Reviews (page 6 of 7)
It's ok. Very European. It's mild and sometimes interesting, but mostly forgettable. She's a very lovely singer, but not a memorable voice. At least, it's not utilized in the most memorable way. I very likely won't seek this album out again, but it's inoffensive so I won't be upset to hear it again.
What the hell?
That did very little for me. Nice atmosphere, I guess, sometimes.
Insipid is the word that springs to mind here. Massively overshadowed by the playlist following it on Spotify. Nothing to grab on to. The most interesting thing about them was always Alison’s styling. 2.5
An interesting listen as I was only familiar with Goldfrapp's big hits. The album sounds more like a film soundtrack than a pop record, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but not much clicked with me.
Trip-hop wannebees but a little insipid lacks that edge which made trip-hop sing. Bit dull
I like some of Goldfrapp's stuff, but mostly didn't like this album.
second goldfrapp album listened to, very alienesque but i dont thing i like it
Chato e massante
Not bad. Interesting sound, although I doubt it's an album I'm going to return to. This kind of hits me as movie soundtrack music, stuff that would play well for a lot of movies. Like I could see this working well in a lower key scene in a James Bond movie, or a Quentin Tarantino movie or something like that. 2.5 stars.
This is a perfect example of the over emphasis on English music in this list. This album sounds like the worst outtakes of Massive Attack, Portishead, and Bjork. And the Brits tried to give it a Mercury Prize ffs
I'm looking at my rating stats and it seems like I've been too nice, so I need to start giving out some meaner ratings. Sorry to do this to you Goldfrapp, it's certainly not bad but it's giving "We have Portishead at home"
I don't like any of this. It feels like a very dull debut.
Eh
Good in the right setting… but not something I will revisit often.
Quite forgettable
Not for me. 2/5
I liked human, not bad but nothing special
Pop, orchestral, 2003 -> 2
I didn't mind her voice at first on this album. But as soon as she started to gargle into the microphone, she lost me. The rest of the album is junk.
1. head - 1.5 2. paper - 2 3. human - 1 4. pilotz - 2 5. deer - 2.5 6. mountain - 1 7. radar - 1 8. utopia - 1.5 9. horze -
This had some great musicians on it. That doesn't always make great songs. Did absolutely nothing for me.
Most divergent album. Some songs belonged in James Bond, some in a circus. Some bits were great to listen too but it was mostly uninteresting.
I mean it's alright. Some moments were ethereal, many others were mid. Pretty whatever overall. Goldbrapp
Another introduction to me. But sounds quite familiar because many of the tunes could be from a "Bond"-movie. favourite: "Human" 2,5
Boring
Goldcrapp
Soft dreamy vocals on top of boring electronic music.
Thought I was getting "Ooh La La" Goldfrapp but instead got this Bond soundtrack. No thanks.
Didn't do much for me unfortunately, veered too far between a lesser Portishead (Opening Track vs Sour Times in particular to my ear) and.. carnival music?
Weird, but not weird enough to be good at weird.
It’s ok, just kind of boring
Just not a fan of the use of the ethereal sounds on this album, most of it feels like I'm watching some mysterious mid-2000s movie. Better than others on the list, but still not that great.
The songs and album cover make me think of the opening credits to a James Bond movie. Some of this I like, and some of it I hate. I don't mean I like certain songs and dislike others. I would start to enjoy a song and then get annoyed with it before it was even over. I would like to take samples from this album, but I wouldn't want to listen to the whole thing.
Meh. Baroque electro-pop. It’s not awful. But it didn’t seem amazing.
