Reviews (page 7 of 12)

No jaa. On seassa todella kovia biisejä, mutta sitten myös käytännössä sietämättömiä jollotuksia. Mennään keskitien kolmosella.

Presley just kinda goes through the expected motions, but like it's not necessarily bad, per se. It's just mostly predictable. But Elvis is good, most of the songs are good. "Suspicious Minds" is a classic, "In the Ghetto" is solid, and "Long Black Limousine" caught my ear.

It's Elvis

Well sung, some nicely written songs on this album, but it really doesn't stand out that well. What makes this album special? 3/5

I expected a higher Energy level throughout the album, but still I liked most of the tunes.

Better than I thought it would be. Think my gran would love it.

I am of an age where I grew up with the shadow of Elvis. I wasn't old enough to have any strong feelings because none of his stuff was played much anymore, but he was absolutely a mythical icon and clips of him would appear in lots of places. I'm most familiar with the 50s stuff and the later Vegas stuff. This album is interesting to me because it's neither of those. There's no old school Rock 'n Roll here, nor does it seem like the caricature that was the Vegas era. The band is killer and the tunes put me in mind of folks like Tom Jones, Georgie Fame, George Jones, and the Righteous Brothers, which all make sense in context. The gospel-style backing vocals on some of the tracks bring a bit of the 50s forward. And whether you like him or not, that voice is iconic and he absolutely knew how to use it. Definitely an album that had me in a contemplative state, and I enjoyed it more than I expected to. Daddy Don't Cry is a fucking trip though, innit?

Bruce Springsteen wishes

From the album cover and title of this, I went in fully expecting a live recording of Elvis in Memphis. Instead, we have Elvis' 10th studio album, and I have to admit, it kind of felt like it. 10 albums is a feat, and there are undoubtedly some classics here. Suspicious Minds is a mega hit, and In The Ghetto deserves every bit of respect it gets. But the rest of the covers just feel a bit phoned in, but even Elvis phoning it in is pretty good. It's my first Elvis album on the list, and I can't help but want some of the punchier, rockier Elvis I know of. Highlight: Suspicious Minds Lowlight: It Keeps Right On A-Hurtin' Surprise Hit: True Love Travels On a Gravel Road

It's Elvis. Hard to hate, hard to love. Obviously important historically, but its just quite dull in a modern context. Even if it it does have in the Ghetto and suspicious minds it only just tips into a 3.

It's interesting in places, but I really don't like Elvis's vocals. I still don't understand why he became so famous. Just ordinary love songs without any special features.

made me think of my mom. she loves elvis. gonna call her.

The backing band are the stars of this show! So tight and punchy, with a really funky town. Elvis' voice doesn't carry the same power or idiosyncrasy as previous releases, but really comes into its own as the album progresses and the songs becomes a bit more soulful.

I prefer the grittiness in some of his earlier stuff, but Elvis’s voice is undeniable. This album just seems more polished and less interesting than his other songs. Favorites: suspicious minds, in the ghetto (reminds me of that one new girl episode)

Elvis, (the king). Mycket blues influerat med hans fina stämma. Härliga call and response stämmor och blåsinstrument. "Suspicious minds" goes hard. "Power of my love" banger blues 12:a Kul att lyssna på gamla klassikers som the ghetto också. Gillade detta album! 6.5/10

This the the first time I ever sat down and listened to an entire Elvis record. It was a mix of songs that sound like the soundtrack to an Oceans 11 style "cool" movie, and some croony songs. I don't see myself adding this to the regular rotation, but I had a decent time listening to this. Suspicious Minds is a classic.

There were some hits on this album but it also kinda bored me at times

It's Elvis. Kind of an old and surpassed era of music that makes it hard to judge. A good listen but feels pretty quaint more than anything. Fav tracks: Kentucky Rain

It's Elvis

Suspicious Minds is an all time classic. The rest of this is just ok, songwriting-wise. Great performances though, and wow what an iconic sound.

Man Elvis's later stuff isn't nearly as good as his early stuff. But, this also isn't nearly as bad as many people make it out to be.

He sounds nice

It was ok, not my cup of tea but did not dislike

Sounds good but not my favorite.

Elvi certainly had a excellent voice and the melodies in this album are soft and easy on the ears . The album has an old school vibe a bit before my time but quite tolerable.

need to come back to this one in like 10-15 years

Good album. But there is no dynamic. Most of the songs sound similar.

Elvis with a bit of a different twang. Not so bad,

I dont like elvis and I dont like live. This is good

Its elvis, its a classic. Not the music i listen to on a daily basis but fits some scenarious very well

So cheesy it's gooey sometimes. The music blows me away, the choice of songs tends to amp up the cheese factor. EP's delivery is what it is. He really knew how to use his voice as an instrument. Would've loved to have seen the sessions- the musicians and back up singers were really firing on all cylinders. All in all though a three is about it for me. It's interesting from a pop music history perspective but not something I'll listen to again.

For fucks sake... Had good notes written, disappeared when I closed the window. There goes half an hour! Didn't love, barely liked. 3 stars. Here's the gist of it... Largely forgettable. Elvis with strings and horns? No thank you. In the Ghetto? Camp. Suspicious Minds? Great. Did Elvis really throw his career away with those movies in the 60s, or would it have happened anyway? There's my question. But Elvis Presley trying to stay relevant in the late 60s really had a fish-out-of-water vibe.

