Own this one. Motorhead is always fun to listen to.

Hawkwind is sick and Lemmy not being part of it so he could make Motorhead is the best. Ace of Spades is perfect straight forward metal. It just hits nonstop fury and rocks. Motorhead is as much about energy as sound so a love album is a great call. Don't remember how much Motorhead is on the list but this is a good representation

Lemmy would not have given the slightest shit what I think of this album. Nonetheless, five stars. Minus one star for Jailbait because I'm a dad. Four stars. Many years ago, I was at the grocery store and I nearly ran into some kid who was with their mom. I said, "whoopsie, excuse me!" And in that moment, I just really wished that I could have been someone else. And I imagined that if Lemmy almost ran into some kid at the store, he wouldn't have said, "whoopsie!". He would have looked at the kid and just snarled. And the kid would have run away crying. And sometimes I just wish I could be that guy. At least for a little while. I think about this particular scenario more often than I would like to admit. Most humans would not survive spending a week as Lemmy in the 80s, or any other decade.

It doesn't really get more balls-out than this. Lemmy was a legend, though I always found Motörhead to be a bit one-note. That said, it's a fun note. Related, this band has nothing to say (other than maybe Viv Savage's immortal "Have a good time...all the time"), but no one was expecting that from Lemmy. This doesn't pretend to be anything else than what it is, and live was undoubtedly the best way to experience Motörhead.

It’s pretty simple, really…either you like good music or you don’t.

First, if somebody is listening to the 2h (or 4h) version, I would like to introduce them to the original 44m version of this album. At under 45 minutes, this album had solid momentum the whole way.

It was just a few days ago that I got Ace Of Spades. Great selection of songs from their vast array of bangers and they sound great live, but I just don’t do live albums. I didn’t listen to it all. Quality isn’t great, I would just rather listen to a collection or playlist of the studio recordings. I can’t give a 5 for that reason, but I can’t go lower than 4 ‘cos it’s Motorhead.

God, I wish I'd seen Motorhead live

What do you want? Loud noises? Hard rock? I mean this is like the essence of that. Love the live album too. These guys are such fucking animals. I say this a lot, but not my favorite type of music but this one got me into it. Motorhead knows how to fucking rock. It's not like the craziest, most diverse set of songs, but these guys can play well and it's straight fun.

ppl who can tell motorhead songs apart are Living The Dream. its a level of attentiveness to the outside world i wish i had. thankfully it is not a requirement to enjoy their music, esp in this live setting where they just constantly sound like the coolest band to ever play music....its amazing how the novelty doesnt wear off! and every time i do pick up a line or melody, it seems pretty awesome,,,again , more power to the legends who can tell motorhead songs apart. extremely good and sweaty music. and maybe the most ive ever felt the legend of lemmy specifically....the crowd is just eating out of his hand and it seems like he's some kind of big imposing monster alien stomping around the stage

Overkill is better but for a live album this is a face melter :)

"We are Motörhead and we play rock 'n' roll." What a ride. 40 minutes flies by so quickly. Loads of people say this about loads of different bands and most of the time it isn't true, but the tracks on this live album genuinely sound better than the studio versions. Faster. Louder. Heavier. 'Overkill' sounds particularly fantastic. For me it's one of the greatest rock songs of all time just made even better by the way they play it. It makes you want to get up and move, as Lemmy perfectly sings: "On your feet you feel the beat, it goes straight to your spine / Shake your head, you must be dead if it don't make you fly. Know your body's made to move you feel it in your guts / Rock and roll ain't worth the name if it don't make you strut." If you want 40 minutes of your head being blown clean off by Lemmy's bass and iconic voice and gut busting drums then this is the album for you. I thought it would be an easy 5, but the song selection I don't particularly think is their strongest material. So purely for that, I'll subtract a star. Make no mistake though, this is a band at the peak of their powers and playing like their lives depended on it.

linear but fun

Motörhead live in England, good stuff

Never even heard of this band, only metal I ever listened to was Iron Maiden. Didn’t expect any more or less, quite repetitive I wouldn’t call it noise, I think more than anything it’s not my thing. I do hope however, to listen to more of this artist I think they could do a lot better. 6.5/10.

This live recording is absolutely breakneck. I can't imagine them being more at the height of their abilities. Just relentlessly pounding. Laying the foundation for thrash. It's honestly an overwhelming thing to listen to and imagine seeing it live in 1980 and 1981. What a band.

That drummer gets a serious workout, two hours of fast-paced beats like this?!

You really had to be there, I think. Epic lighting rig.

These gigs were probably fun to attend in person. Not so much to just listen to.

Not my favorite.

I absolutely LOVE Motorhead. Live albums have no place on this list unless it's the only recording of an artist.

Hey Motorhead, play that one that goes *hums the riff to Ace of Spades* Motorhead: yeah, you're gonna have to narrow it down

Well the only thing of note from this listen is that I answered the never-before-asked question of where one might not fall asleep first --- Hammersmith or Brooklyn. I felt angry, uptight, and confused listening to this. Literally could not tell where one song ended and another began. I so dislike this band and this sound even more than I dislike their misuse of the umlaut. I most certainly do not need to listen to this music before I die.

Some of the greatest music I've ever listened to in my damn life. Growing up, my ears picked up some of their songs over the years. Ace of Spades, most prominently, of course. When I pressed play, it started with that and I thought huh, it starts at the peak of the energy. It'll settle down eventually, have some fluctuations, whatever. I was damn near in cardiac arrest for almost two hours. Unbelievable. 6/5. 6/5

Pure energy and powerful riffs. I sure do like Motorhead a lot more when they are not singing about jailbait. The live album really lets the band shine showing a side of metal that is all gas no brakes. Favorite Track - Ace of Spades Least Favorite Track - Capricorn ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Who would win in a fight? Lemmy or God? Trick question. Lemmy IS God.

Only knew Ace of Spades going in, but this whole thing is great. Amazing power that helps convert the fact that there's probably not huge variety in the songs. But even so, very influential and still able to stand up in its own right

Oh yeah that's the good shit! Pedal to the metal balls out take no prisoners cause it'll set you free baby!

You know why they're called speed metal right?

Generally not a live album guy, but if I want one this is one of the few I’ll reach for.

Рёв, грохот и скрежет.

