Reviews (page 2 of 9)
Hammer, ein Riesenalbum vom Anfang bis zum Ende. It's Rock'n Roll!
Not going to overthink this one, as far as metal goes it’s a 5 if there ever was.
In your face!
This album smells like meth sweat, crankcase oil, stale beer, and tanned leather. And it fucking rocks. Straight up, greasy rock and roll. Just killer in every way if you're looking for this sort of thing.
I have love the singles form this album for sometime but have never listened to the whole album all the way through , wow what top rock and roll , metal what ever top tunes all the way through and lennys gravelly voice just adds to the chaos which is this album First one I have reviewed which warrants going out and buying and adding to my collection
Legend
What's not to like?
Lemmy winks at us from above his jack and coke! Masterpiece of the genre.
Sure
Things Lemmy was very good at: rocking out really hard, making a fucking awesome album. Things Lemmy was not good at: singing. But honestly, does it matter?
You have to be deaf to not appreciate how fucking cool this sounds ♠️!
100% energy!
As with AC/DC, Motorhead has a formulaic sound. There isn't much album-to-album deviation from that sound - a mix of thrashy metal and punk. But just as with AC/DC the formula is awesome, and on their best records - like this one - it is irresistible fun. The four track run to start the album is terrific. A classic of the genre.
Alright, this is up my alley. I've been a fan of Motörhead since the 2000s, when Lemmy Kilmister and his band were prominent in the music video games I played as a young teen. Which is why it pains me to say that at this point, all three members of the classic lineup have long passed away - Lemmy, Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor, and "Fast" Eddie Clarke. Listening to Ace of Spades again feels like peering into a bygone era of heavy music. Sentiments aside, this album still kicks ass. Credit where it's due to all the members - Lemmy's prominent bass lines and gruff vocals, Eddie's fast-paced guitar riffing, and Phil's kinetic drumwork. The band had always considered itself a rock and roll group, and boy, is this the kind of rock and roll I'm into. Pair that with the lyrics that describe the sleazy lifestyle of sex, drugs, and rock, with some Wild West motifs, and the result is a formula that worked well for the band. Even if some lyrics haven't aged well, particularly "Jailbait", it's not enough to deter me from enjoying this record. Call it a bias toward "Fast and Loose" heavy music, but I enjoy Motörhead and am a proud owner of this album. The fact that Ace of Spades, title track and all, has maintained cultural relevance long after the band's end is a testament to an enduring legacy.
10/10
LFG.
Essence of Rock - Ace of Spades has to be a contender for the greatest rock song ever. I hadn't gone further than this before, and I really enjoyed the rest of the album. I am kicking myself that I never saw them live.
Really enjoyable listen despite some... questionable... thematic/lyric choices.
♠️♠️♠️♠️♠️♠️♠️♠️♠️♠️♠️♠️♠️♠️ First things first: RIP Lemmy Rating: Rock'n'Roll/10 My god here we go. Finally something that will piss off most people in fear of their daughter while she's already on her knees doing things that'd make a priest feint. Ace of Spades is the natural opposite to clean and smooth-licked Glam Rock and anything mainstream. This band and album are the reason why a lot of rock and metal bands even grouped up in the first place. It doesn't matter if it's not perfect in a technical way because it was never meant to be. It's the kind of album that shows you the middle finger while drinking on a motorcycle. Yes, this music isn't for everyone, and that's a good thing. It makes you want to party, even if you just woke up. It demands room for its' sound, it punches through walls and throws critics out of the bar's windows instead of arguing normally. No, it's not morally appropriate, but who cares honestly? Sometimes, certain people just need to catch a fist if they won't shut up. I think I'll start blasting this album to some human rights/environment protesters next time I'll come across them. Why? Because fuck you!
classic
One of the best albums of all time. CRANK IT!
Day 46 First time listening to a full Motörhead album and it blew me away, excellent stuff. 9/10 Highlights Shoot you in the back Dance The chase is better than the catch
This is ripping, mindless hard rock. Some of the lyrics are a bit...yikes. But the riffs are loud and hard. Play it loud
HELL YES. “If you like to gamble I tell you I’m your man. You win some, you lose some it’s all the same to me”. RIP Lemmy. I love old school metal. Black Sabbath, Motörhead, Judas, etc. legends!! Set the stage for thrash (another favorite genre of mine), and new age metal. Love Lemmys vocals. Raspy, grimy, brutal. Absolutely my favorite. The guitars steady rhythms and sudden explosions of solos and harmonics. Bass and drums on point. Especially cannot understate how badass the cover looks too.
Some of the subject matter is... Dated. But otherwise...
Lemmy was a god
Best Song: Ace of Spades Lemmy ftw! 5/5.
This album fuckin’ rules. Every song does it for me, love the guitars, the drums, the edge of it all. I need this on vinyl.
Love it
This album so good
The only god i need is THE ACE OF SPADES!
I've never listened to this. After 1 listen: instant classic. Straight ahead, authentic rock and roll. I hear punk, I hear heavy metal. Echoes of 80s "alt" metal like The Cult and Social Distortion. Lenny obviously sings from the heart, the whole band believes in every drum hit, every string picked, every word sung. It's not just music, it's identity.
in yo face
Yep, cheesier than cheddar but, you had to be there!