I can say that this album is good, but it’s not really my vibe. The sounds quality on this album isn’t great, I know it’s old, but there are older albums with better sound. I feel like I might have overhyped the album in my mind so I was disappointed when listening to it. None of the songs get exciting and I don’t I’d ever go listening to the album again.

elvis is...alright

meh, its okay... a few songs are amazing and the rest feel pretty boring but aside from that yeah its fine

Hard one to review. Despite the country soul studio backing, most of the album seems to make the case that Elvis is ultimately only a middling singer of either country or soul, and much of it seems affected, sentimental, or just a bit dull. But then you have In The Ghetto and Suspicious Minds, which alone make a case for greatness. In the end, though, he didn't write any of these songs, just performed them.

This has nothing like the power and fun of Elvis's early work, but it is a nice transitional album to his "middle age" period, when he could still entertain in a slightly mellower (though often cheesier) way.

My first complete Elvis album. I have heard "In the Ghetto" a lot before, and I believe "Suspicious Minds" as well. It is interesting, because I often find that the most popular songs on albums are not necessarily my favorite. Almost the entire time I listened to this album, I was having a kind of cognitive dissonance, because I kept subconsciously thinking this was Orville Peck. Their voices are so similar. I don't tend to read a lot of music critics or things like that, but I don't feel like I have ever picked up Orville Peck naming Elvis as an inspiration.

Prima, ik vind andere nummers van hem leuker maar ook leuk om dit gehoord te hebben. Dikke priem.

i would’ve loved this album even more if it was sang by a black man ?

A solid collection of songs for a live album.

War doch chillig?

Stimme stark, Musik eher schwach. In Summe 3 Sterne.

As an artifact of a different era, this is a remarkable sounding record. Elvis is in fine voice and the songs, for the most part, are engaging. I was a child when this was released and 16 when Elvis died only 7 years after this album was released. During this period I discovered Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens, The Stooges and the Sex Pistols. Elvis was everywhere but his discography was pretty overplayed and so like most teens I moved on. What I recognize now 55 years later, is that on albums like this one, where fit Elvis was at his peak how important Elvis’ vocals were both the center of each song and a guide for the magnificent players on this record. That is, Elvis recordings are truly distinctive- more so than any other artist perhaps because they capture Elvis’ presence in each song. You may not like the song but you can’t say you wouldn’t know that it was Elvis. My favorites are a short list: Westin’ that Loved On Look, After Loving You, True Love Travels on a Gravel Road, Any Day Now and, of course, Suspicious Minds. It’s not that the other songs are lesser. It really is how the musicians capture Elvis whose vocal performances are genius. Any Day Now is just as moving as Suspicious Minds but most people only know the latter. Perhaps it’s time to give Elvis another chance. 7/10

Cute little album

My dad loved the song "in the ghetto" - he said it was his favorite Elvis song so I have a sentimental attachment to that! The sound on this really is pretty cool - I love the organ and the production of the drums - and Elvis's vocal performances are really impassioned

Elvis. That's it.

Yeh, elvis live will revisit

Pretty good. It feels like a lot of the tracks sound the same, though. Favourite Track(s): In The Ghetto, Any Day Now Least Favourite Track(s): I'll Hold You In My Heart

Elvis.

Good songs, fantastic expensive backing and arrangements. In the hands of Sinatra or George Jones this would be a five star lp. Even Glenn Campbell or Neil Diamond would have made a good album. But Elvis, although he has a good voice is not at that level. He switches between loud and quiet irrespective of what the song calls for; he doesn’t enunciate clearly. Yes he’s more competent that Buble and Robbie Williams but he doesn’t pack an emotional punch. But all in all it’s a fair to middling performance.

When I was 7 or 8 there was an Elvis retrospective show on either right before or right after Casey Kasem and I ate it up. Now I appreciate his voice and realize this was possibly peak Elvis, but all I feel is the schlock that surrounded him now. So many tracks and so few good tracks on this release. It could possibly be better if I didn't get this entry to consider until the 26th of December, where I've been pelted by the slings and arrows of outrageous Christmas ditties for the last 2 weeks. Sorry Elvis, you were a great gateway to The Beatles, Pink Floyd and other bands that supplanted my love for you. That said, Power of My Love was surprising to revisit.

Very different vibes from early Elvis. Seemed more chill, and loved In The Ghetto.

Elvis' Big Comeback Album was probably hailed as a triumph at the time of its release, but today the most iconic part of it is probably the red wall of dancers in the background of the cover art. I only recognized one of the songs. So much for the King of Rock. Key tracks: In the Ghetto

1969 Elvis is a different artist than during his 1950’s popularity and still much of the same shtick. I can’t help but feel a lack of conviction in what he’s singing. Perhaps because he didn’t write his own songs. He feels like more of a performer and less than authentic. Still, he delivers some poignant moments to here. The band is great. I’m Moving On, Gentle On My Mind, Suspicious Minds and In the Ghetto are stand outs.

Meh. Not the biggest fan. It's not horrible though

The last few songs do some real heavy lifting to shore up an otherwise unremarkable album. Suspiciously minds in particular was great

This album starts slow but the really revs up in the back half. Kentucky Rain is a banger. 3.5 stars

some were v good

some songs were good and others were decent enough background music

not usually much of an elvis guy, but this one was pretty good. the bass player in particular shines.

Enjoyable but unsure if I’ll visit again.

Bit too warbly

His earlier stuff was better, but this one still show his vocal power.

Good few songs, the rest is meh

Yup, that's Elvis alright.

Nice👍🏼

En ole koskaan ollut iso Elviksen fani, mutta tämä levy oli ihan kiva eikä tuntunut pitkältä.

While not quite matching the brilliance of Elvis’s pre-Hollywood recordings, From Elvis in Memphis stands out for including “In the Ghetto,” arguably one of his finest songs from the post-movie era. Listening to this album always brings back warm memories of my grandmother, who was a devoted Elvis fan.