A five star balls out rocknroll/punk/metal live album. Very like AC/DC in that this is a band that has a style and they stick to it. Hard to think of a hit or album that does not sound like any of the others but i never get bored listening to them. And this live performance is a great showcase why. You’ve got the same straight up blues/rocknroll base of AC/DC but delivered a bit more frenetically. The sensibulity is your straight 50’s 60’s rock and normally the drums and bass would align but here you’ve got a drummer playing more of a punk hardcore precursor style with a dose of heavy metal swagger and a bass player strumming away at power chords on the bass which created a kind of motorbike revving type drone over the song, then a guitar playing fast blues infused rock often with lots of distirtion. There is a shrt path from Jerry Lee Lewis through this band to countless metal, punk, grunge, rock bands. They may not have directly birthed thes e and more genres but they definitely spread their seed and thw seed of their roadies around.

One of the greatest rock and roll bands live, what's there not to love? Motorhead is firing on all cylinders, especially on Metropolis. If you like hard rock and metal, you'll love this album.

A powerful blast of energy, raw and pure Motörhead! There are no words to describe it's strenght sound!

I'll search for detailed information about this classic Motörhead live album to provide you with a comprehensive review. Based on my research, here is an in-depth review of **No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith** by Motörhead, the legendary live album that captured the band at the absolute peak of their powers. --- ## Overview & Historical Context Released on **June 27, 1981**, *No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith* became Motörhead's first and only UK No. 1 album—a remarkable achievement for a live record by a band that prided itself on being "everything louder than everything else" . Despite the title's reference to London's Hammersmith Odeon, the album was actually recorded during three consecutive nights in late March 1981: primarily at **Newcastle City Hall** (March 29-30), with one track from **Leeds Queen's Hall** (March 28) and another from an unstated 1980 location . This was the classic lineup—**Lemmy Kilmister** (bass/vocals), **"Fast" Eddie Clarke** (guitar), and **Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor** (drums)—at the height of their powers, touring behind the success of *Ace of Spades* and the *St. Valentine's Day Massacre* EP with Girlschool . --- ## Music & Performance ### The Sound This album is pure, unfiltered Motörhead: a **speed-fueled assault** that blurs the lines between heavy metal, punk rock, and hard rock. The production captures the band's infamous live intensity with remarkable clarity. As one reviewer noted, the opening of "Ace of Spades" "fairly ripped out of the speakers, Lemmy's thunderous Rickenbacker opening like a machine gun, the massive roar of the crowd as Motörhead instantly accelerated to hyperspace" . The **trio format** creates a deceptively full sound. Lemmy's rhythm-heavy bass playing essentially functions as both bass and rhythm guitar, allowing Fast Eddie to focus on blistering leads. Philthy's **double-kick drumming** was revolutionary for its time and would prove massively influential on the emerging thrash metal scene . ### Key Tracks - **"Ace of Spades"**: The definitive version—faster, nastier, and more ferocious than the studio cut. It remains undroppable from any rock setlist . - **"Overkill"**: A five-minute epic that "never stops to rock." The helicopter-like drum intro and extended guitar workouts showcase the band's musical ambition within their raw framework . - **"Stay Clean"**: Features Lemmy's impressive bass solo and demonstrates the band's tightness . - **"The Hammer"**: Dedicated to "Little Philbert" (Phil Taylor), this is maximum intensity Motörhead with some of Philthy's most aggressive drumming . - **"Iron Horse/Born to Lose"**: A more "sentimental," mid-paced moment that breaks up the relentless speed, showing the band's dynamic range . - **"(We Are) The Road Crew"**: A tribute to their road crew that captures the band's working-class ethos and self-deprecating humor . --- ## Lyrics & Themes Lemmy's lyrical universe is on full display here: **gambling, drinking, sex, rebellion, and the rock 'n' roll lifestyle**. The words are deliberately unsophisticated—"I don't see any Deep Purple in here," Lemmy once sneered at pretentiousness—but they carry an authenticity that resonated with audiences. The themes are **working-class escapism**: "Ace of Spades" celebrates risk-taking, "No Class" embraces social outsider status, and "Motörhead" (the song) is a mission statement of speed and volume. There's no introspection, no political commentary—just **pure, hedonistic energy**. Lemmy's between-song banter is minimal but memorable, introducing songs with his characteristic gravel-voiced authority. The crowd's roar becomes almost another instrument, particularly on the anthemic choruses. --- ## Production & Recording Quality For a live album recorded on the fly in 1981, the sound is remarkably **clear and powerful**. The mix balances the three instruments effectively—you can hear Lemmy's bass distortion, Eddie's guitar harmonics, and Philthy's cymbal work distinctly. The crowd noise is present but never overwhelming, serving to enhance rather than distract from the performance. The album's brevity—**just 40 minutes** in its original form—was a deliberate choice that maintains momentum from start to finish. As one fan noted, "At under 45 minutes, this album had solid momentum the whole way" . This was punk rock economy applied to heavy metal power. --- ## Influence & Legacy *No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith* is widely regarded as **one of the greatest live albums in rock history**. Its influence extends across multiple genres: 1. **Thrash Metal**: Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax all cited Motörhead's speed and aggression as foundational. The double-kick patterns and rapid-fire riffing here directly inspired the Bay Area thrash scene. 2. **Speed Metal**: The album essentially defined the template for speed metal—fast, aggressive, but musically tight. 3. **Punk/Metal Crossover**: Motörhead proved that metalheads and punks could share common ground, influencing later crossover acts. 4. **Live Album Standards**: It set the benchmark for how a live record should capture energy without sacrificing sound quality. The album's title has passed into rock lexicon, famously referenced by the Beastie Boys on their track "No Sleep Till Brooklyn." It remains the definitive document of Motörhead's classic era . --- ## Pros & Cons ### **Pros** - **Unmatched Energy**: Captures possibly the most intense live band of their era at their absolute peak - **Perfect Track Selection**: Draws from their three best albums (*Overkill*, *Bomber*, *Ace of Spades*) with no filler - **Historical Significance**: Documents the classic lineup before internal tensions led to Fast Eddie's departure - **Brevity**: No padding, no indulgent solos—just relentless rock 'n' roll - **Sound Quality**: Excellent production for a live recording of this era - **Cultural Impact**: Influenced generations of metal and punk bands - **Accessibility**: The perfect introduction to Motörhead for newcomers ### **Cons** - **Lack of Diversity**: The songs can sound "samey" to uninitiated ears—similar tempos, similar chord structures, similar vocal delivery - **Limited Dynamics**: If you don't like the first song, you probably won't like the rest—there's little variation in mood - **Compilation Nature**: Being assembled from multiple nights rather than one continuous show removes some "live" spontaneity - **Short Runtime**: At 40 minutes, some listeners may want more (though the 2021 box set expanded this significantly) - **No Deep Cuts**: Focuses on hits rather than exploring deeper album tracks - **Controversial Material**: Songs like "Jailbait" contain lyrics that have aged poorly and may disturb modern listeners --- ## Verdict *No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith* is **essential listening** for anyone interested in heavy music. It is not a nuanced album, nor is it trying to be. It is a document of a band that understood exactly what they were: "We are Motörhead and we play rock 'n' roll." The album succeeds because it makes no apologies. It doesn't try to be clever or artistic—it simply captures three musicians playing with **total conviction and maximum volume**. Forty years later, it remains the gold standard for live heavy rock albums. **Rating**: 9/10 (Classic, with minor deductions for lack of diversity) --- *RIP Lemmy (1945-2015), Fast Eddie (1950-2018), and Philthy (1954-2015)*

Lemmy fue, es y será uno de los más grande iconos del Heavy Metal, un crack en todo sentido.

