A pop classic for us milliennials
not a bad pop album if pop is your thing
I am conflicted on this album. I don’t disagree that Britney should be here, but I am not sure this is the album. Her second album, Oops… redefined Pop music for a new century. It was stronger, more confident, more mature. However, this album was the transition from perceived “angry” feminist singer songwriter (deservedly so, by the way) back to bubblegum pop in honor of ‘80s queens like Debbie Gibson, Tiffany, Tony Basil, et al. She was the teenage chanteuse right out of your high school hallway. Hit Me Baby was a classic for pop radio (…and admittedly NOW I liked it too). There are a few other bangers on this album I had never heard. Her cover of Beat Goes On should have been a radio hit, but I think the dance hall reggae messed with her pop princess aesthetic. It’s a shame. I really like it. I also like the R&B reggae Soda Pop. It should have been a Song of the Summer for 1999. Sorry Carlos. I guess the more I talk about, the more I see how this could be the album for her. It can stay.
Baby one more time IS the ultimate hit
Very dated, with cringey lyrics. But the title track is still a bop.
e-mail my heart has got to be the funniest song title ever
Fattar varför hon var stor, vissa asnajs låtar lote enformigt sound.
Outside of the hits, this is pretty saccharine and cliched. I want to have an open mind about stuff like this which is outside my normal interests, but it seems Britney Spears didn't have much creative input or control of her work at this stage, and I think that comes across. The hits are very strong though.
Timanttisen alun jälkeen levy vähän hajoo kummalliseks sekamelskaks jotain karibiaa, wannabe soulia, ysäripoppiballadia, perus ysäri/kaksarijytää, joku muu, mikä? Jossain kohtaa rupee kyllästyttämään, ysäri haisemaan ja alun hittibiisit kerkee unohtumaan (soi päässä taustalla koko lopun levyn ajan). Ysärin loppu kaksarin vaihe on vähän mitä on.

snorted the fuck out of the crack that was the 1st part of the album 2nd half is mid
So, Britney Spears is obviously one of the most influential music artists of the past 30 years, right? Hold on, hold on. I'm serious. If we're talking about influence on the pop music landscape from the late 90s through the mid 2000s, you'd be hard-pressed to find an artist bigger than Britney Spears. She was a huge deal, and this album marked the beginning of her... tumultuous career. Yeah, despite the success she's achieved, Britney Spears hasn't had the most pleasant career or life. But, that's a whole rabbit hole that I am not deep enough into to really be able to talk about. What I can talk about, however, is her first album. How do I feel about it? It's not bad! There are definitely some solid qualities on display here. Look, these songs might have been manufactured in a studio to appeal to as many teens as possible, but they were manufactured with care. The production is rather high-quality, and the bigger hits benefit from it. Speaking of which, this album had some pretty big hits! The biggest of the bunch was easily "...Baby One More Time," and I can see why. The song is good, okay? Granted, I'm not 100% sure if my enjoyment is derived from the actual song or just the memories of that one scene from Robots (2005), but I feel like the song has got to have some part in that. Also, I finally got to mention Robots (2005) in a review again! I knew it wouldn't end with the Tom Waits review! Uhh, what was I talking about? The hits, right. "(You Drive Me) Crazy" and "Sometimes" were also fairly big hits, and they're solid too. I do think it was kind of a dumb move to put all three of them at the start of the album instead of spreading them out a bit, but then again, the album sold over 25 million copies, so who am I to tell the people who made this album that they did something wrong? Britney's singing is decent. The songwriting is rather basic, but it conveys the emotions well enough. The album doesn't go on for too long. This is a decent pop album. There's a reason why this album was able to kick start such a lucrative career for Britney Spears. It released at exactly the right time to appeal to the youth as the new millennium began. With its infectious melodies and relatable lyrics, ...Baby One More Time was enough to plant the seeds for what 2000s pop would look like. The album doesn't suck, okay? Leave Britney alone! 3/5.
Not a big fan of Spears's voice. I suspect a huge part of her success back in the day was her live appearances and music videos, rather than her musical prowess. Yeah, she's pretty. Big deal. (Though the whole schoolgirl-festishing aesthetic is pretty gross. This isn't a dig at Spears, but rather her managers and producers.) We're here to judge the music. And the music is fine – though perhaps a little regressive, hearkening back to the early-/mid-80s with its sharp, funky atmosphere, overuse of disco-strings and synths, and so on. Lots of punctuation through orchestra hits and retro deejay SFX. Despite my misgivings, I have to admit, that run of tracks at the beginning is rock-solid. ...Baby One More Time and You Drive Me Crazy follow pretty similar formulas involving orchestra hits, densely harmonised group vocals, and overuse of the V chord in a minor key. It sounds good, though. The group vocal seems to be a theme in this album. The third song, Sometimes, makes for a solid ballad to contrast with the songs on either side of it. No idea what's happening in Soda Pop. It sounds like a collab, but nobody else is credited on Spotify. Painfully poppy, too (as the song title suggests). But I kind of dig it, in an ironic sort of way. That rapid babbling by the guest vocalist can get a little irritating, but the blinding positivity in the guitars and harmonies harnesses memories in me I didn't even know existed. These lyrics, though... ugh. How this made the final cut, I have no idea. Pretty disgusting that the team of faceless composers working in a sterile production lab decided to make a 16-year-old sing this. E-Mail My Heart is also bad (though nowhere near as bad). I get the same sort of indescribable embarrassment listening to this as with songs with lyrics about COVID or the 2008 financial crisis. It makes the songs less timeless, I think. Although a lot of these sound like MJ covers, Deep In My Heart comes the closest. And once you notice it, you wish Michael was singing it instead. Darn. Still, the whole album is undeniably a ton of fun. 3/5 Key tracks: ...Baby One More Time, (You Drive Me) Crazy, Sometimes
A good album, I liked Baby One More Time and Sometimes the most.
Helt ok. Baby one more time.och (You Drive Me) Crazy är kanon! Kanske inte resten förutom The Beat goes on.
Lot of bangers on the front half.
Whatever one may say, at the very end of the 20th century, Britney Spears revolutionized teen pop music, which at the time relied on male and female dance groups, and returned it to the state of the '80s, when fans cared about a specific idol and listened to them through their eyes. The driving force here, naturally, is the track of the same name, which now a pop-industry staple, then failed glam-rocker and aspiring producer Max Martin accidentally came up with after a sleepless night. Surprisingly, there are also several upbeat hits with elements of funk and dancehall. And, of course, love ballads that resonate so deeply with young female fans. Yes, it's late-90s pop, where the song had more songwriters than you have coworkers in your coworking space, but if someone around sings "my loneliness is killing me," won't you yell back "AAAND I"? No? Swear to me! That's it. It's Britney, bitch!
like it's aight
its koay
This was inoffensive enough as music. Though I kept finding myself feeling bad because of how the industry treated Britney. The only song on this album she helped write is the last one.