Not Elvis at his best. Feels over produced.

Late-model commercial Elvis - the period where the bangers were few and far between, but when they hit, you thought 'yeah, that was a good one. Nothing inherently bad here, but I also spent the listening time doing other things and none of the songs really grabbed me or made me thing 'yeah, that was a good one', which basically sums up

The couple of big hits save this from being a 2.

i very much liked

His tenth album. Rock n Roll / Rock. Early Elvis and 68' Comeback Special Elvis are my favourite versions of the King of Rock n Roll. This album has two absolutely brilliant tracks with In The Ghetto and Suspicious Minds. However the rest of the album is fairly cheesy filler. That voice though !

A decent listen, but a more slow-paced album. Would likely not seek this out but wouldn’t mind if it was on.

I've never been an Elvis fan, but that has nothing to do with the fact that I don't think this album should've been included here. Mind you, this has been in Rolling Stone's 'Greatest 500 Albums of All Time', a major stretch as well. My parents weren't even a thought in my grandparents' mind in '69, so maybe at that time this was something outstanding (doubt it, since only one song topped the charts), but this list wasn't made in '69. Music has evolved since then, and even if you wanted to, you couldn't listen to EVERYTHING produced since. My point being, this album is fine, however, why choose an average album over other great ones? Just because it contains Elvis's last no.1 hit? A tribute, a farewell of sorts? We should be focusing on the album not the artist. Of course Elvis was influential, among other favourites of the list's author, but that doesn't mean SO MANY albums of theirs have to be included. Though, to be fair, the rock-n-roll king doesn't have that many when compared to other artists *cough* *cough* Bob Dylan.

I absolutely agree with the inclusion of Elvis on this list (Presley, not Costello, I will never agree with the unjustified amount of Elvis Costello on this list) but I don't think that the albums chosen are the best ones from him. There are better Elvis records in my opinion. Nevertheless, this is a pretty good album, and it has Suspicious Minds on and I love that song, but I will give it a 3 because I am not that blown away and I really think there are better albums to choose from.

It's Elvis, y'all. I wonder how many Elvis albums we're going to have to navigate. Is this a live album? I guess we'll find out. This is the first Elvis album I remember listening to. We all know at least 10 Elvis songs, right? Probably more. This album only has one song that I knew from looking at the tracklist. The songs themselves aren't the best. Obviously we're dealing with songs from a time and culture long since lost, many of them mixing Country, Blues, Gospel, soppy ballads. Normally I wouldn't care for most of those genres and actively stay away from them. But Elvis was such a unique presence and voice that he makes them worth hearing, at least once. That said, there are some entirely intolerable songs here - especially the soppy Country shite. Elvis tries his best to make them not shite, but doesn't quite get there. You can just about get through those with your sanity intact. Beepy arrk flnmnrr! The faster, rockier stuff is better but there's nowhere near enough here to warrant a four star score. An Elvis greatest hits, featuring his best songs, that would be a four star or possibly a five star album, it this is let down by the faff. Some great playing a foot tapping stuff to be sure, but not enough of it.

Too much fluff

= The Beatles Suspicious hearts is an all timer. The rest is fine

Legendary performance by the king that stands the test of time

I’ve heard Elvis, but certainly not a whole album. This stuff must have blown people away when it first came out. Lots of energy. Powerful voice. Was worried before I started but this was a good listen.

Not my fave but he’s still popular for a reason

This was good, Elvis is definitely a musical blind spot for me so I’m glad I got to listen to some of his stuff, but more than anything it made me wanna listen to Johnny Cash. I did like this though, it just like wasn’t that interesting. He’s a good singer though, I’m not gonna be upset when I get his other albums in this. Favorites: Long Black Limousine, I’m Movin’ On, After Loving You

Pleasantly surprised while also feeling like similar artists of the time (Roy Orbison) would have nailed some of the slower songs better. However enjoyed it throughout really with no real duds

Buen album en vivo de Elvis, si es cierto que algunos temas caen en el saco de musica de ascensor/background music, no deja de incluir algunos buenos temardos.

Late period Elvis? Went on a bit, but had it's moments

More country Elvis than rock and roll

Slow, mellow, country-sounding Elvis

I may have to take a relisten. I am no means an Elvis fan, ive never heard this album nor these songs. nothing grabbed me, nothing said "hes the king" from this album.

Alku aivan kuraa liveäänityksestä lähtien. Lopussa näyttäs olevan ihan biisejäkin. Ei lantiolle voi antaa kakkosta

Eipä ole kunkkua vielä kuultukaan. Ei todellakaan hänen paras levynsä. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

More enjoyable and filled with more cloying Americana than even other Elvis albums. Not bad.

It's OK, but Elvis is overrated for mine. I like Suspicious Minds - remember hearing the NSW Police Band play it once at a community festival.

Comeback, white soul album It keeps right on a hurtin' I'm moving on Any day now

My biggest gripe is that this album gets boring fast. Elvis’s voice is fantastic, but it’s all so one-note that it’s difficult to keep my attention. There’s some standouts though, and Suspicious Minds stands as my favorite Elvis song.

There aren't many elvis albums that can hold my attention front to back, but this did it. Long black limousine, gentle on my mind, and suspicious minds were highlights, though I will say that in the ghetto felt a little sketch sung by elvis. Solid album.

Kinda just meh. Maybe I should listen again another time. Wasn't in the mood.

Huh. Elvis.