Excellent

"We are Motorhead, and we play Rock n Roll". Yes they did. I miss them and they were fantastic. This is the third of three great albums on the spin, and probably their best. It's brilliant from start to finish, with no miss-steps. 5* Would I listen again? I do. Regularly. I've just put it on again. Would I buy this album? Yes. I did. Side One 1. "Ace of Spades" 2:48 - Thundering bass introduction. Then the opening riff kicks in. A tale about the love, and perils, of gambling. Great guitar solo. 2.48 of pure rock n roll. One of my favourite songs. 5* 2. "Love Me Like a Reptile" 3:23 - A love song. ( 😊 ). Fantastic riff. Great melody, yes melody. Great chorus. Wonderful closing solo. 5* 3. "Shoot You in the Back" 2:39 - A tale about Lemmy's love for "Western Movies". Crushing opening riff. A real toe tapper. This rocks. Great drum fills. This swings a little. 5* 4. "Live to Win" 3:37 - Great bass guitar introduction. Motorhead were never afraid to put the bass front and centre. A little slower paced. Believe in yourself, go for it and don't let anyone put you down. Probably one of the lesser known tracks, a deep cut. A change of tone from the 1-2-3 of the first three tracks. 5* 5. "Fast and Loose" 3:23 - Great opening riff. A tale of being horny in the early hours of the morning! "Don't get up, get down instead". 5* 6. "(We Are) the Road Crew" 3:13 - An ode, and thank you, to Motorhead's road crew. Great lyrics, wonderful lyrics and super drums. The wah-wah solo is fantastic. A fantastic first side of music. Side Two 7. "Fire, Fire" 2:44 - Again, probably one of the lesser known cuts. Backing vocals in the chorus. Pure rock n roll. 5* 8. "Jailbait" 3:33 - For as long as rock n roll has been around, the desire for teenage girls has been written about. Yes, it's at best dubious and no doubt some will get in a twist over this. But, this is a great song. 5* 9. "Dance" 2:38 - Great bass guitar underpinning the song. Again, the riff on this song is great. 4* 10. "Bite the Bullet" 1:38 - Fast paced and punky. A song that leads excellently into the next track 11. "The Chase Is Better Than the Catch" 4:18 - A mid-tempo song that swings, and has a real groove to it. The pre-chorus has a wonderful underpinning boogie woogie guitar riff. The song then has a nice break-down before rising to the closing solo. This would be a great album closer, 5*, but.... 12. "The Hammer" 2:48 - And they're going out at 100 mph. They had already influenced what would become "Thrash Metal" before this album but with this track, the influence is clear. 'Philthy Animal' Taylor is fantastic on this. 5* 59/60
"We only thought of ourselves as a good time rock 'n' roll band, really... But we weren't trying to get a message across, apart from have a good time, you know: get pissed, get stoned, and fuck a chick. And that'll do." - "Fast" Eddie Clarke Ace of Spades is the title of the fourth Motorhead album that came out in 1980. Motorhead is a Rock 'n' Roll band, they played Rock 'n' Roll and nothing but. They played monstrously loud and appealed to both punk & heavy metal fans. They never aligned with either genre and repeatedly insisted that they played Rock 'n' Roll. This 3-piece band helmed by ex- Hawkwind member Lemmy out punked the punks & out metaled the metal heads. They were as good as it got. They were as filthy as it got and you're going to love them like a reptile. This weekend get some head... some Motorhead!
Lemmy is God.
Not only one of the greatest albums ever written, but one of the greatest rock n roll bands of all time also. This album is a beginning to end head banging session of riffs, solo's and a vocal style so undeniably Lemmy. Pour a drink, light a smoke and enjoy some of the hardest hitting rock n roll imaginable.
Wow - a Milestone of Metal
Nice
It's Motorhead.
I forgot how much I liked metal. Liked the riffs outside of the title track a lot more than I expected (And I had listened to this album in full before)
Great album!
Rock'n'Roll
An all-time favorite and classic album!! Without a doubt, their best album!! My introduction to Mötorhead!!
Pure quality
Laut, lauter, am lautesten - Motörhead! Schnell, handgemacht, mitreißend, großartig!
The only thing that could possibly improve this masterpiece would be to find a way to play it as loud as they played the title track at that concert I went to at The Commodore in Vancouver in 2002 or so that left me half-deaf for three or four days.
ОМАГАД, ЭТА ЖЕ МОЯ ЛЮБИМАЯ ГРУППА, КАК ЕЁ ТАМ...НАРКОЛЫГА 5/5
👍🏼
Oh HELL YEAH!
Holy shit this was awesome, tight, rippin, crunchy! Knew I was sleeping on Lemmy. Top 3 fast and loose, the hammer, ace of spades
Perfect album! Ace of Spades ia a masterpiece!
Absolute banger
Classic. I have to give this a 5, I owe so much to this album. One of the greatest metal albums. Punk rock and biker rock. Their sound is undeniable and they inspired future generations.
I expected to have fun, but even so I was pleasantly surprised! Solid album all the way through. I kind of thought it would be the Ace of Spades and then a bunch of waffle to justify why I've never heard any of their other songs. Instead, I will be listening more! No awful rock ballads, just cock rock firing from the hip, and it's marvellous. They knew what they were about and did it well. Line of the day goes to 'I'm in your life, I might be in your wife...' Hm.
Lemmy king
Monster bass sound, killer grooves. Lemmy and the boys nailing it.