God damn is this killer! The band is tight and full of energy. I might honestly like this better than "Ace of Spades". The songs may sound the same but it's a great song so who cares

Just absolute mastery in rock n' roll.

LOUD AND HEAVY!

Saw this tour at the Glasgow Apollo. Loud.

brilliant live album, one of the best I've heard

LEMMY!!!!

One of the greatest live bands ever at the peak of their powers and tight as fuck, ripping through some powerful, aggressive and melodically catchy tracks. Several classics here: "Ace of Spades," "Stay Clean," "No Class," "Overkill" "(We Are) The Road Crew," "Bomber," "Motorhead" this serves as a great compilation for the band in the format they deserved to be heard in. One of the best hard rock albums of all time, full stop.

Something that I've never realized is how tight they are

"No Sleep 'til Hammersmith" is the first live album by English rock band Motörhead. Heavy metal and hard rock are the Wiki-listed genres. The album has 11 songs from their first four albums recorded primarily in Newcastle. The bandmembers, considered their "classic" line-up, consisted of Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister (lead vocals, bass), "Fast" Eddie Clarke (guitar, backing vocals) and Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor (drums). The album reached the top of the UK Album Charts and is considered one of the best live metal albums of all time. The album opens fast and hard with their classic "Ace of Spades." Driving, relentless...a defining moment for thrash metal sounding just fine here. Lemmy's scratchy voice. Ace guitar stuff from Clarke. Why live forever? A drum roll opens the slower "Metropolis." A darker, heavier edge to the guitar. Some wah-wah effects. More in the hard rock area contrasted with thrashy "Ace of Spades." Right up there with "Ace of Spades" in my Motörhead catalog is "Overkill." And the band does not disappoint. Explosive guitar and pounding drums. The exhilarating feeling of listening to live music. A great deeper cut is "(We Are) The Road Crew." A song for their road crew and the band sounds inspired and impassioned. A distorted bass begins the closer, the self-titled "Motörhead," a song from their debut. Ferocious co-lead vocals. A punk-thrash fusion. They'll be Motörhead tonight. Rocket ship and siren sounds appropriately end the the album. The band is tight. The music is loud and fast. Lemmy's voice is the same, screaming and scratchy as ever. They roar relentlessly through their early catalog of thrash metal, hard rock and punk songs. Live hard, drive motorcycles, enjoy drugs and freedom, hate fake people and celebrate the road crew. Even the one song, "Capricorn," that Lemmy says is slow, rocks. A classic live album in every respect.

I don't know what the lists rules are for when live albums get used. I don't really care in this case, Motorhead is the real deal. Live or studio they were just real rock n roll. There's just nothing like it. Must hear before death, during death, after death

🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

As someone who comes to metal with a noise pop background, I'm always expecting there to be *noise* to it. Unfortunately for me, extreme metal tends to prioritize speed and aggression and they'll have distorted guitars, but they're never really noisy like someone like the Jesus and Mary Chain or Medicine or what have you (maybe the black metal bands get there, but I don't have the time to do the research necessary to avoid listening to neo-Nazis, so that's out of the question). Fortunately for me, there's Motorhead. They've got the speed, they've got the aggression, *and* they're bringing the noise! They might not be quite the noise metal band of my dreams, but they're they closest that I've found yet, and they're just great overall!

Is this the best live album ever? Probably not, but it's certainly very, very good indeed. The band are tight, with arguably a better sound than some of their early studio recordings. There's the "every song sounds the same" issue, but it's a good song, so it's forgivable. I saw Motorhead a few times live. They were okay in a large, sitting only venue, but OMG they were SO good in a smaller standing (moshing) only venue. I have a fond memory of them playing "Killed By Death" and one of my friend's shoes fell off. We had to form a circle around him while he retrieved it and tried to get it back on, as the crowd were going crazy. Good times. Five stars.

“This one is a slow one, so we should get mellowed out” (proceeds to play at 116 bpm) The only Motörhead I knew before this was “Ace of Spades,” but I feel like that set my expectations appropriately. As far as I could tell there were maybe up to three chords played during this entire performance, and it’s hard to differentiate tracks. But within the narrowest of palettes, this band wins you over with sheer energy and unstoppable momentum. It’s interesting for a band to become known primarily through a live album, but in an age where almost any sound lies at our fingertips, that liveliness continues to give it an aura of authenticity, making clear that this explosion of sound is not simply a studio concoction. There’s never a dull moment in what I can only describe as an Olympic feat. Bonus points for naming a band after a song.

>>>> the Beatles

No. 55 Absolutly insane music. Pioneere of the genere of heavy metal. Intense, rapid and raw.

This was fantastic. Ordering on vinyl for sure

That's not singing. That's just yelling.

Sicke Banger

Brilliant

I would put this up there with the great live rock albums - Alive!, Strangers In The Night, Unleashed In The East… Raging Motörhead at their finest.

Incredible energy. My ears are bleeding. Just as Lemmy intended.

This album can best be summed up by how they introduce We Are The Road Crew. "And now, the loudest voice of any road crew - G R!" "Come on then Newcastle, let's hear it for the road crew! UUUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Loud, dirty, funny, self aware and confident, this stone-cold classic live album goes swinging, riffing and smashing its way through a set's worth of one of rock and roll's greatest bands at their absolute peak. Favourite tracks: Overkill, Iron Horse, Bomber, Road Crew, Metropolis

The irony of this album being named No Sleep 'til Hammersmith is that the supposed Hammersmith Odeon concert wasn't even documented; hell, it was never on the itinerary. Nevertheless, Motorhead continued to crank up the noise and supply the relentless speed on this landmark record. The best iteration of the band, playing some of their greatest hits, in a moment in time that would never be replicated again. No sleep makes demons of us all.

Büro, Heidenheim, Deutschland. Nur Banger!