Elvis Presley - ein bisschen Rock'n'Roll, aber vor allem viel Schmalz

Solid Elvis

great mix, probably rules on vinyl. elvis' voice grates me over time, but I'm diggin the soul on this record. not a love song guy, but would scoop

When I think of Elvis I guess I mostly think of the sound of his earlier music. Upon listening and of course seeing the release year I realized this was a bit later on in his career. It definitely has a more produced sound, which at times is good. Some of the songs are pretty sappy but also touching, like the Daddy Don’t Cry one and the one about Mama’s roses. Nothing amazing about this but certainly not bad, I generally enjoyed it.

At first it was alright, also I was in the shower for most of it; an unecessary long shower, not paying close attention. Then any day now started playing and it was really good! So were some of following songs, suspicious mind and Kentucky rain I liked! I was thinking maybe maybe the whole album had been this good, but it's really the ending of this. Yeah it might not be the most famous song from this but Any Day Now is my favorite. Love this one!

Suspicious minds is the only song stopping a 2 here

5 - AVERAGE

In the ghet-tooooooo

First full Elvis album I listened to. Wholly pleasant experience. Maybe some tracks were more forgettable than others, but none of them were bad. My favorite tracks were probably "In the Ghetto" and "Suspicious Minds."

Most fun Elvis because he sounds like Cher

I was not expecting to like this as much as I did. “I’m Movin’ On” and “Power of my Love” are definite stand-outs

I was never keen on Elvis, although I appreciate he had a good voice. I remember "in the ghetto" as a single in the charts. the style of singing when I was growing up wasn't for me, I'm sure it will be good for Elvis fans, but not my cup of tea

No great surprises here. Knew the 2 famous ones and the others were what I expected from Elvis. An enjoyable listen

I was hoping to like this more. It’s not bad by any means but most of it didn’t grab my attention.

"suspicious minds" (his best song) woulda bumped this up to 4 stars, but it's a bonus track. i don't make the rules.

Yea, it's fine. I'm willing to accept that it was more important to people when it came out though.

The crooner feel definitely isn't my style, but it feels real and raw to an extent. Better than I thought it'd be.

I like a bit of Elvis - but not slow country Elvis with his nasal vocal vibrations chomping on every syllable. Love Suspicious Minds and In the Ghetto - but everything else borders between meh and annoying.

He’s great, everything’s just a bit lovelorn for me right now

Decent, but can I get something more recent?

Not his best, but it’s still Elvis.

Classic.

Typical Elvis. Solid but nothing super interesting. Couple great songs

Big man and I have come to terms. I respect him. Not ever going to be my muse. But appreciate it.

Just Elvis

Foi um bon listen. Não me vejo a rever todo o álbum novamente mas tem uns bangers ótimos para tomar banho.

Eh, I'm not really an Elvis person, but it was pretty good.

Nota do Pedro.

Prefiero el comeback del 68. Igual está bueno.

C'était sympa, pas du Elvis comme je connaissais, je savais pas que Suspicious Minds était de lui.

C'est Elvis quoi 3/5

Bloated, Vegas crooner Elvis in training on this effort. His voice is smooth and round, and there is a distinct country flavour to it, but I kind of like it.

I believe it was ray charles or some other black musician that threw crazy shade at Elvis. I’ll never forget it, and ever since I don’t see him as a try hard.

Pretty good. Kind of maudlin but like the bluesy aspect.

I honestly had no idea Suspicious Minds was made in the late 60’s. Figured that it was made in the 50’s, but I guess I assume all of Elvis’ hits were made in the 50’s. Honestly, this just proves that I can only take Elvis in single doses. The idea of “Elvis Goes Country Sort Of” isn’t a hard sell for me. I always kind of liked older Elvis, with how his voice matured, but he can only do so much with this material. I kinda hate saying this, but for the late 60’s, this feels dated, even back then. I mean this was meant as a comeback and why change what isn’t broken, but for 1969, I’d honestly prefer other albums. Favorite track: Suspicious Minds in general, True Love Travels on a Gravel Road for the original track list. Other hits: Power of My Love, Westin’ That Loved On Look, Long Black Limousine, Any Day Now

Coherence - some songs dont really fit into the theme of romantic love but ig they are still kinda about love 3,3/5 Overall impression - way to cheesy for my liking 2,5/5 Wearin that loved on look - cheesy as hell; shoop shoop shoop 3/5 Only the strong survive - 2,5/5 I'll hold you in my heart - 2/5 Long Black Limousine - 4/5 (fav) It keeps right on a-hurtin - this is alot of drama (and im not here for it); also his voice sounds weird in this one 2/5 (least fav) Im Movin on - this country? 2/5 Power of my love - this is creepy; but it sounds alright 2,3/5 Gentle on my mind - 2,5/5 After loving you - cheesy, but also a lil sweet 3/5 True Love travels on a gravels road - 3/5 Any Day Now - 2/5 In the Ghetto - good message and also okay sound; its kinda comical that they sing the "in the ghetto" with like an angels choir 2,5/5 Suspicious Minds - the chorus is catchy 3/5 Dont cry daddy - "together we'll find a brand new mommy" is crazy 2,5/5 Kentucky Rain - 3/5 Mama liked the roses - he for sure puts a LOT of vibrato in his voice; its sad really, but that wont make it sound better 2/5 ---> 2,6

Not my favorite Elvis album.

Suspicious Minds is the highlight and stands out by a country mile. Wanted to rate this higher but there isn't enough at that level to justify a higher score. 3/5.

Mouais

Wonderful. His lyrics and voice strike a chord

Pretty solid Elvis album. Actually, it's probably the only Elvis album on this list that I enjoyed all the way through. 3.25 / 5 stars

Suspicious minds is a jam. In the ghetto....lol

Gentle on my mind is incredible, no matter who is singing. Just a great blues record

Closer was a banger. Just needed a better song selection.