It's pretty decent for a teen pop album. Personally I'd rate this pretty low on Britney's discography but it's fun and lighthearted and I think there's been a shortage of that on this challenge so far. Britney's voice is really beautiful here and I love how it sounds on Soda Pop. I can't believe that Autumn Goodbye is a bonus track, it's one of the best songs on this album.
I'm glad she's on the list.
Everyone always talks about 'over-sexualization as a minor' THIS and 'conservatorship causing arrested development' THAT, but what if the way Britney is now, in all her meth-using, knife-dancing glory, stems directly from having to live with the knowledge that she once recorded a song called Email My Heart?
This is alright, not my fav Britney album as I think Blackout is a much stronger album, and actually this is probably what I would consider one of her weakest. This however, is a good dip in the water about who she was going to be but doesn't really capture what made Britney iconic. It has a decent enough overall sound and I wouldn't turn it off, but I just feel a lot of this doesn't really sound like Britney. The title track is one of the highlights here, and the other one I particularly liked was 'Autumn Goodbye'. Overall, it's an alright listen. But doesn't really feel justified as part of this list, hopefully there's another Britney on this list (I haven't checked) Fav Track: ...Baby One More Time
Deserved spot, though.
Pure nostalgia hit, although I hated it back in the day. Some true bangers on this thing
A little bit the same, but good vibes to dance on it !
I thought this was gonna be cheesy slop with one hit, and to be clear it kind of is, but some tracks are nice. My standouts are (you drive me) crazy, sometimes, born to make you happy, from the bottom of my broken heart, i will still love you and i’ll never stop loving you (i’m aware it’s a bonus track but still.)
It's interesting to experience this album with the Britney journey that has ensued since. It's wild how quickly this catapulted her into mega stardom. It's too bubble gum poppy for me and lacks any real depth, but it was still a fun listen as a throwback to 1999 in general and to all of the sensationalism around her specifically. I like some of Britney's later music better than this, but its impact on the world of pop music at the turn of the century is undeniable. I hope she's able to find peace in her life.
So much nostalgia attached to this lousy album.
SING ABOUT SOMETHING ELSE, FOR GOD’S SAKE!!! I don’t know much about Britney Spears, she was before my time, but I do know she got chewed up and spit out by the industry. She became famous at a time when it completely acceptable and normal for older men to sexualize teen girls. As I mentioned in the opening of this review, the subject matter of these songs get very repetitive, as well as the actual music. Nothing horrible, not unlistenable, just uninspired. 3/5
Amidst the shit I’ve gotten this week, it was nice to get some simple pop masterpieces. It’s not fine art, but there’s like three or four songs that are absolute classics. The rest is decidedly mid, arguably bad, but that’s why this isn’t getting five stars! Also - there’s some songs on here, especially on the second half, where Britney isn’t even singing, right? Like, it’s obviously a studio singer? We know what Britney sounds like, and it is NOT her voice at all.
First half of the album was filled with great pop songs but the latter half fell flat.
Blackout and In The Zone are much better Records
I was so incredibly turned off by the sound of most of this. The TLC-style funk guitar backing was just driving me up the wall. That said though, her voice is incredible, and this record kind of created an entire sound, launching the Max Martin 'thing' into the stratosphere (to my chagrin). The only song I liked on the first listen was the Sonny and Cher song covered by The Buddy Rich Band sampled by The All Seeing I and then lent to Britney and Max.... On a second listen I found Sometimes kind of stuck with me though - that might be a legit classic.
Bänger
Some classics on here for sure, gets a little corny at times but there are good songs here
Some solid tunes on this one
Not something I would seek out to listen to but kinda fun. The lyrics to Email My Heart are hilarious and date the whole thing perfectly. Whoever claimed Britney is a soprano on her Wikipedia page hasn't heard her sing the words "ooh baby baby".
Y’all need to get over yourself, Jesus christ
Not for me, but I get why ut was popular.

I don't think I've ever heard some of these songs, which is weird because I thought I had this CD. What does hit me one more time mean? 3.3.
This is just fun pop. It doesn’t need to be deep, it just needs to bop
Good prototypical pop girly stuff. But it’s been done better many times
This isn't on the list for Britney. This is here to showcase 90's swedish producing.
Muestra de su época. Hoy en día me parece monótono
4/15 Really? Sigh....okay. Not my genre of music at all. I admit to having some nostalgia as I haven't heard these since it came out when it played on Radio Disney constantly. As an album, I think it's fine. I understand the significance and how influential it was at the time but unless I have a preteen daughter, I don't see myself listening to this ever again.
At first I was afraid that the songs were too good to deserve a low rating, thankfully there were a lot of filler songs after the beginning that I found boring and could reduce my overall rating to 3. I can see why the songs that are known are so well respected but I would personally not listen to this album again.
Not my thing in the slightest, but this album was absolutely huge during my childhood and you can't deny the influence it has had on pop music. Musically there was a little bit of variety, though ultimately it's all over-produced pop rubbish. Didn't hate it as much as I thought I would. I did know most of the songs already but hadn't heard them for a long time.
Key change the album. I get why she’s the pop princess of the era but post the two bangers to start this thing it gets very samey boring. You can literally pinpoint where this goes from an 5 to a 3 and it’s the key change in the third song. Insane how much like Disney radio/every pop album of this era sounded just like this. It is a good album, deserving of placement, but eh.
pretty good. iconic pop sound.
3/5
Some bangers some not so bangers
Wasn’t expecting this one lol but honestly as far as light dance pop goes this is pretty fun. Probably not gonna listen to this ever again, but overall I didn’t have a bad time
It’s Britney
I mean… it’s Britney, b*tch!
Put her on the map but not her best! where is black out!!!!
