like any of the songs, I didn't buy the atmosphere of the album, somehow nothing was working for me. It's not a bad record by any means, but I certainly didn't feel like it deserves to be on this list. At least I still have Massive Attack to listen to.

Album you must hear before you fall asleep

You could say it was feisty, but that would only be true if you meant it sounded like what you might get if you fed Feist a fistful of sedatives.

They’re trying to recapture the magic of Missing but just don’t have it in them

pretty meh on this one but not for any specific reason

Fun Facts: 1. You don't need to hear 2 freaking albums from this band (or any album at all), before you die 2. Using Japanese kana for no reason is cringe. 3. If you hear this right after it was released (1996), it would still feel outdated for at least a decade.

At first I thought this might have a bit of a Portishead vibe but I just didn't get there. Not bad but it didn't really do it for me

This was pretty chill, but I did not find it particular engaging. It’s just not for me.

Sounds like any soulless 2020s pop radio hit. Truly ahead of its time.

Pop / trip-hop album van Brits muziekduo Everything But The Girl.

better than expected

This was just.. not interesting

Oh piss off

Just OK, nothing in here really stood out for me.

Very mellow pop

Gillade dem mer när de var omoderna. Inte dåligt men, njae.

I find it weird that Spotify says that fans of this band like prefab sprout as this is nothing like that, this album is boring clubby trash but inoffensive boring clubby trash.

How does this band get 2 albums on this list? It was ok. Different than the other one I had by them. Chill late 90s indie pop

The music is too mellow for me, tonally and sonically it doesn't give the listener much variation throughout. The vocals are beautiful and calming to listen to, but overall it just doesn't excite me. And the moments it veers hard into the electronic sound are what ultimately push me away. Not for me.

also not really my thing

The answer to the question „What would Dido sound like with a House backdrop?“

Really chill, but also everything blends in together. I didn't find anything special about this besides the quirky little instrumentals in the last few tracks. Overall okay, but forgettable. Fave track(s): The Heart Remains A Child

I don't get exactly why this album is more important to be on this list than any other late 90s electronic album. Still, I assume that at the end of my listening session, I was considering it kind of modern for 1996 since it already captured this spirit of modern times that privileged the nostalgia and some reverence to previous idyllic times. As I said, I'm unsure if this is something exclusive from this album or if it was generalized into the electronic scene at that time, but I'll consider it an extra point. 2 stars

Not for me

favorite - before today, flipside least favorite - wrong, walking wounded smooth (almost too smooth, need more bite), drippy 2/5

An album that has a sound perfect for the decade it came from. It was an okay album. A boppy casual listen. It was lyrical enough to not be electronic but the beats made it feel like it was trying to be something else. Overall it was okay to listen to but nothing worth revisiting. 5.6/10

Wow this is really not for me. I feel like all of these songs way overstay their welcome. Every single song is so extremely repetitive -- they are all around 4:30 but could end before the 2 minute mark in my opinion...

Well this seemed truly iconic of the 90s, like unbelievably so but I did not rate it. Boring and a bit wailey. Not my bag

Not a real thriller.... 2.5

Sappy, simplistic lyrics about love and heart break. Music is hit in miss between runway sounds and complex bleeps and bloops. Too sappy for me.

Acceptable lo-fi electronic.

Whilst I have a lot of time for Tracey Thorn, she seems like a genuine good person. The music is not for me, too clean, and polished. Give me Th Marine Girls any day.

Ich hasse auch Alles aber die Mädchen.

It's alright, just doesn't stand out to me in any way and grab me. Fine background music, not something I'll ever listen to again. Preferred the remix tracks at the end tbh.

Not a lot for me here, it's gentle 90s electro / D&B with a haunting female vocal over the top. Nothing really grabs me, it's all a bit bland tune-wise, the lyrics are pretty miserable in general. 2/5

Only 1 or 2 tracks that I like

It was OK.

Bog standard mid-nineties' trip-hop-pop. Music for dinner parties. A tin of white emulsion has more soul than this. Best Tracks: Before Today; Wrong; Walking Wounded

Didn't finish. OK production, reeeaally boring dry middle aged woman cruise ship vocals

Basically department store music.

