3. A lot of Rock scenes from Athens GA., at the time. Thet were poppy and new wavers, with a distinctfully sound, but nothing like the real ones: R.E.M.

It is a kind of very original blues mix witu a bit of african music, but they compose and play it very well.
Supported by this thematic approach, the record became an early example of a rock concept album and established the group as album artists rather than just a singles band. It has since become regarded as one of the greatest albums of all time. And then PET SOUNDS came to life!
A masterpiece, right after "PETER GABRIEL III" and the new one "i/o", he just keeps making the best music you can hear, even now. Still looking for new sounds and emotions, the greatest AVANT-GARDE musician of modern times, by the hand of DAVID BOWIE, the other greatest one! You also have to listen to his work with GENESIS, also the most AVANT-GARDE progresive band of all time! ..And his personality, so sober and human!
It's THE Rock/Pop album, along with PREFAB SPROUT’S “Steve McQueen” (1985) There's just so much right with it. The entire album is packed with melodies you'll never get out of your head, lyrics you'll contemplate spitting bitterly during your next lover's tiff, great guitar work from Lindsey Buckingham, an-array of diverse and wonderful vocalists and songwriters, and spikey hints of the trauma the group was going through while making it. Just observe how unhinged "Second Hand News" is - it tries to be jolly in the face of depression and ends up borderline insane. And how acute and cutting is that chorus on "Dreams"? "Women they will come, and they will go, but when the rain washes you clean, you'll know." Buckingham's last-ditch attempt to get over his break-up on "Go Your Own Way" is utter perfection, and "The Chain" is even better - all 5 members dissecting their infidelities and failings for all the world to listen to. Need I even mention that bassline? It truly says something for the power of this record that songs as good as Christine McVie's awesome contributions, "Don't Stop", "You Make Loving Fun", "Oh Daddy" and "Songbird", don't even stand out. Any other group would kill for songs like these, but in Fleetwood Mac, they were casually being knocked off by the keyboard player.
There is something about the music of this album. The Beatles' lyrics were better on Sgt. Pepper, their experimentation better on Revolver or the White Album, their flat-out intensity better on Meet the Beatles or Hard Day's Night - yet this album seems to be a masterpiece of transition. They're not a pure pop group anymore, yet they have not entered pure psychedelia either. It's this beautiful point on the scale that makes this album what it is. Some lyrics reveal the Beatles' first lunges into meaningful songwriting. The pure beauty of this collection of pop songs can hardly be compared. In a sense, this is the Beatles' Pet Sounds - a capsule into a beautiful balance between mature expression and popular music, with some of their most beautiful melodies ever.
Best Album ever, Pink Floyd is not progresive rock, Pink Floyd is well, Pink Floyd!