Hell yeah! Nothing to add

What can you say about motorhead, or more exactly lemmy, because lemmy was motherhead and motorhead was lemmy. Of course the drummers and guitarists who passed through rock and gave life to motorhead. Motohead was the rock 'n' roll lifestyle personified and influenced heavy metal and punk music then and to this day. I usually prefer studio over live but NSTH rocks hard! On my patented -100 to +100 scale if having an angry orgasm is +70 then NSTH is an exhibitionist having one in public: +90

Brash, unapologetic, greasy, stinky, and FUCKING LOUD. 5/5 would eat for breakfast.

Ace of spades may be the best opening song for an album ever

Still an amazing live show - basically a live greatest hits album from beginning to end. At this point the band were a touring monster and super tight. Album has a breakneck pace and the original version is the perfect length leaving you satisfied excited and perhaps wanting 1 or 2 more songs.

If we are separating art from the artist, great fucking album. Jealous of whoever got to experience Ace of Spaces live tbh. Their sound, especially live, nothing like this. Fuck Lemmy though.

A great Motorhead live album

Love Motorhead, love live albums, good.

Sometime the choice of the albums on this list for me. It includes Ace Of Spades, but doesn't have Overkill and then there's live album which includes most important songs from both of these albums? Well, it's Motorhead, so I won't complain. One of the best heavy metal band in the world at their peak. Philthy's intro to Overkill sounds like WW3, Fast Eddie shreds even more than on the studio version of the songs and, well Lemmy is Lemmy. Legandary stuff. Turn it up!

Any album by Mötorhead is classic! I have been a fan for over 40 years and never get tired of their genius!! 🎸

One of the all-time greatest live albums.

I can’t think of anything more rock and roll than Motörhead, a band that I definitely wish I had been able to see live. This is fantastic, I can’t quite go full five stars so I’m going to cheat and say 4.5 rounded up to 5.

Lemmy, Phil, and Mikkey! One of my favorite bands. Hard driving power trio.

Makes me wanna snort rails of meth, in a good way.

Brilliant album for a number 1. One of my favourites of all time!

Listened to Ace of Spades

Five stars for the lead guitarist

The opening song is probably the best opener I’ve ever heard from a live album, just smacks you in the face with raw power. I actually can’t fault this, start to finish raw energy, doesn’t reinvent the wheel but I’m going to come back to this. What a man Lemmy was

Этот альбом мне попался, когда я шел сонный на работу, и нет ничего лучше чем просыпаться под ace of spades!

- [ ] Motörhead - live albums are fun when they are good like this and have great energy throughout. Like Metallica heaviness and speed with Rolling Stones rock n roll vibes. Better sounding and feeling than the a lot of the other early 80s metal we’ve had. Drums are cool on overkill. Bass tone and solo on second song are super cool. Love how Lemmy says every song is a dedication. Maybe a 4 in real life for me but 5 for this list

Hell yeah sick vibes makes me wanna drink at duffs.

Hell yes

This was great!

Big fan of live albums, particularly if they are true classic rock and roll, which this is. I found myself making the "devil's horns" at my desk.

One of the best live albums ever! Pure Rock 'n Roll!

A classic!

Motörhead as they should be: loud, dirty and energetic.

AWESOME

It's Motörhead. There's only one button down there and it's five stars.

I put this on and fought a cop

People say they only have one song, but I can happily listen to that song a dozen times in a row. My favourite discovery of this project is how much I love Motorhead.

Not available, but Motörhead!!! 👊🤘

"...trick question, Lemmy IS God." Seriously though, if you don't like Motörhead, I don't like you!

Metal masterpiece.

Die beste Heavy Metall Band zeigt auf diesem Album, warum.

idk yet

Every song sounds fairly the same, lucky thing that song is banging

Makes me want to live off speed and JD.

loved it

DEAD FROM HEAVINESS

5 plus

Great album 💿 !!!

One of the very best live albums, as Motorhead flatten their own songs from the studio versions into noisescapes even more reliant on blast beats and pure speed.

baita som

Superrrrrr

Rápido e certeiro, toda energia do Motörhead ao vivo.

Cinq étoiles, juste parce que j’ai rarement autant pris plaisir à écouter un album pour la première fois!

Motorhead!!!!! Lemmy is god. I like studio albums better but still amazing

Just great

I prefer studio albums, but a classic is a classic for a reason.

I found myself thinking of that live Jerry Lee Lewis album from a few weeks ago while listening to this Motörbeast. Feels like he would approve of this set list. Get in, loudly blast through the high energy shit the fans are there for in the first place, and get out. It’s a pretty simple recipe and yet so rarely delivered that it stands out when someone offers it up on a greasy platter like this. What’s interesting is that Apple Music has four different versions of this album, all of which add extra tracks and extend the runtime. There’s a deluxe remaster that’s 71 songs and damn near 5 hours long! I know fans are gonna fan, but come on. The original duration is part of what makes the thing shine, what makes it feel like you’re actually at the concert. It’s like a story that needs to be a movie vs. the same story being stretched to an eight season TV show. I loved this album; I don’t love it at 5 hours.

I love their power and sound! Just the recording is not good.

motorhead is an artist i've been trying to get into for a while, and i feel like this is the key to it. lemmy and the band have an incredible live sound, they sound just like they do in the studio; if not a little better. the full album was too long for me, so i just listened to the "england, 1981" songs because it's the same setlist over and over for the entire album. a 4 and a half would be a better option, but that isn't happening so it's a 5 from me

Wat een stem en wat een band, legendarisch

"It's fuckin' Mo-tör-head, alright? Fuckin' hardcore Motörhead." -Dee Snider

Tight as a snare drum - Kilmister/Clarke/Taylor era at its live peak. If you’re not a fan already this isn’t likely to change your mind, but it gives a great impression of the intensity their gigs had. If you are a fan then this is a must must-listen.

They just don't write 'em like "The Chase is Better Than the Crabs" anymore.

I'm a fan of Motorhead, I'm a fan of the energy, but the recording quality really is dogshit.

Really enjoyed this one, as I did the last Motörhead album to come up. Top tier hard rock performed well. I enjoyed a lot of disc 2, especially 'No Class'

Motorhead pionieri del trash e speed metal, e questo live è una bella sintesi dei loro lavori in studio

Great live album. Never been huge on them but I had a lot of fun listening to it.

It's grooving, nice classic feeling rock and roll.

ANOTHER motörhead album? someone on this platform sure loves this group. released only about a year after ace of spades, this right here will be their first ever live album. also yes, seems like the beastie boys got inspired by the title of this album. history lesson over, let's get to the review. it's more... motörhead. really it's very similar to the last album i heard by these guys. it's fast, it's aggressive, a whole bunch of sweaty guys just thrashing their bodies in unison as the lead singer sings and almost spits into the mic. it's a VERY good live album!! i liked it better than ace of spades. i think just the only thing preventing me from a higher rating here is personal preference.

