Reviews (page 6 of 7)

Nice vocals, decent production, but ultimately (and I hate using this word in reviews as it feels lazy and utterly unconstructive, but it fits perfectly here) - boring. Just so fucking boring. Genuinely the only interesting thing about this album is that it’s not by an American or English artist - that said I almost flipped my shit when I saw it was a double album only to realise disc 2 is just same again but in French, which in fairness is impressive but would actually likely have enjoyed the album a touch more if it blended both French and English lyrics rather than just recording a 2nd version for us monolingual chuds. Feel like I’ve heard almost every one of these songs 1000 times over on the radio in the last 10 years, and considering I don’t listen to radio by choice, gives you all you need to know about how bland and uninspired the whole thing is. Comme si (6/10) Girlfriend (4/10) The walker (5/10) Doesn’t matter (6/10) 5 dollars (5/10) Goya Soda (6/10) Damn (What Must a Woman Do) (3/10) What’s-Her-Face (5/10) Feels so good (5/10) Make some sense (5/10) The stranger (5/10) 5/10

Very mid and boring pop. 2.5 stars but skew closer to a 2 here.

It was ok

Another poop songs. Not my taste. By the way taste like shit.

New-ish and something completely different than what I usually listen to? Exicting! I listened to the English version of the album, and I wonder if that was a mistake. The whole album has a bit of an 80s vibe to it and overall sounds very well produced, so this should definitely speak to me! Unfortunately I can absolutely not get over how bad Christine's English pronunciation is. I don't know if it's intentional or not, but it annoys me to death and I can't hear anything other than that throughout the whole album. That is a shame. Going to have to be a 2 for me based on what I said. Could definitely be higher if someone else sang it, but can't stretch it in current state.

Not really my jam. Very 80's sounding (this was made in 2018?!). Maybe this was important somewhere or to some one??

Alright pop, not my thing.

Girlfriend Doesn't Matter

Ok just boring

DNF’d 🥲

Spanish HAIM?? As others have said, I am not really sure why this was included on the list. Nothing in this album particularly stands out as noteworthy, and for the most part blends in with its genre of modern pop.

An hour and a half of French pop songs, and a bunch of them are just variations of the same song. It could have been worse, but it was frustrating to hear her rapidly switch between French and English with an accent, which led to me not understanding most of the lyrics even when they were in English.

Impressive production. Shame about the music.

More boring than an evening with Celia

It was alright, but didn’t quite get me. Lost in the 80s vibes that aren’t my thing. A couple good songs, but I think the English transition looses something.

Christine & The Queens was Len’s collective noun for wives 2-6. 2.4 5. 5 dollars

There’s no doubting the visceral outpouring of anger, vitality and sexuality on this album lyrically. Even the professional critics can’t fail to spot it, which is why it tends to be what they talk about, so no need for me to. What gets discussed much less is the music as music. Here’s why: It’s danceable synth pop, always hooky, often retro and if you like that kind of thing you like the album and if you don’t you don’t. The two stars are for the lyrics.

French pop music. Alright. It reminds me a lot of late 80's early 90's pop. It's not all in French though. I expected to not understand, that's different. I enjoy their voice, the music is meh. I swear it's all electronic keyboards and drum machines. Goya Soda is....something. It's not a bad album but it's not for me, has some really interesting lyrics, but overall I'm not a pop music person.

I don't see why this should be on the list

The tribute to Early Eighties synthesizer music was interesting. It’s just too bad that the lyrics were boring. The Wiki article is written about the artist was more engaging than the songs. If you listen to the English version of the album, you do not need to listen to the French version. They are same songs.

It was okay, but I really didn't need an hour and a half of it.

Not bad, just not my personal taste. There was not one song that stuck with me.

Jag lyssnade den här skivan på engelska. Helt kivoga melodier men int desstu vidare

Just kinda faded into the background for me. Would be a 3 star but I’m docking it 1 because I don’t need 2 versions of each song on a record. Make a French record or make an English record. Don’t need both together.

didn’t finish this one. wasn’t really my vibe

Nothing special, sounds like a lot of other synth pop of that era.