I don’t know why I really don’t like Everything But The Girl. It’s adjacent to stuff I like. With “Walking Wounded” they moved to a more electronic sound, incorporating elements of deep house, trip-hop, and drum and bass. Things I like many elements of. But they’re really none of those things. They’re “sophisti-pop.” An evolution of their earlier “jazzy folk-pop” sound. And somehow they’re still jazzy while being so electronic. I think that’s the problem. Tracey Thorn has a great rich voice. But it’s a loungy jazzy voice, not the one I want used in this way in trip-hop or drum and bass. “Good Cop, Bad Cop” gets closest for me, with a nice bit of a drum and bass going on, but it doesn’t hit hard enough or build to something. The breaks are consistently let downs. I want to like Everything But The Girl (well, I want to like that girl, too), but it just doesn’t click for me.

This sounds like a jankier version of todays drum and bass and I also don't like her voice.

-Every song is just computer beat + whisper singing and it's not bad, it is just boring. Just 50 minutes of the same track it feels like, and the track isn't very compelling -"Flipside" and "Big Deal" were the most interesting, cuz they had like a "beat drop" -This sort of non-offensive but boring album gets 2 stars now

It wasnt EDM as it actually had lyrics, but it felt like it. I did not skip any songs. It was ok. I did not skip any songs. I will not listen to it again. It is better than a 2 but not really a 3. I will round down

She's got a decent voice but otherwise forgettable.

not memorable

Too slow and melodic for me. Not my vibe and had trouble getting through the whole album

Flipside fand ich ganz nett, ansonsten sind die Arrangements zwar vielversprechend, die Songs aber banal.

she is telling a book worth of stories in these songs but its just boring elevator music

As soon as I read trip-hop I expect that I'm going to get irritated WHILE also being put to sleep. I guess that is a compliment to this style of boredom.

Not my jam really, but nothing terribly bad either.

Nie moje klimaty, w tych czasach nikt takiej muzyki już nie słucha, przez co sprawia wrażenie bardzo staromodnej. Nie porywa, nie zaskakuje, właściwie nawet nie sprawia przyjemności lecąc w tle.

Everything But The Girl has made some nice songs including a few classic ones. It is not clear to me why this album belongs to the 1001 list. It is well made, but I prefer the sound of their older albums. Just like today I had tried to get into this album at the time but never managed.

This record was released in 1996, so go easy on it. This record was released in 1996, so go easy on it. This record was released in 1996, so go easy on it. This record was released in 1996, so go easy on it. I couldn't care less about a record that sounds like this in 2022. BUT, this seems pretty innovative for 1996. When you think about it, pop music was transitioning at that time, and even rock bands were incorporating electronic elements to expend their tonal palettes and remain relevant. For those reasons, I can see why this was considered an important record. It's pretty chill, which I can appreciate. But the production style and canned drum beats (I like programmed drums, but they shouldn't sound like a preset rhythm that came with the drum machine out of the box) are a barrier for me. I've given better music two stars, but this is better than a 1.

I appreciate that this band had some longevity it an industry that is notorious for producing one-hit wonders. He is a decent DJ and she is a decent singer. Good for them. But, this is the second of their albums on this list, and I couldn't figure out why the first one made it either, so . . .

Zeer zweverig tot wat saai toe. Niet zo m'n ding

I love Tracy Thorne's voice especially the work she did with Massive Attack. However with the exception of the Todd Terry remix of Wrong, this album is largely dull. Walking Wounded is trip hop light an better suited as waiting room music than anything else. Musically sound and lyrically decent but hardly ground breaking stuff.

Very 90s, I thought this was going to be folk after googling the band so that was a surprise. Meh.

Is there a 90s uk sophistipop album this list doesn’t have?

not for me

seems quite dated. Modern disco, electronic? Good for that style, but not my cup of tea.

2.7 - Electro-lounge algorithm filler.