Enjoyed this way more than I expected...

Good old fun rock and roll, Motörhead style

Trick question dickhead, Lemme IS God

Unrelentingly loud and played at a breakneck pace, this is definitely a live album that benefits from being played with the volume cranked a little too high. The tracklist functions as a Motörhead best-of, featuring most of the Overkill album (their peak if you ask me.) Most of the songs included are nearly equal to the studio versions, with the simple, no-frills renditions really translating just how damn loud this band even as a 3 piece. This is a powerful live document that proves every bit of the band's now-legendary reputation for hard living and for playing everything louder than everyone else.

This is more Motörhead than I ever listened to before. I knew Ace of Spades (of course), happy with the live version. Track after track is solid, not blowing my mind with surprising chords, but rocking hard, very full sound for a live three-piece. After a read of their bio, I'm feeling positive about Kilmister's insistence that they were always a rock and roll band, not a metal band. I don't know if he or critics said they had plenty in common with punk bands, I certainly hear energy and attitude (do or die), as well as stuff that's pretty close to thrash. In short, I like it a lot more than I expected to, it's Good, 7/10.

Kings of speed. What a mad, frenetic gig.

Quite good.

Joyous rock and roll. Lemmy sounds brilliant and the guitar line in The Hammer kills it. Glad this exists. A rogue one for kitchen dancing but maybe it’ll get thrown on in the future.

Another album that I bought on vinyl as a teenager, played it to death and loved it. I'm not much of a metalhead these days, but Motörhead were always a great live band, delivering top notch rock 'n' roll and this album is a perfect testament to their no nonsense, all guns blazing approach.

Great songs, great concert. Love when a band sounds as good live as they do on their albums.

Snakk om å gi jernet. En greatest hits plate med ekstra energi og tut og kjør.

I said yesterday that Khaled only had one flow- Motörhead made a career out of having a very defined, instantly recognizable sound, even if that meant every song sounded a bit like the last. A lot like the last, even. I would go so far even as to say that Slayer stole Motörhead’s formula: make a classic album, then just keep making that same thing over and over. As long as people keep buying it (Motörhead 25m record sales) and keep going to shows (toured until the death of Lemmy in 2015) then you’re doing something right. Ride it to the grave. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I've recently been getting more into hard rock and glam metal, so I think this came at the perfect time for me to properly enjoy it. I love a live album, so this was an especially fun one to listen too!

I have never listened to this before but it is great energy! Lemmy forever!

Live recordings really do justice to the greatness of Motörhead. Dudes will hear this and say hell yeah. It’s me, I am dudes. They pretty much have one song, but when that one song kicks so much ass it’s hard to complain.

It's fair to say Motorhead only really have one trick, but it's a trick that rocks, to be fair. For some reason I'd always assumed they'd be a bit dodgy live, maybe because Lemmy was such a piss head. They sound good though. My only issue is that the songs all kinda sound the same, but I bet it was fun to be at one of their shows

Oh fuck yes that ruled, amazing intense energy

This recording finds the band's classic lineup at the top of the game. The mixing is solid and the performance is great.

From all meat/rock records, I think this is a strong one. Classic tracks, honest playing, got to respect it.

Top 3: Ace of Spades, No Class, Overkill

Ya quisieran ser Motörhead, amachense

Great live album, like a construction site arguing with a jet engine

Very good live rock album. My only complaint is that it was a touch long, but that wasn't that big of a deal because I liked the music. I could see someone critiquing the fact that all the songs are kinda similar, but if you like that style, you're in for a feast.

superasna, w chuj dluga, nie podoba mi sie ze to live ale ok

Turns out I dig Motorhead. No t a big live album fan, but great album overall.

- I liked this - they are like a better Metallica - good live recording too - would probably listen again

If only the quality was better. If only it didn't feel like one long song. The riffs are sick, and this sounded like a fun heavy metal concert to party at back in the glorious 1980s. Favorite Track: "Ace Of Spades".

A banger

First live album on this list for me! And bloody hell, it's quite something. Undeniable power and energy and speed. For me, it eventually became relentless and a little bit samey, but still. Bloody hell.

Fast paced, most songs sound pretty much the same, still a good listen though, great energy to it

I was into this, had been craving some more metal. It sounded pretty good considering it's a live album. Ace of Spades is always a killer, Overkill was great too. Those are the songs I knew going in. The Hammer became my new favourite, it had a big energy.

Yes I like to rock. 3.5

People will say I'm rounding up solely based on the awesomeness of Ace of Spades. And they'd be correct. 3.5/5

This was a great live album! I feel like their songs really worked well live.

Really cool, makes me wanna listen to the studio version of all the songs

Craig:

It’s a great live album and one of the most deserving of its kind but I don’t think they should be on the list

A great album - captures the energy of Motorhead very nicely. From 1981, featuring many of their classic tunes - Ace Of Spades, Bomber, Motorhead, together with jet aircraft and siren noises! Nice to hear again

1981, британский хэви метал. Лайв альбом на пике популярности. Золотой состав: Лемми Килмистер, Фил Тейлор, Эдди Кларк. Треки: Ace of Spades.

I've never really been a Motörhead fan, though I appreciate them well enough. I'm also not a huge fan of live albums. I don't trust just how "live" they are and, really, I'd prefer to actually see a band live than listen to a recorded concert. Minor qualm, but it is one. Anyway, this is fast, energetic metal-ass metal record. Those guitars are just chugging and driving the whole thing forward. Lemmy's voice is Lemmy's voice, doing everything he needs it to it. It's a blast.

The punks love 'em b/c they play fast, sloppy, & rudimentary, metalheads love em' b/c, well, they look the part and their songs are good for the fine art of headbanging, but the truth is they're neither punk nor metal just as they're not the back-to-brass-tacks-rock-n-roll that Lemmy says they are. They are a hard rock band, i.e., think Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Alice Cooper, Van Halen, or AC/DC. I can't stand most hard rock, but Motörhead is an honest exception b/c they're hard but too carefree to be that other quality that often drags these talented acts into dreadful self-seriousness: heavy. Even AC/DC is too self-important. +, as far as live rock albums go, tho this is not quite at the level of Live/Dead or At Fillmore East, it's damned good.

So fun love the live albums

Who would win in a fight, Lemmy or God? Trick question! Lemmy is God.

Motörhead wrote 1 song and performed it over and over again. And. It. Is. Glorious!