Just not good

I've been pretty disappointed with the 2000s inclusions on this list, but the 2010s have somehow been an even more dismal year. This is my fifth 2010er after Kiwanuka, Golden Hour, Modern Kosmology and American Dream. Nothing but a whole lot of moderate tunes and dicking around, which I suppose is congruent with the existential quandaries of modern, postmodern reality, ya dig? Uhh, yeah. Yet another nowhere album. Dare I say that this album feels like a WOKE🗿🗿🗿🗿D🗿E🗿I🗿inc🗿🗿🗿lusio🗿🗿🗿🗿n🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿 https://youtu.be/Oc7Cin_87H4 https://youtu.be/Oc7Cin_87H4 https://youtu.be/Oc7Cin_87H4. There's absolutely nothing remarkable about this album other than that the singer is twans. I guess this album also belongs to the time where every musician was jerking off to the 80s, but rehashing another genre of music isn't worthy of immortalisation on this vewy serious list that has NO duds whatsoever. This music is alright on the surface and is pleasant enough to listen to, but peek underneath the veneer of competence and there is absolutely nothing going on. The instrumentals are minimal and arrhythmic, which squanders whatever potential that the better instrumentation choices had. The vocal performances are decent and showcase a good display of vocal range, but are ultimately unremarkable. I came away with a bad taste (sound) in my mouth (ears)

Mid French electro pop

# Album Name: Chris # Artist: Christine and the queens # Rating: 2/5 # Comments: This aint no daft punk. Very average french electro pop straight from the 80s wannabee draw. Very underwhelming # Top Tunes: None # Would I listen to it again? No

Better than expected but not my style of tunes

This electric pop french album from 2018 was unexpected. It was fine but not my style. I think there is some interesting components of the intersection of pop, RnB, electronic and gender/sexual identity.

It's a bit like tame Prince, I really tried as there's a song or two I know by them that I really like. But one track led into another without much difference very bland before I knew it I was on the French side of the album thinking "is this the same song again?" This time it actually was!

Didn’t need to hear this before I died.

Derivative and kind of forgettable.

This was not a bad listening experience although it was waaaay too long. But I have no clue why it was on this list. There's nothing new here. Madonna did a lot of this 40 years ago. 2 stars. 3 for listenability cause it wasn't bad by any means. But a 1 for its stature and inclusion on this list.

It was kind of boring, it sounded like a generic pop album about themselves. Nothing was redeeming about that album, and I felt like I was tuning out. This is definitely someone else's cup of tea and I hope they enjoy this French Queer pop album, but not for me.

It’s not for me

Electro Euro Pop. Elevator music. Instantly forgettable.

This album does have its qualities, and some of the songs are quite easy on the ear. But they are not very interesting. La Marcheuse is the best of the bunch, but there are no real highlights

Voice is like Ellie Goulding so a good singing voice. Sorry, was just a bit bored listening to it. Lets say 2.5 rounded down to 2; but absolutely not rounded up to 3.

This is all very boring and uninspired, worse I had listen to the same songs again in french hoping it was more interesting. It wasn't. Way better and more important things were happening in 2018 4/10

Didn’t hate it, but didn’t friend anything interesting in it either

Blind album and artist. Bad pop bad album. Pass. Not repulsive but not that good.

This had some good songs on it but all in all, I’m cool.

I don't know when I would put this on. It's not compelling enough for me to want to listen to intently, but it's also not driving enough for me to want as ambient background. It's like - if I want to zone out I could put this on and not pay attention to anything around me, including the music. That may be a little harsh - a couple tracks do light up a little bit, but just not enough throughout the album as a whole.

I wasn't that bothered about this. Not sure why it has such critical acclaim. I thought it was dull and just didn't care that much

Liked the production but English lyrics were pretty bad

This album went on for three hours and then CD 2 started... 2/5

I saw the album cover and said "oh no." It's really not bad though if you don't mind listening to music from the Sims. I got through two songs. 4/10 (2/5)

Inoffensive and tedious, I managed to inadvertently tune this out while listening.

took me a second to realize that the b - side is essentially the same set but in French but even funnier to me is that a b-side was made for this... it's 80's synth pop with some ok hooks but musically it's somewhat commendable and nothing groundbreaking or in other words not worthy of being on this list? This is the most recent album I've been drawn and to be honest as someone who doesn't listen to much modern music, it did make me laugh that the first "modern" album I got was essentially an 80's homage album (not that I like 80's music much)

Catchy pop tunes with attitude.

This really didn't need to be a double album. There was enough merde in the first half.

not for me

I like some of Christine and the Queens' stuff, but I found this album to be a bit samey and boring.