Not my style of music but very haunting
Impossible to describe how often music writers were writing about Goldfrapp in the 2000s versus immediately after. Bit unfair to tie their fall in status to how much industry folks and others gassed them up but...there's a lot of gas in the room. This is pretty moderated and pretty trip-hop to pop stuff. Goldfrapp's voice is excellent and makes songs like Utopia really enjoyable but this is another one of those entries that made it in because the book was first written in 2005 and the writers were British. Favorite Tracks: Lovely Head, Horse Tears, Utopia
Thoughts before listening: Is this the second Goldfrapp album on here? Maybe I'm mistaking this for some other 2000s era indie pop/electronic artist. Regardless, I remember Goldfrapp making all the best album lists of that era, but I never really paid much attention. I'm sure this will be fine. Review: Yeah confirmed second album from Goldfrapp. As always, I strongly question the 00s era albums included on this list, but to be fair I was mainly listening to punk, indie rock, and jamband artists in those years so I'm probably not necessarily the best source to ask. I get the appeal of Goldfrapp and other similar musicians, even if its not necessarily for me. There are some somewhat interesting songs on this album, but overall this slow, breathy singing just isn't for me. It sounds like soundtrack music for a Bond movie, and I was pretty bored. 2-stars
Slow, synthesized, sultry, dramatic. A decent (not great) debut. Deer Stop is squeaking and weird. Felt Mountain (the yodel-esque song) and the circus like Oompah Radar make for an interesting twofer and carry this otherwise sleepy album. (2.3*s) Was looking forward to Felt Mountain when I saw Goldfrapp come up on the list, wanted to like it more.
Goldfrapp had a prior entry on this list that was a pleasant surprise. As a result I was excited to take a chance on another album from them. Unfortunately, Felt Mountain didn't hit nearly the same way. While it started off OK, the style of this album quickly lost its appeal to me. Maybe it was slowed down too much or leaned too far into the ambience? In line with the description/background, early on it was evocative of some alternate takes of bygone Bond themes. This should have been more than enough to get me through but unfortunately after a while these all started to run together and become a little too slow and boring. It took a backseat as background noise while I drove home and was glad to finish it up so I could put something else on. It's not a terrible album, but had this been my first exposure to them I probably would have written Goldfrapp off. Not sure why this one hit so much worse than Seventh Tree. 1.93 stars
Eerie vibe, beautiful voice.
Hmm, not sure what to say about this album. It's like simply a woman's voice singing with very light music happening. Maybe some sort of Jazz?
If Portishead were shit they would sound like this.
18/12/2025 I found this pretty boring and nothing stood out for me. Spotify listeners: 896.7k
very downbeat album.
Like James Bond music on Valium. It’s not easy making Electronica boring, but I believe this album unfortunately succeeds in doing just that. Coincidentally, “Deer Stop” is what I was yelling at my phone while listening to this album. From the moment the first song started, I kinda worried every song would be that boring, and I was mostly right, with one notable exception. The only exception is the penultimate song, “Utopia”, which is by far the best of the bunch. It wasn’t amazing enough to add to my usual rotation, but it was definitely the best on the album. Being all the way at the end of the album, I wasn’t expecting anything to stand out from the rest that deep in. It’s a long way to go for a single notable song. Ok, so the singer for sure has a beautiful voice, and I wasn’t in abject misery listening to this at any point. It’s boring for sure, but it’s not terrible. It’s going to get a 2 from me. Easiest 2 of my life. You’ve got a lot of EDM/Electronica artists on here that only get a single showing, but somehow this is the first of 2 Goldfrapp albums on the list that I have heard so far. If I end up ranking their other album anything higher than a 2, I would actually be pleasantly surprised, but I really just don’t see it happening with how boring this one was. Why they get 2 albums on here is beyond me, but I didn’t write the book so it’s whatever. I didn’t last the whole day listening to this one. Again, it wasn’t good, but it was never bad enough to make me want to shut it off completely. So, yeah. 2 stars.
Previously rated: #755 - Seventh Tree (3/5) **************************** Album #992 Sort of psychedelic, a little weird, and got pretty boring. Wasn’t feeling it.
It's pleasant but kind of boring. Almost like a movie soundtrack.
Not really my type of music
No clue why this is on the list. 2/5
Often scan the reviews while listening to an album, but this time can't unhear all the notes about this being full of (b-rate) theme songs. There's also some carnival stuff and a decent song or two.