I guess it’s ok. Never was much of an Elvis guy, and I didn’t recognize any of these songs. Sounded more like a lounge singer or a crooner. 2.5⭐️ rounding up

Can't really see myself giving Elvis two stars. Funny side note: Wikipedia's first genre listed for this album is "rock." Other "rock" albums released in 1969: "Led Zeppelin", "Kick Out the Jams", "Tommy", "The Stooges", "Abbey Road", "In the Court of the Crimson King", "Led Zeppelin II", "Let it Bleed", and "The Allman Brothers Band".

It's good, not his best, good length album 50 mins, perfect listening time. You defo wouldn't recommend this to someone who hadn't heard Elvis before. Album does pick up after 'In the Ghetto' and end well with some legend songs. It's a middle of the road Elvis album, but enjoyed it.

Late Elvis is still Elvis, but he’s a shadow of peak Elvis.

I'm not going to pretend that there aren't good songs on this release from Presley, it's better than a lot of the movie tie-in albums, but with 40+ albums released most songs on this as a whole are just fine or forgettable. Elvis is a little too country for me.

If you forget that is Elvis you might end up enjoying this album, or part of it as it is too mellow for my taste, too many ballads. The 3 last songs are totally forgettable.

It’s elvis.

I wasn’t psyched to be getting an Interview Elvis album, especially one from so late in his career but I was pleasantly surprised by track one. Unfortunately, it was mostly downhill from there until In the Ghetto and Suspicious Minds. Overall I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it.

White people stuff: Stax horns without the groove, although Suspicious Minds is a great song. Less said about In The Ghetto, the better.

cool elvis

Woah momma, pretty standard but Suspicious Minds hits different

The version of Elvis can get kind of boring. Prefer the early work, but there's a couple great songs in here. 3.5/5

Never really listend to much Elvis outside of the radio hits and found myself enjoying this more than I thought I would. There were a few tracks that I didn't really gel with especially the ballads, but some others (Kentucky Rain, Suspicious Minds) I thought were great. Musically its incredible, but probably wouldn't return to listen too often.

It is ok. Not the best Elvis.

I love Elvis but this was so flat and just had no energy… best track was suspicious minds

Very good. Elvis in his element. Suspicious minds is a fave

What’s not to like a lot elvis, good tracks what a voice solid if not quite up to the early 50s

No was a huge Elvis fan… don’t like the country/rockabillie thing at all. But this album sounds more main stream to me than most of his earlier stuff… pretty good!

It's alright, not a lot of these songs are sticking with me

A slightly later Elvis, more depth to the songs than purely blues rip offs. Recording quality is excellent particularly on the soul tracks. A couple of hits at the end as well

Elvis at his best

It’s a very gentle, delicate record but not one that’s going to ever get me too worked up. I prefer Elvis when he is getting really weird and wild on the mic, whereas here he is crooning and delivering something more thoughtful and touching. I can see why he was a sensation, but I do find it difficult to replicate that experience as a modern day listener.

This is the Elvis record i’ll keep, pretty enjoyable, minus some points for not writing it, low 3

He's got a great voice, and the music is not bad, it just doesn't really do it for me

Honestly, not my favorite Elvis Presley album.

A very melancholy live album from The King. It really accentuates what an amazing voice he had. Favorite track: After Loving You

High quality schmaltz, but too much.

i mean its fine

It's Elvis. I always preferred younger Elvis, but it's still just fine. Not a lot of standouts, but Power Of My Love has a good feel to it, and it's hard not to feel something when listening to In The Ghetto.

I have always thought that I must have been born in the wrong year to really appreciate Elvis. He always felt cheesy to me. Wearin' that Loved-On Look surprised me! It's a real bop. The rest of the album--mostly felt cheesy.

100% Elvis, doesn't get any more Elvis than Elvis.

Ist halt Elvis

A good listen-I’m moving on was a surprise . If I found this in a garage sale it would be a good weekend listen

I mean it's alright

Consistently Elvis.

Starts good (Wearin That Loved On Look), ends good (In The Ghetto). Plus Suspicious Minds is in the bonus tracks. In between it veers towards the club singer (particularly I'll Hold You In My Heart) and occasionally the more excruciating bits of the 68 TV special. Not my bag, but it's alright.

I went through a bit of an Elvis-adjacent hyperfixation last summer, probably because I really like the actress Riley Keough, who is his granddaughter. I watched the movie “Priscilla” and read the book “Elvis and Me”. Both were about his first/ex-wife Priscilla Presley, who he essentially groomed from a teenager and kinda held captive at Graceland while they were in a relationship. This album came out at the same time around the same time when Priscilla and Elvis’ daughter was a baby. Anyway, you can see why Elvis was a lauded entertainer of that era, but knowing his social history makes you think about his music with a certain lens, and the impacts his musical career and choices as an adult had on his music and the people in his life. I also knew the song “In the Ghetto” from New Girl, in the episode where they hire an Elvis impersonator for Nick’s dad’s funeral and then the impersonator gets drunk and can’t perform. Jess ends up dressing up as Elvis and performing a couple of Elvis songs, including “In the Ghetto”. Anyway, it’s a great episode IMO.

I mean, it's Elvis. He's obviously a very talented singer and was ahead of his time. I enjoyed the album, but it didn't blow my mind. I think Elvis shone as a live performer so recordings don't convey his charm as much. Still a 7.5/10 for me. I have a special appreciation for 'In the Ghetto' because of that one scene in New Girl.