Didn’t rate this at all, all sounded the same

On the surface, it has everything I usually like in pop: 80s vibes/synths, catchy hooks, interesting vocals. But I dunno. When it's great it's great, and when it isn't I found myself struggling to stay engaged. I think it's worth a listen for certain pop fans, but definitely not an album you need to hear before you die.

Album 677 of 1001 Christine and the Queens - Chris (2018) Rating : 2 / 5 French Pop Music. Wasn't as bad as I anticipated. Pretty recent album. Not sure why it would even be included in this list. At first I thought it was a young Johnny Depp on the cover.

Bastante estimulante primera escucha.

Prefer his first album, very good live!

During first song I was sure it wil be nightmare but more I listen more I like it. Not my style but good for a radio

I feel like I get what this album is trying to do, I just didn't enjoy it all that much.

I get it—Rahim Redcar is, like, real cool. But this record hits like some slightly-above-average synthy pop music. Had it come out only ten years earlier I'd evaluate it differently, but on my first listen I don't feel like it's bringing a lot to the table in 2018.

Production is pretty amazing on this. Music is...fine? It's alright. Not entirely sure why this specific album is on this list though.

what is this? Again no Weezer blue album but this?

French version 5/10 English version 4.5/10

Listened it one time - ✅.

I suppose they could have been a very welcomed figure in the pop world for marginalized people, but musically speaking this just doesn't do anything for me.

Come on... Really?

I felt nothing.

Veldig poppete pop. Litt gøy, ganske ikkje min greie

Damn i could not get into this. I feel like there's a whole subgenre of artists just doing pop music in the same way huge pop stars do but they're just not as successful. Couldn't even finish it

This album was fine. It's VERY pop/synth heavy which is just not for me. Some of the beats are fun tho. I thought it was interesting how the 2nd disc was the same set of songs but in French. Real review.... 1.5. Liked Songs: "Doesn't matter" , "5 dollars" , "Make some sense"

An hour and a half of generic pop music. Her voice is fine and the production is great, but this was relatively torturous to try to get through. Felt like this was made by an advertising company.

Kinda standard fare euro-pop. Wasn’t super impressed.

Another one that's not a favorite. Poppy and French.

I am gonna go all the way back to sixth grade to express how I feel about this album. This shit is gay. Not gay as in homosexual, but gay as in faking an injury and calling timeout because you're about to get tagged in hide n' seek type of gay.

I really liked Tilted and their first album. Finding this album rather bland - with not much jumping out at me - especially the tracks in French which just wash overme as I have no idea what the songs are about. Was hoping to enjoy it more.

This wasn't objectionable, but I fail to understand the importance or significance of this album. This was all just basic 80s style New Wave/Pop without anything new or special to me. I'm definitely not listening to both volumes either. The first was kind of a waste of my time. Again, not objectionable or bad, but definitely not significant Can't rate this 3 stars. It's just not...I dunno...important feeling

I wanted to like this more than I did in all honesty. It is 80s electronic esque pop which is always an enjoyable sound to listen to but I really am a huge fan of HAIM and to me, this was just a not as good version of them. I did really like Doesn't Matter but apart from that it all really merged a bit into one but maybe that is a nice thing for some albums? Where you just can have them on and they keep you feelng a little on the happy side whilst doing other things? Unfortunately though I won't be listening again idon't think.

Nobody notices when it runs in the background. Quite unspectacular

This is fine.

Wasn’t for me.

Modern pop that is at first listen leaning heavily on 80's Michael Jackson. Well, why not? Unfortunately it's nowhere near as good. Pop should be immediate and fun. This is bland. More like a flavour of the month inclusion than an album you should hear before you die. YAWN. Best Tracks: Comme Si; Girlfriend; 5 Dollars

Smooth and sophisticated electropop. But way too vocal-focused for me.

Ain’t it like France to lionize lukewarm pop 10 years behind the zeitgeist

2010s French pop does 80s pop doesn't do it for me. Thematically, it's a fine album, just wasn't translated in an evocative manner for me. Favorite song: Goya Soda Least favorite: Comme si Knew before? No

En enkel sang i ny og næ er fint. Men som hent album bliver det kedeligt

I do not understand why this is on the list, it's not bad, but it feels a bit soulless and like I've already heard alot of it from other people. Again it's not bad, but it's instantly forgettable and just not sure why it's on the list

A throwback album to the production days of Quincy Jones, Jimmy Jam, and Terry Lewis that is about subject matter that I cannot relate to. Recorded well, but didn't resonate much with me, and I suspect this album won't have a place on this list long term.

no idea why this album is on this list

Generic, bland, 80's-style electronic pop. (Two or three albums worth!) The songs were too routinely unremarkable to warrant such a long album. It's not my thing but it's innocuous enough to save it from being a 1.