Decent
Strangely disappointing
Heard the name before but for some reason I assumed they're a rock/metal band? Well, I'm in a bad mood today and this album isn't helping. It's barely music. And the only song that has something interesting going on is the least streamed one. Huh 2/5
Remember seeing this album around but have to say on first listen I am not a fan.
Pretty, but gets pretty old also after the first few tracks. Homogenous; one track bleeds into the next not in a great way
Snooze
This album makes me want to like it, and there are a couple.songs here I do enjoy. But there's also parts if the album I just find grating. Not a bad album, I just find parts of it annoying.
This left absolutely no impression on me. I know I listened but I can't remember it at all.
This felt like circus music
Not really my jam
It had some moments, but was overall forgettable.
Not my bag unfortunadado I like some of the sounds and sometimes it does sound like a circus, house of mirrors maze which is sick other than that feels a lot longer than 40 min.
Heavily whelmed by this, nothing really good or remarkable about it?
Two Goldfrapp albums on the list is insanely generous. It's fine, but very forgettable.
Lost interest halfway through to be honest, but hung on for the best track, Utopia
Very boring
At first, I was drawn in. Then, not so much.
Light dance music. Few odd songs, but ok overall. 5/10
Didn’t care for it.
Was ok. Like a circus meets a brothel
We had another Goldfrapp album just 3 days ago. Didn't like it. Big shocker - didn't like this one either. I will say I did like the first track, "Lovely Head", quite a bit. Sounded to me like a spaghetti western theme with a bit of sci fi influence. Thought maybe this album would change my opinion of the group. Then the second song kicked in, and pretty much every song after. Can't say it's an awful album, just boring to my ears.
Please refer to my previous Goldfrapp review three days ago! My opinion still stands.
This album would be interesting if it wasn't so boring.
Snooze
Goldfrapp has some good tracks on other albums.
This was a strange mix of boring & clown music, with a little bit of Johnny Test thrown into the title track. Not nearly as unpleasant as some other albums, but still not worth listening to. Of the early electronic music, I find this the least compelling
Sounds like budget Portishead.
This album was not for me. It sounded ok and some of the music they were able to create was definitely unique and sounded good but ultimately it just didn’t hold my attention and quickly became (pleasant) background noise. No standout tracks for this one.
A bit more I dont know, House Jazz? than her later electronic stuff. I prefer the later stuff.
This was interesting but weird. It kinda went between mournful melancholy to just outright strange. Idk I liked parts of it but toward the end it started to get too weird for me
Not Great
Not awful, would make some nice soft background music at a nice restaurant. But I'm not feeling it - even a little bit.
5/10 - disappointed because I expected more, the initial song is a classic but then it is a bit boring, there are no other standout songs
Good pop artist, but not her best work.
Annoying
WTF is this?! First thought based on first song was "Portishead wannabees." the whistle, the snare, the sultry vocals. Then I thought, "are they gonna break into 'Goldfinger'?" Totally 1970s James Bond vibe going on. Is that a theremin I hear? I kinda liked the first song, "Lovely Head." Then "Paper Bag" comes on and I picture a dude in a ruffly shirt plucking a guitar standing next to a lounge singer, and then the strings kick in. Not liking it so much there. Then "Human" comes on and I hear this 70s vibe again and it's got this cool funky horn section popping in and out. I'm liking that one! Then we slow down to the lounge singer jazz + theremin again. And from there on it out it loses me and gets really weird and slow and it drags and then gets annoyingly weird and unpleasant ("Oompa Radar"... just hideously awful). Can't decide whether to give this an A for effort on the uniqueness scale, or an F for being weird just to be weird and for copying Portishead but mostly failing to achieve anything close to the musical greatness of Portishead's best work. Other than a couple of moments (most of "Lovely Head," all of "Human," and I couple of other spots which I found myself being strangely attracted to, on whole I don't really like the album.
I liked it, but the sound seemed very repetitive
a bit too weird for me
2.11
Wasn't feeling this.
Not human. Must be a dud
Experimental and weird, but kinda cool in an ethereal sort of way.
slow and steady
2 estrelas
Bad EDM showtunes? Dull and annoying, count me out on this one.