Like a couple of retards trying to fuck a doorknob.

Nice trip hop pop. 5-6/10 maybe.

Very dated and it never clicked with me.

its house/electronic I guess felt kinda long even though it wasn't 2.5

Bit tepid

Kinda fine. Nothing great.

Fine, but so thin sounding. There's almost nothing to it. Flickery drums, "dance" music, but it would be impossible to move to. Her voice is so thin... Quite boring.

Fine, but so thin sounding. There's almost nothing to it. Flickery drums, "dance" music, but it would be impossible to move to. Her voice is so thin... Quite boring really.

Ok as background noise. Decent mix between music and vocals

Too pop

Was not bad. Just not my style.

The review for electric light orchestra is actually for this. I also give electric light orchestra 3 stars. I liked it but alot of tracks sounded the same.

Jacob get the fuck off my MySpace account I agree with the stuff he said though. Pretty spot on actually. I don’t think it was awful, just an outdated genre/style that I have no attachment to. Again, listened on shuffle, couldn’t get round to them all and I’m writing this hours after I listened so that probably does make some sort of impact on the score. 2 star, there have been worse 2’s though

all of the songs either sound like the background music for a game releasing in 2002 exclusively for the og xbox or the sad part in a 1998 romcom where the main characters have broken up and are reflecting on their relationship.

Would never normally listen to something like this, I like parts of it but others feel a little sparse and don't really hold my attention at all. It's fine background music, but I don't find it to be particularly special.

Alright?

This is pretty chill/quiet heart stuff; it's no Cowboy Junkies though! !-D If it doesn't pick up a bit after song 4, probably only a 2. If there are some awesome songs, maybe a 3. I'd give it a 2.5, but not a 3. Might grow on me if I listened to it in the background a bunch, but not that compelling on first listen.

I had a hard time getting into this. It wasn't for me

Totaal anders dan ik in gedachte had en best aardig, maar niet heel spannend ook. Door die saaiheid afgerond naar 2 sterren.

Wohl nicht schlecht, aber TripHop ist einfach nicht meins

Not for me.

Background mall headphones music

This would be good to take a nap to in spite of not really being my cup of tea. It's got that repetitive nature that I don't really dig that much, but I do like the volcalist's voice and there is some good musicality there

Awk it was alright

Was very excited to hear this but kinda disappointed. Sounds good but feels like a real lack of substance

Just really not my cup of tea. Not terrible overall.

Ei mun pala kakkua

Terrbile, just terrible

Наконец-то мне попался альбом, который я уже слушал. Для меня он оказался скучным и не цепляющим, хотя начало было многообещающим.

A cool set of trip-hop songs, but not many songs of the record are memorable

Chilled out but not really my kind of music.

Not what I like

Didn't care for this

If anyone is ever feeling too wistful and nostalgic about the 90s, just remind them how much more racist and homophobic it was back then. If that doesn’t snap them out of it, just let them listen to this album. That’ll do the trick.

Boring.

En mi opinión este álbum resultó no ser de mi agrado, aun que soy una persona abierta a la música nueva este tipo de sonidos no me agrado, siento que la mezcla contrasta mucho

This shit is awful. The problem with this list is there are far too many groups that were popular in the 90s being over represented. The fact that this is the SECOND album by this horrendous artist illustrates this problem. What garbage.

Pretty boring music

this is so boring...it's like a slow motion car chase in the mall parking lot.

Have never heard of Everything but the Girl. I did recognize the voice and I figured out it was because she is the guest singer on "Protection" by Massive Attack - which I like. It looks like that was from a couple of years before this came out After digging deeper, I realized I did know the song "Missing" from their prior album. Can't remember if that was on the radio or in a movie or something. After listening 3 times... I ended up "liking" the first 2 songs "Before Today" and "Wrong". After that it kinda feels repetitive and doesn't add much new or interesting. The sad girl lyrics also start to get old after a while. Liked songs on Spotify: 2/11 Rating: 1/5

Sounds all like the Missing remix.

boring af

Not particularly bad, but particularly boring.