The top 3 movies on IMDB for 1999 are Fight Club, The Matrix, and American Beauty: movies about ripping off the shiny but not-quite-right veneer of life to reveal a sordid, confused reality. And then we have Britney, manufactured as a shiny veneer in contrast to the grunge juggernaut that eschewed things like "post-production gloss" and "consonance." There have always been musical darlings, and pop music has exploited the tween demographic forever. There were glossy albums that felt vacuous, but this album was like a hydrogen bomb vs a coughing baby. It was made in a lab, a soulless automaton created with the singular purpose of dominating pop music, of distilling Michael Jackson into something that could be sold exclusively to middle school girls who shopped at Limited Too. And in the middle of this pop evangelion was Britney's Shinji: sexualized and sanitized in an impossible paradox. So here we are, with this...not over-produced, but produced-within-an-inch-of-its-life sound of tooth decaying sincerely not-ironic-eye-winking-coquettish thing that drills into your brain whether you like it or not and just keeps going, a death march of sugar and pop and sheen. The people putting this stuff together were scientists. They didn't quite crack the genre, they're still throwing things at the wall (what the hell is Soda Pop? Some of this borrows a bit too heavily from mid 90s R&B? There's a marked decline after the first three megahits?) but the reverberations are there a quarter century later, like when I have to watch Barbie Mermaid Power with my kids and the dance numbers are basically identical to a lot of this album. A massive milestone in music that is the apotheosis of the brutally milquetoast tween tune. As an album, it's pro-forma - it's a vehicle for some singles. But also, as an album, it's a blueprint.
This album is minimum 3 stars just for the opening track. Listen to the Tenacious D cover of it if you’re not convinced it’s a great song. The rest is pretty cheesy.
Iconic work by Britney, and influential in the turn of the century pop.
It's okay I guess but she should have left Sonny & Cher alone. 3 stars or C-.
This is what you’d think it’d be: a pop album with some rock sensibility, although some tracks sound they were fished out of Mariah Carey’s trash bin. A cover of Sonny & Cher’s “Beat Goes On” is a nice surprise.
Haha fuck yeah
Soulless, industrial pop on one hand, fucking catchy on the other. Some fun memories with ..one more time, most of the rest just went past me, maybe I was just to young to have been really hit with the britney spears train, or it was just neber something for.me
agfange miteme genrational banger, nocher starch abgnoh, rnb chli weirdi choice für britney, soda pop sehr random song, chli schade, overall nödemol schlechte boge übers album, remixes am schluss au chli blöd
Decent pop, but it does lose steam as it goes on. The closing track is mixed pretty poorly, not a good ending note.
#FreeBritney
It's Britney... So, I mean, she's great... I thought after the first two songs...5 stars, no doubt. But it is only meh... Still the first two tracks give the whole album a boost.
remember the album and videos well. listening to the album, i was surprised that it's not as bad as i originally thought. especially for a seventeen-year-old. it's much better than the pop music out now. now dont get me wrong, i probably will never listen to this album again, but i i was pleasantly surprised.
A prime example of teen pop rock. Hard to hate but equally hard to loke. Fluff.
Not bad but not my genre
Similar to the JT album, this started very hot but then dragged on for too long with the best songs front loaded
This title track is a banger...so is "(You Drive Me) Crazy". Idc what the haters say, whoever was writing these songs was churning them out. The R&B influence in 90s pop makes the pop music of that era a lot more interesting and msuically sophisticated than today. Album overall has some goofy bubblegum teenage pop songs, shes not the caliber of singer as Christina, but they're little earworms and I was alive in 1998 so I enjoy it. Way prefer this over the braindead British electronic that has dominated this list at times.
I like mostly the songs that weren’t hits. A lot of the album sounds like an overproduced Disney song. Notable tracks include Soda Pop, Born to Make You Happy, I Will Be There, Thinkin’ About You, The Beat Goes On.
I thought I'd like this more than I actually did. Guess I'm not really a Britney fan.
Baby One More Time is a banger but the rest is a bit generic. Also Email My Heart probably sounded so modern in 1999 but is now so cringe. 3.
idk
This started pretty strong with the hits. It then went sort of all over the board with some Boyz 2 Men sounding stuff, and then some slow songs. Typical of the time period I think, but it definitely went to several different genres which I wasn’t expecting. 3/7/26
Classic title track, the rest is meh. There’s certain songwriting things repeated throughout, like key changes and triumphant bridges in almost every song, but the slow burn songs suck and the album overall sounds dated now. Still worthy of this list, because she is so famous because of this album but I won’t be back.
Not what I expected to listen to today but here we are
Catchy and has some originality for a pop album 3.2
OK, tossing on my 90's teenage girl hat.. Really interesting listen because of how massively influential it was at the time, yet now feels so dated and corny.. and the fact that I absolutely avoided this when it came out. It was EVERYTHING I was against. I don't hate it, but I also can't see myself putting it on again, anytime soon. It falls off a cliff after the first three songs anyways. Spins: 1 Playlist Additions - ...Baby One More Time - (You Drive Me) Crazy - Sometimes
Take me back to 1999 and listening to 'Autumn Goodbye' on repeat after Connor Callahan and I broke up while the smell of the Tommy Girl perfume he bought me lingered in my childhood bedroom. I loved revisiting this album, even if I found myself wanting to speed through the back half (but for real, was Email My Heart ahead of its time?). Is it the best, tightest album I've ever listened to? No. But its impact on pop music is unquestionable.
The cool thing about being in sixth grade when this came out is that being horny for Britney was totally unproblematic. More R&Bish and less annoying than I expected. But impossible to evaluate objectively through the haze of middle school nostalgia.
How do I know all of the words to these songs???
I was never a big fan of pop, especially teen pop like this. However, a few songs on this album are catchy and nice to listen to. That being said, all those songs are on the first side of the album. The second side is easily forgettable and the songs run together. Overall, the album is good, but it’s not amazing.
The hits are so good but the others fell flat :(
This album was pure nostalgia, but I don't feel like the bubblegum pop sound has aged well.
Never listened to her much back in the day. Typical bubblegum pop music. Nothing groundbreaking or overly offensive either.
Lowkey this ruled. Obvi title track is a classic, the other stuff is not as iconic but still some really solid pop tracks
My at the time 8 year old daughter was a fan. And that’s good enough for me.
Pop is a genre that has some of the best songs in the world, but also some of the most annoying. On one side of the spectrum, we have songs with exciting, glorifying or calm melodies that use so much music theory to take it to a truly amazing level. On the other side are the songs that are cheesier than other pop songs (which is saying something), or have super annoying melodies, which can get stuck in your head due to pop’s repetitive style. This album skewed closer to the latter. It wasn’t a bad album, but nothing great.
Not as good as I had hoped, but not as bad as I was worried about. Much like the Cyndi Lauper album, I wouldn't ever give this a 2 but it's really not a 4 either. Favorite Track: ...Baby One More Time
iconic
Title/opening track is amazing. the rest is some tried and true and yet a little corny even for it's era. Overall a fine pop record regardless.