It was a nice enough listen but ultimately didn't really do anything for me.
p868, 2000. 2 stars. Great voice, but not her best work by any means. Strays into weirdness far too often for repeated listening.
Pretty trippy, though soothing.
grave pas mon truc
Sounds like someone remixed the first ten James Bond movies slow songs with gentle electronic beats. 2/5
Pretty boring electronic stuff.
Huh. That wasn’t very good.
This sounds like a Bond movie soundtrack.
Fine I guess
It didn't do much for me.
Huh
Real big ask for café beats to overcome a doll baby cover. Horse Tears is good creepy
Meh but spooky, though a pretty good backdrop to me reading Frankenstein right now.
⭐️⭐️/5. Most were too ethereal for me, but Oompah Radar was dope.
“Please let me do the next bond theme”
Boring. Minimalistically ambiental. Some interesting moments. Overall, I don't know why it's on this list. 2/5
Sounds like when Bond girls do ketamine in the Alps.
Zzzzz…
High two but this ain't for me
First impression pre listen: So I've got no idea who or what this is. Apparently it's an electronic album. So far electronic stuff on here has been really hit or miss for me and have lead to the most boring listening experiences I've had since starting this list. I'm always feeling a bit cautious when heading into one for that reason. Don't really have any expectations what so ever. Hoping to be surprised by something unique. Individual track notes: Lovely Head Starts off unexpectedly with the whistling. Very retro sounding vocals. Unpleasant electronic noises. Mixed much louder than anything else on here. Kinda has an early sci-fi B-movie feel to it at times. Average. 2.5/5 Paper Bag Harpsichord? Somber and intimate sounding. Don't love how the vocals are mixed, they sort of sound a bit unclear at times. Has some pretty soundscapes, love the strings and what I think is an accordion. It's an interesting arrangement even if the track ends up a bit singular and slow paced. Fine. 3/5 Human I'll aknowledge that the instrumental is very inspired. Love the way the electronics is implemented with the retro almost spy movie adjacent instrumental. The strings are very evocative, and I love the use of what I think are horns as well. I just can't help but think it's really boring. There's definitely a lot of care going into the arrangement, and the vocals are ammicably performed so it's not bad. Fine. 3/5 Pilots Perfect music to literally fall asleep to if it wasn't for those really loud high pitched synths. For the lack of better words: boring and irritating. Dislike. 2/5 Deer Stop That was weird. In an unexplainable mostly unengaging way. Feels very indulgent, and at times even unpleasant. Don't love the effect on her voice. The lyrics can barely be discerned through it. And at the same time it's also just not a very fun track to listen to. Her voice is pretty sweet, and the strings do add a retro pop element to the song, but it ends up doing nothing for me. Strongly dislike. 1.5/5 Felt Mountain There's a bit of a folky traditional element to both the vocals and the percussion which is kinda interesting against the watery production. Ruined by the space synth, it genuinely does not fit against the background imagery. Luckily it doesn't ladt long. Has a bit of a beautiful, serene, wintery vibe which is really pleasant. Decent. 3.5/5 Oompah Radar Haunted circus music. Sounds like a carnival ride slowly running out of power. Won't say it's unpleasant, it's mostly just really boring. Dislike. 2/5 Utopia Kinda dynamic and engaging. Really like how layered the instrumental is and how it elevates the vocals. Alright synths. Does get a bit repetitive and stale after a while. Fine. 3/5 Horse Tears Somber and slow. Really takes its time. There's no way around it: I've lost patience with this thing. Extremely boring. Strongly dislike. 1.5/5 Final review: I think I'm starting to realize that I just don't like most trip-hop. This includes this album. It's slow, it's meandering and it's intentionally obtuse. This makes it mostly one out of two things: Either it's weird and confusing, or it's boring as hell. And while it does have moments of beautiful layered soundscapes and haunting, ethereal vocals it just does not get me to care about it. It's simultaniously too busy to be relaxing, and too sluggish to be engaging, leading to a tedious listen where I never find the right headspace for it. Yes the strings are beautifully arranged, and there are moments where the retro style sounds genuinely inspired, but those fleeting moments are not enough to keep this album interesting. The old spy movie esque atmosphere does give it some unique character which definitely makes it stand out however. It's a creative choice to go for and does give it this sort of timeless aura around it, where the "datedness" sounds like an intentional artistic choice. I do see that there is a creative vision here, and apart from some mixing I wasn't too fond of, there really isn't any real issues with this album. I'm just simply not the intended audience. Makes me feel like I wasted my time, yet it was for the most part listenable. 2.5/5 rounded down to 2/5.