Elevator music. Boring as f.

Doesn’t offend. But once again, did the authors select the correct album?

Damn, I really wanted to like this. Despite the superb production and lyrics I can't understand (I don't have any problems with this, I like when I can't understand what they're saying), it didn't do anything for me. I didn't find any songs that stand out and it ended up sounding kind of generic. Which is a real shame, because like I said, I really wanted to like it. Oh well. 2.5/5 the definition of mid

Queer 80s pop. But shit.

this album was way too long. she doesn't have a bad voice but I just don't see why we need to have a 1.5 hour album with this many songs. While I have you, I thought it was incredibly unnerving to have Chris whispered to me in nearly every song.

There's some good beats here, I like The walker with its dream pop vibes. The English vocals are a bit weird at times. Maybe I should have listened in French... Some of the tracks I dislike but it's mostly inoffensive. This was a brand new artist for me so happy to have heard some of it, but I won't be going back to this except for maybe The walker.

Pretty mediocre. Not really my vibe. Can’t say I enjoyed it. Wouldn’t mind it if it was playing in like a shop or something.

Not my jam

I don’t know if recent bias is the right word to use here, but I’m kind of shocked that of all the albums in 2018 and onward, this made the list. It just feels very plain. I’m not sure what I was supposed to take away from it, and sure, there are a few decent pop tracks, but you can’t have an hour + long record filled mostly with, well, filler.

Drum machines in, me out.

Not my personal taste here. It's crappy 80s synthpop with new equipment and technology.

GO-YA, SO-DA it’s alright

One of those albums that sounds intriguing in the description but didn't live up to the hype. The sound is overly polished and the tunes are good but not great. I wanted to like this more than I did. Perhaps if my French was better I would appreciate the lyrics a bit more, but the backing was generic modern pop / R&B, to these ears.

Pleasant, inoffensive. Bland as fuck.

Nothing really stood out to me. It sounded like pretty normal Europop, but maybe I'm missing something.

Meh, just because a person is consequential with their identity an contributes to the overall socio-culturel debate that rightfully so discusses freedom, participation, power and bias and is demanding, music does not become intrinsically better or worse by that. So this is it: a bold person but a boring work of music, despite the partially personal and beyond average lyrics. Average pop, average production, average delivery. Nothing bad per se, but surely nothing for the list.

Really long, french synth-pop. Cool that it's a double album with one in English/French and one all French. Not my taste.

This album is not for me and I thought it was very middle of the road. Pros: the production was very good, and it had some good synth tones. Cons: I don't like their voice, and the songs were a little generic. I'm subtracting a point because the last couple songs were a little cringe and they gave me a head ache (I may have been hung over)

Nonsense, but a good way round any writer's block issues - just write two sets of words for each song and throw them out with zero quality control. This was picked out the day the Paris Olympics opened, maybe by coincidence, maybe not, but it made for a very French day in my house.

One long, tedious drumbeat with backing vocals.

It was ok, she sounds very much like Maggie Rogers. But the music was more generic pop, I don't really hear anything innovative or groundbreaking, other than every song being in English and French I'm not sure why this is on the list.

I guess. I'm not sure what I'm missing hearing that makes this noteworthy.

I listened to the French version and checked out the 2 tracks I didn't mind on the English version. 5 dols and L'Étranger (Voleur d'eau) were alright, tho nothing really surprised me. Not sure this really needs to be here. Sounds like a lot of other stuff and doesn't really bring something new.

well. this album cover is HOT. the music, on the other hand.... it does succeed in making a certain vibe, which is nice enough, but for me the spacious mixing and light, electronic sound aren't my taste when I had hoped for more to chew on when I was given this album. I will say that the lyrics are much more interesting. I most like the songs that take the electronic sound into something darker like What Must a Woman Do. In the end, I kinda prefer the French version!

i didnt like it. i never liked this kind of 80s throwback kind of pop in the first place. this one in particular was very boring, and was a drag to listen through. i listened to the english one, and really did not feel the need to relisten to this again in french. i love synthpop, but this was just so mid. its tolerable for a listen, but just so mind numbing. sorry. 2 personal favs: doesnt matter

way too long, didn’t care enough to hear the french versions of the songs

Cool to have a version in both French and English, though I stopped listening part way through the French version. I didn't like the album enough to listen to it twice. Fine 80s pop (published in 2018), but not great

I thought I might like this for a bit but then it just became annoying.