The lyrics may be dodgy, but the riffs are great. The songs may sound the same, but I'd happily keep listening to more.
oh yeah
Fkn 10 stars out of 5! THIS ALBUM IS SO AWESOME! Gets me so hyped. Best version of the Kilmeister since Hawkwind. Love this guy!!!! We are the Road Crew! Chase is better than the catch!
Epic
Classic Mr. Kilmister
Classic Motorhead
Excellent
Greatest hard rock album ever
So amazingly flawed, rough, ready, and honest. Rock and roll at its best. RIP Lemmy. Long live Motorhead.
What a real metal album should be. 12 songs of pure power chords and adrenaline. Similar songs but like ac/dc if you like one you like em all. Must listen
Ich Stelle fest: Motörhead macht keinen Krach und ist nur laut, sondern machen richtig geile rockige Musik mit Freude und Verstand. Mega.
Powerful and banger!
Okay, so here's a Motorhead memory from me: One of my friends' bands (Life of Crime, I think?) were playing a basement show and said a cover was for me. It was Ace of Spades. I went nuts. Best rock band ever and I can't be convinced otherwise.
Another perfect album from Lemmy and the boys. This band is a litmus test that will determine if we're going to get along or not.
If you've never abused amphetamines I don't care about your opinion regarding this band. Most things really, but especially Motorhead.
a classic heavy metal album that is considered to be one of the best metal albums of all time. It was released in 1980 and has been certified platinum in the UK and gold in the US. The album is known for its raw energy, aggressive sound, and catchy hooks. It is also considered to be one of the most influential metal albums of all time.
Hell yeah
Incredibly influential. Love this record. So much energy and killer riffs. Punk attitude with a metal sound and badass execution = Motörhead
Classic Heavy Rock AND ROLL. The Roll is the important part - Phil Taylor's drumming is aggressive, powerful and swinging. Vic Maile does a great job of production, too - everything is strong and clear.
It is what it is, but it's awesome for what it is. Because sometimes, a cheeseburger, fries, and a Coke is the perfect meal: even if the guy making the burger can't cook to save his life.
Ace of Spades and 10 songs that are almost Ace of Spades but I wish were Ace of Spades. Not as good as their live album, still amazing.
Nothing like the thought of amorous lizards to get my blood pumping 😝🤘. 5
RIP Lemmy.
Timeless
5/5
ace of spides love me like a reptile shoot you in the back fast and loose jailbait dance the hammer
Look, I'm incredibly biased when it comes to Motörhead. I own all 23 albums, got a big snaggletooth tattoo and celebrate Christmas eve as the birt of our true savior, Lemmy Kilmister. Even tho it's not my personal favourite, it's an easy 5 stars.
Great album. Such catchy riffs and amazing music.
It's loud, fast, simple and dumb and I love it. Don't look too deep, just enjoy, preferably loud while slamming down Jack n Cokes.
Cranked up on a road trip or hanging out drinking beers this record is the perfect fcking rocker to put on and turn up.
It may be one dimensional, but what a dimension. Loud and fast in the perfect way. I'm no metal-head, but this is my favorite kind of metal.
🤘🤘🤘
let's go!
\m/ MOTORHEAD!!!
Awesome rock, thoroughly enjoyed
Fuck Yes!
Back-to-back-to-back loud, dirty n' heavy-ass rock n' roll that absolutely deserves to be played in a sleazy biker bar n' strip joint in the middle of nowhere off a desert highway. And I mean all that as the highest of compliments, by the way. It both kicks **and** bads asses. Next to AC/DC, you ain't gonna find a group that does one kind of rock n' roll as well as they do. Gawd**damn**!
A high energy shotgun blast of an album that starts at 10 and never lets up 'til the final track.
It’s a 4.5 that I’ll round up to a 5, but there is one very noticeable flaw. It’s Jailbait. It hasn’t aged well, and it’s morally reprehensible in its lyrics. With that said, the rest of the album is a ball of energy that overwhelms that one track so much that the entire experience is fine without it. Just a ridiculous display of the guitar, great tempos (and really hard percussion, I would imagine), all anchored in by Lemmy’s voice, which sounds like it’s a cigarette away from falling apart at any given time, but somehow just works perfectly for this sound and this style. I just really, really liked it; it clicked super well for me, and I feel good about giving it a 5. Never adding Jailbait, though.
Finally some good music after a long series of exceptionally boring and pompous music. I love Motorhead and Ace of Spades is my favorite album. All theses songs are super RAW and im all here for it
I first became aware of Motörhead from Ace of Spades appearance on the Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 soundtrack. I remember it always having a peculiar and visceral effect on me every it came on and listening today was no different. This is a huge album that requires and deserves several more listens through and at least two additions to Fat Riff Friday.
Amazing album. Listened 3x
Lemmy is god
Yes
Good album! Was fun to listen to
A great punk/metal album that would be one of the most importavgift records of all time.
Absolute 5 star ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Play it loud - Play it hard! (RIP Lemmy) What an album when it came out. Ace of spades - Absolutely Brilliant Shoot you in the back - Brilliant Live to win - Brilliant Fast and loose - etc (We are) The Roadcrew - fantastic Fire Fire - aka Alice Cooper riff Jailbait - etc Dance - etc Pure Heavy metal, great bass, drums, guitar solos and with larger that life Lemmy on vocals. Aaah, what an album ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 😎♠️
Motorhead's second best work behind their self-titled.
One of the best rock albums of all time. It deserves much more than five stars.