I remember "...Baby One More Time" and "(You Drice Me) Crazy" from the radio, but there's a few more songs on this album that I forgot I knew. Somehow I know "Sometimes", and "Soda Pop" was on the Pokemon: The First Movie soundtrack. I was under the impression going I. That this would just be trite pop ("E-mail My Heart") and there is a little of that, but much more nuanced and catchy tunes than I would've expected. Overall a nice surprise. Not something I'd return to, but I learned something about Britney Spears, and myself, today.
Pourquoi ?
I get why is here
I had heard One More Time before. I liked the short little guitar solo in Crazy and the acoustic guitar on some of the songs. There was also more variety than I expected with songs like Soda Pop. She also sounds older than she really was.
Wild Tuesday pull! As a millennial I will try to not let nostalgia cloud this review too much. This album has an incredible opening three track run. Three huge hits to get the party started. After that however its a mixed bag of 90s pop. Fun at times and boring at times. I'd probably give this album a 3.5/5 if I could but its gonna get rounded down to a 3/5.
Solid pop album with some bangers
It's Britney, bitch!
Lot more guitar than I remember - interesting how ubiquitous rock tropes were even late 90s before the hip hop took over. It's fine and had an enormous cultural impact which I was of age to be cognizant of. And being a teen boy, well... interesting to see the max guy, like so many frustrated metalhead nords working out terrible english lyrics and terribly catchy music.
Classic
Fun pop album and a total time capsule that too many people think they're above
so painfully 1999
Nostalgic, some good tunes. Email my heart…..
Not really an album for me. It was fine though.
8 million versions of Baby One More time was a bit silly. I felt like multiple songs could’ve been in Ella Enchanted, fun throwbacks
Great start to the album and i thought i was about the have a lovely blast from the past. but baby i hope to hear this full album no more times. but i cant give britney a 2.
Objectively is this good music, maybe not but it makes me happy and if you know me well, you know I'm partial to a bit of Britney 😏. However, I do have something disappointing to say. I feel like most people can agree that Britney's popular songs are popular for a reason - they're great and we love them, I mean who won't sing along to Toxic?!?!! Maybe if you suffer from toxic masculinity. Anyway, the issue is that the well-known ones are amazing and the not so well-known... well that's kind of for a reason and it pains me to admit that it's true, they are repetitively trashy. So today, when faced with an entire Britney album, I was pretty excited (as you may imagine) but it turned out maybe I was better sticking to the songs I know and love 🥲. That being said, girl is an ICON and I still love her. 💘
Iconic pop album but it got abit too much by the end (for me)
Thought the rest of the album after THE SONG was pretty mid, but luckily THE SONG is an absolute banger
The first two songs gave me a bit of nostalgia to listen to. Overall, this was a fun album to listen to - her singing on some of the other tracks surprised me (it didn't sound "like her", in a good way). I wouldn't say this was anything remarkable though.
I actually listened all this as well. Mental that this is over a quarter of a century old. The singles from this got played a LOT so they're fairly familiar. Most of it is pretty acceptable bubblegum and you can call it some of the Best of Genre if that's what you're into - though not sure song for song this holds up with the likes of Taylor Swift, who's obviously a pretty smarter, more talented and business minded sort. But Baby One More Time is a fucking banger and that's all there is to it. The mark of a good song is when other people cover it and it's always good, and I've heard loads of great covers of it.
This one is a surprise. It must have made the list because of its huge record sales, and its release coincided with the emergence of several teen girl singers. I listened to the original release. There are a few catchy tunes on the album. The music is overly-processed (reminds me of the boy bands of that era), but otherwise no major complaints.
Not for me but also not bad. Was not expecting so much guitar on this album but it worked.
This album starts with two bangers then kind of falls apart after, but Britney was such a phenomenon. It's hard to not give it 3 stars.
Meh. Album seems more worried about production value. 3. A couple nice moments but nothing really interesting
A slick, instantly catchy debut that defined late-’90s teen pop, …Baby One More Time is packed with undeniable hits but feels more manufactured than emotionally deep. Still, has some bang her. Oops I mean bangers.
Ok.
It's britney female dog. The tracks sound like random beats from the electric keyboards I used to play with during music class in my youth. This is somehow positive. It reminds me of simpler times. When owning a house was the standard and when you could walk into a place of work with a can-do attitude and get hired. A time I ofcourse never lived, but sounds swell. Some of the slower songs are boring to me but I cant give an album with bops such as Baby one More time and the beat goes on lower than a 7.
The 60s came knocking with a paint by numbers set.
After Mariah and Madonna, now Britney. Color me surprised that I liked this better than the others, and by a bit. But, as told by the 3 stars, not exactly won over. I'll hand it to Britney — she doesn't try to blow your face off or create some sort of mystical persona. She sings pop tunes, pretty adeptly. My issue was and still is the sexualization of her, particularly in this era. She was maybe 16 when this was released? As the disgusting, disquieting details keep dropping with the Epstein files and the abuse of young women in our culture, the pose of Britney — a minor — on the cover... it's gross. The lyric "hit me baby one more time" is also gross with its submissive, abusive implications. It all struck me as exploitative when it was released and considering how things went for Spears in adulthood, I guess that never changed.
Other than the opener…what’s here? But Sylvia reminded me that Britney needed to hit for Taylor to soar and Andre had more positive notes than me. It’s the holidays so I’m bumping Britney a star.
= The Beatles Reminds me of the Beatles in that the songs we all know are great, they're a fun time, but everything else is so aggressively fine and forgettable.
Slightly ashamed to say I found this way better than I expected. I guess the thing about an album like this is that it'll never sound better than the first listen - not like there are deep themes to the lyrics to unpack, or textured music which reveals itself more with each listen. These tracks are catchy as hell love songs, not something to overthink if you just enjoy for what it is
Not the best voice and some of the songs are truly bad. However, the bangers do bang. 6 maybe.
Album 989 of 1089 ...Baby One More Time - Britney Spears (1999) Rating : 2.5 / 5 This one is obviously not my cup of tea, but it’s also impossible to ignore what it accomplished. This is pure bubblegum pop, polished to a shine and aimed squarely at the mainstream, and it hit every mark it was designed to hit. The songs themselves aren’t doing much for me musically, but that almost feels beside the point. This album was less about depth or experimentation and more about selling a moment, a sound, and a brand - and Britney became that brand almost instantly. The production is clean, the hooks are obvious, and the whole thing is engineered for maximum exposure and replay value. While it’s not something I’d ever choose to revisit, I can respect the machine behind it and the cultural impact it had. For what it set out to be, it absolutely succeeded. Sometimes an album isn’t about artistry in the traditional sense - it’s about execution - and this one executed perfectly.