Nothing wrong with this other than the length really but nothing to set it apart to me either.

Boy, that went on forever. It has its moments but it's far too long and rarely very interesting.

I would give it 3. But it's just too long. It lost me through the second disk.

Decent pop album. Good vocals and music. Not really for me, but I enjoyed the listen. Goya Soda was my favorite.

Simple, clean dance pop. Héloïse Letissier's voice is so clear and effortless; at times vulnerable, at times strong. Plenty of phrases sound like either Michael or Janet Jackson. However, the songwriting is lacking. Aside from the great voice and DIY production, nothing sticks out as particularly innovative nor problematic. Safely middle of the road; easy to like, and just as easy to dismiss. "5 Dollars" has the best pop, "What's-Her-Face" has the confident seduction, and "Make Some Sense" has some of the softest tones of what this album has to offer.

This was an ok album for me with some cool 80s electro R and B sounds. The guy's voice is a similar high pitched tone to Michael Jackson or Geddy Lee I think. I'm not sure why it's on this list though. I would have put a Chromeo or a Holy Ghost! album on here instead.of this one, as those other two occupy the same sound space to me but have some better overall songs and albums than this guy.

Unremarkable and not for me.

Glossy-to-a-fault wanna-be 80s modern pop that I'll expect to hear at medium-to-low volume waiting for my mocha frappachino - please hold the whipped cream. Rarely if ever offensive-sounding but entirely unmemorable and vacuous. 4/10 2 stars.

Want Michael was groot.

This shot got m…

very plain, very okay album. 4/10.

Listened to the English half/version. Inoffensive, bland, with little (sonic, lyrical, tempo or tonal) variance throughout. A pop record that never pops, too constipated to dance or cry.

Sounds like late 80s pop...I enjoyed a couple songs. Didn't listen to them all in French. 2/5

The first time I saw this artist was reading a cbeebies bedtime story. The reading of that kids book was much more entertaining than this

Respectable tour de force, although doesn't feel special to me. Maybe it would feel more important if I was really deep in the LGBTQ community, but as is, it's kind of a shrug.

Pleasant enough electro pop from some dodgy looking French bird. It doesn't seem to go anywhere, with no highs or lows in any emotional sense. I prefer La Roux. She did this sort of thing better. 2

Listened to the English and French versions, which I'm counting as giving it two spins - did not enjoy. This is very polished, earnest pop. Archetypal. Generic, even. Really not my thing. If I was still exposed to general media and had to listen to these songs a couple of times per week against my will I think I might grow to really hate them, but minimal exposure is just about tolerable. Fave track - eh, "Machin-chose" was more about being atmospheric than poppy, so that one, I suppose...

I'll be honest, I was fully expecting to hate this a lot more than I did. It's still not anything close to appealing to me, but it's not nails on a chalkboard to me.

Don't get this one wither.

Tu n'es pas Kate Bush stop

interesting concept. i’m not a big 80s synth pop person so maybe this is why it fell flat for me.

Listened to the 11 song English version. Crappy, depressing sounding modern pop. Only enjoyed the nostalgia from hearing some of the throwback 80s sounds. The Stranger was the best song; it has a riff that sounds like Peter Gabriel's Shock the Monkey. Creepy album cover. Stay far away from anyone who looks at you like this.

Not as terrible as a lot of the comments here said, but not my thing.

Pretty unremarkable. I didn’t hate it, I guess, but I really got nothing out of it.

Rollazo de disco. Rollé de disqué.

Yeah nah.

JcPenny's ad music

Artsy pop. Sounds a bit like Weekend or MJ at times, but not as good.

It's a pop album. Production is good I guess. 2 stars

Not my kind of music

Not my style of music

Also not my jam

Hi Chris

nice start a bit samey througout

I like the French inclusion, but this is pretty forgettable pop.

There's a lot of fun sounds on this album, but I've just never been able to get into their sound for whatever reason. A little too poppy, and without any songs that really stand out to me.