Sounds like the best of '70's rock with the beginnings of speed metal and punk all mixed together. Plus the guys look hot.
Metall at its best
Doubted I would like it but completely rips
fun album liked it a lot idk about their other records but this one slaps alot it’s really my kind of music love it!
It’s Moterhead
Lemmy is God
Hell yeah!!! Lemmy!!
After listening to Ace of Spades. I can safely say that its the best album i have looked at so far. The songs were high energy, intense, and really fun to listen to. The pacing was also perfect by allowing the songs to have enough time to sink in without being too long. The vocals worked very well with the songs too. This was a really great album Best Song: Live to Win Worst Song: [We Are] The Roadcrew
Yeah, this rocks hard. Love it.
Amazing rock and roll at its best
Lemmy
I've seldom cycled to work faster
"THE AAACE OF SPAADDEEES, THE AACE OOF SPAAADES" Raw. Gutsy. Awesome!
It's Ace of Spades, it gets a 5.
Loud, brash and obnoxious. Horrible lyrics. Riffs. This is music for blurry nights full of cheap whiskey and dirty speed... Lemmy, It's made by Lemmy for people who live like Lemmy. Classic. 9.5/10
YEAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH
5+ , eines der seltenen albem, die mal einmal hört und mag... glaub hab davor noch nie was von motörhead gehört, obwohl mir die band bekannt war :)
One of the most influential albums in the heavy metal genre! Love the band!!! personal top3 in no order: Ace Of Spades Fire Fire Jailbait
The man, the myth, the legend!
TBH I can listen Lemmy and his simple tunes all day
I’ve only known Lemmy by reputation. But I have to say this doesn’t disappoint. Again, it’s straight ahead rock. The lyrics are out of touch with today but in 1980, this shit must have been poetry.
Well that was a damn good time.
LEMMY IS GOD
Goated
Ace of spades - sheer bloody poetry. We are the road crew. Psalmist brilliance. This album - magic. Ok it hasn’t aged that well, or maybe I haven’t aged that well. It works beautifully though. And finally an album that deserves placement in this type of list. Lemmy … Philthy animal … fast Eddie. The unholy trinity of metal and punk. Just bloody magic.
It's Motorhead! One of the greatest rock and roll records of all time. Slightly less shout-y than their previous records and marginally better recorded, but still with an urgency and energy that cuts through almost anything. I've heard that they would spend a week in the studio getting the guitar tone, but it still sounds like they loaded in, turned on (loud!), and blitzkrieged their way through a set before storming off the invade another neighbouring country. It's sexist as hell (which hasn't dated well). I know Lemmy found Ace of Spades limiting, but what a song!
Awesome
AHHH I loved it. All that is good with music is embodied by this record.
Brilliant. 5 🌟
ein Klassiker
Look up "badass" in the dictionary, and you will find these guys. A standout album from a band who was always bigger than any genre that would have them. Embraced by rockers, metal heads and punks alike, Motorhead was harder, faster and meaner than just about anyone else. These songs have raw, muscular, hard driving sound that's the sonic equivalent of getting run over by a truck. But it's still highly listenable, never overbearing, and Lemmy is mesmerizing as a front man. Some songs are better than others on here, but the album as a whole is pretty amazing. Fave Songs (All songs, from most to least favorite): Ace of Spades, Love Me Like a Reptile, (We Are) the Road Crew, Live to Win, Shoot You in the Back, Fast and Loose, Fire Fire, The Hammer, Bite the Bullet, The Chase is Better Than the Catch, Dance, Jailbait
Oh yeah. That’s the shit!!
A classic. I do t understand how anyone can dislike this record. I can still remember listening to „Ace Of Spades“ for the first time. What a momement!
Don't forget the joker! Sabbath mashing the NOS, god damn this goes so hard.
Newly minted Motorhead fan
LEMMY!!! I love me some Motorhead!! I've listened to this album many times before, and can't wait to listen again! Motorhead are credited with influencing speed metal and thrash metal. They were on the forefront of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal in the late 70's - early 80's, and helped breathe life into a dying genre. Lemmy's coarse, gravelly voice helped push the hard and heavy feel of their music. Motorhead were also known to play super loud at their live shows, with Lemmy's phenomenal bass guitar taking a front seat, and hitting you right in the chest with sound! Ace of Spades takes me back to my first year of university every time I hear it. I had a dorm-mate who would start his Friday night drinking escapades every week by blasting Motorhead and shotgunning a beer! I feel like Lemmy would be proud!! The themes sung about on this record are a bit risque, but that epidimizes Motorhead's persona. They sang about substance abuse, promiscuous sex, and good VS evil. Overall, a phenomenal album today. An instant 5 stars. I didn't even have to listen to it again to assign it that grade! It is just such an awesome album, and is very influential to the droves of acts that came after it! Favourite songs: Ace of Spades, (We Are) The Roadcrew, The Hammer, The Chase is Better Than the Catch, Shoot You in the Back, Live to Win, Fast and Loose, Dance, Dirty Love, Love Me Like a Reptile, Jailbait, Bite the Bullet Least favourite songs: Fire Fire 5/5
I really enjoyed re listening to one of my favourite albums in my collection. It is from start to finish just electric. No words can describe how much it is. Favourite tracks are "Ace of Spades", "The Chase Is Better Than The Catch" and "Live To Win" 5/5 Absolute masterpiece of a hard rock album.