It’s funny how we’ve heard Baby One More Time to death, but forgot everything else
One of the examples of an album that absolutely belongs on the list. Britney Spears is one of the first aspects of pop culture I remember. I was 3 when this album came out and it was such a gigantic phenomenon I was aware of it despite barely knowing how to talk. Mind you in hindsight that’s just because the media desperately wanted to know if this poor girl was banging people. And then her life got ruined by that and her crazy dad. Anyway. This album is really just the singles which are nostalgic as hell, but also really good outside that. The rest of the album? Ehhhhh. I think this era of ballad is automatically repellent to me. They sound like ass. Soda Pop? More like, uh, Soda Poop. I think my favorite song on here is E-mail My Heart, mostly because it’s this beautiful relic. It’s the You’ve Got Mail of music. And that’s great.
3.7 not bad but kinda boring and not as good as her later work
This was a solid pop album. I obviously knew the titular track, but hadn’t listened to it all the way through and honestly liked some of the other tracks more. More of an R&B vibe than I expected!
Can’t deny the staying power of the hits on this one, but it also gets repetitive to the point of parody. Every song has the potential for being a radio hit but in a cynical “throw a dart” way. The touches of R&B balladry were a welcome showcase of her vocal ability.
Cover 5 From a bubblegum pop perspective, this is decent, especially the opening three songs. The rest are decent but nothing like the opening three songs. Personally, I'm only familiar with the songs from radio, tv and movie play. Never listened to this album and probably would have never thought to do so if not for this list, which I don't think this album even belongs on.
Sadece ilk parça bu kadar efsaneviymiş
sondaki iki remix fena makaraymış
This album really falls down about half way through. Starts out super strong and then past track 6 just becomes bland pop.
Man, middle school me was smitten with Britney when this came out. I still remember a good bit of the songs on this album. This was a total paradigm shift for female pop at the time so I get why it was important. Not my type of music but the nostalgia was nice.
Man the 90s were wild. Add Britney's name to the collateral damage left in the wake of Disney's Pop Princess Assembly Line™. I was too old to listen to this when it came out, so my opinion today means even less - however what this album and this person did to the culture at the time? This is nothing short of influence. 3/5
Bubblegum at its best!
Definitely not her best.
I remember this debut. I'm trying to be objective here, but this really isn't something I would listen to. Obviously, the hit songs stand out, because I was forced to listen to them so many times. It's hard to give any good ratings for albums like this, because she didn't write any of this, or perform any of the music. Pretty good pop production, though, so I'll give this a 3.
Strong first half, weaker second half. Not my kind of music but I understand why it is on the list.
Well not as painful as I thought it would be! Actually a very well written and produced bit of poppy pop. Niiiccee!
This album was exactly what one might expect. Baby One More Time is an absolute top tier pop song. If these things were easy to write we would hear more of them, but we don't. If they just put this song on the album 11 times I would enjoy it much more, but they can't do that. That said, the filler in the rest of the album is totally fine.
Crazy what they had a 17 year old singing about lol
The first two tracks are decent. The rest falls into a 90s pit devoid of originality. She's a good singer, but they hide her behind some shitty tracks. I'd love to hear her do some covers or reimagnings of other songs. This is pretty bad. E-Mail my heart was especially awful based on the title alone.
Not terrible
More bangers than I remembered, loses steam in the back half. E-Mail My Heart really needed a modem sample
Apart from the couple of hits, this is more basic than I thought it'd be.
This is hilariously of its time - "Email my heart" feels like a parody song. Having said that, the hits are hits for a reason. Quite a nostalgic listen
Hit me baby one more time
Pretty good, not my favorite.
Album #951 Looking through the song list, I only recognized the title track. I was 24 when this album released. I wasn't listening to or exposed to much pop music at this time. But when hearing it today, I definitely remember the first three tracks. And they are pretty darn good pop songs. The album does get worse the further down the track list you go, ending with a cover of Sonny & Cher's The Beat Goes On. Spears' voice just isn't as powerful as Cher's, so it's weak in comparison. And they added static to make it sound older for some reason. E-mail My Heart wins the award for dumbest song title in recent memory. All in all, it's a decent pop album. If I played it again, I'd cut it off after 3-4 songs.
It was Ok. Though Baby One More Time is a banger.
Save it snobs, this is good pop. No, it’s not Revolver, but for what it is it, it’s great.
283/1089 - This is most definitely teen pop music. Last song was kinda cool, found an earlier version by The All Seeing I.
It's not bad. It's just filler. Generic pop music that was right for the time that doesn't really have any staying power.
I’ve had massive swings on this one. Coming of age when this came out there’s so much nostalgia. I found myself singing along to “Sometimes” and was like “how do I know this!” But after the 3 radio friendly hits at the beginning this drops off massively for me. Britney’s singing is so inconsistent and at times was wondering if that was even her. It was all just over produced garbage. This wants me to rate low and having a weekend with this doesn’t help. Man…but it’s Britney bitch…I’ll go 2.5 but round up for the pure star power, cultural impact and hotness.
I'm sure many will question this album's inclusion on the list but hard to deny how epically yuge it was when it came out. Not the easiest listen when it is front loaded with hits and the rest is pretty meh. But I gotta round up on this one even if it isn't my cup-o-tea. 2.75/5
fun but a little long
While nothing about it other than the time and circumstances in which it was produced is bad, I don't want or feel I need to listen to the entire thing.
It's Britney, bitch. Not even going to go too deep on this one, it's Britney's debut album. Not made for me then, not for me now. I remember how huge this was, and "...Baby Onde More Time" is a bop, but the rest of the album is unrecognizable to me. Not giving it a 2 because it is not unlistenable, but not more than 3. Mostly rating for nostalgia, and prolly won't listen to the full album again, willingly.
oops :P
its britney
I mean, what an opening, front loaded 101. I was actually enjoying myself, then came the filler. And too much length... but what a 90s pop flashback. Max Martin is a master.
this is when white girl music started... good album, baby one more time, born to make you happy, from the bottom of my heart are nice songs. 3
If you're a fan of poppy pop then I'm sure this is wonderful
The pop song of all pop songs, another banger, and then the most basic pop popslop imaginable.
This is a pretty solid debut pop album, and at the time it paved the way for a resurgence of female solo bubblegum pop. Boy/girl bands as well. This was the gatekeeping album. I’d say half this album is pop dynamos and the other half is half baked or not super interesting. One half carries the other.