I didn't mind listening to it, but it's not really my style

goooooooooood, its so long dude and its too french

Why not Chaluer Humaine?! Why is there two of every song 2

It's rare to find a band that is so rated creating an album with so much filler on it

This record is too long, I can't do this, I'm sure it's fine pop music it's just not for me.

I guess this must be an artist that is popular due to performance/messaging/image/lyrics rather than due to quality of the music. That's all good and well if you know their background and attend their concert - but hearing about Christine for the first time and listening to the French album on Spotify, my judgement is based solely on the music, which is lackluster, to say the least. Sounds like it would have been at home in the late 80s rather than just a few years ago - but even back in the 80s a lot of the musicians doing the same thing were simply better at it.

Hmmm. 2010s French K.D. Lang vibes? Not for me.

Just repetitive. It has its moments, but it’s not great overall, doesn’t justify the length of most of the songs.

first album back after a while, and it was very underwhelming. although this is not necessarily a bad sounding electronic pop album, nothing really popped out to me. this as well as a lot of the songs dragging on a bit too long led to this one feeling quite saturated.

its not good. but its not offensively bad.

Unlikely to listen again. Has some 80s pop synth vibes

I actually enjoyed this album for the first half hour or so, but then it just wouldn't end. There must have been four or five times where I thought "this must be the last song, right?", only to find I had half a dozen or more tracks left.

Too much French

What if 80s but in 2018? It's okay but not good, it's very superficial. 2.

Chris is the second album by French singer Christine and the Queens. It is a pop / R&B album with themes surrounding sex and sexuality. It was a well produced, danceable, and an empowering album for the feminist and queer cultures. The music from Chris will engage your mind, heart, and body. Overall, I think the album was good. Can't complain about the music or lyrics, but the vibe I felt from listening to this album was too sticky-icky for me. The themes around sex were a little too on the nose for me and ended up turning me off to the album. However, if you are into overly-horny music, then this is the album for you.

nothing special, boring; french version is better

Kind of cool that the group recorded tracks in both English and French. That being said, I really didn't like this album. Very poppy, I sense some euro-pop influence as well as icons like Michael Jackson throughout, but it never clicked with me. Fave tracks: Girlfriend

Rollazo de disco. Rollé de disqué.

This was quite an interesting album. I was somewhat surprised that given the extraordinary critical acclaim of this artist that I was not aware of him. The music is catchy and of course interesting that it switches languages so readily. I can see why it would be very exciting to the French many of whom are facile in both languages. I found the language switching somewhat challenging from a listening standpoint because my French is fairly weak. Lots to like hear and lots of interesting sounds. It sounds both new and a little 80's.

Very average. 2018. This isn't old enough of an album to be considered for a list like this. There are so many brilliant albums that aren't on the list, and this one is? 2.5

Didn’t do much for me. Maybe I should have tried the English version, but I usually prefer a person’s first language (eg Ásgeir, Shakira)

Some ass

For me this is okay, but not special, just pleasant pop music. Possibly her lyrics or attitude to life make it special? She once was live at the Best Kept Secret Festival and her show was very diva like, with perfect dance moves and so on. Found that quite boring but would also never go to e.g. Madonna.

Rollazo de disco. Rollé de disqué.

S/He has a fairly good pop voice, but therein lies the rub, it's so smoothly inoffensive that it gets boring real fast. And the slickly produced backing synth/instruments are so generic every song basically melds into the other so you can't really distinguish them. For some reason I keep getting reminded of Michael Jackson, but at least MJ had a bit of edge to his music. This was just profoundly boring and Spotify even gave us two Discs of it, ugh.

As others have suggested, the French versions might be more palatable. Really not my thing but it’s very well produced. Essentially a double album, it runs for far too long. Can’t give it more than a 2…

I didn't love it. Didn't hate it. It was just kind of there. No desire to revisit it.

Ok was ok got a bit bored

Better in French, but only because my rusty O-level French couldn't keep up so the lyrics annoyed me less

It was enjoyable, but went on for far too long in the same style, until by the end I was angrily doing little Christine and The Queens impressions to myself.

Some of the synth beats were quite good, but on a whole I didn't like it, highly doubt I'm the target audience.

mediocre Bjork derivative with quasi-Daft Punk sensibilities. eminently missable.