I feel like I should have liked this, and I tried to like it, but the spacey western vibes are not for me.
just ok
Didn’t like, weird and not for me.
Eh, fine but not great. Liked her voice more than the beats or lyrics, but pretty boring and bland overall. Didn’t hate it, but bleh.
I probably would’ve really dug this when it came out, but my old self just wasn’t feeling it. A little too weird in parts.
nice album for background listening but I do not know how often I would revisit
A little boring, a mix between some Bond style music and some more quirky instrumental tracks. It just never found a groove that resonated with me beyond those two things.
This style was okay with the first couple of songs but then the weird vocal manipulations and sameness took me out of it.
Reminds me of a bunch of contemporary artists — like Sylvan Esso (male + female duo, less dance my though), Portis Head, and even gives me Billie Eilish inspiration vibes with the eerie vocals.
I like some of Goldfrapp's later stuff. Having not heard this, I was expecting something a little more in that vein. Alas, this was a lot more ambient and a lot less synthpop/disco. Ultimately, I just think it was a little TOO ambient and it put me right to sleep. The moments that weren't ambient were bordering on circus music, and I didn't like that any more than I liked the ambient angle.
There were times where I though this album was going to be good. The combination of the singer's Billie Holiday style singing and the unhinged theremin sometimes worked for me, but there was also just a lot of times where it was trying too hard to be a "creepy jazz" album. I think if I ever want music to set this type of mood I'll just listen to Portishead. 2.4/5
Yeah this one just wasnt really it
unique for sure
Had it on in the background at work. Not as bad as I anticipated
Even when the pace picked up this still managed to be boring.
I'ma go with - weird. A lot was well written, but much of it was just, I really don't know how else to put it, weird.
Lieblich und au kreativ. Gsamthaft dänn aber langatmig.
It's not unpleasant. But it is quite boring!
Just fine. Never heard of. Nice listen but not earth-shattering.
Unremarkable
Modern lounge music. Very dull and not a patch on Goldfrapp's glam-inflected third album, Supernature.
Never really listened to it before. It's alright with some decent tracks but nothing to write home about. You can definitely hear the influence of Beth Gibbons of Portishead in her voice.
If a medieval musician fell into the early 2000s electronic scene. It's an interesting listen, I've never hear melancholic Electronic before. No real stand out tracks, but quite pretty I guess? 2/5
Weird. Sounds like music from a horror movie.
British bjork
This was good music for being tired on a plane to but I'm not sure why it was on here and I'm still wondering why the second Goldfrapp album we got previously is on here.
I listened to this multiple times and... it's fine...
Meh
I mean I like it but very background-y
OG Youtube wallpaper background movie trailer music
Kinda weird not really my thing
Was never really a fan of Goldfrapp and based on this record, I'm still not. It's giving Bond/film soundtrack vibes with the weird instrumental sections and her floaty vocals (which I don't mind) but the whole thing was just a bit dull
Feels like an ambient experiment, slow songs, calm sounds. Not for everyone in its entirely.
Album 708 of 1001 Goldfrapp - Felt Mountain (2000) Rating : 1.5 / 5 More electronica with a trippy pop vibe. Interesting but nothing I'd go back to. It had a moment or two.
Usually like this type of music, what a shame
Sonically interesting and clever. Lyrically obtuse. Melodically challenging.
1.5 Really didn’t enjoy this one. Far worse than the first Goldfrapp album on this list, and I was already uncertain the list needed any Goldfrapp representation at all. This is just enamored with itself, even though it’s not really doing anything. A lot of navel gazing and production tricks and not much else. Blends together into one boring soundscape.