What is this doing on the list? I mean, yes, I was secretly in love with her back then (anyone else remember the Future Husbands of Britney Spears website?), but this album is pretty corny. Especially 25 years later. Even more so with the tracks they've added to the "digital deluxe edition" that this site links to. I'm torn. I still have a soft spot for this album, for my own personal nostalgia, but it does not belong on this list.
This was fun and nostalgic and energetic but idk if it's really groundbreaking enough to warrant inclusion on this list
Me he divertido y recordado mi adolescencia.
a welcome reprieve from jazz. email my heart baby
You really get what you expect with this one.
Not even remotely my cup of tea, but the singles have OK hooks and in my old age I'm much more amendable to late 90s stuff that's sort of mindless fun . A remarkable lack of effort was put into the non-singles here.
A lotta little nuggets of good in an album thats probably more relevant for its artists cultural significance nowadays than the substance of the album itself. “Baby One More Time” in the context of the rest of this project now seems almost edgy on purpose. Worth its status as a pop hit either way. “Soda Pop” latches on to one of the funniest pop trends of its time with the Caribbean MC and laidback beat. “E-Mail My Heart” had me laughing at its title but honestly this song ended up being my standout track. There’s some amazing vocal runs and it goes above and beyond in achieving its goal of being a sappy pop ballad. Love the chords, love the composition choices towards the end of the chorus. “The Beat Goes On” also has some wildly in-touch production choices, this thing sounds spectacular. Last, “Autumn Goodbye” is a candy-sweet dance pop closer that nails that bittersweet banger sound that came from y2k club-focused tunes like this one. I’m a little uneasy coming away from this one, and none of it has to do with the music really. I think she got too much attention for all the wrong reasons that had to do more with her appearance, age, & status as a popstar around this time. She got the raw end of the deal a lot of times following this album. Some solid pop hooks, a few forgettable 90’s tropes. 3/5
Debut, world record for use of baby, cyndi lauper, write s/t Baby one more time Born to make you happy
She was way more of a normal pop star than I imagined. I thought all of her music was sexy but no, only a select few of them were made that way
Very pretty and deeply disturbing.
a collection of either competent pop songs underwhelmingly executed or underwhelmingly written pop songs competently executed.
I know that when this came out it was a huge success, but maybe I feel like it ends up, not in a bad or negative way, but just a sort of point and say, yeah, that is an OK album sort of way, that it is radio POP. There are lots of snappy, memorable tunes born of radio pop. OK. Great. The issue is not that this is bad or flawed or there is something wrong with it. Maybe, just maybe it feels produced to be simple, catchy, hit making through repetition, there is nothing unexpected, exciting, different, deep... it is what it is supposed to be, nothing more, nothing left. It pulls no punches. And I suppose that is kind of a problem in a way.
Liked it more than I thought I would lol.
Quintessential 90s album. Fun, memorable, a good time
Büro, Heidenheim, Deutschland. Nich so gut gealtert.
1: 5/5 2: 4/5 3-6: 2.5/5 7: 3/5 8/9: 2/5 10: 2.5/5 11: 2/5 12: 3.5/5 13: 2/5 14: 2.5/5 15: 3/5 16: 3/5
Heard it a million times, and the good ones are still good
Cool to see 90s teen pop represented :-) can't treat it as a masterpiece though
This album has some all-time hits, but I'm not sure if I've ever listened to the entire album. Honestly, I think I was surprised at how inconsistent the album was, because for every "Hit Me Baby (One More Time)" there's an "Email My Heart". Little bit of a roller coaster. Overall, the hits raise it up, but it's not a winner from start to end. Has some important songs though so definitely still worth a listen.
There were some good songs on here but also some stinkers.
I'm not much of a fan of this era of pop women. It feels like they're oversinging, and it's lyrically pretty generic. Still, bubblegum is fun sometimes, and I enjoyed the production for what it was.
I'd never paid this album that much attention (other than watching a great documentary on Netflix about Max Martin and the Swedish hitmakers). It was pretty good I thought. Though Toxic is my favourite Britney track
Honestly, better than expected. There are some really cool ideas on here and Spears might be underrated for a vocalist. I’m just not a fan of the lyrics or the slower, blander tracks.
Sockersöt pop.
Amazing singles but the filler is stomach churning.
57/100. The album leans heavily on its biggest hits, while much of the rest feels forgettable or underwhelming. It's alright, but far from consistent.
Wow, I remember when I was 10 and Britney took the world by storm. Definitely an essential listen from a historical perspective, it provides a great summary of pop music at the turn of the century.
Okay, I'll give one to the pop princess. 3
Favorite songs: ...Baby One More Time, (You Drive Me) Crazy, Sometimes, I Will Be There, Autumn Goodbye Least favorite songs: From the Bottom of My Broken Heart, The Beat Goes On 3/5
-needless to say this is FAR from Britney’s best work. rather commercial and underwhelming in many ways, but we certainly don’t blame her for that -but oh my god that title track. perfect. immaculate. iconic. regardless of anything else this is such an important album for the development of 2000s teen pop -Favorites are …Baby One More Time, (You Drive Me) Crazy, and The Beat Goes On
I like the main song but the rest isn't super my taste
Did not consider Britney to be much of an album kind of artist but we actually enjoyed this one more than expected. It did help that a lot of the stronger Britney songs are to be found here. Very iconic late 90s pop.
3,5
I feel like as an album listen it's not mindblowing, but it is fun to look back on it as a sort of historical document for the influence it had on pop production in the 2000s, even if I think this style was done better later on. Also, the titular single is an absolute all time banger.
I'd give it a 3 because of the impact at the time, even though I'm not revisiting. I do like it more than a 2.8.
i actually really liked the first three tracks. I really thought I was gonna enjoy this but then soda pop started playing and it snapped me back to reality. its very of its time and cheesy, but I don't mind it. still pretty mediocre, and at best, very iconic
3.5
you know what, it was fun. I had fun with it. 70/100
Some red hot bangers on display here from young Britney, with the title track, crazy and Every Time all great pop songs. Like every other pop record on here, there's a massive disparity between the hits, where literally every songwriter and producer on the planet has had their go, and the album tracks, where Britney sings into a karaoke mike with the Casio keyboard demo in the background.
Good fun, a throwback. But I'd probably not listen again 3
There are a couple of really good songs, a couple that are kind of catchy, and a handful that are pretty generic. Not a bad album. I remember thinking I was too old for it when it came out and I was 20.
Not really into Pop music. she is a pretty good singer though.
Annoyingly catchy
Man, those first two songs are sheer perfection. I hope every day that Britney knows how much joy she brought and that she lives a peaceful, happy rest of her life now.