We had a kid in high school that was quite the Elvis impersonator. He would always perform a few songs at talent shows or whatever they were called. Basically he introduced me to Elvis. I didn’t really appreciate it at the time and just thought it was funny how much this kid loved Elvis. But Elvis is one of the greats for a reason. His ability to push entertainment to places it had never been, and move his hips in a way that entranced so many people is impressive. The fact that early video recordings of Elvis’s music purposefully only recorded above the waist is hilarious to reflect on. I wonder if we will ever see a modern day equivalent of how Elvis revolutionized music. I guess twerking is maybe the modern day equivalent of dance moves breaking the status quo.

I think this was the first Elvis album I've listened to in full. It a solid album. But, I was expecting some more catchy tunes. Still a really good album, tho

I think Elvis in memphis is a solid album, some great songs burried in there. Lots I will probably not go searching for again :[, no hate though hes got some great tunes, suspicious minds goes off. Also bonus points for being Elvis... like cmon hes like theeee classic music guy. The hair? Iconic. The outfit, im sure you can picture it. Dudes a fucking legend. 6.5/10

Just fine. Guy can sing.

Quite pleasing to the ears I listned through the whole 49 mn. It clearly aged though and when you 're not thinking your watching the Dukes of hazard, you sometimes could help with a quicker tempo.

What a voice! You recognise the singer immediately, the King. That's the true strength of great singers. This is clearly not the best Elvis we know, very rocky and dynamic, but kind of a more mature and slower version like a crooner. Elvis can be tired at that time... he was issuing a studio album every 6 months! This album sounds a bit old, but it has aged pretty well.

When I was younger, I wanted to keep my head clear of any kind of pop, whether from the 50s or later. I didn’t succeed but it made me scrupulously avoid Elvis. I kind of picture truck cabs and wolf-print T-shirts when hearing songs from the man. This album, though, is quite nice. The rock n’roll vibrato feels less unbearable, the pop carries a strong identity, and it adds a surprisingly good vibe to the daily commute. Except for few tunes (including the single track), I can handle the album quite well. Still, those sudden mental flashes of Joe Dassin’s perm, Johnny’s glittering stage costumes, or ridiculous lookalikes keep me from giving it that extra star.

Oook. Katerikoli album od Elvisa še nikol nism poslušala; moje znanje je osnovno. K ošvrknem seznam komadov, ki me čakajo, poznam samo enega. Kul prvi komad. ("Wearin' That Loved On Look") Pač, fino, glas ma itak še hud kle, ampak zaenkrat mi ne izstopa nič. Ok, en komad ma zj mal bl country vibe ("I'm Movin' On"), ta mi je kul. "Power of My Love" je najs, bluesovski in, če prav slišim, mal naughty? Ok, Elvis. Meh, it was fine.

Not really a massive elvis fan

I think I actually get it in regards to Elvis after listening but I can still do without the crooning ballads.

A couple of classics lift this album. Some mediocre songs drag it down. A legend.

Not bad! Lots of variety between the tracks. His voice is definitely not as strong as his younger years, and you can feel the shark-jump coming soon.

This is a whole vibe. Never listened to a full Elvis album before and I enjoyed this trip. Something about the arrangements and production feels like it was recorded last week. Except for that one song y'know. Elvis can SANG y'all. Any Day Now is a great song. Then it's followed by In the Ghetto and I had a good chuckle. The way he sings the word 'ghetto' is just ludicrous. Stop having babies in the ghetto you guys! They're going to turn into hardened criminals. Suspicious Minds a classic. Elvis's vocals really make this one feel real and immediate. And this production is top notch.

Ei tää nyt ihan niin huono ollut kun pelkäsin 3/5

Kyllähän Elvis laulaa osaasi. 3.5/5

Nice to come across Elvis finally in this list! I appreciate the cultural significance but cringe a bit on the constant cry-style singing. Anyway great to listen to, it is a timeless sound

Enjoyed the vibe of the album but wish there was just 1 or 2 more hits to push it to a 4 for me

*Danny DeVito Oh my God I Get It* This was really good. Up to True Love Travels on a Gravel Road it's no skips, falls off after that, hence the three stars, but really good in the first half and left me with a better Elvis appreciation.

Would lean towards a 3 for now - the backing performances are great and there are a few fantastic tracks here, the quality of the tracks is a bit inconsistent but tonally it actually works quite well as an album.

Schöne Lieder, super Stimme. Texte bisschen kitschig.

I realize I've never gone out of my way to listen to Elvis. He's fine I guess.

The crooning style isn't my thing, I like the country gospel more. An extra star for Suspicious Minds!

Okay I enjoyed this much more than I thought. Loved it most when it was white-washed soul/country skronks as opposed to Elvis-y ballads. As a white boy bassist who's parts occasionally cosplay as funk lines, I clocked this bassist as a gringo 30 seconds in.

Elvis sad :( If you look at the original track listing, this album as is is a bit humdrum. It's not bad, it's melancholic and reserved. It seems like they bumped up the tracks over time to make it more commercial, but for me this kinda represents what would really happen if you bought Elvis back "for one more album" - he's knackered and played out, let him rest.

Actually a good listen that doesn't sound like stereotypical Elvis.

Kinda boring but not terrible

This was a nice album to have on in the background. There weren't many songs that drew me in, but it was a nice passive listen. I loved the general country vibe the entire time. It's very different from the music Elvis is the most famous for, but not in a bad way. They did bury "Suspicious Minds" all the way at the end. That is the only song I knew, and I like it. 6/10

Never listened to an album by “The King,” before. He’s obviously a talented singer & musician— no complaints musically. The songs are dated (the production choices, choruses and strings are clearly of an era — although laying R&R over it was probably novel) and sometimes incredibly cringey (The Ghetto, yikes). But it’s pretty clear that his heart is in the right place. The songs strike me as though they were written by Forest Gump — simple, simplistic, naive, but not coming from a bad place. Given that he’s a white man from the 1940s-1950s deep south, Elvis might even be considered progressive (w/r/t the culture that produced him). This is interesting, influential, entertaining (if you can not listen to some of the lyrics). and worth a listen, for historical purposes if nothing else. A three.