Eh, just not my thing musically. But more power to Redcar!

Okay, but not my kind of music. Certainly doesn’t need a double album when much of it sounds the same. Had to pop on and out of this due to length and had trouble recalling what I had heard and what I hadn’t.

What it felt like to shop at a Banana Republic in 2018.

This artist may carry a cultural value and represent a significant breakthrough. But I don’t really give a damn because the music is boring as hell.

poppy, not catchy enough for me

Absolutely not the kind of stuff I listen to and really uninterested in this

Interesting.

Looks like Johnny Depp on the cover photo. No further notes.

I'm a sucker for well made pop music so I had high hopes for this but it's bland, very bland.

Superficially, this has many features I often love - European bubblegum pop/electronic with LGBTQ leanings. But I found it so boring and unmemorable. I liked the French part of the album better in large part bc the lyrics in English are terrible. Sadly, this was a "MEH" for me.

👎french

So sad to hear the first French album being this shit. So anyay here is a list of great french albums I recommend : Mika : Life in cartoon motion (in english but he's french) Stromae : Racine carré (he's Belgian but you get it) Orelsan : Civilisation I don't know which album you should hear from them, but give these artists a try : George Brassens Edith Piaf Alain Souchon

2.4ish, had some meta

Pretty good weird album. But too long for my liking

Bituka.

I like her voice, and there are a few interesting melodies, but most of the album doesn't do anything for me. 2.5

boring! 2/5

yea... no....

Bad 1980s pop stylings refreshed in French for the 21st century! 💩

Not the most boring thing I've ever heard, but it's up there.

Bit of a meh for me on this one. Nothing really grabbed in a general way on this. Most songs inoffensive a couple rise above that descriptor. 2.5 🌟

ok but not for me and too long

I respect but not for me

Not a huge pop fan. Thought this had potential but felt it didn't build on it and fell a bit flat. Oddly, the French versions that followed the English were much more enjoyable so my star rating is for the French version. Don't bother with the English.

Ei kyllä uponnut edes vähää alusta. Tusinakamaa

Ei uponnu ja ihan liian pitkä

Pop genérico la verdad, no veo la novedad.

3/9/22 This album was fine. Nice enough for background, but only the French. The English version bothered me, probably because lyrics are such a big deal for me. Wouldn’t listen to again. Favorite song: Come Si (French version)

Bit of a meh for me on this one. Nothing really grabbed in a general way on this. Most songs inoffensive a couple rise above that descriptor. 2.5 🌟

That's weird. 2 days in a row of 2018 albums. Again, a weird choice for the list? French pop a la Tegan and Sara. It was fine.

Started well but kind of fell off

Middling.

Production is excellent - songs are not so special.

Niet mijn jam, beetje slap en saai

It's not as bad as you think - there are some interesting sounds layered in there. Need headphones to appreciate this one! Also, Let's hear it for the keytar!

It’s an ok pop album. Kinda cool how she did the songs in both French and English. It’s well produced and some of the songs are catchy. Nothing too exciting though. I can’t see myself listening to it much more. 3.6/10

Deshalb auch der nächste, zur Abwertung führender Kritikpunkt: Warum more of the same? Warum diese Hybris? Wer braucht das? Niemand? Niemand. Really? Not really, pardonnez-moi.

Electronica, 84 eme album =>1/5

>Rahim Redcar Pfffffffffffffffffff

God damn is this terrible. It’s like I’m stuck in a trendy mall fitting room in 1987. Bailed after a few songs.

Dwie godziny popu po francusku.

Un as o absoluto

Boring and overrated…

First time I heard of this artist or listen to this album. Loved being turned onto something new, but I didn’t really do that much for me.

Album #169 Christine and the Queens: Chris This is the first time this list has truly baffled me. There have been some inclusions that I thought were both culturally insignificant and mediocre; however, I was able to write them off as being from a time when the list curator was actively in the music scene. 10 different average electronic albums from the 90s? I guess the guy was just big into the scene at the time. However, you can’t tell me the same guy who thought that a Red Snapper album was essential, also stuck around listening to random shit for 20 more years until this came out and decided it must make his list. Is this the worst thing I’ve ever heard? No. However, I just can’t see any convincing argument for why this would be an essential album. Essential albums from the 2010s are already rarer than those from past decades, just by the nature of not having time to become as influential. But an album which largely passed everyone by, and doesn’t even seem to be that cherished in the LGBTQ community (of which there are infinitely better candidates for albums), just seems like an absolute waste. I listened to the French version since I figured that was how it was intended, and truthfully, I didn’t want to listen to the cringy lyrics, but honestly, the album was still just absolutely unnecessary. So for that reason, I have to dish out a pretty abysmal score. Best Song: 5 Dols Worst Song: Le G Score out of 10: 3

Good lawd

Not something I'd ever really enjoy...