Very cinematic. Very atmospheric. A bit boring.
Sounded like a movie soundtrack.
🎧Helped me doze off during a flight. Pretty same-y and uninteresting.
🥱
Maybe if I were in a hot, smoky basement bar in New York City at 3am with a half finished martini in front of me, listening to a drugged out, tired lounge act on the dingy stage. Maybe then this would have hit just right.
Wanted to like more as I thought I liked Goldfrapp based on singles/ radio play over the years. Found this quite irritating on both listens and do not feel like giving it a third listen. Disappointing - a high 2 but not quite a 3.
Pretty top-heavy, but still quite good
One earphone stopped working halfway through this, which can’t have done it any favors tbh. Loved Seventh Tree but found this a bit wanky
Boring as hell early electronic for the most part. Utopia was a banger though
Overproduced pop, a genre I normally steer clear of with some exceptions. This isn't one of them. Human is ok, rest is uninteresting noises with some good singing. Then the good singing gets weird just to be weird. Reminds me of college and the "I'm gunna be a pah-du-cah" crew.
Odd experimental mix of futurism and retro that ends up being kind of a boring mess..
I entered my review yesterday .......
Alison Goldfrapp has an excellent voice, but holy shit is this dull.
2.9
A bit eh, not really for me, would maybe tolerate it in the background but not much of it appeals to me
Finally, torch music for perverts fucked up on ketamine stolen from a police horse.
Boring
Moody without the punch
I was excited for electronic, but this was too "whimsical" for me. 2*
Fairly OK, reminded me Finnish band Kemopetrol quite a bit.
I really enjoyed about 5 minutes of this - pick any 5 as it's all about the same. Thrre were a few detestable minutes.
Lovely Head Human Utopia
Napišem komentar do pola, slušam dalje, zatvorim stranicu, nema komentara.. Ukratko, malo Portishead vajb, malo AIR vajb, jako puno sintica, i prilično atmosferično, ali mrvicu previše kabarea za moj Sibinjski ukus Kao vuče na trojku, ali bit će 2
Well……I listened. Sounded like mostly torch songs to me with lots of keyboard. Meh.
Sounds like movie music
This made me think of the soundtrack for some bad 1960's movie. Totally forgettable and destined to be parodied on Mystery Science Theater 3000.
Mmmm...
like Portishead (good) with ASMR (bad)
que mierda con deer stop xd
Pretty sure this band has like 3 great songs.
James Bond/Doctor Who/Circus music
Weird! But not terrible
All just got a bit too weird
It’s like a full album demo tape to get a Bond theme deal… less interesting than most trip-hop to me, I was just bored.
The reviewer who said it alternates between boring and weird was right. The weird parts were better it should have all been like that.
Maybe if in the right mood. Very elevator-y, but more harsh sounds. Ended up skipping a few at the end because they were too sharp and her tone was off key
The potential for greatness was there, however the choice to have psychedelic, French cafe, alien, clown music made it too strange for anything more than background noise.
Wow. I have listened to the more recent offerings and I loved them. I had never heard this album.....I'm glad they evolved in to something better.
Meh.
Bored me after 4 songs
Meh
2 it a little weird
poor mans Portishead
the whole time it just felt like waiting for it to end
I don’t know when I’d listen to this
Good background music
I kinda like the vocal style at times but overall I was pretty bored by this.
Even though I'm not a fan of electronic music, I enjoyed this.
Felt like a creative debut album with lots of ideas and potential and but not lots of focus and polish. I'd like to hear more "Utopia" and less "Oompah Radar". 2.5/5
The album is very atmospheric, super vibe-y, great background noise. It doesn't really surpass that for me, but is fits that role very well.
2.5⭐️
One of those albums I remember little about the next day. Made almost no impression.
Slow and weird
The only point of reference I have for them is their song “strict machine” which I enjoy. This album was quite a let down. The first two songs were just awful. I liked the 3rd one but after that it went back to being meh.
Cool vibes, but so boring.