Don’t listen to this while driving. This album was awesome.
Love it
Perfect classical rock music
Side one is immense. Side two is even better. This is undoubtedly my favourite album from the so-called "classic" line up.
THE ACE of SPaDES
Never heard this album before. Obviously the title track is a classic but the rest holds up and really is rock n roll/metal/punk combined. can here some many links to other tunes and band. fantastic
As an album gets a little samey however is such a tour de force of great hard rocking music and attitude impossible not to love. 4.8
As a metal fan, I loved this. I really had not listened to a ton of Motorhead outside Ace of Spades but this was very sold. Lemmy is one of the best to do it. Stand outs were Ace of Spades, Live to Win and Fire Fire.
Excellent effort, plenty of classic tracks, raw power all the way through
If you like Metal this album is foundational. Non stop licks that will force your head to bang. Who would win a fight between Lemmy and God? Trick question. Lemmy is God!
Lemmy is God, 5 stars.
Had this album before, but a pleasure to listen to again
Excellent. Fast, hard, energetic. Can you imagine what it would've been like to be at a live Motörhead show? And in the pit? I wish.
Hell yeah, Motorhead! Punks love 'em. Rockers love 'em. I love 'em. Got me so pumped up I played it a second time.
sonzeira, já curto das antigas
I was expecting this to be more lame music that old white divorced men play when they work on their motorcycle but it’s actually awesome. Every song gets you amped but especially ace of spaces and fast and loose. Just a great kinetic energy running through the whole thing. Also I was looking through my history and I meant for kind of blue to be a 4. Th Bee Gees are nowhere near a miles Davis John Coltrane collab and should not have the same score.
Iron Maiden yesterday and Motörhead today! Does the metal gods smile on me? Yes they do! There aren't much good extreme metal included in this here book, but some of the original classics are here at least. The pummelling is endless, it's like a bulldozer going on and on, riff after riff, while Lemmy shouts on top of it. It's simple really. But also very effective.
Heavy Metal yeah….
Top, top stuff.
Metal!
Kaboom and Hell Yeah! Let's keep the party going and kickstart the weekend. And that's exactly what Motörhead does on "Ace of Spades," their fourth studio album: their most commercially successful one and US debut release. My second relentless album in a row after The Germs. This album is considered the proto-type for thrash, equal parts metal and punk. That pissed off their lead singer and bassist Lemmy Kilmister who said it's just rock and roll. However, you classify, it just rocks. I do hear a lot of Deep Purple cranked up a couple of notches with the speed. It was produced by Vic Maile who tried to translate the band's live act to vinyl and he nailed it. Besides Lemmy, Motörhead consisted of "Fast" Eddie Clarke on guitar and Phil "Philthy Animal" on drums. All great rock and roll names - check. The album cover is an ode to Western movies with each of the band members dressed as famous actors who played in Westerns. Let's not waste getting this going with "Ace of Spades," Motörhead's biggest song. Great guitar intro, searing guitar solo and Lemmy's voice. Lemmy uses gambling as metaphors for living life hard. "I don't want to live forever." "Love Me Like a Reptile" is one song that reminded me of Deep Purple with its more heavy metal guitar. The pace is kept fast though. The lyrics compares love/sex to lizards, black mambas, rattlesnakes and electric eels. The first side ends with "(We Are) The Road Crew" which is a tribute to their roadies. My head is now in consistent bob motion. Driving bass and drums. Two absolute stud guitar solos. The second side continues the musical barrage with "Fire, Fire" and "Jailbait." Both songs about women and sex. "Bite the Bullet" takes the title track to another speed level. Bye, bye Deep Purple. "The Chase is Better than the Catch" slows it down a bit but continues the theme. "The more I get the better it is." "The Hammer" ends the album in proper thrash fashion. "Believe me the hammer is coming down!" It's too bad if the only Motörhead you know is the song "Ace of Spades." This whole album is exhibit A as to why you need to listen to more and more. I need a cold shower now.
Great album, love all the songs tbh. Some weird lyrics, but it's the 80s no? eh.
What’s not to like. Gritty, fast paced, great bluesy solos!
Will never forget hearing the title song as a young child watching the Young Ones; at which point it cemented itself as one of my favourite songs (despite the ludicrous lyrics) of all time.
First listen. Classic! Heard many of the songs before but it was nice to put a name to a face.
This is a masterpiece. Ace of Spades is the ultimate Motörhead song.
Fast chaotic motion. Riding on a machine, roaring through the wind, parts threatening to shake themselves loose, but everything holds together somehow. For 36 minutes at least. Never* tips over into nasty egotism like so many imitators, Motorhead is shouting who they are over the roar of the engine, and you can take them or leave them. Personally, I will take them. This is my first time listening to a full album of theirs, and it won't be the last. *ok just that one time
Лемми Министер
Pretty much one of my favourite listening experiences ever. I've owned the album for about twenty years and it simply never gets dull. Title track is, of course, a scorcher but there's fuck all filler on this platter. A locomotive, an absolute juggernaut of an album.
WHERE DO I EVEN START?!?!? Love this album to pieces, though if I had to pick my top 3 tracks: "(We Are) The Roadcrew," "Love Me Like a Reptile," and "Shoot You In the Back".