1987. Their first use of drum machines after their drummer left for another band.

No. This is exactly what I didn't like when this album came out. Lite-pop drivel. Thumbing through radio stations in the late-90s would get this station changed in about half a second. Listening to a full album of this crap. Oof…

One of the most bland albums I've listened to yet. Nothing exciting about this at all, just felt like the same song on repeat, so mundane it hurt. Mirrorball is the only song that sounded even slightly different to the rest, and even that was average at best. 1.5/5.

Maybe on a different day

Uninspiring

So bland. Did not survive.

Abrasive beat, not my kind of music

THIS BLOOOOOOOOOOWS STOP MAKING ME LISTEN TO LOUSY BRITISH ELECTRONICA FFS

Not bad but not my forte

Meh, more like Everything but a band that should be on this list. This is music for people who like Chik-fil-A. Bland, dull, unseasoned and very forgettable. What band was I talking about?

So boring. Sounds like something my parents would listen to in the 90s that I would be bored by

Gotta be honest, my mind drifted and I completely forgot I was listening to this for a good ten minutes at least. On a positive though the singer does have a really good voice. It just wasn’t for me whatsoever. I found it unfathomably dull.

Dogshit

The perfect soundtrack for someone who finds white bread too spicy. Two of these greige platters, but no TOOL 😭😭😭

You know those sex scenes that are all closeups of elbows crossfading with lit candles to maintain a PG-13 rating? This sounded like music specifically written to underscore those scenes. It’s like they spent all of their studio time programming the drum machines and then someone was like, “Shit! We’ve only got 15 minutes to record all the vocals and synths!”

This was trash

Meh. Why?

How the fuck did two albums from these guys get on this list? This sounds like what my aunt would listen to if she was doing mushrooms for the first time

On the face of it there is absolutely nothing wrong with this, lovely voice, ok drum and bass/house etc. However, it just inexplicably makes me feel really sad and miserable, just the whole vibe of the thing. The end couldn’t come quick enough. No reason, I find doom metal uplifting for example, funny how different peoples brains are wired.

Never liked this band

this is the music that plays at visible changes in the mall while they show fashion shows on the tv

I got bored

fa cacare ma c re o bar??? ja la ual**ra imb**tonata

Really struggled with this one.

For years i wondered "is pop and popular music the same thing?"until I finally looked it up. This is pop music pa excellence, that is top down produced created only to make money and the lyrics are love baby love love me me love me me me. Look at that photo: either he is well stoned or his soul has left his body - perhaps both. If two music exes went to cocktail lounge and these two were making wallpaper music and one said "Bet you five bucks i can make them a hit," this is what you'd get. The first song was urgh okay but as the album went on it became like being immersed in a sensory deprivation tank. On my patented -100 to 100 where -90 is being put into a sensory deprivation tank and forgotten about for 5 days this is -10 for any single song but increasing minus the more songs you listen to: -60 -70ish for the album taken as a hole - i mean whole. It's a guesstimate as i couldn't finish the last two songs - my soul was leaving me.

The kind of music that's in a US sitcom that looks like it's from the 90's but is actually brand new, 2025. If Dido decided she wanted the tinny drum riff that come standard with a keyboard.

Nothing!

I mostly hated this album, with the notable exception of "Flipside", which gave me Beck vibes.

Not a whole lot to enjoy here. A real snooze fest.

point1.

I do not like synthy pop music. For me, the genre represents people who are not good enough musicians to play real instruments.

Ugh - like being in a spa in the Caribbean (the piped in kind)

Horrible and disconnected, lacking in cohesiveness. Like a guy came up with some beats after hearing that DnB was a thing and then sent it to the singer who was forced to just kind of make up some lyrics and make them fit in tunelessly.

Better than the other album from EBTG that's included on this list, but marginally so. Vaguely trip-hop, decidedly dull, lifeless vocals. I won't be coming back to this one ever.