3/10 - pretty trash album. A bunch of the songs were pretty weird including oompa radar which just sounded like a circus. I sort of liked utopia
very different, sounds like something from the 40's or something. Not horrible, but not really to my tastes.
2.5
There’s a couple of decent songs on this but overall I was a bit disappointed. Lately Ive noticed a few songs on 6music where Ive thought ‘ah this is good’, and it’s turned out to be Goldfrapp or Alison Goldfrapp, so for a few weeks Ive been meaning to dive a bit deeper. This didnt sound like what I was expecting. A bit slow and moody at times, often sounding like ‘any minute now this will take off’, but it never really did, bar Utopia and Lovely Head. I’ll definitely still keep an eye out for these but perhaps not this record
Rather odd on the face of it but the more I listened the more it just felt dull. Lots of ambient sounds and weird noises but every track just plods along without anything interesting happening. Reminds me of a really bad bjork album, which kinda shows how good bjork is as she'd make something like this sound memorable. 1.5.
Didn't enjoy this for the most part, gets quite weird in places. Won't be revisiting this. Highlights: Lovely Head Utopia
This did nothing for me, and I thought it might. Disappointing
Dronene, og søvndyssende..
The other Goldfrapp album I had was the first 5 star first listen I had on this list. This one didn’t really speak to me
Ok - not for me though
Not really my type of thing, I didn't enjoy very much. Not the worse though, it's still listenable unlike antichrist superstar. Favourite: felt mountain. 2/5
sounds like a limp james bond soundtrack
I was not a fan. The common comment on here is it’s boring. I would agree. Maybe if you’re having a bubble bath with your ladies, smoking a joint and having a glass of wine this might be a decent album but I wasn’t doing that. I also don’t know why this was classified as electronica. Only the last two songs felt anything like electronica music.
Today's album is a weird one. It's like electronic jazz, or like electric cabaret music. It's not necessarily bad. It's actually quite interesting. I don't know how I feel about it yet, but it's definately different. May require further listening to give a fair assessment, but upon first listen, it was definately out there. Favourite songs: Human, Utopia, Pilots Least favourite songs: Deer Stop 2/5
Uh creepy
I wanted it to be a bit more weird and bombastic than it actually was.
Mostly boring, very weird at times. Standout songs: Human Utopia
Supremely boring.
My 2nd. Goldfrapp on the list, and I think I'll just have to accept that this band is not for me. The good tracks, are really good, but the bad tracks are downright annoying. Other bands do the same thing better.
Someone's review just said "Goldcrapp" LOL
Strange and focused on this opera electronicky sound
Very much feels like an entire album of boring attempts to make a Bond movie theme. 2/5
It wasn't really my thing – the tracks kind of bled together for me.
I don't get it
It all sounded very similar, like one long James Bond song. Slow lyrics, ambient quiet music, nothing exciting going on, overall boring.
Yeahhhhhhhhhh
Lifeless
🦶
Bad James Bond movie themes?
I have always been a huge fan of electronic music, even 25 years ago when this album first came out, but Goldfrapp has always fell completely flat for me. It’s not like I hate their music or anything, it’s just there as a space filler that had no real use or purpose. All in all, the only kind of gold this is, is fools gold!
Oof. Not for me
very james bond-y, hams it up a little.
Sounds mysterious at first, but it becomes a trick after a couple of songs. Blend of 60s/70s movie soundtracks and trip hop. Favorite song: Pilots
Honestly, its been 24 hours and i forgot what it sounded like. I listened to mom jeans instead and it was a lot better.
Nope. Not for me.
This would be the perfect soundtrack for some film. Interesting to listen to by itself, but I will rarely be in the mood to return to it.
A little surreal, but not completely unlistenable. I started off liking it but it felt at times like I was listening to the soundtrack of a slow paced story-driven exploration game, but with none of the enjoyment of the actual gameplay, like this was meant to compliment something else from the background instead of being the focus of attention. Or maybe that’s just a way of saying it felt boring and incomplete.
I only know one song by goldfrapp and it wasn't on here so was going into this album not really knowing what to expect. Going to be honest not for me too weird and the songs draggd on. Wanted to like it because it 2000s but just couldn't.