2.5 stars It’s not revolutionary, but it’s consistent pop. Not gonna lie my wife got me into it. But beyond the hits there are good tracks.
Honestly I haven’t listened to this whole album before - soda pop was a weird song and email my heart just cracked me up. Not an amazing album other than the iconic bangers
Iconic Princess of Pop, truly the sound of a generation (not mine). As far as I am concerned, it starts out as a 5 based solely on the importance in shifting the tone of the music industry away from 1990s grunge towards ultra-produced, scientifically manufactured pop/girl group/boy band music that we’re still in today (see: BTS). I checked the composer/lyricist credits - the MVP of this album is Jörgen Elofsson who wrote Baby One More Time, (You Drive Me) Crazy, and Sometimes which are the first three/best songs. Then I took away 2 stars because after the first three tracks the songs are total schlock (WTF were they thinking with Soda Pop and E-Mail My Heart!?!!). 3⭐️
Yeah
2.75
Influential on the 2000 pop landscape? Yes. Necessary to actually listen to before I die? Probably not.
This album definitely had a few bangers that shook the pop world. Overall it's pretty saccharine and cringe-inducing at times but nothing awful.
3.5 stars
Not really my thing. But I 100% understand it's placement on the list. Monumental in modern pop history.
The hits are fun, nostalgic, upbeat. The rest are awful, insincere filler.
Goes down pretty smooth, and really a massive nostalgia trip. Probably about 50% filler, but kind of a perfect encapsulation of late 90s pop music.
Sappy
I was probably the last person on Earth to have never heard the title song before, but that's all over now. I like the pounded-out piano riff on the chorus a lot! The rest of the album is done well enough, if a bit unmemorable. Probably not something I'll be coming back to, but yeah, I definitely had no excuse for not having heard the hits off it before, so I'm glad I did finally.
Delicious.
It can't be overstated how big of a pop culture icon Britney Spears was in the late 90's/early 00's. She basically was the face of the teen pop explosion that would dominate the radio during this time. Of course, a lot of this success was buoyed by the Swedish songwriting duo of Max Martin and Rami, both of whom were behind a majority of those catchy 90's/00's pop hits that seemed to come from every direction. This album was manufactured to become a smash hit and launch Spears into the stratosphere. Yes, this is purely bubblegum and teen pop as evidenced by the silly, lovey-dovey lyrics ("E-Mail My Heart" sure is...something) and catchy hooks (evidenced by the first three mega-single tracks, right off the bat). I can totally understand this album's inclusion on this list though, as it catapulted Spears into the limelight and began a new era headlined by female teen pop stars. I was very young when this album was big too, so this hit hard in the nostalgia department.
I put off listening to this album for a long time because I didn't think I would like it very much, and while it's definitely not the most groundbreaking pop album of the decade, it's still very much has extreme cultural and historical value for what it is, the rebirth of the teen pop genre. It wasn't quite as peppy and up going as I would have thought it would be just based on the hit single being at the very beginning, but it was still pretty good, there were a couple of songs I didn't really care for but overall I would honestly say it's a damn good project. 3.5/5
Point for nostalgia
Here's one from my childhood. Most of the songs I didn't know were quite sweet sounding. Soda Pop was kinda weird though. The Beat Goes On wasn't a great cover, but I'm not a fan of the original either. The best song was Born to Make You Happy.
The hits still hit so hard, but the b-sides haven’t aged well. Email My Heart? Lol
What a surprise to see this on the list. Brave choice from the authors. But I agree she shaped music in this era. A few of the songs are good, basically the hits, albeit very commercial. But there is also a lot of crap in the album beyond the hits. Three stars.
Solidly produced and performed bubble gum pop. If you expect neither more nor less than that, you won't be disappointed.
my sister used to listen to this all the time. not for me, but it's fine
this album would be better with more slowcore elements
This album came out my Senior year of high school. So I know the pop hits, but didn’t know the rest. Britney is a guilty pleasure to me. The rest of the album after the first 3 tracks reminded me of 90’s R&B (like BoyzIIMen or KC & JoJo) more than pop music.
2.5/5
one more time, crazy, born to make u happy
wait that girl from those how I met your mother episodes made music!?
Bubblegum pop. Britney is a great performer, but it is not my cup of tea.
Not my style, but the musicianship is WAY higher than I recall. Quality work, but I’ll never revisit it.
Iconic for its time.
According to "The Rolling Stone" magazine, this is the greatest debut album of all time.... ... anyway, the album itself had some bangers, and it wasn't bad. Unfortunately, the controversy surrounding Britney Spears, as well as her controlling father, conservatorship, sexual assault allegation, and the fact she currently thinks she's five years old, can't make me rate this higher than it is(And I was very generous with this rating too). Favorite Track: "Baby One More Time".
Repeat listen
That kind of music makes me travel back to time when I was listening to radio with my parents in the car as a kid.
Sugary fun pop hits sprinkled between mildly repetitive filler tracks. Britney’s performance is consistently terrific within a few of these samey trappings. Besides one more time, I enjoyed “I will be there” and “the beat goes on” is a surprisingly good cover.
This was the first album of my own I ever got, for my 10th birthday, so I'll always have a soft spot for this album in my heart. I haven't listened to it in probably 20 years, so I thought coming back to it as an adult would feel like coming in with a fresh ear, but I found myself singing along to every song on the album. ...Baby One More Time defined an entire generation of pop music with its formulaic industry production, the key changes in the middle of most songs, and the occasional guitar solos thrown in. Britney's vocals remain emblematic of the bubblegum pop genre. While my music sensibilities have changed, this album holds up. Favorite track: From the Bottom of My Broken Heart
there's a certain insipidity to how music marketed for teens sounded in the 1990s and 2000s. it always centers around borrowed sounds from adult contemporary balladeers and contemporary r'n'b cliches that never go further than a wink and a nod to the burgeoning hormones tormenting its audience's minds. in this sense, "...Baby One More Time" is no exception. "Soda Pop", "E-Mail My Heart" and "I Will Still Love You" feel less like pop music and more like simulacrums of pop music for an audience that producers, marketers, and executives had no idea how to relate to. and yet. listen, i'm not gonna say this is getting a B rating just because of the title track. there's actually a lot to like here other than it; for example, i really enjoy the other two tracks that Max Martin wrote here, i enjoy the (forgive me) Persona 4-esque groove of "Deep In My Heart", and "The Beat Goes On" is a respectable little downtempo jam. of course, nothing more needs to be said about how well Britney pulls off the singing here, pretty much pioneering pop star vocal fry like 15 years before it became the norm. but c'mon, man. the first track is perfection. it's like two bullets colliding in the air at the Somme, something so miraculous that any attempt to repeat it feels like charlatanism. the chorus feels ritualistic, cult-like in a way, building everything up and possessing you to scream "AND I" and "STILL BELIEVE" at the wrong times because you're already swept up in the fever. it's terrifying. how did they pull it off? also, i'd like to say how appreciative i am of Britney's albums always being so short. in the age of CD fillers, she gave you just the right amount. her longest record is 49 minutes. it's admirable.