I didnt like the songwriting

Superficial and vacuous album, made for people who don't like drum n'bass but want to say that they have a drum n'bass album in their collection. This is coffee table drum n'bass music, tied down, neutered, then dressed in sophisticated clothing, and forced to perform. The milquetoast music continues, dipping briefly into house (light) and even a bit of trip-hop (light). This is mild and minimal music, made to be played in the background, like in a shopping mall or as hold music when ringing your utility supplier. Offensive by the nature of the fact that it's so deliberately inoffensive. It's like vermin pretending to be cute, just to get into your house, where it can hide in the skirting boards and breed, eating you out of house and home. The fact that we're forced to endure remixes of two of the songs is a bad thing, particularly when the songs are so awful.

Hot trash.

Not my cup of tea

tbh i thought they were a one hit wonder but anyway: everything sounds so sad. nothing for me.

Easy listening, but ultimately not much here.

Her voice isn’t bad, but this album is nothing but skips.

Electronica, chiefly interesting for its innovative and highly contrasting sound textures, but limited by the underwhelming melodies, with their restricted tonal range, a heavy emphasis on synthetic drums and bass lines and performed with an airy reverb-enhanced voice to match.

Please let there only be 2 albums from them Rating: 1.4

Dull, dull, dull. They've always been dull.

In a nutshell: drum and bass Lite™ Going in only familiar with Missing (the Todd Terry remix), which is a "chillout classic". I was hopeful for some dynamic downtempo tracks paired with Tracey's soothing voice. Nope. I agree with the masses here - the tracks blend with each other. The backbeats are reused. Tracey's vocal range sounds deliberately minimal, perhaps capped at a few notes. I was hoping to hear her branch out a bit. It's a product of its time. And it's nothing to rave about now. Overall: 2/10

Not for me

Really not for me Will I listen to again: 0%

Album 617 of 1001 Everything But The Girl - Walking Wounded (1996) Rating : 1 / 5 The album title is apt. I felt like a walking wounded after listening to this electronica crap. I'm sure it is up some others' alley but I just can't get into it.

I don't understand what’s definitive of the music. Soft pop, nothing memorable.

Nothing remotely memorable here. Strangely restrained vocals stuck on top of mediocre backing tracks which don’t go anywhere.

I was pretty keen at the start with the pallet of sounds borrowed from drum and bass and jungle, but there's no getting around that this album is boring and samey. I don't have a problem with weak voices if they come with interest, variety or emotion, but this vocal performance has none of those.

Inoffensive, well produced, very 90s, unremarkable, won’t listen again.

boring droll NNN

Very forgettable. I listened to it and found it so bland that later in the day I listened to a few songs again and instantly forgot those. No idea why this madentheblist

If you want to try making boiled paste, add about 4 tablespoons of white flour to 2 cups of water and heat in a pan, stirring, until it begins to bubble. Turn off the heat and let it cool, and thicken, a bit before you use it. Time better spent.

Oh, that’s not good. Not my thing, too mid temp, too mid 90s electronica. I’ll pass.

eeeeew bruh fuck no

Absolutely awful

Boring hotel lobby Muzak

Sounds like what I would hear in the Hyatt lobby. Maybe a little Sade influence? Love Sade but not so much this.

There isn't another album out there to replace this one on this list?

Not for me

Not an album that I Will Côme back , really Boring and not usefull

Didn’t like this!

Wasn't a big fan, sounded like music you hear when on hold, didn't engage me

I did not enjoy this at all.

Found this one repetitive, formulaic, and overall not interesting

Terrible.

Forgettable

Really wasn’t a fan. All sounded rather bland.

dnf i tried but damn this is a snoozefest

Wow, I can't listen to this either. Boring, atonal, blaaah... Sorry kids.

to be honest, I hated this album. I have no idea why it really didn’t do anything to me, but every single time the girl saying I was so angry. It sounded like every single pop song lyrics about wanting the person not being able to get them blah blah blah I’m just sick of these types of lyrics and I really just didn’t like the way that she sang.

I didn't enjoy the other EBTG album on the list, and I enjoyed this one less. Not for me, such wailing, pointless singing.

Virkelig kedelig og generisk