This album felt like I was watching a high school-age weird girl who idolizes Billie Eilish a little too excessively perform her bedroom solo album at a talent show. I was actively laughing at some parts of the album. Not bad enough to give one star because the instrumentals were decent at some parts, but holy hell this one was kind of rough to get through.
I can't think of any situation where I want to listen to this music. It sounds like it's part of a 2000s James Bond soundtrack. It's not bad, it's just an oddly specific genre. Some of the tracks sounded like they took perfectly good music and added obnoxious electronic sounds to it. The one positive thing I can say is they mixed genres together in a way that is unique.
Ritmo tranquilo, relajado, sin mucho que aportar. Voz sensual femenina. Desconocida y un poco flojo.
Cabaret nothing special
More albums I don’t have to listen to. 2 stars for Human and Utopia.
So boring
Meh.
Playable, yes. Memorable, no. Human was ok, the rest I could pass on without regrets.
Voice OK, sound OK, arrangement ??? Definitive not my taste.
I started this album excited, thinking it was going to be a fun one, but I just didn't find it to be very entertaining
A couple good background music tracks at best. Was not necessary to listen to this before I die
a clockwork orange ah music
Loved the music; hated the lyrics. The instrumentals were best.
I feel asleep standing up listening to this. Not my cup of tea.
I always get a little excited when I get an artist I'd never heard of. More often than not I'm disappointed and this album is no exception.
2/5 way too chill
2.5 a little grating
Oli hetkiä, jolloin uhkaava tunnelma puri. Ja lauluhan oli kauttaaltaan tosi hyvää. Rikas äänimaailma. Muuten tylsä, en malttanut keskittyä.
come on man, i've got two kids. do i look like i have time for albums like this?
Best Song: Human. Hate that this is the standard, but this really does have "Bond Song" vibes. Worst Song: Deer Stop. An actively obnoxious song. I don't know if the distortion around the vocals was supposed to sound "haunted", but it just comes off as though someone is fiddling with dials they aren't supposed to. Overall: The whole thing is just achingly slow and understated. I spent the whole time waiting for something interesting to happen, but nothing ever came. It feels like it's an album of songs intended to be played in the trailers for mysterious movies. On their own, they're far too sparse though.
Meh.
Definitely interesting, more of a background music vibe than something you’d actively listen to.
More electronic stuff I have no interest in. There were actually melodies and chord changes, so ranks slightly higher than the rest of this genre.
Wonky cabaret music. Westworld-y
Was quick
feels like im in some fantasy movie? Not really the vibe I go for when I listen to music. 1.5
electric pop
Not for me, a little too much of…everything
The music is cool certainly but honestly really boring as a whole project 2/5
Decent, but no better than that. Very expensive sounding, and very lush, and very boring
Boring
Meh
Love chill vibes music but this is so chill it's asleep.
When I saw that Goldfrapp was considered electronic pop, I thought, “Great! Maybe l’ll hear something like Yaz or the Eurythmics” but this album is very different than those bands. None of the songs moved me. Many of the songs felt like themes for James Bond. Color me underwhelmed.
calling this electronica is a stretch. like james bond music if it was longer and more boring.
I quite liked "Lovely Head" and "Paper Bag". They were a little bluesy/jazzy ethereal. "Oompah Rider" was carousel music on acid. The rest of it was a little too meh for my tastes. A lot of the tracks sounded like the soundtrack to some 90's arthouse film that was going for a "deep" feel. It wasn't a bad album, but it wasn't much to begin with.
Couldn't do it. Like who is listening to this. I had had enough, looked at Spotify and Deer Stop was on. I was like yes, ok dear stop!!!
Came out in 2000, felt like it came out 50 years prior. Was way too pretentious and dull.
A cross between a James Bond and an American Horror Story soundtrack. Either way, not very pleasant.
Slow. I like later goldfrapp a lot more
This was a strange album, not the typical goldfrapp. Sounded more like some chromatics or other alternative type vs electronic. I skipped quite a bit.