My favourite Heavy Metal band. I went to see them in the 80's and my ears have never fully recovered...... The dodgy lyrics and nihilist image don't detract in my view but only add to the mythos surrounding the band. Lemmy is a 100% cast-iron Legend to me and the fact that some of the WOKE reviews are seriously worried that their sons and daughters will be tainted by listening to this make me chuckle. Musically it's quite accomplished (especially the guitar solos) and needs to be played at top volume. 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Gun
Classic album. Still sounds great to this day. Legends.
Clássico!
It's Motorhead! One of the greatest rock and roll records of all time. Slightly less shout-y than their previous records and marginally better recorded, but still with an immediacy and energy that cuts through almost anything.
YEAH BOIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
Lemmy, Eddie and Phil’ masterpiece. Hard rock/metal’s eternal standard. Must be listened to from start to finish to appreciate its brilliance.
motorhead innit. you know exactly what you're getting. even though i've heard ace of spades a million times (thank you Tony Hawks pro Skater 3) its still mint. i'm pretty glad that Lemmy fucked off his silver machine for speed and JD.
SCC of an album! Full of Motorhead classics, the kings of rock n roll.
This is pure, undiluted rock'n'roll that appeals to the hard rock, punk, and metal world simultaneously. I personally prefer some of their other albums but this is still a gem and the title track is their signature song. What a great band. Lemmy will always be a king. As a reminder: if you think this is a 1 or "sucks" but think that something like Grizzlybear or Sufjan Stevens is a 5, international law mandates that we stay a minimum of 500 ft away from each other at all times.
Superb from start to finish.
An all time banger. RIP Lemmy.
They are in a real hurry to get somewhere where they already are, and the traffic sucks.
Ace of Spaces
Amazing album. Classic rocking tunes all through. Some lyrics a little dated and the sound is pretty constant for the whole album. Lemmy rules.
Awesome album!
There's something really charming about Motorhead, especially their early-mid 80s stuff. I could listen to it all week (and I think I have done at times lol). Super unique, gritty as it gets, it's one of those few times you don't have to wonder if the band was just writing songs about rock n roll or not. You can hear the authenticity oozing out of the speakers. Lemmy wasn't bunging on the "30 beers and 2 packs of smokes" voice. 5/5.
Fantastic. Been a fan for years
Solid
The musical equivalent of a Lancaster Bomber exploding into your ear drums
Brilliant.
-"Ace of Spades" has an absolutely thundering and classic riff. It is also a Chad song that doesn't even rhyme lol -The riff from "Shoot You in the Back" sounds like the riff from "Watchin' You" by Kiss -"Love Me Like a Reptile," "Fast and Loose," "(We Are) The Roadcrew," "Fire Fire," and "The Chase Is Better Than the Catch" are great catchy tunes
Another album that I've listened to multiple times before, which definitely skewes how enjoyable it is (rather than rating an album based on a single listen). It's so good though!
The album FUCKING RULES. Motörhead are one of the more consistent bands to ever come out, and it’s a damn shame only two of their albums were included in this book (Overkill and Bomber should’ve made the cut).
An almost perfect blend of early punk and metal. An exciting and energetic album filled with awesome guitar riffs, punishing drums and wonderfully fun vocals. It's just a great time from start to finish.
5/5 Ultimate Classic
Saw them live once, they were great. RIP Lemmy. Fantastic album.
Wahnsinns-Album. Einfach aber doch wegweisend!
Fun classic rock album. Enjoyable listen.
Yup, this is good. I can hear the hawkwind in some of these songs. Good to dig a little deeper than just the first 2 songs
Monumental, como la plaza de toros. Más influyente que la influenza.
They do this so well
Hell yeah! \m/ Quintessential, pioneering heavy metal album. This thing started/inspired so many other great albums to come it's unbelievable.
Nothing more to add.
1 a geiles album.
gut
Awesome
Great album. Wish I would have found them earlier, this album pumped me the hell up.
True Rock n' roll. Long live Lemmy. Favorite tracks: "Ace of Spades", "Love Me Like a Reptile", "The Hammer"
Only knew (and loved) the title track. But the whole record is pure dynamite!
This is a very good 80s hard rock album. It's pretty same samey though, but that's not a problem if you like this sound, which I do. Awesome album to get amped up.
I like it for what it is.
Nothing but bangers on this album, the title track is obviously the best but this is just really consistent and probably the best motorhead I've heard. Great riffs
This list is making me realise that the 1980s were a much better time for non-pop music than I thought it was, and that's especially true for metal. A lot of my taste in music leans pretty modern (mostly mid-2010s onwards), so it took me way too long to get into a few bands that I definitely should've earlier, including Motörhead. These guys do absolutely nothing but kick ass and chew bubblegum, and they were all out of gum by the time they needed to record this album. That being said, the song outing the lead singer as Schrödinger's Pedophile definitely takes a star off my rating, but the completely bouncing-off-the-walls energy of the album and ridiculous guitar soloing almost makes up for it.
3.5-4/5 Einfach cool
another "better than expected" album but won't listen again probably
lmao just so dumb and gross and cool
Never heard before. I was surprised to like it. A punck sound from the early aigty helped, but as soon as Ace of Spades stated I was sure I heard ir before. Actually Isome songs in "Veuillez rendre l'ame à qui elle appartient" sound quite similar and I came to the conclusion that Serge Gay Tissot the guitarist was influenced by Motorhead.
Ace of Spades is ein Banger. Rest des Albums fetzt auch. Geil Edit: Ich habe nun den Text vom Song Jailbait gelesen :-(
Solid. It’s just straight forward, hard rock. Gritty and snarly.