Elvis in his Taylor Swift era

I'm guessing this album is only included because it has In The Ghetto and Suspicious Minds on it. There was maybe one or two other decent ones i'd heard of before but mostly average fare otherwise. Still, Elvis has a great voice.

Prvi put slušam nešto Elvisa da nije obrada ili original te obrade. Ništa mi ne smeta osim što je svaka pjesma ista. Također, ne mislim da je izmislio muziku ili nešto tako hiperbolično što mu se uvijek pripisuje.

Not bad. Better at showing off his voice than other albums. 3/5

Oh boy, are we REALLY getting old when we start liking the big King?

All of the songs blend. Elvis has incredible performances, and the songs are good. However, they are all 2 minutes long, and there is no evolution within each song. Beyond that, the album itself has little uniqueness, with each song sounding vaguely the same. There are some standout performances, but nothing incredible. I can see why Elvis was such a powerful radio force at the time, but I also see why he has little in terms of legacy.

Suspicious Minds bangs. The rest is alright. I'm sure if I was alive in the 50s I would have popped my pussy for this shit like everyone else (so to speak)

I believe this is the first Elvis album on the list - how many more will there be? The original release of this album had twelve tracks, all songs written by other singers/songwriters. By that time (1969) Elvis had gone through his rock and roll phase and his movie phase, and this seems to be his country western phase. Unfortunately most of the songs here sounded better as done by the original or other artists (e.g., Only The Strong Survive by Jerry Butler, Any Day Now by Chuck Jackson, Gentle on My Mind by Glen Campbell). Elvis sounds ok, but just because it’s an Elvis album doesn’t necessarily translate to a five star rating. In the Ghetto is the best song on the original release, but the re-release has three tracks that are better than the ones on the original release (Mama/Roses, Suspicious, Kentucky).

I didn't get a lot of mileage out of most the songs on this one (maybe "In the Ghetto"). Expand out to the 2000 edition bonus tracks and you at least get "Suspicious Minds" (great) and "Don't Cry Daddy" (*not* great, but memorably tone-deaf - sort of like, "let's go pick out a new mommy; that will cheer you up daddy"). I'm glad Wikipedia had an explanation for the weird volume dip on "Suspicious Minds."

A bit slower paced than than I was expecting but everything subbed great.

Genuinely really like Elvis. There was a few standout tracks, but that was 3 days ago and I can't remember what they were

Big Daddy Presley has a far better vocal range than I had previously given him credit for. But there’s only so much vibrato this gal can handle.

Важко оцінювати таку персону як Елвіс. З одного боку я ніколи не був прямо прихильником його музики, з іншого - рівень харизми просто захмарний. Тому поставлю 3 загалом.

Was a solid album, not sure I'd listen but was good to appreciate origins

A good listen, some good songs, some background music. I like the genre and feel overall do 3 stars.

A lot of really good jams on here (Suspicious Minds!). Solid.

I've never been a big Elvis fan and I don't think I've ever listened to an entire Elvis album, but he still had some charisma when he recorded this. When he starts singing you can't help but listen. I definitely prefer "early" Elvis over the lounge act you hear on this album, but overall this is not bad.

3 of 5 He is the King but I’ve always been more of a Beatles man. Some of the classics are on this album and some other decent ones. It’s ok!

Honestly I was hoping for more rock & roll but the album was pretty subdued.

I guess I like older Elvis enough!

This was a nice listen and he had quite the voice but how high can you rate something that wasn't ever written by him? watch me give 5 stars to beyonce.

Dude could sing tbf

Very good, love Elvis.

I'm not hugely connected to Elvis. To me, this album sounds good, he's an excellent performer but I don't know if there's anything that really grabe me. "In the Ghetto" is a standout track.

Love "Loved on look" but the Sadies did it better...

Not the kings king album, king.

I enjoy some Elvis songs. These are not among them.

I'll never be a huge Elvis fan. This one has some good tunes on it.

First 2 tracks were my favorite

I'm not going to try to write a review of an Elvis album, I'm just not enough of a fan to be able to tell how this album fits into his discography and I don't care to be. All that said, I think I finally started to get Elvis on my several listens to this pick Am I going to add Elvis to my regular listens? Probably not. Can I appreciate the blend of numerous different genres, while also staying true to his style? Absolutely. I enjoyed the listen and prompts to learn a little more about the Elvis phenomenon.

To me, elvis will always just be a attractive guy with a great singing voice at a time where I suppose that was in rare demand. That being said, if you told me I had to listen to an elvis record.I suppose this would be the one. Also worth noting out of a thousand and one albums with a few elvis presley and many elvis costello I got them back to back

Just fine, didn’t favorite any particular song

Nota: 2.7

Schmaltzy and average

In The Ghetto and Suspicious Minds are obviously stone cold classics (though the live Las Vegas version of the latter is better) But there’s a lot of schmaltz in the rest

This is OK. The man could certainly sing. But although I recognise some of the tunes, I wouldn't go back to listen to them again.

Some good tracks here for sure. I've actually never been a huge fan of "In the Ghetto", but it's really more of a societal anthem than a crowd-pleaser. I guess several greats (like "Suspicious Minds") were actually not on the original release, but added as bonus tracks on a later reissue.

Other than Suspicious Minds and In the Ghetto, this is just standard Elvis country music filler. He's going through the motions with a talented backing band. The slurring Vegas barfly crooner Elvis is who we get here. 2.5⭐️

Me decepcionó Elvis

It was definitely Elvis

It's fine but really nothing special. Just an Elvis country album. Nice production for the 60s though.