Ah. It had been a minute since I’d gotten a live album. This list seems to love them. I generally do not. But… This is the rare love album where, as usual, the songs don’t sound as good - but hearing them makes me wish I was at the concert. Which is probably what a live album ought to do. Plus super fun to hear Lemmy slur through song introductions and dedications. A sharp reminder that we will always need Motörhead.

This doesn't get more badass than this

One of the best live albums of all time. Motorhead in their mighty prime!

Killer heavy metal show with high level energy!

Motörhead, No Sleep ’til Hammersmith ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Album #13. I wasn’t fully sold on parts of this while I was listening to it. I think I’m a Motörhead fan more in principle than in practice. One thing that bothered me early on was how little I could hear Lemmy in the early to mid section of the album, but that seemed to sort itself out as it went on. I’m not usually a big fan of live albums, but this absolutely does its job, because it made me desperate to see Motörhead live. RIP Lemmy. It gets four stars because when it’s good, it’s fucking blisteringly great. Proper bruising punk metal. I love Lemmy’s crowd interactions, he’s just a funny guy. His interviews and documentary prove that. I especially loved the bit where he told the crowd to shut the fuck up. It’s one dimensional, but that’s barely worth mentioning. It’s a Motörhead album. And the dimension it operates in is fucking great.

For a live album, pretty solid. Probably could’ve used an actual album from Motorhead instead…..

Rocker bra.

Cool recording. These guys sound fantastic here. The instruments were recorded marvelously, and of course Lemmy's growling vocals. Motorhead recorded live is a perfect delivery method for this band.

Motorhead at the peak of their powers. Can't say I knew a lot of the songs apart from Ace of Spades (which is a stone cold classic), but the rest is great heavy rock/metal with the unmistakeable growl of Lemmy coming through loud and clear.

Better than Coldplay

Lemmy!

Metal albums are always better when they’re the live version. Can’t help but bang your head a little while listening.

I will not include the bonus live recording of "Over the Top" in this review, even though it was on the set list for these shows. Man, it's only been two months since I got Ace of Spades, and now I get Motörhead's most notable live record? That's wild. I've heard individual tracks here and there from No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith, largely recorded from their shows at Queen's Hall in Leeds and City Hall in Newcastle during their Short Sharp Pain in the Neck tour. Putting it all together, I do consider this a damn good record, showcasing the technical prowess of Lemmy, Phil Taylor, and "Fast Eddie" Clarke at the height of their career. Blazing through hits like "Ace of Spades", "No Class", "Bomber", and "Overkill" at near note-for-note perfection with the amplified loudness of the live venues, this album is evidence of the band's sheer dedication to putting on a fun time for their fans. With that said, I have to be a bit blunt about this record, and it's a problem shared with Cheap Trick's At Budokan and The Who's Live at Leeds - the track sequencing does not line up completely with the show. Of the approximately 18 songs played at the Newcastle and Leeds shows in 1981, only 10 made it onto the final tracklist, with a recording of "Iron Horse/Born to Lose" taken from a different show a year earlier. It could be argued that these were the best performances, representative of the live shows Motörhead played at the time, and they largely stick to the order of the actual sets, except for one noticeable difference toward the end. "Overkill" was the song that typically closed out the main sets for their shows, and switching its place in the track order with "Capricorn" while doing some editing to try and make it work is a baffling choice, especially given the longevity the former has had as a live staple. From what I gather, the original intent was to have a double live album, but the band didn't have enough material to fill both sides of two vinyl records, so cuts were made. I know that the 40th-anniversary deluxe edition includes the full unaltered sets from the Leeds and Newcastle shows, but I am judging the original release, as this was the version that got all of the notoriety. As I said at the top, I do consider No Sleep 'til Hammersmith to be a damn good record, a bona fide ripping collection of loud rock 'n roll showmanship. I can't help but notice some of the editing on here, and that did hamper my immersion in the live shows ever so slightly.

This is just what I needed after a run of rubbish albums.

I was afraid to play it at the volume they probably intended, but it was some good high energy stuff

not the vibe today

Like I said last time with Motörhead. "Sounds like an album of trying to figure out one song, getting it, making it the first track then using the rest of the tries to make an album." But this time as a live album, the energy really comes across and that's what music like this is really all about. It's fun.

Again I would prefer studio album, but oh well. This is legendary and probably one of the better known live albums of Metal. Great stuff, but not close to being my favourite record of Motorhead. Probably easy 4 stars though.

Rock the way it was intended. Motorhead are not a great band, but the one thing they can do consistently is deliver driving music and that's what they do with this live album. This was great to listen to, especially as someone who is not a fan of their music. The energy is just fantastic. Loved this.

3,75/5

Not normally a fan of live LPs but this was quite good

Honestly, probably the best live album I've heard (Live at Leeds and the Johnny Cash prison albums are close). See Thin Lizzy, THIS is how you produce a live album. It's raw, noisy, chaotic, messy, and just all around fantastic. It's not produced to within an inch of it's life like Live & "Dangerous" was. And of course, it's got the classics on here. Ace of Spades is a fantastic opener, with Overkill and (We Are) The Road Kill being some of my favorites. I still struggle with the idea of putting live albums on this list (They're basically glorified greatest hits most of the time), but regardless, this is great.

• This is the first metal album I've gotten, and it's for a band I've been meaning to listen to more of. Motorhead are such an influential band and the songs I do know from them are all incredible. I'm listening to the expanded edition on Spotify, with 18 total tracks • Kicking off a live album with Ace of Spades is an inspired choice. Lemmy's bass tone is killer and his voice sounds amazing • I like the small drum break leading into the guitar solo in Metropolis • The Hammer's guitar solo is almost exactly the same as the first half of Ace of Spades', which isn't an unheard of thing but it feels weird to have the two so close together on the tracklist. • Overkill is another classic song, and that drum intro kicks in with so much energy • Motorhead (the song) is an awesome way to end the original tracklist, and the crowd chanting over the siren afterwards really sells the energy of the concert • The bonus tracks on the expanded edition are a nice edition and it's cool to have more Motorhead, but it's clear that they put the best stuff on the main album. Still though, it's cool to have more to listen to. Favourite song: Ace of Spades

I've just recently started to listen to Motorhead albums fully. these guys are just bad ass. Full force rock!

Yeah this absolutely shreds especially the bite the bullet/the chase is better than the catch closer.

This was a really good live album! I enjoy Motorhead quite a bit!