Great energy but does start to get samey. 4/5
It's impossible not to get a serious lift from that classic opener. Ace of Spades has to be up there as one of the finest rock / metal songs. It still bares repeat listening now. I even had an Ace of Spades patch on my denim jacket in the 80s. As each track hammers past with Lemmy yelping and hollering it's hard not to get caught up in the rush. Mostly the lyrics are hilarious but utterly entertaining... except in these more enlightened times Jailbait isn't exactly Nabokov. I've never read any biographies of Motorhead / Hawkwind and crew but I imagine it would be a pretty erm, interesting tale. Definitely worthy of being on the list if not worthy.
In the third series of skins Jack O’Connell sings the title track. I like thinking about Jack O’Connell. Negative 1star for the song Jailbait
Strong 4 for me, still holds up really well. Will be making it's way into the running playlist rotation.
Good album but how was Jailbait ever acceptable?
Motörhead is a band that I always knew but never really got into until late, maybe 15 years ago. I wish I had been earlier to the party, this album is excellent, one of my favorites of theirs, 4+ stars.
Another great album from Motörhead!
I mean, it is classic Motorhead..... so it has a high-floor already, not a perfect album but really good.
I think I'm finally to the point where I don't confuse Motorhead and Radiohead. Every time I had a Radiohead album in this project, I was expecting heavy metal. I first heard Ace of Spaces on an episode of The Young Ones and have enjoyed their music since.
Pretty great! Love a riff. “Jailbait” aged like milk, but Love Me Like A Reptile is my new fav 🤘.
Frenetic, ferocious, and unapologetically brash. This record demands that play it as loud as possible. Favorite track: Ace of Spades
Monster opener. The rest feels a like a lot of the same. All pretty good, but it starts to all blend together.
Love Motorhead, me. But the production was a bit thinner than I remembered. Bit of a shame, you're not quite getting the full punch
For a heavy metal enjoyer, this album is a must. The grungy speedy musicals made me wanna buy a bike. It's loud and almost cliche like, but it really works, sometimes you just need something loud and nasty in a good way to rinse your brain and let it unplug
Top stuff. Like Sabbath they bring heavy riffs and harrowing vocals from Lemmy. I enjoyed it more to them than Ace of Spades
4.5
3.5
This is pretty rad. I think if this is what heavy metal continued to sound like, I'd be on board, but instead it morphed into some guy with a high pitched voice singing about Dungeons and Dragons while another guy taps out a guitar solo with what sounds like the cheapest amp they had at Guitar Center. Instead of singing about actual demons, Motorhead sings about metaphorical demons -- gambling, booze, fast cars, faster women -- it's badass. The title track is the star of the show, but "Love Me Like a Reptile", "(We Are) The Road Crew", and "The Hammer" are all pretty great too. 4.5 stars.
You known I’m born to groove And europop’s for fools But that’s the way I like it baby I wanna be a HAPPY NATION! And then I saw the Sign And it opened up my mind I give her all that she wants And then she’s gone tomorrow It might cause your ears to bleed But it’s the only band I need It’s the Ace Of Base The Ace Of Base! 4.5 stars for Ace Of Base
Motorhead is like a really solid burger. You know what you're going to get, it's not particularly groundbreaking, but it does the job and it does it really well.
Lenny sings like he knows he ain't getting girls. 4/5
It's almost as good as Overkill. Favourite tracks: Chase Is Better Than The Catch, Love Me Like A Reptile, Road Crew
#947. It's pretty good, but like Slayer, every single one of their songs is exactly the same. 4/5: cheesy
Banger. I could quote Airheads, but I'm assuming others on here already did it. Could do without the creepy shit of Jailbait.
I now understand at least 3 of my ex bfs a lot better. Of all of this kind of metal/boy music I’ve been exposed to so far, this is the best kind
I might ultimately go back and edit this, but of the big 4 of British heavy metal, Motörhead is the band that I’ve had the hardest time getting fully into. Still, this is a really solid album. And maybe one day it’ll click and I’ll be back to edit this rating.
another album on this list where i have to give the big fat red stamp that says "hell yeah brother" on it. despite being classified as metal, this album sure sounds less like metal and more like plain ol' rock n roll. put bluntly it's more metal music made for your cooler older motorcycle -riding leather-jacket-wearing uncs. classic speed metal if you will. other rock albums are made for cruising on the highway while this one is going over the speed limit and zooming through the street like a wild animal. if i was on a road trip and i was going to... like... nevada. this album would hit ABSURDLY hard.
Thoroughly enjoyable experience- perfect length and a good mix of hard rock.
Never heard this entire album before. I enjoyed the songs I haven’t heard on the radio before. lemmy has such a unique voice.
Unabashed rock.
Gritty, loud, nasty stuff still holds up.
Every song is the same!! :)
If the lyrics weren't so 70's/80's sleaze this would rule a lot more. I guess if you're drunk enough on shit pints it doesn't matter. All the songs sound the same but they all go hard as hell, so it's fine.
Came out and did what it set out to do. Some, uh, questionable lyrics aside or the fact that Lemmy's voice does seem grating the more you hear it, that was really good.
I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. There is very little variety here though haha
Ace of spades (song) has always put me off listening to any other Motörhead music. Not a fan of the voice. However, after beginning with that song, ALL of the rest better than it. Easy 4/5.