Heard of him, obviously, and he sounds like what I thought he sounded like. It was okay, but I wouldn't relisten.

I really haven't listened to much Elvis, beyond the biggest hits that everyone knows. It was fine. I love a good harmonica.

First listen

Not his best album, clearly this lacks some youth energy. Anyway it has a couple of fun songs.

Honestly quite nice. There's a strange air to it, particularly from 'In the Ghetto' as well as just thr album title but it's probably well meaning? Lovely album to drift out to

The album is fine, but I don't think we needed 3 Elvis Presley albums.

As always I listened to the original tracklist, which means no 'Suspicious Minds'. It's...a perfectly serviceable late-Elvis record. Some good songs, some clunkers. I just don't think he was an album man.

I wasn’t feeling this one until in the ghetto. Needs a little ‘never been to Spain’ lol

I've heard this one before but this is the first time my brain kinda linked it to stuff like Johnny Rivers' output at the time. It's not all the songs of course but you can't say something like "Poor Side of Town" didn't have an influence on some of the slower tracks. Anyway, this is the bridge between "Young" Elvis and "Fat" Elvis. A record that had to be made.. Elvis aging with his original fans. Being familiar with the 1968 "Comeback" Special, it's like that was a goodbye to being young and this is the embrace of middle age. Other thoughts: From Elvis In Memphis came out 15 years after his first hit, That's Alright Mama. Cutting edge to music for your parents in 15 years, imagine if we held current artists to that standard now? Funny looking at the cover, and seeing the Jailhouse Rock backdrop. This is real far from being in the county jail with the warden!!!

Presley had a tremendous voice which almost sounds like a parody of itself, listening to it now. The lyrics are quaint and outdated, but may have been seen as meaningful at the time. Just the same, it adds to the caricature of the whole thing. “Suspicious Minds” is great, but I can live without the rest.

The fact that “Suspicious Eyes” did not make the album shows that they didn’t know what they were looking for. Most of the songs lack any conviction from Elvis. This might be why “In the Ghetto” is the standout.

It's kind of fun, but I didn't want to listen to more when it was over.

Most people today don't understand that nearly all the tracks on this album were previously published by other artists. One exception is, of course, in the Ghetto. Suspicious Minds wasn't part of the original recording, so that doesn't count. In the end, we have a compilation of covers that are not bad, but nothing exceptional.

• i dont know how to feel about it • it's a nice background noise album for a cold winter day

Elvis still is not my favorite artist. Far from it, but there were definitely some good tracks on this album.

Okay, I'm starting to get a ton of repeat artists again. I got 6 in a row, then a 4 day break of repeats, and now I'm getting 3 in a row! What's happening? Anyways, let's talk about Elvis again! Obviously, I don't need to introduce Elvis Presley, but I already talked a bit about him and his cultural impact in my review for his self-titled debut. To sum it up, I don't think it's 100% fair to criticize him for not writing his own songs since he helped promote black music styles to a wider, whiter audience out of love and respect for the music and culture. Now, let's talk about the album! From Elvis in Memphis was released in 1969, long after Elvis had reigned as the King of Rock and Roll in the 50s. This was, in some ways, a comeback album for him. It's pretty good! This album takes a much more soulful approach to music, which I kind of like. Elvis's voice puts on some good emotion for these sorts of songs. The songs are good, by the way. Again, he didn't write them, but I commend the man for even deciding to sing this songs at all. You listen to a song like "In the Ghetto" and you're like, "Damn. That's an emotional story." It's stuff like that that really demonstrates the respect the Elvis clearly had for African-American music and culture. Other than songs like that though, the lyrics are a tad repetitive. Speaking of music, the instrumentation is great. This album's overall feel is still that of an older album, but in a way that's more nostalgic than dated. The backing instrumentals are pretty great. Overall, I'd say that this album is a bit better than Elvis's first album. I think that this sort of album was worth making for an artist like him. Good job! Solid 3/5.

Bro was a creep. But cool songs I guess.

Reminded me of music with Mom Turner or Poppi. Definitely heard traces of the blues and can see how his voice was fawned over by a generation.

way better than the other elvis album i was given.

Listens: 1.5 Standout tracks: Only The Strong Survive, Long Black Limousine, In The Ghetto Not a fan of country music, generally but I think I can give the King of rock and roll a break. He's a great singer and he's got both excellent backing vocals (very gospel-like) and a great band (The Memphis Boys) providing additional instrumentation. Im sure I've heard at least one Elvis song before, but scrolling through the top tracks on YTM I don't see any that I might be familiar with. I would have expected to see Hound Dog on the top songs, but nope. Anyways, I've definitely never listened to a whole album before.

I prefer late Elvis. Suspicious Minds is one of my favourite songs of his. Seeing some weird reviews about his voice - man Only The Strong Survive show hes still an incredible singer at this point. The other thing I like is the benefit of better production beings this album. Not sure he does Gentle on My Mind as well as Glen Campbell tho ;)

Good album, some iconic songs.

Not my thing

Some good songs, but some were slower and more boring.

Not quite my cup of tea, but amazing for what it is! The hype makes sense.

Too schmaltzy for me but it's got Suspicious Minds on it, which redeems it.

Good soulful musicianship from the backing band but many of the songs are bit schlocky. This is later, more commercialized and less energetic Elvis; few of these songs rise to the level of Suspicious Minds.

I liked this way more than I thought I would

I prefer the rocking Elvis to the crooning version that was on this album. Suspicious Minds one of my favorite Elvis songs.