++: Ace of Spades, Metropolis, The Hammer, Overkill, (We Are) The Road Crew, Motörhead +: Stay Clean, Iron Horse/Born to Lose, Capricorn +-: No Class, Bomber 7,9/10

This really rocks

Can't complain about some live Motorhead to start off my morning. Just some great heavy metal that's all I can really say

I lump Motörhead in the same kind of group as AC/DC or Rage Against the Machine. They all write one song over and over, but it's one pretty good song, so there isn't a whole lot to complain about in that regard. You don't really listen to any of those bands expecting something the variety of something like Ween or Mr. Bungle (Side note, I'm very upset that neither of them made it onto the 1001 list). Anyways, I've found that my taste in metal is 50% stoner and 50% grandfather, so I quite enjoyed this one. Bonus points for having a self-titled song on this album, I love those.

I wasn’t really a big fan of this band, although I did enjoy this album.

Absolute classic. Featuring all the hits. I don't love live albums but this is rock n roll perfection. Amazing versions of Ace of Spades, Overkill and Motörhead anchor a legendary performance. Lemmy is a god.

A nice live audience and some good metal. 4 stars

AWESOME!!

Endlich mal ein Live Konzert

rockin

A great heavy rock band playing faster heavier versions of their fast and heavy songs. Love it.

Fast and fun.

C'était vraiment très cool ça ! Le fait que c'est en live ajoute un truc, et franchement le style est top

Sometimes it feels repetitive

Behold the voice of God

All of these songs sound exactly the same and are indistinguishable from their studio versions. It does start to get old after a while. While I don’t think this album was necessary for this list, this would have been a fucking awesome concert to go to.

Fun! I really liked the last Motörhead album we had and this was more of that. My only note would be a lot of these songs sounded the same.

I remember being surprised by our last Motörhead album. None the less, I was not excited this came up. I figured there was no way I needed to listen to a live Motörhead album before I die. Again, I was wrong. This melted my face off.

Rock on you Bri’ish mu’ufu’ers

probably one of the if not the best live metal albums

Motörhead fucking rules. And this is the one time where the recording actually picks up on Lemmy’s bass rumbling. It fades a little near the end but a fucking killer set.

no começo dos 80 era a coisa mais pesada que eu havia escutado até então kkk 4 estrelas

Motörhead is sick; seeing Motörhead live would have been sick (but I never did, so this will have to do).

Fantastic! 4.49 stars

As someone who historically hasn’t really cared for Motörhead, this album has changed that. They were one of those bands that were best live and loud. They are pure rock and roll distilled to high proof. 🤘

This is excellent

Hammer

Forgot to rate this after I got to it in my catch up session a few weeks ago - slaps? yeah?

This should probably be the only Motorhead inclusion on this whole list. Gives you more bangers than any of their individual recorded works, and sounds quite good. Assuming Lemmy overdubbed the vox in the studio because he sounds incredible.

Me (before listening to a Motörhead album): „Yeeeeeeeeaaaah, let’s do this, you animals! Let’s got! Motörhead! Rock‘n‘roll!!!!“ Also me (after having listened to a Motörhead album): „I think my migraine is acting up again“

a magnificent racket

I suppose I should write a review, considering this is my 100th album. I’m not a metalhead, but Motörhead’s studio version of “Ace of Spades” has ended up on multiple playlists of mine. A couple of months ago, I listened to the Ace of Spades album (which I believe is on the 1001 list) and felt disappointed. I was expecting every song to have the energy of the title track. No Sleep ‘til Hammersmith was the album I should’ve listened to instead. Every track is full of rockin’ epic energy; even the song Lemmy introduces as “the slow one” is faster than most songs ever recorded. I’ve listened to this album three times today. It’s a great album to put on repeat, and I imagine I’ll listen to it again after writing this review.

Lots of rock and thrash. Really liked this one. It's a lot of the same sound song after song, but was good enough I didn't mind. Capricorn stood out. 4/5

Fuck yeah, Lemmy. Fucking ace of spades motor boating titties, man

in love

A very strong argument for the inclusion of live albums. And overkill is nuts

Excellent live album that captures the speed and ferocity of Motörhead perfectly. The versions on here sound better than their studio counterparts in most cases. Favorite track: Ace of Spades

One of the great live albums of rock and absolutely one of the greatest metal albums of all time, essentially a greatest hits on steroids, the best material played at breakneck speed and with relentless power. A landmark of rock that unfortunately launched a lot of awful bands.

Overall: 8/10 I don't normally like rating live albums this highly but I'll give this one a pass for two reasons. 1. There's enough variety on here that it's not just "the album already in the list but live". 2. It sounds almost identical to the studio recordings, so it's essentially a "best of" album. Motörhead rocks, man. I love how dirty and gritty Lemmy's voice is, I love how their instruments always sound like they pulled them right out of a dumpster, I love that they don't care if one song sounds like the last one as long as people are having fun. Just a great band overall and this album captures the live energy they had. Fav Song: Overkill

Hell yeah brother.

*Awesome guitars and great live energy. *Ace of Spades is an all time great song *Awesome blend of metal and punk!

Excellent record!!

What a massive album, granted the original track listing only went to the song Motörhead, but this was great in many ways. Heavy metal at it's finest

I like that Motorhead falls into that genre of rock bands where if you've heard one song you pretty much know already if you like the rest of their songs; small standard deviation. I really like the energy on this record, I'll bet it sounded amazing to be there in the crowd. 4/5

Many songs that seem like the same song. I just happen to like that song. 3.5/5

Head banging, face melting, eardrum piercing, unadulterated metal. A bit untextured. I liked how he introduced all the songs and even dedicated most of the songs. 4.4 outta 5

Loud, fast no nonsense hard rock. Lyrics, if you make them out, are not going to win any poetry prizes. But that is hardly the point. If you are going to play this style of rock then compromise is fatal. Motorhead refuse to compromise. Enjoyed

How can someone with a voice as bad as Lemmy decide to front a band? It worked I guess. I've always kind of been on the fence about Motorhead. I like the music but it always sounds sort of amateurish to me. This being a live album, even more so despite what I suspect are some pretty heavy overdubs. But goddamn the bass tone is fantastic. Super raw, super dirty, super aggressive. I may only be a casual fan of Motorhead but I can see why Lemmy gets the accolades he does. Simple, heavy music is always welcome. I liked this album a lot. This may not be an record that I would sit and focus on but playing in the background while doing something else, it just hits almost all the time. 4/5

Fucking hell what a way to start a gig, straight into Ace of Spades, and it doesn't really let up from there. This album goes HARD. Hard hitting. Fast playing. BIG sound. There's some great guitar work in here which I really love. Does it sound a bit samey at times...? Maybe, but it's a serious nit-pick. There's so much energy here, and they put on a serious show.