These are some HEFTY 90s vibes but I was still not prepared for soda pop
3.2/i can see why the millennials loved her. the rest of the album pales in comparison to the hits.
Some decent pop but got a bit boring after 40 minutes of it. 3 stars
Not good
You can certainly hear the money poured into this, she had lots of support - at least in this aspect. Not so much in the rest of her life which is a terrible story. Mostly semi-disposable late 90s pop, but well enough done.
Idc. Fine for what it is I guess.
Fav: …Baby One More Time Least Fav: Soda Pop One trick pony, the album. Britney’s voice is really good but can only go so far when it’s quite repetitive
This really is an album of two halves. The first half is banger after banger; just the biggest pop songs of the time and still infectious to this day. Sadly, the second half is dragged down by a few too many ballads that feel incredibly dated now with that superficial 90s production. Still, it can’t be denied that this is an important album as a showcase of the dominance Britney had back then.
I liked it more than I thought I would.
A lot better than I expected! I still despite the voice used on 'Baby One More Time'
Baby One More Time and You Drive Me Crazy are absolute timeless bangers, shame nothing else sticks out for the remainder of the album. Very hard carry from these two songs
7/10 I like the stones. Love them even. But this album was more top hits but less cohesion. Still a hood record but probs middle of the road for me among the stoned records. Favorite song: Brown Sugar
rating original tracklist only ...Baby One More Time - 5/5 (You Drive Me) Crazy - 4/5 Sometimes - 3/5 Soda Pop - 2/5 Born to Make You Happy - 3/5 From the Bottom of My Broken Heart - 3/5 I Will Be There - 3/5 I Will Still Love You - 2/5 Deep In My Heart - 3/5 Thinkin' Bout You - 3/5 E-Mail My Heart - 2/5 The Beat Goes On - 2/5 Average score: 2.9/5 (rounding up) only ever heard the song Baby One More Time prior to listening to this album and i can see why. most songs on here were either just okay or just tolerable enough for me to not call shit. maybe if i'd heard this back in the early 2000s i'd be blinded enough by nostalgia to give this higher praises
She's too moany-whiny. The talent here is the song-writing and pop-production and sex-appeal. Britney herself is overrated.
Pretty decent pop album
oh lord. Well the nice thing is that I can exit this album any time after the 12th song. ...Baby One More Time is still a certified bop. and into (You Drive Me) Crazy has got to be one of the strongest pop 1 2s in the whole list of these albums. Sometimes is now the third song in a row about a distant/abusive lover and now its starting to get a little odd. I really commend Brittney for trying to go into a more soulful register with her voice. Born To Make You Happy? What the hell is this album? Some of the beats sound like they came out of a goddamn Casio keyboard. The Beat Goes On is a good cover. Autumn Goodbye is very bad.
some bangers, decent overall
i really thought i was gonna have a hot take on this album here. this album really comes out swinging with the first two tracks and i was like "there's no way this album gets as bad as people on here are rating it." well, i don't think it's as bad as people make it out to be, but it's definitely a really middling late 90s pop album. it's nostalgic as hell and pretty fun to listen to for that reason, but i don't think i would say it's great. britney is one of the tragic figures of the pop music industry and her importance should not be understated - on top of that, she has a great singing voice and max martin's stuff on here is pretty good. but really most of this feels like filler.
It’s ok
Big hitters aside, it's all a bit one dimensional. But you can't deny, the hits are HITS. Bittersweet to listen to with hindsight.
Some solid pop songs on here. But ultimately don't think I'd come back to them other than the hits
E-Mail My Heart is a hilariously dated song. This is music by committee that for the most part is really good. The key change in Sometimes is great. The Beat Goes On is an interesting closer that’s very stylistically different from the rest of the songs here. Highlights were …Baby One More Time, Sometimes, and Soda Pop.
FREE BRITNEY!!! There are 3-4 club bangers on here, the rest is typical pop album business. All enjoyable and easy on the ears. You lead off with THAT song, you can pretty much do whatever else you want.
Surprised to see this album on the list. It put out quite a few singles so I guess it belongs here. It's a good pop record BUT it was way too long. After the 10th song, I had enough.
Favorite track: you drive me crazy other picks: baby one more time, i will be there
Ok pop album
Her music's icky but I don't think the entire genre should be scrutinized. There are people twenty years before her that have made very, very good bubblegum pop. >cough cough< ABBA >cough cough<
Easy listen, was able to get the vibe of the songs on low volume without relistening too much. Sounds extremely 2000s. Low 3.
6/10 - It was pretty fun to listen to. The songs were all pretty similar but it was a good vibe. Baby one more time was the best song and others were kind of just a worse version of it, but all enjoyable.
absolute pop cheese. hasn’t aged well, but is kinda fun if you take it as unserious as possible.
while i do enjoy britney a lot, this album really isnt that remarkable, except for the few songs on it that went completely viral and are still hits up to this day. all in all its pretty forgettable (to me personally) and doesnt hold up at all (+ the typical lyrics that dont really help its cause) still a classic 2000s pop album though
lyrics are a bit too cheesy and over the top for me but still not a bad album by any means
The Beat Goes On proves this team was capable of more than trying to entertain men with the sex appeal of a teenager, which makes the rest of the album more disappointing.
I never gave this album a shot when I was growing up because it came out when I was 18 years old and figured I’m never gonna listen to this, but it actually is not that bad
Wish I coulda been in society when this one dropped. Such a fun album. Not something I’d throw on much because it was a bit mortifying pulling into a parking garage with this on, but there are a bunch of hits and I enjoyed it a lot. Such a great aesthetic that it curates.
My first impression was that Britney looks EXACTLY like the girl from Zoey 101. Apparently they’re sisters. Who knew? Spears is generation defining quintessential 2000’s which for better or worse was about 10-12 years before my time as a teen. Starts with 2 absolute bangers before generally mellowing out and I feel like you get the idea after the first couple of songs. The songs you know are definitely going to feel timeless, the rest you can take it or leave it.