Oh man, this is proof that less is more. The drum and guitar set the pace for a high octane journey while Lemmy’s lyrics are gruff and direct. If you’re ever throwing yourself down a hill on a mountain bike or ripping fast lines on a skateboard, this should be your weapon of choice.
Gut, gut, gut Mag zwar rock nicht so aber dazu kann man wenigstens viben Alles klingt sehr ähnlich, ich glaub das ist so nh rock Eigenschaften
Motörhead – Ace of Spades (1980) On Day 121, I shifted gears into some pure, high-velocity rock and roll. The album is definitely good, with energy and solid production that perfectly captures the band's grit. It did its thing from start to finish, maintaining a high-energy pace that avoids being boring. "Love Me Like a Reptile" was a personal highlight for me, showing off that groove amidst the chaos. While the technical chemistry and Lemmy’s iconic vocal of attitude are impressive, it didn't quite have that extra something to push it to a 5 for me. A strong, consistent 4/5 to start the new decade of the journey.
Ace of Spades 4.4 Love Me Like a Reptile 3.6 Shoot You in the Back 3.8 Live to Win 3.5 Fast and Loose 3.6 (We Are) the Road Crew 4 Fire, Fire 3.5 Jailbait 3.4 Dance 3.4 Bite the Bullet 3.4 The Chase Is Better Than the Catch 3.7 The Hammer 3.6 Score: 3.658333333
I mean, the rest of the album sounds like rough drafts of Ace of Spades. But then again, that means you get a whole album of Motörhead.
kinda super cool, not really my thing nowadays but if you gave this album to 13 year old me i would have ate it up
Great. Now I can only picture John Turturro painting a black hallway. Thanks a lot, Severance.
Such a formative part of my youth. But, it hits different today. I don't know why.
Best Songs: Ace of Spades (We Are) The Road Crew
The opening title track has an undeniable energy and power. I use to love this song growing up, but since listening to a lot less metal than I use too I haven't heard it in years. Glad to know that it still holds up. The rest of the album is not as good as the opening track, but the album keeps a similar energy throughout. Sometimes I can feel fatigued from listening to metal for too long, so I was glad this album was only 36 minutes long. I feel like Lemmy's voice works perfectly for Ace of Spades, but can be less fitting for other songs and the lyrics can be quite weak especially having a song called Jailbait that is just as gross as it sounds. Favorite Track - Ace of Spades Least Favorite Track - Jailbait ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Worthy of inclusion based on the inspiration it generated came by a bit samey in parts but still noteworthy 3.5*
Its big, loud and aggressive. But that is Motorhead. Fast paced guitar and drums coupled with the most gravelly vocals rock. This is the most classic thrash rock album ever. On account of it having the most famous thrash song in all history on it, "Ace of Spades". If you were to make an entry into the dictionary of what metal sounds like I am pretty sure that "Ace of Spades" would be included in that entry. When Lemmy sings it feels like he is accusing you of some personal slight against him. And I wouldn't have it any other way. This album was made to be played at top volume so you can absolutely rock out and annoy everyone in an area of one square mile. I love it. (4.250)
4.1 I'm glad I'm not too smart to love Motorhead. Most of this is cock-rock to the nth degree but cmon Ace of Spades and (We Are) the Road Crew are burners. One of my regrets in life is not seeing them at Ed's when I had the chance. My bro had hearing loss for a few months after that show.
Bäst är Ace of spades, Shoot you in the back, The road crew.
J'ai hâte. 36 minutes 12 titres ça c'est efficace. Bizarre la transition avec la folk mais j'adore même si j'ai obtenu un léger mal de crane
Lemmy rip
Motorhead was a fantastic band that really bootstrapped the whole heavy metal scene. Their best album
3.5 - Good
très bonne découverte. A réécouter avec plaisir
Thoughts before listening: I mean it's Motorhead, it's going to be good. "Ace of Spades" the song is truly one of the best metal songs of all time, and I expect more of the same from the album of the same name. Review: As I said, the song "Ace of Spades" is great....then they rewrote it 11 more times and stuck all of those songs on an album of the same name. Its hard to hate this (although I'm sure a review of the lyrics would find plenty of things to complain about) and I have enjoyed listening. That being said, its pretty hard to tell when one song ends and another begins. I'll add a few of these tracks to my playlist, but the truth is that the album got a bit stale by the end. Still though its Motorhead so I'll give it 4-stars.
The classic trio of Lemmy, Eddie and Phil - all sadly now deceased - with their defining musical statement. It's a consistent album, a pure amalgam of metal and punk, and is dwarfed by its iconic title track despite plenty of other quality tracks. I love the fact that Lemmy stole the Hawkwind track 'Motorhead' and made a career out of it after they left him high and dry in the states.
♠️♠️♠️♠️
Straight down the line heavy rock 'n roll with great guitar solos. The title track is the one most know but the rest of the album is just as good. As with a lot of this genre listening opportunities will be only under specific circumstances
Surprisingly liked it but that jailbait song…
Lemmy die geile Sau
Pretty one-paced, but a great listen. Full of energy without getting too much.
Repetitive but fun!
"philthy animal" on drums
Punk and metal perfectly blended. A couple of filler songs kind of get you out of the mood, but it has freakin' "Ace of Spades" on it!
Solid hard rock. A unique delivery and keeps the pace up throughout.
8/10