You know what they call pop music in France? Le Pop with cheese.

boring

Hemskt

I haven’t heard this before. I have not even heard of Christine and the Queens, so this will be very interesting. Unfortunately it is not very interesting. This sounds exactly like it could have been on top 40 radio in 1987 or 88, which is my least favorite era of pop music besides the stomp-clap-hey era of the early 2010s. There are a few songs that sound more modern, but in a rejected from the last Taylor Swift album kind of way. I could appreciate it if it expanded on that late 80s sound in any way or pulled in some new jack swing instead of rehashing a dated aesthetic. This shows up as a double album on streaming which it really doesn’t need to be, but apparently she released both an english and a french version of the album and only shows up double on streaming and special collector’s editions. So I won’t hold that against her. Although not enough to raise the score here.

This is something I would expect to see on a Spotify discover weekly, not on a list of the most important albums ever made

Really, really not my thing at. Disliked this.

musica de bolleras, 1/5

I find it very hard to believe that this deserves to be in the top 1001 albums.

Offensively bland

Why is this on the list? It sounds like background music that I hear when entering a generic store – and this is not a quality sign. Some songs remind me of Michael Jackson but without any soul (in both senses of the word). So I ask why the producer of the album did not spot it and either made something out of it or changed the songs on this record.

Straight-up boring.

Not my vibe and also too long.

Even if you like this album do you believe it should be on a list of 1001 best albums of all time? It's an incredibly unexceptional album. Deeply boring and uninspired. I'm grateful that no Taylor Swift albums have so far made it on this list but I think I would prefer that instead of whatever this is.

This does not sound like it came out in 2018. It DOES sound like garbage, I couldn't get through the whole thing I tried

Ooof not for me today

Trash.

I have never heard of this artist, nor any songs by them. This just seems like super bland, generic, contemporary pop music to me. I think it's trying to sound like 80s synth pop which I mostly didn't like when it first came out - and this definitely didn't add anything new or interesting. She has a decent voice. And I assume it takes some talent for writing lyrics for the same song in 2 different languages - which it looks like she did. NOTE: I did not listen to the full French versions of each song since I don't understand French language. But.... This is just not for me. I listened to this a few times and not one song grabbed me as something I need to listen to again. It just kinda happened in the background and never once did I go "hey, that's cool". 1001 Albums commentary -> I have a long list of albums and artists I would put on this list that for some reason did not make it. It does get frustrating when I get a whole bunch of 1 star albums in a row - but I guess you gotta work your way through the crap to find the diamonds. And we all have different ears. Liked songs on Spotify: 0/11 Rating: 1/5 (should be zero)

I know this guy from his collaborations with one of my favourite artists Charli xcx but I feel like she deserves a spot more than this (I’m certain brat will get added in the next version but she deserves 2.). And also the lyrics were very cringy, I’m LGBTQ myself and love other androgynous artists but it feels like it’s all he talks about. The God is stupid song also came over as very r/atheist once again I’m also atheist.

Didn't care for it. I'm old school...

didnt like it skipped the french bit.

Pop Trash

Tried. No.

French version of Ninja Sex Party.

Just what nobody needs to hear before they die - a dude who thinks he’s a girl, singing in French. Merde.

I wanted to like it but sadly it was bleh contemporary pop. It might have a great message but I was too bored to really focus on that aspect unfortunately. Yet again he could really use some help with his 2010+ selections. Rating: 1.3

Non merci

Da fuq??

I hated this so much I couldn't finish the album. It all seemed terribly retro even by 2018 standards.

It's really trying so hard to be artsy that it forgot it also should be entertaining.

No mfdoom, no jcole, only 1 2pac album and no tyler the creator yet i have to listen to mid french. Mano chao can speak 4-5 languages and make music in all of them, some of his french lines i like. But if you make a multi lingual album at least make it good.

Took generic pop and somehow made it worse

genuinely some of the worst pop slop ive heard in a WHILE