One the one hand, I'm glad rock music has evolved beyond the sounds of 80s metal, as I would consider myself someone with a diverse taste in all musical genres, including rock subgenres. But goddamn, I cannot lie: this album fucking rules \m/ just raw, unfiltered, thunderous rock and roll. I'm just listening to this and envisioning myself in the pit as a young kid at this show and losing my fucking mind (and maybe a few limbs). This band was something special.

You need to turn the volume up to at least 12 to fully appreciate this album. Opens with the manic "Ace of Spades", and includes "Overkill", plus the eponymous "Motörhead".

Нереальная энергия. Вспоминаем тебя каждый день, Лемми. Лучшая песня - Overkill.

Amazing live album that captures the energy Motorhead brought. Made me feel like I was there and regret never having seen them perform. Fave Tune: Capricorn & Ace of Spades

This. Was. Awesome.

Great heavy metal album

VIOLENCE.

Rock rocks! Fully taste based four stars , if the rock hits it hits. Ace of spades is legendary what else to say about it?

No jailbait this time. yayyy 85/100

An band and an album with reputations. Reputedly the first ever live album to enter the charts at No. 1. And Lemmy a breed of rock musician that is dieing out. As albums go this is not a bad one, it does have iconic status. They were a no nonsense band and this is a no nonsense album, it does what it says on the can. If you like their music great album, if you don't it's not. I do so therefore it's a good album, is it worth a 5? We've had other live albums on here with much more atmosphere. Whether it's been mixed out.... (And I have seen them live enough times to believe it has)... or not, is up for debate. So not a 5, but a solid 4

What a fantastic piece of history captured here. There is so much more musicality than other metal bands and with Lemmy’s unique vocals they are a class apart. It’s rare for me to really enjoy ‘live’ albums, but this is exceptional stuff.

Vitun AWESOME ajaa autoo täysii ja kuunnella Motörheadii!

I've always had this problem with Motorhead, where I think Ace of Spades is probably the single greatest Heavy Metal song ever written, but everything else by them just pales in comparison. The closest thing they have is Overkill, but besides that everything else just doesn't do much for me. Ace of Spades rips, and then every other song sounds like a slightly heavier version of ZZ Tops. Low 4.

This album went really freaking hard, would've loved to seen them live.

just what you’d expect from a live motörhead album… loud, chaotic and frenetic. and the crowd just can’t seem to get enough. this is how you do a live album, kids. highlights: “ace of spades” “iron horse/born to lose” “(we are) the road crew” “motörhead”

Bangin’ son

Raw metal. Great intense atmospheric live recording.

Enjoyed that. Great sound - especially for a live album. Vocals and riffs on point. Made me want to go to a Motörhead gig….until I remembered that I’d be very out of place and scared….and that Lemmy is dead.

Listened to - whilst trying to feel up the Mrs on the back in of a plane, drunk at 10am. Sound - Ideal for a live album. Good energy, quite short, and no guff between songs that you often get on live albums. Live albums are cheating a bit, as they should basically be a greatest hits up to that point, but loads of bands sounds shite on live albums. Motorhead are metal for punks. Short, sharp, songs, with guitar wankery, generally, capped at about 10 seconds. Relisten - Very likely.

All very good. No padding at all. Not sure a live album really counts as they aren’t playing their worst songs live but it was good all the same.

Love it - how can you go wrong with live Motörhead?

The coffee wasn’t helping this hangover. But this fucking Motörhead album certainly did. Fuck yeah!

It's Motörhead. It's live. It hits like a weird, drunken maelstrom.

Da scaricare per il viaggio

Motörhead plays fast and well while wasting only very few breaths between songs on this live record. If this was also the case for live shows, I will never know, because the album is stitched together from different concerts. 40 minutes is more than enough of this high octave heavy stuff, because variety was obviously not a main focus area for the band.

Löud and röwdy. Just how a Motörhead album should be. It’s more a collection of live songs, but it’s got the energy of an actual Motörhead concert. The variation is not that great, but why would it be when the formula works this well?

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Not really my genre of music, but it makes for a pretty stirring live album. Basically it all thrashes away at a fast pace. The downside to that is that the tracks tend to sound pretty similar. I expect the original concerts were a blast.

It's great Motorhead, but Motorhead is just a bit single-noted.

They have one trick, but it's a really good trick. This is just great metal. But it's live, and from the early 80s, so the quality is terrible. Even with that, you can feel the energy.

vier bis fünf

This is a vibrant and powerful live performance. Blood, sweat and tears ooze from every note.

It’s about what you’d expect from 3 hours of Motörhead. Great for ‘81 though, and you can clearly see the influence on Thrash Metal. That being said, I love the Ace of Spades, but hearing it then 2-3 songs eeriely similar isn’t the best. Fun album though.

Having just listened to Back in Black, this feels very similar, just in a different subgenre of rock. If you like Ace of Spades, you won't hate the rest, even if you're craving more variety. Luckily for me, I love Ace of Spades and I'm glad I saw Lemmy before he died.

אלבום לייב מצוין! שיר מועדף - Ace of spades

At least it's not electronica. I am a bit skeptical about a band having an album and a live album in this book, as I feel there may be overlap that isn't necessary. That is especially true when the album from this book came out one year prior to the live album, as is the case for No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith. There are only 3 of 12 songs that come from Ace of Spades though, so my concerns are a bit abated here. There's no sleeping for the listener on this album either. It starts off with Ace of Spades and Stay Clean, then does not let up for the entire 40 minutes. I had not heard most of the songs on here but really liked: Iron Horse No Class Ace of Spades Stay Clean Overkill The Hammer Motorhead Even if you have heard Ace of Spades, I recommend this one too.

Kick off with Ace of Spades and just keep going. Every track slays, and they give every bit of it live. No dropoff! No soft-hearted jelly boys here! Punishment at eleven-scale! Thank god for Lemmy.

Lemmy et al, blow the roof off various venues across the UK and deliver a key live album. If you know Motorhead, then you know what to expect. Yeah, they're a one trick pony - but what a trick! Best Tracks: Ace of Spades; Overkill; (We Are) The Roadcrew

Let the record also show that Motorhead rule.

A great soundtrack to a session at the gym

Thinking about it, I may have only ever heard this version of Ace of Spades, what a great song. Not sure how I feel about a band leading off a concert with its biggest hit though. Feels like a mistake. Motorhead is an underrated band. A lot of their songs sound very similar. They make AC/DC look like the BeeGees. Other than Ace of Spades, Overkill is the best song so far. Considering the nature of the music, this is one of the best live recordings I've ever heard. The real stars of this album are the production crew.
